"At that moment they heard a woman scream in the living room. Oh, Christ, Michael thought, it sounded like Tom’s wife. He rushed to the door and opened it. Everybody in the living room was standing. And by the sofa Tom Hagen was holding Theresa close to him, his face embarrassed. Theresa was weeping and sobbing, and Michael realized that the scream he had heard had been her calling out her husband’s name with joy. As he watched, Tom Hagen disentangled himself from his wife’s arms and lowered her back onto the sofa. He smiled at Michael grimly. “Glad to see you, Mike, really glad.” He strode into the office without another look at his still-sobbing wife. He hadn’t lived with the Corleone Family ten years for nothing, Michael thought with a queer flush of pride. Some of the old man had rubbed off on him, as it had on Sonny, and he thought, with surprise, even on himself.
From The Godfather novel by Mario Puzo.
#Part of me loves that Michael is proud of Tom#even if it's like He can be a dick to his wife too like a real Corleone!#And part of me thinks poor Theresa#I'll give Tom a pass though#He's just had to talk his way out of being killed#and he did embrace her at first#and he really needs to give them an update asap#but still#Just tell her you'll be back soon#I wish that we'd got more of Theresa in the book#It's obvious that she and Tom genuinely love each other#and have a strong relationship#The Godfather#The Godfather novel#Tom Hagen

Heyo! Please tell me more about Pallor. 🖤
it's the au where Tom Hagen is a killer, with a side dish of lawyer practice for the family, I'm pretty sure I've ranted out about 80% already, so I'll sprinkle it with some details from my decision making process:
the scratchy kitty Tom's family has is a stray Tom picked from the street because references and because it's for the orphans, we need more of them,
same with his wife's cousin (an NPC mentioned in the last chapter) who of course isn't a stray but he extends the charity to her like the family that had adopted him,
his (first) kid's name is Maria because @glitter-and-metal said so,
he is married to someone else other than his canon wife Theresa because she must be from a pretty rich family and in this au he was not raised by the gradually richer Corleones so his options were different, but in one of my fics about Theresa I want to mention that her maiden name was Martinelli and so in this fic his wife's name will be Martina,
an OC that I based on a line from movie two might appear: in the end of the movie Michael mentioned Tom's "mistress" and I'm not having it, excuse you, that's going to be a guy bc my dude is gay, and he's a buttonman/soldier in one of the regimes, and in Pallor Tom doesn't need to be in any kind of a physical relationship but one of the conditions of him working for the family is that his family gets a bodyguard and I can just as well recycle the guy and put him as the bodyguard here,
the training he receives has a perfect parallel in the book canon because Clemenza taught Sonny what he knows about weapons and in 1935-37 Sonny was very active as a killer and he was second only to Luca Brasi, who I'm not sure is present in my au so this is the perfect time to introduce someone as deadly and give Tom some time to shine (and maybe even work out/train with Sonny, and we all know how that can turn out... cough harbinger cough),
Tom loves his kids more than anything and while he doesn't enjoy killing, he will do anything to secure their present and future, which is more likely the more useful he is to the family, that's his one soft spot that no one even has to come close to to convince him to take up the work, he'll hype himself up just fine, consciously and willingly,
I might pun about bodyguards on my way to the last scene (it's about bodies. wink wink)
thanks for the ask <3

Chapter One: The Stars and the Sea
Narrated by Theresa Hagen
When I was little, my world revolved around two things: playing with my brother Frank and creating art. Art was my escape, my passion. I loved the way colors blended together, how I could shape the world with my hands and imagination. And Frank, well, he was my partner in crime, my confidant, my best friend. We were inseparable, sharing dreams and secrets, plotting adventures only siblings could understand.
Our life changed the year I turned eight. Our parents, convinced that America the land of opportunity offered a better future, decided to uproot us from our home. They believed that the America would provide opportunities we couldn’t find in Italy . So, we packed our lives into suitcases and boarded a ship, setting sail across the vast, unpredictable ocean.
The journey was long, filled with the hum of engines and the salty scent of the sea. For two kids, it was a mix of excitement and boredom. We explored every nook and cranny of the ship, turning it into our personal playground. But the nights — the nights were special. The sky stretched out like a canvas, painted with stars, and it was more beautiful than anything I could ever dream of capturing with my paints.
One night, Frank and I decided to sneak out onto the deck to see the stars. We were giggling, whispering about constellations and far-off galaxies. It felt like our little secret, a stolen moment in the quiet darkness. The deck was cool under our bare feet, and the night air was crisp, carrying the tang of the ocean.
We leaned over the railing, pointing out the brightest stars, making up stories about them. It was magical. I turned around for just a second, just a tiny second to admire the shimmering reflection of the stars on the water. When I looked back, Frank was gone. Panic surged through me as I scanned the deck. My heart pounded in my chest, the sound of the waves suddenly deafening.
I ran to the railing, my eyes desperately searching the dark water below. And there he was, a small figure struggling against the relentless waves. I screamed, but the noise was swallowed by the night. By the time help arrived, it was too late. Frank was gone, taken by the sea.
Since that night, I haven’t gone near water. Just the thought of it brings back the crushing weight of loss, the helplessness. It makes me cry. Water, once a source of beauty and mystery, became a dark, terrifying presence in my life. Instead, I buried myself in art. It became my refuge, my way of coping with the grief and guilt that gnawed at me.
My parents never blamed me, not out loud. They held me close, whispering words of comfort. But deep down, I felt their sorrow, their silent question of “What if?” I could see it in their eyes, the way they sometimes looked at me, searching for answers I couldn’t give. They wished it was me who had been swallowed by the ocean.
Art became my solace. I painted to forget, to remember, to feel something other than the pain. Every brushstroke was a whisper, a plea for understanding, a way to bring beauty back into a world that had lost so much of it.
Now, when I look at the stars, I see more than just points of light. I see Frank, the boy who loved adventures and constellations, who laughed with me under the night sky. And I paint them, over and over, trying to capture that one perfect moment when we were together, dreaming under the stars.

In what was a notable news story at the time, Andrew Hagen and Sophia Corleone fall in love and get married.
Andrew and Sophia grew close at an early age, to the point where their bond became a source of jokes between the elder Corleones and Hagens. Andrew is there the day Sophia sees the roadkill, and comforts her as she cries uncontrollably.
Their romance doesn’t take off until Andrew and Sophia both go away to college. Every time they see each other at family gatherings, Andrew presents Sophia with a stuffed animal for her dorm.
When their relationship becomes official, their parents are overwhelmingly accepting, much to their surprise. The media and Michael’s WASP colleagues, on the other hand, have a field day with this. The jokes that were popular at the time are often crude, especially on the late night talk shows.
However, the media backs off around the time of Andrew and Sophia’s marriage, which is a lavish event that celebrates both their respective Irish and Italian heritages.
When asked by a reporter how an Irish-Italian marriage could work, Andrew quips “Can’t go wrong with beer and pasta!”

Do you think there was something romantic going on between Tom and Kay when Michael left for Miami? That’s the only reason I can think of why Tom allowed Kay to leave the compound and get an abortion. Because earlier, he had prevented her from going to get groceries. Maybe she used her feminine wiles (although I have to laugh at that, WHAT feminine wiles? She couldn’t seduce a houseplant 😂) to trick him into letting her leave.
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
But yeah, I’ve totally always thought they fucked/wanted to fuck. Tom was pretty much the only person Kay would talk to and that she ever believed when they told her something (probably because he’s a blue eyed blond like her and not a ‘foreigner’ as she loves to complain so much about). But yeah, I think there was no way Tom didn’t have a hand in helping with the abortion. I mean she couldn’t even go to her beloved market so someone would’ve had to bring a doctor on to the compound and Tom was in charge of everything. I think Neri was suspicious of Tom too because if you watch the scene where Tom tells Michael about the “miscarriage” Neri is watching Michael the whole time and looks so worried for him and is glaring at Tom in that scene (Neri always glares at Tom AND Andrew Hagen)
Tom and Michael should’ve swapped wives. Theresa is always giving Mikey heart eyes like in the deleted scene where he comes home and Tom is still missing and when he introduces her to Gilday in Part III and she’s Sicilian, the same age as Michael, college educated, and the book says they always liked each other, and Michael would never cheat on her like Tom did with his mistress (Michael and Neri are obviously banging but that’s not cheating since he’s Michael’s other spouse and obviously Theresa would be welcome to join in), and people don’t appreciate how pretty Theresa is..

THIS COULD NOT BE MORE TRUE
ALSO in the book she straight up tells Tom that she can trust him because he’s not Sicilian. Fuck her.
My other theories on this:
Michael had Tom whacked at some point after Part II. Neri did it.
Michael/Theresa have fucked at some point. Either after Tom was killed or before when Tom was fucking his mistress/Kay and/or both (and there was definitely threesome with Neri included). Seriously, look at the way Theresa looks at Michael in any scene they’re together. Also, they’re the same age and Theresa is college educated and Puzo says THEY ALWAYS LIKED EACH OTHER. Michael and Tom should’ve wife swapped.
Tom was sleeping with kay and he even helped her to get the abortion, but none of yall are ready to have that conversation and keeps denying the truth.

I just realised that Tom and Sonny gave the exact same name to both of their sons who were born on the exact same year like…If you wanted to confuse the entire family for no reason just say that kings
#tom hagen#sonny corleone#i'm just imagining the rest of the family like 'are you going to Frank's birthday party this weekend?' '...didn't we went last month?'#also i'm obsessed with the wiki mentionning that sonny's son was nicknamed frankie 'presumably to distinguish him from his cousin'#you could have just given that baby a different name lmao#then again maybe i'm blaming the wrong people here#we know that sandra and theresa were canonically very close so maybe they're the true culprits in this whole thing#i'm just imagine sandra like 'i already have one set of twins and by god i'm about to artificially create another one!'

A few Tom Hagen headcanons
1) Tom is not an animal guy. He can appreciate that they're often beautiful or sometimes cute but they're too unpredictable and messy for Tom who is anxious, sensitive and something of a neat freak.(Look at the way he so tentatively reaches out to touch Khartoum, as though he's scared of the horse.)
2) Tom has assimilated so much into the Sicilian culture of the family who adopted him that he doesn't quite fit into either the Corleone's world or the outside world. He's fluent in Sicilian, has an Italian wife, uses Italian hand gestures and(in the book) he even has Italian facial expressions. He doesn't have Sicilian blood though so he'll never be fully accepted by the family and the other mobsters, but he's so Italian in every other respect that he seems odd to non-Italians. They find him a little unsettling and strange and because of this he was largely excluded from drinks and other after work events, when he was working for the top law firms Vito got him into. He'll always walk between two worlds.
3) Tom secretly loves dancing with Theresa. It's one of the things he enjoys most, though never in front of the family it's one of the few times you seem him drop that business like exterior.(Blame Robert Duvall for this, The man is completely obsessed with dancing)
(4) Tom is a stress eater. He eats more when anxious, also as an excuse to avoid talking during tense situations, and no one makes him more anxious than his brothers. (Watch in the Chinese food scene, he's the most anxious of all of them, and he crams his mouth with food, partly from anxiety and partly to stop him from expressing his fears for Michael.
5) Tom is permanently exhausted as he works so much(Go read the book, the man does just about every job you can possibly imagine) and on the rare occasions he gets to relax he just melts into the chair or drapes himself over the nearest last object. It's one of the few sloppy things the almost impeccably neat Tom does.(Look at him when he sits in a chair, he slumps into it and he's always got his feet up, like he doesn't have the energy to sit upright)
6) Tom considers his loyalty to be one of his biggest strengths but he secretly knows that it's also one of his biggest weaknesses. That he's participated in some way, in so many unspeakable crimes because he is so loyal. He's more grateful than he can ever express to Sonny and Vito for saving him from a lonely death as a child and so terrified of finding himself unwanted, unloved and back in the gutter that he'll do almost anything to avoid losing his family and the status he now holds. He rarely allows himself to think about the crimes the family commits, and he feels guilty when he does, but he's not nearly as ashamed as he knows he should be.

the godfather is about the mob being wrong about everything except that a real man opens up to and takes care of his family and it’s also about how tom hagen is gay but not in a way where he’s closed off or a shithead to theresa like they’re happily married but they’re both gay. that’s what i got from it at least #cinnama

Yeah! Split 7″ Release on Friday 23.11. on @gutfeelingrecs
REMEMBERING NICO Gutfeeling Records GF068 Split-7'' A: Das Hobos&Franz Dobler @textbaufranzdobler: Verhängnisvolle Frau B: Leonie Singt&G.Rag/Zelig Implosion Deluxxe: Femme Fatale Cover-Artwork: Leonie Felle VÖ 23.11.2018
Release-Konzerte mit Leonie Singt, Das Hobos&Franz Dobler, G.Rag/Zelig Implosion Deluxxe 5.12. München/Polka, 6.12. Augsburg/Grand Hotel Cosmopolis
