WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW RIGHT NOW?

I asked my spirit guides what you need to know right now (and I got some weirdass answers), pick a card to find out what they have to tell you.

PILE 1

This was certainly a confusing reading, the first thing I was seeing was someone scrunched up on a couch, holding a telephone to their chest while three people tried to pry it from their hands. I also noticed that there weee hills piling up. Weirdly, the message I was getting was that bills weren’t being paid for the sake of hoarding money, and this person had swapped/sold out their old mobile phone for a much cheaper alternative (telephone) to preserve money.

The cards showed me a story of someone who had made a large sum of money but were hoarding it due to financially unstable beginnings. I see this making the person feel trapped and territorial. When visualising I saw a young firm who was even afraid of the attitude this person had, this may be your child, your inner child or a future child or yours.

Spirit showed me the 10 of pentacles, the empress and the death cards to symbolise that this is something you need to take the time to grow from, and let go of.

With the high priestess and wheel of fortune I can see that you can continue/start spending that money that you need to be spending and the universe will continue to give you the money as a reward if you allow it.

But do not overindulge.

I asked for some confirmation, and I got the word “liver”. After research I learnt that you can remove 90% of the liver and it will still grow back to its full size. I see this as a message to tell you not to worry about the loss and focus on what can be built up again.

PILE 2

Firstly, for visuals I saw a girl and a guy (gender doesn’t matter for this) inside an arcade, the guy stood by while the girl won a teddy bear from the claw machine (a notoriously hard game to win). After she had won it, the guy proceeded to try and steal the machine. The girl stood on lookout but was against the idea. She then pulled him out of the arcade and berated him for his stupidity - he however, did not care. After a little while they had calmed down and she asked him to go on the helter skelter (is that how you spell it?) He then flat out refused, not having a care for her desire.

I can see that this connection isn’t one you want to keep, whether this is family, friends, or even a partner, I can tell that this person doesn’t understand you and doesn’t plan on trying to anytime soon. The claw machine felt like an easy way to your heart and instead of taking the time to try their best at winning you another teddy, which would take time, money and effort, they resulted to trying to steal it. They didn’t care about the consequences of getting caught because they never seem to think ahead. They tend to live in the moment and that can get them in trouble.

To me the helter skelter represented the lengths that you would go for them (since it’s quite high up and I’m personally terrified of heights.) And you would take that journey to climb the stairs, get to the top and then make your way down the slide, meanwhile they were not willing to do this for you.

The cards tell me a similar story, I see a selfish individual that gives only what they can gain, this means materially you can have everything, but emotionally, they offer nothing close to what you desire. You’re willing to work on the relationship but they are not. This causes gossip and instability, it leaves you up at early hours of the morning upset.

I would recommend standing your ground and realising your worth so you can finally walk away.

Clear it! The strongest Chemy catching game!!

In order to seal the 101 Chemies released into this world onto cards, Houtarou Ichinose (Kamen Rider Gotchard) searches for Chemies every day with his friends from the Alchemy Academy. One day, he meets Ace Ukiyo (Kamen Rider Geats) fighting against some Jyamato monsters. Behind the scenes is Chemy X Wizard, a level number 10 supreme wizard.

Kamen Rider's Winter film will be released again this year, featuring a dream collaboration of Kamen Riders from different series. The main highlight includes Houtarou and other Gotchard members, and Ace and other Geats members being divided into teams to take on the ultimate Chemy catching game. It's the unique charm of this work that features the familiar search for Chemies from Gotchard, and the characteristics of Geats, where Kamen Riders do challenging games, which have been "combined!" The dialogue between the characters of Gotchard and Geats that you can't normally see on TV is a must see!

The presence of Geats Chemy, who looks exactly like Kamen Rider Geats, is also a point of interest. Centering around X Wizard and Geats Chemy, the drama between humans and Chemies, which is the real appeal of Gotchard, is depicted on a scale that only a film can provide. What will the encounter with the new Chemy and Ace and his group bring to Houtarou and his friends?

"Double" the expected chemistry!

-Is Spanner, a mood maker, the complete opposite of the person playing the role?-

"The first quarter has passed since the broadcast started, what has the response been?"

Motojima: I feel that the number of messages of support have gradually increased. At talk events, there were those who would say to me, "I'm cheering for you," and those who brought support fans (uchiwa), and I think I'm starting to actually realize it myself. It makes me incredibly happy.

Matsumoto: I have the feeling that I'm gradually getting used to being on set. I'm now trying to expand my range of acting by taking on new challenges every day, and reviewing my own performance to see how I can improve it.

Fujibayashi: As the story progresses, there'll be more scenes that delve deeper into each character's individuality. My desire to see the stories we've filmed, including this film, as soon as possible has become stronger since the broadcast started.

Abe: Up until now, I haven't appeared regularly in dramas, so I was really happy, and when I heard a kid next to me on the train talking about Gotchard, I thought, "What a great response!"

Fujibayashi: Did they realize that you were Renge?

Abe: I don't think they noticed (laughs). I'll do my best to get them to notice!

Tomizono: At first, when I played the role I thought, "Who is Sabimaru…" But, as he interacts with Houtarou and the others, I gradually felt that I was building up my own image of Sabimaru's character. I'd like to carefully build up Sabimaru's growth in the future, and I want to do my best to make tablets more popular (laughs).

Kumaki: It seems that there are events at kindergartens and other places where they hand out Gotchard cards, and my friends send me pictures of their children receiving the cards. When I see this, I realize that I'm creating these children's dreams, and that joy is my driving force.

"For the photo shoot, we got the impression that Fujibayashi-san was at the center, and that everyone else had a relaxed mood, but is Fujibayashi-san also "in charge" of things on set?"

Fujibayashi: No, I don't think that's the case.

Tomizono: He's got so much energy, and I feel like he raises everyone's spirits.

Abe: That's for sure!

Motojima: Even when we greet each other at 5 a.m., I can't believe how energetic he is.

Kumaki: It's so early in the morning that everyone else isn't fully awake yet.

Fujibayashi: Lately, I've been paying attention to everyone's mood and greeting them in a calmer manner.

Everyone: (laughs).

Kumaki: You've become an adult, huh?

Fujibayashi: I've become an adult (laughs).

Motojima: But, when we're filming early in the morning, having Yasu-kun (Fujibayashi) around makes me feel more energetic.

-Appearing together with Geats, filming was peaceful from start to finish-

Motojima: It's interesting that we're teamed up with those who have similar personalities. Houtarou and Tycoon, Rinne and Geats, Spanner and Buffa. I think that because of our similarities, we can relate to each other, and there's some good "chemical reactions."

Matsumoto: I've been working with Kan Hideyoshi-san for a long time, and I was trying to take in things from Kan-san's acting that I could apply to Rinne. Also, Houtarou falling into a trap so fast was so funny, that I laughed during the test takes (laugh).

Motojima: When I read the script, I thought to myself, "That's just like Houtarou….." (laughs). I thought it was charming because he has a childlike quality that's different from the Houtarou in the TV show.

Abe: When we were filming, I remember that it was very windy (laughs).

Tomizono: The sandy beach scene of our capture game was the first scene filmed of the movie. The wind was strong and it was raining quite abit. Furthermore, Na-Go Chemy gets covered in seaweed (laughs).

Abe: That's right (laughs). I feel like alot of the scenes with Na-Go Chemy were filmed with lots of imagination.

Tomizono: There was also something about jet planes. It was fun to film.

Abe: We were the imagination team (laughs).

Fujibayashi: In that sense, Buffa Chemy and I were both part of the imagination solo team.

Tomizono: I guess so (laughs).

Fujibayashi: Both Spanner and Buffa's theme color is purple, and they also have slightly stuck up personalities, so when the film was announced, there were many people on SNS who were looking forward to us appearing together. The interactions between the two of them are very interesting, so I hope you'll look forward to it.

"In a scene with Kugimiya Licht, Minato was depicted in his teacher's attaire."

Kumaki: I remember well the first time I greeted Motomiya Yasukaze-san, who plays Licht. Despite him being about 4-5 meters away (13-16 ft), I felt an overwhelming aura that made me feel like he was right in front of me.

Everyone: (laughs)

Kumaki: I was alittle nervous (laughs), but once I gathered up my courage and greeted him, he was very kind to me. I felt a sense of security all at once, and performed with the intention of receiving advice from my senior.

"What's your most memorable experience working with the Geats team?"

Abe: There was a part where I could feel the experience of working on a project for a year. In a scene where a drone is used, Mokudai Kazuto-san noticed a mark (for where to stand) and asked the staff, "Is this okay?" We weren't paying attention to it, so it's amazing that he noticed it instantly and acted accordingly.

Tomizono: We'd never met before, but they created an atmosphere where we felt comfortable talking to them and had alot of fun. During breaks, we'd play games where you have to hold back your laughter. Kan-kun is also from the Kansai region, so we got along really well, and were able to film in a really friendly atmosphere.

Matsumoto: Everyone was very kind, and I remember that they talked to us alot.

Abe: It was easy to talk to them.

Fujibayashi: The two of you had a girls night out with Tsumuri (Aoshima Kokoro) and Neon (Hoshino Yuna).

Matsumoto: That's right.

Abe: We had some girl talk.

Tomizono: I'm sure you did.

Fujibayashi: What did you talk about?

Matsumoto: Things like painting nails, perfume and other stuff.

Motojima: To be honest, I've been paying alot of attention to my appearance lately, and I've been asking Matsumoto-san and Abe-san alot of questions.

Matsumoto: It's true

Motojima: When Tsumuri-san heard about this, she set up a prank for the makeup artists to teach me fake beauty info. I was completely fooled.

Everyone: (laughs).

Motojima: I also felt that everyone from Geats did things very freely. They included adlibs, and there's a scene where Ace says, "I'm glad I was turned into this," but it was interesting to see Ace say things in a way that he'd never do during test takes. I thought he was very good at keeping the atmosphere on set peaceful.

Tomizono: But, when it was a real take, it was really cool.

Motojima: That's right! There was an incredible difference.

-Becoming a level ... Chemy?!-

"In this work, the Geats members are turned into Chemies, but if you could become a Chemy, what would you want to look like?"

Fujibayashi: Because It's obvious what I'd be, I probably don't need to say it.

Motojima: What do you mean?

Fujibayashi: I could only be a spanner.

Matsumoto: Ah!

Tomizono: If not a spanner, what Chemy would Yasu become instead?

Fujibayashi: None, I can't think of anything else.

Tomizono: You've become Spanner Chemy. What do you do?

Fujibayashi: Loosen the screws in people's heads.

Everyone: (laughs).

Fujibayashi: Everyone becomes so stupid, that they forget how to transform and can no longer speak Japanese.

Abe: That's terrible (laughs). That'd make you the strongest, wouldn't it?

Tomizono: What'll happen if you combine with another Chemy?

Fujibayashi: Valvarad uses it, not Gotchard.

Tomizono: I see.

Fujibayashi: Sabimaru would be a tablet, right?

Tomizono: (laughs). As Tomizono, I'd like a Chemy that's really cool. Like a dragon, but softer.

Fujibayashi: Like something you'd find on a souvenir from a school field trip?

Tomizono: Right, like something on a keychain.

Fujibayashi: I think children would love that.

Tomizono: That's good. I want to appear like that as a level 10 Chemy.

Motojima: I want to become a level 100 Chemy.

Everyone: (laughs).

Motojima: I want to be treated like a legend.

Matsumoto: What would I be? Maybe a bird?

Abe: Ah!

Tomizono: Is that what you wanted?

Abe: I've been beat.

Fujibayashi: But, it depends on the type of bird.

Matsumoto: Hmmm…a crow?

Fujibayashi: A crow, huh? I'd like to own one atleast once.

Tomizono: People say they're smart.

Abe: They're said to have the intelligence of 5 year olds.

Fujibayashi: Well then, they're smarter than me.

Everyone: (laughs).

Tomizono: Is there a reason why you went with a bird?

Matsumoto: I think it'd be nice to fly across the open sky. The wind would feel great too.

Abe: You get it!

Matsumoto: And crows are cool, aren't they? That's why I want to be Crow Chemy.

Fujibayashi: Oto-chan, what kind of bird would you like to be?

Abe: I want to be a black kite.

Tomizono: A black kite?

Abe: When I was little, I remember them because they used to attack me alot when I went camping. When I’d be eating a meal, they'd suddenly snatch it away. They're agile, can fly, and they can enjoy scenery that we can't normally see.

Fujibayashi: I want to steal someone's food.

Abe: Right, right.

Tomizono: Really? (laughs).

Abe: I think black kite's are the strongest.

Fujibayashi: What about Kuma-san?

Kumaki: Because of Bumblebee, I like cars.

Fujibayashi: Ah, from "Transformers."

Kumaki: I think it would be cute if I were a Chemy that looked like Bumblebee.

Tomizono: Would you be a transforming Chemy?

Kumaki: Yeah, I'd transform.

Motojima: I think that'll be in the show sooner or later.

Kumaki: When will it appear?

Fujibayashi: It'd be alot like Golddash.

Kumaki: Ah! That's right!

Motojima: Then, it'll be like a car version of Golddash!

Motojima: I think the highlight is that the character's charm, which is different from the TV show, is brought out by interacting with the Kamen Rider Geats members. Many of the strongest level number 10 Chemies appear, and the development where humans turn into Chemies is also unexpected, it's unexpected plus unexpected twice expected��….it's like unexpected x2.

Tomizono: So double expected?

Fujibayashi: Are you saying…it's going to turn out to be more than expected?

Motojima: Ah, that sounds good.

Fujibayashi: You just said it yourself. You bite your tongue?

Tomizono: Did you mispronounce something?

Motojima: Well uh, it turned out to be more than I expected…

Everyone: (laughs).

Motojima: The unpredictable development of the story is appealing, and the fact that it features Chemies that can talk is also a key point.

Abe: Agreed.

Motojima: Please watch out for how Houtarou and his friends will interact with the talking Chemies, which have yet to appear in the TV show!

hiii! I'm the anon that left that really lengthy rant in your inbox about megumi's character lol apologies for that. I mostly wrote it fresh out of the frustration of chapter 269 so now that it's ended I took the time to sit down and read your post. I don't think the points I said earlier were wrong, moreso phrased wrong; let me elaborate:

first off, I really liked your post and did agree with the majority of your points of what megumi's character is supposed to be in the story, but I'm still miffed about it because while you say characters like Gojo and Geto and (presumably) Yuuji and Megumi come in a set, they all still have a very individualistic presence and character arc in the story, except Megumi. While their character arcs depend on each other, they as characters could still stand on their own in writing. like, sure Gojo and Geto are a matched set, but their presence in each other's stories support their characters, while not overshadowing their roles in the story individually. Gojo and Geto's effect on each other is very palpable through the story and you see them effected deeply by what happened, but they still exist with their own unique characteristics and character arcs and goals. even Yuuji could exist invidiually as a character without Megumi. He has other relationships, other people, other moments— hell, most of Yuuji's shining moments happen away from Megumi entirely. his character has shined multiple times by itself.

while for Megumi, I feel his presence in the story entirely depends on Yuuji without it being able to exist on its own now. At the start it wasn't as apparent, and he did have some character moments, but they were very few and far in between, and 9/10 had something to do with Yuuji. by Shinjuku, his presence in the story was just removed entirely and you're only reminded that he's even a factor in the story because of Yuuji bringing him up.

and yeah it's fine to live for others, I would've actually liked him living for yuuji if its execution matched up. Compare how Yuuji's "breaking away from individualism to embrace the presence of my loved ones and living for the moments between them" to how Megumi panned out. it just seems sloppy in comparison. While yuuji did sorta go through the same character arc as megumi by learning to rely on others again, there's still a sense of self in Yuuji's realization. he's still an individual that could exist independently and still live for his loved ones if that makes sense. but Megumi's just seemed half-assed, like his character as a whole now just can't exist on its own without having someone supporting it.

And I guess it works well for jujutsu's encompassing theme of collectivism, but i feel his character's own arc and issues that should've been resolved were sacrificed for the sake of this message. Megumi had always been someone who had a shit sense of self-worth and was passively suicidal and couldn't value his life at all. I would've at the very least liked if we got any resolution on that, even if he chose to live for someone else, at least he started to add SOME value on his own life even if miniscule, but it seems he just hinged it entirely on Yuuji, which had been the problem since the start (he was valuing everyone else too much that he forgot to value himself at all) I don't know, maybe it's the wording. saying "I'll live for others" so definitively without any sort of self-reflection seen from megumi after 266 just rings hollow for me. I really would've liked, if nothing else, megumi for once got to exist as a character on its own for two seconds. instead his only character moment throughout the entire arc takes up two pages of saying his dream life (that he never achieved btw) before yuuji's compassion encompasses the chapter entirely. and the next time we see him, it's with this dialogue with sukuna that I just personally don't like that lasts for a few panels before it's just over, where he seemed to just have figured everything out already and got over it all.

I just didn't like the conversation between him and Sukuna in general, it seemed so generic and one-note compared to Yuuji and Sukuna's and compared to the buildup and character sukuna and Megumi previously had pre-posession but I'm not gonna go into that rant now lol

actually, I would've liked if any of his issues (identity, self-worth issues, suicidal & sacrificial tendancies) he had since the start were discussed in any capacity, but it just looks like his decision to live for yuuji seems like a quick bandaid slapped on his character to wrap it up without discussing anything else in length, especially since he, yknow, lost his entire autonomy, killed his sister and mentor, and hurt his friends. I would've liked the effects of that discussed but it just seems largely ignored.

and I kinda agree and disagree with your "being more selfish like gojo and sukuna point" while I did want him to be more selfish, I didn't want it to the extent of someone like gojo, I just wanted something. megumi's character represented an opposing extreme to characters like sukuna and gojo wherein he's selfless, he doesn't take, he only needs, he never indulges, he cares about others more than himself. while gojo and sukuna had a strong sense of self, he didn't have one at all. I wanted that, too, to be resolved by him thinking about himself for himself by himself just once in the entire series. not sukuna and gojo terms of selfish, but some sort of selfishness. I wanted him to finally take, want, indulge, care about himself just once.

and I was never someone who wanted him to unlock his full potential— in fact, I wanted him to ditch jujutsu society entirely. it had always been a cause of misery for him, it had clearly stunted him, i wanted him to entirely escape from the path Gojo laid out for him by finally leaving it behind and having the simple life he wanted in 266. but. he just returns to missions and sorcery as if nothing even happened. so if the point of his character is to not set out the path Gojo set for him, why is he walking in it anyway? why is he still a jujutsu sorcerer? it sends me mixed signals because at the end of the day megumi never really did gain any agency. he never had a choice. he returned to jujutsu immediately anyway, despite it being a source of misery for him. so, what is the point really? what did he go through all of this for? he still never gained any agency back. the fact he's still a sorcerer is what's souring the fact that the only thing he did was a puddle lmao like if he had left jujutsu, It would've been easier to swallow because he never even wanted to fight anyway, but now that he still is one it just makes that puddle being the only thing he did that much worse lmao

and I never viewed his domain as him achieving his full potential. it was always a representative of his character. and symbolised his sense of self since domains come from the soul and your interpretation of your technique. so for it to just never be unlocked at all in the story is still a terrible writing decision, no matter how many "he's not supposed to achieve his potential" posts I see. bc it's not ab feats it's about what it represents symbolically for him.

this is all I could think of right now sorry for it being long again. I'm still not satisfied with the way he was handled at all. I get what gege is going for and what you're trying to show me, but the execution simply just didn't hold up for me. it feels very sloppy, rushed, and empty.

Sorry, friend I'm not sure how entirely to respond to this since a lot of this comes down to the difference of our opinions. I'm glad you took the time to write out your opinion on Megumi to me though, since I always like discussing my favorite characters. It was still good for me to read through.

However, at the moment I'm not super interested in discussing whether or not Jujutsu Kaisen is GOOD as in how well it executed its themes and characters, when like what it was trying to say with those themes and characters is more interesting to me.

I do agree with a lot of what you said, and as a megumi corruption arc truther I also wish we could have gotten more. If I have to explain why none of this is a deal breaker for me, post Shibuya I basically accepted that Jujutsu Kaisen was no longer a story that went into depth witih it's characters. Every character conflict kind of gets dropped in order to moving its massive cast around through the plot. See how there's like, no arguments, no fights, no differening agendas on the protagonists side they just all work with perfect cohesion as a unit to the point where it's like no one really has opinions or thoughts in their heads.

I just sort of accepted after Maki killed the Zen'in clan and nobody had any opinion on that that all character conflict was going to be dropped and this was going to be an entirely plot driven story from now on. Jujutsu Kaisen's ending didn't disappoint me since it's within the range of what I expected. I wish it could have been more too but I appreciate what we got.

I try to! I love engaging with my readers and other members of the fandom. Every comment always makes my whole day. Life gets busy sometimes, so I don't always have the time to respond to every single one, but I definitely see and appreciate all of them!

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Usually my fics have fairly hopeful endings, but "3 Years Ago," a pre-canon Murdered: Soul Suspect fic might fit the bill. Sometime in the future, it has the potential to be topped by "Will of the People," a Fallout 4 WIP that revolves around the Diamond City anti-ghoul riots.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

My Secret Santa fics, "It's Not the Fall" and "Flawed Phials," definitely have the fluffiest endings!

7. Do you write crossovers?

Nope!

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I get rude or condescending comments on occasion from people who don't know how to hit the back button and/or are unfamiliar with fandom etiquette, though nothing actively malicious. The one time I received a transphobic/homophobic message in response to TMW it was private (if it was public, I would have deleted it; I don't give a platform to that kind of thing at all), and honestly I hope that person is in a better place now because they really didn't seem okay at the time. I'm fortunate that the vast majority of my readers and mutuals are such wonderfully amazing and kind people.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, BUT, before you get too excited, not in The Mad Witch. Smut is by definition graphic, and TMW has a Teen rating that shall remain unchanged.

The smut scenes I've drafted so far (F/F and F/M) are for my Rosemary Reaper series (post-canon Fallout 4 WIP). Those fics will all be rated Mature, so while not overly explicit, they'll definitely be spicier than TMW. Maybe I'll share a snippet sometime if there's any demand for it.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of?? I have long since deleted my Wattpad account, so my fics should only be on AO3. If anyone ever finds one of my fics elsewhere in the wild, please let me know.

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I have not, which is probably for the best. I would like to make some heavy edits to the beginning of TMW when I'm done with it.

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not a fic, though I have co-written a short fantasy story with a friend, with him writing for one POV character and me for another. We agreed on major actions and story beats, but we each kept a major secret that we didn't reveal until after we had written our individual parts. It was a lot of fun (though we were both painfully unskilled at the time).

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I don't know if I really have one. I have ships I enjoy and characters I like to pair with OCs, though nothing I feel properly obsessive over. This might be a consequence of primarily writing for video game fandoms. But I do have my default game romances: Merula in HPHM, Piper in Fallout 4, Marcurio in Skyrim, etc. I'm also a sucker for unrequited love interests, like Serana in Skyrim and Aveline in Dragon Age 2. The ANGST.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I never want to say never because I'm currently 83,435 words into the last fic I said I would never write. But there are two fics that I'm almost certain I will never finish, which I'm kind of sad about: my post-canon Murdered: Soul Suspect longfic, A Certain Darkness, and my RWBY OC team longfic, DSRT.

I made it just shy of 200,000 words into A Certain Darkness before I had to drop it. My writing skills ended up surpassing the progress I had made, and by the time I realized how many characters, relationships, and plot points were just straight up bad, I had written myself into a corner. I do love Joy and Angel so much, a medium/ghost duo with way more homoerotic tension than my closeted teenage self ever intended. Maybe one day I'll gut the story, drop the characters into a different setting, and make it something original. One day.

DSRT ran into a similar problem, though fortunately I only ever wrote the first few chapters. I could probably reattempt it if I really wanted, but with the overwhelming number of WIPs I already have, it's hard to imagine finding the time. I do miss my team of teenage idiots: Dustin, Saul, Rosemary, and Talos. It was supposed to have a really tragic ending too, which I don't often get to write.

15. What are your writing strengths?

I often receive compliments on how human I make my characters feel, which is the highest honor anyone could give. I've been told my dialogue frequently flows smoothly too.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Conciseness. Why is this post so long omg.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Do it carefully and with necessity. Maybe a character is bilingual and blends languages, so it's part of their characterization. Maybe a password or spell needs to be said in another language because it's old or pretentious. It can work, but it can also be easy to mess up. I personally avoid writing dialogue in languages I don't have a good grasp of, or I try to consult other people if I do (not Google Translate, which sucks).

There's also the matter of if the POV character even understands the language being spoken. If they don't, then I don't write the language out (unless it's a phrase the character is going to learn later on). In these instances, it makes more sense to write something like, "The man muttered a phrase in a language she didn't recognize," or "She fired off something in Spanish, the words too quick to catch."

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Star Wars the Clone Wars, baby! I was like ten or eleven. Never published, but my worldbuilding for that longfic (a saga, more like) was insanely elaborate. Alas, another story for the WIP graveyard.

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

Eventually, I want to get back to my Skyrim WIP, which includes a main Dragonborn/Marcurio ship. Maybe even with a little Dragonborn/Serana infidelity on the side (which Marcurio absolutely does not deserve, the poor guy).

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I mean, I have to say The Mad Witch, don't I? That fic is where my community is, where every time I post a chapter I have a ton of people who get excited about it with me. It is the story I think about constantly, that I have spent literal years writing and daydreaming about. No matter what I've written before or will write since, this will be the defining fic in my journey as a writer.

That, and I have a special fondness for "Case by Case." I just think it's neat.

‘Wow, Mae, you really captured Uncle Doyoung’s spirit there,’ Mark grins.

Maeve holds up her Christmas card for Doyoung proudly, showing off the rabbit with a Santa hat she’d drawn on the front with ‘Merry Christmas Doyoung Samchon’ written in messy toddler handwriting on the front.

‘Although, I think we need to work on your Hangul. You wrote Samchon in English..’

Maeve just looks sheepish, putting the card into the finished pile and grabbing another plain one to start.

This was a Lee household yearly tradition. The kids would sit down at the dining table, cover it with pens, glitter and whatever crafting materials they could get their hands on, and make cards for family and friends.

When it came to the sheer amount of NCT members, it was a full on operation. The members had been randomly assigned to each of your three children, who would make their cards. You and Mark would write the inside messages once they were finished and all the glue and or paint had dried. 

‘Wait, why does Maeve get Uncle Johnny?’ Noah whines once he notices Johnny’s name on Maeve’s list. 

‘It’s random, No,’ you explain, ‘it’s fair that way.’

‘But I wanted to make Uncle Johnny’s card,’ he pouts.

‘Buddy, the card will still be from you, and Uncle Johnny will know that,’ Mark rubs Noah’s back with his hand, ‘how about you make a really pretty card for Uncle Taeyong, huh? I bet he’d love a really glittery one!’

‘Daddy, can we come to work with you and give Uncles their cards?’ Noah asks, wanting to see his beloved Uncle’s reactions to his work. 

‘Of course, how about you and mummy/mommy drop me off tomorrow, and we can give them to Uncles then?’

‘Yay!’ Noah cheers, accidentally knocking over a pot of silver glitter.

‘Uncle Ten!’ Maeve runs into the practice room, barrelling towards the first member she sees.

‘Mae!’ He exclaims with equal excitement, wrapping the small girl into a big hug.

‘Sorry to interrupt your practice, guys,’ you apologise, knowing that all of the members are gathered to rehearse for their end of year project. 

‘It’s all good,’ Jungwoo, the closest person to you grins, ‘it’s nice to have a break.’

He catches Maeve’s eye, his face suddenly lighting up, immediately dropping to his knees to offer a hug, ‘and to see my Yeoreum!’

‘Ah, Minjun-ah,’ Jaemin squats down to greet Noah, ‘what’s that you’ve got?’

Noah holds out the envelope with both hands, a messy ’Nana’ scrawled across the front. 

‘Ah, thank you,’ Jaemin always saves his aegyo for his favourite nephews and niece, his Mark’s children.

‘This one’s for you, Uncle Yangyang,’ Maeve hands Yangyang his card.

‘Wow, thank you MaeMae, you’re so kind,’ Yangyang, who has crouched down to her level, peels the envelope open, laughing when he sees the sheep with the Christmas hat drawn on it.

‘I like how the sheep is pink and glittery,’ he adds, pulling her into a hug, ‘I love it, thank you Mae.’ 

The members fuss over the kids, each giving very exaggerated but genuine reactions to their individual cards.

‘Ah, Hyungjun-ah, thank you,’ Chenle fist bumps Lucas, ‘you write in Chinese so well.’

‘It’s from the lessons you gave me,’ Mark chimes in teasingly, and the two men laugh as Lucas huffs.

‘Yeoreum-ie, your art is so good!’ Yuta fusses over Maeve, who blushes and squirms at his compliment over her drawing of him next to a Christmas Tree.

‘Don’t get all embarrassed!’ he teases, poking her side, before turning to Sicheng who’s standing beside him and commenting, ’so cute.’

When Lucas notices Johnny holding his own card, he walks over to talk to his favourite Uncle.

’Tell Jude-hyung that I’ll give him his card the next time I see him,’ Lucas tells Johnny, ‘I don’t want him to think I’ve forgotten about him when you bring that one home.’

‘Will do buddy, I’m sure you’ll see him when the school holidays start.’

‘Are you guys not going to Chicago?’ Lucas tilts his head in confusion.

‘Not ’til the twentieth,’ Johnny explains, ‘you guys should arrange to hang out. In real life, not just on the Xbox or whatever it is.’

Lucas just shrugs, embarrassed at being called out, and Johnny chuckles.

‘I’m just messing with you, go on, go give Uncle Seunghan his card.’

‘They’re so sweet, Hyung,’ Jisung remarks, watching the scene alongside Mark, ‘so crazy I’ll have one of my own in a few months.’

’They’re a handful,’ Mark shakes his head, still smiling, ‘but I love them more than anything.’

At that moment, Noah runs up to Jisung, clutching Jisung’s own card. 

In a corner, several members are gathered comparing cards, Doyoung throughly enjoying Maeve’s rabbit drawing while Xiaojun praises Noah’s reindeer.

‘Thank you, Noah, I’ll keep it forever,’ Taeyong reads the message inside of his card, on which Noah has drawn a polar bear wearing a lime green (’NCT colour!’) scarf.

‘Will you really?’ Noah gasps, shocked that his Uncle would treasure his creation for so long.

‘Of course, because my Minjun-ie made it for me!’

Eventually, all of the cards are distributed, and the three Lee children sit against the mirror and watch as the members go through their dance performance for the year. 

‘What did you think, Mae?’ Hendery bends down to ask, face showing a picture of pure joy when she begins bouncing on her feet and enthusiastically chatting about what she likes about the song and the choreography.

‘Come on kids, say goodbye to your Uncles. We’ll get out of your hair now, leave you to practice,’ you start gathering up your things, leaving the three of your children to say goodbye to all of the members.

’See you when you get home,’ you give Mark a quick hug, pressing a chaste kiss to his cheek as to allow him to avoid unnecessary teasing from his members. 

‘Bye bye little Lees,’ Ten and the rest of the members wave you all out of the room.

‘Now, kids,’ you announce once you’re fully in the corridor, ‘let’s go and harass Uncle Minseok.’

For me, it means not paying attention to what others say about us! Although I know it is difficult for many people to ignore rumours or bad comments, you should not worry about something that is not true, the people who love you and are around you will always know the truth, no matter if they are 10 or 1 person, I even mean yourself. The person who has the ultimate decision is ourselves, no matter how many people say something that is not true, if we hold on to what we are slow or fast the truth will come out and there will even be people defending you.

What kind of life do I envision to live in the future:

The kind of life I envision living in the future is a life where I can be myself. In the past there were many things I didn't do because of my financial situation, out of sorrow or fear, and things I did that I didn't want to do, but I knew it would make my family happy. In the future, I foresee being able to do all those things I couldn't do, being more financially stable, losing the sorrow and fear. I can say that I foresee being more free by being myself, and of course, being happy with my life with my family, with friends, with a partner (maybe), and finding new things I enjoyed, and moving of the things I don't.

Circumstances in which you meet your fs

There's no particular situation I'm getting when it comes to meeting your fs, but rather a personal journey or self-discovery, a process that will help you cross paths with him. So maybe you are going to be in a phase where you are going through a lot of indecision, inner conflict and even a lack of direction. You are just sitting trying to think of what you should do, how you should do it, but still worrying about making the right choice. This could be about a relationship, life situation, work/study situation. A lot of mental processing and agony but eventually you walk away from all the things that no longer align with you and your vision for life. You will be healing yourself and walking towards better opportunities and this shift is very significant because it will also guide you towards your future spouse. The moment you decide to get up and walk away from the things that are no longer serving a purpose in your life, you are going to be met with so many new opportunities to grow and expand. This could be about travelling to a new place or just broadening your vision, dreaming big, having a broad and articulate vision/perspective on how you want your life to be. You are going to meet your fs when you are open to all these opportunities, when you are taking chances and just exploring life with a burning passion. I think this is quite a big transformation because it involves your mindset, emotions and your actions so it's very much an internal process and self discovery and growth that will lead you to your fs. Since there's a lot of personal growth involved you could meet them when you are doing activities that are outside your comfort zone, for example solo-travelling, attending events and conferences, joining clubs and exploring new things.

This is an intuitive message, so I could be very wrong lol 🫣😅 A singing career can be involved. Pls disregard if it doesn't resonate🫠

Supertown Popularity Poll Results

So. The polls are over. All 90 of them. You can still find the list here if you want to see the breakdown of each individual poll, but what you need to know is that each islander was pitted against each other islander in every one of the 90 ways that can happen, so each islander showed up in 18 polls. I decided early on that nobody got a point in the event of a tie. Here are the final scores, in order from highest to lowest:

Out of curiosity, I decided to see what the scores would be if a tie gave a point to each contestant instead of to neither. These were the results:

Despite what I said in the initial post on the subject, most polls did not end in ties or have zero votes. There were 15 that did. So 75 polls had a clear winner.

I could play around with the numbers even more if I wanted to. For example, what happens if ties gave half a point to each islander? But I won't. I also won't say what the results would have been if I had voted in the polls that ended in a tie. I was tempted. I really, really wanted to vote in some of these, just to do it. Just to let my own opinion influence things. Given how few votes each poll had, I could have really swayed things, I think. That's why I didn't ever vote. I really wanted to know who people liked the most.

And it's Ankha, of course.

Every so often, someone will find my blog through one of its tags and mass like a couple hundred of my posts that feature a certain character. This year, that happened at least three times that I noticed with Ankha. I wound up having to block one person who kept messaging me over and over about Ankha. I've never blocked anyone before this year. It was upsetting. I'm still upset about it. It kind of tarnishes the fact that she won this whole popularity contest for me.

I should be happier about it. This was a grand experiment that lasted nearly eight months, and I saw it through. And I've said before that Ankha is one of my favorite islanders, and that I had her in my Population: Growing game decades (literally, two decades) ago. So I like Ankha. She's a cute little yellow cat with a funny hat. What's not to like about her?

I'm also glad Chief did as well as he did. Chief is new to me. I only had him in this game on a whim: I liked the fact that his design made me think of certain middle-aged gay men I've known who are doing their best to age gracefully but are, undeniably, aging anyway. That's as much thought as I put into it. I'm sad Cally didn't do well. I had Cally early on in my New Leaf days, and I gave her away to someone who promised I'd be able to visit her again someday and then removed their blog from Tumblr and I never saw Cally again. It was sad. I think about that from time to time.

Something a bit similar happened with Henry: I had him in my New Leaf town, and I gave him away to someone whose blog is no longer active and who didn't post about him. Oh well. I didn't mind that as much. I like Henry alright, but he's never been one of my favorites. I'm fine with how badly he did in the polls.

I don't have any big conclusions here. This went, well, it honestly did go better than I expected for it to in a lot of ways. I kept holding out hope that maybe this blog would finally, after about ten years on this site, pick up a few followers and get me over that 1600-follower mark (I've had 1500-something followers for over six years--every time I gain a few followers, I lose a few), but I'm not willing or able to do what it takes to go viral. These are the kinds of posts I make.

I'm very grateful to the followers I have who stick around, liking and occasionally reblogging my stuff on a regular basis.

Those are in no particular order. I just went to my blog's activity page and scrolled down through a week or two's worth of notes until I saw all the usual folks I remember.

But, even though we don't talk, I appreciate you for being here for so long. It's easy to say that I don't do this for the notes, and I don't, really, but it's nice, you know? To see that there are folks out there who like what I put out there.

I'm going to be honest with you. I've given this a lot of thought. I think it's time I stepped away from Animal Crossing for a while. Focused on other things.

This isn't goodbye. It's just a hiatus. There are a few days of posts left in the queue, and then this blog will go silent, and I'm going to write some kind of actual message a little while after that sorting out my thoughts after ten years and one month of running this blog, which started on September 8, 2013. That's too long. Too, too long to have written anywhere from 4 to 10 posts a day. My activity page says 22,643 before I post this. Probably more than 22,000 of those were original, written by me, that is, not reblogs.

I'll be around. I have a main blog. @ozai has even liked a couple of my posts there, so I'm pretty sure they know about it. It's mentioned at the top of this one, even on mobile. So it's not a secret. It's right there. I write about other things there than Animal Crossing. Lately, it's been mostly about the novel I've spent the last three and a half years working on. I might actually have it done in another two years or so! Won't that be exciting? Then I can shut up about it and start writing about the next one.

I also wrote a few thousand words about Frog, from Chrono Trigger, once. It's not exactly surprising to me that my main blog has never even made it above 70 followers, is my point.

That's enough of this. I'm getting dangerously close to depressing, and I don't want to do that.

Here and now, this experiment, these 90 polls, was a triumph. I stuck with it. Ankha won. Chief came in second. Those are good things. It's good. I'm happy with that. It's the culmination of ten years of work. And it's time for a break.

Thank you so much for saying that. I do love my job, don’t get me wrong, at least the technical aspects of it and we do have some amazing customers. It’s just that there are a huge percentage of them who really are mostly angry at the insurance companies (and I don’t blame them, honestly I do believe prescriptions should be low-cost or covered by the government as should eye and teeth care, especially since all other medical aspects are covered or mostly covered) but because the workers are right there, they take out all that anger on us, which never sits right with me. But it is what it is, though I sure appreciate you saying you’d fight them for me. Most of them are old, I think you stand a good chance, hahaha! The message did come in late, when I had already went to bed, but you know I’d always answer any of your requests very happily! Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?

It’s not that I really prefer one over the other, to be honest. There are big pros and cons to each, to be honest. One-shots are a lot quicker to write, but I’ve admitted I have issues with bloat as a writer. While the idea might start small, once I actually sit down to write it, I find it grows and gets longer and longer, so keeping one-shots small is sometimes a challenge for me. One-shots also don’t allow you to tell as much of a complete story – I tend to view them more as writing an individual scene within something bigger in my head. Multi-chaptered fics definitely allow you room to write a more complete story. However, multi-chaptered fics demand a lot more of a time investment, something I’m often in short supply of, unfortunately, and especially lately. I also find that I’m more prone to writer’s block when focusing on a multi-chaptered fic or I get bored of the idea and need more frequent breaks. When writing one-shots, I tend to finish them and move onto the next thing (except lately, when I’m adding a paragraph here, a paragraph there to multiple things, because my mind is…exhausted, I guess is the best way to put it). When I have a multi-chaptered fic on the go, I find I need to have several other things on the go, writing wise, or else I burn out and get discouraged. There’s also the fact that I fully admit I’m very motivated by interaction and discussion with my readers. I wish I had more writer friends and more time to talk to the writer friends I have lately, because I find that having a solid group of writers to talk to really also helps to keep me motivated as well. But I really do thrive off of interacting, off of getting stuff out that people can read, and a weird quirk of my OCD mind tells me that I cannot start posting a multi-chaptered fic until it’s at least half-way done, preferably hitting more around 60-70% done. That way, I can consistently put out chapters that have already been written in advance, bit by bit, getting that feeling of interaction and motivation to share without feeling pressured to go crazy and spend every second writing the chapters to ensure there’s not huge wait-times in between chapters, as I always do fear and feel guilty if I think the reader’s are left with huge time lapses in between chapters coming out.

Oh, this was a hard one, as my major two WIP’s at the moment are commissions and I will never share even a sentence of commissions unless the person paying for them explicitly tells me I can. The only non-commissioned work is from a multi-chaptered fic I’m writing, kind of for myself, but also in response to an ask, and it’s largely going to get sent to two people for permission before it ever gets seen by the rest of the readers…I sincerely apologize to those two people and will delete this part of the reply if they end up not wanting any of this seen, as their OC’s make kind of appearances in this story.

“Apple blinked, her eyes having to adjust from the darkness of the corridor as she entered the main deck of the ship. She glanced up at the sky, a bright blue without clouds, the sun bright and high in the sky, her skin feeling it’s warmth despite her just having stepped out. She was tempted to just stay still, to bask in the warmth, the light breeze, the smell of the sea, but the worry in the pit of her stomach made her move, her eyes now scanning around. Her eyes finally lighted on Gokudera, though a look at the pissed-off expression on his face made her hesitate in her way to him. Another quick glance around the deck of the ship showed Des leaning against the rail of the ship, her own gaze fixed on Gokudera, a sad expression on her face. Apple might occasionally do something silly or impulsive that others would call stupid, but her mind was very sharp and she was pretty quick to put the pieces together. Her stomach sunk, that pit of worry seeming to grow heavier. So, there was still no sign of Rena, then.”

How do you write smut scenes? Do you get very visual or detailed? How important is it to be realistic?

Okay, first off, I gotta say – I love writing smut. I have to be in the right mood and headspace for it, but it’s something I absolutely adore writing. As far as how I approach writing it, it really depends on the piece itself. Different pieces demand different approaches – sometimes the scene needs to be softer and less ‘lewdly detailed’, I’d guess is how I put it. It needs to focus on the emotions and the moments between the characters than on what’s happening and the reactions of their bodies. Other pieces demand more ‘lewdly detailed’ writing, more description of the act itself, it needs to feel more raw, needy, charged. Porn without plot tends to be the most descriptive, the most hard-core of the smut writing I do but even then, I would like to believe that I still do kind of build up some sexual tension, some good interaction between the characters. As far as visual…I have a really hard time visualizing things inside my head. It feels more like I can hear the words and see the writing, but I have a hard time picturing things. If I really need a reference, I can usually find a porn scene that has the positioning or a brief little bit of it that will help out. As far as realism goes…I would say that, again, it depends on the scene. If the scene requested or what I have in my head includes kinks that aren’t something that can realistically happen (monster fucking, huge belly bulges, etc), I don’t consider realistic things as much. However, when I’m writing regular smut, without those things, I do like to think that I try my best to always consider realism in the scene. I’ll research, I’ll consider what things would honestly feel like, what would work with body types and preferences characters might have, etc. I feel like it just gives the scene that extra ‘ooomph’ and makes it feel a little more polished overall.

Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)

First person perspective, one hundred percent. Even when commissioned, I will try to bargain on it. There are very few things, professional or fan-fic, that do first-person perspective well. I read a lot and honestly, there’s maybe five things I can think of that use first person perspective well. It’s not something that I find appealing and I also don’t like writing it because of that distaste towards it.

How would you describe your style? (Character/emotion/action-driven, etc)

I would like to think that my writing is very character driven because that is what I do aim for. Other than that, it really depends on what I’m writing. Here on the blog, I aim for the posts to feel very organic, natural to the characters, and almost conversational, as I feel it’s more of a conversation between me and the asker instead of me trying to make the asks feel polished, professional, or more academic in nature. With my writing outside of the blog, in terms of stories, I like to aim for character-driven, descriptive writing, stories that help evoke emotions, with moments that feel relatable or hit people in some way.

Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones?

Oh, this is a hard one. My favourite’s really change often, and it’s a question that’s been answered a few times. So I’m really going to focus on the second part of the question. I definitely do think that my favourites can be influenced by the reader’s. If I write for a character quite a bit, they get to feel more and more natural to me and I tend to start feeling closer to me, so when there are trends where the asks are for one particular character more than most, despite how I might have originally felt about them, I do find myself liking that character more and more. I also find that if the posts seem to be really well-received, if people enjoy them a lot, I’m able to push aside personal feelings about the character’s more easily to feel motivated to write about that character.

What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

I like to think that I really put a lot of thought into my writing. I do research whenever needed, I take who a character is into account, I think about the setting itself, the pros and cons of each possible development, etc. I really do try as hard as I can to make sure that when I do write and publish something, it’s as well-thought out and as well-done as I can possibly make it at that moment in time. Is that amount of ‘well-done’ varying from just above crap at my most exhausted to good? Yes. I am the first to admit it. But it’s always the best I can do.

Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project

There is so, so many things I wish I had the time to write. I’d like to finish the story you saw a blurb of above, there’s a mass KHR crossover in my head, there’s the Tsuyoshi story I want to add more to, there’s the delinquent HOMRA stories, there’s a Servamp story I really am excited to do, and I keep playing around with the idea of making a self-shipping side blog and dabbling around with posting some stories over there for my various self-ships. I think that could possibly be fun. There’s also an old collection of smut I’d like to revamp and post under a new pseudonym.

Raph's number in comparison to his bro's is where I expected 12Leo to sit. Percentage-wise the two are essentially the same, but Leo is way behind his mikey whereas raph is only about 40 messages away, which mind you is still a lot but its less noticeable.

Cass is definitely further up because of the times her name is used in the 600 word abandoned draft of an actual fic I mentioned previously, but other than that her being just barely below April is what I guessed. CJ being so close, though, was a surprise.

Next up: who do I write the most.

There was a version of this with every character in the fic, but it is way too eye-hurty and way too long for me to list out each individual character in this post, but here's the simplified version that combines each iteration into one person.

I knew Don was gonna be in first. Hes the fav. Leo being in second? Surprising, but Leon was the most talkative person which is not only on brand but theres also 2 leo cult chapters and I'm always a sucker for some disaster twins. I expected Raph to be 2nd, so him being 4th? Shocker.

I knew the Caseys would be bigger than the April's just because there's an extra one for their possee. I considered making JR his own collumn but decided eh whatever.

I read a translation and explanation of someone (unfortunately I lost the post) who spoke about the Ohm issue and from what I remember I thought the topic was brought up to the school and parents, there were apologies and consequences for Ohm for doing what he did. Of course, the saying boys will be boys is shitty but I think it's difficult to blame someone for doing stupid things almost 10 years ago. Most people will look back on their past and have done something they regret and I think it's unfair to make him out to be the devil just because he is a person in the public eye.

Sorry for the word vomit, I just read a lot of hurtful and hateful words towards Ohm recently and I wonder if I apologise for him too much or if feeling sorry for him is okay too. :(

Totally agree with you. The over emotional involvement should get toned back because once it is discovered that they are actually bad people the fans will either be so troubled or being forgiving when it's not their place to forgive.

@ anon 1 you’re totally free to forgive whoever you want so it’s absolutely fine if you do!! 

Cancel culture is intense but also kinda temporary. the internet gets heated up over something and a few weeks later everything is back to normal. it happens all the time and I’ve seen tons of people who share your opinion that these actors shouldn’t be held accountable for something they did or said 10 years ago and I agree to some extent but it depends on the incident. if someone commented “no homo” on a picture once when they were 13 then that’s no reason to cancel someone in 2023. But in Ohm’s case, what he did is problematic enough for me to remove him from my radar lol. And not just what he did but also the way he reacted to it in his apology, completely missing the point and proving that he has no understanding of how what he did was wrong, not to mention not even apologizing to the victims. Regardless of if and how he got punished back in the day. 

I guess forgiving is easier than cancelling but in my opinion forgiving culture transmits the message that these people can do whatever they want as long as they post some form of an apology because their fans will forgive them no matter what. Has any (bl) celebrity ever gotten cancelled for real to the point where they lose their platform, followers and get fired from their company? no. and that will never happen even though some people deserve it. Which is probably why I’m a bit more resentful when it comes to these things. I’m not saying Ohm should be fired and banned from all social media but... you get my point. 

As I said it’s up to each individual how to react to these things - there’s no cancellation guidelines lol so it’s totally fine if you feel sorry for him. It’s also  harder when there’s an emotional attachment so I get it. But like anon 2 said, it’s a good idea to tone that down (if possible lol) to avoid possible disappointments.

Junk Mail Letters

Mail art started in the late 1950’s pioneered by Dadaists and Italian Futurists, consists of collaged post cards and letters, rubber stamps and bedazzled envelopes.  The main, central trait is that mail art used the postal service - was mailed to other people/artists.  One core person to contemporary mail art is Ray Johnson, who in the 50’s sent “moticos”, collages which sometimes had instructions.  These letters were supposed to be responded to, creating a correspondence chain.

However, its 2023, and post is no longer the primary form of long-form communication: digital messaging is.  With the 21st century, as email and texting becoming more accessible, and with the occurrence of the Global Financial Crisis spanning 2007-2009, the total domestic letters the Australian post has decreased by 65% by 2020/21, and it hasn’t up-ticked in the past two years, especially with the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the economic instability caused by quarantining and non-essential retail closer, the postal service also reduced mail being sent to one another.

I grew up within the declining of postal mail, with the only mail in my childhood (from memory) was Christmas cards and my parents bills, but not really correspondence between family and friends.  Why would you, when you can just call them, or text them?  For a while, I didn’t think about this.  It was just how life is.  But recently, I have been religiously checking my mail, because I’m anticipating a document that is supposed to be mailed to be.  And because I was checking the mail religiously, I noticed the mundanity of mail.  Bills, junk mail, and housing marketing flyers.  It dawned on me; mail, the thing one thinks of when it comes to communication between people on an intimate level, doesn’t happen anymore.  And so, this birthed Junk Mail Letters.

Junk Mail Letters is a mail art project, in which each week, for 5-10 weeks, envelopes made from the pages of junk mail are dropped into the mail boxes of my neighbourhood, each holding a letter with a positive message.  This is to discuss the loss of connection and community which can be gained through the physical letter. The envelopes plays a slightly different role: the role of subversion. Junk mail is not something people expect to enjoy and like, so to use it to hold a positive message subverts expectations.

Mail, in some ways, is more intimate and connected to people than digital messaging is. Letters are written (or printed, if you own a printer) with the goal of talking about your life and checking in on other people, hand-crafted and hand-folded.  Whether its mail about yourself, or a surprise gift to someone else, the touch of a hand made them, and you can touch the letter yourself, hold it for as long as possible.  Mail holds connection through touch, from its physicality.  You can’t touch an individual text, its just the screen of the phone, with that spot touched also touching a word document, YouTube, this Tumblr post.  Mail is impactful though its physicality.

Why can't fat people date each other in media?

Fat4fat romance. Fat girl fat boy romance. Big girl meets big girl. Plus size x plus size romance.

I google various terms to find what I want. I get zero. Doesn't the internet have everything and anything? During my search, I come acrosss several lists that purport to have the best romance with fat, big, plus-size women. Book one has a slim love interest, so do books two to 21.

I search bbw x bbm romance. The first link is Pornhub. I click "Bbw Bbm Porn videos" out of curiosity (into an incognito tab). I click past the age verification--yes I am older than 18. "Do you mean bbw bbc?" asks the website. The first video is of a black man and a white woman. Neither is fat.

We never see fat people in love with each other. It's always a fat woman with a slim, tall, jacked jock or a fat man with a slender, svelte, petite (although sometimes taaaall) cheerleader if the characters are teenagers (I'm not american, so I've never actually seen a jock or cheerleader irl but you get the concept. Replace it with the popular person trope closest to your culture). If they are no longer in school, the love interest could be a model, a singer, a superior worker, etc, but they are always popular and slim. Even when the romance is queer, the love interest of the fat person is popular and slim. Media doesn't matter either. Whether it's a tv, movie, book, or comic, fat people only end up with slim people. Not slimmer people, but slim.

I know that we already rarely get romances with fat people, but it would be nice to have more variety in love interests. At the beginning, I was simply happy to have fat people fall in love (speaking as a fat woman who has been single forever) but the fact that these were the only types of romances started to grate at me.

It started to feel as if the only reason fat people were worthy of love was because they had been 'uplifted' by the affection, attention, and acceptance of a conventionally attractive, socially acceptable beauty.

Now, I don't think that the individual writers of this stories are trying to say the only way we can be acceptable is by the love of the 'right' one (at least I hope not) but when the only type of romances with fat people is curvy girl gets jock/buff billionaire/cheerleader/ceo/actress/movie star, you begin to get the opposite message they intend because surely if being fat is not a detriment to love, we would have love interests who were fat.

When the only time a fat person in a story falls in a love, it is with a slim person, it makes me feel that even other fat people think that being fat is ugly. That they feel like it makes sense for people to be repulsed by fat, to seek slimness in their life even if it comes from their partner, to only feel accepted if their person is the most conventionally hot person imaginable and only with the blessing of such a person can their self worth be measured.

This impacts me because I thought/think/struggle not to think like this. I fall into this habit in my writing as well, and I worry about the people I'm attracted to being judged as being too fat or too ugly. Part of me fantasises about being seen as desirable by the proverbial 10. And yet, I'm also attracted to people like myself. Fat and short and ordinary. Where are the romances like that?

I come reading these books and watching these shows to see people like me being happy and in love and leave feeling unwanted and sad. And worst, pitied. Humoured by the book/film/tv that's meant to empower me.

And that's why I no longer read romances with fat people. At least with skinny people, there's a sense of separation from myself. But curvy romance rolls out a welcome mat for me and when I enter, the floor creaks with every step as if to say, "You're too fat, you're too fat."
