saw a poll about whether you prefer corruption or redemption arcs and i realized that for me it's not really either, it's a distillation arc: when a character becomes the most intense version of what they could be, everything inessential falling away or being discarded so that only the core remains.

Since it's coming up on the first anniversary of FH: Junior Year, I've been thinking about that hypothetical (probably unlikely) fourth season, and I really think it should be set during the Bad Kids' High School Reunion. Especially after MisMag 2, I feel like the storytelling opportunities just compound if the Intrepid Heroes had the space to let the Bad Kids' circumstances change more drastically than they would if they did a Senior Year or even a Homecoming.

Like, you could totally still have the first episode set in their Senior Year, and have it be on their Graduation Day. The Bad Kids could have all of their sweet, sentimental moments that you'd want to see (while also setting up the season's Big Bad, ala The Seven) and have the six of them (Fig crashes the Grad Party) take a group picture photo.

All of them are filled with so much hope and aspirations before hard cutting to ten years later and meet all of them in their late twenties (thirty for Fabian), and they are doing... not horribly, but we've seen what Spyre's like for teen adventurers. What's it like for a bunch of adults who used to or still do adventure??

How much have the Bad Kids grown? How much have they backslid into their old ways? How much do they keep in touch, and who are the ones who are still closest after high school?

How does Fig feel about getting older and maybe losing some of that teenage rebellion? How does Kristen deal with actually having a congregation that's counting on her? How often does Gorgug think about killing his new boss, Arthur Aguefort? How exhausted is Adaine in the midst of the Wizard equivalent of a Doctorate (and her mother still evading her and Aelwen)? How badly does Riz need this reunion because adventuring without his best friends just isn't the same? AND most importantly...

How many divorces is Fabian Aramais Seacaster on, and why is it two?

Undead Unluck has no freaking business having such a cute couple dynamic with such an insane plot and wild character design.

Like, watching Fuuko's and Andy's relationship grow from Andy just teasing/wanting to use her, to him actively trying to make her fall for him to get the best death ever, to them just naturally starting to grow together as characters and just, respecting each other and actually learning to love the other, like, hurghhh!! Why is it so good??? Andy is literally insane yet he has a more mature and stable relationship with Fuuko than most other protagonists?!?

Also, the way the mangaka draws them constantly being physically so close is gonna kill me. Like, yeah, during the fights Fuuko's gotta play Koala to get her unluck on him, but there's rly no reason for the two of em to be all over each other out from battle (i mean, before they obviously start to like each other). I just keep thinking back on that one plane scene, where they literally have a whole plane for themselves, yet Fuuko naps in Andy's lap and cluthes his tie.

Saw a post about how Nate embodies Sophie’s noir romantic fantasies and I remember how Sophie always has a comment after the more serious romantic entanglement Eliot episodes (“The Two-Horse Job” and “The Studio Job” (she asks Eliot and his “no notes” line)) and I’m wondering if to her Eliot embodies the cowboy drifter romance stories. And now I’m wondering if that’s how she puts everyone into categories. Just whatever dramatic literary tropes they fill.

Hey, so today KING IN LIMBO volume 1 came out, and I HIGHLY recommend it. Full disclosure: I’m the letterer on this manga. Kodansha paid me for that, but not to plug this book, or to gush about it with the editor. This is probably my favorite title I’ve ever worked on. The SF premise is very cool and the sense of place is spot on, but what makes KING IN LIMBO stand out is the multifaceted, layered main character. If you’re into grounded, character-heavy SF and want more comics for mature readers please check it out.

I just got the script and assets for the third and final volume and am so excited to see how it wraps up.

Maybe Edwin isn't as reactive when they're in danger of being sent to the afterlife as Charles, because he believes without a doubt that Charles isn't going to be sent to hell. He only has himself to worry about, whereas Charles doesn't know where he'll be sent (if he truly thinks he's a bad person it's not that much of a stretch to think he believes there's a chance he'll get sent to hell) as well as fearing for Edwin going back to hell too.

I don't doubt both of them would do anything to stay together but I think it plays on Edwin's mind that he almost (unintentionally) stole Charles' tranquil afterlife from him, maybe sometimes he thinks if Death were to catch them and he was sent back to hell, at least Charles would get his true peaceful afterlife.

We know though, that Charles would rather go to hell (as he literally does) than be separated from Edwin.

Man I'm finally watching Leverage and I'm in love with the way Elliot is so Guard Dog coded. There are several points where he explicitly says that his number one job is keeping Nate safe. By the end of season 3, he's willing to do anything for Nate (and the others, but to me it seems like his primary protectiveness revolves around Nate). He's willing to fight, to die, to do things no one else will, because Nate asked him to. He only sees himself as a weapon. His teeth are bared; he's just relying on Nate to point him at his next target and let him off his leesh.
