i will throw out some warehouse concepts for your repertoire: hastily duct-taped polycarbonate windows. metal mesh security screens - wait, what was even stored in this massive cage? loading docks and dumpsters are often located together. a tangle of mechanical ductwork hanging from the exposed steel structure. slowly rotating industrial fan blades whooshing lazily. barbed wire framing a chain link gate. Authorized Personnel Only sign. Low Clearance sign. the pull-in-case-of-emergency lever. does the emergency system still work? do the lights flicker? are you surprised it's still hooked up to the power grid? what color is the water that comes out of the taps? you try to turn the door handle and the handle pops off.

if it's an old warehouse, is it Rusted? Weathered? Is the paint faded? Chipping? Blistering? Sun-bleached? Does it smell like machine oil? Like wood? Like chemicals? Does the breeze from the nearby river drift in through the broken windows - and the air is surprisingly fresh? Does it smell like decaying wood? Like garbage? Like blood?

Has it been 30 years since someone swept the cracked concrete? When you trip and fall are you covered in the dust of time - years of pollen and wood splinters and flaking paint?

it often works, narratively, to not describe these things too much. because most people who are in a warehouse in some crime-related situation are not going to, for example, search the nearest pallet and check the contents. like, Chay is not going to mentally process the industrial nuances of his kidnapping (lmfao) [unless he's been stuck in this room for a long time and now very, very bored.]

(but honestly Kim might. Porsche might. those two are detail-oriented, though, in completely different ways. porsche is always trying to get the upper hand/get himself out of situations. kim needs all the answers on some 5D chess shit. You never know what might be a lead.)

but if it ever comes down to it again i'm going to describe the fucking industry. maybe there's faded lettering painted on the outside of the warehouse which describes that it is a logistics company. they ship things. maybe it is a glass manufacturer and they are boxing windows. garments. ceramics. electronics. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY THINGS ARE MADE AND SHIPPED OUT OF THAILAND?

i know KPTS is some richboy mafia shit... but gangs, organized crime - they are often borne of the working class and thus entwined with working class industries. i do not reason the theerapanyakuls tango exclusively with other richboy mafia. somewhere along the line it's the working class and a fucking array of industries.

maybe that industry is a cover for something? or maybe they just broke in to this abandoned place and there is no connection at all? maybe there is evidence of a previous usage? was this once an auto-factory with car-sized elevators that's been retrofitted into an industrial-scale bakery?

you can continue to gloss over whatever the fuck is going on in this warehouse beyond a single kidnapping, a single deal. you have my blessing. i have not always given ~the bad guys~ much of an identity. but just a sentence or two identifying the industry these thugs come from can actually really shape your plot in interesting ways. it is like a freebie. you can make the crime sequences so much more dynamic:

suppose its a pillow factory and then there's a shootout and when the machine gun rounds run a line through that giant cardboard box over there, feathers explode out of it and now everyone is inhaling bits of down and coughing. and now you found the last guy that was hiding behind a shipping container because he couldn't stop choking on goose feathers.

the point of this post is to help you workshop your CONTEXT - not to shit on the vague warehouse full of unidentified bad guys. sometimes it is just not necessary to the plot to describe these things

Eparch's entire last segment really does make me think he was the 'well-intentioned extremist' that got extremely lost/messed up along the way. Ok, let’s get this over with here’s everything that was wrong with this ATLA adaptation. I’m gonna try to start from the beginning there’s a lot lmao:

I didn’t care for them showing the genocide of the air nomads. This is what i feel like what they meant by wanting to “appeal to GOT fans” it felt like it was trying to be edgy. Changing Aang to “needing to clear his head” instead of literally running away from his responsibilities because he’s a scared goddamn child was pure stupidity. And takes so much away from him. Even the scenes going back and showing Aang “being so much more special” than the other kids was so stupid. He wasn’t “so much more special” that’s the point. Up until Aang discovered he was the Avatar he was normal! He lived a normal life his friends treated him like everyone else! that’s literally WHY he ran away! Because they instantly started treating him differently after it became known he was the Avatar!!

Holy shit all the shit they tried to shove together in the arcs. From omashu to the southern air temple to sokka’s fucking ice berg trials. It was clunky, cheap, and downright disrespectful to the source material and I 100% support the creators leaving lmfao cuz this shit is a joke.

So much happens with so little explanation but at the same time core character traits are overexplained. They’re constantly saying “oh you’re so kind, you’re so fierce, etc” having characters verbally DESCRIBE other characters charter traits, instead of fucking showing it. Katara for example (just one of the many characters they fucking butchered but i digress) in the opening scene when Katara screams at Sokka for his sexist remarks and breaks the ice that showed just how unconsciously powerful she is at water bending. She is a prodigy. This is shown to you literally in the opening moments of the show. After discovering Aang in the iceberg Katara runs head first at the iceberg with Sokka’s boomerang to bust it open. This shows that Katara is impulsive and rash but kind and caring. She is literally breaking open the ice having no idea what it will do in the name of helping someone who clearly needs help (who realistically would most likely be dead) but she tried. Like that whole opening of ATLA told you so much about her character WITHOUT LITERALLY HOLDING YOUR HAND AND TELLING YOU. Then taking out Sokka’s sexism and letting him unlearn it was pure fucking lazy. Reducing Katara to “younger sister who needs to grow up” was a bad joke.

Like listen i’m not a “oh my god it should’ve been frame for frame like the cartoon” like there’s room for acceptable changes and space to add to the narrative. The way they got into Omashu was an acceptable change (not the jet part but hitching a ride was fine), adding Lu Tan’s funeral was GREAT it ADDED to the overall story and added depth to Iroh, even the bit with the Earth Kingdom soldier was good. Adding in Ozai’s little dogs at Azusa showing him pushing her behind the scenes and pitting her against Zuko was also nice imo. Like these are things they could’ve added and worked with the original creators on. Even the part where in the bar they’re like in the background easter-egging about the canyon episode like that was fine anything that was pure filler could’ve been mentioned in that way. But that’s the thing with ATLA few things are PURE filler. Almost every ep arc serves a genuine purpose, which is why shoving it all in a blender and hoping for the best was really not it.

Even Appa and Momo were reduced to like a mode of transportation (i also didn’t like this in legend of Korra bison became more like cars had less personality and purpose and were just A Way To Get Around i get why bc there were so many etc etc but still) and like a pet. When they’re not! they’re genuine characters! ESPECIALLY APPA! They play crucial roles in the plot they have a purpose and agency they’re not just “funky animal side kicks” which is what they feel reduced to, to me. Appa is so vital to the group and episode that is 90% silence and is just about his time away from aang is literally one of the best episodes in atla.

Cora getting a little overwhelmed when the gifts and meals start being sprinkled with signs of courting... like, a brush of a hand or Law bringing them somewhere secluded on a walk and carefully getting into Cora's space. GOSH the 100 hearts being for Cora... another hopelessly romantic tribute from Law, the most Extra Adult-ass Emo walking around. It's exactly like you said, that's one of my favorite things about Law around Cora--the depth of his emotion... we know Law had this deep capacity for hatred when they first met—he was just this well of resentment and anger, even as a kid. But after seeing just how far Cora would go for him, that intensity got completely redirected into love (or "low-key obsession" haha—the naming his pirate crew after Cora and modeling his coat and tattoos after him). It's especially wild considering how "reserved" Law is around others, I guess? Like, he wants everyone around him to Stop Being So Ridiculous, but I feel like with Cora he would just want more and more, to draw out bigger and bigger reactions from him and encourage Cora to screw convention and run off with him. bc in his head they're all that really matter...? he's an all-or-nothing kind of guy!! I guess

And yeeeeah on Cora's side, it's definitely a difficult ship to pin down. I'm kind of like you, really picky about how I'd want it to play out... Part of me doesn't want Cora to be completely oblivious, and I don't love when people strip out how much of a badass/tough/discerning guy he is (though I do love the klutzy, naive-ish side of him). I don't know......... I think I like how I laid it out in the tweet, where Law has always sort of harbored feelings for Cora in the form of puppy love that transformed into an all-consuming fixation. Then it's just a matter of Cora finding out about it, denying those feelings (but the reason changes from "I couldn't see Law that way!!" to "he couldn't really feel that way about me/he could find someone more 'his equal' (in age? status? what excuses are you making Cora??)" over time. And at that point, when Law knows Cora wants him just as bad but is holding back from it, he just snaps. 😂

If they really did have just one long separation, and then a sudden reunion, I like the idea of Law re-learning who Cora really is... Like, he has faded memories of Cora's bravery and goofiness and weird little habits, but he wasn't prepared to meet him again and only end up liking him MORE. He learns about what Cora went through as a kid/in Doffy's shadow, and seeing how he still stayed so kind and brave just makes Law wilder than ever about him lmao!!

CLAUDIA AND MADELEINE DIIIIIED. HORRIBLY. FOR ENTERTAINMENT. even going with the "armand, poor little meow meow," version of events, florence du lac is turning over in her GRAVE that louis did not shun this man, let alone attempt to kill him. instead he uses him to punish his ex (i mean yes, florence would be seated for that massive revenge on lestat, louis), and then just. be armand's, what. loveless(not totally) companion for eternity? armand doesn't care if louis settles. I know the wrath of louis de pointe du lac, this ain't it. armand: you are teflon. amazing.

AND THEN. in 2022. louis throws armand into a wall and tells him to gtfo. like. wow. wow. I am an armand fan, I'm not gunning for him, but after spending 3/4 of a century living a brutally painful lie because of armand and suffering more than jesus christ over the death of his daughter because of armand--also the armand who was arranging to have louis burned alive for entertainment, and translated "banishment" to "hellbox"(!!!!!)--after all this is revealed (and I get it's a lot for louis to take in), louis does not explode that building in a ball of fire somehow. armand: you are teflon. akasha is watching in awe and fear. do all the heinous shit you want, you still get to have sex with and cohabitate with louis de pointe du lac for 70 years, as long as you're willing to settle for some lack of enthusiasm and a suicidal partner. no repercussions. go conquer the world.

I have many thoughts bc this is one of my fave franchises, so a big chunk of this is me talking about New Tales (all under the read more so I don't clog ppl's dashes or spoil stuff <3)

I can answer 1 and 2 together - my least favorite manufacturer is Tediore entirely because of New Tales. It used to be Atlas because I personally didn't like the whole concept of all these major multibillionaire world-ending companies slowly turning "good" because they were now ran by Lillith's allies? Rhys in BL3 was very underwhelming, funny to revisit but very underwhelming.

I liked the vibe Atlas had back in the first Tales, when Rhys was shown to end up as a very capable and somewhat ruthless CEO (with a very good outfit that BL3 entirely forgot about......im stiLL MAD ABOUT THAT.......) not just Your Funny Uncle With The Moustache Getting Bullied In Promethea :tm:

And. Like, I really LOVED the idea of the weakest manufacturers making a big fucking comeback, y'know funny silly cheap plastic gun Tediore is now The Ruler Of The Universe, who could've thought! But....... The way they handled it in New Tales was, pretty lame?

First of all, from what I remember at the top of my head, Tediore was founded by a woman - Mrs Tediore, right? And then in New Tales, there's a bunch of dialogue/jokes about how Susan Coldwell broke the glass ceiling and how revolutionary it is for a woman to be CEO but. Again, Mrs Tediore founded Tediore.

And then, in that very same fucking game, there's yet another woman as a CEO that no one bats an eye to (IM NOT GONAN THINK.A BOUT THE IMPLICATIONS OF ATHENA BEING THERe. IM JUST NOT). And this also comes from a franchise with a lot of women in very important positions - pointing out how Susan Coldwell is ruthless and important because she's breaking the glass ceiling by being a woman in power when there's many, many, many other female characters doing even cooler shit just....really downplays Susan as a villain. It also puts a weird light onto the already established characters like, Moxxi, who is fully aware of the way people perceive her and uses it against them. Or Lillith who had to step up as the new leader of the Crimson Raiders. Or Maya's journey of finding herself outside a cult that used her. Or Tyreen's entire journey and what led her to have a god complex. As if THEIR struggles and stories aren't that miportant when compared to the vague shit Susan did to become CEO of TEDIORE out of all things lmfao

And putting Susan Coldwell ASIDE of Tediore, they still don't have a leg to stand on, they really just weren't that much of a threat at all. All new characters that were meant to be threatening FROM Tediore just. Died. Gone. Irrelevant. A blink and you miss it.

Something about Borderlands that I really like is that, when one of the major companies or big groups within the setting go through changes like, a new leader or a discovery or something, then it's got big consequences for everyone. It's not just "oh hey i'm the new boss, the previous is dead". You can see it in Atlas' rise to power after figuring out eridian technology and in their subsequential fall that lets other companies get the headstart colonizing other planets. You see it most notably in Jack's own rise to power and then fallout, all the people it affects. His presence AND absence means something to the story.

But Tediore? The entire company becomes so fucking irrelevant the second Susan Coldwell gets the fucking Cosmo and Wanda looking ass gems, they don't affect anything at all. Promethea was shit from the beginning, the process of rebuild was fueled by Atlas and Promethea remained Like That because of Atlas Choosing To Move Headquarters To Space :tm: not because Tediore's sudden arrival.

The moment Jack became CEO, Hyperion as a company affected A DOZEN of characters, with or without his direct intervention - Tediore in New Tales just sits there as a cheap way to bring back manufacturers who haven't done anything relevant to the story so far because all the other ones are too busy being part of the good guys now . They're just a stepping stone for Susan and nothing else and it's very fucking sad?? The real scary villain of New Tales is the introduction of GOD-LIKE SENTIENT GEMS, not a company like we're used to. It makes everything feel disconnected, it makes death and life feel cheap in a franchise that insists on how much every group of protagonists has survived and faced together.

Anu's character revolves around Atlas and her brother. Her entire journey starts because she's fired and her brother needs help. Tediore has nothing to do with any of these things. And entire thing she has about how she'd like to remain peaceful and non-violent? Why not fucking bring PANGOLIN, or ANY of the fucking shield/health companies that exist????

Then there's Octavio, you can argue that he's the most affected by Tediore's involvement because his entire theme is about the community of Promethea, but they do essentially nothing with that aspect of him in the game so it falls flat on its ass. His entire goal is to be popular and have a company, but all it led to was a small consultation company? It's so weak, it only makes him look like the comedic relief and nothing else, which in turn only makes his strained relationship with Anu all the more sad. AND THAT WAS MY FAVORITE PART of this game, the fact that Anu and Octavio's relationship as stranded family was a focus and that you could tackle it, but tackling it through dream sequences with the fucking magical gems is cheap and I seriously can't even remember if there's any actual scenes of these two talking to each other for real, without any dream sequences in the way

And then there's Fran, who does have some of the funniest moments in the entire game and whose design make me really happy. But like the others, she has. no involvement with Tediore, her fucking store got destroyed by MALIWAN.

And then by the end Tediore is just fucking gone ok bye

DO YOU SEE WHY TEDIORE AND SUSAN BEING THE BAD GUYS MAKES SENSE BUT AT THE SAME TIME, IT DOESN'T? THEY'RE IRRELEVANT, BRO, IT MAKES ME MAD. IF YOUR VILLAIN DOESN'T HOLD UP, YOUR ENTIRE STORY CRUMBLES!!!!!!!!!!!!

The closest to canon, in which I just adhere to the major beats of the story and try to expand on events that went unnoticed, characters that ended up underdeveloped or straight up ignored / OOC. etc. In this one Katagawa dies, but not before I expand shamelessly on his strained and complex relationship with his family and the company and how blurry the line between those things (yes im thinking about the barcodes) and his abilities as a proper corporate shithead with lots of money, resources and enough genius to STEAL FROM FUCKING ZER0, WHY IS NO ONE SCREAMING SO HARD ABOUT THAT, THIS FUCKER STOLE FROM ZER0 OR BOUGHT SOMEONE WHO COULD DO IT and thought process behind it all. This one also started because I felt horrible at the way Ava was portrayed in BL3, cause the writing is painful but I do love the introduction of a clearly immature Siren to the group of veterans who are supposed to know better and the struggle that comes with accepting change and loss. Also because that Maya kill pissed me off, I love the Calypsos but my god that was so fucking lame for Maya? But this one was written way before New Tales so,,,

The closest to canon V2. in which I take New Tales into consideration. And it pains me. And I never finished it because I'm not strong enough. But trust me when I say I'm making those stupid fucking magical rocks as eldritch and unsettling as possible. The self indulgent one, in which everything I would've loved to happen, just happens. And New Tales doesn't exist! Sasha and Fiona are there doing things! Commandant Steele DOES get lore! Athena does NOT fucking become Hyperion's CEO <3. And I expand a little on how the TPS gang were, in fact, a very dysfunctional found family whose love language was ultraviolence and how Timothy and Claptrap cope with everyone's deaths. And Pickle is there too somewhere, having fun. And Gaige doesn't get forgotten until some DLC, she's part of the B team from day 1 and her alcoholism is addressed. And the sirens sisterhood is developed upon outside of just the ones within the Crimson Raiders, something or another about how sirens are still really alien beings and therefore they have vastly different. opinions, thoughts, feelings, experiences? that are inherent to being a siren because you are, in fact, borrowing the power of all the sirens that came before you. the loss of identity is very cool, i think, especially when its paired with the actual choice to remain as you are out of love for your friends. something something, lillith and maya are actively choosing to keep their respective humanities and nourish it, rather than kill it for power like tyreen mightve done. something about how sirens and eridians are so similar but so different. something about Guardians specifically being misguided in their hatred towards sirens due to the loss of their masters. I do think about the Guardians left behind by the Eridians throughout all the universe a normal amount, thank you

The delusional one, in which Angel also lives and Timothy is there. And he has some sort of dysfunctional weird friendship with Katagawa. I feel like the majority of borderlands fans just, have this specific AU in their heads somewhere - specifically just making Angel alive and having her be around Timothy. Like, it just feels like good catharsis for both of these characters, whether they end up as found family or go their own separate ways. But I'm putting all these three through absolute hell before they can finally move on from their shitty pasts with each other as found family. And Ava is Angel's little sister because they both deserve to have a good familial figure in their life that isn't. A Guy That Reminds Them Of Someone Who Hurt Them In The Past. there's something to be said here about me drawing parallels between Katagawa and Troy but we're not getting into that now. And Katagawa forms an identity outside corporate business and understands that he has no fucking right stepping into his surviving sister's life despite having grown as a person. And Troy gets to betray Tyreen and their unhealthy power dynamic is addressed properly and it culminates into BOTH of them fusing with the fucking Destroyer and they die together, with themes of "I do love you, you're my twin, you're my sibling, we came into this world together and we will leave it together, and i'm sorry i took our friendship for granted".

The one with OCs, in which I use my and my friends' OCs to shamelessly insert them in the narrative and this one is my absolute favorite because BL3 enforced my main plot AND THEN NEW TALES RUINED IT WITH ATHENA AS THE CEO OF HYPERION SO ANYWAY, IM LOOKING AWAY. MY OC AND KATAGAWA HOLD HANDS AND MAIM EACH OTHER, IDC

so okay. for reference, cable aka nathan summers is this time-traveller who was born many years in the future in a dystopic society. his goal was to hop around and prevent that future from happening. he ended up joining the xmen and yadda yadda, rest is history. domino is his on-again off-again love interest and deadpool is his partner. i'll get to it in a moment

so dominos power is being able to control luck. no, really. she gives her opponents bad luck and in turn gives herself good luck. it is (from the wiki) "…largely participatory - in order for the luck to take effect, domino herself must engage in an action whose chance she can affect. for example, if domino were to stand before a hail of bullets, she would be shot. instead, she must take action; in attempting to avoid the gunfire, she will miraculously bob and weave just right to avoid every single shot." which is SO interesting on its own to pull vriska analysis from. also, one kind of funny note about her design is that her right eye is surrounded by black in the shape of an eyepatch! that eye also glows sometimes. so you see why i think she was the inspiration for vriska. there's also a lot of similarities with her backstory and personality but i'm not a domino scholar and i don't wanna mischaracterize her here so all i can say is if you want to know more about her and how she inspired vriska, check the wiki lmfao

so now lets wrap around to cablepool, the best example of nicieza yaoi this side of the mississippi. i will be perfectly honest this one isnt even subtext its just canon. they quite literally went to intercourse pennsylvania together. you can watch this amv for examples of what their dynamic is like ive been entranced by it for all of today. also this one because its really funny. regardless. so deadpool was originally created in new mutants vol 1 issue #98 as a mercenary who was hired to take out cable so they spent a lot of their early years trying to kill each other. they are forced to stop avoiding or attempting to kill each other in cable & deadpool vol 1 because of this virus that had infected both of them and thus the only way for them both to survive was to merge their dna structures in an event which i like to call cablepool homoerotic goop cannibalism. the result of this is that cable cannot time travel without taking deadpool with him. following your lover across the multiverse because of fate and to save the world? thats vrisrezi as hell! anyway they cure the virus and they get to stop bodysliding together woohoo. a similar thing happens when cable gets lost in alternate universes and deadpool has to travel through a bunch to save him. then there was everything with cable and providence … so providence was this little paradise island that cable built off of his orbital station called providence that got attacked by aliens and space pirates and deadpool ran in to help only to find oops! cable doesnt actually fully trust him! so cable 'dies' (he doesnt actually die he comes back) along with providence because thats how much he doesnt trust deadpool. which is reminiscent of the jack noir confrontation innit? vriska was so convinced of her own heroism and skill and so afraid of trusting others that she preferred to die than not be at the center of the narrative (fitting as well since deadpool is obviously a very meta character lol). they havent interacted a whole lot beyond that after cable & deadpool ended because the x-editors are evil and hate me and they hate nicieza yaoi and also deadpool is now a Popular Character so they have to tear him away from his roots and make him gay with spiderman instead for some reason. but i get it. get me on a cable & deadpool book i'll be normal (i will not be normal). anyway that book ended in 2008? iirc? which means it was likely On The Mind whilst writing homestuck. and if hussie wasnt into deadpool but WAS into daredevil enough to make a daredevil clone oc i will eat my hat because deadpool And specifically cable & deadpool is like, completely in tune with their writing style. anyway theres my proof that domino is vriska but cablepool is vrisrezi that was most certainly not an excuse to talk about my xmen Hope you all enjoyed it👍
