Theres two ways to anwer this. While I live on Sodor now, I was born in the United States.

In refernce to when I lived in America - Its Flying Scotsman

the Gresley A1/A3 is just glorious, and perhaps one of, if not the greatest tale in preservation? First to 100 (offically), Flagship on the LNER for a time (my favorite British Railway), Lonest non-stop run for a steam engine. Traveled the Globe. Yes Scotsman is the most common choice, but with good reason.

In reference to Sodor (and Britian as a whole)- I'm cheat somewhat and pick a pair from America. Hear me out. Iowa Interstate No. 6988 and No.7081

Yes these Locomotives are preserved in America, but they are China Railways QJ class 2-10-2s (One of my all time favorite locomotive classes) . After working 20 years in China, they were bought for a preservation line in America, entering service in 2006. No.6988 was been Americanized in 2011, while 7081 has only had the modifications nessary to allow her to legally run on American railroads .Both are currently undergoing/awaiting overhaul. They gained another american sister in 2008 when No.7040 (later renumber to 2008) was puchased by another preservation line and unquiely modified,

fascinated by both rin's role in the momo pig au (manipulating her is always funny because she is so easily played if you know what you're doing. but do they? i'd argue that if anyone at least kind of figured some stuff out it'd be them...) and by everything about the rei and tobi au. the way kabuto is being used there + the themes of one person being unable to meaningfully change an entire entrtched system are sooooo compelling. also isobu liking icha icha is SUCH an idea im a big fan. if im interpreting the posts correctly kakashi also shows up at some point as sukea? how is team minato's relationship in that au? how is her unsuccessful suicide attempt being perceived? is she as interested in changing things or is that mostly obito's thing? how IS obito coping? he seems more hinged than in the canon timeline, but i'd imagine theres still a LOT going on in his head. do the akatsuki (og group) play into the au at all? it's all just very interesting to me your aus are always so fun.

q: is sukea there? a: it's kakashi's go-to mask! everyone is wearing a literal mask (except kakashi's face is finally somewhat bare)!

q: how is team minato doing? a: minato is dead. kakashi thinks everyone is dead. rin & obito had a horrible reunion. rin thought she was dead and kamui was a really weird afterlife. obito has one (1) hinge and she almost died in front of him. they are doing better now. there will be a team reunion eventually.

q: what do obito and rin want to do now? a1: live! like people! a2: obito is having flashes of guilt over "abandoning" kakashi, but kakashi at least has the village (or so it seems). obito was weaponized by zetsu/hashirama cells, that whole put-sanbi-into-this-girl thing was some kind of set-up, and now rin is describing how the cursed seal on her heart felt and he is pretty sure madara didn't have his best interests in mind and he is spiralling and nobody is safe except the girl who was to be sacrificed again and again a3: obito wants to become a farmer a4: rin remembers the fear and the compulsion to return to konoha and the desperation to get rid of the parasite on her mind (her heart). she has a tailed beast in her, her chakra control is shot so she can't even do her medic job, and if she returns to konoha (flashbacks at the very thought) and isobu promises not to burst out they might just use her as a guided bomb too. or there might be some political angle to "give" her to kiri. she doesn't know but obito is here and he went through hell and he is still smiling at her. a5: rin isn't opposed to farming

q: what is kakashi's reaction to chidoriing rin? a1: the usual reaction to traumatic-moment-imprinted-into-your-brain-through-a-magical-eye :) a2: he is pretty sure she is dead. when he woke up, there was general carnage (obito mokuton'd all over those guys) but no body. "sometimes i can still hear obito and rin," he admits, "like right now, they are arguing over a vegetable garden. i guess the pure lands have those." cut to kamui dimension: there is in fact a passionate discussion over nutrients in mokuton-grown plants. rin is winning

q: who gave isobu icha icha? a1: rin says it's obito's fault because he bought it a2: obito says he's not the one who used it to teach the turtle to read, so don't you dare blame him. isobu is glad to have friends who don't see him as just "a battle monster"; even if his main part is stuck in a seal at the moment. and now he knows even more about the world and human relationships!

i really like how varied my interests & hobbies are rn. i think ive struck a perfect balance in my life.

first are all my creative hobbies. i draw (a lot. of things), write, code, and play music. but ive also actually been consuming stuff too, which i usually dont do. ive watched a few movies and a few shows in the last few months. this is so weird for me, i watch things like once a year no exaggeration. this combo of both consuming & creating myself has given me So much more inspiration than usual - theres so many things i want to try, and do try.

next are my academic hobbies. im learning norwegian and swahili. im b1 in norwegian and a1 in swahili, so im in VERY different places in my learning and so theres always something i want to do! some days i want to read complex texts in norwegian and other days i want to expand my small vocabulary in swahili and its just fun. i also read a lot of nonfiction books - rn im reading one about underground nazi camps - and articles online. i watch copious amounts of educational youtube videos (this is so silly to say. but i like to watch the, usually professors, who know what theyre talking about like patrick kelly or premodernist). i love to learn i will never stop learning.

thenn i also have my interests - things i may or may not do things about. im into hetalia rn, sometimes i draw art for it but sometimes i just look at others stuff or reread the manga. im into genshin too and play that a few times a week. which is really weird because im usually incapable of being into 2 fandom interests at once. then my interest in furries, dinosaurs and reptiles are chugging along as usual.... i get to go online and see dozens of pictures of fursuits and speculative paleo art and pictures of snakes and i love that <3 <3 <3

idk i feel really well balanced right now. im always into 50000 things typically, but usually not this Perfectly and I just want to relish in the peace of my life right now. i feel good. i feel really good.

I guess my opinion on shipping is that, it depends on how the ship is interpritated in a way.

Example being 2x5 and 51x3, YEHA I LOVE THESE SHIPS ITS SO GOIGUGHFHDH But then theres the *age gaps* (so sorry to the people who feel offended, I mean no offence)

"Oh they're above 18 theres no worrying!" Basically what I meant to say was that. Hiro's basis (being a JNR Class D51) was built from 1936-1945 while Henry's basis (most likely being the same as Gordon's basis, a LNER Class A1 prototype) was (most likely) made from 19??-1922

Now lets say Hiro was made in 1936 and Henry in 1918. Now depending on how you interpritate their ages, HENRY IS 106 YEARS OLD AS OF 2024 WHILE HIRO'S AGE IS 88 YEARS OLD IN 2024

And its clear on what age gap Edward and James have canonically (/lh) since Edward is characterised in a more fatherly way while James is your "IM THE HOTSHOT, GAY STYLE" (/pos) SO UH YEAH.

And.. Those are big age gaps.. But yeah I like the ship I once was a Hiro x Henry shipper and 2x5 is a nice ship as well!

It just isn't much canon in my au/headcanons IN THE MOST RESPECTFUL WAY CAUSE YKNOW THOSE ARE TWO WONDERFUL SHIPS SO YEAH NO OFFENSE

essentially, yeah.

theres this standard called cefr that describes how well you know a language.

it goes from a1, meaning you know nothing, you've just started learning this language, all the way to c2, which means you might as well be a local cuz you know the language inside and out.

fun fact. if you're a moron like me, you can pay 200 fucking euros for a piece of shit construction paper to tell you you're alright at a language you've been speaking essentially your entire life. and the best part is you're only officially recognized as 'alright' FOR TWO YEARS

I actually am so confused is it me is it my environment? What do I need to change or do¿ It has to be me Im the only constant granted Im pretty sheltered since Ive lived in probably three different environments while mostly staying locked in my room (my fault) but still 0 for three?? Interesting. Forever grateful for my A1’s tho ~ just drowning without them. And the boyf dont get me started. He’s perfect. maybe too perfect? but thats again my fault I probably shoudnt crave the codependency. But it cant be my fault that i want to live in his skin. for French I really like the podcast/YouTube channel "inner French" they speak about interesting topics and explain phrases and vocab when it's very complicated. Recently Spotify has added subtitles for the podcast which slays massively. Even if your French is really good their explanations of esp the internal French politics are often really good and accessible because they explain everything for foreigners! I think the earlier episodes are simpler, and it gets more complex later.

If you're into horror I can also recommend the show Marianne. It's really scary tho. And the French is difficult I had some trouble with it. Titane is also a really good French horror film and they speak less so your French doesn't need to be as good.

I've been recommend to watch foot 2 rue a French animated kids show that's fully on YouTube and supposed to be good but I will admit I've not done that. But I think watching something animated or translated is a good choice for a beginner cause the language is often easier.

Learners books also slay. I got a learners version of Le Petit Prince graded for B1/B2 recently and it's really good at anticipating where I'll lack the vocab!

Theres a lot of French content on YouTube also. Just type in anything you're interested in and you will find it in French!

I also do not have any A1/A2 resources because i learned French in school I'm sorry.

I have a bunch of Russian resources that I used because I started out as solely self-learning. So a large part in my absolute beginner phase I spent listening to podcasts, specifically, these: understanding spoken Russian which is great for just getting a feel for the language while also learning a bit of grammar and this one for getting grammar and vocab explained in a very down to earth kind of way without any types of big words you need to know.

Besides these I essentially learned all the Russian grammar I know on Youtube. Especially from this channel. Daria is very cool and also has several podcasts under the same name.

This one has helped me with specific questions about little grammar things, so might also be useful.

Nastya has this year begun doing a Learn Russian in a Year thing where she uploads every day a thirty minute lesson. It's a bit slow for me personally having already learned a lot and just generally me being impatient but it can definitely help with vocab.

He also has good videos and also some free stuff on his website iirc.

For TV shows I unfortunately can't recommend a lot for beginners. What you can do though is watch episodes like Peppa the Pig on Youtube in English and in Russian/French to compare and learn or only in your TL as they're obviously at a low level. What I do highly recommend as a show though is слуга народу for Russian and Lupin for French.

Also, if you're into audiobooks, try typing children audiobooks into Youtube or try listening to the Russian/French version of Harry Potter (that's what I'm doing rn actually).

If you're looking for a book and willing to spend some money I recommend this book with Russian short fiction for beginners. I just finished it and I thought it was very fun with vocab lists and questions for the stories at the end. The same author has also books for higher levels.

Unfortunately, as I learned almost all of French in classes I only have one channel I actually use to recommend, which is this one. You'll find some of my posts where I used this channel as my source.
