One of the main issues into trying to get into tma is the lack of balance between the statements and the characters. I adore this slow drip format don't get me wrong, but it led to the statement heavy nature of the episodes needing to take center stage and sometimes as a result being forgotten. It doesn't help that until season 5, all the formats were exactly the same, just a person saying their statement or a statement being read. This isn't to say this format isn't effective, I mean look at the popularity of the show, but you do have an awkward inability to progress plot without a long statement. Season 3 in particular made the statements and post statements feel incredibly separated on the assisant's side of things. Most of the time (with a few notable exceptions) you can change out the dialogue between characters post statement and the statements themselves in any particular order.

So far with the magnus protocol, that definitely is not the case. For one, the dialogue between the characters and the horror findings/statement (not sure what to call them) are incredibly integrated. It at once creates this tension, not knowing exactly when you'll hear the statement and also a sense of experiencing alongside everyone. There's also the formatting. Between three episodes we got an email, a reddit thread, and a therapist session. All of these seemingly fit into the same format, and most importantly, can be a variety of lengths depending on how they want to tell the story. Statements in TMA took up an entire episode and there were no more than one statement per. Now, while we most likely won't get more than one or two, there are options in not only how they're presented but also when and to what extent.

Season 4 of TMA was my favorite for a variety of reasons, but one of them is how they handled the statements. Statements usually paralleled what Jon was dealing with at the time be it loneliness, his own sense of humanity, or guilt. From what I see so far with TMagP, that sort of styling of statements is going to be the entire CORE of the show. The first episode seemed to have the main themes and while I'm unsure of what Daria's session has to 100% do with the cast, there seems to be crumbs of set up there that I'm excited to see later.

To also note, episode 1 is centered around meeting the cast and setting expectations, episode 2 mainly focuses on the statement with elements of the greater cast sprinkled around it. With the new format they can do that and bounce around as needed for whatever structure they're going for of the day. It's a bit more chaotic in that regard. You can't just put a statement on and then listen like for TMA, so you have to pay much closer attention, but I find this structure choice very interesting.

Overall? I'm very interested as to what The Magnus Protocol has in store for us. Just with this new structure, the doors are opened with very different story telling options and to have TMagP have its own identity outside of TMA.

“Y/n?” Its funny how Charles never mentioned it would be you who looked after him during his darkest days. And its crazy how you look exactly the same as you did so many years into the future. “You’re—you’re alright.”

“How do you know my name?” You frown with confusion. “Who are you and what are you doing here?”

“I'm here to see the professor,” Logan tries to stay focused. But the last time he saw you? You had died in his arms. “What happened to the school?”

“Are you a parent? Because the schools been closed for a long time, sir.”

Logans standing face to face with the woman he loves, the woman he lost. Only you don't know who he is. And you're making it incredible hard for him to stay on task.

“Id wanna hope not,” Logan jokes with himself for a second, but the reality was he'd not only lost you—but your daughter too. He never did get to meet her before they took you from him. “I need to see the professor.” Logan pushes his way through, knowing that if he didn't stay committed to his task, that he might take the chance to stay in the past with you forever.

“Theres no professor here!” You shout after the man who's just barreled his way into the rundown school for gifted students. “Listen asshat, ill give you to the count of three to leave or else I'll—” But you don't get to finish your sentence.

“Look lady,” Logan growls, interupting your threat as he turned to fade you. He missed you so fucking much. “You and I are gonna get along really well one day,” He knows you'll be fine. Logan knows a quick cross to the nose will knock you down for a second or two. So with one fluid motion, he does just that. And for what it's worth, Logan tries to keep a pretty stick policy on hitting women. But once you bring mutant DNA into the picture, added with the fact he knows you handle yourself well enough to have him working up a sweat? Whats a guy supposed to do. “You just don't know it yet.”

“Fuck!” You shout as you stumble back incoherently dazed and confused.

“Professor!?” Logan turns nonchalantly, knowing you'll recover quickly. He races up the stairs, taking two, sometimes three at a time.

Only for you to race after him, completely set on beating the absolute crap outta this guy who's let himself into your home.

“Fuckface,” You shout after Logan as you leg it after him down the hall. “Hey! if you don't leave right this second I'm gonna have to ask him to ask you to leave.”

“Ask who?” Logan asks, looking around until he's met with a powerful force of blue rage. Sending him back down the stairs.

“Him.” You smiled, happily watching Hank interact with his new chew toy until Charles ultimately interrupted the fun.

You had just escaped from the hospital wing, your boyfriend helping to escort you there when you had began to feel incredibly nauseous and dizzy during potions class with Professor Sharp. Matron Blainely had insisted that you spent the rest of the day in the hospital wing until whatever ails you passed, having sent Ominis back to class straight after he was sure you were settled. Matron Blainely had run some tests throughout the afternoon and come to only one conclusion, one that you should’ve probably suspected given your most recent turn in your relationship with your boyfriend. You made your way through the door into the room of requirement, having sent Ominis an owl when you were being released from the hospital wing for him to meet you there. You settled on the couch having noticed that he hadn’t arrived yet. Deek appeared a couple minutes later and bowed in front of you saying

“I have a plate full of plain crackers and some soup at Matron Blainely’s request for you Miss Y/N, she said that given your certain situation at the moment you may not feel like eating what is being served for dinner in the Great hall”. You take it gratefully, and chew slowly on the crackers

“Thank you Deek, I appreciate it greatly. Do you mind giving me and Ominis some space while I tell him?” you ask and Deek nods, taking your hand in his small one before he says

“Mr Gaunt has been worried sick about you all day Miss Y/N, kept on calling me to see if I knew any more about your condition. I’m sure he will be positively thrilled to hear your news”. And with that theres a poof and Deek is gone.

You don’t have time to even think or dwell on what Deek had just said to you because the door cracks open and you hear the worried voice of your boyfriend call out

“Y/N? Are you in here? I got your owl and came as quickly as I could” he says as he rushes into the room. You stand and make your way over to him, suddenly very nervous about the whole situation. You had known right from the beginning of your friendship with Ominis that he didn’t care much for his family or for what they had done and how much he wanted to escape. How much after this last year of school he wanted to leave and never return to his families home ever again. You hadn’t really talked about children apart from that if you had them they weren’t to be anything like his family. But you couldn’t help but worry what would happen given that you were both unmarried and - you couldn’t think of that. Your hands are ringing together, a sign of how anxious and nervous you are, something that even though Ominis can’t see he can still pick up

“My sweet Y/N, what is wrong?” he asks, placing his hands gently on your arms to reassure you

“Our babies would be so cute” you say, blurting the first thing that comes to your mind, another anxious trait you had. He raises an eyebrow even more confused as he asks

“Oh yeah?” and you nod your head before gently taking his hands and placing them on the slight bump that is your growing baby. You watch the different expressions flicker across his face, from shock, astonishment and wonder, to happiness and excitement

“Are you serious right now?” he asks, his voice a whisper and you nod leaning in and whispering

“Yes Ominis, we’re having a baby, Blainely thinks I’m about 12 and a half weeks pregnant” 

“We’re having a baby” he whispers before pressing a kiss to your lips and you smile

“Ominis, what does this mean for us and the baby?” you ask and he places a kiss to your forehead

“We have two months left till graduation my sweet girl, and then we can marry and raise this baby  together” he declares as if it was the surest thing in the whole world.

“Are you sure?” you ask and he nods

“Of course I’m sure my sweet girl, a life without you in it just doesn’t seem worth living and now that I know we’re having our own precious little one well that’s even more reason for us to be together don’t you think sweet girl?” he asks and you nod, as tears slip down your face

“I love you Ominis” you whisper and he beams.

imagine an Au where leo was in that prison dimention for a couple of years instead of minutes But doesn't tell anybody

He doesn't tell donnie he no longer has a twin, the thing that connected them the most that made their relationship special, it's not there anymore but donnie doesn't know what changed, theres no reason for him to change like that not with him! They were always mocking eachother, being sassy around eachother being the twins! They were suppoust to do things others didn't their relationship was special!

But now he didn't see leo give him any comebacks, any jugemental side eyes, any playful mockery that he loved so much, leo was just, he was just acting diffrent around him now, he was acting as if donnie was a new friend you don't wanna offend or scare away. so he thinks leo is upset with him and non stop tries to make up for it, not knowing what it even is

He doesn't tell raph that being the oldest is now his job, raph just sees his sweet sweet little brother non stop taking on more and more than he can chew on and he tries to help him he's the olders after all he's here to help but leo? Leo doesn't take the help, hell he even does things for raph sometimes

it confuses him, and scares him, seeing his little brother so changed and so overworked even, it shouldn't be like this but he doesn't know what to do anymore talking doesn't worth and he's not going to argue with leo, not anymore so he just...waits for it to be over

He doesn't tell splinter that he missed on his own son's birthday's, he was already missing so much of time with him, how can he tell his father that he once again missed out on a huge chunk of his life, how can he tell splinter that he is no longer a teen and that he cannot be gently introduced to the idea of adulthood and with time grow into it, he got thrown into it and now has to act like it never happend

splinter sees his son trying to do things he shouldn't, do things that are boring, buy groceries, do the laundry, check up on things that don't need checking. He sees his son doing things he should playfully run away from, the moment he started getting this connection back to his son's, leo just acts like a completly diffrent person, a person he doesn't know, again, he argues he can argue all day but in never get's anything out if leo while it should he's still a teen right? He should enjoy himself and not do this!

He doesn't mess around with mikey anymore, before they would playfuly fight and argue but they would still do stupid things together like go ghost hunting. It's not there anymore. mikey lost his relationship with leo in a way, he now no longer argue's that "The last slice is for me!" He just get's it without a fight from leo, without the fun they had, he tries to ask leo to do stuff with him in the hidden city without telling others but leo's reaction is always "it's too dangerous there" always hoping he would open the portal there and then and follow it with "but we don't care!".

It never happends. It's now just "too dangerous there". Mikey and leo would always be the one with more silly and slightly dangerous ideas that werent really planned out. Now that mikey way the only one who had them, he stopped sharing them at some point. Mikey grieved, mikey cried over it with big fat tears coming out of his eyes Night and night over and over again, grieving as if his brother was dead

He is no longer a teen, he got robbed of his teen years and there is nothing anyone can ever do about it

Honestly I think something like that would make him hate birthdays, a consistent reminder that he's not telling anyone the whole story, that in a sense he's lying...but it's not a big deal! No one will even notice once it becomes a new norm!

okay well. i have a weird life and have lived in like 3 diff countries and have always had incredibly insane experiences but genuinely the only thing that can come to mind rn is catholic anon on tumblr (some catholic guy that chewed me out for like two weeks because i jokingly poked fun of a friend who had a larger following for being a redditor). i miss catholic anon. very important that they were catholic btw.

comes as a surprise to no one but it was either sonic, warrior cats or pokemon. i got into them around the same period of time, i know my warrior cats and pokemon hyperfixation/obsession absolutely lasted so so so much longer. in terms of non-media though, i was always into porpoises and cetaceans even before media stuff

12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

If we are goin purely off 2077...... It's really hard to choose an unpopular one since everyone is simping for someone.

So maybe she'd not unpopular, but she's rarely spoken about, which is Misty.

I think she has one of the more tragic stories, from losing her boyfriend to also losing one of her closest friends and maybe the last link she had to Jackie, through V's path of destruction for the sake of self preservation of them or Johnny. I think seeing your choom turn into another person against their will, (or maybe with their blessing depending what route you choose ofc) has to do something to you, and i think for those reasons alone, makes Misty a sleeper that everyone should baby and take good care of her. I know a lot of the fandom shares the same sentiment but there are far more who even forget who she is.

I love her so much, I named my token piece after her. that and the piece just had real misty energy about her.

Theres an extremely underrated Combat cabby driver, who was there day one in NIGHT RAID's first gig, he saved them from Marcus when he chased them through the NID by slamming his cab and pinning him into the wall, buying another time for MAX-TAC to show up. He was there time and time again, when NIGHT RAID needed him the most. (PERSONALLY I THINK HE WAS PAID TO WATCH THEM) Until the very end. Where he dropped off the team outside the Combat zone of the Inclusion zone.

A day later, they run into the same Corpo Solo that chased them through the streets, but this time he got the jump in on them, with the head of the cabby in head, he tosses it at the feet of the team member Dez.

His name was Boris. RIP buddy, you are missed!

Uh HOW DANGEROUS NIGHT CITY IS!!!!!!

Poeple seriously underestimate how dangerous the city really was, ONLY because its such a peaceful time in 2077. Things just started calming down in the last couple years. Theres a reason why the NCPD have their own MCGRUFF ads stressing the important of safety, because it was very likely that you could get caught up just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or just some MOOK looking for some trouble and you just happened to look like a easy target.

Theres a reason why everyone's affiliated or backed by some bigger entity. Safety in numbers is important in such a dangerous place.

I know you probably going off about it in the 2077 tab in the sever, but I am just sick of everyone pretending that this city wouldn't chew us all and spit us out.

It's as bad as they say.

For my lore........ Honestly the tragic story of Jack Adams. Hardly anyone gives a shit, but I am still torn to this day over it. I CRY SOMETIMES STILL.

Only because I played with the perspective of someone else as johnny (i just cannot bring myself to think trash daddy is romance option when his likeness is of a real person). When I sat and digested a lot of the dialog, and i unwillingly came around to the idea of romancing the brainrot.

Honestly.. After the both started exhibiting signs of Cyberpsychosis, I got on board the Dez x Gordie (night raid members)train. I wasn't not crazy about those two being together at all, but once there was actual problems in their relationship sparking up, is when it got interesting.

So imma answer both

He's 23 currently in my au, he joined the mansion at 17, so he had like, just joined when Twilight joined the Mansion,

which is why he was perfectly okay with just taking her to the mansion; he was stupid and didn't realize he probably shouldn't just bring a complete stranger into the house of murderers without asking anyone first

Compared to the others his room is decorated yet not really messy (there is some mess), he has many posters and some stolen road sides on his walls, he has a few plants in his window sill (somehow still alive). He loves CDs and Vinyls, though he collects more CDs,

he doesn't wear his iconic hoodie much outside of missions so he usually dresses like, grunge, I think that would be the proper term here, mostly browns/tans/and grays, faded graphic tees, all his goddamn jeans are grass stained and/or have rips in them, fingerless gloves (the like half finger kind not the completely fingerless ones), it helps him not chew at his knuckles a bit, (he looks like if a raccoon was human)

Even with a normal sleep schedule he basically always has eye bags, he has freckles, his hair is currently a little grown out (he needs a cut)

Currently within au he is dating EJ (they've only been together for a little bit) and is learning guitar :3, (with the help of EJ)

He is friends with Jeff, Ben, Twil, and EJ, though Compared to Jeff and Ben he is significantly quieter/more chill (at least now, at like 18/19 he acted almost the same as them) though he isn't as quiet as EJ usually is (EJ is selectively Mute)

He's on good terms with Tim and Brian, he kinda has to cause they work together often lol, and due to that hes ended up being cool with Missing hanging out in his room whenever (Missing likes all posters and decor in his room)

Him and Halo don't hang out much but they are friends, Toby helped Halo alot after a certain traumatic event. But now they just chat a little (if Halo is comfortable speaking then) whenever they run into eachother

He still struggles with his mental health and is currently on a few different medications, he has BPD in my au also (I don't remember if it is canon or if I'm just mixing up my au canon and actual canon)

And the one time I was sitting on a sofa and looked at the arm of the sofa and saw a tiny spider there and we maintained eye contact for like 4 seconds before it jumped off the arm and onto the floor and lay there unmoving and I laughed while crying. Reminded me of the time when I tried to climb a tree in muree that was on a mountain and nearly fell off both the tree and mountain.

also the other thought i have right now is that i dont think kiryu knows majima on a deeper personal level. sure he reads the eyepatch guy well enough to know that he can trust him, but i sense that majima wears that mask and never goes in too deep spilling his heart out to kiryu due to him possibly reading kiryu as. not as interested? or busy? unable to recipocrate? lack of strong interest? ofc im missing the bigger context of 1-6 so and im slowly chewing through y1k, it'll be some time before i arrive at a proper full reading at whats going on between these 2 :v

also another thing i just realized is makoto recognizing people by voice thing... theres a chance kiryu also recognized ichiban having a similar voice to nishiki.

Liira! The Necromancer Vampire OC! She has a little skeleton fox friend and likes to host elaborate dance parties with the skeletons in her possession. AKA Superman

BACKSTORY*

Vampire attacked her family, she was the one and only survivor. Instead of joining the coven, she killed them (because they killed her family, duh.) Keeps the skulls of all the vampires as trophies.

(Talked about after the idea of Lira gaining the castle by just squatting there)

She killed the elder vampires as a fledgling through sheer rage, but then had nowhere to go.

She was lost in the woods and a servant found her. Having pity on what they though was a child, the servant took her in as an employee in the castle to provide shelter to the poor thing. Then as people started dying out she rose through the ranks by the simple quality of Not-Dying and when everyone else died she simply became the owner of the castle because she was all that was left.

Servant: *finds this small probably 16yr old in the forest covered in blood*

Servant: you poor thing :( come with me and j can get you a stable job and bed

Unfortunately, liira is just one person, and as more and more people die, it's harder die her to keep up with making the castle lion nice. So it's pretty run down by the time she meets northwind. Theres no electricity, just oil lamps and candles

Or the castle belonged to the vampires and she won it through right of conquest if you prefer, but I think it’d be funny if there’s just a random ass vampire teen who lives in the castle. She doesn’t do dishes or laundry cause ow, running water, but she’s good at dusting high places and can make a bed really well. She doesn’t eat anybody, fledglings her age are only supposed do drink their sire’s blood and she got PLENTY of that so she’s just kind of around. People get old, start to die. Didn’t repopulate fast enough to keep the castle employed. The young lord doesn’t have children after the passing of his parents. Once he grows ill and dies, that’s essentially it. Servants leave in hopes of finding other civilization or lay down and die in their homes. And Liira… watches. She is unchanged in the past two generations. People realized what she is long ago but do not care. They give her well wishes for eternity before passing on. And so Liira is left with her castle. A bit lonely though.

**REANIMATING LORE STUFF and the woods she lives*

Okay here's a random idea

All the animals near liiras castle are dead

You walk through the forest and see a squirrel run by missing fur There's a rotting badger corps digging a hole. The closer you get the more animated dead animals you see

Because she loves icolayed in a forest. She needs to drink some blood to survive, so she goes for the animals. But then she feels bad, so she reanimates their corpses, dispelling more energy, so she needs to eat more - and it's just a cycle

The villagers nearby all died out. The other vampires are gone. It's just her and the animals she feeds on

I think the animals probably intuitively avoid her when their alive. It's how they evolved. The ones who hang out with her are all dead and brainwashed

We established that her undead skeletons don’t actually have the souls of the person they once were, just her memory of how it once was, so the squirrels run around trees and bury nuts, chew on wood chips and flick their tails. But what else do squirrels do? She doesn’t know, so they just do that. On loop. Over and over. The badger roams around and digs holes, fights other animals, and generally sneaks around. Because that’s all badgers do, right? The deer roam, eat grass, follow rivers, and the males fight with their antlers. Birds sing songs but she’s not familiar with the intricacies of different birdsongs so they’re all singing the same song. Fish swim in circles. Mice stockpile vegetation with no real use. Foxes sleep in burrows and ‘hunt’ the mice. None of them exist outside of Liira’s understanding of their ‘roles’

It's so uncanny, and even if you can't tell their dead you can definitely tell there's something Off

Each animals varies, but if you follow one around,, it'll probably cover the same trail over and over. Walking in circles, repeating all the actions they were told to. Every 30 minutes to 5 hours, depending on the animal, they'll pass by that same tree

Her understanding of the animal changes how long the loop is. Squirrels are common, easier to see and learn their behaviors. Those have the longest loop. But more elusive animals? Or seasonal ones? The turkey just gobbles and scratches the ground, walking in the same half mile circle to the east of the river. The rabbits spend two hours idle, sitting still like statues in their warrens without moving because she can’t observe their behavior down there so they have no task in the burrow but she knows they’re there a lot so they go down there for hours on end.

Do you think that's why northwinds tribe left? They were traveling and saw how off the animals were. And it freaked them out so they left too soon for her to get back? I don't remember her lore that well

Imagine you're like, a traveler And you're hungry. So you follow this deer around for 20 minutes. And. It's just doing the same thing, over, and over, and over again. Do you still try and kill/ eat it?

Most hunters would keep a distance anyways, as to not scare the prey off, so they might not notice a slashed throat or blood on its snout. Even if they do, the animal is just weak now so it should be even easier to kill… but you shoot it in the heart and it got back up. Maybe you just missed. Liver shot, same thing. Lung, again. It has three arrows sticking out of it and has yet to stop doing what it was doing. Fine, headshot, let’s get this over with. Clean shot right in the eye! The deer falls. You stand up to run over. The deer stands up as well. You freeze, shaking. The deer’s head sits crooked now, leaning heavily towards the side with the arrow as it casually steps forward in the dry grass field, grazing on nothing as its face does not reach the ground but it mimes it anyways. You run. You run as fast as your legs can take you. You don’t make it out of the forest. No living thing was around to hear your scream.

You kill it and it just keeps getting back up. A horrid imitation of life

And as you run you swear your being followed. A twig snap there. A shadow there. Something grazes your shoulder and when you finally get a glimpse of the creature you're paralyzed by the glowing red eyes. You can't look away.

Just a dead forest of dead creatures

In a way you got what you wanted. You were hungry… and the dead have no need for food.

And now you get to dance

Forever.

while i certainly agree that satanic aspects in horror movies is, at this point, kinda beating a dead horse, but i think it's also considered the 'root' of all horror, in a western sense at least. unfortunate because it sort of shoulders away not only other religions, but other wild ass concepts like how far you can push something like Cosmic horror, but at the same time, i feel like Longlegs can even be viewed through THAT lens, simply because there's a lot of 'well, what if?' scenarios.

like for example! Lee's 'psychic' abilities- i've seen people come up with ideas that Lee isn't psychic at all and it being even kinda confirmed in the film with her saying 'i also missed eight,' when discussing how she got eight right on her test, so she's right half the time, which isn't really that remarkable, it's only made remarkable because of the scale of the things she predicts (her partner not listening to her, being the biggest)- but it could also be something as it's not her at all, it's simply Longlegs in her head. at the point of her predictions she was still 'possessed' to a degree, Ruth begged Longlegs to not hurt her, who's to say he wouldn't go out of his way to drop little hints and gut feelings for her, for the sake of keeping something he perceived as a 'little angel' safe? but also, why would someone so evil really care in the first place? what does Longlegs believe he's doing? is it human at all, or something else? is it really dead? i think its neat!

i do feel that towing the line of uncanny valley with a character like Longlegs would be interesting- making limbs longer, doing something that just makes him a bit more unnerving to look at would be a tight rope to try and walk. i think the details of his makeup now, wary as it may be to some viewers, was excellent in the 'what am i LOOKING at' type of way- how is hair looked punched in like the dolls, his eyes that were difficult to look at for long, how he looked like a 'something isnt right' with how he spoke and moved- i think they made a good representation of what a nightmare could look like, or what the antichrist would present itself as. his appearance of course is going to stir the pot, and i think that may be intentional, because people are going to try and make sense of a walking nightmare, of something evil, and some peoples nightmares may be something that just doesnt look right, while others may be horrified to see a nightmarish portrayal of an overplayed stereotype that may, inevitably, harm them. kind of like a pennywise in a way? but then again, i may be looking into that aspect way too much!

i really think like comparing it to Silence of the Lambs was something that was't really intended, but more of a way for the director to be like 'it fits in this category' of a thriller/ crime-genre, this with supernatural undertones, to the point where i'd compare it more to something like Sinister despite how silly that movie got towards the end. the plots are pretty similar, with a wildly different protagonist, but again with the 'it's a demon!/ it's got something to do with satan!' aspect kind of shoveled in. it had a lot of people going in expecting something different and walked out disappointed because it wasn't that, and at the end kind of boiled down to 'this antichrist-adjacent character uses dolls and balls and a loving mother to commit horrible atrocities', and i can see where people are like 'thaaat is not the type of horror i like, that's actually pretty silly.' i think theres some substance to chew on even if the film feels a little hand holdy, because there's always a question that can be asked that sometimes doesn't have an obvious answer. BUT!!! that is why we have opinions!!!!! and thats important!!!!

HOWEVER, yes, the marketing deserves all the praise it can get, it stirred up an audience already pretty well fed when it comes to horror this year and made a ton of money, and i hope they get their cut because it is WELL deserved.

i am YAPPING but honestly fr you get it- saw 5's banter was top tier for the franchise, and as a big hoffman fan myself, for sure one of the best ones. 6 is near and dear not only because the traps but the very loud and blatant 'hey the way shit is run through dogpits picking out errors from the sick needing help sucks, actually' which is, as faaarr as i remember, one of the loudest messages from the saw franchise (other than, like, 'dont be an asshole,' i guess?).

5 did have HoffStahm golden moments and the glass coffin - and Strahms death is probably the one that actually made me gagging in the theater with just the brutality of it. here's to the next one with (hopefully) some more hoffman because his little ending in the most recent with john & the tummy tickler trap has me hoping we'll see some more of him :""")

Again I do like this reading it’s so much more interesting then what i got out of the movie lmaooo im choosing to think about it your way because it’s so much more fun than what I walked away feeling

I think you are super right about the difference between expectations and reality, I actually didn’t read anything or watch more than the first trailer because I find I like movies more when I don’t go in with a lot of prior knowledge. But I definitely let the rounds of “this is the scariest film I’ve ever seen!” Get to me, so I think I walked in wanting a film that was very scary rather than more of a story focused film. And yeah I think it’s just not my cup of tea, if my horror film is story based i want much more thought out and nuanced story than I felt I got with longlegs (I am spoiled by Jordan peele and Ari aster lol) but as much as I think the story wasn’t well thought out in reality it DOES give a lot of room for speculation and filing in the gaps

I do like the speculation about Lee’s abilities, and I do subscribe to the theory that they’re somehow tied to her doll/its ‘brain!’ My biggest question walking away from the film was ‘why are the brains so significant in the dolls?’ I like to think it’s longlegs way of making them feel whole, and the satanic stuff was incidental in why Lee could sense stuff from them, that they’re a part of the child they’re made for and not special on purpose. But it’s probably connected to a satanic ritual if I had to guess? Idk, I think there are some interesting questions left I’m just not sure if they were intentional.

I also think my favorite part of the story was longlegs being connected to Lee’s mom, but I really wish there’d been a bit more of a build up to it, and I wish Lee was more of a PI than an FBI agent, I feel like a lot of the crime/thriller aspects were ruined by how fast the crime got solved in favor of Satan. I did love the dynamic between her and Lee tho, the character work in this movie was really good!!

And yeah, I don’t really think longlegs is like….intentionally calling to some stereotypes I think it was just something they thought would be creepy and didn’t think about the implications of. And I can definitely see the makeup and voice and everything being creepy, i also went in after watching 2 nick cage movies with some friends and the whole time i could NOT unhear cage which ruined that effect. Word of advice, don’t watch more than one nick cage movie at a time all you will see is nick cage

YESS I love how like 90% of the saw franchise is like being an addict is bad get saw trapped and suddenly saw 6 is like “the systems of capitalism we live in promote dishonesty and immorality because exploiting people for money is easier than being honest” with a side of “im john Kramer and you fucked me over” my favorite switch up ever. It also has the added benefit of the gallows trap where jigsaw just bullies that young guy for not having any friends, I love that one. The oxygen crusher too…man that was evil and I would die immediately (<- asthmatic) so i can like. Feel that one everytime I watch the movie

I always say the only franchise I support is saw because. Well I think they are fun. I really do hope we finish Hoffman’s story and I hope they continue the tradition of showing “the younger version of himself” by smacking on a backwards baseball hat.

He was just eating away, almost as sloppily as Billy the night before but it warmed your heart.

You never cooked for anyone other than your father and seeing your love interest indulge in your cooking made you feel some type of way.

Hell, you barely touched your own bowl of stew. No, you were just content watching him enjoy his warm meal.

Hannibal and Billy were also clearly enjoying your food, having not said a word since they began to chow down.

The only sounds in their home were slurping and chewing and you patted yourself on the back for that.

"I'm glad you like the stew," you said with a content giggle.

"Like it?" Silas scoffed. "Darlin, I love this. Best possum stew I've ever had."

"I agree, boss," Billy perked up. "This is delicious."

"Looks like the little lady does know how to make a mean possum stew. I'm impressed too," Hannibal chimed in. "Yeah, we're never gonna let you go back to your daddy."

Silas chuckled.

"She already made her choice," he responded before he rubbed your back. "She's one of us now."

You giggled to yourself before you kissed his cheek.

"Happy to be one of you," you stated. "Any of you boys want seconds?"

"I got it, little lady. Why don't you eat? You barely touched your bowl."

"Oh, I don't mind," you assured before Silas held you down.

"Hannibal got it," he insisted. "Now eat. I don't want you going hungry worrying about us."

"I know you don't," he cooed before he gently kissed you. "You spoil us way too much."

"Well, I'm appreciative. Honestly, I've enjoyed my time here. I hate to admit it, but I barely miss my pa."

Silas didn't respond. Instead he hugged you tight and kissed one of the love bites that decorated your neck.

You fell deeper into his embrace and then began to eat. But as you ate, your sense of taste felt even more exhilarated by the warmth of the old bandit's body wrapped around yours.

It was a strange phenomenon to you, but welcomed nonetheless. It did make the stew taste even better after all.
