For anyone interested: you can buy one of these thermal printers on most of the online shop fronts (like eBay), usually for less than 20$. They are mostly standardised to a paper 57 mm wide, which you can also get online for the cheap. It's eminently portable, and the battery lasts a surprising amount of time (at least for me). It prints best black&white pictures, but anything with good contrast works, and as you can see, even smaller text remains legible. So you can print agitprop at home and on the go, and if you are feeling really fancy (and have the spoons for that kind of thing), you can even assemble larger works out of fragments, because, again, the sticker paper is dirt cheap. For text, I use an app called Phonto which will provide you with all the tools to turn images to agitprop. It gives you a good amount of options for the text, and even lets you install additional fonts (not something I take for granted with mobile phone apps).
But even better, you can also print cute little stickers for your significant others.

Does anyone use thermal printers to make your own stickers? And I'm talking like, drawn stuff, not stuff done on Canva stuff. Do you just make the canvas the same size as the sticker and print it as a PDF or PNG?

I want to buy a sticker from your shop, but shipping (to Canada) is down as $22 before tax. May I ask why it costs so much to ship a single sticker? Is it Etsy being weird, or does it really cost that much to send an envelope over the border?
I'm not trying to be snarky or passive aggressive or anything, I'm genuinely just kind of befuddled atm.
A fair question honestly! USPS sets the rates for international shipping, and shipping to canada really is about that expensive 😭 I considered sending stickers via envelopes, but 1. if I send them with a stamp (less than $2) they don't have tracking, and etsy Does Not Like That. I gotta send packages with shipping to qualify for star seller, plus it covers your ass in case USPS loses it. and 2. apparently it's illegal to send merchandise internationally in envelopes!! so sadly we're all stuck dealing with the super crazy international rates. I don't like it either because as someone who deals in trinkets, people generally do not want to pay $16 for a charm that costs $12, and they especially don't want to pay that for a sticker that costs $4... I would ABSOLUTELY have way more international sales if USPS wasn't fucking us with the prices but it's out of my control dssdjkfjksdf
I give this advice a lot, but if you don't want to pay international shipping (or just live in a country I don't ship to myself), you can borrow the address of a friend that lives in the states and they can forward it to you! I don't actually know if this is cheaper, but some people have said it is. it's def cheaper for stickers though if your friend uses a stamp!
TL;DR yeah etsy and USPS are Both Weird, sorry ; - ; i assure you i hate it even More than you do lmao

Now I'm curious, what happened to your keyboard? And in which conditions is it now? 👀👀
Oh, so from last September (i think) through December, I had typed so much on my keyboard that the E key and the space bar stopped working and others were fiddly with about a 50/50 chance of working, I ended up getting a new laptop (first one in 8 years) as a Christmas present to myself and so far it is holding up better, but I'm absolutely going to put it through it's paces lol

fucking. bless. the semi-annual local big tent tag sale held by the guy who runs a business cleaning out houses
we've been going for years (since before it moved to the next town over) but we've never scored a haul like we did today, which included a lot of really amazing shit but also one absolutely unbelievable, holy grail type find
we were browsing one of the vendor booths when @sadish-radish noticed a large cardboard box on the ground with Japanese text all over it, which they told me they started sounding out for fun before seeing that it also said RISO in English. they grabbed me & pointed, i made A Big Sound & the vendor said "do you know what that is?" in that tone of voice people use when they think they might be meeting another hyper-specific nerd
friends, it was a Gocco kit, with two printers (the B5, which was on the box, but also the B6) & everything else you'd need to use it (ink, flashbulbs, master screens, filters, etc.) - literally probably $1K worth of material all together because you just can't find this stuff & it has such a cult following among artists & zinesters around the world
and then she basically just gave it to us (i paid $10 for everything, for some reason she was asking $9) because she "just wanted it to go to a good home with someone who would use it" (we will ABSOLUTELY use it). the vendor said she was getting a little teary just thinking about it being loved again, i was feeling like i was gonna pass out
& having inventoried everything at this point i'm feeling like we just met the angel of printmaking

Had to relearn how to do lineart extraction on medibang but soooo useful for translating traditional work into digital
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Super easy to do just go to the layer button then the three buttons next to the lock and select line art extraction then play around with the values until you're happy with it!

These were taken on the 1st of December, I didn't realize the dates were wrong for the next couple of days. Firenze, Italy - taken on a shitty cat-shaped kids thermal print camera.

I found some adhesive paper for my cheap little thermal printer, which means I can turn any image on my phone into a little b&w sticker. And that, in turn, means that I'm probably going to cover all my belongings in stickers.
(This one is from the set of Nijiyon communication stickers for LINE; I used a paint pen to color in Yu's declaration, "Hitori dake nante erabenai yo!!!" : "How do you expect me to choose just one?")
