Eyes Of The Past - OLD CH. 1
Part 2
[TW: swearing, mentions of death, sickness, and general spookiness.]
...
Danny was used to seeing the dead. He was one of them, actually. People have been dying for thousands of years and will continue to die for thousands more. Hearing the whispers of people who should have passed on was nothing unusual, even if it gave him an uncomfortable sense of wrongness.
Maybe that’s why he didn’t like Gotham City.
Don’t get him wrong! Gotham was a lovely place to live; if you were psychotic. But the gothic architecture that never seemed to crumble, the visible smog that settled over the skies like a thick blanket, and the acidic aftertaste the water had were just enough to make Danny uncomfortable as he trekked through the streets. It had just rained, and the random sounds of water dripping off buildings made him flinch. Puddles kept reflecting the surroundings unusually. The smell of wet asphalt was heavy in the air, nothing like the freshness of Amity’s rain.
He felt itchy and weird in his skin, like something was trying to burn it off. It was just past three am, and Danny had just gotten off his split shift at some high-end nightclub. The Iceberg Lounge, or something like that. He’d gotten a job as a busboy since he was too young to work as a bouncer or bartender. Honestly, he was lucky they let him have a job at all. He took every shift he could, sometimes going over the legal limit of what a minor was allowed to work.
His boss allowed it, however. On a few conditions.
Listen in on the customers and report anything interesting to management. Danny was tiny, way too small for his age of sixteen. But he was great at making himself unnoticeable, which allowed him to keep his ears open for exciting deals and whatnot that were going around. He didn’t feel good about the work, but it kept food on the table. So far, the worst he’s reported was a plan to move against Red Hood and his gang. It wasn't ideal, but Danny could put up with the prying eyes and greedy hands so long as he got paid on time.
Oh, but the dead? They were so much worse.
The dead always noticed him. And they always talked to him. He could barely think straight with all the ghouls, specters, shades, and other souls that always clamored for his attention. Gotham’s dark atmosphere bred hundreds of angry souls who refused to move on until their business was finished. But without a steady source of ectoplasm or a natural portal, most of them stayed as shadows of their former selves. They stuck to the city's underbelly, brewing in anger and making the town sicker than it already was. Some of them, the stronger ones with a real bone to pick, chose to haunt the living, clinging to a person’s back and leeching off their life energy. Those were the ones Danny had to deal with the most in Gotham.
It was horrible. Everything was just so sad and angry! The city had a lot of fucked-up people living here, and the worst of them had so many shades sticking to them. They all wanted something. It made Danny feel like he was always having an allergy attack. The city just messed his senses up in the worst way possible. Danny would gladly be living anywhere else if it wasn’t for his need to hide and survive.
Kill them. Danny shivered as he turned a corner, and a shadow reached out to stick to his shoulder, whispering filthy words into his ear. Kill them for me. He brushed the spirit off, ignoring their hiss. His back ached, and his head throbbed. Danny just wanted to climb into the shit hole he called home and fall asleep on the thin futon he’d shoved into a corner.
So he did.
Danny climbed the rickety fire escape up to his apartment as quietly as possible (the main staircase was out of order) and shimmied himself through the broken window that never opened all the way. His backpack was stored under his futon, in the floorboards, and he collapsed without changing his clothes.
Maybe tomorrow’s shift will be better. He thought, closing his eyes.
…
It was not better. His next shift was as shitty as all the others.
“Take this to the east balcony on the second floor.” Danny’s supervisor for the night, Tamia, shoved a heavy tray laden with beer bottles and fancy cocktails into his hands, pointing vaguely to the staircase he’d have to use. It was only thanks to Danny’s ghost strength that he didn’t collapse under the weight.
“Isn’t that where the boss is?” He asked, squinting past the bright lights, barely making out the short outline of Oswald Cobblepot as he talked up some rough-looking characters.
Tamia nodded, distracted. She was already back to whipping up complicated drinks and barking orders at the other servers. “Yeah, so don’t fuck this up. In and out, ya hear?”
“Got it, Tam.”
She waved him off, and he began the rough journey to the second floor, skirting around the edges of the packed tables, avoiding the odd penguin, and taking careful steps up the staircase, floating just barely above the floor to make sure he didn’t slip. Guests and other workers ignored him, but their shades reached out, caressing him in a way that made him want to squirm. He couldn’t shake them off, not while he was carrying the tray.
She killed me, one whispered as a lady dressed in diamonds passed.
I was drugged, said another when a burly older man walked by.
Danny pressed close to the walls as a group meandered on by. My teddy bear! A little girl’s voice cried out, and he couldn’t tell which of the group it was coming from. He took my teddy bear! I want it back!
I can’t help you, he thought viciously, trying to charge the air around him with hostility. It was difficult. The humans would pick up on it if he harshed the vibes too much. Too little, and the shades would ignore it. A nearby penguin squawked in alarm, but the spirits backed off, so he counted it as a win.
Finally, he reached the east balcony. The thick curtains were closed, but his sharp hearing still caught a few words through the club's noise. Something about the gang war Red Hood had prevented (the one Danny had reported on.)
But it wasn’t his job to worry about that. He wasn’t a hero anymore. Instead, Danny politely knocked on a pillar holding the curtains up, waiting to be let in.
The conversation quieted. “Who is it?” asked his boss.
“Drinks, sir,” Danny replied simply. The curtain was let open, and by the Ancients, Danny wished he’d never taken this job.
The balcony was brimming with the dead. It reeked with the heavy stench of death.
He suppressed a cough, clamping his mouth shut as he passed out drinks. His hostile aura was drowned out by the sheer amount of spirits clamoring at each other, practically at each other’s ghostly throats. Some of them had real definition to their features, telling Danny that this was not a group to be messed with. One of the spirits was on the verge of gaining its own consciousness, dripping a familiar green Danny had come to associate with his rouges. The spirit's burning eyes turned to him, and Danny was overwhelmed with the scent of rot rolling off it. It made him feel sick to his stomach.
He started to pass out drinks, suppressing the urge to shiver as hands gripped at his face, his clothes, his arms, his everything. The shades had noticed him. They clamored around him, filling his head with white noise. It was horrible.
Mr. Cobblepot eyed the boy, noticing how his newest employee had tensed up and gone noticeably paler in the presence of his guests.
The kid had practically folded in on himself as another aide swept aside the curtains. His hands trembled just barely, and he refused to meet anyone’s eyes straight on, instead looking past their ear or at their foreheads. He also noticed how Red Hood, sitting directly to his right, had gone stiff when the kid entered the room. The crime lord wasn’t showing his face, but he could still see how Hood tracked Danny’s movements like a hawk, tensed like he was about to leap out of his chair and assault the kid. Danny, for his part, had clamped his mouth shut and did his duties diligently and quickly, seemingly not noticing Red Hood’s attention on him.
Everyone began murmuring again, continuing their conversations now that they had booze to loosen their tongues. Mr. Cobblepot took a tentative sip of his fancy cocktail, non-alcoholic, of course. He couldn’t have his thoughts inhibited while in the middle of a business deal.
The kid was in and out like a ghost, barely making a sound as he slipped past the curtains once more, tray clutched to his chest.
“Who was that?” Red Hood finally tore his attention away from the kid’s retreating back and turned to the host of the evening.
Mr. Cobblepot waved him off. “A new hire. Don’t worry. All the paperwork is in order; he’s not here illegally.” Lies slipped off his tongue like honey, and luckily, Red Hood was too distracted to notice. “Now, let’s get back to business, shall we?”
Danny practically ran down the stairs and back into the kitchens. He barely had time to shove his empty tray into Tamia’s hands before he slammed the back doors open and heaved the contents of his stomach out next to a dumpster.
Ancients, that was horrific. Danny knelt there for a few moments, dry heaving some more until his stomach was well and truly empty. Acid burned the back of his throat.
“Holy shit Danny! What happened?” Thin hands clamped down on his shoulders, making him flinch. The touch softened, and they started rubbing circles on his back instead. It was Tamia, no doubt having run after him when she saw his pale face.
Danny shuddered and shook his head. “Sorry.” He gasped. “I think-I think I’m allergic to something they were wearing.”
“Fuck.” Tamia cursed softly. “If I get you a drink, will that settle your stomach?”
“Probably, yeah.”
His (totally awesome, reminded him of Jazz) supervisor stood up decisively. “Then I’m getting you some water.” She told him. Two wispy shades curled around her neck, chittering at him with anxiety. “Sit out here and take some deep breaths. We’re short-staffed tonight, so I’ll send Mia to the balconies instead. We can’t afford to send you home.”
“And I can’t afford to miss a shift.” He joked. His heart wasn't in it.
Tamia turned and opened the back door. “Well, if you’re already cracking jokes, you’ll be back to waiting tables in no time~” She cackled over her shoulder.
Danny smiled at her retreating back. Tamia was a nice person, and he didn’t meet many of those these days. She was tall, with dark skin and a wit to match Nightwing’s. He’s sure she was only looking out for him because he reminded her of her two younger siblings, dead from a house fire a few years ago. (If he had to hazard a guess, the two shades that clung to her with such desperation were what was left of those very siblings.) It was fine. He’d take any pity he could get.
Coughing slightly, Danny leaned back on his heels and looked up, trying to see past Gotham’s cloud cover. Instead of stars, he saw two white eyes narrow at him from the top of the building. A dark mass writhed above the eyes, making the figure they belonged to blend in with the background. Danny yelped in surprise and fell on his butt. When he looked up again, the eyes were gone.
Well, shit.
Danny scrambled to his feet and tore open the back door, almost running into Tamia, who had a bottle of water in her hands. “Tam!” He blurted. “Get the boss! The Bat is here!”
...

Hi Lena I was curious: Before joining the shepherds, were there any misconceptions the norm members had about the different diminished races that were disproven by meeting their current group? Or things that surprised them/they didn’t know about the diminished races? (Or stuff that some of the diminished members didn’t know about other races as well?)
Hi anon, I think most of the misconceptions that the Norm officers held about Diminished races were pretty much covered in the post about Shery's thoughts about the Diminished races, since she was acting from some of the same common stereotypes that a lot of them were. I think the most prevalent is that a lot of Norms were under the impression that Ket are bloodthirsty, aggressive, barbarian warriors who will pick a fight with you for looking at them the wrong way and, like, don't teach their kids to read in favor of learning how to decapitate people or beat them to death with a bludgeon. Like many people believe they're basically one step above grunting, warlike Neanderthals. It was definitely a surprise to discover that Blade was more cool-tempered and had more sophisticated manners than Trouble, and enjoys a cup of tea and reads poetry more than Red! It's actually often the opposite case: Ket are less inclined to randomly pick a fight with you because they're either not interested in deviating from their current mission, or aren't emotional enough to get in a fight with a stranger, and their culture is so honor-based and rigid that such unseemly behavior would typically be beneath them!
The other big misconception was that Mages are basically volatile, walking time bombs (and also esoteric nerds with their noses constantly buried in books, which, like, is a bit less inaccurate). A lot of Norms (and other races) are taught to believe that Mages will lose control of their magic at the drop of a hat: they might sneeze and a candle will burst into flame, or the sky will cloud over and a hurricane will land when they're the least bit angry. They also think the presence of magic in most Mages' lives is very overblown and fairytale-like, more like what you might think of a green witch living in a cottage covered with toadstools and cauldrons full of stray children's bones, or trammeled up in arcane towers where they fly around instead of walking places and grow long beards while conversing with spirits about the stars, and they have candlesticks soaring around talking to them like in Beauty and the Beast. Then they're surprised to meet a mild-mannered twenty-five-year-old who is fairly normal and just wants to talk at you about their work in like sterilizing infirmaries safely or growing a new, more resilient type of grain and then it's sort of this "oh you're just another person." I think they tend to be pretty surprised how non-intrusive the presence of magic can be, and even when it is being used, how fast and easy it is to get used to it: no one really blinks an eye at a Mage coworker lighting a campfire in an instant (you still have to gather the kindling and whatnot, so it's really not that different from the normal way), and there's even allusions to this in the latest serial story on Patreon, where Halek (forgetting that not everyone can practice magic as freely as the Shepherds do) asks a Mage civilian if they can talk to animals and they're like "uhhh no I can't do that because it would be illegal and I don't know how..."
For the Elves, the stereotype is that they're really cryptic, hard to read, and frustrating to deal with because they move so slowly (think the sloth at the DMV in Zootopia, if you've seen that). This is probably not that far off the mark when dealing with certain hardline traditionalists, but because Tallys was well-acclimated to dealing with non-Elves and was already accustomed to using "War Manners" when people joined up, they were surprised to find that she was perfectly succinct and direct and were like "oh that stereotype was so inaccurate"!
I think there is a vague misconception that Hunters are on the whole extremely pious, religious, and sort of priestly (their traditional black garb and their exorcist profession as well as their devotion to Narthax led to this idea), as well as very stern and secretive and harsh; and then everyone met Halek, the least disciplined, most chill Shepherd to ever exist, and were also like, "oh. where tf did that idea even come from?"
Hope that all makes sense!

Okay, let’s get into it gang. I found some answers from a little textbot named Virginia. Today, I was going to add Axel and Elen into a gc to talk about wtf happened, but I notice that our numbers are already in one. I checked on it and it was us three and one other phone number that did not have an area code. I typed “hello?” And Virginia answered.
“Hi, I’m Virginia. I noticed your presence in the Darkworld, and I’d like to extend a mutual offer. Are you interested?”
Before I could type back, Elen typed:
“Is this about that thing that happened yesterday?”
“Yes, you entered the Darkworld and gained your persona. It is a process that I had gone through too. My name is Virginia and I’m in the Darkworld now.”
I typed back, “Wdym you’re in the Darkworld?”
“I’m trapped here. I don’t have a body, only a spirit bound by electric cables, transmitting itself from tower to tower, phone to phone.”
Axel: Edgy.
(I’m switching format for ease.)
Me: So tell us about this Darkworld. What are we doing?
Virginia: I don’t know. The last person who I felt enter the Darkworld was the same person who trapped me here… I wish I could remember.
Elen: How do we know this isn’t like some grand trick? What is that other world?
Virginia: The Darkworld has always been here, at least, it feels ancient. The structures in it, the shadows, the very air itself is familiar and congruent to the real world. There’s just a slight difference: Stupor.
Elen: Stupor?
Virginia: This world is meant to be a one to one conversion of the real world. Anything that isn’t a conversion is what I call Stupor. Enough Stupor in one area creates a Province.
Axel: So like anything that isn’t of our world is stupid
Axel: Stupor*
Virginia: Yeah. Essentially, the only difference between these two worlds would be the shadows inhabiting this one and humans inhabiting that one. But now, there’s so much stupor and so many provinces that I’m getting scared of what will happen if something isn’t done. Stupor isn’t good!
Me: So what do we do about it? And also didn’t you say you had a mutual deal or sumn?
Virginia: It seems your school is relatively untouched, but Stupor grows from the inside out. Was there anything inside your school that seemed weird or different?
Axel and I: The principals office.
Virginia: Then stupor is already there.
- Silence -
Virginia: Everyone has a shadow in the Darkworld. It’s essentially their stand in. If their shadow were to be overrun with a province, they’d be swamped with Stupor in the real world! A human mind can’t handle that much lethargy.
Elen: So there’s a correlation between the human mind and this other world?
Virginia: I think so. Each province has a ruler, someone who acts out of lethargy and fear instead of hope and drive. If this person were to be rooted out in the Darkworld, then maybe it’d return drive and hope to them in the real world. Whether that be a persona, or just their life changing.
Axel: So we should find these rulers and awaken them to their personas? What?
Virginia: Maybe. Is there anything at school thats happening that seems off? Maybe weird or sad, perhaps lazy?
Elen: Not that I can think of?
Me: What about all of those clubs closing and losing funding out of nowhere?
Axel: Are you saying that’s tied to this Stupor?
Virginia: It could be. Rooting out the stupor and whatnot would likely reverse these changes coming. When are they happening?
Axel: December 1st.
Virginia: We have until December 1st to overtake this Province and banish the Stupor.
There was silence in the group chat for a while.
Elen: I really don’t want to get all of the clubs I’m in shut down, but this is a lot to handle. How would we even go about this?
Virginia: We would go through this province and find the rulers shadow. From there, we just have to convince it to be a better person and that’s all.
Axel: Do we know who this Province ruler is? I’d assume Mr. Mondo (our principal.)
Virginia: That’s up to you. Meet me in the Darkworld tonight so we can talk.
Elen, Axel, and I agreed. For the day, I just did homework and studied, nothing crazy. Once night time rolled around, Elen told the gc that she was headed over. Axel and I followed suit, headed over to the school. We met up and exchanged the craziest looks anyone has ever given anyone else. We all talked about Virginia as we walked into the Darkworld.
Before us was a fog of light, vaguely held together in a humanoid form. There were tangible stars and galaxies, even Saturn existing within this foggy wisp of blue and purple light. We all looked at it before it spoke,
“I’m Virginia. Welcome to the Darkworld.”
We all stare at it for a second.
“So what do we do?” Elen asked, leaning on her cudgel.
“Where is the office you were talking about?”
We led Virginia to the office. It stopped in front of the door for a second, rhythmic gallows washing over their foggy constellations. The door asked for a password once again.
“We need one more thing; the fear. What is Mr. Mondo’s deepest fear?” Virginia Asked this white bluntly.
“Girl, I don’t know he’s 40-something. Balding? Dying? Like.?” Axel deflected.
“What about change?” I asked, a genuine jab in the dark.Ike that, the fog that had made a glass frame over the door dissipated into the sky, leaving us with an unlocked door. Everyone seemed impressed with me but I assured them that it was just a guess. Most people are afraid of change. The three of us smirked, feeling somewhat accomplished, even if we didn’t know what we were doing.
“So we’re gonna find Mr. Mondo in there? Or like- his shadow?” Elen aske.
“His shadow is somewhere in that Province. Unless you want your shadow to join him, we must clear this province by December 1st. I recommend we stop here today and regroup tomorrow when we’re fully prepared to deal with whatever may be in there.”
Do we need to bring weapons? Armor? Is this some sort of like game?” Axel asked. “I already have a gun, so we should be cool?”
“Where’s you get that gun?” Elen asked.
“Where’s YOU get that cudgel?”
“True.”
I laughed as Virginia floated over to the three of us.
“The Stupor is still weak- you shouldn’t need much but those weapons and your personas. I’d bring something else- perhaps medical supplies- just in case.” This startled the three of us. In case of what? Upon more pressing, we got the truth.
When affected by this Province thing, shadows conform to the place, becoming mere monsters that inhabit the province. That is to say- there are monsters running around this province we need to enter. Axel and I were annoyed but we had both fought before so we weren’t too mad. Elen was mad, accusing Virginia of hiding that from us so we’d help her.
With that, we left and returned to the “real world.” We now had a mission and a deadline with a direction. It felt so official, like we had all of this power and the chance to finally put it to good, needed use.
I’m home now, typing this on my phone. I’m excited and also a bit scared. It reminds me of the Igor dream, which HAS to be linked to this somehow. The fool will use their natural drive and enervation to uncover a great secret. Well, the fool is getting some sleep. Goodnight guys :3

4, 28, 34 for the ask game!
4: Do you have any OCs? Do you have a story for them?
okay so I already gave my whole spiel about my short film (i'll upload it one day.....) but lemme talk about some of my other characters!
I've got a trio of characters in a nebulous political thriller/high fantasy/steampunk world.... uhhhh basic premise of the magic system is that everyone has a spirit tied to them that is related to an abstract concept, which gives them relavant magic abilities. The spirits can be reeeeally broad or hyper specific- the hyper specific ones actually have individual personalities, whereas the broad ones are too abstract to really keep a hold on something like that
(believe it or not, this concept was cooked up before I knew what persona was about HAHAHA any similarites are coincidental)
the characters are:
Karmen (name pending a change): she's tied to a general nature spirit- very kindhearted, and set to be the next leader of her particular city. but, there are a lot of secrets and shady business that's been going on that she's privvy to because of her position, and she does her utmost to Keep Those Things Secret (stuff that keeps the city safe, but is uh... questionable)
Azaila (...name pending... something lmao): she's tied to a spirit of shadow- very combat focused. she's kind of an asshole fhdkjshfds /affectionate. Her city is wayyyy up north in the snow, and their culture is very merit-based, often devolving into duels and shit for leadership disputes. each family tends to have a 'leader' as well, and Azaila gained this position via questionable means from her uncle (she cheated in the duel lmao- her uncle kinda sucks and she was sorta desperate)
Elias: He's tied to a fire spirit, but due to an... incident (TM) in his childhood, he pretends his spirit is too weak and hyperspecifc to be of any use. he's a knight in the capital's royal guard, as is his father (yay nepotism /j HAHAHA) his whole deal is like... dealing with shit like duty and cowardice and trauma and whatnot
soooo i've had these guys on the back burner for a Hot Second. I'll do something with them one day...... maybe i'll draw them at some point too
28: Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?
I once again have absolutely no idea what I'm doing HAHAHA- if this was like, art advice, I might be able to help more, but.... hm....
I guess: make sure you plan your plot way in advance! Even for smaller stuff! You are not immune to writing yourself into a corner!
following that, though, don't be afraid to deviate from your plan wildly! (i sure have with fftsr lmao) It's important to avoid writing yourself into a corner, but so long as you see where a potential path lies, you can often write something even better if you deviate from it once you've gotten a ways into the story
34: Do you write to improve? Or is that not a concern for you?
it's not really a concern for me, tbh. since writing is entirely a hobby for me, I don't really feel the need to hold myself to any particular standard.
that's a bit misleading, though, since I do still want the stuff I write to be good; it's like, I improve naturally the more I write, and I'm happy with that natural pace rather than pushing myself for any goal. With my writing, I'll be satisfied with what I've got pretty quickly, where I stop and start with my illustrations a lot more if I come up with a better composition or the anatomy is funky or the colours aren't working and yadda yadda (and thus, i improve at art a lot faster (the life drawing classes def helped with that too lmao (anatomy is an interesting beast to tackle)))
ty ty for the ask! <3
#asks#writers ask game#I really don't know how to describe how I feel about things fjkshfdsjk#you can tell i'm doing the hand gesture thing every time I start a thought with “it's like” lmao

saw this on ur Twitter but PLEASE talk about all your various bushmedicines. For me but also only if you want to of course
(blease)
SKDFKSDKF OMFG my many many many bushmeds... yeas.. most of these are Mega works in progress but i think it's good to jot them down here so that i can revisit them when i work out character designs/ref sheets and whatnot! and these are just the ones off of the top of my head! @_@ i surely have more buried in my gf and i's server LOL. sooooo let's break it down really quick! HEHE:
My "Canon" medsnip: the medic and sniper in Thou Giveth Fever is just the Main/Default/Canon/Whatever medic and sniper. takes place in same universe right after the comics!
My gf and i's medsnip: arlowe and wren! a lot of their story takes place pre-teufort but they eventually become RED's medic and sniper! ^v^ "canon" red medic and sniper don't exist in this universe. they're already dating by the time they wind up at teufort together! we're still working on a lot of their backstories but i'll eventually talk more about them/write a fic for them too! ^u^
My vampire medsnip: tumblr Adores them.., yes.,., my vampire medic and hunter sniper! sniper's a vampire hunter who is hired by vampire medic to do some dirty work for him. they end up falling for each other... but not before spilling a lot of blood together!
have another version of them drafted where sniper's a herbalist and falls in love with a Big Mean Vampire who once used to love healing humans more than he loves harming them.. :'( they fall in love.,., show each other tenderness... HEHEHE..
My cult god medsnip: medic is a shapeshifting god/demon/spirit/whatever that thrives and grows in power from the cult that is convinced he exists and worships him. likes toying with them and giving them "signs" he exists and whatnot and loves the praise because, well, who wouldn't! :-) hoo! buuuut a Certain Denier has caught his eye...! sniper thinks that cult nonsense is a load of crap and doesn't fall for it. Naturally this makes medic Carnally Desire him and his attention... HEHE... >:)
My swamp monster medsnip: sniper is a werecroc that lives out in the comfy cozy australian bush/marshland (haven't decided yet). rough it as a human and also as a crocodile and loves being alone. until one day a very curious "Doctor" starts stomping around his secluded slice of heaven in search of/researching the plants and animals of the area (to harvest for his zany experiments of course!)... sniper hates people but this one just seems kind of... Charming... hmm.... !
My eldritch medsnip: MEGA work in progress. need to think about this more actually.,., Medic Is Not What He Says He Is and sniper has a hunch... ;-) medic has a "breath of life" ability which is ironic because the hurting is more rewarding than the healing! :'( HEHE. also have a cool idea for an eldritch sniper but idk if i'd want to fit them in Together or have separate aus!
My old retired domestic medsnip: would follow my "canon" medsnip. years and years later, some vague skip of time. the sorrow..,., the sweetness.,., in the Unlikely Event they retire... how might that go.. :) sniper's fine with aging but medic is NOT. everything can be defied! age! death! isn't that what you want sniper!! but maybe sniper wants to retire to some small house on the german coast with medic.,., medic can extend his life infinitely with his "devil deal" but what about his sniper.,., who has already died once... but could either of them Really ever retire...? HEHEH.., i've actually written a lot of this and i should probably publish it in a standalone fic. very emotional very angsty!!
My pony medsnip: EHE this is an extremely self indulgent one but i love it all the same! does what it says on the tin... what if they were ponies!! i've talked about it here and posted sniper's design here! i need to work on medic's just for the sake of having my own ref sheet to match sniper's but i talk about him in the twt thread i linked! ^u^ <3 i just love gushing about them because i love ponies!!
My demon medsnip: have a couple different versions of this General Concept buut the one i'll mention is a conspiracy theorist/total shut-in/sex-starved/supernatural sighter sniper summoning a demon medic... but instead of it being the kind of demon sniper was after (for whatever reason. havent figured it out yet), it turns out medic's a lust demon... Smirks
My merfolk medsnip: ONE I REALLY LOVE I JUST HAVENT GOTTEN AROUND TO FLESHING OUT YET GRAAHH... i love the idea of one being human and one being a merperson but i also love the idea of them both being merfolk... i just finished spiritfarer, actually properly finished. its impossible for me to talk about this game purely subjective bc its so. close to me. and my lived experience. putting this big long thing under a keep reading, warnings for discussion of death and whatnot as thats the prominent theme of the game, and spoilers for the game probably
please excuse the messy, rambly writing, im very tired and very very emotional about this sad boat game and just need to get my thoughts about it down before i go crazy
impossible to not cry at the end. i bought this game around 2019 on my switch, fresh after two or three big familial deaths. picked it up here and there but could never get myself to the end, either being to busy or it being too much for me. i finally found some time now, after owning it on PC for a year or two, to sit down and let myself experience it.
this game treats the passing of loved ones with such respect and care and the grief that follows so beautifully. even the characters i didnt much care for i felt heavily about when it was their turn through the everdoor. it blends this grief with gameplay mechanics so well, and doesnt ever let you forget those close to you. almost every character either has a resource you can collect because of them, their spirit still there when you need more of it, or theyre the ones who had you build the crafting station to make materials and youre reminded of them when you step in the door. i found myself making sure i had everyones favorite foods stocked in my inventory well past their exit. and to really hammer it in, everyone gets their profile marked in the stars when theyre gone.
stella's job is to take care of people, but shes always felt like a vessel-type character to me, as ive had my dealings with the loss of loved ones and those around me and found it incredibly easy to wear her shoes.
moments that really stood out to me were atul not letting you take him through, you just find his flower on its own. so heavily touched me, a man whos only ever cared for you not letting you see his struggles because he knew thats all youd devote yourself too. stanley, letting the weird kid take it the only way a kid could, curious but scared but you were holding his hand. i cant even begin to talk about daria, shes new to me and i can only hope no one can relate to her story but feel for her just the same. gwen, god i could go on about gwen. all the characters feel so lively, so real, all dealing with whats ending them as best they can.
the one that got me the most, though, was astrid. my grandmother on my moms side passed in 2019, so already getting me with a grandmother character but astrids story and motivations remind me so much of her and one of her lines at the everdoor, "dont forget me or i'll haunt you" sounds exactly like somehting my grandmother would say. tears pouring out of my eyes only beat by the end of the game as a whole. such a beautiful story
and beautiful game, too. breaking from the sad stuff for a bit to say the art and music are so beautfully crafted and touching, every character design and choice of animal so perfectly selected. look at darias profile how can you not fall in love immediately. look at her :3
just. please play this game if you have any sort of feelings about grief and loss. its touched my heart several times in the years since 2016 after lots of familial death and covid. its a bunch of different games at once, largely a resource management and crafting game but the story is so well written and the visuals are beautiful and im soon to buy the soundtrack because i always need it with me
this game means so much to me and will forever be on my mind, one million thank yous and tears to thunder lotus games and everyone involved.

hiiiii 🔥 kpop
HI SAM. SO SORRY. i was busy o(-( but yes kpop. umm. this got long again my bad
there are a lot of kpop opinions out there that already get argued over a lot because they're nuanced and complex but that's kind of boring and annoying to talk about. i think idols need to go on strike. i've said this before as a joke but i'm sort of serious. like there needs to be an industry reset or at the very least an industry pause. industry go to our room and think about what we're doing. we're debuting children and all the idols are like one mean spirited twitter thread away from developing eating disorders if they don't already have them and the music is arguably getting worse and it seems like there's more lawsuits and similar problems every day and there's just so much ToT and i really think just everyone taking a second to breathe would solve most of this or at least steer things towards getting somewhat better. like i mean i honestly don't even know that much about kpop industry wise i just like songs and music videos and funny clips sometimes but it seems reasonable to assume that a lot of the problems with idols being mistreated by companies or managers and whatnot is because with kpop being so hot right now there are people who care more about riding the wave and making money than they do about creating quality and honest content. and i think the thing with so many kids debuting at least partially has the same root issue. people just want to make money as quick as possible and it's easier to do so by pulling in young trainees who are hungry for a chance but have less of their own agency or authority than more experienced and prepared adults would. i know young idols have been debuting for a while and it's not really that new but i think it's worse recently. and all this would be less of a problem if more attention was brought to these issues and people pushed for better standards. maybe say through a strike... as for the music getting worse obviously that's subjective and i recognize music is art which changes in conventions and style and whatnot and there are always some haters that complain about these new styles when they start circulating and etc but there are a lot of people saying that they think nowadays a lot of songs are being created more for the purpose of being catchy and having 5 seconds of viral online fame than to just be good songs. and i have to say i don't totally disagree..... at the very least the way groups advertise songs now definitely make it seem more like that's what they're trying to do with all the tiktoks and insta reels and everything and again that might mostly just be things changing with the times as things often do but well. i'm a tiktok hater i won't totally back down from this. anyways i know a lot of the problems i've mentioned aren't totally recent developments and have been present in kpop from the beginning like the wack body and beauty standards for example but i do believe that something like a strike to bring attention to such problems and urge for better conditions and standards could potentially bring a lot of that stuff on an upward mend or at least stop them from getting worse like it seems like they're doing a lot of the time nowadays...... honestly though this might not be that practical of a take or anything i kind of just want everything in the whole world to stop forever.. i think everything's going too fast and at least part of that is definitely because i'm fifteen going on sixteen when i definitely don't really wanna be ToT sorry to suddenly go from kpop unpopular opinion to coming of age crisis but yeah. support kevin moon. and in the words of dj crazy times: "tell the world, 'stop . . . '".
that thing he says in the middle btw. it's a shortened version of 큰일 났네 which literally means "it's a big deal" but it's just something you say when something vaguely shocking happens. like oh dear or omg

Since you asked here’s a little big question dump (may have overdone it a little):
How will Zelda and the Resistance react to Kori? I think Link would probably hide Kori from anyone outside of Ordon for safety reasons and whatnot, so has Kori ever left Ordon?
How does Kori deal with his light sensitivity?
Are there any types of festivals in Ordon? How does Kori react to the fauna & flora in Hyrule in the beginning? Favourite animal?
How likely will Kori get lost?
And Skullkid.
…Yeto & Yeta. I feel like those 2 are great with kids.
The resistance reacts pretty well! They’ve seen a lot of things and with one of their members having a kid, they are pretty excited for Link. I did really want to have the resistance more prominent in this au so Kori does meet them! I did some changes to the resistance tho as time passed by, they have two (or three if you count Link) more members! Renado and a mysterious person named Sheik. Telma thinks that Kori is a sweetheart, Auru thinks he’s a charming little boy, Shad asks him a billion questions like the nerd he is, Ashei is nice enough but she’s not the greatest with kids, and Kori doesn’t know that he’s technically met Zelda, but Sheik is very recluse and mysterious so he’s kinda scared of them. But overall, the resistance likes Kori!
Kori is usually fine during the day as long he has a pitch black room to sleep in at night. He loves being outside and as he’s gotten older, his body has gotten more used to the light, but at night, his skin is already irritated from the light and he needs it pitch black, which is why he sleeps in the basement. Some days may be brighter than others and he usually stays inside or in the shade on these days. Being around water is hard too sometimes since the reflection can be blinding. But yeah, cloudy days are his favorite cuz he doesn’t feel as much irritation as he does on sunny days.
Idk if there’s any festivals in Ordon…. I haven’t thought about any of that stuff! Maybe they have a festival for the light spirit or something, a small tradition to pray for protection by the light spirit. Link makes sure that Kori takes it seriously since he has met the light spirits and knows how important they are to the different provinces.
Kori loves the whistling grass. That’s all he really focuses on anyways since you can whistle all sorts of things and animals comes to you. He’s a little hesitant about the hawk one tho cuz the hawk is big and he can’t hold it on his bare arms.
He loves cats. And dogs, and horses. He also loves trying to catch frogs. He just loves animals in general lol.
It’s VERY likely for him to get lost lol. He got lost in castle town and that was bad
Kori has never gone in the lost woods and for good reason. The chasm is hard to cross and Link makes sure that he can’t go in there. It’s too dangerous.
Hmmm, I haven’t thought about Yeto and Yeta. They’d probably have a kid of their own, which Kori would probably enjoy playing with them!

shows everyone this oc i made n folks love her and then 2 minutes later come out with new ocs that im even more obsessed with like haha sike sorry. i was gonna wait until i had more drawings of howl but ive already been sittin on em a couple days so yk
anyway these are what came from that doodle page mess from a minute ago, goose was the first but i needed an oc who would work to be shipped w snatcher so then i made howl and decided there were 5 of them. they're supposed to be mostly borzoi/italian greyhound mixes? idk. either way they run on ahit rules but i might use em in other places too idk yet. Summary of their characters are below the cut
so they're a litter of 5 and no one is keeping track of whose oldest or youngest or whatever
unusual i know but i also cant figure out where i want them to be anyway so shut ur face
we'll just go left to right from the top
somewhere on her travels goose ran into hk and bow and was worried about these strange children being alone in space so she decided to come with them and like they arent gonna complain about their new dog
shes not the best with other people but she takes good care of them both and keeps them protected and fed and whatnot.
it works its cute
shes the only one who has a collar because shes the only one who has a person out of her siblings
nk n then howl! howls got a lot going on
they got a fairly dinky ship when they left it was sturdy enough but like not Good good yk
and at some point way before hattie and bow and goose end up there, they pass over harbor because theyre tryna figure out if they wanna stop for a supply run or not and the mafia shows up n makes trouble ofc
she gets the mafia to leave her alone but in the process ends up crash landing somewhere near subcon (not sure if its like in the woods or just off the borders but close enough either way)
in the crash tho, a bunch of time pieces shatter n get fucked up and end up scattered across time
she has to go through and try to clean all THAT up because plain n simple those things are hard to get and just leaving a jumbled mess like that it Very Not Safe
in this whole debacle her family dont know whats happened and the ship is kind of undocumented because the crash basically happened forever ago but also it hasnt yet but also it never did?? so like. shes missing for a good decade before shes finally back to her present (by this time hat n bow have come n gone so she missed goose anyway)
while she was going through time collecting time peices, she got in whole heeps of trouble and while its only been 10 years in her present it feels like its been at least 50
shes gotten acused of witchcraft, cursed about 5 times over, there was that one time she was thrown in a dungeon for 7 years for disrespecting a king or something
point is they came back fucked up
they're half undead and their soul is a little bit missing because someone stole it at some point and they only barely got it back a little bit. also cursed to be tied to shadows so being in the sun too long isnt very good for them.
ive also been playing with the idea they were cursed to live either other people's spirits and energies OR their flesh. not sure which yet
i do feel like it'd be nice if they and snatcher could end out with a deal where he eats the souls and she eats the bodies. or something
this whole change of theirs is supposed to be shown by them loosing their white on their face. theyre the one laying down in the last drawings which is supposed to be them while their in college years and shes got her white face. she looses it when she gets all tied up in the darkness thing. she also gets taller than her siblings they were the shortest originally
neway im till daydreaming abt the whole thing so yk
the other siblings are less important but still cute
duke is also an astronaut but his explorations tend to go better apparently. he comes home with a cute alien boyfriend later
paris owns a boutique that brandy helps her out with- they stayed on their home planet together with their parents when the others went to space.
speaking of, brandy is rlly nice
aside from her different markings which always set her apart real nice shes also trans. so grew up a little bit othered but still very very loved and also her and paris are besties obvi
brandy is good i like her a lot. i think shes be like second eldest if not eldest eldest if i had a real order there
her and howl bond over having different markings from the otherwise when howl finally gets home :)
#art#oc#Goose#Howl#Duke#Paris#Brandy#goose n duke also used to be bffs as kids and goose grew up calling him duck#soz if its hard to figure out whos who when its not colored theyre supposed to be pretty simliar#hope its not TOO hard at least#neway im gon lay down n chill out

I’m turning 24 in a week! 🥳 I have a secret though. 😆 I’ve been calling myself 24 ever since the year started. Minsan nga nakakalimutan ko nang 23 pa lang pala ako. 😅 I’m thinking about it being more like a mindset than a couple of numbers, do yunno what I mean? xD
So how do I feel about turning 24? Do I have to feel something? I think so. Do I have to make a big deal out of it and put it on writing? YUP! 😂 It’s not every year that I turn 24 in mind, spirit, and actual age. Lol.
I actually like it, turning 24. I feel like I’ve been presented to a whole new sense of responsibility and accountability. Weird feeling, but it’s here within. I feel like this is another start. In many ways, it sure is another start. Haha. But aside from them all, I do hope that it’s a new beginning of someone that I am. I can already feel that I’m leaving someone that I used to behind. I’m not gonna forget her, I’m just leaving her here, there, somewhere that she should be left in. I won’t forget her, though. I’ll always be thankful to the versions of me, even when I’m not always proud of how I acted and reacted sometimes.
I’m glad to be growing. And I’m most certainly happy to grow more. If growth entails pain and failure and more self-blaming, I wouldn’t mind. Self-awareness will always be my priority. I know I should be careful and be more wise when it comes to knowing myself, and I can only hope and pray for me to be ready. Sometimes, it could lead to self-sabotage, and I don’t want that.
I know. I’m aware that I only have a year left before I reach the point of complete development in some parts of my brain. I’m about to be an adult with a fully developed frontal lobe. 😂 Kaya mas uunahin ko talaga ang pagkilala sa sarili ko and all my traumas, my demons, my pet peeves, and more before I explore out there. And, oh!!! I’m also working on myself sa lover girl concept. HAHAHAHAHAHA. And aspect? Jeez, this is funny. I have to quit thinking ill of having to share my freedom with someone else. Huhu. I’ll get there. 😂 At least I started while I was 23, right? I’m trying to have an open mind about relationships and whatnots. Phew!
Thanks to the books that I’m reading, I’m finally getting comfortable about the idea of having a boyfriend. 😣 Getting pa lang, ha. I’m not there yet. Wew! 😮💨 KASI IT WILL ALWAYS BE WEIRD—o, ‘di ba!!! Naka-always pa rin. Ugh. Right now, thinking about it, it’s weird na may maghahatid sa akin, I’m not used to that. I’ve almost always brought myself home, never minding the darkness and the fact that I am alone. Huhu. I have sooooo much to think about, to consider, and to compromise with. I hope that I’ll be ready when the time comes for love to come knocking on my door. Naku, shuta, baka sunduin pa ako. 😬 Chariz.
I also want to think of my future, financially. And academically. And more. Yes, I have so much to prepare for pa. Especially before getting into a relationship. I WILL NOT enter a relationship without being stable in many ways more than one. Jusko.
I also wanna start a collection! OMG!!! Small joys that I won’t allow to be vices. Ooooh, this must be the adult urge to collect something? Lol, no. I just happened to fall in love with a specific masterpiece that I want to know it more, dive deeper into its universe, and learn more about it. I’m liking it a lot, I kinda regret getting to know it just recently. Hmpt. But this may be its perfect time to exist in my life, so, yeah. At least dumating. Yiiiie. <333
And lastly, I want to write moooore. I want to be moooore consistent and be mooore intentional.
Here’s to hoping for the realisation of these things! 🥳

Day 0 [Restart] of Building Elsa's Ice Palace
As you can already guess, consistency is not my strong suit. I went back and forth a lot on what I could do, then work threw me for a loop and I kept losing sleep. Anyway-
Over the last few months I've realized I can't get the property short notice- mostly because even if I were to get a second job, lenders would need proof that I was at that job for 2 years. That figures :/
So I can't get the land to build a to-scale Ice Palace any time soon. I'll have to think long term, and then just hope that I'll find an ideal lot/location when the time is right.
But I CAN afford a fixer upper that I can update, make a home-friendly Elsa-inspired theme and rent it out. It's not an ideal solution and a lot of work, but I need at least one stream of income, and honestly at this point getting a house now before they get even MORE expensive is probably best.
(Before anyone gets jealous: I've been living with my mother the past ten years and now make 18/hr and can ONLY afford a fixer upper. Or a tiny house. I just got lucky that I HAPPENED to find a house that was only halfway renovated that will work for my plans. Also, relatively low cost of living in my area.)
Things you should know about me before subscribing to this blog:
I am a singer/performer that's been out of practice, and I'm a dramatic theater kid. Comes with the territory.
I don't actually love the Frozen movies, but I have madly loved Elsa and her arc and all her aesthetics for about 10 years (and have no idea when I'll stop).
I love cats and ultimately want to rescue lions/big cats/other possible exotic animals that will be ultimately abandoned/abused in the pet trade.
I have a weird sense of humor.
I struggled with severe mental health issues the past few years and am still struggling to come out of it. I will be open and frank with my struggles, but will try to remember to tag everything accordingly.
I fully believe in the spiritual realms. Psychics, spirits, angels, demons, and the like. I won't actually talk about them often unless it's relevant to a struggle I'm dealing with.
I am a Christian and struggle with my faith, and do believe in a Hell, but I don't believe that lgbtq+ folks are specifically doomed for Hell. I may not answer questions about my faith, I just want to let you know ahead of time when I mention church and prayer and whatnot, since it is a part of my life.
I love anime.
I am a feminist that wants to solve men's issues too. I fully believe the patriarchy hurts men too.
I am a white passing, half Hispanic woman from my father's side. If I make comments about racial issues, that's where I'm coming from.
I'll add other things in the future as I go, but those are the main ones. I hope the rest of you will enjoy this journey with me as much as I imagine I will.

The Warlock is Contracted...
The Warlock is Contracted...
There’s this phrase you’ll hear: “The only difference between paladins and warlocks is that one’s got an employer and the other’s got a sugar daddy.” This is a funny tweet that went around, and like many funny tweets, it’s useful for interrogating an idea, presenting a useful handle and it starts an argument.
by NargesArt
What’s the difference between Warlocks and Paladins, it asks? According to this, almost nothing. Except for the way one of them is physically powerful and heavily armoured, and the other smell like cloves, but you know, we’re being needlessly reductive here, right?
The Warlock’s power source, in the broadest, top-down sense, is arcane, the type of magic that is typically used to represent amoral entity-agnostic energy that exists to react and to be reacted to. Arcane magic is a classically ‘sciencey’ magic, where there’s no agent or intentionality behind the way the powers work. Back in earlier editions of D&D, arcane magic was the magic that did things without caring about who it was doing them to – it could control minds or blow up areas, but it had a hard time with say, controlling everyone who wasn’t a particular type of character or whatnot.
It’s part of the symbolism of arcane magic, really, the way that arcane is y’know, wizards with pointed hats and not clerics with their pointed comments. It’s kind of Western European Idea of Science as applied to magic. Arcane spells just do what they do and their ability to affect people is very similar to chemical reactions, with a lot of technical rules and specific reactions; this many meters of iron wall, sleeping up to this many hit dice, summoning a thing from this table of potential entities with matching traits. This also means that, coincidentally, if there’s a spell with a rules loophole in it, in almost any given edition of D&D, it’s going to be an arcane spell.
I propose in this context that Arcane magic is to be viewed as interfacing with latent, present, background magic. It’s the air, it’s the radio, it’s the wifi, it’s the substance all over everywhere, and it can be affected by things around you but by default, it’s so high volume and so present everywhere that you can’t really run it out or disturb it itself, in the same way that any one person’s farts are meaningless for impacting the ecology of a rainforest. It is a natural, renewing, replenishing resource, and it can be treated as omnipresent, but also, much like radio waves and radioactivity you aren’t going to be able to interact with it meaningfully on your own.
Well, Wizards can, but those are some nerds, and they’re doing nerd stuff to do it.
Buncha nerds.
Bards do it, but it’s a trick, something picked up from Someplace, little techniques that connect in some ways to the magic of music and community spirit but may also just derive from ‘I saw a wizard do something like this.’ Artificers are doing magic through machinery, making devices to handle and divine that universal magical force. Swordmages, they’re doing nerd stuff but jockishly, so they’re on a college scholarship.
What if you wanted to jump past all that?
What if you wanted to control and access all that arcane power without all the messing around with nerd stuff?
You’re smart enough, after all.
by Nino Is
Thus into this space we get the Warlock, an arcane character who opts to skip the whole ‘nerd stuff’ stage of arcane magic and instead deal with an intercessory agent who can make magic easier for them. That is, the arcane magic is there already; what the Patron is letting you do is control and manipulate the magic that’s already around you in an easier way than learning years of study. The Warlock’s patron provides access, not power; the Arcane power of the world around them is something they can’t naturally control, and the Patron permits that control in a way that is not easily or immediately revoked. You’re not sending a request to the sysadmin to blow something up for you, you’re doing it in an immediate sense.
The character of this agent varies, as does their capacity to act in this world, and from there we introduce the Warlock’s definitive lore characteristic, their Patron.
You don’t need to be able to name a Patron or anything like that. What’s important about Warlocks in the context of the universe is that Warlock Patrons aren’t significant on a global scale. A Warlock doesn’t appeal to one of the gods, one of a small handful of major powers concentrated at the top of a hierarchy. The infrastructure of a Warlock is not international and global in the same way. Warlock patrons are instead powerful and obscure at the same time. Power that has an influence well above the individual but not power that puts them at the level of the Gods.
maybe
Because the Warlock Patron rules are very ambiguous. They’re there, and they may sometimes make reference to types of patronage you may have, but the scale and scope of power of the Warlock Patrons are uncertain. In the context of my setting, a Warlock Patron is usually something orthogonal to the normal power structures people expect; things like a Fey Prince, a Cursed Constellation, or a Demon Prince, something that’s obviously very powerful and very dangerous (and threatening to mess up with) but not something that can burst out through you and destroy the world.
by Stu Harrington
As a roleplayer, a patron has a lot of different ways they can be treated, but the biggest question I’d forward is how like a person is your patron?
In the existing space of the 4e Warlock, the rules contain a bunch of pacts with different degrees of Being Bothered feat support. This list is Dark Pact, Elemental Pact, Fey Pact , Infernal Pact, Sorcerer-King Pact, Star Pact and Vestige Pact. Setting aside the Elemental Pact (which is extremely malnourished and relates to Dark Sun mostly) and the Dark Pact (which is just ‘drow shit’ as a Pact), you have this list as reaches from ‘most like a person’ to ‘least like a person:’
Vestige Pact: The Vestiges are essentially, ghosts. Oh sure they say ‘they’re like the last memory of a blah blah blah’ but they’re ghosts. They’re ghosts who have had all but the single most driving thing about their life faded away and leave you with a single drive or motivation, some aspect of who they are that lingers after you use them to access magic. This pact has a lot of humanish things with humanish motivations, but there’s a lot of them. This means you’re essentially constructing a contract for interaction with a committee. Imagine then, what it’s like to negotiate a contract with an entire business, and how every individual appeal is like contacting a whole arrangement of people to try and see who in this building can print.
Could this Eldritch Blast have been an email.
Sorcerer-King Pact: This pact is from the Dark Sun setting, too, and it’s a bit malnourished and I don’t really care. Mechanically, this pact cares about having a stored resource you can spend, but also, this is primarily about building on the history of Dark Sun, in the name of like, seven powers, none of which stand out as being that good. Point is, this pact… exists. It is barely more than the Elemental Pact, but at least it has an idea.
Infernal Pact: The Infernal Pact is where we first get a thing that looks like what a ‘pact’ with a higher power is. Infernal Pacts are about making deals with supernatural, evil powers, demons or devils or what, yugoloths, if that’s your bag. This is a great space to start as a Warlock thematically, because demons are great asshole bosses, people who can always be determined to have ends at odds with yours but can range from being angry at what you’re doing against their ends or trying to manipulate around you. Note that if you’re going this route, you need to think in terms of the contract forbidding you and them from doing things.
by Stu Harrington
Also this is a fun pact to use because you can tell your friends in the party oh yeah sorry, I can’t do those chores. Pact. Gotta. You understand. I mean, hey, I gotta demon I do deals with, I gotta make sure I’m doing some small evils so they don’t mind the big goods, right? Haha, and of course that’s a lie, but that lie is also a small evil, so you know, it all works out.
Fey Pact: The Fey Pact is the next step beyond Infernal Pacts, and this is where you start dealing with an individual in charge of your power access, but whose power access is tied to someone who isn’t as simple or coherent as ‘evil.’ Fey powers are human-ish in that they care about stories and history and have some way of engaging with people like they’re people, but they don’t necessarily recognise the way that humans care about things like ‘keeping all their blood.’
See, an Infernal Pact? They’re just evil bastards. They are against a major force, and against one another, and they’re all pretty consistent with a coherent ideology. The Fey Pact, however, may have a completely ethically unstructured vision of everything.
Star Pact: And then there’s the next big step, the Star Pact. Star Pacts are full on Lovecraftian horror. You can interpret stars as a lot of different things, they might be the beautiful glimmering lights, constellations with a heroic imposition. They might be wonderful travellers, seats or thrones of the gods. They might be an audience to every living soul! But also, and this is important, they might also be the vast, yawning hungriness of space that circles around our world of warmth and light like an ocean trying to warm itself around a candle.
When concepting your Star Pact, bear in mind they are inhuman. Contracts with the Star Pact aren’t negotiations with people, they’re containment procedures. They’re about a connection to something so alien and wrong and distant that it doesn’t even hate properly. It’s a thing where the nature of your contract is about giving this power defined channels to slosh through, because the magic is itself inherently unlike life where you are.
by Nino Is
What is important, however, to the Warlock is the contract. The relationship that Warlock has to their contract is a topic I’ve considered in the past, but setting that motivation aside, the contract has certain traits that are necessary for it as a contract, and it gives you a control interface for arcane magic. That interface could be completely unique (and hey, it probably is), but it is defined around the pact. We don’t get a lot of information about the contract we call a pact, but we can, objectivist style, do some very preliminary logical demands.
First things first, the contract is a contract. That is to say, a contract is a mutually agreed-upon set of rules for interface between two or more parties, which is known to both parties. To agree upon it, you have to know what’s in it, which means that in my opinion, a Warlock should have been involved in the negotiation of their contract (to some extent). Maybe you can have a contract with some odd demands in it which were made under pressure or duress, but those present opportunities for a story – a patron appearing at an opportune moment to make something happen, for their own reasons but with the excuse of negotiating the contract.
Second, the contract contains the contract. What’s not in the contract isn’t part of the contract. Your patron can’t just turn up and make immediate demands of you (unless that’s something you’ve defined as acceptable, under the terms of the contract).
That’s all you can really get that’s definitely true about the pact.
Now you may notice that nothing in here, nothing in the rules, covers ‘how Warlocks lose their powers.’ What the contract looks like when it’s violated. In the game rules as they exist, that implies that there’s no way for that to happen. If that’s the case, then that implies that the player should be seen as capable of successfully navigating around this contract.
Think of your players as people capable of doing good and cool things. Think about these stories not as opportunities to mete out as punishments for using power to change the world but instead what it means to confrontationally use power that tries to resist you.
And that’s different to how Paladins work…

9 Things I Could Do Better During My Exchange Semester
Inspiration for this post came from my realization as I went to a 2nd exchange semester and it went much better than the first time.
These are really basic things but have much impact, so here me out. And no, the below photo is not a Stock Photo but was taken from the dedicated Erasmus nightclub's Facebook page and yes, I am there too.
Last weekend I had my best friends over. We met in Lithuania in 2016
by coincidence during our exchange semester. One of them was my next-door neighbor at the dormitory. The other met that neighbor in the line of the embassy. Through the years our bond got stronger and
we created lots of memories. We were chatting and I had a realization, my exchange semester in 2021 was much more fulfilling than the one in 2016.
So that got me thinking about what I did good and how could I do better. So, if you have an upcoming study abroad experience you should keep these in mind.
1. Memories
I believe creating memories are as important as the trip itself. So my number one is definitely related to the exchange of memories.
What I did well: Traveling new places, planning lots of trips, going solo to some, and trying new adventures
What could be better: I could have created a lot more solid things. It still brightens my days talking about that time. But looking at the -few- photos I took takes me back to that day. It would be definitely better if I created more photos, even videos, a blog, or at least a travel journal. I have a post on how to start a WordPress blog for beginners to give you a boost in the process.
2. New Friends
I am usually a bit introverted but the spirit between you and other students is something different than regular friendships. For example, our exchange student group at the university consisted of 200+ people. We all chanted “once Erasmus always Erasmus” from our hearts at every chance. Even though we never met each other before we would make friends in a few minutes.
What I did well: I met people all over the world from all over Europe to Taiwan, India, Sri Lanka, and even China. I am glad I met them and knowing there are people everywhere you are sharing something mutual is amazing.
What could be better: I could have (we all could have) met with more locals. Even though we had some local mentors they mostly backed to their normal lives after a while as we were busy chanting Erasmus things. The exchange groups offer amazing things. That’s true but locals also have better if not equal friendships and experiences too.
3. Adaptation
Now you have moved abroad and will have a new life there even though it will last a while until you’re back home. The better you make things work the more you will feel like a part of the country.
What I did well: I attended all my classes, did classwork, learned about the country’s traditions and special days/events, and found a way to participate.
What could be better: Even though you live in a new flow sometimes things from home cover your mind. It can be family, friends, health matters, and heartbreaks. If you can do anything about them easily from away just do it already. But if you are trying hard and nothing happens or there’s nothing you can do from there, just live it like that. You will be dealing with it when you are back and losing valuable time abroad mostly does not worth it.
4. Packing
I will write a more detailed post on what to pack and whatnot soon but I will shortly sum this point too.
What I did well: I brought stuff I know I needed such as my hairdryer and a blanket. It takes a lot of effort and time to fully dry my curly hair. If I didn’t bring it I would be sick walking around with a not fully dried head. Also, a blanket is not something some would think packing about for exchange. I catch a cold easily at night. Knowing myself well I packed a lightweight blanket. Also by chance, our dorm room’s heater was broken. They didn’t fix it so our room would be cold in the Baltic winter. I am not saying you should bring a blanket or a hairdryer but these mere my vital stuff and helped me. So bringing the things you need is important.
What could be better: Somehow, in contrast to packing some useful stuff I ended up with clothes I rarely have ever worn in my luggage. I had to shop a lot during my exchange semester. So if you ever think something along the lines of bringing clothes you don’t like/wear much and leave them there after your exchange period; don’t.
5. Culture
As I always tell and just told above, it is important to be a part of the country. It passes from learning traditions and cultural aspects also the language.
What I did well: I learned a lot about the country’s history, culture, traditions, and special days/events. I found ways to participate or at least attend the events.
What could be better: I regret not learning the local language, Lithuanian for my case, a bit more than “Aš nekalbu lietuviškai (I don’t speak Lithuanian)”. They were offering a 3-credit course for beginners at the university. We also had online Lithuanian courses on Online Learning System. But still. By the way, OLS is the free online system to practice languages related to your Erasmus+ exchange studies. So, use OLS for a free local language course and join volunteer-organized lectures. Almost every university has them.
6. Souvenirs
I personally like collecting stuff from places I visit. Not bringing something from a country I lived for a lot of more than just a trip would be weird.
What I did well: I collect fridge magnets so I made sure to get some and also I found some other cure items such as a Trakai castle candle, local beer bottle caps, keychains, and stickers.
What could be better: While getting souvenirs for myself I didn’t forget to get some gifts for my loved ones. But it quickly escalated to buying gifts for even far relatives and people I don’t see or talk to much. It not only cost me a lot but packing them was also a pain in the stomach. I would only buy gifts for people I really feel like.
7. Discovering the Country
If you don’t usually travel a lot or if you are not from the region you are visiting or need a visa to normally travel you may feel the urge to see as much as you can.
What I did well: I have visited many other countries and a few places in the country I did my exchange semester and I’m glad I see these places.
What could be better: On the other hand, I ditched opportunities to visit more local cities and regions to visit some other country thinking I will have a lot more time to discover them later. It doesn’t happen and time flies so fast and when you recognize that you will be packing your luggage back.
8. Bucketlist
We all have things we hope to do one day and sometimes these can be accomplished easier far from home.
What I did well: I love electronic dance music and have never been to a music festival before as they are not common in my country. I had a chance to attend Summerburst in Vilnius and that program was cheap – 70 Euros for both days and look at the names here! I was lucky enough to take a front row while
listening to most of them and especially David Guetta who was my most listened artist back then. You can check the event's old Twitter page for more photos.
This was the program of the festival. Look at all these names!
I was in the front row too! See my shots of David Guetta and Alesso
What could be better: Seeing the northern light was and still is another thing on my bucket list. We had a chance to visit the Northpole with the Erasmus Student Network trip for 300 Euros covering transportation, bungalows, special gear and clothes, a reindeer sled tour, an outdoor jacuzzi, etc. Back then it was the same amount as the monthly grant so I passed it thinking I would visit later. And years later it is one of the things I regret the most as our currency value drastically dropped and Covid happens so it will cost me a lot more than it was in that time. What I’m saying is if you won’t completely go broke after doing a thing; just go for it and tighten your buckles afterward. You will forget little things or skip meals but that memory will last life long.
9. Legal Topics & Laws
Ok, ok, I normally always check the common rules and laws beforehand and always obey but sometimes you will just listen to an exchange buddy of yours and end up getting a ticket like me.
What I did well: I obeyed all needed laws and regulations and specially asked the exchange office for some points and was doing well as usual.
What could be better: Until I listened to an exchange friend for his tip on using the transportation card. Our transportation card had monthly packages, you make installments one time and use it for 30 days. That friend told me I could use the card in Kaunas (another city) the same as Vilnius (where I lived). I did and ended up getting an 8 Euro ticket as you could use the same card in Kaunas as the pay as-you-go method but the package vas invalid.
I was later asked about that ticket for my 2nd visa interview to Lithuania and I was so embarrassed while explaining what happened. I also still have the original payment receipt for the ticket from 2016, just in case. Think how much I still care about it. So what I’m saying is don’t take advice on local laws and rules from a foreigner like you and double-check it.
Final saying
Thankfully I had an amazing exchange semester covered with amazing people and lots of memories but as you see there are lots of things that I could make better. And thankfully as I am leaving soon again for an exchange semester I have the chance to do better this time. How did you find these points? Do you have any other recommendations for me and others?
Looking forward to hearing your could-be better points!

been thinking about some aspects of Khalan's backstory again lately and I kinda felt like updating this post a bit with some new information and a few changed details, even though I said in the original post that I wasn't planning on changing much haha. but it is what it is, I suppose.
another trigger warning for under the cut just in case, since there's still some brief mention of child abuse and whatnot (because Khalan's dad was a terrible person).
new edit [as of 01-07-24]: as I said in the original version of this post, a lot of this is outdated information already... but since this is a reblog, any edit to my original post won't show up, so I had to mention it here as well. Sorry, I just haven't figured out how I want to explain all the newer changes yet ><;;
---
new info:
I feel like Jal's treatment of Khalan was likely a bit more physically abusive than I initially considered. for a while, I tried to distance from that concept a bit and mostly only deal with the psychological side of things... since the angry, violent father trope is just really common for OCs, I think.
but after analyzing Khalan's character a lot more, and how he tends to withstand quite a hefty amount of physical damage before cracking, it made sense that he would've developed some tough skin through years of putting up with his dad's violent tendencies. however, Jal was very good at covering up his actions and managed to also keep Khalan from telling anyone in the village about how he was being treated - since Khalan still loved his dad and didn't want to be separated from him if anyone found out.
this treatment also spilled over into Khalan's immense fear of fighting back, and why it's such a big deal for him that he overcomes that fear and learns self-defense within the Drehmal/Atria timeline (what I consider to be his canon timeline). he's so afraid of becoming anything like his father that he refuses to hurt anyone, even if his life is in danger... though this obviously changes over time when he finally makes meaningful connections with others, as he develops an intrinsic desire to protect the people he loves.
---
updated timeline stuff:
[Update 1]
for one thing, the time frame in which Jal turns into a zombie has been altered a bit. Instead of that happening when Khalan is 21 or 22 years old, I decided that it happens a few years earlier, when he's 19. So it's only about one year after he moves out.
this is also around when he gets pulled into Drehmal, not too long after the zombie incident... meaning that he meets Aya and the others for the first time when he's only 19 (putting him at 21 in Atria).
it's not a huge difference, but it still felt like it made more sense for his character to be a bit younger and a lot more naïve in his experience by the time he shows up in Drehmal. This also means that, because he and Aya are nine years apart in age, she would've been only 11 years old when the two of them met.
[Update 2]
The other concept that I decided to change up was how Samara and Khalan met. since I've made the choice to turn the Primordial SMP timeline into Khalan's canon story, that means that he and Samara wouldn't have had much time to get to know each other before Khalan gets whisked away to Drehmal. and that just didn't feel Right so I figured I'd change it a bit.
so as a result, Samara now meets Khalan when he's around 13 years old, right after his grandfather passes away (yes, I changed that too). she's still a spirit hiding within the body of a cat (that much doesn't change), but her initial interactions with Khalan were simple - where he found her taking a nap under the awning of the tool shed one day while he was working in the field. since he loves cats, he immediately began to take care of her by offering her food and cozy places to sleep and lots and LOTS of head pats.
Samara, being someone who absolutely loves affection, instantly warmed up to him and stuck around because she liked the attention, but slowly began to learn more about Khalan and his terrible home life over time. being rightfully upset over what she saw, she initiated that two-way friendship between them; trying her best to be a source of comfort for the kid whenever she could (though Jal didn't allow her inside the house).
so she ended up becoming very protective of Khalan from that point on, and stayed by his side when he eventually chose to leave home - because she knew that he wasn't prepared for the outside world and needed someone to keep him safe.
---
anyway yeah, those were just a few edits I thought of earlier and figured I should share, so this post remains relevant. considering the fact that I initially thought I wasn't gonna change anything before, but still ended up doing just that, I have to make a small disclaimer that these ideas probably aren't set in stone and may or may not be changed at any point. but for right now, this is pretty much what I consider to be canon ;o;
Character backstory time!
with Khalan's birthday coming up (Oct. 29th), I figured I might as well do something kind of Special and share his whole backstory with y'all since I've never explained everything in full :0 he's really the only character so far who has a backstory that's stayed consistent pretty much since his creation, so I feel comfortable sharing it as there's not much that I'm planning on changing about it. this got extremely long tho so it's going under a cut. I hope that's okay.
NOTE: TW for some mentions of parental abuse (psychological and emotional, specifically) and death of family members.
Khalan's story starts off in the secluded desert village of Malja: a shining oasis in the middle of the harsh, arid climate. his parents (Jal and Cleo) ran a farm along the irrigation canals by the water's edge, and the two of them had plans of continuing with that profession for the rest of their lives.
what they didn't plan, however, was a baby - Jal never wanted kids to begin with, so he and his wife were careful not to conceive for that reason. but of course Cleo ended up getting pregnant, which Jal saw as a terrible stroke of bad luck.
pregnancy was kinda rough, things usually didn't go great, but that was mostly due to Cleo's family line being cursed with a tangible bad luck that had stretched on through her family for generations. she knew that Jal didn't want kids, but she tried her best to placate that by telling him that she'd be the one to raise their kid so he didn't have to cut back on his work.
unfortunately, Cleo died not too long after Khalan was born, so the responsibility was placed squarely on Jal's shoulders to raise the kid he never wanted. However, for the first year or so, Khalan was actually given to another family who had just had a child - so that mother could keep him fed until he was old enough to eat solid food. in that time, Jal fell into a terrible state of depression over the loss of his wife, and he never quite learned how to move on from that bad mental state once Khalan was placed into his possession again.
that emotional distress carried over into his treatment of Khalan, to which he ended up being emotionally neglectful and quite harsh over the years. Jal had no frame of reference for what a good father was supposed to be, as his own dad was abusive (and was actually banished from the village because he got caught) and his mother was negligent, so that kind of behavior is all Jal knew how to replicate.
as a result, Khalan grew up in a household where everything he did was scrutinized and he was never "good enough" for Jal no matter how hard he tried. expressing his frustration or discontent over this treatment usually only led to strict punishment (such as being forced to work in the field for much longer than he was physically capable of, or even being denied food), so Khalan eventually learned to rarely speak his mind in order to avoid making his father angry with him.
On the flipside, though, his relationship with his grandfather (Cleo's dad) was wonderful. Although things were tense between his grandfather and Jal (as the latter refused to acknowledge Cleo's existence, and the former was very open about talking about her), Khalan would always sneak away to the library to spend time with his grandfather even when he was supposed to be working at the farm. Jal explicitly told Khalan not to do that because of his own personal issues and grudges, but the loving relationship that Khalan and his grandfather had was enough for the boy to push his boundaries and disobey Jal's orders just so that he could hang out with the librarian.
a lot of Khalan's kind and caring nature comes from this bond. his grandfather was a gentle but humorous man, who loved to tell stories and crack jokes and share details about his daughter's life with Khalan - so he could appreciate who his mother was even though he never really got to know her.
sadly, his grandfather got sick and ultimately passed away when Khalan was around 16, but before he passed, he was the one who brought up the concept of travel and cartography. Cleo always wanted to travel outside of the village, but she willingly put that dream of hers aside once she married Jal. Khalan, on the other hand, became enthralled with the idea of taking up his mother's dream as his own and doing the very thing that she couldn't do.
the only issue? Jal didn't want him going anywhere. though he clearly didn't really show much respect for Khalan as a person, something that he DID hold onto was the fact that Khalan had the strange ability to see things beyond what he knew via his dreams. Jal knew this was useful, and he became reliant on Khalan as a sort of "prophet" to warn him of dangers to their property before they happened.
of course, Khalan's visions didn't always work that way, and he hated sharing his personal dreams with his father (most of which usually revealed the fear he had of his dad), but Jal would force him to relay whatever dreams he had just in case one of them was important and useful.
but overall, that was a big driving factor behind why Jal had Khalan in such a tight hold. he never wanted a child in the first place, but this one happened to have a gift that could be utilized in a way to help Jal. on top of that, Khalan had always worked hard to make things a bit easier on his dad - so he was a source of free labor that was easy for Jal to take advantage of. he saw his son as nothing more than a tool, really.
when Khalan finally became of age to officially choose his own profession (18), he settled on cartography, having put in some practice with art and map-making in secret over the years. because of this choice, however, he also had to make the difficult decision to put his foot down and stand up to his dad in the process - making it clear that he was tired of being treated like an object and simply wanted to be his own person. moving away from home was the only thing Khalan could think to do in order to break himself out of the abusive hold that Jal had over him his entire life, and he was at a point where he was just tired of putting up with it.
this whole conversation didn't go over very well. the two got in a terrible fight over it, but in the end there wasn't much Jal could do to stop Khalan from leaving home. (he did instill a LOT of guilt tho that Khalan holds onto for a long time.)
so Khalan left the village to start charting the world around him. being completely unprepared for the dangers outside of the village, though, he was almost immediately ambushed by a Creeper the moment he stepped outside of the safety of the village walls.
enter Samara! that's when the two initially met, as she was the one to protect Khalan from danger ;o; since then, she stuck by his side in order to keep him safe on his travels, and obviously the two became really close friends.
from that point on tho, things only got worse between Khalan and Jal when he eventually did return home to clean up and finish the maps he started. he didn't exactly have anywhere else to go, so he showed up at the farm once he was finished traveling for a time... but Jal still held a bad grudge and ended up completely disowning Khalan after that encounter.
fortunately, the village cleric/leader ended up taking Khalan in for a time, and helped to get him a place of his own on the outskirts of the village where he could always return to after his travels.
so with that, Khalan now had his own house and was finally settling into the life he wanted, even though the sting of what happened with his father still deeply hurt him. but at least! he was finally his own person and could make his own choices, which was really all he had hoped for.
it was the next time he returned to the village after an expedition that he learned that something terrible had happened to Jal, and that whole zombie encounter took place. by this point, Khalan had only been living on his own for a few years (he was like 20 or 21 when this happened), so because of how recent his moving away was, he feels like his dad's death was a form of divine punishment for being "selfish" and leaving. this event really pushes Khalan into a bad mental state for some time, but with both Samara's comforting presence and the cleric's help, he eventually is able to pull himself out of it and move on.
that's roughly around the time when he meets the others in Drehmal tbh :0 it's not all that long after the zombie incident happened, which is why it's something that he still struggles with every so often in that story.
however, as far as the Jimmy Neutron AU is concerned, that takes place quite some time after all of this; when Khalan is around 28 years old. so he's had time to settle into the life he chose for himself before Jimmy shows up and completely pulls him out of his comfort zone (and changes his life entirely lol).
so yeah. that's about it. I've explained some of this before within his journal entries and some past art (which is where the links throughout this explanation lead to), but I figured it was probably time to actually share more about him with y'all ;o;
kudos to you if you managed to read all of this haha. hopefully you found it interesting even if it's pretty depressing ><;; my boy has had a rough life but he's still doing his best despite that :'0

How Blackpink acts when they’re angry tarot reading Jennie and Lisa edition
Jennie: moon rx, queen of swords, the Leper king, revenge 23.
Jennie:
Welp Jennie is definitely not a forgive and forget type of person lmao. Idk why this popped in my head but I got when she’s really pissed, she’s highly likely to spill all your secrets and drag you like she really doesn’t care. Like extremely critical and will say anything to get under your skin. You really don’t wanna be on her bad side. And I’d be careful of telling her stuff because if she gets mad enough she will use it against you.
I find it interesting how 3/4 cards are holding swords and how the leper king and queen of swords are nearly identical and holding the swords in their right hand and one holding a head and the other holding a lantern. I’m getting she likes to put people on the spot when she’s mad at them because she wants to embarrass them. Also with the moon reversed I get that she isn’t very good at hiding her anger; it’s always pretty obvious because she’ll become more icy and aloof. She’s too honest to hide when she’s not angry even if she tries. If she gets into an argument with someone she will never back down, her belief in herself and her ideals are very strong.
The other person will literally have to just be like “okay fine” cause you just can’t win. She doesn’t like negotiating with people “do this or gtfo” basically. Lmao why does “don’t hurt yourself” by Beyoncé pop up in my mind. I think that song really encompasses how she is when she’s angry. I like when the cards reflect her birth chart because this is so much scorpio moon and moon conjunct pluto behavior. And of course I assume this is all for a more extreme situation and not like if someone ate her toast she’s suddenly gonna fuck up your whole life and have her dog shit in your cereal. At least I don’t think so but I’d pay to see that tbh.
Lisa: knight of swords, 8 of swords, Osiris, glided regret 5
Lisa:
Okay this isn’t from the cards but I just got that the thing that causes Lisa to get angry the most is that she doesn’t feel like she’s getting paid properly or enough. I know this is cliché and pretty sure already known but I got it’s specifically a woman so maybe the female ceo? (I clarified with an extra card and got queen of wands so I assume it’s a woman in power in the company) That uses company money for personal use. This also isn’t new info because I’m pretty sure there was news of this months ago but idk.
Anyway when she’s angry I don’t think she’d hesitate to go off on someone tbh and say some harsh things to get back at someone. She doesn’t care if she’s going against the grain or acting controversial she just impulsively does things when she’s mad. Though she might regret the things she says later on with that gilded regret card at the end but in the moment she’s not thinking in an emotional way but more logical and cynical.
It mostly gets triggered when people try to box her into things or suppress her ideas which is ironic considering thats yg’s hobby. She has a lot of ideas running through her head and ready to take action but she hates the fact that she has to ask for permission for everything and watch most of her ideas get shut down. I think because she’s not afraid to take risks but others aren’t willing to take the same risk or trust her and it pisses her off. It’s like she has to do a watered down version of her ideas.
Ending random ramblings: I didn’t wanna mention the Lisa money thing but I swear to god it always pops up for her. I always rolled my eyes at people who said she wasn’t getting enough money or whatever when she has these huge brand deals and whatnot but yeah Lisa is not playing around when it comes to money. I have a personality reading for her coming up and there’s a similar theme in that one too. I really think Lisa is gonna take off solo one day and if she doesn’t I’ll be really surprised because she’s too free spirited tbh.
Jennie always confuses me because she simultaneously comes off as dominant sometimes and other times she’s something else Idek. Every time I do a reading on her I always think that something is off. I’m doing a whole ass childhood reading on her because I’m nosy af and because I wanna see why she is the way that she is. I also wanna do a personality reading on her so if you have questions about her personality then send me ideas. (Or of anyone else too)
I was gonna put all 4 members together but I haven’t finished Jisoo yet and I wanted to put something up after 800 years before I become more rusty than I already am. So she’ll be with Rosé. Also yes this is me acting as if I didn’t just ghost this blog for 87 days lmao.
Btw thanks to the anon who requested this back in May lol
