Given that their composition changes so regularly, any team I currently support may be made up of completely different players, coaches, and administrators in five years. In what sense, then, will I be supporting the same team that I support now?
adam kadlac, the ethics of sports fandom
been thinking about this a lot lately, especially in relation to the growing trend of fans (in a variety team sports) supporting individual players as opposed to teams. what compels us to continue supporting a team even after the youngest player at the first match we watched has retired? what identity, independent of the players who make it up, does a team posses? even after players have been traded, coaches have been hired and fired, and ownership has changed hands, there remains some spirit so foundational to the being of the club that allows us to identify it as the same. this, i believe, is it's grounding in and connection to a particular place.
i find it particularly telling that the practice of supporting individuals over teams is perhaps most prevalent in sports where there is a concerted effort made to scrub away a team's sense of place to make way for sponsor based identities, such as formula 1. the sport's international nature and high team turnover rate (tied to sponsors, of course) likely also plays a part. what, then, is driving this change in other sports?
football has always been a sport where teams have been intrinsically tied to a place. while the player over team support trend has yet to become as prevalent in football as it is in some other sports, it does seem to be creeping in. this could be potentially chalked up to a number of factors. perhaps it's the globalization (read: mostly increased american interest, as the rest of the world has been playing football happily for years) of the sports, introducing fans who have no personal connection to the place a club is from, and therefore lack allegiance to the club. maybe it's the steady increase in foreign ownership of teams, to an extent where this erodes away at fan's visions of a club as a physical manifestation of the spirit of their hometown. perhaps stronger personal branding of players is a part of it; they're no longer simply an agent of the team, but an individual in their own right, worthy of being followed no matter where they go (there is something to be said here about the relationship between personal branding, increased sponsor opportunities, and the fact that having ten individual players shill your product is better than the singular entity that is the team). whatever it is, i do find it a little sad - it renders teams somewhat purposeless, empty husks whose only purpose is to house players, otherwise devoid of value.
#had a though. it expanded. have this weird condensed abstractish thing#in my mind there's a fat chunk after paragraph 1 where i actually prove the stuff about place w everything the server was discussing earlie#and like. a deep dive into the f1/broader motorsport aspect of it. and other sports where this is quickly happening#cycling mutuals do u see this happening? bc that's another team sport where team identity is mostly i think more sponsors based?#plus the fact that cycling teams function so differently...so many sacrificial guys all for one special guy#and tbh i feel like while this may be happening in football it's at a CRAWLING pace#which speaks to the clubs connection with communities#like bilbao liverpool barca ect are just SO ENTRENCHED and inseperable from their respective places#there is a chapter in this imaginary paper about team names. bc so so so many footy team names are THE NAME OF THE PLACE#or are super duper tied to the name of the place (arsenal ect)#side note do we think the prevalance of american arsenal fans has something to do with the lack of an overt place name in their title?#anyways. yes names. and when u look at sports where player support is happening faster it's the ones where hella teams are named forsponsor#probably something to be said here about saudi pro league naming convention (not place based at alll) and the general identity and existenc#but that's a whole nother nuanced discussion#ANYWAYS. if u read till here mwah ily send me ur thoughts#sports#squish speaks#sport + place

Not As Planned | Sebastian Sallow x Reader
THANK YOU FOR OVER 300 FOLLOWERS?
I am shocked and humbled and just⌠wow. At a loss. Iâve been working on this XL one-shot for awhile since I've been writing a lot of super cute love confessions and fluff lately. I felt inspired to change it up a little bit, so this is heavier than my usual stuff... (maybe this qualifies as whump?? Idk lmk ahaha)
But consider this my humble thank you for your continued support. I am just⌠I canât believe so many people have been compelled to follow me because of my silly little writing hobby.
With that said Iâm sorry for the pain this might cause (but at the same time in a much more real sense Iâm not sorry at all bahaha)
And donât worry, still a (mostly) happy ending.

The low hum of the bar buzzed like a low-grade static in Sebastianâs ears. A smooth jazz ensemble played in the corner, their music rich and sultry, threading through the room like smoke. Golden light bathed the space, casting everything in soft amber hues that made the whole place feel a little unreal. Along the curved bar, bottles of rare liquors glittered like jewels, and the faint scent of citrus and something floralâlavender, maybeâlingered in the air.
It was a far cry from their usual haunts.
Sebastian ran his fingers around the rim of his glass, trailing condensation down to the base. The whiskey in front of him wasnât his first, and it wouldnât be his last. Across from him, Ominis sat with the casual poise that came so easily to him, his chin balanced on one hand while his other traced absent patterns along the bar's polished surface. He looked relaxed, though Sebastian knew better. If the subtle flush on his pale cheeks wasnât enough of a giveaway, the way his lips twitched faintly every time Poppyâs name came up certainly was.
Beside him, Garreth Weasley was anything but subtle. Loud as ever, he laughed and gestured animatedly, mid-story about some disastrous experiment heâd tried at the pub last weekend.
ââŚand then, right as Iâm about to take a sip, she snatches it out of my hand, takes one look at it, and saysâand I quoteââYou have a death wish, donât you?â Can you imagine? The nerve!â Garreth threw his hands up in mock indignation. âIt wasnât even that bad. Just rum, peach schnapps, absintheââ
âOne day,â Ominis cut in smoothly, tilting his head toward Garreth with the faintest smirk. âYou will be tried for your alcoholic war crimes, Weasley.â
Sebastian snorted into his drink, unable to help himself. He'd need both hands to count the number of times Garreth had walked into a bar and pestered the bartender to mix him something absolutely disastrous.
It was a wonder they still got served anywhere.
Garreth scoffed, taking an exaggerated sip of his neon-colored monstrosity. âYou just donât appreciate true genius.â
Ominis arched a brow. âIf by âgenius,â you mean âreckless disregard for the structural integrity of your liver,â then yes, I'm terribly ungrateful.â
Sebastian smirked, but his attention flickered toward the entranceâagain. The girls werenât even late, not technically, but every passing minute stretched unbearably. He should have been used to this feeling by now, this sharp-edged anticipation curling low in his chest.
He wasnât. He never was. It was always like this, wasnât it?
The waiting. The wanting.
Sebastian had spent over a decade orbiting around you, trapped in some endless, torturous loop of almostsâof lingering touches, stolen glances, conversations that danced too close to the edge of something he didnât dare name. The worst part? It was his own doing. Heâd had every opportunity to cross that invisible line, to tell you what he felt, what he ached for, but he never did.
Because once he did, there would be no undoing it.
Meanwhile, everyone else in their group was paired off now. Garreth and Natty had been inseparable since a Ministry event a few years back, and Poppy and Ominis had been as good as married the moment Hogwarts spat them out. Imelda had ended up with Nerida, to the surprise of no one, the two of them making up a formidable duoâone sharp-tongued and reckless, the other quietly cutting.
Sebastian was happy for them. Truly, he was. It was almost sickening how well it had worked out for everyone. Theyâd all somehow ended up with their Hogwarts sweethearts, riding off into the sunset with picture-perfect endings that looked like something out of a fairy tale.
And then there was him.
The idiot whoâd spent 11 years hopelessly in love with his best friend and done absolutely nothing about it.
At first, it had been easier to pretend it wasnât a big deal. You were best friends. You had always been best friends. Of course you were close. Of course you knew each other better than anyone. So what if you had a habit of leaning against him whenever you were tired, or if you always reached for him first when something made you laugh so hard you couldnât breathe? So what if you touched him more than anyone else, if you let your fingers brush his wrist when you passed him a drink or hooked your ankle around his under the table without thinking about it?
It had always been like that. Until one day, it wasnât. Until one day, when he was 15, heâd looked at you, and his stomach had flipped, and suddenly, every innocent touch, every laugh, every glance, felt different. Felt like something else entirely.
And now? Now he was fucking trapped.
Ominisâs voice broke through his thoughts. âYouâll get wrinkles early if you keep scowling like that.â
Sebastian glanced up, narrowing his eyes at the smirk tugging on Ominisâs mouth. The bastard didnât even need to see him to read him like an open book.
âI donât know what youâre on about,â Sebastian muttered, taking a long sip of his drink.
Ominis didnât respond, just tipped his head slightly, his expression bordering on smug. He didnât need to say anything. The unspoken truth hung between them like smokeâSebastianâs feelings for you were obvious to everyone but you.
Garreth leaned in suddenly, jarring him. âRelax, mate. Theyâll show up. Natty wouldnât miss this for the world, and sheâd drag the others along if she had to.â He paused to sip his drink, a mischievous grin spreading over his face. âAlthough, Poppyâs probably the one making them late. You know how she loves to test Ominisâs patience.â
âMore like Nattyâs,â Ominis muttered, though there was no heat in it.
Sebastian rolled his eyes and turned toward the door again, restless. The moment stretched, his fingers tapping absently against the side of his glass. He tried to tell himself he wasnât waiting for youânot like that. He tried to tell himself he wasnât counting down the seconds until you walked through the door, wasnât anticipating the sound of your voice, wasnât wondering what youâd look like tonight, what youâdâ
And then the door opened.
And everything else stopped.
Because there you were.
You moved through the room with easy confidence, utterly unaware of the way you were undoing him. That dressâfuck, that dressâit wasnât something outrageous, wasnât scandalous or overtly suggestive, but it didnât need to be. It followed the soft curves of your body, hugged your waist, your plush thighs, the full flare of your hips in a way that made his pulse hammer violently against his ribs. Every step you took made it shift, just enough to tease, just enough to remind him that he should not be thinking about this.
And yet, his mind was already lost to darker places, caught in the dangerous, helpless imagining of how it might feel beneath his fingers. The silky fabric sliding beneath his hands, the warmth of your skin under it. How it would be if he were close enough to touch, to trace the shape of you properly, to press his hands into the softness of your waist and feel the weight of you against him.
His fingers tightened around his glass so hard he swore it might crack.
Garreth chuckled under his breath, clearly entertained, âGood luck tonight, Sallow."
Ominis said nothing, but Sebastian didnât need to see him smirking to know exactly what was going through his mind.
It was humiliating, really, how easy it was for them to see right through him. And you? You just kept moving, oblivious to the chaos you were leaving in your wake.
Sebastian watched as you approached, your laugh bright and sweet as Natsai caught your hand, spinning you once in an exaggerated flourish as if to show you off. You humored her, swaying playfully, rolling your eyes when Imelda cat-called in approval.
Then, before he could steel himself, before he could brace for the inevitable destruction you always left in your wake, your eyes landed on him again.
And fuck, that smile.
It was warm, unguarded, laced with something soft. The kind of smile that was effortless, unconscious, the kind that made his stomach drop because it meant you were happy to see him. Because you looked at him like he was something good, something familiar and safe, and it tore him to shreds inside.
He forced himself to exhale. To not look like some love-struck fool drowning in you.
âAbout time,â he said as you sidled up beside him, leaning back against the bar in a way he hoped looked casual.
You rolled your eyes, slipping onto a stool, your shoulder brushing his. âI had to make sure you suffered a little first.â
âYouâre a cruel woman.â
âIâm a patient woman,â you corrected, lifting a brow. âI got us on the guest list here weeks ago, so if I have to hear you complain about the wait, I will take my very expensive cocktail and pour it directly into your lap.â
Sebastian huffed, feigning offense. âYou wouldnât.â
You turned, propping your chin on your hand as you looked at him, amusement dancing in your eyes. âTry me.â
His stomach twisted violently. He didnât know how you did thisâhow you made him feel like you could see right through him, like you knew exactly how wrecked he was and were enjoying every moment of it.
He forced himself to focus, to shift his attention somewhere safe.
Unfortunately, there was nowhere safe.
Because now, he was looking at your lips, parted just slightly in a teasing smirk, glossed and inviting and fuckâ
He needed another drink. Immediately.
Before he could even flag the bartender down, Garreth leaned into your space with a dramatic sigh his arm wrapped around Natsai's waist. âSeriously though, what took you so long? Sebastianâs been brooding all night.â
You shot him a knowing look. âHas he now?â
Garreth smirked, tipping his glass toward Ominis. âOh, yeah. Gaunt here tried to warn him about wrinkles.â
You chuckled, leaning slightly into Sebastianâs shoulder in a way that sent a full-body shudder down his spine. âI told you, Seb. Stress is bad for you.â
He tried to smirk, to give you some smart remark, but he knew it wouldnât come out right. His brain was still lagging on the fact that your body was pressing against his.
Garreth, oblivious as ever, continued rambling. âHonestly, it was embarrassing. I think he almostââ
Sebastian elbowed him sharply, causing Garreth to spill his drink.
Natty, taking pity, pulled him back. âCome on, Garreth. Leave the poor man alone.â
âFine, fine.â Garreth grinned, clearly not remotely deterred, but let himself be steered away.
Sebastian sighed, dragging a hand through his hair before turning back to you. âSo? Was it worth the wait?â
You hummed, taking in the warm, intimate atmosphere, the soft glow of the speakeasy lights. The way the gold hues caught in your eyes nearly killed him.
âOh, absolutely,â you replied with a smile. "It looks so authentic, like just look at the bar, Seb. The design is almost spot on to the real ones from the Prohibition eraâmahogany, brass accents, those exact kind of light fixtures..."
Sebastian tried to focus on your words, really he did.
You were onto talking about speakeasy history now, eyes gleaming with excitement as you gestured toward the dim lighting, the low, rich hum of the jazz band. Youâd clearly done your research, and you were rattling off facts with that same enthusiasm you always had for things you loved. It was so endearing. You could make anything sound interesting.
âWell, technically, speakeasies originated during the Prohibition era in America,â you were saying, leaning forward slightly, the low L ight catching in your hair. âThey were hidden barsâillegal drinking spots since alcohol was banned. They had secret passwords, hidden entrances, all that. Some were even run by gangstersâpeople like Al Caponeâbecause bootlegging was so lucrative.â
Sebastian nodded, trying to pay attention, but it was impossible. Because, as much as he loved hearing you nerd out, his brain had zero capacity for historical facts when every single one of your friends had immediately paired off around him.
At the bar, Natty was leaned into Garrethâs side, her hand resting lightly on his chest as he ordered her a drink, his voice dipping into something low and teasing that made her smile. A few feet away, Poppy had sidled up to Ominis, fingers barely brushing against his wrist in that quiet, intimate way they always did. Meanwhile, Imelda and Nerida had wasted no time making themselves comfortable, tucked into a plush booth, heads close together, already lost in each other.
And then there was you. With him. Like it was the most natural thing in the world. Like you belonged here, beside him. Like you were his.
Exceptâyou werenât.
Sebastian swallowed hard, fingers curling around his glass.
It was a cruel fucking thing, this closeness you gave him so easily. Because it wasnât real, was it? Not really. You were just you. His best friend. Close enough to touch, to tease, to wreck him without even realizing it. But never his.
Never really his.
ââŚthey even had hidden tunnels sometimes,â you continued. âThe really fancy ones had hidden rooms, secret staircases, all kinds of tricks. Some of them were in basements, some behind fake storefronts. People had to whisper the password when they got in, which is where the term âspeakeasyâ comes from.â
Sebastian barely registered what you were saying and you sighed, finally noticing the way he was watching you.
âYouâre not listening, are you?â
Sebastian blinked.
âNo,â he admitted, because what was the point in lying?
You rolled your eyes, exasperated, but there was no real bite to it.
âWell, at least youâre honest.â
Sebastian smirked. âAlways.â
You huffed, clearly unimpressed. âSo, what were you thinking about?â
He should have said something teasing, something to deflect, but then you leaned in, just slightly, your head tilting, and Sebastian was drowning.
There was too much warmth in your eyes, too much softness in the way you looked at him, and for one reckless second, he thought maybe. Maybe this wasnât one-sided. Maybe you knew. Maybe you felt it too.
Sebastian cleared his throat, forcing himself to look away, to wave down the bartender like they might save him.
âNothing important,â he lied.
You studied him for a beat longer, and then, before you could say another wordâ
âWhat can I get for you?â
Mercifully, the bartender appeared, their voice smooth, professional.
Sebastian exhaled and leaned against the bar, grateful for something else to focus on. âWhiskey and Coke.â
The bartender nodded, about to turn away when Sebastian jerked his chin toward you. âAnd whatever she wants.â
You huffed then rolled your eyes. âI can pay for myself, you know.â
âI know,â Sebastian said, smirking as he propped his elbow against the bar, resting his chin in his hand. âBut since Iâm clearly suffering through your history lesson, consider it payment.â
You huffed a laugh, shaking your head. âOh, suffering, are you?â
âExcruciatingly.â
âFine,â you sighed, faux exasperation in your tone, turning back to the bartender. âIâll take the signature cocktail then, since itâs on his dime.â
Sebastian smirked, shaking his head. âFigures.â
The bartender chuckled and disappeared to prepare the drinks, leaving the two of you to settle back into the warmth of the speakeasyâs golden glow.
Sebastian let himself relax, narrowing his eyes slightly. âSo? This drink of yoursâwhatâs in it?â
You lifted a brow, amusement flickering across your expression. âTrying to impress me with your knowledge of mixology?â
âAbsolutely not.â He snorted. âJust trying to gauge how badly Iâm about to regret funding your expensive taste.â
You laughed, the sound warm, easy. âYouâll live. Itâs gin with elderflower liqueur, citrus, a little honey, some kind of infused vermouthâoh, and a sprig of rosemary for flair. They call it The Whisper.â
Sebastian snorted. âThatâs a lot of effort for a single drink.â
âThatâs the whole point of a speakeasy, you loser,â you teased, nudging your shoulder against his. âItâs all about the craft.â
He rolled his eyes but grinned. âAnd here I thought we were just here to drink.â
âWell, that too.â
Your drinks arrived, and you lifted your cocktail, inspecting it with a satisfied little nod before taking a sip. The moment your lips met the rim of the glass, Sebastian had to fight back another surge of inconvenient thoughtsâthe gloss on your mouth leaving the faintest sheen against the glass, the way your lashes fluttered slightly as you tasted it, considering the balance of flavors.
âItâs so good,â you told him, swirling the liquid lightly in your glass. âFloral, a little sweet, but not too much.â
Sebastian hummed, sipping his drink as he watched you. âGlad to know my moneyâs going to a worthy cause.â
You smirked, tilting your head. âYou know, you never did answer my question.â
Sebastian blinked. âWhat question?â
You gave him a lookâone that told him you knew he was dodging. âWhat you were thinking about earlier while you ignored my history lesson.â
His grip on his glass tightened for half a second, but before he could come up with a clever retort to get out of this, a new voice cut inâbright, excited.
âHey you!â
Poppy.
She appeared out of nowhere, seizing your wrist before you could protest. âCome dance with us!â
Your eyes widened. âPoppyâwaitââ
But Poppy was relentless, already tugging you toward the dance floor with surprising strength. âNope, no arguments! Come on!â
Sebastian watched, amused and relieved, as you shot him a look over your shoulderâhalf entertained, half exasperatedâbefore you disappeared into the crowd, swallowed by the glow of the dance floor, and just like that, you were gone.
A slow, knowing voice hummed beside him.
âShe got away from you rather quickly.â
Ominis.
Sebastian scowled. âDonât start."
The blonde sipped his drink, the picture of smug amusement. âI wasnât going to say anything.â
Sebastian shot him a flat look. âYou were absolutely going to say something.â
Ominis smirked. âWell, if you insistââ
Sebastian groaned, tossing back a sip of his whiskey and coke before slamming the glass down with a bit more force than necessary. âI donât. I really, really donât.â
âYouâre in rare form tonight,â Ominis continued, swirling the last of his drink lazily in his glass. âI think I might even pity you.â
Sebastian shot him a glare. âI donât need your pity.â
âNo, but you do need a strategy,â Ominis mused, setting his empty glass down with a soft clink. âBecause, at this rate, I fear Iâll be married before you confess to her.â
Sebastian scoffed. âThatâs rich, coming from you. Took you 8 years to say anything to Poppy.â
Ominis simply smirked. âAnd yet, here I am, in a committed relationship, while youâre still over here brooding into your drink like a lovesick schoolboy.â
Sebastian groaned, dragging a hand down his face. âMerlinâs sake, Ominis.â
âWhat?â Ominis asked, feigning innocence. âItâs painful watching you, you know. I can hear the longing.â
Sebastian scowled. âI do not long.â
Ominis turned his head toward him, lips curling ever so slightly. âSebastian. Poppy said you stared at her mouth for a full ten seconds while she was talking about her drink.â
Sebastian flushed, gripping his glass a little too hard. âIt wasnât ten seconds.â
Ominis hummed. âIt was.â
Sebastian wanted to slam his forehead into the bar.
This was his own personal hell.
Garreth sauntered over before he could wallow too deeply, plopping onto the stool beside him with a lazy grin. He slung an arm over the bar, casting a glance toward the dance floor.
âMate, you are so obvious,â Garreth said, sipping his drink. âItâs honestly impressive.â
Sebastian gave him a flat look. âDid you come over just to harass me?â
âPretty much,â Garreth said cheerfully.
Sebastian exhaled sharply, resisting the urge to throw back the rest of his drink.
Garreth followed his gaze toward the dance floor, where you were now laughing at something Natty had said, your body swaying to the rhythm of the music. The warm amber lighting bathed your skin, the movement of the crowd shifting around you in slow, rhythmic waves.
And fuck, you looked good. Too good. Sebastian took another sip of his whiskey, trying to ignore the ache curling in his chest.
âSo,â Garreth said, propping his chin in his hand. âWhatâs the plan?â
Sebastian glanced at him. âWhat?â
âThe plan,â Garreth repeated. âYou knowâthe one where you finally do something about your massive, crushing, soul-consuming love for her?â
Sebastian groaned. âCan we not do this right now?â
âMate, we have to do this right now,â Garreth said, motioning toward the dance floor. âBecause if you donât do something soon, some other guy will.â
Sebastian stiffened. Because this? This was the one thing he never let himself think about for too long.
For years, he had convinced himself there was time. That things would work out naturally, that youâd both just⌠fall into place.
It wasnât as if you had never been with anyone. You had, a few times during school, in the careless, fleeting way that teenagers fell in and out of things. But nothing had ever stuck. Nothing had ever felt like it mattered. And when they ended, Sebastian had always been there.
Your constant.
The one person you always came back to.
It had reassured him, in some selfish, pathetic way. Let him believe that you werenât really going anywhere. That whatever was between youâwhatever was building between youâwould always be there, waiting, until you both figured it out.
But then youâd fallen for him.
Your first real, serious boyfriend. The one who had made Sebastianâs life hell for over a year.
He had hated every goddamn second of it. Hated watching you be with someone else, hated the way you had looked at himâlike thatâlike he was yours. Hated seeing another man have what should have been his.
And what had he done? Nothing. Because he hadnât been brave enough.
He had let it happen. He had let himself smile and nod and pretend to be happy for you. He had let himself sit on the sidelines and watch.
And then, when it was overâwhen it had all fallen apartâhe had been there. Of course, he had. But you never told him what happened, and Sebastian never asked for details. Never pressed, never pried. All he knew was that one day, it was over, and you didnât talk about it.
And if Sebastian had felt relieved? If some ugly, selfish part of him had thrived in the knowledge that you were single again?
Well. That was between him and the whiskey.
But that was over a year ago now, and Garreth was right.
You were moving forward, and Sebastian no longer had the luxury of time. You werenât seventeen anymore. You werenât in school, fumbling through fleeting relationships just for the sake of them. You were a grown womanâbeautiful, incredible, desirableâand when you chose someone now, it would be for something real.
Something long-term. Something permanent.
And the idea of someone elseâsome faceless strangerâwalking up to you on the dance floor, flashing you a grin, letting their hands wander over your waist, pulling you close like they had any rightâfuck. That alone was bad enough. But the thought of someone keeping you, of some other man being the one you turned to at the end of the day, the one who got to wake up beside you, touch you freely, know you in ways Sebastian never had the chance toâ
It made something inside his chest splinter, burn so hot and fierce he swore it might ruin him.
Across from him, Garreth was watching, expression infuriatingly smug.
âSo,â he said, lazily swirling the ice in his drink. âHowâs that plan coming along?â
Sebastian dragged a hand through his hair, resisting the urge to groan.
âGarreth.â
âYes?â
âShut up.â
Garreth grinned. âSee, I would, but youâre being so fun to watch right now.â
Sebastian scowled, about to say something sharp and unhelpful, but his tongue turned to lead the moment he caught sight of you again.
You had slowed, your dancing shifting into something softer, something more. Natty had turned away, distracted by Poppy tugging her toward another group, and now you were swaying on your own, hands drifting absently down your sides as if lost in the rhythm. Your body moved without thought, your dress hugging the curves of your hips in ways that sent something dark curling in Sebastianâs stomach.
He watched as your eyes fluttered closed, lost in the music, the soft golden glow of the lights painting your skin in honeyed warmth.
And then, like clockwork, it happened.
Some manâsome fucking manânoticed you.
Sebastian saw it before it even began, could feel the exact moment the strangerâs gaze landed on you, lingering.
He was tall, broad-shouldered, the kind of polished that came with old money, and he was looking at you like he wanted you.
And youâunaware, obliviousâwere still dancing. Still open. Still approachable.
Sebastianâs blood ran hot.
Garreth, always a shit-disturber, let out a low whistle. âOhhh, this is gonna be good.â
Sebastian didnât even register him, because the stranger was already moving, crossing the floor toward you with intent, cutting through the slow sway of bodies, an easy grin sliding into place.
Sebastian barely heard Garreth mutter, yep, there it is, before he was already moving.
Not thinkingâjust moving, standing, glass forgotten, feet carrying him across the floor with single-minded purpose.
The stranger reached you first, but Sebastian wasnât far behind, and he saw the exact moment the manâs hand started to liftâreaching for you, moving into your space.
And he saw the way you instinctively leaned back, a subtle but unmistakable recoil, your easy smile dimming as you shook your head, declining whatever offer the guy had just made.
And before the bastard could press furtherâbefore he could try againâSebastian was there.
His body cut smoothly between you, stepping into your space so fast and close that you had to tilt your head up in surprise, your eyes widening at him.
The stranger hesitated, thrown off by his sudden arrival, but Sebastian didnât look at him. Didnât acknowledge him. Didnât even fucking blink in his direction.
Because you? You were looking at him. And only him.
Your lips parted slightly, something caught between confusion and surprise, but Sebastian didnât give you a chance to question it.
Sebastian held out a hand.
âDance with me.â
Not a request. Not a suggestion. A command.
Your brows lifted slightly at the shift in his voice, but you didnât hesitate. Because of course you didnât. You trusted him.
Your fingers slid into his, warm and soft, and Sebastian nearly exhaled in relief.
Because just like that, the moment was over.
The stranger lingered for only a second longer before turning away, disappearing into the crowd.
Gone. Good.
Then you sighedâa small, quiet thing, barely noticeable over the musicâand glanced up at him, a flicker of something unreadable in your expression.
âThanks for that,â you murmured, voice lower now, more serious than it had been all night.
Sebastianâs brow furrowed slightly. âFor what?â
Your lips pressed together for a second, as if debating whether to say anything. Then, finally:
âThat guy was talking to our group earlier, too.â
Sebastianâs grip on your waist tightened, his mood immediately souring. Because how had he not noticed? How had he been sitting at that bar this whole damn time, so hyper-focused on you, so obsessed, and not seen some asshole lurking around you and the other girls? A slow, simmering anger curled in his gut.
âDid he say anything to you?â His voice was sharper than he meant it to be.
You shook your head. âJust⌠you know.â You made a vague gesture, rolling your eyes slightly. âThe usual.â
Sebastianâs jaw flexed. No, he didnât know. Because he wasnât you.
He didnât know what it was like to be someone like youâgorgeous, open, effortlessly magneticâconstantly dealing with men who thought that just because you were kind, just because you smiled, just because you laughed and danced, it meant they had a chance.
It made something dark coil inside him, something ugly. Something possessive.
He exhaled slowly through his nose, tryingâfailingâto push it down.
âDid he touch you?â he asked, voice quieter now, lower, but hard.
You blinked up at him, caught off guard by the edge in his tone.
âNo,â you said after a beat, shaking your head.
Sebastian didnât realize how much tension he had been holding until the word left your mouth. Didnât realize how furious he had been, how much his hands had itched to grab that bastard by the collar and drag him outside just for thinking he had the right to put his hands on you.
âYou donât have to look like that,â you murmured, tilting your head slightly.
Sebastian raised a brow, his smirk automatic but strained. âLike what?â
You huffed a quiet laugh, shaking your head. âLike youâre about to storm out of here and commit a felony.â
Sebastian didnât deny it.
"You should let me fight someone for you at least once," he muttered, only half-joking.
You grinned. "Oh, youâd love that, wouldnât you?"
"More than you know."
"Violence isnât the answer, Sallow," you sing-songed.
He smirked. "Itâs a good answer, though."
You shook your head, still laughing, still entirely too light while Sebastian was over here barely holding himself together. And then, just to kill him, you leaned in, pressing your forehead lightly against his chest.
"Iâm okay, Seb," you murmured.
Just like that, the anger drained from his body. Because if you werenât upset, if you werenât shaken, if you were still smiling up at him like thisâlike he was something good, something safeâthen how was he supposed to hold onto his fury?
The song slowed, the deep bass fading into the last lingering notes of the melody. The hum of conversation filled the space again, bodies shifting, moving apart, laughter rising over the murmur of the next song beginning.
Sebastian barely noticed because you were still closeâyour forehead resting against his chest, your breath warm through the thin fabric of his shirt. And just as easily as you had leaned into him, you pulled back and reached for his hand, fingers sliding against his.
âI need another drink.â
And Sebastianâwho would have followed you anywhere, who always hadâwent without question.
He let you lead him through the crowd, past shifting bodies and hushed conversation, back toward the bar where your friends had gathered, voices raised in lively debate.
Garreth was the first to notice your return, his grin downright wicked as he clocked your joined hands.
âLook who decided to grace us with their presence,â he drawled, handing Sebastian a pint of beer. âHave a nice dance?â
Sebastian ignored him, but you just rolled your eyes, releasing his hand as you slid onto a stool. âI did, actually. Whatâs all this?â
Nerida, perched beside Imelda, snorted. âTheyâre making bets on what Poppy has gotten Ominis into this time.â
You blinked. âWhere've they gone?â
âShe dragged him off about twenty minutes ago,â Imelda said, smirking over the rim of her glass. âInto one of the side rooms.â
Sebastian felt your laughter before he heard itâthe way your shoulders shook, the way you leaned slightly into his side, your warmth pressing into him once again.
âOh no,â you breathed, shaking your head. âPoor Ominis.â
Garreth grinned. âPoor Ominis?â He gestured wildly with his glass. "That man's probably having the time of his bloody life right now! In fact, Natty, I'd be more than happy toâ"
Natty cut him off with a sharp look, arching a brow. âDonât finish that sentence, Weasley.â
Nerida, still nursing her drink, smirked. âSo, what are the odds? Did she lure him in with something harmless, or is Ominis about to lose all dignity?â
âFifteen galleons says heâs getting head at this very second," Imelda said with a grin, tapping her fingers against the bar.
Garreth howled with laughter, nearly spilling his drink. âOh, Merlin, I wish I had that kind of faith in Poppy, but in public?! I don't know, Mel.â
Natty groaned, covering her face with her hands. âFor the love of Godââ
Nerida just smirked, tilting her glass toward Imelda. âBold bet. You really think Poppyâs got it in her?â
Imelda snorted. âLook, Iâm just sayingâquiet ones are always the freakiest.â
Sebastian choked on his beer.
Garreth, still grinning, wiped at his eyes. âTen galleons says she is at least getting handsy.â
âFive says heâs just standing there awkwardly while she tells him fun facts about kneazles,â Natty countered, shaking her head.
Sebastian smirked, shaking his head. âIâd put twenty on him hexing us all into oblivion if he knew what was going on right now.â
Garreth cackled. âA safe bet.â
The conversation was rapidly descending into chaos when, right on cue, Ominisâs voice cut through the noise, sharp and unimpressed.
âI hate all of you.â
The group collectively turned to see Ominis standing there, looking thoroughly unimpressed, Poppy at his side looking suspiciously pleased with herself.
Garreth, delighted, clapped his hands together. âThere he is! So⌠howâd it go, lover boy?â
Ominisâs expression darkened. âI will hex you.â
You grinned, still trying to contain your laughter. âTell us what happened, Omins.â
Ominisâs face went red. Not just a faint flushâfully red, the kind of embarrassment that spelled immediate entertainment for everyone involved. And Poppy, the absolute menace, lifted a hand to her mouth, failing miserably at stifling her laughter.
The group lost it, and Ominis looked like he wanted to die.
Garreth cackled, nearly spilling his drink as he clutched his stomach.
Nerida slammed a hand on the bar, wheezing. âOh my God."
Imelda, grinning like the devil herself, leaned forward. âRight, then. Whoâs paying up the fifteen galleons?â
Ominis exhaled sharply, dragging a hand down his face. âI swear to Merlin, if one more person so much as suggestsââ
Garreth clapped him on the back, grinning wildly. âSo, thatâs a no on the getting head, then?â
Ominisâs expression darkened so fast it was almost impressive, but before he could truly commit to murder, Neridaâever the peacemakerâtilted her head toward the back corner of the bar.
âAlright, alrightâbefore Ominis does something irreversible, whoâs up for a round of pool?â
This was met with general agreementâmostly because the alcohol was settling in enough that no one felt like sitting still anymore.
Sebastian, still thoroughly amused, tipped back the rest of his drink before pushing away from the bar, waiting for you to follow.
And you did. Of course you did.
In fact, Sebastian was pleasedâvery pleasedâwhen you stuck by his side for the rest of the evening.
You could have easily wandered off, flitted between groups, danced again. But instead, you leaned against the table, sipping your drink, laughing at Garrethâs terrible pool skills, rolling your eyes at Imeldaâs trash talk, nudging Sebastian with your hip whenever he made a particularly cocky shot.
It was good.
The night stretched on in a golden haze, full of too much laughter, too many drinks, and the kind of warm, buzzing atmosphere that made it far too easy to forget that the outside world existed at all.
Except.
Sebastian noticedâdrunkenly, hazily, slowly noticedâthat something was off.
It wasnât obvious, but it was there nonetheless. The girls were still laughing, still drinking, still teasing them mercilessly over every terrible shot at pool. But they werenât leaving. And that was weird.
Because usuallyâafter enough drinks, after enough gamesâthe girls always migrated. Theyâd get bored of pool, tired of darts, and drift off to dance, or find a quieter table to sit at and gossip.
But not tonight. Tonight, they were sticking close.
Poppy, usually the first to suggest another round on the dance floor, was still here, sitting comfortably at Ominis's side, chatting animatedly with Natty while Garreth ordered them drinks.
Nerida and Imelda, who normally found excuses to disappear for a bit, were locked in an intense conversation while still staying within view of everyone else.
And you were still beside him.
And maybe it was the whiskey. Maybe it was the way the room had tilted slightly when he stood up earlier. But Sebastianâs brain, slow and sluggish, finally caught up to the creeping thought that had been lurking in the background since you'd danced with him.
Was it because of him? That man from earlier?
Sebastian turned his head slightly, scanning the bar. He hadnât thought about him in hours, but now that he was... where the hell did he go?
Sebastianâs fingers tightened around his drink, a slow, simmering anger curling back into his gut. Because if youâand the othersâhad been sticking close all night, had been keeping within reach of them instead of doing what you usually didâŚ
Then what did that mean? Had that bastard scared you?
But thenâ
âSeb?â
Your voice cut through the haze, your fingers curling around his wrist, tugging lightly. He turned, and whatever dark, brooding thoughts had been creeping into his mind vanished.
Because fuck, you were drunk. Not messy, not too far gone, but just enough. Your eyes were hazy with warmth, your grin lopsided, and when you pulled him slightly closer, there was the faintest slur in your words.
You swayed slightly. âDâyou wanna sit? Mâlegs feel all⌠floaty.â
And just like that, Sebastian forgot about everything else. The man. The unease. The lingering feeling that something was wrong. Because now? Now he was only looking at you.
You, standing just a little too close, your body warm with alcohol, your hair a little mussed, your expression soft.
You, blinking up at him, wide-eyed, lips parted like you were trying to work through whatever lazy, meandering thought had just slipped into your mind.
Sebastian smirked, setting his drink down. âThose cocktails stronger than you thought?â
You huffed, swaying slightly as you nudged his arm. âSo much stronger.â
Sebastian barely bit back a laugh. âLightweight.â
You gasped, clutching your chest dramatically. âHow dareââ
Sebastian grinned, wrapping an arm around your shoulders before you could wobble too much.
âCome on, sweetheart,â he murmured, guiding you toward one of the plush loveseats behind the pool table. âLetâs get you off those floaty legs.â
You hummed, leaning into him a little too easily, like it was natural, like this was where you belonged. And fuck, if that wasnât a dangerous thought.
Sebastian exhaled slowly, guiding you down before sitting beside you, letting his arm rest along the back of the chair, leaving just enough room for you to lean into him if you wanted to.
You let out a small hum, tilting your head back slightly to look at him, eyes half-lidded, hazy with alcohol. Thenâout of nowhereâyou reached for his hand.
Sebastian blinked, watching, completely dumbfounded, as you grabbed his wrist, pulling his palm toward yours. You pressed your hand flat against his, comparing sizes, your fingers barely reaching the first knuckle of his own.
And you beamed.
âMerlin,â you murmured, like you were discovering something truly profound, flexing your fingers against his. âWhy are your hands so big?â
Sebastian swallowed hard, staring at the sight of your palm against his, at the way your much smaller fingers curled slightly around his own.
He barely found his voice. âDunno. Why are yours so small?â
You giggled, tilting your head at him. âDâyou think if I had big hands, Iâd be better at pool?â
Sebastian huffed a laugh, his chest tight. âYouâre already better than Garreth. No changes necessary.â
You gasped dramatically. âPoor Garreth.â
âHe deserves it.â
You snorted, then curled your fingers between his, lacing them loosely together. Just resting there. Just holding. Sebastian nearly blacked out.
You didnât even seem to realize what you were doing, just looked down at your intertwined hands with an easy, alcohol-softened smile before shifting again, tucking yourself even closer into his side.
âYou always smell nice, too."
Always. That meant youâd noticed before. You noticed him.
Sebastian forced himself to clear his throat, trying for something casualâsomething to keep from absolutely combusting.
âYeah?â he murmured. âWhat do I smell like?â
You didnât even hesitate.
âLikeâŚâ Your brows scrunched slightly, like you were trying to pinpoint it exactly. âSomething warm. Like... like⌠cinnamon. And cloves. And something kind of⌠smoky? But not in a bad way. Just⌠cozy.â
Sebastian was about to die. Right here. Right fucking here, in this speakeasy, drunk with you pressed against him, completely unaware that you were absolutely wrecking him. And then, because you werenât done ruining his life, you sighed. All content and pleased and nestled against his side like you belonged there, like this was normal, like you werenât setting his entire fucking world on fire.
âAnd youâre always so warm,â you murmured.
Sebastianâs throat bobbed as he forced something out.
âYou cold?â he asked, trying to sound unaffected.
You hummed, nuzzling slightly into his shoulder. âNot anymore.â
Sebastian was dangerously close to losing his mind, and he needed a distraction. Immediately.
âSo,â he said, shifting slightly, trying to ignore how easily your body moved with his, âsince I did such a terrible job listening last time, how about another speakeasy lesson?â
You perked up instantly, blinking at him in adorable surprise, then huffed, amused. âOh, so now youâre interested?â
Sebastian smirked. âFigured I should at least pretend to be an attentive student.â
You rolled your eyes, shifting slightly in your seat to face him betterâthough, in your drunken state, that mostly meant you leaned even more into his side.
âWell,â you began, slipping into a more thoughtful tone, âlike I was saying before you zoned out completely, speakeasies got their name because people had to speak easyâkeep their voices down so they wouldnât get caught.â
Sebastian nodded like this was brand new information, even though he vaguely remembered you mentioning it earlier. Meanwhile, you draped your arms over your lap, tilting your head against the back of the loveseat as you spoke, your words a little slower, your thoughts a little more meandering.
âBut whatâs funny,â you continued, your finger tracing absentminded circles against the fabric of your dress, âis that even though the entire point was secrecy, some speakeasies were huge. Like, big bands, huge dance floors, completely over-the-top. They wanted the allure, the glamour, yâknow?â
Sebastian did not know.
Because he was too busy watching the way your lips moved around your words, the way your lashes fluttered when you got lost in a thought, the way your entire body seemed to sway slightly with the rhythm of your own storytelling.
This was not helping his situation.
At all.
âSo some of them werenât hidden?â he asked, if only to remind himself to keep his brain functional.
You shook your head, a little slower than usual. âNot really. Like, technically, you still had to know someone to get in. They had passwords, secret entrances⌠but everyone knew where they were.â
Sebastian hummed, watching the way you twirled a loose strand of hair around your finger. âSo what youâre saying,â he mused, smirking, âis that criminals are just show-offs?â
You snorted, rolling your head to the side to look at him. âThatâs what you took from that?â
He grinned. âAm I wrong?â
You sighed dramatically, shaking your head. âNo, youâre not wrong, but historically speakingââ
Sebastian could have stayed here forever. You, curled into his side, talking about some random bit of history youâd read in a book. Your voice laced with alcohol, your words a little softer, a little slower, but still so full of excitement. It was so easy. So perfect.
His fingers absentmindedly played with the hem of your dress, twirling the soft material between his fingertips, completely absorbed in the warmth of the moment, in the way you looked at him, in the wayâ
Then you let out a heavy sigh, shifting against him.
âI need to break the seal,â you muttered, groaning dramatically.
Sebastian blinked, momentarily thrown from his thoughts.
You pouted, stretching slightly as you tilted your head toward him. âI have to pee,â you clarified. âAnd I donât wanna move.â
Sebastian chuckled, shaking his head. âThat is a tragedy.â
You groaned, snuggling further into the cushions, making no move to actually get up. âUgh, this sucks. I'm so comfy.â
He nudged you lightly. âGo on, love, I'll be right here when you get back.â
You whined, literally whined, before finally, reluctantly pushing yourself up. You stretched as you stoodâyour dress shifting dangerously as you straightened yourselfâand Sebastian was definitely not looking. Not at the way your dress shifted up the curve of your thighs, not at the way your arms lifted over your head, making every inch of you somehow even more tempting.
Nope.
He was absolutely looking straight ahead, nowhere near you.
But as you turned awayâtaking slow, slightly unsteady stepsâsomething in his chest twisted. Not the usual ache, the fuck-Iâm-in-love-with-her feeling heâd been drowning in all night.
Something else. Something wrong.
He tried to shake it, tried to tell himself it was just the drinks, just his dumb possessive instincts making him hyperaware of you.
But still.
His smirk faltered slightly as he watched you make your way toward the washrooms.
It wasnât far. Just across the lounge, past a few tables, through a hallway.
But still.
Sebastian shifted in his seat, his foot tapping idly against the floor. Youâd be back in a few minutes. Everything was fine.
Except it wasnât.
Sebastian knew it the second too much time passed.
At first, he kept himself distracted, letting Garreth and Imelda pull him into their bickering over pool shots, letting Ominis make dry, unimpressed comments about their collective lack of skill. Sebastian nursed his drink, felt the warmth of the alcohol hum through his veins, tried to tell himself you were just taking your time.
But then a song ended. And another. And you still werenât back.
Sebastianâs fingers tapped against the rim of his glass, his brows pinching slightly.
Then he checked the time. And the wrongness that had been sitting, low and uneasy, in his chest all night curled tighter.
He straightened in his seat, setting his drink down, his entire body suddenly too alert.
It was fine. You were fine.
Maybe youâd just gotten distracted. Maybe you were reapplying your lipstick, or fixing your hair, orâ
No. No, something was wrong. And suddenly, Sebastian wasnât drunk anymore.
He didnât hesitate. Didnât think. Just moved, ignoring the way the others glanced at him in mild confusion.
âBe right back,â he muttered, already walking away.
His heart picked up speed as he cut across the bar, past the lounge, weaving through groups of people, gaze sharp as he scanned the room.
The hallway to the washrooms was dimly lit, tucked just slightly away from the main bar, just enough that it made something uncomfortable roll through his stomach.
He stepped into the corridor, his footfalls suddenly too loud in the muffled quiet. The wrongness in his gut went from unease to something razor-sharp.
Where were you?
Sebastian glanced toward the entrance to the womenâs washroom, waitingâlisteningâfor any sign of you. Nothing.
His jaw clenched. His fingers twitched at his sides. He turned his headâ
And froze.
Just past the corner of the hallway, tucked slightly out of view, a sound. A muffled whimper. Quiet. Shaky. Then a voice. Low. Murmuring. Unfamiliar.
Sebastianâs fingers curled into fists, he rounded the corner so fast he nearly slammed into the wall, and there you were.
Pressed against a door, your shoulders curled inward, hands shaking as you tried to push him away. Your dress, torn at the strap. That manâhis hands on you, gripping your waist, his body too close, his breath hot against your ear as he murmured something low, coaxing, like he was trying to convince you, like you werenât already crying.
Sebastianâs mind went blank. One second, the bastard was pressed up against you, gripping you like he had any fucking right, and the nextâ
Crack.
The man hit the opposite wall, hard, eyes blown wide as he let out a stunned, choked gasp, lip split and bleeding.
Sebastian was already on him.
His fist caught the bastardâs shirt, dragging him forward, shoving him so hard the walls rattled.
Sebastian was breathing too fast, seeing too much, his pulse roaring in his ears. The man let out a pained groan, hands grabbing at Sebastianâs wrist.
âHeyââ
Sebastian slammed him back again.
âYou think you can touch her?â His voice was low, deadly, his face so close that the bastard flinched.
âShe was asking for it,â the man spat, mouth bloody, words slurred. âDidnât say no, just got shyââ
Sebastian snapped. His fist came down hardâone, twoâagainâ
âHow fucking dare you?â
The man gasped, wheezing, hands scrambling to stop him.
Sebastian was going to kill him. Was going to beat him into the fucking floor.
And then a hand. Light. Shaking. Fingers curling around his arm.
âSebastian?â
Soft. Trembling.
Sebastianâs lungs seized. He turned his head, still breathing hard, still shaking. And fuckâ
Tears streaked down your cheeks, your lip trembling, your eyes too wide, too stunned, too afraid.
Sebastianâs stomach dropped. His grip tightened for a breath, then, with a sharp, ragged exhale, he let go.
The man hit the floor hard, scrambling back on his hands, panting, nose crooked.
Sebastian didnât even look at him. Because youâ
You were still standing there, your hands clutching your torn dress, fingers shaking, chest rising too fast, breath uneven.
Sebastian felt sick.
And then voices. Footsteps. A sudden surge of noise as the dim corridor flooded with people.
Sebastian barely turned in time to see Ominis, Garreth, Natty, Imelda, Nerida, Poppyâthe whole groupârounding the corner at full speed.
Garrethâs face twisted into something Sebastian had never seen before, his usual easy demeanor vanishing as he took one look at you, then the man on the floor, then Sebastianâstill fuming, still shaking, still breathing too fastâand understood immediately.
Natty sucked in a sharp breath.
Nerida froze.
Poppy clamped a hand over her mouth, eyes wide and horrified.
Imeldaâs knuckles cracked from how hard she clenched her fists.
And Ominisâ
Ominis, usually the calmest among them, took one step forward, and his voice came out cold. âWhat the fuck happened?â
Sebastian didnât answer. Couldnât. His throat was too tight. You hadnât moved.
Then another voice, unfamiliar, but undeniably authoritative.
âOut. Now.â
Sebastian turned his head to see the bouncers push through the group.
One of them grabbed the man by the collar, yanking him up by the collar of his shirt. The bastard let out a choked noise.
âYouâre done,â the bouncer growled, dragging him toward the exit. âGet the fuck out of here.â
The man spluttered, voice slurred from his split lip. âIââ
âShut the fuck up.â
Sebastian watched. Watched as the man who had his hands on you got ripped away, thrown out like trash, shoved into the night where he fucking belonged.
And yet Sebastian still wasnât breathing right. Still wasnât calm. Because you were still shaking, stillâ
âWeâre leaving.â
Ominis.
His voice was sharp, leaving no room for argument. Sebastian nodded automatically. They all did.
The group moved quickly, no hesitation, no time for words as they all started toward the door, the bouncers giving them a wide path through the crowd.
Sebastian barely noticed the murmured whispers around them. All he noticed was you. Still silent, still staring down, still breathing too fast.
The cold air outside hit like a shock, cutting through the drunken haze that had lingered over the night.
Sebastian barely felt it, but the moment the chill hit, you shivered violently. Ominis moved instinctively, shrugging off his jacket in one smooth motion.
âHere.â His voice was still tight, still controlled, but softer than before.
But when he stepped forward, offering itâ
You flinched. Sharp. Instinctive.
And Sebastianâwatching it all unfoldâfelt something deep inside him break.
Because it wasnât just anyone you flinched from. It was Ominis. One of your closest friends. The gentlest, kindest, least-threatening person you knew. And if you recoiled from himâ
Sebastian swallowed hard, his throat tight as the entire group went silent, the weight of it suffocating.
Ominis stilled, his fingers tightening ever so slightly around the fabric of his jacket before he pulled back, his face unreadable, his mouth pressing into a thin line.
He didnât speak. Didnât try again. Just exhaled slowly, fingers twitching once before he let his arms drop to his sides.
Poppy, who had always been the most gentle of them, shifted half a step toward you, lips parted like she wanted to say somethingâbut stopped herself. Because she saw it, too.
You werenât just shaking. You were wrapped up inside yourself, arms clutched around your middle, shoulders drawn in tight, like you wanted to disappear.
Sebastianâs chest ached. He didnât know what the fuck to do. Didnât know how to fix this. Didnât know how to make the world feel safe for you again.
He wanted to grab you, hold you, whisper that he would never let anyone touch you againâbut he couldnât. Because what if you flinched from him, too?
Ominisâalways steady, always rationalâwas the first to move.
"Let's go, we need to get off the main street," he said, voice measured, composedâbut there was something else beneath it. Something tightly wound.
No one argued. The group moved as one, huddled close, protective.
Imelda and Nerida flanked either side of you like an unspoken shield, while Natty and Poppy stuck close behind.
Garreth, for once, was silent, his face set in a rare, grim seriousness as he cast sharp glances at every single person still lingering outside the club, as if daring someone to look at you wrong.
And Sebastian stayed right in front of you, hands curled into fists, jaw aching from how tight he had clenched it.
Together, they moved toward the nearest side street, somewhere quieter, somewhere out of the open. Only once they were tucked into the dimly lit alleyway, far from the club and the weight of watching eyes, did Ominis finally speak again.
"Whoâs flat is closest?"
"Mine," Sebastian said instantly.
That wasn't technically true.
Natty and Garrethâs place was closerâobjectively the better option. If this had been any other night, any other situation, logic would have dictated the choice. But logic didnât mean shit right now.
Not that anyone protested. Because of course it was going to be Sebastian. Of course he was the one taking you home.
Garreth let out a slow breath, dragging a hand through his hair. "Right. Letâs get you a cab, then."
"Fuck that," Sebastian muttered. "Iâll Apparate."
That stopped everyone in their tracks.
Ominis immediately frowned. "Sebastian, weâre in Muggle Londonâ"
"I donât give a shit." His voice came out sharp, barely restrained. "Iâm not making her sit in some goddamn cab, not afterâ" He cut himself off, exhaling hard, trying to shove down the fresh wave of anger clawing at his throat.
It was the last thing you needed right now.
The group exchanged uneasy glances.
Apparition was dangerous under the best circumstancesâlet alone when he was like this, let alone when you were like this. Not to mention, doing magic in a heavily populated Muggle area was risky as hell.
But fuck that. He wasnât going to make you wait. Wasnât going to let you sit through some excruciatingly long cab ride, squirming in silence, trapped in a moving metal box.
No. He was getting you out of here. Now.
Natty stepped forward, voice level. "Sebastian."
He clenched his jaw. "Natty, I swear toâ"
"Sebastian."
She was stepping in front of you now, her dark eyes steady, sharp, cutting through the thick, suffocating tension like a blade.
Sebastian knew that look.
Natty had always been practicalâcalm, calculated, always thinking a step ahead. And right now, she was looking at him like she was measuring him, like she was assessing him.
"You're not going anywhere with her," she said, her voice even, "unless she wants to go with you."
Sebastianâs jaw tightened. His gut reaction was to be offended. To snap that of course you wanted to go with him, because who else would it be?
But Nattyâs expression didnât change. Didnât waver. Because this wasnât about him. This wasnât about what he thought, what he wanted, what he was sure of. This was about you, and whether you still felt safe with him.
Sebastian swallowed hard. The thought that you might not be wrecked him, made his stomach twist, made his ribs feel like they were caving in.
The idea that youâhis everythingâmight not want to be anywhere near him right now. Might not trust him. Might not even be able to look at him after what had just happened. But if that was what you needed then he wouldnât fight it. Wouldnât blame you. Wouldnât say a damn word.
Sebastian nodded, and Natsai turned to you slowly, her movements deliberate, careful. Her voice softened, but still held its steady, grounding weight.
"Do you want to go with him?"
A moment passed. Sebastian held his breath.
Then you nodded. It was small, barely more than a twitch of your chin, but it was everything.
Sebastian exhaled, something sharp and unbearable unwinding in his chest. He stepped forward, slowly, his movements deliberate, careful.
Held out his hand and waited.
Your fingers trembled, but you reached for him, sliding your palm into loosely into his.
"Ring us when... when you have a minute," Ominis said, his voice level, steadyâbut heavy. There was something unspoken in it, something Sebastian understood immediately.
Sebastian nodded once. No words. No drawn-out goodbyes. He didnât have it in him.
Then, without another thoughtâhe turned on the spot, pulling you with him.
The world twisted. The sharp pull of Apparition coiled around his ribs, wrenching them through the dark, untilâ
Home.
Sebastianâs flat was silent. Dark. The shift from the crowded club to the emptiness of his space was jarring.
For a long moment, neither of you moved. The only sound was your breathing. Uneven. Shallow. Sebastianâs stomach twisted.
His hand was still wrapped around yours, and he didnât want to let go, but after a second, he forced himself to loosen his grip. A silent offering. A choice. And after a beat, you pulled away.
Sebastian felt it like a wound. The warmth of your skin slipped from his grasp, and the absence of it left something hollow in his chest.
But he didnât react. Didnât move. Didnât let it show. Because this wasnât about him.
He unsure of what to do now, though. How to talk to you, what he was even supposed to say. He felt like he was balancing on the edge of something sharp, a thin, precarious line between giving you space and giving you what you neededâexcept he didnât know what you needed.
So, he did the only thing he could think to do.
âCome on,â he murmured, voice hoarse, heavy. âLet's sit you down. Get you comfortable.â
He turned toward the living room, motioning toward the couch as he moved. âIâllââ He cleared his throat, swallowing hard. âIâll get you something else to wear.â
But before he could take more than two steps, you shook your head.
Sebastian hesitated. âYou donâtââ
âIâll go with you,â you murmured.
Your voice was quiet. Unsteady. But certain.
Sebastian blinked, thrown off. He didnât understand. You had to be exhausted, had to be drained, and the couch was right there, waiting.
But you werenât moving toward it. You were waiting for him. And something in your expressionâsomething small, something subtleâmade the words click in his mind.
You didnât want to be alone.
He swallowed hard then nodded. "Okay, come on.â
When he turned toward his bedroom, you followed.
The door creaked as he pushed it open, stepping inside first, letting you follow at your own pace.
Sebastianâs room was⌠messy. Books stacked haphazardly on his nightstand, a half-open wardrobe in the corner, a few stray clothes abandoned on the chair near the window.
He ignored it all. Went straight for the dresser.
He rifled through the drawers, trying to find something soft, something comfortable. Something that wouldnât remind you of tonight, that wouldnât feel like a weight pressing against your skin.
A worn sweater. Sweatpants. That would work.
He turned, holding them out for you. âHere.â
You hesitated. You werenât looking at him. Your gaze was down, locked on the clothes in his hands like you werenât sure what to do with them.
He softened his voice. "If you want something else, just say the word.â
Then, quietly, almost too soft to hear.
âCan you... will you help me?â
Sebastian stilled. For a second, he wasnât sure heâd heard you right.
Help you?
His first instinct was confusion. Youâd flinched from Ominis outside. You hadnât wanted him near you. Hadnât wanted to be touched. After what happened, Sebastian had assumed youâd want privacy, that you wouldnât want to be seen at all.
But then he looked at you, really looked at you, and he understood.
Maybe, right now, this wasnât about not wanting to be touched. Maybe it was that you didn't want to touch it. Didnât want to unfasten the dress yourself, didnât want to peel the fabric from your skin, didnât want to register the places it had been touched, gripped, pulled by someone who had no fucking right.
Sebastian exhaled, slow and careful, schooling his expression into something even.
âOkay,â he murmured. âTurn around for me?â
You hesitated for a moment, fingers trembling where you clutched the hem of the sweater heâd handed you. But then you did, shifting slightly, your back to him.
Sebastian took a slow step closer, hands hovering just behind your shoulders, giving you the chance to change your mind.
But you didnât move away.
So he gently, carefully, reached for the zipper at your back.
And fuck, heâd imagined this before. Ten thousand times, maybe more. Peeling the layers off you slowly, seeing what was underneath, watching the fabric slip down the curves of your body. His hands, his, mapping the warmth of your skin as he uncovered inch after inch, drinking in the sight of you like heâd been starving for it.
But thisâthis wasnât like that.
This was the first time he had ever done this, maybe the only time he ever would if he didn't get his shit together, and the circumstances were so utterly, sickeningly wrong that it made his chest feel hollow.
He wasnât looking at you with desire. He wasnât seeing the expanse of your skin the way he would have if things had been different.
Seeing you like this just hurt.
The fabric was still warm from your body, but that wasnât what made his stomach twist. It was the broken strap, the torn seam, the evidence of what had happenedâof what he hadnât been able to stop sooner.
Slowly, he dragged the zipper down.
The dress loosened, slipping slightly off your shoulders, the weight of it threatening to pull away completelyâand for a second, he panicked, his brain scrambling to make sure he wasnât making this worse for you, that he wasnât exposing more than you were comfortable withâbut you stayed still.
So, with a deep breath and slow, careful movements, he tugged the dress down, guiding it past your arms, your waist, your hips. The fabric slipped easily, pooling at your feet.
His stomach twisted. Seeing it like thisâabandoned, discardedâit felt like something sick and wrong. Because that dress had looked so fucking beautiful on you. Had clung to you like a dream, had made him ache. Had made him stare.
And now... now, it was nothing but a reminder of what happened.
âStep out of it, love,â he murmured, voice low and gentle despite the ache in his chest.
You obeyed, lifting one foot, then the other.
Sebastian grabbed the discarded fabric from the floor and tossed it far awayâout of sight, across the room, like it didnât deserve to be near you.
Then he picked up the sweatpants from the bed.
"Step in," he murmured.
You did. The sweater came next.
"Arms up for me."
You obeyed again, and he tugged the sweater over your head, guiding it gently over your arms, down your torso, covering you, shielding you from whatever still lingered on your skin.
The moment it was on, Sebastian exhaled deeply.
"All done."
You let out a breath. A slow, shaky thing. Then, for the first time since entering his flat, you met his gaze.
And Sebastian felt his chest cave in. Because you still looked so shaken. Still looked wrecked. But the difference was, you were here now. Fully.
"Thank you."
Your voice was small. Quiet. But present.
He swallowed hard, forcing down the unbearable ache in his chest. âYeah,â he murmured. âOf course.â
You shifted slightly, like you wanted to say something else, but the words didnât come. Instead, your arms wrapped around yourself, small, like you were still trying to make yourself disappear.
Sebastianâs hands curled into fists. He wanted to touch you. Wanted to reach out, wanted to pull you into his chest and hold you there until the shaking stopped.
But he didnât. Not yet.
So, instead, he exhaled carefully, ran a hand through his hair, and nodded toward the doorway. âCome on,â he said, voice softer now. âLet me make you some tea.â
You blinked at him, like the thought hadnât even occurred to you. But after a second, you nodded.
So, he turned, leading you back into the dimly lit apartment, moving toward the kitchen. And you followed. Because you still trusted him.
Sebastian pulled open the cabinet and reached for your mugâthe oversized one printed with tiny blue flowers, the one you always used when you visited. It had been a birthday gift from him last year, and after unwrapping it, youâd immediately set it in his cupboard and said, This one stays here.
He set it down on the counter and filled the kettle, flipping the switch with the practiced ease of routine. Something about the motion, the normalcy of it, settled the restless tension in his chest.
His hands worked on autopilotâpulling down the tin of loose tea, measuring out just the right amount, stirring in the fixings the way you liked. Far too much sugar and milk for his taste, but he didnât hesitate, mixing it the exact way you always did.
By the time he turned around and pressed the mug into your hands, steam curling between you, he finally caught the way your fingers trembled as you curled them around the ceramic.
And thenâsoft, broken, barely above a whisperâ
âIâm sorry.â
Sebastian went completely still, something sharp, something furious, coiling in his chest.
âWhat?â
Your gaze dropped, staring into the depths of your tea. âIâI donât know. Just for all of this. For ruining your night. Forââ
âDonât.â
He took the mug from your hands, just for a moment, long enough to force you to look at him. His brows furrowed, his mouth tight, like the words physically hurt to say aloud.
âYou donât apologize. Not for this. Not to anyone.â
You swallowed, hard, but you didnât look away.
âThis wasnât your fault,â he said, voice quieter now, but no less fierce, his grip tightening briefly around the handle of your mug before handing it back. âNot one single fucking bit of it. Do you understand?â
You hesitated, like you werenât sure you could understand. And fuck, that made something ugly rise in his throat.
Sebastian had never felt anger like thisâlike something helpless and raging, burning at the back of his skull, at the hollow space in his chest where you had been hurt and he hadnât been there to stop it.
You sniffled, swiping your sleeve across your eyes, shaking your head like you were mad at yourself. âI shouldâveââ Your voice was thick, strained. âI shouldâve pushed him away harder. Been more assertive. Asked one of the other girls to come to the bathroom with me, orâor been more aware, or not drank so much, orââ
âStop.â
You shook your head again, watery, miserable. âI justââ
âNo.â His voice was hard, unyielding. âThis wasn't your fault, there's no magic combination of things you could have done differently to make someone else not be a fucking piece of shit. It wouldnât have mattered, because he's still a monster. And youââ His voice softened, just a fraction, his chest aching. âYou did nothing wrong.â
You swallowed, throat bobbing.
âIt wasnât even that bad.â
Sebastianâs chest tightened.
You let out a wet, unsteady laugh, shaking your head. âIt couldâve been worse. I justâ I just froze because of Tyler.â
The second the words were out of your mouth, Sebastian saw itâthe way your face froze, the way your lips parted slightly, like you hadnât meant to say that. Like you wished you could take it back.
But it was too late.
Sebastianâs brain snapped back to a year ago.
The breakup.
How you had shown up at his door, quiet and withdrawn, a forced little smile on your lips as you told him your relationship was over. No details. No explanation. Just done.
How he had asked if you were okay, and you had nodded, too quickly, and said you didnât want to talk about it.
And heâd let it go. Because you always told him things when you were ready. But nowânow he was seeing it, the way your shoulders curled inward, the way you were smaller, like you wanted to disappear.
And something inside him snapped.
What the fuck had happened back then?
He exhaled through his nose, sharp and controlled. âTell me,â he said, voice low, but steady.
You blinked. âWhat?â
âTell me what happened. Please.â
You hesitated, curling your hands around the mug like it was the only thing keeping you tethered. âItâs notââ You swallowed, eyes darting away. âItâs not important.â
Sebastianâs jaw clenched. âDonât do that.â
âDo what?â
âMinimize it.â His voice came out rougher than he meant, but he couldnât help it. âI need to know, love.â
At the nickname, your fingers tightened around the mug, just slightly. You opened your mouth, then closed it. Sebastian waited.
Heâd wait all fucking night if he had to.
And then, finally, you exhaled a slow, shuddering breath. âIt was at a party,â you murmured, not looking at him. âIâI donât know why I froze tonight. It wasnât even the same. Not really. I just⌠the moment he grabbed me, I was back there.â
Sebastian hated how softly, how passively you said it. Like it wasnât something that had haunted you. Like it wasnât something that still had its fucking claws in you.
He didnât move, didnât speak, didnât push, because you were still talking, and if you stopped, he didnât know when youâd let yourself say these words again.
âI told him no,â you whispered. âTyler. I told him I didnât want to go upstairs with him, that I was tired. But he keptââ You broke off, shaking your head. âHe just kept talking, kept trying to get me to change my mind. And I justâI shut down. I just let him. I didnât fight, I didnâtââ
Sebastian couldnât take it anymore.
âI swear to God,â he said, voice hoarse, pained, âif you say you shouldâve done something differently, Iâm going to lose my fucking mind.â
Your throat bobbed, eyes flicking up to his.
âHe was supposed to stop," Sebastian insisted. "Thatâs it. Thatâs the only thing that was supposed to happen.â
You just stared at him, wide-eyed, like you werenât sure youâd heard him right. Like no one had ever said it to you so plainly before. And then, finally, you spokeâso softly, so small.
âBut I let him.â
Sebastianâs hands curled into fists. âNo,â he said, voice firm, unwavering. âYou didnât.â
He exhaled sharply, trying to steady himself, trying to say the right thing, because fuck, he couldnât mess this up.
âIf someone keeps pushing, keeps coaxing, keeps pulling you in when youâve already said noâyou didnât let them. They took advantage of you.â
The words sat heavy between you, and Sebastian saw the way they hit you. Your grip on the mug went white-knuckled, a sharp inhale cutting through the air, and then you were crying.
Silent at firstâjust the shake of your shoulders, just the quiver in your lips. But then your breath shuddered, and your face crumpled, and the first broken sob escaped.
Sebastian stood there, feeling useless. Helpless.
Should he reach for you? Should he give you space? Did you want to be touched, or would it only make things worse? His hands hovered, twitching at his sides, unsure. And fuck, he hated it. Hated not knowing what to do, hated feeling like he was just standing here while you broke apart in front of him.
But thenâ
You set the mug down too quickly, tea sloshing over the rim, spilling onto the counter, and Sebastian barely had time to react before you collapsed into him.
His breath hitched, his arms automatically wrapping around you as you buried yourself against his chest, shaking, small.
And then he wasnât thinking anymore. He just held you. Tightly. Protectively.
One arm wrapped firm around your back, the other cradling your head, fingers threading gently into your hair, like maybe if he held you close enough, it would put you back together.
Your fingers fisted into his shirt, and Sebastian closed his eyes, exhaling shakily against the crown of your head.
What the fuck do I say?
What words could he possibly put together that would make any of this better? He quickly realized there were none.
So he didnât speak.
Didnât try to fill the silence with meaningless reassurances, didnât tell you to calm down, didnât tell you it would be okay. Instead, he just held you, strong and steady, like a wallâone you could press into, lean against, fall apart against.
Your breathing was uneven, shaky against his chest. Each sharp inhale like it was trying to hold back the flood.
Sebastian pressed his cheek to your hair, gentle, careful. âI got you,â he murmured, voice raw. âI got you.â
You let out a sound, a soft, aching thing, half a sob, half relief, as the tension in your shoulders cracked, your weight fully sinking into him, like youâd been trying to hold yourself up all this time and just couldnât anymore.
âI got you,â he whispered again, like maybe, if he said it enough times, youâd believe him.
You stood there for a long time. You didnât pull away, and Sebastian didn't let go. He would have stood there all night if you needed him to.
The tea sat abandoned on the counter, growing cold, the soft hum of the refrigerator filling the air while the kitchen clock ticked away the minutes.
Your breathingâragged at first, gasping, unevenâ slowly, so slowly, steadied, fading into quiet sniffles. And that was when Sebastian finally moved. Carefully.
He slid one arm under your legs, the other holding you steady against him. âUp we go, love.â
You let out a soft noise of surprise as he scooped you up, pressing your face instinctively against his shoulder.
âYou donâtââ
âShushâ he murmured gently, affectionately, and you didnât fight him as he carried you across the room, lowering you onto the couch.
But the moment he tried to pull back, your fingers tightened in his shirt again.
Sebastian obeyed, sitting down and letting you tuck yourself against him, curling into his chest. His arms wound around you again, warm and solid. His hand moved instinctively to your hair, fingers slipping through the strands, slow, soothing strokes.
It had always been this easy, hadnât it?
Sebastian wasnât sure how long you both stayed like that. Long enough that your breathing evened out. Long enough that his own heart stopped pounding with anger and ache.
And then, after a long silenceâyour voice, quiet, hesitant:
âIâve been stupid.â
Sebastianâs brows furrowed. âDonâtââ
Your hand shot up, pressing lightly against his mouth, and whatever Sebastian had been about to say died instantly.
His breath caught. His lips parted slightly against your palm, startled, thrown completely off balance. But it wasnât the touch that had him frozen.
It was your eyes.
Raw. Red-rimmed from crying, but so fucking clear. Like you had figured something outâlike whatever had been sitting between you for so long, uncertain and unspoken, was now suddenly blindingly obvious.
â...You know I love you, don't you?â
Sebastian froze.
He did know. At least, sort of.
Heâd always known you loved him as your best friend, as your constant, as the one person you always turned to. He had felt it in the way you sought him out first in a crowded room, in the way you always made one too many cups of tea just in case he wanted one. He had seen it in the way you looked at him when you thought he wasnât paying attention, in the way your hand lingered when you touched him.
But he didn't know if you loved him as more.
Of course, he'd imagined your confession the late hours of the night, when exhaustion blurred the edges of his thoughts. In the quiet spaces between glances, in the way his chest always felt too full when you laughed. In the way he always waited for you to arrive at his door.
But he always imagined hearing those words for the first time in a moment of joy, in the golden hush of a summer afternoon, in the warmth of a stolen moment where nothing hurt, nothing felt too heavy.
His throat bobbed. âYouâare you sayingââ
But the words felt too big, too heavy.
You huffed a laugh, sniffling softly as a stray tear rolled down your cheek. âI was so stupid. Maybe if I had just told you how I felt, if I had justââ
Sebastian cupped your cheek before you could finish your sentence, his palm warm and steady against your tear-streaked skin.
His mind was racing, his chest too full, his breath caught somewhere between disbelief and something so fierce, so all-consuming, so fucking relieved that it almost hurt.
Because you meant it. You loved him. Not just as his best friend. Not just as his constant. But as something more.
He searched your face, memorizing everythingâthe way your lashes were still damp, the way your lips parted slightly, the way your breath trembled under his touch.
And fuck, he didnât know what to say.
He hadnât been ready for you this moment to happen like this. Not when your voice was still raw from crying. Not when your hands still shook in your lap. Not when he had spent the last hour trying to piece you back together after something that should have never happened. Not when you deserved so much better than this moment.
He couldn't stop his mind from imagining what this would have been like if things had been different.
If tonight had just been another night.
If you had just come over, curled up with him like you always did, nudged your socked feet against his under a blanket, laughed at something stupid on TV. If he had turned to you and just fucking said it, just let it be easy.
But it wasnât easy.
And yet, his the words left his mouth in a breath, like they had been waiting there, like they had been sitting at the back of his throat for years, clawing at his ribs, aching to be spoken. Because they had.
"Fuck, I love you too."
And the second they were outâ
Relief.
Like something had cracked open inside him, something tight and suffocating finally letting go, leaving his chest too light and too full all at once. Because it was the truest thing he had ever said.
But right behind that relief came the guilt, because he should have said it sooner.
He should have said it a thousand times before nowâshould have said it when you were laughing, when you were happy, when you were light and warm and untouched by pain.
He should have said it last week, when you had fallen asleep on his couch, curled up with his sweater wrapped around you, mumbling something incoherent before sighing in contentment.
He should have said it months ago, when you had grabbed his hand without thinking at the crowded market, weaving through people like you had never once considered not holding onto him.
He should have said it years ago, when you kicked his ass in that very first duel.
Sebastian huffed a humorless laugh, his thumb brushing your cheekbone. "God, I wish Iâd just told you sooner. Over a bowl of popcorn, some dumb movie playing in the background.â The corners of his mouth twitched, a rueful little smile that didnât quite reach his eyes. âI imagined it a thousand timesâtelling you. Watching your eyes light up, seeing you smile like you do when you think Iâm being stupid.â
Your lips quivered, the hint of a smile breaking through the tears.
âI wish it had been easy," he said. "Because you deserve easy. You deserve soft and gentle and everything good.â
You leaned into his touch, your hands reaching up to cover his. Your eyes searched hisâgentle, knowing, certain.
âEasyâs never really been on brand for us, has it?â
Sebastian blinked, caught off guard for half a second. And then a breathless, broken sound left him, something between a scoff and a laugh, something small and raw and achingly fond.
Because you were right.
Since the very beginning, since the moment you had first collided into his life, it had never been simple. Never straightforward. There had always been something elseâa complication, an obstacle, an unsaid feeling caught between glances and lingering touches that neither of you were ever brave enough to name.
You sniffled, wiping at your face with the sleeve of his sweaterâthe one you were drowning in, and fuck, you were so beautiful even now, despite the weight of the night still lingering in your shoulders.
âDo I wish none of this had happened?â Your voice was quiet, raw. âOf course I do. But fuck, Sebastian, you were there. You're always there." You gave a watery laugh, the smallest, softest thing. "When I'm at my best, when I'm at my worst. It's always been you. And Iâ"
You exhaled shakily, voice thick with too much. âI donât know what I wouldâve done if you werenât there tonight,â your voice dropped to a whisper, eyes locked onto his. âThere's no one else I would have gone to. No one else I would have let see me like this. No one else I trust the way I trust you.â
Sebastianâs throat felt tight, his breath coming uneven, chest aching under the weight of realization.
This wasnât just about tonight. Or last night. Or last week.
It was about every night. Every stolen glance, every quiet moment, every time you had reached for him first. It was in the way you always found him before anyone else, in the way you always chose him, in the way you always trusted himâwith the good, with the bad, with everything.
When things went well, when they didnât, when you needed comfort, when you needed a co-conspirator, when you needed someone to just be thereâit had always been him.
It settled into him all at onceâthe weight of years pressing against his ribs, filling every empty space inside him that had ever questioned what he meant to you.
Because it had always been this. Not a revelation. Not a shift. Not something new.
It had simply always been.
And you must have seen something in his faceâthe way he looked at you like he wanted to fall apart, because you gave him a small, wobbly smile, something barely there, something hopeful, something real.
âSay something, Sallow," you teased.
Sebastian let out a breathless, unsteady laugh, shaking his head. His eyes burned, his own tears threatening to fall. He let his hands moveâone tangling in the fabric at your chest, the other sliding to the nape of your neck.
He leaned in, slow, deliberate, like he was giving you the chance to pull away, like he was making absolutely sureâbut your hands curled into his shirt, pulling him in the rest of the way, and thenâ
Then you kissed him.
It was soft. Hesitant. Testing. Like neither of you could quite believe this was finally happening.
But then Sebastian felt you melt into him, felt the warmth of you, the way your grip on him tightened, the way your lips partedâ
And suddenly, it wasnât hesitant at all.
A soft sound rumbled in Sebastian's throat, something relieved, something grateful, something aching with all the things he had never let himself say, and he kissed you like his life depended on it, because maybe it did. Like he had been waiting for this for years, because he had. Like you were the only fucking thing in the world that mattered, because you were.
When you finally pulled away, both of you were breathless, foreheads pressed together, hearts pounding in sync.
Sebastian huffed a soft laugh, his lips brushing yours. "âŚ'bout time, huh?"
You let out a wobbly, teary laugh, nuzzling closer. "About time."
And Sebastian held youâtightly, unshakably, like letting go wasnât even a possibility, like something fundamental in him wouldnât allow it.
Because maybe this wasnât how he had ever imagined this moment. Maybe it wasnât wrapped in golden light, in laughter, in the warmth of an easy, stolen moment where everything was simple and good.
Maybe he hadnât gotten to plan for it, hadnât had the chance to say it first, hadnât gotten to look at you when you were smiling, when you were happy, and tell you what had been the truth for so damn long.
Maybe you werenât supposed to be saying I love you in the aftermath of something that had hurt you.
But this was still you. And this was still him. And that was all that mattered.
Because love wasnât just about the easy moments. It wasnât just about the days when the sun was shining, when your laughter came freely, when things felt light.
Love was this tooâlove was holding on, love was being there, love was standing in the wreckage of something awful and saying Iâve got you. Iâm here. And Iâm not leaving.
Sebastian pressed his forehead against yours, his breath shaky, his grip tight, his fingers curled against the fabric of his own sweater on your frame, holding you close, keeping you safe.
And he knew, with every piece of himself, that he wasnât letting go.
Not tonight.
Not ever.

finally got around to putting together elden ring builds for the post-ph crew, and tested them out briefly, so here are the builds i came up with and all that! (absolutely a very long post, i had fun explaining a lot of my reasoning)
i'm not going to give them exact stats, just some vague idea of what they'd likely lean towards, and i can't say much to what equip load they have. when i tested these builds out i had 72 endurance. this uses exclusively base-game equipment since i donât have the dlc and wanted to test these out for myself.
i also donât use many spells or any incantations so the spell and incantation choices are mostly based on wiki descriptions and whether or not i felt it would fit the character.
some context is that this is with the idea that somehow these four get zapped into the lands between as tarnished, and this is the equipment i think theyâd use, disregarding what is needed to access most of this stuff.
i also didn't change my tarnished's appearance for these, not that i think i could accurately replicate these four in elden ring's character creator, anyways, so you get to see my tarnished's face with all of these :)

His armor is: the highwayman hood, the blue cloth vest, exile gauntlets, and Carian knight greaves.
There's practically no green armor in this game, and what is there isn't really armor and isnât exactly good protection. I wanted a bit of a balance between just cloth, but also some armor, as well as a headpiece somewhat like the usual hero's cap. The highwayman's hood works well enough, honestly, and I think it fits in well with the blue cloth vest; plus, I can see it being helpful in keeping dust and whatnot out of his eyes. Blue works well enough with Link nowadays, and I do think the blue cloth vest actually fits Link well enough- I doubt he'd want to wear something like a plate breastplate, so a vest like this is good.
The exile gauntlets I feel work well, they're simple and slim with some decent coverage, and the Carian knight graves not only look great with the blue cloth vest, but are also something that I believe fits Link, and the tall boots are likely decently practical in the same vein as the hood.
His weapons I chose are: The Carian knight's sword, with the pulley bow as a secondary weapon, and the Carian knight's shield in his offhand, with the academy glintstone staff as a secondary.
He obviously had to be the good standard sword-and-shield combo fighter, but I went ahead and gave him with Carian sword and shield partially because they look decently similar to what weapons he normally uses, but also because I enjoy the idea of him dabbling in magic along with typical damage types. The Carian sword does a good bit of magic damage along with standard, and the shield guards again both of those types, and the sword's unique ash of war (Carian Grandeur) is a good mix between swordfighting and magic, and actually really good to use in-game. I feel like they suit him well.
For his secondaries, I had to give him a bow, and I feel like the pulley bow is just right, especially with it's special feature of having increased range. I could see him being the one tasked with deactivating faraway traps and hunting the animals of the Lands Between for materials, and even just luring enemies with some normal arrows.
The academy glintstone staff is a solid staff (and the one I personally use), and him using magic is a good way to translate his usual versatility, though I only limited him to five spells, those being:
Loretta's greatbow, giving him what is technically now a second bow, and a pretty good spell for luring and doing some decent magic damage,
Magma shot, a good, simple fire damage spell,
Glintstone Icecrag, a good ice spell, especially for causing frostbite buildup,
Great glintstone shard, a very basic but reliable spell, and is good when cast a few times in succession,
and Thops' barrier, for deflecting magic attacks, and though I've heard it's a mediocre spell, I could see Link getting the timing down and getting some good usage out of it. I tried giving him a decent range of spells, which is a little bit easier said then done considering the actual spell variety and wanting to pick spell that I think suit Link, but I think this is a good lineup.
For talismans, assuming that all four of them have all four talisman slots open, Link gets the silver scarab, the graven-mass talisman, the erdtree's favor +2, and the companion jar.
The silver scarab, raising item discovery is... perfect for Link. It only feels right that he gets a talisman that makes him more likely to get items off enemies. It definitely works, too, while testing, I got way more items out of the gatefront ruins group than I'd ever seen before.
The graven-mass talisman boosts sorcery power, which is certainly perfect for boosting Link's versatility and magic power, simple and useful.
The erdtreeâs favor +2 is just an all-around great talisman to use for the hp, mp, and stamina boost, and it feels perfect as something for Link to use, especially to increase his effectiveness and endurance in battle.
And then the companion jar, which goes hand-in-hand with him also being a pot user to further his versatility, and itâs very easy to see him doing the Jar-Bairn side quest. My choices here disregard how the items are obtained, but I could absolutely see Link going out of his way to interact with Jarburg.
Linkâs standard fighter, with a balance between offense and defense and physical and magical damage with a slight leaning towards magical, and the main archer who aims to do more damage with archery, and uses pots when needed. Heâs probably the one âleading the chargeâ in that heâs suited for most situations, but isnât necessarily the most effective in all-out combat- he is the most defensively oriented, however. Heâs likely in the mid-to-light equip range, and likely mostly levels Strength and Intelligence to keep his damage up, and focuses a lot on keeping his Vigor up for a good chunk of health.
Linebeck:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f245d427b64153ba60233d5416c99f1d/4fae1fbafc7aaf33-37/s540x810/6ce6f5c8b8cd72c57e4655eaaaee0b6441aad6c8.jpg)
His armor is: the black knife armor, the gauntlets, and bandit boots.
The black knife armor is the most important part of the set, not just for it being a nice blue, but because it has the unique effect of completely silencing your movement sounds- perfect for steal and getting in a good number of sneak attacks. Itâs light, too, and so are the generally standard gauntlets and bandit boots, all put together for a general⌠blue rogue kind of look? Itâs practicality and some looks and all put around the idea that heâs going to be sneaking around and panic-rolling out of the enemyâs way- so his defenses are a bit lacking in favor of mobility. I do think itâs a good look overall.
His weapons are: A bloody antspur rapier with the poison mist ash of war, the redbranch shortbow as a secondary weapon, and the frozen needle in the offhand.
For Linebeck's build, it was either daggers or rapiers, and the extra damage, range, and great designs for the rapier won out- and I think rapiers suit him well. This specific pair of rapiers are oriented around inflicting ailments, with the frozen needle inflicting frostbite, and the antspur rapier- specifically with the poison mist ash of war and blood upgrade- can inflict scarlet rot, bloodloss, and poison with poison mist active. With the blood upgrade, the scarlet rot buildup suffers, but with the speed of rapiers and just how effective scarlet rot can be, it's a decent trade-off for the ability to do four ailments at once. His role in the Radahn fight is to inflict scarlet rot and then run off to snipe him with the redbranch shortbow, which is a simple ranged option, and helps with further ailment inflicting with ailment arrows.
His damage would probably be pretty decent, especially considering inflicting frostbite and his equipped talismans, but he's mostly going to be heading in with everyone and sticking around until proccing an ailment, and then backing off, especially if poison, rot, or frostbite are inflicted. Plus I think dual rapiers look great and it's very easy to see Linebeck using rapiers.
For talismans, he gets the gold scarab, the assassin's crimson dagger, the dagger talisman, and the blessed dew talisman.
The gold scarab boost rune acquisition by 20%. It's perfect. It's one of my favorite talismans. I can't make an Elden Ring build for Linebeck and NOT give him the money-boosting talisman.
The assassin's crimson dagger restores hp upon successful critical hits, and paired with the silencing effect of the black knife armor, is perfect for someone who's more used to sneaking around and taking down enemies from behind- and it's good for topping off your hp.
The dagger talisman boosts critical damage- so then making sneak attacks all the more effective, and even making any critical hits he manages in fights do much more damage.
And then the blessed dew talisman gives you a very minuscule constant hp regen, about 2 hp per second iirc. Itâs incredibly slow, but it's hp regen all the same, good for saving flask uses and good for some health regeneration if you back out of the main fight.
Linebeck's got a big focus on stealth and ailments, with just a bit of health regen tossed in with the talismans to help with survivability. his weapons and offhand options are mainly based around ailments, and besides the bow, he tends to use darts and other throwable items, and is often the one to pick off enemies at the edge of a group while the others go in to the handle the main group. With bosses, he's in the front lines until an ailment is inflicted, and will jump back in either if he's really needed, or if ailments are needed again. For longer bosses, or bosses immune to a few ailments, he would probably find moments to jump in and get a bunch of quick hits in, then back out and wait for another opening. Rapiers are pretty good for quick hits considering that I believe you actually get three attacks from a dual-rapier sprint attack. Heâd likely have a focus on Dexterity and Arcane, with some Endurance mixed in for that good running and rolling stamina.
Damien:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2a1ea9c9d12e29030d4cbb52b2dbbe12/4fae1fbafc7aaf33-be/s540x810/b787a2bb347a66f5623ebcb9018b17ee522d7b6a.jpg)
His armor is; the sacred crown helm, exile armor, crucible gauntlets, and drake knight greaves.
Picking armor for Damien was a bit of a challenge since heâs still a bit of a work in progress and I usually picture him in generally casual clothes, but I knew I wanted to stick with some red clothing and put together a bit more of a practical sort of outfit. Plus this end result kind of helps me further figure out Damienâs actual design and outfit variations.
I knew I wanted to give him one of the simple footsoldier helmets, and the sacred crown helm won out with the additional detail of the little vine-looking wreath, plus the minor faith boost. Itâs a nice little helmet and I think it suits him. The exile armor was considered due to the red cloth around the shoulders, and was properly decided on when I found that the helmet got rid of the cloth covering the bottom half of the face. So itâs a good solid chest piece.
The crucible gauntlets and drake knight greaves work both with color and giving him some more armored extremities, the crucible gauntlets are pretty good heavy armor gauntlets, if the crucible knights themselves are anything to go by, and the drake knight graves seem to have a good bit of practicality with the high boots and armor. Itâs all meant to end up somewhere in the medium equip load area, for a balance between defense and speed, and the lighter helmet and chest piece were primarily to even out with the heavier weapons.
The weapons he gets are: the axe of Godrick, the highland axe as a secondary, and the clawmark seal.
The axe of Godrick is a pretty good greataxe with what selection there is, some good damage and a really good ash of war skill with a really good area of effect. Itâs fantastic for crowd control when two-handed, and worked pretty well for me when I tested it out without having upgraded it. Itâs all in all a great standard axe. The highland axe as a secondary is used partially as a faster one-hand option, and partially for the boost given by its war cry ash of war. The axe of Godrick is almost always what heâd use, but the highland axe is probably better for some specific situations. Damien was always going to end up using axes, and I think these two are pretty good and fitting.
In his other hand is the clawmark seal- scaling with faith and strength and so working well with him relying on strength, and boosting bestial incantations, of which he has one- and he mostly uses support incantations with some minor attack incantations- but he is primarily support, usually backing out of the fight to switch to casting due to usually two-handing the axe of Godrick. He gets six incantations, those being:
Heal, as a very standard heal, mostly just for himself,
Erdtree heal, a heal more intended for group healing,
Golden vow, a group offense and defense buff for a time,
Protection of the erdtree, for increased non-physical defense, which is likely useful for many bosses,
Bestial sling, which is a pretty basic but effective attack incantation, and boosted by the seal he uses, and is probably great in tandem with his axes to break an enemy's poise,
and then Dragonclaw as his final spell, a stronger and closer-up attack spell, likely for individual bosses that are lower on hp.
His offenses are standard and meant to be pretty decent for crowd control and poise-breaking, so his attack spells follow suite, while his support options are based around healing and some basic buffs. I personally do not use buffs or incantations when I play, so I do not know the nuances of a lot of this stuff, but Damien's got a good set of incantations to use.
Damien's set of talismans are the green turtle talisman, the mottled necklace +1, the axe talisman, and the bull-goat's talisman.
The green turtle talisman is a great talisman, simply increasing the speed of stamina regeneration, and it's a fantastic talisman. Very useful with the stamina drained by axe attacks and backing off to cast spells.
The mottled necklace boosts immunity, robustness, and focus, an across-the-board status boost, and I imagine it's useful for being up close with enemies and then staying alive to help with support- even if he doesn't have much in the way of ailment-based support.
The axe talisman is a damage booster, and considering his decent poise, charged attacks are pretty viable for him to be using.
The bull-goat's talisman is standard but very effective in practice (or maybe that's me being used to low poise), as it raises poise, therefore making it harder for you to flinch or be knocked out of an attack. Very helpful with a slower main weapon like the axe of Godrick.
Damien's standard all around, with pretty good damage and likely very helpful with crowd control, usually two-handing the axe for maximum damage and will back off when using incantations. He primarily uses incantations for support, and the offensive incantations are usually saved for bosses or rougher encounters- or sometimes just if he wants to switch things up for fun. He's likely going to focus on Strength and Faith, with some Mind thrown in for most casts.
Bellum:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/db8a829601bc62abeecf0f396db2602f/4fae1fbafc7aaf33-1b/s540x810/bbf9ad1897c52a21e4661bbbeda5d62f3f221355.jpg)
His armor is: the altered tree sentinel armor, and the malformed dragon gauntlets and greaves.
Chosen partially for the color and because they're all heavy plate armor; meant to emulate a lot of the phantom designs, and for that yellow color, and I wasn't even aware that the malformed dragon gauntlets had a darker color until I was initially putting this together. Heavy armor fits with a desire to survive in battle, plus I think decent mobility in heavy armor suits Bellum; when I tested this out, I was firmly in medium equip load territory, plus it made for a good bit of poise to go with slower weapons. It wasn't too hard to pick out armor for him.
The weapons I felt suit him are: the blasphemous blade, the Marais executioner's sword, with the gravel stone seal as a secondary.
The blasphemous blade was practically necessary, a greatsword with the bonus effect of hp restoration on enemy death, plus the Taker's Flames skill, which also heals hp when it hits an enemy. This is was made me decide on greatswords over colossal weapons, trying to stick a bit with some ideas from the phantoms, plus the hp-leeching effects, plus itâs a pretty good weapon and I think it originally belonging to Rykard also fits pretty well; itâs Bellumâs main weapon unless he switches to the Marais Executionerâs sword for itâs specific skill. That sword is mostly chosen for itâs skill, as well as itâs origins- those bell-bearing hunters are absolute nightmares to deal with- so the two swords are kind of also picked for a sort of intimidation effect. At least the wriggling flesh on the blasphemous blade does the job well enough if someone doesnât know the origins (which donât practically matter). He would likely switch to the executionerâs sword for some boss fights, and its skill can be highly damaging to lone enemies- the focus with these two is on heavy damage and hp regen.
The secondary left hand weapon he has is the gravel stone seal, which boost dragon incantations, and so he only uses offense incantations, with a lot of incantations that cover a wide area and some that inflict ailment buildup. Bellum gets five incantations, all attacks (and all maybe emulating the idea that heâs a monster forced to be human in the lands between lol);
Beast claw, a pretty standard but pretty effective ground-level attack,
Unendurable frenzy, a wide range, fiery madness-inflicting incantation that, while only inflicting madness on a select few enemies (and himself) is likely more than useful for crowds and large enemies,
Rotten breath, a dragon communion incantation that is about what it says on the tin, a dragonâs breath attack that inflicts scarlet rot,
Fortissaxâs lightning spear, another dragon incantation that summons a pair of lightning spears, with the damage at itâs best up close,
and Aspects of the crucible: tail, a wide-range crucible incantation, and the most fitting of the crucible incantations, I feel.
He has no issue getting up close to bosses, since he can fall back on the honestly insane hp regen heâs afforded by both his main weapon and some of his talismans.
The talismans Bellum gets are; the takerâs cameo, the dragoncrest greatshield talisman, the pearldrake talisman +2, and the godskin swaddling cloth.
The takerâs token has the same passive effect as the blasphemous blade; hp restoration upon enemy death. The fun part is that the takerâs token and the blasphemous bladeâs hp regen effects stack with each other.
The dragoncrest greatshield talisman reduces physical damage by 20%, and the pearldrake talisman +2 reduces non-physical damage by about 11%. Covering just about all defenses with these two talismans.
The godskin swaddling cloth allows for additional minor hp restoration upon landing a certain number of melee hits within a short timeframe. This could be harder with greatswords, but with dual greatswords and jumping right into the action, I donât imagine itâs at all impossible for the talismanâs effect to never trigger. As always, itâs extra effective with a larger number of enemies.
Bellumâs the main damage-dealer with a focus on staying power and lots of hp regen, using the blasphemous blade for regular battles while switching to the executionerâs sword for bosses due to the more aggressive ash of war. His incantations are more often used for crowd control, but are absolutely effect for boss battles, especially when given time to charge them up. Heâs all about staying power and straightforward damage-dealing, with some decent poise to back things up despite his checking piece being altered and his lack of a helmet, and all of his incantations are a bit more bestially-inclined. He'd probably focus on Vigor and Strength, with some Faith or Dexterity thrown in for damage-dealing.
Overall, the idea is that the four of them are in the lands between like this, working and running around together, probably fighting over what bosses to go after next and whether or not to head into the catacombs that one of them just spotted. I could see them taking the time to scour the lands between for every little trinket and discussing whether or not to bother with some character's quest. Not too different from actual post-ph stuff, but it's fun to put them in Elden Ring and think on what kinds of equipment to give them and what would suit them.
#salty talks#elden ring#post-ph#ppl checking out the elden ring tag for normal elden ring stuff disregard this dw abt it i have this tagged for my own organization#of these four linebeck's was the most fun to actually use but its mostly bc its the most similar to my usual build#bellum's was kinda cumbersome but god i hated link's i never want to use a shield i almost died testing out link's#which is fuckin saying something at gatefront ruins at level 218#i didnt test out any of the magic bc. number 1 i have 10 faith. and number two i picked these off fextralife wiki#long post#bellum HAD to use the blasphemous blade its perfect its a big sword that has an hp regen skill and regens hp when you kill something#and has nasty little moving bits of flesh on it. cant see it in the picture ofc but know that in game the red bits wriggle i like it#sorry if the pictures are big btw tbh they look better on mobile#the angle on damien's is awkward bc i wanted to get the whole axe on screen. thats the only reason why his is a little weird#prolly worth mentioning that i didnt alter my stats at all so the 'build' is like the equipment and stuff.#tbh thats probably why my damage with the bellum build suffered bc i have 10 faith and the blasphemous blade scales with faith#anyways listed all equipment and whatnot if anyone wanted the specifics of this stuff#im not great at like. putting together outfits in elden ring i figured out my tarnished's fit early on and stuck with it#theres a very good chance that my own playstyle and experience with the game influenced these like. i do not touch incantations for one#and ive been dual wielding since as soon as i figured it out and got two straight swords#iirc i briefly used rock sling bc you can get that really early but eh#thinking abt it now this also translates pretty well to traditional rpg party roles. standard link with all around decent stats but high#versatility and a lot of options. linebecks more speed and ailment-inflicting based. damien is high standard damage but a much more support#and healing based with a few basic standard damage spells. and bellum is more dedicated offense and defense with a focus on staying power#without any group support or other traits- just high offense high defense#if you wanna know what my tarnished looks like know this is inaccurate bc ive since tweaked her#the hp regen on bellums is wild when i cleared out gatefront like every few seconds id heard the hp steal sound effect it was nuts#no notes on damiens his was was surprisingly easy to get a handle of and is great with crowds#you can probably tell from the way this is written that it took me fucking forever to write up

In the wake of the TikTok ban and revival as a mouthpiece for fascist propaganda, as well as the downfall of Twitter and Facebook/Facebook-owned platforms to the same evils, I think now is a better time than ever to say LEARN HTML!!! FREE YOURSELVES FROM THE SHACKLES OF MAJOR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS AND EMBRACE THE INDIE WEB!!!
You can host a website on Neocities for free as long as it's under 1GB (which is a LOT more than it sounds like let me tell you) but if that's not enough you can get 50GB of space (and a variety of other perks) for only $5 a month.
And if you can't/don't want to pay for the extra space, sites like File Garden and Catbox let you host files for free that you can easily link into NeoCities pages (I do this to host videos on mine!) (It also lets you share files NeoCities wouldn't let you upload for free anyways, this is how I upload the .zip files for my 3DS themes on my site.)
Don't know how to write HTML/CSS? No problem. W3schools is an invaluable resource with free lessons on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and a whole slew of other programming languages, both for web development and otherwise.
Want a more traditional social media experience? SpaceHey is a platform that mimics the experience of 2000s MySpace
Struggling to find independent web pages that cater to your interests via major search engines? I've got you covered. Marginalia and Wiby are search engines that specifically prioritize non-commercial content. Marginalia also has filters that let you search for more specific categories of website, like wikis, blogs, academia, forums, and vintage sites.
Maybe you wanna log off the modern internet landscape altogether and step back into the pre-social media web altogether, well, Protoweb lets you do just that. It's a proxy service for older browsers (or really just any browser that supports HTTP, but that's mostly old browsers now anyways) that lets you visit restored snapshots of vintage websites.
Protoweb has a lot of Geocities content archived, but if you're interested in that you can find even more old Geocities sites over on the Geocities Gallery
And really this is just general tip-of-the-iceberg stuff. If you dig a little deeper you can find loads more interesting stuff out there. The internet doesn't have to be a miserable place full of nothing but doomposting and targeted ads. The first step to making it less miserable is for YOU, yes YOU, to quit spending all your time on it looking at the handful of miserable websites big tech wants you to spend all your time on.
#this is a side point so it's going here but I really think tech literacy should be a requirement in schools like math grammar history etc.#we live in a world so dominated by the stuff and yet a majority of the population does not understand it at even the most fundamental level#tiktok#tiktok ban#indie web#neocities#web development#current events#twitter#facebook#meta#amazon

hes mesmerized by the way your head moves, the way your lips look. he has to force himself to not throw his head back so he can see you. one time he got ahead of himself and snapped his hips up and you choked on him, best day of his life. when he found out your throat felt like that? no going back. he begs you to deep throat him all the time.
âmore⌠more more more. please baby!â
âremember how good i eat you out? please treat me goodâ
âi know itâs too deep! im sorry i canât stop babyâ
SUGURU GETO AKA NICE N SLOW
just into good old fashioned blowjobs. your hand kept at the base and your lips move up and down his shaft. he wants your tongue swirling over it like a lollipop. he brushes your hair out of your face to see your expressions. heâs so gentle and nice when it comes to blowjobs.
letâs you grind on his leg while you suck him off. mostly uses it as foreplay and not a main way to get off. likes for your spit to act as lube for him to slide in. if he was gonna cum from a bj it would be on your tits. he loves that.
âfuck keep that up and iâll cumâ
âlet it get hard in your mouth⌠thatâs rightâ
âdonât give me those innocent eyes, slutâ
NANAMI KENTO AKA UNDER THE DESK
oh youâll support your working man, from under the desk. heâs so stressed about work these days and you have just the solution! you showed up to his home office in skimpy lingerie and without saying a word you crawl under his desk and get to work. he gets so flustered so fast, blushing and stuttering about how his report is due.
grips the chair so tight when you start working your magic. he doesnât want to thrust up because he knows heâll bruise your throat. uses his belt to wrap around your neck and guide you instead. pulls your hair an insane amount. cums in your mouth but likes to watch it pour out onto your body.
âiâm working baby⌠youâll get me too distractedâ
âwrap that belt around your neck, be a good assistantâ
âis this you saying thank you for being my sugar daddy?â
TOJI FUSHIGURO AKA TWO HANDS
heâs so big you need to use your hands or else he might pop out on the other side of your neck. youâre moving your hands and your mouth at a similar pace. he definitely teaches you how he wants it. he guides your head to a good rhythm and then lets you do your thing.
maybe heâll have a cigarette hanging out his mouth when you suck it. blowing smoke in your face to tease you. definitely makes fun of the fact that you canât take all of him. your jaw has to be open so wide to get him in. cums everywhere, your face, throat, tits. doesnât matter, if itâs you heâll cum there.
âdonât just move your hands up and down baby, turn emâ
âyour face looks so fucking small next to my dick!â
âcâmon, try harder to take it or else iâll force you toâ

the lab tech training me said awesomesauce sixteen times today btw. yeah I counted
#she says it completely unironically its actually kinda cute. I like when ppl have a set phrasebook of neutral/affirmative responses#but its also very funny to me... carbon dating her age based off that#im training to replace her bc she leaves in 2 weeks đĽđ˘ they pulled me on pretty short notice so we're cramming important stuff#its kinda scary to think ill be in the lab without her in ONLY two weeks.... ik the other techs will chip in and train me in other stuff#but im like a freshly hatched duckling ive imprinted on her..... also theres literally only 3 ppl in my lab team so when she leaves itll-#just be me and my manager.... actually basically just me in the food lab bc she mostly works from her desk doing higher up stuff#and yeah there are always other ppl in the main lab and ill be in and out of there all the time too but still......#it feels like a weird amt of responsibility considering ill have only been there three weeks đ° but its ok theyre rly supportive#ahhhh..#.diaries

I hope you know that literally nobody is going to be able to live up to the standard you, V*v, and Glitch have set and your arrogance and exploitation of your fanbase and connections has screwed millions of creatives out of their dreams because Hollywood is a joke that isn't worth telling and wealthy e-celebs like yourself have claimed the indie scene all to yourselves and moved the goalposts into the stratosphere.
Nope. This isn't a zero sum game. There is not some limited, prescribed number of indie trophy slots that a few studios greedily filled up, blocking everyone else out. That is not how it works. Nothing any other creator is doing - short of personally sending hired goons to your doorstep or stealing your credit cards - is taking anything away from you or preventing your success. In fact if an indie creator can manage to demonstrate that they've got something viable going, it may help to map out a pathway for others.
I think I'm not going to bother trying to address whether or not cartoons in return for support from fans - an entirely voluntary exchange - constitutes exploitation. And I'm living in the Midwest driving a 2007 economy car with 200k+ miles on it, but let's just skip past the assumptions that I'm wealthy and connected too.
Instead, let's get to the weirdly myopic notion that the indie scene is held captive by three studios. Maybe YouTube algorithms or Twitter bubbles are somewhat to blame, but in actuality there are so, so many individual people, friend groups, and small production houses out there making independent animation, I cannot possibly name them all.
Here are some anyway:
Far-Fetched Worthikids Satina | Scumhouse Noodle and Bun Punch Punch Forever Ramshackle Noodle Papajoolia | Pipi Angel Hare | The East Patch Jonni Peppers Salad Fingers Monkey Wrench Studio Heartbreak Felix Colgrave JelloApocalypse Odd1sout (started indie, got picked up by Netflix) Allie Mehner JaidenAnimations Lumi and the Great Big Galaxy Cloudrise | The Worlds Divide Telepurte RubberRoss James Lee ENA Godspeed | Olan Rogers Ollie and Scoops Meat Canyon Port by the Sea Kekeflipnote Boxtown Kevin Temmer Weebl Joel Haver CircleToons Long Gone Gulch Atlas and the Stars Animist Skibidi Toilet A Fox in Space Alex Henderson Talon Toniko Pantoja Sr. Pelo Hullabaloo Kane Pixels (started indie, picked up by A24) Homestar Runner Fennah Gods' School Alan Becker Dungeon Flippers JazLyte Psychicpebbles (started indie, Smiling Friends picked up by AS) Piemations vewn Metal Family Dead Sound chluaid Jacknjellify Betsy Lee | No Evil My Pride Cranbersher GeoExe | Gwain Saga Horatio the Vampire Mech West Playground | Rodrigo Sousa The Brave Locomotive Finchwing (+ many other Warrior Cats animators) Quazies SamBakZa Kamikaze: Trial by Fire
By no means a full list. That's just YouTube, and mostly just English language stuff, and I didn't even get to the multitudes of Warrior Cats animation collabs.
The point is, the indie landscape is vast and populated by creators new and old, making all kinds of animated media from skits, to shows, to ARGs, to films. Audience sizes vary as much as the content, stylistic approaches, subject matter, and budgets do. There are no compliance standards, no gateways to entry, no goalposts. There's not even any preset definition of success except what you decide for yourself.
Anyway, instead of nurturing your resentments, consider making something. I assure you, it's a far more rewarding use of your time and energy, and pretty much no one can stop you. ------------- EDIT- Made some additions to the list based on comments. Thanks!

Cherry Red, Crimson Blood
Chapter 36: To The Sea
Summary: It's time to move on. You're not sure where you're going exactly, but anywhere is better than Texas
Pairing: Poly 141 x reader
Word Count: 7,811 words
Warnings: ANGST, injuries, medical stuff, descriptions of pain and injuries, brief discussion about strangulation, mentions of PTSD and nightmares, so much crying, Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics, Alternate Universe, angst, a very little sprinkle of comfort, language, mentions of medications, still very heavy emotionally
A/N: Not actually a lot of warnings for this one. It's a lot of dialogue and inner monologues. Not a lot happens, just mostly setting the scene for the next chunk of the story. Bring tissues though, the last part of the chapter emotionally wrecked me but also might be the best thing I've ever written.
11/30/24: **This Chapter has been edited and rewritten from its original version**
MASTERLIST | <- Previous | Next ->
Itâs warm outside.Â
Not even the shade from the building can completely shield you from the dome of heat that seems to surround the base. It seeps into the concrete and asphalt that lock it into place, trapping everyone in a bubble that may as well be an oven. Itâs always hot in Texas, though. You hate it. Youâve been spoiled by the cold, rainy seasons in England. Youâd gladly take that over Texas.Â
Youâd take anything over Texas.Â
The heat prickles at your skin, your arm starting to get sweaty in the sling. It had been Dr. Kellerâs idea to keep your shoulder as still as possible so you donât continue to cause yourself pain when you move. It still hurts, but at least you wonât instinctively try to use your left arm now.
Despite the warmth, thereâs still a chill deep in your bones. The warmth of the pain medicine has worn off and youâve been left with the perpetual ice that has seemed to coat your insides. Dr. Keller says it's the stress giving you a fever. Every nightmare, every flashback sends your body temperature spiking, your heart beating right out of your chest. Youâre not out of the woods yet. It can take a long time to recover from that level of distress and the omega taking over. You almost regret it, but there was no guarantee you would have lived either way at that time. You did what you had to do, and it did work out in the end.Â
But at what cost?Â
Dr. Kellerâs phone buzzes in her pocket and she pulls it out, staring down at the screen for a moment. âKyle wants to come by.âÂ
You donât want to see him. You donât want to see any of them.Â
âI think you should see him. Even if itâs just for a moment.â She squeezes your hand. âIâll be right here.âÂ
Itâs a predicament. Dr. Keller supports your decision to keep them away, putting some distance between all of you for the time being. Yet, she also says being close to your pack will help your healing. Having your pack around will help your omega settle once again. She needs that safety, that security before she finally lets go completely.Â
You donât want to be close to them, but you may not have any other choice.Â
You sit there in silence, picking at the fabric of your sweatpants as you wait for Kyleâs arrival. Sweat has started to bead on your back, the day only getting warmer and warmer as the sun moves higher in the sky. You want to go back inside, back into the cool air conditioned building. You want to crawl back onto the hospital bed and lay there for the next few hours.Â
You canât.Â
Footsteps approach, but you donât look up. You know who it is. You donât want to see him.Â
âKyle.â Dr. Keller greets.Â
âChristine.â He says back. It still throws you off, hearing Dr. Keller's first name. She'll always be Dr. Keller to you. Kyle turns his attention to you, still standing a few steps from the bench you're perched on. âHi, love.â He says. The affectionate nickname almost makes you wince. You don't look up at him. You donât want to see his face. âI wanted to stop by and see how youâre doing.âÂ
You don't move, don't give an answer. You don't have an answer to give anyway. You shouldn't have to give an answer.Â
He lowers himself onto the bench, sitting as far away from you as he can. âItâs hot today.â He says, adjusting his hat. Always wearing a hat. Maybe that's why he and Price work so well together.Â
He stares at you for a long moment but you don't bother moving, your gaze still on your sweatpants. They're starting to get a bit warm, even with your perpetual chill.Â
âIâm not here to apologize.â He says, breaking the silence. âYouâve probably heard enough apologies to last you a lifetime.â He shakes his head. âWords canât fix what we did. Nothing can fix what we did. All we can do is give you what you need, try and make you as comfortable as possible.âÂ
Tears burn your eyes as you listen to him. He's not wrong, an apology won't fix what happened. No words will ever be able to fix what they put you through. You're not sure there's anything they could do that would make up for it. An apology still would have been nice, despite the fact you know how guilty he is. Their avoidance of you, their willingness to give you such space in an unknown place just proves how guilty they all are.Â
That doesn't make things hurt any less.Â
You slowly turn away from Kyle, angling yourself towards Dr. Keller.Â
He doesn't say anything further in that regard, taking your movement as an answer to his non-apology. He leans forward instead, resting his elbows on his knees. âI just wanted to let you know that weâre getting ready to leave soon. Weâll be heading somewhere safe, somewhere quiet and secluded. I think youâll like it.âÂ
Dr. Keller had informed you of that earlier after she went to speak to them. They've decided what to do, what's best for the pack again. You might have protested, except for the fact it meant you were getting to leave Texas. Where exactly they're taking you, you're not sure. You just know it's not Texas.Â
âI want you to know that weâre here if you need us.â He stares at you for a moment longer before pushing himself up to stand.Â
If, not when.Â
Maybe they're finally getting the message.Â
Dr. Keller stands, touching your right shoulder gently before she steps away with Kyle, speaking quietly with him, but you can still hear every word in the nearly silent space around you.Â
âIn an attempt to remain a neutral, professional party in this situation, I feel it would be appropriate for me to tell you not to beat yourself up too much about this.â Dr. Keller says. âThe unprofessional side of me has many words Iâd like to say to all of you.â She clears her throat. âThat being said, on a positive note I can say youâre all doing the right thing for once, prioritizing your omega and fulfilling her needs, even if her needs require you to leave her alone for now. I know itâs hard, I know every instinct is screaming at you to help her, but just take comfort in knowing you are helping her. Youâre doing the best thing you can do for her at this time.â Dr. Keller puts a hand on his arm, squeezing it gently. âEven if it is tearing you up inside.âÂ
âThanks, Doc.â He says.Â
âIâll see you soon.â She says, patting his arm before she heads back towards your bench.Â
You turn your head just slightly, not missing the way Gaz lingers for a brief moment before he turns his back on you, walking back down the sidewalk.Â

It hurts.Â
You want to cry with every swallow. No matter how much you chew, it doesnât ease the pain of trying to swallow solid food. Even the worst sore throat youâve ever had pales in comparison to this pain. Tears burn in your eyes as you eat, unable to refuse this time in favor of choking down some liquid nutrients. Even liquids make your throat ache, but they are easy to chug to get it over with at once.Â
This feels like torture.Â
Dr. Keller looks guilty as she spoon-feeds you the soup. Chicken noodle, something simple and easy but still something with some substance. It makes you think back to when you were sick as a child, your mother dutifully feeding you homemade chicken noodle soup until you reached the age you could feed yourself.Â
You do feel like a child again, unable to even hold the spoon. Well, you could hold it, but it would have come at the expense of some burns from how badly your hand was shaking.Â
So instead you sit here, being spoon-fed soup you can barely stand eating.Â
âI know.â She says as a tear finally falls, your inhale shaky from the ache in your throat. âYou need something in your system for the sedative. Itâs a long flight and youâll be sick when you wake up if you donât have anything in your stomach. Thatâs going to hurt a lot worse than eating now.âÂ
Yeah. Youâve already figured that out.Â
âStrangulation is a tough thing to survive.â She says, dragging the bottom of the spoon against the edge of the bowl to wipe off any soup that might drip on you. âThen again, so is getting shot, and distressing to the point of your omega taking over.â She holds the spoon up to your lips, and youâre tempted to refuse. âYouâve survived a lot, more than most could. And to look this good after...âÂ
You blink up at her, teary eyed and sickly looking, exhausted and bruised. Your left eye is still almost swollen shut, and your hair is tangled perhaps beyond saving, tied up in a bun at the top of your head. All just reminders of what you survived, all reminders of what happened to you. Of what was allowed to happen to you.Â
Youâre not quite sure when the last time you had a real shower was either.Â
âI know.â She says, spooning more soup into your mouth. âYou might not feel like it, right now.âÂ
âI want a shower.â You say, your voice still hoarse and cracking through your throat. A real shower might solve a lot of problems for you right now. It wonât fix much, but being truly clean would make a lot of things feel better.Â
âI wholeheartedly agree.â Dr. Keller says.Â
You give her a look. You don't smell that bad. She should know, sheâs the one that cleaned the blood off of you and the one who gave you the sponge bath this morning.Â
She gives you a look back. âI meant it would be nice to take a real shower. Once we get where weâre going, we can work on the logistics of a shower.âÂ
Right. You canât exactly stand for a long time on your own, not to mention the problem of only being able to use one arm without bringing blinding pain upon yourself. Thatâs where the pack would come in handy.Â
The thought of one of them seeing you vulnerable like that, putting their hands on you right now makes your skin crawl.Â
A shiver runs down your spine, your body shuddering uncontrollably. You grunt as your shoulder screams in pain, another electric jolt burning straight through your nerves and down through your feet. Fuck. You mouth the word, squeezing your eyes shut. It makes your stomach churn, the soup starting to burn a path back up through your esophagus.
âBreathe for me.â Dr. Keller says, putting a gentle hand on your right shoulder.Â
In and out. You focus on your breath, the only thing you can do without feeling like youâre going to go insane from the pain. Itâs all you can do in this situation. Itâs the only thing you can do at all. Breathe. Just keep breathing.Â
Sometimes you donât want to.Â
The pain passes as it always does, leaving behind a subtle ache that will linger until the next flare of pain. Itâs a constant, never-ending cycle that you canât escape from. Weeks, Dr. Keller had said. It can take weeks to heal. Youâll be stuck in this cycle for weeks and weeks. What if it never heals? That is a possibility. Itâs always a risk with any injury.Â
What if the rest of your life is like this?Â
Youâre crying again, hot tears blazing a path down your cheeks. They wonât stop, they never stop. Thereâs a constant stream down your face, even in your sleep. Youâve woken to find your face and neck damp from the never ceasing flood of tears.Â
How you canât wait for the time to come when you have none left.
Youâd welcome the numbness at this point, greet it like an old friend and invite it in for tea. Anything over the pain and tears that wonât stop. The depression-fueled numbness that had filled you when Price and Gaz left, then Soap and Ghost would be a welcome relief at this point. Anything would be better than the pain.Â
You almost wish you were in a coma right now. Then you wouldnât feel anything at all.Â
Dr. Keller puts the spoon back into the soup bowl before rolling the table to the side. She puts a hand on your head, gently stroking your hair as you cry. The room is silent aside from your sniffles, Dr. Keller not having to say a single word. The silence is almost a blessing. Youâre tired of hearing words, of hearing people speak. Thereâs nothing anyone can say that will do anything to help you, to comfort you, to make it better.Â
Thereâs nothing anyone can do to make it better.Â
Youâre so tired of being like this.Â
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/790b8016479682bd0369c99b1d2e7921/8ac2d84fbcf86956-fe/s540x810/c9960da00e60123a07132f84339c00e7a9cfb497.jpg)
The sedative is kicking in before you even reach the airfield. She can see the way your head is drooping further and further forward in the car, your body jostling without any complaint. It had started kicking in before you even got into the car, as you offered very little resistance when Kyle helped her mauver you into the front seat. She chose Kyle out of everyone to help her in hopes it would be easiest on you. Your claimed alphaâs beta is a good place to start in rebuilding the bonds within the pack, and his calm demeanor certainly helps. He is a caretaker through and through, that beta trait prominent above the others in him. He would have made a good medic, had he gone that route.Â
Your chin drops to your chest as the car comes to a stop in front of the plane, your body slumping to the side against the door.Â
âSheâs out.â Christine says, unbuckling her seatbelt.Â
âMakes this easier.â Kyle says, getting out of the car.Â
They maneuver you into the wheelchair, Christine easing your head onto your right shoulder to avoid aggravating the left. The less pain youâre in when you come out of it, the better, though pain will be unavoidable. Kyle pushes the wheelchair up the ramp of the plane, Christine following close behind. Sheâs glad she gave you the sedative before you left the med center to avoid as much pain as possible. She almost wishes she had given it to you earlier, as getting you into a sweatshirt had been a battle of its own. Though, the longer it stays in your system, the longer youâll sleep through the flight. The longer you sleep through the flight, the longer they can delay the inevitable emotional storm of being enclosed in a tight space with your pack.Â
If youâre lucky, youâll be out of it long enough for them to reach the cottage without incident.Â
John is waiting near the front of the aircraft, his eyes watching carefully as Kyle helps maneuver you into a seat. Even with the turmoil in the pack bonds, an alpha will always feel protective over their omega. Thereâs some things that canât be undone, even in such a fragile state. Some instincts canât be unlearned, no matter what.Â
âI gave her a sedative.â Christine explains as she gets you as comfortable as possible in the seat. âIt wonât last the whole flight, but itâll take a while to wear off regardless.âÂ
âIs that more for her or for us?â John asks.Â
âBoth.â Christine says. âMostly for her. It helps with the pain of moving around, but it will also keep her calm in close quarters like this.âÂ
âHere.â John says, handing her something. Itâs a blanket, brand new by the feel of it. âJohnny made a store run this morning. Itâs going to get cold in here, so he got the warmest one he could find.âÂ
Christine takes the blanket, the fabric thick and soft in her hands. Itâs a touching gesture, speaking volumes of their desire to still care for you despite everything, their willingness to do what they have to, to keep the pack together. âPerfect.â She says, carefully draping it over you and tucking it around you before John gets you secured in the seat.Â
âItâs going to be a long flight.â John says, taking a step back.Â
âIt is.â Christine says, pulling out her thermometer. She takes your temperature, letting out a hum at the number that pops up on screen. âI need to monitor her temperature.â She explains as John gives her a look. âItâs been spiking when she gets stressed.âÂ
âShe's not quite out of it yet, is she?â John asks.
âNot quite.â She says, putting the thermometer back in her bag. âIâve only seen two omegas successfully come back from that point, and I know the number across the board isnât very high. It takes a long time for the body and the brain to get back to normal.âÂ
âAnd on top of everything that happened...âÂ
She stares up at him for a long moment. âSheâs very strong. I knew she was a fighter, but to come out the other side even where she is now...â Christine shakes her head. âI didnât want to say this at the time, but I was expecting the worst. When that call came in about what state she was in...â She bites her lip, holding the emotions back. âHer resilience and fortitude is what kept her alive. That and Simonâs courage to do what needed to be done.âÂ
âI know.â John says, looking past her. âWe all owe a lot to him.âÂ
Christine puts a gentle hand on his arm. âYouâre doing whatâs best for her. No matter how much it hurts, no matter how much it goes against every instinct you have, itâs what she needs.âÂ
âThatâs all that matters to us right now.â John says, staring down at her hand for a moment. âThereâs nothing else we can do, so itâs time we start putting our priorities where they should have been the whole time.âÂ
Christine gives him a small smile. âIâm proud of you for that. It takes a lot to unlearn the things youâve been told since the beginning.âÂ
The corner of Johnâs lips twitch before his face falls into the emotionless mask heâs been wearing for the last few days. âItâs about time we get our heads out of our arses.âÂ
âI canât blame you totally.â She shrugs. âWe were all just doing what the initiative was telling us to do. We couldnât have known. There wasnât any room to question it.âÂ
âI wish we would have figured it out sooner.â He sighs.Â
âThings might have been worse if the truth did come out sooner. If you started digging into the initiative too soon, Shepherd might have gotten antsy and taken more drastic measures to stop the truth from coming out entirely.â She glances down at you. âI think this was all inevitable.â She turns her gaze back to John. âWhat happened, happened. None of us can change that. All we can do is keep moving forward with what we have right now.âÂ
He stares at her for a long moment. âThe more time passes, the more Iâve come to realize why Kate chose you for this position.âÂ
The corner of her lips turns up in a smile. âWell, I am rather good at my job, which, among other things, involves advocating on behalf of omegas.âÂ
John huffs. âWish we would have listened sooner.âÂ
âYou canât change the past.â She repeats, looking down at you again. âBut you can change the future.âÂ
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/790b8016479682bd0369c99b1d2e7921/8ac2d84fbcf86956-fe/s540x810/c9960da00e60123a07132f84339c00e7a9cfb497.jpg)
You woke from your sedation about four hours from Helston.Â
Well, âwokeâ might have been too strong of a word for it. Your eyes opened, but you were still hazy, movements sluggish and entirely unaware of the world around you. You floated between sleep and awareness for an hour before finally gaining consciousness completely. Awareness took quite a while to return, though. Not until they were moving you to the car from the plane.Â
Even still youâre groggy, slumped against the door in the back seat of the car. You blink slowly, eyes unfocused as you stare out the window at the blur of green passing by.Â
âHow is she?â John asks from the driver's seat, glancing up at the rearview mirror.Â
âCow.â You say, blinking slowly as the car passes a field of cows.Â
âStill out of it.â Christine answers from the back seat where she's sitting next to you. Your response might have been enough to answer that. âBetter than being in pain, though.âÂ
âHow long will it take for her to get out of it?â Kyle asks.Â
âHopefully sheâll be more lucid by the time we get there, but it could take a few hours for it to completely wear off.â Christine says, wiping a bit of drool from your chin. âProbably not a bad thing. This is a big change, and with everything thatâs happened, itâs going to take some time to settle in.âÂ
âThings are going to be rough.â Kyle says.Â
âYes.â She agrees. âBeing enclosed in a small space with the people you want to see the least in the world isnât an ideal situation. Itâll be an adjustment for everyone. I trust all of your abilities to adapt, though. Just don't go in expecting things to be the way they were.â
John's hands tighten around the steering wheel, his knuckles going white. Kyle cracks his window open, prepared for the thickening of John's scent in the air. Christine knows she hit a nerve, but it needed to be said. Even if you were open to forgiveness right now, even if they had chosen to go after you right away, things still wouldn't be the same. Things won't ever be the same. It is their fault deep at the root of it. Those cameras were put up because of them, you were taken because of them. You were chosen for the âinitiativeâ because of them, because Kate thought you'd fit in well with them. Their decisions shaped your life, and will continue to shape your life.Â
Can you ever come to forgive them? Christine likes to think so. She has the hope that they can put in the work and regain your trust and earn eventual forgiveness. She knows you'll allow them to try once the initial hurt and emotions begin to fade, once the two of you put in enough work to start processing the trauma around the events that happened. It will take time. Probably a long time.Â
She'll be there every step of the way.Â
âAshley did some shopping for us, picked up some stuff to get us until we can get into town.â Kyle says, looking at his phone.Â
âGood.â John says, his shoulders starting to relax. âShould wait a couple days before going. Get settled in.â
âShe's still working on cleaning up. Probably still be there when we get there.â Kyle says, putting his phone back in his pocket.Â
âThat's fine. Weâll probably have to utilize her a bit.âÂ
âDoubt she'll complain.â Kyle says, looking out the window. âBe thrilled to have something to do besides work.âÂ
You let out a quiet groan, shifting against the door. âHurts.âÂ
âI know, honey.â Christine says, carefully adjusting your left arm. âIâll give you more pain meds once we get to the cottage.âÂ
âWeâll be there in half an hour.â John says, glancing up at the rearview mirror again before turning his eyes back to the road.Â
The half hour seems to take the longest as you continue to become more and more lucid and aware. The pain sets in first, your brain picking up on those signals before anything else. Johnâs knuckles are white around the steering wheel as you begin to whine and whimper around every bend in the road and turn he has to make, every jostle of the car. Every instinct in his body tells him to pull over and comfort you, but he canât. Itâs more important to get to the cottage, and thereâs no guarantee youâd even let him. It might make things worse.Â
The last thing you need right now is for things to get worse.Â
Christine breathes a sigh of relief as they pull up to the cottage, glad she can finally get you somewhere more comfortable. Youâve been in far too many uncomfortable positions today, moved around too much. She would have liked to keep you in Texas a couple more days, but she knew as soon as you were able to travel, the better. The sooner they could get off the grid, the better.Â
The sooner they could get out of Texas, the better.Â
Kyle is getting the wheelchair out of the trunk when Johnny and Simon pull up, not having been far behind. They likely took a turn around the back roads to ensure no one was following and to keep things from looking too suspicious.Â
Christine keeps you from slumping out of the car as she carefully opens the door on your side. Youâre more awake than you were, blinking up at her with almost startlingly aware eyes.
âCrutch.â You pout when she pulls the wheelchair closer.Â
She gives you a look. âHoney I'm not sure you could even stand right now.â You may be more aware, but that doesnât mean your body is working as it should.
You let out a defiant noise as you attempt to get your legs out of the car, trying to hide your grunts of pain and discomfort.Â
She's tempted to stand there and let you try, but she knows all hell will break loose if she lets you fall. She's not willing to take that risk, not to mention it will cause you more pain to get you up off the ground.Â
âCome on,â She says, stopping you before you can get your feet under you. âNice and slow.âÂ
You let out a quiet growl of indignation but you allow her to help you, your legs trembling as she eases you up. Kyle is there with the wheelchair, getting it as close to you as possible so she can sit you down quickly.Â
âOw.â You breathe, eyes pinched closed as you breathe through the pain.Â
âI know.â She says, patting your good shoulder lightly. She's glad she put you in the sweatshirt before you left Texas. It's chilly outside, chillier than it was further inland a few days ago.Â
It's hard to believe it's only been a few days since you were taken. Barely even a week. So much happened in such a short period of time. It feels like itâs been weeks since everything started, but then again, it had been weeks since John and Kyle first left. It had been weeks since you had been around your whole pack together by the time you were taken. The deep depression you sunk into before the events of the last week had been draining you slowly for weeks before this. It had started before John and Kyle were deployed, back to that day when you revealed the cameras and the secret you had been hiding from them.Â
How long youâve gone in such turmoil.Â
How far you still have to go.Â
The path up to the door is rocky and uneven, the wheelchair jostling as she pushes it up towards the door. She can picture your face, the way it has to be screwed up in pain. You're silent though, holding it all in. She almost wishes you weren't being silent about it.Â
The door is already open, light shining from inside as she approaches. Kyle is in the house already, having gone ahead to greet his sister. John is right behind the two of you as Christine turns to wheel you up the steps into the house. His eyes are on you, focused and ready should you fall. Â
Christine would never let you fall, and from the way your hand is gripping the arm of the chair for dear life, you probably couldn't anyway.Â
She wheels you through the entryway, the inside warmer thanks to a fire that's burning. It's a nice cottage, far nicer than she had been expecting judging from the outside.Â
Johnny lets out a low whistle as he enters behind John, looking around. âYer parents own this?âÂ
âIt was given to our mum by our grandparents. They did some...renovations before they passed it on.â Kyle says.Â
âYer tellinâ me.â Johnny says.Â
It looks new inside. New wood floors, freshly painted walls. The furniture looks like she would expect to find in an English seaside cottage, though. Kyleâs parents went to France for summer vacation instead of utilizing the cottage, and none of his siblings had wanted to use it, he told them. It looks almost perfect, like it came right out of a home renovation show. Kyleâs sister must have worked some sort of magic to get it this clean.Â
It is a very nice cottage. Itâs small, the door opening right to the main area. Thereâs two couches and a chair in the middle of the room around a coffee table. To the left of the couches is a fireplace, the fire already lit and crackling. It looks original, likely having been untouched in the renovations. Thereâs a door to the left of the fireplace closer to the main entryway. A bedroom maybe? To the right of the front door are two doors, one on the far wall and one facing the front door.Â
The stairs are in the middle of the house, leading up to the second floor where thereâs likely more bedrooms. On the far side of the main area is the dining area and beyond that is a sliding glass door. Around the corner on the far side of the stairs is likely the kitchen. She can see the fridge from where sheâs standing. Itâs new. Very new. Makes her wonder just how long ago it had been renovated.Â
âEveryone, this is my sister Ashley.â Kyle says, introducing the other woman in the room.Â
âHello,â she says, giving everyone a wave and a dazzling smile.Â
Sheâs dressed simply in jeans and a t-shirt, her medium box braids pulled up into a bun on top of her head. They look a lot alike, her and Kyle. Tall and slender and stunning. They have the same smile and the same soft brown eyes. She's wearing scent blockers, but Christine can imagine her having a soft scent like lavender or something fresh like mint.Â
âThere's two rooms down here, and two upstairs.â Kyle says. âThe main bedroom is through there.â He points towards a door to their left. âI figure we'll give that to our omega. The bathroom in there has a walk-in shower.âÂ
âPerfect.â Christine says. That will make getting you in and out of the shower easier at least, and you wonât have to go far to use the bathroom.
âYou should take the other room down here.â John says, looking at Christine. âSo you can be close in case of an emergency.â
And so you don't have to be too close to them, so you wonât feel like theyâre hovering.
He doesn't have to say that part out loud.Â
âI put new sheets on all the beds.â Ashley says. âI also picked up everything Kyle sent on the list. Food, some clothes, some other necessities.â
You let out a quiet groan, Christine patting your head gently. You have to be exhausted and sore after the day. She should give you another dose of pain medicine like she said she would. Youâre going to need it tonight.Â
âLet's get you laying down for a bit.â She says, wheeling you towards the door.Â
Kyle opens it for her, revealing a spacious room with a big window looking out towards the sea. You're going to spend a lot of time in front of that window, she thinks. The bed is in the middle of the room, and thereâs two chairs facing the window. Sheâs almost tempted to sit you in one of the chairs, but laying down will be more comfortable for you right now.Â
You're still too out of it now to care much as she wheels you to the double bed. With Kyle's help they get you horizontal, Christine draping the blanket at the end of the bed over you. Itâs not very soft, but it will do for now. Sheâll have to get the guys to pick up some soft blankets for you when they go to town. She has a whole list of things starting in her head she needs them to pick up.
She leans your crutch against the end of the bed just in case you might need it for an emergency. She hopes youâll yell first, but you always have been stubborn. Being mostly bed-bound has only made that worse.Â
âIâm going to go look through the things Ashley picked up.â She says, patting your leg gently. âGet some rest.âÂ
Christine leaves the door open a crack as she exits, wanting to give you a little privacy as you nap, or at least she hopes youâll nap. Itâs going to be a rough adjustment, and youâre going to need as much rest as you can get.Â
âIâm assuming youâre Christine.â Ashley says, walking up to her.Â
âI am.â She says, giving Ashley a smile.Â
She canât help but get lost in Ashleyâs soft gaze for a moment. The Garrick siblings seem to share the same magnetic energy. Thereâs something almost ethereal about them. She could easily imagine them with glowing halos and angel wings. Itâs almost like sheâs being blessed with the opportunity to look upon her. She could spend an hour staring at Ashleyâs face and not grow tired of looking at her.
âI picked up the items Kyle said you needed.â She says, motioning to the bags on the coffee table, pulling Christine out of her daze. âI couldnât find the exact nutrient powder you asked for, so I got one that was as close as I could find.âÂ
Christine glances through the bags. She was thorough, getting at least two of everything.Â
âI got warmer clothes for her too, since it can get chilly out here this time of year. Just some simple things for now until you guys get into town.â Ashley says. âI did some research too and I read that omegas like comforting things so I picked up some extra blankets and pillowsâ Ashley says, motioning to a couple bags sitting on the couch. âI also picked up this,â She pulls a stuffed dog from one of the bags, holding it up. âIt was the softest one I could find. I thought it might help.âÂ
A small smile forms on Christineâs face, her heart fluttering in her chest from the sweet, thoughtful gesture. Ashley doesnât even know you, nor did she know exactly what happened to you, and yet she went so far as to pick up some comfort items for you. You have nothing right now, only the borrowed clothes on your back. All of your belongings are still on base, all of the things that you had built to make your perfect nest. Would you want any of them still? Or have they been tainted by the events of the last few weeks?Â
That Ashley thought to do this has warmth flooding Christineâs body. You can have some comfort now without having to wait for their trip to town. She almost feels the urge to cry. She wants to hug Ashley, thank her over and over for her kindness. Ashley has no idea how much her small act of kindness means, how much it's going to mean.Â
A smile forms on Christineâs face as she stares at the stuffed dog. âItâs perfect.âÂ

You can hear it.Â
In the distance, the quiet roar reaches your ears as youâre dragged from the sweet arms of sleep. It must be a dream, or perhaps the sedative is still clinging to your mind, making you imagine things.Â
No.Â
Youâd know that sound anywhere.Â
The effort to push yourself up to sit is a momentous one, every cell in your body protesting after a day of being moved and jostled. The last thing you want is to move right now, but you have to.Â
The pain meds have done little to help.
The crutch at the end of your bed must be a thousand miles away as you sit there and stare at it. The ache in your body only increases as you become more and more aware of the pain, almost as if it can tell what it is your mind is planning.Â
The door is cracked open, letting in a slit of light from outside. Itâs dark in the room, the curtains pulled over the window. Itâs a blessing compared to the bright yellow light outside the door. You welcome the darkness as your head begins to throb. You could call for assistance. Youâd get more help than you needed. More help than you want.Â
No.Â
You need to do this.Â
The effort it takes to get standing nearly sends you back onto the bed. The pain nearly blinds you as your feet touch the floor, your body leaning against the side of the mattress out of desperation. If you fall, youâll never be alone again. You canât afford that. You donât want that.Â
If you fall, youâll never get up again.Â
The breaths out of your nose are short and sharp as you reach for the crutch, fingers trembling in the effort to fight the pain threatening to blind you. Youâre trembling like a leaf in a storm as your fingers finally wrap around the cool metal. The rubber bottom drags across the floor as you tug it over to you, holding it against your chest for a moment.Â
Breathe. Thatâs what you need to do. Breathe.Â
In and out.Â
Nice and slow.Â
The pain is only a memory. The pain is nothing. The memories forming at the edges of your mind will take over and wipe out the pain and the misery. You just have to be sure. You just have to be certain.
You push yourself upright using the crutch, tucking it under your arm. You should go back to bed. You should rest.Â
No.Â
You need to know.Â
You need to be certain.
The first step you take nearly makes you sick.Â
Itâs like watching a baby deer walk for the first time, knees wobbling, feet shaking. You lean heavily on the crutch, your determination the only thing keeping you from tumbling to the floor in a heap. That might almost hurt worse than forcing yourself to stand upright.Â
If you fall, youâll never get up again.Â
Inch by inch you move across the floor, silently grateful for the socks on your feet. They allow you to slide across the hardwood, but they also pose a threat. Slide too far and youâll lose your feet.Â
If you fall, youâll never get up again.Â
The determination and your desire for certainty is what keeps you sliding inch by inch across the floor towards that strip of blinding light in front of you. Itâs hovering before you, threatening you. How do you know thereâs not one of them standing guard, waiting for you to try and leave? You canât know. You donât have a clue whatâs waiting on the other side of that door. It could be nothing. It could be your entire pack.Â
Breathe.Â
In and out.Â
You take a moment at the door, resting your aching feet. Your body is throbbing from the effort to keep yourself upright, the sedative still numbing your brain and your movements. Itâs like treading through honey, everything twice as hard as it should be. You can walk. Youâve done it before. You did it in the medical center.Â
You can do it here.Â
You use the crutch to push the door open more, your free arm still tucked in a sling to keep you from moving it. Reaching for it with that arm would have put you on the floor, would have caused more pain than you needed, would have made you fall.Â
If you fall, youâll never get up again.Â
Breathe.Â
The light burns. Explosions of yellows and whites erupt behind your eyelids as you screw them tight against the sudden onslaught. The sun is in the room, shining its rays directly into your sensitive eyes. Your stomach churns, your fingers tightening around the crutch so tight your knuckles begin to ache. The oppressive light makes you want to recede back into the darkness of the room behind you like a vampire shying away from the light of day.Â
No.Â
You wonât be defeated by the harsh artificial lighting. You need to know.Â
You need to be certain.
The others are moving around. You can hear voices around the corner, voices upstairs with thudding footsteps. The air is thick with a mesh of scents, cleaning chemicals, and the burn of scent blocker. Your nose wrinkles at the sudden onslaught against your senses, your sedated brain making it all seem so much worse.Â
You need to know.Â
The hardwood floors continue and you use them to your advantage as you shuffle your way across the main area. The fire crackles as you pass, the popping of a log making you startle. Your feet slide again, your body pushing up against the crutch to hold yourself steady.Â
If you fall, youâll never get up again.Â
Your target is dead ahead, a mile away but so close you can almost taste it. Just past the dining table and straight on till morning.Â
Despite your snailâs pace, no one seems to notice you shuffling your way across the house. It should make you upset, the fact that none of them notice you moving around, but instead it makes you glad. Theyâd try to stop you if they noticed you, turn you around and shuffle you back to bed. Or worse, theyâd carry you.Â
How easily you could slip away, though.Â
Well...in theory.Â
Perhaps thatâs why they âre not paying you any mind. How far could you really go in your current state?Â
Why would you want to stray from the only safe space you have?Â
The world outside is more dangerous with the state youâre in. Not just because of your injuries and your status, but also because you know Shepherd is still out there, and for all you know Graves is as well.Â
He could be waiting right outside the door.Â
No.Â
Theyâd know.Â
Theyâd protect you.Â
They failed.Â
You push past the fear in favor of certainty as you push forward, passing the dining table in your slow crawl towards the sliding glass door.Â
It poses an entirely new threat as you stand before it, staring out the darkened glass. You have to get it open. Getting it open takes strength and youâre down to one hand thatâs trying to keep you upright.Â
You have to know.Â
You have to be certain.Â
You lean your weight on the crutch, ignoring the way it digs into your armpit as you reach for the handle. You click the lock, wrapping your fingers around the plastic before pulling. Your body screams with pain as you tug, the door sliding in the track as slowly as you had moved across the small living area. Itâs almost as if it's mocking you.Â
Itâs open only as wide as you need to crutch your way through, doing your best not to knock your left shoulder against the frame.Â
If you fall, youâll never get up again.Â
Breathe.Â
You can smell it.Â
The salty sea air invades your senses, slipping up through your nose and straight into your brain. Memories come flooding back of childhood vacations back when things were simpler. Back when nothing mattered but the sand and the water and avoiding getting chased by your brothers carrying the piece of seaweed they found.Â
Polkadot bathing suits, bright red to be seen easily. Toes in the water, sand everywhere. The nap in the silent car home.Â
How simple life was back then. How easy life was.Â
Your heart aches for those days again. The days when you could exist without a care in the world, trusting your pack would keep you safe, trusting your family would care for you. Your mind yearns for that sense of safety and security again.Â
The world is grey as you hobble across the porch, the grey seeming to go on forever. You missed it, the chill in the air, the gloomy grey overhead. How you yearned for the gloom of England while stuck in the heat of Texas.Â
Anything is better than Texas.Â
Your forward shuffle pauses at the edge of the deck, your eyes looking out into the grey. Your breath catches in your throat as you stare out into the distance, the ache in your chest intensifying. It blocks out the pain in your body, numbing you to everything else as you stand there, legs trembling from the effort of going the short distance from your room to the end of the porch.Â
You can see it.Â
Emotions swirl inside of you like a hurricane as you stare out where the grey water meets the grey sky in the line of the horizon. Those emotions threaten to choke you as you stand there trembling at the edge of the porch. Thereâs a breeze, a cold one that bites through the fabric of your sweatshirt and into the skin below, but you donât care.Â
You canât care.Â
Your legs shake from the exertion, the neverending exhaustion thatâs settled deep into your bones. Itâs not just a physical exhaustion, but a mental one as well. Itâs been a long week.Â
Only a week.Â
So much has happened in a week.Â
You want to sit. You want to sink down onto the porch and rest.Â
If you fall, youâll never get up again.Â
Thereâs a pain in your chest as your breath catches in your throat. The emotions are whirling, tightening around your chest, squeezing your lungs until they feel like they might pop.Â
Breathe.Â
In and out.Â
You needed certainty. You needed to know.Â
You can hear it. You can smell it. You can see it.Â
A single tear rolls down your cheek as you stare out at the sea.Â

JULY REC FICS
Hello, my sweets!! I wanted to try something out to provide my full and utter support to all the amazing writers I've come across in the form of monthly rec fics (starting this month). Join me in giving them love through comments and reblogs. It really is a joy to hear how you're doing as a writer. It makes up for all the angst we write lol
I will be going based on what I've read recently and not by the date the fic was posted. And the number of fics will depend on how much I've read the entire month. Also, please respect these writers. Some contents are 18+, so MINORS should not be interacting in any way, especially when the authors themselves specify it.
â âż â âż âż â âż âż âż
Spencer Reid

ŕ¨ŕ§ English is not my first language, so I regret in advance if something reads weird or is misspelled
ŕ¨ŕ§ Thank you so much for the support on the first oneshot, this is mostly fluff because I have to heal the wounds in my heart that arc two left behind.
ŕ¨ŕ§ I'm still learning how to use masterlists and stuff (đż) but you can send me requests if you want! For now I'm only going to write about Ekko (or until I learn how to use tumblr) then I'll post the list of characters I could write for.

The Firelightsâ hideout always felt alive, even in its quietest moments, but your little corner was a chaos. It was where you crafted, creating not just the masks that symbolized your rebellion but tiny pieces of identity for your comrades.
"Something like this?" you asked, holding up a rough sketch for the recruit seated across from you. He was new to the team and still shy around most people, but with you, he seemed to relax, likely due to your welcoming demeanor.
âYeah, thatâs cool,â he said, leaning in to inspect it. "But, uh, could you make the eyes a little bigger? I want it to look more⌠intense."
âIntense. Got it.â You jotted down the adjustment in the margins, smiling as you worked. âAnything else?â
The recruit hesitated for a moment before glancing at you sheepishly. âSo, uh, are you Ekkoâs girl? Like⌠his girlfriend?â
The question caught you so off guard that the pencil slipped from your fingers. Heat bloomed in your cheeks, and you scrambled to compose yourself.
âOh! Uh, yeah. I meanâyes. I am.â
The recruit grinned.
âThought so. He talks about you all the time.â
Your heart did a funny little flip, equal parts warmth and embarrassment.
âHe does?â
âYeah. Like, a lot. Youâd think you hung the moon or somethingâ
The boyâs teasing tone made you flush deeper. Before you could decide whether to be mortified or flattered, another voice broke through.
âHey! Ekkoâs looking for you!â A little boy poked his head in the door, oblivious to the conversation he was interrupting. âSaid itâs important.â
âOh, okay. Thanks.â You turned back to the recruit, already rising to your feet. âIâve got everything I need for your mask. Iâll start on it soon.â
âTake your time,â he replied, giving you a knowing look as you walked out.
He nodded, and with a small wave, you left the workshop and made your way to Ekkoâs space.
The closer you got to Ekkoâs workshop, the quieter the base became, the energy from the rest of the Firelights retreating into the distance. You pushed the door open cautiously, only to find the room eerily calm. The usual clatter of tools and the whir of machinery were absent.
When you stepped inside the workshop, the quiet was almost eerie. Tools and half-built gadgets lay scattered across Ekkoâs workbench, but there was no sign of him.
âEkko?â you called, glancing around.
No answer.
A small knot of worry tightened in your chest.
âIf this is a joke, itâs not funnyââ
Before you could finish, arms wrapped around you from behind, lifting you off the ground. You let out a startled yelp as you were spun around, your voice mixing with laughter that bubbled up despite yourself.
âEkko!â you cried, trying to sound indignant, but failing miserably as he set you down, his grin impossibly wide. âYou scared the life out of me, you jerk!â
âCouldnât resist,â he admitted, still chuckling. His voice carried that familiar mix of playfulness and warmth that always made your heart skip a beat. He leaned in and planted a quick kiss on your cheek. âYouâre cute when youâre mad.â
You swatted at his arm, trying to suppress a smile.
âWhat did you need me for, anyway? And donât say it was just to scare me.â
âRelax, Firefly,â he teased, stepping back. âIâve got something for you. Close your eyes.â
You narrowed your eyes suspiciously.
âIf this is another prankââ
âItâs not,â he said quickly, raising his hands in mock surrender. âPromise. Just trust me.â
After a brief hesitation, you sighed and shut your eyes.
âOkay, but if you throw something at meââ
âShh. No peeking.â
You heard him moving around, the soft clang of metal and the scrape of something being picked up. Your curiosity burned, but you kept your eyes closed, hands fidgeting nervously at your sides.
âAlright,â Ekko said finally. âOpen.â
When you did, your breath caught. In his hands was a bouquet of flowers, but not just any flowersâeach one was intricately crafted from scrap metal, their petals shaped and welded together with incredible precision. They shimmered faintly in the light, their edges polished to a soft gleam.
âI made these for you,â Ekko said, his voice quieter now, as if he wasnât sure how youâd react. His smile, though, was radiant, the little gap in his front teeth only adding to its charm. âYou like them?â
âLike them?â you echoed, reaching out to take the bouquet. âEkko, theyâre beautiful. You made these?â
He scratched the back of his neck, looking both proud and bashful.
âYeah. Thought youâd appreciate something⌠different. Real flowers donât last long down hereâ
You turned the bouquet in your hands, marveling at the craftsmanship. Each flower was unique, and the care heâd put into them was evident in every detail. Your chest felt tight with emotion as you looked back at him.
âWhy, though? Whatâs the occasion?â
Ekkoâs grin returned, mischievous but endearing.
âThe right way to ask my girlfriend out on a date. Tonight.â
Your lips parted in surprise.
âA date?â
âYeah. Thought it was time we did something just for us. No missions. Just you and me.â He stepped closer, his gaze locked on yours. âSo, what do you say?â
A warm, fuzzy silence hung between you, the weight of his words and the sincerity in his eyes tying your tongue. Your gaze flicked to his lips, the same thought clearly mirrored in his mind as he leaned closer.
The moment stretched as the world outside seemed to blur and fade. Just as your lips were about to meetâ
âOh, uh, sorry!â
Both you and Ekko jumped apart as the recruit from earlier barged in, a sheepish look on his face.
âI justâuhâI had another idea for the mask and thoughtââ
Ekko sighed loudly, his previous grumpiness overtaking his usual charm.
âSeriously?â
âIâll justâuhâleaveâ the recruit stammered, already retreating back through the door.
You chuckled softly, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear.
âItâs fine,â you told him. âWe can talk about it later.â
You couldnât help but laugh, the tension melting away as you stepped back.
âGuess weâll have to finish this later, huh?â
Ekkoâs pout was almost comical.
âYou owe me, Firefly.â
As you turned to leave, you blew him a playful kiss. Ekko grinned, pretending to catch it in midair and press it to his chest.
âSee you later.â

FINALE - You might want to read the propaganda this time. Lots of misinfo in fandom on these two in particular.
Remember, this is NOT about who would win in a fight. This is about who makes the best leader for Mandalore as a whole.
Explanation post
Seeding
Propaganda below the cut! You can submit more on this post and I will reblog it back to here! I was going to keep the text-only bits above the readmore, but we got enough in that it takes up more space than I thought.
Yes, I will even reblog the stuff based on fanon, but I will judge you for it.
SATINE KRYZE
Anon: Satine because she served. Mandalorian fashion week would love her. Manda'slay.
Anon: Satine Propaganda: Was supported by the STRONG MAJORITY, led Mandalore to be in peace for NEARLY 20 YEARS, didn't ban mando'a or armour or any part of the culture like fandom claims, is a good fighter, considered EVERY Mandalorian a Mandalorian and didn't discriminate
@lightsaberwieldingdalek: Satine propaganda: she actually ran a functioning government. Not a mercenary band, or a death cult, or a terrorist extremist organisation, an actual functioning government. Yes there was corruption, corruption she did her best to stop to the point of personally getting in firefights with smugglers, but she took a planet devastated by civil war and by the end of her rule she had schools, public works, and a justice system. - Sure, the rest can run military operations (and we donât know Satine couldnât, only that she *wonât*) but can they make the bins get emptied regularly to go to the recycling plants?
@lightsaberwieldingdalek: I understand Jaster has the tacticool appeal, and has the iconic armour, but guys. He did an interpretation of some problematic historical values for the more modern day, led a mercenary band, and under unknown circumstances his group started calling him the historical-cultural title of the ruler of their entire cultural group. I know heâs cool looking, and shoots real good, but at most heâs the equivalent of someone who could be a cult leader but doesnât want to be. - Meanwhile. Satine. You have issues with her ethical code, and sheâs not a cool cause she doesnât wear the armour. And yet she is the one who *actually ran mandalore*. For 20-ish years, and not only kept it stable but built it up from the ruins of civil war! - Yes yes T-helmet cool and military man competence nice, but that cannot equal taking the ruins of a war torn society and turning it into a mostly peaceful (when terrorism happened it was a big shocking deal, not normalised) urbanised people who eat well, have access to luxury and specialised education (get a offworld Jedi to come lecture) and can ACTUALLY BREATH IN THE ATMOSPHERE RUINED BY ALL THE WARLORDS LIKE JASTER TRYING TO FIGHT THE REPUBLIC TO PROVE THEMSELVES.
Anon: Satine propaganda: she knows what the aftermath of war is like. Jaster knows war from a soldier's perspective, a commander's perspective. But Satine knows it from a noncombatant's perspective. She's seen the aftermath and wreckage it leaves behind. Rebuilding after a war takes far longer and likely costs more than the war itself. I don't think Jaster cares about what happens after the battle. But Satine most certainly does.
@archangelsunited: Efficient and long lasting leader of her faction for years, was able to navigate neutrality with the Republic during the Clone Wars. Excellent Hair pieces.
@publiusmaximum: She allowed her society to experience it's first moment of peace and prosperity in a thousand years. - After she was killed, her society was taken over by fascists and gangsters. In short order Mandalore was razed, made uninhabitable, and her people scattered. - Satine was right about everything.
JASTER MEREEL
Anon: Jaster is the one who should rule Mandalore and all Mandalorians, although he started small he searched to make a new code of conduct for Mandalorian bounty hunters, he tries to keep the culture intact yet keep Mandalore progressive and not stuck in the past and from killing each other.
@spacetime1969: He literally rewrote what it means to be Mandalorian, and he created an entire movement around said philosophy that had a good chance of becoming the controlling party of Mandalore if he hadn't been assassinated. What more do you want?
Anon: Jaster for the win, he's the most recent one who actually knows some shit (as much as I love Din Djarin this poor man doesn't know ANYTHING), besides Jango and Boba but they're both very unstable individuals.
@nerdpickle: Jaster, his philosophy perfectly balanced tradition and reform, keeping the best of both worlds, he was also one of the few people chosen by the people
Mereel is a strong and powerful leader. He defeated the traiter Tor Viszla in battle and even took in a poor, orphaned Concordian child after the battle. No more will Mandalore be forced to consider such petty ideals as peace in order to avoid outright war. Instead, we shall be known throughout the galaxy as the greatest mercenaries the galaxy has ever known. Under his rule, we shall triumph over the foolish savages of planets unconquered and be paid handsomely for it!

@archangelsunited: Had a structured document for Mandalorian Culture in the modern (tm) day. He fought with the warriors he sent out and took personal interest in the results of his actions (Jango Fett mentorship). Pissed off Tor Vizla.
@nerdpickle: Satineâs Mandalore was like Switzerland, except without the well trained military, incredibly advantageous terrain, high gun ownership and giant nuclear armed alliance providing a free buffer zone on all sides.
SATINE
@bosooka: Originally here
i wrote way too much for my original draft of this (and it turned into a "fuck jaster mereel" party) so here's an abbreviated version
Why Satine is a Better Ruler Than Jaster in 2 Simple Points
Point #1: Satine actually maintained order on Mandalore for decades
This one is simple. Mereel became Mandalore in ~60BBY and Tor Vizsla tried to overthrow him a mere two years later (and nearly succeeded). He was only in power for six more years before he was betrayed by the very same violent people he allowed to remain by his side because of his belief that a Mandalorian warrior was "merely a highly-paid soldier".
Contrast Satine: ruled from approx. 42BBY until 19BBY, a reign of 23-odd years. For twenty-odd years of her reign New Mandalore was completely peaceful and there were no challengers to her authority among the people or elsewhere. Death Watch only became an issue again when they received Separatist (and ultimately Sith) backing, and Dooku discarded them for being useless. Had Death Watch not allied itself with Maul's Shadow Collective I don't think she would have been overthrown at all.
Point #2: Satine kept Mandalore out of places it didn't belong
As we've established, Mereel had no issues with Mandalorians being mercenaries, used however their clients saw fit. I won't go into the weeds of the ethical implications of mercenaries and why they are illegal under international law on Earth, but in short: letting anyone pay one to kill others is the easiest way to become the cudgel of a fascist. Coincidentally exactly what the Fett clones become when Sidious uses them to exterminate the Jedi. Mereel's "reforms" of the Mandalorian ways did not prevent his troops from getting into a fight they couldn't win against the Jedi on Galidraan (and yes, the Mandalorians shot first:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4a066b5bbf54b12dd620fbbe44dc36fa/1f069ddd4b1e9575-e2/s540x810/7f66a74c1ef32716f4fab62811b7cb577865aefc.jpg)
not that anyone in the fandom remembers this...) after they but an insurrection down on behalf of the corrupt governor of the planet. To be clear, the True Mandos knew that the governor of Galidraan was corrupt and most likely harboring Tor Vizsla, but they still agreed to kill "insurrectionists" for money. Their problems came when Death Watch arranged to make it look like they had also killed women and children. Truly a war between saints and monsters.
Meanwhile Satine: the head of the Council of Neutral Systems, she refused to take sides in a war pushed by the greedy and violent. Yes, she was briefly protected by clones when it comes to light that Death Watch is aligned with the Separatists, but it was immediately followed by the Republic attempting to militarily occupy Mandalore and Satine risking life and limb to keep her people autonomous. Satine refused to become a useful idiot for warmongers, even knowing that it would have been economically advantageous for her to do so. Unlike Jaster Mereel, she has ideals that she values more than credits. He would have accepted an offer from the highest bidder and turned Mandalore into a machine of war for the Sith, just like his Crusader ancestors once did.
Tl;Dr
Satine was actually respected as an authority on Mandalore for literal decades and was only challenged by a miniscule faction of terrorists who had to get foreigners to interfere in their political processes (FML) in order to actually take power from her
Satine kept Mandalore out of conflicts it did not belong in, which largely protected it from military occupation and destruction until the year she died; Mereel made a career out of interfering in the affairs of other planets if they were paid to do so
Unlike Mereel and his successor, Satine had morals to motivate her decisions that were not the pursuit of cold hard cash, including the protection of Mandalorian independence and neutrality

Beware clickbait accusations
Hi fandom, here's what happened yesterday: A reporter named Rachel Johnson, who is the sister to Boris Johnson and a big terfy supporter of JK Rowling, released a 4-part true crime podcast featuring two women accusing Neil Gaiman of SA. Yesterday. The day before the UK elections. This post explores the possible political links in more detail.
CW: this post is free of graphic details, but if you follow these links, there may be explicit descriptions of sex, kink, and bdsm, plus mentions of mental illness and suicidal thoughts.
I want to believe and support survivors, and I also want to base my thoughts and actions on facts. I thought the xitter livestream commentary from Not Becky for all 4 episodes was very insightful. There's also a first episode transcript without extra commentary. (Edit: released after I wrote this post: the full audio plus transcripts for all four episodes of the podcast are now available to download here, or you can read all four transcripts in your browser.) I have since concluded (pending more time to think and read and learn, or any new information, of course):
This seems like the worst kind of clickbait, an unjustified mess that will hurt everyone involved (except possibly a few politicians who might benefit somehow, we'll see). The evidence the "reporters" present directly contradicts their accusations. They're counting on people reading headlines and not digging any deeper.
They tried to make something sinister where there was apparently consent and a caring relationship. Have they exploited one or both of these women? S, in particular, is described as vulnerable and with a history of unspecified mental illness. They have all of the message history between S and Neil, and her messages make the sexy stuff between the two of them sound enthusiastically consensual. There are even messages (multiple!) where she specifically says everything was consensual. Here's one:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f3c8a4f3b9a36a30a7b6dcba718e0a82/69ddd2dd44eb7753-6c/s540x810/f75d6221649f39533d2a09abeaca34aa7e78b0df.jpg)
They're playing horror music in the background to try to make us feel horrified, even as S reassures us that things were consensual. It's emotional manipulation by the reporters.
The times S sounds upset during the interview are the times she talks about Neil leaving her behind or not paying attention to her. Not the times she talks about consent violations. Her stories during the interview are inconsistent, and they contradict her messages with Neil and with others. Maybe we'll get better information from a more reputable news source, or maybe not, I don't know. I also don't know why anyone who cares about her would have advised her to do this interview.
Then they tracked down lots of other women who know/have dated Neil and they all had glowing things to say, except one other lover from 20 years ago, K. She described some bad sex, and then pointed to a time in their 2-year relationship when she felt something wasn't consensual and he thought it was. And after their breakup, they continued to text and flirt, for decades.
This podcast "exposĂŠ" feels like explosive clickbait with political ramifications. The evidence here doesn't support a pattern of poor conduct so much as establish Neil as a fellow well-meaning human with imperfect judgement. That doesn't mean the accusations are all made up; intimate partner violence is complicated, and the responsibility for checking in and getting regular enthusiastic consent from partners is very real, especially when kink or bdsm are involved.
I don't know what the right balance is here between supporting survivors, thinking critically, assuming good intentions, and waiting for better information, but I feel confident that this podcast alone is not enough to condemn anyone aside from the irresponsible journalists who inflicted it on the rest of us.
PS/edit: I'm tagging my relevant posts (mostly reblogs) with #ineffable grief, and you can see all of them here.
