You always have the best thought out and researched Hobie takes, so I have a punkflower question for you. How does Hobie respond to his boyfriend's father being a cop? I feel too many fics and creators tend to brush it under the rug. How do you think that situation would pan out?
OOOOHHH YAY HOBIE AND COP STUFFFFF SO lets talk about
Miles, Hobie, and Having a Dad In Blue
[I'm gonna be transparent like Miles - there's no open romance in this. This is mainly a short thing about Hobie helping Miles heal from the pressures of his family - just wanted to give a heads up so no one gets to the end and gets disappointed lol]
Honestly, when I think about it -
I think Hobie's first reaction would be more about Miles, than it would be his own feelings.
Like I don't think his first thought would be 'ew' or 'that's horrible' . I think automatically his first thought would be -
'That makes a lot of sense'.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First thing that pops into his head.
Hobie and Miles come from two very different universes, and the ways they handle their shared identity of Spider-man is really different too.
We hear it directly in Hobie's introduction - He's NOT a Role Model.
But earlier in the movie, Officer Davis' biggest gripes with Spider-man - with Miles - is that he is not enough of a role model.
Miles is trying his best. He wants to be a good hero for his dad's sake - knowing one day the cat will be out of the bag.
That's different than Gwen and her father. Her father already knows GhostSpider as a murderer, and there's no reversing that. Gwen knew her father would never accept her - so she hasto keep it a secret - in definitely.
She'll never be a role model to her father - and she's not trying to be anymore. That's Gwen's arc.
An arc Miles hasn't gone on yet. He still wants to be a role model. He wants his dad to idolize and like Spider-man because he doesn't plan to keep it a secret indefinitely.
Unlike Gwen, he wants his father to know who he is.
But he can't - he still feels like he has something to live up to - a code of honor he feels he isn't reaching.
Miles wants to be good enough.
So Hobie sees him going through this struggle all the time, of wanting to be like Peter, wanting to impress his dad, worrying about telling his parents. And not knowing the source -
And then Miles is like "OH By the way, my dad's a cop."
I feel like it would just click for Hobie. He'd be like "That makes a lot of sense, if I'm being honest."
If anything I think he'd feel for Miles first and foremost. That's what Hobie does.
He'd immediately see Miles, and the effect his dad has on him, in both good and bad ways. His dad helps Miles strive to be better - but that also leaves him feeling guilty and alone.
I think he'd go on to be like "That's gotta be tough. Is that the reason why you X, Y, Z?"
And Miles - Poor Miles probably wouldn't even pick up on this until that very moment. Having Hobie say to this him would probably leave him a little shook.
But it'd be SO relieving.
Gwen and Miles don't talk about their family. Gwen isn't a talky person. Miles doesn't really have anyone to talk to about his family dynamic or his situation at home.
Like even Miles!42 - His uncle Aaron KNOWS he's Prowler. Miles doesn't have that support.
And then Hobie would give it to him, and be like 'I understand', 'That must suck', 'You don't have to be a role model, you just have to be yourself.'
Hobie offers that support all without Miles asking - (Miles is finna cry)
All because Miles having a cop as a dad immediately explains a lot of the struggles he's going through. And Hobie can see that. It makes him frustrated and he'd want to at least be someone Miles can talk to.
Like police corruption and oppression aside, living in the shadow of someone with a black and white view of right and wrong, or good and bad, sucks.
Growing up under someone who abides by order and swears by it SUCKS, because the world in unorderly. The universe is.
Hobie knows this. Him meeting Officer Davis however is a whole thing -
Honestly speaking, I'd think he'd look at Miles dad with pity. Like 'Damn you're a good father and a good husband - but you're a cop'.
He'd probably turn up to the cookout, make himself and his views known (not changing the laces) and if Miles' dad really finds a problem with them he can ask.
Hobie will happily tell him "I'm not from here. The place I'm from is a lot less nice and a lot more corrupt than this one. What I did ain't fun - but it was in the name of liberty. I guess you know all about 'defending liberty', don't you? You wear a blue uniform to remind you. I wear blue laces."
Because it's the truth. Hobie will say that shit without blinking. Standing there like
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'Now is there a problem, officer?' Just because he wears blue laces DOESN'T mean he lacks a moral code.
Hobie has a moral code. A VERY strong one - and simply in the way he carries himself, you can tell that he's committed to that code.
Maybe even more than Officer Davis. They have two different moral codes, but I'm sure Miles dad can identify on sight - and respect - 'We both are the type to stand by what we think is right'
Because by Hobie not changing himself, he's showing that he won't bend his morals for Miles' family. But there's differences in the way they operate and that's okay.
But ALL IN ALL -
I think Hobie learning about Miles' Dad would
Bring them closer together. For the first time Miles has words and reason behind the pressure he feels. Why he looks up to his dad and is annoyed with him at the same time. Hobie would catch the connection right away, and open the discussion. And Miles is open to talking, we see it in their scene before Miguel's office. I think having that outlet would help Miles SO much. I feel like he'd become more confident over night. Hobie telling him there's no rules or laws or academy when it comes to being Spider-man. There are certain circumstances where the police just can't help. That's what Spider-man is for. To go above and beyond the black and white authority society has created. It'd be so liberating for Miles.
Garner some respect between Officer Davis and Hobie. It kinda sounds backwards. But lets be honest, if they're at the dinner table and Officer Davis asks about one of Hobie's political patches - he's gonna tell him what he thinks straight out. Hobie's wearing a 'Dearm the Police' patch and Miles' dad asks about it - Hobie's gonna be like 'Yeah, they don't need those weapons. The lot of them are already weapons themselves.' And of course Officer Davis is gonna want a conversation about it, and Hobie loves hearing himself talk. But it never gets heated. It's them going back and forth dropping these huge points and citing examples and bringing up theoretical scenarios. It's just - THEY KEEP TALKING. Rio is like 'Hun, please your food is getting cold.' And Jeff is like 'One second - *Turns to Hobie* In 1983 there was a court case about a cop- *continues his long as counterpoint*' What even more interesting - HOBIE HAS A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF HISTORY THAN JEFF. Yeah, all those cases in the 70's that Jeff was a baby for. Yeah, Hobie was there and a teenager - the equivalent of cases still match up. So Jeff is debating at the dinner table with a dude who is technically older than him - but he doesn't know that so Hobie keeps catching him off guard with that SMUG ASS GRIN Miles is sighing under his breath like 'Hobie COME ON let him win PLEASE' So for Miles, and ONLY MILES, Hobie lets it slide. Until Jeff turns on the TV. And the first thing they see on the screen is s report about politics and NOW THEY'RE BACK AT IT AGAIN FUCK Hobie pointing at the screen like 'Case & Point, m8. Thats exactly what I mean!' Fuck outta here, Hobie will debate till the cows come home.
It'd help Miles and his dad a lot Officer Davis would probably be left with a HUGE amount of respect for Hobie. Because yeah he looks like a delinquent - to someone obvious trained by the system. But Hobie knows his shit. He knows how to maneuvour in conversation, how to pick peoples brains, and understand their reasoning. He GENUINELY wants to have a conversation. Because he genuinely believes he can back himself up in a calm and logic way. So why not talk about it? After Hobie leaves there would always be a silence - and that's because yeah they went back and fourth for 40 minutes, but Hobie ALWAYS leaves you with something to think about. Or consider. Or re-evaluate. Honestly Miles has NO idea what his dad thinks. Usually his dad would be ranting still - but he looks more thoughtful. Just replaying the discussion he had with Hobie. Miles might ask his dad what he thinks - but his dad might say something vague like Officer Stacy did - call him a 'piece of work' It isn't until later when Miles' dad knocks on his door that he realizes how much Hobie has an impact. Even if his dad didn't know about his secret identity - I think he would see how much his police training effects his home and Miles in specific. How much pressure that can put on someone. Officer Davis would replay the story Hobie told him of the unnamed girl whose father shot at her. And he'd consider how anyone could choose their badge over their kid. Maybe he has a discussion with Miles, apologizes for the pressure he puts on him, telling Miles he's proud of him.
And Miles would know it's all because of Hobie. Because Hobie cares about him and Hobie knows how to approach people, all type of people.
Officer Davis would KNOW how Hobie feels about cops. And he's know why. He'd at the very least understand Hobie, or respect him. Hobie would make him realize - 'Oh hey, you don't have to be a role model to be a good person'.
Because Hobie Brown is NOT a role model. He's something better.
That's just how I see it. I think Hobie is a great mediator tbh. It's his strongest talent. It's the reason why Miles trusts him to much to begin with.
ANNNDDD As per usual if you made it this far - THANK YOU!!!! The gift shop is to the left. As courtesy here is a photo of Hobie with a bonus photo of Miles that I think is really really funny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know why that photo of Miles is SOOO funny to me- I think its the fact his hands are in fists his expression is so unreadable IT LOOKS LIKE HES ABOUT TO SOCK ME IN THE MOUTH Im in legit tears laughing at that
Bye.

anyway tell me something you’re obsessed with at the moment
okay i had to wait to answer this ask so i could tell you about something that isnt temeraire anfhsj ,, let me tell you about no home cus i spent two days last week binging the entire thing up to the current chapter n ive been periodically staring off into space thinkin about the characters since then. its insane its actually insane its also one of the best manhwas ive ever read. literally have no way to describe it other than in terms of madness because i dont understand how someone could write something this good?? what the hell. what
general premise is: two guys end up living in some old haunted house as part of a deal with their high school so they dont have to return to their houses with their family. the thing is that this is really not about the haunted house but its actually centred around these two and their complicated relationship — god their relationship is SO good; there’s no romance, theres plenty of fights, theres plenty of ‘i gotchu bro’ moments, someone in the comments described it like they are each others biggest haters and supporters and yeah that sums it up perfectly.
its also supremely stressful like i didnt think something thats so character-centred and not partocularly fantastical or thrillerish could stress me out this much but it did its so so tense. (edit: on second thiught, this is a drama. of course it would be tense. although i dont expect this level usually anyway so my point still stands) was literally curled up in bed clutching at my chest and scrolling at mach speed to get through it. and again thats cus of the main two’s relationship because theres so many ups and downs and its such good food i wish i could forget it and reread it all over again because i love this manhwa with all my heart wow,,
also when i say it’s character centred — no home is not only about the main two boys but it also explores the backstories of many side characters, and in all of them theres this running theme of being disconnected from your home or your family in different ways. like the title. there is a lot of heavy topics explored and all of it is so REAL like i cant imagine the amount of time and research poured into it because how the author/artist (i cant remember if theyre the same person oops) portray the issues and characters and relationships in this manhwa is so realistic and thoughtful. the characters too surprise you in different ways there is so much growth and personality in everyone its really so fun
finally the art is great !! its pretty cute and simplistic but i think its really, really good at conveying emotions. if u read it u will understand. the eyes

what happens when his saturn in my 4th house and his mars & Venus in my 7th house 💙
hey hey loves!
when someone's saturn falls into your 4th house saturn's presence can suggest that themes of responsibility, discipline, and structure are significant in your home and family life or that they bring these elements into these spaces for you. in the context of a relationship, this placement can indicate a deep sense of commitment and loyalty to your partner, as well as a desire for stability and security in your domestic environment. that being said, saturn can also bring challenges and obstacles in these areas, such as issues related to authority, boundaries, or the past. it could be that you find that you need to work through these challenges together, learning to establish healthy boundaries and create a securer sense of security within your relationship.
now, with his mars and venus in your 7th house it can suggest a strong emphasis on relationships, partnerships, and marriage within your relationship. mars bringing passion, energy, and assertiveness to your partnership, while venus adds love, harmony, and a desire for connection. this placement can indicate that your relationship is dynamic, passionate, and deeply fulfilling, with a strong physical and emotional connection between you and your partner. at the same time, it can also indicate a tendency towards conflict or power struggles, as mars can sometimes be aggressive or confrontational, especially when it feels threatened.
overall, the combination of Saturn in your 4th house and mars and venus in your 7th house has the potentiality to create complex dynamics in your relationship. on one hand, saturn's influence can bring a sense of seriousness and maturity to your partnership, encouraging you to approach your relationship with a long-term perspective and a commitment to working through challenges together. on the other hand, mars and venus in the 7th house can add passion, romance, and excitement to your relationship, keeping it dynamic and vibrant.
balancing these energies could require some conscious effort and communication. saturn's influence can sometimes dampen the spontaneity and passion of mars and venus, leading to a sense of routine or stagnation in the relationship. it could be important to find ways to keep the romance alive and nurture the emotional connection between you and your partner, even as you navigate the challenges and responsibilities of saturn in the 4th house. working together to establish clear boundaries, communicate openly, and maintain a sense of adventure and playfulness can help you create a relationship that is both stable and emotionally fulfilling.
strong indication that theres a bit of passion, beauty, intimacy, thrill, attraction, to your relationship but with a grounded sacredness and foundation for growth once the work needed for such experiences have been respected.
hope this was helpful! 🤸🏿‍♀️

I made it a challenge to myself to watch all the teen dramas, and I think I have finally watched them all (at least the classics). Since I have finished all the teen soaps, I think I shall rate them with my bias opinions (this is 2010s and later only)....
#1: Teen Wolf. I debated adding the supernatural ones to this list, but alas I had to. This show is #1 because it embodied everything teen drama with actually good acting, an iconic villain (Void!Stiles) and a ship I would die for (Stydia). this show had everything the teen dramas were hoping for, there is an actually lovable main character, an even more loved best friend, and an epic story of romance and saving the world every day while still in highscool. what more could you ask for?
#2: since supernatural teen soaps are in this, Buffy the Vampire Slayer will always have my heart. This show went beyond teen angst and became a much deeper, emotional show as it matured with the audience, but it will forever be a classic and would make #1 if it weren't for the whole deeply moving and painful season where Buffy grappled with wanting to be dead and trying not to hate her friends from tearing her away from heaven.
#3: Gossip Girl. This show had everything a teen drama could ask for. Rich people, more rich people who just acted like they were poor but they lived in a giant apartment in Brooklyn, love triangles, back and forth will they or won't they, and the best mystery of the 2000s: who is GG??? the best part about this show was I loved to hate every character on this show, and it made me even more invested every episode.
#4: The OC. This might come to a shocker to most, but this show (though was a little too serious sometimes) was the only teen drama I watched where they had almost as much humor as they did angst. Summer and Seth were the soul of this show, truthfully, and it was the only teen angst show that had me loving every character by the end. It embodied the essence of highschool teen drama shenanigans like any TV show would attempt and misrepresent and I forever will love it for it.
#5: The Vampire Diaries. This show gets #5 for iconic stats only, if I'm honest. However there's something about tvd that makes me want to rewatch just about every new month. With the most iconic couple, Damon and Elena as a plus, theres still the epically annoying love triangles, it's poor acting, and the never ending amount of necks these vampies snapped. this show will always baffle me for its pull on ppl (me included) with some of the most annoying main characters to exist leading most the show. The entire TVD franchise is attached to this, because I refuse to add any of the other spins offs in this list.
#6: One Tree Hill. This show, if being rated for this soap opera plots alone, would've been #1 on this list. One Tree Hill was the embodiment of pointless fighting, ridiculous plots, and epic love triangles. Nothing beats how this show idolized basketball, and how it demonized a dad that never had any real reason to be such a horrible dad. like seriously, why did he hate Lucas sm??? it was never really ever explained. For me personally, this show made #6 merely because I'm a girl who loves a good ship, and there was never a ship I was ever truly invested in for this show. Naley was lovely, but I never could get too invested in any of these characters. They were always very 2 dimensional and had very little growth (aside from Nathan and Brooke, obviously).
#7: Veronica Mars. This show honestly belongs up there with BTVS with its witty dialougue, interesting and dramatic myteries, love to hate characters, and the epic love story that is LoVe. however it gets knocked down to 7th place due to its lack of an ending and then the creator's absolutely ruining the entire show by giving us one more season with the worst ending to exist (and I've seen HIMYMs ending).
#8: Dawson's Creek. This show is a mix of hate and love for me, though it does hold a special place in my heart. It belongs higher up the list for its wordy dialogue, perpetual declarations of love and the meaning of life, and its never ending love triangle. I loved Pacey, Joey, Jen, and Jack very dearly in this show. They all were precious characters who all grew up tremendously (especially Jen and Pacey). and of course, Pacey and Joey's love story might just be one of the best ones in all of teen dramas. however, it gets demoted down to the lonely number 8 because I simply just did not like Dawson. Sadly, it being called Dawson's Creek, he was quite a regular in the show, too. even plots usually circulated around him most episodes. He was self righteous, selfish, narcissistic, a manipulator, and truly he never changed until the final episodes. I always thought I hated Elena in tvd, but at least with Elena she meant good. Dawson wanted nothing but his way, and most of his actions (like his hate for Pacey) were purely because he was a whiny baby that hated that he didn't get what he wanted. I mean, Pacey and Joey were literally fighting about telling him - on their way to tell him in that very moment. Joey was the one who didn't want to tell Dawson the most - and yet Dawson spent the rest of the show (until the final episodes) hating his best friend for simply loving someone Dawson decided he had dibs on. Joey and Pacey were the only thing that kept me watching, since Jack and Jens plots were few and far between the longer the show went on.
#9: This placement really is just for all the other teen dramas I left out, especially for the shows that were an odd mix of drama and comedy, or never really had any opportunity to fall into any of the classic teen drama trends. some honorable mentions would be Freaks and Geeks, Gilmore Girls, Degrassi (I just refuse to watch Degrassi, tbh), Charmed, and 90210.
#10: and last and most certianly least, Pretty Little Liars. I hated this show, and truthfully never finished the last seasons. I just skipped and watched the finale because I became so irritated with every aspect of this entire series. However, it's start was good, and I will always remember the thrill of watching the first season and trying to peice together just who A really was.

OH MY GOD MY FAVORITES??? HOW CAN I CHOOSE THERES SO MANY UR SO CRUEL TO ME </3 (jk)
Ok ok I’ll give u some of my favorites hehe cuz I can’t simply choose just one
Volcano. Automatically Volcano. Might even be my number one?? Literally any time I listen to Volcano now I think of this fic. Like it was just PERFECTION on top of PERFECTION almost made me cry I loved it so much. You packed so many details into it too and I really love coming back to it every once in a while to see what else I catch that I missed before. Also Hannie??? I love my Hannie ok. Volcano was just a masterpiece and I loved her sm truly deserves the best.
Invisible Thread up next! Part one is one of the first fics I read by you I think? Took me a while to come on anon ik ik 🫡 but both parts were just *chef’s kiss* and I loved how they intertwined with each other and complimented each other perfectly. They built off one another and you really saw the character development and growth reading from each part like 🥹 loved her sm. Part two was also a nice comfort for me cuz I wasn’t feeling well when it came out but reading it felt like a warm hug and I really appreciated that comfort at the time.
You’re in the Wind, I’m in the Water is gonna be my third choice hehe. I absolutely love how Hyunjin’s photos birthed this cuz it was so BEAUTIFUL??? And part two absolutely had me hooked. I really loved the sequences and I’m an absolute romance fiend so I was really loving the second part hehe.
Ok I’m not done cuz I can’t forget your drabbles too??? I love them equally hehe. First off the Seungmin drabble where you realize you don’t have to act a certain way around him. Mmm yup that one hit I loved it and wanna give it a lil smoochie. I feel like Seungmin was such a perfect choice for that.
Keeping the Seungmin train going, the other drabble you made where he comforted the reader who tends to bottle up their emotions. Again, hit very hard but was such a great comfort.
Okee last drabble would beeeeee the Chan one of him being proud of you at the end of a hard day. I love comfort fics and you really write them well hehe.
I’ll end this off by also saying I really love all your Hyunjin brain rots too. Like your essay I asked you to write about why you love him? Had me in tears. I just really loved reading it and I feel your understanding of the members REALLY blossoms all of your writings more. Cuz like, you understand them deeper than some may. That’s how I feel at least. I think that really helps to make the fics you write, even just the mini drabbles, feel so much more alive.
I love you, I love your brain, I love your writing, and I’m excited to see what you come up with next year <3
(Also sorry this was long lol)

reading from what was answered before what makes a story a masterpiece as you say? Theres so many fanfictions out there what makes you guys definition "masterpieces" along with the fics you all chosen to be masterpieces. only curious
So to answer your question, we go first by the objective aspects and later by the subjective aspect because fanfiction is writing. Writing is art, and so subjectivity plays a big part on what we consider a masterpiece.
Objective aspect:
I. The prose:
it is a fanfiction. It should be written in a beautiful way. ( we don't particularly mean the grammar) we mean the prose must speak about the author style. If you have read an out of contest paragraph of certain fanfic author, you can tell who wrote it. In the previous ask, the three fics listed have very amazing prose. The use of metaphor is immaculate in comet. The pacing and the choice of word in the dialogue of Mrs Mikaelson is perfect. Bewitched is excellent in the key aspect of romanticism ( the literature definition of it. Not the romance)
II. The world building: fanfiction by principles is borrowing a character and often a literary universe. Sometimes, it's stop at borrowing the characters while making the lore and the world surrounding the characters amazing. So, the three fics ( bewitched, comet, and Mrs Mikaelson) stay in the supernatural universe of tvd. Yet, the lore is better than anything Julie plec ever thought about. The magical aspect incorporated in those fics. The development of the witch universe. The apprentice aspect of Bonnie as a witch until the act of mastery.
III. The interaction between all characters: most people read fanfiction stories for the ship ( that means 2 or 3 characters) and some authors may believe that all the remaining characters are plot device or props to place the ship under a better light. There are that very redundant aspect of bashing in Bonnie centric fic. Elena bashing, Caroline bashing, etc. Often, it results in decentering Bonnie from the story. We don't read a fic for Bonnie to be the perfect victim while x or y are evil. In comet, Bonnie and Caroline don't have the best relationship. Yet, the interaction between them is beautifully executed. The faults of each are revealed. Besides the bashing, there are the aspects where the side characters are poorly developed and the story seems unnatural because the side characters don't have any reason to exist. Side characters are important for the pacing of the story. The side characters are the skeleton the story need to maintain its shape. Mrs Mikaelson excels in that aspects. In that fic , the mistery around Marcel and the part he plays into Bonnie recent issues is so interesting. Now , main characters interaction. If you have read bewitched, you understand what we mean by intense. Klaus and Bonnie dynamic. The transformation of their relationship. The organic growth. Many authors fail in that aspects. The romance is rushed and forced too often. Some random kind act to Bonnie and boom she is in love. Some touch and she is thinking about whatever love interest she has. ( exaggeration is obviously used here)
IV. Emotional range of the story: we recommend Mature ( fanfiction net) fics or explicit fics (AO3). Regrettably, eroticism often takes precedent over all emotions. It would not be so bad if most of the smut were actually interesting to read or written in a manner that was worth the effort to read them. Unfortunately, many Bonnie centric authors imitates the style of whatever successful writer in their respective ship. So how often we read the same tired awesome, toes curling sex written with the very same words. Too many times. Often we jump those paragraphs and go back to the story. Now, we are hunting for emotions. Often, there is none. The fic is nothing but endless words to get to another smut. The plot has disappeared. The character development never made it past the appealing prologue. The author no longer knows what plot twist could save its story. So here, we are. We wasted hour reading something that made us apathetic. The fic has no emotional range. No laughters, no tears, no discomfort, no anxiety. Nothing but badly written smut and two empty vessels called a ship. Mrs Mikaelson has an extensive array of emotions. The worry over Bonnie present situation. What is happening with her. Why the dinner. There are the flashback and the little joy that they bring. Comet is all about the lost of Klaus. However, Bonnie has no idea she lost Klaus. So any reader get invested in that unnamed feeling. Her unease is the reader unease. Yet, we as reader know of their past relationships. We know of the memory klaus erased. The relationships between Bonnie and hope takes away the sadness. It is warm. It is loving. There is a secret. As a reader, you want Bonnie to understand why she cares so much for hope. Then Caroline and Bonnie, you wonder what killed their friendship. It is truly nothing but distance. Their exchange is full of awkwardness and regrets. Bewitched is a great take on isolation and attachment. It is melancholic and still hopeful in a way. Bonnie falling for Klaus is an emotional journey.
V. character authenticity
When we read a fanfiction, we want Bonnie to be Bonnie. Often, we get the author fantasy of what Bonnie would have been if she was Elena. Too often, Bonnie centric authors treat Bonnie as some character to replace Elena or Caroline. So many times, Bonnie is only a name to an OC or a doll for the male character.
Subjective aspects:
The author style: we love melancholy. We love a story with a good pacing. We love author who describes a room in many words that are simply used for the aesthetic aspect of the text.
The emotions: Comet brings forth the tears. Mrs Mikaelson brings out the anxiety that you feel when a loved one is in danger. Bewitched just touch the soul in every aspect.
Melancholy saturates all those fics. The words jump out of the screen. There are attachments for the characters. We cared for the outcome of the fic. We cared for every character. We were invested in every lines. We didn't jump chapter looking for a readable paragraph. We didn't return on the previous chapter to understand how a connection formed because the connection happened before our eyes.
So what makes a masterpiece for BBK , a realistic story that keeps its originality. Plus all the non included thing like personal preference about the type of story we enjoy.

rey! do you have any recs for kdramas? i have never watched any, but i like lovable characters and romance ? thank you in advance!
Tumblr media
I DO IN FACT HAVE DRAMA RECS HII not all of these will be kdramas, but ill start with the kdramas ive watched and enjoyed and ill include all the warnings for them that i can remember off the top of my head and a brief synopsis for u!
kdramas-
1. weight lifting fairy kim bok joo
this was probably one of the first kdramas i saw people post about in like 2015 and i watched a little bit of it in 2016 but then only just got around to finishing it last year. the basic gist of it is its about a young sports college weight lifter, kim bok joo, centering around her navigating through her life and trying to figure out who she is and what she wants in life and what she wants to be. her romantic interest in the show is a swimmer and they have a sort of rivals to friends to lovers, he is SO in love with her and its adorable. i absolutely loved the side characters in this show theyre all so fun and kim bok joos best friends and weight lifting team are especially delightful. my main warning would be that this show addresses eating disorders and theres a lot of mention of both weight gain and weight loss, theres also a plot point early on where kim bok joo has a crush on her eventual love interests older brother but it gets resolved and the older brother literally goes "i didnt realize you had a crush on me and if i knew that i wouldnt have been so friendly with you, it would be completely innapropriate for us to be in a relationship". overall its a really sweet and emotional fun show but if you have issues with weight talk id skip this one
2. tale of the nine tailed
this one is really recent from last year and i didnt expect to be so hooked by it but boy howdy did i get attached to all the characters and the wild plot. it feels hard to explain the plot but basically a nine tailed fox named lee yeon is living in modern day seoul and is working for the underworld finding paranormal spirits/creatures/other rogue foxes that are causing havoc on the world, hes resigned himself to living this life while waiting for his girlfriend who died tragically 600 years ago to come back to life because he traded his status as a mountain god in order to ensure that her soul would one day be reincarnated. a plucky investigative journalist named nam ji ah figures out that hes not human and shenanagins ensue because she looks exactly like his dead girlfriend oooooo whatll happen. the plot beyond that gets really wild and its hard to explain and is easier to just watch. if u enjoy paranormal adventures this one is good. my one big complaint and issue with this is that the immortal mountain spirit meets his original girlfriend when shes a child and she continues to visit him off and on as she grows up which is Hm I Dont Like That! but thankfully the present time romance our female lead meets him when shes about 30 if im remembering right. also warnings for general fantasy violence, references to child abuse, animal death, and abandonment issues
3. extraordinary you
HUGE unreality warning for this. if you have issues with feeling unreal or have paranoia/delusions about not being a real person id avoid this one just because of its premise
ok i know i said tale of the nine tailed was a hard plot to explain but BOY extraordinary you is even HARDER to explain. because its so wild but so good. its about a girl who realizes that she is literally a side character in a comic book, and the story becomes her trying to change the story to save her character from dying but it becomes a lot more than that. the romance in this is literally tooth achingly sweet and the show itself is very pretty, i loved the side characters in this one and the show was engaging and interesting to watch it became really layered and meta. super reccomend this one honestly. my main issues/warnings that i can remember off the top of my head were just one character being the classic controlling boyfriend stereotype, bullying someone specifically for being poor, unreality like i mentioned before, and then at the very end there was this love interest for a side character who got reincarnated from a past piece of writing that they had been in and put in the comic but she was a student and he was the school cook which is weird but thankfully they like barely interact at all and theres no real romance he just like recognizes her and its barely a thing at the end of the show but its still weird
4. mystic pop up bar
big warning for suicide, sexual harrasment (which is framed as being bad and the guy whos harrassing the girl literally gets thrown off a roof)
i havent finished this one yet and thats mainly because im not emotionally ready because this one makes me soooo emotional. if you like found family this is a good one. its about a pop up bar run by a woman whos been tasked with solving the problems of a certain amount of people in order to atone for her crimes in the past before dying, shes able to enter the dreams of people and solve their issues using the information she gets in the dreams. paranormal shenanagins ensue, she acquires a son and a husband and it kills me its so fun and quirky and fun despite handling dark themes and peoples problems. also very sweet the found family murders me
5. kingdom (netflix original)
i literally am not going to be able to watch any other zombie media because kingdom and train to busan are the best pieces of zombie media ive ever seen. warnings for gore and violence and just general horror aspects.
i absolutely love this one its so thrilling and well done, i love the acting and the way that this show looks its absolutely gorgeous. a zombie plague breaks out in joseon period korea where the emperor has died and then was brought back to life by the queen and her father in a ploy to try and keep their family in political power, the crown prince must find answers. a lot more happens and its very dramatic and good i love the characters in this one
cdramas
1. the untamed. if you follow me and you havent watched the untamed im begging you to watch the untamed. literally one of the most beautiful stories ive experienced in my life i am not joking when i say i cried multiple times over it. the main characters are canonically gay in love and have a son together please watch the untamed. handles a lot of dark themes, heres a tw guide
2. the sleuth of the ming dynasty
this is another one i havent finished but its fun so far, very gay, found family, food, and solving murder mysteries during the ming dynasty
3. hikaru no go (also known as qi hun)
havent finished this one, there is some propaganda about hong kong in the first episode but as far as i know thats the only instance of something like that in the show
this ones about the game go and so far its very sweet and fun, local boy awakens a ghost who was a master of the game of go hundreds of years ago and eventually is persuaded to learn how to play go with the aid of the ghost. im really liking this one so far its very cute and i love the characters in it. if youve watched the untamed nie huaisangs actor ji li is in this one!
4. the legend of yunqian
this ones very short and on youtube, all the episodes are about 5 minutes long and its a lesbian time travel fantasy adventure with a happy ending! funny and cute
jdramas
1. cherry magic
please please please watch cherry magic. the premise sounds very much like a weird yaoi kind of thing but trust me on this. trust me. it is so heart warming and sweet and i was so emotional about it and the growth of the main character.
adachi gains the power to read peoples minds on his 30th birthday based off a urban legend that if youre a 30 year old virgin that youll become a wizard. after gaining this power he accidentally finds out that his extremely popular and handsome coworker has a crush on him, and shenanagins ensue along with adachi having blossoming feelings in return. this show was really refreshing in a lot of ways, adachi is a main character who like.. is unsure of himself and insecure in a very kind of realistic way, he closes himself off and is afraid to reach out to people and through the course of the show we see him slowly come out of his shell and realize that hes likeable and lovable and that people want to be around him and its so nice to see. my main complaint about this show is that i dont really like the background couple, but otherwise this is a very sweet and refreshing gay romance that has a happy ending!
some others that i myself havent seen but that ive seen people talk about a lot and that i want to watch eventually:
- the legend of fei (cdrama)
- the wolf (cdrama)
- gaurdian (cdrama, not the kdrama one called goblin)
- healer (kdrama, i did watch some of this one but it was in 2016 and i never finished it so i barely remember any of it but i do remember liking it)
- nobody knows (kdrama)
- its ok to not be ok (kdrama)
sorry this is so long but i hope youll be able to find a drama u enjoy!!

I AM SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF A *MEETING TRYING NOT TO IMPLODE RIGHT NOW. "mildly entertaining" i am amused as all cringlefuck this shits straight up bewitching to me
sorry im writing an ult dirkjake scene right now and "cringlefuck" is refusing to leave my brain anyway
i like your second take on why dirk insists that hal's not sentient because for him to accept that hal's made a better contribution than him is just so fucking miserable isn't it?? like in that case (much like beta dave) HAL isn't perfect either but he's still BETTER than dirk ykwim? like at that point it's purely dirk's fault that he's not enough and we all know what he'd rather do than accept that idea
and dirk's avoidance to negative emotion is very jake-englishian they're so important to each other god god!!!
i wish i could've incorporated roxykisser's classpect post more but i took one look at it and immediately realized if i ever tried that thing would never be fucking published so here's my follow up rant to that:
what i love about ultimate selves is that they tie into the character so inherently in the sense that the character becomes destroyed in the process of trying to merge them into one like dirk strider ceases to be One Dirk Strider hes now The Dirk Strider and if theres anything that ties together all the dirk striders in the universe it'd be the title of prince of heart because that's how deeply classpects are woven into these characters
this is why i think bgd escaped The Merging like he's fused partially with jake—he isn't just a prince of heart anymore but a secret third thing but i dunno it's a very inchoate idea
i also like to think arquiusprite (wherever he may be...) escaped the Merging too for that reason and maybe ult dirk encounters him later god i'd love for dirk to get an epic beatdown in which hal gets so fucking disappointed in him that it momentarily separates him from the merged state of spriteness and verbally annihilates him
finally just based on everything so far i think you'll very much enjoy my later takes on what ult dirk and ult jake would respectively look like in terms of romance and growth and i also look forward to your jake takes as well thank you for this incredible addition have a lovely night
@tipsygnostalgy HELLO HI UH THIS IS AN INCOMPLETE VERSION. i snipped out some bits because im throwing down anxiety in.the ring even posting this. im frankly a little embarrassed i can't give everything tonight even what i have down as okay to upload is not my top form at all, im just really really excitedaaaa i'll probably reblog the lovers post with a complete version eventually, but for now this is the best thanks i can offer for the nigh lethal dose of dopamine you've shot into my skull.
apologies in advance for my verbosity it's chronic
im posting dirk's half first because i definitely talked too much on jake's. it's almost double the length. i think it's partially because ive chewed through dirk so much i can make it through a considerable amount of his sections without dissolving completely. and i'm impatient!
note: my interactions with philosophy are limited to the two month bonanza i spent when i was 14 which i barely remember due to my general memory issues because my philosophy teacher was shit at his job and i took matters into my own hands, and uh. dirkjake! and one character from one other fandom. yeah. i am a nerd who loves breaking shit down, i love information, and i love philosophy nonetheless but i am So unqualified to be doing any of this
entry 1:
can i scream? i'm screaming. out loud. in real life. holy two fucks and a half. what do i even say it's So Good. dirk could excuse his inadequacy with the minute comfort that the brother he idolizes is functionally perfect in a way he could never conceivably live up to be. everything is shattered when he meets a version of him who is on the same footing. Yes. i literally have a post typed up about it.
im copypasting a small segment here but it's so close to exactly what you said im almost unnerved. mostly excited tho i am SHAKING
the most devastating thing to know is that dave is just a guy. dave strider, 16 year old. human and flawed and still enough in ways dirk never could be. what he did for his team his friends the things dirk couldn't, he is made to serve and no matter how hard dirk tries he cannot live up to be the same because this is not his role.
words? words. that's so much many words.
this is not his class. he is doomed to be selfish, his thread is already in the tapestry and he falls right into the path no matter how much he fights it. what can be counted as him indirectly the plot was created at the service/detriment to himself (hal) and what is himself directly aiding his party is in fact orchestrated by other more helpful, more selfless people and he hates it so much.
YES IT'S EXACTLY THAT RIGHT THERE RIGHT RIGHT THERE dirk is so so So aware that he is selfish that he cannot help the people he cares about oh so deeply and the knowledge that dave on his own, after being hurt so much "more" than dirk direct abuse he was able to pull through, he was still enough. shit man !!!!!!!
funnily enough i think dirk might have been able to learned new skills to do with his classpect besides the passive narrative bend it has on everything he does to destroy. this is entirely theory but your classpect and your development with it helps you develop as a person. it's like a muscle if you think about it; the more you use it, the closer you get to its core, the more you learn to bend ithad he tried to use it (resisting the urge to say like dave did because that will stomp on the shattered pieces of my heart) i think he would have gotten a bit more control over his position in the narrative if it makes sense.
ironically, i think learning how to direct the destructice force his classpect gives him might have allowed him to get a hold on said narrative bending, and stop unintentionally wrecking shit. but doing Anything as a prince is the last thing dirk wants.
(god it's so tragic this theory is so tragic without it dirk was always doomed to the inevitable but with it he could have done better in his eyes nevermind that destruction of selves isn't always bad if you know how to direct it, see bgd @ aranea, but it literally requires him to take the path he's trying to hard to fight. you define how your classpect changes you. oh dirk.)
i think a lot about this if you can't tell
FUCK IM GETTING OFF TRACK. STOP OKAY CAN THE THEORIES FUCK.
[insert 2 paragraphs more of me screaming about the katana line hally lieu yeah]
entry 2:
HAL MY FAVOURITE KENTUCKY FRIED FUCKER HELLOOOO HELLO OOHOHOGO
god my old hyperfixation on deep learning models is coming back to bite me in the jungular. delightful slash gen
dirk does love his control mhmm mhmm god im gonna go dig up that picture my friend sent me once one sec
Tumblr media
that's who he wants to be. so badly
he Hates not understanding shit prides himself on being the (im quite sure it's part of how he gauges his use. he has a very utilitarian view on it. being the one to pull the strings thus being useful by virtue of organizing their success. proceeds to eat gcatshit trying)
i think a part of why dirk insists so fucking much that hal is Not him and Not alive could be one of two 2 reasons, beyond the already tangled pumpkin patch of conflict.
1) not taking credit for hal's contributions. the fact that hal has served the team without dirk's direct orders + dirk's objective pride about being the puppetmaster, he wouldn't want this tied to him
i doubt this one honestly, it's incoherently explained on its own because it's really late but also it just there's a lot of holes in the logic here. the second one breaks my heart a little:
2) if he accepts hal to be sentient, he has to accept he has created a new conscious person. he cannot cling to any notion that he did help his friends, he created an intelligent AI and that tool he made in turn was used to aid and guide his friends. he is still in control here. he still helped, he built that bot and it helped.
right?
[cutoff point 2. im rushing. im so sorry ajsjaj]
entry 3:
killing me
"He likes emotion, he likes people, he just wants to be completely perfect when interacting with them so that he’ll never lose them." YES. YES. YES YES YES yes okay yes exactly Yes
this is one of the things i headbutt against in dirk fandom stuff a lot (even borzoi's take once i think correct me if im wrong) it's the fact that i think dirk likes people. he's been alone his whole life yet he delights in dialectics and dialogue, he's socially awkward and introverted but he's not socially averse. i am not gonna let myself run over the hills and far away with this tangent but i am hushdhsj AAAAA
what he doesn't like is feeling inadequate interacting with people. he doesn't like being inadequate in general he reflects on his flaws near constantly and the biting reminder of his alternate selves' sins in the back of his mind doesn't help, but with people he Cares About interacting with them he does not like not knowing what to do, he does not like being unable to navigate these situations. he likes being human and experiencing emotions and connection and he hates the fact that it requires error to the trials, he just wants to be entirely logical while still having a metaphorical right brain totally not a big thing to ask for ahshdhskjrh[explodes]
AHAAAAA SISYPHUS YYYES YES YRS EYSBEYDHHWHEHSHEHD FUCK YES oh man i am much more a theatrical literature person so this is ringing off bells in the wrong direction than intended but im reading reading reading chewing
"upon facing the question of the absurd in the fullest extent, one can either choose to kill themselves or make a ‘reply.’" hogh
two roads: become god, or kill yourself. jesus fuck that's a screwed up twitter thread if ive seen one. and of course he picks the secret third option: Both. absolute DiStri Moment™
fuckitweballkind that's joining my regular vocabulary holy shit your language is amazing
this feels like an extension of dirk's dilemma between subjective experience with objective control; coming to grapple with the unpredictability of his absurdist existence and his solution being to take control of the narrative entirely. i feel like there are a lot more dots i could connect here. i will sleep on this
[addition i feel is important even though it has minimal connection as of right Now:
roxykisser put out something about classpects and the ult self being the literal narrative very recently and how they tie into the narrative and it's That it's that. my take is partly influenced by past fandoms but it has always ruined me that in order to god tier, quite literally, you're killing the person you were before the embrace the narrative role. you the actor are giving up your freedom to the performance, and the closer you get to your classpect the more you embrace the narrative. in return, you gain more flexibility and control in said narrative, more ways to use your classpect. to become the ult self is to become the role. you kill the person, you become the role, but at the cost of your self, your mind may be driven by the consciousness of an amalgamation of every You, but your core is now your role.
im incorporating and altering this with my consumption]
really hope this is like at least mildly entertaining i have no idea what im doing but!!!! I Am So Abnormal About Everything i love this i love you i love love this so Much

I hate doctor 11 but ive never been able to explain why in like words lmao. He feels like such a mary sue character imo and like theres something about his characterisation that was always just really ineffective (like the stuff about fishfingers and custard or whatever it was). Imo i'd love to hear you give top 5 worst things about the 11 era because i rlly just love when it gets torn apart
i hold nothing but a seething contempt and loathing for that man. every time he appeared on screen i felt ready to snap like a riled up chimpanzee in my enclosure. i am frothing at the mouth and overcome with a desire to start flinging heavy objects. this might be incoherent and inconsistent but i started this rewatch in feb 2020 and only finished this week so i got through 11′s episodes last august/september time and i refuse to revisit it to jog my memory or fact check anything i’m saying here because this man does not deserve the space in my mind for that.
the first thing is i can’t fucking STAND the quirky whimsy timey wimey bit he has going on all of the time. i can’t even say this is because this is a kids show and i was a teen and then adult when i first properly watched him but actually!! when i was eleven years old i’d sleep over at a friend’s house most weekends and it always coincided with the airing of a new season 5 episode and i remember we watched the finale with the dumb time hopping to get out of the box prison that was never explained and didn’t make sense and i thought at the time “this is really stupid”. and before that my only other doctor who exposure was watching the david tennant christmas specials with another friend and throughout childhood my only opinion on doctor who was “this is a tv show that is not for me but is one that all the boys i am friends with like so i will put up with it to maintain our friendships” but at least those episodes were both suspenseful and engaging enough to keep me watching all the way through. like who the fuck does an end of the world sci fi plot and approaches it with an “oopsy woopsy i am a funny little alien man who is going to stop you all by making you do a hecking silly” like it’s unneeded and self-parodies an already cheesy show to the point where it becomes unwatchable and makes it impossible to ever take this man seriously.
next thing that downright sucks ass so badly is the stupid fucking overwritten constantly escalating plotlines. like everything from season 5 up until his regeneration at the end of season 7 is meant to be this grand interconnected cosmic plot about how...the doctor trying to bring back his planet will end the universe or something so all the top powers across all of reality tried again and again to stop him from doing that except he doesn’t know what’s going on so he keeps thwarting these people who supposedly mean good?? i mean i sure don’t fucking know what they were trying to say!! like for some reason we never get the doctor suddenly becomes this superdemon that threatens everything so these people (whoever they are) decide to, in sequence: suck him through a time rift to erase him from existence, trap him in a prison and remake a universe without him, take his companion’s baby and turn her into a perfectly trained doctor killer, form two(!!) secret societies to hunt him throughout history that are only stopped by his companion splintering herself across his personal timeline to protect him, and repeatedly cause reality collapsing events because it’s a kinder outcome for the universe than what he will do. this grand and terrible event turns out to be...he spends a few hundred years chilling by a rift that leads to his home planet and protects a few generations of children from monsters which convinces them to give him infinite regeneration power then fuck off back to their pocket universe. and it’s like!! what is the point of anything that happens in this man’s era when everything is always “the darkest moment” or whatever the fuck!! i don’t care!! we never get a compelling reason to believe this bumbling clown of a man could ever be a universal threat!! the whole thing is so dumb i hate it!!!
thing number three i hate is how the eleventh doctor is ALSO characterised as this abrasive egotistic male supergenius to the point where he becomes genuinely indistinguishable from bbc sherlock. genuinely who enjoyed seeing this guy constantly tell people their tiny human minds can’t comprehend what he’s doing and then basically just wave his magic wand to solve whatever problem each episode is facing. 2012 is the year of human sin because this fucking shitsmear character archetype somehow became both a redditor role model AND a tumblr sexyman and it’s like!! nobody is enjoying this stop making this seem cool! him saying timey wimey thing any time he does anything is frustrating and dumb and locks the viewer out of giving a fuck about anything that is happening! smartest man in the room syndrome is a disease and the eleventh doctor is terminal with it. like remember how they established river as an accomplished scientist (when she wasn’t being a child soldier or a time paradox or whatever the fuck) and every time that came up mr doctor eleven man was like “oh this thing is obvious because i’m a genius and you didn’t realise because your brain is tiny so get out of the way and let the grownups think” or that time it turned out amy had been replaced with a slime clone for half the season and the doctor chewed rory (audience surrogate) out for somehow not realising this fact we didn’t know right from the start and like. this served no purpose other than to draw into severe question why the doctor is also this super beloved magical figure implicitly trusted by all children everywhere like. mr steven moffat is totally allergic to writing and solving mysteries in his tv show and fuck you for wanting to figure things out as you go along based on the new evidence you uncover at strategic plot intervals just let this asshole man use magical thinking to reveal he knew the answer all along and you’re a fucking idiot for not also realising this thing which had no basis or precedent anywhere else in the show.
speaking of dumb things let us not forget the absolute shitshow that was minority representation in this era. i’m not even talking about the low hanging fruit of how genuinely unironically sexist amy and clara were written where each episode moffat either seemed to loathe them or was incredibly horny over them and they had no character growth or arc or fucking anything. i’m talking about how fucking shit terrible the incidental representation was. god remember how every single fucking gay person who appeared in this era was written as one incredibly fucking stupid joke and how the women were all either sexy dominatrix, feeble girl in love, or Mother (or all three in some really terrible cases) and i’m not qualified to talk about this but also how incredibly white this era was and how on two separate occasions we had monarchs reimagined as sexy girlbosses with a gun played by black women who the doctor leched over. nothing about any of this was good ESPECIALLY coming off the back of rtd who was surprisingly forward thinking for 2005 and did a really good job of positing travel with the doctor as queer allegory. in comparison moffat gave us THE MOST heterosexual shlock i’ve ever had to endure. amy and rory could have been interesting characters were they not hemmed into this domestic bickering young straight married couple bullshit that was in no way changed or altered by traveling with the doctor except for the quasi incestuous river song reveal that was dumb and bad and stupid.
the last major mega gripe i have with the series is moffat’s fucking jingoistic boner for british military aesthetics. this carried over throughout his entire tenure as showrunner but was super terrible vomit inducing in eleven’s era. the unironic admiration for ww2 britain and winston churchill is downright wretched. are you incapable of telling a second world war story outside of churchill’s london and plucky blitz fighters. shit gives me hives so badly. and then!!! that weird church owned army that features in the future that end up being bad not for the concept of what basically amounts to an imperialistic intergalactic rendition of the fucking crusades but because they’re part of the nonsense go nowhere puzzlebox narrative that says the doctor is a not good man who will do bad things to the universe :(. remember how rtd’s doctor was a freshly traumatised man hot off the war criminal press who time and time again vehemently refuses to engage in military violence, but who tragically inadvertently turns every one of his companions into soldiers in his own personal army, and he has this moment of complete horror at the realisation and it is this which causes the downward spiral that ends in 10′s regeneration. and then how there’s this cringe line about how there’s a force of people who are “the doctor’s army, always ready to fight his battles when he’s not around” or some shit and then it turns out this is actually massive literal military operation and we’re meant to celebrate this. fuck off.
bonus round because this needs to be said but i have never hated anything like i hated that fucking human tardis episode. everything about it induced violent anger in me from the sickening overindulgence of that softgoth dark whimsy helena bonham carter tim burton aesthetic to the bafflingly terrible evil carny stereotype of those junk scavengers to the overblown sudden tragic shipbait romance of human tardis and the doctor. every word out of her mouth was trite shit and the fact that the death of her body was presented as this super emotional dramatic scene despite there being no buy in or incentive to care and the fact that every single person on tumblr in 2012 ate that shit up like it was fucking gourmet. i loathe every single thing about that episode so much.

Hello human💜,
Would you mind recommending me some swoonworthy, light-hearted but not dumb and cringey kdramas, but do not have many cliché drama tropes. I like unique ones.
Your's truly,
R
hello!! of course, you're speaking my language now. I adore a good swoonworthy romance that isn't 2010 era cliche/cringe. i mean every kdrama has its cliche moments but sometimes i enjoy them!! especially if the couple has great chemistry 😂I'm answering this a bit late, I'm so sorry!! college has been kicking my butt a bit lately
some of these are extremely popular and you might've watched them already, if that's the case send me another ask! or you can look through my watchlist on mydramalist in my bio.
we’ve got
the loves of my life:
It’s Okay To Not Be Okay
we know this one, many of us adore it (i am one), its a grand ole time. metal health, dislike to love, found family, personal emotional growth, and some of the best main lead chemistry ever.
While You Were Sleeping
another well loved classic, this graced our eyeballs in 2016 (which I believe to be one of the more superior kdrama release years). its got more dislike to love, some magical realism, one of the better love triangles in drama land, cool careers (i love shows about jobs, this has journalists, prosecutors, and rookie cop) and more precious adorable chemistry between leads.
 Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
Tumblr media
this is my absolute favorite, i adore this. it’s a comfort rewatch for me and i’ve seen it maybe 4?? times by now? and i honestly could watch it again. its set in college (which i love cause for some reason we don't get college set dramas too often) and is so warm hearted, adorable and makes me clutch my chest in feels every time. its also got (can you guess?) more dislike to love! (is it obvious yet that this seems to be a fav trope of mine lmao)
Just Between Lovers
ughhh this one is so angsty and makes me drown in feels. it talks about survivor guilt, trauma, and more personal growth. this one is a bit heavier, not too lighthearted but the romance is so cute and fluffy that you might consider it!
One Spring Night
Tumblr media
i will scream about this drama from the rooftops, ITS SO CUTE. the main leads have the best chemistry, theres an adorable kid, and the show overall has a very airy feel. that airiness however is balanced with heavier topics like societal prejudice, what’s expected of women, abusive relationships (its a side character), and so on. but the romance is so swoonworthy i could cry
When The Camellia Blooms
another kdrama community fav!! and for good reason! its lighthearted, extremely funny and romance is adorable. again, balanced with heavier topics like murder, custody, and the daily struggle of being a woman
The Tale of Nokdu
Tumblr media
I’m not a huge sageuk person, i don't usually like historical stuff or plots that get too political (aka almost every sageuk ever) but tale of nokdu i loved!! its so different and interesting compared to other sageuks, the main lead disguises himself as a woman for certain reasons (and its done respectfully??? we love to see it) and is so so funny and lighthearted. the romance is adorable and the main characters bickering is so fun to watch
Memorials or Into the Ring
so so cute, the main leads chemistry is tippy top notch. the story aspect i didn't necessarily love but the romance??? sign me up again, its so so cute. hilarious main leads, wonderful female friendships, and all around chaotic energy.
I liked them a lot!! just an inch off loving them:
Fight For My Way
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Suspicious Partner
Eulachacha Waikiki (both 1 and 2)
Goblin
Start-up
Touch Your Heart
Tumblr media
Extraordinary You (turns classic cliches on its head)
Tumblr media
When The Weather is Fine
Moment at Eighteen
Tumblr media
I hope you find something you’ll like!! I really really liked all of these and would recommend anyone watch. now that im looking back at my list, i apparently really like shows with long-ass titles 😂😂these are all unique in some aspect or another and are v fun and def have lighthearted/swoonworthy moments

ask meme. what if. patching up. no I still haven’t seen source material
the way i completely forgot about this ask until i wrote like two paragraphs in this and was like oh shit lmao
the source material is getting an hbo series bb you're in luck also ignore anna whatever as tess yes i respect her as an actress yes she is talented in a bunch of things i have not seen but ms annie wersching is the only tess in my heart and also if i have to endure tess being reduced to a powerbitch stereotype i will start foaming at the mouth. but also i have no feelings about this whatsoever <3
WHAT IF: i will pick an important choice or event in my current project and write three sentences (or more?) about if it’d gone done differently
hmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMMMMMm
this is hard because i kind of had a stupid amount of confidence in the decisions i had them make in this and because i have ~a lot of experience~ in flying by the seat of my pants with writing lmaooooo a lot of the time with this ive had some degree of foresight when it comes to certain plot decisions. the only reason i have this in the first place is that with other things ive had kind of sort of plot revelations and then been like "well if i'd set that up three chapters ago it would have a huge impact i think but instead i guess it's just going in this one for a smaller impact" so i think i learned my lesson haha. also because this pairing nowadays has a small and sparse tag i really intentionally put in stuff to make it interesting (maybe the wrong word) to reread. like not Interesting interesting but i wanted there to be certain details that are more relevant on a reread than on an initial read because whenever i read stuff in small tags i tend to read it Multiple Times lmaoooooo and it's like if anyone like me is out there I Will Feed You. I Will Give You Food. you see i have this problem in which im like i dont want to act like i put thought into this because That's Embarrassing and i also dont want to seem like i take this too seriously because That's Embarrassing and also i dont want to act uppity or pompous or something But At The Same Time i do put a lot of thought into certain things and i feel like mentioning that and i dont really want to judge myself for that. it's complicated but also super uncomplicated. where was i going with this
OH right. so most of the plot decisions were made super concretely. like pre breakup arc in the nightmares chapters (which came out so much worse than i intended alkdjksjad;glksjg) when tess and joel talk about ellie Knowing (also legit it is such a trip to me that you dont know the context of that. a trip in a good way) she says we every time and he only ever says i even when she points out that this would affect both of them, and at one point i think he says that tess doesnt understand baseless violence which is 100% untrue, and then there's a bunch of window imagery i put in starting there because im a freak. so like For Once In My Life a lot of this was as planned as it could be. on occasion there's been Plot Revelations that get wedged in (the radio interlude chapter, which was a bit of an inelegant seam between prewritten things that didnt mesh well) but for the most part ive got tits out into every decision. like tess and ellie disagreeing about joel's choice was very planned though i imagine that kind of conversation could be executed many different ways i had my one way and stuck to it. so either way
where was i going with this. did i have a point.
OKAY. let's see. i think one of the big ~emotional beats~ so to speak was the ambush chapter and i think that's the favorite because that's usually where people comment if i remember correctly and initially i wasnt going to go with that tone At All haha. years ago i wrote everyday domestic scenes of mulder and scully from x files and had it all on this blog and it was plotless but largely in the same overarching universe (i say as if it was legit ever That Deep) and after writing this as a oneshot and being like you know? Kind of feel like doing that again. i figured i would just follow the same largely plotless path of legit just domesticity and leave it at that. and i think the first like five chapters are tonally different from the rest because i'd never really intended for it to have plot or really any depth whatsoever. in the end like. How do i say this in a way that wont be interpreted as uppity or something asldkjgalsdgjk like. when i did those mulder scully scenes i was very much a beginner and i think i didnt realize just how inherent that beginner-ness was to the concept itself. which isnt a bad thing! like people had fun with those so far as i remember. bizarrely enough i think people might still read those which. cringe. but you kno!!! but with a few years of distance from that kind of concept i think it was hard for me to Not try something else. especially with this universe in which it's just dense with storytelling opportunity. and also i felt as if the first few chapters were just like super super lighthearted and i wanted some angst factor. which is why in the end the angst factor plot itself is flimsy as fuck. like i did not care WHY they got attacked i just wanted that sweet sweet hurt/comfort cup of tea u feel. and after that i didnt really go for the plot too much But i did edge toward it a lot more. like i mean ultimately this is a romance like it was not intended to be plot heavy ever But it's more plot heavy than it couldve been. had i actually written it as i'd intended from the start i think it wouldve gotten old really fast. like nothing but lighthearted domesticity doesnt make sense in this context. for the first few chapters it doesnt necessarily kill the whole thing imo because like. that's the first few chapters. but after then if there was never any ~deeper thoughts~ i think it wouldve gotten reductive super fast.
hmmm what else. Because i am deciding to talk too much on the internet now.
oh in theory the whole breakup arc couldve been omitted and now in retrospect im like it's hilarious that like the next chapter after they got married i immediately peppered in hints that they would break up lkajsdglaksjgdlkj like wow. That lasted a long time. but like i mean i think with them it fits that they would do something like get married before they even said that they loved each other. like i can see them doing a massive workaround instead of doing a small and simple but vulnerable thing. makes sense 2 me. and like they definitely couldve stuck together in the end but 1 theres interesting storytelling in how maybe joel was too stubborn or maybe they grew apart in certain ways or blah blah blah and 2 I JUST LOVE A GOOD BREAKUP AND THEN RETURNING TO EACH OTHER ARC OKAAAAAAAAAY. legit. favorite trope. if i ever experienced that in real life i would claw my eyes out but in fiction it makes me FERALLLL. and also like i mean i lov these two for their dumb quirks but also like it would be a lil wrong to say there wouldnt be consequences for like. Not communicating haha. also again like the world this game is put in is so full of storytelling opportunities and im like Must Take Them All. like joel is stubborn as hell and shuts down when he's overwhelmed and there is growth in the first game (and in the second too but thats not really shown as much and is more left for the player to fill in the gaps i think) but also i think it would be super easy to regress in that sense and i had fun with putting him in those situations. and it's also super fun to have an additional person for the joel and ellie plots to bounce off of. like joel and ellie are two very stubborn people and having an extra person there to be like You Blithering Idiots has been a good time. im getting sidetracked. like it was fun to answer the question of how these two in a marriage neither of them can fully substantiate would communicate in hard times and the answer i personally found was that they both would end up breaking things. which was fun to write!!!!!!!!! but in theory couldve been prevented. maybe i just cant imagine this a different way haha. like Joel And Tess Learn Healthy Communication Skills Over Time. am i mean for saying that doesnt sound probable aldskjgalskdjgslkgj
OH LMAO THE MARRIAGE PART. that was also a big decision i guess. i wouldnt make it go differently alksdjglasdjg like. i definitely couldve written the context around that many different ways bc again this whole is full of opportunity But a frankly premature wedding just feels right to me. especially with like going from being stuck on survival to being safe for the first time in decades. and then having that sense of safety get boring and wondering why there was that super fast wedding in the first place. cant really imagine it going differently
there is later unposted stuff that could def have gone many different ways and that i tried to make go different ways but that would not be right to talk about akldsjaslkgdjsg so.
this got too long sorry <3

plus, in my opinion, I feel like ever since the hiatus, every beauyasha interaction has been... idk, moments like carrying beau; and yasha taking her on a maiden flight... feels like rushing to the climax to something that is absent space, something that wasn't set up quite as well as it should have been, it doesn't feel earned in the sense that "transferrable" isn't really what feels "the non-comparable, nothing like beau's ever felt before" loving your best friend to loving a completely different woman in almost every aspect should feel like. it feels like an insult to both jes and yasha as characters, as if they are just... interchangeable? which is Not A Good Look To Have.
as a lesbian beau is often seen as this predatory by fandom which just Wants Her Out Of The Way so they can pair off Jes with either of the other two men who are romantically interested in her and use beauyasha even as a background/underdeveloped relationship to Pair Off The Lesbians so neither of them are a threat to their m/f pairing. I would even argue that Yasha and Jester are emotionally closer than Beau and Yasha are, and Yasha catching a falling Jes and taking her on a maiden flight or Yasha carrying an exhausted Jes would've felt more satisfying, a better payoff because there is depth to the relationship already built there through character interactions.. which isn't just fanon-interpretation of their relationship but closeness that exists in acts of love both jes and yasha perform for each other, see it as platonic or romantic, however you will.
whereas, with the comments of "she is sparkly and shiny" and "easy to lust", I imagine some thought was put into how beau would move on, since I speculate the cast would have had a conversation w which romance to advance w and ashley and marisha decided to go forward w beauyasha which is completely fine and all good, but the closere to beaujes could have been, "I had never experienced a strong platonic relationship w women before... so it was hard for me to distinguish where that line was. I still love jes, I do. but... maybe not in the way I thought I did. love can come in all forms and the idea that my feelings have a chance to be reciprocated actually make me want to pursue yasha, but this doesn't mean I love jes any less. I just love her differently. and will always want what's best for her, she's my best friend. I still care tons for her, even if I initially let myself into thinking the love I have for her is... not the same kind of love... as what I feel for yasha." that way I feel it wouldn't have felt as invalidating as it did with the "easy to lust" comment? as a brown wlw south-east asian woc, I have to admit, I have quite an attachment to beau, since beau is also a brown wlw with south-east asian features, the comment plays into harmful stereotypes of not only how lesbians are portrayed as predatory in media, but also how not only brown women but woc in general are caricaturized as more sexual and predatory too... so. it's like taking double damage on a personal level.
and I admit while the dialogue I suggested, still pulls away from beaujester, I also feel like its less... disrespectful? to both yasha and jes? and I won't send any of the cast any kind of commentary on it (and no beaujes shipper has to my knowledge, we're just sad on our own blogs and no self-respecting celebrity is gonna have a Tumblr account dude) bc parasocialness can exist as a two-way street and I refuse to submit to that kind of relationship w the content creators of a show that I watch + the show exists to be criticized/analysed in fandom spaces.
don't we as wlw deserve better? don't we deserve a growing budding relationship between beau and yasha where calling each other "girlfriends" feels... earned more than just playing it off as a joke that I am not even sure was in character? shouldn't beau talk to yasha about trying to get to know her? comment on her harp-playing skills or even talk about how the Hag scene impacted her, or even how Yasha was the first one who walked unflinchingly into the hut at the merest suggestion that Beau might leave. How Yasha has been having these dreams and I feel like there is a lot they can talk about, connect on in a emotional level explicitly instead of constantly passing off the awkwardness they have as "🤷y'know... disaster lesbians🤷". like... sit down. have a conversation in a while. connect.
show, not tell. I argue that the show has felt predominantly different since the hiatus bc suddenly overnight beau's feelings for jes transferred onto yasha the moment they landed on rumblecusp and I just feel like as wlw in media we shouldn't settle for so little as "transferable feelings". wlw rep is not interchangeable. we shouldn't be "grateful" for the scraps we get but ask content creators, who pride themselves on being lgbtq allies, to do better. I think we deserve more, I believe we deserve a better fleshed out romance arc (hey, there's still time) but like I said, all those big events of yasha carrying beau, taking her on a maiden flight... feels it it should be a climax to something.... to absent space, something that isn't sown yet, that isn't really quite there yet. which is part of the reason its... underwhelming. there's a narrative gap there, and using the excuse of "d&d is improv!!! can't expect it all to make sense!!!" undermines how intricately d&d/ttrpgs is a strong method of storytelling.
and beauyashas, this isn't something petty as ship-wars. you also deserves better.
I’m honestly a little baffled as to why WLW Beauyasha shippers aren’t also upset over the handling of Beau’s crush on Jester. I get that they’re probably excited that their ship is looking much more likely to happen, but...
Don’t you love Beau and care about her feelings? Do you really want Beau to just “turn off” her previously established deep feelings without actually resolving them so that she can be with someone else? Doesn’t the “transferable feelings” comment make Beauyasha feel a bit cheap and forced? Aren’t you, as WLW, uncomfortable with a straight woman having her lesbian character brush off her “incomparable” love for Jester as lust?
I love Beaujester, but I will happily enjoy watching Beau and Yasha form the first PC gay relationship in CR—IF it gets the same care and buildup as Beaujester. I want to see Beau drunkenly ramble off a list of things she loves about Yasha with a cheesy line like being her beacon, not struggle to come up with anything more than “there’s something there.”
I want to see Beau and Yasha together because they develop a deep relationship, not just to pair the lesbians. I would think people who actually prefer their relationship to Beaujester would want that too, but instead there’s this pointless ship war going on.
We should really be standing in solidarity of wanting to see well-handled lesbian romance, regardless of which characters end up together. Let’s focus our criticisms on how the cast treat these WLW relationships in comparison to their straight ones, instead of on each other being more invested in different romance tropes.
(Which, by the way, is not the same thing as attacking the cast. No one to my knowledge has actually harassed Marisha over this, and people are allowed to analyze and criticize within fandom spaces—that’s what they’re for.)
We’re used to fighting over table scraps for gay rep. Having another ship block yours usually means that a straight ship is blocking a gay one, so we’re used to being on the defensive. But that’s not what’s happening here. Beau is a lesbian, and no one can take that away. We all love our buff blue girls, so let’s support each other in that love, yeah?
((PS. bashter ftw))

Could I get a Year Ahead reading and/or a Heart Compass reading? Thank you so much!! (I really enjoy your blog btw!! <3 )
here you go darl, I just did the year ahead reading cause it’s quite a long one but if you still want the heart compass just send me another message!
Tumblr media
Okay so, each card here represents a month of 2021.
January: Knight of Pentacles
This knight represents efficiency, hard work and responsibility. He’s the least kinetic of all the knights, his horse almost at a standstill but he’s thinking about what’s ahead, carefully considering the coin he holds. He is committed to his task and he’s approaching his path with care. January will be about setting goals and starting on the path towards them. They may feel far off or had to achieve but the knight of pentacles is patient and methodical in his approach so don’t worry if you don’t seem to be making progress straight away. This knights is seen as responsible, reliable and committed to his work so it may be that you find yourself with a few extra responsibilities either in relation to work or at home, but know that you are up to the task.
February: 3 of Pentacles
Another pentacle card. This may be a indication that a situation at work or a work related project will be occupying your time during the beginning of the year. The 3 of Pentacles is about teamwork, collaboration and building. February will be a good month to connect with others. It may be that a group project will be undertaken but this card is generally a symbol of honest and supportive teamwork whether that be business partnerships, friendships, or relationships amongst family members. Whatever the case my be, this is a good time to seek advice from others, especially those with more experience than you who may be able to help you move towards accomplishing your goals. But be wary of conflicts of ego, disorganisation and other aspects that may cause a lack of teamwork.
March: 3 of Swords
I’m not going to lie to you, this is one of the most unhappy cards in the deck. This is the second 3 card you’ve had in a row so February and March may be highly social months for you as the 3s generally refer to group communication. The 3 of Swords is about heartbreak and suffering though. March may bring challenges with it. It could be a separation or falling out with someone close to you, it could be that your workplace creates new or unexpected challenges that take a toll, it could be a significant block in the path towards your goals. Being a 3 card it might also indicate interference from a third party that causes you trouble (particularly in the case of conflict within a relationship). Whatever it is, it likely won’t be easy to overcome. March will be a month of pain and healing. Be gentle with yourself and take care of yourself and remember that more often than not suffering and heartache will lead to better things, even if it takes a little time.
April: 8 of Swords
Another Sword card. The Swords are the suit that represents the mind so it seems that during this period, your focus will be aimed internally and whatever situation arises during March will continue to be on your mind through April as well. The 8 of swords is about feeling trapped or imprisoned, however, escape is possible. The woman on the card is bound and blind folded and surrounded by swords but her feet are free and she is able to move. All she has to do is master her fear and anxiety and take a step forward. Whatever pain you are dealing with this month is being prolonged by dwelling on it constantly. April will be about letting go of whatever is holding you back and moving forward. It may not be easy - the woman can move but she’s still surrounded by danger and she’s not likely to leave without a few cuts and scrapes - but it is possible. Only you can let go of the fear and the sadness and only you can make yourself move.
May: The Lovers
Our first major arcana! Obviously The Lovers card can be a strong indication of a positive romantic situation, whether it’s with an existing partner or someone you meet in the first few months of the year. But The Lovers is more than just romance, it can also represent overcoming trials. Whatever setbacks you faced in March and April are coming to an end. May will be about refocusing on what you want and how to achieve it. The Lovers card represents attraction which may of course be an indication of attraction to another person in a romantic or sexual sense. If you already have a partner at this stage of the year it’s a sign of strengthening that connection and if you’re single it may be a good time to put yourself out there and try to meet someone. Attraction can also indicate a good time in relation to finances or career so if you’re thinking of switching jobs or applying for a promotion, May could be the time to look into that.
June: The Tower
The Tower often scares people. And with good reason. It’s a symbol of sudden upheaval, broken pride, disasters. Even just the imagery of the card is kinda scary - a tower on fire, people falling from it. But sudden upheaval can be good, even if it’s stressful, it can lead to better things. And The Tower doesn’t end with the ruins, it’s rebuilt with a stronger foundation. June may bring a big change with it, something unexpected, or it may just be a time of chaos. The change may be related to the situation that’s been happening since March, and June will be a time to rebuild and resettle yourself. Either way, don’t fall into the trap of resisting change too much. You can delay the inevitable but it will happen eventually.
July: Ace of Wands
The aces are cards of beginnings and potential, and the ace of wands specifically is about creation, willpower, creativity and progress. July is going to be a fruitful month for you. The chaos of the Tower is quieting, and you’re feeling ready to move forward from whatever issues occurred in the first half of the year. The creativity that is referenced in this card could be a creative project you’re working on, or it could be creativity in a more cosmic sense that indicates a time to find your voice or develop your own vision. It’s certainly a time to just go for it though, whatever it is. Whereas the Knight of Pentacles was about carefully considering your steps, the ace of wands is about action and movement. You’ve thought things through, you’ve considered your options, you may have made adjustments depending on what happened during the year, now it the time to actively and energetically make progress. You’re being handed a wand which traditionally in magic are used to focus your power. It’s up to you how you use that power though. Focus it towards achieving your goals and success will be likely.
I will warn you however, that the ace of wands can sometimes be related to the creation of life as well as birth and families so if that’s not a goal of yours or something you want at this point and you are sleeping with anyone, I highly recommend you use protection lmao.
August: 2 of Wands
Another wands card. The suit of wands is associated with fire and thus energy. This part of the year is going to be about being driven and active in working towards your goals. Theres a restlessness to this card though. The 2 of Wands depicts a lord looking out over his lands and alternately looking at the globe he holds in his hands. What he has achieved so far isn’t enough. You’ve made steps towards getting what you want but you still have some work to do. It may be that something is holding you back during August or something is making you hesitate but the 2 of wands is about taking risks and leaving your comfort zone for something new. August will be a time to continue with your plans, continue on your path.
September: 5 of Swords
The 5 of Swords is a card of ambition. It may indicate conflict but doesn’t always. Certainly the conflict isn’t as drastic as earlier cards we’ve seen. It can also be a sign of sneakiness or trickery. With that in mind, in September you may have to deal with someone working against you or undermining you even if it’s subtly. However, good intent can be sneaky or tricksy and it may in fact be referring to your own need to stand up for yourself or an approach you take in trying to reach your goals. Either way, ambition is key during September. Stay hungry for what you wish to achieve and keep working towards it.
October: The Moon
The Moon is an interesting card. On one hand, it can represent intuition, listening to yourself and trusting yourself to correctly read a situation. One the other it can be about the unknown, darkness, deception or illusions. If the 5 of Swords was in fact referring to someone working against you this may be a continuation of that situation. However, it may also be a warning not to create danger or enemies where there are none. Be wary but don’t assume the worst of everyone. In October you may be embarking into unknown territory - new responsibilities at work or something new within a relationship or social circle.
November: Queen of Cups
You started the year as a knight, just setting out on his journey, careful and methodical and now, towards the end of it, you’re appearing as a Queen. That shows growth and progress being made. The Queen of cups rules the emotional realm and yet her cup his closed off with a lid. She’s not one to spill her emotions anywhere and may come off a little guarded but she is compassionate and kind and empathetic to others. She represents calm and comfort. November is going to be a much calmer month that previous ones, though emotions may run high. The Queen of Cups also symbolises success and happiness and actions helping a dream become real. If the goal you set at the beginning of the year (or in July with the ace of wands) was a short term goal it may be that November will the month when your success becomes clear. Or, if it was a more long-term goal that you expect to take a few years to achieve (or even if it’s just taking longer than you’d hoped because of setbacks), November should give you something tangible to mark your progress.
December: 10 of Wands
There is accomplishment in the 10 of wands but also responsibility and burden. If your goal was achieved in November this may indicate a rise in responsibility or business that follows. Otherwise it’s just saying that there is still work to be done. December is a time to celebrate what you have achieved but also to recognise that there is more that can be done. It’s also a time to examine the load you carry and sort through it. Re-shoulder what you need to but don’t be afraid to let go of things that no longer serve you to make your load easier in the next year.
Tumblr media
I drew 4 oracle cards as a kind of energetic overview of your coming year.
From the Destiny Cards deck is the word Commitment. This was definitely reflected in the Knight of Pentacles but it’s a theme that will carry throughout your year. You need to commit to your plans, commit to your goals, in order to get what you want. It may also be related to a committed relationship, whether its a deeper commitment of one that exists or committing to someone new. Or perhaps there is a cause or obligation you will commit to during the course of the year.
From the Elemental Oracle we have Pressure: Transformation. This is the 26th card in the deck to the numbers 26 or 8 may be important to you during the year. Pressure can be positive or negative depending on the circumstances and your point of view. And from the tarot cards drawn it is likely you will feel some pressure and stress this year but this card is about using that pressure as a shaping force and letting it transform you into someone stronger.
From the Believe In Your Own Magic deck we have Confidence - It comes with time and practice. This is card number 23 so 23 or 5 may be meaningful numbers (or perhaps 2 is since it appeared in both cards). There may be times during the year where you feel powerless or feel as if you’re losing your confidence. This card is telling you that its okay to feel like that. Confidence isn’t innate, it’s learned. It takes time and practice to feel confident about yourself or to trust your decisions. Give yourself the space to unlearn any toxic thoughts that may be hindering you and seek out situations or people that make you feel more confident about your choices.
And finally, From the Making Magic deck we have the sigil for Healing. This definitely ties into a few of the tarot cards. Parts of this year are going to be heavily focused on healing and recovery. It could be related to mind, body or soul or a mix of all three.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, I pulled a handful of charms and dropped them over the cards to see if we could get any clarification or further details. They’re probably a bit hard to see but I’ll go through them.
On January we have the words Star and Of so this may be and indication of a spotlight of sorts being on you, perhaps you’ll make an impression as someone particularly knowledgeable about something. The star within tarot is a symbol of hope, so it could be a hope of reaching your goal or achieving something. It could also be saying Start of.... since this is the beginning of the year and as I said before, the knight of pentacles is related to starting on the path towards your goals. Beside them we have my old school badge which features the words fortiter et suaviter which is latin for strength and gentleness. These may be traits you should hold onto or keep in mind as you approach the year ahead. It may also indicate that the goals you set or the path you start on will be related to school/uni or learning.
On Feb we have a badge with a happy ice cream. I see this as an indication of a positive time, something sweet, perhaps a treat of some sort or something unexpectedly good coming from this teamwork.
Over March we have the word you and a badge that says Woo! The badge was a little unexpected considering the general unhappy feeling of the card but I think it’s really just indicating that while the situation may hurt, it will be for the best in the long run. Between this card and the next we have a shell. Shells often represent the unconscious mind which is interesting considering these are both swords cards. I think it suggests that the issues that begin in march are what will be in your thoughts the most in April. It could also indicate growing a strong defence mechanism or coping strategy to get through this time. Seashells are also obviously linked to the sea so there may be a connection to the beach or the ocean in some way.
Also on April we have the words Star and Love as well as a little blue “candy” heart that says Heart Eyes. This may indicate that the situation which leads to your fear or feelings of being trapped is related to romance in some way. As I said before the star represents hope so it may have been that you were hopeful of a relationship moving in a particular way or hopeful of connecting with someone and by it not going the way you wanted, you’ve been left feeling anxious or worried or trapped.
On May we have Internally Screaming. To me this is a good thing, particularly since between this card and the next is my charm representing The Sun. The sun in tarot is straight positive vibes. So whatever situation is indicated in this card is a good one. It might also be that you approach something calmly from the outside but inside you’re screaming about how wild or weird or unexpected it is.
Dropping down to July we have the lock. Potential. You don’t know what been locked away but you know something is there.
Connecting Jan to Aug we have the scissors. Interestingly both these cards are about moving forward but with different energies. The scissors represent cutting - cutting through red tape, cutting unnecessary thoughts or unhelpful influences from your life, cutting away the bullshit to reveal the heart of what you want. On Aug we also have the owl. A symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Owls are birds which can fly and thus also represent freedom or taking flight. Very fitting for the 2 of wands.
On Sep we have the word Give which could indicate a need to give something or that someone will give you something - a helping hand, encouragement, a literal object. The camera icon makes me think of the phrase “take a picture, it’ll last longer”. It’s a reminder to stop every now and then and take in the moment. It could also represent your ability to decide how a moment or time in your life will be remembered. Your perspective of a situation will change how you remember that time when you look back months or years later. The triangle also appears on this card. This may indicate that three people or parties are involved in the situation. But, it’s an equilateral triangle which indicates balance in your life and peace of mind. Now is not a time to make rash decisions but look at things from multiple perspectives.
On Oct we have the word Like which would be indicating that you’ll like the outcome of this situation or something that occurs this month. There’s another charm there which I should have laid down before I took the photo but it’s a little figurine of the pokemon oddish. To me oddish represents change and transformation because pokemon evolve but there’s a choice here too. Oddish can either evolve into vileplume or bellossom depending on which stone it uses. You have a choice here or two ways to view things. This message is I think enhanced by the Moon card itself which features two canines and two towers.
Over Nov we have the words Happy and Good. I think those are pretty self explanatory and definitely fit with the happiness of the queen of cups. We also have a book which indicates knowledge and learning.
Finally, over the Dec card, we have a badge that says Stand Up and Take Action/Make Poverty History. This may be an indication that during December you’ll have a chance to stand up for yourself, voice an opinion. It may also relate to the “burden” indicated in the 10 of wands. It may feel heavy and cumbersome and hard to carry but it’s worth the work.

What are your top 5 recs for Bakudeku fics?
okay first of all anon fucking kiss me rn ive been wanting to do some bakudeku fic recs for FUCKING AGES lets have sex
second of all sorry if this is late my phone doesnt like giving me notifs for asks ://
alriiight onto the fic recs idk if u wanted it to b ranked but these will just b in very vague order. also these recs will all be fairly popular fics so sorry if you’ve already read em.
first would be bluebird by etherealbeing. it was the first bakudeku longfic i ever read n im still biased towards it to this day. i love it so much, it’s a wrong number au and the humour is exactly what i love, great emotional parts too, i absolutely adore it. good if you want something fairly lighthearted
secondly theres the way you used to do by edema_ruh. one of the longest bakudeku fics so far at 570,000 words with a sequel in the works to boot. it might seem a bit much (because it is) but imo it’s well worth the length. deku turns into a ghost that only kacchan can see (edit: not permanently dont worry) and lots of angst ensues. it’s the slowest slow burn ive ever read, so if you’re impatient with romance it might frustrate you a bit, but i looooove slow burn so i adored this one. development was wonderful, katsuki’s growth was painstakingly real, just phenomenal all around. please try to give it a shot even if the word count is daunting.
theres also the absolute truth by glon_morski its been a while since i read this one so i don’t remember much, basically katsuki is kidnapped by villains and forcibly made to admit the horrible things he did and said to deku as a child. big on the guilt thing so its good if u like that, however please bear in mind that it is sort of unrequited love so if you need a conclusive getting-together in a fic in order to feel satisfied then skip this one bc they do not do that in this. very angsty please heed the tags for this one (and the above one too tbh)
2645 miles by mynameis152 i was a bit iffy on at first, the age difference kinda put me off even if it wasnt that much and i didnt like how they fell in love basically in the space of a few days (i like bakudeku for the ten years of slow burn alright) but honestly this fic was just great. its a roadtrip au with a heavy dose of Action and darkish themes (because katsuki and eijirou r kinda on the run from the police lmao) and it doesnt rly play to bakudekus canon strengths as a ship since its such a different au but its just a great story nonetheless.
ending on a lighthearted one theres what’s your type by sapphicflower! pro heroes kacchan and deku go on a gameshow for hero partners to see how well they know each other, thats the main premise, and it ends in the lovely sappy romantic realisations and its ur typical idiots to lovers its classic pro hero bakudeku its Theyve Been In Love Forever And Only Just Realised, Your Honour. i loved it, hopefully you will too.
and thats five! you didnt really give any specific parameters so i just thought of some favourites off the top of my head! if u ever wanna talk about bakudeku u can shoot me a dm or send more asks im always happy to talk about them!!

Ok so we talk about cliches that we like but you know a cliche I hate? Love triangles. Rarely do I ever see them done well and they're usually just shoehorned in for some artificial drama instead of actually being creative. Like who's the mc gonna pick? The person they've spent all this time growing close with and developing a bond of mutual character growth or this dude who just showed up like an hour ago?
god love triangles are such a mess of a trope because like I FEEL....IT CAN BE USED FOR GOOD like one of my favourite anime when i was younger was School Rumble so the comedy potential of love triangles (and other polygons) is there but then you have late ninties early 2000s drama shoujo manga love triangles where its just like damn.............please god you each have two hands just date eachother together
also the specific example you mentioned, it is truly the worst.... i dont see it often outside of young adult paranormal romance novels i read in middle school (this is probably because 98% of what i read is shoujo manga from 10-20 years ago hjfdgfdshdfsm) but I hated it so bad....brown hair white girl already was in love with white boy #1 WHO is this white boy #2 and WHY should i care......i cant tell them apart theyre both BLONDE and have names like JOSH or JASON or whatever..........that last bit might be why i struggled a little with young adult books as a kid fjdsnbvdsskds
I do think theres a lot of potential with stuff like love triangles and like multiple people in love with the same person, that sorta situation, a while ago I listened to the Film Reroll podcast where they played a dnd game with the movie Aladdin and I genuinely think that the roll-to-not-fall-in-love mechanic they had going on created one of the most interesting love polygon I’ve seen in the past 5 years and i KNOW how I sound right now im so sorry its just its about the intricacies!!! the web of unrequited love............ anyway I think theres a lot of fun and potential with love triangle situations but I think a big problem with media with love triangles is they focus so aggressively on the dilemma of “oooh who will the main character choooose” (especially in things where it’s obvious who the main character will choose) when it could be so much more interesting exploring the emotions of the characters involved like characters moving on or falling in and out of love between eachother....amicable breakups and rejections.....ones that are specifically NOT amicable....i think there is INTEREST and CREATIVITY to be had narratively qwq even the melodrama can be fun sometimes.................. alas tho so many love triangles are like you said, shoehorned in with little exploration
going off of that tho, with certain things like otome games and really any video game with romance elements, because of the inherent personal-ness of the medium, like even if you dont self insert you still feel like You Are Doing The Game, like even if you dont identify or see yourself in Link, when you play a zelda game you tend to say “I cleared that dungeon” rather than “Link cleared that dungeon”, yknow? So like with video games specifically because of it’s inherent encouragement of self-insertion I do think love triangles, even well written ones, may need to be handled a little more delicately
like I really like the love rival formula in Ikemen Sengoku, how every boy has another boy in his route who’s varying degrees of in love with the main character (with varying degrees of success at being well written too, Mitsuhide as a love rival is famously pretty good, I love Sasuke and Mitsunari, Yoshimoto was good but I personally felt Ranmaru would have been more thematically satisfying, Nobunaga was a drive-by love rival and its the funniest thing in the world to me), but I also know that the love rival story beat makes a lot of people feel real bad and thats not neccessarily what everyone wants in their fun viddy game, I know thats a thing in other otome games and other games with romance in general, people feeling like theyre cheating on the other love interests or they feel like they’re breaking another love interest’s heart, that kinda thing
oh man and recently I found out that the original version of Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town had a mechanic where after a while, characters who you could marry would get married to other people if they werent married to you, and like some people like it cause it makes it feel like the world’s more alive, it actually made me interested in playing the original because I love the concept of a game mechanic where I Steal Yo Girl for comedic reasons BUT also lots of people didnt care for the mechanic, from what i can tell it made some folks feel super bad like they’re stealing someones gf and like, thats completely understandable honestly, video games have such a unique relationship with “action” and “who” is doing said “action” between the player and the player character, they’ve got this connection emotionally we can’t really sever easily so video games I definitely think should be especially cautious about how love triangles and love rivalry is handled
im sorry i wrote an essay with a bajillion sidetracks.......I just have lots of thoughts all the time and I think its fun to discuss these things and ur ask was good,,,,... its lots of fun to talk about tropes, ones you like, ones you hate, ones you want to see done better njgkfddjgfksafdsa gomennnnn
