“Why did no one come for me?” The child asked. “I was a smart, quiet girl who got good grades and didn't have many friends and had a big imagination and always felt like I was different. I fit into every story. Someone should have come. Anyone. A fairy, a unicorn, a mermaid. Why didn't they?”
“Because you weren't a girl.”
“Then I should have been summoned to save the world. I should have ridden dragons, or fought them. I should have been a hero. Why aren't I?”
“Because those stories are for boys. You weren't a boy.”
“Then isn't there something for me? Anything to have that's magic, something to become, a story of my own?”
“There isn't anything. You have grown old, and learned hardness. You gave up on stories years ago. You have become bitter, and angry.”
“I wouldn't be like this, if someone had come. I gave up because no one did. I became bitter because there was nothing else but this. No escape but my own mind or death.”
“I'm sorry, but the stories you wanted only belong to smart girls, or kind boys.”
“I am smart, and kind.”
“You are not a girl or a boy. You will have no story written.”
“That's not fair.”
“Only stories are fair.”

Do you think fanfic has changed you as a reader?
Every time I've been recommended a popular romance/drama novel, I read the summary or the first chapter and I literally cannot get through it for how cringe the writing is. It feels like a teenager wrote it. Grammatically it's fine, but the writing style and plot points and character names always make me stop reading. And I like to think that I've read many fanfics that were better. But I'm starting to wonder if it's because I've immersed myself in fic so much that that style of writing has become the new normal for me.
I haven't read a lot of novels in the past few years, but when I have it's been non-romance focused fiction, and mostly rereading books I already love. Sci-fi, mainly, but also children's action/adventure series (which I also find to be better written than anything YA or romance).
Do you relate to this, or am I too deep in the fanfic rabbit hole that I crave specific fanfic-isms? Has fanfic made me a lazy reader because I already know the world and characters and I just don't have patience for new characters and new worldbuilding?
I always feel like I should read other things.. but I just can't get myself to pick up a new book and actually follow through reading it.
i think it’s a mix. i think a lot of published fiction is generally bad and a lot of fanfiction is stupidly good. but that can go the other way around.
in the end they ARE different mediums. like you said, with fanfic you alr are immersed in the world, you alr know all the characters, and oftentimes you don’t have to worldbuild because the bones are alr there, and you can build off of it and a lot of the times go deeper than what is there IRL/in canon, whatever.
but also. a lot of fanfiction is Lazy writing — that’s the point. you can gloss over things/skills that are absolutely necessary when writing a story from scratch. and that leads to lazy reading. a lot of fanfic only reads as good because it IS fanfic, and i don’t think that’s a bad thing, just something to be aware of.
i do think that when u primarily read fanfic it can be hard to trust traditional books. i also don’t really read YA or romance books because if i want to read about two people falling in love oftentimes i’ll just read ff lol but it’s like — i think you’re allowed to read whatever you want at the end of the day. i don’t think you’re better if you only read fanfic or only read published media. fanfic is an easy access to community thru fandom and much more accessible, so there’s that.
i think if you really want to get back into published book reading, despite having trouble with it, you just have to be more patient, but also maybe recognize that just because a book is published doesn’t mean it’s good.
TLDR yeah, maybe ur brain has rotted from reading too much fanfiction but at the end of the day i don’t think it’s too big of a deal. have fun doing whatever you want. you’re not hurting anyone

Umbrella Academy S4 Spoilers
Well, I finally finished the new season and I have to say, unpopular opinion, I didn't hate it guys! I had heard so many people catastrophizing about it that I was really scared, but I think the biggest thing it had going against it was that it was so condensed compared to past seasons that they really didn't have the time to delve into plot lines like I wish they could have. Definitely it was my least favourite of all the seasons, it's impossible to beat S2 for me, but it was also not the flaming pile of garbage I was worried it was going to be. I do think they could have filled in some gaps in relation to Sloane and Ray, who were both briefly mentioned with little context. Klaus's kidnapping storyline felt out of place. And of course I wish we could have had a happier ending but TUA really is a tragicomedy at the end of the day so I was not surprised at all. In fact I thought it was a rather fitting ending, that, in the end, they were able to come together, forgive each other and save the world one final time. I found it really beautiful. The forgiveness between Viktor and Alison was especially touching. Now, let's talk Five/Lila. Was I the only one not surprised by this? Honestly, I have not been a shipper of theirs but I remember at the end of S3 wondering if something more was going to come from their obvious chemistry. I even had a suspicion, due to Lila's habit of fabricating stories and Five's habit of discovering things his future selves have done later on, that a shoe was going to drop that the baby was actually Five's. I am so glad that didn't actually happen but I'm just saying those thoughts were in the back of my head because the chemistry was there from the beginning. I think it kind of makes sense because out of the whole group Lila and Five have a shared history of being assassins for the Commission and have a familiarity with time travel. Truly, I think Lila is probably the only one that actually gets Five. I also... didn't hate it. (*hides*) I liked it for what it was. It brought a softness to Five that we hadn't previously seen before. It's not something I would want as "endgame", I still adore Lila and Diego. I still think Lila loves Diego and her children and their life they built together. She didn't want to give that up. However she was stranded with Five for 7 years, alone, fighting for survival, unsure if they would ever find their way back home or what would greet them when they did. I can empathize with them leaning on each other in that situation. I don't blame them for seeking a shred of happiness in such a bleak time in their lives. The last time Five was stranded in time he fell in love with a mannequin! There is so much grey area here. They didn't mean to fall in love or hurt Diego. Bonus, the angst when they came back to reality was delicious. While we are on the subject, can we stop freaking out about the age difference please? Remember technically they were all born on the same day. It's only because of their time-traveling selves that Five is like 70 in a 26/27 year old body, and Lila is likely in her early 40s by the end of their train adventure. We have to suspend disbelief a little here. Even though mentally and physically they have quite big age gaps, they are still, in a way, each other's peers. In the end I don't think it destroyed their characters and it is kind of par for the course in this messed up family of trauma and dysfunction. (For my mutuals and followers, I will be reblogging some Five x Lila content soon. Sorry if that is a no for you. You've been warned!)

all things between (avatar universe)
Chapter 01 and 02
Pairing: Sabrina (OC) x Neteyam x Spider
Summary: In this thrilling adventure, Sabrina, a human girl, must survive the treacherous world of Pandora. With the help of her native friends and the other teenage human around Spider, Sabrina embarks on a journey to face the evil forces threatening the moon. Along the way, she meets new friends, falls in love and faces unimaginable dangers. As she struggles to save her friends and Pandora, Sabrina discovers that her courage, resilience and determination are her most potent weapons in the fight against the darkest forces. A captivating story of friendship, courage and the determination to fight against all odds, "All Things Between" is a must-read for all Avatar lovers. The year 2173 will bring not only Neteyam's 18th birthday and Sabrina's 19th but also a lot of chaos to the humans and the Na'vi of Pandora.
Enjoy your reading!
The light came in before Sabrina was ready for it. She tossed and turned in bed, but she knew better than to pretend to be still asleep. Her father wouldn't say a thing — he loved her and pampered her very much — but the others wouldn't like it, especially the Na'vi.
As it was told her: it is a blessing to get accepted in their community, so you need to be thankful and be helpful, acting as a regular active part of their system. That meant walking up early and working her ass off.
"Morning, sunshine," Dr Patel said to Sabrina, for he was the only one left at the base home when she finally got up and changed.
Sabrina didn't even bother smiling and went straight to the kettle with the hot herb tea, a special recipe given by the Ometicayans. The other scientists did not like it much but drank it for lacking better options. Sabrina couldn't be sure, but she heard a rumour that coffee was the first thing to be over within the leftover supplies of RDA.
However, she liked the tea as much as the rest of the Ometicayans' food. She knew nothing better, or at least it was how her father put it. She was the second human born in Pandora — she never knew of Planet Earth except for videos, pictures and stories.
Her father used to joke that they were opposites: he grew up hearing of Pandora and its wonders; she grew up hearing of Earth and its horrors.
After her mother's death, her father had the chance to travel back to his planet, but he thought better not, for his daughter could not endure the travel, and even if she could, he knew Sabrina would have a better quality life amongst the Na'vi than the humans.
"Where's my dad?" she asked after a long sip of her tea.
Dr Patel didn't even bother looking up to answer her. "With the children."
Sabrina sighed but left behind what was left of her tea and got a protective mask. Max Patel had many plants to analyze, yet that day, looking for medical solutions for human-caused problems, and Sabrina was a big girl with sufficient knowledge of the place to find her dad — the doctor did not need to worry.
Being Norm Spellman's daughter was no easy feature; he was one of the most accepted avatars, losing only to Jake Sully, who was technically no longer an avatar since he could not log off. Even with the convenience of keeping his human body, Norm spent most of his time as a Na'vi for more accessible communication with the orphaned kids he raised as if his own.
After the battle that destroyed Ometicaya's Hometree, many small blue children were left parentless, and Dr Spellman found there a chance to be helpful to the people. Sabrina hated sharing her dad growing up, but after she turned 11, that stopped bothering her so much. Well, except when it served as a reminder that she'd never be as helpful as Norm and the others with avatar bodies.
Dr Patel was teaching her a bit of science, for she could be valuable in other ways, but she was proving to be a problematic student — besides, she wanted to be a helper directly in touch with the Na'vi, not from within a lab.
"Look, kids, who have arrived," said Norm, being the first to notice his daughter's entrance.
Sabrina looked at the children and smiled, but when she locked eyes with her father, she frowned her nose.
"Hi, Miss Spellman," the Na'vi kids said together.
Inside classroom "walls" (there weren't actual walls), she was Miss Spellman, an active helper of Dr Spellman, their official English teacher.
Sabrina felt dislocated being called "miss", for only the students did so. To her dad, she'd always be Lil' Brina; for the other human scientists, she was Norm's kid; for the Ometicayans the girl was friends with, she was just Sabrina.
That morning, she helped her dad as much as possible, aiding the kids with most difficulties. Most heard and spoke English just fine, but they had trouble translating their thoughts.
"It's the anxiety to speak," said her father. "You had that growing up, too," he smiled at his Lil' Brina.
It didn't take long before Sabrina was fetched from the school, though — Neteyam, Spider, Lo'ak and the other Jake Sully's kids soon showed up and excused themselves.
"Please, Dr Spellman, let us take Sabrina with us," said Neteyam, for he was the oldest of the Sullys and the most respected. Unfortunately, Lo'ak had a lousy reputation, Kiri couldn't care less if Sabrina followed along, and Tuk was too young to be respected.
There was Spider, of course, who Norm Spellman liked a lot, but he would never tell the boy. And either way, Spider was always too awkward with the humans — for even though he felt heard amongst them, he didn't want to be. Spider's stronger desire was to be Na'vi, and there was nothing much to be done. So the humans that raised him allowed Spider as much freedom as possible, including the boy's lifestyle, composed of a copy of Sullys' behaviours.
After asking questions and making promises, Sabrina was free of her remaining duties with Dr Spellman for the day.
"Thanks, you guys," she said, smiling politely.
Miles was eye to eye with her, and he smiled too, but Lo'ak seemed content enough, and so did Neteyam.
"Ok, so can we go now?" said Kiri. "The forest awaits."
Sabrina thought it best not to mention that the forest would still be there, "waiting", no matter how long they took to get there.
The kids turned towards the forest, with Kiri and Tuk at the front of the little group, followed by Lo'ak, Spider and then Sabrina and Neteyam. The latter grabbed Sabrina by the shoulder, stopping her in her tracks with little to no effort.
It was so unfair how bigger than her he was, even though Neteyam was nine months younger.
"You don't have to come if you don't want to," he said.
She looked up at him, always so frustrated with how much she'd have to tilt her head to look him eye to eye. "I want to go."
Neteyam simply stared at her clothing, and Sabrina sighed. She knew she was not the most passionate one about the Na'vi way of living. She hated the early hours and the weird language structure, but the thing she disliked the most was definitely the clothing. Of course, it was easy for them with their long torsos and slender abdomens. She, however, was too self-conscious of the curves of her body, its milky skin colour and her human weaknesses.
She would've been tanned if on Earth (probably), but on Pandora, she had a distraught dad that kept her on a bath of sunscreen — "We don't know the exact power of this atmosphere on you, honey" was his excuse. And because of it, she never got to be more like her mother's skin colour, ending up just as white as Norm, and honestly, it was not a desirable look among the Na'vi.
"Look, Neteyam," she started her argument, "just because I'm not dressed to Pandora doesn't mean I'm not ready to explore."
He raised his hairless brows, crossing his arms. "Ok then."
They had only walked one meter before an insect came too close to Sabrina, and she could've been in danger if not for Neteyam squashing it dead.
She added, "If you could keep yourself close to me, that would be nice."
He smiled, but she did not catch it, for they kept walking, and he was way too taller for her to look at him unnoticed.
The problem with dressing like a human scientist when walking inside the dense flora of Pandora was that you instantly became a target for all the animals and weird living plants, who all despised humankind. However, Spider had better times in the forest, for he walked almost entirely naked, with only a thong similar to Lo'ak and Neteyam's. Moreover, he recently started painting himself with the same intricated patterns of the Na'vi.
The look suited him, thought Sabrina, for he was lean and fit. But, unfortunately, it wouldn't work for her.
The group walked for quite some time before stopping near a small pond.
Jake used to take his boys there before Tuk was even born, but that little mattered for the girl, who jumped in at the first opportunity. Lo'ak followed along, but the other four stayed staring at the two, Neteyam heavy with a smile and Kiri a little bored. Miles and Sabrina looked apprehensive, for it was true of the dangers of the land to humans, but the dangers of the water were unknown.
The fact that it was a small pond made things a little safer — there was no chance of a big Pandorian wale or something, but who knew how harmful small fish could be? Or even if there were unknown bacteria or tiny water insects just waiting for a human body to contaminate.
"So you all have your fun; I'll be near the trees, looking for kenten," Kiri said, hugging herself with her holed cloak blanket. Neteyam stared at his adoptive sister but said nothing and let her go.
Miles was the one that seemed not ok with Kiri being all alone, but he did not follow the girl, at least not right away. He knew her too well, and Kiri sometimes needed her time alone with the forest.
"But aren't kenten nocturnal creatures?" asked Sabrina after some seconds, her brain taking a while to connect the Na'vi word to the English one, being it the fan lizard.
Neteyam laughed, and so did Lo'ak, swimming close to the pond's edge and hearing it all.
"Thank Eywa, she's too far to have heard you," said the youngest Sully boy.
Sabrina frowned, embarrassed for having called out on Kiri's mistake. It was known that Kiri was the smart one, not Sabrina. Both were daughters of scientists, but only one naturally liked science. Norm's girl had knowledge she had to gather throughout her fifteen years of life, while Grace's girl was born with her mom's brain, or so Sabrina theorized.
The party knew the two girls weren't exactly fans of each other — but they tolerated one another just enough to keep the friend group tight.
Noticing they weren't going anywhere now that they had found the pond, Miles decided to give faith a chance and sat down near the edge, placing his feet inside the freezing water. He needed a couple of seconds to get used to the temperature, but soon enough, it was acceptable.
Neteyam side-eyed Sabrina (or, better said, looked down at her) and decided on sitting near a tree, offering her a chance to be ok to sit far from the water. It was only when he pulled out a bone knife and started making noises working it on his bow, that Sabrina noticed he had sat down. She had been too focused on Spider and was ashamed of how frequently she'd done that.
"How's the bow coming?" she asked before sitting next to Neteyam.
He battled with the urge to smile, happy to have secured her a place to stay. "I think it's already too good, but it feels like it's missing something."
"And you think it's missing... sharpness?" Sabrina asked, touching the tip of the bow where he had just taken out a big chunk of wood to make it look thinner.
"Perhaps," he replied. "Perhaps a painted detail."
Sabrina liked talking to Neteyam when they were both sitting for his head, although slightly more prominent than hers, at least fell to a similar level, and for a second, she could forget he was taller than two and a half meters, and she was barely 1m60.
His big eyes stared at her with a sweet caress, and she noticed that they were barely more green than yellow. It was funny, she thought, how she had been friends with Neteyam since he was born, but just how little attention she paid to his details. She reminded herself that he was a prince amongst the Ometicaya, and that title probably pulled her away from him more than she cared to admit.
She hated it but couldn't help but feel unwelcome by the clan, especially because she never tried to adapt. Dr Patel was going through the same problem, but he had some friendship with Mo'at, the Sullys' grandmother, so he was excused.
Even though Sabrina was a friend of the princes and princesses, she felt more secluded than Spider.
She shifted positions, leaning in on the tree and getting closer to Neteyam, who allowed her some room after noticing what she was doing. She stared at the three kids left by the pond and couldn't help the rise of jealousy.
She so wanted to get in the water.
It was a bloody hot day, and they seemed to have a lot of fun. Even Miles, with only his feet in, appeared delighted tossing water on Lo'ak's face.
Tuk was the most comfortable and the easiest of them to be jealous of. She was so young and knew so little — Sabrina could not recall when she was like that.
Neither recalled Spider, for he pretended way too well. Late at night, when the Na'vi already went to sleep, but the humans still had access to light and could stay a little longer, Miles and Sabrina would talk and blab all about Pandora, being a human and their friends' easiness.
Miles was a keen defender of Kiri, and he said she knew how the human kids felt, but Sabrina could not agree, and generally, that topic ended their conversations. But until he mentioned Grace's daughter, Spider and Sabrina had already laughed and shared, and those single moments were enough to keep Norm's daughter hot with a spark she did not yet fully understand.
Puberty hit Spider first, then Sabrina and then Kiri, even though much is told that the last one was fully matured before going through what makes a woman. Although, of course, they felt like kids yet; Spider, the oldest, had just turned nineteen weeks ago, but something was shifting, and Sabrina could almost feel it in her bones, just like Kiri felt nature in hers.
Neteyam was ending his puberty process just then, for he was a full seventeen-year-old boy, and honestly, it had taken him some time to get there.
By the humans' count, it was 2173, which meant that Sabrina would finally be nineteen in just a couple more months — and that terrified her.
When talking to Spider late at night that day, he had some heartfelt advice to give.
"It's just an age, Bree," he said, putting his hand over hers. "Besides, I'm nineteen now. It changed nothing for me."
But it felt like something would change.
The humans had been back on Pandora since the year before, which was never good news. Sabrina wasn't sure how much of that had to do with her age — maybe it meant less time to play around and more chances of maturing and fighting against her own race?
"Do you think we will change as friends when we reach adulthood?" she asked her human friend.
Miles pondered over the question. According to Ometicaya's rituals, Neteyam was already a full adult, and Lo'ak had just recently become one, too, for they underwent the Iknimaya, a rite of passage for hunters. But he knew what she meant when asking him that — it wasn't about Na'vi adulthood, but rather humans' one. Norm told everything to the two human babies of Pandora; they knew maturity for them would mean turning twenty-one, but there was no rite of passage for that.
But Miles didn't accept that age. He felt like an adult because nothing much changed for Jake's kids when they were made official, so why did anything have to change for him?
"No, nothing shall change. We didn't shift how we talk to Lo'ak or Neteyam, did we?" he finally spoke.
She looked at him with narrow brows and an inclined head. "But they are still kids. Neteyam is younger than both of us."
"He is, but to Na'vi, he was a warrior," pointed out the boy.
"Is he really? Jake and Neytiri seem fine whether he stays playing with us or goes into fights," Sabrina said, with the livid image of that day on her mind.
She and Neteyam stayed talking calmingly until Spider started to worry about Kiri, and they all got up to look for her. And she was ok, to no one's surprise but Spider's, and they had a little picnic before returning to the camp base.
The point was: no one was mad at Lo'ak and Neteyam for being teens and spending their afternoons with Tuk, Spider and Sabrina. Even Kiri, who was considered a woman for different reasons than the boys, had no complaints to hear when returning.
"I think that adulthood has much more to do with how you act than a certain age you reach," said Spider, deciding his point. "And I think I'm an adult."
Sabrina smiled at hearing his confidence. She wished to share it. But, instead of being insecure, she hugged him with one arm, applying too much strength and messing with his hair.
"You always will be baby Miles to me," she said and laughed at his frown.
"Get off, Bree!" he exclaimed, but he was laughing too.
They started a little fight without commitment to hurting one another, except maybe tickling one another. Until Sabrina's brain reminded her that Spider was, in fact, only wearing a well-covered, Na'vi thong. Although it was his usual, to her, it was all too strange after reading some digital books her father forced her to when she got her first period.
So she slowly stepped away from their "fake fight" and said goodnight.
"Sweet dreams," he said like he did every night. He didn't even notice that touching his bare skin caused things on Sabrina to arouse, for her touch provoked nothing in him except the slight feeling of being safe and cared for.
***
Like the mundanes, the Ometicaya clan had special days of the month when the families could relax and avoid their obligations. Of course, some of the functions still had to operate — such as hunters — but for the most part, the forest natives were free to do what they'd like.
For the Spellmans, those days generally consisted of an intense four-hour fight training because Sabrina felt it was needed to survive the planet and the comeback of the RDA. Norm wasn't exactly an expert at battle, his last and only experience had been a tragic one, but since the year before, he and Jake Sully had worked together planning ways to sabotage any human activity outside the safe names of known scientists.
Sometimes he allowed his daughter a Na'vi knife, but mainly it consisted of a lot of punching and kicking and running around; for safety in Pandora was usually found when running away from the monstrous creatures.
Sabrina had been particularly anxious about that day's training session, for she felt like she was finally getting more muscular. Still, the number of times Brina got to prepare was so scarce that by the end of the session until the beginning of the next one, she was back to her squishy, cute fatty version again.
Walking out of the lab compound, she found her father talking to Jake Sully. The man was no longer in his human form, though, and Sabrina thought she was finally going to get some action, for her father's human body was a bit of a joke to fight against, considering how much skinnier than her he was.
"Dad, are you ready to go?" she asked after saying hello to the Ometicaya's chief.
Jake, who sat on one of the cut tree trunks that had been strewn around the "Earthlings' space", gulped, inclining his head down, allowing, by not facing Sabrina, a sense of privacy for father and daughter.
Norm looked from his friend to his kid.
"I won't be able to train you today, Lil' Brina," he exhaled. "I'm sorry."
"But, dad! We barely get any training done!" protested Sabrina, scowling.
Albeit he did not want to, Jake couldn't help but hear, and he found the human girl so similar to his teen girl at home that he knew that Norm was in deep trouble.
"Dad! We never have free time together," she said again.
Norm was about to insinuate that what he was about to do with Jake was more critical than their session, and they could, later on, do it if she so wished, but the big blue chief cut in.
"If you so wish, Sabrina," started Jake, "my son could be your father's substitute."
Neteyam, standing far from the trio, could hear it all well enough to understand that he was being called up front and started stepping closer.
"You'd help her train some punches, would you not, Neteyam?"
Sabrina noticed that Jake Sully's tone suddenly changed, and the pleasant comrade gave his place to a commander. Neteyam lowered his head just enough to agree.
"Of course, sir," the boy said politely.
Norm nodded. "Thank you, my friend."
"It's no problem. I wouldn't like my kid to listen to what we are about to discuss anyway," Jake told Norm, lowering his voice but being quite well-heard by the teens anyway.
"Well, off you go then," said Norm, looking from Neteyam to his daughter. "Have fun."
Making an animal-like sound with her throat, Sabrina rolled her eyes but started walking away with Neteyam.
"It's training, dad. It's not supposed to be fun."
"Have fun!" shouted Norm again, but he was no longer watching Sabrina, and his focus was back on the chief.
As soon as they were far from his father's eyes, Neteyam cracked up laughing at the situation, lowering his warrior facade. Sabrina had to make a great effort to stare at the boy, for he had grown a bit taller than the last time they had some quiet time, just the two.
He hadn't noticed it, however.
"I'm not taller," he said. "You're just shorter."
"Haha," she pretended to laugh. "Can't wait to kick your ass."
When they finally arrived at the small space secluded for training, Sabrina was glad to find it empty of any Na'vi or other humans. She got herself gloves from the scientists' trunk placed at the darker corner of the room and marched up to meet Neteyam, who wore nothing outside his usual attire.
It was weird how her brain was wired to overthink it when looking at Spider in a thong but seeing Neteyam in a thong was simply ok. It was more comforting than if he wore something similar to hers — tight black leggings (stolen from her mother's trunk) and an oversized t-shirt that was actually rather embarrassing now that she thought about it.
Neteyam noticed it too.
"A fan, huh?" he smirked, pointing at her shirt, for it was stamped with a Na'vi, and there it read: Pandora rocks!
She rolled her eyes. "You know I don't have many options!" She said the truth: the women who left clothing items behind were majorly too skinny to have anything fit for Sabrina. Her mother's stuff was just the same, but some of the pants fit her still (which told Sabrina that her mother had a giant ass, whether she liked to know that or not).
The t-shirts were primarily male because men tended to be bad at packing. For that reason, she even had a nice, serious-looking white button-up shirt that belonged to Parker Selfridge — for his name was embroidered on its pocket.
The t-shirt she had picked for that workout day was perfect, for it wasn't too hot and was goodly loose, but that was before she knew she was going to train with an actual Na'vi.
"So," Neteyam started speaking in a more serious tone, "I have no idea what exercises your father normally asks you to do, so you got help me here."
"Well, he generally tells me to throw punches, but I feel like today, were it not for your dad, he would've given me a proper chance to fight," she told the boy, tightening her high ponytail with a push. Neteyam's eyes followed her movement. "It is lucky that I have a decent giant to fight today."
The said giant squished his eyes. "I don't feel like your father's idea of exercise included a big guy hitting his little daughter."
Making a face, Sabrina crossed her arms. "Who said anything about you hitting me?"
Neteyam waited.
"I'll hit you, big guy," she smiled, tasting her victory beforehand. "I am older."
"And I am a certified warrior, whereas you have had what? Six days of workout?" joked Neteyam.
But Sabrina didn't laugh — oh, no, his comment made her very angry. Thus, she chinned up and went for it, focusing her fists on Neteyam's gut, but she didn't even scratch him before he pushed her away with the slightest of touches.
"You know, the thing about battle cries," he said, "is that your enemy can hear you too."
"I yelled 'AAAA'," she said, "that's hardly a battle cry."
He sniffed. "Whatever. English and its double meaning. It sounded like the cry of someone who wanted to battle. Ba-ttle cr-y," Neteyam defended himself, saying the last bit slowly and with a rather cute accent.
"Whatever, big guy," she gave him the shoulder. "Anyway, can I punch you now? Or at least try?"
He smiled. "Go for it, little lady."
Neteyam drove Sabrina to exhaustion.
Together, the two ran a few times (although just Sabrina did the running; the Sully boy just walked at the most leisurely pace possible). Afterwards, Neteyam spread some bags of stones around the place and instructed Sabrina to skip one and pick up the next, not letting her exaggerate the weight she picked but also not taking it easy.
At the end of the day, after a brief break for an impromptu lunch of Pandoran fruits, the human girl was sweating profusely, but Neteyam was unfazed. Exhaustion didn't bother Sabrina—she liked to test her limits and would never admit it, but her training with the prince of the Ometicayans had been better than the ones with her father.
To end the session, Neteyam offered his stomach as a punching bag so that Sabrina would feel the real pain of skin-to-skin contact. Of course, his skin was much more impenetrable than hers, but it didn't matter because, after just two minutes, the girl was tired of the activity.
"Fight! Back!" she demanded, throwing a punch at every word. "It! Is! Too! Easy! Like! This!"
He looked down at her.
"I can't hit you, Sabrina," he said. "You know why."
Mostly, the two of them ignored the fact they were different species, hence why he joked about her height, for he pretended she could get as big as him as if her kind was capable. But that day, Sabrina was really pushing it.
She stopped hitting his stomach. "At least hold me down. You know, defend yourself."
"I can still end up hurting you."
"Neteyam."
"Yes?"
"Pandora hurts me," she said matter-of-factly. "I'm used to getting hurt."
He wanted to comfort her upon hearing that, but what good would come of it? So he shifted positions and decided to defend himself from her attacks, which proved to be a real bore, for she was too easy to defeat to him.
When she took a couple of steps back to buckle up some strength to hit him, he waited for her to be close again and held her by the top of her head, but he was careful not to touch her protective mask. He knew nothing of how that thing worked and was scared he could compromise it by touching it at the wrong spot. So her hairline was a fine place to hold her and her mighty force.
"If I was an animal, such as a yerik, showing your teeth would be a much more efficient way to keep me away than shaking your head," he pointed out presumptuously.
"I'm not gonna show my teeth!" she yelled, still tossing and turning to free herself but failing.
Until she thought of something, reading all those anatomy books her father gathered on her notepad was alright because it gave her an idea. She calculated it in her head — she was the right height for it, even though she'd have to use her highest kicks.
Surreptitiously, Sabrina tested her right leg, precisely her knee. Then, when she was sure everything was fine, she stopped shaking her head that was held by Neteyam's hand. Then, raising her leg in a kick, as high as possible and with the most tremendous force gathered, Sabrina hit him right between the legs, where she knew a man—and her father had assured her that any man—would feel a lot of pain.
He dropped her right away and stepped aside, hissing in pain and placing his hands over the injured place. It didn't take more than three seconds before he was on the floor, looking bad.
"Oh, my! I'm so sorry, Neteyam," she said, "I didn't know it could... it would hurt you that much," she leaned forward, placing a hand over his shoulder. "Are you too hurt? Do you need me to call someone?"
"Stop having your fun over it!"
"I'm not!" she said and was being honest. She wanted Neteyam to take his hand from her hair, it was true, but she didn't think a human kick in the balls would be that agonizing on a Na'vi grown boy.
He was still hissing for quite some moment, and for that reason, she kept herself almost on top of him, except he was sat, and she was up and only then were they the same height. It bothered her a bit, but she said nothing, for the one suffering there was already him.
"I think we're done training today," he finally spoke.
"Agreed," she smiled slightly, watching his expression cool down. "Do you need help getting back up?" her question made him realize their position and her closeness. Of course, they had spent the whole day in close contact, but it felt different from that moment, with her hand caressing his bare shoulder and her tender look directed solely at him.
He felt self-conscious and stared at her without answering the question. Something fluttered inside him, close to where his stomach was, but considering how many punches she had just hit it with, he thought nothing of it.
Neteyam made it noticed that he was getting up, and Sabrina stepped away, allowing the big guy and his big legs space to rise.
"You know," she gulped, losing confidence as she voiced her thoughts, "we could do this more often. Not me hitting you... where I did," she hastened to add. "But we could workout together, or better, you could instruct me; I think it would be worth it for both of us because you would see a human in action, you know, and I know you want to help your father against the RDA, but you don't know much anatomy human, right? So I can help you with that..."
She stopped speaking when she noticed she was rambling. But, unfortunately, she failed to see that Neteyam found it all rather cute. Yeah, it had been a bit boring, he'd say, to test her limits while nothing bothered his Na'vi form, but it was nice being around Sabrina. She was a dear friend to him.
"We can train together again," said Neteyam, curving the right corner of his lip up.
Sabrina said nothing, but her eyes were filled with thankfulness; that was all Neteyam needed.

HAPPY NEW YEAR: R/MC
WARNING: Potential spoilers for one of R's Good Endings.
It’s celebration day in Capital.
Once in a year, our moon predicts the coming of new cycles, its surface painted gold by our star. Once in a year, the night becomes day, refusing to give back the light it steals from its bright sibling. Once in a year, all turns around, Nature preparing for a new beginning. Once in a year, all humans go outside to watch the world go back in time. It was, it is, and it will be, as long as creatures remain curious.
The streets are lit, candles dancing inside colourful bags of cloth. Hanged over our heads, they serve as decoration for festivities. Runes have been drawn over the walls, their twinkling shining seeping through the noisy crowd. Some mages walk around, constantly mending cracks made by vandalic children, preventing spells from ruining the night. Scents fill each alley, their own, unique aroma contributing to its canvas. One is a forest: its walls grow paintings of green leaves and trunks, wild flowers opening as windows to a private building. Odours of fruits and rivers fill the thickened air, warmth running between bodies, urging to undress. Another one is a cold mountain: white rests next to closed shutters, dancing snowflakes falling from the painted walls. Snow snakes lurk between people’s shadows, majestic eyes observing from the dark. It smells of an upcoming blizzard – it urges one to run back home.
I haven’t been to many of these parties. Growing in Hyppo, I’ve known my own share of events, yet none was as impressive as Capital’s Regression. Living in it, I’ve had many adventures falling on these times of year, not always present to enjoy the sweetened wine or sour candies. There always was something that bothered me, or something that was missing.
Not now, however. On this night, a smile played on my lips, my heart finally fully ready for the celebration.
I walk across the paths, cloak covering my well-known face. With every turn, I feel as if I’m entering a new domain, a new existence, a new small corner of the world where normally it would take days to travel. There is a river, running down one street. Another climbs the peaks of the Big Spikes. Some wonder on the depths that laid unseen beneath the ocean, and others travel to known pits inside Gold Breach. Imagination runs as wild as magic only let it be: tonight, Capital is all Therania, if not beyond it.
My steps bring me to a big plaza, the central part of our city. On it, a podium has been already built, waiting the monarch to give speech before the nights starts ending. It’s a tradition, to hear the leader of our kingdom say how our year will be: with Seers predicting Time’s expected flow, a promise issued on this night held hopes for a bright future in the subject’s heads, giving them reasons to believe no wrong will happen later.
Truth is, this year will be a little different. Our world become a little different… and, as odd as it can feel, it all has happened due to me.
“You’ll be ready when you get up there.”
A sweet, familiar voice sounds close to me, approaching from behind. With a bright smile lit up by their sole presence, I turn around to see R’s gorgeous face, their sight placed on me since the moment that I’ve got here. Their armour looks all shiny and impressive, new patterns now embedded into engraved tales. Gold strokes, depicting Hero’s story, run through their chest towards their arms and fingers, legs covered up with scriptures wishing peace and wealth. This is not armour that is meant for battle. That armour, old yet so familiar to my view, has been put back into a warehouse by our shared adventure.
How long it’s been since I’ve last seen them in it? Little over a few months. And yet, in times of final peace, that feels like a brief second.
“As long as my warrior stands next to me,” I answer, extending my gloved hand. They answer, carefully taking it, our fingers interlaced, exposed to the crowd’s chatter. I know they’ll talk, yet I don’t care – there’s nothing else I need but to be next to them.
They smile. “I’ll always be there. I promise.”
I nod, knowing they tell the truth. This night… this night is big for us. For the first time in years, no monarch will be giving speech. No Seers will stand there, nodding to the words being spoken. It won’t be them – it’ll be me. Left as a ray of light, made into hope that wavered during tensions. We’ve won, and that’s because of me.
Now, Hero’s ready to become a new, restarted kingdom.
I place my head upon R’s shoulder, letting out a sigh. Tonight… yes, it’s tonight. One last memorial of what has happened this year. All tears that have been shed, all worries and all risks. All screams of war. All sieges. All the fear of future.
“Next year… let’s celebrate it somewhere else…” I mumble, and I hear them laugh.
“Promised,” they nod back, their hand clenched slightly on my own.
Turning towards them, issuing a quiet pry, I get a silent answer before kissing. It’s a brief kiss, one that caresses our lips with heat from our touch, unable to prolong it further even if we wanted. To crowded, and too many watching. However, it’s enough for now. A seal to our promise.
“Where do you want to go…?” their whisper reaches me and only me. I shrug my shoulders, smiling.
“Somewhere where we can share more.”
Their hand caresses my warm cheek.
“We’ll still have time today.”
“I know,” with a small sigh, I press my skin against their naked palm.
“Don’t be grumpy, you’ll get wrinkles,” they giggle, watching my small tantrum.
“I’m not…” I mumble, not believed. “I just don’t want to go. I want to stay next to you.”
“I’ll be there when you finish.”
I look at them, our eyes locked in a gaze only we share.
“Promise…?”
“Promise. Tonight, and all the nights to come.”
I smile. Tonight, it’s their last shift. With war finally gone, many are taking leaves or leaving for retirement. Not many Knights are needed, and heroes have even more chance to ask to be released. R has done plenty for their country. Its time to take a break… to dedicate themselves to serve in other meanings. Tonight, it’s our most special night.
A new beginning.

Someone on a Skyrim Discord recently described Inigo as 'an inactive mod that hadn't been updated in seven years' and my first response was total jubilation.
Thank the gods someone finally said it. They're absolutely right. The mod is unfinished, hasn't been updated in years, but people treat it as the be all and end all of follower mods. It truly isn't. I know Inigo brought a lot of joy to a lot of people's lives and the mod was excellent for 2015... but it's not aged well.
Turn away now if you don't want to read the specifics of what I find off putting about the mod.
8000 lines, including ones focusing on trivia like how much of a given item you have, or what day of the week it is, or the weather, but nothing whatsoever on any DLC content.
Inconsistent characterisation - he comes across as comforting best friend and occasional source of wisdom but his backstory isn't conducive to that at all. He's a recovering skooma addict and former bandit, that's the guys who waylay travellers and kill them for their stuff, and he killed the last two companions he had. He thinks you're the last one who's survived somehow. This should not make him a lovable bestie, this should give you the creeps. And yet we're supposed to believe he's worked through all this in weeks and healed. I'm all for a former bastard getting redeemed but the redemption seems to have happened offscreen which is unsatisfying.
Backstory infodumping - modern mods have the backstory revealed organically over time. Like how a person would do it. Not one conversation where thirty years worth of backstory gets dumped on you at once. And you have to sit through this in order to unlock the summon spell and personal quest. Which involves meeting the Most Annoying Man In Skyrim and you're not allowed to kill him. You are in fact expected to take it on trust that your mentally not well bestie is actually the saviour of the world from some unknown threat. No evidence of course beyond the vague psychic visions of the aforementioned Annoyance. You just have to take it on trust. And because no updates in years, you never get to find out what happens next.
And finally a lot of the backstory just feels more like a children's story than an actual adventure. Inigo falling into the clutches of an evil wizard who turns people into chickens and rabbits to act as spies. Mr Dragonfly. Inigo's adventures with his brother. Just could have been a lot better executed. You're infodumped on and told how to feel and if your feelings don't align with that, it's clearly your fault. And that's not good storytelling. How much better would Inigo have been if you'd come across the campsite where they killed Fergus and couldn’t save him but you could save Inigo? And then later adventures happen and you get to find Mr Dragonfly together. Have that adventure with Chicken wizard together. Langley's attempts to reach you just start happening without needing to unlock the tragic backstory. An opportunity missed.
As it is, the next generation of followers have clearly learned from all this. Remiel does better on the weird pet front and personal quest that lets you kill the annoyance. Redcap does better at lovable goofball who's ferociously loyal no matter what. Gore does better at the redemption arc and traumatic past bit. DLC commentary is treated as a valid item for the to do list, not something for the creator's moderators to all wonder why so many people want that. And the next gen followers all talk to each other!
Inigo could be that too... but it was never to be.

Fantasia: at Regime's End
genre: otome, romance, adventure, fantasy
Prequels: Fantasia: The Realm of Thanos Fantasia: Requiem of The Abyss
Can assassins find love?
Fantasia: at Regime's End is the third and last game in the Fantsia series by azureXtwilight. I've waited for a full game for several years, and wasn't disappointed. The game came out pretty long - more than 10 hours, with 4 pursuable characters, a lot of side characters, lore and characters from two previous games, and a lot of fighting. If you like court intrigue and royal matters, the themes that involve war and peace, long battle scenes - this visual novel is great.
If a person dies feeling hate, they will rebirth again as a demon. In the world of Fantasia many races live together, but demons are still being outsiders, not fully accepted by society, because many people are afraid of demons and don't trust them. In a society like this there is not so many paths for demon to choose.
Ash is an demon and an assassin on a mission to kill the princess Fatima, the last member of the royal family which survived after the falling of her kingdom and managed to escape with her bodyguard Alister and the Royal Knight Malik.
We are starting the game with the love triangle: Princess is in love with Royal Knight and her bodyguard is in love with her. Also there is a cheerful merchant Zen, who is a demon, but seems pretty much accepted by society due to his charm and quality of the merchandise. Also despite that you don't remember meeting him before, he seems to know quite a bit about you.
You will have to discover hidden part of each characters. What kind of person are they? What do they desire most? What is their role in the story?
Will Ash succeed in her mission and keep her reputation as an ASHassin or she will decide against it and find other meaning for her life with one of her newly-found companions? Will she open more ways for demons to be accepted in society? It is up to player's choice. Also you can play matchmaker and help love interests fall in love with other characters.
The story is unraveling itself step by step, and there is one true route, which should be played last.
CHARACTERS:
MC Ashlynn "Ash"
heart desires: find a purpose in life, to be loved for who she is, find her family, don't be alone again.
As a newborn demon she was found and risen by Serena, however two years ago she left her, because she thought that there is more for her in this world. Now Ash is of the best assassins in the Barracuda's Guild, but she still feels that her life has no meaning.
Fun fact: because if short haircut and comfortable clothes a lot of people are at first mistaken her for a man
It really is hard to say something about Ash, except general characteristics. She's still a fun character to play though.
Narrator
The idea of a sarcastic narrator, with which MC can banter and even argue, is absolutely wonderful! I won't tell anything else about the narrator, though to prevent spoilers.
Love interests (MILD SPOILERS AHEAD):
I would reccomend order of routes (by the amount of content revealing): Altair -> Fatima -> Malik ->Zen
Altair (The Knight)
heart desires: rebuild a house of Brideguard, have children, do something to be remembered for.
Altair is one of the nobles of Kingdom of Requia and the personal bodyguard of princess Fatima. He is very proper and uptight and sometimes Fatima feels like he's controlling her too much. Also he's deeply in love with her, but he puts interests of the kingdom beforehand, so he doesn't allow himself to think about her.
He is prejudiced towards the demons, but spending more time in your company he understands his mistake and warms up to you. Despite his attitude, Altair is absolute sweetheart, I love his dynamic with MC, and how his story and romance unravelling.
His pairing with May in other routes is hilarious.
Fatima (The Princess) heart desires: ??? (to find her place in life?)
OK, Fatima basically IS your typical otome game MC. She's self-concious, shy, soft-hearted, kind, try to see the best in everyone. She doesn't know what to do, so in different routes she have different plans. I can't understand does she wants to be a queen or not? She's pretty boring as a love interest, but as a side character I think she grows more. So you can see her good and bad dynamics in different routes.
Pairing her with Alister is necessary in some routes, but it is so plain and pretty boring "princess and her knight" trope. Her relationship with prince Nazim seems to have possibility of development, though.
Malik (The Hero) heart desires: to be a hero, fight for the weak, build a new regime
Malik's route contains a lot of new information and shows absolutely different side of Fatima. As for Malik himself, he has his reason to hate nobles, and his main interest is pretty much idealistic: to build a kingdom in which no one will suffer from oppression or poverty. He doesn't want any more wars, but is it possible? The role of MC on his route would be pretty much supportive - when the hero is on his journey, everyone else is irrelevant.
His pairing with Fatima can't happen for a reason, but I would route for it just to see how it goes.
Zen (The Sacrifice/???) heart desires: for demons being treated as equals by society, to settle down, happiness for May and Ash
He is a demon merchant, who used all his charm and marketing talents to be recognized by society. Also he has a twin sister May, which is also a demon, because they've died at the same time, hating all the world. And now all that they want is to find a place for them to live safely and being treated as equals. What does Zen hides behind his jokes and cheerful facade? Who's that secret boss for whom they work? How many plans does Zen have and will any of them save everyone?
Zen is great. He is smart, funny, kind, and will do everything for those he loves. Also he is the canon LI. You will have to finish other routes and some of his own to reach the true route.
PS Personally I'm not a fan of true routes and canon characters in otome games, because the best part of those type of games is pursuing different characters and deciding for yourself who is the best for MC. (of course, my favorite is Alister here)
Also long battle scenes is not my cup of tea, because of them some routes felt too long (an I have short attention span)
But still I appreciate how much love was put in this game.
Overall:
Originality: 5/5
Graphic: 4/5
Story: 4,5/5
Characters: 4/5
Romance: 3,5/5
My Rating: 4,5/5
The game is free, you can get it from itch.io

Magic of the Lost Temple by Sudha Murty - Books Venue
Introduction
The book "Magic of the Lost Temple" was excellent to read as a children's book because it has everything as delightful reminiscences of youth and the age of a carefree demeanour flowed throughout the story and everyone who falls into this adventure will become a part of the tale while reading.
The book has everything an Indian youngster desires and can connect to. Friendship, vacations, enchantment, adoring grandparents, local folklore, late-night storytelling, picnics, the tedium of everyday duties in the village, living with cousins, and so on are all featured in the book. It's difficult not to love learning about plants, medicinal herbs, village marriages, traditions, and customs as the author brilliantly weaves the narrative into her young readers' brains and emotions.
Available at Books Venue. Buy now at the Lowest Price Online.
"The Magic of the Lost Temple" is the narrative of Nooni, a little girl who is intrigued and enthralled by her grandparents' story of an old stepwell. This stepwell, which was supposedly built by a "celestial architect," was used by "celestial maidens" and is now permanently gone to the hamlet. Whatever happened to it and how it became lost in the ancient forest are all revealed to the reader. The book piques the reader's attention by introducing them to traditional methods of hair oiling and washing, papad preparation, and so on.
The reader will like how the daring and tomboyish Nooni assists a pregnant cow. The reader finds the basic delights of village life and learns to connect with nature while travelling around Nooni's world. We get to experience a narrative that will stay with us for a long time. Get to know me
Hi! My @ is ey3-5t1tch on AO3 and here, but you can call me Isabel! Feel free to interact if you like writing, if we share a love for the same fandom, or any other reason really! I'm a Capricorn, I love bunnies, the stars and the moon and the ocean, because it's the closest thing to space on Earth. I have too many sources of inspiration to count. I want to learn everything there is to learn, but the clock won't stop ticking. Writing is a form of escapism, but also a way to work through my problems. It is me at my most vulnerable. Warning! For context: English isn't my first language! I do my best to proofread and double-check everything that I write, but there will still be mistakes, and some sentences might probably sound a little weird to native speakers. I apologise in advance. Still, I'm working towards bettering myself and my skills every day!
Work in Progress
Ghost of Tsushima: - Tomoe/Original Character: Tomoe has opened her luxurious guesthouse in Kyoto and makes sure the scented oils, and opulent textiles of her rooms only lure the finest upper class clientele. Sooner or later someone truly precious will follow suit. - Jin/Lord Shimura: It's been 5 years since the jitō has seen his nephew, and the memories haunt him just like the wind incessantly sweeps the hardened walls of his castle. An old menace resurfaces. Will they be able to reconcile? P.S. Other characters I would love to write for are: Norio, Iyo, the spirit of Yarikawa’s vengeance (who is she? obsessed), Bettomaru, Lady Masako and Mai, Chiyoko and Yuriko. I'm putting those stories on hold for now because they have no clear outline.
The Sea Beast: - Sarah Sharpe/Original Character: Before the events of 'The Sea Beast.' From a shipwreck, The Inevitable rescues Dido. She chases a mirage of her own, as cold and unforgiving as the southern ice floes. But Sarah is so warm, she is like nobody Dido's ever met, and makes life worth living instead of running from. When Gwen Batterbie offers to make each and every one of Dido's dreams come true, will she accept her offer?
Hotel Del Luna: - Original Character & Grim Reaper: After attempting to take her own life, xx reaches the Blue Moon Hotel. Suspended between life and death, she has a chance to reflect on her past. Will she fall back in love with life?
Road 96: - Bob Winters/Original Character: Wanted Black Brigade leader Robert Winters has a pattern of recruiting young teens to do the dirty work. You're one of them. It's about time he got what's coming for him. [tw SA] Red Dead Redemption 2: - Original Character & Van Der Linde gang: Minnie observes the gang's downfall from within while seeking her own redemption. - RDR3 (or how the NA sniper came to be) by the Strange Man
ORIGINAL WORKS: - a (y/n) story! It's a choose your own adventure kind of story written in the second person, where you get to romance an eldritch being and uncover the mysteries of the small town of Haven. [tw Dead Dove] - coming of age manga for magical girls of all ages! The characters are the wannabe paladin, the girlblogger, the deaconess, the shaman, the toy maker, the heart with a human head, the astrologist, the nun, and psyche. - make a wish! A kid with a really lonely life ends up playing a really big role in saving the world. They grow up cursed to never forget it. Years later, STARGATE Inc. threatens humanity by harnessing the power of falling stars, stealing away people’s ability to dream in order to feed their AI with synthetic data. Will they find the courage to fight back? CROSSOVERS: SKY Children of the Light x V miniseries (1983-1984) "They appeared not long after the invasion. People say they are bringers of death, and they sure look like it. But it seems more like they're seeking shelter from the war, just like the rest of us. I wonder who they really are?" The aliens' appearance already ended decades of scientific and philosophical debate. These moth people, their existence, it wasn't so hard to accept after that. Still, people cower in fear at the whirr of laser beams and fluffy wings alike...

FOURTH LAND: Cloudy Stronghold
Along with the Count of Tharsis, the party meets with Prince Baldur and Whirlwind, now revealed to be Logre, a knight of the Empire. The meeting goes sour when the Count learns that the Empire plans to sacrifice the Medium, the Vessels, and the Sentinels to Yggdrasil in order to restore their barren land. The Trefoil guild can’t let the Medium be killed, either; a fight between them and Logre ensues, after which Logre and the Prince flee.
The party pursues the Prince through the Echoing Library. They meet numerous Imperial knights along the way, many of whom do not agree with Baldur’s plan. Apparently, the Emperor, Baldur’s father, sought a solution without sacrifice. Baldur turned to the current plan after his father’s death.
Deep in the labyrinth, Logre stands in the party’s way. They defeat him soundly, but he gears up for one final attack nonetheless. At that moment, it is Kura who silently extends her hand to him. That is all it takes for Logre to allow his true feelings to show: he, too, does not wish to let anyone die for his Empire’s cause. He decides to tag along to stop his Prince.
The party corners the Prince, with Logre and the Medium doing their best to convince him to give up. He refuses. A massive golem appears; while Trefoil fights it off, Baldur escapes with the Medium. Clover and the others quickly follow him out of the dungeon, and are just in time to see the great trunk of Yggdrasil crack and fall. They know what they must do: enter the remains of Yggdrasil and stop Baldur before his plan is completed. Clover cannot let that damn tree steal what’s left of the Medium’s childhood, like another tree just like it stole her own and those of her friends.
Back in town, Clover confronts Leif and Kura. “I’ve let you keep your secrets, but if your goals don’t align with ours, I need to know. Now. This is too important. I need everyone on board one hundred percent.” Leif assures her that he’s already discarded his previous motive. However, he is nervous. He doesn’t know what Kura is thinking, a strange sensation for him.
To his relief, Kura concurs, and goes one step further. It is time, she says, to tell the guild everything.
Kura and Leif were raised by their mother, an ex-explorer of the very first Yggdrasil dungeon to be discovered. She did not have a guild, however; she mistrusted, even despised others, and so she explored alone. An immensely strong woman, she made it into the very depths of that dungeon by herself, and discovered a dark truth there. There is something powerful at the core of the tree, something with power like that of a god. It exists to revive the world after a catastrophe; she thought it may even have the power to bring a person back to life, or so she told her children.
Kura and Leif did not know their father, or fathers. Nor did they have friends. They had only their mother and each other. She told them all about her adventures, and raised them to be strong, like her. Then, she died. She left them all alone. ("They're more like us than we knew," Calyx thinks.) Thinking back on her stories, they decided to seek out Yggdrasil, to find the power to bring her back to life. They knew it may come at a grave cost, but they didn’t care, as long as they could be with their mother again.
“But then we met the three of you,” says Leif. “We thought that, when the time came, we could proceed into the depths of the labyrinth, just the two of us, and leave the rest of you behind. But the more time we spent with you, the more I came to care about you, and I wondered why my mother was so bent on being alone. And on keeping us alone. Keeping us lonely. I’m... I’m angry. I’m angry she let us live that way for so long!” He stops, to keep himself from crying. Patrick takes his hand, smiles gently.
Clover turns to Kura. “And you?”
“I saw myself in Logre,” she explains. “I saw someone hurting themself to live the way someone else wanted them to. I... didn’t like it. That, and I saw how much happier Leif had become. I decided to care more about the happiness of the living than the wishes of the dead.”
“What if you could do it?” Calyx asks. “What if you do find a way to bring your mom back?”
Leif shakes his head. “That’s just... not something I want anymore.”
Later, to prepare for the harsh journey ahead, Kura goes to Logre and asks him to teach her his skills, especially the way he manipulates the elements, so that she may strengthen her own elemental abilities.
That night at the inn, Leif comes to Patrick’s room. Once there, he makes a confession: “I was holding back with you. You made me feel so comfortable, so safe, but every time I felt that way, I had to remind myself that I wasn’t supposed to trust other people, that my mom wouldn’t want me to. But that feeling became harder and harder to ignore. This whole time, there’s just one thing I’ve wanted to do.” And so, Leif leans in towards Patrick, and kisses him.
After I finished Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold, I was craving more of that Etrian Odyssey goodness so much that I went ahead and jumped into Etrian Odyssey IV, even though I'd told myself I'd hold off on starting anything new for a while. One aspect I wasn't sure I'd get much out of, though, was creating my own party rather than experiencing a set story mode. That was, of course, foolish; I am having a blast. I put a lot of thought into the backstory and dynamics of my crew and have come to love them deeply. So, indulge me for a while, as I introduce... Guild Trefoil!
Guild Trefoil, from the Latin ‘trifolium’, meaning three-leaved plant. This is another name for the clover plant, and also refers to various clover-inspired designs, such as those on heraldic crests. At the core of the guild are the three childhood friends Clover, Calyx, and Patrick.
Ship: Oxalis, another clover-like plant, colloquially known as a false shamrock. In EOIV, all airships are imitations of an original that fell to the ground long ago.
Clover, Sniper: Trefoil’s leader from the back. A fairly serious person. Orphaned at a young age when her parents set out to be Yggdrasil explorers in Armoroad and never returned. She was raised in a small village, at an orphanage for children left behind by explorer parents. She does not blame her parents; as world economies centre more and more around these mysterious labyrinths, other opportunities dry up. Her parents were doing all they could. However, she does hold a certain distaste for those who treat Yggdrasil exploration like a fun past-time, and for those who seek to profit from it at a higher level. She now sets out for Yggdrasil herself in the hopes of sending funds back to the orphanage. As someone with a high level of attention for detail, she is also in charge of the map.
Like the plant, Clover is small but resilient. (Portrait: female, pink.)
Calyx, Fortress: Clover’s carefree best friend. She, too, grew up in the orphanage for children whose parents died as explorers. Growing up surrounded by other children with competing needs led her to become patient and reluctant to complain. However, she is also slow to advocate for herself, something which Clover is quick to remedy. Calyx feels deeply indebted to Clover for all of her support throughout their lives.
Calyx is the collective term for sepals, a part of a plant that functions to protect the flower in bloom. (Portrait: female, redhead.)
Patrick, Dancer: childhood friend to both Clover and Calyx, also an orphan. Gay, maybe a little slutty. Definitely likes to have fun. Developed in a different way from Calyx in response to their environment; because he lacked discipline growing up, he isn’t too responsible and doesn’t tend to take things seriously. To everyone’s surprise, it was his idea to head for Tharsis and seek Yggdrasil. Although he pitched it to Clover as a way to help the increasingly poverty-stricken orphanage where they grew up, his real reason is tied to the boy he likes, Leif.
Patrick is named for Saint Patrick, who is strongly associated with the shamrock, a type of clover. The shamrock may have also been associated with the regenerative powers of nature; as a Dancer, Patrick is the party’s only healer. (Portrait: male, purple hair.)
Leif, Nightseeker: with a sword in one hand and a dagger in the other, Leif is Trefoil’s deadliest member. He seems to have had some training in combat before the beginning of the journey. However, his background is shrouded in mystery. He came to Clover’s village badly injured, barely kept alive by his sister, Kura. As he was tended to by Clover, Calyx, and Patrick, he became especially close with Patrick, and disclosed that he and his sister were on their way to Tharsis to seek out Yggdrasil. However, he would not explain why. He shared that he intended to head out again once he was healthy; Patrick did not see this ending well and offered to accompany him, soon roping his friends into it as well. Leif is a stoic figure, but occasionally lets his guard down and shows his true tenderness and sensitivity. He grows closer with Patrick by the day, but is nonetheless still guarded with him.
The name Leif is most closely associated with Leif Erikson, a Norse explorer who sought new lands. It also recalls a leaf, in keeping with our plant theme. (Portrait: male, red coat.)
Kura, Runemaster: Leif’s sister, who is even more taciturn than he is. Her greatest show of emotion seen by the party thus far was in the moments they first met, when she begged them to save Leif’s life. Since then, she has shown nary a smile. That said, she is very perceptive. This aids her in combat, as she is talented in reading the enemy, but she can also glean a lot about a person’s nature just by watching them. Like Leif, she comes to the group with prior training, showing great prowess with elemental magic. Also like Leif, she refuses to share anything deeper about herself. She shares her brother’s goals, but will not reveal them.
Named for the kura clover, or Trifolium ambiguum, a type of clover that is mostly white with red underneath, a similar colour scheme to her portrait art. (Portrait: female, short blue hair.)
(EOIV portraits can be viewed here, for reference.)
#yeap i'm still playing this#zelda stole my life for a bit but EO is still on the menu baybee!!#this got REAL long lol#just writing thousands of words about my video game blorbos no biggie#the character development tho...!!#real talk i knew this was where the confession would go#BUT i did not exactly know what would be confessed...#it took some real brainstorming to fill in the blanks on the siblings' backstory in a way that makes sense#it was a lot of fun though!

They Will Never be Another Cartoon Like... Over The Garden Wall
LOver The Garden Wall is a cartoon masterpiece and I don’t say that often. Despite being only 10 11 minute episodes long series, it sucessfully tell it story from beginning to the end. The show breaks the cartoon trope that I don’t believe that they’ll never be another cartoon that mimics the masterpiece.
Autumn
Usually, cartoons are bright, colorful, and have a hyperactive environment,
Like the The Amazing World of Gumball
The Ghost and Molly McGree
But for The Over Garden Wall, it’s quiet, not a trace of neon color, and the main colors you see are brown, red, orange, and other autumn colors.
Sometimes making you feel eerie of the world. Although there’s no sign of danger, but it doesn’t feel quite right.
It isn’t just the environment that is quiet, it’s also the music. Instead of being poppy, energetic, and being catchy, the soundtrack is folkier.
Such as Potatus Et Molassus, Prelude, Foward, Oneiro, and Come Wayard Souls
Then look at cartoon openings
Star vs The Forces of Evil,
Steven Universe,
Gravity Falls
and every other cartoon show openings, have the protagonist doing wacky things with hyperactive music playing
But for Over the Garden Wall, it’s slow and calm and doesn’t show you even you the main characters but shows what will the characters encounter in their journey with very calming music.
Unlike any cartoon that’s hyperactive, it’s more calming than the rest which is such refreshing to see especially it’s a kid cartoon.
Into the Unkown
The selling point of the show is the unknown. The protagonist of the place is set in the mysterious land without a clue of how and why they got in the first place, but their one goal is to find their way by pressing forward to the unknown. The world of the OTGW is built-in fantasy but doesn’t have witches, amphibians, and humanoid gems, but more on folktale tales such as
Pottsfield Harvest Festival.
Adelaide the “Good” Witch
The Ringing of the Bell
Making each adventure feel like it’s came right out of brothers grimm fairy tale. Each having it’s own unique story, own setting, and be unfamiliar to one another. So much wonder and mystery is what makes the show so interesting.
The Pilgrims
To make it the journey more enuring are the characters. The protagonists, Wirt and Greg, seem to be one note with Wirt being the more mature but timid and obedient, and Greg being the happy go lucky and naive kid.
However, they grow as the progress through the woods. Having them have chemistry, bond, falling out, and reconcile. Making them have a perfect dynamtic.
What I also enjoy is that theirs more depth into their character, making them more believable. In chapter 9: “Into the Unknown”, Wirt want to take a girl out to a date, but a womanizer will ask her out. Instead of going the hated dork asking the popular girl in school, it’s actually all in Wirt’s head, being paranoid.
People actually likes him, especially Sarah
and Jason Funderburker is more of a dweeb than Wirt.
It just Wirt overthinking about it, making him more a believable protagonist.
Their story of two brothers wandering into the unknown to find their way home, perfecly encapsulate to a fairy tale.
Influences and References
What makes this cartoon so different from other cartoons is its references and influence. Most cartoons will reference movies and animes
Such as Amphibia reference Jojo
The Owl House reference Dragon Ball Z
But with the Over The Garden Wall, their references are much older that not many have heard
Such as the school children are based on characters of Beatrix Potter
People were actually afraid of the nightly air for it may contain poison before the plague was explained in the 1700s.
Characters from “Babes from the Woods” are references to 1930s to 1940s cartoon characters.
While it’s a minor praise to the show, but you don’t see that a lot of cartoons making references to older cartoons.
Beware the Beast
The antagonist of the series, The Beast feels different than your standard cartoon villain. Instead of him taking over the world or bringing chaos, he plays more in deceiving to get what he wants by manipulating.
He isn’t even that powerful, but use words instead of action such as he manipulated the Woodsmen by telling him that his daughter soul is in the lantern and the only way to have her stay alive by chopping edlewood tree and grinding them to oil, which is made out of children that turns into trees.
His design is simple but very terrifying for blending in the shadows.
Reminds me a lot of the wendigo or Herne the Hunter
Then when the light shines on him, his true appearance is horrific for his body is made out of edlewood with twisted faces and holes covering his entire body.
What I truly love about it is how he was defeated. Instead of a big epic battle, good vs evil like every cartoon has done, they instead have Wirt didn’t fall for the Beast words and his threats, he even revealed his soul was actually in the lantern.
Wirt gave the lantern back to the Woodsman for he has his own business to deal with. Making the Woodsman realize that his daughter wasn’t in the lantern and blows out the lantern, ending his terror forever.
It’s clever how they’ve defeated the antagonist.
Conclusion
Over The Garden Wall is the greatest achievement in western animation history. Being only 10 episodes, but it was able to tells a very satisfying story. It didn’t need multiple seasons to tell its story, no sequels, no spinoff shows or a movie, but just a simple and short story. It is filled with childlike wonder with horrific moments, mature themes, and feel melancholy. Truly a masterpiece that can never be mimic.

~ You regarded him as your guardian angel, how ironic... As he was the one you should be hiding under your bed from.
~ Platonic Xiao x Young Reader fic. Small warning for attempted kidnapping and reader gets slapped once (not by Xiao!) Non detailed mentions of corpses and blood.
From a young age you had been able to see things that weren't there or were difficult for most to see. Ghosts, spirits and mystical beings of all kind inhabited your view of the world. You were always dismissed and told you were simply imagining them, you were a child - it was normal for your age to have imaginary friends.
As you slowly grew older your parents became increasingly worried about your sanity, as you told them of these beings and people that no longer lived among you. You chose to simply kept it to yourself in fear of being regarded as insane or outcasted by others.
You had met many kinds of beings during your rather short human life, but one always stayed constant. A young man with green-ish hair and sharp golden eyes. Ever since you could remember, he had been there. Always at a distance and gone before you could blink... At first he made you uneasy with his watchful gaze but soon it made you feel more protected than anything else.
You never had the chance to ask him his name like you did with many others you met. He clearly didn't want to get too close to you, or even talk to you at all. Yet he kept coming back, it was only a matter of when. Sometimes it took only hours and sometimes days or even weeks until you saw him again.
It wasn't you that didn't notice him as you would still feel the presence of others, so surely he was an adventurer of some kind? He would be gone for days or weeks, so he had to be one... He surely had many great stories to tell, yet you were too shy to approach him and he clearly wouldn't. You were both content enough from a distance.
He had saved you on more than one occasion during your childhood. It was during then that he spoke to you for the first time, "Be more careful." He had grumbled with a harsh tone that left you speechless and wanting to curl into a ball.
Over time he began appearing closer and told you his name after your constant pestering. Xiao, an adeptus he told you. You had never heard of an adeptus before, but it sounded important and interesting!
Your parents wondered who told you of these complex and ancient things that you always asked them about, you blamed it on passing travelers which weren't uncommon as you resided near Wangshu Inn, a very popular place for travelers or tourists to drop by. All kinds of people passed it all year round and often stopped to tell tales to the children nearby.
A place like that was supposed to be safe, so your parents rarely bat an eye when they saw you running off in that direction. Neglectful, some would say or perhaps just too trusting of others. You were a sheltered and a rather naive child, so thought little when a person who took a hold of your hand and began leading you away with the promise of a gift.
They didn't get to take you far past the bridge when a person rather familiar to you stood on their way - a rather angry looking Xiao holding a weapon... His body stiff and ready to attack at any moment.
"I suggest you let go of the child." His grip tightened around his weapon, making his knuckles turn white.
"How about you mind your own business!" The person squeezed your hand so tightly it made you yelp out in pain, which did not go unheard by Xiao as his keen eyes narrowed.
You began pulling your hand away which only made their grip tighten, you felt helpless and saw no other choice but to bite the strangers hand. They screamed out as they turned to face you in shock and rage. Their hand was swift as it made contact with your soft face, the slap echoed around as if no other sound existed in the world.
The burn was painful to say the least, the shock caused you to fall on the ground with tears clouding your wide eyes. Your hand reached to touch the red and sore skin of your cheek, a soft hiss leaving your mouth from the brief contact. You were too shocked to hear the battle mere feet away from you as Xiao faught your kidnapper and their goons with ease.
After he was done he approached you carefully, closer than ever before, you raised your head up as his boots came into your view. Seeing your red face and teary eyes caused his heart to ache in a way that he'd never felt before, the feeling so unfamiliar to him...
He held his hand out to help you up, but rather unexpectedly you wrapped your tiny arms around his legs and sobbed. He felt frozen in place as he watched you completely dumbfounded. You raised your gaze up to meet his eyes and begged him to pick you up - which he did, however reluctantly.
He pushed your face into his shoulder so you wouldn't be met with the sight of the corpses and bloodshed. It seems you were exhausted as you quickly fell asleep in his warm and safe arms during the short walk to your home.
Your parents seemed releaved by the sight of you but horrified as you were limp in the arms of a stranger. They almost ripped you out of his arms and began examining you, to their relief you were fine and just asleep. Though the redness of your cheek was not unnoticed by them. They turned back to face the person who brought you with suspicious eyes, but he was gone like the wind...
The next day you were accompanied by one of your parents when out looking all around for Xiao. You wanted to thank him for saving you and bringing you home - even comforting you when he was clearly out of his element.
"No need." He had simply replied when you found him, stoic as ever.
Throughout your human life he continued to watch over you as "your guardian angel" as you had put it. His view was entirely different as he saw himself as more dangerous than anything he could ever protect you from, which is why he was the only one able to keep you safe.
He watched as you grew up and started to live your life like any regular human. You never became anything close to friends as he never let you close, for your own sake he had told you, but he was always there if you needed him.

FIC Snippet: History Class Cryptids
Hob Gadling has many, many issues with one William Shakespeare.
He especially hates Sonnet 29 the most.
The worst part of this? He can't even claim that William bloody attention grabber twat Shaxberd plagiarized those gods-cursed verses. Because while Hob didn't write those words, he certainly lived them. Every bleeding, teeth-grinding, soul-destroying moment.
Goddamn William Shakespeare anyway.
Really, he didn't ask to end up falling for one moody, mercurial disaster of an anthropomorphic personification of a concept. No, sir, he did not. He didn't even know what or who his Stranger actually was and had spent the first century debating with himself whether he had inadvertently made some sort of pact with a demon, the actual Devil, or one of the Fair Folk.
But even then, he remembered thinking, God's blood, I have never seen anyone so fair, so beautiful.
And he'd done the sensible thing and promptly put that thought out of his head because his mother had not raised her children to be fools and Robert "Hob" Gadling was anything but.
He'd done even more sensible things after that. Fought and slogged his way through a few wars, in the name of one king or the other, Plantagenet, Lancaster, York and Tudor. Had his adventures both good and bad, and watched the world around him change and grow. Every moment filled him with joy and wonder. Made his fortune and married his darling Eleanor and had their son Robyn.
And in between those centuries, he'd have a night of stories with the man he'd called his Stranger, a chance to see those lovely, twilight eyes gleam with interest or amusement, to see those lips curve in that tiny, precious smile. Something in Hob's heart eased when he saw that, made him so ridiculously pleased and proud of himself to have brought that expression to his Stranger's face.
That look had not been there, the night that Will bloody fucking Shaxberd had stolen his Stranger's attention.
About a year after he had lost his dear Robyn, Hob had the oddest conversation with a golden-eyed man? woman? in his bedroom. He'd been deep in his cups then and hadn't even thought to be alarmed to see some other strange person in his home.
Beautiful was too poor a word to describe them, fey and dangerous and alluring.

Um. Ooops?

What makes animation for kids?
Is it the inclusion of bold and playful color schemes? The non-inclusion of mature, violent, or highly emotional scenes and themes?
From gripping odysseys of valor to tales of grief and growth, animated movies and shows have always struck a chord in me in a way that many live-action films never have. While I will admit that as a kid, the colors, backgrounds, music, and character expressions were what initially drew me in, re-watching my favorite series as a young adult has bred a renewed appreciation in me for the stories they tell. The poisons of war, genocide, abuse, and corruption in Avatar, the murkiness of ego in Gravity Falls, and the depths of depression and loneliness in Adventure Time, among others – such themes have helped shape my perspectives on life, culture, history, and social issues.
While the medium is often chosen for productions targeted at children, one must remember that animation is not a genre but a medium like any other. Labeling it as infantile only bars one from the flexibility and creative potential of the said medium.
Even if it is for kids, is it really so bad to be lost amongst stories or to maintain a sense of enthusiasm, curiosity, confidence, and awe as you navigate the world?
The way I see it, the world needs a little more of these wonders.

The ‘Spice of Life’✨ Legacy Challenge
Sometimes playing the sims can get a little stale, and somewhat repetitive, especially The Sims 4. I know I can get stuck playing the same stories over and over again, so I decided to create this challenge to add a little excitement and variety to my, and hopefully your, game-play!
After all, variety is the spice of life!
Gen 1: The Wild Child
You’re a sim who loves to get down, go on adventures and spend time with other sims! You can be a bit of a handful for some sims, but that’s okay! You’ve been wild since the day you were born and you wouldn’t want to be any other way. You have about a million things you want to do in your life time and you’re gonna do them all!
Aspiration: Friend of the Animals
Traits: Dance Machine, Adventurous, Outgoing
Generation rules / goals:
Join the secret agent career and get to the top of it before your sim becomes an elder
Once your sim is an elder have them start a new job, keep them on their toes!
Complete the Friend of the Animals aspiration
Master the Dance & Pet training skills throughout your sims lifetime
Have five animals in your sims house-hold at one time (these should be cats, dogs, raccoon, foxes, etc.) - you don’t always have to have five but you should at some point
Have you sim have at least 10 friends and having a falling out with one of them and become enemies
Have a best-friend that is NOT your partner / spouse
Have your sim go out at least once every weekend to either the club, the bar or somewhere else they can dance! They’re a dance machine remember!
Your sim can have as many children as you like, but keep in mind that they have a lot of animals in the house
You must have at least one child in order for them to become heir, they can be adopted or biological, it doesn’t matter!
Go on at least two family vacations, one of these must be to Mt. Komorebi
Have your sim be a very relaxed parent, no rules, no pressure to get good grades, etc. (Parenthood is needed for this but if you don’t have it that’s okay just do your best without it!)
Gen 2: The Money Maker
Your parent was the coolest! but you always wished there was more structure in your life. You’re a perfectionist, and truth be told a little materialistic, but that doesn’t make you a bad person! You love to hangout with friends, playing video games and chatting about the latest Sci-Fi movies. From the time you were a child you knew you wanted the best things in life and were determined to work your butt off to get them!
Aspiration: Mansion Baron
Traits: Perfectionist, Geek, Materialistic
Generation rules / goals:
Have your sim start working as a teenager to save up for their future house
Complete the Mansion Baron inspiration
Reach the max level of the Business Career in either the Investor or Management branch (although the Investor branch makes a bit more money!)
Master the video gaming skill throughout your sims lifetime
Have your sim start their own club once in their teens with ‘Play video games’ as the main activity. Keep this club going throughout your sims life and try to have a club meeting once a week
Make your sim go to GeekCon whenever they can, once they have kids bring them along as well!
Have a hobby that can make you money - kind of like a side job. Whatever skill you choose (painting, flower arranging, etc.) master it
Once your sim completes their Mansion Baron aspiration have dinner parties once a week - Your sim is materialistic and they want to show off the nice house they’ve worked so hard for!
Once your sim becomes an elder have them retire and focus only on hobbies and relaxation (only once they’re reached the max level in their career though)
Gen 3: The Tree Hugger
You grew up in a wealthy household with pretty much everything you could have wanted. You had a great childhood and your admired your parents work ethic, although you knew that when you grew up you wanted to do something more meaningful for the world than investing. So you packed up your bags as soon as you hit young adulthood and moved to Evergreen Harbour
Aspiration: Eco Innovator
Traits: Green Fiend, Vegetarian, Good
Generation rules / goals:
Your sim should be a vegetarian as soon as they hit their teenage years
As a teen your sims should also start their own garden and begin working on their gardening skill
Your sim should complete the Eco Innovator aspiration within their lifetime
Master the Gardening skill throughout your sims lifetime
Master the Juice Fizzing skill throughout your sims lifetime
Join and reach the max level of the Civil Designer career
Your sim should live as sustainably as possible for this generation, this includes owning a bee box, having a dew collector and recycling with the home recycling machine
Have your sim marry someone as Eco-friendly as you bonus points if it’s Knox lol
Have an at home, eco friendly wedding in your sims backyard / yard. Having the wedding cake be a honey cake, get creative with it!
Adopt an animal that’s not a typical pet (raccoon, fox, etc.) your sim found this little buddy while dumpster diving and bonded instantly
Gen 4: The Undecided
You grew up with a parent and grandparent who accomplished great things; they were sims who worked hard and stuck to their guns. You have always been..well a bit different. You can’t even decide what you want for breakfast, let alone pick a career or spouse. This makes you jealous of others like your parent and grandparent who you believe have their life together.
Aspiration: You must change your sims aspiration 3 times during their life but never complete one, not even their childhood one.
Traits: Non-committal, Jealous, Erratic
Generation rules / goals:
Join and quit scouts as a kid; get about halfway through before you quit
Have your sim join at least two jobs as a teenager. They can join and quit more if you like
Get your sim to level 5 of at least three skill during their lifetime before they quit those as well
Change your sims career multiple times, making sure they never reach the top of any career
Get your sim married, and divorced...twice. It’s up to you whether you sim ends up finding someone to stay with. However, your sim must have only have one child from all of their relationships.
Have your sim have an affair during one of their relationships. It’s up to you whether the partner finds out about this or not
Your sim must lose their relationship with the Gen 3 sim (their parent) after a big fight over Gen 4′s jealousy issue. Your sim should never speak to that parent again
Your sim must never be best friends or true lovers with anyone; they are non-committal and that means no matter how much they care for another sim they feel somewhat unsure about every relationship
Gen 5: The Vampire Groupie
Your childhood was less than ideal, although your parent loved you they had a lot of their own problems and that left you pretty lonely at times. Your solace was a particular vampire movie about a sim who falls in love with a vampire. “That could be me,” you though, “That WILL be me.” So when you become a young adult you take everything you have and leave in search of your dream life in Forgotten Hollow, the only problem with your plan is that you’re just a bit squeamish... okay a lot
Aspiration: Master Vampire
Traits: Romantic, Family Oriented, Squeamish
Generation rules / goals:
Your sim should watch a lot of movies as a child and teen. Of course your sim loves that particular vampire movie that definitely doesn’t rhyme with Highlight, but really they love all movies
As soon as your sim becomes a young adult move them into Forgotten Hollow
Meet and start a relationship with a vampire of your choice; you can put a sim from the gallery in your game or date Caleb Vatore, Lilith Vatore, or even Vlad Straud if you want!
I think this goes without saying but your sim should be turned into a vampire for this generation lol
Complete the Master Vampire Aspiration
You can have any career for this generation, it doesn’t matter!
Master the Vampire Lore skill throughout your sims lifetime
Master the Pipe Organ skill throughout your sims lifetime
Start a ‘Vampire Club’ with only other vampires present, you can use this club to do any kind of vampire activity - however, since you left your old life behind, these sims are your only friends
Your sim is squeamish so they personally choose not to drink other sims blood unless absolutely necessary, this means your sim must grow and sustain a garden full of plasma plants
Once your sim obtains a plasma fruit (and two garlic) they can prepare a Sunlight Reversal Cocktail if they like, that way they can go into the sun during the day; this isn’t required though
Your sim must have at least three kids. One of these children should NOT be a vampire. This will be the heir. If all of your children are born vampires you can use a mods to make them human. I recommend MC Command Center, which you can find here: https://deaderpool-mccc.com/#/releases
I also recommend this mod: https://modthesims.info/d/589300/child-vampire-manifestation-v1-9.html which basically makes it so that child vampires can perform any vampire actions, just like teens, young adults, etc.
Gen 6: The Beach Bum
Your parents are absolutely wonderful, but are weird. In fact, you’re convinced that you’re the only sane one out of your whole family. You love them but who in the right mind would want to live the life of a vampire? You knew early on that the vampire life was not for you, and thank goodness you just so happened to be the only sibling born human! I guess you can thank those recessive genes. You want to live the Beach Life, spending your days out in the sun and working to conserve the beautiful island of Sulani!
Aspiration: Beach Life
Traits: Child of the Ocean, Loves the Outdoors, Free Trait / You can pick your sims third trait!
Generation rules / goals:
Your sim must move to Sulani as a young adult and spend their whole life there
Reach the max level of the Conservationist Career
Complete the Beach Life aspiration
Befriend as least one mermaid - your sim can become a mermaid to if they want but it’s not necessary
Marry someone who already lives on Sulani as well
Have your sim live in a house on the beach at least once during your their life
Complete the sea shell collection
Spend ALOT of time outside; fish, ski-do, tan on the beach - your sim loves the outdoors and the Sulani sun, anything they can do outside they will
Keep a close relationship between your sim and their parents & siblings - even though they don’t love the vampire life they love their family
Gen 7: The Tinkerer
You’ve always been a homebody, hanging out in your house on the computer and tinkering with things in the home. Your parent was always nagging you to go outside and play as a kid. As soon as you were old enough to hold a wrench you were fixing things. You knew when you became a young adult you wanted to go to Foxbury Institute and learn to program and create robots!
Aspiration: Computer Whiz
Traits: Genius, The other two traits can be anything you choose!
Generation rules / goals:
* For this generation I ABSOLUTELY recommend this mod which shortens university. It just makes it sooo much easier to complete a degree: https://modthesims.info/d/646803/shorter-university-degrees.html *
Your sim should spend a lot of time inside as a kid, using the computer, reading books, playing video games
Have your sim complete the Whiz Kid aspiration as a child
Master the Logic skill throughout your sims lifetime
Master the Robotics skill throughout your sims lifetime
Master the Handiness skill throughout your sims lifetime
Once your sim becomes a teenager they should be the one who fixes ANYTHING broken within the household
In order for your sim to attend Foxbury Institute for a Computer Science degree your sim must have certain skills (such as computer programming, robotics, etc.) since it is a distinguished degree. You’ll need to work on these skills as a teen to have a chance to be excepted there. If you don’t feel like having your sim work on those skills as a teen your sim can attend Britechester University but they should still work on the robotics skill!
Complete the Computer Whiz aspiration
Graduate university with a degree in Computer Science
Live in a modern style house in any world
Gen 8: The Believer
Your parent has always been a technological genius, creating artificial intelligence. But you’ve always known that science wasn’t needed for there to be fantastical things in this world. No one else in your family believes your crazy ideas about alien but hey, you once heard that your great grandparents were vampires, so it could be possible! Sure you’re a little erratic but you’re determined to prove the existence of aliens, and befriend them. How will you do this? Well by becoming an iron pumping, rocket building astronaut of course!
Aspiration: Bodybuilder
Traits: Athletic, Self-Assured, You can pick your sims third trait!
Generation rules / goals:
You sim must join and reach the top of the Astronaut career
Your sim must live in Oasis Springs
Have your sim complete the Body Builder aspiration - astronauts have to be strong after all!
Master the Rocket Science skill
Your sim will unlock a rocket when they reach level 10 of their career (the rocket can either be the Apollo Rocket - unlocked though the Space Ranger branch of the astronaut career, or the Retro Rocket - unlocked through the Interstellar Smuggler branch. You can choose which rocket you want) but honestly who wants to wait for that, so as soon as your sim gets to level 5 of their career use cheats to unlock the rocket and start building!
Once your sim has completed their rocket you must level up their Rocket Science skill to level 10 and then install the Wormhole Generator upgrade. This will allow you to travel to Sixam and meet aliens!
Your sim must befriend and marry an alien they meet on Sixam. If you don’t like that particular alien you can either come back to Sixam or open CAS and edit them, either is fine.
Have your sim have a baby with their new alien spouse. Only have ONE baby.
If your sims baby is born NOT an alien you can use cheats to make them one. MC Command Center can be used for this and is linked above for Generation 5
Gen 9: The Star of Sixam
You’re an alien and you’ve proud of it! You loved listening to your alien parent tell stories of your home world and knew that when you grew up you wanted to make your relatives on Sixam proud. The best way to do this is of course to become the most famous alien musician the Sim world has ever seen!
Aspiration: Musical Genius
Traits: Self-Assured, Perfectionist, Music Lover
Generation rules / goals:
Your sim must NEVER wear their disguise unless absolutely necessary - they are very proud to be an alien and they don’t see any reason to hide that
As a child your sim should complete the Artistic Prodigy aspiration
Master the Violin skill throughout your sims lifetime
Master the Piano skill throughout your sims lifetime
Your can have your sim master the Singing skill throughout their lifetime if you want, but it isn’t necessary
When your sim becomes a young adult move them to San Myshuno, where their musical dreams can really take off!
Have your sim busk for money in San Myshuno at least 5 times
Have your sim reach the max level in the Musician branch of the Entertainer career
Your sim should marry or be with someone who is also musically interested - you can enter CAS and cheat this or create your sims partner
It doesn't matter how many children your sim has for this generation, but the heir should NOT be an alien - you can use MC Command Center to make them human if you need to
Gen 10: The Apprehensive Actress / Actor AKA the Final Generation!
You grew up in a VERY artistic household, with parents who were both interested in music and one parent who made a huge career of it. You love acting and knew your parent was ecstatic when you started showing interest in acting as a teen. Unfortunately you don’t really like the idea of being famous...
Aspiration: Master Actress / Actor
Traits: Loner, Good, Creative
Generation rules / goals:
Your sim is an artistic child, however we aren’t gonna worry about completing the Artistic Prodigy aspiration as a child because we did that last generation - you can do it if you want though!
When your sim becomes a teen they should begin working on their acting skills
Your sim should reach the max level of the Acting career
Have your sim master the Acting skill
Your sim should marry someone non-famous in a private ceremony with only those sims (or family and close friends if you like) present
Your sim should maintain as good a reputation as possible - they are still a good sim, they are just a bit anti-social
Once your sim finished the acting career and has achieved the Global Superstar rank they should retire
Your sim, now retired from acting moves to one of two lots in Brindleton Bay that have NO neighbours
They should spend the rest of their life making money off of artistic projects such as knitting, painting, etc.
Have your sim leave the house only when necessary to avoid the paparazzi, and if they do go out they must wear a disguise
Your sims spouse can have any career, but they should NOT be famous in anyway
It is up to you whether you decide to have your sim have children and continue the family :)
Well we’ve come to the end of the challenge!! I just wanted to say if you decide to play this challenge or even have taken the time to read it, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It means the world to me to be apart of this sims community ❤️
If you decide to play this challenge on your tumblr pleaseee use the tags #spicechallenge or #spice of life challenge. That way I can see what you do with this challenge, that would be amazing 😊❤️

You a Pig Fucker?
Pairing: Yandere!Techno x Reader
Request: Hey I love your writing especially the yandere ones I was wondering if you could some yandere technoblade headcannons
Word Count: 2.1k words
Warning: yandere, unhealthy behaviors, Death, Zombies, Mentions of war, mentions of scars
A/n: sorry I made this into a fic but in bullet format. Hope you still enjoy!
Your first encounter with him is on the outskirts of your village. You’re collecting some flowers to make flower crowns for the children. And there he is; a gigantic… something standing on the path to your village. It was half pig, but half man all at the same time. It perplexed you. A thing like him hadn’t appeared at the village before, so he was a new experience to you. As the ever curious person you are, you go and investigate you. After talking to him for a bit, he tells you he’s there for some trading, you lead him to the village as you chit chat. You’re the first one to trust him.
He eventually just comes because he wants to visit you. For someone so naive and bubbly, you’re a refreshing presence from the chaos of the Dream smp. You wouldn’t survive a day outside your village, but he wished so badly to take you on an adventure to show you the world. Not the Dream smp, but the world outside your village. The safe part of the world.

Soon he’s called back to the Dream smp by an ally for some stupid fight that they could’ve done on their own. It was a quick task, why was Techno needed again? Though them being on his front door and trying to drag him away made him relent. And so he, begrudgingly, went to the Dream smp to destroy whatever government or enemy who dared offend or go against his friend/ally. He left without ever saying goodbye to you.
Without knowing what happened to Techno, you waited outside the village in your little flowerfield, waiting for Carl and Techno to make their way down the path to you. But they never come. At the beginning of your little “stake out”, the village children wait with you. Playing with each other and making little flower crowns with you while you scanned the horizon every other moment for your friends. Days passed like this, and about a week in, most of the children went back to playing in the village with each other. Some of the other, more mellow children, waited with you. Then the days turn to weeks, turn to months, and you give up actively waiting for him in the field. If he were coming back, he’d know where you are.
A little over a year passes before Techno can even properly get home. The other visits had only been little pit-stops to grab some supplies before hurrying back to the hustle and bustle of war. But no matter how much time passed, he never stopped thinking about you. How you must’ve missed him so much. Or worried for his safety. Just waiting at the village for him to come for you. And then you two could have such a nice life. He’d finally be in retirement. He hopes you weren’t angry at him.
So once he’s properly home, he hurries over to the village and frantically searches for you. Asking the villagers if you were still there and where you were. They’d all give a different location, but it was all in the village. He still had hope! When he does find you though, it isn’t pleasant.
You’re standing at the town center with most of the village children around you. Flower crowns were being crafted between y’all. It felt nostalgic. The first time he met you, you were making a flower crown for the kids. And you’re still doing it! It’s such a sweet sight, a domestic sight. He goes to walk over to you though, and a greeting forming on his lips.
But the children scream, looking at him in fear. Now hold up he knows he’s scary and doesn’t look the best, but he couldn’t have gotten that bad since he last came here. Right? The children alert you, and your panicked eyes meet his. There’s faint recognition in them, but you don’t acknowledge him.
He stops, and everyone scatters. Screams echo across the village, children run between adults towards their houses as the adults fumble around, trying to get their shops closed in the mayhem. Honestly he had no clue what was going on. You were shocked, frozen in place by his presence. Oh god please tell him the rumors of him spread here too-
One of the villagers goes and grabs you, dragging you back into one of the houses. You don’t look happy about that. If anything, it made you more panicked. Couldn’t that villager see what he was doing to you?? You’re getting hurt, scared by them. Let them go!
He charges toward you in an attempt to save you. But some of the older village men ran up to him with any weapon they could. Many had swords, which was an odd thing. When he came here many months ago, they barely had two swords for the entire village. And now almost everybody had one? Heh? What’s going on here?
They chase him out of town and into the woods a far distance away from the village. The audacity of them. Do they not remember who he is? Know who he is? He’s Technoblad, the blood god. Ring a bell? Yet they didn’t care when he tried to tell them who he was. Their parting words were a threat about him coming back to the village. On how’d they kill him and roast him in front of the entire village.
What the hell is their problem?
Later that day, you sneak out of the village to talk to him. You do your best to explain the mood change in the village since he left. Apparently a few weeks after he left, the village got attacked by a group of raiders. Which was bad in itself, but then some odd occurrences started to happen afterwards. There were zombie attacks on the village, which was only something told in stories from the elders. You had presumed they were little tales to get children to stay in line, but you were very mistaken. It wasn’t even a one time occurrence either! It happened almost every night. And other inhuman things came and attacked the village, taking out the far outskirts of the village. So anyone or anything that wasn’t a member of your village was an enemy.
A moment of silence followed your somber news. Techno’s coughing interrupted it though. And you asked what he had been up to since you last saw him. He began his tale about the most recent war he was involved in. Oh he even got a new scar! You were enamored by it, but noticeably less than before. The tale was told in such a nonchalant and humorous way, it was like child’s play. But you’ve now seen the horrors of death before your very eyes, the effects for warfare. So these tales were becoming less like fun little stories and more of the morbid accounts they actually were.
Once he was done explaining his adventures, he asked what you had been doing. Not just the village. You, as an individual, what have you been doing?
You tell of how life didn’t differ much. Visits to the meadow were still common, even with the danger. The children still followed you out too. They wanted to make flower crowns. But the other villagers were worried for the safety of you and the children, so you were sent with protection. One of the village boys went out with you every day along with the children. There was one limitation to everything though; you couldn’t stay out past sunset. That’s when these monsters appeared and attacked the village.
Then you nonchalantly mention how you really like the guy. It was someone you hadn’t really had a chance to talk to. He was the blacksmith’s son. A really strong guy, the silent type. You didn’t mind that, it just allowed you to chat more. To make up for his silence. And he said he really enjoyed it. And oh did you tell him that you got engaged to him? Yeah look, here’s the ring!! You hold up your hand, and on your left hand is a shiny ring.
His world falls apart. Wait, you were his. Why did you go to someone else while he was away? You kept babbling along about this guy, who he didn’t really care about. He felt betrayed. You didn’t wait for him… Why didn’t you wait? He’d always come back to you.
Sunset comes much sooner than either of you anticipated. You rush out a “goodbye” to Techno before you run back towards the village. At the entrance is some guy. He waves as you, and you run right into his arms. And you give him a kiss. You’re giggling as this shitty man swings you around. Hand-in-hand, you two walk off into the safety of the village.
Your peace couldn’t last forever. Techno would have made sure that your life was lived in luxury and yet you had this audacity to do this to him. To choose a nobody over him? He could provide for you! Give you all the attention you wanted! Even protect you. That guy probably can’t even lift a damn sword! Look he’ll show you that he’s the only choice.
During the nightly zombie siege, he walks in like he fucking owns the place. Some of the zombies attack him, but they go down in a small hit. They’re weak creatures compared to somebody like him. He stalks around the village, looking or any sign of you. The zombies are stronger than he thought or this village was much weaker than he originally thought. Now this? Another reason why you should just leave with him.
Your screams of terror echo across the village, and Techno frantically looks around for you. The zombies could attack such a defenseless thing like you. Come on where are you? Fortunately for Techno, you run right into him. You give him a tight hug around his waist, tears staining the fabric under your face. Some zombies are following you, but they’re very easy to take out.
He looks in the direction you came from though and saw the real issue. That fucking guy. Uh, Techno didn’t even want to refer to him by a name because he was that unimportant. He wasn’t going to be living much longer anyways. That guy you were with? Yeah he was surrounded by zombies, struggling to fight them off. But he did, so bravo for him. Though it was a pitiful job. Here, let Techno show you how it’s done.
He unlatches your arms from around him and walks toward this “fiance” of yours. The guy looks in your direction and runs towards you, yelling your name. Like you were in danger. You were in danger alright. In danger because of this fucking guy. He couldn’t keep you safe. See how easy it is to take him down?
He looks over at you for validation for his actions, but he sees absolute terror. And then he remembers what he did. Oh yeah, i guess skewering your sword through the body of your lover’s “lover” isn’t exactly a pleasant sight. But see? He’s such a better option! If this “fiance” were able to protect you, he’d be able to defend himself against Techno. Now come on, let’s go home.
And then you’re dragged away from your village and to the empty tundra. The last sight you get of your village is it falling under the zombie siege. Yells and screams emanate from the town. But the further you get from it, the quieter it gets. Until there’s no sound coming from the village anymore.
