((a Pokemon IRL blog run by @theangstking ))
HELLO! and welcome to my blog! my name is Trianux, and I work at the Midsommar Sanctuary in Galar! which, also has its own blog, here : @midsommarsanctuary !
this is my personal blog, so while I may talk about things somewhat related to work - and I'll keep things appropriate - I'm hopefully not gonna fuck up my work-life balance with this! /silly
I'm initially from Unova, but moved to Galar after some...stressful events, to get away from things and start working with ancient Pokemon.
here is a list of my main team, and then below the cut I'll include some more Pokemon I have, battlers and non-battlers alike, and a tag directory!
my starter, Isolde, a Hisuian Samurott. how I got my hands on him is a little unorthodox, and caused quite a bit of panic - but he inspired a lot of my choice to focus on researching ancient Pokemon.
Etta the Archeops is one of the other partners from my initial journey in Unova. getting my hands on her fossil was such a wonderful experience, and she's always been such a lovely, mischievous gal.
Hattie the Cofagrigus has also been by my side for quite a while. I caught her right before my gym battle with Elesa. she's easily depressed, but I've gotten good at cheering her up over the years.
Alvah is my Hisuian Zoroark. I met him as a Zorua, when he was taken in by Professor Juniper after being abandoned. I fell in love with him, and gained his trust, so was allowed to take him! he's shiny, as well.
Anubis the Hisuian Typhlosion has plenty of energy. a Pokemon I adopted after leaving Unova, I met him as a Quilava and just absolutely fell in love with him. he's gotten a few of my teammates out of some tough spots as well!
Brennus the Hisuian Braviary is actually the son of my Braviary. he retired from battling soon after I left Unova, due to a few injuries that left him unable to battle. Brennus has been a wonderful partner for me however.
Caspian the Hisuian Goodra is just a big ole loveable mess of goop! gotta love this big guy, he's great. a bit of a goof.
Hilderic the Golurk has always been very calm and collected. he doesn't battle much anymore, but whenever he does battle, he's certainly a force to be reckoned with.
on to the non-battlers, we have :
Cynebald, the Hisuian Sneasel. he's just a little guy! he likes to hang out and play.
Ece the Hisuian Growlithe currently has no desire to evolve. she's very cuddly and warm!
Gulmira the Hisuian Decidueye likes to help look over the two above, as well as other baby Pokemon. she's very "mom-like".

Summary:Â Sakusa Kiyoomi's heart has always pointed north. He wonders if it's broken when it starts to point inexorably towards her.Â
Set in the aftermath of The Astrophile, in the same universe as Storm Chaser.
Pairing: Sakusa Kiyoomi / f! reader
Genre: Fluff, angst, romanceÂ
Wordcount: 7.8kÂ
Masterlist link here
A/N: Dedicated first and foremost to Ami @softsakusa, one of the first people to convince that my writing isnât shit and that I should keep creating fics.Â
This fic is also for all the readers who wanted a happy ending for the reader in The Astrophile (which sets out the backstory of the reader, Iwaizumi and Oikawa), and also follows the events of Storm Chaser (which follows the turbulent relationship of Miya Atsumu and now wife - I named her Kaiyo in this fic to avoid confusion!).Â
Hope you like it - reblogs and comments are always dearly appreciated <3
It must be the worst meet cute of all time.Â
That is â if heâs using that phrase correctly. It keeps appearing in the god-awful English movies Bokuto and Miya keep playing during team movie nights that makes him want to tear his hair out.Â
But yes, he meets her at Miya Shinoâs seventh birthday party, the birthday girl the apple of Miya Atsumuâs eye, the princess of his castle, the most perfect angel in the entire heavens - the list of pet names growing longer and longer the more the obnoxious setter prattles on about his daughter.Â
And apparently Miya Shino is a chip off the old block, and is as obsessed with volleyball as her father. Which means that he, one Sakusa Kiyoomi, is forced to turn up on a Saturday afternoon for a birthday party to teach a group of children roughly about the same height as his kneecaps how to play volleyball.Â
There are plenty of other MSBY players that Miya Atsumu could have rounded up to fritter away a Saturday afternoon. Hinata, for instance - the sunny, fiery headed opposite hitter a perennial favourite with young fans. Or Inunaki - the liberio has an amiable personality that he certainly wouldnât mind snot nosed children hanging off his arms like a walking, talking monkey bar. But no, Hinata is apparently busy on a weekend meditation retreat, and Inunaki is at his sisterâs wedding party, so both of them managed to escape this travesty of a birthday party.Â
That leaves him with Bokuto whoâs practically a child himself, beaming, bumping balls at screaming children with one hand, the other hand lifting another child above his head. Meianâs here too but his own kid is somewhere in this gaggle of monsters anyway, so heâs here to carry out his parental duties â hopefully his presence might balance the sheer chaos heâs sure heâs about to face.  Â
âOmi-omi you made it!â Atsumu greets him with a slap to the back.Â
Sakusa resists the urge to bare his teeth. Is this what hell is? Screeching gremlins underfoot, the nauseating smell of fried food permeating the air.Â
And itâs probably because heâs still in a horrified daze at the situation heâs put himself in (which Atsumu is either too dense to pick up on or already immune due to the series of similar expressions he pulls at him on a daily basis), Atsumu manages to snap a party hat on his head, before he prances off in victory.Â
Sakusa snarls, ripping off the red paper hat off his head.Â
Why on earth did he agree to this again?Â
âSakusa-san! Thank you so much for coming!âÂ
His glare softens by a fraction.Â
Miya Kaiyo, Atsumuâs long suffering wife approaches him, careful not to touch him, waving at him instead. He appreciates her thoughtfulness, so he thaws a little, giving her a slight nod in greeting.Â
Right, sheâs the reason why heâs here.Â
Heâs always been fond of her - competent, patient, intelligent, far too good for her idiot of a husband. Approximately a year ago, he sought her professional help with his accounts. He graduated with a business degree from Chuo University, so he can tell there is obviously something fishy that his manager is pulling with his finances, but the accounting courses he took werenât in depth to pinpoint the problem. Miya Kaiyo, on the other hand, a trained forensic accountant with a nose like a bloodhound for fraudulent accounts, nailed down the problem within a week. So when she asked him after a game whether heâd be free to attend her daughter's birthday party, he hadnât been able to turn her down.Â
âIt was no problemâ, he says stiffly, already itching to spray the whole place down with disinfectant. âIâm glad to be here.âÂ
Kaiyo laughs at his obvious lie, tugging at his sleeve to seat him in a corner. âYou donât have to go play with the kids if you didnât want to! I invited you so we could catch up, and besides, I did want to introduce you to someone.âÂ
âHm.âÂ
He doesnât try to mask his reluctance this time. Kaiyo means well, he knows, but between her and his mother, heâs tired of having to fend off match making attempts. Itâs not like he canât get a date â he can and he has, itâs just difficult to find someone willing to put up with his prickly personality and busy schedule.
âWell sheâs not here yet, so youâll have to wait. And while weâre waiting, tell me howâve things been, Sakusa-san?âÂ
Grateful that heâs not going to be forced into shepherding children into playing anything remotely resembling an actual volleyball match (he suspects he might have more luck teaching cats how to do the conga), he settles into his seat, mouth stretching into something resembling a smile. He lets her chatter about work, and theyâre deep in a discussion about his plans post-volleyball (because he can feel the countdown on his career in his creaking bones, his aching sinews)Â when Atsumu swoops in on him again, like a vulture seeking easy prey.Â
âWhatâcha doinâ with my wife, Omi-omiâ, he slips a hand around Kaiyoâs waist mock possessively.Â
She swats at him. He ducks, raising his hands in surrender.Â
âI enjoy talking to an actual adult sometimes, âTsumu!âÂ
âOh come on, I already have to share you with âSamu most of the time, now youâre leaving me for Omi-kun?!â
âDramatic ass.âÂ
âPlease, you chose to marry me.â He crows, flipping his hair. He looks ridiculous, he always does. Kaiyo seems to agree -Â
âAnd I wonder why sometimes.â She retorts, Atsumu squawking indignantly at her response, hair ruffling like an offended chick. But Kaiyo ruins the effect of her words by laughing, leaning over to affectionately peck her husband on the cheek.Â
Sakusa should be annoyed by this display of childishness, but for some inexplicable reason, a frisson of longing bubbles in his chest instead. Itâs strange. Marriage or even serious relationships have never been something heâs actively sought. After all, it always seemed horrendously illogical to put all your eggs in one basket and hope nothing trips up â but his heart pays his mind no mind, and the strange sensation continues to trickle down his throat into his chest.Â
He makes up an excuse to slip to the bathroom for a tactical retreat from this madness.Â
Then he takes a breath.Â
Rinse. Lather hands with soap. Rinse. Repeat again .
Familiar motions, bred out of a desire to do things right, transformed into an unbreakable habit. Cold water, washing away soap bubbles.
Right. Now heâs ready for another plunge off the deep end .Â
Heâs a foot past the threshold of the community hall where the party is being held when Miya Shino darts towards him. Sheâs very clearly her fatherâs daughter with his penchant for mischief because she dives between his legs, making him stumble in confusion. Then Meian Shugoâs eldest son Makoto barrels towards him, intent on reaching the ball held aloft in Shinoâs hands.Â
Athletic reflexes be damned in the face of a pair of hell-spawn.Â
âShino!â. Kaiyo shouts.Â
âMakoto!â Meian thunders.Â
Sakusa flails, decidedly without grace, and in his attempt at not squashing the two little devils, he manages to do something even  worse .Â
Much, much worse.Â
He manages to trip over his feet and bump right into the woman Miya Kaiyo wanted to introduce him to (this, he finds out later). Itâs a lost cause â heâs six foot two of pure muscle, dwarfing her by a mile, and sheâs carrying a huge box in her hand.Â
He ends up face planting directly into her chest.Â
His brain short circuits at the feeling of plush softness and vanilla and â ,Â
âWoah - Omi-omi, never thought Iâd have to defend the honour of my cousin in lawâ, Atsumu laughs. Â
The sudden flare of irritation at Atsumuâs words kickstarts his brain back into gear. Rearing back in alarm, he promptly topples over onto his butt.Â
âUncle âkusa, Iâm sorryâ Shino screeches, distraught. Makoto merely snivels. Kaiyo is evidently the only one with working brain cells, because she rushes over to help them up. Â
The-woman-with-the-mysterious-box makes Kaiyo take the box first. It holds precious cargo - Shinoâs birthday cake, he later finds out, but because she manages to cling on to it with admirable tenacity, it emerges more or less intact. Then she turns to him, still sprawled on the floor. He scoots away, still dazed.Â
She offers him a steady hand. âHelloâ, she says. âIt seems weâve gotten off to rather a bad start.â
There is a hint of mirth in her voice, but her eyes are kind. Â
He takes her hand with a rare smile.Â
Miya Kaiyo grins behind the cake box. It turns out her daughter is a better matchmaker than either her or (heaven forbid) her husband.Â
It turns out that Miya Kaiyo wanted to introduce him to her cousin, newly moved to Osaka from Tokyo. Sheâs a sports journalist, used to cover volleyball even, but for some reason their paths never crossed. She too, is tired of her cousinâs well intentioned meddling, but asks him if heâd like to meet her for dinner one day âif only to get Kaiyo off her back, because sheâs persistentâ, and funnily enough, he agrees.Â
He doesnât mind making a new friend, he reasons. She seems decent enough.Â
They go out for dinner on a Tuesday night. She doesnât complain when he tells her that due to his diet planned by MSBYâs nutritionist, most restaurants are off limits. Instead, she asks intelligent questions about whether the sources of protein and fibre heâs relying on are varied enough, even suggesting alternatives like tempeh, a Southeast Asian soy product.Â
He appreciates that.Â
She doesnât also fawn over the fact that heâs a professional athlete. That makes sense, considering sheâs probably interviewed dozens, if not hundreds of individuals who are just like him. Itâs nice - heâs tired of groupies who start dates off by staring at him starry eyed, but ending it with disappointment in their eyes when they discover that heâs just a guy who practices hitting balls enough to do it for a living. And best of all, she doesnât mind that their conversation sometimes wanes into silence. She doesnât seem to feel the need to fill empty spaces with inane drivel, nor expect him to entertain her like a circus animal.Â
He likes that.Â
So when the night ends, he asks her whether sheâd like to have dinner with him again. âJust as friendsâ, heâs quick to clarify.Â
âSureâ, she nods, and they bid each other goodnight. Â
They start having dinner every Tuesday night, subject to their erratic schedules.Â
He enjoys her company. Sheâs thoughtful, bringing him home made baked goods like zucchini cake (low sugar, of course), sneaking him chocolate scones for his cheat days after she discovers his hidden sweet tooth. Sheâs considerate too, never blinking an eye at his compulsive need to make sure everything is just in order, even if the waitress stands behind them aghast when he insists on using disinfectant to wipe down their table. She doesnât even call him paranoid when he passes her a bottle of sanitizer.Â
Slowly, he finds himself confiding in her about things heâd maybe only tell his cousin, Motoya. Or at least, the things he would tell Motoya if the guy would only pick up his calls.Â
âSorryâ, Motoya texts back after a couple of missed calls. â Practice has been brutal recently.Â
In a remarkable display of restraint, Sakusa does not point out that EJP Raijin is below MSBY in this seasonâs rankings.Â
So he tells her instead about how heâs contemplating retirement, how heâs trying to chart out his next steps career wise. She surprises him by listening to him gravely, pointing out that he can lean on his business degree to possibly land an office job in event management or with sports associations, putting him in touch with one overly excited Kuroo Tetsuro. He tucks her suggestions away carefully at the back of his mind.  Â
Itâs nice to have a friend, he tells himself, his lips quirking ever so slightly when her hand grazes his as they walk down the street together.Â
He invites her to the monthly gatherings that the MSBY players take turns to host for their family and friends, making the excuse that he needs a human shield in any event hosted by Miya Atsumu. She agrees easily, perking up at the chance to spend a Sunday afternoon with her cousin and niece - â and Kaiyoâll need help, especially since sheâs pregnantâ, bringing far too many cupcakes topped with the lightest, fluffiest cream cheese frosting heâs ever had the pleasure of tasting. Even Miya Osamu gives her a nod of respect after stuffing his face full of her cupcakes. Â He, unlike his twin, has good taste.
Her brow furls into a concerned frown when he quietly sneaks himself a second cupcake. âYou donât have to force yourself to eat it just to be polite! I made it, so  I  know it has so much sugar and butter it would make your nutritionist weep. If you want, I snuck some zucchini cake in my handbag for you instead.âÂ
He stubbornly shovels a large bite into his mouth. âI wonât tell if you donât.âÂ
She bursts into laughter, leaning forward to wipe away the smudge of frosting on the tip of his nose with her thumb.Â
Miya Kaiyo shoots him a knowing look across the room, waggling her eyebrows in an eerie imitation of her husband. He fights to keep his face blank, refusing to feed her satisfaction, but fails, a hot flush rising in his cheeks.Â
âTraitorâ he mouths at her. Her smirk only deepens.
Fortunately, the gathering ends with no further mishaps, either to his physical well-being or his dignity. Makoto is packed off with Meian, the little boy whining for more time to play with Shino. Hinata and Bokuto prance off for some ridiculous buffet on the other side of town.
As for himself, he hangs back with her to help the Miyas put their house back in order, expelling an amused puff of a laugh from his nose when she forces the very pregnant Kaiyo to âstay still, for goodness sake!â  on the couch, dancing around the house with a mop, Shino trailing after her waving a feather duster with gusto. He refrains from telling the little girl that sheâs more likely to spread  the dust than to actually clear it â at least sheâs not causing more havoc this way.Â
âI canât believe I couldâve ever taken this for granted, yâknowâ, Atsumu comments from behind him, mouth wide in a tender smile. âItâs the best feeling in the world to have a wife and kid who loves ya to the moon and back, welcoming ya home after a long day at work. They make everything worth it.â
Heâs thrown for a loop at this rare display of emotional vulnerability from the usually obnoxious setter and for once, does not resort to hostility, choosing instead to acknowledge the blonde setterâs words with a tacticum nod.Â
The Miyasâ apartment is far too chaotic for his tastes, with colourful toys scattered on the floor, mismatched picture frames of the little family on the walls, but laughter hangs in the air, and light spills from the windows, illuminating the warmth and love and fondness in every look and word the Miyas gift each other.Â
His father gave him a compass when he was a child, as a present to celebrate his first match. His mother clucked her tongue because itâs a strange gift for a child - delicate, fiddly, its gold exterior tarnished with age. But his father chuckled and told him that heâs old enough to appreciate that the compass is his fatherâs, and his fatherâs father before that, an heirloom to remind their sons to work hard at everything they do, and to keep their hearts on course, pointing north.Â
And Sakusa thinks heâs done that. Heâs worked and worked and worked at perfecting his skills in his chosen sport. Heâs accepted his solo course, so laser focused on carving out a career in professional sports leaves little time or space for intimate relationships. Not to mention the fact that watching the disaster of Atsumuâs early years of marriage from the sidelines, made him swear off similar heartbreak for himself.Â
But there are times when he canât help but feel a little lonely - when he has to struggle to find a date for MSBY events, when he has no one to celebrate the holidays with, when he goes home every day to his neat, cold apartment with space for only one occupant.Â
The compass in his heart creaks. It starts to turn a few degrees just off-course.Â
âDo you ever wonder what itâd be like to get married?â he asks her as heâs walking her home that night.Â
âI did, once upon a timeâ, she shrugs carelessly. He misses the sudden strain in her smile. âWhy do you ask?âÂ
He stays silent for a while, the length of the quiet street giving him time to properly ferment his response. He considers the effects of adding splashes of colour to his dull life, weighs it against his long cultivated instinct to avoid the potential chaos of any emotional entanglements. He finds himself suddenly craving the sweetness of cream cheese frosting, and wonders how itâd be like to come home to light, fluffy cakes baked by her hands.Â
When they reach her apartment block, she tilts her head at him curiously, obviously awaiting his answer. He tugs his words together, strings his swirling thoughts into a decipherable sentence.Â
âBecause Atsumu and Kaiyo seem happy together. And I wondered if weâd be happy together too.âÂ
He watches her puzzle over his words, her brow furling into a confused frown. âAnd I wasnât proposing, by the wayâ, he feels the need to clarify.Â
She snorts. âI didnât think so.â With a directness that he very much appreciates, she looks at him squarely and asks - âAre you asking me out, Sakusa Kiyoomi?âÂ
He meets her gaze. âYes, I am. Weâve known each other for a decently long time for me to conclude our personalities are well matched, and weâre both mature adults who respect each otherâs work schedules and commitments. And if you donât mind that I can be overly blunt and quiet sometimes - âÂ
â - which I donâtâ, she interjects, with a chuckle.Â
âI think we might be happy togetherâ, he concludes, with a small smile thatâs becoming more common in her presence.
He allows her the space to turn his proposition over in her mind.Â
âAlrightâ, she finally says. âI guess we can give it a goâ.Â
So much for Atsumu accusing him of having a heart made out of tin. Flesh and muscle works overtime to pump blood into his cheeks as she slots her fingers between his and gives his hand a squeeze.Â
Being in a relationship isnât too different from what they had before.Â
They still keep to their standing date to meet every Tuesday (schedules permitting, of course). But now he doesnât have to make up excuses to ask her out on outings that arenât food related. At first he tries his best to adhere to dating norms, arranging for romantic dates at candlelit restaurants, buying her massive bouquets that make her sneeze.Â
âItâs fine, Omiâ, she tells him gently after they spend another uncomfortable evening in a dimly lit restaurant eating off plates too large for the laughably tiny food portions. âIâm happy just hanging out with you. You donât have to go out of your way to impress me, Iâm not holding on to any ridiculous expectations of youâ. He stops after that, glad he doesnât have to suffer another night trying to decipher which utensil to be used at which course, or having to put on starched formal wear to yet another stuffy restaurant.Â
Sheâs noticeably happier when they accompany each other on trips to the supermarket, each holding a stack of coupons to take advantage of the latest deals. She shields him from any overly zealous obaa-sans with gusto, throwing elbows and using her grocery basket as a makeshift battering ram before they crowd close enough to him to trigger his anxiety. He helps her reach for things on the top shelf âto prevent her from scaling the grocery shelves like an overgrown teenagerâ , he snarks. Heâs worried his attempt at teasing lands wrong, but she snorts and thanks him good naturedly anyways.Â
On the weekends, they develop a habit of meal prepping for the rest of the week at her apartment. His kitchen lacks the fancy mixers and blenders that she has, and in all honesty, his dark, spartan apartment lacks the sunlight and warmth that spills into her apartment from the windows, so itâs only logical that they should spend the bulk of their time there. Itâs an oasis of calm for him, chopping vegetables and chicken into small cubes, sautĂŠing them for the week ahead, while she bustles around whipping eggs and flour and milk together to form another delectable cake that they always end up sharing at the end of the day.Â
He starts to dread matches away from home a little more than he used to. While hotel rooms are as spartan as his own apartment, he doesnât have the option of heading over to her apartment to bask in her quiet warmth. His meals come in styrofoam boxes instead of the glass tupperware she stacks on her kitchen counter, and he turns up his nose at store bought cakes that his teammates offer him, only craving for those baked in her oven. He even starts looking up to the stands for a glimpse of her, only to remember that she canât be there to cheer the team on.Â
âCheer up, Omi-omi! Weâll have a home match next weekâ, Atsumu tells him jovially.Â
âIt doesnât matter either way to meâ, he mutters resentfully, but the setter only grins.
âTrust me, it matters a great deal to have the girl ya love cheering ya on, yâknow?âÂ
He stalks off to the changing room, ignoring the peals of laughter from the blonde annoyance he leaves in his wake. Â
The tight coil of loneliness only loosens when he sees her waiting for him at the station when he returns. She ignores his protests to snag his suitcase away from him, the case looking comically large against her small frame, but she uses it effectively as a tank to force a path through the crowd, and drag him back to her apartment in no time.Â
âYou need a home cooked dinner to make up for all those industrially prepared food you mustâve been eating this entire weekâ, she tells him, bustling around the kitchen, only stilling when he takes her shoulders in his hands.Â
âAre you happy?â he asks, when he cups her face to carefully brush the dusting of flour on her cheek away. Â
âWhy wouldnât I be?â She laughs, the sound fond.
âJust checking inâ, he tells her, closing his eyes as she pulls him down towards her for a kiss.Â
All in all, itâs a happy, uncomplicated relationship. He likes it that way.
If his heart were a compass, heâd suspect itâs broken because instead of pointing north, it starts to inch inexorably towards her.Â
But there are strange quirks he notices about her that niggles at his brain.Â
She refuses point blank to check out the planetarium when she attends an event held at the adjacent Art Museum as his date, professing to have an irrational dislike for stars.Â
âTheyâre just balls of burning gas and light â , he points out. âWhat could you possibly have against them?âÂ
Thereâs a flicker of irritation in her eyes that he does not miss. âI know itâs stupid but just humour me, ok?â Her tone verges on a snarl, before she storms away, ostensibly to the bathroom to freshen herself up.Â
She returns later with an apology for her behaviour. Though heâs confused, he respects her privacy and does not push for an answer.Â
Heâs at her apartment preparing meals for the week ahead when the doorbell rings and an enormous bouquet of white lilies are deposited into her arms. She stares dumbly at the flowers, their sickly sweet scent permeating the air.Â
His brow furls. âToday isnât your birthday, is it?â
His words jolt her out of her trance. âNoâ, she answers, before inexplicably storming to the living room and dumping the bouquet with a vengeance on the coffee table. Pollen flutters to the floor, delicate white petals crushed in her hands.Â
âItâs nothingâ, she tells him as he shoots her a questioning look.Â
When she disappears to the washroom, he peeks at the card. Thereâs no name on it, just a simple message - âconsider it, please?â
He doesnât question her about it when she returns to the kitchen. She doesnât offer him any answers either.Â
He finds himself wondering about them.Â
It was refreshing at first to have a relationship free of any expectations. She never asks for more than heâs willing to give, seems happy enough to slot herself into the pockets of time he offers, only attends his games when he gives her tickets, doesnât get upset with him when he inevitably forgets to text.Â
But therein lies the issue, doesnât it? Â
If she truly likes him, wants to pursue a relationship seriously with him, shouldnât she be demanding more than the crumbs of affection and attention he shows her? Theyâre both past the age of thirty, shouldnât she be looking to get married and settle down, maybe spawn a demon child or two?Â
Heâs tried raising it with her once, but she responded with confusion.Â
âI donât have any expectations of you, Omiâ, sheâd replied. âWe both have busy lives, so whatever youâre willing to give, Iâm happy to takeâ.Â
Thereâs technically nothing wrong about her answer. Itâs wholly considerate and kind - very much her. Â
Still, it makes him wonder - if her heart were a compass, would it point towards him?Â
He manages to hold his tongue until she gets another delivery of flowers.Â
This time he opens the door when the doorbell rings, assaulted by the heady scent of lillies, pollen smeared on his sleeves. This time, thereâs a name on the card.Â
Oikawa Tooru .Â
It takes a couple of seconds for him to realise why the name is so familiar. Itâs the same name Hinata and Kageyama used to buzz about every Olympics - the famous Argentinian setter who started his career as a schoolboy from Miyagi, a prodigious setter who never made it to Nationals in high school, refused to give up and forged his way to success in a whole new land, continents away.
âHow do you know Oikawaâ? He asks her. âAnd why does he keep sending your flowers?âÂ
âHeâs just an old acquaintance,â she admits. âHeâs just sending the flowers to persuade me to attend his wedding.â
His forehead crinkles in confusion, and he tries his best not to leap to conclusions, but since she doesnât seem to be forthcoming with further clarification, he presses her further.Â
âAnd why wonât you attend his wedding?âÂ
Her shoulders slouch in obvious reluctance as she turns away, focusing her attention on the mixing bowl. But Kiyoomi isnât easily deterred, so he firmly takes the mixing bowl from her and sets it on the countertop. He raises an eyebrow at her, clearly seeking an answer.Â
She huffs a sigh through her nose. âBecause heâs getting married to my ex-boyfriend, ok?â  Â
He blinks. That was unexpected.Â
âIt happened half a decade ago. Ancient history. Iâm over it.â She mutters to the floor.Â
âWhy didnât you tell me about it?âÂ
âBecause itâs none of your businessâ, she snaps, grabbing the mixing bowl again, beating the batter with a vengeance.Â
âYouâre going to ruin the texture if you whisk it too hardâ, he tugs the bowl away from her again. She refuses to relinquish her grip.
âLeave me alone!â she snarls, yanking the bowl back. Confused by her sudden fury, he lets go of the bowl, only for her to stumble back, eyes wide as she loses her balance, knocking her head against the countertop.
He drops down onto his knees, not even noticing the batter soaking into his pants, combing through her hair, scouring the back of her neck for any sign of injury. Itâs only when heâs satisfied that her fall has resulted in nothing more than a bruise that should go away by tomorrow that he notices her tears soaking the front of his shirt.Â
âDo you want to tell me whatâs wrong?â he asks, wiping her tears away with a batter splattered thumb.Â
She hangs her head, body still shaking from her sobs. âIâve already made such a mess of things â donât want you to have to listen to my nonsense â am just beinâ stupid, thatâs all - â.Â
He patiently waits until her sobs dissolves into mere sniffles before speaking. âI want you to tell me whatâs wrong. If youâre up to it.âÂ
So through more broken sobs and hiccups, he listens to the tale of Iwaizumi Hajime, a boy who was her world, who only realised he was always in love with Oikawa Tooru, a fortnight before she and he were to wed. Her voice wavers as she tells him the full story of the white lilies, explains that her irrational dislike for stars stems from the reminder that she chose to give her world up to a boy-king burning brighter than the stars in the night sky combined.Â
He waits until her words run out, and sheâs leaning against him, broken and pliant in a way that makes his heart ache.Â
âI wish you told me about it earlierâ, he tells her, tucking the loose strands of hair behind her ear. âThat you would trust me enough to tell me about the things that hurt you in the past. And I wonder about the state of our relationship if you donât even trust me enough for thatâ.Â
âThatâs unfair. You never asked - âÂ
âHow could I ask about something I didnât even know about?â He takes hold of her shoulders, forcing her to look at him. Hurt and anger and shock simmer in her eyes, each swirl of emotion fighting for dominance.Â
âI didnât want to expect anything more from this relationship than you were willing to giveâ, she admits after a pause.Â
Sheâs scared of being hurt again. He doesnât miss the subtext. Â
âShall I tell you what I want from you then? I have a list, if youâre willing to hear me outâ he asks, with a smile thatâs growing more common the more time he spends around her.Â
She nods, but keeps her gaze stubbornly on the ground.Â
He takes his time to choose his words. Heâs never been verbose - not like Atsumu or Bokuto or even easygoing Motoya, choosing to only say what is strictly necessary, using the precise amount of words, nothing more, nothing less. But this is a situation that requires more emotion rather than precision, so he inhales a shaky breath, letting it fuel the sentiment in his heart as he exhales.Â
âFirst. I want you to trust that Iâll never hurt you like he didâ, he says, and with a self-deprecating smile he adds - âI donât have any childhood friends to be secretly in love with besides Motoya, and Iâm hardly going to be pining after my flake of a cousinâ.Â
That triggers the corners of her lips to tilt upwards, and encouraged, he carries on.   Â
âSecond. I want you to be open with me about what you want - your dreams, your expectations of me. I want to hear them all because  youâre important to me.â
That makes her flush pink, and she sneaks a glance up towards him.Â
âThird. I want to wake up each morning with you by my side and come home to you every night. I want to watch you fight cranky old ladies in the supermarket in my honour, be the first person to taste test all your baking experiments - even the failed ones that are only fit to feed Atsumu. I want us to be happy together. Forever, if possible.â
He lifts her bodily into his lap, brushes his nose against her cheek. âNow that Iâve told you what Iâm willing to give, is that too much for you to take?â he murmurs against her lips.
Her blush blossoms into a deep scarlet, but her eyes are iridescent pools of startled delight. She doesnât speak, sealing her answer instead with her lips.Â
His heartâs compass is irretrievably broken, the needle melted into place. It doesnât point north any longer, no  â itâs always going to point towards her.Â
They move in together after that.Â
He gives up his apartment, professing to prefer the warmth and light of hers. The Miyas help him move in even when he tries to refuse their help, Atsumu helping him to lug cardboard boxes up the stairs, Kaiyo helping him sort out his belongings, sorting them into his allocated cupboards.Â
When theyâre done, they order pizza and she bakes a cake to celebrate. âAn impromptu housewarmingâ she says, toasting Miya Kaiyo with a slice of pepperoni pizza with a laugh.
Kiyoomi shares a slice of chocolate cake with Atsumu in complete defiance of their nutritionistâs advice, jostling forks over the very last bite. She and Kaiyo scold them teasingly, telling them to behave like theyâre actually thirty and not teenagers on the cusp of adulthood. Atsumu pulls at Kaiyoâs ponytail in retaliation. He refuses to engage in similar tomfoolery, reddening instead when she reaches over to ruffle his curls.
âThis is niceâ, he remarks to Atsumu later, when their significant others are out of earshot, gossiping and giggling about something or other. Â
âIt is, isnât itâ, Atsumu replies, a dopey smile on his face as he stares at his wife.Â
It truly is , Kiyoomi thinks, staring at her. Â
He takes over most of the cleaning, it clears his mind, he tells her. So to split the chores evenly, she insists on doing their laundry and cooking, and he doesnât even nag her too much when she forgets to split the white and coloured clothes and stains some of his shirts once in a while.Â
Wedding invites printed on expensive cream paper and bouquets of white lilies start to litter their doorstep every day. He tries his best to dispose of them before they reach her sight, but every so often, he comes home too late, catches her wilt as she brushes white petals from their doorstep.Â
âI donât blame either of themâ, she tells him, after he asks if sheâd like him to call Iwaizumi and tell him to drown himself in a vat of batter, thank you very much.Â
âYouâre too kind to both of themâ he says plainly, as they share a pot of tea, his head pillowed in her lap. âI wouldâve just set them both on fire and left them to rot.â
âHajime loved Tooru for almost all his life - I just wanted to see him happy in the end. Argh  - I sound so stupid and sentimental like an old grandma, just laugh at me alreadyâ she complains, hiding her burning cheeks in her hands. Â
âYou arenât stupid for being kind.â He hums, quiet and low. âItâs why I love you so.âÂ
He relishes the soft light dawning in her eyes, captures her whispered affection with careful fingers, spins them into gold.Â
He has to turn off the stove to answer the door when some rude lout bangs on their front door far too early on a Sunday morning.Â
With his coldest sneer and thinking resentfully about his breakfast, Kiyoomi swings the door open, fully intent on looming over the disturbance with his full height, but takes a step back instead when he finds one Iwaizumi Hajime hanging off the door knob.Â
âHelloâ, Iwaizumi looks up at him confusedly.Â
âHiâ, he nods a greeting back at his old Olympic team trainer. They stare at each other.Â
âEh - I think Iâve got the wrong houseâ, Iwaizumi scratches the back of his neck awkwardly. âSorry about that, Sakusa-san.â
Heâs about to close the door in Iwaizumiâs face when her voice chimes in, clear as a bell.Â
âWhoâs at the door, Omi?âÂ
The shorter man shoots him a look of barely contained rage as he uses his bulk to push his way through the doorway towards her. Kiyoomi tries to stop him, protesting that he canât barge into someoneâs private property without an invitation like that, but itâs as futile an endeavour as trying to block the path of a raging storm.
Iwaizumi reaches her first, raising a hand as if to cup her face by instinct, before letting it fall back limply by his side. âYou werenât answering any of my messages or callsâ, he says. âI was worried about you.â
She stares at him blankly for a moment. Then fire sparks in her eyes.Â
âWell, as you can see, Iâm completely fineâ, she replies, jaw and fists clenched. âYou donât need to do a welfare check on me, weâre not involved anymore.â
The scorching pain in Iwaizumiâs eyes is evident, even from a distance away. âYeah. Well. I thought we were friends. You didnât even tell me you were dating againâ. He shoves his hands in his pockets, tossing another heated glance in Kiyoomiâs way.Â
âI didnât think I needed to update my ex-fiance about my love life, especially not when heâs trying to drag me to attend his wedding that I already said Iâm not going to attendâ, she bites back.Â
Iwaizumi opens his mouth, then closes it with a resounding snap. âIâm sorryâ, he says, with heartbreaking honesty. âI told Tooru that you probably didnât want to hear from us, but he insisted and I got worried when I didnât hear from you for monthsâ.Â
Kiyoomi can see her glare soften into molten sympathy. The tension in the air crackles with electricity. Heâs neither blind nor stupid â he can sense the years of longing and love not quite lost between them.Â
He thinks she loves him, Sakusa Kiyoomi â weird habits, cold disposition and all, but the doubt clogging up his arteries and veins is enough to make his heart seize â and if sheâs going to break his heart, heâd much rather she not do it in front of Iwaizumi. Â
âHajime - â she begins to say, and at this point he jumps in -Â
âIâll excuse myself so you both have the chance to catch upâ, he says, waving aside her protests as he slips on his shoes. Even in his haste to leave the house, he clicks his tongue at the mess Iwaizumi left behind at their  genkan , kneeling down to arrange their shoes, only standing up when heâs satisfied theyâre neatly arranged back in place.Â
âOmi, you donât have to leaveâ, she says, holding the door open.Â
He shrugs his shoulders at her, nose and mouth already obscured by his usual face mask. âLet me know when youâd like me to come backâ.Â
If sheâd like him to come back. She doesnât chase after him, after all. Â
Itâs a beautiful Sunday morning, but the golden sunshine feels more like a taunt rather than a balm to his mood. His stomach growls, making him long for the scrambled eggs he was in the middle of frying before he was so rudely interrupted, but his growing sense of nausea keeps him from seeking out an alternative meal.Â
Instead, he makes his way to the park, sits on a relatively clean bench. There are couples a-plenty, strolling around hand in hand, families picnicking merrily around him, compounding the growing chasm of loneliness in his chest. He tries to count the seconds by his breaths, tries not to let the minutes expand the insecurities crawling, inch by inch up his throat.Â
He sits alone. Poised, yet short of breath.Â
He wonders if Iwaizumi Hajime has finally figured out that stars, for all their brilliance, cannot compensate for their lack of human kindness. And if so, he wonders which direction her heart would point towards if it were a compass - whether itâs as broken as his, and whether it points towards Iwaizumi or him.  Â
He waits.Â
Then his phone buzzes.Â
Ah.Â
Sheâs asking him to come home. He does not dare to overthink the meaning of that single word. But he does not hide that his steps back  home are lighter than when he left, though the key in his hand shakes so hard it takes him three tries to fit it into the keyhole. He does not try to suffocate the seed of hope budding in the soft earth of his heart when he realises Iwaizumiâs shoes have vanished without a trace. Â
âOmi?âÂ
Sheâs waiting for him, slipping warm arms around his waist, tangling her fingers in his curls, ignoring his complaints about letting himself wash his hands first.Â
âAm I silly for missing you, even though itâs only been an hour?â
He refuses to be distracted by the affection in her voice.
âBut what about Iwaizumi?â he frowns, hesitation still poisoning the well of thoughts in his mind.Â
Perhaps itâs a testament to how well theyâve grown to know each other that she doesnât need to read the silent subtext of his statement. She smiles, bringing his palm flat against her chest, does not answer until his pulse matches the steady beat of her heart. Â
âI love you , Omiâ, she tells him. Her heartbeat does not quicken, her smile does not waver. âYou told me not to long ago to always be upfront with you about what  I  want so Iâm going to be honest with you now - Iwaizumi is only ever going to be my past, and I want you from now onâ.Â
If her heart were a compass, the steady beat of her heart tells him, it would point only towards him. Â
âThat is â if youâll have meâ, she adds, a shadow of doubt suddenly appearing on her face.Â
âDonât be ridiculousâ, he scoffs, burying his nose to breathe in the familiar scent of vanilla in her hair. âWho else would I rather have than you?âÂ
Who else would he be lucky enough to call his home â a woman with a heart large enough to fit a whole ocean within its depths, with kindness in her eyes and mirth in her smiles.Â
She laughs in spite of the salt in her throat and water in her eyes, leaning on her toes in a vain attempt to reach his face. He lifts her into her arms, laughs when she squeals indignantly as her feet only find air, toppling them both onto the couch where he can seat her between his legs, press kisses to her cheeks. Â
Sheâll tell him later that Iwaizumi came looking for her because heâs never outgrown his overprotective streak, and heâs truly happy for her - for them, because theyâve both moved on with their separate lives. And she ended up agreeing to attend his and Oikawaâs wedding on one condition â that an invitation is extended to him, Sakusa Kiyoomi, to attend with her as his date.Â
Heâll tell her later that heâs happy to attend the wedding with her, just not to expect him to smile in any wedding pictures. And more importantly, heâll tell her in his plain way that the list of expectations he has of their relationship has expanded yet again.Â
Heâll lay out his dreams of a pair of matching golden rings to bind them to lifelong companionship, of hellspawn of their own and a dog, maybe two.Â
Heâll ask her if itâs too much for him to ask of her. Â
Sheâll tell him that sheâs willing to give him everything he asks for and more.Â
Itâs Miya Shinoâs ninth birthday party.Â
Heâs retired from volleyball proper, and is thankful he insisted on getting a business degree from Chuo University before going pro, because it comes in handy working alongside Kuroo Tetsuro at the volleyball association.Â
Miya Atsumu insists on inviting him to the party, though he supposes heâs invited not by virtue of being a former teammate, but because heâs also Shinoâs uncle by marriage now. The thought that heâs related to Miya Atsumu, however distant and most definitely not by blood, still fills him with dread.Â
The birthday girl is a little less imbued with her fatherâs chaotic energy this time, though she still squeals when her birthday cake is unveiled â though to be fair itâs less a cake, more a tower of cupcakes with cream cheese frosting spelling out her name.Â
âThank you Auntie!â Shino cries, flinging her arms around her. Kiyoomi flinches at the sight of anyone, even his nine year old niece, coming in close contact with his extremely pregnant wife, but a sharp glare from her subdues any complaint he dares to make.Â
He fusses over her the minute he has the chance to corral her away from the clutches of Miya Shino. âAre your feet hurting? What about your back? I donât know why you insist on walking so much when you know the doctor said you should be on bed rest soonâ.Â
âStop fussing, Omi! The baby and I will be fineâ, she replies, exasperated. âThis is the last social event scheduled before I pop and Iâm determined to enjoy it while I can.â Then she scuttles off faster than he imagines her frame allows, leaving him floundering in her wake.Â
âJust let her beâ, Miya Atsumu laughs, slapping his back. Kiyoomi is on the verge of pointing out - Â pot, meet kettle, reminding Atsumu that the last time Kaiyo was pregnant, Atsumu didnât stop fretting until she went into labour and delivered a healthy baby boy. But then he remembers the grief etched into Atsumuâs face when Kaiyo miscarried in the stands during a game, so he holds his tongue and rolls his eyes instead.Â
âIâm just worried sheâs pushing herself too hardâ, he admits in a rare bout of vulnerability.Â
Atsumu smiles, genuine for once. âThose crazy women, eh? Theyâre always gonna drive us up the wall, but theyâre worth every minute of it.âÂ
He looks at her, belly swollen with their first child, peach blossoms blooming in her cheeks. His past self would never imagine that heâd find this much joy and contentment in being a husband and a father, but then again his past self was satisfied coming home alone day after day to a cold apartment. He knows better now - life is so better when he has her, sharing stories of their day of over steaming mugs of tea at their kitchen countertop, listening to her hum as she bakes treats for the weekend, warmth and laughter and love abound in their cosy apartment for two, soon to be three.  Â
So feeling vaguely drunk though he hasnât had a drop of alcohol in the months since she whispered during their anniversary dinner that they were expecting, Kiyoomi laughs aloud.Â
Atsumu lifts his eyebrows in surprise.
âShe really, really isâ, Kiyoomi says, breaking into an unguarded smile. Â

My top 10 list for who I WANT as DLC in Smash
Weâre reaching the end of an era. Smash Ultimateâs DLC is going to end eventually, with four more characters to be announced. They could release some kind of âEcho Packâ in the future, which I would be hyped about (They didnât really do much with the echo fighter mechanic), But I have a feeling that after this, there wonât be any more. So I wanted to post my list of who I, specifically, would like to see in the game.
This is not based off of likelihood, as some of these characters probably donât even have a chance of making it in. I just think they would be neat.
Full list under the cut, counting up from #10
- Papyrus (UNDERTALE)
Okay, so hear me out.
We got the Sans mii skin, and that was by far one of the most popular mii skins since Geno, probably. People were more excited for the Sans mii skin than Terry Bogard and maybe even Banjo. They probably made a lot more money than expected from it. So why not try it again?Â
And while Sans is the popular character, he definitely is not a fighter. Heâs a lazy, laid back character that just wants to have fun, but heâs far too weak to go into an all-out battle without risking his own safety.Â
HOWEVER!
Sansâs brother, Papyrus, is the polar opposite. Heâs dedicated, hardworking, and can take quite a few hits. Heâs got plenty of moveset opportunity. And it would be another indie rep, which is really really good for someone like me, who wants to go into game design.Â
Another thing: When we got the Cuphead mii skin, we also got Cuphead Spirits. They could have easily done that with Undertale, thereâs enough characters. So maybe theyâre saving it for a DLC Spirit board? I donât know, just a theory.
He would be primarily a ground-based fighter, with projectiles that could crawl across the stage like that one sparky item. He could also use his blue attack, which could be good for an easy spike on airborne characters. And, who knows, maybe for his final smash we could finally see his special attack.
I really enjoy Undertale, and seeing Sans as a mii skin made me super happy. Getting a whole fighter from the series would be even cooler.Â
- Paper Mario (Super Paper Mario)
Nintendo, weâve got three whole Links in this game, but only two Marios? Preposterous!
With that being said, Super Paper Mario was one of my favorite Wii games (Although I didnât play it until very recently) And itâs a very popular series. Heâs essentially his own character separate from Mario at this point. The games have so much lore put into them, and we already have a Paper Mario Stage in the game, so maybe we could get Dimentioâs dimension, or the Origami Palace or something.
Heâs been in enough games and done enough crazy things to earn a pretty diverse kit for himself. He could use Pixils, the 1000-Fold arms, or even summon Paper Bowser, Peach and Luigi for some attacks.Â
I think he would be super fun to play. Iâm terrible at vanilla Mario, but I think Paper Mario would be a good fit for the game AND be a super good-feeling character. However, this comes from a G&W main, so take from that what you will.
- King Boo (Luigiâs Mansion)
I đ want đ more đ villains đ in đ Smash! đÂ
King Boo is a staple of the Luigiâs Mansion series as well as being an enemy for Mario in some games like Sunshine. Heâs the Big Bad Evil Guy for Luigi.Â
And I DEFINITELY want him in this game.Â
Itâs not so much the character himself, although King Boo is really good, I want him in for his kit. Think about it. A large character but with floaty jumps like Jigglypuff and an aerial based moveset AND a teleport? Heâd be ruthless. And really fun. And thatâs what Iâm looking for in a character.
- BOTW Zelda (Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity)
Yes, I know. âBut Worm, the Zelda we have now is annoying and awful, and you say you want ANOTHER one?!?!?â Well, youâre half right.
Yes, Zelda is known for her darkness-sealing powers in BOTW, BUT, in the recent Age of Calamity game, her moveset for almost have the game revolves around the Sheikah Slate. She uses it creatively, hopping around on ice and whirling metal slabs around with a magnet. And I think that would be a SUPER cool moveset for Smash Bros.Â
And who knows, maybe they would call back to older games and allow her to switch to using her powers, like Zelda used to change into Sheik.Â
She would be very technical, with her attacks being powerful but with some startup, almost similar to Snake of all characters. And for her final smash she could use a Weak Point Smash or they could bring back Bow of Light (Which was MUCH more fair than the current one, by the way). Sheâd be fun, and thatâs what I want.
- Maxwell (Scribblenauts)
Maxwell is from Scribblenauts, a game where you have to solve puzzles by writing words in a notebook and those words coming to life. So heâs work in the same way in Smash, although much more randomized.Â
For his neutral special, maybe he could write a random item and it shows up in his hand. That would be funny AND cool, and itâs possible (because Peach does the same thing with Turnips!). He could use projectiles but also have plenty of close range options, and for a Final Smash he could use the Meteor, which in the game clears the screen of living things. Brutal! He also uses Adjectives on both his creations AND himself, so maybe for some moves he could effect the other opponent with a poison or freeze effect.
Would he be banned in competitive play? Yes. Would he still be fun? Definitely!
- Jibanyan (Yo-Kai Watch)
I may be in the minority here, but I REALLY liked Yo-Kai Watch as a game. It may seem like a cheap Pokemon ripoff, but the gameplay is nothing like it at all. Youâre given a map to explore and various objectives within the map, and the battle system is really creative and fun. Itâs actually the inspiration for some of my own games. Yo-Kai watch deserved more credit than it got.
Jibanyan is the poster boy for the series (and also has the saddest backstory of any cat-based character ever), and mainly attacks with both his paws and fire attacks. He could have fire-based moves and would almost play similar to Pichu. His final smash could be Paws of Fury, his soultimate move, that would hit like Donkey Kongâs final smash as a flurry of blows.Â
This series is really well made and thought out, and it deserves more than it got. So please put my boy in Smash, Iâm begging you.
- Specter Knight (Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment)
Okay, yes. I know Shovel Knight is the main character of this series. But again, hear me out.
Specter Knight is either the first or second boss you encounter in the main Shovel Knight game, and heâs already got some moveset potential from that alone. However, he also had his own story mode, Specter of Torment, ad let me say, that is a phenomenal game. Iâd go so far as to say itâs better than the main Shovel Knight game itself. His controls are quick and easy to pick up. And he has a whole bunch of special abilities you can get as the game progresses, such as a boomerang or even a shadow clone.Â
His smash moveset would pull most of the specials from the unlockable items he can get, leaving room for an incredible spacing game as well as a good aerial defense, as Specter Knight can both float and do a Dash Slash through enemies for some extra air time.Â
Shovel Knight is the main character, but Specter Knight obviously has the most soul put into him (Pun not intended). And, again, heâd be fun to control.Â
- Master Hand / Fighter Hand (Super Smash Bros. Series)
This is mostly me just being mad at the game for giving us a playable Master Hand, but only once. We couldnât have even gotten a Master Mode in extras, huh?Â
Yes, yes, I know Master Hand is the staple boss character for Smash Bros. Heâs been in every game, for crying out loud! Iâm honestly surprised it took them this long to give us a playable Master Hand. But this leads into my idea:
A new hand, made specifically to fight in Smash Bros, called Fighter Hand.
Yes, itâs cheesy. Yes, itâs stupid. But hey, it would be fun.
He would have scaled-down versions of Master Handâs moves, with mainly projectile-based specials and tilts. He would be floaty, although introducing a flying character would be interesting to see how they balance it. For a final smash, maybe they could bring back Master Core from Smash 4 for a Giga Bowser-esque punch.
- The Knight (Hollow Knight)
Hollow Knight is an Indie Game that I never finished (Iâm working on it, okay?) thatâs kind of like Metroid in the way itâs played. It's also a very popular game, and I like bugs, so they get the number two spot because I like him.
And the special Soul moves you unlock translate well into Specials. Platformers always translate well into Smash, so he would work very well in the game. I donât know what their moveset would be (as I havenât finished the game yet), but I know they would be a small, fast character that mainly uses their nail to attack like a sword.
And my most wanted character in Super Smash Brothers: Ultimate is...
- Beatrix LeBeau (Slime Rancher)
Okay, look. Iâm aware this has zero chance of happening. Slime Rancher was never the most popular game, and Nintendo has never mentioned it ever. But itâs one of my favorite games, and I just think Beatrix would be an incredible character in Smash Bros.Â
She would use her jetpack to recover, she would shoot plorts as projectiles, use he vacpac to suck up both fighters and projectiles, and maybe shoot a boom slime as an explosive and unpredictable bouncing hazard. Her smash attacks and aerials would use the various slimes you can vacuum up and feed in the game, like the Rad Slime and Rock Slimes. She would be really good offstage and onstage with her weakness being her speed.Â
She could bring a LOT to this series, and it would be another inspirational indie rep. And, hey, Minecraft Steve got in. Who knows at this point.
Anyway, thereâs my list. Feel free to argue with me or explain why Geno should be on my list (I will not care) in the comments or reblogs, this list is not changing unless I play some new game that I feel should be represented.Â

Thursday Thoughts: My Top Ten Muppets
Listeners of NPRâs Pop Culture Happy Hour recently cast their votes to rank the best Muppets â an impossible decision, really. And yet, once the top ten list was read aloud on the podcast, I found myself completely unsurprised. Itâs a list that made sense, a list of safe bets. Itâs also an incredibly Muppet Show-heavy list, even though the competition was open to Muppets of all properties, including Sesame Street and my beloved Dark Crystal. The full top 25 list, available here, reveals that a few Sesame Street Muppets ranked in the teens, but still. We all know the top ten is where itâs at, and this top ten was neither creative nor representative. It struck me as a list of popular Muppets, not a list of the best Muppets. Most of my favorites werenât on that list at all!
So, hereâs my take on the ten best Muppets â and because I donât believe in objective Muppet rankings, I want YOU to reblog this post and tell me your favorites!
10. Swedish Chef       Â
The Chef came in ninth on NPRâs rankings, and I gotta be honest, Iâm on the same page with them on this one. Maybe itâs the fact that when he comes onscreen, thereâs no way to predict how the sketch will end. Maybe itâs the bizarreness of human fingers on Muppet arms â and knowing that those arms indicate a frankly superhuman feat of teamwork going on under the table. Maybe itâs just the Popcorn video, which always brightens my mood. Whatever it is, the Swedish Chef is definitely tenth best.
9. Fozzie Bear
I like Fozzie. Heâs an underdog, never giving up in his pursuit of fame and audience acclaim. And even though his whole shtick is that he canât succeed â Statler and Waldorf always get bigger laughs during his bits â he objectively has succeeded, because heâs still around and making us laugh after all these years.
What puts Fozzie in the top ten for me, though, is that I genuinely find his jokes funny. Honestly. I really do. So maybe Fozzie Bear sketches donât really work for me, but Fozzie Bear himself does.
8. Rosita
I mentioned my disappointment before in the âofficialâ rankingâs lack of Sesame Street characters. Sure, the cast of The Muppet Show has had a notable cultural impact, but it would be a disservice to Muppetkind if we ignored the impact of their friends on Sesame Street.
I could never forget Rosita. Sheâs not the most popular Muppet; sheâs never had a super catchy song or a roll-on-the-floor-laughing one-liner to rival the othersâ success. But her âSpanish Word of the Dayâ segments have a permanent spot in my memory. Sheâs sweet, sheâs sincere, and sheâs an excellent friend to her more famous fellow Muppets. (And as a bilingual Muppet, sheâs really hecking important â thereâs an episode where she deals with some kids making fun of her accent, and itâs equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming!)
7. Rowlf
While other Muppets have one-note personalities â see number 10 on this list above, and number 5 below â thereâs also Muppets like Rowlf. Heâs not an âAnything Muppet,â by any means â heâs a character in his own right â but Rowlf is a dog who rises to any occasion. He sits at the piano to bring both beautiful classical pieces and hilarious parodies to life, and itâs all music to my ears. He can be the Straight Man to more chaotic Muppetsâ antics, but just one clip of âVeterinarianâs Hospitalâ proves that heâs got enough silliness in him to take center stage.
And all the while, no matter what role heâs playing, heâs still that chill dog I adore â calm and adorable, with that round black nose, those big fluffy paws, and those floppy ears just begging to be scratched.
6. Deethra
As much as I love the original Dark Crystal film, the Netflix prequel series Age of Resistance has one big thing going for it: its characters. The protagonists of this show draw me in and make me care, quickly and continually. And best among them all is Deet. Deethra the Gelfling â small and beautiful, kind and powerful. She cares wholeheartedly about the world around her, and that care begets a wisdom that balances out her naivete in fascinating ways.
Muppets are so often silly, and we love them for it. But Deet embodies the Muppetsâ potential to tell a serious story, a potential we would be remiss to ignore.
5. Animal
Oh my god, Animal. If you want to talk about the sheer silliness of Muppets, you need to talk about Animal. Thereâs just no way around it. Heâs loud â in both sound and color scheme. And heâs absolutely bonkers. I know every drummer has an Animal in them, and itâs likely that all humans do. Weâre just not all comfortable with letting him out to play.
Thatâs whatâs so great about watching Animal do his thing. He has no inhibitions; he is freedom, he is chaos. And he lets me feel a little freer by association.
4. Hup
I talked a bit about underdogs in the Fozzie Bear section above. Thereâs an essay to be written about the Muppet as underdog; itâs an essential Muppet quality. Muppets are characters you logically wouldnât expect to succeed, but they persevere, nonetheless.
Hup is the underdog of Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Heâs the Podling who wants to be a paladin. Dear god heâs adorable, dear god heâs funny, and dear god do you root for him (and his spoon) to save the day! Of all the characters in this show, he feels the most Muppety â and thatâs why heâs higher on the list than Deet. Heâs still a serious character in a serious story (when he cries⌠my goodness), but heâs got that classic Muppet spirit to him.
3. Elmo
You know, I just donât get why Elmo gets such a bad rap. Is it that people think heâs annoying? Sure, he is! Muppets are objectively annoying characters â they all are. Yes, even the one youâre thinking of right now. But I fricking love Elmo. Heâs joyful, heâs spirited, and heâs exploring the world around him in that carefree way only a child can â and he brings you along on that adventure! âElmoâs Worldâ is your world. âElmoâs Songâ is your song. Elmoâs laugh is fricking infectious. And yeah, Iâm probably biased by nostalgia (my dadâs Elmo impression cracks me up to this day), but Elmo is a darn good Muppet and he deserves our respect and admiration.
2. SkekSil
On a completely different note⌠letâs talk about the Chamberlain. There arenât really that many Muppet villains. There are plenty of Muppet henchmen, providing comic relief for a human actor who isnât supposed to be seen as that much of a threat anyway. The Skeksis of Dark Crystal are a notable exception, and SkekSil, better known as the Chamberlain, stands out among them. He is evil and he is smart. I hate him, and at the same time, I am fascinated by him. He knows what he wants and how to get it, even though heâs nowhere near as strong as the other Skeksis. He is, in his own way, an underdog. He believes in himself, and he wields that confidence as a weapon, calmly explaining to his enemies why they should do what he wants. You just canât look away. Heâs an amazing character, embodying the dark side of Muppethood.
1. Cookie Monster
When my mom first shared that episode of Pop Culture Happy Hour with me, in which the hosts talked about their favorite Muppets, I first thought, âHow could you decide?â And then Stephen Thompson said his favorite was Cookie Monster, and I shouted âYES!!!â out loud. Because heâs right â Cookieâs the best.
Cookie Monster is eternally funny, whether youâre five or fifty-five. Everything that comes out of his mouth is pure gold (âWhy me not get royalties?â) Heâs got the best songs â not only the classic âC is for Cookie,â but also âMe Want It (But Me Wait),â âMe Am What Me Am,â and the âHealthy Foodsâ rap. All the stuff I love about other Muppets on this list â the unpredictability, the ability to fit into any role a sketch requires, the lack of inhibitions, the confidence, the chaos, the unexpected moments of wisdom â heâs got it all. Heâs irreplaceable, heâs lovable, and heâs the top of my Top Ten Muppets list.

ACNH Guide by an AC Newbie
Planning / Decorating Your Island
you might see a lot not to worry about placement of houses or buildings because you can change it later. while this is true, moving things is expensive and takes a LOT of time. so at least try to space them in a way that isnât too cluttered (a good rule of thumb is donât stick everything behind/right next to resident services unless you want it to be there a WHILE
getting a 5 star island doesnât require placing random objects everywhere. i got mine by accident just by creating little hang out areas and cute spots for fun. so take your time and build your island the way you want!
it is easy to get overwhelmed looking at all the aesthetic island posts online which makes it harder to focus on what YOU want. a good starting place is to pick a general feel for your island. are you wanting more of a natural, spread out feel? a modern, urban getaway? a super tropical paradise? a fandom-based escape? keeping a general idea in mind can help when decorating.
Harvesting Materials / Getting Items
when harvesting materials, dig three holes behind you when hitting rocks to get 6-8 materials in stead of three. you can shake trees indefinitely for branches.
every day you can harvest 3 bundles of wood from each tree, up to 9 materials from each rock, find one DIY bottle on the beach, 4 fossils, and shake 1-2 items from trees.
when shaking trees for items or branches, always stand directly in front of the tree with a net equipped. if a wasp nest falls out, your villager will automatically face it with a look of terror. click a and you should catch them with no stings ^u^
additionally, you can always get extra materials going on nook miles tours. you also have the chance to shake out an extra item on the island from trees without fruit.
be careful shooting down balloons over flowers/highly decorate areas. if there is no open square (with no flowers, furniture, etc) for the present to land on, it will glitch and disappear.Â
you can always buy new items/clothing from nookâs cranny and able sisters. nookâs cranny closes at 10 p.m. and able sisters closes at 9 p.m.
if you want duplicates of items youâve already had, order up to 5 of them using the terminal in customer services.
***specific note, you have to register songs for radios, cassette players, etc. i honestly thought this meant finding a way to transfer real songs but NOPE. there are adorable K.K. tracks you can buy each day from the terminal under nook shopping. itâs always at the bottom for special items.
Villagers
there are 8 personalities for villagers.Â
females: normal, sisterly, snooty, and peppy
males: lazy, cranky, smug, and jock
everyone starts with a combination of sisterly and jock.
when you eventually get to search for villagers, feel free to be a little picky. find ones you vibe with. i didnât realize that there are over 400 potential friends out there when i first started looking.
it fun to see how different personalities interact, so i do recommend giving all of them a try. but find your own balance that fits you. love the jocks? get 7! want all normals? do it! canât stand peps? itâs ok!
donât ask nook to sell plots of land UNLESS you have the nook miles to get plenty of tickets to fill them. otherwise, the house will automatically be sold to a random villager the next day. (or, if you like to have fate pick for you, go wild and sell as many as you want!)
coaxing a villager to move out doesnât have to be cruel. i honestly canât smack my little animal friends with nets and the posts calling them ugly or trapping them in cages or fences makes me sad. just donât talk to them often and theyâll decide to go when theyâre ready.Â
alternatively, you can get villagers to leave via amiibo or camper. my understanding is with amiibos you can pick who you want to leave. with campers, they pick a random villager to go talk to. if you wanted a different animal to move out, press the home button on your switch, then close the game by clicking x. you might lose a bit of saved time, but should be able to speak with the camper again to try for a different villager.Â
Being a Good Friend
want your villager to know how much you love them? talk to them every day.
after a few days, you will unlock the option to give them a gift. i love giving mine clothing. note, for the most part villagers cannot wear pants, socks, or shoes. so i wouldnât recommend them as gifts, though your villagers will still appreciate the thought
send letters. in the airport there is a letter kiosk. you can send a note to your villagers with a gift each day.Â
DIYS
at first, you can get large amounts of DIYs by attending nookâs workshops and buying DIY packs at nookâs cranny. soon, there will be no more packs to buy, in which case you can get new DIYs the following ways
bottled messages wash up on the beach once each day
shooting down balloons
Several villagers each day will be using their DIY bench at home. speak to them to receive the recipe for what they are making
when visiting mystery islands, bottled messages can wash up on shore. it doesnât happen every time
Making Money
catching bugs and fish can bring in lots of bells! however, some are worth way more than others. looking up a guide for prices isnât a bad idea, but itâs your call!
ALSO! there are npcs called flick and cj who buy bugs and fish respectively at higher rates. if you have the storage or donât mind a mountain of tanks and cages, you can save your critters for these visitors. just keep in mind it might be a while between visits.
hunting and fishing not your thing? try being a DIY guru. gather materials and go crazy. build a ton of stuff and sell it to the nooklings for profit
blathers already has the fossils you dug up today? sell the duplicate fossils for a nice payday.Â
play the stalk market to try and make bank! every sunday daisy mae visits til 12 p.m. to sell turnips. buy as many as you can and sell them when the prices go up. note, you do risk losing money as prices wonât always be in your favor. additionally, if you keep the turnips til the next sunday they will rot.
Having Fun
do it your way. really. thatâs the advice. you might prefer to spend all day harvesting and fishing. thatâs so cool. you might prefer to build endless projects and redecorate every day. completely valid. maybe you just wanna chill with your animal friends and arenât in any hurry to decorate. thatâs an amazing plan!
that said, here are some things to do if you arenât sure where to start.
place a radio next to the plaza. enjoy listening to your villagers sing.
follow a villager throughout the day to catch them napping, chasing bugs, snacking, and otherwise being adorable
look at the nook miles+ tasks for the day and complete them all
look at your DIY catalog and build an area based on what you have. parks, restaurants, cafes, and item stalls tend to be easiest at the beginning and you can always change it later if it no longer fits
visit your museum exhibits and really take your time. it is a very soothing place
try your hand at designing your own outfit using a custom design
if you have nintendo online, visit a friendâs island and play hide and seek, buried treasure, or have a fashion show!
If any other players have advice to add, please reblog or reply so I can edit and add to the list! Thanks for reading!

Final Fantasy IX ~ Melodies and Memories
"Jesters of the Moon"
There are a lot of very good video games in the world, but it takes some luck and circumstance outside of a game's control for one to reach me at just the right time(s) and place(s) in my life that it has a tangible impact on who I am -- who I want to be. One that carves out a space for itself in my soul that will never be removed or replaced.
I've just finished playing Final Fantasy IX for the first time, and there's no doubt in my mind that such is the case here.
(Continued below readmore.)
I drew this art last year, when I was mourning my attachment to an old favorite game that I just don't feel the same way about anymore: Majora's Mask. I wanted to draw something that captured my feelings about it, because sometimes art is the best way to talk about something when the words don't want to come.
Why is "Jesters of the Moon," the name of a random song in the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack, plastered in the middle of this Majora's Mask fanart? Especially considering I hadn't even played Final Fantasy IX yet when I drew this?
The reason is exactly that "luck and circumstance" that allowed me to fall so uniquely in love with the game.
"Mt. Gulug"
In 2008, someone on YouTube uploaded a Majora's Mask parody-slash-let's-play series called "Majora's Mask: The Things Which Were Taken Out." The series has since become unlisted and won't be linked here out of respect for the creator who probably doesn't want things they said and made in 2008 being spread all over the internet, but because of Unregistered Hypercam 2 reasons, the series inserted other background music over the video and didn't record the actual game audio.
I didn't recognize any of the music, but I watched these parody videos on repeat because in addition to being funny (...at the time, in my mind, at least), I really really loved the music. It got to the point where I would sometimes be playing Majora's Mask and get disappointed when I approached Goht and the Mt. Gulug theme wasn't playing in the background.
I had forgotten about these videos for a really long time in the interim, but I remembered them at some point when I was thinking about Majora's Mask and I found them again. The creator had cited the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack for virtually all of the background music used in the videos, and I realized that despite knowing literally nothing about the game, I had become really fond of - and weirdly nostalgic for - the songs from it that I now recognized.
So I looked up "Jesters of the Moon" and played it on repeat while I drew out my feelings in colored marker. A few months later, I realized that my backwards compatible PS3 can also play PS1 games, and eBay had FFIX for PS1 at a good price. I had nothing to lose by ordering it and seeing what the source of all that fantastic music was like.
"Vamo Alla Flamenco"
I started my playthrough knowing nothing about what to expect from the game. I'd never played a Final Fantasy game before and my overall JRPG experience has been mostly limited to Tales of, Persona, and more recently, mainline Shin Megami Tensei. The only things I knew about Final Fantasy were a) the Tidus laughing scene, and b) Sephiroth. IX seemed like it had vibes I would enjoy, but beyond that I knew nothing about what the experience would be. So I approached it with a "let's have fun and see how it goes" attitude, naming my party members the first silly thing that came to mind, ending up with "Swaggy," "OwO," "Bitchin," "Gunz," and "SWOOORD" to start with.
(For the record I do not regret those names whatsoever.)
I was immediately struck by how differently the game uses music in comparison to all of my previous JRPG experiences. This was not a game where the composer was given a list of theme songs that were slapped on top of a mostly completed game-- this was a game constructed with the soundtrack in mind as a part of the writing process.
The opening act plays almost like an opera (side note, yes I know one of the other FF's has a literal opera, I haven't played that one): you traverse the same locations from different perspectives as different characters, introducing the cast with lighthearted humor and dramatic irony out the wazoo. While you traverse the city as OwO, OwO's theme is playing in the background, coloring your perspective of the city and the narrative. When you switch to Gunz patrolling around the castle, Gunz's theme accompanies your movement and informs his character and mission. I am so accustomed to "location themes" being the norm in virtually all video games that experiencing character and/or narrative themes as BGM instead while I bumble around town changed my entire perspective on what music in games can do and be.
The operatic feeling is definitely intentional, because the game uses a play-within-a-game narrative device to hit you over the head with its themes in a way that is somehow poignant and artful while also being extremely blatant. That is a hard balance to strike, but it manages. The whole game is like that: it is completely straightforward and tells you exactly what it's about at heart, but it does it beautifully.
At any rate, I was enamored with this intro and had a very fun time, but I wasn't obsessed or anything and ended up putting it down. I spent several months on the first half of disk 1 with weeks passing between play sessions. I liked the game plenty, but life stuff happened and I decided to get obsessed with Dai Gyakuten Saiban and Ghost Trick for a while. No regrettis.
It was already clear, though, that FFIX was going to be special to me. My compositions for my team's game in the Global Game Jam in 2021 were directly inspired by FFIX's opera-like intro. I wrote two character themes for our game that would serve as background music when you play as the two protagonists, coloring your journey differently even when moving in the same spaces. I was intentionally trying to mimic the way music is used in FFIX as an exercise. The themes I wrote are definitely some of my strongest work so far.
(You can check out the game here if you want, I promise it is significantly shorter than Final Fantasy IX.)
"Melodies of Life"
Music caused me to pick up FFIX the first time, and music caused me to return to it. After months of not touching or really thinking about it, just earlier this week I was inspired to play it again, because - again - I listened to the right song at the right time.
I was again mourning the loss of something, in this case a friendship, for reasons I'm not going to share here. I had already heard the song "Melodies of Life" because it came up when I was looking up FFIX songs to reblog on Tumblr a few months ago, and I decided to listen to it again. Even without knowing the game context, the song itself really spoke to me in that moment: "a voice from the past, joining yours and mine, adding up the layers of harmony" - it kind of made me feel at peace with the fact that I had a lot of positive memories of that friendship and I could keep those at heart while also moving on in the present. ...I'm also a sucker for music metaphors, so there is that.
I was really moved by this song, cheesy as it is, and I was also definitely in the mood for a distraction. Picking up FFIX again felt like the best move.
It was, and my life is forever changed.
The game never stopped being beautiful and funny and touching, and the soundtrack never ceased to amaze. I recognized concepts I've seen in other games but never had I seen them used so artfully. I adored the fantasy world and non-human cast, I found myself enticed by random encounter for the first time because it made me feel like I had to struggle to survive a difficult journey. Music, gameplay, visuals, and story felt like one cohesive work of art for the entire duration.
Life circumstances got me to play the game again, but the game itself was so captivating and wonderful that I binged the entire rest of it - disks 2-4 - in less than a week. Everything else that the game had to say, it told me itself, in its own context, and I was ready to listen.
"You're Not Alone!"
This is going to make me sound like an emotionally-stunted twenty-something, but it has been years since a work of media has got me to have a really good cry. I used to cry playing games all the time as a kid but recently I'll find myself getting emotional, sure, often tearing up, but getting completely red-faced and snot-nosed because I physically cannot contain the emotions being evoked by a work? Years. I can't honestly tell you the last time it happened with certainty.
I feel like an emotional band-aid has been ripped off. I was f*cking sobbing during the entire duration of the "You're Not Alone!" sequence. It didn't matter that what was happening was obviously coming from a mile away, because the delivery was so raw and emotional and human!!! A whole game's worth of Swaggy punching first and asking questions later to save his friends, being Protag McProtag endangering himself for others in any and all circumstances, for the payoff of all of his friends forcing him to stop being such a primadonna and let them help him for once. It's true, too! He relies on them just as much as they rely on him! And the game doesn't just tell you this, no, it lets you try to solo all these fights and waits until you realize how boned you are until they come bail you out.
When Bitchin showed up with her "looks like you need a hand" I wanted to straight up yell at my tv. YES I DO!!! YES I DO NEED YOU BITCHIN!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!! I half knew that SWOOORD was going to heal me before I got truly KO-ed but I had been unmercifully wiped in "unwinnable" battles before in this game, so I legit thought I might have to re-do that whole part of the game again, and I was so relieved and thankful when she showed up and healed me.
This moment exemplifies everything that I adore about this game. It doesn't just tell you its story. It shows it to you, it sings it to you, and it and lets you play it out and feel it for yourself.
"Game Over"
This song is all too familiar to me. Gizamaluke's Grotto was very unforgiving for a first-time Final Fantasy player, especially one who didn't happen to pick up Big on the way for a fourth party member early on.
I hadn't heard the piano part in a few months, though, because when I picked the game back up I started just mashing to reload before it got to that point any time we wiped. I didn't hear it again until the game was truly over, this time for good.
I let it play for a while. Not too long, because I have a CRT TV and didn't want "The End" to get burned in. But a while. Enough to meditate on what I'd just experienced, and how I was feeling about it.
There's so much more to say about the game, far more than I could put in a blog post. But I don't think I need to describe these thoughts in words. I can do what the game did, and use music, use art, use stories, use metaphors, and use symbols to communicate what I mean; and hope that someone else is able and willing to listen.
And although a written record of my thoughts likely won't be preserved for all that long, maybe the feelings and the memories will be, so long as they have been shared.

Writerly contemplation tag!
tagged by the lovely @j-pping; thank you for the tag!
this might end up being long so Iâll add a read more cut âşď¸
2020
what was the most challenging part of writing this year?
I guess the most challenging part of writing this year was tuning out the real world. Iâve always used reading and writing as a form of coping and escapism from all the things that were troubling me. Unfortunately there were times when simply reading and writing werenât helping me and I took so many breaks, postponed so many WIPs I was excited about... I ended up beating myself down for not being able to keep up with an expectation I had for myself and my writing. Considering 2020 was hell for everyone, I came to terms with myself that it cannot be always my fault, I canât blame myself for not being able to do things I set my mind to do, sometimes there are obstacles that take time for you to cross.
Iâm just going to quickly mention stressful anons and hopefully get a point across for all fan fictions writers. WE ARE NOT ROBOTS. WE ARE HUMAN. All of us write for many personal reasons, mine are that I just love writing things which I wish to read! Simple as that. What I wish for some rude people to understand is that the least you could do for us creators is be thankful and be kind to us, give feedback and constructive criticism, share our work. I donât understand why you are scared of the reblog button. When I go through my notes and take a look at some blogs, they are empty. No one is paying us to contribute creatively to the fandom, you are enjoying our content for free while we put hard work and our free time into it, so why should we âhurry upâ, âupdate fasterâ and âwrite more/this/thatâ? Please, remember that we are people too, and the toxicity some people spread on anonymous asks is just incredibly baffling and hurtful to me. If you, as a reader, believe that my request is nonsense and my words are too harsh, then perhaps you should reconsider how youâre viewing content creators before disagreeing without a valid reason.
what was the most enjoyable/rewarding part of writing this year?
The happiness that came from writing something which I enjoyed reading as well! I have been a writer for years on another platform until I had to take a long hiatus because of writerâs block and depression. For how cheesy this may sound, the most enjoyable and rewarding part of writing is in fact writing something that makes me happy even if Iâm torturing my characters and traumatizing them. There is truly no point for me to write things that I donât feel I am enjoying. As I have said other times before on the blog, I would much rather post something that makes me happy, than post something just to get notes from silent readers.
what piece has left the most impact on you and why?
Given the fact that I have not written a lot because of my constant mental health breaks (yes 2020 had me on rollercoaster mental breakdowns more often than usual), I have to say that Damaged is what really kept me entertained with myself and perhaps sane. It has been way too long since Iâve taken on something so creative as building an entire universe from just a dream, but itâs what reminded me why I love writing so much, it reignited my passion. With this story I really wanted to challenge myself to write something unique, something Iâve never done before with any other work... And I admit itâs quite difficult; the easiest part was taking inspiration from EXOâs lore, but the hardest was incorporating it in a universe and storyline completely different to the original concept. Itâs something Iâm set on finishing as a complete multi-chapter story no matter how long it takes.
what have you learned about yourself through the process of writing in the past year?
To be completely honest, I learned that I can push myself out of my comfort zone when writing, because every piece is a fictional world of its own, every character can be more than a copy and paste personality. What do I truly learn about myself if I donât explore things I have not thought about before? I learned that I should not be afraid to write of things that I donât know or fully understand, specifically about things that I didnât post but tried for just for fun. It is a good way of finding out whether a certain subjects interests me or doesnât. I love doing lots of research and gather information for the stories Iâm writing, you get to learn about stuff you usually would never think about.
how has your writing changed in the past year? how have you grown?
Well, I donât really have anything to compare my writing to except my older fan fictions for movies and tv shows. I guess I have changed quite a lot since 2018; my writing style has become more fluid, at least I think it has. Iâm also able to write longer chapters without feeling as if I am dragging it out for the sake of the word count, yet now I have to literally stop myself from just writing too much! It pleases me, to be honest. I remember struggling to sometimes put ideas into words and balance narrative, dialogue and descriptions.
2021
ignoring your wips for a second, if you had all the time and energy in the world to write your magnum opus piece, what would it be about? why is that the dream story youâd write, all other things controlled for?
This can go back to Damaged, honestly! Itâs something that I havenât finished writing and it will be a long story. Itâs the fan fiction which has gotten me out of a 2-year-long writerâs block with such strength, I feel truly attached to it. As I mentioned in one of my first answers for 2020, this is the WIP I want to focus on the most and be proud of it.
how do you want to grow in your writing this year?
I mentioned this is my first 2021 post after I took a short break, but one of my resolutions for this year is to work on self acceptance when it comes to my projects. (Iâll copy and paste what I wrote there so I donât repeat myself with other words) One of my resolutions for 2021 is to write more, to not be afraid of beginning something and even if I end up setting the story aside, at least I will have gotten it out on (digital) paper. I punish myself way too much when Iâm not able to finish something, and that is truly one of the worst things a content creators can go through, in my opinion. I have many drafted works that may or may never be published and I wish to appreciate them more instead of dwelling on the fact of what they could have been.
whatâs one thing youâd wish to see in the fan-writing community this year?
I wish for more love and recognition of the amazing and talented writers that share their content with everyone on tumblr. We are a community, or at least we are supposed to be. I would absolutely love to see more readers actively interacting with writers, share ideas, share art inspired by what you read! As readers, you can contribute as well by sharing moodboards, song recommendations and/or playlists! You are more than welcome to join us in the community as writers too!Â
As for myself, I have mentioned this towards last year but I still want to compile a list of all the writers I am currently following and read their works. I havenât been in a good mindset to do that for a long time and I wish to get to know them. Iâm a pretty shy person who struggles to start up a conversation, so I hope I get to make some friends on tumblr this year!
name one new thing you want to try doing in your writing this year.
I would like to make a list of aus and experiment with them for either one shots or some short series! I have so many creative ideas and thoughts but I always forget to take a note or maybe Iâm doing something else and I end up getting caught up in a stream of consciousness, until I lose the initial spark. Also mentioned plenty of times, I would love to write for other groups, like nct, but for now Iâll focus on exo.
â¨â¨â¨
anyway, that was it for my writerly contemplation tag!
Iâm tagging a few fellow writers, but feel free to ignore for any reason! sorry if I forgot someone but feel free to do this even if I didnât tag you!! @pororodks @velvetsehun @yeoldontknow @yeagerluvr @soos-goddess @shaalk @mooneylooney1 @dewbebe

Everyday Heroes
Marinette is always looking for ways to help, whether it be with bringing a student's concerns to the principal as class president, mending a torn jacket, or stepping up to babysit. For her second Heroes Day as a superhero, though, she's going the extra distance so that she can help even more in emergencies.
ft. Everyday Superhero Marinette and her fabulous influence on the class.
links in the reblog
-------------
When the second Heroes Day of her superhero career came around, Marinette was no less taken off guard than she had been the first time. The days had blurred past in a blur of school, superheroing, and trying to balance the two with extracurricular activities, and so it really wasn't her fault for maybe thinking that it was another week away, maybe, or maybe a month.
This time, though, Marinette had a good deed in mind, something that she had been considering for a while now but hadn't actually gotten around to doing yet. Which was good, because once again, her teacher was putting everyone on the spot by asking them what they would be doing to give back to the city or at least the community around them.
And once again, expectations for her would no doubt be high.
"And Marinette?" Ms. Bustier asked, smile expectant as she turned to her. "What is your good deed this year?"
Marinette smiled, sitting up straighter as she answered. "This year, I've decided to take a CPR and First Aid class from the Red Cross so that I can know what to do in an emergency!" She wouldn't be administering first aid during an akuma attack, of course- Ladybug needed to have her priorities, of course, and while there were other people who knew first aid or could at least figure it out in Paris, there were only so many superheroes in the city- but it might come in handy during babysitting or if she happened across any emergencies during her day-to-day life. "And I want to talk to the instructor about possibly doing a class here at school, too, because the more people there are who know how to react in an emergency, the better!"
Ms. Bustier looked impressed. "That's a very good idea, Marinette! That reminds me that I need to get recertified, too- I took a class a few years ago, but I think the certification only lasts for two years or so."
Marinette nodded. That was right. It hadn't sounded like a particularly long time to her, but the site had explained that it was necessary, since people tended to forget information over time and had to be refreshed so that they could act quickly and safely.
"Perhaps you could do a presentation on what you learned after you've taken the class," Ms. Bustier suggested. "You probably can't do specifics, since people need to learn that from a certified instructor, but what people might do to help?"
Marinette nodded eagerly. It would get her classmates interested, which was a good thing. Even if she couldn't get a class at the school- maybe one with a discount, because those classes were not cheap and some students might not be willing or able to pay that much- then there was the chance that people wouldn't be quite as intimidated by the concept as before and would go seek out a class on their own. Then they could help people who got injured during akuma attacks, patching up scrapes and sprains and cuts that they got while trying to flee from the akumas.
"That training is a good deed that can keep on giving," Ms. Bustier finished, smiling. "Thank you, Marinette. Now Alya, what is your good dead for Heroes Day?"
                              -----------------------------------------
Marinette hadn't even taken her class yet, and already she was generating some interest. Several of her classmates had told her how cool it was that she was taking the course, and Rose had announced that she wanted to take it, too. Even Adrien had come up and told her that it wasn't something that he had thought of before, but he was definitely interested in the idea of learning first aid and being able to help out if something happened.
"You're definitely our class's Everyday Ladybug," he added with a grin. "Always looking for ways to help. I don't think anyone else had even thought of getting certified before, but I know there's more people than just me who are thinking about taking the class now. I'm really interested in hearing what all you learn about!"
Of course, before she could tell Adrien what she learned, Marinette actually had to take the class first. While she had been thinking about it for a while now, she hadn't done that much digging yet- she hadn't had the time- and what she was findingâŚ
Well, it looked like it might be difficult to manage.
The classes that Marinette was seeing were all pretty long. Like, hours and hours and hours. It would be all too easy for an akuma attack to come up during that time, and then she would have to step away and then she wouldn't get her certification. Or an akuma would strike before the class could start, and she would be late and then not be able to take the class, and there would go that fee down the drain, with nothing to show for it.
"There have to be options for people who can't make a ton of space in their schedule," Tikki said as Marinette groaned, face-down on her desk. "I mean, people who work nights or have long shifts or whatever."
"You would think so, but I'm not seeing anything." Already, visions of not being able to fulfill her Heroes Day good dead for the second year in a row were dancing before her eyes, and she slumped further. She shouldn't have added that bit about asking about hosting a class at the school, because now people were going to ask and make sure that she followed up on it. If she hadn't, they would gradually forget, just as everybody else's Heroes Day good deeds were forgotten by the next day. "I'm going to have to take a whole-day class over a weekend or a holiday and just hope for the best."
Above her head, Tikki was still inspecting the screen. "One second- Marinette, can I have the mouse? I want to check something."
Obediently, Marinette's hand slid off of the mouse, giving it over to her kwami. As Tikki swooped down on it, Marinette raised her head up a couple centimeters to watch. Tikki scrolled up, up, up to the top of the page, then clicked on a button labeled course format. Immediately, three options popped up: in-person, online, and combo. She clicked.
"It says that fully online doesn't really give full certification," Tikki reported after a second. "But the combo online and in-person does, and-" she clicked on the option, then waited for the page to finish loading- "the in-person section of the combo is only an hour long."
Marinette straightened immediately. "Really?"
"Really! That shouldn't be too hard to manage!"
Re-energized, Marinette started checking the dates that Tikki had pulled up. Some she couldn't do- she already missed enough school with akuma attacks, she didn't need to skip on purpose- but others were during her lunch break or after school or on weekends, each only an hour long.
And- even better!- there was a note on each of the class listings that she was looking at, recognizing that sometimes people couldn't get to their scheduled class due to akuma attacks and if that happened, to just call the Paris office's number to reschedule the in-class section without having to repay.
Perfect.
"Give yourself plenty of time to do the online section!" Tikki reminded Marinette as she continued scrolling through the times and dates, completely eager and reenergized. "You have class and projects and outings with your friends and superhero-ing to do already, and you're going to need to take notes as you go for your presentation to the class."
"Right." Marinette scanned the list again, mentally striking some of the options out. If she went too soon, she would have to rush through the online section. If she waited too long⌠well, Chloe would no doubt make a Big Deal out of it, claiming that she was trying to back out of her good deed for the second year in the row.
Which was unfair, really- Chloe's good deed was always something dumb that any normal person would do automatically, like 'not insulting others'. It never involved any effort or extra time on her part. And Marinette had tried the previous year, she really had, butâŚ
Well, even the best intentions didn't always work out.
"Maybe I can do just over two weeks out," Marinette decided. "There's one over lunch break that has lots of spaces, and it doesn't cost nearly as much as some of the others. I'll ask Maman to sign me up for it later."
"That sounds good!" Tikki agreed. "Just over two weeks gives you three weekends. As long as you don't over-commit yourself, you should be fine!"
"Well, you know me," Marinette said with a laugh. "I like overcommitting myself. It's not a busy time of the year in classes, at least. That helps."
"Good!" Tikki spun in a circle, then flew down to perch on Marinette's shoulder. "Okay, so now that that's sorted out- do you want to start on your homework, on start making up a slideshow for your presentation? You could put some stats on the first slide or two as a lead-in!"
"Homework, I think," Marinette said with a laugh. "That has a deadline, and the PowerPoint doesn't. But that's a good suggestion, Tikki! Thanks!"
                -----------------------------------------
In a stroke of good luck, Marinette finished up the online section of the course with plenty of time and there were no akumas in sight as she headed into the building where her course was. She had a no-nonsense notepad tucked into her bag with all of her notes from the online portion and a whole array of pens and pencils, plus a couple index cards with her contact information in case the instructor thought that running a course at the collège would be possible (one to hand over, two extras in case the first one got misplaced). Marinette was ready for this.
Marinette was not ready to see Adrien Agreste already sitting in one of the seats around the table, his own notebook already in hand.
"Hi, Marinette!" Adrien said happily, lighting up when he saw her. He patted the seat next to himself in invitation, and Marinette sat, unable to resist. "I hope you don't mind me copying your Heroes Day idea. I just thought it was a really, really good idea and then you mentioned when you were going and that this type of class format lets you do a lot of the work ahead of time and how you could reschedule if there was an akuma attack and I don't get out to do this sort of thing often so I thought it would be less intimidating if I did it with a friend, so here I am," he finished, sounding a bit out of breath and more than a little anxious.
Marinette smiled at him. She couldn't deny that having a friend here made things less intimidating for her, too. "That's fine! It is nice to have a familiar face here. And maybe it'll help our cause when I ask about if they could do a class at the collège, if it's not just one of us."
Adrien grinned, relaxing at once. "Okay! I thought that maybe I should have asked you first, but I had already signed up and everything and I couldn't figure out the cancellation stuff."
"No, no, it's fine!"
It didn't take long for their instructor to show up, checking each of them off and making sure that they had completed their online section. Then she started, and Marinette had to hunker down and focus, taking a few notes as review before they moved to the back to practice some of the skills.
As they moved, Adrien stuck close to Marinette's side, anxiously hovering as the instructor pulled out the CPR dummies and demonstrated what they were meant to be doing. Once she had finished a few cycles, she stood back up and told them to partner up and sit down by a dummy.
"Partners?" Adrien asked hopefully, tapping on Marinette's shoulder. Marinette nodded, catching his arm as she moved forward to claim one of the dummies. Their instructor headed around, handing out little kits to each of them.
"This has a practice breathing mask," she told them as she handed one bag to Adrien and another to Marinette. "Don't use them on a real person, they wouldn't provide the protection that a proper one-way one would."
"I'm not gonna lie, when I signed up I was worried that we might be practicing the mouth-to-mouth on each other," Adrien admitted, leaning over so he was speaking directly in Marinette's ear. "And I got an embarrassingly long way into the online section before I realized that there was no way we would be doing that."
Marinette giggled. "Yeah, I think we would have a really hard time getting our classmates to go if they had to do mouth-to-mouth on each other. There's cooties, you know."
The pouty stink-eye that Adrien sent her made Marinette muffle another round of giggles.
With Adrien there to talk to, the class flew by in a flash. Marinette made sure to take plenty of notes, even though a lot of it was information that they had already covered online. She did take particular note, though, of a couple phone apps that she could download that would help her remember what to do in case of an emergency.
Another thing that might help make the class seem more approachable to others. If people had any worries that they might not be able to remember well enough to help out in an emergency, that should help.
"I'm glad I took this," Adrien told Marinette as the class came to a close and everybody started packing up. "It's well worth the price. Are we going to talk to the instructor now?"
"Yeah, once people have cleared away a bit." Marinette glanced around the room. There were several people lingering near the instructor, clearly wanting to ask for clarification about one thing or another. "Because my question will probably take longer than most of the others, and it's not about what we learned in class." She looked at the slowly dwindling line of stragglers, then at the clock, and winced. "Hopefully we'll still have time to eat. I didn't ask Mom if she could make anything for me, since I wasn't sure when I would be getting back."
Adrien perked up. "I was planning on going to a little cafe nearby after this. Want to come with? My treat!"
"Sure!"
"Well, it's nice to see young faces here," their instructor said, coming up to them once the last of the line had left, waving as they went. "We don't see young people often. Did you guys have a question for me?"
"I do," Marinette said, hopping up at once and hoping that she didn't look too flustered. She was Ladybug. She could do this. "I signed up for this class as my good deed for Heroes Day, and there was a lot of interest in it in my class. I'll be doing a presentation during class to try to drum up interest again, and I was wondering if there would be some way to set up a session at the school so that more of my classmates could learn, too."
Their instructor surveyed the two of them, looking a little doubtful. "WellâŚ"
"I'm one of her classmates," Adrien spoke up, getting up as well. "And there really is a lot of interest. I decided to come outside of class, too, and it was all because Marinette brought up the idea. And I know some of our classmates are a little intimidated by the idea of signing up on their own, but they are interested in learning how to be able to respond in an emergency."
"I mean, they could coordinate to come out as a group." Their instructor didn't look entirely convinced. "They might need to schedule for a bit out, since otherwise classes tend to only have a small handful of openings."
"Part of the concern is transportation, I think," Marinette said quickly, even as her gut sank. She had so hoped that this would go off smoothly, but it was starting to look like that was misplaced hope. "It seems like all of the classes that we could get to during lunch break or after school are over here, and it's clear across the city from our school. We're all collège students, so we rely on public transportation. If we miss the bus over because class went late or we couldn't get to the bus stop on time or the bus was late, we don't have other options."
"I'll run the idea past my supervisor," their instructor finally promised. "I'll see what he thinks. Do you have contact information for, ah, your teacher? Or principal?"
"I have my contact info," Marinette said immediately, feeling a little nettled. "I'm class president, I can pass on information to my teacher."
"She's the best class president I've ever seen," Adrien said loyally, and Marinette resisted the urge to blush. He was just trying to back her up, she shouldn't read too far into it. "She's the one who came up with the idea, too."
Their instructor sighed. "All right. If a session at your school is feasible, he'll email."
"Thank you," Marinette said quickly, hoping she didn't sound too let down. She pulled out one of her prepared cards. "This is my email."
Several minutes later, she and Adrien were headed out of the building. Marinette couldn't help the dejected drag to her step. She had so hoped to come back to class today with a strong "maybe" at the very least, ideally a 'yes'. Instead, they got a very doubtful 'maybe'.
"I thought she was being pretty rude," Adrien told Marinette as they headed down the street. "I mean, they want more people certified, right? And I'm sure Mr. Damocles could get a grant to pay for people who are interested to get certified but they can't pay. It's just that this isn't a very convenient location."
"It's really not," Marinette agreed. "I had to rush to get here, because the bus was late." That was a half-lie, actually- she had had to transform and finish the trek as Ladybug, because the midday traffic in Paris had slowed the bus to a crawl. But even though it would have made her points a lot stronger, she couldn't just go and say that. "And the one after school would have the same problem, I bet. And there are weekend options, but people have stuff going on."
Adrien nodded. "Right. And it looked like those sessions fill up first, too, so people could have trouble getting in with their friends." He snagged her arm, tugging her towards a small cafe. "Is Greek okay?"
Marinette managed a bright smile for him. "That sounds fantastic."
It didn't take long for the two of them to order their food and get settled on stools at a counter by the window. By the time they received their food, Marinette was starting to come up with a new plan of attack.
Getting a class set up at the school had never been a given, she had known that. But there was so much interest that she couldn't just not do anything to encourage her classmates to follow through with the training. So maybe they could set their sights on a class that was a ways out- during the summer, maybe- and try to organize so that no one would be going on their own. She knew from experience that sometimes all someone needed was another person to walk them through something- in this case, the sign-up process- to do something like this, so she could still help. She was about to say as much when a blinking light caught her eye. Marinette glanced at her phone just out of habit, then did a double-take when she caught sight of the email she had received. In a sudden scramble, she set her gyro down and dove for her phone again, catching it just as the screen dimmed and opening up the email.
"What is it?" Adrien asked, craning his neck to try to see. "Mari?"
"I got an email from the first aid people!" Marinette said excitedly, pushing her phone over so Adrien could read it, too. "And look!"
Dear Ms. Dupain-Cheng,
Our CPR/AED/First Aid instructor Linda Ricky mentioned your inquiry about having a session at your collège so that more students could get their certification and be ready to respond in case of an emergency. We would certainly be interested in setting up such a session, as we want to get the younger generation involved in our training efforts. We can offer a mixed-format course at a reduced rate for students. Before we set anything up, I would like to know how many students would be interested so that we know if we would need more than one session set up. We can go with either the full CPR/AED/First Aid course or just First Aid depending on interest.
Thank you for joining us and I hope to hear from you soon!
"Oh, they're super interested," Adrien said with a laugh, pushing Marinette's phone back to her. "Good job, Marinette. So what's the next step?"
"Well, I need to get back to them by this evening at the latest," Marinette said, already starting to brainstorm. "Thanking them and trying to get a timeline set up for when I'll get back to them. I need to talk to Ms. Bustier and see when there's time for my presentation. It's mostly ready, I think, I just need to polish it up. And then I need to make sign-up sheets, and those will be up for probably a week. And if we want students from other classes to know about it, that'll probably take more presentations or fliers or something."
Adrien let out a low whistle. "That's a lot. If I can help out with anything, Marinette, just let me know." He grinned. "After all, even an Everyday Ladybug can probably use an Everyday Chat Noir to help out."
                -----------------------------------------
Much to Marinette's relief, getting things all lined up for her presentation wasn't anywhere as much work as she had worried. With Adrien's help, she got things polished up and ready to go within a couple days. Ms. Bustier shifted a few things around so that Marinette could so her presentation, and that all went smoothly.
"Before they arrange anything, we need to know who would actually be interested," Marinette told the class at the end of the presentation. "So I have a sign-up sheet that I'll be posting on the whiteboard here, and then I have fliers, too- these were Adrien's idea, so we can get other classes interested, too." Marinette waved one of the aforementioned fliers. She had taken a fairly standard flier for the course and modified it, making it clear that they were hoping to have an opportunity to have the course at the school and where interested parties should sign up. She had also tacked on a FAQ with information answering the questions that she and Adrien had thought up. "I'm hoping to get one in as many classrooms as possible. Obviously there might be some classes here who are too young to take the class yet, so we don't need to get those classrooms, but I'm hoping to make sure that everyone who's old enough to take the class at least knows about the opportunity."
"I can pass those around in the teacher's lounge, Marinette," Ms. Bustier said at once. "That was a very nice presentation, and I hope all of you at least give this opportunity some consideration. It's very possible that none of you will ever need to use any of the skills that you learn during the class, but it's wonderful if you're prepared! It really can save a life."
Marinette beamed as her classmates clapped, unable to resist the urge to duck her head bashfully as she hung up the sign-up sheet and headed back to her seat. Adrien offered her a high-five and she complied with a grin.
"Can we sign up now?" Alya asked at once, sticking her hand up in the air. "Or do we have to wait until the end of class?"
"Well, if you want to sign up now while I set up our lesson for today, you're certainly welcome to," Ms. Bustier told her. "If you need some time to think about it-"
She was cut off as easily half of the class got up, rushing to the front with pencils in hand to sign up. Others were clearly still considering the option. Marinette couldn't hide her grin as she watched. She had suspected that there would be a lot of interested people in her class, just based off of the response after she mentioned it the first time. But this was incredible.
Maybe only Ladybug and Chat Noir could end akuma fights, but with so many students trained to help out others- maybe, just maybe, they could help make the battles just a little bit safer.

Chapter Four
Y/N was drenched in sweat as she wandered back to her room, the orange morning light flooding in through the plentiful windows and dancing across her glistening skin. She had asked JARVIS to wake her up extra early. 4:45 am was a ridiculous time to be waking up in the morning, but she did it anyway for the sake of running with Cap again. He seemed surprised to see her again when the teen walked out on the front walk and began stretching as though it wasnât a skill sheâd just been taught yesterday, but the man was supportive of it, and pushed her like a coach to run harder, faster, and further. By the time Y/N returned to the comfort of her shower her entire body was acidic with the burn from the morning workout. Her body had not been prepared for this sudden and intense regime. Her muscles ached and she felt the soreness in her joints as she tried to lather the parts of her body that were hard to reach. The water was soothing, but it did nothing for the pain. It made her feel crazy for wanting to continue to run with Steve Rogers and his super-soldier form. He was genetically engineered to run harder, faster, and further than any normal human could, and Y/N knew her joining him was cutting his workout into a mere speed walk for the man. There was a part of her that still thought she may be able to keep up one day if she worked hard enough, but she knew that wasnât a realistic goal for a teenage girl whoâs most impressive quality was her incessant determination. Even knowing that she could never improve enough to complete Capâs full workout, she appreciated the bond she felt as the two wordlessly raced through the empty upstate streets.
The teen shut off the water in a hurried attempt to be on time. She hadnât exactly thought about how this new morning ritual would fit into her schedule which of course meant she was running late for school. Normally it probably wouldnât concern her too much, but Y/N had promised Peter a ride. In part, it was a thank you for taking her to the sister march. She was still running on the high that came from feeling like a part of a movement. It didnât solve her problems with Amadeus and everything that had happened after, but it made her feel hopeful she could figure those things out and Y/N had Peter to thank for sharing his incessant optimism. He was a kind and caring friend and it made a warmth radiate in the girl's chest as she rushed over to her closet. Pressed for time she flipped through her closet and tore out her classic skinny jeans and stumbled into them, her tired limbs screaming at her for so much as using them. As she balanced on one sore leg, trying to pull the clothing over the other her muscles gave out and she crashed down onto the cold wood floor. The girl winced at the pain but took the opportunity to pull her jeans up around to her knees before pushing herself up with what little bicep she had. Y/N was so far past trying and mindlessly pulled a random t-shirt from the closet. She began jogging toward the bedroom door as she pulled the shirt over her head, not stopping to so much as look at it when she bounded down the steps to the mess hall.
âGood work this morning, kid,â Steve offered as he held up a high five that Y/N casually took, hiding the amount of pain that came with swinging her arm as she sat down on the stool to his right.
Just as usual, Tony and Steve had been chatting over coffee at the breakfast bar, but Pepper had left for Atlanta on an early flight that morning. She had a clean energy conference that she was hosting a panel for as the CEO of Stark Industries. The woman had been stressed out and relentlessly preparing for it all week, but Y/N knew if anyone could command a room it was Pepper Potts. So Y/N joined the men in her life, who had used this excuse to simply throw a box of bakery goods on the island counter and call it breakfast. Y/N eagerly snagged a breakfast doughnut from the box and she had just shoved her mouth full of the sweet treat when Tony humorously asked, âWhereâd you get the shirt?â
Y/N glanced down at the graphic on her chest, completely unsure what she had placed on her aching body before carelessly answering, âSome stand outside the airport.â She took another bite of the doughnut, but her mouth was getting dry from trying to consume the bread so quickly, but she was going to do anything to catch up with time and pick up Peter.
Tony nodded with a smile teasing, âSpider-Man, huh?â as he circled around the island. He passed behind Steve and reached up to Y/Nâs neck. âTagâs still on it,â he commented as the man instinctively snapped the plastic piece holding the paper barcode to the fabric and moved to the trash can to throw it away.
The teen carelessly explained, âItâs just tourist crap.â Y/N hated tourist merchandise with crappy graphic designs like âIâĽď¸NYâ. It was useless and ugly waste that no one would ever wear once they got home. Sheâd purchased the shirt when she first arrived in New York a month ago. Y/N had no intention of purchasing any overpriced goods when sheâd landed, but something about the comic-y rendering of Spider-Man drew the girlâs attention. Maybe it had been the nerves of having to meet her biological father for the first time in her life, or maybe it was just the change of air. Either way, Y/N had impulsively handed cash over to the kind merchant and left with the shirt she was now wearing. It seemed so long ago already, and even if her life had been turbulent since moving into the Avengers Facility, she had at least gotten used to the fact that it was different. She no longer felt like she was in denial about who her biological father was or the fact that she was living among superheroes. It seemed normal to her as she elaborated, âSuperheroes are as big of a staple of New York as the empire state building⌠or taxis. There were a million others just like it at the airport.â
âWhat? You didnât want to get a shirt of your old man?â Tony teased smugly as he leaned onto his elbows on the counter across from his daughter. Y/N rolled her eyes at her obnoxious father and took another large bite of doughnut. The man continued to poke fun as he looked at Steve and dramatically assumed, âThey were probably all out of Iron Man shirts."
âOr they were all rusted in the back,â Y/N quipped back over a dry mouth full of bread. Steve gave the teen a disapproving face, but simply shrugged at him and jumped off her stool. Tony paused for a moment, staring at his daughter with his jaw slightly agape and his brows furrowed in a mix of pride and offense as she walked behind him to fill a glass with water. His expression morphed to mischievous smile when he asked, âArenât you picking up Peter Parker this morning?â
âYeah. Why?â Y/N responded carelessly as she sipped the cold water. She wanted to be grateful for the change of subject, but Tonyâs humored mannerisms made the girl weary. Instead of saying a word Tony began to turn red in the face. She could see him trying to maintain his composure as he tensed so hard the vein began to pop out in his forehead. Y/N couldnât so much as ask what was so funny before the man burst, letting out a long wheeze of hilarity. âWhat?â Y/N inquired impatiently. She was completely in the dark about what he was so clearly amused by. The girl began to feel insecure about the shirt. Clearly, there was something about Spider-Man in New York that she didnât know, something that meant she shouldnât be wearing that shirt. Y/N aggressively slammed down her glass and insisted, âYouâre impossible!â Her father inhaled and began almost silently laughing hysterically. He moved his hands in an attempt to communicate but was unable to speak between fits of breathless chuckling. Obviously, she didnât get the joke and she didnât want to sit around and be the butt of it. She had to leave to get Peter anyway, so Y/N scooped up her backpack from the floor and hurried toward the exit, holding up a rebellious middle finger behind her on her way out.
âLanguage!â Steve yelled after the teen.
Y/N pulled down her hand and smiled, calling to the Captain over her shoulder, âDidnât say anything.â
She did love getting the last word, so before anything more could be said Y/N broke into a shaky jog across the glossy floors of the building, hurrying out to the entryway where her Audi was just pulling up. Y/N sighed in relief as she began climbing into the driverâs door. When she attempted to sit her muscles gave way and she more collapsed conveniently into the seat. Without any hesitation, Y/N tossed her backpack into the backseat and slammed the door shut, instantly punching the gas. the sportswear loudly sped down the driveway and Y/N watched the needle on the speedometer as it climbed to rebellious highway speeds.
When she pulled up to the curb outside Peterâs apartment building the boy was already standing by the street with his heavy backpack slung over one shoulder. He carelessly pulled the earbuds from his ears one by one and opened the passenger door, stumbling as he attempted to climb into the low car. Peter fell into the seat and quickly readjusted, shoving his book bag under the dash at his feet. He turned to buckle in but paused as a cheeky grin slipped onto his face. Peter moved to click the seatbelt together as he mentioned, âI like your shirt.â
Y/N felt the embarrassment already setting back in from this morning. She instinctively rolled her eyes and begged, âNot you, tooâŚâ She moved the gear shift to drive and pulled away from the curb as she rambled on, âI just spent the whole morning being teased by Tony for it and I wish I hadnât worn it. I was in a hurry-â
âNo, no, no!â Peter trailed urgently over the girlâs maundering. âItâs cool,â he insisted. Smiling wider before trying to maintain a serious composure and wiping the joy from his face in a tough-guise.âSpider-Man⌠Heâs cool,â The boy reiterated.
Y/N was hesitant to let her guard down and suspiciously asked, âYou really think so? Thereâs not some big thing I donât know about Spider-Man?â
Peterâs eyes grew wide and he smiled at the obvious flaw in Y/Nâs phrasing and he pandered, âI mean, his identity, butââ
âYou know what I meant!â Y/N aggressively argued. The boy threw his hands up in innocence as he pushed back into the passenger door. It made Y/N grow quiet in embarrassment. She hadnât intended to be so reactive, and it wasnât Peterâs fault she was feeling insecure. The girl could feel the blood flow down from her head, calming her to a normal composure as she swallowed her pride and admitted, âIâm sorry. I guess Iâm just a little on edge about coming back from my suspension.â Peter slowly put his hands down and resumed his comfortable posture as he stared at Y/N. He was clearly listening intensely and it made the girl wonder how she ever could have snapped at him after everything heâd done for her in just under a month of knowing each other. Y/N sighed, knowing Peter was waiting for her to go on in her vulnerability, and continued. âI have to go in there and face Amadeus Cho. Now heâs had a week to establish his story in the population, and Iâve not been there to defend myself. At the end of the day, I hit him with the lunch tray because it was his word over mine. I didnât stop the situation, I just made it worse.â
Peter nodded slowly as he took in what the girl was saying. She wanted to apologize at that moment for continuing to vent about the whole thing around him, but then she thought about how he helped her out of the party, how scared and protective he seemed in all of it, and she thought better of it. It seemed no wonder Peter was so good at having these conversations. He was a part of that experience. Heâd seen her in that distress and he didnât hesitate, but being a hero could take a toll too. They had just braked at a stop light when Peter honestly mentioned, âItâs probably not going to be great.â Y/N glanced at the boy, who looked tense. His brow was furrowed and his jaw was strained as he struggled with the hard honesty. âPeople have been talking, and they seem pretty set on their story. I donât want to be right about this, but youâre probably going to be outcast.â The girl struggled with the cold truth as it froze her heart and shot ice through her veins. Though it was difficult to hear, she was thankful for Peterâs honesty. The light turned to green and Y/N faced the road again as she drove on. She was surprised when her friend continued in a new optimistic tone, âBut you still have me. Ned and MJ know the real story. You probably have a few others on your side, too. We might not be the cool crowd, but that doesnât seem to have bothered you yet.â
Y/N felt the warmth of his words calming her rigid fear. When he put it like that, it sounded better than what she had dealt with at Midtown before. The relaxation and twisted joy seemed to complex to put into words, so Y/N simply said, âYouâre cool, Parker,â as a half smile met her lips.
Peter smiled and sat up in his seat in satisfaction, changing the subject as he asked, âSo Spider-Man, huh?â
The return to the previous conversation made Y/N playfully roll her eyes and shake her head as they drove, catching a glimpse of the sunlight flickering through the trees behind Peterâs head. He held the expression of a middle schooler teasing their friend about a new secret crush, and it was as adorable as it was annoying. âWhat about him?â Y/N countered as the schoolyard came into view.
âYou like him,â Peter stated smugly.
Y/N began to protest, challenging the boy, âWho said I liked him?â
Peter didnât miss a beat to nonchalantly point out, âYouâre wearing a Spider-Man shirt.â
Y/N glanced at the boy in the passenger seat as she braked at a stop sign and adjusted in her seat, grimacing at the soreness in her legs from the run. The girl tiredly shrugged and admitted, âTouchĂŠ.â Â Peter looked satisfied with himself, and Y/N wanted to banter but couldnât find it in herself to do anything more than smile.
They finally pulled into the school parking lot, but instead of traveling down the rows, Y/N threw the gearshift into park directly in front of the main entrance. The girl leaned over her right shoulder and reached into the backseat, struggling to pull her backpack through the small space between her and Peter. It was heavy and her aching muscles struggled to manage it, losing control once it finally broke free and incidentally letting it hit the car horn. Y/N cringed as the eyes of all the students in the parking lot turned toward her Audi. Even worse was the staff member manning the parking lot who began hurrying across the entryway to tell her off for parking in the way. She figured it was now or never to flaunt the joys of being a Stark.
âGet out,â Y/N commanded to Peter, who hurriedly grabbed his backpack. He looked at his friend in frantic confusion as she opened her door, quickly turning to step out as well.
âHEY! YOU CANâT PARK THERE!â the faculty member yelled as he broke into a run to berate the girl.
Peter spun around to look at his friend over the roof of the short car, wide-eyed and panicked. Y/N smiled mischievously back at the perplexed boy and began walking away from the vehicle. She felt the soreness in her legs but maintained her smug composure. Peter stared after her for a moment before jogging to catch up to her, striding by her side. The high-strung man whoâd been yelling at her finally reached the two students, reprimanding, âYoung lady, I donât care how rich you are, you cannot park thereââ
âI didnât,â Y/N commented, not so much as hesitating as she passed by the staff member. The man looked past the girl he was scolding and gaped, causing Peter to spin around quick, walking backwards as he processed the missing sports car. A smirk popped onto his face when he finally spotted the Audi parking itself across the lot, understanding the obnoxious stunt Y/N had just pulled, much to the disdain of the uptight parking monitor. The boy swung around and jogged back to his friendâs side with a sense of mischievous pride for being a part of the stunt theyâd just pulled, whether or not he know what was going on at the time.
The two made their way to Peterâs locker, where Ned was waiting as always. He looked up from his phone and grinned kindly when he saw Peter and Y/N walking up, shoving his phone into his pocket as Peter began spinning his combination into the steel wheel. âHey,â Ned greeted with a beaming smile he always seemed to have. Forever the optimist, Ned balanced out the dynamic of Peter and MJ perfectly. Ned finally noticed Y/Nâs shirt and burst out excitedly, âYou like Spider-Man?â
Y/N hadnât realized when she threw it on this morning what a talking point it would be, and it honestly made her regret it just a bit. Still, she smiled shyly at her friend and responded, âYeah, I guess.â It seemed like no big deal to the girl, but Ned seemed thrilled as he nudged Peter amiably. Y/N couldnât help but laugh at the interaction and make the assumption that âYou two are pretty big Spider-Fans, arenât you?â She was delighted by the adorable jolt of excitement they both seemed to get regarding the web-slinging hero.
âWell, Peterââ Ned began as he turned to come face to face with Peterâs wide eyes and pursed lips. Y/N watched as they had yet another one of their silent conversations, in which Peter shook his head vigorously at whatever he suspected Ned was about to say. It made the girl smile at how easily he was embarrassed. Ned suddenly turned back to Y/N and insisted, âWeâre big fans,â with a big smile. Y/N couldnât help but giggle and shake her head at the strange behavior of her friends. She found it enduring that they would get so childishly giddy, at least Ned was. Peter looked like he wanted to bury his head in his locker.
Over Nedâs shoulder, Y/N suddenly noticed the cold air of Amadeus Cho appearing at the end of the hall. She felt her expression shift to concern and she was powerless to stop it. It felt like a weakness to reveal that she was still scared, but she wanted to be anywhere but in that hallway at that moment. âWell, hey,â the girl began quickly before excusing herself, âIâve got to get to class, but Iâll see you two later, yeah?â The two boys nodded slowly and watched as the girl very suddenly took off down the hall to her AP Lit classroom. She knew it was weird, and she was ashamed she was letting Cho control her like this, but she really didnât want to even see him. It was too much emotionally, and Y/N just wanted to go back to being a normal student.

My Top 20 Fanfic Recommendations
Aka what to read to understand me/my tastes or what fanfic Iâd bring to a desert island to avoid boredom.
First off this is my personal favorites and most highly recommended list, you may not like some or all of them, thatâs fine.
Secondly, Iâve been wanting to make this sort of list for a while - a collection of my favorite fanfics and authors in one place which I can refer back to/up date as time goes by.
This will be mostly Naruto fanfic, since Iâve been in that fandom the longest, though I have included works from other fandoms such as; The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Inuyasha, MCU, American Gods, Girl Genius, Labyrinth, Van Helsing, and Batman The Dark Knight Rises.
Links to fic, and author page, included. I try to mention if I know someone is on tumblr. Let me know if I missed anybody.
Be sure to read the tags, and pay attention to the warnings before reading any of these - you are in control of what you consume in fandom. If you are feeling unsure about a fic and want to ask someone about it before reading, feel free to contact me! I try to check my messages regularly.
Please try to leave a comment/like/kudos if you enjoy the fics, the authors all deserve them. (If you canât leave comments, thatâs fine too - real life be like that sometimes. Donât stress over it.)
20. To Trammel Some Wild Thing By Anon E. Mouse
This is completely self indulgent and a delight to read. The characterization is good and its plot is so much fun. Iâm an unrepentant Dracula fan, in all his forms, and this ones damn entertaining. Incomplete - Anna/Dracula - Van Helsing
19. Nukenin By WhisperingDarkness
This fic, and the works inspired by it, are so much fun to read. Basically a 3 for 1 recommendation (be sure to check the links at the end!) A great Kakashi centric work, their characterization is excellent and the kids are great! Complete - No Pairing - Naruto
18. Fear By Almighty_Hat
I know, I know this isnât the OT3, but bear with me, this is a really good series, looking at what ifs and giving us All the Jagers. Great slice of life Girl Genius style. Complete with an Incomplete series - Agatha/Jorji - Girl Genius
17. Klepto By DeGlace
This so much fun! A rare pair for sure, but it is so good. The chemistry between these two is amazingly portrayed. This fic is sexy, itâs vicious, it holds no bars and delivers on every promise. Also be sure to check out their fic Marrow, which just missed this list. Complete - Catwoman/Bane - Batman Darknight Rises
16. More Fair Than Snow By Jalen Strix
Oh man, this is such a good series. This author in general is very good, and has several other excellent fics, but this series is my favorite of the lot. Great balance of magic and real world, interesting use of fairy tales and a wonderful romance. Complete - Jareth/Sarah - Labyrinth
15. The Woods Are Deep, My Dear by Azzandra

12. Lord Charming by forthright
This fic is sooo good. The drama, the lore building, the execution, all perfect. Now I know the chapter numbers look intimidating, but they are written in 100 words chapters, so donât fear too much, youâll get through it! Complete - Sesshoumaru/Kagome - Inuyasha
11. The House that Luck Built By TheBlackestFrost
This is so well researched, itâs use of belief and mythology is superb. I had so much fun reading this, but also I cried during some of it too. An amazing fix that convinces you of the romance with one of the parties being dead for most of it. Author on tumblr! Give! Them! A look! Complete - Laura/Sweeney - American Gods.
10. The Company of Trees By theroadkillcafe
This is my favorite Mokuton!Sakura fic ever. Itâs amazing, it really captures the trials and tribulations of a young girl whoâs life is changed so drastically. The supporting cast is really good too. Incomplete - No Pairing - Naruto
9. Kill Your Heroes by TheLightAtLastAndAlways aka Evil Is A Relative Term
Aaaaaaaaaa this is so good!!! The lore! The character growth! The plot twists! This is a masterpiece of writing, and I adore it. This author is never afraid to give gritty consequences, while keeping it fun and action packed. Incomplete - Itachi/Sakura sort of - Naruto
8. Retrograde Motion by Crunchysunrises
This is a fantastic example of the Time Travel trope, and tackles some really interesting lore and world building. I unreservedly love the part were we see Sakuraâs seals from her family. It touched me so much I reread the whole thing 3 times in short order. Incomplete - No pairing - Naruto.
7. Amaryllis By silverfootsteps
This author is on tumblr, go check them out! And also this fantastic AU fic! I fell in love with this world, and the characters in it. A rich setting to sink your teeth into, with masterful twists and turns. Itachi is a very delicate flower and itâs great. Incomplete - Itachi/Sakura - Naruto
6. SansĂťkh By determamfidd
This fic is amazing, I was able to get my mother in fanfic with this. I think itâs really well written, it feels very organic with the Tolkien world. Iâm gonna get this hand bound in leather once itâs complete and gift it to myself, I want this in hard copy. Bilbo/Thorin - The Hobbit & LotR
5. Meeting Like This by FettsOnTop
And also the rest of the series. This Author is a prolific Boba/Leia writer, and all of itâs good, so give it a go and check them out! This series really defined this ship for me, and is my favorite work by the author so far. Complete - Boba Fett/Leia Organa - Star Wars
4. The Pilgrim Soul By jachap
Holy heck in a hand basket this fic is a feast. You will drown in this, the richness of this world will linger long after the final chapter ends. This is a historical fic, starting in the 1920âs and just keeps going even in the sequel. So much research has been done for this, and you can tell. Be warned you will cry. Has a sequel thatâs just as good and being updated. Complete - Darcy/Steve/Bucky - MCU
3. Hermione Granger and the Serpents Renaissance by epsi10n.
This is my absolute favorite Harry Potter fic, itâs incredible. The author is very good at building tension, and then ending their chapters on cliff hangers, so you spend plenty of time on the edge of your seat reading this. Incomplete - Hermione/currently undecided. - Harry Potter
2. The Eyes Have It By Shana the Short
Written for FaNoWriMo. I adore this, and itâs incomplete sequel. Itâs. So. Good. I can not recommend this enough - itâs fun, it explores interesting lore on what it would be like to develop a brand new Kekkei Genkai, and it has great character development for those who would usually go over looked. Complete - Sakura/Chojuro in the sequel. - Naruto
1. Five Kingdoms for the Dead by Evil Is A Relative Term
This is it, this right here is my favorite fanfic of all time. I LOVE this. I love the characterization, the plot, and is one favorite depiction of Madara Uchiha in fiction. Of all time. This author has already appeared on this list before, and I cannot recommend enough going out and checking out their work. Complete - Neji/Sakura - Naruto
This is not the be all, end all of good fic Iâve read, let alone all the good fic that exists, and I am very tempted to just add a list of authors I like too, but that would be a very ambitious list. Seriously, the number of stories I had to put aside because I love them but they are not quite on the list.... I have 1760 subsripctions just on AO3 alone. I couldnât fit them all on here.
P. S. If you wish to reblog with any fic recs of your own, please do so! Iâm always looking for new reading material!

Author Spotlight:Â AlexxAplin
Every week we interview a writer from The Magicians fandom. If you would like to be interviewed or you want to nominate a writer, get in touch via our ask box.
First things first, tell us a little about yourself.
I am a gay, 25 year old who loves most things entertainment related, from gaming, to TV and Film. I'm an Entertainment Journalist by trade, and I write (and roleplay) in my spare time as well, mostly because my creative energy can't be contained by just articles alone.
How long have you been writing for?
That is quite a hard question. Technically I've been writing various things since I was 13, but I didn't really get into Roleplaying or Fandom writing until I was about 16, so...almost 10 years?
What inspired you to start writing for The Magicians?
That is a tough question, but I think I can answer it fairly concisely by saying that Prior to 4x13, I had written mostly with a few people that weren't REALLY fans, but were humoring me lol. After the finale, I was very upset and aimless, until I met a group of like-minded people on Discord, who not only encouraged me and supported my ideas, but also decided to write with me too (a few of them anyhow :) )
Who is/are your favourite character(s) to write? What it is about them that makes them your favourite?
I absolutely LOVE writing Q. I identify him pretty well, and I enjoy playing him a little more...sensual than he is allowed to be in the show or in the books. I think my second favorite (not counting a character i've created and haven't ACTUALLY shared yet) would have to be Eliot, because he is just so much fun in general.
Do you have a preference for a particular season/point in time to write about?
It really depends on my mood honestly. I love doing Fix-its, Canon-Divergent AUs, and anything involving reworking things, or adding new ideas to make things even crazier. My favorite season is Season 3 though, so I need to write more in that timeline context.
Are you working on anything right now? Care to give us an idea about it?
Oh boy, do you have all week? Lol. Uh, right now i'm in the process of editing a fic I wrote with a friend of mine, and I have another collaborative fic (that I worked on with the same Author) that i've got to find time to post.
I also have a fic for the MHHE (Magicians Hallmark Holiday Extravaganza) I'm working on with a friend, and a DOZEN and one other projects that are in progress.
How long is your âto do listâ?
Too long to name to be honest, and it keeps growing! I swear my brain is housing these ideas in some flubbery substance.
What is your favourite fic that youâve written for The Magicians? Why?
I only have two fics up right now, but my favorite fic is one I hope to actually put up on Ao3 either today or tomorrow, called Eau De Spicy Nerd. It is a cheeky little play on a few things, and I can't wait for people to see it.
Many writers have a fic that they are passionate about that doesnât get the reception from the fandom that they hoped for. Do you have a fic you would like more people to read and appreciate?
I'll be honest, most of my favorite fics are from other people. However, I think of my fics, my "Is that Alright?" Fic (which is currently two standalone chapters but will be expanded soon for a full cohesive story) is an emotional feelings train that I hope more people see and resonate with. Fair warning I have been told it will make you cry.
What is your writing process like? Do you have any traditions or superstitions that you like to stick to when youâre writing?
My writing process is very instinctual. I'm terrible at writing by myself in most cases, because I thrive on interaction, bouncing ideas back and forth, and then just letting things go where they go. As stupid as it may sound, sometimes I feel like the characters are more in control of what lands on the page than I am. I just...feel it. Sometimes I lay awake with scenes playing in my head, that i have to write down or I just can't sleep at all.
I usually write a fic (with a friend usually, minus Is That Alright? and its first two chapters) and then afterward I compile it all in a doc (usually pasted from Discord) and work my way through, adding things that come to mind. I pass it off to any other authors collaborating, then once it is polished it goes on to a Beta.
Do you write while the seasons are airing or do you prefer to wait for hiatus? How does the ongoing development of the canon influence and inspire your writing process?
I am quite literally ALWAYS writing. It keeps me sane, especially when work is hectic. Unless work is taking too much of my focus, i'm always working on things. Canon ACTUALLY has helped me finish things before, or has given me ideas to start new things. Sometimes even the smallest plot thread will spark a full idea for me, for example I had the idea for a full AU verse I haven't started yet, just from a conversation about Fillorian marriage and Polyamory.
What has been the most challenging fic for you to write?
Well, I can't REALLY talk too heavily about it because it is my MHHE fic, but the hardest part for me has been sticking to the prompt and not deviating. Sometimes I have ideas for things that stray too far, and i'm having to learn to NOT do that, since it is for a challenge and not my own enjoyment.
Are there any themes or tropes that you like particularly like to explore in your writing?
I love writing smutty things. I think our society should be more sex positive, and so I often try to make my fics the "NC17" version if possible. Some plots aren't conducive for that, which is fine, but anything with smut, or fluff, is A++ in my book. I also love soulmate AU's, Soul bonding, and lots and lots of cheesy things.
Are there any writers that inspire your work? Fanfiction or otherwise?
Oh goodness, I'm not sure I should call out individual folks here, but I am totally inspired by SO MANY Fanfic writers. I also love Neil Gaiman and Lev Grossman as artists and people. To be honest though I am most inspired by fanfic writers these days, because the world is a scary place and fanfic gives me a break. I've learned so many great techniques from fanfic writers too.
What are you currently reading? Fanfiction or otherwise?
I gobble up as much Magicians fic as I can, usually the fluffy or smutty stuff unless i'm in the mood for tears lol. I also keep up with a few different authors, but these days I don't have as much time to read novels as i'd like.
What is the most valuable piece of writing advice youâve ever been given?
The best advice I've ever been given is actually two pieces of advice. 1. Never force yourself to finish something your heart isn't in. If you do, you won't be satisfied with the end result. 2. Do not set out to tell the story you planned. Set out to tell a GOOD story you and your readers will love. If you love it, other people will too.
Are there any words or phrases you worry about over using in your work?
Oh there are plenty, most are descriptors for facial expressions. I sometimes find it hard to balance too much detail with not enough detail.
What was the first fanfic that you wrote? Do you still have access to it?
I actually don't remember what my first Fanfic was. I don't think I've posted most of my beginning work. I think the first one was a Queer as Folk fanfic that got lost on an old, dead hard-drive lol.
Rapidfire Round!
Self-edit or Beta?
Both, a good author knows their flaws and also seeks critique.
Comments or Kudos/Reblogs or Likes?
Give it all to me, or whatever makes you feel most comfortable. I'm not fussy, I just want people to enjoy what I write.
Smut, Fluff or Angst?
Smut or Fluff. Angst is reserved for if i'm in the right headspace, i've had...bad experiences.
Quick & Dirty or Slow Burn?
Depends on my mood, some days I don't have the attention span for a slow burn fic, especially if it is incomplete.
Favourite Season?
Season Three
Favourite Episode?
The Musical Episode with Under Pressure. So much of that was AMAZINGLY done.
Favourite Book?
Havenât read them.
Three favourite words?
Love, Fuck (it fits so many purposes) and Symphony

OC questions: 30 to 50!
30. Which one of your OCs would most likely have a secret stuffed animal collection? - Indigo Chromati, if only âsecretâ as in âif anyone finds out I bought more theyâll hold an interventionâ.
31. Pick one OC of yours and explain what their tumblr blog would be like (what they reblog, layout, anything really) - Kaimanaâs Tumblr would probably have one of those ~aesthetic~ layouts, all the non-text posts would be selfies and fashion with reblogs of ocean and, surprise, more fashion.32. Which one of your OCs would be the most suitable horror game protagonist and why? - Probably Potato Russet, if the protagonist has to remain good throughout. Sheâs the right combination of sensible and excitable, Iâd say.33. Your shyest OC? - Probably Jocelyn.34. Do you have any twin characters? - The Byzantine twins, Scarlet and Cerulean. I canât think of any others at the moment, but I likely have other twinsies.35. Any sibling characters? - Plenty! Tenne and Gamboge, Indigo and Ivory (technically half-sibs but whatev), Potato and Muffin, the Ozmanda sisters (Francesca and Isabella), Noella and FuegoâŚthose are the only ones I can think of at the moment, but there are likely more.36. Do you have OC pairs where the other part belongs to someone else (siblings, lovers, friends etc)? - Not quite yet, but me and a friend are working on a character who ends up being Fuegoâs boyfriend⌠9u9~âŞ37. Introduce an OC who is not quite human - All my characters that arenât human arenât trying to hide it, so I donât know whatâs meant by ânot quite humanâ.38. Which one of your OCs would be the best dancer? - Calypso Fuchsia, in any incarnation.39. Introduce any character you want. - This is Paris. He dies!40. Any fond memories linked to your characters? Feel free to share! - I remember once when I legit had a dream of Calypsoâs first incarnation, which given her Engelbaum origins is really damn important to me and also really cool.41. Has anyone drawn fanart of your OCs? If yes, maybe show a picture or two here (remember sources & permissions!) - My âart for meâ tag is mainly made up of other peopleâs drawings of my OCs, with some exceptions. Some specifics Iâm gonna throw up here are this one of Potato by @zipbogmonster and this one of Jocelyn by @zootycutie.42. Which one of your OCs would be the most interested in Greek gods? - No idea. Probably Ivory Viridian even though Greece and thus Greek gods donât exist in his universe, just because he really likes learning about lots of different subjects.43. Do you have any certain type when you create your OCs? Do you tend to favour some certain traits or looks? Itâs time to confess. - Not really, if I gotta be honest. I try to keep my designs at least somewhat varied. I really like working with bright colors in general, though, so a lot of my characters are dressed in bright colors.44. Something you like about your OCs in general - I just like how theyâre all really different, even those that belong in the same universe and even hang out together.45. A character you no longer use? - Shooting Star Runner, a fancharacter for Homestar Runner. She was supposed to be Homestarâs sister and was magical for some reason. I still use her in a long-running RP with a friend but outside of that I havenât done anything with her.46. Has anyone ever told you that you treat your OCs badly? - No? Though sometimes I feel like I am, and I try to balance that out with good things afterward.47. Has anyone ever (friendly) claimed any of your OCs as their child? - Donât think anyone has, honestly.48. OC who is a perfect cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure? - Emmie.49. Which one of your OCs would most likely enjoy memes? - ...Not really sure. ^^;50. Give me the good olâ OC talk here. Talk about anything you want. - Oxford Duke is blatantly and unapologetically an homage to Jareth from Jim Hensonâs Labyrinth, and David Bowie in general. >:3c
(character list for anyone wanting to attach names to faces that they donât already know)(question list)

hate meme: harry james potter, abed nadir, freddie lounds & santana lopez? ^.^
âsend me literally anything and ill tell you something i hate about itâ
abed nadir
sometimes got too much attention and/or narrative forgiveness
like? abed is one of my favorite male fictional characters, period, and he means a lot to me because heâs one of the only examples of GOOD autistic spectrum representation in fiction, and i know that dan harmon and the writers loved him a lot (and for that, i donât blame them)
but look at troyâs last episode in season five (the one where they had a massive, school-wide game of, âthe floor is lavaâ before troy left to sail around the world with levar burton, but abed tried to drag it out forever, at the expense of literally everyone else, because he didnât want troy to go)
for one thing: on the in-universe level, abed dragged the entire population of greendale into this game and kept dragging it out without regard for the gameâs effects on anyone else (and people were getting hurt, greendaleâs ability to function as a school â even by greendale standards â was pretty much dead, and abed was totally fine with that)
and he massively disregarded troyâs agency in the whole matter (because he lied to troy about the purpose of the game; britta, for all her many faults, is the one who went, âuh, troy, abed is screwing with everyone to keep you at greendaleâ) â and this was all cast not just as sympathetic, but as ultimately more or less okay, because abed only did it because he loves troy so much and heâs terrified of both change and losing his best friend
which *is* sympathetic, and i feel abed on both counts, but that doesnât make what he did okay???
for another thing: on the meta-level, troyâs last episode wound up being more about abed than it was about troy. like, this was going to be the last time we got to see troy at greendale and he did have an arc in the episode, but his arc was subordinated for the sake of an abed-focused ep
and if they were trying to have a âtroy and abedâ focused ep, thenâŚ
1. troyâs last episode was really not the time for that; abed shouldâve been a secondary focus, at most
2. they did not succeed, in terms of foregrounding the troy/abed relationship, because they approached troy and abed individually, rather than looking at their relationship, and they didnât go back to the relationship enough to make it work (like in the âpillows and blanketsâ two-parter)â¨
3. there wasnât a balance between troy and abed like the one you had in the âpillows and blanketsâ two-parter, or like the abed/shirley balance in âmessianic myths and ancient peoplesâ or like the jeff/shirley balance in âfoosball and nocturnal vigilantismâ (or basically any jeff/shirley episode; they usually balanced pretty well, without either overtaking the other)
so, yeah. i love abed, but ffs. making him the showâs pet was really not good for anybody. to be fair, i would also say that annie suffered from this at least as much as abed did, so itâs not like abed was alone in this â but it really sticks out in a series that otherwise tried to be good about balancing its ensemble cast and challenging the typical protagonist-centered worldviews you see in most sitcoms
harry james potter
itâs less about him, exactly, and more about how tumblr fandom has taken to handling his status as a survivor of horrific childhood abuse and a few metric fuck-tons of trauma (but tbf, i think most of these answers fall into the heading of, âitâs less about the character, more about X thing in contexts surrounding them,â so)
which isnât even exclusive to harry, because the hp fandom is totally bogus about handling abuse culture in general, and itâs rife with all kinds of double standards
âlike, on the one hand, sirius attempts to commit a very premeditated murder by proxy, and even though the proxy is remus and he wouldâve suffered for it more than sirius bc heâs a werewolf and the murder would have happened on the full moon, this is apparently totally 5,000% acceptable because sirius has abusive parents and the intended victim is snape
but on the other hand, you are victim-blaming, abuse apologist garbage if you think that severus is justified in never forgiving james and sirius even if his actions based on that were mostly in the wrong, or thinking that he had every right to fight back against james and sirius when they tormented him in school
(and never mind that james potter was not, at that time in his life, a victim of fucking anything. he is a wealthy, pureblooded man who came from a loving, supportive family, and is canonically regarded as both straight and white
TO BE FAIR, he is also never specified as being white, like voldemort, lucius, and draco all are â and as other readers have noted elsewhere, the way the dursleys talk about james/lily is heavily racialized, despite being about him being a wizard, in the text â so poc!james is one of the, âjkr didnât say itâs not canon, so it could beâ type of headcanons
but heâs also never said to be a poc, so thatâs fanon
moreover, it canât be treated as canon in order to make it out like jamesâs years of bullying snape were anything but a guy who is canonically privileged in every way that he can possibly be privileged in jkrâs universe bullying another kid who does not have most of jamesâs privileges [heâs male, a halfblood â less privileged than purebloods but more privileged than muggleborns â and heâs canonically regarded as straight and white; thatâs it on the, âprivileges that snape has in jkrâs universeâ front]
âbut hey, if itâs fair game to bring up all of the racialized coding in how the dursleys talk about james by way of trying to ignore the fact that jkr treats him as white in canon, then how about letâs remember all the antisemitic coding in how jkr writes about severus, even though she doesnât outright say that heâs jewish: source (nb: this post was written in 2005, the author didnât have dh), source, source, source, source, source
and oh, never mind how james flat-out says that he bullies severus, âmore [because of] the fact that he exists, if you know what i meanâ [ootp 647]
and never mind how plenty of the people who act like severus was obligated to forgive james and sirius have reblogged things about how nobody is ever obligated to forgive their abusers, and/or condemn him for fighting back while applauding when hermione punches draco [which i say without judging them bc sheâs fighting back against a blood purist little snot who torments her and her friends for fun, and i love that moment too], like??
ffs, guys, you can criticize and/or condemn snapeâs actions without acting like he was terrible because he saw no reason to forgive james and sirius for what they did to him, or acting like it was Totally Wrong Forever for him to fight back against the guys who meant he didnât even get a reprieve from his abusive, neglectful home-life at school bc they decided to torment him, and they had classmates who thought it made them cool)
furthermore, itâs apparently soooo totally not siriusâs fault that he abuses kreacher because heâs stuck in grimmauld place and lashing out against his abusive parents because kreacher still loves themâŚâŚ or so say people who are otherwise happy to call out the wizarding world for having this institutionalized and magically reinforced system of slavery, which i guess doesnât matter when sirius âcinnamon roll uwu~â black is the person abusing that system to get away with his bullshit and explicitly abusive treatment of another sentient beingâ
which all goes back to harry because of how abuse culture ends up rearing its ugly head in how people discuss him as a survivor
like, apart from the double standards that all fandoms have toward abuse culture and survivors, there are two big sides that iâve seen, in this trend.
on one hand, you have the people who want harry being a survivor to excuse him of things like trying to use the cruciatus curse (and successfully using it on amycus in dh!) or similar
on the other hand, there was the shit like what you saw after âcursed childâ first came out, where people were going, âomg but harry is an abuse survivor, he would NEVER say/do anything like this to his kids everâ â whichâŚâŚ uh?
no. not how it works.
even ignoring the irl psychology parts related to abuse and survivors of it, jkr has two big models of abusers in the series:
people who are over-privileged af and bully down because they fucking can and who the fuck is really going to stop them (draco, bellatrix, the dursleys, bartemius crouch sr., umbridge, tom-mort voldingdong, albus dumbledore, and oh yeah, james and sirius);
and people who have been hurt by others before and lash out at others because of it, to the point of becoming abusers themselves (severus, sirius, barty crouch jr., peter pettigrew, arguably albus and tom-mort have shades of this as well but itâs very debatable, and if ginny, and remus actually crossed the line into abusive, rather than being, âwell, theyâre not abusers, but they have these examples of behaviors that could become patterns that went this way,â theyâd both be on this list too, but since they donât, theyâre only getting mentioned)
(she has three big models if we include, âabusers who are not recognized as abusers in the text because she didnât feel like it today i guessâ â which mostly means the weasley parents, but other characters definitely have moments of doing shit that shouldâve been called out and wasnât, c.f. harry running around and trying to cast the cruciatus curse, hermione keeping rita skeeter in a mason jar and hexing the signup parchment at the DA, hagrid trying to attack dudley and turn him into a pig over shit that vernon said and dudley trying to eat harryâs birthday cake, fred and george full stop)
so, yeah, uh
idk guys, how about letâs NOT invalidate abuse survivors in fandom by perpetuating these ideas that survivors are and/or have to be perfect cinnamon rolls, while all abusers ever in the world are these ridiculous slobbering caricatures of all things terrible
thatâs not how it works
acting like thatâs how it works ends up helping police survivors and invalidate their experiences because it plays into things like the idea that all abusers are obviously abusive, which leads to real-world survivors having a harder time being believed when they try to reach out for help
which makes it all a function of abuse culture
if you really care about survivors â and if you really care about harry as a survivor â then donât use his status as a survivor to make shit harder for irl survivors, period
freddie lounds
i guess this is more of a problem with how freddie was written tbh
but, likeâŚâŚ true, nbc!hannibal avoided being absolute about most things even more than hannibal himself avoids vegetarian recipes
the most absolutism you really got was, âmurder is generally wrong, like. killing in self-defense is one thing, but even if youâre trying to get ingratiated with a cannibalistic serial killer again in the name of stopping him (william), murder is probably going to be wrong so you should, likeâŚâŚ not do that, iâm just sayingâ and, âeating people is wrong unless hannibal didnât tell you that you were eating people, in which case it is still wrong but itâs his fault, not yoursâ
all of which is stuff that the show doesnât really get any cookies for taking a stand on because, âin 99.999% of cases, murder is wrong and should be avoidedâ isâŚâŚ not really a unique or groundbreaking moral sentiment
like, itâs one of the beliefs you find in, as far as i know, every human civilization all over the world, throughout history
(there are, of course, differences of opinion on how to punish murderers, and there are exceptions made for people who get around the law by being wealthy and powerful, or by virtue of having some form(s) of societal privilege [e.g., whiteness, or straightness in the case of the, âgay panicâ defense], or all of the old arguments about how killing someone during a time of war isnât a murder and therefore doesnât count, and then there are all of the semantic debates about, âare all killings inherently murders or whatâ
âbut still. most people tend to agree that murdering other people is generally wrong.)
but yeah, uh
one place where i wouldâve liked a little less ambiguity is freddieâs relationship with and feelings toward abigail
like, i wouldnât have needed her to suddenly develop an increased amount of sympathy toward other victims â whether in general, or even just specifically, âother victims of hannibal lecter,â and given how he treated her on multiple occasions, itâs pretty ridiculous to just expect her ever stop being a pain in willâs ass (i mean, even when she wasnât in the right, which was most of the time, some of how will treated her was unhelpful to everyone and in the realm of, âyes, i get where youâre coming from but this still wasnât coolâ)
âbut with abigail specifically, the show sort of went back and forth between, âfreddie is genuinely interested in helping abigail and does have some kind of regard for her as a personâ and, âfreddie is just out for herself and only using abigail and her trauma to further her own career,â which was all further complicated by the fact that pretty much no one on nbc!hannibal was a reliable narrator about anything, for any number of reasons
like, beverly probably came the closest before she got totally fridged for no good reason, but even she wound up hindered by the fact that hannibal was manipulating the evidence and playing everyone around him like a really overpriced theremin
and idk
i think the best âcompromiseâ or interpretation here wouldâve been, like⌠âfreddie starts out just trying to advance her career because thatâs just how she does things in general, but eventually, she did come to genuinely care for abigail as a person and to genuinely want to help her, which would explain things like why will was open to working with freddie against hannibal in season two, since he may not have trusted her in general, but he would trust her to want to take down the man whom they thought killed abigail (even though she was secretly still alive, at that point)â
but the show itself was never really clear on that, and itâs like
okay, guys, i donât think you need to spell out absolutely everything, and i realize that a certain degree of ambiguity in most situations and with almost all of the characters is part of your #Aesthetic
but this would be an example of you once again screwing over the characters who are not named will and/or hannibal, especially since I got a feeling like itâs less that you were leaving things vague on the, âfreddie and abigailâ front, and more that you just didnât really care to figure things out about this part of freddieâs character
soâŚâŚâŚ yeah
santana lopez
okay, i donât blame her for wanting artie out of the way when he was dating brittany back in season 2 because lmao, i did too, but for starters, artie wouldnât have been dating brittany if santana hadnât blown her off in the first place
âwhich isnât #Problematic in terms of her character development becauseâŚâŚ uh, well yeah, that was the point. santana created the problem by blowing brittany off and trying to convince herself that she was âtotally straight, except sometimes scissoring with brittany, lmao feelings are totally pointless and should be hated and santana doesnât have themâ and it was part of the story of her coming to accept herself as a lesbian
but it was kind of, âummmâŚâ-inducing that she⌠never actually had to accept her own responsibility for brittany/artie happening, like
first, in the duets episode, she tried to meddle and break them up by going, âbrittanyâs just using you for the free dinner at breadstix lmaoâ â which she succeeded in, because brittany and artie didnât even sing (though they both still voted for themselves in the, âwho should winâ bit at the end) â and santana apparently thought that was it
tbf, itâs not like she could foresee puck and artie bonding, and puck trying to ââhelpââ artie get back with brittany by being so thoroughly himselfâŚâŚ but then brittany and artie were back on, and santanaâs response was to manipulate brittany into cheating on him by going, âitâs not cheating bc weâre both girlsâ and expecting brittany to just go along with it
then, brittany calls her on that in âsexyâ â inasmuch as brittany got a chance to do back then â and santana only accepts responsibility for anything in the sense of, âokay, brittany wants me to get more in touch with my feelings and admit that i do love her because that is how i fucked up beforeâ
she doesnât look at brittanyâs relationships with other people, or at brittanyâs feelings about anything but santana and the current state of their relationship + how it might go in the future, and so on â and this is another example of a situation where santana is presented as being sympathetic but still in the wrong, and brittany calls her on it, and itâs part of her overall growth in the end
but we never really address the manipulation in telling brittany, âitâs not cheating because weâre both girlsâ (which, by glee standards, is not that bad, and tbf, brittany and artie werenât perfect angels in any of this, either, since artie was pretty ableist to brittany even before the, âhow can you be so stupid, brittany!â âyou were the only one in this school who never said that to me!â moment in the fleetwood mac episode, and brittany had her own manipulative moments with both artie and santana
âbut it still kinda bugged me that santana had an opportunity to grow and learn more about using her capacity for manipulation for good, and itâŚâŚ didnât really go anywhere?
and you can tell that she didnât learn about manipulating brittany â at least not until way later down the line â because a few episodes later, sheâs plotting to use dave to win prom queen bc she thinks she can then go on to convince britt-britt that sheâd made a royal decree that brittany had to be her girlfriend)
finally, santana was really ableist toward artie throughout the entire brittany/artie arc
âŚâŚand beforehand.
âŚâŚâŚâŚand afterward.
âŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚand just in general, even without brittany needing to be involved, because to be fair, this was just one part of a larger overall pattern of ableist bullshit on gleeâs part, of which artie wasnât even the only victim (he was just one of the most notable ones because he was one of the only canonically disabled characters)
so, itâs like? yeah, santana said pretty ableist shit about artie, on a pretty regular basis â the âstubbles mc-cr*pple-pantsâ nickname is one example iâll never forget
âand yeah, she said offensive things to basically everyone else on the show (c.f., calling rachel, âyentlâ; calling mercedes, âwheezyâ; taking her internalized homophobia out on kurt, not in the scenes like, âkurt and blarren sing about how much they love each other all over santanaâs pain over being forcibly outed because thatâs so what she needed to hear right now, stfu both of youâ or in fairly going, âhey, shut up and quit judging MY wedding to brittany as a bad life choice just because YOU couldnât make it work with blarrenâ but in all the smaller instances that you barely even notice at first; taking her internalized homophobia out on dave even while asking him to help her win prom queen/blackmailing him into it; list goes on)
but the ableist shit she said to artie sticks out to me, in particular, bc santanaâs other examples of this behavior were generally cast as, âsheâs witty and outrageous, yes, but you should really probably not actually say things like this, itâs asshole behavior on her part,â while the shit she said to artieâŚâŚ kinda didnât
not because the ableist shit she said to artie didnât get called out
(bc lbr, most of the things that santana ever said didnât get, âcalled outâ
it got shown to be Not Cool bc it would get associated with people getting upset with her
or it would sound too much like Sue [who is almost always in the wrong, so sounding like her is something that you generally want to avoid]
or it would be used to show that santana is being selfish and rude even without it being called out [like when she called mercedes, âwheezyâ before going, âwe donât have to like each other, letâs sing a duet together and win that free dinner at breadstixâ]
or it would otherwise have some kind of repercussions
âbut it probably wouldnât get, âcalled outâ as such, outside of REALLY big exceptions, like how they used, âwell, but santana was bullying himâ as a justification for finn getting her outed, whenâŚâŚ yes, her bullying him was wrong but these things are not the same
or the bit in, âsilly love songsâ where oher glee club kids [in order: finn, lauren, puck, quinn, tina, and rachel] bite back at santana over insulting them)
but her ableist shit toward artie sticks out because the show always kinda seemed toâŚâŚ not agree with santana about it, exactly, since her saying it was still narratively seen as Not Cool?
but it seemed to give her a half-pass because plenty of the other characters who werenât physically disabled expressed similar feelings about artie and his disability, just with less vitriol (e.g., puck, who even got to be friends with artie but still said ableist shit; he just wasnât actively trying to be mean like santana was)
or they tried really hard to make it sound like, âwell, this is just commonsense and how things are, what can you doâ (e.g., MOST of them, back in season 1âs âwheels,â where rachel was pretty vitriolic in her ableist nonsense, but not directly at artie
âlike, she was one of the, âbut this is just how things are, donât take it personallyâ when talking to him, but then lumped schueâs, âall of you will spend this week in wheelchairs to learn about accessibility!â lesson plan in with him giving kurt a fair audition for the âdefying gravityâ solo when she had her little diva moment of, âmaybe someday, youâll find a way to create teaching moments without RUINING MY LIFEâ and then tried to storm out while still in a wheelchair)
which is all really less about santana herself, and more about how santana fit into the showâs overall patterns of ableism, but
iâm really hard-pressed to come up with something that i actually hate about santana, which is why hers is the longest answer (bc i had to dig deep and bullshit my way through it, oops)
(harryâs is closest in length but thatâs because i had an actual point to make; by my standards, his answer is pretty short)

Lost Heart: Chapter 1
Nathalie: Part 1
Magic can be a dangerous thing to play around with, particularly when that magic is tangled up in a curse. When Nathalie Sancoeur experiments with magic that she doesn't fully understand, it sends her on a path to become Paris' most dangerous supervillain and tips the balance between superheroes and supervillain.
But which way will the balance fall?
(links in the reblog)
(also this is canon divergence and only takes earlier s3 episodes into account because Reasons.)
Nathalie had not planned on becoming a supervillain at any point in her life.
It wasn't in her twelve-point life plan, nor on her bulletpoint list of things she wanted to do before she died. She didn't have I want to be a supervillain written down as something she wanted to do in any of the daily planner-style journals that she had kept, starting as a child and continuing on through her teenage years, or on any of the career-planning sheets that she had filled out over the years. It wasn't even included in a footnote.
No, becoming a supervillain was a complete deviation from the plan, one that could land her in serious trouble and completely derail her life plans if she were ever caught. But Gabriel Agreste seemed sure that they wouldn't get caught, and it wasn't as though she was ever actually venturing out into the open to fight. Instead, on the rare occasions that she donned the Peacock Miraculous and joined Gabriel, they were up in the lair, hidden from the rest of the world and protected by the best home defense system that money could buy.
If she actually had to venture out and face the superheroes head-on, Nathalie didn't think she could do it. It wasn't so much the fighting that bothered her- she did have a purple belt in karate, after all, even if she hadn't actually practiced it at all for a couple years- but rather the possibility of being overpowered and losing her Miraculous, which would then lead to jail time at the very least. That was what would frighten her.
It wasn't as though being a supervillain came without consequences already, even without her getting caught. It took away time from her workday, of course, which meant that she wasn't quite as on top of things as normal, and then there were the effects of the curse on the Peacock Miraculous: the illness, the sickness, the weakness, whatever you wanted to call it.
The awful, awful weakness. It forced Nathalie to take several hours off to recover each time she used the cursed Miraculous. The curse also meant that she couldn't use it more than once a week at the very most. Nathalie hated both the feeling of weakness and the restrictions that the curse imposed on her, but it was the price that she had to pay for helping Gabriel.
And, more importantly, for helping Emilie. Emilie, who had been dropped into a magical coma while using the same miraculous that Nathalie was using now. It was a dire warning for what might happen if Nathalie over-used the Miraculous in an attempt to help sway the outcome of an akuma attack before she was ready to transform again. She had seen Emilie's bouts of weakness after transforming, and how they had gotten gradually worse over time. Emilie had been at least a little tired all the time near the end, even if she had managed to hide most of it from Adrien and Gabriel.
Nathalie didn't want to end up like that, applying makeup constantly to cover up pale cheeks and dark shadows under her eyes. So she was picky about which akumas she decided to help with, waiting until it was obvious that an akuma would actually be a difficult opponent for Ladybug and Chat Noir before she transformed and sent in another helper.
Over the course of the past month and a half of helping Gabriel, Nathalie had come to the realization that he did not make a lot of good akumas. Most of them were dispatched by the superheroes easily enough, some even under the span of ten minutes. Most had fairly pointless superpowers, ones that didn't even deter Ladybug and Chat Noir. Some had been repeated so many times with no changes that everyone in Paris knew how things were going to play out. It made the job of choosing which akuma villains to accompany much easier, but really. It was not impressive.
Sometimes Nathalie wondered if Gabriel was even trying. Surely he would have discovered something different to try by now, some improvement that would get him consistently better akumas. Nathalie was pretty sure that if she were in Gabriel's shoes, she would have already tried a variety of different techniques and found some way of improving the process. Still, it wasn't her place to say that.
So she continued her job as normal, waiting patiently for an opportunity to help as Mayura, the city's newest permanent supervillain. It was for the greater good, she told herself. All Gabriel wanted was his wife back, and getting that wouldn't hurt anyone. All it would be was a little alteration to the timeline, a tiny nudge that would make all the difference for the family.
Nathalie hoped that one day, that excuse would actually ring entirely true to her, too.
The sound of the front door opening and the unmistakable pattern of Adrien's footsteps entering the atrium startled Nathalie out of her stupor as she stared blankly at the pile of contracts that she was meant to be reading through. She frowned in confusion- wasn't Adrien meant to still be at school?- before checking the clock and startling when she saw what it said.
Aha. Apparently she had just really lost track of time, which was generally unusual but in this case it was understandable, really. There had been a strong akuma earlier that afternoon, and she had ended up getting involved. It was so hard to figure how much time had passed when she was transformed and involved in a battle- there were more important things to pay attention to, after all- and once it was over, she was too utterly drained to pay attention to what time it was.
Or ever to pay attention to the contracts that she normally breezed through with ease.
The footsteps reminded her that here had been something that Nathalie had been meant to do when Adrien got home, and for a second she wracked her brain, trying to remember what it was. After far too long- her mind wasn't meant to work this slowly, it felt rather like trying to think after pulling an all-nighter and then staying up for the entire day- she remembered and got up as quickly as she could, reaching for her tablet across the desk and nearly losing her balance in the process.
Ah, yes, that was right. Adrien had had a makeup photoshoot scheduled after it turned out that a number of pictures from a previous shoot had turned out unusable- not his fault so much as his fans', since several of them had evidently felt the need to crowd in enough that the photographer hadn't been able to avoid them. She needed to let him know right away, because he would have to have a light snack and get started on his homework before the shoot.
"Adrien!" Nathalie called as she stepped into the atrium, her voice (and legs) a little less steady than normal, and she frowned to herself and cleared her throat before trying again. "Adrien! One moment, please. There's been a change to your schedule!"
She could see Adrien's shoulders slump as he came to a stop at the top of the stairs and turned back to face her. When he did, though, he frowned. "Nathalie? Are you feeling all right?"
"I didn't get quite enough sleep last night, that's all," Nathalie said dismissively, waving the hand not holding the tablet. Adrien's frown deepened at that, and Nathalie tried not to wince at the terrible, terrible excuse she had come up with. People didn't usually stumble over their own feet and look like they were on the verge of falling over just because they hadn't slept as well as usual the previous night. She needed to work on her excuses, especially as she would probably have to be using them on a frequent basis. Perhaps she would have to think up an illness to blame for her occasional weaknesses. That would be something to research once she got a little more caught up on her work, which⌠well, it wasn't happening today. "And I'm perhaps a little peckish. But I'll be fine, I'll just have to have a small snack. But that's not what I wanted to let you know- you have an emergency photoshoot this evening, so the chef has prepared a snack for you in the dining room and then you'll need to get started on your homework. They've estimated the shoot will take between two and two and a half hours."
The drop in Adrien's expression at the news was almost entirely hidden, but he nodded anyway. "Okay. Thank you, Nathalie."
"I'll come fetch you when it's time," Nathalie promised, hoping that she would have improved by then. If she stumbled in front of Adrien again or showed any sign of having trouble with the stairs, he would be popping into the office unexpectedly all the time to check in on her. Any other time it would be sweet, but Nathalie knew that if Adrien found out about his father's supervillain activities, he would be heartbroken. She couldn't let that happen. "You have two hours before departure."
"Thank you, Nathalie."
Nathalie nodded and headed back into the office as steadily as she could, wobbling dangerously as soon as she was out of Adrien's sight. Gabriel was by her side in a second, steadying her and closing the door behind her.
"You shouldn't have come out today," he told her with a frown as he walked her back to her desk. "It was too soon after last time, I can tell. You needed a week and a half's recovery at the very least, if you're going to insist on transforming."
"It was too good of an akuma to pass up on." Nathalie welcomed the relief of settling back into her chair. It was easier to focus on keeping up appearances when she wasn't busy focusing all of her energy into trying not to fall over. "Emilie never was this ill at the start, I thought."
"The threat she faced came less often. She had plenty of time to recover between transformations." Gabriel made sure that she was settled before withdrawing to a respectable distance. "At least until the effects started building up too much. But that was after years of use."
Nathalie nodded, trying to keep her eyes from drifting closed as she sat back. She only vaguely remembered the threat that Emilie had rallied against, something about a tear between dimensions that had to be fought back. It was a hazy memory- or a hazy set of memories, really, blurred by the set of the Peacock's powers that Emilie had used to keep Paris from being consumed by paranoia. She suspected that she only remembered anything at all because she was close to the family and- if her memory served her correctly- she had been the one to accept the feather during each of Emilie's fights, giving shape to the Peacock's Protector so it could fight evil.
How ironic that now, she and Gabriel were being the bad guys. At least, they were the bad guys in the eyes of Paris.
"And I think she had found some way to lessen the effects from the transformation, but she never told me what it was," Gabriel continued with a frown. "That was- that was why she pushed too far. She thought that she had found a solution to the problem, and she was overconfident and used too much power to force a final solution to the fight."
Nathalie hadn't known that. She had just thought that Emilie had recognized her gradual deterioration and had decided that she needed to end the threat for good before she couldn't continue at all. And she had managed that, at least, but the cost had been so high.
Adrien hadn't even known for the first couple days. Gabriel had kept himself shut up in the office as he tried to find any sort of immediate solution, and Nathalie had kept running Adrien's lessons as usual, shuffling the tutors in and out on schedule. It was only once Gabriel had determined that there would be no immediate solution and Adrien was asking too many questions about where his parents were that he had been told.
"Take two weeks minimum before transforming again," Gabriel ordered. "You need to recover fully so that the effects don't start adding up more than usual."
"Of course, sir."
"And I'll fetch Adrien when it's time for his photoshoot. You stay here and rest."
Nathalie smiled. That was a relief. She would recover a large bit of her energy in the time between now and when Adrien needed to be called down, but right now she was pretty sure that she wouldn't be able to hide how shaky she was on the stairs. "Thank you."
They went back to work, Nathalie sipping at the hot tea that the chef had brought up for her. Her focus wasn't entirely there, she could tell, so she focused on the easier paperwork that she could do in her sleep.
If she made a huge mistake on some important paperwork and cost the company a lot of money because she was feeling the effects of becoming a supervillain, Nathalie would never be able to live with herself.
A light ding from her tablet pulled her out of her work a while later, and Nathalie glanced over at it. A small alert had popped up. "It's time for Adrien to go."
Gabriel sighed and got up. "Yes, of course. I'll go alert him."
Nathalie flashed him a grateful smile as she went back to work. Two minutes later, she was interrupted again by a quietly seething Gabriel.
"He was wasting time on the Ladyblog," Gabriel practically snarled as he shut the door again and stalked back to his desk. "Staring all gooey-eyed at some picture of Ladybug."
Nathalie only winced. She had known about Adrien's hero crush on Ladybug before and hadn't mentioned it to Gabriel because she knew that he would react badly. In her opinion, though, Gabriel was overreacting just a bit. It really should have been expected that Adrien might look up to the superheroes, as most of the city did. He had no idea that the superheroes were keeping him from getting his mom back. It was all harmless.
Besides, if nothing else, knowing that there was no way that Adrien's adoration of Ladybug would actually get anywhere should take the sting out of the discovery that Adrien liked his father's arch-enemy.
"I should block it," Gabriel muttered, still scowling. "Then he wouldn't waste his time staring at pictures of Ladybug."
"That might appear a bit suspicious, sir," Nathalie reminded him. "Besides, you use the Ladyblog, too, and Adrien could always access the site on his phone."
Gabriel's scowl grew deeper and he muttered something under his breath before getting back to work.
Nathalie tried not to sigh as she went back to work, she really did. Gabriel might have always said that his wife was dramatic, but honestly?
He was just as bad.
Adrien had caught on to her exhaustion. Nathalie had to be more careful, or else he might get curious about her mysterious illness and end up finding out more than he was meant to.
The day after Adrien had seen her at her weakest, she found a box of tea that promised to help with sleep sitting on her desk. Three days after, she found a large bag of peppermints tucked in her bag. Adrien was giving her nervous glances whenever she wasn't completely on top of things like normal, and it was unnerving.
Nathalie was glad that Gabriel had put a ban on transforming for two weeks. With the chance to recover fully- well, to recover as much as she could with her connection to the Peacock still under a curse- she shouldn't be as affected by her next transformation. And if she let Gabriel deal with any interactions with Adrien right after her future transformations so that she could hide the weakness, like Emilie had, then Adrien would hopefully forget that he had seen anything odd.
Still, it was infuriating to be sidelined after they had seemed to be making some decent progress. If she had been able to use the Miraculous properly- if the curse had dissipated after Emilie fell into a coma, or if she weren't so freaking affected by the curse, more so that Emilie had been after any individual transformation - then they could have used the extra powers in every fight, pushing hard and taking advantage of the surprise that the extra player caused before Ladybug and Chat Noir figured out how to quickly and effectively dispose of or work around the extra threat.
If they could have gotten one of the other Miraculous- the turtle, fox, or bee- during the fight on Heroes Day (or, admittedly, during any other fight), then she could have used that and the Peacock would be held back as backup, an unpleasant surprise for the superheroes some day. Of course, that would have required that Nathalie get her hands dirty and actually go out to join the fight herself- which was less than ideal- but feeling ill to the point of collapse was even less ideal, so she would have dealt with the danger that came with going outside.
Nathalie felt better every day of her transformation ban, and she was surprised to realize just how bad the Miraculous had been making her feel. Still, she knew that she would have to use it again, if she wanted to end this fight as soon as she could.
She would just have to be pickier about which battles she helped with going forward.
"I wish we had gotten farther with decoding the book and the scrolls," Gabriel commented one afternoon as he set aside his work to look at the Miraculous book. "If there had been anything in there about breaking curses, or at the very least getting around themâŚ"
"Would Emilie have had notes anywhere about what she had done?" Nathalie asked. "Or if you saw anythingâŚ"
"I always assumed that she had figured out some spell that was wearing down the curse," Gabriel admitted. "And then I looked through the notes of hers that I could find after- well, you know- and there was nothing about that." He scowled. "I know that she was meant to keep her superhero life as secret as possible, but still. Having notes somewhere would have been useful. She knew that things were going downhill, even if she wasn't letting on to anyone else."
Nathalie could only nod, her last hope for alleviating the symptoms from using the Peacock fading. If it had been a spell, there was no hope that they would stumble on the answer just by chance.
And Emilie had been using and studying the Peacock for years. They didn't have that time.
"I'll keep looking, though," Gabriel promised. "Though I can't let myself fall behind on Fashion Week. Can you add a- hmm. Maybe an hour of research time each day to my schedule for this week, then dropping down to half an hour for the remaining weeks running up to the runway?"
Nathalie snagged a pencil and paper and wrote that down on her to-do list. "Right away, sir."
It was interesting how little Nathalie joining Gabriel as a supervillain changed their day-to-day dynamic. Perhaps it was because she had known about him being Hawkmoth and had helped him keep that secret from Adrien and the rest of the household staff from the start. She had been a supervillain's assistant before, but now she was just a supervillain's assistant who had superpowers (occasionally) herself. But even though she was helping on more equal footing- even though she had actually saved Gabriel from losing his Miraculous on Heroes Day- they had continued on the same way. He never asked for her advice on how they could mix things up and trip up the superheroes.
Nathalie was starting to consider writing up a twelve-point plan in PowerPoint format to present to Gabriel, just to get the conversation started. Of course, he would need to share more information about the Miraculous with her- Nathalie knew that there was a lot that he was keeping to himself, things that could be utilized in their plan if she just knew about it- before she could make an effective plan.
Mid-afternoon, Gabriel got up without a word and headed up to the lair to transform. Nathalie flipped on the intercom that she had just installed up there- she had spent an entire afternoon trying to figure out how to get that set up and ensure that none of the other intercom systems in the house would accidentally pick up any communications from what she had (privately) dubbed the 'Supervillain Intercom'- and pulled up several tabs to track the akuma attack.
All out of habit, of course. She wasn't ready to transform again, not yet.
Seven minutes later, Nathalie's feeds lit up with news of a dish-flinging akuma on the opposite side of Paris. Judging by the craters that it was making in the buildings, streets, and the unfortunate cars that the dishes hit, they carried a lot more force than anyone would initially think. People fled, most of them making it on time.
Some didn't. Nathalie cringed away, trying not to look too closely at the images on-screen.
If Gabriel lost, Ladybug would fix it. If Gabriel won, the change to the timeline would completely erase the need for any Hawkmoth or akumas, so they would be just fine.
That didn't mean that she wanted to see it. Maybe that made her soft and not fit for supervillainry, but that was why she liked the Miraculous that Gabriel had. They were long distance and didn't force her to get her hands dirty during the attacks.
She went back to work, occasionally glancing up at the feeds. All of the reporters had retreated to a safe distance, so there wasn't super close coverage of the fight. There were occasional flashes of home video, taken by people inside of their homes.
The akuma was getting closer to Adrien's school.
Nathalie reached over to her new intercom and pressed the button "Sir, the akuma is getting close to the school."
"It won't go inside," Hawkmoth replied almost immediately. "And the students will retreat into the hallways if the classrooms are too dangerous."
Nathalie scowled. Still. It wasn't safe.
After several minutes of being gone, Ladybug and Chat Noir plunged back into the fray, recharged and ready to fight. Five minutes later, the akuma was defeated. Nathalie sighed in relief- a very large chunk of school building had crumbled in the fight- and went back to work.
It had been a good, strong akuma, but it should have taken the fight elsewhere. If they had gotten onto one of the bridges over the Seine, perhaps the fight would have gone better. There would be nowhere for Ladybug and Chat Noir to hide there, and fewer things that Ladybug could use to swing around. If parts of the bridge got destroyed and the superheroes were thrown into the Seine, so be it. They always seemed to be a little disoriented after a dunking, and a decent akuma could take advantage of that.
MaybeâŚ.maybe she could start writing up notes like that. That way, if Gabriel ever had the chance to reakumatize those people, he could maybe have a better outcome to the fight. There would be an analysis on what could be done better, tweaks to the design that Gabriel could attempt to put in, maybe some examples of what strengths the akuma had that hadn't been fully exploited.
It was an idea. Something she could do without even transforming, while she was waiting to recover enough to be able to transform again. Maybe it would help them form a plan of attack for the future, if they could ever manipulate the situation so that Gabriel would be able to pick and choose who to akumatize or if someone ever became available again by chance. They could build upon their earlier work, ironing out the wrinkles in the fights and eliminating the slip-ups and flaws that had been the akuma's downfall the first time around. Nathalie already had some ideas, some weaknesses that the superheroes had that could be exploited and strategies that Gabriel had yet to try.
No, being a supervillain hadn't ever been part of Nathalie's plan, and yet here she was. And now that she had started, Nathalie was committed to doing the best job she could. She would be the most efficient supervillain that she could be, and hopefully soon enough the Agreste family would be back together.
Nathalie could only cross her fingers that things would go the way she hoped.
#Miraculous Ladybug#My writing#Lost Heart#adrien agreste#marinette dupain cheng#'reasons' can be summed up as 'I wrote this before the episodes aired and also I haven't watched them yet and didn't want to change stuff'

đ Check-in tag đ
Tagged by: @alteriiusâ <3 hi!
1. Why did you choose your url?
Icha has been my nickname online for a really long time and i try to keep it in my urls at least as âbrand recognizationâ i guess?? as for âarchivistâ, it was to have an url that was more fandom neutral than my previous ones. It is in reference to the bookman clan from dgm, who are archivists, since i always think fondly about dgm (and i did decide on the url when i was having long, long conversations about various Bookmen centric theories on my blog), but it serves double as itâs pretty generic and can just be my records there.
2. Any side-blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them.
have an inactive one for otome games that i used years ago but havenât touched since and i donât feel like linking it ahah. Otherwise i have âsideblogsâ that saves my past URLs (that i can use to save specific posts on in drafts).
3. How long have you been on tumblr?
I joined in huh. Late 2011 i think?? all i remember is that i have been here a few months before the first Mi//shapocalypse broke in April 2012. Tumblr veteran.
4. Do you have a queue tag?
Used to but not anymore.
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
oh man donât judge me i was 16 and it was 2011, but i used to follow h//arry p//otter fanpage on facebook and noticed they all came from here so eventually i decided to join it âto the sourceâ and well :/ here i am. Nowadays i canât even bear looking at h//p contents but here i am still smh.
6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
(btw your icon is amazing @alteriius <3) Aerith <3 because iâm having a ff7 rush again and i think Aerith is pretty neat. I love her a lot and i feel like the remake made her even more bubbling with life thanks to the HD stuff and i fell in love over and over again with her seeing her in the remake. And i mean, sheâs goal. This specific screenshot is just v pretty. Lately iâve been mostly using Hisoka from a3 as an icon though and i may return to it sooner than later, because i care him v much as well and identify with him a bit.Â
7. Why did you choose your header?
I just changed my header from the Spring chapter illustration from a3 which was them all napping together, that i had for the longest time bc i find it soft, to now just the troupe leaders in cat onesies, because i found this artwork yesterday and i love catboys. A3 charas are all precious to me iâm just happy to show them off yaknow?
8. Whatâs your post with the most notes?
*closes eyes and takes a deep breath* this post about FMA and the way each homunculus having an ironic death. it has over 25k notes now and it still gets notes regularly. If i had known it would have been this popular i would have toned down the cringey excitement i was showing because the reveal blew my mind - and would also have been more careful about some translation mistakes. but alas.Â
Else i have mostly shitposts being popular here and there or some liveblog posts that got too popular for no reason (that one post of my h//x//h liveblog that keeps coming back in my notes, my detested </3)
9. How many mutuals do you have?
No clue omg??? I am not checking the list. Probably a hundred though??? plus itâs hard to picture considering a lot of them are inactive.
10. How many followers do you have?
2,933. Most of them are inactive though, p sure i reached this number near huh 2018?? and itâs been stagnant ever since, from the followers loss and the influx of new followers (which is not really many but enough to balance out)
11. How many people do you follow?
614 blogs but yeah similar too many inactive bc i never cleaned it in the ten years iâve been here.
12. Have you ever made a shitpost?
Oh, plenty. The most i have done must have been in the dgm fandom and maybe ff7??Â
13. How often do you use tumblr each day?
These days my dash is pretty dead, so i mostly check it the morning and the evening to catch up on the day and check it out from time to time during the day.
14. Did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? Who won?
erg. Not really? nothing that i can think of, or at least not in public. Like, i had arguments with people i had met on tumblr but generally it was over discord. And idk if we can call any of those arguments winning... Itâs a question of disagreement or annoyance over how people treat each other and itâs been either things that broke friendships or that water under bridge could fix. Nothing conclusive and iâd hate to frame arguments as a win-or-lose situation.Â
15. How do you feel about âyou need to reblog thisâ posts?
hate them so much oh my god. They feel guilttripy and insulting a lot. And if not for me i would loath to put some guilt trip over people that follow me. People are willing to listen without having to make them feel bad about it. if i think the post has info that are very important i will still reblog it but i really loathe the idea of having to guilttrip to make a point come through.
16. Do you like tag games?
Theyâre fun! i just really forget to do them and i just donât like chain ones, those that are like, in reblogs? new posts or ask posts are fine but reblog chains of multiple tag games are generally stuff i avoid to not post a veeery long post on peopleâs dash
17. Do you like ask games?
oh yeah love them!
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
I can think of a few but iâm too lazy to @ them DJFDLKFJDL and most of them arenât people i talk to regularly enough to feel like i can cross that line of just @-ing them out of nowhere
19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?
Nah iâm good ahaÂ
20. Tags?
what if i donât want to tag anyone though ddlfjd anyone who wants to do it can act like i tagged them itâs fine.
here we go o7
Thank you for the tag Allen <3
