So before I get into the backstory I'm going to do a little species bg since this a brand new species! Ironically yeti's have always been super low on my 'fave mythical creatures list' but here we are, some Butterverse specific lore;

Greater yeti's, usually just referred to as 'yetis' or occasionally 'abominable snowman' are the artic cousins of their warm temperate cousins the sasquatches. Both are large ape-like creatures, roughly 7-8ft tall and known well by humans. One such greater Yeti is known to the Smurfs as the guardian of the snowflowers.

Pygmy yeti's, by contrast, are much more elusive and rarely documented by anyone, not even Smurfs. They're similar sizes to small size fae, though many are much larger than Smurfs (This guy is not but he's on the smaller size for a pygmy yeti). They more closely resemble something between a polar bear and a deer. Interestingly, they often use the identifying names of both too - with children all being 'cubs' and adults separated into 'bucks' and 'does' (since they're a sentient species I suppose any nonbinary pygmy yeti's would just go by a 'yeti' instead). Both biological male and female pygmy yeti's grow antlers, although only the males grow 'manes'.

Both greater and pygmy yeti's are largely solitary, although occasionally groups of females in particular may raise several young communally, or yeti couples might live nomadically as a pair. Diets are largely scavenger/carnivore based since they live in cold climates and you take what food you get. They don't change fur colour in summer but do shed like crazy and tend to have shorter, lighter coats in warmer seasons that may occasionally have some brown whilst still being mostly white coated, similar to polar bears.

Right now that the biology stuff is out the way, on with the backstory of this particular guy!

So Yukio was actually found by Explorer - he'd been up a few of the northern mountain passes looking to mark off previously uncharted territory up there and see if there was anything worth taking for himself. Whilst exploring a particular cave, he found a small … thing. Stuck in corner, arm bleeding, and hissing at him like a spicy kitten. It was totally unexpected and honestly mostly a coincidence he even found it. Now Explorer has his faults but he's not evil, and even he wasn't about to leave this bear-cub looking thing, especially since it was injured. He's not very paternal but he does his best to try and get some story out of the creature, and when the cub refuses and says he's fine on his own, Explorer takes matters into his own hands and smurfhandles the child back to the village because he'd rather do that than leave it to die, nice guy /lh.

Whilst in the village, Sorcerer does his best to attend to the child, whilst Papa researches (the cub was particularly stubborn and refusing to admit to anything about himself). So now they had a bit of an issue - at this point there were two other non smurf infants in the village, but both were babies and it had only been at the kindness of Blacksmith that the village Goblin had been adopted, so there wasn't anyone really willing to take on an ?? especially one so stubborn. So it ends up being Sorcerer that just sort of looks after him, and starts to develop a sort of older-brother bond, whilst Papa EVENTUALLY finds some rough notes about Pygmy Yeti's and realises Smurfs know nothing about them. The cub does eventually give his name; Yukio, and explains he'd been travelling with his group who were attacked by a stoat on the mountain - he'd been bitten first but his father had jumped in to save him, leaving Yukio just enough time to escape, but he got lost and decided to hide out. As of current, their fate remains unknown, since despite the Smurf's best efforts, they were never able to track down his family either.

Yukio ends up growing up in the village, though he's initially very mistrusting of most of the other's, despite anyone's best efforts. For this reason he's never officially adopted by anyone, and by the time he is warming up to others he's pretty self reliant for a kid.

Yukio does however quickly become well known for demonstrating his caving abilities - it's a natural habitat of pygmy yeti's so he feels quite at home in the mines and caves that members of the dirt boi committee frequent. I think my original Spelunker can stay as a Smurf, he just becomes one of the guys Yukio does end up taking a liking to. He sort of views a lot of the DBC as uncle-ish figures eventually. He even takes a liking to Skelly - perhaps more specifically, Skelly's bones. Poor Skelly he already had to deal with Puppy jkgdk. Unfortunately wherever you find Skelly you usually find Archie, and Archie tends to defend him bcuz look at that face how can you be mad at that cute little bear-deer face. And since Archie also frequently needs help navigating ruins and tombs, Yukio is a big help. In the way that Nova is closer to Pal as an uncle-figure bcuz they share an interest in fossils, Yukio is closer to Archie.

Yukio also gets on well with Miner, since again, caves. And being a similar age to Miner's daughter Lapidary means the two often work in tandem, with her being more knowledgeable about the actual things they're looking for, and Yukio being the muscle, so they're good friends.

So … there he is! Part of the older-mid ng age range but not actually A next gen, just looks up to a bunch of not-uncles :)

Charles Tawaki: a DRDT Crack Theory

(Spoilers through DRDT Chapter 2 Part 1. Also for Star Wars Episodes 4 and 5, somehow???)

So… I know this sounds crazy (it is), but hear me out, okay?

After rewatching all of DRDT for a second time (as you do), I was left puzzled by Teruko’s final conversation with Veronika before the Chapter 2 motive reveal/body discovery. Y’know, the one about prosopagnosia.

Because, under my current understanding of the case, Teruko’s possible face blindness is completely irrelevant.

Now, I know my comprehension of the crime is nowhere near perfect, and that many popular theories include a culprit either dressing up as or swapping places with Arei. The person who makes the most sense for this is obviously J. She’s the same height as Arei, they’re both girls, and they have similar eye and skin colors. Additionally, J has one extra advantage that no one else does: her talent. J is the Ultimate Effects Artist, specializing in practical theater effects as opposed to digital post production.

Out of everyone in this cast, if someone was going to disguise themselves as Arei, J would have the best chance at being able to use makeup to disguise her face. Maybe her history with actors would even give her a better shot at acting like Arei, if worse comes to worse.

However, there’s a major problem with this premise at its base: even if Teruko is face blind, not everyone in the cast is. If Veronika can see the similarities between Teruko and the actress, wouldn’t she also be able to tell the differences between J and Arei? Moot point, Veronika could notice and still choose to conceal that because it would make the trial more interesting. But, Whit is still a pretty observant guy when he wants to be. Arturo has a particular eye for people’s faces, and has spent a lot of time with J specifically. Rose has a photographic memory. While it’s possible that Teruko wouldn’t be able to see through a disguised killer, between the twelve-or-so other innocent students in the rest of the case, it feels like it would be impossible for the killer to actually get away with dressing up as Arei for any meaningful amount of time, or in front of a meaningful group of people.

But this conversation with Veronika is so suspicious!!! The fact that DRDT’s creator chose to give Teruko prosopagnosia, or at the very least to suggest it, means that it has to be relevant to the story in some way, right? That’s, like, mystery writing 101.

So, I have an alternate theory as to how it could come up: if Teruko has failed to notice that her long-lost missing brother is amongst this cast.

And, that that brother was someone who was present for this very conversation: Charles.

Sound unbelievable? Well then, let me start off with some of my best evidence to get you more on board. That being, their character designs.

Charles and Teruko have pretty similar faces, all things considered. Their eyes are both pretty narrow, and upturned at the end. They also have really similar hairstyles: two bang spikes in the middle, with two longer pieces framing the face. The side opposite their long ponytail has a tuft of hair overlapping the side of the hanging piece, while the other side is more plain. Charles and Teruko also have really similar skin tones, with Teruko’s skin only being slightly redder and darker than Charles’.

Obviously, the two of them have different eye and hair colors. However, as Veronika already pointed out, that doesn’t matter:

(Teruko brings up skin color too, but it’s treated as secondary to eye and hair color.)

Inadvertently, Veronika is telling us that if two people have different eye and hair colors, they can still look similar as long as they have other similarities. Thus, while having different coloration can throw us off the scent, Charles and Teruko can still look similar, and remind us of the other.

Speaking of which, the personality similarities between Charles and Teruko have been highlighted in the story multiple times before. The most obvious one in my memory occurs at the end of the scene where Charles entrusts Teruko with the secret he received, right before Teruko decides to use a Monocredit to get rid of him.

Here, he calls Teruko out for her hypocrisy, directly pointing out that Teruko holds the same apathetic attitude that he displayed in Chapter 1. Beyond that, I think it goes without saying that both Charles and Teruko have displayed some majorly antagonistic qualities throughout the story. Both are intelligent, guarded, and a little sassy. When they banter, they’re able to trade similar insults.

Also, they both have a particular fondness for cacti.

Obviously, siblings do not need to have the same personality, especially if they didn’t even grow up together. I bring this up more to say that these are ways in which the author is intentionally drawing parallels between Teruko and Charles, showing us that they are similar and connecting them in our minds.

Now, let’s take a look at what we know of their backstories. As previously shown, Teruko was an orphan who lived at an orphanage with her brother. When she was five, her brother was adopted, and she was not. She had a pretty rough life after that, with “no family to speak of” while sneaking into schools to get an education, forced to choose between food and rent. Very unlucky, but not particularly relevant to this theory.

Charles’ life, on the other hand, seemed a lot easier.

Charles claims that both of his parents are alive. Additionally, while I don’t think it’s been confirmed, the fact that Charles doesn’t know how to cook or do his own laundry implies that either his parents are very caring and attentive to his needs, or he comes from a rich enough family that they have some sort of housekeeper to take care of their chores. My money is on the latter based on Charles’ overall demeanor, but that’s just speculation.

However, anyone who’s read Charles’ secret knows that his past wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

While Charles believed he had no siblings, in truth, he actually had a brother who died when he was young. Many characters, including Charles himself, also connect his forgotten past to his fear of blood and dead bodies. That means that whatever happened to his brother, it wasn’t pretty.

So, that’s great, right? Another similarity between Charles and Teruko: both of them have a brother! Except, really that’s more of a problem than anything. If Charles and Teruko are siblings, then Teruko should remember having two brothers, and Charles should believe he has a sister. However, there is a way to get out of this.

Here’s my proposed theory for Charles and Teruko’s intertwined backstories. Charles and Teruko Tawaki are born to the same parents, likely as twins, given that they appear to be in the same year in school. While it’s a little odd that Teruko only said she had a brother as opposed to a twin brother, it’s possible she doesn’t remember the details herself, as she doesn’t cite the brother as older or younger, either. Anyways, at some point, their parents die, and the two of them are sent to the orphanage.

Then, when Charles and Teruko are five, Charles is adopted by the Cuevas family– a mom, a dad, and an older brother. I can’t speculate as to exactly why the family would adopt only Charles and not Teruko, but considering that Teruko getting left behind is a canonical plot point no matter who her brother is, clearly the author believes it’s possible. Once Charles is adopted into the family, tragedy strikes, and his new older brother dies in a terribly bloody accident. This event forges Charles’ phobia of blood and bodies. And, in a desperate attempt to save itself, his brain wipes his memory of his older brother… as well as his adoption and his twin sister, too.

Even if Teruko seeing a dead body happened after she left the orphanage, it’s clear that her past was pretty bleak. Having your parents die and being sent to an orphanage at such a young age must have been a traumatic event. So, if Charles was already in the process of developing childhood amnesia about the trauma of his brother’s death, I think it’s possible that his brain could have decided to shut out the trauma of being adopted, too. It’s childhood amnesia. Obviously he didn’t forget enough of his childhood to concern him or tip himself off that something was wrong, but who has super crisp memories from age 5 or prior anyways? And, if Mr. and Mrs. Cuevas simply hadn’t chosen to tell their son that he was actually adopted (possibly for fear of triggering him by reminding him of his adopted older brother), Charles could grow up thinking he had an exceptionally normal childhood.

Thus, while it requires a bit of creative interpretation, I think it’s possible for Charles and Teruko’s backstories to fit together. And, once you clear Charles�� brother dying, the two of them never saw each other again until the killing game began, so anything that happens afterward can still fit under the siblings theory.

This includes their secrets, as well. While we don’t know Teruko’s secret, I’ve gone on the record saying that I believe that hers is “How could I even select what secret to make your motive? Just about everything you’ve done in your life is worth killing for. The killing game is all your fault”. This secret isn’t specific to one event, so Charles being her secret brother would still totally fit. It’s a little weird for Charles that they wouldn’t roll the other half of his forgotten siblings into the secret. But if they wanted to limit it to one secret per person for the sake of fairness (for instance, not having Whit’s secret be that he omits the death of his mother AND that he’s bisexual), I could see them cutting it out.

And that’s not even operating under the theory that Teruko could be the mastermind. In that case, she could have A) chosen to not talk about that secret because it mentions herself and her past, or B) not known it herself, and therefore not have been able to make it Charles’ secret.

From a meta writing perspective, I don’t know how the creator would tell us that Teruko and Charles are twins now that the secrets motive has passed, but I believe they could come up with something.

So, have I convinced you at all that it’s possible yet? I would hope at least slightly, if you’ve gotten to this point in the theory. Sadly, however, that means it’s time to discuss some of the… large potential holes in this theory that almost prevented me from writing it in the first place. Here we go.

Let’s go back to Charles and Teruko’s similar appearances, my “strongest point.” Well, Google tells me that the last name “Tawaki” is most commonly found in Japan, while “Cuevas” is Spanish in origin. Thus I, as well as likely many others, have assumed that Teruko is Japanese, and Charles is Hispanic. If Teruko and Charles are twins, that would mean that Charles’ ethnicity is actually Japanese, and he only gained the Hispanic last name “Cuevas” after being adopted by the Cuevas family. Through the magic of anime stylization, Charles and Teruko might look the same to us. But, in reality, if Charles was the only Asian looking member of a Hispanic family, wouldn’t it be pretty easy for him to realize/remember he was adopted?

While it’s a bit of an uninformed cop out, I did come up with a solution. If Charles and Teruko are both mixed race, specifically Asian/Hispanic, it’s possible nobody could have remembered. Charles could have been born a Tawaki, taking his Japanese parent’s last name, but when he was adopted, his Hispanic heritage amongst his new fully Hispanic family caused him to forget his Japanese roots. Like any child, some mixed race people look more like one parent (or therefore, one parent’s race) than the other. For example, as a mixed race person, I believe this is true of myself. I also think this is true of Whit, who appears to be Asian and white, but passes more as a white person.

(Obviously, it’s a little hard to tell exactly how white passing Whit is when he dyes his hair and we live in multicolored anime land, but the point stands.) So, this theory could be especially viable if Charles happened to look more like his Hispanic parent, while Teruko looked more like her Japanese parent.

Additionally, this could be a bold (mis?)characterization of the Cuevas family, but it is an explanation of why Charles could have been adopted while Teruko was not. If the Cuevas family was Hispanic, they may have wanted a child that “looked more like them,” so they only took the more Hispanic looking kid of the pair. If true, that would also potentially be another reason why Charles’ parents wouldn’t tell him he’s adopted.

For what it’s worth, I also do think Teruko is an American. While she was initially wearing a Japanese school uniform, and MonoTV confirmed she’s been to Japan, the fact that she “hasn’t been in years” makes me think that she currently lives in the US, where it really seems like the series is based. It would make sense if she now resides in the country in which she was born, and she’s never mentioned being a foreigner. She also speaks perfect English with no accent, which implies that she grew up in an English speaking country. If Charles is Teruko’s twin, and Teruko was born as an American, it would make it much easier for Charles to wind up in the United States.

Again, I don’t love this point, as it is extremely speculatory (what about this theory isn’t), but it is an answer. If Mr. Ultimate Chemist could take a DNA test for me real quick, that would be extremely helpful.

Point of contention #2: the existence of Charuko.

Speaking of which, please please please do not let this stupid theory stop you from shipping Charuko. There’s a 99.9% chance it is not true.

Anyways, Charuko is a big problem for this theory, given that I doubt the creator wants to incorporate incest into their story. While it obviously isn’t canon, Charuko is a decently popular ship, and that’s likely because of how their relationship is presented in the story. What was previously cited as sibling-like banter could easily be read as flirtatious teasing, and their similarities could be showing how compatible they are. But obviously, it could be totally platonic as well!

…Okay this is kind of a problem.

Even as more of a CharWhit enjoyer myself, I can’t deny that this is a particularly shippy moment. If you don’t recall, in this part of this scene Charles details how he likes talking to Teruko because she’s never pitied him, blushing all the while. The biggest blow to the theory is the sprite choice in this particular scene.

He has a version of this sprite with no blush. And yet, the creator chose to use the blushing version.

Now it is true that blushing can just be a sign of being flustered, which Charles often is. He could be embarrassed by merely complimenting Teruko at all, especially to her face. However, as any Owl House fan could tell you, blushing is often used as a shorthand for one character experiencing attraction to another. And, if Charles and Teruko are secretly siblings, I can’t understand why the creator would decide to imply the possibility that Charles could be crushing on Teruko. If the creator is a fan of… well, anything, they could probably expect that two of their most relevant characters have a possibility of being shipped together. They wouldn’t need to add any fuel to that fire– if anything, they would need to be throwing the firewood into the trash.

To be honest, I don’t really have much of a defense for this one. More than anything, this is what convinces me that this theory couldn’t be true. Really, all I can come up with is another example of something like this happening before, point at it, and say “if it happened there, it could happen here too.”

Said example is found in Star Wars, with Luke and Leia. At the end of the first movie, they kiss, but in the second movie, they learn that they’re actually twins, and cease romantic relations. Especially if this theory is true, I doubt Teruko and Charles would get to the point of sharing a kiss, but it would be a similar plotline to Star Wars.

Of course, I’m not the biggest Star Wars fan, but I’m pretty sure that when George Lucas wrote the first movie (in which Luke and Leia kiss), he didn’t know at the time that the characters were siblings. Meanwhile, if Charles and Teruko are twins, I would have to assume that it was in the creator’s plans the whole time, similar to Charles’ phobia of blood.

On that note of confidence, the final issue I could come up with: so what?

You’ve just spent 2.8k words+ trying to convince me that Charles and Teruko are siblings. Who cares? What does that actually have to do for the story? How would it ever become relevant?

Good points. Truly, I struggled with this myself. Like many others, I fear that Charles will die in Chapter 3 (after all, he was already pronounced dead at that time). And, given all the other drama that’s already going on with the other characters, and all the additional drama that the end of the second trial may cause, I wasn’t sure that a Charles/Teruko sibling reveal could really fit in that time. Even if Charles makes it past Chapter 3, I wasn’t sure how or why it would make sense for the story. But I did come up with a couple of ideas.

First of all, it could give Teruko another character to trust.

Charles is probably already the character that Teruko trusts the most (yes, even despite the above knife), but if she learned that he was her brother, she might feel even more connected to him. Or, she could pull a classic Teruko, and back even farther away from him in fear that she would come to trust him. At the very least, it would give Teruko an interesting dilemma. It would be interesting for Charles, too– he just learned he had a sibling that he lost, so how would he feel if he had a second sibling who was trapped in this killing game with him?

If Charles dies as an innocent victim, too, Teruko would have to face the loss of another person who’s important to her, but in a situation where he did absolutely nothing to betray her. This could happen even if Charles isn’t her brother, too, but I digress.

Secondly, it could force Teruko to talk about her past.

Given this scene, we know that there are aspects of Teruko’s past that she’s hiding from us, the audience inside her head. And, if she’s not telling us, then she definitely doesn’t want to tell other people.

But if Charles somehow learns that Teruko is his twin sister from a past he has no recollection of, after just receiving his dead brother secret, he would almost certainly want to start pressing her for answers. Although Teruko puts up a tough front, she has had moments of breaking down and showing “weakness” in the face of things that catch her off guard. It’s possible that if Charles genuinely came to her seeking answers about his own life, she would feel obligated to at least tell him something. And in that something, we could find some info relevant to the plot at large.

That is, if she actually knows anything about the situation. If she doesn’t and, say, MonoTV is the one who had to tell them about their siblinghood, part of Teruko’s backstory could also be rolled into the way that MonoTV would tell them that fact. That could be interesting, too, if Charles alone is privy to extra information about Teruko’s life beyond what happened when she was 5.

And, that’s about all that I have to say. As I’ve hinted at throughout this theory, despite being the one who came up with it, I really have my doubts that this theory is true. However, with the apparent lack of face blindness in this case, I can’t help but speculate as to how it could apply to something in the story in later chapters. I feel like I might be onto something, even if “Charles and Teruko secret siblings” isn’t it.

I would love to hear what anyone has to say to bust or support this theory, or if it inspires any other similar crack theories in its stead. Despair Time is a crazy enough series as is, so I wouldn’t be surprised if one of our shots in the dark makes it close to a target.

You talked about how special the 2022-2023 videos were in Shourtney context. The crazy thing (for me) is that one of the first - if not the first - Smosh videos I ever watched was the "double date" video, i.e., Guess Who? with Courtney, Shayne, Damien, and Saige. I didn't realize that it had two couples in it but I remember thinking that they seemed relaxed around each other and didn't aim for the typical "look at us, we're so hyped" energy that YT co-workers tend to have. Well, now I know why.

It was also an interesting introduction to Shourtney because in that video, they acted almost the opposite they act now (Courtney made edgy questions and didn't second-guess herself at all whereas Shayne had a more docile "just happy to be here" energy). It took me long time to realize that this video was more of an exception than a rule in the channel and general Smosh audience has a very different view of Shayne and Courtney. Admittedly, I sometimes miss this dynamic but having uncrazy Shayne and unsilly Courtney is probably not the best way to get views.

I feel that if I had started Smosh with videos from another year, my initial impression of Shourtney would be very different. For example, in Reacting to Courtney's Old Videos, they legitimately have more sibling energy than anything else. So in this sense, I'm not surprised that people used to have differing views of them. Their dynamic has def not stayed the same throughout the years, and once you make your first impression of someone, it's hard to shake it off.

PS. Talking about sibling energy: In general, I do agree that labelling close friends as siblings is equally bad - and sometimes worse - than shipping comments. I think in some specific cases it's ok (e.g., "Shayne messing up Courtney's answers was such an older brother move") but making comments like "they're literal siblings!" is a risky thing imo and not necessarily something cast members want to hear.

The twitch streams/videos was also kind of a weird era as well. I’ve seen SO many people say they hate those vids and didn’t like Saige. But from a Shourtney lover (me) those streams had so many incredible moments, especially the double dates between Shourtney and samien/daige(?) Idk their ship name lol. And it’s funny you say this bc I had a somewhat similar experience. I’ve been watching smosh since 2014/15 and I took a break sometime in 2021. When I came back in 2022, the twitch videos were I think one of the first content I watched as well. Watching it, I of course acknowledged the Shourtney moments but I took a bit of an interested to Damien and Saige. In my head I was like, “they would make a cute couple” and when I looked it the comments, people were confirming that they were indeed a couple. I also just enjoyed the dynamic between the 4 so I went on a binge of every vid with them in it lol.

And since I’ve been watching since around the time shourtney joined, I never realized that if you started with different eras, you’re view of them would be completely different. Each year I’d say their dynamic changed so much.

Now that you’ve explained the sibling energy thing, I guess it isn’t as bad as I thought. I think I just mainly found it weird since I would see on comments of videos where shourtney was actually dating and it weirded me out.

Hey, uh, I have an Oc that is a vet (surgeon more specifically) but I don’t really know about how they should act about it or the experiences so, do you have any advice on that front?

Like, I just take more example from doctors, my mother and brother are and they are both very, uh, (￣︿￣) about it.

Like they tell stories and experiences constantly when we are eating, like how my mother saved a kid that got shot point blank in the head (kids are very resilient like holy fuck), my brother is studying still but he already has a few experiences and such. So I take more note that those in medicine are just very not overreactive to emergency situations.

But that is just human vets, which humans can be very crazy but it’s very different from animals.

So I would like to know if vets are also like that? Just “Emergency? Okay let’s start” and have many things under control.

Also what are your crazy vet student experiences?

Alright! So! First! I mainly did paperwork while interning. I only went with boss a few times as an extra set of hands for graphing, and I am not interning anymore because of summer vacation (I only actually interned last semester to be honest, cause I needed to focus on class work this last semester)

Never take a vet to polite dinner, we WILL just start talking about the grossest things while casually eating. Being in the medical field, you need a strong stomach, so sometimes we forget not everyone wants to hear about us looking through poop to find worms or giving a cow an enema. We’re DISGUSTING. We regularly deal with being covered in fluids all day cause we don’t have time for a shower! Got another appointment in ten minutes!

Vets also have STRONG opinions on different animals, though they don’t all match up. I would rather shoot myself in the leg than deal with another racehorse again, but my boss adores horses! That being said, dogs tend to fall in similar categories on breeds, every husky I’ve ever met has ripped their catheter out, and every pug has been a screaming diva.

Some of the shared opinions are cats have the best names, bird owners are their own breed, no dog owner truly knows how much of a devil their dog is, cows are inherently stupid, and horses would murder you for one corn chip.

Now, I am not interning right now as summer has started, and it was for a class, but vets are very busy during spring, fall, and every single full moon. Nobody knows what happens but animals get weird every full moon! Summer tends to fluctuate depending on the type of vet you are. Surgeons probably wouldn’t see as much of a increase vs farm vet (which is what I’m going for). Most surgery’s are scheduled, but there are emergency surgeries sometimes needed. Which leads to my next point.

I was never apart of any emergency situations since I’m still learning, but I have seen my boss just FULL SPRINT across the clinic, and I was told to take care of the front. (The dog was okay for anyone wondering, she had an emergency c section and all puppies were okay!) the only close to an emergency was a sudden seizure someone’s goat had, not a fainting goat, she had milk fever. That was very much « work mode » while also trying to stay compassionate to the owner and animal. I bet working in back with an emergency would be similar to how medical professionals might feel, but if the owner is there you have to make sure to put up a brave front.

It’s different from being a medical doctor as owners are such a big part of the job, your bedside manner has to be amazing! I’ve wanted to strangle owners for neglect, hug them during last visits, or just stare confused at them for saying the DUMBEST things (DOGS AND CATS A CARNIVORES I SWEAR TO HIGH HEAVEN!) and find a balance between brutal honesty, and softness during rough times. If your dog will probably die, I’m gonna tell you that, but I’ll give options.

Another thing is while many animals COULD live through last injuries, such as broken jaws, rarely do owners have the time or resources to heal their pet to a point of actually living vs surviving. Is it possible? Yes. But rarely feasible. Sometimes it’s better to let your pet go, take a few days if you can to give them the best time ever, feed them chocolate before the visit, and give lots of good boy/girl kisses.

Lastly, farm vets look less at keeping animals super comfortable vs fixing the problem as fast as possible. Obviously we do avoid putting animals in pain, but sometimes you have to yank a tooth, or disinfect a wound right then and there. It’s a delicate balance of caring for the animal, and understanding that farmers need cheap but long term results for their own livelihood.

Look up vetblr here as that has a lot more, actually trained, graduated and qualified individuals than me. The biggest thing is for vets, you live and breathe animals. You aren’t paid that well, school is expensive, it is taxing on your body, and mentally and emotionally exhausting. Hell, half the vets I know will take money out of their own pockets to lower costs for surgeries needed for pets! It’s HARD, and I personally suggest looking at other animal based careers for something to fall back on. (Also, I hate petstores! May they all burn!)

Something came to me while reading your PactOfIcen'Fire meta, did someone thought to compare Jace and Sara to Rhaegar and Lyanna? I haven't read many things about Jace and Sara tbh so if they did I'm sorry for repeating it 😅

And not only that but i couldn't ignore but note that Serena and Edric..don't we have an Edric in the main books who's a bastard? I think is intentional to have named him like the Edric Storm in the main series

I'm so sorry anon, I meant to answer this like a straight month ago but tumblr glitched and didn't post it and I didn't even realize :((((

ANYWAYS. I have seen people compare them in the past wrt the pact, yes! there’s two comparisons here that are made between the two couples. there's the argument that jon himself fulfills the pact because he’s the son of a targaryen prince (rhaegar/jacaerys) and a stark daughter (lyanna/sara), and I’ve seen people refer to jace/sara as a proto rhael/ya. then there's the other comparison, where it's pointed out the pact is about a targaryen fostering at winterfell, not just wedding a stark. if you search “rhaegar pact” or "jacaerys lyanna" (search, not a specific tag, fyi) you’ll get all sorts of fun thoughts, but some of my faves are stumpy and starkcontrasts.

I do think there's a lot of parallels and anti parallels between the two couples, and I think those parallels are mmeant to catch our attention while the anti parallels are meant to make us think a little deeper about the context surrounding both couples. I'm bulletting this because it helps me organize my thoughts more clearly.

Similarities between Jacaerys/Sara and Rhaegar/Lyanna:

both couples expect to have a daughter - he daughter of Jacaerys and Sara was supposed to marry Edric Stark in order to tie the houses together, and Rhaegar expected Lyanna to have a daughter not a son (Visenya Snow truthers rise)

a kind of, "oh those crazy kids" vibe from both couples - Rhaegar and Jacaerys both spurning another woman (Elia/Baela) for a Stark maiden and eloping with her

Rhaegar and Jacaerys have minimal input in the wars they are involved in- Jacaerys because he dies early on and Rhaegar because he spends most of the war holed up at the Tower of Joy

Lyanna and Jacaerys are around the same age when their lives get upended - both are only 16 when they die. Very notable to me that Jon Snow is also only 16 when he "dies" in ADWD

Both Baela and Elia are quite beloved by their Houses. You could write pages of meta about Elia's effect on the plot and meanwhile Baela is her father's favorite, one of the last dragon riders, one of the only dragon riders to hit the ground with her dragon and live to tell the story (even if Aegon hadn't been murdered, it seems likely his injuries would have eventually killed him. man is fucked up by his burns and legs, whereas Baela recovers comparitively quickly), marries the heir to House Velaryon, and remains a staple at her half brothers courts for a very long time. AND both women experience infidelity in their marriages - not just the Jacaerys/Sara thing, but Alyn's affairs!

Mysteries surrounding the endings of these relationships - there's the obvious r+l=j thing and the fact that no one knows what the hell Rhaegar was up to during most of the war, but there's also the mystery surrounding Vermax laying a clutch of dragon eggs in the crypts of Winterfell and the baby metaphor here that Jacaerys stays long enough to leave a "child" with Sara just as Rhaegar stays long enough to leave a child with Lyanna.

Differences between Jacaerys/Sara and Rhaegar/Lyanna

the JS daughter is meant to solidify an alliance between the Targaryens/Iron Throne and the Starks/North, while Rhaegar is not interested in making an alliance, he is interested in his prophecy and his third head of the dragon

I think it's very relevant here that Jon is the same age as his mother and Jacaerys in ADWD - this is, imo, the key here that Jon does not fulfill the pact with his birth, but will be involved in the pact himself

Jacaerys and Baela are not actually married when he elopes with Sara Snow, while Rhaegar is not just married but has children with Elia

Mysterious surrounding the ending of the relationships - this goes in differences too because there is in fact a difference between an egg and a literal baby, lmao. This seems to me a pretty clear r+l=j hint, that jacaerys/vermax leaves a ~secret dragon~ with the starks, and jon is a secret dragon that Ned brings to Winterfell

What the hell does all of this mean? Well, I mean, your guess is as good as mine anon, lmao, but EYE think JS is meant to be another r+l=j hint, possibly a hint about the ultimate fate of dany's three dragons (don't ask me what, i have no idea), and an indicator for what jon's ultimate fate is - not as another Jacaerys/Rhaegar parallel but instead serving as the stand in for Jacaerys and Sara's daughter, who fosters at Winterfell and marries the Stark Heir.

Now to the second part!! Edric is a fairly common name but I have always wondered about comparisons between Edric’s so you’re not alone there!! I had originally wondered if Edric Storm and Edric Dayne had perhaps been meant to interact at some point and have larger roles, bc both touch on legitimacy issues (little Ned Dayne repeats the Wylla lie to Arya) and they both feel kinda set up to have had bigger story lines and are relatively isolated at the end of asos the way the starks are (to let them age). There’s actually lots of theories about little Ned Dayne specifically and his relationship with Arya, Ashara, and how he’s connected to the Tower of Joy storyline, and his connection to all that, plus his name connection to Edric Storm AND Serena's Edrics IS a fun one. It could mean nothing predictions wise, just George writing on a pattern. I recommend this meta here for some Targaryen naming patterns and how Rhaegar fits into all the typically feminine Rhae names. I think this is something similar to that - if an Edric shows up, it means the succession is about to involve a lot of bastards and usurpation and mystery!

The main weird thing about this part of the timeline (besides Rickon's daughters being usurped, #JusticeForSansaAndSerena) is The Edric Of It All. Rickon dies before Cregan, and instead of Winterfell passing to Sansa, it passes to the next son, Jonnel (exactly the way the Aemon, Rhaenys, and Baelon situation goes). But when Jonnel dies without issue, Winterfell skips over Edric and Serena's children, because Edric died before Jonnel, and goes straight to Barthogan, then Brandon and his son Rodwell. This despite the fact that Serena and Edric have two sons of their own: Cregard and Torrhen (and aren't those some incredibly pointed names, just like Aemon naming Rhaenys after a conqueror!). I think when Sansa died, and then Jonnel remarried, Jonnel likely considered Edric his heir. I think what happens here is that Jonnel justifies his usurption by saying that since Rickon died before Cregan, his line should just be skipped entirely and go to the back of succession, and that all the living sons of Cregan should come first. But when Edric dies, Jonnel & probably Barthogan use this justification again by saying that since Edric is dead, his whole line goes to the end, and it goes to the next son, Barthogan. Maybe they even felt a bit guilty about skipping Cregard and Torrhen but they have to stick with this justification in order to keep their own place in the succession ahead of Sansa and Serena, the same way Viserys would never straight up say "the GC was wrong" because it would put his own claim at risk, or the way Aegon III is never able to change the line to say he descends from Rhaenyra because it would piss off the greens. So you have, in a strange way, Edric being usurped by his own brothers, just as Sansa and Serena are usurped (and maybe forcibly married) by their own uncles.

What's even more fun here, in addition to all the nonsense surrounding succession, a JS couple, and an Edric is that like I said, we have Edric Storm tied to legitimacy, Edric Dayne tied to the Tower of Joy plot, and...Edric Stark's brother, Brandon, the child of Lynara Stark who finally has kids who inherit, has a bastard of his own, Lonnel Snow! Just a coincidence, and George writing on a pattern? Again, yeah, maybe, probably, but there is some chatter regarding both Lonnel and Edric's possible descendants including that perhaps House Cassel is a descendants house of one of the two. idk but it's interesting!!

Thoughts and Observations From The Movie, Part 2/4

Welcome to part two of the silly things and fun details I picked out from the Rise movie!

My sister and I often pause the movie here to reread the options on this whiteboard for destroying the key, and it never fails to make us laugh. My one question: when and how did they test Donnie’s stomach? He wasn’t even there!

Also, feels like a callback to TummyTello, somehow. It also leaves me wondering why Donnie’s Stomach was an actual idea for destruction, regardless of whether it involves TummyTello. Guy must eat some crazy stuff XD

“So… You’re Running Out of Ideas.” by Syr E. Piphany.

Okay, okay, bear with me- I actually have a little theory for this one. This is a screenshot from when Leo asks Donnie to locate Raph. Donnie tells him that Raph is practically- and then that he actually IS- on top of them. What I noticed here is that on this visual locator he has, none of the little character icons are oriented the same way their real life counterparts are. All six characters are in the same area and standing pretty close to each other, and I would assume that, kinda like google location sharing or snapchat location maps, you have to zoom in further on the map to get more specific locations.

This kinda sounds like it’s going nowhere, but what I’m getting at is the idea that when multiple people are in the same location, given that we know the icons will not be oriented perfectly to the people they represent, they’ll probably appear in the same orientation every time.

Which would mean!! that Donnie has intentionally designed his tracker app to have icons show up with this orientation when people are close together, furthermore meaning that he chose to put his big brother in the center of them all on purpose. As an artist myself, this could be coincidental, but very rarely are things like this done without purpose, and I like to imagine it’s a subtle way to represent Donnie thinking the absolute world of his big brother; that he would turn to Raph for guidance even before Splinter, whose icon is on the other side of the circle from Donnie’s.

I also love that the icons for Donnie’s best friend and Donnie’s “twin” are on either side of his.

And, as one last afterthought, I think this could also be a subtle nod to how Raph’s krangification becomes the center of the story and main motivator for all the characters for a huge chunk of the movie.

Does ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS?????

That absolutely looks like a masked face in the biogrowth at the top of this building. In truth, it actually looks a lot more like one of the paper ninjas than it does the Shredder, but the similarities are still there, and it works as further evidence that the Shredder and the goals of the Foot Clan were all hinged around the Krang.

Is anyone else floored by the size of this skull that Krang 1 or whatever is sitting on? I always would forget about it pretty immediately given Leo’s cheeky “surprise!” here, but this thing looks like the head of a freakin’ dragon or something. I wonder what it is? And how it got to, let alone died in, the technodrome.

One genuinely non-serious theory my sister and I occasionally talk about is the idea that the technodrome is actually a massive egg, and this was the incomplete embryo of whatever it would have become. Further non-serious evidence, which can be seen in the next images, is that the technodrome, in spite of being extremely technologically advanced, is clearly… alive, not just pure tech. Actually, everything the Krang use seems to be bio-mechanical in nature, to some degree.

It will probably be made pretty clear here that Donnie is my favourite character, just a fair warning XD But man I love this scene- one, because of the Autism-ADHD solidarity shown between PB&J immediately previous, and, two, because it’s actually a seriously incredible show of strength from Donnie.

Many fans of Rise, and of Donnie especially, also have Autism (like Donnie is confirmed to have) and/or ADHD (including myself) and understand that sensory issues mixed with New Things You Don’t Understand can be absolute hell. Like, ruins your day, renders you inactive, unfocused, nonverbal, made to be a shaking ball of anxiety, hell. Not always, but the point still stands.

Additionally, and as much as I am all for Donnie’s softshell not being seen as a big weakness because it’s natural and still more protection than any normal person has (not to mention the advantages it offers him in terms of swimming and flexibility (also probably feels really nice for scritches and sleep piles)), it actually does seem a relevant point here that this is, technically speaking, the most vulnerable part of Donnie’s body. So actively choosing to expose it to an unfamiliar and highly advanced, invasive and living technology on top of the difficulties that come with the above described neurodivergent tendencies goes against his nature in so, so many ways, but he does it anyway.

Mikey being worried about his vulnerability here, in spite of feeling out of place before, makes a lot more sense from this perspective. Knowing all that, honestly-- it just never fails to impress me.

The hands in the new kimisute mvs. It got long so Under the cut

Argonavis: all of their hands together . Yeah this one’s obvious you know argonavis they love each other they’re a group of solid friends chasing a dream We knew this

Gyroaxia: actually this surprised me upon my first watch of All my parts. I wasn’t able to include the in-between frame of Nayuta’s hands lowering and the flame flickering out but it’s obvious in the next one that the rest of Gyroaxia makes the flame way bigger and brighter. It is rare to have a Gyroaxia song in which Nayuta is not only self reflective rather than self aggrandizing but where the MV acknowledges Gyroaxia as his equals rather than his followers . I would hope this signals a more emotional arc for Gyroaxia in Kimisute but you never know. They could be lying . This song and imagery was a pleasant surprise

Fujin RIZING: Futa’s dead brother blues. I didn’t include the shot with his hand to the sky with the dates floating down but I assume that refers to 1) the day that sakutaro died 2) the way time stopped then for all of them and marked the beginning of Kohei Despair and 3) the passage of time since then. We’ve already gotten pointers telling us that furai’s gonna be more introspective and sad and that Futa’s not doing too well for kimisute so I look forward to their new stuff. Hoping for more songs like Longing

Fantôme Iris: alright so I am not well versed in fantome iris lore and they do not have a story that you can understand relatively quickly like Furai . So I really don’t know what the fuck is happening with them at any point even though I love them. However I do know that this is a shot of Felix’s hand being a ray of light in the darkness, beckoning in the viewing to take it and see a new world. This, to me , is about how they’re finally on a upward trajectory as a band and how they finally have an agency and how TOMORU FINALLY HAS A GOOD JOB and all that. I like fantome iris I hope for good things in their future.

ST//RAYRIDE: I don’t like how they stylized their name. Anyways. First one is about Rintaro’s band breaking up and later just him and Ryuusuke. It being a gemstone similar to argonavis being a gemstone in their mv means that band probably meant a lot to him. The shot of Ryuusuke holding his hand up to the sky is probably about trying to reach a dream related to music however they haven’t released any stst content yet so idk what the specifics are. Them holding hands? They’re gay. They’re married okay. They’re married to each other

Epsilon: probably the most interesting and I definitely don’t think that because epsilon is my favorite band in kimisute. Anyways. This one raises many questions because, from what I can tell, it’s the only hand that refers to someone’s individual feelings rather than something that can be applied to the entire band. Futa’s past & lone hand is something that affects all of Furai, and Felix beckoning in a new age for Fantome Iris applies to all of them, he just happens to be their leader, but this hand is Haruka’s, and Haruka’s alone. I assume that this is referring to Haruka’s decision to accept Shu and the band’s twisted sound to try and achieve his dream of truly reaching people no matter how he really feels about everyone…..the shot of his eye afterwards was pretty ominous. I could go back on what I just said about using the band for ulterior motives and apply it to everyone though, like Reiji’s new motivation to protect Shu, Kanata’s insane obsession over Haruka, Tadaomi’s, erm, human observation, and Shu’s desire to be seen…..however I just think it matters the most when it’s Haruka. Because of how he’s abandoning his apathy and choosing a straight path for himself instead of letting himself be taken by the flow of the people around him. IDK. I love epsilon phi I hope some insane crazy shit happens in Kimisute and I hope Kanata attempts suicide and I hope Tadaomi and Reiji have a beautiful toxic yaoi romance

everyday eating sand over the fact you could make the tag Viren Tries His Best (it's really the worst for everyone involved) and it's the most canon thing one could say about him :)

Hi anon! Yeah I feel like. I keep seeing rly Extreme views of Viren when even though he is a villain, there's nuance there and a lot of people find him sympathetic, yet he is still a Villain. He planned a coup and tried to get the rightful heirs to the throne killed aka his best friend's children. I sfysuegfkwgfkugwefy

He's a great example of everyone thinking they're the hero of their own story. I think the novels especially let people see/confirm what's going on inside his mind. I don't agree with him on many things, but I understand how he got where he did and that's what makes him compelling to me. The way someone both so driven by a personal sense of justice and who has a calculating nature can still make so many mistakes is really interesting.

When Zubeia talks about Aaravos preying on human mages, "...people who had strong minds, and strong hearts, but who had an insatiable thirst, and fascination with magic" the camera panned to Callum but that was also word for word about Viren. Callum and Viren are so similar and the lines drawn between the positions they have had as high mage and as brother either literally or "like" a brother to their king is setting them up to have an even more prominent foil as the show goes on.

So I often find myself torn between the "Viren is an unsympathetic demon who also hates his family" crowd vs the "Viren should have been the show's protag and he's a better man than Harrow and the show has just done him Dirty by portraying his actions as wrong" crowd because I don't think either is correct LMAO.

Viren gets a full heroic cycle and he is a compelling character but like sergbeylgrfyeh it's fine to not have binary opinions, it's what the show is going for, I believe, to have things be complicated/hard to swallow given all of the trolley problems TDP poses, and it's not smth I see a lot of good faith engagement abt in general.

Like I think it's fine to not like Viren, but ppl don't have to throw canon out the window/make him worse to justify it. Feelings about fictional characters don't have to be justified or morally "correct" and idk, it's probably not specifically tdp as much as that is a Fandom struggle at large

🤚 non-religious person question over here lol. when you say you read the Bible every day, is there a specific section you read? or do you go start to finish? or something else? I'm so curious!

hi hi!!! okay so, the Bible is comprised of 66 “books” — the one you’ve probably heard of the most is Genesis, which is the first one. it’s also split into two halves, the Old Testament and the New Testament. this is just a division of when the writings were first recorded. i won’t tell you how many years are between the two halves because i don’t want to say wrong, but it’s at least a few hundred.

lots of people do just read cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation, but that definitely would take some time. i’ve only recently (since august maybe?) gotten more into reading the Bible daily, and for now i’ve just been following my curiosity. I started with the four gospel books: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. these are the four accounts of Jesus’ life! also the first four books of the New Testament. (this is because Jesus IS the new covenant — He fulfills the prophecies of the Old Testament!) after i read those four, i read the next book after them, called Acts. it’s kind of a fun book because it’s like, “okay so Jesus died and rose again, what did everyone do after???” and it’s kind of how the Church got started, and lots of people going ALL OVER the middle east and africa and asia to tell people about Jesus! it’s a very adventurous book. shipwrecks and all!

THEN i decided to hop back to the Old Testament. I first read the book of Daniel, who was a prophet in the 6th century B.C. he had CRAZY dreams, like truly wild. but they prophesied not only the future of the kingdoms of the middle east, but the coming Messiah (Jesus!) as well! over 500 years before he came !! anyway, CURRENTLY i’ve been reading even further back in history, in the 900s B.C., the successive reigns of king Saul, king David, king Solomon, and i just got to his son, king Rehoboam. (and also king Jeroboam, they’re both kings of different tribes of israel. it’s gotten quite messy!) (also no they are not brothers. they just have very similar names.) these records are found in the books of 1 & 2 Samuel (said aloud like “first and second Samuel) and 1 & 2 Kings. a good handful of books are split in two like that (one of them is in 3 parts!) for either length- or time-reasons.

okay, so now that i’ve said all that, the simple answer is i currently read about two chapters a day, one chapter in the morning and one at night. sometimes i’ll add another if i have extra time or a chapter was kinda short. i’m in the middle of 1 Kings! Samuel and Kings are truly so fun. it’s like a MOVIE. so much royal drama !! i keep thinking how cool it would be to see the accounts of this time in like the format of a period drama haha. but yeah ! just kind of wanted to read through that because David and Solomon are such prominent guys. David wrote *most of* the Psalms, another book you’ve maybe heard of. and Solomon wrote a couple Psalms but also wrote the books of Proverbs, Song of Solomon, and Ecclesiastes. these are all also in the Old Testament!

i think when i finish 2 Kings, i’ll probably hop back to the New Testament for a bit. pretty much all of those books are letters! a lot of them were written by Paul, who, fun fact, was an absolute hater of the Christians, and was killing them!! but then Jesus called him and he turned his whole life around, and ended up becoming a very prominent and wise Christian himself! but there are other authors as well. the books of James and Jude were written by two of Jesus’ brothers from when He was on earth! kinda cool :] all of it was inspired by God, they were just the scribes. most of the letters were to other places, helping them learn how to live for Christ, and explaining and professing His love and the promise of salvation for all those who trust in Him!

4/3/2023 DAB Chronological Transcription

Judges 10-12

Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible Chronological, I'm China. Today is the third day of April, welcome. It is so great to be back here with you today reading the word of the Lord to you and with you. So today we are this whole week is Holy Week, but today is Monday, it's day two of Holy Week and this is the day that Jesus clears the temple. And so yeah, just kind of a recap because we're in the Old Testament, this isn't part of the reading plan today but want to steward our hearts in, for this week. And so Jesus yesterday was, he enters into Jerusalem on a colt and they are declaring hosanna, hosanna in the highest. And so the next day he returns with his disciples to Jerusalem and he arrives at the temple and he finds that the courts are full of money changers. He begins overturning their tables, clearing the temple and he tells them, my temple will be a house of prayer, but you have turned it into a den of thieves or den of robbers. And then Jesus makes his way to Bethany. And so these are some of the scriptures that you can read again because they're in the Gospels. You can read a few of them and get different details that were kind of like the same repeated things, but scriptures that you can read for today's story where we are in Holy Week, you can read Matthew 21:12 through 22, Mark 11:15 through 19, Luke 19:45 through 48, and John 2:13 through 17. So that's where we are in the week of Holy Week right now. But today we are continuing the book of Judges with chapters ten through twelve. And we are in God's Word Translation for this week.

Commentary

Kind of a crazy story mixed with some sadness in it for sure. Again, kind of like I was saying yesterday, within Judges we read about scripturally speaking, we kind of go through them quickly. But with the first judge we read about today, he served for 23 years and the next one served for 22 years. So that's 55 years. Obviously that's not fast, but we're reading scripturally and they're kind of going through them and I believe it's because we want to know the leaders and what they were doing and the family line of it. And then we'll kind of like pause and stop and elaborate on this specific family and what was going on, the dynamic and just some crazy stuff happens. Jephthah has kind of has a crazy story that somewhat resembles or at least just reminds me of the story of Joseph now, not entirely, but here's the similarities. So he's born one of many sons. We don't see necessarily how many, it just says sons. So we know like plural, right? There's more than one. And the brothers are jealous. I don't know if there's jealousy actually, but it's more so of you're, the son of that other woman, right? And we know that with Jacob, sorry, Joseph, he was the son of Rachel, not Leah. And all of Leah's sons hated Rachel's son just because of some things that had already happened in their family line and it was just continuing to be passed on. Anyways, so he gets thrown out and then later on there's war and they're like, actually can you go get Jephthah? And they're like, hey, can you come be our commander so we can wage war against Simon? And he's like, you hated me and you throw me out of my father's house, so why are you coming to me now? So kind of the similarity where they throw him out and then they're actually in need of him, those are the kind of the similarities that wait, this feels very mirroring of the story that we read not that long ago. But anyways, that's kind of like all the similarities that are there. But anyways, so Jephthah is like, if you take me back and fight against the Ammonites the Lords gives me to them, then I'll be your leader. Kind of like if I know that the Lord is using me, if the Lord gives these people over to me, then yeah, sure, I'll be your leader. And so the Lord is a witness between us. The leaders say to Jephthah and then Jephthah goes with them and they make him their leader and commander. And then there's these messages that get sent from Jephthah to the King of Aman. And basically, long story short, what happens there is the king is like, I'm not listening to you. This isn't happening, what you're asking for. No, not doing this. And then the spirit of the Lord came over Jephthah and so he did the things that he was saying, this is what I'm going to do. And then he asks the Lord, hey, if you will really hand them on over to me, whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when I return safely from a model belong to the Lord, I'll sacrifice as a burnt offering, which I'm like. I don't know what he thought was going to come out there. Maybe this is a different way of living than what we do now. Like maybe livestock is in his house. And he was like, yeah, maybe if a bird flies out or a lamb comes out or a chicken. I don't know what he was thinking, or a slave, or if he had a wife or concubine that he didn't like. But if you're going to say that, you have to consider everything that's in your household. And I don't know if he did that or if he considered it and was just like, I don't know. I truly do not know his mindset in that aspect. But if I was going to say, I will give you a bird sacrifice whatever comes out of my house, I would make sure nobody's home and make sure it was, like, a cat that I didn't really own or something. But I guess then that really wouldn't be a sacrifice because it wouldn't mean anything anyways. But I'm also just like, the Lord has shown you that he's with you, so why are you making this deal with the Lord? Like, he's already shown you he's with you. It's already proven. And so the Lord shows up, does exactly what Ephraim says, and then he goes home, and he sees what comes out of his door, and he's immediately grieved. And what's interesting is he's not like, oh, man, gosh. Like, I shouldn't have done this. He tells his daughter, like, oh, you've brought disaster on me. Listen, she didn't know what was happening. She didn't make this foolish agreement, foolish promise to the Lord. Now that he's like, those are his words. But her response is, you've made a promise to the Lord. You got to do it, but let me go away for two months to the mountains. I'm like, Listen, girl, you don't have to come back. But she did. And a burnt sacrifice, like, you don't have to put two and two together to know what happens to her. Awful. And so it's just devastating, too, not only his only daughter, but his only child. And so, gosh, it's so hard to read those types of things. But for me, I'm like, okay, maybe there's more to this contextually that I'm not picking up on or more to the culture, but I'm like, the Lord was already with you. He already showed you that he was with you many times, so why did you feel like you needed to ask Him, hey, if you're truly going to do this, then this is what I'll do. But again, maybe there's more that I don't super understand there.

Prayer

But Lord, I thank you that you are a God who is faithful to his people. And, Lord, I pray that we would recognize that throughout all the generations, throughout all of the Bible, we see Your faithfulness, and we see Your people turning to you and turning from you and calling out when they're in need, willing to repent. But then, as things feel more mundane throwing it out and choosing something else, so I pray, God, that whether we are on the valley or the hilltop or the plateau, that we would recognize that we're in need of a savior, and not just because we need saving from this one thing. We need to be saved. And I thank you that made a way for that to happen. And I just pray that, that would really resonate deep in our hearts today and forevermore, that we all are in need of a Savior, and we can't do it alone. We can't do it apart or outside of you. And I pray that we wouldn't even desire to do that, but that we would desire to be close to you, and it's in your name we pray, amen.

And I wanted to confess a sin to you that I hadn't been really living for the Lord. I had been eating things I wanted that I shouldn't have. And I needed to repent. I need to repent to all of you there and to my granddaughter for sins that I have committed, I ask your forgiveness. I ask for your prayers. I ask that I would be like Joshua when he said, as for me, in my house, we will serve the Lord. And so I found that I am weak. But also the word says when I'm weak, then I am strong. She made the decision to walk away from the faith and is now part of the Muslim community and is leading her daughter down that path. And you'll just it breaks my heart. There are so many times where God tells us to do or to go or to be, and we don't listen. We think we have all the answers. I wake up in the morning and I say, God, you take the reins, lead me, guide me, mold me, show me. And then I look at my calendar and my schedule for the day, and if it's within his name, His Word, what he thinks I should do, then I follow it. And I'm so thankful that you reminded me today that, yes, sometimes lots of times I fall short and I don't follow his direction and everything comes out terrible. So thank you, Jill. I love you guys. It's a very good identity to meditate on. You are his songbird. It's so sweet. So my prayer for you is that the Lord would show you the root of your anger, whether it's fear or frustration, what it is, the thing that's causing you to be angry. And I pray that you would give that to the Lord and find a deep freedom. Sometimes when we go through different things, god, like an onion, pulls away our sin and gives us greater sanctification. So don't be discouraged that you're struggling with something that you've struggled with before. Just trust the Lord that he has deeper healing for you, and he wants. To root out the root of that thing, and he wants you to be his little songbird and to be free, to be free in his love, because he delights in you. And he's not upset with you, and he's not afraid of what's going to happen. He's right there with you. So God bless.

can i ask what is kinyarn 😭

I think it's about time I explained Kin-Yarn to the new generation instead of jokingly brushing it off and making people do their own research.

Please note I will be spelling Kin-Yarn with the hyphen, as god (me) intended. Kinyarn is still hella valid and the more commonly used name. I also wont be going into my interpretations too much since it's complicated and long i do not actually ship it i promise.

Kin-Yarn is the greatest Kirby ship of all time. It's the ship between Yin-Yarn from Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Kine the fish from hell. There isn't anything canon for it, these characters have never and will never interact in HAL's eyes. However we, the fans, know better.

After reading my thesis I'd strongly recommend checking out all of the content the long dead kin-yarn fandom has to offer. Most of it is like, really old, since those around for Kin-Yarn's inception have either left tumblr, moved onto new and cooler fandoms, or don't think it's that funny anymore. (It isn't because it's a fandom in-joke from two years ago.) Thankfully there are many great relics of the past, of the days when new Kin-Yarn content showed up every like five posts on your dash. AO3 has most of the Kin-Yarn fanfiction that's been written, but some of it is hidden away within blog archives and dusty links to google docs. Kin-Yarn videos also exist, including some (two) AMVs and the classic Kin-Yarn ASMR made by yours truly. The Kin-yarn/Kinyarn tag on tumblr.com also has a lot of posts so just go through that.

I. HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Kin-Yarn was made at some point in October 2020. Out there on the internet there is a site called FanficMaker. It's a pretty basic website. I don't know exactly how the creators found the material to make this, but there is a okay-ish sized pool of sets.

These sets are fairly generic stories, with the program plugging in the names of characters you input into specific slots. There's a surprising amount of variation between these sets, but after you play with the site too long you start seeing the same ones over and over.

So Voiddemon a few years ago found this website, and decided to make some fanfiction and upload it to tumblr.com. On one occasion, the website generated the sentence "It was Yin-Yarns gay wedding party..." It didn't say who he was marrying, but I found it funny and uploaded it to tumblr.com. On a separate day, in a separate prompt, I put Kine in and it gave me a similar result. "Meanwhile, Susies mind was wondered back to the past. It was Kines gay wedding party..." I also found this funny because. Kine. And uploaded it to tumblr.com.

I will now introduce Ninikins (Who has since changed their username and moved on from the Kirby fandom), who suggested that the two of them were getting married to each other. Everyone in my circle online at the time found the idea hilarious because.

From here everyone went crazy and just started. Kin-yarning all over the place.

II. Fan Interpretations

Memetaknight, creator of the greatest Kin-yarn fanfiction of all time Yiracle (It's my favorite :shrug:) created a Kin-Yarn Essay. Today it is a great time capsule that brings us into the culture around Kin-yarn in the past. It's just over two years old now so happy birthday Kin-Yarn essay. It delves into the two primary interpretations around the ship. I'll just quote the most important bits of it since I'm lazy you can go check my sources ok.

"A common Kin-Yarn characterization is to ship either both brothers with Kine (as a V shape relationship), or just one of the brothers with Kine... This interpretation has many specific tropes... but it has one extremely interesting idea that is unique to it. In the spirit of Kirby’s Epic Yarn’s final battle... it has been theorized that something similar could apply to Kin-Yarn, in which the brothers would catfish Kine .. Kine, either on purpose or on accident."

"The other interpretation sees the yarn body previously mentioned as a third entity... which is referred as Yin-Yarn separate from the needle brothers. This characterization idea arises from the fact Yin-Yarn is referred as a singular character"

There is a third interpretation that stems from the two of these, which is that both the Yarn Body or puppet is in love with Kine and so is at least one of the knitting needles.

Often in Kin-Yarn works, it is unclear which one of these the creator interprets the ship as, since artwork and fics include all three characters (The puppet and the two needles) with no clear distinction between them. A distinction being drawn is more commonly in artwork, due to the nature of the medium.

III. Love and Marriage

For the most part, Kin-Yarn is portrayed as a perfect relationship. With Kine and Yin-Yarn being madly in love. The nature of one being a hero and another being a villain is not often explored, but when it is explored the most common interpretation is Kine accepts Yin-Yarn despite his past wrongdoings. Oftentimes Yin-Yarn will reform and become good for Kine.

III A. Who are Prince Fluff's Parents?

Prince Fluff (Also from Kirby's Epic Yarn) has no stated or seen parents within the series. Originally KEY was called "Keito no Fluff", and featured Prince Fluff himself as the protagonist. He was supposed to be searching for his mother, but this was removed from KEY so he has. No parents.

A semi-common headcanon within the Kirby fandom is that Prince Fluff was created by Yin-Yarn, which is what originally spawned this interpretation. A few perceptive Kin-Yarnians noticed that Kine and Prince Fluff have the same exact color scheme. Like it's kind of uncanny actually Kine is just a little desaturated.

This caused the creation of the Yamily Tree, an. absurdly large family tree but it's kinda bloated and not that funny anymore. Here's the condensed version

Usually Prince Fluff is not actually biologically related to Kine. Since that has horrifying implications. Instead it implies that after Kine and Yin-Yarn are married, they adopt Prince Fluff (Which he usually isn't happy with).

III B. KINE'S DIVORCES

Ok so Kine Kirby is married to Mine canonically. However we haven't seen her in a very long time, and in Kirby Clash Kine is sleeping on a bench. Leading to the idea that he and Mine got a divorce. This is accepted by everyone who ships Kin-Yarn because Kine cheating on his wife isn't a laughing matter, but Kine leaving his wife for Yin-Yarn is. (Usually the interpretation is Mine leaving Kine)

Even though Kin-Yarn is interpreted as perfect most times, other interpretations are that after they get married the relationship becomes volatile. At the core the two still love each other, but due to one reason or another they've grown apart. This is best shown in the Kin-Yarn Fanfiction named after the ships national anthem, "The One That Got Away" on AO3 by HeavyLobster77.

This is very popular both for the drama and because it's very funny.

IV. Historical Kin-Yarn Events & Holidays

-The Great Kin-Yarn Porn Scare of 1969 Someone uploaded an explicit Kin-Yarn fic on AO3 tagged as explicit with very SUS tags. It wasn't real though and the fic is just among us.

-Kin-Yarn Discord There's a Kin-Yarn discord out there that's dead as hellll and I'm. Not sharing a link good luck finding it

-Kin-Yarn WORLD TOUR I blazed a Kin-Yarn post when tumblr Blaze first came out. Spending real money to force people to look upon Kin-Yarn was a powerful move.

-Feared Anon creating the best AUs of all time Kinederella (Technically theres no real au just funny images)

-Kin-Yarn Blog Wars ok i cannot find many of the blogs but for a bit everyone made blogs dedicated to loving or hating kin-yarn. Also KinYarn-Archives was created at some point around this time I think.

-Kin-Yarn BANNED from the Shipping Wiki Tumblr user Kaissauce tried to create a page on the shipping Wikipedia, but it was deleted by the mods lmao. Here's what the page originally looked like.

Monday Morning thought - gosh do you ever think of Isildur as a Tolkienesque Prometheus-figure. Like the ring as the fire but also the sapling as the fire and the fucking volcano presence in both narratives.

I'm afraid if I start actually reading these books I'll die a death-induced-by-foaming-at-the-mouth-over-literary-characters.

OOOOH!! I hadn't thought about that exact comparison before but it's interesting because rather than stealing in defiance of divinity, when it comes to the fruit of Nimloth Isildur is sort of stealing…out of devotion to the divine? Or in defiance of a particular demigod, who wanted the tree destroyed? But both his choice and Prometheus' can absolutely be framed as the epitome of human striving, reaching with every bit of strength for better things, providing hope for others at great personal cost...and then when it comes to keeping the ring, 100% is a similar instance of unintended tragic consequences. Also the volcano stuff...yeah, shit.

You got me all worked up about the symbolism angle here, so apologies for what follows. The white tree of Númenor is a direct descendent of Telperion, the elder of two trees of Valinor, whose light is used to create the moon after the tree itself is destroyed by Morgoth…Isildur, servant of the moon, is essentially (as in, by his essence) bound to this living thing, his life and its life are tied up in each other for almost 200 years, and he refuses to let the line of the tree end, it’s like a fucking compulsion for him from the initial instance…there’s something about his unquestioning commitment that makes me insane. Stealing the fruit in the first place is such a batshit crazy thing to do, no one asked him to do it, no one said it had to be done, he just fucking left home in the middle of the night on a suicide mission, he may not have even known why but he knew he had to save a piece of this tree. It's fucking unhinged!! He almost DIES…he should have died!! But then the fruit of the tree takes root, and it lives, and so he lives. And that cycle is repeated, Isildur brings the sapling to Middle-earth and plants it in the city where his family makes their home. Then he saves a sapling of that tree when Sauron attacks them there (I imagine this is nearly as reckless a situation as the first one, but JRRT was short on the details here as with most things from this period). Looking at it from Sauron’s POV, poor little dark lord just can't catch a break, maybe all he really wants is this tree gone and a weird feral king with a very specific gardening fixation refuses to let that happen. Sauron lost his fair form when Númenor went under, but Isildur and his family and this fucking tree make it out, and continue to survive...if I were Sauron I might take that personally too lmao.

Isildur faces so many defeats and losses between the time he steals the fruit in Númenor and his own death (and the loss of the ring), but he ensures the sapling makes it out every time. The last time he plants it, it's in memory of his brother (I won’t cry about this, I won’t cry about this, I won’t). Then Anárion’s line survives, along with the line of the tree, in Gondor, and they're the stewards who hold off the forces of Mordor for generations while everyone else is off doing their own shit.

Ultimately, Isildur is someone who is trying to make the right choices all the time, and the worst part is he does make them consistently, even later in his life, based on the information he has access to, only to die alone tragically, knowing most of the people who he loves have died too. He kept the ring as WEREGILD, before anybody comes into my notifications with snark and pj!Elrond memes…I am forever bitter that decision was framed in the movies as anything other than the choice of a broken-hearted man trying to do right by his people and the loved ones he’d lost.

Anyway, I would love to hear if you do read the books, I have been foaming the mouth over these characters for two decades off and on and I'm still going strong...not sure if that's more a recommendation or a warning lol. I got very off topic here, sorry lol. He’s just so [incoherent screaming]

Letter in a Recipe Box.

~1k words, angsty, rosa-centric. I was thinking about our attorney’s parents and wondering about their family dynamic, so what if it was…like this? This is one of my first times actually writing something through to post, so lmk how it feels :)

Hi Mom,

It’s been a while. A lot has changed since the last time I wrote you a letter—I’ve been really busy lately, but things seem to be going well. The team and I have been working hard, and I’ve barely had time to catch a break, but at least I got to deep clean my bathroom this morning. Someone’s got to tell me to stop buying cosmetics and skincare products in those adorable tiny bottles—they’re everywhere. I know you’d scold me for leaving them all over the counter if you could see me.

Luke and I made dinner the other day. I didn’t think asparagus could retain that much water, but sometimes miracles happen, I guess! At least the two of us tried. Peanut could’ve eaten some of it raw, but there was too much oil and seasoning for him to have it safely, so Luke said we should start a compost with our failed food attempts. Even though that was a joke, I think composting is a good idea. I love the idea of having a lush, green apartment, you know? I’m just not sure how many plants I could raise at a time.

He and I have been really close lately. I know I said in my last letter that he’s changed a lot since we were young, but I honestly think that’s for the best. He’s the same Luke, just older and closer than before. Plus, he looks like he’s having fun too.

The more I hang out with him, the more I think back to my high school days. Remember when I got my license and Luke and I almost crashed into a telephone pole while we were getting poster board for a project? I still drive extra cautiously around that intersection.

I joke that I’ll have to retake Driver’s Ed soon because Mr. Wing takes me so many places. Still, I think he likes being my chauffeur, which makes me glad. Of course, I still have to drive myself to my own things too, so I don’t depend on him all of the time. Imagine if I made him drive me to the gynecologist last week? I think he would’ve fainted.

Oh, Mr. Wing makes really good food too! He’d probably make much better asparagus than Luke and I do, but if he came for dinner I think I’d have to drag him along as well, since apparently we need to know what good asparagus tastes like. Luke talks about you from time to time too. He misses you, I think.

That reminds me, you haven’t met the rest of my coworkers yet—Marius has gone on a pottery kick since I last wrote to you, so he’s decided to add a wheel and kiln to his studio. This isn’t too surprising to me, because I know he’s got plenty of money and space to afford all his crazy endeavors. Still, it’s funny that he chooses to start so many equipment-specific art hobbies without ever replacing his old oil paints. It’s endearing how he treats his crusty brushes.

He’s got a brother, did you know that? His name’s Giann. Marius hasn’t seen him for around two years, but he still talks about him when we’re alone and the rest of the room goes quiet.

Mr. Wing made me his General Tso's Pork this weekend, one of the things Professor Hume taught him to cook. While we were out doing fieldwork, he reminisced on all the things he’d said about law…between that and the stories about the camera and the amusement park that I told you last time, I think he sounds like quite the character. I wish I could’ve known him as a mentor instead of just a professor. I wish I could meet Giann, too. They both sound like wonderful people. Maybe we’ve all got someone missing.

Oh, but speaking of Marius and his pottery, I bet you’d love the floral design on this teacup I’m drinking out of. He’s really amazing at painting—it’s so interesting to watch him work. Marius was painting a similar one for Dr. Richter the other day, cracking himself up because the flower bouquet subtly formed a bit of a…phallic shape. If Dr. Richter had any less composure, I’m pretty sure he’d break it over his head. I can already see his cold glare now. I do have to admit, I like seeing the members of our team joke around, even if they pretend they hate each other afterwards. It’s amazing to see them warming up.

Dr. Richter hasn’t talked to me about you yet. I’m a little surprised, considering he’s a psychiatrist and we’re such good friends, but I think he’s trying not to tread on anything sensitive.

It doesn’t always feel sensitive all the time, though. Sometimes I feel okay on my own.

When Luke and I were making the asparagus a few days ago, I told him I had the instructions for a seasoning I wanted to try, so he started looking around the counter for my recipe box. I told him I kept my favorite recipes saved on my tablet, which is true, but I didn’t mention that I keep the recipe box on my nightstand nowadays. I’ve been stuffing these letters in there for months. I started writing them sitting at the counter around the time I started at Themis, but I didn’t know where to put them considering I don’t know where to send them and I’m not sure you’d respond. It’s somehow become a little stash of notes and memories.

Though I’ve heard that writing letters and throwing them away is cathartic, I couldn’t get rid of any of them. Maybe you’ll need to read them some day.

Thanks for the Christmas card, at least. Maybe it would’ve been nice if you sent a note. If I’m being completely honest, it made me bitter, arriving a week late with a wad of money and no return address. Happy holidays, I guess. And I’d just come back happy from a party with my coworkers.

I’m sorry I wrote that. You know the feeling when you get so sad you lash out at people? I try not to be that person as much as I can, especially in my line of work, but when I’m alone like this I remember how much I could’ve shared with you and it just hurts so bad that I need to say something to get it out, otherwise I’ll have another migraine in the office like I did after my holiday break. Please don’t be mad. I know that probably makes it seem like I hate you, but I really never could.

Tell Dad I said hi. I’m sorry I got so mad at the end of this one—life’s been a lot lately and I miss you a ton. I promise I’ll be more positive in the next letter.

The MC Sneaks Into the Brothers' Beds While They're Asleep

@irenethehotdog don’t worry, I found ya anyway. 😁 Sooo there was a kind of tender way I could have played this… but then there was a funny way. I hope you're alright that I went with the funny way. 😅 I got two bed requests that are kind of similar-ish but how I’m interpreting them makes them just different enough to warrant two different asks. Here's the first one!

Intro:

Sometimes everybody needs a little comfort, especially in the middle of the night. Any number of things could have drawn the MC out of their bed: bad dreams, nagging thoughts, just general fear of the darkness of Hell that surrounded them, but they decided to try to soothe their unease with the company of their demonic housemates! Wonder how that turned out for them..?

Lucifer

I mean, if you’re feeling a little alone at night, maybe a little scared, it would only be natural to want to seek solace with the strongest person in the nearest vicinity, right? ...Right?

To say it was maybe ill-advised to just climb into bed with Lucifer would be an understatement… Frankly, if the enchantments he had on his door weren’t specifically meant for Mammon then they might have ended up in a very compromised position. But somehow, they managed to infiltrate the demon’s private sanctuary and get right up to his bed.

Now, Lucifer is not a heavy sleeper. Not at all. He’s grown pretty accustomed to waking up at all hours of the night because of his brother’s antics, so he felt the shifting weight on his mattress almost instantly.

They probably weren’t expecting him to suddenly jerk upright and spin towards them, fireball in hand ready to lob at their face... but that’s what they got.

After realizing that it was just the human and not Mammon coming in to take his stuff again, he made them sit down in front of his fireplace while he gave them a looong lecture about personal boundaries and how it’s really not smart to sneak up on demons like that…

But he was still sympathetic to their sleep-deprived state so he offered them some tea and Devildom sleep remedies in hopes of getting them back to bed. ...Just not his. Back to your bed with you, MC.

Mammon

Mammon was their “babysitter.” Their protector. Their guardian. So why wouldn’t they want to go to him on a difficult night?

Getting into Mammon’s bed was hardly a challenge, sure they had to tiptoe through the garbage heap that made up his bedroom floor but it wasn’t Mission Impossible or anything…

What did catch them off guard was just how… not clothed he felt after they slid in under his covers. Like, pretty much wearing nothing at all. Not even a pair of courtesy boxers. 😓

It was their squeal as they flung themselves out of the bed that actually woke Mammon up. They had him ripping the covers off, ready to leap into action and everything, which definitely didn’t help matters. (Or maybe it did, depending on your point of view 🤷‍♀️).

Both parties pretty much turned into a cursing/blushing mess as he shot them embarrassed, rapid-fire questions while desperately trying to pull on some sweats. Meanwhile the MC stayed plastered up against the wall of his bedroom, answering him in equally defensive shouts.

Eventually, their fuss woke up Lucifer who was quick to send both of them back to their respective beds. The House teased them mercilessly for weeks… How were they supposed to know Mammon slept naked??

Leviathan

Levi might be a… strange choice for bedmate at first glance (he doesn’t really even sleep in bed, but a tub hardly meant for two people). However, there’s a certain level of approachability to him, isn’t there? Considering his own struggles with anxiety, maybe they thought he could relate…?

They tried knocking on his door first, thinking he might have been gaming, but there was no answer. When they walked in and found the otaku actually asleep for once, it seemed like their wishes might have actually been granted!

...But then came the actual trouble of trying to get into bed with Levi to start with. There wasn’t really an easy way to squeeze their body in past his because the tub was so dang narrow…

Any rational person might have just given up on the venture, but not MC. Whatever's possessed them to want to sleep with this awkward shut-in has a pretty good hold on them yet.

Lack of sleep might have been what gave them the bright idea to just try and lay on top of Levi veeerrry sooooftlllly…. Which is how the poor demon woke up to them halfway straddling his waist in the middle of the night.

His remarkably high-pitched scream woke up the whole dang House and the sheer amount of force he used when trying to jerk out of the tub toppled it over… Even after many apologies (and a trip to go buy a new tub), Levi still double locks his door at night to this day… 😓

Satan

Really an odd choice there, not going to lie. They’re well aware of the possibility that they could accidentally wake him and he maaaay not be the best waker (what being Wrath and all) but if it’s irrational worries that got you down, why not go to the most rational person in the House? Sounds like a perfectly logical decision, right?

That might have been what their half-baked disillusions were telling them on the way to Satan's bedroom but actually standing in front of the sleeping man was a whole other story. They felt crazy, genuinely crazy… But they still slipped in under the covers anyway.

Satan stirred almost immediately and turned to face them… but his eyes could hardly keep focus and the look of dopey confusion on his face could have honestly made the perfect screen background. "Huuuuuh…? MC…? What're you doin' 'ere…?"

They kind of had to hold in a laugh while they explained that they just wanted to sleep next to him that night. Satan beamed them an oddly serene smile and just nodded. "Okaaay…" With that he seemed to roll over to go back to sleep… but his mind caught back up with him before his drowsiness did.

"Wait a minute..." Ah shit….

Like Lucifer, Satan ended up giving them a pretty good lecture on boundaries and the like when he finally snapped out of his stupor. Thankfully he wasn't mad, just a little embarrassed that they had seen him like that. He offered them a good book or two to pass the time if they couldn't sleep, but sent them back to bed all the same.

Asmodeus

Asmo probably doesn’t get people coming into his bed with completely chaste intentions very often, but he’s by far the most emotionally in-tuned demon in the House. If they're after a little sympathy, best just go to Asmo right?

They weren't really sure what to expect when they walked into his room... Does Asmo sleep like a Disney Princess, hair and makeup done perfectly in defiance of all laws of beauty?

Does he sleep like a '60s housewife, with curlers in his hair and leftover chips of mud mask on his face?

Does he sleep like the god of all sex that he is, sculpted chest for the eyes to see and everything underneath laid bare like a honeypot of temptation??

The MC doesn't really get to know, because when they pulled back the covers to climb inside they were met by the sight of someone else's very naked ass taking up the spot where they thought Asmo should be.

They go back to their room willingly, dejected and maybe a little scarred... Apparently they were just too late to the party...

Beelzebub

Okay, everything about Beel screams “Hello! I’m a warm comforting teddy bear!”...aside from the hungry parts. It’s really not hard to see why they’d want to go to him if they’re feeling a little vulnerable.

They didn't worry too much about being quiet when they walked into the twins' room. Belphie could sleep through a rock concert and Beel wasn't too far behind him (as long as he wasn't hungry).

They figured that the tall twin wouldn't mind too much if they just crawled into bed with him… He had make a similar request of them before, it was only fair right?

As they were preparing their tired body for a good night's sleep, they gently pulled the covers back next to Beel but they probably weren't expecting to find so many food wrappers surrounding him… or bags of chips… or packages of cookies… or-

Apparently Beel had yet another sleep-eating run and this time he seemed to have brought the whole kitchen back with him. There was hardly enough room left for Beel anymore, let alone the MC!

Considering their options were to either wedge themselves between a havoc roast and a bag of jerky or just brave one more night on their own, they cut their losses early and went back to their own bed...

Belphegor

They didn’t have to know Belphie since Day One of being there to pick up on how hard he slept. The man was pretty much in a coma for most of the day and that included his nightly rests too. Would he even notice if they… per say… slipped into bed with him to get a little comfort from their nightmares? Surely, he’d stay asleep, right?

When they didn't see his sleeping form in the room he shared with Beel, the MC eventually found Belphie up in the attic room. His little hideaway with a plush-ass bed to boot.

They didn’t bother being quiet at all. They figured that Belphie could have stayed under for anything short of banging pots and pans in his ears so why try to mask their footsteps?

They never expected him to be awake. 😰

The moment they lifted the covers, Belphie struck like some kind of blanket crocodile! He grabbed them by the waist and dragged them into the spot of the bed right under him with a impish grin on his face.

Turns out they weren't the only ones having sleeping problems that night and as they felt the full weight of his worn out body settle in nicely up against theirs they knew that maybe, finally, they'd get a good night's sleep… 🤭
