I thought this book sounded so cute and fun and I just had to buy it 😁😁 Anyhoo, I had such a long weekend and while it was fun (I saw Despicable Me 3 😁) it was also a little stressful as I've been resting up after spending all day Friday at the hospital, and yesterday went back to work after an early morning visit to get more blood drawn (which is not fun since now I have a big bruise on my hand the size of Jupiter). SUMMARY A. J. Fikry is the persnickety bookstore proprietor on Alice Island. The sign over the quaint book shop states: “No Man is an Island, Every Book is a World. But A. J. Fikry has made himself an island in the years since his wife died in a tragic car accident. Not only has he alienated himself from friends and family but his bookstore sales were down. He lived in a small space over the bookstore and it seemed like things could not get much worse for him, when a rare and extremely valuable book, a collection of Edgar Allen Poe poems, is stolen.

But the life of A. J. Fikry was majorly transformed overnight when a baby girl was left in the aisle of the children section of the bookshop. Maya was pretty and two and had been abandon with a note pinned to an Elmo doll. The note says that Maya is smart and her mother is desperate and wants her to grow up to be a reader, she wants her to grow up around books and around people who care about those kind of things. This request shifts A. J.’s life on its axis. It does not take long for his isolationist attitude to change and he finds himself as the center of the community. Locals are stopping by to offer help and advice, and the bookstore is prospering. Even his personal life takes a positive turn. It’s a life different than anything he ever dreamed possible.

REVIEW The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry is definitely a book for book lovers. It is both charming and captivating. It was like eating ice cream, I had to devour it quickly. I found myself laughing out loud in the middle of the night. And when I finally fell asleep I even dreamed about this book. A.J.’s character was well developed and evolved spectacularly as his life progressed. It was great fun reading about the change in him. Anyone who has experienced parenthood can definitely relate to the change in the feelings and emotions as A.J. learns how to care for a toddler.

Gabrielle Zevin creatively titles and starts each of the seventeen chapters with a reference to one of A. J.’s favorite short stories and a short narrative explaining the relevance of the short story to their life. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that loves to read, or anyone whose idea of a good time is hanging out in a bookstore or library. The book is full of memorable quotes, my favorite: “You know everything you need to know about a person from the answer to the question, What is your favorite book.”

Finally made it to the Z's in #bookfrommylibrary The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin is a wonderful story. "Fikry owns an island bookstore and things are not going well for him. So for today's challenge for #justmybookbloggerlifemay the prompt is: Fantasy job you'd want. Now Idk about you but no career in the fantasy genre sounds appealing to me AT ALL. I am a bit of a wimp who suffers from anxiety and I feel like you need to be a real badass to take on a job in ANY fantasy world 😂With that said I'm going to be a bit boring and pick a job that is more realistic and would keep me completely content... and SAFE. It follows a man who lost his wife and managed to push away everyone who was close to him prior to that loss. He became very angry at the world. That is until one day someone leaves a baby at the door of his bookshop-changing his life forever. 🌹 I found myself both laughing and crying throughout this book and I HIGHLY recommend it. 🌹 QOTD: What book had you ugly crying?
