we here on earth have a distant bright sun every day and a close, dimmer moon every night but cosmically, a planet with one moon orbiting our star is kind of insignificant

how many moons does Saturn have? Jupiter? hell, pluto has a moon and it's tiny compared to earth. cosmically, the moon and the sun are distant relatives, if anything a great grandmother and a young 2nd or 3rd cousin, but here on earth because of our perspective they're related

two sides of the same coin, two entities only present at opposite ends of time, two lovers locked away from each other for eternity except one day when their love blackens the sky, the poetry of the sun and moon are astounding and it's all thanks to the matter of perspective we have here on earth

He’s a Little Confused but He's Got the Holiday Spirit

Hello! As the title implies, it's time for this to become a fic, for those that don't know, I wrote a prompt response that's basically a christmas au of confused spirit (curtosey of @divinit3a) and it was so good that I decided to make a full fic for it. this post contains the basic info of the fic, some lovely designs brought to life by Pom and will include links to each chapter as it posts ^_^

There's also a little poll at the end to vote on the title if you'd like to participate~

The Plot:

You're a blacksmith/animatronic technican in a small, mountain village, known far and wide across the kingdom for it's holiday decorations and delight. So much so that the royal family themselves visit yearly to partake in the festivities.

However, due to some recent threats and strange has happenings, there's much more security this year, and among that security is two royal guards who seem keenly interested in keeping you from investigating too far into the matter. And you, they're also interested in you.

The Characters:

Y/N - You! With the same personality, motivations, and goals as Y/N from Confused Spirit, and with a similar job as well. You run a shop in town with a small team of smithies, tinkerers, and inventors at your side. (I don't have a design currently but imagine a the most androgynous blacksmith/medival peasent outfit ever <33)

Sun & Moon - The two guards that have been meddling in your affairs. Though, given they've been a surprising help with your siblings, you can't say much. Also with the same personalities, and characteristics as Confused Spirit. However, they're motivations and goals are different and do not reflect their CS counterparts. Meaning, anything discovered about these two does not apply to or justify any actions taken by them in CS. Designs below are by Pom who brought my vision to life <3333

The Shop Crew - the parts & infastructure team from CS! with an adjustment here or there :)

Melissa & Gabriel - Your siblings. Still adorable. And still a menace.

Both of these genres are complete opposites, so far from each other as to not seemingly be associated at all, which of course means they are practically the same thing.

Both genres, in a tried-and-true representation of themselves, force the player to engage with the game and their systems from entirely different angles.

In Metroidvanias, everything is static; the world never changes completely, rarely more than an unlocked door or a mechanical equivalent, to varying extremes; a whole new zone opens up, or a secret backroom reveals itself. When you gain an upgrade, it's with you for the rest of the game. And an upgrade is frequently just a new type of key; the double-jump to let you go up in that tall room; a morphball/gasform/etc. that lets you slip through small holes or grates.

In Roguelikes, everything is always changing; die, and the map rearranges itself. The items you get reset and you get new ones on the next run. Die, and you unlock more possible things to get (and then lose) on the next run, but not even those changes are static; they only add to the number of changes that could be made on the next run. There are no keys or doors to unlock, only possibilities for more changes.

So Metroidvanias make the player engage with the level, memorizing key points on the map, learning shortcuts, key landmarks, and forcing you to interact with the game's map, level design, and mobility options. The world is the game, but not in a sandbox style where it's yours to manipulate; it's yours to explore, chart, delve, and master.

Meanwhile, Roguelikes force you to engage with the systems of the game; they refuse to give you the comfort of a rigid map or permanent upgrades. You don't unlock a double-jump button or learn how to navigate That One Annoying Room. If you want to proceed, it's not the world you're going to need to master, it's the game's basics; what you start with is the only thing you can rely on, because everything else is randomized to make certain you focus on learning the core of the game itself instead. Roguelikes are the definition that Bruce lee quote, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.".

Metroidvanias ask you to engage with the game by familiarizing yourself with its world; Roguelikes ask you to engage with the game by familiarizing yourself with its system. But both genres hold a focus on tight controls and a deceptive complexity.

A Metroidvania pushes the player to be proactive, while a Roguelike pushes the player to be reactive; Metroidvanias ask you to take stock of things, memorizing them for later to return to when you get a relevant power-up, while Roguelikes ask you to act quickly, make decisions, and if you fail, just go at it again.

So you would think the two are absolutely incompatible, that they're too opposite to go together; they are sun and moon, always to be separate together, not heads and tails, two sides of the same coin; you HAVE to pick one or the other, no exception.

But actually, that's a lie; the answer is obvious, plain and simple; it's just that, because it doesn't technically reset you completely every time, it doesn't get counted as a roguelike; and because it isn't fully focused on tracing your steps back, it doesn't get counted as a Metroidvania. But the true combination Metroidvania/Roguelike is two words; Dark Souls.

if he’s the sun, then you’re the moon, illuminated only by the reflection of his light. it shines from his face in beams, loud laughter and wide grin dancing through the air until it reaches you, and you light up as well. you’re not quite as bright as he is, and you’re not sure you ever will be, but this is enough for you. to let his rays shine down on you; for him to let you shine them right back at him. it’s more than you wanted, honestly.

but sometimes, wooyoung argues that it’s what you needed. on the days that his light doesn’t quite illuminate you quite as bright, and you sit and tell him that you don’t deserve him, he simply calls you a liar and drags you down to the sofa with him. “you deserve more than me, baby,” he coos softly in your ear as he smothers you with everything he has to offer. his warmth, his light, his everything, “you deserve the sun on a silver platter.” you’ve yet to tell him that it’s already in your possession, holding you to its chest like you’re the most precious thing in the world. perhaps one day you will; no doubt it’ll bring out a smile so bright it blinds you all over again.

“i don’t deserve you,” you insist, although your body betrays your words. perhaps it’s pure selfishness that keeps you clinging to him despite knowing that you’re not quite good enough to hold him so close, or perhaps it’s the pure need to have some goodness in your life. you’re not sure, but either way you’re not quite ready to let go of him just yet, “you’re so… bright!”

he scoffs as if you’ve said something ridiculous. you haven’t; he’s the centre of your solar system, the only reason for you to smile each and every morning. he’s brighter than the big ball of gas in the sky, and if you weren’t so intent on keeping him by your side, you’re sure that he’d be up there doing its job instead.

“you’re brighter,” he lies, although his words drip with enough sincerity that you could almost believe them, “you make me bright.”

you don’t.

because you’re the moon and he is the sun. he could shine bright without you, but you could never dream of shining again without him by your side. he is the reason you shine, not the other way around.

“no, i don’t,” you mutter into his chest, defiance dripping from your tongue. he must think you’re joking with the way he chuckles into your scalp, but you’re not. you mean every word.

“are you calling me a liar?”

are you? maybe, although you’ve never accused him of lying before. relationships are built on trust, are they not? to accuse him of fibbing to you would be to turn that whole concept on his head! you don’t like that idea, so you push it away.

“i’m just saying that i can’t make you brighter,” you huff, and again, he seems amused.

“why is that, baby?” he presses a soft kiss to your crown as his arms tighten around you like a warm summer breeze that flutters by you. it’s hard not to let yourself relax entirely into his chest, sighing gratefully as he lets you get comfortable.

“because you make me brighter,” you admit softly, and for a moment the room is silent.

he hums, contemplation laced into the quiet sound.

“well that is a conundrum, isn’t it?” he says after a moment, and you can feel him grinning against the mop of hair atop your head, “how about you stay here and keep me warm while i try and figure this paradox out, hm?”

Thoughts on Charlie and Morfydd's interview (PART II)

As promised, another review! I'm loving these interviews and bts content that has been released recently. It's a small consolation since we're going to be waiting so long for the next season!

These two scenes were my favorites from the season finale. Because when it comes to such complex characters, there is always more to it. A tear is never just a tear, there are always reasons behind it and I created many theories in my mind about these scenes.

The same with Galadriel's leap to death, when she once again resists Sauron's temptation and chooses the path of light. Galadriel weighed her choice and I don't believe she jumped to it lightly.

This is the big difference between Sauron and Galadriel. While Sauron wants to destroy the world until he can rebuild it his way, Galadriel would rather live in a realm of ash and ruins than ally herself with the cause of all evil.

Yes, Galadriel desired power in both the books and the show. But she recognized the evil of the ring and how it could change her completely. And she refuses to follow that path of darkness.

“Obviously, she survived as the final scene of the season and Lord of the Rings proves. Clark also shared a fun fact during this chat that hilariously proved this too, noting that in The Silmarillion, the elves “were insane and just jumped on loads of buildings and created loads of havoc.” So, not only was this moment emotional and deep, but it also was a fun call back to the source material – which kind of blew my mind.”

I will always point this out, because it is a very important fact for me. Both the actors and everyone involved in the creation of the show are always so committed to following the source material, to spreading references throughout the show. I love that, it shows a touching care and dedication.

It was an interesting parallel. We started the season with Elrond escaping with the rings, choosing the uncertainty his escape would bring rather than giving in to possible evil. And then we ended the show with Galadriel making the same choice.

When we look closely, there are many similarities in the scenes of Galadriel and Elrond throughout the show. Especially towards the end of the season.

I believe that at that moment, Galadriel completely understood Elrond's choice and why he did what he did, what motivated him to jump when there seemed to be no other solution.

Galadriel and Elrond are like the sun and the moon, calm and storm in their choices. Regardless of the reasons that motivated them to jump, deep down, the motivation remains the same. And I liked that this was a way to represent the connection between the two characters.

“That parallel is so powerful, and it really hammered home the idea that Galadriel was fully out of Sauron’s shadow now. However, when it came to what Sauron was thinking at that moment, he wasn’t comprehending that at all.”

I decided to compare the two scenes side by side to explain my thoughts on the similarity of the scenes.

At first, Galadriel and Elrond are confronted by the proposals that are being presented to them. And they know that there are only two choices left to make. Conflict and uncertainty permeate their faces.

Here we glimpse the moment of understanding, of acceptance. Both know that they can only decide between two paths: run away with the ring, or hand over the ring and accept all the consequences caused by that choice.

The final choice is the great sacrifice. When there is nothing left to do, all choices have slipped away. To me, death/leap is an analogy about free will. When it is better to choose the most painful, most difficult path, than to give in to our enemy, to what scares us and can hurt so many.

Galadriel certainly did not expect Elrond to make such a sudden, definitive decision. Perhaps Galadriel believed that Elrond would "see reason" and side with her.

Just as Sauron seemed confident that Galadriel would choose his side. Because he believes that his side is the right one, that his side is salvation. How Galadriel thought about Elrond.

This was hilarious, to say the least. I don't think Sauron was used to being told no. Adar was a slap in the face when he betrayed him, and I imagine Sauron expected it to be different with Galadriel.

I agree with Charlie's thinking. I don't believe Sauron would be able to understand what Galadriel was really trying to say. Because that's not the kind of feeling he's familiar with.

To Sauron, healing Middle-earth is a gift, it is his mission. He does not realize that his cruel actions are not the cure, but what is rotting Middle-earth even more. So, he does not understand Galadriel's words.

Sauron was so confident that Galadriel would stand by him that her refusal surprised him. He was visibly frustrated. He was disappointed. How could she not see his point and stand by him? I would say he murdered Glûg for that. To vent his frustration, his unwillingness to accept rejection.

Ultimately, I believe that Sauron always listens to what is said to him, it is just to what degree those words penetrate him. It is a pattern. When in the first season Galadriel and Halbrand are in Númenor, he listens and remembers her words, her advice to touch the darkness to find the light.

As he listens like Annatar to the words of Celebrimbor. He is affected precisely because he listens and is affected by those words. Then he follows his pattern of destroying whoever hurts him, whoever affects him.

In the next season, I believe we will see this new side of Sauron. Where he is learning to deal with Galadriel's words.

Because Charlie is right, Sauron is too arrogant to believe that Galadriel would even think of denying him. And much less that she would jump off a cliff after refusing his proposal.

I'm really looking forward to the release of the third season and to discovering the path of these characters on this new journey!

There's something special about Moon being the only side of the DCA who has canonically (gameverse) voiced his counterpart's name ("No more Sun", which yes it's not him directly saying Sun's name since it's a figure of speech, but still) whereas Sun - the chatterbox - only refers to Moon via "he" or "other me". Moon, the quiet one who mostly laughs vs Sun who mostly uses words. Sun, who is scared of Moon, never utters his name whereas Moon clearly has no problem with it. Both of them using "we☀️/us🌙" prior to Eclipse. Moon, whose only opinion of Sun we can infer is "the other me trapped me in light so now I trap him in shadow", vs Sun's whole thing which is profoundly more fleshed out.

I don't know man, the "no more Sun" line always did things to me. I remember playing Ruin for the first time and getting this... jarring emotion when I heard Moon saying that. It's such a small line but good god did I latch onto it.

No but genuinely, how does Sun even get drunk... Like, is there some magic he's had this entire time that allows him to process alcohol in the same way as humans? Are nanomachines somehow susceptible to it??? Like I am truly wholly tryna figure something out for this because if robots really don't get effected by alcohol, then Sun's drinking really isn't a problem for the alcoholism reasons.

It might be a problem for like, maintenance reasons though. I don't think wine is particularly dangerous to robotic parts in any way—just as dangerous as water or soda or many other liquids—but if some of it isn't fully "processed" then it's probably gunking some stuff up internally. Maybe not to a fatal degree, but still to an annoying degree.

Idk just kinda thinkin' out loud. I think drinking headcanons are entertaining but they're really something that makes you go "yeah there's no way this could happen, I'm just bullshitting for fun" lmao 😭

Security breach's story (including ruin) was super weird, right? Left a lot unexplained, introduced a lot of confusing elements, cleared nothing up, and made it worse with the ending of ruin. Very frustrating.

But.

I have a bold claim - in this essay I'm going to tell you that I think I've found the unifying theory of security breach, INCLUDING ruin. And no, it's nothing that's mentioned in the actual game.

It's 'Remnant'.

Now presumably matpat or some other theorist has made more detailed connections and I just haven't been able to find it, and I'm a casual fan at best lol. But I'm quite chuffed, so. I'm sharing.

Remnant is basically glowing soul juice produced by high emotions - children, trauma, excitement, suffering, death. Ectoplasm, essentially. It gets into physical objects and stores that emotion, like how a stuffed teddy is full of love or a torture device is full of pain. Yay!

Afton, during his killing spree, harvested this remnant from kids to fuel his plan for immortality (or something). He discovered along the way that if it was infused into a material like metal, then it could be shaped and, when combined with any form of intelligence ('even ai', he says!) it acts as a source of independent power 'that translates into movement, which is why things may appear haunted'. Ergo, animatronics. His perfect army of golems and test subjects.

The first round was, of course, fnaf 1, with the children literally stuffed into the suits to power them, which, yikes, horrible, and in a food establishment? Later he figured out how to skip the rotting corpse step and directly infuse metal, which made it temperature volatile and apparently hard to store. Anything is better than the first round. This resulted in sister location with the scooper, which could (as best I figure?) take the remnant out directly and store it for later use. It could also recycle animatronics, to scrap them without wasting all that precious soul juice that could theoretically power something forever.

Anyway, decades later, the same company is still running, and their precious 'animatronics' are now full on artificially intelligent robots with an army of drone cleaners and a dozen well covered up missing children.

You see where I'm going with this?

I think the glam rock animatronics are crafted out of the newest, highest grade remnant metal to bring them to life (maybe a little too much)... and to aid in the gathering of remnant to power Trap/afton, in his little recharge pod under the earth, at vannys direction. (And presumably all that after hour neon lighting, let's be real.)

The animatronics are all secretly equipped with track and destroy technology - roxy with her sensitive ears and x-ray eyes, chica with her stunlock voice box, monty with his metal rending claws and pouncing ability... Freddy with his chest cavity big enough to fit a small child. Like old times!

I swear the daycare attendant has infrared vision and very possibly direct access to the cctv, but anyway. (I also swear freddy collapsing on stage and triggering the safety protocol after hours was the only thing keeping him from joining, even leading the pack of machines to comb the place and take Gregory down to the scooper by trick or by stick, and Gregory almost made a fatal decision when he hid in the chest cavity. No freddy has ever been nice after hours, and there's no reason given why this one is.)

Back to the DA, it gives the implications of their old power core (freddys original upgrade and heavily theorised to have previously belonged to the only 'tronic out during the hourly recharge) a whole new meaning. Perhaps the setting of the daycare and all that happy sugar high children energy making happy memories was a perfect environment for a low level (experimental? Inefficient?) sort of... Emotional photosynthesis? It would explain why one half is the daycare and the other is the security patrol. Food for thought. Obviously freddy isn't able to receive all those benefits for a number of reasons.

(And it might explain the poor treatment of the DA, too, if the core was removed for some reason, and why sun is struggling so hard to keep his hopes up if it can no longer absorb and process literal happiness vibes for the best haunting ever. Poor guy always gets the short end of the stick. Maybe it also explains why the DA is the only animatronic to glow... because of the remnant metal? The extra juice they were supposed to have?)

Yeah, but what about ruin? How does it fit into this?

Well, for one, the new scooper. It's the literal gathering tool and storage place for all this remnant, so it's presumably pretty vital. Afton is parked directly above it in a recharge pod, sucking up all that sweet sweet juice. He's literally drinking children's tears, the monster.

And the mimic. Because there's a second part to remnant that only becomes relevant now. It's the worst and strongest emotion that can only be created through immense pain and suffering. 'Agony'. A black sludge of distilled horrors. And the thing is, it's highly infectious. But agony is useless. Unless it's combined with remnant in a specific way, and the resulting reaction is extremely powerful and dangerous.

The mimic is infected with agony. And it's found itself probably the biggest source of remnant in the world. The battery of (potentially) the whole pizza plex, and every animatronic inside it. (Moon may well have been the first infected... If the patrol animatronic encountered the mimic on its arrival. Ooh, now there's a thought. It's more likely it saw and tried to stop vanny from some unethical activity (it's a purely robot job!) And she... Prevented it from becoming a recurring issue with the glitch code. Ah, but there's no proof.)

Either all that remnant is now corrupted, or converted. My money is not on converted because the mimic is not spreading a plague of suffering across the land, and is instead trying to lure kids in again to replenish the remnant. And the poor animatronics are still clinging to blackened, crippled life.

It certainly would explain why the company just dropped the entire location without either bulldozing it to the ground or trying to scavenge and repair. With the animatronics infected with agony, it's far too dangerous to do either, and of course officials absolutely cannot find out.

TLDR: I think the missing puzzle piece is 'Remnant' to explain aftons presence, the strangely alive animatronics, the point of all those child disappearances Gregory was supposed to be investigating, the scooper, the mimic, vannys actual job as head enabler for afton, the animatronic's violent upgrades, the true goal of the pizza plex and why it was built over the sinkhole, but most importantly... how they're footing that electricity bill.

and when hiraeth releases their final mini album before a year long hiatus or more so poppy can focus in her health + kaia can do her own things + yvan can do musicals and do whatever projects they want because in the dulceverse yvan will be glinda for wicked instead of ari bc i can do whatever i want this is my silly universe and i can do whatever but two months in and vivi's rent is due and the lights are flickering and the eviction notice is at the front door and none of the girls are answering her calls despite them being together at poppy's vacay home in lake como so she had ONE chance and ONE dream she had NO OTHER CHOICE so she got out a dusty and retired angel of the season project and got these three talented girls from diff companies that she's been eyeing to be hiraeths little sister unit and it's all fun and games until the new girlies don't do good because there will never be another hiraeth / another kaia poppy and yvan and they have a lot to carry on their shoulders even during predebut and there's a lot of self doubts and hesitance and insecurity and tension between vivi and even themselves and it becomes a really big problem where they don't stand each other or just refuse to understand each other and it will be a story of them slowly becoming and understanding that they are their own person, either alone or together as they try to carry on a legacy even when they are not hiraeth they are THEMSELVES!

LORE SPEAKING they were born / created by "mother" the exact day each seasonal angels broke their own loop by eating their forbidden fruit = giving into temptation and they are little angels who were born to parallel hiraeth as hiraeth weren't "pure" anymore but ffs the little sisters wanted to be like them wtf....... and then they were left behind in celestias castle or palace i don't remember what it was and they hold some kind of grudge because why did they leave and not us?! why did they not took us with them?! but eventually hiraeths doctrine cult like messages gets to them and they are not ready to break their loop but instead they start shaking things up in celestia's castle palace whatever and being a pain in the ass for "mother" because they are sharing to other angels that they could be and do more outside mothers doctrine and this even makes the little sisters realize that they are their own person/angel and they are not the seasonal aengels as much as mother wanted them to be and maybe they start their own "cult" and its not like "mother" can force them to leave celestia because they are perfect w no sins!

Okay, since I'm assuming this is the last design change for them, I drew Lunar again from SAMS

I'm pretty sure this is the 4th time I've drawn a SAMS Lunar design (5th if I count that Evil Lunar design, and 6th if I'm counting any Lunar design, not just SAMS), but I think this one may be my favorite one now
