I am a 3rd-year student in Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. I study Tourism and Event Management in the international TEMPO class.  The subject of my thesis is seichijunrei (聖地巡礼), also known as “anime pilgramige”. The aim of my thesis is to understand how anime and other Japanese fiction media entertainment effect a tourist in their decisions when choosing international destinations and visiting points of interest. I wish that anime and Japanese pop-culture fans, aswell as those who have participated in seichijunrei partake in this survey.    All answers are handled anonymously with trust and good scientific conduct. Participants cannot be identified from their answers. Answering this survey takes around 15 minutes, and the survey can be accessed untill 2nd of October 23:59 or untill ~50 answers have been recorded. Participation to this survey is voluntary, and the answers provided will only be used for this thesis.

Help a final year student become master of communications!

Hello American friends! I have an important call that I'd like to make to you. Have you read the New York Times (frequently or infrequently), or are you roughly informed when it comes to the Times' writing tone, news topics, brand image etc? Could you then be so kind to help enhance the quality of my graduation research by filling out a survey for me? You can submit your answers anonymously, the survey does not track IP-address or e-mail! My thesis object in a nutshell: I objectively investigate the news coverage of Holocaust denial in cross-cultural perspective. I compare the Times to their Dutch journalist counterpart, the Volkskrant. I dissect i.e. writing tone, topic choice, text length, andsoforth. I have concluded some findings from text analyses that I'd like to hear your ideas about :) Filling out takes approx. 6-9 minutes! Data will be stored for 3 months and then deleted. I want to write my bachelor's thesis about fanficion and AI - specifically about fanfiction writers' attitude towards the use of generative AI in fandom spaces

What I can say about the survey for now:

1. The survey will be anonymous!

2. The survey will be in English (but the rest of my thesis will not. I am however required to write an abstract in English)

3. My supervisor said it's fine if I want to focus on one fandom - In this case it will be the HP fandom. However I would like to include as many reposnes as I can, so it will probably not be a requirement to be in the HP fandom.

4. You don't need to write fanfiction to take part in the survey (but there will be a question if you read and/or write fanfics). You need to be in the fandom though

5. You need to be over 18 (most likely)

I want to keep myself anonymous as well so there is a possibility I will have to make a separate sideblog/account for it.

If anyone will be interested in the results, for some reason - I am required to write the abstract in English, so I might share the abstract. Maybe. More info after I write anything for my thesis.

How do you express loneliness?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently writing my master’s thesis in social work on the topic of loneliness. After already having written a bachelor's thesis on loneliness during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown using a questionnaire as a research tool, my thesis supervisor and I came to the conclusion to stay on the same topic but handle it with a different approach.

Everyone has had experiences with loneliness in their life. No matter if they felt lonely themselves or heard about it, seen it on TV or read about it. Within my master’s thesis I want to explore the different ways people express loneliness. The research question of the master's thesis is therefore: "How do you express loneliness?".

My idea was to base the research on submissions. Within the submissions everything is possible, no matter if it is textual or written, artistic, videos, songs, photography or anything else that might help contextualize loneliness. (Examples could be: poems, texts, essays, haikus, lyrics, paintings, drawings, collages, videos, songs, photos etc.)

Looking for participants for a survey (for my master's thesis)

Hi everyone!

I don’t know how far this will reach out of my usual crowd, but here goes nothing.

I’m doing my master’s thesis in IT and Management (I’m focused on the IT part of things, closely related to computer science). The aim of my study is to explore the potential application of artificial intelligence as a suitable assistive technology or tool for supporting autistic people in processing emotional content within written communication.

The idea is to use technologies like sentiment analysis, text based emotion detection or similar (different forms of artificial intelligence that can process the text and compute feelings in it) to analyse sentiment and emotion in written communication, specifically focusing on written social communication you receive (I.e. texts / chat messages / emails / the like). 

The idea was born a few years ago as I was looking for a subject for my bachelor’s thesis. Both from researching into areas close to this one, but also out of my own need for support in that specific area, as I too am autistic and struggle with analysing and understanding emotional content in communication quite often.

With all that said, I’m asking all people who are autistic, and who might relate to these struggles (having a hard time understanding things such as emotion, potentially also stylistic devices like similes, metaphors, irony and sarcasm), to help me explore the potential of such a tool or technology by answering my survey.

The survey is absolutely anonymous and I won’t receive any other information about you than the one you choose to share with me.

Disclaimer; as you might be aware of, AI is still far, far, far from perfect. This is still a very new idea, and I’m exploring the perception and opinion rather than the technology.
