I used to work for a shipping company and we would send and receive thousands of packages each day. Customers could come by in the morning or afternoon to pick up their stuff.

The problem with this was that the front entrance on the main street was employee only, and we had a huge, and I mean HUGE, banner right next to the doorbell… Written in capital letters was the address of the adjacent street where the warehouse entry was located, along with a whole arrow point out the direction. Same building but different entry points.

Mind you, people kept ringing the doorbell and looked straight into the security cameras asking to be let in to pick up their packages. Every. Single. Time. Multiple times a day.

We would simply ask “sir/ma’am, do you see banner on your right? What does it say?”

So yeah, people hate reading or even paying attention to their immediate surroundings, moreover if there are letters involved.

I made these as a way to compile all the geographical vocabulary that I thought was useful and interesting for writers. Some descriptors share categories, and some are simplified, but for the most part everything is in its proper place. Not all the words are as useable as others, and some might take tricky wording to pull off, but I hope these prove useful to all you writers out there!
