yeah, now you get the nuance. the thing about DAV is when it's taken at face value and acknowledged as a soft reboot, there's a lot to enjoy in it. but when taken as a direct continuation of the series, it loses a lot of the flavour and personality of the setting from previous games. it's pretty much exactly what they did with the jump from the mass effect trilogy to mass effect: andromeda, tbh.

it's like going back to a restaurant you loved as a kid and finding they completely renovated it and changed most of the menu, but the food's still pretty good. like i'm having a good time, but this is DEFINITELY a different place.

veilguard has a lot to offer, and i enjoy playing it and analyzing, same as i do (most) of the other games, but it's a distinct Other. like, if you're craving pokemon, you can more or less pick up any pokemon game and get your itch scratched. if you're craving DAO, (in my experience) you can't pick up inquisition OR veilguard. the series has evolved and changed as time has gone on, and veilguard sticks out as the largest departure (though not one that was unforeshadowed), and for some people that's going to make it Too Different to enjoy as a dragon age game.

I will say, and this is not a dig at friends/mutuals who do like it just to be clear. But my personal enjoyment of Veilguard has lessened since backplaying the other games tbh.

•speaking if kreyòl since where they grew up there isnt a lot of haitians, therefore nobody to translate what curlys saying to pony, for years pony just accepted that fact but as adults, pony asked curly wtf he was saying and curly just tells him!! no bullshit and some of the things were actually rlly sweet!!

•at some point, ponys realized that he doesnt have that many photos w curly, maybe like 3 from when they were younger, so when he gets his hand on a camera he makes sure to take like at least 10!! he wants to leave behind proof that they were together, no matter how it ends

•when someone has blue eyes, ponys realized that hes usually scared of them to some degree (tim, darry, angela) but w curly hes never rlly felt that way (all the time at least), hes found that so funny

•these r some touch starved FREAKS, i dont think yall understand that, for curly its more general but for pony its in a more romantical sense, but they r always touching each other (pause) like always, its more rare for them not to b

•they make so many bets w each other w the small money they have, but they just end up spending that money on the LOSER anyways, so TECHNICALLY theres no losing bets w these two but bc the other gets bragging rights THATS the real losing bit

•curly would totally b carrying pony if they played video games together, ponys shit at em, and curlys not GREAT at em typically but any time he can flex on pony and shiw off he’ll take it

•maybe this isnt 100% sweet, but im telling uuuuu curly wouldve totally been on ponys side that night, theyre both emotionally not mature so ofc they dont grasp whats rlly at hand and probably woulda got into deeper shit, but them sticking together regardless is very sweet to think about

•curly doesnt graduate from hs, not rlly a shocker, BUTTTT pony gives him the graduation ring!!! later down the line curly gets his ged w ponys help and they give him a new ring!!! curly wears both of em now, 3 if u wanna throw in a wedding ring

•ponys drawings r more serious and realistic while curlys is more cartoony and goofy, and that was also johnnys way of drawing, so in ponys sketchbook u can clearly tell who drew what especially bc ponys drawings take up the whole page and johnny/curlys r kinda just off to the side, theyre small but so silly and pony loves looking at them!!!

•when johnny died the pages pony drew on felt empty but then he got closer to curly and let him draw in the book a bit and it has that light again!! maybe not the same one, but its different and its them!!! new era if u will

my fem soukoku headcannons because i am the only one who is right!!(lies- but i do want to argue some headcannons i have so lets goo)

dazai having short hair durring pm and then growing it out once shes free. 1 to represent her distance from her past but also to show as a disconnect from the mafia(like has it at more inch below sholders than usual chin). pluss because i have my i want healthy realtionships with things headcannons it could also be a thing she can take care of sometimes to self care a lil. forced self care. you will be ok. gun to your head you have no choise. last 2 arguments for this point are 1 the pm design i really like for dazai has short hair-(ty ty kokoasci) but lastly the growth could represent her growth as a person. being good takes time ans lot effort and having that as physical metaphore could be neat. mabey only so long because she has cut it again when struggling but keeps trying. idk! think the metaphors with long hair could be more funky~

yee mabey karaoke at some point a lil, but i head cannon they would still be arcade mostly girls. i dont exactly understand why karaoke or shoping over arcades- like why change? its a good show of character with them being directly competative. unless they shoplifting videogames i dont exactly wanna hear- idk idk girls can just. like games. thats normal

chuuya!!! i dont have designs for 16-18 for her yet but i still have design notess. so fem chuuya to me has a side shave. i would have gone full masc with the cut but it felt like she would have mid length hair to play around with to me? chuuya like fashion and its the same character so why not have same passion with fem design. also did it and shirted side most hair gose on for fem chuuya to better distinguish one from the other.

also! to me fem chuuya wears pants- its most useful, dont have to have any hassle when fighting or riding her bike. just all in all pants make more sence with how she would live. she also wears minimal make up, just enough so she herself can have fun with it. dazai also wears make up but only a lipstick given to her by oda. its a sorta pale rose color and transfers onto everything. kunikida is this close to killing her for that.

From my emotions/feelings post, this was gonna be the one I used for Roo, but because of the lighting it looks like his mouth is open and not him just showing his teeth in frustration (which was the intent), so I changed it to be closed

I think you can instantly see something is off with Kyneva's eyes... 😭😭 The lighting made her eyelashes look weird so I had to adjust the lighting to be more central (lots of lighting issues with these panels...)

As an introduction of the "story" name for Roo and Leo, I was gonna do a post (which is why I learned to make text in blender) where Roo talks about the significance of the word "Hiraeth" in his life, which is that uhhh he learned Hiraeth from Leo lmao. But now he feels "Hiraeth" for Leo essentially. I still like the idea but for some reason I just haven't vibed with the scene and just haven't been motivated to go back and make that scene now esp. since I've introduced the story name now

🌹 What’s the first genuine fight Rook got in with their love interest about? How was it resolved?

hakim and neve fight a decent amount, their main big early one (at the cusp of their relationship like. being one lmao) was about hakim not being upfront about the fact that he grew up in tevinter as a slave before being a raider + lord of fortune. (i think its kinda like, how the dragons/crows are harsher on you because youre supposed to look out for your people and you left to go help the other. he's not a shadow dragon but it's like, something super important about his life he didn't tell Anyone until the slip up with taash and then on top of that that retroactive feeling of betrayal cuz its like, you of all people then should know what the venatori rising + losing shadow dragons would mean... it's layered.). it kind of fizzles out a bit on its own though cuz thats how hakim and neve's fights usually go, i think? they get to the point they both are yelling or something, one of them realizes what theyre doing or says something stupid and the tension falls apart. theyre both just not great at being upfrot about their feelings so they gotta yell a bit and move on. (they dont usually get like super nasty/personal/etc its just. High Feelings that burn out quick)

hakim and lucanis don't really get into many fights until after the endgame i think bc the stakes finally arent world ending enough that they can let whatever they wanna fight about be an issue. i think. either its about illario or after an encounter with caterina. i think hakim gets super frustrated with the way lucanis can be with her and hes tried to be understanding about it but its like. he's not had any functional/longterm relationships before and seeing someone he cares about struggle w the circumstances of all lucanis' family + crow shit really gets to him. and considering hakim's whole like, live freely by your choices mentality, he just doesnt really get a lot of it. so i think either they argue about some shit lucanis didnt speak up on to caterina more than once despite hakim knowing how he feels, orrr theres also just the whole. mess of hakim having previously had a thing with illario. that ones complicated cuz hakim does Not like illario and thinks hes a piece of shit and lucanis doesnt exactly have a jealous streak but i just feeeeeeel like. whenever it is they finally have a big fight post-endgame some of the illario stuff comes out too on both ends.

i think neve intervenes and talks to them both individually. they both have to take a few days to cool off and then feel really bad about everything and apologize a ton. (probably lucanis goes to bring him food as a peace offering just as hakim is coming to bring him some cute small gift like smth for his knitting or an apron or smth wyvern themed.) this is not the last time this happens ofc but its not very frequent at all.

in general ig all corners of the relationship are rly good at empathizing with the other but neve and hakim will do it like mid-fight and then lose momentum but lucanis and hakim both get blinders on a bit and it takes a couple days to set in and sort things out

🌷If Rook needed to get away from their responsibilities for a moment, where would they go? Where is their safe space outside the Lighthouse?

drew a little smth for this, but hakim likes being on the coast, somewhere he can watch the ships take off from the docks. sometimes he'll find a spot on a rooftop watching the docks in treviso or dock town in minrathous, but there's a lot of little things there that don't quite hit the same as being back in rivain... there's a sweet spot of quiet and busy the air is + the sea smells a certain way. so if he's got access to an eluvian, he'll make his way to the rivain coast (preferably the southern coast or even an island bc thats what he actually prefers but he takes what he can get.)

usually its taash or harding who finds them there first when he needs to get away

the sound that plays when you clear a textbox is the spongebob footstep sound and youll never unhear that now

i love the fuck out of this game. the vibes are literally, not figuratively, everything i couldve ever wanted from a jet set radio successor. a lot of people get caught up in naganuma's music, but jsr had way more variety. the original had rob fucking zombie and future had that yoko ono song about cake or whatever. i feel like they did a excellent job keeping a cohesive vibe while still including a wider variety of songs. characterizing the gangs through their mixtapes is such a fun idea and it was done so well

the gameplay is perfect too, like every little bit is fine-tuned to be exactly what it should be. walking feels like walking and skateboarding feels like skateboarding, the way you turn feels noticeably different but in a lateral way that the game is built to accommodate

level design is phenomenal. built from the ground-up for your combo game without feeling like its forcing you onto a single route. manuals were the perfect addition so you dont feel trapped in what the game provides, and lets you get creative with a levels ingredients.

I dig the dream levels and how they twist the formula. levels are normally pretty open arenas, but these are just linear platforming challenges. it's really cool to see what these physics and moves let you do in a different environment. they're super fun for the plot too, I love the bit where red is like "I can't keep the ladder steady, I'm up here with you". no spoilers but I think it ties in super well to the backstory of the character and shines a light on their thought process - you can't get support from someone if they're on the same level as you because they're too worried about keeping themselves steady.

i love how they did achievements for this game. the only story-related achievement is for beating the final boss, and its totally possible for that to be the first one you unlock. it feels good when youve actually gotta work for the achievements, and it adds so much to the endgame. i had so much fun experimenting with the best place to do the longest manual, going back through all the stages for the pictures of the penguin guy, and just playing around for... the, uh... oh christ those are some high scores. welp, problem for the post game.

not to mention all the collectables you can get! this is the perfect amount of side content, i always get excited when i see a pickup in the distance but i never felt bogged down by the need to collect everything. and slowing down to examine the level and look around for everything is a great way to shake up how you usually play the game without feeling like youre doing something that isnt accounted for design-wise.

also, fucking thank you for the maps, and smart move that you can only get em after the main story beat in that spot. it's a shame they don't show the collectables too, cuz finding the last 2-3 is a total pain without a guide, but I'm just glad there's some mercy in finding the graffiti spots. that one in mataan is a bastard, you know the one

the game's pretty easy, i dont think there was ever a point where i lost and had to retry something, with oooooone exception. the cops are all pretty annoying, especially the turret, but not in a way that makes the game unplayable if you have heat. there are certain platforming sections that gave me trouble, like that one on top of the signpost in varsum hill, and... probably another one im forgetting. its hard to hold on to stuff i struggle with, because its just so fun to do fucking anything in this game. moving back into position and trying a jump again is just part of it, yknow?

but that exception, damn. theres one boss fight that fucked me up. it was the first time i actually died in this game. and the second, third, fifth. heres a hint: youve gotta deflect the projectiles. dont worry, you didnt miss anything, you cant reflect any other projectiles (i dont think there even are any) so there isnt some tutorial you missed. it may seem like youre supposed to get close to the machine and spray it like every other fight in the game and youre just struggling with the hitbox or something, but no youre doing the wrong thing. it may also also seem like the reflected projectiles are designed to miss because they keep just barely avoiding his head, but there youre just doing the right thing the wrong way and need to aim better. not with your camera, but by changing the angle of your player character. it may also also also seem like youre meant to use the deflected projectiles as a chance to stun him and close the gap between the two of you, because since he jumps across the map whenever you get near him, there is going to be a gap. this is also one of team reptile's clever tricks, as the stun is so short you need to dodge the projectiles to get in close (but not too close!) and only then start to reflect them. wow, this is inexplicably misleading for a game thats been really tightly designed until now. you think since i get texts all the time like "dont forget to earn points by doing tricks!" someone could communicate the brand new mechanic to me at some point

another thing with this game and communicating mechanics, nobody explains the secret things that all the different ride styles can do, so thisll be your spinny tip of the day: skateboards can balance on fire hydrants and do a trick to unscrew them and ride them up; bikes can stand in front of those garage doors with bike symbols to open them; and if you manual with the skates you can break glass. yeah i only figured out the bike one on my own. i get this is going for that good ol days vibe where there was just cool hidden shit the game doesnt tell you about, and too its credit you only need to know these if you want 100%, but i found them pretty unintuitive. like, i had my board out and fucked around with a hydrant at one point, and i didnt stumble on the secret, just because theres nothing that flags to me to consider jumping on it. this is obtuse, but not as mood-ruining as the boss fight.

also, this isnt really a complaint, i think im just confused. there are tons of spots that are designed like hidden loading screens? theyre usually transitions between parts of the map, like between the entrance and the wide-open parts of the mall. im not sure why though, because it seems like the game doesnt need them? like theres one in pyramid island separating the lower and upper parts, but... you can fall from the higher part to the lower part without a stutter. theyre both clearly loaded all times youre in the area, and the game isnt shy about loading the levels when you move from one spot to the other. is it just to stop combos from going too long? that seems strange in a game thats like, about combos. again its not a big deal at all i just dont really get it?

oh, i should talk about the plot. no spoilers, but im super into stories about the psychology of the characters, shit like repressed memories and identity. if you didn't know, I'm actually working to become a counselling psychologist, so it's really cool to see how games tackle really mental-based narratives. it's like being a plumber and appreciating the manhole design. the central theme is roots, as in where you come from and how it effects you, and they did a pretty cool job exploring how that would be handled in a sci-fi setting.

the story does a great job of having a protagonist thats important but doesnt feel shoved into the world. a lot of stories have to establish a status quo and then introduce how the protagonist is fucking with it. here, the status quo is already shaken up cuz the streets used to be between the big three, but now theres only one left. the protagonist is born from this distruption and has to work backwards to try and get out of it, all while still embracing the world around him. it really helps players get acclimated without making it feel like a hand-holding isekai

and of course you know im gonna dig the anti-cop through line. i like how there are focal characters within the force to show that while its corrupt on a systemic level, there are still individuals inside that system that arent immoral. and once they conflict with the corruption, their choices are to abandon their morals and assimilate (which is why one of those characters disappear from the narrative, they were faced with the realization but discarded it to become assimilated into the general mass of the police) or to abandon their position and fight against the corruption (the other character doing so to help our heroes survive the oppressive force).

oh, and i also dig how they specifically draw attention to how police think. the chief states that he sees all crime as bad because of the slippery slope fallacy, saying that citizens witnessing that the laws dont matter would encourage more reprehensible criminal activity like homicide or piracy. i can see how someone raised in a system that values order and obedience could develop such a black-and-white thought process, and we see how its propagated through the whole police. i also love how, even without saying it out loud, theres a point to be made about how the police are so overfunded that theyre running out of shit to justify it. yeah sic the swat team on those teenagers, who gives a fuck if youre just treated like an inevitability of society and have more money than god. theyre also so everpresent that theres little pods where i think the fuckers just wait until their inescapable silencer system picks up the slightest hint of disobedience. saying the quiet part quietly, but still saying it.

uhh what else. i also appreciate that we see what a cyberhead looks like before we learn why red is exceptional. thats just good plothole-covering, cuz if that didnt happen, i totally wouldve been like "wait are they all like that?". im trying to be vague but its the thing in the mall chapter

alright lets talk about what youre here for: what it was like to 100% this thing. my process was this: normal casual playthrough of the story, getting pickups i saw along the way and making a point to seek out all the optional characters. the second thing is to go back and tag all the graffiti spots, which you should get out of the way so you dont have to worry about the police later and so you have the rep to unlock all the oldhead-gates. after that, go back through the boroughs a third time and pick up all the pickups i missed. you should use a guide for this, those fuckers are really well hidden. by all means look around first, like i said earlier its fun to take it slow, but it devolves into "where the fuck is the last thing" pretty quickly. if its not fun, why bother, yknow? turn it from a scavenger hunt to geocaching. the fourth step is doing the other gangs' score attack challenges to unlock them as playable. I thought it'd be super hard, but theyre tough but doable if you keep a single combo through the whole thing and do the boost trick. the only thing is if you drop your combo, you gotta march your ass back to the challenger to restart, or get your phone out and wait the timer out, there's no quick restart. it's not THAT big of a deal, but I shouldn't be taking my phone out in the middle of your video game, just saying

then there's the high-score steam achievements. this is bar none the hardest part of the game. unlocking futurism in mataan just takes 5mil points, which you can do in a few minutes. the achievement asks for 16mil, more than triple that. you have unlimited time, that's still a pretty bad leap. the best way to get your score up is to up your multiplier with unique billboards and rail corners, but that only works once per combo. even if you exhaust most of a stage, you're still gonna be pretty short, with the multiplier only getting you to a couple mil. so, what do you do when you have no time limit? find a rail that loops, rubber band your joystick to the side, and go to bed.

...that's what I thought at least. I tried this in mataan and I bottomed out at about 6mil after going grocery shopping. and I gotta walk a kilometer and a half to the store and back, so it was like... a little over an hour. that doesnt sound that impressive but still i didnt wanna just wait. I feel too self-conscious about running up a power bill I split with my roommate to do it overnight, so let's try plan b and just... do it. and yeah, its still the hardest part of the game, but... its still very doable. i dropped my combo like two or three times, but i ended up with 20 million before i even realized it when i went for varsum hill, which is wayyy overshooting. the only problem area was pyramid island, and thats just because i had to march my ass back to the top when i dropped my combo. i totally overblew how much of a pain these would be

i think thats it! with a single 15-minute-or-however-long-that-fight-took exception, and disregarding the post-game optional character missions having no quick restarts, this game is fantastic from beginning to end. i know it sounds like that fight was a huge detraction, and yeah ive got problems with it, but a single blemish cant ruin a whole game. i can see myself loading this up and just fucking around with it even after ive perfected it, which is a HIGH complement from me. its got that same sauce as all the games i played as a kid, where it feels like if you only got one game per year, you could play the fuck out of until that whole time without getting bored. you know the kind of games im talking about, those jrpgs and zelda-like adventure games where it just feels like the game doesnt want you to leave. like yeah there are games where its fun to replay the campaign over and over, and this feels like one of those too dont get me wrong, but it just feels like its giving you so much to play around with, to explore and unlock and even just to fuck around and exist in the world. sure, as an adult it feels kinda nice when a game is short, cuz you know you wont have to be married to it for a year while you balance real-life shit in between the video games, but thats why it being optional is so thoughtful. also 30 hours is a totally healthy length for a game to be completed in

i guess what im saying is that bomb rush cyberfunk knows exactly what its doing. this feels like how a game from the era its paying homage to should feel, how it would be designed with the sensibilities of the time, but without subtracting from what i appreciate about modern titles. if you told me this was a remaster of an OG xbox game that added shit like autosaving, id totally buy it if i didnt know better.

im worried im underselling how much i love this game, so i guess ill just say that i love jet set radio. jsr classic has some of the best vibes in the medium, and future is straight up my favorite retro game of all time. and brc eclipses both of them combined. i would like to apologize to anyone who has any interest in working towards xbox emulation. i fear that interest in the field will somehow decrease even further now that the only xbox game worth emulating that hasnt just been ported to pc has been totally outclassed. good luck trying to top this, sega

i see a lot of folk complaining about jp in street fighter 6 right. and hes extremely strong but hes not gamebreaking. and i was like why the hell is everyone complaining about him so much. then i realized while talking to my brother. what sf6 is really good at compared to other fighting games is making the general player experience a lot less rough. like compared to tekken (where until you get a huge amount of knowledge regarding all 50+ characters youre just gonna get blown up by random shit) its a lot less demoralizing to lose because of how the drive system (impact, rush, parry, etc) takes the responsibility off the players lack of knowledge and makes it rooted in sheer reaction timing and attentiveness. in tekken if youre getting blown up by a characters tricks its usually because you dont know what they do. theres too many with a LOT of moves. sf6 still has a LOT of that but because there are so many options to carve a comeback unrelated to matchup knowledge thru its systems the game doesnt force the player to go do homework like tekken, it lets em rock it a little more

but then it makes it so intermediate players dont know how to lab matchups and cant beat JP (who plays soooo different compared to everyone else) and end up complaining about it. so there is a downside

i shouldnt really be giving any hot takes on character design as someone who, despite having mild success in the adoptable scene in highschool, absolutely does NOT still got it when it comes to character designing (nowadays im just trying to do my best orz) but i do think one of the most important things with character design is that they serve the medium theyre in well.

like, a super exaggerated shape style triangle man with tiny legs a la mr incredible works great for an action cartoon movie but i dont know how good that style would work in a visual novel where you tend to only see the top half of the body. you wont be able to appreciate the tiny legs 😔

and as much as i goof on the visually cluttered anime boys in otome games and their odd fashion choices (kent from amnesia. at least 21 belts. 11 on one arm alone) i genuinely think they work for what they need to do, like all those fucking sashes and scarves and cords and capes and swishy things on the ikemen sengoku guys, painful to draw for me who wants to draw a goofy comic of them but WONDERFUL for an unanimated visual novel sprite, flowing clothes and hair adds a lot of movement to static images that you'll be staring at for 20-50 hours.

but of course on the visual novel/japanese adv game end of things u also have stuff like phoenix wright and the absolutely beautiful hotel dusk that tend to have blockier silhouettes than the fluttery flowing cloth and hair of like, a character in a bishoujo game from Key or something, but their sprites are animated which benefits from the blockier and (usually) less cluttered designs.

and theres still lots of exaggeration to be had to get very varied character designs, like the jake hunter games have a very grounded semi-realistic style but everyones posture and body types and expressions are pretty distinct, just the distinction is focused on the upper half of the body rather than the whole body like you would focus on with a comedy slapstick cartoon or like a comedy newspaper comic strip. okay its becoming increasingly obvious through what im talking about that i grew up in north america in the 00s-10s using deviantart where if ur cartoons didnt look like disney or pixar or like i dont know johnny test ur designs were considered not good enough so im still in that world. im still in that world. i hope the world is more open now

and something like the hotel dusk designs also would work well for drama or thriller comics - like i was also thinking about big sparkling shoujo manga designs and like. in a comic if ur like a garfield slapstick comedy u wanna look like a garfield, but if ur constantly doing closeups with serious emotion like a romantic drama shoujo manga, having big glittering expressive eyes and emphasizing the upper half of the character is pretty effective for the combination of medium and genre. i also think naoki urasawa's character designs would look so so good in a hotel dusk style game, that guy makes like the perfect thriller design, varied and diverse in shapes but so effective for a serious toned horror mystery thriller thing will lots of closeups of characters faces. i guess because i love serious and dramatic stories about people talking a whole lot i do gravitate towards this style of character design, where the emphasis is on the silhouette from the waist up LOL but it really goes to show that some character designs that may not fit the late 2000s comedy animation shape-based design philosophy have their own places where they thrive <- obvious thing everyone knows except for me who was on deviantart too much when i was 12

i think what im trying to say is i think big boobied super busy anime girl vtuber designs are fine, good even. i like em, i think they do the job and a lot of work goes into them. u only have a headshot/bust (heh) shown on screen 99% of the time u might as well make it with a bunch of particle effects and cool hairclips and lace and weird moving head wings or some shit. slap some sparkles on that thang

on one hand im scared of their fans so i will say for the sake of not being hunted down by the baby boos: im not seriously beefing with them i just think its funny especially since my partner loves them. and as someone on kätwt i am forced against my will to know about these twinks anyway i might as well fight em in a tesco car park. they live in the uk rn i can do that now.

on the other hand, the whole thing where theyre touring in about a month (so i get the vibe this is all very last minute ngl) and instead of having a fixed opener theyre opening 'applications' (through social media, so it'll just be a numbers game ultimately) for fans local to each show to open, completely unpaid, feels.... weird to me. like, if you aren't going to pay an opener, the least you can do is not take advantage of the parasocial relationship your fans have with you for free labour. they could contact artists in a professional capacity where there isnt a power imbalance that will make them less likely to say no. from what i can tell, a lot of the artists applying that have a decent amount of fan support are professional artists anyway. like they couldve just done that.

also, these lads are in their 20s. they know how twitter works. they know what social media is like. and quite frankly if they werent already aware of the reputation their fanbase has maybe the fact that some artists have already started attacking others wanting to open the same show as them will make them aware. im not saying the fact that this has pitted their fans against each other is jo's fault. but i do think at least using a private application form rather than using social media wouldve been a much smarter choice. like i said, this all feels very last minute to me. if it weren't perhaps they wouldve put more thought into this.

Been silent for a while so I thought Id give an update

Brain has been absolutely FLOODING with ideas for different projects I wanna make like stories and games as well as fanart pieces I realized I never did that I really wanna do and its been so much that Im having a hard time functioning as my brain is constantly dividing itself (Dont worry Im still happy just overwhelmed with thinks ;v;)

I've been experimenting around with softwares to see whats best for me to continue animating in/most comfortable and sadly scrapped some Ideas but I have settled on my next animation a big reanimation project for Sonic adventure where I try to reanimate all of gammas cutscenes. This is definitely gonna be a longer project but I have already started doing sketches to get an Idea of how to render em in my own style heres a little peak at that .

Im also doing a bit of a fan piece on the side of my favorite souls borne boss ever Pontiff Sulyvahn or as I call em MY BOI POPE SULL. Legit a great antagonist and just hands down the coolest fromsoft boss heres a look at that too.

Anywho for game Idea stuff Im still workin on my little Weaver knight project I'm almost done Sir Apells reference sheet then I will be moving on to other characters and regions like "The Storied Knight" or "Craneus the fountain of scholars". This project always gets me super giddy and Ive even started thinking of a sequel game called "Voyager"

The whole Idea of the first game is to literally weave your way through levels with different types of thread that do different things enemies that can only be defeated with weaving and puzzles that work around the different thread types

And then we have story Ideas these are jumbling around in my brain the most sadly I dont have any art for the most of them that I havent shown already but the list goes

Tales of Uvanos - I really cant share much on this one without giving away its big twist but... Magical fantasy setting with some """fun""" takes in things like Dragons Magic and Bird People ;v;

Endless wilds - Monster hunter/Ghibli style post apocalypse with """"Magic"""" being more like an extremely unstable element on the periodic table than actual magic Robot tries to raise a Human child who thinks shes a Bird also sinister somethings crawling back up from a long gone age.

Unnamed scifi project - pretty simple people fight eachother in giant mechs theres a dinosaur alien dude antagonist simply named Shred who I do have a sketch for <:D

Prefantasy - FANTASY WORLD BUT SET IN THE CRETACEOUS PERIOD the people are trying to figure out the mystery of "the growing star"

I will eventually give all these original projects unique tags when they start getting really fleshed out but until then I got nothin.

sat down recently to power through pokemon violet [laptop was in for repairs].

i think so many months out from its release and with a lot of the buzz around it died down i can settle on a lot more coherent of an opinion on it. and that opinion is that scarlet and violet are at their best when its doing things to actually encourage exploration of the environment. theres some really fascinating lil mini areas here and there with a solid atmosphere one can just indulge in as they scrounge in the dirt for interesting pokemon.

it certainly makes battles more tedious then ever however since without the constrained angles and forced camera perspectives of the pocket battle dimension the spectacle doesnt hit that hard and without that spectacle how much time each battle takes up becomes ever more rapidly apparent from playing out animations to loading up battles [its not quite that bad but it is noticeably longer compared to the 'hayday' of pokemons inception where battles load in split seconds]. it breaks up the pace too much effectively.

and the performance does bite it quite badly in certain spots regardless of what ya do, which does unavoidably hamper things.

as for gameplay, well i haven't quite gotten to the very end of things i will note [for anyone who hasn't already figured this out anyways] that the most natural way of doing the whole thing is in my opinion just tackling whichever titan/don/gym is closest from your starting pick until ya hit a roadblock. the upgrades you aquire from doing so come at a natural pace that way as does the level curve.

as for each of the 'individual' [as i would honestly say the game was more so geared for doing everything at once] paths though

victory road: the easiest of the god damn paths and clearly geared towards being your first path/the most noob friendly. the last gym leader is nearly ten levels lower across all of his pokemon then the last titan or don. the gym challenges themselves range from insipidly easy, to this is literally just a gauntlet, to actually kinda fun and interesting [the normal gym challenge being the highlight honestly]. as for this crop of gym leaders can't say im a fan either, they arent bad they just dont elicit much interest from me.

legendary titans: the middle difficulty path where the only challenge is if your pokemon are leveled enough to not immediately die. if your at or just a lil below parity with em, the titan fights can be pretty fun but if your hitting well above their level they quickly become a joke. it needed something more then just the titan fights as the pokemon themselves are literally just out in the open and marked on your map even when they change positions. there needed to be some sort of minigame where ya wrangle them down before you can actually fight them, then we'd be getting somewhere.

operation starfall: the most difficult path, the dons tend to be higher level then the local gym leaders as noted before, and their god damn super cars are tougher then the titan pokemon on the whole even packing some nasty strategies behind them [with the best soundtrack for their fights by far compared to the other paths]. would be the highlight of things if not for the fact that the lead up to them is pretty boring and completely toothless. eri kicked my ass [in part because of my own lazy strategies and a team makeup that was particularly vulnerable to her] a couple of times but the slugfest with her goons was a leisurely stroll by comparison. i think operation starfall would have been a shineout example in the game [and possibly worth the price of admission alone] had the challenges before each don fight been both more varied and more challenging/active in participation. say with atticus ya have to sneak through his base like a ninja before ya can fight him, well with eri its a battle gauntlet with no rests against tough pokemon to mimic the 'mountain climb' the game has ya do.

and as for story

victory road: well im not thrilled on the gym leaders and the elite four ya get hints of before hand [i do appreciate seeing the elite four before challenging them atleast], i like nemona quite a lot as a rival striking the right balance of friendly but still competitive a lot of other friendly rivals completely miss the boat on. he enthusiasms just kinda infectious really. and the goku memes do help brighten my opinion on her. because they are absolutely true.

legendary titans: the most emotional i got was with arven and the dog, and i can fully admit thats because it speaks more to my own experiences then arvens strained relation with his dad. arven himself just feels a bit to awkwardly written for me to fully get onboard with myself, like i like him well enough but more so despite of the writing rather then because of it.

operation starfall: well the battles might have been the best, the story definitely feels the weakest and its frustrating to feel that way about it. like its clear what they wanna do there, what themes they wanna tackle about bullying and how it can be more complicated then adults make it out to be, and on not judging people on appearances or eccentric behaviour, themes that are good to teach kids in general, and all that. i dont even dislike the dons themselves. its just... i can feel the writers hand at work here demanding i feel sympathy for these people and that just makes me wanna dig my heels in on the matter and say 'no i will not blindly awe at the sap story your putting on here'. not helped by penny's motives for wanting to break up the thing she started feeling confused [though i can admit thats probably part of the point] but more importantly so underwritten. in fact she just feels the most underwritten of the three of them [arven, nemona and penny] in general which probably isn't helping the emotional impact of it.

might follow up on this once i polish the very ends of the game off.

OK. MY THOUGHTS & THEOREYS ABT THE NIER ANIME. spoilers under the cut if you give a shit

the show is actually kinda funny. definitely more so than the game is. like im not going to nier for comedy but there were a few moments that got laughs out of me, at least in the after credit puppet shows. i did outright fucking howl at the one where 2b and 9s were showing off their self destruct functions, the bit in that one caught me so off guard

i like the way the machines are getting fleshed out also like i feel like theres more of a focus on expanding on them. especially the simone fight specifically like oh my god when 9s got hacked by her that got me. but i mean the different machine centric scenes like the flower tending machine and pascal's flashback feel like an added layer onto what the game already provides abt machines

i also liked seeing shots of different yorha androids. i liked seeing the different designs for em i kinda wish we got to see some more of those fools

i think that it might be taking place after ending e of the game. like it would definitely be a lot of shit for the pods to bring back and all but i mean with some of the little bits of info like the fact androids are the ones that keep rebuilding the destroyed buildings in hopes of humanity's return, pascal's village being in a different location, and the fact you can see the destroyed sea machine when they first enter the flooded city rather than ever battling it in the anime stand out to me as like, this shit has happened before. its not been completely erased/rebuilt in the hopes of trying again, but things have happened before and something is being retried whether or not it will succeed. almost like 9s pointed out in the game when observing machines making the same mistakes over and over again, its like the point almost was to fail.

also with the reveal at the end of the red girls being in the bunker's servers, its making me think that the ark that was sent off in ending d with the machines data hit the bunker and was backed up into there. i cld be talking outta my ass with that one but i mean...

ALSO. WHEN 9S HACKED INTO EMIL'S MEMORIES AND IT SHOWED FLASHBACKS OF REPLICANT IT MADE ME SO ILL I WANTED TO THROW UP

speaking of i think that version of emil could be the original because of how many memories he retained of replicant compared to the fact the clones of emil dont rlly remember much without prompting

the way the characters are being swapped in certain ways is kind of making me feel insane. like comparing how in the game 9s is the one who (in the first half of the game) took on all the sidequests and seemed to be softening to machines and beginning to doubt his beliefs about them all needing to be destroyed, but in the anime hes still ruthless about machines, compared to how 2b is the opposite where shes the one agreeing to do the sidequests to help others and seems to be the one doubting her beliefs about machines and keeps hesitating to finish them off when being tasked to kill them. not to mention the fact they outright switched eve and adam's roles where eve is the one who dies first and adam is the one who goes out of his way to seek revenge out of grief.

adam is so brother nier coded in this one

ok i said that as a joke but honest to god i was feeling the brother nier energy in him im not kidding. also them using dark collosus as a theme song when adam attacks the resistance camp and in the massive machine form really reminded me of when shadowlord used the knave shade to attack nier's village. ALSO THE GIANT MACHINE LOOKED LESS LIKE A MACHINE AND MORE LIKE A SHADE! like it was an all black creature with golden threading on the limbs. this one i think is just me being sick in the fucking head but it got me ok.

also can we fucking talk about the fact that during the first adam fight in the copied city, he cloned 9s over and over to attempt to kill 2b like how the 2b clones tried to kill 9s in the tower. and how 9s is the one who had to force 2b's hand to land the killing blow on adam after their boss fight. and that he nearly stabbed her when the logic virus took over. and the preview for season 2 that had the frames where it looked like 2b was holding 9s' corpse again. um. i think 9s might be the one to die in season 2 and 2b is the one to go on a revenge mission because of it

9s is like so subtlely a sicko in this version like he always was but i neeeeed to grab him like a chew toy and tear him apart

Look. The answer is gonna be just. "Its complicated"! Because homestuck is fucking complicated!!! And the continued content from that sphere of shit each continues some aspects of it, and what you liked of Homestuck is going to greatly determine what you get out of it.

If you liked the worldbuilding and plot of homestuck, you'll probably love the Epilogues and Homestuck^2. Its darker, and very much focused around those aspects. Read the epilogues before HS^2 tho, because HS^2 is a sequel based on the events if the Epilogues. Its a lot more about the concepts of storywriting and narratives, but is known for somewhat fumbling the characters. (I personally think those complaints are overblown, but i see where they come from).

If you liked the political commentary of the troll world, and the theme-play of Hussie's writing, you'll love Psycholonials. Its a lot shorter, more openly queer, and VERY openly radical. Its also about as irreverent as the rest of Hussie's work, for better or for worse--if you dislike how flippant Hussie was with race-related content in Homestuck, you might also hate how he handles the subject in Psycholonials.

If youre a fan of the homestuck CHARACTERS, though, I think Hiveswap and Pesterquest and Friendsim are gonna be your cup of tea. In particular, you'll probably want to read Friendsim and Pesterquest in that order (as they present a continuous story between the two), and then Hiveswap. These games really have the spirit of character building that Homestuck had. Theres also some meta wankery in it so its probably overall the best route to go down if youre not quite sure what you liked about homestuck.

Anyways, my actual best answer is: All of them. Make your own opinions! Theres this fear in people today that if you end up trying something you dont like, you're somehow stuck with it???? And so they feel the need to get external validation of their choices. And thats meaningless, because what one person hates, you might love! Everyone i know hates the epilogues and Homestuck^2, but i love em! Art is subjective, so theres no definitive answer. *shrugs* mileage will vary for all
