I know we're all amused af that Esther took one look at Edwin and knew to create a boy for him, but if I'm correct at no point does she specify which ghost should Monty go for and later even says something like "make sure to get in THEIR good graces", maybe as in "make sure both of them are into you"? Listen,
I'd fully believe that she had seen the way Edwin walks and Charles's one earring and went "just choose one and seduce him" and Monty just so happened to meet Edwin first lmao

I do hope we get a little baseball and suitcase interaction in the final ep (highly doubtful let me dream) they have been so tricky to fully flesh out in my head due to “was this intentional or a writers flaw?” Factors.
like example: suitcase saying “if she(testtube) is really your friend she’ll understand it’s just part of the game”. Then later she chews him out for “choosing” to vote out tt in truth or flare, even though the reason he even voted for testtube was because of knife and suitcase.
Was the hypocrisy intentional on her part or not? She was the one who suggested the “not personal” idea in the first place why is she getting mad when baseball is just repeating what she says. Very interesting flaw if true.
I have a lot more to say just need to formulate my thoughts arguments better

something about edwin having a whole legion of Guys who are In Love With Him is sooooo funny like this guy didn't have the chance to explore his sexuality at all when he was alive and now that he's Dead there's people fawning over him left and right . one of them is literal royalty!!! royalty for cats but royalty nonetheless >_< ? one of them is the familiar of a witch who wants him even deader than he already is ?? imagine how overwhelmed he must have been oh my god 😭 anyway siiiigh i wish i was edwin payne . (bar the being tortured in hell for 70 years bit. im just as gay as him and i want cat royalty and joshua colley to be in love with me ♡)

Aight happy pride it's pride time!
I like to headcanon Roxy as ace/bi and nonbinary, sometimes genderqueer. I also love putting her in a queer platonic relationship with DJ cause it's cute and I love them
Chica to me is a pansexual lesbian and Monty is either bisexual or also pansexual. I sometimes make Monty trans or nonbinary too, but he strikes me as the kind of guy that's never really thought about it and also doesn't really care. Doesn't always understand but he's got the spirit!
DJ is demi and of course, in his queer platonic relationship with Roxy most of the time cause it's very sweet. Freddy is gay/ace and Bonnie is a bisexual gay. Sunny is a he/him lesbian while Moon is bi.
I'd start talking about the Minis but there's 394 of those guys lmao so uhh Vanessa is questioning and working things out, but is also the animatronics' best resource on this stuff. It's probably what got her to start questioning shit since she's had to look up so many things for them lmao
Most of these aren't solid for every single story idea or AU or whatever, but they're what I think right now so that's what I'm going with for funsies ^-^

Lomper and Dennis are the ultimate old gay couple representation because they're both so stupid and insecure but so obsessed with each other and they drag everyone into their drama and they nearly ended a decades long marriage over a pigeon

You know what really gets me in Dead Boy Detectives queer rep???
It's that it's both endearing and honest and it balances those things beautifully!
You know how there are some shows in which being queer is a given and there's no LGBTphobia at all? I love it. It feels like the safe space I have within my friends and found family.
And then there are stories where the real world happens and it's important, because we're still very much fighting, and media should also show that.
But dead boy detectives!! Has!! Both!!
Not one person (that matters) in Port Townsend has a problem with queerness, no one bats an eye at it, presumably everyone is queer actually. And yet, one of the main characters was murdered in a hate crime for being gay.
They have Monty and the Cat King and Jenny all being unapologetically queer, and they also have a heartfelt conversation about punishing yourself for being who you are while in HELL.
Honestly, I don't remember any other show doing it like this.

I just finished watching Dead Boy Detectives, and I really, really love how this show handled its queer characters.
It’s so interesting to me, because Edwin died in 1916, and while he wasn’t killed for being gay, his sexuality isn’t unconnected with how/why he died. But his whole arc in the season is about accepting himself and his feelings for both boys more generally and Charles in specific. And by the end of the season, he is able to discuss his crushes with Niko and confess to Charles, and even extend this acceptance to Simon—the boy who bullied and killed him. And in the confession with Charles, I think it is so beautiful that nothing changed— that Charles was so accepting not only of Edwin being gay but also being in love with him.
And I love the scene with Simon, and the moment that the show gives to Edwin, where he is able to accept that being gay isn’t a curse of inherently wrong. And after extending that acceptance to Simon, Simon is able to move on from his eternal punishment in Hell.
So this show does a really beautiful job handling internalized homophobia and repressed feelings, but, at the same time, it also has a really casual approach to queerness. It was never suggested that Jenny’s secret admirer could be a man, and Niko just already seemed to know Jenny was gay. And it was never considered odd or surprising by the characters that Monty and the Cat King could be attracted to Edwin. For a show that really treats Edwin’s journey so beautifully, there is just also a level of accepted queerness without homophobia which I found really interesting and enjoyable to watch.

They literally put Edwin through every possible gay-romance trope but made it realistic and that's so special to me like
we got the "probably former friend can't handle feelings and turns into bully instead" but it doesn't end with them, making up and being happy, they break apart, things escalate and they both suffer from that situation for a major part of their existence. With a bit of luck and a LOT of growing they manage to talk it out and the victim finds it in himself to forgive his bully but it's never going to be truly fine. But even though they both suffer tremendously, they are faced to deal with themselves in the process and find a kind of peace they wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Because maybe it's better to hurt for a long time only to realise that it really doesn't have to be torture to be the way you are and finally freeing yourself entirely than quietly live without the conflict but also without the realisation and resenting yourself for its entirety.
then there's the situation with the cat king. Older, emotionally unstable guy obsesses over younger inexperienced guy who actually understands him and causes some sort of gay awakening. But instead of some "I can fix him" bullshit with them, ending up happily ever after because "they're the only ones who understand each other"TM we get to see Edwin set boundaries and standing up for himself which benefits the both of them. For Edwin this ends in going "Hey thank you for opening that door to discovering that part of myself but I'm actually gonna have to leave you at the doorstep now" and for the cat king it ends up with him actually feeling seen because for once somebody didn't fall for his probably usual game of "I'm bored so I'm going to make a game of getting that guy to do what i want by seducing him". The fact that they don't end up together is the reason they were good for each other.
Also the situation with Monty which is basically the experience of a lot of queer peoples first relationship. They meet and they're both somehow new to all of this. Being queer, relationships, all that stuff. And they get along and share some interests, they like soending time with each other and technically it's like in a romance book because they meet and one of them is immediately interested and then they talk and they sit on a swingset and they kiss. And there's the excitement about "apparently I'm making my first experience with romance right now" and the worry of "I'm queer...I have it harder with relationships...what if this is the best option i have? what if it's the only one?" so they go through all the romance book tropes but the spark simply isn't there and it ends in one of them getting way more invested tha the other and they eventually end up breaking up in blood. But in a way both of them got an idea about what they actually want in life out of it so even if that sone didn't end well, it did give them something.
And last but not least the "in love with best friend who likes someone else/someone of the opposite gender specifically" but instead of having that best friend be secretly in love with the character all along or suddenly turn homophobic and the friendship being ruined they talk about it and they move on and the friendship isn't damaged and in a way it might even be better because sometimes our feelings are unrequited and sometimes that's okay.
I just really really love how the show took all of those options for cheesy and in a way sometimes even forced romance tropes and went "hey, life is not a romance novel but actually that kind of makes it better because look where it got you now"

out
Tommy waffles over where they're going for drinks, halfway out the bay doors with space between them and the rest of the station, and Howie darts a strange look at him over his shoulder as Tommy wanders towards where their cars are parked.
They decide on Jenny's, even though Monty's is closer to both of their apartments, and it's not until Chim's shoved a third shot in Tommy's face that he darts a calculating glance at Howie.
"I fucked the bartender at Monty's and bounced while he was still in the shower," Tommy announces, to Howie, to the bar, to the world at large. No one except Howie is paying any attention, though.
Howie narrows his eyes. Picks at a coaster and knows he's going to piss off their server by turning into a pulpy mess. "That's how you wanna do it?"
It's -- there have been hints. More recently he'd stopped playing up the ladykiller act, and when he'd blinked at the guy flirting hard at a call three weeks ago, there'd been a distinct redness to his cheeks that he hadn't actually tried to downplay.
"Why me and not Hen?"
Tommy taps two thumbs against the sticky table. Eyes the neck of his bottle of fancy beer. "Why, because she's gay too and we all flock together?"
Howie purses his lips. Tilts his chin. Ends up quirking a brow just to watch Tommy get it. Tommy chuffs a laugh.
"Well shit."
"Kinda disappointed you're not taking this opportunity to confess to the devastating crush you have on me that you always thought was unattainable."
Tommy blinks, and Howie pictures him thinking of where the line between friendly and flirty really is. Howie wouldn't say no is the thing, except he's sort of seeing someone semi-seriously now? Tommy blinks again. "If it was gonna be anyone at the 118 it would have been Eli."
Not Sal? Howie wants to ask, but he bites down on it because that's his own fucked up thing.
"So the new cap must really do it for you," Howie surmises, and Tommy tilts his head back and forth like he's considering it, a little. So: Kind. Fiercely loyal. Little fucked up. Providers.
The rom-com loving quirk takes on a little more meaning in Howie's head.
Howie kicks his shin, and Tommy's smile lines graft across his cheeks. Good god he's gonna make some man so fucking happy, one day. "So, is this a secret I gotta keep? 'Cause I gotta tell you, my track record is not great but I will find a way to do it if you need me to."
"Kinda the reason I told you," Tommy says, and that's kinda that.
---
Chim watches Buck shake Tommy's hand. And then continue to shake his hand. And then... keep shaking his fucking hand.
Eddie gives him a bemused look, and Chim figures he'll let this play out without any interference.

dead boy detectives has, in my opinion, the best queer rep/storyline i've seen in any media today. it's the lack of labels.
at the very beginning of my own queer-discovery journey, my main sources of queer media were either love, simon(the movie, i never ended up reading the book) or the webcomic heartstopper. In stories like the former, the character already knew their identity before the story even started. And Nick's journey in heartstopper was very lead by the constant "am I gay or bi?". So, naturally, I OBSESSED over labels. I read wikis with hundreds of descriptions. I had to figure out which identity i belonged with so i could feel part of a community, right? Even when I had finally decided I was tired of this, and decided to go unlabeled, i found someone had made a flag for unlabeled and it was yet ANOTHER box. (btw, I'm not saying any of this is bad. for some people it's incredible to put a single word to your complex feelings, and really gain a sense of belonging. Media like that is fine and important.)
Dead Boy Detectives only uses the label "gay", and it is said twice within the same scene, and neither time is it used to describe a character going through any queer journey.
Edwin's story isn't a struggle of "am I gay or straight or bi?" it's "i've never felt this way before, why do i feel this way? how does this change things? what does this mean?" He is never once pushed by other characters to give a label. When Niko inquires, its about his feelings ("do you want to kiss monty/the cat king?", even saying "boys can like like boys" isnt targeted towards ONE specific identity). Charles accepts Edwin so openly, without once asking even out of curiosity a specific label. The labels are great, but i feel like it can be kinda easy to get caught up in them. Edwin's queer journey is led by feelings alone, something I've never seen done before in media, and i think this is so so important both for those just starting their own discoveries but also to normalize the whole thing.
Holy shit i wrote alot. thanks to anyone who actually reads this far😭

jegulus with trans James headcanons??
Oooo I love trans James too, v underrated headcanon
- if regulus was cis I feel like he’d still be extremely gay and he goes to queer events in his town with Sirius and that’s how he meets James
- he hasn’t had top yet but like the slut he is (affectionate) he walks around with his binder on and some sweats and regulus is just drooling
- testosterone did amazing things for his jawline and back definition too Oof regulus wants to climb him like a tree
- also trans James has the potential for them to be either the same height or taller regulus and hehehehehe I love it, James likes looking up at this hot, mysterious, grumpy nerd and flirting with him
- James tries to act like his sex drive hasn’t gone up because he doesn’t wanna scare regulus off but reg is all for it
- when they first start dating James is always trying to impress him with his clothing and like wants to be super masculine but reg just thinks he’s hot in whatever he wears (the suits are a plus)
- they go to so many drag shows together and bars and clubs and they’re just in their own little queer lovely bubble
- deciding who tops and who bottoms is a bit of a challenge bevause neither of them knows what they’d prefer
- they try both
- James bottoms first and reg is kinda nervous because he’s had one boyfriend and was the bottom but James assures him he’ll do so good and he’s wanted this since they met
- reg is,,,very good with his tongue (james’ voice does get a little higher and it makes reg rock hard)
- they’re both very open about their likes and dislikes, in and out of the bedroom, they’re great communicators
- James is also fiercely protective of regulus because a lot of gay/bisexual men will approach him and he’s like ‘nope he’s mine’ and will just kiss him
- regulus is very helpful when it comes to dysphoria, I feel like James hates his chest but can’t afford surgery rn and regulus is always telling him that he’s handsome no matter what, that he’s HIS man no matter what
- effie and Monty are always nervous when they meet james’ partners because they don’t want their son to be taken advantage of or used so they’re kinda tough on reg at first but they warm up to him almost immediately and realise he’s the most supportive partner James has had
- james’ parents have trans and pride flags outside their house too, they’re the best ally’s
- when James does get surgery regulus is there every step of the way, he stays in the hospital the entire time and when he wakes up he covers his face in kisses and brings him flowers and helps him home, he cleans him and makes sure he’s got enough pain killers, he’s very attentive

Actually, as a queer person, Edwin Payne is so important to me. Him experiencing such harsh bullying he quite literally dies for it, because he is gay. His time in Hell, partially spent thinking he deserves to be there because of who he is, and enduring, until he realizes "there is nothing I could done to have warrant this much suffering for simply existing" and then getting himself out of there.
How that's such a powerful metaphor. How you have to accept the fact that you don't deserve the pain for simply existing snd how the first time around, you have to get out of there on your own. You have ti get out and find a way to form connections again. To learn to trust people again and to trust them to accept you when you are ready to come out.
How his relationships with other queer people aren't perfect, because everyone has their own issues and a lot of the times, those clash when you first start dating. Cat King trying to keep him to himself, Monty wanting a fairytale and then ending up being someone Edwin didn't feel like he knows at all. And yet. They were all doing their best. I think it's even more powerful because Edwin realizes they were all doing their best.
When he talks to Simon is Hell and Simon asks: "Do you think it has to be torture? Being the way that we are?" And Edwin's resolute: "Listen to me. It does not. If you punish yourself, eveywhere becomes Hell"
At this point, Edwin's endeavors with men have ended quite disastrously. Monty betrayed him, and his last meeting with the Cat King in the forest ended om very rough terms too. He didn't even confess to Charles at this point, so there is a very real fear of him ruining their friendship with his feelings.
And yet, Edwin doesn't say it's torture. Doesn't say it's messy and painful and confusing or that he regrets it. Because yes, opening yourself up to affection, both that of others and giving your own away, is always going to be difficult and messy. But Edwin owns it. He is basically saying "I don't regret it. I have loved/liked/had affections for people and they gave me the same in return and it wasn't perfect, but I wouldn't take it back".
Also him being a late bloomer as compared to Charles and Crystal, the way queer people so often don't experience romance until later in life, because we take time to not only figure ourselves out, but also to be in a position where it is safe for us to love someone in that way.
Just!!! Edwin Payne is such an amazing representation and he means sm to me
