It's still hitting me that TOH is ending tomorrow

TOH is an anomaly for me where I've been watching it and actually in the fandom since it first aired. Normally I get into shows either right before or after they already finished, or I drop off of it long before it finishes because I no longer enjoyed the story, and I play more games than I do watch new shows and with a video game art/fic/theories comes out as quickly as people beat it so there isn't the weekly anticipation with it. So it's different to have been here enjoying the show since it first aired and still enjoying it by the time it ends, and it's sad that it got cut the way it did but the crew did all they could with it.

Anyway I hope everyone enjoys the finale tomorrow and gets as much of their bingo cards filled as possible

excuse if this is a weird question or if youve answered this before, but . you have so much worldbuilding in your au. theres TONS of characters it feels like and im just so curious.. how do you keep track of all of it??? it looks so overwhelming but so freaking cool at the same time

To put it simply, there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes that you don't see.

I am also insane.

Well, this actually isn't the biggest project I've ever done. My very first fanfic, which was a mashup of Disney, Marvel, Monster High, Ever After High, Dreamworks, and paranormal lore, was way more complicated and had a cast of over three hundred named characters, and those were just the original characters. That was when I was ten. You could say I know my way around complicated lore and massive casts. I don't think I can write without having those things, really. I wouldn't know what to do with a small cast or simple worldbuilding.

My worldbuilding comes from being a massive nerd. Disney and Marvel are massive properties, they have so much for me to work with and Disney did the work for me in giving me an excuse to combine everything. I looked into the world of Disney properties, DC properties, Dreamworks properties, and the properties of other media I enjoy that I decided to include, and then I just combined them in a way I thought made sense. I also took inspiration from Earth 27, a really great fanwork that also combines a bunch of different fandoms and has a massive cast of characters, in some things I've done.

As for how I keep track of it, that's complicated. The politics of the world are common sense to me, since the politics in my work reflect my perception of the real world and how I think things should be improves. And then I know the changes I would make to the properties I've included, I know the things I think need fixed and that I chose to fix them. And then I have my lists. Gods, my lists. I have so many lists of fandoms, of characters, of crews, of kingdoms, of gods, of powers, of worldbuilding. You can see some of them in Isle of Darkness AU info, but those aren't even close to all of them. And then there's my tagging system. I do my best to character tag extensively, both for your guys' benefit and for me to make finding things on my blog easier.

Keep in mind that I'm not perfect at keeping track of things. There are things I've messed up that you guys probably haven't noticed or if you have, haven't pointed out to me. Continuity errors. That's to be expected with something as massive as what I'm doing. I do try to fix things when I notice them and do try to keep everything in order, but I mess up. A lot.

Also, this isn't my first Descendants AU. My original Descendants AU, written when I was like, fifteen, was me watching the movies and adding in one character, Riah, changing some events in minor ways, and that was it. I started simple. But by the time I got to the third book in that series, I realized that I wanted to worldbuild more. That third book veers massively into original work area because I wanted to add more of the supernatural, which led to the shedim plot. I realized that I had fun with that plot, so I started rewriting the series to include more fun stuff. That didn't last, because I wanted to include so much new stuff that the rewrite would be unrecognizable. Thus, Isle of Darkness was born. There was a long planning period, and then there's been a massive amount of things added because I'm doing an esoteric work. The Endless plot? Added that maybe halfway through chapter four. Maverick didn't exist at all until chapter two, and I didn't make the decision to make her a major character until chapter two of Isle of Darkness. The rebellion? Originally wasn't a plotline, I was going to go for something closer to what the movies did. Jasmine helping? Wasn't on the drawing board at all until recently. The supernatural properties? You have no idea how majorly those have changed as I've written this because I originally wasn't going to include angels, most demon and djinn stuff, Roman deities, Norse gods, Aztec gods, or Lovecraftian horror at all. Heck, Jay wasn't even originally a djinn! I wrote the first chapter and then read this excellent fic where Jay was a djinn, realized it made sense, and added it to chapter two. My worldbuilding looks complex but man, most of it is because my work is esoteric. I add stuff in as I go along and come up with a way to make it work. Most of this wasn't planned when I wrote chapter 1.

If you want advice or to talk through ideas I'm always up to answering more asks or private messaging. I'm sure you have wonderful ideas. Also, I don't know if you're comparing what you're doing to what I am, but if you are, don't. I am insane. My grandfather, a New York Times bestselling author, looks at my stuff and goes "Good lord." I have been creating stories for nearly twenty years- I started when I was three, that was when I created my first story about a team of superhero misfit animals. I have a lot of writing and storytelling experience, and I have a lot of experience in things so insane that most professional writers would fear me. These things are what make my particular story as it is told by me, a unique person as all people are, work. These things are not going to work for most people, just like small casts and simple worldbuilding aren't going to work for me. Every writer has their own individual strengths and their own individual weaknesses. Play to your strengths, not mine.

what do you think if theres blogs that are not only deeply obsessing with finding out ateez members exact fs but they also discussing their potential body parts. i’m not really on that side of tumblr or social media so i can’t really say much about it. i have clear boundaries. im fine with certain readings about ateez’s fs but i wouldn’t do more readings than i have online right now. we already know more than enough. i keep getting a crazy amount of asks in my inbox of people trying to fit especially san’s fs aspects. i’m deleting all of them because none of those people reading my stuff and also myself will be their fs. some people really need to touch some grass. when i see certain physical traits in a reading i point them out, however i focus on personality only. what’s bothering me is how almost everyone on here in my inbox assumes that the members are straight. making their fs a girl at all times. we don’t know their sexuality and it’s quite frankly none of our business. we don’t know if their straight or part of the lgbtq+ community. this is why i keep my readings gender neutral because we don’t know shit.

now in general i don’t want to spread any negativity because life itself is already a big struggle for most of us. i want my blog to be a place where people could just entertain themselves for a bit and. so i won’t say anything about other readers because i honestly just can’t. like i said, im not on that side of tumblr. i get your point but you have to remember you’re telling me this, im a kpop (well just ateez) tarot reader myself and i’ve done reading about their fs too so 🤷‍♀️🤣 like i said, i have my boundaries with readings, won’t do any sexual readings and i don’t focus on looks. being someone who was crazily sexualized since being a child, i really hate this side of any fandom. there’s too many obsessions going on. you wanna know what happened when i saw the most recent pool pics of the members, especially san and woo? as a gym girly i was like “woah i really need to know their routine so i can shape my body like theirs” i can just admire them. viewers here are a little too delulu and have a hard time sticking to reality and form an own opinion it feels like. and I’m sure some readers feed into that. it’s giving you a ton of likes and if that’s their main purpose for posting i guess i get it. that doesn’t mean i’m okay with that but i know many people need validation like that. whenever there’s people coming up and officially date like twice’s jihyo for example i always feel really warm around my heart. gives me the feeling they can still have a bit of a normal life.

i don’t really have anything else to say and only repeat myself. i don’t know if i’m the right person to talk to about that, i do readings and did fs readings like what you just complaint about, but i have boundaries and know what’s reality. none of us will be with any of them, ever and viewers should stop honestly believing “omg XYs fs is like this and that, i’m just like that it has to be me they have to do more detailed readings so i can make it fit for myself”.

i sort of fundamentally understand thats not true. because the reason my art isnt liked much at all is because theres just an oversaturation of content (fanart) because its thousands of people making art for a shared interest, and so theres people whove been doing what im doing for long mucher, much better, much quicker, and more interestingly than me. i aint going to get much engagement because my art is low quality repeat of years old content, and people already have their favorite artists and fics that have tread this ground, theyre not going to give a shit if i make it again because im not that artist who effected them first, so im always going to be a low barrel smuckers artist churning out content for myself in a cave and maybe like a handful of people will throw me a chance but i know deep down im never going to be good enough, because im lazy and not skilled and not as good at envoking emotion or intrigue like those artists who do have the followers and stuff

@lycheestew sorry it took me three and a half months to answer this you sent it to me right around the time i finished my composition writeup and i was like 'good god i can not spend another two seconds thinking about art right now ill answer this later' and then well i just kept not doing it

but anyway. heres uhhh some stuff that was formative/that i am presently into.

Ever since I was in middle school I have been OBSESSED with tracy j. butler's work, she does the webcomic lackadaisy cats and everything she draws is just masterful. Her fully polished paintings are beautiful but I'm choosing to show some of her pencil sketches here because... well... just look at them. like holy shit. I think you could probably trace my love of drawing more stylized proportions with a disproportionate amount of detail on the clothing to her stuff. she also just does magnificent character work and i have a print of her expression tutorial that i kept hanging right by my bed to look at for years.

i was also, as you all know, incredibly incredibly deep into homestuck fandom for the majority of my Learning to Draw years so there were a few artists who were big during peak homestuck posting era that were very formative for me.

in particular i was really into @xamag-homestuck's stuff because i just found the way she stylized characters super pleasing. i spent a bunch of time trying to emulate that.

there was also someone who went by putoshop, i don't know what their current socials are if any but the old blog's gone, and i can specifically site their art as being the thing that got me to start trying lineless stuff

i also have loved loved loved everything @ggdgart has ever done and in particular their use of color in cucumber quest imprinted on me a ton and is something i have drawn a lot of inspiration from over the years. on top of that they have a wonderful sense of fashion and their character designs are just great. cucumber quest rules.

i also was a kid who was really into western cartoons and didn't start watching anime with any regularity until i was in college so a lot of those meant a lot to me. a lot of my early drawing was done trying to copy/trace avatar the last airbender screenshots and while i think it definitely got me started i honestly feel like it had less of a long-lasting impact on the way my art looks than other stuff that i didn't even watch a ton of. i was never super deep into either show as media but i always absolutely loved the aesthetics happening in samurai jack and my life as a teenage robot. they both had that excellent geometric midcentury vibe. more recently in comparison to those two, i also feel in love with the background style in gravity falls and would say that was pretty influential.

right now as for present inspiration i'm absolutely obsessed with everything that deb jj lee does because, well. once again i find really the only adequate thing to say is 'holy shit'

@yxamilover420 it doesn’t really matter what’s being written; it’s the fact that out of the top 100 ao3 ships, there are very few that involve any women at all, especially f/f ships. It’s not inherently misogynistic to write more about men, but women’s lack of existence in fandom proves that there are many people who don’t consider them interesting characters at all, which /is/ misogynistic.

i think it sheds more on how most media use 90% men. the female characters are so often used just as a fan service slave, or barely even important to the plot. Us fic writers dont *have* women to write about. I love writing about women and I love having female characters but theres so FEW in any media that arent just...a fucking accessory to the male main character that its hard to write about them because of their lack of...everything. so ive decided to give my two cents on the identities of the humans of undertale/deltarune. even if most of the fandom is dead, this still has to be addressed.

first of all, let me make it clear that frisk, chara, and kris all CANONICALLY use they/them pronouns. in chara’s case, it also uses it/its pronouns along with they/them. dont try and argue with me about what pronouns can be used for them when it’s made perfectly clear in their respective games. it’s canon: frisk and kris use they/them, and chara uses it/its.

now, just because the humans dont use typical binary pronouns (he/him or she/her), that necessarily mean they’re all nonbinary. yes, a lot of nonbinary people use they/them, but not all of them do. remember, PRONOUNS DO NOT EQUAL GENDER. just because someone is nonbinary doesnt mean they use they/them. it also goes the other way. someone who uses they/them pronouns isnt necessarily nonbinary. this goes for frisk, chara, and kris.

as far as i know, toby fox never confirmed any of the humans’ genders. regardless, frisk, kris, and chara’s pronouns are non-disputable. no matter what you headcanon the humans as, you MUST use their canon pronouns. disregarding their pronouns is erasure of they/them and it/its representation, and its just rude. its not that hard to use someone’s pronouns. we’re not asking much at all.

and before someone brings up the “they’re supposed to be characters the player projects onto, so their genders are up to the player!!11!1!” arguement, let me say this. first of all, there’s plenty of proof that frisk, chara, and kris are their own people. theres other posts that explain this in more detail, so i wont go into it. secondly, what about other “blank slate” protagonists with canon genders. there’s tons of games with silent protagonists meant for the player to project their feelings onto, like link in the zelda games. you’re able to name link whatever you want to, yet no one seems to argue about link’s pronouns. if frisk, kris, or chara had only used he/him or she/her pronouns in the game, no one would be arguing against that.

it sucks that one of the few times a video game protagonist uses they/them pronouns canonically, everyone seems to ignore it, continuing to use whatever pronouns they see fit. name one piece of media as big as undertale that has a main character use they/them pronouns. go on. im actually curious if there are any. point is, there’s a huge piece of media with main characters who use they/them pronouns, yet so many people decide to ignore it and misgender them.

tl;dr: frisk and kris use they/them. chara uses they/it. stop misgendering them and stop using the wrong pronouns. its not hard. also pronouns dont equal gender.

1. OP of that ask was clearly never in the Homestuck Fandom because it's actually still thriving. Zines, several Video Games, a very active Roleplay Community, etcetera. Lizardlicks (a major Homestuck creator) still runs a yearly zine that gets hundreds to thousands of submissions. JJust because you don't see it in your personal circles doesn't mean it isn't still there.

2. also, ironically enough: homestuck actually had better greek mythos refs in it than lore olympus ever did. but comparing homestuck to lore olympus is like comparing the hindenburg disaster to a gender reveal party that started a forest fire. please note, blog owner, that just because they're both on fire doesn't mean they're both a blimp. i would recc homestuck but its fucking long and the current property owners are absolutely awful. hussie no longer owns it. a bunch of confirmed predators do.

3. say what you want about homestuck's many, many many problems ... but there's a reason the fandom was huge and notorious. entire CONVENTIONS spawned from homestuck. the fanbase crashed several websites in terms of sheer viewership THIS YEAR ALONE. homestuck was a fucking massive cultural phenomenon with so many layers you had to be fully immersed to even catch half of them. lore olympus fucking wishes it had what homestuck's trashfire achieved.

4. HS isn't a cartoon but it was a HUGE webcomic back in the day, esp here on tumblr. Basically everyone knww about it and the character designs were very well known (esp the trolls) and it had a huge fandom with a ton of content. HS then branched out to media deals like video games, merch, physical books, and a production company, but it got too big too fast and burned out. I'd suggest watching Sarah Z's video on it, because there are a lot of aspects to it comic/fandom wise that LO has now.

5. okay so, as a homestuck fan: comparing ANYTHING to homestuck is pretty disingenuous. it was long and disjointed and EXTREMELY text/meta heavy, a little like undertale, but it was also super racist and homophobic at points. (the fans tend to ignore this part/rewrite it, homestuck is basically the grandpappy of death-of-the-author) but like ... one of them is a webcomic longer than war and peace with a toxic fandom, the other is a softcore 50 shades ripoff. they're bad for VERY different reasons.

ok i really wanna dive into this xicheng gymnast au ive got going on because its self-idulgent a really cool idea and ive been really interested in gymnastics recently (little angst bc im a weak bitch)
