This episode scalped me then tied my bald ass to the back of a 4 wheeler and dragged me around on concrete till I was nothing more than a wet disgusting slab of meat. 10/10

I say this with 100% awareness that sometimes fandom likes to run with things based off of minimal subtext but I rlly truly don’t get. The majority of the arguments for why we wouldn’t get devil’s minion in the past? Lmao
Like the one (1) reason I can actually see us not getting it is just there not being enough screentime to go around. That’s not unthinkable to me at all; there’s a lot to potentially cover next season. But like, I literally can’t think of any other good reason for them to not do it.
And I think it’s worth saying that I wouldn’t be doing this kind of theorizing with any other show. It’s specifically bc this show likes to drop easter eggs and clues, likes to sew in little details, and also is not afraid of going all out, that I feel like I can take the things I pick up on seriously. Cause yeah, if this were another show, it might genuinely mean nothing, bc a lot of other shows just aren’t written with that enthusiasm or attention to detail or courage to Go Places.
And I also think it should be noted that like. While the show is certainly plenty different from the book(s), their modus operandi when it comes to adaptation is much more to add than to take away. They added old Daniel, added Loumand still being together, added a shit ton of extra small bits to Claudia’s arc. Their method of adaptation is not one of subtraction. They’re not taking away whole character beats and plot events. They’re adding, adding new situations, new settings, new contexts.
And that “adding” extends to character relationships as well. They built that danlou best friends/sexual tension out of the almost-nothing in the source material. Armand and Santiago (apparently) slept together. They’re not taking away interesting side dynamics that existed in the books, they’re literally adding more.
Like why wouldn’t they add past devils minion?? It only makes Armand and Daniel’s present relationship that much more complicated and insane, which is the exact thing this show loves to do.
Not to mention DM is only one chapter, by which I mean; if the argument against past devils minion is just screentime, like I personally think it is, we should also remember that. It’s only one chapter. It’s not that much additional material. And about a fourth of it is Daniel’s turning and the lead up to that, which we know would instead be in the modern day, not in flashback; and another several pages are Armand keeping Daniel trapped in a cellar, which 2x05 has already done. So like. It’s not that much material they’d have to cover to do past devils minion. Like, half an episode altogether at most, frankly, and they could easily spread that all out as they pleased. And this is after season 2 spent an entire episode just on the events during and immediately post 1973 interview. Which they did not have to do. It was a choice to add that material.
Idk sometimes ppl act like it’s soooo crazy for people to be theorizing DM happened in the past and I’m like I literally don’t think it is? And trust me I get that sometimes people get shipping goggles on, and it’s annoying when people make everything about a ship, etc, (but also that’s literally just how fandom is in general? idk what you expect), but. Idk man it doesn’t seem that wild to me in comparison to some of the places the show has been willing to go? And meanwhile like half of you keep insisting Raglan James is Marius. Some of you even thought Sam might be Santino. Theorizing about past DM does not seem that weird to me. Like I am literally just watching the show and Noticing Details and coming up with a possible outcome. It’s whatever

I don't get how people are upset with DM not being as much explored in the recent episode, I mean this is supposed to be the beginning right? Beginning of Armand being utterly fascinated with Daniel and thus the whole chase happening, the showmakers established it quite nicely.
I get people being upset over not getting more Armandaniel as compared to Danlou because this season is majorly about Louis still so it's natural we get his perspective on events happened in SanFran.
For me I'd say I am satisfied with the amount of DM they have included in this episode,
-like the whole Armand cleaning the blood on Daniel's neck and the embrace, I know the context is not romantic but the INTIMACY oh my god I was so overwhelmed. The caressing, the quite whispered murmuring, Daniel melting in that embrace, clinging to Armand, WE ARE GETTING FED actually.
This was only the beginning.
I really don't get why people would be upset with it. It sets up Armand's fascination and Daniel's almost blind drive wrt his journalism, and we don't even know where they put Daniel afterwards.
For all we know - for all LOUIS and DANIEL know the 12 years have already happened.
They cannot know, because Armand truncated their memory there.
So... yes. Intimacy. Fascination. Obvious chemistry, too, imho :)
Personally I loved it.

IWTV Season 2 Episode 5 Thoughts
Great episode. It went so many places emotionally. We get Louis wising up, Armand in full predator mode and a shift in the alliances. It's no longer Armand and Louis as a "united front" against Daniel but Daniel and Louis united in pursuit of the truth.
Some thoughts as I watched:
- Young Daniel didn't have "fucking in a coffin" on his bingo card, but he wants it now that it's an option.
-  I think this episode is warming me to Danlou
Present Daniel: did we bang back then?
Present Louis (laughing it off) I'd never. (Gets serious) Unless you want to do it now.
- Young Daniel: "Are you the Zodiac Killer?" Daniel ... baby. I know you're high, but really? I'm glad you grew more of brain in later years. As current Daniel put it, you were a moron.
- Uh, oh. Louis's suicidal ideation popping up again. He was not just recounting the feelings from back then. He was actively longing for the sun as he spoke to Young Daniel.
- Yikes at Young Daniel presuming way too much too soon. Comparing himself to Louis's loved ones after one night is ludicrous. Didn't deserve to almost be killed for it, but yeesh.
- Louis hit hard with that speech about how dull Armand is. He doesn't need the Fire Gift for that burn.
- Holy shit. Loumand's going full A Marriage Story. These resentments needed to be aired out, but not like this. They're two vipers who know exactly where to inject their venom to make the other suffer.
- Ouch. I hate being right in this case. Past Louis walked into the sun. And here modern Louis is, his heart breaking as he realizes he had a suicide attempt he wasn't aware of.
- Oh, wow. Louis tried to reverse uno Lestat into seeking him out by publishing blatant slander just like Lestat got Louis to seek him out by sending him a love song but using his mistress's voice. God. They really are two fucked up peas in a pod.
- Poor burnt up Louis. Armand may have saved him from the sun, but he is holding that grudge something fierce. He's in full coven leader mode, dealing with witnesses and interrogating Daniel with a brutal practicality. Reasserting his dominance on Louis (emotionally) and Young Daniel (the whole shebang of torment for being the easy scapegoat). Armand is so frightening when he puppeteers Young Daniel and breaks him down to the worst aspects of himself. As Armand previously said, he's good at finding the vulnerability in the object.
- I do not believe for a second that Armand was going to let Louis go. That coffin scene is Grade A manipulation on Armand's part to guilt Louis into staying. Sure, the emotions Armand claims are real - the best manipulations have truth to them - but Armand's expertly wielding them to achieve his goals - make himself look like a love martyr and Louis feel like a bad person if he doesn't stay.
- Armand being the gentle death, soothing Young Daniel as he washes him and coaxes him into accepting an early grave. How much was Daniel's dumpster fire of a personal life the result of him chasing a high and how much was because Armand mindscrewed him into thinking that such a disappointing life was inevitable?
- Louis upped his manipulation game, too. He got Armand to spare Daniel by reaffirming the vows so to speak.
- Aww. What Louis told Young Daniel was so sweet. While Armand's words guided him to self-destruction, Louis's gave him hope in his darkest times.
- Oh, fine. Danlou can join Loustat in my prefered ships in this adaptation. You won me over, show.
- Yes! Louis finally realizes Armand scrubbed his brain like it was a crime scene. That throbbing neck vein doesn't lie. Louis is big mad at Armand.

I've been real absent online the last couple of months, but I can't miss out on @iwtvfanevents 'a meal to remember' because we are so incredibly blessed with beautifully creative and talented people in this fandom who constantly inspire and allow me to forever-wander in the world of Louis de Pointe du Lac, my most darling and favorite character ❤️ this won't be nearly as organized as I'd like it to be, won't say all I want to say, and I will inevitably miss somebody and/or some fic, but just know that there is so much wonderful content out there, especially by so many of the people on this list that anyone can check out at any point:
twelve days/nine months by @devotiondroid & @weather-mood daniel/louis/armand modern human au quite literally the fic that saved the holiday season for me. when new chapters of 'twelve days' would post, I would drop everything to go read it and would count down the days until the next update was set to happen. 'nine months' is a wip in the same verse and just as stunning. it's no surprise it's amazing; it's toni and it's bri, two people shining with so much talent it's blinding. and their powers combined?? oh my god. (there's also a one-shot in this verse called 'saint valentine' and my brain broke reading it, idk) now, just a list of @devotiondroid fics that changed me as a person: daniel/louis (and a little louis/armand as of now) human au quicksilver/mercury a danlou noir au that I reread a couple of weeks ago just to feel something again and then toni up and posted its prequel 'mercury' and I simply couldn't cope. the noir vibes paired with the gorgeously yearning story is just !!! everything.
daniel/louis modern human au
baby, I'm your man
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD READ 1000000k of this world. the idea of it, the complete ache of this story, has stuck with me, buried somewhere between my ribs, and I'll forget about it for a second then remember and it'll hit me like truck how wonderful it is. toni................m o r e lestat/louis human au my neck, her rope solar plexus hit of a fic. oh, oh the loustat dynamics....it's gorgeous and the concept is !!!!!!!!!! everything to me and now, my list of @weather-mood fics that, when posted, I quite literally become/became a dragon needing to hoard the newfound treasure immediately: armand/louis (armand/louis/REAL RASHID) canon-verse instruction real rashid, my beloved ;;;; no but, honestly, bri has made real rashid so important to me and to loumand, she's why he exists in my first (unfinished) loumand fic 'facio ut facias' because he's just that important. but bri also just always puts into her fics the gorgeous way that loumand are so perfect together, the way they are consumed with one another's existence. armand/louis canon-verse-esque rumpelstiltskin
FAIRY TALE AU. bri is also the inspiration behind my unposted and ongoing fairy tale au because no one does it like her and this one is......oh god, the way armand is the only character that could have ever been in this, the way he fits into louis' life to be this exact character.......don't talk to me lestat/louis; armand/louis; armand/louis/daniel siren au THE ENTIRE PART OF YOUR WORLD (ONCE UPON A WINE DARK SEA) VERSE y'all don't need me to tell you how perfect it all is. I think about it constantly, I've told real life friends about it, it's everything, every single fic of it is everything. lily/lestat pirouette by @weather-mood and @nlbv/@ouizaya
it's so interesting thinking about lestat in those weeks and months of hunting louis, of how he found out things about him from others, how he got lily so involved, how she died because of it all, and the way bri and zaya took all of that and then showed the mental state of lily throughout it all, how much lestat's vampiric control ruined her....................amazing. it's everything.
lestat/louis canon-verse tides by @nlbv/@ouizaya
zaya, my love, she takes some of the sexiest loustat scenes and makes them even sexier before gut-punching you with something insane and devastating and it reminds me so much of the show's writing, the way you'll be like 'look at my family <3' and then suddenly their conversation has gotten dark, the room looks cold, and you wonder how they'll ever truly come back from it......... god shallows by @nlbv/@ouizaya
REPEAT ALL THAT I SAID ABOVE AND THEN SOME. like???? the episode 6 elaboration???????????? oh my god. it's real. it's what happened. we all know it.
roadkill by @nlbv/@ouizaya and baberainbow I think about this fic so often. the car wreck, lestat and claudia being so in-tune with one another hunting because they're the same, the way they're both aware of louis, the way the family works and fits in, the gore and beauty of it. obsessed. TIME TO TALK ABOUT BABE. lestat/louis canon-verse glass the capturing of louis during those earliest vampiric days, paired with lestat's doting as he tried to solidify his wooing, and then just -- everything else, it's all so good.
disruptions that scene in ep 7 where the entire family teams up on that poor man at their door is crazy and this fic takes that concept and just runs with it in the best way
lestat/louis non-traditional a/b/o verse lioness listen.............i'm such a sucker for a good a/b/o fic and we have a severe lack of them in iwtv, thank you, babe, for writing a beautiful one armand/louis canon-verse luna the way that loumand have been together through some of the most insane historical events will haunt me and also I'm in love with the idea of it, thank you, babe, I want every single year and something they experienced together
armand/louis; lestat/louis; louis/others canon-verse catacomb a required read leading into season 2. that's all you need to know.
armand/louis/lestat cannibalistic modern au cleave/tie by @kittyldpdl
a couple of years ago, I went through this obsessive body horror phase where all I watched and read was something that had some kind of body horror and it would make me nauseous but also I was so intrigued, so fascinated, I couldn't stop. this is that. oh my god.
armand/louis; lestat/louis modern au capillary by @kittyldpdl and @salmoncakepls
WIP. I think about it once a week. falling in love with louis while dressing him??????????? oh my god, the concept, the idea, I want to drown in it armand/louis; lestat/louis robot&android au design; intricate by @salmoncakepls
every time I see concepts for this fic my brain short circuits and every time I read it I just !!!!!!!!!!!!! the brain behind this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the most brilliant
goat goat goat time <3 <3 <3 armand/louis prey drive by @iwtvdramacd18
HI I THINK ABOUT PREY DRIVE EVERY TWO DAYS AND FEEL FAINT. like idk what else to say, it just sticks with you and you're like 'wow they're just like that and it's insane and beautiful and raw' and goat just writes it perfectly, always lestat/louis exposure by @iwtvdramacd18
I've never actually heard of this fic, but if I had, I would assume it was the most batshit crazy thing I'd ever read......full compliments lestat/louis WIP lunacy by @iwtvdramacd18
I seriously always admire people who can write the 'monster' so well. I struggle so much with actual horror/monsters/suspense and so to read it so well done always makes me a little crazy armand/louis/daniel canon-verse after s1 gathering dust by @knifeeater
non-linear narrative !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
armand/louis canon-verse esque alluvium by @knifeeater
I see the tag service dom armand and my brain blacks out, comes back, and is forever changed. that's all. armand/louis/lestat perpetuum mobile by @knifeeater
sometimes you read a fic and the opening is the most insane thing you've ever read that you're like 'how can they keep this up?' and then they do and you're like 'oh so you're that kind of talented....okay' that's this fic.
armand/louis canon-verse
dirges by @dictee
'He had told Louis once, a lifetime ago, as a kind of bedtime story, about his work with cadavers in the nineteenth century, in the catacombs under the Parisian graveyards. Louis, half asleep, made some comment about Mary Shelley, but in his mind it was his skin under Armand’s scalpel, as loving a part of Armand as any. Shuddering and offering up the red jewels of his insides. ' please read it. oh my god.
MORE DANLOU NOIR THAT IS JUST i'll let you win by @diasdelfuego
danlou prophet. daniel just being so overcome by louis...........daniel just being so enraptured, so in love. the noIR. ily. need to reread asap actually oh my god.
daniel/louis post s1 nothing left to give you now by @diasdelfuego
'When he turns back around, Louis is still facing away from him, eyeing the coffee table as he shrugs off his coat. It slides gracefully off Louis' elegant frame to reveal a deep burgundy button-down underneath. In Daniel's mind, he thinks as he takes in the sight, Louis is always wearing black —mourning black, the writer in his brain supplies. Daniel takes stock of him while Louis stands at the edge of the carpet and looks over Daniel's apartment. The vampire is just as preternaturally young as he was half a century ago, just as beautiful, looking entirely out of place in Daniel's mundane, chaotic environment.' like imagine the whole fic being this beautifully written................................w h a t
lestat/louis; armand/louis murdery mystery au WIP overlords by @diasdelfuego and @shewhomustbecalledking I'm behind on this (work is the worst, let's all quit our jobs) but what I've read is just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO INSANE. cannot wait to catch up, I have spring break in three weeks and honestly just want to read the entire time, catching up on this and drowning in its beauty
lestat/louis a/b/o verse WIP house of gold by @shewhomustbecalledking I think this was the first a/b/o fic I read for this fandom and it's the blueprint, it's the reason, it's everything. the way lestat is so perfectly lestat in this is everything to me. I love an in-character lestat so much.
armand/louis; lestat/louis AU gothic horror WIP rhodedendron by @blueiight
'Let the Devil tempt me not, Louis thought, as he crawled to the mirror. Hollowed out eyes stared back at him, light-brown mawkish physique barely visible, swallowed up by loose pajamas, twists slightly askew but still meticulously sectioned off.
You look a fucking mess, bruh. Hardly fit to carry on the Du Lac name, what lady would want troubles such as yours? His Mother’s voice blended in with his own. But alas he could not be, could not sit in his sorrow and forever laud the man he was not.' true southern gothic horror. the last two chapters changed everything for me.
lestat/louis modern human au dreaming put to shame by @downstairsbar
I read this every single weekend. the beginning??? louis classing lestat?????????????? louis knowing lestat's eyes are on him but not understanding it???????????? the way I'd give anything for a million more words about how they got to the last part, about what all follows.
lestat/louis canon-verse modern era WIP
murmur by proval the way these are still our louis and our lestat, reunited after everything, still so the same, still so not..............this author seems to have such a good hold of these characters, I can't wait to see where this fic goes
armand/louis; lestat/antoinette; lestat/louis modern succession inspired au WIP dirty, sexy money by thevintage I've never seen succession but I love a business au and these first three chapters are so good. lestat and louis are divorced, they have claudia to tie them together, lestat is marrying his mistress, and louis has just met armand who is business rival of lestat's and the sparks are already flying and ohmygodohmygodohmygod

hiiiii hi my dear uhmmm... 1, 16, 22, 28, and/or 32? and 40!
Hi!! 💕💕💕
1. When did you fall in love with the show?
First episode in the church scene, my heart was in my throat, breathless, aching, unable to look away. Never recovered.
16. Do you have a favorite piece of art (book, movie, painting) that’s referenced or featured in the show?
(Surprising no one) Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion! It’s in Easement, it’s in Tower, it’s in Dubai Bubblegum. It lives rent-free in my head.
Tumblr media
22. Who's your favorite character? Why?
Louis de Pointe du Lac. He’s just so endlessly fascinating and every time I rewatch I’m just hypnotised by JA’s performance all over again. To see Louis in all the different time periods and at so many different stages in his relationships, it’s enough to think about 24/7. Louis and his family, Louis and Claudia, Louis and race, Louis and gender, Louis and food, Louis and hunger, Louis and religion/faith, Louis and Lestat, Louis and Armand, Louis and aesthetics, Louis and fashion and presentation, Louis and Daniel, Louis and storytelling… you get the gist. There’s so much to think about and so much intelligent meta and analysis on Louis and all these things and I love reading about it, thinking about it, and watching the show and listening or watching Jacob Anderson talk about Louis, listening to JA’s Louis podcast, reading Louis focused fic. Louis! 💕
28. What’s your favorite (platonic) dynamic?
Louis and Claudia. ‘You had a daughter’ ‘I had a daughter’ weeps, sobs, never gets up again
32. Is there a specific moment or plot point you’re hoping to see next season?
I don’t think we’re going to get it but one can dream: Danlou kiss!
40. If you made any fanworks of your own, what are your personal favorites? Throw yourself some flowers!
I’ve already said poyw and rumpelstiltskin so mental topology experiments to the tune of bubblegum bitch series! 💐💕

I love this so much. Oof oof oof. Louis following the pattern. Daniel fitting into that pattern. The prey becomes the predator. But what a beautiful predator and still oh so vulnerable?! Oof oof oof. And the new prey? Moth to the flame but with a gravity to pull the flame in too? Oof oof oof.
hey!! sorry i opened this when i couldn't answer and then forgot. that's definitely one of my favorite gifsets i made for iwtv, sooo happy it made you bark ❤️ love the way you put the last gif into words, 'with a gravity to pull the flame in too'. i can't wait to see more of danlou in s2, especially now that the power dynamics in dubai have shifted so dramatically. and the 70s flashbacks!!!! i'm ready to eat and be eaten alive by the new season, GIVE US THE RELEASE DATE YOU COWARDS

Oh wow. I was not expecting you to be done this quickly 😂. I am just gonna reply to all your meta at once because I am lazy It's convenient instead of replying to each episode separately.
Long reply under the cut!
Episode 4:
CLAUDIA!!! I just wanna begin ny saying I love Claudia. She is my favorite character, not just of this show but of all time. This is the Claudia show to me! I care about no one else when she is on screen.
Part of the reason I hate Lestat and can never really engage with him properly is because the Claudia-Lestat dynamic is way too familiar to me to have any unbiased thoughts about it. I relate to Claudia so much. I have never loved a character as much as I love her. Thinking about her too long always makes me cry because she is so, so important to me. Claudia has never done anything wrong in her life, ever!
Ahem! Okay back to episodes:
So Bailey had to leave the show because of scheduling conflicts. Which is why we got Delainey in S2. They are both amazing and bring so much to Claudia that I wouldn't have it any other way now.
In terms of Bailey not looking 14, so Claudia was 5 in the books, I think. They changed that due to labor laws and the fact that there are some things you can't expect a child actor do. They chose 14 because it's a very turbulent point in a person's life. Can you imagine being a teenage girl for all eternity? My God!
I do agree that Bailey doesn't look 14 but sometimes we just have to suspend disbelief. Also it's very interesting how they tried to make her look 14 through clothing. You should listen to the accompanying podcast they had in Season 1. It's fascinating stuff!
The deterioration of Louis and Grace's relationship is truly heartbreaking. I always got the sense that Grace was more accepting of Louis than the rest of their family. But because of his marriage to Lestat and his subsequent absence from their lives, she has grown bitter.
Episode 5:
This episode is very heavy. I don't have a lot to say about it that hasn't already been said. This show has done a great job of showing IPV. (For the most part).
To answer your questions (not really) :
a) your first question is somewhat answered in season 2
b) I have no idea. That is a good point actually.
Episode 6:
This show has so many hot South Asians. Just wait till you meet Real! Rashid.
I feel I have already said this, but my God do I relate to Claudia. It's worse for her because she can't escape being their child.
I am also worried about what they are going to do with Lestat in S3. Which is why season 3 doesn't exist to me till I know for certain it's good.
Nice to see you have joined the DanLou propaganda committee early! It took me till season 2 to get on board.
Also about Lestat and Armand. No babe, they have different makers. I get why you are confused because all these White men have similar names. Lestat's maker is Magnus, Armand's is Marius.
If there's one thing Armand knows how to do, it's committing to the bit!
Episode 7:
Claudia (almost) killing Lestat! Moment of all time. I loved her mocking him as he is gurgling on his own blood and then writing his last words in his own blood? My girl is ruthless! (affectionate)
I remember I found this episode very cathartic the first time I watched it. Pre-reveal that Louis wouldn't let her burn him. Then it became heartbreaking.
Daniel is a very typical white liberal. He uses his "objective journalist" mask to say the most offensive shit. I still haven't forgiven him for acting like he was somehow entitled to read about Claudia's sexual assault. And then saying something about "sexy Claudia costume." Oh, we need to kill him!
He is also pretty awful here, and sadly doesn't really get better in terms of microaggressions in Season 2 either. It never sat right with me how he talked to Rashid!Armand because of his supposed power over him. Combine that with the dismissive way he talks about Louis' abuse and his lack of sympathy for Claudia till the season finale? Yeah, Daniel makes me very mad in Season 1.
Weird Gremlin Armand time!
I have been bullied, outright bullied, I say, into finally watching Interview with the Vampire. Apparently Delhi boy Arun is the way to persuade me over my gore squick.
So three years late and several hours after the train has passed - my episode by episode live-blog. (These will probably be shallow reactions because I know all the meaty meta and analysis has already been written. I remember reading it back when I was an innocent parasocial of your gifsets.) Also, I am coming into this with a series of biases; I've been completely spoiled by way of seeing gifs, reading meta and going through the book summaries. This is also not my genre; I don't enjoy gothic or horror, I was never into the vampire mystique, and I learned vampire lore via Buffy and Angel fandoms back when. So I am predisposed to watch this for the specific angle of how to intersect with my friends' interest in the characters. Disclaimers out of the way...
Season 1 Episode 1 - Mmmm, I see what people say about the art direction. This is a very very beautiful show. Very deliberately staged historicity, very artfully selected colour palattes and design. I imagine watching it on a big TV would be rewarding (I'm on a laptop.) But actually, more than the quality of the design, I think what I am enjoying is the quality of the actors. Because I have been forewarned, I realise all the cast is serious scenery chewing theatre rats. But the energy they bring to their scene work is palpable even through the screen.
Louis for instance, is oddly not beautiful. I can think of several other actors who would look far more physically arresting. To be frank, I don't see what Lestat saw in him, that moment did not have an impact on me. But what Louis is, because of Jacob, is intensely watchable. He brings such commitment to the character that my admiration for the actor translates into sympathy for the character. And of course, the Theatre Voice. Absolutely A+ choice to choose Shakespeare trained actors to deliver what I imagine must be quotes from Anne Rice's original florid prose?
It's a dangerous risk to use that sort of of heightened textual narration, which can work on a page, to sit against the visuals we are already seeing. I remember how Good Omens season 1 did so much quoting from the book to disasterously flat effect. But it works here, and that is, I think, because Jacob delivers the lines with so much integrity to bringing us back to the Dubai penthouse as we watch the New Orleans scenes.
I really enjoyed Daniel Molloy, who I remember finding rather delightful in the gifs even before we all knew his importance and where he was headed. I love grumpy irascible characters and he's lovely at being surly and sardonic. And physically deteriorating and mundane and ordinary, which makes him such a good foil to -
my precious little murderboy Armand! I really do want to watch things unspoiled, so I carry some regret about going into this so very equipped with hindsight. But I did giggle as the very first vampiric contact we see is a cup of tea being placed by Unnamed Brown Guy hand in front of Daniel. That's the love of your life, dude! Give or take a few divorces and deaths. I was watching Assad very closely to see what choices he was making - if there were any clues to pick up on. He was pretty stoic during the hand burning.
But that silent service thing going on - that's definitely something that packs more of a punch if you imagine him learning that from childhood as a human. I've got all kinds of headcanons going on for him, which I've been discussing with @quark4561 and I think his backstory can be a heartbreaking foil to Louis's, in terms of service, and sex work, and segregation.
Speaking of race, I know much of the fandom adores Lestat, but I thought the great thing about casting Sam Reid, is that he isn't the kind of drop dead gorgeous version that Tom Cruise might have been (never seen the film) and so he comes across right from the very beginning as ordinary except for the priviledge of his power. We know already that his power is vampirism, but because of the casting choices, it also becomes the power of whiteness. Lestat isn't some idealised homosexual awakening for Louis, or at least, that wasn't the way I read it. Lestat uses money, whiteness, physical force and vampirical power to get to Louis, and that sets their relationship on a dark, abusive path from the get-go.
In contrast to this was Louis's relationship to Lily. I loved her and the gentleness of their bond. The needless cruelty of Lestat killing her (thankfully offstage, I do not need to see Black women murdered any more), hammers in that this is a person who is selfish and cruel (beyond the ordinary carnivorous murders that one expects of the vampiric genre).
I'm not sure I understood why Louis's brother killed himself. Were we supposed to believe Lestat fucked with his mind? Were the voices he heard a sign of suicidal delusions?
But seeing both of them hoofing together - and I am so glad we didn't see Lestat lurking about then, it was a Black wedding and needed to be closed to the community - was so moving. It made me feel Louis' love for Paul more than his monologue narration. I'm not Black or USAmerican, but I did feel that the Black experience of these characters was respected and integrated into the storytelling choices, from writing to casting to design to cinematography, in a way that really worked for me.
I'm looking forward to spending time with Louis and his assistant, and the grumpy old fart interviewing them.

Note
What are your hopes and expectations for the following:
Loustat
Lesmand
DanLou
Loumand
Lesdan
Gabrielle/Lestat
Errrrrrrrrrrr.... in real short? For the upcoming season? 😅
Loustat: petty and in love, reunion before Akasha swoops in
Lesmand: Hot and heavy but Armand blows it, spectacularly
DanLou: Daniel calls Louis out on shit in the present, helps him with certain research things, maybe spicy memories pop up :)
Loumand: I don't think they'll be on talking terms for a while
Lesdan: Get along like a house on fire actually. The fact that Daniel's is Armand's is definitely gasoline for said fire.
Gabrielle/Lestat: Oh boy. Where to start. All in. Sam Reid called the book passages "sexually charged" in the podcast recently, I bet it will be full messy incestuous-leaning-before-turning, and full incestuous-and-sexual-after-turning messy. Maybe also part of the reason why Armand hates her guts so much. 🤪
