Ftr like many of the designs themselves my girlnavy names arent all final either (for example I have already changed lady little's name from edna to edith) but imma be taking some liberties in diversifying the same namers similar to how I'm taking (some) liberties with hairstyles because it's just a good opportunity to make them a bit more distinct from each other
#text poast#liberties include the simple fact i just do not care for a lot of 19th century ladies hairstyles buuuuut lol#i also just dont want to draw the same style on 5+ different women yk like i might as well be drawing boynavy if i did that#and i think in a girlnavy context theyd want to distinguish themselves anyway even if their chosen style might not otherwise fly on land#jane janell jeanette therese an(toni)a umm and so on#(bonus if u can guess who is who lmao!)#but do i stick with the obvious frances or be a bit bolder and try. francine#*descent into madness continues*#feel free to tell me ur thoughts#man i need a consistent text post tag#letters from j. irving(coded)

I like the idea of Therese and SJ reconnecting if the Revolution ended well.
I want Therese and Maximilien to meet and SJ to panic
Don't get me started with a joke post that’s actually my pet conspiracy theory that I like to ramble about!
Ok, so SJ and Therese didn’t have to wait for the Revolution to end to reconnect. According to SJ’s village, they totally did reconnect in summer 1793, when Therese left her husband and went to Paris to live in a hotel that was like 5-10 minutes away from SJ’s place.
There is no indication that they did meet in Paris, but we have a letter from SJ’s friend Thuillier informing him that the village believes that SJ had kidnapped her. Thuillier also gives SJ Therese’s address in Paris. To which SJ basically answered something along the lines of: “wtf? Tell everyone it’s rubbish, gotta go, very busy, bye”. Now, I believe SJ that he did not kidnap Therese, (especially not against her will, which were serious accusations; like Fabre was sentenced to death for that in the 1770s) but idk if I agree with historians who conclude that SJ’s reply proves that they absolutely, 100% did not meet in Paris.
The whole thing is just so weird, with too many coincidences to simply reject the possibility that they did meet. Plus, Therese was in Paris to meet SJ (I guess? Why else would she go there?) and I assume she’d make an effort to see him. And there’s also that later rambling from SJ about how “if a couple don’t have children after 7 years, they are to separate” (Therese left her husband exactly on the 7th anniversary of their marriage, and they didn’t have children). So yes, I totally believe that SJ and Therese met in Paris 1793.
There’s nothing indicating they were romantic* at this point, though - maybe he helped her as a friend (they did knew each other since they were kids, after all), and SJ talked so much about protecting women from unwanted marriages that I like to believe he’d help a friend. But as much as SJ/Therese super shipper Madeleine-Anna Charmelot would disagree, there is no proof that they were in a romantic/sexual relationship at this point.
*There are no indications of any romantic or sexual between them except, maybe, that SJ’s short story, but that one was prob written close to Thermidor and there’s zero proof it’s about Therese (was she in Paris at all at that point?) It’s more that people assume Therese because we only know of few people ever linked to SJ romantically.
(But if the short story was about Therese, it hints at not everything working well for them and her being reluctant to fully commit (to what? the story is unclear) and SJ losing it because he was ride or die for people/ideas and expected others to be, too).
I want Therese and Maximilien to meet and SJ to panic
I don't understand what you mean by this. Why, do you think that there is some chance that SJ was romantically
involved with Therese at this point? 😛

My wife’s eloquent explanation of our lives!!!!!!!!!
I feel obligated to try to sum up my random yet intricately connected interests to make sense of my blog posts. Basically, the starship Voyager sets down in Storybrooke, Maine on a crisp autumn day in 1950. Captain Janeway and Seven of Nine emerge and become instant bff’s with Regina Mills, Emma Swan, Carol Aird, and Therese Belivet. At Granny’s we sit and chill and talk of distant planets and worlds, adventuring out from the Shire, and divine 50’s fashion. Mademoisselle de Neuf gets it. Have a cup of tea. It all feels so very dark Cottagecore as the golden filtered light of the sunset reflects off Seven’s facial implants. Henry Mills is making neon pixel art and playing 80s video games at the arcade tucked in the corner, and I tell him about Stranger Things. It’s just all so damn cozy. Later we visit an abandoned mall and listen to lofi and synthwave, steadfastly refusing to let the muggles get us down. We know our honored ancestors have our backs, and there are many paths to tread.

day 7 of @theoraekenapperciation 's theo week 2024: dealer's choice! (swords & magic au)
i wanted to call this a medieval au, but it's medieval in the same way bbc merlin is medieval. so.
names: Theodore - Theo, Therese - Tracy, Joshua - Josh, Haeden - Hayden, Corbin - Corey, Noah - Noah, William - Liam, Macen - Mason
The thief better known as the Gold-Eyed Dog sidestepped, dodging another blow.
He could almost hear Marcel in his ear, chastising him for letting himself get close enough to risk being caught, but excitement poured throughout his body, fueling him for the next hundred paces he needed to reach safety.
Nearly laughing all the way down into the underground tunnels, Theodore entered their little base with the True Alpha's Heart in (metaphorical) hand.
"You're back." Therese pointed out, still not having moved from her spot at the chemical station. She'd been "perfecting" her paralytic formula for the past week, now, and Theodore and the rest of the Chimera Band have had to almost forcefeed her meals due to her unwavering dedication to the task.
"Not one "welcome home" for me?" Theodore lightly played, catching his breath as his body finished shifting from Wolf to Human.
"Barely a home." Joshua said, rising from his station by the west entrance. He'd been assigned there ever since a near-death experience only a moon before. He still hadn't fully recovered, and though Theodore ordered him to stay put, he seemed to have trouble with the concept of simply doing nothing. "Do you have it?"
Theodore nodded and held up the leather purse. "One True Alpha Heart." He said, with just enough pride to be noted as reasonable. He was almost too late to pull it back towards him when he felt it being pulled away. "Enough, Corbin."
Corbin re-appeared with a dramatic sigh. He had just turned from a stealth and reconnaissance mission with Haeden and Noah. "The least you could do is tell us what it's for."
Theodore held the purse close to him, hooking it back onto his tool belt, and shrugged. "I would have to know to tell you."
"Don't be coy," Haeden's voice echoed from the shadows of her cot. She was always itching for a fight, same as Joshua. "You know everything."
Theodore let out a laugh as he sauntered over to his seat in front of the fire. Corbin joined him, sitting on the rocking chair opposite Theodore's own. "My thanks. Where's Noah?"
"Here," His voice echoed—exhausted, beyond a doubt. As the newest recruit of the Chimera Band, this much movement and motion in a handful of days seemed a lot to get used to, and it had been a busy week with a lot of gold on the line. "Just get to it, if you could."
"Not at the moment," Theodore deflected. He took and opened a small, empty chest from beside the fireplace, setting the Heart within. "We've been hired."
Noah and Haeden emerged from their cots, the rest of the Chimeras gathering around the fire to see the little slip of paper Theodore pulled out from his cloak.
"Found it on a tree trunk in my path," He said, unraveling it. "Whoever sent this knows where we're located—might be wise to accept."
To the Gold-Eyed Dog & companions,
("Companions," Corbin snorted.)
Search and rescue. Bring as many of your unit as possible. Barter for your price if you'd like, for a minimum of a thousand gold pieces.
(Joshua whistled lowly, and Noah let out a surprised exhale.)
Further mission details will be confirmed with the contact. Meet at dusk in the clearing by your tunnels' entrance. I am sure you know the one I speak of.
("How?" Haeden asked. "I didn't spy anyone nearby when I patrolled.")
M.H.
("An anonymous contact for a high price?" Therese noted. "I wonder which lord got himself mixed up in a scandal this time.")
Theodore deliberated for a moment, then said, "Corbin, Therese, you're joining me. We leave in two hours."
Corbin cheered as Therese groaned. "I haven't finished the solution yet—"
"—A thousand gold," Theodore singsonged.
She let out a sharp sigh and begrudgingly said, "It can wait."
Joshua made a noise, just a bit over-upset at the idea of being excluded from another mission.
Theodore turned to him. "I wouldn't worry. Once that injury's healed—" Theodore pat his shoulders, making Joshua shriek once more. "—You'll be returned to your invaluable state. At the moment, there isn't much for our prime fighter to do without the proper muscles for fighting."
<hr>
Theodore, Corbin, and Therese had left. Joshua looked over to Haeden and Noah. "Are we really staying put?"
Haeden had already put on her cloak. "Of course not. Let's?"
"Let's." Noah rolled out of his cot in full gear and picked up his swords from the nearby table. "The note did say to bring as much of the unit as possible, and Joshua doesn't look like an invalid to me,"
"I'm glad." Joshua pulled his lips into a smile. "I would've hated to go at it alone."
<hr>
Theodore approached the clearing closest to the eastern entrance with caution, less on edge, however, knowing that Corbin and Therese weren't very far.
The client, at least, was not a Creature such as they—or perhaps was one, with great strength. Not many Creatures could travel through their forest of rowan without incident—without the Chimera Band knowing.
"Gold-Eyed Dog?" Someone asked, behind Theodore.
He turned, quick—spotting a figure draped in Druid's clothing, one of their age. How had he managed to sneak past Theodore without alerting him? (Or Corbin and Therese, for that matter?) Theodore composed himself and nodded. "Client?"
The Druid nodded. "Druid Macen," He introduced, the name a passing familiarity to Theodore's ears. "Walk with me?" He asked, although it felt more like a compulsion than a willing motion when Theodore obeyed.
Theodore resisted the urge to look around for Therese and Corbin as he listened to the Druid begin his spiel.
"I'll cut to the chase and we can negotiate further afterwards," He started. Theodore nodded, and he began, "A lord in my charge snuck out of the castle last night, and I'd like to see him returned before his father notices."
"Which lord?" Theodore asked, careful not to say anything that might sway the Druid's attention away from working with them—he did propose an attractive offer, and Theodore intended to collect.
The Druid seemed to contemplate, but not for long. "Lord William, of the territory just east of here."
Theodore barely contained his surprise, and the Druid seemed to spot it. (Perceptive as well as intelligent.)
"Now, I understand that you and the rest of your Band are known somewhat as criminals and exiles to the territory of Geyer, which, I have to say, I'm glad you've brought them all with you—" The Druid said, his walk slowing. He waved his hand—Theodore felt a wave of magic flush over him, and something fall out of the trees. The Druid gestured behind Theodore.
He turned to see Corbin and Therese on a pile of leaves, rubbing sore spots, and just to their right, Joshua, Noah, and Haeden, who Theodore specifically remembered telling _not_ to follow them. He opened his mouth to berate them—
"—But rest assured," The Druid said. (Powerful, as well. Theodore should pay more attention to Geyer politics.) "Return Lord William to the castle by dusk tomorrow, and your criminal records in the territory will cease to exist."
Theodore gave him a suspicious look, a brow raised. "Seems a lot to risk for a lord," He said warily.
Druid Macen shrugged. "His importance as the only son of the former Duke of Dunbar is nothing to dismiss."
Theodore noticed an ellipsis that seemed to be figuratively forming above the Druid's head. "...And?"
Druid Macen's features set into something much more grave than the expression he had worn during the rest of the exchange. "I have reason to believe he's been kidnapped. Or otherwise set upon by rogues."
Theodore noted that, the beginnings of a plan forming in his head. "And why us?"
Druid Macen leveled him a look. "Mercenaries usually keep quiet when paid well."
He was entirely right, of course, and although Theodore had already made up his mind before they had met, he still considered his options: first, to accept the offer, second, to run away, leave the nobles to their business, and change their hideaway's location, and third, to kill Druid Macen on the spot and take everything in his pockets. While the latter two options were passingly attractive, Theodore had already made his mind—and would have been backed into a corner, anyways.
Theodore gave him an affirmative—but not definitive—nod. "Your terms?"
Druid Macen beamed.
<hr>
The terms the Druid set out weren't exactly unreasonable, simply... restrictive. In a sense. The Chimera Band didn't do much work involving other parties outside of gathering information, so working directly with Druid Macen during all hours of the following day felt much like they were being put under surveillance. Yes, Theodore had brought Druid Macen back to their tunnels, and yes, he told Therese of his plans to relocate their base anyway, but it didn't do much in the way of comforting her to the fact that a member of the court they were all exiled from was standing in their space—their home. ("Home".)
Therese felt that way, at least. Whenever she looked around at her companions, it seemed that they reveled in the attention Druid Macen so freely gave—especially Corbin. Not to say that she didn't enjoy it, either—Druid Macen was especially perceptive and not at all lacking in intellect, even helped Therese with a particular formula—but she was one who much preferred being by her lonesome than to meet another "recruit of the week" (the term they all used for aiding mercenaries they hired to fill in the gaps in their skill).
They left to conduct their search only hours later, food in their bellies, armor on their backs, weapons on their belts, and Therese with vials in her pockets.
Druid Macen appeared at her side and pointed at them. "How do you use those?"
Therese grinned, almost wolfish as she pulled out her hand. She turned her nails—her claws—towards him. "These vials are specially designed for quick application onto these claws." She brought one claw closer to his gaze. "You see their material?"
The Druid nodded.
"Porous," She started. "When I stab these claws into the lid or body of one of my vials, they take in the formula. Then, it's just a matter of close combat; and you'll find that I'm quite good at that."
<hr>
Theodore walked towards the back with Joshua as the Druid led the search. Druid Macen had brought the Chimera Band towards the last spot Lord William was seen, stumbling (presumably drunk) through the wood. Naturally, Theodore set the Chimeras to their tasks—with Noah and Haeden being left with Druid Macen for the most important task of actually catching his trail. The tip Druid Macen's contacts got was very helpful, considering that they were able to quickly find Lord William's last known location—but something about it all was too simple, and Theodore was on edge because of it.
The way the search was currently going, Theodore wouldn't have been surprised if bandits began to drop from the upper branches of the trees and attack. It was too quiet, and snapping twigs from far-off ground did nothing to comfort him. He needed to stay cautious.
Therese seemed to agree with him, since her head regularly swiveled from side to side, searching for something that only she would be able to see.
It wasn't long, however, before they encountered a shack.
"Hold," Theodore commanded, unsheathing a knife and slowly making his way towards it. He was suspicious—who wouldn't be?—as to the lack of guards surrounding it. If this was where Lord William's tracks led, there was bound to be high-level security; there had to be. (Theodore had heard tales of the Lord's strength, even experiencing its full brunt, but unless something drastic had happened to progress his strength, he shouldn't have been able to take out as many bandits as Druis Macen feared would take him.)
The door had a lock on it, which Theo made quick work of. He threw it to the side and slowly opened the door.
Inside, illuminated by the dancing morning light streaming in from a slit between planks of wood, was Lord William, tied up to the wall by his wrists and ankles, asleep.
"Lord William?" Theodore whispered. He made a motion, signaling his companions to stay where they were.
The Lord shifted, no longer in that sleep-still state. "Who is it?"
Theodore decided to joke, still keeping his knife out and his guard up. "A savior."
Lord William seemed to rouse, just a bit. "I don't..." He blinked his eyes open. "...I don't need saving."
"Being tied up by all four limbs seems to contradict that," Theodore said, creeping ever closer.
Lord William raised his gaze to lock with Theodore's. Something played behind that bright blue, something that clouded his sunny sky for just a moment.
"Theodore?" He asked, voice low. (Theodore didn't doubt that the Chimeras could hear him, nonetheless.) "What are you doing here?"
Theodore went to cut the rope from his wrists. "Your Druid asked us for help. Told me to bring everyone I could."
Lord William's eyes blew wide open. His voice lowered to a sharp hush. "They're still here."
Theodore succeeded in one and moved onto the other. "Who?" He made a motion for the Chimeras to remain on guard.
Lord William moved his free hand to the restrained one to help it get free. He said, low, "...Hunters."
Theodore stilled. "What?"
this week was so fun!! (i know it's late but y'know... life) let me know if you'd want a full version of this!

St Claire Hall Episcopal Girls School
AKA (Kemper Hall)
Kemper Hall was an Episcopal girls school for day and boarding students which recognized 1870 as the year of its official founding. The predecessor to Kemper Hall, the Kenosha Female Seminary, was chartered by the rectors, wardens, and vestry of St. Mathews Episcopal Church in 1855, but the school did not open until 1865. Mrs. H.M. Crawford operated the school as St. Claire's Hall for a short time. The school's founders purchased the home of Senator Charles Durkee and nine surrounding acres of land on the Lake Michigan shore in Kenosha. The Durkee mansion served as the school's central classroom and administration building throughout the school's 105-year history.
Bishop Jackson Kemper was elected trustee of the female seminary in 1866. Following Kemper's death in 1870, his successor, Bishop William Armitage, made an urgent request to the Milwaukee Diocesan Council to redeem and secure the school as a living monument to Bishop Kemper. At that time, the school was renamed Kemper Hall. The Reverend George M. Everhart served as the school's first headmaster from 1870 until 1878. The first graduating class celebrated commencement in the school's new chapel in 1876.
In 1878 a group of women from the Sisters of St. Mary, an Episcopal women's order located in Peekskill, New York, arrived in Kenosha to administer the school and to return it to financial solvency. Among the sisters was Mother Mary Clare who became the first headmistress in 1883 and served in that capacity until 1918. Mother Mary Ambrose, who joined the school in 1911, served as headmistress from 1931 until 1967. Other headmistresses included Sister Sarah, 1878; Sister Edith, 1879-1883; Mother Mary Maude, 1918-1920; Sister Celestine, 1920-1922; Sister Flora Therese, 1922-1931; and Sister Margaret Jane, 1967-1969. Anna J. Morse was influential in shaping the curriculum and academic policies of the school, serving as director of studies from the early 1930s until the early 1960s. A lay Board of Trustees assisted the Sisters of St. Mary with the school's administration and most of the teachers were lay persons. Several wealthy benefactors contributed to the financial support of Kemper Hall including Zalmon G. Simmons, who donated eleven acres of land to the school; Charles W. Nash, president of Nash Motors Company, who donated his home to the school in 1938; and James T. Wilson, banker and Nash Motors Company executive, who donated Wilson House, a mansion across the street from the school.
In 1969 the Sisters of St. Mary turned the school over to a Board of Trustees and the Reverend Raymond Gayle became the second headmaster. In 1970 a co-educational program for students in grade one through grade nine was initiated, accepting boys as day students only. The Reverend Russell Ingersoll succeeded the Reverend Mr. Gayle as headmaster in 1972. Kemper Hall closed in June 1975 due to financial problems. During the school's 105-year history, 1,625 students attended. A peak enrollment of 140 students was reached shortly after World War II.

12.31.2023
48 books this year. My hunger never ends. I am insatiable. Here's my reviews:
Five Classics by Agatha Christie 8/10 Started the year off strong with a handful of Christie's shorter classic mysteries
The Fortune Teller by Gwendolyn Womack 4.5/10 Super super cool story idea with very poor flow and had a cheating trope
Mountain Mama by Axsom & Pelham 6.5/10 A depressingly realistic look at life on the frontier for a single mom
A Well-Behaved Woman by Therese Anne Fowler 8/10 Alva Vanderbilt was so incredible
Followers by Megan Angelo 6.5/10 One of those books where you really don't care the first 2/3 and then you can't get over it for the last 1/3
The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien 10/10 my annual reading of one of the Big Four, as always
"Kitchen Princess" Omnibus 2 by Ando & Kobayashi 9/10 I'm pretty sure I learned my love languages from the Kitchen Princess series as a kid
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas 5.5/10 A little tropey and the riddle was stupid easy, but I love me a Beauty & The Beast retelling
Homeland: The Legend of Drizzt #1 by R.A. Salvatore 5.5/10 It really didn't need to be that long, but Salvy loves his extra DnD context
The Black Poets by Dudley Randal 10/10 When I tell you how often I think about the poetry from this book. When I tell you.
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen 6.5/10 Witty and wild for it's time, like all Austen novels, but she's boring and falls in love with her cousin
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas 7.5/10 Turning the Beauty and the Beast retelling on its HEAD and using tidbits from the previous novel to change everything - but also very very smutty
Tithe by Holly Black 7/10 Rereading an old book I love in high school and finding that I still like it quite a lot
The Big Four by Agatha Christie 8/10 One of her biggie Poirot heists, super thrilling
"Kitchen Princess" Vol. 6 by Ando and Kobayashi 9/10 I have dreams, actual dreams, about these stories for weeks after reading them. Good dreams.
The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chianani 7/10 Decided to read this after watching the movie -- it might not be incredible storytelling but it's a fun story-world, so I decided to read it all
A World Without Princes by Soman Chianani 4/10 S for G&E 2 -It had some good bits, but was overall way too clumpy
The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien 10/10 This was actually my first time reading it, and I LOVE getting all the universe context!!
To Weave a Web of Magic by Delacroix, Kurlana, McKillip, and Shinn 8/10 This series of short stories had some real bangers and some ehh
On The Incarnation by St. Athanasius 7/10 the deconstruction never stops, love that for us
Unfinished Tales by J.R.R. Tolkien 8.5/10 It was so cool reading some of his last unfinished works, it was really not cool reading a bunch of stories with no ending
The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn 5.5/10 Where the first Bridgerton book was much better than it's season, the second book was exactly as whatever as the second season.
"The Tempest" by William Shakespeare 7.5/10 really very odd, but the overall vibe was so good and exactly what I needed after Quinn
The Last Ever After by Soman Chianani 6.5/10 S for G&E #3 Thus begins my attempt to finish the whole series because I bought them and they were sitting there
"Sophist", "Statesmen", "Parmenides" and "Philebus" by Plato 10/10 What's the difference between is and is not? Is 'is not' a state of being? lol I dunno
Quest for Glory by Soman Chianani 7/10 S for G&E #4 Okay finally these stories are getting interesting again
A Crystal of Time by Soman Chianani 6.5/10 Really pulling out some wackadoodle things for this one, but I wasn't against it too much
One True King by Soman Chianani 6/10 An alright wrap-up, but my boi Hort deserved a more thorough ending
In the Flo by Alisa Vitti 6.5/10 I learned more about my period in this book than in any health class, but it also got a little woowoo with moon phases
The Green Witch by Murphy & Hiscock 7/10 I had a late-night book buying stint where I bought like 7 witchy books and this was the first to arrive
Acting on Impulse by Mia Sosa 2/10 I have nothing particular against this author, but this was the book that convinced me that I could get a book published
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas 7.5/10 Hoo boy does a lot of stuff go down in this spicy, spicy book.
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas 6/10 Just a fun little story about wildly traumatized characters
Save the Cat! Writes a Novel by Jessica Brody 9.5/10 One of the coolest things I've read, I learned so much about reading and writing
Walden and Others Writings by Henry David Thoreau 10/10 So much beautiful writing, this is going to be a regular reread for me
A History of Magic, Witchcraft, and the Occult by DK 8.5/10 Naturally one of my favorite books of the year was a literal textbook
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas 8/10 Apparently I didn't hate this book as much as I was supposed to, but also please mind your manners in shared eating spaces
American Brujeria by J. Allen Cross 6.5/10 It turns out Hispanic witches are super super Catholics, which I bet would make some non-Hispanic Catholics real angy
Magic Lessons by Alice Hoffman 7/10 Practical Magic #1 it was such a lovely writing style, like an actual witch telling a prophecy
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas 8.5/10 A really cool story, standing ovation for Lehabah every day, but also weird that the big bad killer guy wears hats and watches basketball
Nevewhere by Neil Gaiman 9/10 Hadn't thought much of it while I was reading it, but this story had stuck with me like a bad cold baby
Bones of Faerie by Janni Lee Simmer 5.5/10 This one had been sitting in my TBR for too long, and it wasn't too bad
Well of Darkness by Weis & Hickman 8.5/10 Getting to read a fantasy story in the perspective of the bad guys? Heck yeah. So cool.
After the Funeral by Agatha Christie 6.5/10 This one had alllllllll the rich family drams
Ironside by Holly Black 8/10 my first time reading this finale of Black's trilogy, and I just feel like the main character could have been more logical or taken more action
A Writer's Notebook by Ralph Fletcher 2/10 I pretty much learned nothing, got nothing out of this
Search the Sky by Pohl & Kornbluth 8/10 Only took off points for misogyny, but it was from the 50s, otherwise a really cool story
The House Witch by Murphy & Hiscock 5/10 A follow-up from the first witchy book to arrive, this one didn't teach me as much about witches as I hoped it would
Approximately a 7/10 average for the whole year! I went out on a limb for a lot of books this year, and that was rewarding just about as often as it was disappointing, but I can at least say that I haven't DNF'd a book yet. I largely write these for myself, and I don't expect anyone to take the time to read it -- if you did, then you are a saint and a hero. May your pillows be cool, your blankets warm, and your eyesight always clear enough for reading.

13 books tag!
tagged by beloved @strideofpride 💖💖💖
1. The last book I read:
A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon. I absolutely loved it. a commitment for sure, since it's 850 pages long, but it was like, the high fantasy I've been wanting to read my entire life. like it took all the tropes from the great fantasy series' that I've read/know of and just made it women-centric and better and gayer. george and john eat your fucking hearts out
2. A book I recommend:
Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll --- I got an ARC at ALA last year and it was such a fantastic read, and good, gritty complicated navigating of a crime story. if you can withstand the subject matter (serial killings, sexual assault, period typical homophobia), I highly recommend it.
3. A book that I couldn't put down:
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas. I blew through this series back in March and it was great fun. ridiculous, sometimes bad, but hella fun. like a CW show.
4. A book I've read twice (or more):
Book Lovers by Emily Henry. it's comfort food/nora ephron romcom in prose form.
5. A book on my TBR:
well, Emily Henry did just put out a new novel, that I do want to read...maybe after the chaos I have going on this month. Funny Story?
and now that I loved ADOFN I want to read Priory of the Orange Tree
6. A book I've put down:
Wuthering Heights. I'M SORRY I think maybe I attempted her too young. mayhaps I should give Emily another chance.
7. A book on my wish list:
I want my own copy of Nabokov's Letters to Vera. I got halfway through-ish with a library copy before I had to return it, and that's a book that I just really wanna take a highlighter to.
8. A favorite book from childhood:
I was a Little House on the Prairie GIRLIE. I still have my collection in my home library <3 from the Big Woods to the First Four Years
9. A book you would give to a friend?
I like to keep all of my books lol, but I would give a friend my paperback copy of No Matter the Wreckage by Sarah Kay because I have a signed hardback copy
10. A Book of Poetry or Lyrics You Own
Felicity by Mary Oliver. One of my forever favorites
11. A nonfiction book you own?
I have lots of memoirs and such, but a nonfiction book that I really liked reading was a biography called The Real Traviata: the Song of Marie Duplessis, it's about the woman Dumas fils based La Dame aux Camellias off of, which is the source for Verdi's La Traviata, which is the source for Baz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge!
12. What are you currently reading?
The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith. I just started it, but Therese's doubts about working retail and pursuing a career in the arts are hitting a little too close to home innit
13. What are you planning on reading next?
I've been meaning to read the sequel to Discovery of Witches - Shadow of Night for like a year, and I got it out of the library again, so I think I'll go there next. (I was craving something smart after my bout in the SJM-verse)

Rough sessions, once again. Feel like I was just going through the motions all week, so barely noticed the good. A lot of small, random things:
I'm getting more excited for my second tattoo next month (after waiting for six)! Getting a b/w outline of roses on the top of my right forearm for St. Therese of Lisieux (roses are associated with her).
Last year, I gave E a framed piece of artwork of a saint she likes for helping with my Confirmation process. A couple days ago, she sent me a text with a picture of it hanging in a collage on the wall. So that was nice of her to think of sending me a pic.
Mailed my letter to J to tell him about getting into the msw program, so kind of feels like a mini connection. Trying not to hope for a response letter, yet still hoping.
Went to St. P's Pub Theology for the first time in months...it's all the way downtown, so it's kind of a hassle to take the subway when it's cold out. But, the weather was nice, so I got to dress up and actually really liked how I looked.
I love this art/graphic design website I use at work (Canva). Get to make pretty website banners, instagram posts, etc. for spc.
This is random, but I got a new personal Bible for Christmas (vs. the ones I use for academic work...basically a difference in translation. One is more accurate and the other is more relaxed/not as stiff in wording). I like to write different song lyrics and quotes in my personal Bible. My old one was from 2013 (back in Catholic grad school) and I no longer agree with certain quotes, so I wanted a new one to start over fresh with the new perspectives I've gained from St. P's, including quotes from J's and E's sermons. How I'm actually worthy and enough and God loves me for me, all of me. It's taken the past two months to underline passages and write everything I wanted, but I finally finished and really happy with it.
