Happy Pride!! We are showcasing our favorite queer characters for Pride month!
Number 5: Alabaster from The Broken Earth Trilogy! Alabaster is a same gender loving, ten-ringed orogene who mentors Syenite. In The Broken Earth, Alabaster forms a loving polyamorous triad with Innon and his child's - Corundum - mother. We enjoyed reading the tales of these polyamorous characters!
This breath-taking art by Jemppu Malkki presenting Alabaster and his son Corundum as Duccio's Madonna and child is everything!!
We have the #HugoAward winning Broken Earth Trilogy signed by NK Jemisin! @SistahScifi |  www.sistahscifi.com | https://sistahscifi.com/products/the-broken-earth-trilogy-paperback!
Better yet, check out the trilogy from your local #library!

Great story to what turns out to be an amazing trilogy. (Just finished #TheStoneSky last night.) Love the magic system, the use of 2nd person POV and the contrast between this and sprawling, multi-character, multi POV fantasy epics like Sanderson or Jordan is telling. You don't need all that to tell an epic, powerful fantasy story.

Finally started the final book in The Broken Earth trilogy. I’ve been holding off because I don’t want it to end. I’ve been reading sci-fi since 1983 and I’ve only ever been knocked flat by two series: Dan Simmons’ Hyperion Cantos and N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy. Both are brilliantly plotted, eloquently written, and perfectly executed.

Who else is preparing a to-read list for the new year? These are the Sci-fi/Fantasy books that I've had on the shelf for a while and really want to read/finish reading this year. La Belle Sauvage is the French version of The Book of Dust that I picked up in a second hand bookshop when I lived in France. I started it a while ago but never finished it. What are you planning to read in the new year? I'd love to know! - Lotte

✨The Stone Sky✨ . “But for a society build on exploitation, there is no greater threat than having no one left to oppress.” . This is the third and final book in The Broken Earth series and follows a group of characters in an apocalyptic future as they try to simply survive until the next season. . About halfway through this book, I knew that this would be my favorite series and that I would do a journal spread commemorating it. The stakes were so high and I loved and cared about all of these characters and while a ton of world-building isn’t exactly something that interests me, the way Jemisin does it kept me hooked until the end. I have been on a journey trying to learn what I like in fantasy and am so thankful for this series existing and showing me what I enjoy. What I really appreciate about this series are all of the real-world themes Jemisin covers in this fantasy world. This story is very much about surviving but it also contains discussions of environmentalism, blood relations vs. found family, prejudices, and slavery and exploitation. There is SO MUCH going on and so much to think about and I’d really love to read the entire series again because this is one of those stories where I’m certain I’ll get something else out of it every time I read it again. I can’t recommend this series enough if you’re in the mood for a truly clever fantasy that takes a bit of work but is DEFINITELY worth it. . What do you look for in a fantasy? . #thestonesky #fantasy #adultfantasy #NKJemisin #readingjournal #journaling #journalspread #bookreview #bookrecommendations #bookblogger #bookblog #bookishcommunity #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookishlovegroup #bookishlove #readersofinstagram #reader #books #bookworm #bookish #booknerd #instabook #booksofinstagram #booklove #booksbooksbooks #instabooks #igreads #bookcommunity https://www.instagram.com/p/CL7I74UA66p/?igshid=1xmr4tr9fw1uf

• • #editoramorrobranco #nkjemisin #aquintaestacao #oportaodoobeslico #oceudepedra #trilogiaaterrapartida #thefifthseason #theobeliskgate #thestonesky #thebrokenearth #balaiodebabados #instabook #bibliophile #bookaddict #bookaholic #instalitetario #bookstagram #amoler #bookstagrammer #bookstagramslz (at São Luís, Brazil) https://www.instagram.com/p/CG5su4DjjRN/?igshid=166jbnsud6a6n

I put off this post for #blackspeculativefictionmonth for weeks because I can’t find my copy of The Shadowed Sun (The second book in the Dreamblood Duology) despite several searches and it is annoying me terribly. But in the end, I couldn’t let that keep me from featuring one of the most amazing authors in sff today, N.K.Jemisin. I got to hear her on a panel once at Book Riot Live, and she is as amazing and thoughtful in person as she is in her writing. The Dreamblood Duology has a special place in my heart because it is where I discovered Jemisin, but the Broken Earth Trilogy is the series she won THREE CONSECUTIVE HUGOS for, and it’s for good reason. Her worldbuilding is truly fantastic, and her characters flawed and strong and messy and real. I need to catch up on the rest of her writing! . . #nkjemisin #blackspecfic #blackspeculativefiction #blacksff #wocauthor #dreambloodduology #brokenearthtrilogy #thekillingmoon #thefifthseason #theobeliskgate #thestonesky https://www.instagram.com/p/B342ZPQg7BC/?igshid=szxf8brtavcs

N.K. Jemisin - The Stone Sky (2017) The conclusion to the glorious Broken Earth trilogy, a series so good that all of the entries actually won the Hugo Award for that year is a bittersweet conclusion to the story of Essun and Nassun and stone-eaters and weird shit. What Jemisin does so amazingly well here is creating a completely alien feeling world where some people have power over rocks, some people are made of rocks and eat rocks, there are floating obelisk computers and the moon is gone in what feels like a post apocalyptic earth, but if the apocalypse would happen thousands of years in the future. So it's an apocalypse where the old world is actually a far future civilization. However, it's also all about mothers and daughters, abusive relationships, love, racism, climate change, war, emancipatory movements and all the most "now" things there are. What is interesting is how well that social exploration is enmeshed with the completely alien world, so much so that you do find yourself going "ohhh this is about x!" while you are engrossed in the story. Jemisin's writing is also fantastic and even if it might seem weird or hard going at first, by this third volume you are completely into it, and the shifts from first to second to third person narration actually become useful in understanding who we are talking about at a certain moment. A fitting conclusion to what is a true masterpiece. I'm about a quarter of the way through The Stone Sky. The book takes one gut-wrenching turn after another. The most powerful and disturbing things in this book (and series) are all the things it has to say about our world and less about the Stillness. This is what the best fantasy should always do, and I don't think anyone does it better than N.K. Jemisin. #AmReading #bookstagram #NKJemisin #TheBrokenEarth #TheFifthSeason #TheStoneSky #TheObeliskGate #book #books #fantasy #epicfantasy

Ahora sí: FAVORITOS 2018. Hubo otras lecturas (y relecturas) que marcaron este año: Nimona, How to Suppress Women's Writing, La princess prometida, Los girasoles ciegos... - Where Am I Now?, de Mara Wilson. - The Stone Sky, de NK Jemisin. - The End of the Day, de Claire North. . . #books #fav2018 #thestonesky #oculiarboris #whereaminow? #trececuentos #nubosidadvariable #theendoftheday #lasciennochesdehero https://www.instagram.com/p/BsIhtgTnbWN/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=w0z1yq4jahjn
