The Cowsills "The Very Best of..." LP. I suppose my old man instilled my love of pop music in me. Even stuff I tried to resist. Like The Cowsills. This was his album. I didn't fall in love with their all time classic "The Rain, the Park & Other Things" till a few years ago, a few years even after my pops croaked. When I was reading my Jan Berry mega biography earlier this year the name Artie Kornfeld was often mentioned as a co-writer of Jan & Dean songs, so I was amused to see he was the co-author of this monster too. Apparently he was also the co-organizer of Woodstock. Busy dude. But yeah, Canton's own, The Cowsills, are pretty alright. I can't help like what I like and I suppose I'm a bit of a dork. But at least I'm legit 😎 Also, "The Rain, The Park..." sounds stupid good on my system. Some people tell me that I was born in the wrong generation to be loving 80's music, but it really clicks with me after my dad kept playing a few tracks in the car as a child and then I just branched off from that, even knowing more music than he does! 😂 My #MusicCrushMonday this week is Daryl Hall and John Oates, better known by their last names respectively... I love how in a time when new wave was all the rage, these two manage to maintain an alternative, blue-eyed soul vibe that stood them out from the rest. Right now I'm really digging "Everything Your Heart Desires". "Hall and Oates" is up there on my favorite bands along with a-ha and Janne Da Arc :3, all bands that are past my time. The very best of Psychology & Human Relations

Have you ever wondered about Psychology? Or what it is? I mean we hear Psych but what is it really? 

I heard of psych and of course I knew it had something to do with the mind but that was about it but it was all about to change the day I went to see my college advisor to talk about my next courses I needed to take and to my surprise he said I needed to take a Psychology & Human Relations class and if your like me with no knowledge other then that it pertained to the mind I started feeling skeptical and I suddenly started googling but at first the only thing that would pop up was Psychology classes to register at local colleges but I wanted the true definition of it and I cam across one on google that said Psychology had to do with the thought. As the time got closer and closer for the first day of class I was excited about it. The first day came, I walked in and at first I was in awe because of what my instructor had on for clothing choice but to be completely honest I was sort of starting to judge him. There he was starting with heels on, eye balls shirt, shoes, and a big eyeball sticker on his face I thought “how rather strange”, “I wonder if his feel hurt in those heel?”, and for a second I was thinking maybe the class wasn’t going to be what I had expected. It took me about a couple of days to receive my book for the class, it was until then when I actually sat and read the book and I was so fascinated. 

Psychology really is to learn about the mind, how a person thinks, why they feel or act a certain way, a persons beliefs and where they originate from, perception, conflicts, emotions, relationships(committed and workplace ones). I know it might sound boring but I promise it’s not because it’s also in a way that you learn abut yourself along the way throughout the course. 

I know you’re probably thinking like what could I possibly gain from this Psychology class but you'd be surprise with how much you actually relate to in the topics covered. So lets talk about it.

Lets say you’re gossiping with your friend, in this case a girl for example and she’s venting to you how her boyfriends mom doesn’t like you because you are of color(African American) so the mom makes remarks about you to her son and her son expresses these things to you and your left feeling so shocked because you've done nothing wrong to her or her son but It turns out she's in fact racist and although it has nothing to do with what you’ve done but who you are. Then you’re left thinking how can she be racist or hate you because your of color. This is known as prejudice.... Your boyfriends mom grew up in a racist atmosphere when she was younger resulting in her carrying that in her upbringing.

Another interesting thing you’ll learn is the bystander effect. Have you ever seen a fight in school and no one steps in to help the victim? Well that's exactly what the bystander effect is. Or how about you see a video surfacing on social media about a child crying and wondering the streets and catch yourself saying “How are people seeing this child cry and not do anything about it?” Well in Psychology you learn that that no one steps in to help because they are afraid to draw attention. 

I bet you never wondered what your personality type is. Well in this class you learn to do that if you haven't yet. It crazy how you take a questionnaire test and bam you find that you're an extrovert person, open to experiences, conscientiousness, agreeable, and neuroticism. Each is different and in order to find out you must take a personality test to determine your type as well as your low and high in each type. 

The class also gives you in insight on how to overcome challenges like commitment in your relationship, conflict in your area of work place, listening skills, how to deal with emotions. It’s a reflection of your upbringing as child and what contributes to your beliefs now followed by how they originated because It’s not just out of no where there is a reason your feel strongly about a belief that could be based on an experience a person had. 

It’s so funny to me because I feel like I can sort of read people now from taking this class and it’s also interesting how I took what we learned in class into everyday situations. I took 1 Psych class and suddenly I feel like a counselor, I know funny and strange right? But suddenly I feel as if I need to know the purpose as to why a purpose acts a way they do. 

We also covered the listening topic and how important it is. Since covering the listening topic I’ve been activate my listening skills learned in the class more closely now for example, I tend to always say “uh-huh’, “yeah, yeah” or nod my head and I would be on my phone while the other person is talking to me. I know how rude of me! This topic was also my favorite because although we listen to a person talk or vent it’s important to pay attention and not stage hog or how you should wait to advise that person until after they are done speaking and how body language also plays a huge role in the aspect because even though you might have your arms crossed it might give off the vibe of you being annoyed or giving the impression of not wanting to listen. 

So if you’re interested in taking a Psychology class and curious of the human mind and behaviors in regards to the following mentioned about Psychology & Human Relations it’s worth with and a beneficial part about it is you learn about yourself.
