I’ve had this idea knocking around in my nugget for a while. And I’ve been calling it system parasite or systematic parasite.

Anyway it started because I was listening to “interlude IV (showtime)” and the mind video my mind usually makes got replaced by system!sy and system!airplane arguing over sqq/sj’s death/qi deviation and system yuan declaring to revenge against Xitong. (Do note that I have no clue what the song originally is from or its context, I just like the song)

Concept:

The system is a bug, an interdimensional/multiverse traveling insect that’s will find and choose a host and takes its hosts place once the host dies. Meaning the system just kinda wait around for their hosts to die. Airplane and Shen yuan gets transmigrated into these bugs and Xitong or mama system sets its young up in a good world that they are familiar and then abandon them to their own devices like a good bug parent :D

Both of them get to follow around and watch their host Shang Qinghua and Shen jiu. System!airplane realizes pretty quickly that this is pidw since I recognizes sqh his own book’s character + his host dies in childhood which is great and horrible could Qinghua have waited until Mobei killed him so he didn’t have to deal with that.

System!yuan on the other hand doesn’t realize for a long time that the feisty and snarky slave boy Shen jiu is the scum villain of pidw until wayy later and at that point he has grown emotionally attached to his host and he really wish he could help him but there’s nothing he can do but watch as the boy gets doomed by the narrative.

That is until he makes eye contact with another system because little thing they can see each other and communicate without people noticing (kinda, they will notice that Qinghua is just standing motionless zoning out) as Airplane can go into system mode which is like a spectralish form. But yah system yuan convinces system!airplane to help his poor boy out because he has been through a lot and needs someone in his corner, and with yuan translating Shen jiu’s actions to Qinghua is easier for the two cultivators to become somewhat friends, SQQ trusts his hamster Shidi as much as his paranoid self can and system!airplane ends up caring quite a bit of his own for the future scum villain and helps him more because he cares and less because yuan is telling him to. Both systems become attached to SQQ, quite a bit which is why the qi deviation!

Airplane: “I saved him, I held him to the moment he died”

Shen yuan: “You chocked him out of his own god damn mind promised the world to him a god damn lie”

The qi deviation didn’t kill sqq or it wouldn’t have if not for Sqh. it was a bad qi deviation, he had seen multiple at this point and it was just him with the other peak lord, trying to help and stabilize him. When he looked at him seeing the pain he was in knowing the hell of a future there was ahead knowing how paranoid he already was knowing how much worse it would get and his human stick fate. Qinghua held his friend tighter hoping it was somewhat comforting, sending a qi blast through Sqq’s meridians killing him, a mercy kill. Like this the boy wouldn’t suffer anymore, like this Shen yuan wouldn’t have to wake up in the body of a human stick, like this maybe just maybe they could change from the fates of the Originals.

System yuan was NOT happy or okay with this though! But don’t worry too much I’m allergic to main character deaths so Shen jiu is finnnne kinda, he’s not gonna stay dead. The thing is airplane and yuan are basically system larvae 🐛 Xitong on the other hand saves and collects the souls of dead hosts and eats them (if this bug eats ya soul your time as a part of the wheel of reincarnation ends) so after defeating Xitong the system bros get Shen jiu’s soul back though not in perfect condition, they also can’t just return the soul to its original body because Shen yuan is kinda living in it. So they kinda end up with a younger system brother/son and have to find a body for little system!sj and like isn’t it unethical to do the host thing, maybe there’s a plant that can help?

Idk I haven’t thought about that yet.

What I do have are appearances, so for our system bros their eyes glow (only othe systems can see it tho), system!airplane got shiny light ish blue glowing eyes and system!sy got shiny lightgreen glowing ones. Their spectralish system mode form are translucent with the same color and glow as their eyes.

Xitong get more buggy insect vibes. They have an androgynous humanoid form, long silky loose hair with two long antennas sticking out from the top of their head, 4 arms and a set of insect wings as well as an extra set of eyes

Spoilers for 2.0 and Hanu's prison break

The Watchmaker created Clockie after IPC left Penacony, probably to represent himself. He probably also created the other cartoon characters too, based on real history. Boss Stone obviously represents IPC (there are stories that are supposedly based on real history - so the distrust towards IPC should be ingrained in Penacony's culture. Boss Stone is literally Clockie's main antagonist).

So I've got a crack theory.

Hanu reminds me of our MC - gray hair, yellow eyes, Caelus' hat with feathers and wing-like things from the trailer reminds me of Hanu's hat. One communicates with cool grunts, and the other is mostly a silent protagonist. So he probably represents us? Or, if it's about some old history, is it one of the Nameless Himeko mentioned? What if we are one of these Nameless? Our age and past are unknown, what if we are really old and took part in these events, together with the Watchmaker?

And some dialogues in Hanu's prison break remind me of what's happening right now in the story, with people forming alliances against each other and all. I'm not exactly sure who this bird is supposed to represent though.

YES I feel a lot better knowing other people are in the same boat as me! :') as someone who only plays games very casually, the events are fun (and have been a good excuse to get those support stories on characters I was kinda ignoring) but SO distracting -- and they have a connected overarching narrative of their own (make sure you read them in order when you get to them!) so I don't want to skip any. which I guess is to say that my problem is that I'm enjoying the writing too much! how dare they.

overall it definitely has that Kamen Rider tone and feeling I was hoping for and I am VERY pleased with it! I do kinda miss the kitbashy monsters, though otherwise it's basically just Rider But With More Random Scenes of Characters Being Ridiculous At Each Other and that is exactly what I was after. (also exquisite taste, Mad Guys are best guys 🤝)

and as long as I still haven't gotten to episode 13 and can therefore continue to be hilariously naive, let me just say that I know what I'm dreaming of for Leon. he deserves it.

What sort of media would Lucky be interested in?

I think he likes weird mixed-media and self-published stuff, honestly. Audio dramas, video essays. Things he can put on while he’s on the road or stretched out watching the clouds. Reading is nice, too, but he focuses best when he's just gotten up and isn't moving yet.

He likes a classic slasher from time to time, too, but only with other people. Corn-syrup blood and cheesy practical effects are just kind of better enjoyed together.

What sort of books and journals are in Tegan's collection?

Make no mistake, Tegan was a NERD. Aeronautical anthologies, astronomy texts, those weird Barnes & Noble historical coffee table selections. Poetry, like a lot of poetry. Tegan's very much a Yeats boy, although he was also fond of Rilke and Rimbaud. There’s also, like, a few dusty language textbooks, the sort that you buy on a kick and never get around to actually studying. And he wrote a lot. Memo pads and leatherbound Walgreens journals, that sort of thing. Crack one of those suckers open and you get a free tongue-in-cheek existential crisis in mechanical pencil, 'cause that's what he had on tap 80% of the time.

What bike did Tegan have and what is Lucky's? How did Lucky get his?

Tegan had a 2012 BMW F800ST! Torquey and balanced and really well cared for. Midnight blue with some subtle yellow and white accents, little bit of a Van Gogh homage (nerd).

Of course, Janus had mixed feelings on the whole racing thing, but he also recognizing that having a motorcycle was an integral part of his brother’s identity, so he arranged for a replacement — a Sprint 1050. They are both sort of sharp in the front, and honestly, like, a bike is a bike. Only thing is that a bike is not a bike, and so while Lucky does get things done with the Sprint, it’s a little bit too finicky for his taste. He ends up trading with another local bike enthusiast for something a little more his style, and that — a Yamaha FJR1300 — ends up being his trademark bike. He gets it done up in his colors and everything. :)

What are Tegan's associates doing about Lucky being around instead of him?

Aside from the fact that he just isn’t around as much as they’re used to, I think that most of his acquaintances are just convinced that Tegan sort of got scared off the scene by the crash. First one of his career, right? And bad enough to take him off the map for months. I think that what strikes them as the strangest is the way that he just doesn’t seem to engage in the racing game at all anymore — he just seems to be a full-time courier, now.

When they ask, though, he’s genial. Maybe a little vague. Something's ever so slightly off about him. It’s weird, but who wouldn’t be? The crash was pretty bad. I’m still sorting everything out. Everyone doing okay? Nothing like an NDE to really mellow someone out. He’s still welcome, though, and sometimes he takes people up on invitations on the town, but the atmosphere’s a little different now that Holloway doesn’t step up and dazzle whole rooms like he used to.

Tegan’s best friend is canny enough and close enough that she knows what Lucky’s deal is — anyway, she’s been busy in the interim with trying to suss out what got him killed in the first place. How is she coping with the recent development that the bestie has been format wiped and now perceives way more and also way less than she is comfortable with? Uh. Really well. Don't ask her any more questions.

Lucky would love traveling, I can tell you that much. You know those people who will tour from one coast to another with a backpack and their bike? That's right up his alley.

As far as leaving permanently, though, Lucky is a creature of sentiment. He's got ties to the city, inherited though they were, and once he starts making them his own, it'll get that much harder to actually leave it behind.

He is going touring though. Someday.

Maybe after enough time’s passed. Feels disrespectful to immediately start over, you know? I think a part of Lucky seeks to understand who Tegan was, and it might just be sentimentality, but wearing the name feels like a part of that, almost? You wear the name, you read the journals, you find the person still lingering in the apartment, the idle nail-carvings on the end table, the weighted blankets and sleep playlists.

In the end, if he gets too used to it, he might just start telling people that he is Lucky, yeah, but he was named after a brother who passed away. Maybe Tegan would be amused.

YES. Is it anywhere near as prestigious? Absolutely not, but it's fun to see the neighborhood teens placing bets to see who can beat him.

He’s got a simple one stretching horizontally above his shoulder blades, the phases of the moon. He would’ve had more, but he had too many ideas for them and often sketched down concepts in his journals and never actually committed to them. Lots of thought went into maybe getting a line or two from poems he liked inked, but he never got the chance.

If Tegan did have tattoos, would Lucky be interested in getting one as well?

The first tattoo Lucky gets might be for Tegan. Some poem on his bicep or chest. But in you is the presence that / will be, when all the stars are dead, maybe. A lonely impulse of delight / drove to thus tumult in the clouds. That one will take some thought.

Other than that, maybe a spade? Is that too on the nose?

HOW THIS WORKS:

⬆️the "Assigned To" option will lead to this window where you may assign the niche to anyone that your sims has met and is deceased. The deceased sim could be a playable or non-playable ghost.

⬆️the default epitaph is "R.I.P" for both Base Game and L&D niches.

⬆️before assigning any epitaph, these are the available options for both Base Game and L&D niches.

⬆️Engrave epitaph ⚠️any sim can manually engrave epitaph to any assigned niche.

⬆️new options will also appear. NOTE: for the base game - no portrait niches: the red interactions will not appear. But if you have the Life & Death pack and downloaded the base game niches, the red interactions will appear.

⚠️A FEW IMPORTANT NOTES:

once a niche is assigned to a sim, it cannot be un-assign. It can only be reassigned to another sim.

if a sim is deleted permanently through cheat, AND the niche that was originally assigned to them has no epitaph, then the default "R.I.P." epitaph will disappear . i.e. You cannot "Engrave Epitaph" to a deleted sim's niche, but you may reassign the niche to someone else.

on a Cemetery community lot, sims will autonomously do any of the funeral interactions with the niches and light candles. (I didn't add "light candles" to the interaction because I don't want candles to be lying around...)

⚠️OTHER KNOWN ISSUES

for the base game - no portrait ones, sometimes a deceased sim cannot be assigned to the niche due to (a) they are currently in a situational event (b) has crossed over (c) reborn

on one occasion during early stage, a niche just gradually fade out and disappeared...I cannot recreate the situation nor did it ever happened again...

i imagine the bots treating the human almost like a hamster at first. whenever youre just chilling on your couch or having lunch (assuming that sentinel provided you with the most basic of necessities) there will always be at least a small group of bots watching, some fascinated, some awwing at how cute you are just sitting there. whispering among themselves with excitement whenever you happen to look in their direction.

i can also imagine some of them trying to sneak a peek when youre washing yourself. with time they would come to understand that the outer layer of rags on top of your body isnt actually a part of you, only a covering. many of them would become curious about what the "true" you looks like underneath. not necessarily in a pervy way (althought it can quickly turn into something pervy once they learn about the human concept of modesty and decide to chase the poor human with their pesky servos) but in a naive and curious sense.

As much as I don’t vibe with bots treating humans like pets, in this AU, that’s definitely how it’s going to be at first. Your every single move is closely monitored by dozens of optics that see you as the sweetest creature in the universe, all dreaming of having their very own pocket spouse. Watching you and swooning over your every move will be especially common among the miners, who don’t get much exposure to humans, only if some lucky bot (the main characters, of course) is assigned one. Which, honestly, you could totally use to your advantage if you want to feel like a celebrity. All it takes is a little wave in the direction of a group of miners after noticing their down-bad stares, and suddenly, chaos erupts because oH Primus, the human noticed them, act normal! — right before someone trips over their own pedes or misses the wall entirely while trying to strike a “cool” pose.

Attempts to touch and pick you up will also be a constant thing (assuming the bot who owns the pocket spouse even allows it — like, for example, Elita’s human would be absolutely untouchable, always protected by her). As you mentioned, at first, it’s mostly out of curiosity. The real desire won’t start until someone spreads rumors that humans and Cybertronians are actually compatible enough for interfacing to be possible, because wow, humans have spikes and valves too! This piece of information definitely won’t have drastic consequences among the miners, who are now fantasizing about sexo with someone else’s human and self-servicing at every possible opportunity.

By the way, I can totally see Darkwing, after getting his own pocket spouse, deliberately bringing them to the mining sector just to taunt the poor bots from the lower castes. Just to rub salt in the wound — and, of course, to show off in front of his spouse, proving how strong he is, that he’s so much better than those pathetic, miserable miners. (Nobody knows that Darkwing’s valve is getting absolutely wrecked by his human lmao)

In general, the quality of life for a pocket spouse depends on the caste of the bot they end up with. Cogged!bots working on the surface won’t have such extreme reactions to humans as the miners do. And obviously, Sentinel’s pocket spouse has the best living conditions — they’re showered in gold and diamonds, given the rarest and most expensive gifts, and treated like a celebrity.

But don’t worry, you’re the one holding Sentinel on a leash. And when it comes to berth matters, you can do whatever you want with him <3
