Like, that line is SUPPOSED to be jarring. It is supposed to be kind of darkly funny, but the point isnt for you to laugh. Its not trying to be a punchline. The point of that line IS to "take you out of the world" because the point is that *this world isn't what you thought it was.*

The irony of this statement is that Ludinus's single-minded obsession with killing the gods is precisely what makes him so controlling and tyrannical. He could have spent this entire time using his extended lifespan to shape the Dwendalian Empire into a glittering jewel of a kingdom, as J'mon Sa Ord has done with Ank'Harel. He could have channeled his negative experiences with authority into offering the people under him the kind of support he wishes he'd received, as Vex has been doing in Whitestone and Emon. He could take five minutes out of his day once in a while to spend some low-level spell slots or short rest resources helping people he crosses paths with, as Trist and Ayden did multiple times during Downfall. Instead, he's stayed focused entirely on himself and his petty personal vendetta.

Hey so can we like clear some time in our schedules for us to all get together and collectively remember that "write for yourself" was never supposed to mean what anyone on this site takes it to mean? The fact that in DotO there is canonically a book that is nothing but corny and (very) poorly disguised corvosider erotica is funny enough on its own, but the fact that it's an actual retelling of Corvo's marking scene from the first game makes me think that it must have been written by one of the only two people present at the time (probably the Outsider because this sounds exactly like something he'd do).

Which is. Probably just about the funniest way to imply that we've moved past the "the inherent and probably accidental erotic undertone of branding someone with your name" stage and straight into the realm of "the Outsider writes explicit fanfiction about himself and Corvo, probably doing the Void-dweller equivalent of giggling while kicking his legs all the while".

It's just such a thing in my mind because it adds a truthful sadness and differing aspect to mouthwashing.

If Curly was trans it adds the horror of the horribly selfish thought he could have easily been in Anya's situation. It could've been him but it wasn't and he so conflicted on the pit it put in his stomach that brings and the shameful relief it wasn't. In this scenario he is friends with Jimmy for a long time still. Jimmy likely knew him pretransition. Maybe he gave Curly weird looks then, maybe they never stopped after, maybe they seemed meaner. They are guys now, bros, both of them are. He doesn't really have to worry what those looks mean anymore, Jimmy just has that face with him sometimes. It's recontextualizing a lot of things for him that he was in denial about or too ashamed to admit. How naive he was being and how he let that get another person hurt.

Specifically with Anya, it's he knows the dread and fear she's feeling. He can understand it because he had to live with it for a good portion of his life, he knows it cause he still does, just in a slightly different way. It makes him think of all the times he's been alone with Jimmy, all the times he's been way more drunk off his ass and not remember the night, Jimmy was always with him the next day. Makes him think of the comments he would laugh off both because that's what guys do but because that part of being a girl says to laugh so Jimmy doesn't do something. It's the selfish realization that he was never safe and he's uncertain now too. Mad at himself for forgeting that feeling, espcially since for a long time he would've been considered the only woman on a crew (with all that implies) for a long time.

He should've taken those blinders off, step back into that position for just a moment and it's so much more painful that Anya likely came to him because he should've gotten it. Those thoughts don't leave his mind after the crash when he's in an even more vulnerable position than she was...

Here's the thing:

Everyone is allowed to have and voice their opinions, sure. However, I see no point in going to an author and announcing you're not reading their story anymore. People write fanfiction out of love for the source material and because it's a way to express ourselves with others around us.

It's okay if a story isn't for you. If you've been reading it and suddenly realise it's not something you want to read any longer, it's okay to drop it. However, be mindful that you are going directly to the author when you send asks or drop replies. We are going to read that and often wonder what we did wrong... it can potentially cause us to eclipse our creativity, especially when we're already struggling with putting something out there.

There is literally no benefit from telling a writer that you're leaving. This is not an airport. No need to announce your departure.
