For all the praise Night At The Museum recieves on this site (some of it warranted), I feel like i gotta point out how weird it is that the movie made a Native woman (one who was raped & sold into slavery by a White man) the love interest of Theodore "9 out of every 10 Indians are only good being dead" & "the most vicious cowboy has more principle than the average Indian" Roosevelt (the guy who also invented National Parks specifically to disenfranchise & displace Native Americans under the guise of "nature preservation")

So with Joann going under and as a Fashion/Costume Designer and a cosplayer I need a place to get fabric and notions, and I know many others feel lost as well
So I made a short simple list of online fabric stores as well as notions .
Please share with anyone you would like. If you have recommendations of things to add please let me know.
There's only a few right now of ones I know and have used
I may add a few niche ones like Silk Baron but I am mainly adding ones with many options and maybe add a niche section later
More places with trims would be nice, or even patterns, historical, cosplay, or everyday.

If you're in the US and you're able to, call Dem senators *today*, like now, to tell them to oppose the cloture vote on HR28, the trans "sports ban" in the anti trans policy agenda. Or get your most righteously indignant liberal relative to make some calls, whatever.

If you are a British/UK citizen, there is currently a petition running (with only 125 signatures) that ends in June 2025. The petition calls for the government to make it so that you do not need a diagnosis of gender dysphoria to change your gender.
If you are a British/UK citizen, and would like to sign:

If you're not a British/ UK citizen it'd be much appreciated if you could share this post !! :)

entranced by that genre of 2000s tv character where the writers want to write a main autistic character but they obviously can't acknowledge in any way that the character is autistic and also they probably don't realize the character is autistic either, so the actual character's autistic traits are done through a game of stereotype telephone, and also it's a 2000s TV show so the narrative around character relationships and identities must be centered around the goal of Being Normal™®© so the crypto-autistic characters friends are constantly stigmatizing anything they do that isn't Normal™®© as unhealthy and inhuman but you know, in a fun way, so the very thing that is supposed to make the main character interesting is also what makes them innately flawed and unhappy and we are supposed to view them acting less autistic-coded as them learning how to be happy aka Normal™®© but it's also serialized so they can't change too much and just exist in this realm of tension where they are autistic but can't be autistic and it's their core character trait and their main personal failing and their friends lovingly put up with it and you are a tiny autistic child watching this going ummmm this b plot is based on an incorrect assumption about lizard mating seasons and i need them to address this immediately
#i read this nodding along like “yeah this is exactly how they treated bones” n then i got to ur tags#bones deserved better :(#altho i do think she wasnt pressured too much to be normal?#like quite a few ppl in the lab were autistic-coded#admittedly i never saw the last few seasons tho so that may have changed

I saw this mentioned as a bit of an aside on another post but since it was a little bit besides the point of that post decided to make my own post about it instead of derailing that one.
It IS very interesting how in Lord of The Rings orcs are the soldiers of a (compared to the rest of the world) highly industrialized and technologically advanced military force, yet pretty much every high fantasy media that has borrowed the concept of orcs since then has instead given them the "tribal savages" treatment, and i don't know how I failed to realize that difference until I saw someone else bring it up.
Like of course this is not saying that the depiction of orcs in LoTR is not problematic for a lot of different reasons (there have been years of discussions unpacking that) but it IS an interesting change and I think a pretty ideologically loaded one.
Thinking about it makes me remember this article I read a few years ago about how, regardless of genre trappings, a lot of high fantasy (especially in ttrpgs and videogames) actually has a lot more in common narratively and thematically with wild west ""cowboys vs indians"" films and shows than it has with its aesthetic inspirations. Like once you look at it with that lense in mind it becomes really conspicuous how much these works like giving the "tribal savages" treatment to any sapient creature that exists for the heroes to fight.

So Tazmuir told me that the reason she hasn't said anything about Alrecto for a while is that it got so big she needs to split it again, but the whole thing is Alecto POV so she doesn't know how to name them. Yeah, it's been done and ready to release for like six months but she just can't figure out how to keep the damn naming scheme going. It's a good thing she reached out because I solved the problem. Coming this summer, prepare yourselves for
Alecto the Eight-and-a-halfth
