my guy i have not done a full read of khr in maybe two years and i know that does not sound like a long time but i have the long-term memory of a fruit fly. please bear with me. luckily for both of us i liveblogged the last time i read so i at least have my own sparknotes jdflaksjddaf

first off! khr is a satire manga!!! i cannot stress this enough, i can and will fight you to the death about this!!! “oh but it gets serious later” it grows a PLOT, thats not the same thing. khr is stupid as hell and that is both on purpose and my favorite thing about it.

i fucking love shonen man!!! its all about FIGHTING and LOVING YOUR FRIENDS and HAVING EMOTIONS and. bro im a water sign. my mars is in gemini, there is nothing i can do about this, god made me and said “get that bitch some found family and also some incredible violence” and we all just have to live with that. 

khr is so much all of those things that i did not realize they were being made fun of until very long after the fact so my current opinions are very much not the ones i started with jaldkhjdfhd but man. once i clued in i both loved it so much more and became 100% incapable of interacting with fandom in any meaningful way L M A O

i just. the main conceit is that theyve weaponized the deus ex machina eleventh-hour shonen power up. the “my dead family came back to life to kill me” trope is used three separate times. the big bad student body president is a delinquent. theres an entire subset of above magic god powers thatre just

the tyl bazooka was just ripping on the Timeskip Arc until the Timeskip Arc actually happened?? like fuuta’s special thing is that he can communicate with the Meta Planet to divine Character Rankings, i dont know what to tell you!!! the truth is out there!!! 

like DO YOU EVEN REMEMBER that time tsuna experienced a villain’s flashback sequence FOR HIM because i fucking do, i think about it every day,

so in the sense of “please critique the writing”, i cant do that because im pretty sure 98% of all the tropey bullshit is by design. do i wish people like the kokuyo gang got more characterization outside of being ride-or-die villain sidekicks?? of course i do but thats my own damn fault for seeing cool side characters and losing all higher brain function. on the other hand, hibari being the person he is and having absolutely no backstory or motivation beyond “get out of my school” is really fucking funny and keeps me warm at night, so. win some, lose some.

(the 2% of the writing that isnt tropey bullshit that i CAN critique is whatever is happening with kyoko. Bad Female Cast is definitely a shonen trope but its a shitty one and i want it to die. within maybe four minutes of kyoko being introduced she tries to body a man and then thats just never spoken about again?? wheres that energy queen?!!! let kyoko say fuck!!!!)

If khr took itself even 4% more seriously it could be really deep and compelling and i think that frustrates a lot of people, but i think i like it better this way?? half the fun for me is reading in between the lines!! the subtext, however unintentional it may be!!

examples: yamamoto is one of my favorites just because theres SO FUCKING MUCH to unpack about him!! canon gives us a lot of information about him just by virtue of the fact that he’s a Main Character, but paradoxically he himself is never really the focus. he just Does Shit and you have to figure out why on your own and i LOVE DOING THAT.

i dont love mukuro because he’s a fleshed out and nuanced villain, i love him because he says shit like “i went to hell six times” and never expounds upon that or “i can definitely trust the information i got from this magic monocle called Demon Spade’s Super Evil Murder Eye or whatever the fuck” and then expresses surprise when daemon spade is an asshole. he goes and willfully fucks up the only job anyones ever given him (impersonate 80 year old leonardo lippi) because he Just Has to shapeshift into a young hot dude and hand deliver byakuran, the boss of the Flower Family, the Family that names all its members after Flowers, a bouquet that means “i am in disguise ;) cant catch me bitch ;)”

You might've answered this already and I just didn't find it, but one thing that always perplexed me about Duke was how old he was in comparison to the other Batkids. It's obvious he's younger than Dick and Babs, and I pretty sure he's younger than Jason and Cass, and older than Damian, but I cannot tell if he's meant to be Tim and Steph's ages, younger, or older. Could you help me?

You’re all kinds of good here, anon!!! I answered a similar ask abt the Order of Adoption but didn’t dive into specific ages on that post BECAUSE well they didn’t ask lmaooo but ALSO:

Comic ages are very fluid usually! While Years™️ might pass in the canon proper, or while time seems to slow to a crawl, having a character’s age outright stated is something that occurs very rarely for most characters, if at all!

Because it’s always much easier to have a floating age range to work and play around in! It’s easier to keep a character Perpetually 12 or 16 or 25 or mid-40s or- you get the idea. SO, with that in mind. Let’s do our Best to Break Down What Age Duke Might Be Currently A N D how it might interact with the Other Batkids!

(Warning for a Very Long Post, lots of issue citations, and a LOT of comics terminology regarding specific runs/events/continunity. I’m gonna try to keep it as clear/concise as possible ofc but plz keep these things in mind! If you’re not at least marginally familiar with Bat-Comics, you might find yourself feeling a little lost here!)

So from the Zero Year arc we see a common Trend that plays out pretty consistently with Batfam comics: a Life-Changing Event Occuring while the protag is Young™️.

With how Duke is drawn in these particular issues, and given the trends of the past, I’d place him in the 8-12 range. The historic precedent being ofc that that is the same range that canon usually places both Bruce and Dick at for their Tragedies™; the more benign reason being that he... just very much Looks to be drawn in that Range. He’s very clearly an Older/Prepubescent child here.

Fast Forward to his Next Appearance in the Endgame arc and-

(Batman (2011) #37)

He’s definitely older! He’s wiser! And he’s giving Batman a fistbump lmao. Again, no strict age given here BUT, since they condensed each Robin to a Year or Two tops with Bruce (its n52 and its fucked up is what it is), we can assume it’s been at least 4-5 since Zero Year (which would mean if we go off the age range I proposed for that year, then theoretically he could be anywhere from 12-16 here, and I think that tracks pretty well. Not Perfectly and Certainly Not so well with Pre52 continuity ofc, but I’ll talk about that later!)

In We Are Robin, while its not stated Directly In The Text, it IS given as an Informational Tidbit that Duke is 16 (specifically this can be found at the end of issue #4)! (Sweet sweet canon confirmation FINALLY)

We know that WAR takes place Fairly Soon after Endgame (almost immediately, give or take a month or two given that Duke’s been placed in a few foster homes at this point and has racked up Quite A File) now, again id like to remind y’all that while this is a NICE starting point to have, keep in mind that comics are fluid and this may be retconned slightly/ignored in later stories bc Keeping Duke 16-ish is in DC’s Best Interest at the moment. (Having Relatable Teen Characters afterall is a Good Marketing strategy™️. And the longer they can Keep them Young, the Better)

With that in mind let’s take a moment to Highlight the fact that Duke and Damian have crossed paths at this point AND the storylines that have occurred during this year that were meant to be in conjunction with one another!

Because Prior to Endgame, Damian had Died! And just a year (in real, meat-space time) before We Are Robin, he was resurrected and had begun his “Year of Atonement” in the Robin: Son of Batman maxiseries. Midway through both this series and WAR (and, we can assume, midway thru this “Year” for Damian) the Robin War begins/ends and we see at least one major Moment between these two boys who will soon call one another brothers:

Given that R:SoB is followed up VERY quickly by Teen Titans Rebirth (in which Damian celebrates his 13th birthday), we can conclude that Damian would be 12 during this time (well, 12 and 1/2 to play it safe lmao). That being said, this Confirms about a 4yr gap between Duke and Damian! (One Batkid down at least! but he’s the key to the others so put a pin in him!)

As We Are Robin draws to its conclusion, DC was releasing another arc that would eventually flow into the Rebirth Era, by the end of which, Bruce would approach Duke with an Idea (which involves Bruce becoming Dukes temporary guardian & as he states Many Times “Trying Something New” with Duke).

And thus the Rebirth Era begins, and Duke began his Year of training (most directly encapsulated by the Cursed Wheel arc in the All-Star Batman run:

Bruce introduces Duke to a training regimen that Alfred has named “the Cursed Wheel”. It encompasses all the training Bruce and the other bats have undergone and condenses it down into color-coordinated segments that will take Duke a Year to Complete.

It can be assumed that by the End of this Year Duke will somehow miraculously still be 16, despite, again, an entire ass year passing.

There’s one story that takes place mid-year in All-Star Batman, and the Cursed Wheel is meant to be capped off by Duke’s first Official Day as the Signal (in the titular Batman & the Signal ofc) BUT, near as I can tell after this story, Dukes age is not brought up again. So until they DO bring it up either in Batman & the Outsiders or whatever future run Duke becomes involved in, we can assume DC will be working with the idea that he’s meant to be in that 16-18 range from here on out (ie still a minor).

But, dear anon, you might be saying “okay, that’s cool, but how does that relate to my question abt how he falls in with the other Bats?” You’ll have to be a little patient with me here, but I think I may have cracked the code!

Keep in mind I’m gonna be addressing both the Post-Crisis to Flashpoint Continuity (ie mid-80s to 2010 in comics history) and the N52-slash-Rebirth Era (2010-Today). Its generally agreed by fandom and DC alike that these points of rebooting &/or Major Events constitute the era of “Modern” comics, and that everything from the 80s-on might more or less be canon on some level, even if not All of it is.

(Plus, most of fandom usually likes to borrow elements from both eras and much more rarely from stories before it, SO-)

Lets do a quick rundown of how everyone who’s Closer to Duke’s Age, Relates to each other first, age-wise:

Given that Jason was 15 when he died, in A Lonely Place of Dying its established that Bruce had become increasingly reckless since his death, and by the end of the story, Tim has stepped in to fill Robin’s shoes (he states that he’s 13 during this story btw). Pretty soon after, Stephanie Brown is introduced & established to be about a year older than Tim (wish I could pin-point a specific issue BUT, i unfortunately haven’t read any Tim OR Steph-involved comics that predate No Man’s Land... Besides the aforementioned Lonely Place and Young Justice technically, but im working on remedying that soon!)

NOW, during the No Man’s Land event, Cassandra is introduced, and pretty soon into her Batgirl run, its revealed that she’s around the same age as Jason (or at least how old he Would Have Been, had he not died.) Now, given that Jay has an August bday and Cass has a January one, fandom sometimes likes to play around with the idea of one being older than the other (OR even speculating/placing them in an AU as twins/siblings, given that Lady Shiva (Cass’ mom) was a Possible Candidate to be Jason’s biological mother but that’s a Whole Other Thing i wont get into here.)

The point being, Cass, in this era of comics, IS slightly older than Tim and Steph. At Tim’s start as Robin, their ages could either line up like: Tim-13, Steph-14, Cass-15 (being a few months ‘behind’ Jay), then Jason at 15/16 (depending on how soon Tim filled the role after Jay died in April) OR Jason-15/16, Cass-16/17 (in this case she’d be a few months ‘ahead’ now instead)

So brief detour to talk New 52, however! Because Tim, Steph & Cass all got switched around from where DC originally left them prior to the reboot! Now I haven’t read much of them in this era, other than Batman & Robin: Eternal, so my Understanding of their current ages is Spotty at Best. The general consensus seems to be that while before N52, Stephanie had been attending her first year of College (& doing VERY WELL i might add), with the reboot she was set back a few years alongside Tim to a vague Late-Teen state (so 16-18-ish, instead of a Very Clearly Established 18/19). Cass is probably the worst off for this reboot, given that B&R:E basically constitutes her new origin for the new continuity, and does nothing to confirm her age (all I really know is that she’s a Vague Late-Teen too... Probably? Maybe?), given how much they infantilize her, and subsequently how fandom in turn has taken to infantilizing her too, theres a semi-popular fanon that places her Younger that Tim and Steph. And I, for one, propose that we ignore that bc its Weak Sauce my dudes.

Some fans chose to ignore N52 continuity due to this vagueness, and will stick to the ages established before the N52/Rebirth reboots. But its something to keep in mind regardless bc we’re all obviously going to pull from what’s most familiar to us!

But WHERE could we place Duke with regards to them, then? Because them being “Late Teens” is certainly much too vague to work with!

This is Where Damian is the key!

Because Damian is one of those rare exceptions to the Reboot Rule. His story flowed almost seamlessly over from before to after. While he was made a Robin at the age of 10, he continued to grow and learn even after the universe was being rewritten to suit the whims of DC editorial. 

If we choose to ignore how everyone else’s ages and origins were swapped around, and stick with the growth that was presented before the reboot, then we can draw some interesting conclusions!

Firstly, though Stephanie also had Died and subsequently Returned, she hadn’t lost much, if any time, from the Ordeal. At the start of her Batgirl run, she is enrolled at a Gotham university and making headway with a more firm foot in the Batfamily (even to the point that she and Damian spend a few issues bonding. At this point in time, Damian is definitely 11, and again, Steph can be assumed to be 18/19 during the course of her run. We’ll assume 18 for clarity’s sake.)

So, then when Damian is 11, now our line up is as Follows:

Dami - 11, Steph - 18, Tim - 17, Cass 19-21 (the range depending again, if you subscribe to Cass being either older/younger than Jason).

WHICH MEANS, If during Robin War Damian is 12 (and a half) THEN We’ve got an age line-up that Potentially looks Like This:

Dami -12(and 1/2), Duke - 16, Tim - 18, Steph - 19, Cass - 20-22 (And Obvsly Jason, Babs & Dick at their varying Older Ages than everyone here)

and im just now realizing i Didnt include Harper in this line-up, but thats bc she’d also throw a big wrench in all this.  I’d personally throw her in with being Steph’s age, but I’m pretty sure she was supposed to be either that, or between Steph and Cass (again, since its N52, i believe Cass was/is assumed to be Younger than Steph, but that contradicts the assumed following of pre52 canon that we have for the above line-up, obvsly, and so we ignore that lmao) 

All this to say, however, that canon and fandom is what you make of it, and if you want to wiggle these ages around a little, you’re more than allowed! God Knows i usually like to skew the Tim-Steph-Cass age group to be a tad older than this in my own fic writing, and I like to have Duke start as a Robin at 14/15 instead of 16, but that’s just bc I like the dynamic potential it could bring with them being Definitively Older that him, and thus in a more secure place to be Mentoring him right alongside Bruce & the others.

But you might see these age ranges and want to do something Different (say, making Tim, Steph, Cass, & Duke all the Same Age at 17 instead! And that very well tracks with how current comics kinda looks right now!) and you’re absolutely valid to do so! Because again, comic character’s ages are meant to be fluid, not fixed!

And at the end of the day, its all about wanting to see these teen heroes kick serious ass haha

i lowkey love how “sbi family dynamics” added in “tubbo was adopted on the side of the road” but it turned into “okay well techno isn’t a kid, but at least the others are” which then also turned into “so. looks like tommy isn’t either.” which inevitably leaves wilbur and tubbo to be the only kids phil has. tuboo, who wasn’t even in the sbi family dynamics originally.

which extra fun little thing. phil has two grandsons from his two sons. wilbur and sally had fundy, tubbo and ranboo had michael, like?? frick dude. wilbur and tubbo were both l’manberg presidents. what wild parallels.  maybe the downfall of sbi family dynamics turned out something swell

Y’know, something interesting about c!Dream and why I think he has apologists and sympathizers has to do with the fact we witnessed his downfall into villainy which isn’t very common. Usually, you’ll get villains first and their stories afterwards, but? c!Dream wasn’t always a villain. At least, not a clean-cut one.

(sorry it’s just another rant about dream’s character that ended up devolving form the above point, oops)

Like, off the bat, it’s just a dude with his friends, pre-all of the roleplay. When the initial bits of roleplay were first introduced with L’manberg, I don’t feel like you can genuinely call c!Dream an evil guy. He was defending his morals and trying to keep the community together and keep a semblance of peace. From L’manberg’s point of view, of course he was the bad guy, and being the underdogs and streaming the most, c!Dream was cast into the role of villain. But, not everybody was willing to full-heartedly believe that which is where the first dream believers came from I’d say.

When the whole election thing came around, sure, c!Dream initially supported c!Schlatt (but he also didn’t have much reason to support c!Wilbur for presidency), but then c!Dream did change ways. Literally, the original thing he said for that at first was the fact that c!Wilbur’s L’manberg had ended up living in peace with the Dream SMP, c!Wilbur hadn’t tried extending L’manberg’s reach like c!Schlatt was now doing. The only reason that didn’t fall through was because c!Wilbur was convinced that wasn’t the reason and kept saying something different until Dream went with it. Like that was manipulated and so his entire being and character sorta changed in that instance. He became awful and manipulative and so much worse.

Which sorta ties into the fact these people still believe there’s something there in him. His character was changed from the starting point midway through to a different one. So the people (and honestly, by now, people means me. Cause I also know not everybody thinks this way and some genuinely just like c!Dream for his awfulness and no judgement there) are still attached to that character and have been clinging onto him through all this time and don’t want to let it go.

In which yes, I do acknowledge that things current c!Dream have done are awful and terrible and I don’t agree with those choices. But I just want things to go back to how they used to be for him too, back before the entirety of the election/manberg/etc. Albeit I do suppose that since Dream seems to be fine with going this route with his character, I should be too.

#1 is…Atsushi! 

He’s the most normal out of all the characters, to be honest

When he sees you, it’s nothing spectacularity radiant, per se

There’s a pretty girl in his school! cool! 

The strangest part is that it’s an all-boys school, so naturally, he’s confused

Through a series of plot shenanigans, you’re there as an exchange student

And he’s been told he has to help you get settled!! 

He introduces you to the Earth Defense Club, and slowly you two grow acclimated with each other 

While you’re friendly to everyone else, there’s something different between you and him 

It’s chemistry, and even Ryuu wouldn’t dare poke it 

One afternoon, someone asks you out via love letter, all the extra stuff

And you turn them down as politely as you can 

But thanks to the indifference, the boy gets offended 

He turns into a letter-shaped monster, and the Battle Lovers have to step in 

Atsushi is both appalled and terrified 

Did the monster hurt you??

Why did the monster appear around you? 

Was it something to do with you? 

He spends half of the battle just covering you 

And once the monster starts spewing slander, Atsushi is having none of it.

Whatever the monster says, Atsushi refutes, defending you until the rest of the battle is at a standstill and he’s just bickering with the monster. 

Eventually, Atsushi practically makes the monster choke on respect women juice, and on behalf of the passed out student, Atsushi begins apologising non-stop to you

You’re confused as hell 

The internet-famous Battle Lovers know you??

All you can see is the blurred out faces, and the blue one, the self-declared Piercing Prince, Epinard, seems to be constantly hanging over you 

And honestly 

He’s a cutie 

This results in a sailor moon-esque situation 

Where you have a crush on Epinard, Atsushi has a crush on you, and he’s miserable upon realising what he’s done 

Does he reveal that he’s Epinard???

Honestly, probably not on purpose  

I can absolutely see them talking about it and he’s like ‘do i always have to yell out im Epindard’ and he turns and sees you 

And you’re like ‘????? excuse me???’ 

Which results in more shenanigans 

#2 is…Yumoto!

He falls for the flirting every time 

He reciprocates as best as he can, but for the most part, it’s just him being soft 

He hugs you so much omfg 

It gives Wombat a break, and though you don’t know he’s a talking wombat, he’s all for you being there 

What’s interesting is that he’s telling everyone he’s gonna marry you

And since most of the ppl in the school are bros, no one’s told you 

Which gets awkward 

Because he’s 200% told you that he loves you 

But you take it as ‘:D! I love platonic love between my Friends! :D!’ 

So it becomes a Situation that everyone gets second-hand embarrassment from 

Yumoto has told his brother that he’s gonna marry you and you’d be the bathhouse’s Okami 

But you’re thrown for a loop when Gora asks you when you and Yumoto started dating 

And you’re like ‘??????’ 

This results in a brief but stern conversation between Gora and Yumoto 

And Yumoto feels guilty, of course

But you’re so sweet! And you flirt with him!! Doesn’t that mean you like him??

It’s a bit of a wakeup call, but he’s still only got two brain cells

You gotta cut him some slack 

For about a day, he chills out, though he’s melancholy 

After that he’s back to being oblivious and sweet 

#3 is…Kinshiro! 

Did someone say ‘emotionally constipated teenager who’s in a rivalry with his childhood best friend for the girl they like but he has no idea how to approach her due to the fact stated above (he is emotionally constipated)’???

This is a hard one, I was a real big fan of my storm barbarian Tiffany, or Unfaceable the ranger I played awhile ago.  They were more or less the same character

2. Your favorite character that someone else has played.

Oh absolutely Ragnarok the Winged One, he was my friend Juan’s first character I think (if not first one of the first).  He was a white dragon born sorcerer, who didn’t actually have wings for 96% of the campaign.  He also hated capitalists so goals really. 

3. Your favorite side quest.

One time I tried to set up a One night ultimate werewolf side quest, and it kinda worked, it’s just we stopped playing for like 2 months and they didn’t finish it.

So, technically they didn’t die, but one my players character went into the Negative Plane to marry a nightwalker who was going to be the final boss, but I felt really bad for all of them after making them do a like 4 stage thing.

The Strahd fight when I ran CoS last year was p cool, they all died but it was really not close (They got him to like 15 hp but there’s still tons of bullshit to do after that) or the final fight I did as Unfaceable, we fought a beholder and I was paralyzed for like 6 rounds.

Honestly, I enjoy seeing people get excited about playing the game.  Like when Juan (Tbh he’s just my all time favorite player sorry everyone else) got a crit while we were playing in the cafeteria and just fucking yelled about it.

OH fccuk this is a hard choice.  I really think Nightwalkers are like the coolest right now since I love Negative plane shit.  I think dragons are kinda overrated as enemies tho, i don’t hate them really tho since dragons are dope as fuck.

I Dm about twice a week and play once a week, Ideally I’d play or dm every day and have no other obligations but life is simply unfair

Oooo, hmmmmmmmmm, I really had a good plan for the end to this arc (the one with the nightwalker) but it kinda didn’t really happen how i planned which was a bit of a bummer, but it worked out in sort of a better way

I thought the concept for this movie was really original and interesting. There’s only a few movies out there that use the ‘you’ll never now’ technique  to make people really question: what if that’s happening right now? Here they used that technique to show that the world is completely normal, nothing is suspicious everyone is fine, until the main protagonist put on a pair of special sunglasses that allowed him to see aliens that have infultrated the Earth. I especially liked how every single advertisement was changed to something, mostly “OBEY” or “CONSUME”, because it’s actually a very interesting concept on its own how easily minds can be influenced. I heard quite a lot of conspiracies and things like that how the tv is brainwashig people with flashing images just like presented in this movie exept here only a few people will ever find out and the rest will never know. Another movie that does this ‘you’ll never know’ thing with it’s plot that I know off is Matrix, and basically everyone at some point thought to themselves what if we are a simulation being controled by someone, or what if nothing we know is real? And only a selective few people will ever be able to find out about it. I don’t know I just love when movies put people in a thinking mindset after watching them, not every movie you ever watched you will remember, but the one’s like this for example, I watched it like a week ago, I don’t remember any character names I do remember some nice scenes that I thought were good but the thing that stuck with me the most is the ‘secret hidden world’ I guess. Of how what we perceive is so different from reality.

And all of that happened in around the first 30 minutes of the film, after that it all went downhill at least in my opinion. So they had this interesting, new and original concept for alien takeover of Earth and what do they do with it? How do we kick the aliens out? Well apparently we shoot them because that’s exactly what the main character does for the next 20 minutes as well as attempting to convince a dude he met at work that we need to believe is his only and best friend for plot convinience that there are in fact aliens. And I thought it was so stupid because this guy (the friend) was introduced saying he’s working away from home, providing for his wife and kids, he misses them a lot and all that good stuff. So the main character with his 900IQ decides to involuntarily force that guy to see aliens as well and get him all tangled up in this scheme that he almost died for 3 times up to this point. Well played honestly, because like screw this guy and his family, we’re talking about the greater good of the wolrd here, his family doesnt matter. But anyway they have this long fight scene in some back alley so that the main character can give the dude glasses and I swear that scene was good for the first 2 minutes. It definitely did not need to last like 12 I believe. 12 minutes spent on 2 guys punching each other about some glasses in a 90 minute long movie. It was so long and only had one purpose that could’ve been achieved in a single minute if not less. Honestly this scene bothered me so much, it was good but too long for what it gave the viewer plot wise, like every time they were down and I believed the guy will simply put the glasses on noooooo.. They get back up and fight for another 2 minutes, like come on.

Also there was this female character that served nothing throughout the movie, at first she gets held a hostage by the main character as he’s in a cat and mouse chase with the aliens because he thought it was a brilliant idea to shoot some of them in public places like a shop or a bank and then was suprised to be chased by police. Also side note there is no way in the world the police appears so fact, I get it when in was like 2 alien policemen because the aliens were shown to be able to teleport but all the other times it was normal police cars and policemen. They must be really bored to be able to appear literall seconds after called and know exactly who to chase and where, very convinient for the movie. But back to this lady I thought she was going to be a love interest for the main character and at first shes really anxious and acts negatively towards the main character (obviously who wouldn’t? He’s holding her hostage and making her drive to her house so he can hide there and obiously she’s a dumb female love interest in an 80′s movie so she does exactly like she’s told), the main character chills at her house for a while and then suprise suprise she gets some common sense and calls the cops who arrive within 20s with motorcycles 8 cars and everything. And we’re led to believe she knows about the aliens and tells the police about this man because she’s rich and it’s been mentioned that rich people know about the aliens and are allright with them as long as they profit, at leasts that’s what it looks like from the main characters point of view, but honsetly who wouldn’t call help in a situation like she’s in. But anyway she ind of disappears for half the movieand then the main character and his bestie find a hide out for humans that know about the aliens and want to fight them off of this planet. They seem very organised considering the aliens control everything at this point in time but they swap out the glasses for eyecontacts so you can actually see the actors faces for the climax of the movie. And let me tell you I was really questioning how it’s going to go down because this happens literally 15 minutes till the end of the movie and there has been basically no development for it exept a conspiracy theorist and some hideout at a church within the first 5 minutes. But anyway they immiediately trust these people nothing suspicious, no questions asked because there isn’t enough screentime left for them to develop this place anymore. I bet they didnt waste 10 minutes on a streetfight but whatever. The lady shows up and within the movies time it’s only been few hours. Shouldn’t she be recovering from the trauma or whatever? But anyway now she’s working as a spy for these people so maybe she knew about the aliens all along she just didn’t want the main character to spoil her cover? But nope that can go down the drain as when she sees the main character she tells him that she’s sorry for almost killing him and that she “didn’t know”. So I guess she was so freaaked out by this dude she decided to join a secret, rebellion cult within hours of meeting him. Happens to the best of us.

Then all of a sudden their hide out gets attacked and they escape through a secret door, everyone exept the main characters and the love interes die and apparently the entire USA is connected through these wierd looking tunnels because they walk a few meters and they ended up in a tv station where conveniently the girl works at. So they try to jam the tv transmition to tell people there’s an alien take over exactly like the theorist at the start of the movie that no one would listen to but that doesnt work out as the aliens find them and chase them out and they lose the lady in the process. They run a while through the same infinite corridor and find themselves in a purge style rich person gathering with aliens not even hiding what they look like and they are greeted by their boss from the construction works. And honestly you can barely tell it’s him. He had no development and was only shown in like one scene right at the start but thats unimportant. The boss without questioning takes his 2 workers for a trip around the place an within minutes shares all the alien secrets with the 2. Then they kill him. And they go back to jamming the tv station because this movie has no idea how to end the story. Im pretty sure the best friend dies?? Like he’s not at the very end but the main character destroys a satelite and gets stopped by his love interest who he kills because she’s working for the aliens now?? So when they first met and she called the cops it was because she worked with the aliens, and then it makes a lot of sense now that the hideout got destroyed so quickly after she got there. Too bad theres no insight because he immediatelly kills her because ‘duty to the country’ I guess. He destroyes the satelite (again for a tv station) and all of a sudden all the human cloaks the aliens were wearing dissapear without an explanation. The main character dies and achieved basically nothing at the end but now all the humans know aliens exist among them. But what will they do? Will there be a war between the 2 species? Will they make peace because they lived allongside each other for so long anyway? We will never find out because the movie ends there and I’m pretty sure there isnt a sequel to explainn what’s next.

Overall I feel this movie had an amazing concept and a lot of potential that was wasted by a rushed and forgettable plot, uninteresting characters that serve nothing, no foreshadowing hints or anything to how to destroy the aliens or even indication at the end of the film if the humans even won. There was a lot of boring moments like the introduction or the fight that could’ve been much shorter so that the ending can be expanded. It felt like a lot of things happened in this movie because they had to and if they didn’t now what to do with the plot they would extend it up to 10 minutes of literally the same thing over and over. This entire concept was wasted because the first half of the movie is literally a cat and mouse chase of the aliens and one uninteresting character with a gun trying to kill them all with no help. I would’ve much rather instead of rushing the ending like they did and revealing all the aliens if the character focused on gathering people to destroy the aliens from the inside out in a hiddem plot exactly how the aliens took over the Earth. Like they literally spent more then 10 minutes showing the character convince one guy to join his cause why not make that into a plot. And at the start and end of the film they showed groups of people tha already knew about the aliens. They could’ve made the love interest into a double agent or whatever. Make it simpler because there is too much going on and the ending they went with is not satisfying at all and a terrible waste of potential.

-i finally watched the season finale of Supernatural. i kinda skimmed thru several ep’s to get there, im not sure if i even saw the full season. pleasantly surprised by the ending would be a massive understatement. that was easily the best finale since the angels falling at the end of s8. idk what the deal was with that thing staring down at jack, maybe i missed something earlier in the season that would explain it, idk, but i continue to really like jack’s character, he’s sorta been the only interesting part of the show for like 2 or 3 seasons now, whenever it was he was introduced. loved tfw all back to back to back as the monsters they spent all the previous seasons vanquishing surrounded them. absolute perfect music to accompany the scene. the eerie atmosphere in the graveyard and the obvious allusions to past moments of the show? *chef kiss*. i will actually watch the final season after that ending. i have my opinions about dean that i will keep to myself. cas i barely recognize anymore. sam i wish would stand up to dean more but i mean it’s season 14 or whatever so thats obvs not gonna change.

-riverdale. im not all the way caught up on it yet, but i decided to give the show a shot so i could see luke perry, a childhood crush of mine, and was not at all expecting to see skeet ulrich also, a 2nd crush lol. the show instantly hooks you with the mystery. i’m on i believe season 3 now and i can honestly say that ive really fallen in love with many of the characters. lots of stuff makes me roll my eyes, the show is super melodramatic, and there’s way too many teens having sex (god im old, who even says that? old ppl, thats who) but every ep i keep in mind this show is meant for a younger audience, it’s not for me. the singing is cringey every time tho, sorry yikes. and there’s references to 80′s and 90′s pop culture in just about every scene of the show that i can imagine is going right over the younger viewers heads.

-schitt’s creek. omg. if you havent watched it and are trying to think of a show to watch next, please i beg of you, watch this one. it is flawless. absolutely hysterical, i love every character and every ep. i loved it so much that im gonna watch it again. please watch it.

-im gonna combine Oz and The Wire bc the shows are both old af at this point but i finally got amazon prime and was able to watch these two shows that i remember seeing the commercials for when i was barely a teenager and wanting to watch them then. both were great. Oz is def a little dated, but The Wire could air today and prob hold up even better now with all the f’d up corruption going on in the world. The casts for both shows were an endless lineup of huge actors who were just getting started too.
