Does anyone use thermal printers to make your own stickers? And I'm talking like, drawn stuff, not stuff done on Canva stuff. Do you just make the canvas the same size as the sticker and print it as a PDF or PNG?
#i bought a thermal printer and my thermal labels arrived but im not sure how these work aside from#shipping label printing#i wanna do cool stuff w it :3#etc

I want to buy a sticker from your shop, but shipping (to Canada) is down as $22 before tax. May I ask why it costs so much to ship a single sticker? Is it Etsy being weird, or does it really cost that much to send an envelope over the border?
I'm not trying to be snarky or passive aggressive or anything, I'm genuinely just kind of befuddled atm.
A fair question honestly! USPS sets the rates for international shipping, and shipping to canada really is about that expensive 😭 I considered sending stickers via envelopes, but 1. if I send them with a stamp (less than $2) they don't have tracking, and etsy Does Not Like That. I gotta send packages with shipping to qualify for star seller, plus it covers your ass in case USPS loses it. and 2. apparently it's illegal to send merchandise internationally in envelopes!! so sadly we're all stuck dealing with the super crazy international rates. I don't like it either because as someone who deals in trinkets, people generally do not want to pay $16 for a charm that costs $12, and they especially don't want to pay that for a sticker that costs $4... I would ABSOLUTELY have way more international sales if USPS wasn't fucking us with the prices but it's out of my control dssdjkfjksdf
I give this advice a lot, but if you don't want to pay international shipping (or just live in a country I don't ship to myself), you can borrow the address of a friend that lives in the states and they can forward it to you! I don't actually know if this is cheaper, but some people have said it is. it's def cheaper for stickers though if your friend uses a stamp!
TL;DR yeah etsy and USPS are Both Weird, sorry ; - ; i assure you i hate it even More than you do lmao
#etsy#not art#ask#anonymous#anon#i think i actually did have like three canadian sticker orders last week all in the same day#one of them ordered multiple stickers but two were just. One. and i'm like. you guys are either rich or crazy but either way i respect it#even US shipping is getting more and more expensive. five years ago i'd pay 2.80 to ship a 1 oz first class package#now its almost $4. even just over $4 if i ship to like California or something!#i'm gonna put a general PSA here to please not be too upset with small businesses' shipping rates even in the US#not to imply anon is or that anybody has said anything! but i do see like tiktoks and social media comments#on Other People's Pages saying like OMG $5 SHIPPING??? INSANE I'M NOT PAYING THAT#amazon has spoiled you guys sorry. shipping isn't free. not only do i have to pay for the shipping label#i have to pay for my bubble mailers. my envelopes. the thermal labels i print on. i recycle my bubble wrap at least but i have to pay#for materials as well. so this seems like a good place to mention it#frankly i shouldn't even have the stupid 'free shipping over $35' thing because again shipping is like $4 give or take 30c by location#but etsy makes me and it Does bring in sales so i'll pretend it balances out

Now I'm curious, what happened to your keyboard? And in which conditions is it now? 👀👀
Oh, so from last September (i think) through December, I had typed so much on my keyboard that the E key and the space bar stopped working and others were fiddly with about a 50/50 chance of working, I ended up getting a new laptop (first one in 8 years) as a Christmas present to myself and so far it is holding up better, but I'm absolutely going to put it through it's paces lol
#tanco speaks#ask#asks#im a bitch that uses electronics until they melt#i still use the old laptop#i have it hooked up to my thermal printer so its always there ready to print my shipping labels!#my best friend also had to use it over the weekend because they forgot theirs and needed theif character sheet for dnd#as long as you dont type it works fine if a little slow because i havent updated it lately

guys should i get a kids thermal print camera....... they're not that expensive all things considered .............
#split between 'decent print quality' and 'doubles as an mp3 player' right now i think#like sure i COULD get one that functions for how i'll use it (shitty photography). but it could also play music#whisp whispers#having games on the camera is also really funny 2me . also the idea of being able to say like. yeah this was taken on uhh .#yeah those uh. the kids cameras yk the ones with like. games built in? yeah. yeah they do photo printing#like it's cheaper than a halfway decent point&shoot and FAR cheaper than literally any normal instant printing camera#are they thermal paper? yes. will they fade in like. five years. yeah probably.#however. like a thirty dollar camera. prints pictures. the film is like $2/roll and prints over a hundred pictures a roll.#it's small and portable. etc#just should i be allowed to put music on it ..........#if i could tell if headphones connect then it would be for sure mp3 functionality but i cant tell if they do or not#so it's like. well i could take the hit to printer quality and be able to play music but the risk there is that everyone has to hear said#music. so what's even the point. at that point i'll just play snake on my camera or smthn /silly

fucking. bless. the semi-annual local big tent tag sale held by the guy who runs a business cleaning out houses
we've been going for years (since before it moved to the next town over) but we've never scored a haul like we did today, which included a lot of really amazing shit but also one absolutely unbelievable, holy grail type find
we were browsing one of the vendor booths when @sadish-radish noticed a large cardboard box on the ground with Japanese text all over it, which they told me they started sounding out for fun before seeing that it also said RISO in English. they grabbed me & pointed, i made A Big Sound & the vendor said "do you know what that is?" in that tone of voice people use when they think they might be meeting another hyper-specific nerd
friends, it was a Gocco kit, with two printers (the B5, which was on the box, but also the B6) & everything else you'd need to use it (ink, flashbulbs, master screens, filters, etc.) - literally probably $1K worth of material all together because you just can't find this stuff & it has such a cult following among artists & zinesters around the world
and then she basically just gave it to us (i paid $10 for everything, for some reason she was asking $9) because she "just wanted it to go to a good home with someone who would use it" (we will ABSOLUTELY use it). the vendor said she was getting a little teary just thinking about it being loved again, i was feeling like i was gonna pass out
& having inventoried everything at this point i'm feeling like we just met the angel of printmaking
#we own!!!! a riso home printing kit!!!!!#we are going to have a riso party!!!!!!!!#i've been reading about hacks for making new master screens using a thermal printer & risograph roll#because uh. it is not affordable to continue to use actual gocco consumables#like just go look at B5 master screens on ebay#no fucking way#bless laurel for actually knowing about the gocco because i only knew about the risograph copy machine!#they had read about it years ago & though 'wow so cool too bad we'll never even see one'

I found some adhesive paper for my cheap little thermal printer, which means I can turn any image on my phone into a little b&w sticker. And that, in turn, means that I'm probably going to cover all my belongings in stickers.
(This one is from the set of Nijiyon communication stickers for LINE; I used a paint pen to color in Yu's declaration, "Hitori dake nante erabenai yo!!!" : "How do you expect me to choose just one?")
