Police and soldiers have been accused of indiscriminately dragging people from their homes and beating them. Hundreds of people have been arrested and doctors say they have treated scores of victims with serious gunshot injuries.  The United Nations on Friday urged Harare to "stop the crackdown" on protesters, with its human rights office voicing alarm over the security forces' "excessive use of force" which included reports of them using live ammunition. It urged Zimbabwe's government "to find ways of engaging with the population about their legitimate grievances". Nationwide demonstrations erupted on Monday after President Emmerson Mnangagwa said fuel prices would doublein a country which suffers regular shortages of banknotes, fuel, food and medicine. "We were served with another directive for the total shutdown of the internet until further notice," said Zimbabwe's biggest mobile operator, Econet, in a text message sent on Friday. The internet was first cut on Tuesday. READ: Zim's biggest mobile operator ordered to shut down internet MDC, the main opposition party, accused the government of trying to suppress information about the security operation, in which between five and 16 people have been killed, activists say.  Accusing the government of "wanton violence", the party warned that the authorities were "planning on further gross human rights violations under the cover of the communications blackout". The EU on Thursday joined the US and Britain in criticising the authorities' response to the latest protests.  "The escalation of violence in Zimbabwe over recent days has been aggravated by the disproportionate use of force by security personnel," European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said in a statement. Netflix’s “The Get Down” gets “The Shut Down” Treatment

As hot as The Get Down was last year when it debuted on the streaming network Netflix,what once was hot has now fizzled in the eyes of the network. Bringing fans a bit of old school in this new musical drama,highlighting breakdancing, the coming of age of hip hop,graffiti,a little taste of the boogie down in the 1970′s for season one,word came down that The Get Down would not be renewed for a season two. Although I loved season one,I did not enjoy watching that rush job they did with those additional episodes they added on in April. They seemed rushed, cartoony and the acting was a bit off on a few of the characters,like the actors didn’t have enough time to rehearse or something.

Deal breaker seems to be when series creator/executive producer Bax Luhrmann couldn’t commit to the show full time for season two or that what he says in this statement. "When I was asked to come to the center of The Get Down to help realize it, I had to deter a film directing commitment for at least two years. This exclusivity has understandably become a sticking point for Netflix and Sony, who have been tremendous partners and supporters of the show. It kills that I can’t split myself into two and make myself available to both productions but the simple truth is, I make movies.”

Now here’s the theory Variety has on the true reason for the show not getting a season two.

“The cancellation brings an official end to a series that was plagued by behind-the-scenes troubles and failed to connect with viewers in ways that buzzy Netflix hits such as Stranger Things and Orange is the New Black have. Season One premiered in two parts, with the second part debuting on the streaming service in April to little fanfare. The first part of season one, which premiered last year drew 3.2 million total U.S adult viewers 18-49 in its first 31 days, roughly one fifth the audience that viewed Orange is the New Black, season four in its first 31 days. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, The Get Down was the most expensive original series in Netflix’s history, costing at least $120 million to produce at $7.5 million per episode, the series was one of the most costly in Hollywood history. As Variety reported last year, production on the show was stopped and started so many times that some writers on the series began to jokingly call it “The Shut Down.”
