“Strange you have got to fucking kidding me? So let me get this straight, first you cast a tampered spell then assume you contained it because you put it in a box even though when you first did the spell it exploded everywhere. Now you have entrusted this mess to the same group of teenagers who were the essential basis of this mess. Not to mention the one who is the reason for all this?” You sat in your car on the phone with Stephen as he had asked you to come down to the sanctum.

“That’s why I am sending you down to mediate the youth center in the basement because I have bigger problems.” Stephen had just gotten free of one of Peter's webs and was agile enough to get his phone and call someone who wasn’t Wong.

“And what could you possibly be doing right now?” You pulled up the curb putting your car in park still leaving it on to talk to Stephen who was connected to the bluetooth.

“Dangling over the Grand Canyon because the little shit webbed me here and took my sling ring.” Stephen was embarrassed to tell you but knew you could tell if he was lying.

“He what? Who has the sling ring now? How did he beat you in the mirror dimension? Yknow what no, no more questions for you just figure it out there. In the meantime I will babysit your ragtag team of multiversal criminal catchers.” You hung up the phone before he could utter another word that would be no help to you.

Walking into the sanctum you rolled your eyes at it’s condition seeing that somehow the weather had managed to get inside, though the place seemed empty you assumed that they were somewhat listening to the direction of Doctor Strange and were still in the basement. Though the closer you got to where they were supposed to be you didn’t hear any noise.

“Peter Parker, you are grounded forever.” You said loudly as your voice echoed off of the walls as you were met with with a completely empty room, though you could tell they had been there due to the condition of the room and the fact that the inside of one of the cells had sand in it and the other had small rocks littered all over the ground.

“Looks like the youth group went on a field trip” You spoke to yourself pulling out your phone once again, this time to call Peter who was in more than trouble at this point. He was way over his head taking all of the villains out of their captivity.

“H-hey Y/n what’s up?” Peter sounded nervous at the fact that you had called his cell phone directly and you had never done that before.

“Location now. I don’t care what you’re trying to do I wasn’t directed to stop you I was directed to make sure you did not royally fuck up any furhter.” You knew that Peter was going to have a list of reasons not to tell you and on top of that he was going to have reasons why he did what he did but you were in no mood for that and by the sound of your voice he could tell.

“I will send you my location right now just please don’t get angr-” You hung up on him and sat in the messages the two of you shared waiting for his text and the moment it came through you hoped for his sake he wasn’t lying.

“Wong cannot know this happened or it’s gonna be everyones ass.” Getting in your car and turning on the GPS you could not imagine the lecture you and Strange would receive if he found out especially you for picking Stephen’s side in this fight since the three of you were really good friends and that was always an issue. You were always the middleman and now you were the babysitter.

Pulling up to the given location Peter had texted you other specifics in order to get exactly where he was, fueled by anger and frustration you moved faster than you planned on. Not noticing the shaking trunk parked right next to your car. Pounding on the door you could hear a mixture of voices from behind it, one of which sounded quite young.

“Y/n please listen to me.” Peter’s eyes were incredibly wide as he put his hands out in front of him as you stalked closer to him closing the door behind you.

“Absolutely not, you directly disobeyed every single rule you had, you screwed up the timeline with Strange, and now you’ve brought them to a fucking condaminium. So now you’re having a nice little dinner together? Planning on making this a bed and breakfast for multiversal criminals? Before you even start with apologizing, know you are not forgiven by me and Stephen is gonna lose his shit with you the moment he sees you again. Oh and by the way I don’t wanna hear your little plan, move fast get this cleaned up. I do not care how, just do it.” The teenager in front of you stood with his mouth shut staring at you, not sure whether to move or say anything back because based on your tone you were ready to snap at him worse if he did anything.

“Let’s go, now means now.” You clapped your hands at them before shooing them away looking around the room you saw unrecognizable faces, those of which did not look happy with the situation either as Peter ran back into a different room.

“Y/n?” You heard a male voice pipe up from behind you as you were standing in the middle of the room looking around at everyone including Aunt May who was fixing drinks for everyone or at least offering them before you showed up.

“Yeah, that’s my name.” You turned around to face a man who was wrapped in his own machinery looking directly at you confused.

“How did you end up here? That’s not the right Peter Parker. Why do you know him?” His eyes were scanning over your appearance recognizing you based on that and your name he knew it had to be the you that he knew and not someone else.

“Who are you? Why do you know my name? This is my dimension and sadly that is the Peter Parker I know, right now I wish it wasn’t because then I wouldn’t have to play principal to a bunch of reckless teenagers with a half witted plan.” Speaking carefully not wanting to upset him since he was clearly very upset, whether it was the position he was in or if he did know someone in his universe that was another variant of you and was just confused.

“I’m Otto Octavius and I know you because in my dimension you are someone very special to me. I’m surprised it’s not really you I know because you look exactly the same, identical in fact.” He swallowed harshly now looking down at the arm wrapped around his body.

“Would either of you like a drink?” May popped in to offer the two of you something as she was feeling quite out of place in this situation entirely.

“Yes, water please.” You smiled at her knowing how weird this had to be to her, first she’s got spiderman in her house who is now one of the most hated people in the world and now she was surrounded by people who were clearly not the most friendly nor sane. “Are you thirsty?” You asked Otto as he finally looked up.

“Actually yes I am.” He nodded his head at the two of you as May filled a cup for you, handing it over, nodding as you thanked her as you took a sip.

“Salt or freshwater?” May smiled as she looked at him trying to be friendly and you held the cup close to your lips trying not to be seen laughing.

“What?” Otto snapped back a bit confused as to why she would ask him such a question seeing as to how it was obvious that he was a human with metal tentacles rather than flesh ones.

“Because you’re an octopus.” Her face scrunched up a bit now she was looking to you for some sort of answer feeling like she had just said something to upset him.

“I think he drinks fresh water, and maybe get a straw so he can actually drink it.” You pulled back the cup still laughing a bit lifting your head back up you sat your cup down, “So, what’s your life like? What am I like?” You were now invested in this idea that you existed outside of this timeline.

“You in my universe are the most darling person. You are quick witted, hilarious, caring, and one of the most accepting people I know. I have made many a mistake in my life and yet you have stayed by my side no matter the consequence. Though we don’t agree on most of the things I do, you don’t try and agress the situation further. Rather you try to understand my point of view.” Otto answered your question without hesitation and decided to only speak about you and not the rest of his life.

“Wow, well I must say that is an accurate depiction of me.” You laughed a little bit at your own words as a small smile creeped onto his features. “If you don’t mind my prying then I must ask, how did you end up in this compromising situation?”

“Let me tell you a secret, never touch metal with nano tech. Peter’s now in control of them and I am stuck like this until he makes a cure I don’t need.” Otto sounded confident in the idea that he was perfectly fine and there was no issue with him.

“If you don’t need one then why is he making one?” You tried to make this sound like Peter was in the wrong rather than him.

“Because that kid thinks he can fix all of us even though we don’t have issues, we just have abilities that he is not fond of for whatever reason.” He was clearly getting more aggravated with the topic at hand not wanting to be where he was.

“So if you could be anywhere right now where would you wish to be? Truly not based on anything, just where would you feel the most happy?” You weren’t sure what was going on other than what you were told, but this man didn’t seem threatening, at least not towards you.

“At home in my living room with my Y/n telling her all about this situation. I’d apologize for disappearing so suddenly, well I guess I would have more apologizing than that to do. But I would do it, then I would ask for her forgiveness and if she gave me that like she had a million times before I would ask her about her day over a nice pot of coffee. She has always been the one person to keep me somewhat grounded.” You didn’t know this but him seeing you again even if it wasn’t his Y/n made him feel something he hadn’t been able to in quite some time.

You smiled and nodded because out of the corner of your eye you saw Peter coming out of the room staring at the two of you confused before messing with the controls of the metallic tentacles.

“Y/n? Why are you here?” You now turned your head completely to see another man you did not recognize in even the slightest. Though based on the current situation you assumed he and Otto came from the same place in time.

“I’m not your Y/n but apparently I’m a lot like her and look pretty much identical as well, weird coincidence.” Speaking with your hands quickly you looked up at the doctor who was being forced up with Peter standing behind him.

“Hey Parker, this better not fuck things up worse in this timeline or in his.” Nodding at the two of them you took a deep breath in watching as Peter fought with him to place a chip in the back of his neck near the end of his head.

The moment the piece was placed, his head fell forward and he let out a breath. Peter tried speaking to him and waking him up as the room stood still, all eyes on him.

“Otto? Hey?” You shouted over Peter saying Doc over and over again hoping that Peter had not just accidentally killed him or made the situation worse.

“It’s so quiet.” His head popped up and Peter let out a sigh of relief as he did so, also happy to hear that he was already feeling better.

You smiled, let out the breath you were holding, shaking your head around a bit as you heard Otto continue to talk to Peter before descending back to the ground where everyone else was. Peter got down with him, giving him back the control of his own body and returning the nano tech back to himself.

“Feel better?” You were standing in front of him once more as he looked much happier, though he didn’t look particularly unhappy when he was speaking to you. But you did notice how he had been speaking and looking at everyone else in a negative fashion.

“Tremendously. After seeing you here today I have never been more excited to go home and see her. Though the voices could never take that from me. My dear Y/n she will be so happy to have me back in this way. “ The two of you smiled at each other.

“You ever come back as you showed up or like this just know you’ve got a friend in me. Clearly you’ll know how to find me considering my life here never slows down and most definitely won’t if Stephen keeps doing magic tricks with kids.” You joked and this time he laughed with you as you stood together in the middle of the room as Peter ran back to finish his other solutions.

“I knew that the moment I saw you, no one with her name and physical features could ever turn a cold shoulder to anyone. I’m glad I met you because now I have faith that this version of my world will be a better place wherever you step. If we cross paths on my end, know that you have a friend there as well. I cannot wait to see her again. The things I have put her through are horrible and she did not deserve that at any point.” Otto was reflecting slowly on the feelings he was now able to have.

“If she’s anything like me mixed with what you say of her then he will forgive you, especially when she sees you so happy to see her. Live your life with her the way you want to, and tell her that I said hi.” You weren’t sure what horrible things he was referring to but you could also see a new man from the one you had spoken to only moments before.

“I’ll be sure to let her know all about this ordeal and mention that there’s another one of her running around doing great things just like her. I hope that when I go home she’s dancing in the kitchen to music or reading a novel on the couch, those are two of the things she most enjoys. I would love to join her to dance around with her again rather than work on some project or to ask her about her book rather than rant about something she already disagrees with me on. I don’t deserve her one bit.” He smiled at the memories he had of the two of them together.

“I’m sure she will be and I am so sure that she will be wonderfully happy to see you. If I had one of you around I’d tell him hi. Seems like you’re the only one of you that exists which is a good thing because two men as smart as you running around would be quite the spectacle at this moment.” Trying to think of anyone even slightly similar seemed impossible.

“Thank you for the kind words, I really do appreciate this, no matter how this turns out I will fight on your side if there is one.” Little did he know how right his words were as Peter came out of the room looking for his aunt as something felt terribly wrong…

Yknow I been trying to be the bigger person and remain calm but the fact that it turns out one of my (now thankfully ex) friends turned out to be just so manipulative and cruel (but also staying around to "help me"? I'm not your child?) Is heartbreaking. And the fact anyone else would look at the situation and think im out of line for cutting out someone who is just bullying me for having boundaries? (And trying to chalk up me behaving reasonably to me "going through things" like how fucking patronising) Somehow stings worse.

Like Jesus how messed up do you have to be to type yourself up a little manifesto about how people are being meanies for not doing as you told them (when the thing you are telling them to do is "prioritise aggressive people who make you feel unsafe over your own boundaries or else" but you left out the context where you were the problem didn't you? Dunno why tho we have the fucking receipts)

I do enough prioritising the growth of others at my own expense given im living with an abuser. My social circles aint getting the same out of me. You all will respect my boundaries and let me not talk to people I dont like and not engage in conversations that are deeply upsetting to me or you can fuck right off. I do not have the TIME for this childish crap any further. Next person who starts anything im going to maul you.

this is kinda specific but;

basically hero and villain are just walking, hero wants to know more about villain by annoying them but villain just want to be left alone. then suddenly villain is like "oh shit theres some heroes nearby" so hero shields villain? yknow that kinda "pulls into an alleyway and hides them by pinning in a wall" so now their faces are really close and villain is flustered?? like their persona of not caring about hero is breaking .. hero looks all serious looking to see if the heroes leave but villain is just like "ohshitohshitohshitwhatthefuckwhydoifeelthisway"

my bad if youve already done something w like, pinning to a wall lol

“Can you shoot lasers out of your eyes?”

“No.”

“Does your hair glow in the dark?”

“No.”

“I’ve heard about people who can tear their arm off and throw it at people and grow a new one. Can you do that, too?”

The villain stopped in their tracks and looked at their nemesis who was walking into them as of this moment.

“No,” they answered for the third and hopefully final time. To say they regretted telling the hero about their contact with radioactive material was too little of a word. Too little of a description of their feelings. However, the probably bigger problem was that they had seen two superheroes patrolling two blocks away. They needed to go home. Now. “I can’t do any of these things, okay? I’m normal. I don’t have fancy powers. I am still breathing just like you and I cannot tear off various body parts. Understood?”

They noticed briefly how the hero’s gaze was going over the villain’s shoulder but their nemesis was still polite enough to nod slowly.

“Are you sure you have no powers? 63 percent of people with powers have had accidents with radioactive matter,” they answered, their eyes still not on the villain.

“No. Stop asking so many questions.” The villain was about to turn around but suddenly, the hero grabbed their wrist and pulled them with them into the next best alleyway. Before the villain could observe the situation, their back was pressed against a cold wall and the hero was incredulously close.

“You should talk to a doctor. It’s probably not healthy to touch such things,” the hero whispered, continuing the conversation as if they were still standing on the street. As if the hero’s knee wasn’t near the villain’s crotch.

“Uhm — what the fuck are you doing?” Most importantly, what the fuck was the villain doing? They just let themselves be pinned against the wall like that as if they were not the physically stronger person. And the hero was just so…so oblivious and so relaxed even though something was clearly going on.

The hero peeked around the corner at the street again.

“Ah, you know. Keeping you out of a bit of trouble, maybe.” Finally, their eyes found the villain’s and their lashes jumped up and down. The villain could feel their own heart skip a beat. Fuck.

The hero wasn’t supposed to look at them like this. They weren’t supposed to have that small curve of their lips, making them appear as if they were smiling constantly. They weren’t supposed to have such a sweet grip on the villain’s bicep. And the things the villain was thinking about were definitely not supposed to be in their head.

They somehow wished the hero would rake their hand through the villain’s hair. That they would lean into them with their eyes on the villain’s lips and their hands travelling down their body and reaching—

The villain’s thoughts stopped before they could reach embarrassing heights as the hero — unfortunately — let go and checked again. When their body came back and pressed against the villain, their face wasn’t as lighthearted as before, their mind wasn’t quite there. There was a frown. There was a straight lined mouth.

“…what did you do?”

“Stole a weapon. Kind of.” The hero’s hand slid down the villain’s arm, following the muscles absentmindedly. They looked at the ground, their strangely perfect face deep in thought. The villain bit the inside of their cheek but it did unsurprisingly little. Physical pain was apparently not scaring any feelings away. They made a mental note.

“A new expensive world-destructing weapon which could kill all of us with the press of a button?”

“No…why?”

“The whole agency is here.”

screw it have the cosmere/transformers thoughts that plague me

spoilers ahoy

i'm willing to bet that whatever Adonalsium was, Primus and Unicron may be vaguely similar entities depending on interpretation. obviously the cosmere belongs exclusively to the Shards, but if it's a dwarf galaxy, then perhaps, just perhaps, Cybertron's galaxy could be its neighbor

(please picture Adonalsium and Primus studiously ignoring each other across lightyears of empty space bc they have their own problems thank you very much that other god over there is minding their own business)

Unicron may not have been strong enough to eat Adonalsium straight up, given that we know he can be defeated by Primus/various forces vaguely allied with Primus. but the scattered, weakened Shards warring with one another... hmmm the cosmere might look like a nice snack now

IF we go with the understanding that they are similar but alien entities to one another, then would there not be an entire system of "investiture" equivalence for Cybertron? you've got outliers and point-one percenters, you've got the Primal artifacts of great magic power, you've got everything about the Allspark, the Spiritual Realm Well of Sparks, the various properties of energon and sentio metallico and transwarp energy, etc. i'm willing to bet that there's an entire Cybertronian paradigm to realmatic theory that could be explored by perhaps a very very lost member of the Seventeenth Shard that has a similar setup but different power source to the cosmere

and if that's the case, could Transformers even intersect at all with the cosmere's magic systems, when they run on their own system? could they absorb or be affected by investiture if they're full of energon and powered by a spark? would they be immune to any invested influence, but likewise be unable to use their own outlier abilities on an invested object, or a Shard-influenced or Adonalsium-created thing?

i'm not going to touch on Era 3 or 4, there's already so much to explore with "low tech" cosmere lore that i feel like bringing in computers and spaceships would just blow my mind and provide so many cool alt modes for Cybertronians to scan.... (that said i really need to read TotES)

spren manifest as metal in the Physical Realm. is a Transformer spark simply a powerful spren manifesting/forging a metal body in the Physical Realm?

is a Transformer's frame simply really fancy Shardplate?? (and didn't Brandon say that it would be extremely hard but possible for Radiants in Shardplate to combine?? helloooo gestalts)

could a Cybertronian bond a spren? would it function like a Headmaster/Targetmaster binary bond or like a proper Nahel bond??

would the Magnus Hammer be able to influence the Stormfather?

also coppermind Matrix. it's orange and everything

yknow that TFP episode where Optimus was dying (as usual) and then the hammer remade him bigger better faster stronger? something something he's a Returned (even moreso if you consider he's canonically one of the reincarnated original Thirteen)

actually i think i could argue that anyone upgraded to a Prime by the Matrix is a form of Returned

would LOVE to see a shade from Hell react to a Transformer. likewise would love to see anyone in the cosmere deal with an undead mech, be it ghost, Terrorcon, or Allspark-fueled

i think kandra wouldn't be any more gross to the average Cybertronian than any other organic, they're all made of meat and bones and recycled organic matter anyway. they'd probably think of kandra as organic Mutacons?

they'd probably find the color draining effects of Breath very morbid. after all, their own corpses go grey. it seems fitting

would cold constructed mecha be reforged into their spark-determined true form given enough investiture?

could a Shardblade cut through Cybertronian armor? assuming a mech is forged from cybermatter/sentio metallico, the metal flesh of a living planetary god, i'd like to think that may register... a little bit special, in realmatic theory

even if their armor was just normal metal, how much aluminum is in their makeup?

and if a Shardblade can slice through, would it deaden the limb or just cut it in half?

relatedly, could an Allomancer burn shavings from a mech's armor? if they're made of cybermatter instead of regular metal, what kind of effects would that have?

could an Allomancer steelpush off a mech?? would this mess with their internals? how precise could an Allomancer get with what particular body part/how deep into the frame they're targeting? a human weighs nothing next to a mech, but could they take one down by steelpushing the circuitry of the processor?

could energon store stormlight? or does it already have its own "investiture" equivalent as crystal blood of gods

photonic crystals can store sparks, so could they capture a spren?

Lockdown would collect Hemalurgic spikes

Sebarial and Swindle would be instant besties

Nightblood and Starscream. picture it

KELSIER and Starscream. oh god

would Kelsier punch Rung

for that matter would non-Cybertronians or people not native to the Unicron/Primus section of the universe operating on that power paradigm be able to perceive and remember Rung?

the Ghostbloods would try to take advantage of sudden giant alien metal warriors showing up out of nowhere. i'd like to think it would be a comedy of errors in miscommunication and accidentally thwarted plans until Kelsier throws up his hands and decides to call it quits on these guys

Soundwave would visit Roshar and have the same "it's the most beautiful music in the wooooooorld *sob*" breakdown as that one G1 episode upon hearing the rhythms and tones, i think he'd absolutely be able to hear them naturally

HEARTS OF STEEL STYLE TRANSFORMERS BUT COSMERE THEMED INSTEAD OF EARTH STEAMPUNK

Bondsmith Optimus. because yes

Lightweaver Jazz. spymaster? sound and light show? it's perfect

flying contest: Windrunners, Skybreakers, and Heavenly Ones vs Seekers. who wins? (personally i think nobody would "win" bc the two groups are functionally doing Very Different Things)

for a more applicable contest of power, anyone with the Surge of Gravitation vs Victorion

Ultra Magnus/Minimus Ambus would be right at home in Azir, please let him have fun with other rule-happy bureaucrats

and if you read this far, the real final reason i've thought so much about this...

i literally just want to see Hoid have to deal with any Cybertronian. i seriously cannot pick a favorite individual or scenario. Hoid ending up on the Lost Light? Hoid plopped on Cybertron and anointing himself Prime's Wit of the functionist regime bc by god they need someone to knock them down a peg? Hoid discovering a frozen Skyfire or Megatron on some cosmere planet? Hoid collecting minicons? Hoid adding another esoteric power to his list and getting possessed by the Cube ala RotF?

Pro tip: never let someone who doesn’t understand the RP in RPG run a DnD campaign

Post Ep: quite possibly the best episode of the season so far. Things actually happened for once, and it was all character focused. By V9 standards this is an absolute masterpiece

Hey the OP changed to show Jaune’s ugly ass breaking the 4th wall. Don’t care about your sad face dude

Oh goddammit not this 1st POV shit again. I get doing it for Ruby bc yknow. Main character. Show’s named after her and everything. Jaune? Not so much

So we don’t even get an indication of when Jaune originally showed up? Where even is he?

Ah yes, let’s just skip right past the trauma of someone waiting literally decades for people he knows are coming but not when to have some silly whoosh sound effects and bullet fast questions

One thing I will say is I much prefer this voice to his usual. It’s far more natural and far less grating on my soul

WHY ARE THEY MAKING WEISS LIKE THIS. WHO IS THIS BITCH AND WHERE IS THE REAL WEISS

Like, if she’d shown any interest in an older man before this then, fine, Weiss would be into older men, but this is coming from literally fucking nowhere and feels like, yet again, the writers are catering to themselves via their pet rather than thinking about what the characters would actually do

“We got everybody out” think you’re missing a few dozen folks. Yknow. The ones who Cinder exploded off the bridge? Even if the explosion killed all of them, which is statistically unlikely, there would still be bodies somewhere. Thanks to the timey whimey fuckery, we could see them falling from the sky at any time, which would be gruesome as fuck but a very poignant moment of failure for them all

Aaaaaand once again the team’s attempts to have a proper fucking discussion about their past actions and the subsequent consequences interrupted. By fucking Jaune. Goddammit

“What cat?” Does Jaune not know the story or is he attempting to clarify it’s Curious instead of some other resident? Also, damn that was actually a good bit of voice acting. Is this Luna or is someone else playing Elder Banana Boy?

Especially if one of those mistakes cost her a brother she never spoke of again, perhaps eventually even forgot due to the guilt?

I think Blake should’ve been the one to say it first. She’s the one with the running away problem, so her being the one to step up and face her fears in such a personal manner would be far better for her character arc than urging Yang to take the leap instead

I really like the checkers going dull when Curious gets sad. They’re genuinely the best part of this volume, followed only by that gorgeous mushroom forest. I just wish their colors were better. There’s a difference between bright and eyestrain, and they very much are the latter

Why is Ruby having an episode over Cresent Rose’s return? Is it the reminder of what happened at the V8 crossroads? The responsibility it represents? The identity she no longer has?

This would be easier to understand if we had any build up. If the return of her weapon is going to be this heavy, then the loss of it at the beginning should have made a serious impact. But it didn’t. She didn’t even look for it. Never once talked about it. Outside of fights, Cresent Rose’s absence has been completely ignored

And why is no one seeing her very clear and obvious distress yet AGAIN? WBY cheer when she gets it back, but it makes them seem ignorant to the point of callousness. Par for the course this volume, but the longer it goes on, the less I actually care about any of this

If her supposed friends, including the overprotective sister who apparently raised her, don’t notice Ruby waving more red flags than Sayaka Miki, then why should I be bothered whenever it’s happening? If the story keeps dragging her symptoms out episode after episode, cutting the scene any time it feels like we’re about to get somewhere, then why should I invest any energy into it? If the story doesn’t care, why should I?

Luna is, indeed, still the voice of Jaune. Great improvement, boyo, keep this voice for him forever

is there a term for trans neutral radical feminism. like i just don’t care, i think the issues women face are way bigger than defining what women are or aren’t yknow? i’m not including or excluding trans women, i don’t care if they fall under the umbrella of who i’m talking about or not, women need change. i think when we get to a point where women are being attacked we can handle the trans women debate, but for now i think it’s not a defining point. would that be terf?

I don't use the term "terf". It was invented by trans activists and is used in lieu of "feminazi". I don't accept men's rebranding of women. Also it reduces radical feminism to this one single issue. While it is an issue it's definitely not the most important one to me and, depending on where you live, it might not even be on your radar at all. I don't blame you for not caring if it's not a pressing matter in your culture. I can't say it's irrelevant though, as gender ideology and post modern academic nonsense have real consequences for women and especially gender non conforming girls. Appart from the problem of men stealing scholarships, awards, medals and elections from women, speaking on behalf of women, assaulting women in female prisons, telling gnc girls they aren't girls, the promotion of sexist stereotypes and the violent harassment of feminists and lesbians is hard to ignore in certain countries. And it all starts with the post modernised assumption that women are a bunch of stereotypes one has to embrace. That's why many women insist on the actual definition of what a woman is. Which seems like an insane thing to have to do in 2023 but here we are. I would also say that if you are a radical feminist then you don't include men by definition. It's a political movement by and for women. Oppressed people have every right to be "exclusionary" towards their oppressors. Also we believe that women are oppressed because of our sex and that it is a matter of class struggle. That's the basis of feminism as a whole. Trans activists are disputing that. That's why it's a prevalent issue in some countries. That doesn't mean it has to be the central issue for you and I definitely think it's taking too much space especially online. North america tends to dictate what the rest of us should care about. But there's no reason we should be talking about gender ideology more than anything else. You're not required to, as a radical feminist. And you're not required to call yourself a radical feminist at all, if it doesn't fit. Just try to practice feminism. Beats any label.

some thoughts on the owl house

disclaimer: during my watchtime, the following things happened:

i was drunk (not enough to not remember anything, but enough to maybe not remember everything correctly)

i was tired/sluggish

my internet sucked (so some episodes i had to watch through almost unbearable stuttering, and i skipped one altogether [the body swap one in S1])

but none of these things happened for ALL episodes, and the further i watched the more invested i was. also, this will cover every episode up to the latest one released (for the future). so here it is. Some Thoughts about the owl house incoming:

OVERALL: after going through the first few episodes, i somehow ended up getting reminded of undertale. but maybe not for the reasons you might think: yknow, two stories involving a human accidentally breaching into a world full of magic and fantastical creatures, with no easy way of getting out. but it wasn't for those structural reasons, and more like the fact that TOH seems to be a deconstruction of the tropes it's presenting, just like undertale deconstructs the usual RPG and plays with its tropes to tell its story.

i find this change refreshing because even if it's not a new idea, i like that the fish out of water has such high expectations for what she'll experience in this new world. and i was surprised when they kept that angle as the show went on: i was yet again reminded of toby fox when luz is presented as a writer (yknow, giving the protagonist a trait/skill of their creator, just like how kris plays the piano in deltarune). there are a lot of aspects about it that are very thought provoking and greatly enhance the experience.

another thing is that i was pleasantly surprised to see that not only the show was willing to put through its complicated world and make it central in the story, but also that almost every thing introduced in the show wound up being important and building the bigger picture. like, the last stretch of the second season was just crazy to watch, and i was amazed and so, so happy that the show took its time to get there in the end. i see the hype and i agree, basically.

that’s not to say i don’t have my issues with some things. what i don’t think i will be going over in the sections below i’ll say here: i think the show is decidedly unsubtle. not necessarily a bad thing, but it ruins the potential of certain moments. there’s stuff that i like, some examples being: the light glyph being integral to luz’s presence in the show (since luz means light in spanish); how amity has brown hair just like her dad yet is dyed green to match her mom’s; hunter’s name; the owl beast appearing in eda’s dreams; uhhhh that’s all i can name off the top of my head. i think in some cases the messages are delivered clumsily due to the lack of subtlety, but i also think the show gets better about that as it goes along - i consider it a S1 problem, mostly.

there’s also the elephant in the room about the show being shortened for reasons we don’t know about in the slightest. man, fuck disney lol. below, there’s a lot of places in which i would’ve wanted to say certain thing needed more time to develop or other things feel rushed/incompleted and i’ve omitted most of them because i understand this is a limitations the writers weren’t aware of and had to restructure the whole final season of the show into three 45 minute episodes. i therefore offer my sympathy and won’t criticize the show for that. i’m sure a lot of people have talked about those things (the break-neck pacing of some plot-lines and other stuff being introduced in a not-so-seamless way), so you won’t need me to repeat what you people already know.

even with all of those things in mind (and the criticisms that you’ll find in the rest of this post) i loved the owl house and i’m very happy i took my time to watch it. i’m not really the kind of person to watch movies and shows very candidly - in fact, the first time i decided i would watch TOH i was drunk and just forced myself into it. i am pleased to have done it because this is a great show and i wish i could’ve grown up watching something like this - esp considering the main character is a bisexual latina girl of color, just like me. i hope further shows in kid and tween channels follow this standard and all in all i love it enough to feel very invested in these characters and the major plot beats of the story.

LUZ: i really like luz!!! i just think hopeless optimistics that are actually hiding a lot of guilt and trauma are incredibly compelling characters and a lot is done with it in the show. i love her design and her quirks and how the show recognizes and uses them: one of my favorite moments in the show is that one part in escaping expulsion where amity asks the abomination butler who took her spot, and when the abomination turns around you can see the kitty face luz molded on him and that’s it. no need to say her name or anything, amity (and us, the viewers) immediately know it’s luz. gah! what a great moment.

i also love the way the show slowly reveals luz’s insecurities and hardships. she’s just so layered and you get to see every part. luz’s revelation in FTF is also something that resonates so intimately with my own problems and i get teary eyed just thinking about how well-setup that moment is and how it’s allowed such a big space in the episode. if you allow me to go on a little tangent, i find it fantastic how much they did with camila in such little time. it’s so great that we’re allowed to peak into her world and see how she never felt anything was wrong with luz, but instead of leaving it at that (she’s redeemed now you guys :D), they make camila recognize her mistake in such an honest and heartfelt way that directly impacts with luz’s narrative journey through all seasons in TOH. it treats both characters in such a humanly way… gah, it’s fantastic.

however, i'll say that my favorite dynamic in the show is probably luz and eda. i just love that since the very beginning they were both pushing at each other’s mindsets, and challenged each other in ways that allowed them to question their worldviews and change. there’s also the way eda ties into luz’s revelation that she just wants to be understood: i believe they both agreed to stay together because freaks stick together, making it so that eda and luz’s connection is so special because eda allows luz to feel understood. but yeah, i don’t wanna list examples because i feel like if i start i’ll never finish - source: trust me bro, yknow how it is. they’re fantastic characters already but they add so much to each other through their relationship.

EDA: honestly, there’s not really that much i can say about her. eda already ties in the fantasy trope deconstruction by being presented as this bad bitch channeling some manic pixie dream girl stuff - and just like luz, the show takes its time to deepen her character and make her a lot more complex. i don’t think it succeeds in every part (i go in more detail while talking about raine) but they get almost everything right and that’s enough for me. she’s at her best when she’s interacting with luz but also she has such great dynamics with every other character that pops up (although maybe i wasn’t the biggest fan of her interactions with lilith at the beginning, but it gets better and then it gets good).

HOOTY: i love him to death. what a little bastard. god won’t let him die.

KING: i am mixed on king, though considering everything i do have a positive stance on him. i don’t really like the trope of animal-type characters behaving like dogs [toothless from HTTYD the movie and the horse from disney’s rapunzel come to mind], and while king’s character gets more complex as the show progresses, that doesn’t really ever go away. the kid antics don’t help either. however, the S2 episode where king takes everyone to his “land” was an instant favorite - even midway through my first viewing, i knew i would love it. king’s tragic backstory def comes as a surprise and the show really capitalizes on that, and i love how plot relevant he becomes out of nowhere. i loved him in FTF and i’m very pleased with the direction his character took in S3.

AMITY: boy, does disney love their rich mean girls with overbearing parent(s). well i'm just not so invested, personally. i perked up for a bit in certain episodes, because it seemed like the show was bringing back its deconstruction of fantasy world tropes/characters when they equated hecate with amity. like, luz being motivated to befriend her because azura did so with the mean girl in her world? that's VERY interesting. and you don't know the squeal that i let out when luz starts crushing on amity, JUST because she pseudo-cosplays a powerful witch!!! and this sort of continues as luz builds an image of amity in her head that is not that accurate to her actual persona - and how that is presented as an obstacle for them getting together, culminating in the point where amity outright says that she’s not as cool as luz thinks. for a moment, i was enthralled waiting for the show to do anything with it. but sadly, after the initial hype, their relationship becomes a recycled jumble of miraculous ladybug-esque blushing interactions (and thank god it wasn't for THAT long), and then luz's secrets and amity's fear of not being good enough.

i guess my problem is that there's nothing that being together really adds to their characters, and their dynamic isn't that interesting otherwise. once amity rekindles her friendship with willow and enters luz's friend group, that's most of it resolved. the conflicts that arise in their relationship are way more personal and i believe they're dealt better with other characters (luz's guilt with eda, and amity's insecurities with alador and her sibs). i don't think their dynamic is bad per se (for example, i loved that they brought back amity's fear of rejection in the hooty episode, it's a really effective heart-wrenching moment), but maybe some conflict in their get-together through amity's mom could've been a good way of dealing with that problem in a way that doesn't feel that divorced from the main story (especially since amity’s mom has minimal screen time in the show) while also keeping their relationship plot-relevant. but honestly, i don't blame canon for not giving me a ship i can really enjoy. i'm extremely hard to please.

it also seems like the show kinda forgets about amity’s privileged status once she stops being a bully. in fact, it makes it seem like she’s actually just as powerless as the other kids in the main group, especially through odalia. i would’ve loved to see those aspects impact not only her presence in the group but her relationship with luz, too, because IMO it would never be anything other than interesting and it would add a lot to her character. however, i am led to think that this is less of an aspect that couldn’t fit in the story due time restraints and more of a thing that the writers genuinely think amity is in a good spot re: her character development, which is something i talk about more in the willow section. and speaking of willow...

WILLOW: i like good-natured characters who are good just for the sake of being good. therefore, i like willow, but i like her in the way that i think she’s a great addition to the cast and she has fun dynamics with both luz and gus. however, just on her own, willow is kinda meh.

i enjoyed the bullying (you know, as a narrative tool) for like four seconds when luz said [gasp] witch drama!!! and then never again. like, i don’t think whatever the show is trying to say with the “half-a-witch willow” is ever done good. and for how many jabs this show throws against harry potter, is astounding how similar the half-a-witch and muggle terms are. i would even say the half-a-witch thing is worse because i don’t even understand what “half-a-witch” is supposed to mean. the child of a witch and a demon? being less powerful than a “regular” witch? if the show ever explained it, it did it once and quick enough that it never stayed on my memory. moreover, if the half-a-witch thing is meant to point at willow being neurodivergent, then it makes the development of that plotpoint a lot clunkier.

the show then makes the argument that the “half-a-witch” claim is untrue because willow is actually a really powerful witch, and i am yet again reminded of hermione and how hp butchered the point of the “muggle” bullying. this is something that greatly infuriated me in the episode where willow is trying to prove to amity that she can take care of herself, because the problem isn’t that amity just needs to see how powerful willow is: the point is that anyone could be in willow’s place, and amity would be just as condescending. therefore, the solution isn’t to make amity realize that this particular person is strong enough to protect herself. it should be that amity shouldn’t be treating anyone like this in the first place! yet because willow = hermione, the argument is that willow shouldn’t be bullied/looked-down upon because she’s very strong, actually, just like hermione shouldn’t feel bad about being called a “muggle” because she’s smarter than some full-blood wizards (or whatever the term is). this misunderstanding of bullying is something that i hate because, as someone who was bullied in school, the knowledge that i was “superior” to those bullying me never made my situation better. however, that’s exactly how it happens for willow: boscha’s team bonds with her for being such a cool not-quidditch player (i’m sorry, i genuinely cannot remember the name of the sport lol), people in the school come around willow because suddenly they notice she’s Cool, and amity stops belittling her because willow is really cool, guys. you’ll notice i have a real grudge against the amity/willow plotline because it annoys me that the resolution is that amity will make an exception for one (1) person, when it should’ve been a moment of growth in the sense that she’s straying away from the way her mom raised her and actually seeing value in each person around her, instead of just considering willow part of the elite comparable to people like her (powerful witches).

[let me say, though, that i do like that willow’s self-confidence grows due to the influence of her friends, because that’s something they got right and it doesn’t feel right to not acknowledge it too.]

anyways, it’s a missed opportunity that not only would’ve been a great character moment for both girls, but also would’ve re-established amity and willow’s friendship in a genuine and pointed way. i’ve seen that a lot of people don’t think amity was truly redeemed for the years in which she bullied and belittled willow, but i do think that the moment where amity turns her back to boscha and joins willow’s non-quidditch team out of her own volition was a great narrative beat to determine that she was genuinely on her side, and to me, that was enough. however, it’s unrealistic to think that their dynamic would be smooth sailing from that point onwards, and i was pleased to see that the show recognized that and made it a plotline in a future episode. however, as i said, it was an instance where they correctly identified the problem, but the resolution was not good. okay, that’s enough of amity, going back to willow…

for how much criticism i have for the whole “half-a-witch” stuff, i think willow’s character gets so much more in FTF, and it’s one of the reasons why i think it’s such a great episode. i was so happy when they brought back the fact that willow’s emotional turmoil is tied very closely to her witch plant powers, since it served as a plot device to make luz and willow meet but was ignored for the rest of the show. i cannot even be too mad that it came so late because it was very well done IMO. i really love when media explores the stories of characters that are put into certain roles and aware of it: an immediate example is luz, actually, since she’s so aware that she’s the protagonist of the story (and again, it’s how the show pokes fun at or subverts some fantasy tropes), but skam españa season 2 does that with cris, making a point to give a full season to the character that is the “funny party girl” in her friend group (REALLY great season, please everyone go watch skam españa). in this case, willow is the mom friend that is crumbling under the pressure of being there for her friends while also dealing with her own trauma for her own situation. i also really like that is hunter who reaches out first, because it’s also a great character moment for him. this was a thing the show understood perfectly and developed beautifully in an episode filled with people coming to terms with their own mistakes, all while trying to be there for their loved ones (luz obviously, camila, willow and hunter as the main ones). it’s a shame that it comes so late in the show because that would’ve immensely helped in making me like willow’s character in the beginning and middle of the show. half-a-witch willow, more like half-a-character willow amirite [gets booed off the stage].

GUS: i think gus is a perfectly balanced character and i like him a lot. he’s just very endearing and charming, but also has some depth in him that make for very compelling scenes - the one where hunter and gus bond for the first time comes to mind. i also adore that the main trio (luz, willow and gus) are all witches who are constantly put in situations where they feel like they must prove themselves to everyone else, as well as that happening in completely different ways (luz dealing with a completely different set of magic logic since she can’t cast conventional wild magic; willow and her “half-a-witch” deal as well as her emotionally-triggered plant powers; and gus being a gifted kid living up to those standards at the same time that he deals with studying a type of magic that a lot of people find useless). it’s good for them to stick together because they can understand each other in a way the world may never be able to - and once again we’re back at luz’s FTF revelation being a main theme for a lot of the cast of characters in the show. tldr, gus Good - and even better when paired with other characters.

HUNTER: my first reaction to hunter's (real) introduction in the second season was "oh. he has a personality??" i wasn't yet aware if it was a negative or a positive thought, but it was certainly not what i was expecting. what i thought of it afterwards is that maybe this was the simpler way of setting hunter apart from all the other emperor's coven NPCs that had been introduced so far - in hindsight, that doesn’t even apply because none of the guards are shown as being a force to be reckoned with, and they’re the butt of the joke in multiple occasions. then, i realized that my puzzled reaction was because i was expecting the golden guard to be more like the winter soldier. honestly, i still can't decide if making him act like that in the beginning was the best idea. during the episode of his first official appearance (s2e2) he didn't feel like a threat at all. he just seemed a little incompetent and like he was just amused by the characters and didn't have real intentions to hurt them. i think stuff like darius' introduction works much better in that regard - we get to see how powerful and ruthless he can be, while also showing a lot of personality and being humorous. i'm just not sure what the goal was at the beginning, or that it was done all that well.

of course, because it all leads up to hunter joining the main group, it makes sense that the guy has to have a likable personality. but i have this feeling that the show is trying too hard to get the point across about hunter just being a kid, and so we get him being incompetent instead. IMO, the VA's performance and hunter's physical appearance work just fine (luz even says hunter looks like he could be a student at hexside, which i want to believe is a callback to that one scene in spiderman 2). like, i don't know. i like hunter as a character and he adds a lot to the cast, but i wish some things had been done a little better with him.

however, there are a lot of ways in which i think hunter is a fantastic character in a way that fits really well with the whole deconstruction stuff i talked about earlier. i adore that final frame in the hunting palismen episode, where hunter is looking out this tiny window in a huge tower, confined in a tiny space while his animal sidekick rests in his hands… like holy shit, hunter is literally paralleled to rapunzel, a damsel in distress if you will. i genuinely love those moments and i eat them up every single time lol. there’s other stuff like hunter flinching when belos leans in to flick his hair out of his face: it’s such an effective storytelling tool in a short gesture. like, their relationship is absolutely clear from that gesture alone: how dismissive belos is of hunter’s feelings and worries, how he won’t think twice about humiliating him like that, and how hunter genuinely fears belos - as well as hints that he might have been physically abused by his uncle at some point. in that same line of thought, i like how that is followed through in FTF (i have a real boner for this episode i know) because of course hunter doesn’t know how to deal with that sort of grief. everything that happened in thanks to them is so incredibly fucked up for him and he’s just stuck in the anger stage, unable to move forward because he doesn’t know how. he devolves into such a practical view of the issue (this is all belos’ fault → we must find him and kill him) and it makes so much sense once you think about all the times his feelings were dismissed by his only parental figure (it even happened during thanks to them when hunter keeps writing off his suspicions as “paranoia” and apologizes for it to luz). and like, ugh, the way it comes back around when he helps willow out of her own spiral of grief, in the same way he projected his feelings on both amity and gus in S2. i just love that he’s so determined to be there for other people and how those are the first instances in which he allows himself to open up to others: by helping his friends when he sees them struggling. it’s such an effective way to communicate how loving and compassionate hunter truly is. like, i love how genuinely pained he sounds when he tells willow to never call herself “half-a-witch” again, unable to even repeat the term to her face. he’s such a good boy. i am holding him gently in my hands.

speaking of willow... i’ll guess you’ll notice that in the willow section i didn’t mention at all the romantic nudges towards hunter, and it’s because of two reasons. 1) i will talk about that Here and 2) hunter does nothing for willow as a romantic partner.

so yeah, as you could tell, not the biggest fan of their romance. i am partial to hunter crushing on willow because i think it does something for hunter: it allows him to have teenager experiences that he’s missing out on as the golden guard, and it further humanizes him compared to belos. to me, the problem is that the moment hunter crushes on willow, their get-together in canon is inevitable because of fucking course lol. furthermore, willow is easily the person who hangs out with hunter the least, and while he gets to have very defined dynamics with luz, gus and even amity in that one episode, i’m pretty sure he doesn’t interact with willow in any meaningful way besides getting paired with her on fight scenes. in fact, the only point in which they have a meaningful connection is in FTF, literally the second to last episode of the show. and it baffles me that the moment is decidedly non-romantic/found-family esque with gus being included in the resolution (not even as a third wheel: he's integral to it), only for the show to be like “mwahaha! get baited idiot” and have willow blush at hunter for no absolutely fucking reason (and hunter’s reaction is also decidedly not romantic either: he breaks down crying at willow’s words, as a parallel to the aforementioned platonic resolution from earlier). see, for all the problems i have with lumity and raeda, they have chemistry and reasons to be into each other, but i cannot say any of that for huntlow.

this gets worse when i think about the roles of everyone in the main group, and how hunter and gus’ brotherly moments don’t feel forced despite gus being the only one who can fill the role of “young sibling” in the main group, whereas it’s so obvious that hunter is crushing on willow because everyone else is either taken or not age appropriate. and you know, that doesn’t have to be a problem, that’s my point. again, it baffles me that hunter and willow meet halfway through season 2b, yet after that episode they barely exchange lines (i am struggling to remember if they even talk to each other), and the only indication of the romantic endgame is that hunter keeps blushing at her while willow is extremely oblivious and seems to do things out of her own goals of being a good witch and person, and not because she wants to connect with hunter. thanks to them also makes a point of having drawn out moments building on hunter’s relationships with luz and gus, and like… why leave willow out of them when being together is a point in the near future? like, this relationship definitely feels the most carelessly put-together, as there is NO narrative justification at all of why willow would suddenly fall for hunter - again, from a character resolution focused on willow learning to be vulnerable in front of her friends.

to me, the easiest fix to all of this is to have hunter crush on luz instead. hold on, let me cook. that way, we still have the point of hunter experiencing teenager stuff like crushing on people, yet we make sure that it doesn’t happen because luz is already taken and so instead hunter will eventually get over his crush while still caring for luz as a friend, and we avoid a pointless love triangle too. that can also tie with the main plot as luz is a direct parallel to evelyn (as hunter’s first real connection to wild magic, like evelyn was for caleb), yet the show can subvert that trope expectation of hunter and luz becoming lovers by recognizing that they’re both teenagers and hunter gets to have a life outside a romantic connection, going back to TOH being a deconstruction of fantasy tropes, yadda yadda.

also! i was surprised to see so many people disliking the fact that flapjack dies. i’ll say i digress. flapjack’s life being in danger works as a way to up the stakes in the fight, and i also consider it a poignant nod to flapjack being a symbol of evelyn and caleb’s romance and his “betrayal” to phillip - that, with the added bonus that belos feasts on palismen, makes flapjack’s death almost inevitable. i don’t know how i feel about hunter acquiring flapjack’s powers, though. on one hand, i like that evelyn and caleb’s love is surviving through belos’ failed plan to take revenge on their actions inheriting the palisman’s power: the fact that it manifests physically is a huge fuck you to belos and important to the narrative. on the other hand, i liked that hunter joined the league of “powerless” witches along with eda, lilith and luz - and i thought that was the direction they were going with when hunter uses luz’s glyphs in the belos’ brain episode. the whole glyph stuff mixes well with the story of caleb and evelyn, too, because hunter gets access to a kind of magic that he can make use of (unlike regular wild magic), and i also like the fact that he’d be using the same kind of magic his uncle found about first and used for his evil deeds, this time in the hands of his grimwalker nephew who will use it for belos’ downfall. but i guess hunter can get back his super-speed/teleportation stuff since it’s already part of his fighting style, sigh.

BELOS: uhhh good antagonist. great character. love whoever his VA is. very compelling. great foil to both luz and hunter. “twist villain” done right. not a lot to say tbh tho.

LILITH: first of all, love her design - and love how she stops dyeing her hair during FTF and we can finally see her natural hair color: it's a more effective way to show how far she's grown while also not hammering that fact to the viewer over and over again (cough cough amity). however, she suffers from the same problems most of the coven antagonists do, which is that she's hardly presented as a fearful contender and they're the butt of many jokes. it's not as bad as hunter but it's not as great as darius: she's clearly a force to be reckoned with, but whereas darius becoming a key player in eda's team is something i genuinely didn't see coming, the fact that eda and lilith have this bickering dynamic since the very start made it hard for me to envision her being a real threat. i liked her inclusion in the s1 dynamic, and her sharing eda's curse it's an effective narrative beat to apologize for her misdeeds and genuinely stick to eda's side. likewise, i like that her decision actually has consequences: she can't use magic again, she experiences a lot of side effects, etc. i also really appreciate that she's the only character who genuinely likes hooty because same. her dynamic with hooty is very lovely and became one of my favorites in the show, to my own surprise.

RAINE: personality wise raine reminded me a lot of willow, and i almost wanna say that their character was way more well-executed than willow’s. i’ve always been a sucker for characters who are naturally good and kind to others, without being twist-villains, and raine is no exception, but they’re also a key player in the plot near the end of S2 in a way willow really isn’t, besides just being luz’s friend.

honestly my biggest disappointment with raine is their relationship with eda. it has all the right ingredients: people who loved each other sincerely back in a simpler time, now finding each other again while they’re on opposite sides of the narrative conflict. as well as them being torn apart by their character flaws (in this case, the responsibility falls mostly on eda but still works). but man, the fact that they just meet again and they immediately fall back in this easy-going dynamic… what’s the point of all that backstory, then? it’s weird that raine seems to hold no grudges against eda for what she did all those years ago. it makes me wonder why they haven't interacted with each other at any other point, since they don’t really hold any animosity towards the other. i would’ve LOVED if they capitalized on their backstory to make them resentful to each other. off the top of my head: have eda resent raine for joining the coven and climbing to the top, maybe have her believe that they’re doing it just to spite her. or have raine be mad at eda for being so irresponsible and nonchalant about it, and show them being conflicted about their love for her and their duties while they work for the emperor. i also don’t like how the show just doesn't allow any kind of conflict to linger between them. like, there’s this part where raine finds out eda has a family, giving space to make them go through some feelings of betrayal and jealousy, or maybe mourn the life they could’ve had together, but it’s such a non-moment and nothing comes of it. i thought i would love their dynamic, but it’s pretty half-baked. still i like raine as a character. after hunter’s introduction not fulfilling my winter soldier expectations, i didn’t know if to give the brainwashed plotline to raine would work. i was pleasantly surprised when raine turns out to be faking their submissiveness, as it shows how smart and resourceful they are, and i like how that capitalizes off their non-threatening appearance.

i don't want to sway the votes so i won't do any propaganda for them after the poll starts BUT it's Wu Zetian/Li Shimin/Gao Yizhi from Iron Widow i just love the way their relationship develops so much and as someone whos unable to actually pick up a book and focus on it, the fact that i read iron widow in 4 days is amazing im still proud of that as silly as it is

yknow what ill use this as an opportunity to ramble about them askdgakdjk spoilers ahead but ill try to keep the major stuff out

for context the book has pacific rim style mechas, but instead of being drift compatible or whatever its usually a male pilot and his concubine whose life force he usually drains in order to pilot the thing, but theres a LOT of propaganda that makes girls want to be concubines, or families might wanna send their daughters for the money. im simplifying it a LOT especially cause theres more info u only learn later on as zetian herself finds out but anyway

at the start of the book zetian and yizhi are besties who obviously have feelings for each other. zetian is poor while hes very rich so their friendship is kind of a secret and they meet in the woods which i think is cute, point is its p clear zetian tries to mantain a distance, not allowing herself to admit her feelings. for reasons i wont say zetian decided to become a concubine to one of the like bigger more badass guys even if she doesnt believe the propaganda and knows she might die, she only tells yizhi this the day before

he shows up at her house the next day begging her family to let him marry her?????? which is sweet because he wants to protect her but that isnt gonna work bestie sorry she's a woman w a mission

so anyway she goes to the concubine thing and shes surprisingly powerful "for a girl" which yeah thats a super common trope but shes so much more than just the strong protagonist. shes extremely powerful in every sense of the word imo and i love her so much and i wish the world hadnt been so cruel that she had to become so strong. but anyway the guy she wants to pilot w picks her. MAJOR SPOILER they have to pilot the mecha on day 1 cause they're under attack and uhhh she kills him lol lmao she drains her life force instead which supposedly is UNHEARD OF

so they cant just kill her off cause that'd look bad instead they send her to be the concubine of the strongest guy (all of his concubines die after 1 fight) and thats Li Shimin my beloved my little meow meow hes looked down on and kinda treated like an animal cause hes a criminal and the only reason he gets to be a pilot is his powerful qi. anyway shes forced to live w him and turns out hes just a lil guy. like hes very big and scary looking but hes just a tired man pls he needs a break. she fucking survived piloting w him which nobody expected. so now theres a lotta stuff going on i wont get into but some ppl arent happy w this duo cause they're both very powerful and not exactly happy to serve. and Shimin has a drink problem.

IN ENTERS GAO YIZHI hes back babey!!! and he decides to help shimin w his alcoholism. its funny cause when they first meet his crush on li shimin is so fucking obvious zetian is like "huh i always suspected he liked guys too" but li shimin is just pissed cause this is the guy who wants to make him stop drinking

theres like 1 moment of jealousy that i can remember when li shimin realizes zetian and yizhi have a thing going on but its settled very quickly and they all kiss.

back to the drift compatible thing: at one point in the final battle zetian and shimin need more power and yizhi literally lends them his qi (its extremely rare for a third person to help) and its beautiful and they are so in love and i cant wait for the sequel

idk if any of that is coherent i kinda stopped thinking and just typed sorry for rambling on ur ask im just very passionate about them i love them so much i love iron widow so much i love xiran jay zhao so much (the writer) (you might know them from the live action mulan analysis video that went viral back when that movie came out) (check out their yt channel)

This week, being the week following our anniversary, we took ourselves back to our roots; our members. Our nomination call this week was for fics by current members of the book club that we have not read from in the year 2022.

With that in mind, we picked a Regency AU that slots right into the bodice-ripper loving section of many of our brains. This fic has some ghosts, some class strife and an extremely romantic confession that we all love, most ardently.

We hope you’ll join us out on the lawn with your hats and gloves, as is customary, to sip on some tea and take a stroll through the gardens of Walcot Hall with us as we read A Gentleman of Spirit by breathtaken this week.

Summary:

Newly impoverished and grieving the loss of his father, Mr Shane Madej is only attending Lady Bergara’s ball at Walcot Hall so that he can write an anonymous report on it for one of the gossip columns. He isn’t expecting to find the Baronet of Walcot’s eldest son – as rich and handsome as he is eccentric – attempting to contact a spirit behind the coach house; he certainly isn’t expecting to fall in love.

Book Club Thoughts:

i'm a big fan of how the language of the narration matches the genre and setting and feels really like i'm reading an austen novel

it was so well written and i loved how easily they still fell into their like usual dynamic and banter but within the period

I loved all the period details of this. It just felt well researched and like, you know… researched. Like this felt bigger than a fic

I was sitting in a space of speculation about why this hits different and I think it's because it speaks to most of the saucy steamy regency romance novels I read as a teen which were probably formative for me to the point where the word "prick" had me spluttering with embarrassment lol

I really like the class stuff and while they're not that different class-wise irl, I think they are just enough to make this version really believable and sing

I also need to say that [author] really sells the world of this whole fic, the class system and how all the families know one another

shane loses his money and standing and quickly slips into 'eat the rich' mode, which feels true to life in a way

i like the contrast between what shane thinks he sees when he's first observing ryan at the dance, and then the real ryan that starts emerging as they get to know each other

i'm such a sucker for plonking the ghost stuff down in the middle of an apparently-incongruous setting

i love the like... boundary between what's happening and what Should be happening as is Proper, yknow? i think a lot of potential fics in this kind of world would have the Gay Stuff as the tension etc but i liked the choice to have it Not be that in this.

It has the perfect balance of regency au and also like, modern problems? Like usually you read about people in high class, and here Shane's struggles of having to do things for a living that are not so gentelmanely hits very well

I loved the inclusion of Shane's love of music in this a lot

I like how romantic it is, especially that comparison to the fire in the fireplace, and how they go from calling each other barely by the christian names to calling each other "my love"

An Unwelcomed Surprise

You don't even know where you are, and what got you in this sticky situation.

All you know is that your sweet baby, a Manticore, that you proudly named 'Snugglebug' and you are running towards one of the spare rooms in the House Of Lamentation.

Okay, running is the wrong word, because Snugglebug is bolting at an inhumane speed, while you are clinging to its back for dear life. You don't even know what got you into this situation. To be fair, it was the fault of some hot demons for summoning kidnapping you to the Devildom, without prior notice.

Diavolo, no, ' Lord' Diavolo, because you fear Lucifer might appear and bonk you on the head any moment, had proudly welcomed you with that boyish laugh of his to the Devildom. For a moment, you were caught up in the sheer beauty of the place and the men, because you were kidnapped by some hot people who seemed to be into some heavy roleplay, and then found out they were demons.

And you had to attend RAD and write a paper at the end of the term.

Well, at least, your kidnappers were breathtaking to look at. Might as well die with a good scenery.

Snugglebug was hidden in your pocket, because then he was a baby, a sweet little baby with teeth, who ate meat fiercely and was a snugglebug. Hiding him wasn't a problem at all, it became a problem when he started to grow. And he grew so quickly.

Earlier, he fitted in your pocket, but now he was bigger than you, but still a sweet baby. Nice.

Quickly, you jumped off and opened the door, leading Snugglebug into the room, and with a pat on the huge head of his, told him to be a good boy until you came back.

As you closed the door, guess who you saw?

And guess what that particular person must be thinking when they started hearing whimpering from behind the door ? Snugglebug's adorable habit was to whimper whenever you left, to beg with those eyes of his for you to stay, and which worked like a charm for quite some time

But now, you had to conceal your baby, otherwise you would be in deep shit.

No matter how much you tried to stop Lucifer from opening that door, it didn't work, because he dodged all your attacks and now opened the door.

" What in sweet suffering's sake, MC?!"

Snugglebug was growling dangerously as it lowered its body, preparing to attack Lucifer, who looked on with a bored expression.

Damn, he has balls of steel.

Before your baby could charge at Lucifer, you stepped in between, effectively shielding Lucifer from Snugglebug.

No one harms your baby.

He looks shocked for a moment, and eyes Snugglebug, while glaring at him, and in a smooth movement, shoves you behind him. A sweet gesture, if it wasn't for him preparing to attack your baby.

" Luci- wait! He won't do anything! " You scream these words as you stepped in front of him again, and run towards your baby, feverishly patting his back.

Lucifer raises a perfect eyebrow, which makes you envious, because you could never get yours to look so intimidating and sexy.

He looks on, with a weird fascination as you pat Snugglebug's huge back, which makes him stop his growling.

" You do realize that creature could kill you with a mere swipe of his paws?"

How dare he?! Someone who slept in your pocket and whined when you left, attempt to kill you?

How ridiculous.

" Snugglebug would never." You spit these words as you keep patting his back, to let Lucifer see that this adorable baby would never do anything like that. But all he does is look on with a frown, perhaps at that name. Come on, it's a cute name! Although Cerebrus's name may be formidable, Snugglebug is adorable.

" Lord Diavolo will be informed about this." Is all he answers in return as he walks away, his coat magistically swinging behind him like a Disney Princess.

You return to patting Snugglebug's head, because fuck Lucifer.

" And if you die, it won't be on our watch."

Fuck Lucifer.

You un-fucked Lucifer after you saw him petting Snugglebug's belly later though....

Mammon has a very bad habit of not knocking before entering, and kicking open the door with his signature words- " Hey,hey,hey, it's the Great Mammon!"

But now, he was in front of you, and giving you a questionable stare, perhaps, as to why you looked so scared. It was hard to tell though, because his glasses hid his eyes.

" Hey Mammon, wanna go with me to Majolish, we can get you some real nice outfits~"

As convincly as you could, you lied, and hoped he would fall for it. If he does, Snugglebug is safe but your wallet suffers. If not, Snugglebug is not safe and your wallet does not suffer.

Mammon looks on, perplexed. " Ya never asked me to accompany you to Majolish before, and now ya want to spend money on me ?"

Dammit Mammon.

" What's that in the room? It sounds like whimpering."

Fuck.

Quickly, you place yourself in front of the door, ready to become a wall and prevent Mammon from discovering your Snugglebug. Mammon merely looks on with attitude from his glasses, and you want to punch him.

Did anyone tell you Mammon was extremely good at tickling people ?

Well, now you know. Reduced to a mere ball of laughter, cackling like a crow, all you could do was watch as he opened the door and went inside. A shriek could be heard, and Mammon stepped outside again, wide-eyed with his glasses in his hands.

" A manticore, a real, breathing manticore, how in the seven realms MC-"

You quickly place a finger on his soft lips.

" Don't tell Lucifer." The mere act of placing your fingers on his lips has him blushing, and boy, Mammon does look cute.

" ...Only for y-ya, but not like I l-like you or anything!"

Mammon will keep a secret. Hopefully. Because you took him out to Majolish.

Okay, Mammon totally did not keep your secret, because Lucifer could be heard shouting a week later. Lucifer never shouts this loud.

Leviathan looks at you with a puzzled expression, his face furrowed in confusion.

" What's in there?" He asks a simple question, one that has you fumbling to do anything to make him leave, so that you can go back to your room in peace and quiet. What to reply, what to say, oh shit he's looking at me-

" Drugs."

A very nice save, MC.

" Drugs don't whimper." Levi now looks unamused, and walks forward to open the door. Hurriedly, you run towards him and beg. Dignity can go to hell (literally).

" Please, please, don't open the door, please."

Levi doesn't reply, but opens the door as you follow behind quicky. No, no, no, he's got Snugglebug, oh no-

" Woooaaaahhh!!!."

" Snugglebug is the name." As you lean across the doorframe, you answer while gazing fondly at the two.

" Snugglebug? Ew. Such a normie name! He'd be better named Henry!"

You could listen to Levi rant about your baby all day, but you don't have time as anyone can come here any moment. With a promise of spending weekend nights watching anime with him, you managed to keep your secret a mutual secret, but not for long.

Because Levi posted pics of your baby online, of course.

Well, who knew a serpent and a Manticore went so well together ?

Satan gazes at you amusedly as you stutter, trying to make up an excuse to not let him in the room.

" What's in there?" And you forget you even have a tongue, because all you can do now is stare stupidly at him.

" Nothing, it's nothing! Just one of the little D's! I gave him a cookie as he was crying, poor baby was stressed out-"

" Little D's don't cry like that."

Oh shit. Not good. Satan knows you are up to something, because the book in his hand, you are sure he keeps a book in his hands always, cradling it like a baby, is put down on the table near the door, and now his full focus is on you.

"It's whimpering. Did you bring a stray animal in there? I won't tell Lucifer, promise."

Satan might not be so bad as he looks to be. Because that look is sincere and genuine, and you're tempted to tell him about Snugglebug, but there's no guarantee he won't use it as blackmail.

" Nothing is there." With the guts and air of an experienced liar, you answer, in hopes that he'll pick up his goddamned book and leave.

He still stands there. " Promise, won't use it as blackmail too."

Fuck, you can't deny him now, because he's looking at you with those enchanting eyes and also because it seems like he can read your mind, and frankly, if he can, he will need bleach to erase what he sees in there.

Slowly, you open the door, and Satan steps in, and you follow, softly closing it again. He gapes while looking at Snugglebug, who is as confused as Satan.

" How on Earth did you manage to find a manticore ? And also, how did you not get eaten ?"

Satan gazes at your baby, who is staring at him back. Then, slowly, he takes something out of his pocket, and approaches Snugglebug.

Okay, Satan has a death wish.

Wait, is Snugglebug pawing at that cat toy Satan produced from his pocket ...?

" Manticore is a part lion, and lions belong to the Felidae family, which is split into three-"

He continues rambling while playing with Snugglebug, and you don't know whom to hug first, because they both look so cute.

Well, at least, he will keep your secret.

" What are you hiding in there, my dear MC?" Asmo is grinning while questioning as to what secrets are you hiding in that spare room. And you're not going to let him know.

" It's nothing, I swear !" The whimpering grows louder and Asmo raises an eyebrow at you, the one which says something-is-fishy.

" Orgy."

Well done, MC.

" In all the years I have lived, hon, I have never seen a demon or a human whimper like that, unless you're into other types of species."

Shit. Asmo has caught on. Evacuate mission, evacuate mission, evacuate!!!

" Care to tell me now, what's going on? " Asmo huffs as he taps a foot against the floor. To be fair, it was him who came here, and he, who was staying here, in front of this door.

" Fine. But don't tell anyone." You have no other choice then to comply, because if Lucifer finds out you are dead.

Slowly opening the door, you lead Asmo inside. He looks around, tentatively, until his gaze falls on Snugglebug.

" Is that a manticore?" He asks, while looking at you incredulously as Snugglebug looks on, confused. You nod. Isn't he going to ask where you got your baby from?

" It's so pretty, what's the name?"

" Snugglebug." Asmo grimaces at that as he tries to get a better look at your baby. " Chester sounds much, much better." He shakes his head again, as he touches Snugglebug's fur, and giggles in delight when he finds that the fur is soft.

Well, at least they get along. But Asmo carries a lint roller with him now, stating that the fur sticks to his clothes...oh well...

" What's that sound ?"

Beelzebub asks as you rub your nose in pain. This was not a good way to touch those demon tiddies, because you wanted to feel them with your hands.

" N-nothing. It's nothing." Beelzebub doesn't seem to believe your reply, because now he is aiming for the door handle. Oh no.

" Please, I'll give you thirty chimera burgers!" Food is the way to bribe Beel, you have learnt. Want to hang Mammon on the ceiling? Beel and food. Want to move your furniture? Beel and food. Want to hide your baby from nosy demons? Beel and food.

Beel seems almost convinced and ready to take your offer, but he stops in his tracks.

There it goes. Your chance at freedom. You're already preparing to be strung up by the ceiling, with Mammon to give you company, who knows what dumb shit happened today-

" Is that... A manticore?" How in holy hell did Beel know ? Does he read minds or has a telepathic connection? Or...he has a very sensitive nose...

" Yes."

" How did you even get a creature like that in here? What if Lucifer finds out ? He will punish you!" Beel, ever the sweetheart. You make a mental note to treat him to dessert

" He won't, unless you don't tell. I offer you sixty chimera burgers." The vouchers you won at a lottery will come pretty handy now, Mammon had tailed you for six hours to get a voucher, but it was worth it.

Beel looks conflicted for a moment, but deciding that food is precious, agrees. You're ready to squeak in delight and hug this demon right now.

" Can I see it.. the manticore?"

" Snugglebug." You correct him, and Beel smiles a toothy grin. Why does he have to be so cute!

You open the door, and Beel steps inside, as Snugglebug perks up. Beelzebub surveys your baby for a moment, before walking up and bravely stroking its back. Snugglebug purrs in his hands. Snugglebug never purred before. Never.

What kind of magic does Beel exactly have ?

Well, at least, they two are bonding.

" Sounds like a dying dog.."

Belphegor cheekily mutters as he looks at you, half-asleep, with his cow pillow tucked under an arm. You look at him in disbelief, and shake your head.

" It's nothing. Just a spell gone awry." Good choice of words, MC. Be firm and assertive, pretend everything is fine when it's not, and everything will appear fine, even when it's not fine.

" Spells don't make things whine. What's in there?" Belphegor tries to look behind you, reach the handle and open the door, see what exactly you are hiding. But you aren't going to let him. Not today.

" Tell me, or I will tell Lucifer." There is it, that shit-eating grin again on his face, with a cheeky look in his eyes.

Lucifer finding out is a real possibility, and you do NOT want to risk that.

" Fine." You spat out the words, " It's snugglebug, my manticore."

" Manticore?....how did you manage to get a manticore in the first place? And why didn't you tell any of us?" Belphegor is throwing questions at you faster than you can answer, and you are in no mood to. Instead, you choose to open the door and lead him inside, so he can shut his mouth.

Which he does.

" That's...that's a big manticore..."

" Snugglebug!"

Belphegor looks on in disbelief as he watches your baby with a fascination. And Snugglebug gapes at him in return too.

Well, for now, at least Belphegor is keeping his mouth shut. If he tells Lucifer about your baby, you're going to tell Lucifer about the unauthorized visit to the human world by him. And you must have said that out loud because the cow in question is glaring at you. Oh well.

At least they two are good snuggle buddies.

"Judging by the whimpering, your manticore misses you."

Oh shit. Lord Diavolo of all people knows this secret that you so carefully tried to keep hidden. How does he know? Another power of his? And what is he doing in the House Of Lamentation at this hour-

" MC?"

" Ah, yes. You knew ?" Good job, managed to keep your composure and not look like a jumbled mess.

He laughs. A booming, boyish laugh that echoes through the hallway.

" Already knew the moment you came to the Devildom. That little cub was begging for me to touch it, oh, how I had to restrain myself." Diavolo talks foundly as he reminisces, his golden eyes gazing in the distance.

So Lord Diavolo and knew and didn't blow your cover...you owe him one...

He looks kind of cute while rambling how your baby is one of a kind and how he would like to meet Snugglebug. Wait...meet?

Diavolo nods. So you said that out loud.

" Uhmm...well..he's behind this door." You nervously stutter as you answer, because damn his gaze his intense and also because you're...taken aback.

Your neck is beginning to hurt from having to look up while talking to him.

Before you can stop him, Diavolo has already opened the door and is now cooing at your baby, who is confused as to why Diavolo is cooing and coodling him.

" What's his name ?"

" Snugglebug." And Diavolo smiles, and his smile is bright, ironically, like the Sun. He resumes cuddling your baby, all the while repeating his name in a tiny, squeaky voice.

You wish you could take a photo of them two right now, because they look sooo adorable.

" Can I keep him?"

" No!"

SCOUT

- he likes kids a lot! he's pretty good at matching their high energy and is quite immature and childish too, so it isn't difficult for him to connect with children. despite him being the youngest brother, he would actually make for a good big bro figure! :D ...well, sorta? sure, he's very fun, but my god he is IRRESPONSIBLE. please don't ever leave scout with kids alone. he's going to do something stupid to impress them or worse he will encourage THEM to do something stupid. there always has to be another person to supervise, because scout is pretty much just a bigger child that you have to look after along the smaller kids

SOLDIER

- idk this man probably doesn't even know what children are.... jk jk, of course he does, but he has no idea how to take care of them, even though that is not what he thinks. soldier thinks of himself as an excellent babysitter- which he is NOT. he's kind of like a fun crazy uncle who's super supportive and nice (in his own way). due to him being loud and eccentric, kids either love him or are scared of him, but usually it's the first option. soldier can be very fun to be with! he thinks of many ways to entertain the kiddos, but sometimes he's, well, too EXTREME. never leave him alone with kids or he's gonna teach them how to rocket jump and snap people's necks

PYRO

- ohh they're a sweetheart. pyro absolutely loves kids and immediately connects with them!! whether or not the kids like THEM however... that depends. sometimes kids start crying the moment they see pyro, but that's surprisingly rare! most kids love them :] i mean, pyro is like a perfect combination of childlike enough to vibe with the kids but also responsible enough to, yknow, actually look after them! pyro is quite good at cheering them up, too... a kid scrapped their knee? well, this firebug is already patching them up with cute bandaids and acting all silly and funny to make them laugh. also, pyro is 100% down for cute little tea parties

HEAVY

- very responsible, very good. heavy knows how to take care of kids, it's just that he's kinda awkward at it? not that he dislikes kids, but spending time with them isn't his cup of tea... like yeah, he knows what to do, but if you tell him to look after some child, he won't be very enthusiastic about it. that doesn't count for the kids though, cause children literally love him!!! heavy gives off this strong and caring aura that just makes you trust him, yknow? :D he's very good at comforting upset children and he doesn't even know HOW he's doing it. also, how you seen this man? he's literally built like a mountain, every child that he encounters wants nothing else but to climb him

DEMOMAN

- WONDERFUL with kids!! he's kinda like soldier, the typical fun crazy uncle, expect demo is actually responsible!! he's got a bunch of fun stories that he can share and knows lots of silly jokes. not only is he fun but he's very good at giving advice and overall being very supportive and encouraging. also, demo gets attached to kids quickly, like yeah MAYBE he knew this random kid for JUST 5 minutes but who cares? that's literally his little buddy! you got a problem?? also this one is so obvious but demo wears an eye patch!! do you even realize how many kids mistook him for a pirate? needless to say, children love him because he's cool AND looks cool

ENGINEER

- oh c'mon, this man gives off massive dad vibes. children immediately feel safe and happy around him and no one knows why?? like, what kind of magic is this...?? whenever engie interacts with children he just seems to naturally know what to do, even though i doubt he's had that much experience when it comes to taking care of kids. talent i guess. this man is smart asf so he knows hundreds of cool facts that he can entertain children with. he acts goofy and dumb around kids and is NOT embarrassed by it. as long as a kid is happy, he's happy. also, this man is SO supportive!!! there's a sad child? well they better be ready to not be sad anymore cause engie is preparing a heartfelt speech full of encouraging words to hype them up. hearing THE engineer tell you that he's proud of you is one of the best things ever fr

MEDIC

- actually...i don't recommend even letting him near kids. sure, he's responsible, he doesn't mind spending time with children AND he finds their childlike curiosity very endearing! it's just that he's, well, too....unhinged? most kids run away from him crying lol. which is obvious considering that he literally approaches them like "HELLO LITTLE ONES! who here wants to know how to dissect a human body?! :D" while he's smiling and giggling and shit. HORRIBLE babysitter, 0/10 experience. doesn't this man know that he should NOT speak of horrors beyond our comprehension with a 10 year old? smh!!!

SPY

- i'm sorry but spy doesn't like kids (or at least he convinces himself to dislike kids). he's pretty shitty when it comes to taking care of them. like, he KNOWS how to treat children and how to take care of them, he's just kind of a bitch. which is pretty funny considering that most of the time kids like him because they think he looks so cool... i mean, he's literally a spy!! his dislike towards children doesn't come from genuine hate, but rather regret, since it reminds him that he was an absent father for most of scout's life and missed so much. so yeah, he would rather not interact with kids in any way, but when there's, let's say, a lost child crying with no one else around, he will actually do a great job to comfort the little one and help them. he isn't heartless

SNIPER

- for someone so standoffish, sniper surprisingly has big amount of Dad Potential. he's VERY awkward when it comes to kids because of lack of experience, but other than that he's responsible and can be a decent caregiver. he knows all kinds of crazy stories that he would love to share, (by crazy i mean literally mindblowing) so it's not THAT difficult for him to entertain a kid. he can't exactly keep up with their energy cause he's tired 24/7, but he isn't annoyed by that either. in fact he finds it quite refreshing. to me he's kinda like the cool mysterious uncle who appears out of nowhere, tells you some crazy story and offers you the best life advice you've ever received and then disappears again for 6 months without elaborating. how fun. kids love him

➯ A/N: Thank you for the request! I hope you enjoy. I added a few characters, hope you don’t mind:)

➯ When you guys get into a fight

➯ Characters: Langa Hasegawa, Reki Kyan, Kaoru Sakurashiki, Kojiro Nanjou, Hiromi Higa and Miya Chinen x gn reader

➯ Warnings: angst if you squint, fluff

Langa:

Ok the majority of your fights are generally because of a miscommunication. If things aren’t spelled out for the poor boy, he’ll be completely oblivious to what’s bothering you

When you finally snap, he always seems shocked, asking why you hadn’t said anything sooner, even if you’d been trying to hint at it all week

Not really one to shout, but if things get heated enough he might snap. He always feels awful afterwards though. No matter what, he really believes no one should be screamed at because of something as silly as a disagreement

Rarely storms out, he’s always going to try and stay until the end to try and get something, anything out of you that he can use to try and understand your point of view

Understands space. He knows when you dont feel like talking to him, and he will give you that time to collect your thoughts. When you’re ready to speak again, he’s all ears

Gets overwhelmed really easy. It doesnt really show in what he says, but when you raise your voice his brain goes to putty and he can feel his breath get narrow. He’s not scared, he just doesn’t want to be the reason you’re feeling like this.

Never lets you go to bed angry. He’ll give you your space, but if you’re still quiet by bedtime he’s making sure you’ve eaten and you’re not still really upset by whatever played out that day

Overthinks a lot. How long did he not realise you were upset? What if its actually a much bigger deal than you’re letting on? What if you leave? Of course, he knows a lot of it is completely irrational, but it still lingers in the back of his mind, so you can imagine how relieved he is when the fight is over and you’re back in his arms

Asks people for advice a lot. Reki and Cherry are usual helpers, giving Langa their opinions on the matter without going into too much detail. The rest is up to him.

Gives the best hugs and comfort after a fight. He understands couples can fight, and never really takes the aggression let out by the pair of you too seriously. Rubbing the back of your head and holding you close to his chest, he’ll reassure you that he’s not going anywhere, that he’s not going to leave “just because of a silly fight” while you fight back tears on his shoulder.

Reki

Unlike Langa, Reki is a very open person in terms of his feelings, so your fights are rarely because of closed away emotions. However, many are caused by you feeling he is spending too much time in his workshop, overworking himself and not spending as much time with you as he should.

As for Reki, he gets mad when he feels you’re being closed off from him, not telling him things and hiding your true emotions. It’s not that he doesnt trust you, he just doesnt want you shouldering anything by yourself, and tries to make things easier for you by halving the problem.

A very emotional person, and this really shows when the two of you argue. There’s a lot of tears, a lot of raised voices, yknow those exhausted laughs when you’re tired of arguing with someone? Those. He pulls at his hair a lot in frustration too

Both of you need to walk away from each other a lot during arguments. You’re both driven by your emotions, so its hard to think logically once you’ve both gotten really upset.

The type to sit outside a door after an argument if you’ve locked yourself in a room, pressing against it and quietly talking to you, regardless of whether or not he gets a response

Understands space, to a certain extent. He’ll try and talk to you after an argument, try anything to get you to just answer him, to come out from your room, to stop ignoring him. He knows when you really don’t want to face him though, which is when he’ll go out for a while, either to Langa’s for advice, or just for a quiet skate.

Despite how upset he gets in the moment, he gets over it quickly. Once he’s out of his head and seeing properly, he’ll take some time to think it over and see things from your point of view. He’ll come back to you with an apology, and when you’re ready to talk, he’ll discuss things with you this time around instead of fighting

If the fight lasts overnight, he refuses to let you take the couch. If he feels a fight will last, he’ll glue himself to the couch, making it impossible for you to sleep anywhere other than your bed. No matter what the fight was about, he refuses to have you sleep uncomfortably.

Tends to cry after making up. It’s rarely out of sadness, of course, more relief than anything. He’s just happy to have you back in his arms, no longer ignoring him.

Cherry

A very rational person, fights are very rare between the pair of you. When you do fight, it tends to be because you feel he’s being closed off from you, not being as open and emotional with you. As for him, he doesnt like when you act too aloof about things that are actually serious to him

Fights start out quiet, talking in normal tones and using your heads. However, as the fight goes on, your voices gradually get higher and louder, arms thrown in the air as you get in each other’s faces.

He snaps quite a bit. Petty remarks, snappy replies and other unnecessary comments are thrown out without much thought as he gets more pissed off. Not necessarily because he doesn’t have anything to defend himself, but because once he’s started, he’ll do just about anything to piss you off

Depending on the fight, it could last an hour or a week. Both of you are so petty that you’ll refuse to apologise to the other, forgetting who was even in the wrong in the first place

Honestly, whoever goes to sleep first gets the bed, he’s not as considerate as Reki. However, as the fight goes on, the pair of you will stay up for ungodly hours into the night, trying to outlast the other because they dont want them sleeping on the couch. You’ll never admit that though, which is why you wont just fall asleep on the couch first. Besides, if you happen to fall asleep on the couch before Kaoru goes to bed, he’ll carry you upstairs and sleep on the couch himself. He’ll never admit that though, he’ll simply say you woke up and went upstairs in a hazy half-sleep, which is why you dont remember.

He’s definitely programmed Carla to apologise to you for him at least once, rolling her into the room you’re in before quickly walking out to the sound of “Y/N, I-am-very-sorry-and-I-was-wrong-please-forgive-me” in Carlas robotic voice

If you ever go to Joe’s restaurant to cool down, he’ll make a big fuss, swaying and sighing, dramatically shouting about “however will these lovers reconcile!?” Once his act is over though, he’ll comfort you and give you your favourite meal, tutting over the pair of you and thinking of ways to help you make up

Literally won’t let you go of you for at least a week after you fight. This mf is hanging off you, constant forehead kisses, the whole deal. He’s gone without your affection for a long time while you fought, he’s simply making up for lost time

Joe

You get really pissed at him when he flirts with other girls. He doesn’t mean to, he’s just a bit of a girl magnet and it’s his nature to entertain them. Of course, he all yours, but he forgets sometimes that jealousy is actually a thing

Doesnt take arguments as seriously as he probably should. He’s the type to tell you to “calm down” in the worst possible moment, its usually what makes you explode, actually.

Absolutely dense. The type to listen to you shout for five minutes, and only then have the audacity to ask you just what your problem was

It’s not his fault, bless him. He’s just a little unobservant when it comes to your emotions. When he realises you’re actually upset though, he’s apologising profusely and promising to never do it again

His apologies are always so genuine, you generally forgive him. However, if he does something that really pisses you off and you dont forgive him, he’ll give you space to think

Fights are usually resolved within a day. Like Langa, he refuses to let you go to bed angry

Cooks for you every meal regardless of whether or not you eat it. He’ll leave meals outside your door as a sort of truce, quietly pressing against the door and asking you to please come eat with him, that he hates the idea of you holed up in there all alone

Like Kaoru, he tends to reply with snarky remarks that have little to do with the argument, but they have a little less bite to them. More petty, if anything

Another big reason for why fights never last long is because this man literally. Will. Not. Survive. Without. You. You’ll be trying to ignore him while he comes in every five minutes, asking you how to get a certain channel on the TV, or stupid things you know he’s only asking because he misses talking to you

After you make up, he literally wont even look at another girl for at least a week. Mf will literally turn his head the other way if a girl comes near him, shouting about how he’s spoken for

Shadow

The biggest hothead. He says a lot of things he doesn’t mean in the moment, which will cause you to storm out and he’ll immediately regret it

The fight almost immediately escalates past hushed voices, swear words thrown around as you get in each other’s faces

He’ll get really upset, but he’ll mask it with being pissed off and angry, clashing pots around and acting like a literal baby. He doesnt want to admit it, but he always feels awful right after a fight. He knows youll need a bit of space after the intense shouting, so he’ll give you that space before even attempting an apology

Aggressively cares for you. Like he’ll say things like “I made food, it’ll taste like shit if you leave it, so I suggest you have it now” or “nope, I want the couch, I’m gonna watch something” he’ll never admit it, he just wants to make sure you’re alright even while fighting

If the two of you go to S while fighting, it’ll be very obvious. Usually you’re attached at the hip, but now you couldn’t be further apart. However, he’s still looking out for you, keeping an eye on you to make sure you’re alright. If you’re ever getting hit on by some creep, the fight is forgotten and he’s back at your side, daring the stranger to come any closer to you.

Reki is always the first to notice, poking him and pushing you over to him, trying to get the two of you to make up. Surprisingly, it actually does help clear the air

He can never stay mad at you for long though, he’s completely soft for you

Makes you bouquets to try and apologise. He’s taught you a lot about the meanings of flowers, so he’ll specifically pick ones with hidden meanings like “I’m sorry” or “I love you”

Not very good with verbal apologies. He knows when they’re needed though, and they are usually delivered through a series of grumbles and sad expressions. The thought is there though

Gives very gentle, long hugs after you make up. He’ll hold you close, suggesting a date or a movie to help the two of you relax

Miya

Literally the biggest bitch out of the six to fight with. He’s so petty, he will refuse to admit he’s wrong for the longest time. Once he’s in, there’s no accepting he’s not right

At least for a while anyway. He’ll start to feel bad once he sees just how upset you’re getting, frustrated with his inability to see anyone’s point of view but his own

King of the silent treatment. He’ll hide away behind his switch, drowning out his guilty thoughts with the white noise of animal crossing

He’ll skate to take his mind off things, practicing new tricks until he’s exhausted

Makes really snide remarks that have absolutely nothing to do with the argument. The type to bring up shit that happened 4 months ago just to help his case

Reki is usually the one to make him see sense, telling him just how petty he’s being, and that he cant get so defensive when he’s in the wrong. He knows this, obviously, he just can’t help it sometimes.

Although he’s not one for real apologies, he’ll slowly begin to stop ignoring you, bringing you small snacks or sending you funny things he saw on his phone. He’ll sit beside you, acting as if it was completely unintentional, but will slowly inch closer and closer until he’s curled up at your side, mumbling about how he wasn’t completely right after all

Will literally hit anyone who tries to comment on how the pair of you have made up, talking about how “its not even that big of a deal, just shut up”
