Okay, this is super preliminary, but since we've been talking about zoo accessibility I wanted to launch a project I've been planning for a couple months.

One of the hardest things about visiting zoological facilities when disabled is the lack of knowledge ahead of time, right? Often the information on the zoo's website about accessibility doesn't contain everything folk need to know to plan a visit. I think we can probably help fix that, even if it's with just crowd-sourced knowledge!

This is a google spreadsheet for recording accessibility information for various zoos. It is super unfinished right now, FYI. That's partially because I need to fill in more of it from my own experiences, and partially because there are things I didn't note or experience - which I'd love for y'all to chime in about.

Categories for the spreadsheet so far include rentable assistance options, service dog information, accessible bathroom locations, mobility, vision, auditory and sensory issues (or accommodations), food allergy options, and general notes. I'm also including the information each zoo website provides, and guest assistance phone numbers, so all the information is in one place.

To add to this crowd-sourced zoo accessibility resource:

Send an ask to the blog, or comment on the appropriate cel on the spreadsheet (if the facility you want to comment on is already listed).

Provide the name of the zoo/aquarium/sanctuary and the approximate date you visited.

Tell me your experiences / information, and what categories they belong in.

Feel free to submit photos, if that's useful info! I'm going to see if I can find a way to host them and link in the spreadsheet.

I'll take information as it's submitted and integrate it into the sheet. If the zoo you've visited isn't on the list yet, I still want to add it! This resource is going to stay US-based, however. (I just don't have the capacity to manage an international one).

Obviously, I can't personally verify everything people submit, so this is very much a resource and not a definitive guide. Date stamps are crucial important for keeping track of what's recent and what might have been updated since someone visited.

Let's make zoo, aquarium, and sanctuary visits more accessible for everyone!

"why is everyone saying you're dating jude bellingham?" was the first thing i saw when i unlocked my phone. it was 10 pm in spain, but in singapore, where max was for this weekend's race, it would be around 4 am.

"you know how the internet is, mijn leeuw (my lion), don't pay attention to it," i replied. a few minutes passed, and there was no response. worry started to creep in. had i upset him too much?

just when i was about to overthink it, his video call lit up the screen. "are you coming to the race?" he asked, his tone flat. there was no trace of the smile i loved so much.

"are you mad at me?"

"no," he mumbled, more like a petulant child.

"baby, you know i can't control what people say online."

"i know. i just wish everyone knew you were mine."

"it was your idea to keep it a secret," i reminded him.

"well, i don't like that idea anymore."

i let out a nervous laugh, but his blue eyes, even through the screen, conveyed tiredness and something more. i was about to respond when jude appeared behind me. max's expression turned cold.

"are you ready?" jude asked me.

"ready for what?" max snapped, his voice filled with venom.

"we're going to celebrate real madrid's victory, is that okay?"

"whatever. i'll call you later," he said, and hung up before i could reply.

"i'm sorry, i didn't mean to cause any trouble," jude said, visibly uncomfortable.

"it's okay, don't worry about it. i'll see you downstairs, alright?"

i left max messages that he didn't answer, and now all my excitement for going out had vanished.

jude and i have been friends for a while now, it's funny how these rumors are popping up now. we've been trying to laugh it off, but now the situation is getting serious and i'm afraid it might affect my relationship with max.

lando showed him his phone. "she just posted something new." max felt a knot in his stomach. "everything's alright between you two, right?"

"yeah, it's just..." max ran a hand through his hair. "i wanted to keep things quiet for a while. you know how fans are." an involuntary smile appeared on his face as he thought of y/n. "sometimes i wish i could show her off to the world, have her come to races with me..."

"and what does she think about that?"

"i know she doesn't mind. in fact, she's told me she'd love to. but i wanted to protect her from the media circus."

lando nodded. "i know, and she knows too. just tell her you want to go public."

"i'll wait until she gets here. she's coming on saturday."

"alright, that's it. don't stress about her and jude. you know they're just friends."

max thanked lando and picked up his phone. as he dialed y/n's number, a sense of calm washed over him. he felt lucky to have someone like her and a friend like lando.

this weekend, y/n l/n was seen in the paddock alongside driver max verstappen sharing hugs and smiles very affectionately.

the influencer, who had been paired with footballer jude bellingham, clarified through her instagram that they were nothing more than just good friends.

on the other hand, y/n attended the singapore grand prix and was watching the race from the red bull motor home. but not only that, at the moment of the podium she and max shared a beautiful moment together and the driver, who had started the weekend off, looked happier than ever.

I recently had this link shared with me by one of my lovely friends here in the fandom, and found it so compelling that I wanted to share it with all of you.

This is a recent article from Vanity Fair about Cary Grant and Randolph Scott, both iconic actors from the era we now call "Old Hollywood," and it details their extremely interesting--both by the standards of the era and today--relationship. It's a long read, but more than worth it.

For those who may not know, Cary Grant was an English-born American actor and iconic leading man, and Randolph Scott was an American actor most known for appearing in Westerns. Both men were married to women/had children at varying points in their lives, but by some accounts (and especially what is chronicled in this article), they were the loves of each other's lives, even though being openly queer was next to impossible at the time, and would've been looked at as a career-ending (and maybe even life-ending) move.

There also seem to be quite a few parallels between Cary and Randolph 90 years ago and Michael and David today. The two men actually lived together for a number of years, during which the press of the day chose to portray them as "just two fun-loving bachelors waiting to find the right gal," all while Grant in particular starred in films with queer-flavored undertones that were both bold and downright dangerous in the era of the Hays Code. They continued living together when Grant was first married to his first wife, Virginia Cherrill (and after they divorced), and fun fact: While Grant was married, Scott moved right next door...so they were, in fact, neighbors.

Here are a few other excerpts that very much reminded me of Michael and David, for your consideration. (FYI that "Archie Leach" was Cary Grant's birth name before he changed it to his stage name.) This first one calls to mind the Radio Times calling Michael and David a "handsome couple" on the night of the NTAs in 2021:

This next one of course made me think of Michael and David talking on David's podcast (skip to the 1:25 mark) in 2019 about hating photo shoots and how Michael flat-out refused to answer questions at one point and only got through it because of David:

And this last one features a quote from a close friend about Grant and Scott that nearly made my heart skip an entire beat. For reasons that will soon be very, very obvious:

What is also remarkable about this article (though not necessarily in a good way) is the mention of how little has changed since Grant and Scott's time. How even today, any actor who comes out as any flavor of queer is immediately looked at differently, and how the fear of both professional and personal repercussions keeps people in the closet for so many reasons.

How I download fics and give them covers before sending them to my Kindle.

Hi all, I've been considering making a post about this for a while and now seems as good a time as any. I'm not an expert, and there is more than one way you can do this; I'm just going to show you my process using "Call It What You Want To" by @separatist-apologist as an example. [This will only work on computers FYI.]

Part One — Getting Started

Download Calibre (it's free.) Calibre for PC. Calibre for Mac. They also have it for Linux but idk if that's still relevant.

Follow the program's setup instructions, and then those for wirelessly connecting Calibre with your Kindle account. Alternatively, you can connect your Kindle/e-reader to your computer with a cable and transfer files manually or download the file to your hard drive and share it another way. I highly recommend taking a few extra minutes to set up the wireless sharing as I think it's far more convenient.

Create a folder in which to store fanfiction downloads so that you can be an organized human.

Part Two — The Fanfiction

Find the fic you want to download on ao3 and click it so that you're on the fic's first page.

Above the box of metadata (ratings, warning, tags, etc.) on the far right click the "download" option. When prompted to select a file type, choose "MOBI."

Note: Though ao3 has an "EPUB" option I've noticed a bug that removes the chapter navigation from the fic when downloading the EPUB directly from ao3. If you enjoy the "x minutes left in this chapter/book" feature on your e-reader, you will want to download "MOBI" and we will be converting it later in Calibre.

Save the file to the folder you created.

Launch Calibre if it isn't already running.

In Calibre, click "add books" on the toolbar at the top of the screen.

Navigate to the folder you saved the fic in, select the fic, then click "open." Calibre will import the MOBI file to your library.

Now as you can see, "Call It What You Want To" already has a cover when we imported it to the library. That is because the cover image is embedded in the fic on the archive. Some fics will already have covers embedded such as this one.

Calibre is not a genius. If there are multiple images in the fic it will usually take the first one and default it to the cover. In the next section, I will go over how to add/change the cover of a fic in Calibre and how I like to create them.

Note: Even if the fic doesn't have embedded images, covers may have been made by readers and linked to the fic either in the notes or related works sections so it's worth checking if a cover already exists. If a fic is popular enough, a Google search of the fic's title + "cover" or "cover art" will show you if there have been covers already created for it.

Part Three — Making The Cover (I use Canva)

On the Canva homepage click "create a design" then select the "custom size" option. Canva does have a book cover template but I've found that it's awkwardly tall compared to the default size for Kindle books so I make my own.

I set the dimensions of the design to be 1024 pixels wide, and 1600 pixels tall, then click "create new design."

This is where you can get creative, make whatever you want. These basic steps are shown in a gif at the bottom of the section:

One: Choose a background image (you'll want to make sure it's a high enough quality that it won't be pixelated.) I used an image I had already uploaded into Canva, but you can use whatever you would like.

Two: On the sidebar, select "elements" and then "rectangle."

Three: Make sure the rectangle covers the whole design, then change the color. I like using the colors from the photo that Canva suggests and then making them a darker shade. Once you have the color that you want, reduce the transparency of the rectangle to anywhere between 40-50%. (This step ensures that the text we put on top of the image is easily legible, play around with it a bit.)

Four: On the sidebar, select "text" and then "add a text box." Then type in the author's username and change the font, the color, and the size until you like it. Repeat the same steps for the fic's title. I like to center the title on the page and put the author toward the bottom but that's just my preference.

Once your cover looks the way you want it to, click "share" at the top right and follow the steps to download the file as a PNG. I usually just save the image to my desktop so I can grab it easily once I'm in Calibre.

Part Four — Adding the Cover in Calibre

In your Calibre library, hover over the fic and right-click. Then hover over "edit metadata" and click "edit metadata individually."

On the "edit metadata" screen, find the section that says "change cover" and click "browse."

When the file upload dialog box appears, navigate to the PNG you just saved from Canva, select it, and click "open." This will add your cover to the fic. You can use these same steps to add any cover image that you've saved to your computer.

Make sure to click "ok" at the bottom of the screen to save your new cover and navigate back to the library page.

Part Five — Converting to EPUB

In your Calibre library, select the fic and then click "convert books" on the toolbar. At the top right of the converting screen, set the "output format" to "EPUB."

Now, the following steps are unnecessary little things I do to make my reading experience more seamless.

Click "Look & Feel" on the left sidebar. Under the "fonts" tab, I embed the "Georgia" font family. I do this because I prefer reading in Georgia which is not a default option on my PaperWhite*. I have my Calibre conversion settings in place to do this automatically. You can embed any font that you have on your computer.

*It might just be me, but when opening a downloaded fic (following the methods in this post) for the first time on my Kindle the font is always weird. The trick to fix it is to go and change the font from whatever is selected (Baskerville in my case) to "publisher's font" and then I've found that switching it back to "Baskerville" on the font selection screen activates the embedded Georgia... even though it will say that it's Baskerville? Idk why this is, I just wanted to let you know how I fix it.

Calibre defaults to a justified text alignment unless you change the default settings. This appears as "original" in the alignment options. The random too-large spaces between words of a justified alignment give me the ick so to make everything left aligned, I stay on the "look & feel" page but move to the "text" tab where I can change the alignment.

Staying on "look & feel," move to the "layout" tab. To ensure even paragraph spacing regardless of how it appeared on the archive, I select both the "remove spaces between paragraphs" and "insert blank line between paragraphs" options.

On this page, you can also change the indent size of the first line of every paragraph (highlighted pink,) and the size of the blank lines Calibre will insert between paragraphs upon conversion (highlighted green.) I set the indent to 0.0 and leave the line size 0.5 which is the default.

The last thing I do is go to "EPUB output" on the left sidebar and check the box labeled "insert inline table of contents." This just means that Calibre will add a table of contents to the beginning of the EPUB. (By default it puts the TOC at the end which I don't like.)

When everything is set as you'd like it, click "ok" on the bottom right and Calibre will convert the MOBI file you downloaded from ao3 to an EPUB containing the settings we just changed. Both file types will appear in your library when you click on the fic and scroll within the right-side window. I usually delete the MOBI format after I have the EPUB because I don't need it any longer.

And you've done it! Now all you have to do is either right-click and share it to your Kindle, or you can "save to disk" and download the EPUB file to transfer to your e-reader by a method of your choosing.

I hope someone finds this marginally helpful. In truth, I was just bored so I made this post but in light of the recent DDoS attacks against ao3, I think everyone should look into downloading their favorites so that you're never left out in the cold again.

Ok, I know in advance this is going to sound petty as fuuuuuuck, but bear with me. I've taken a few days off from work and I think my brain is healing. Which means my mind is thinking about goofy shit. Strap in, folks.

Anyway, has anyone else been struck by just how much you see MER holding a saxaphone? I understand to some extent still photos that are clearly part of a photo shoot. However, I'm talking more about when she is being interviewed on Zoom or other media platforms. Does she end up playing it during those interviews? Or is it essentially just a prop? I feel like she's overcompensating. Like she's saying, I'm a saxaphonist, as you can clearly see because I'm holding this saxaphone. Which led me to wonder, since she is constantly being referred to as a saxophonist, does she have any music that she has released? Original music or covers? Or has she given live performances where she was the featured artist? I went on YT a while back to try to find videos of her actually playing and only found a couple of quick clips at events where it appears she was only on stage briefly. They definitely weren't her concerts. Even obscure artists have a good amount of their material on YT, but not MER. Which then got me to thinking, can this bruja actually play the saxaphone? I'm old enough to remember Mili Vanili winning a Grammy with their lip-synching asses, so I don't put anything past anybody. Again, I wouldn't believe her if she said the sky was blue.

Then, just a bit ago I saw the post below on Twitter. The "shitty sax playing comment" made me feel not so crazy in my train of thought. Her playing (if it truly is her) does sound amateurish--think 3rd chair sax in a high school band. So is she really a professional saxaphonist who earns a living with her playing, or just a rando chick who happens to be able to (kinda) play the saxaphone? We know she is a liar, so her running a con about her career as a musician would not surprise me at all. Well-established artists don't have their talent constantly linked to their name and aren't ALWAYS toting their fucking instrument around. Damn, even Prince didn't walk around with his guitar 24/7 and that man lived and breathed music. (Plus he would also have to lug around about 20 different instruments, but that's another story.)

@sarahivi and @luzsp9-1981 , your insight here would be appreciated. Not sure if referencing an artist's "talent" is something common in Mexican media? Also anything you may know about her career as a saxaphonist, pre- and post-attack would be helpful. Not completely sure if there are other Tenoch regulars here who are based in Mexico, but your input would be valued as well.

"I- this is ridiculous!" Looks around, sees everyone's wearing pink clothes.

"Why did I let you drag me into this?!"

"Cuz I'm ur cool friend who keeps you updated with the latest trends and besides, you had all the right to refuse it yet here you are~" cheeky smiles at him.

"Because you were persistent..." he mutters under his breath.

"Hmm yeah, whatever. Lets go to the movie!!"

"Alright, fine" he groans and walk's after her to the theater, "So... this movie is about Barbie? A doll?" he asks.

"Exactly! A live-action movie about the doll"

"...And let me guess. Barbie has a lot of adventures?

"She is EVERYTHING you could ever dreamt of being; she's an astronaut, a doctor, a firefighter, a lawyer, she graduated from every possible career" they enter to the movie theater.

"Wait... she graduated from being..what?-"

"Look! Everyone's in pink clothing! How cool is that!?"

"Why did I agree to this?" he mutters to himself.

They sit of their assigned seats.

"You're not seriously going to... enjoy this?" Revali asks.

"I'm gonna enjoy this with. every. single. cell. in my body-" interrupting your menancing speak, you turn to the source who called you out.

It was Urbosa!!! With Link and Zelda seating besides her.

"Gurl! What are you doing here?! Zelda and Link! Hii guys!" you happily greet and wave at them.

"Wait...why are they here too?"

The guy in the fronts seats recognizes your voice and turns around to greet you, it was Daruk!

"Ayo Daruk! You're also here?! Gosh this is epic" High-fives Daruk.

You feel a gentle hand poking your head, turning you head, Mipha and Sidon were also here!! Seating behind us.

"GUYS!! All the homies are in the house! Let's freaking GOOO!"

Revali is genuinely puzzled at this point "What in the... Why is everyone here?"

All the champions congratulate you for convincing Revali to come watch Barbie "I told you all I could easily managed it! Piece of cake" you brag.

Revali sighs in resignations "This is a nightmare"

"This gotta be the best day of my life!" you rejoice.

"I'm gonna to die of embarrasment. What will everyone think of me now that I've been seen in pink and attending some ridiculous girlie movie that's supposed to be entertaining?! Oh Goddess...

Raising your eyebrow and asks shamelessly to the champions, "Do you guys think Revali's ridiculous for wearing pink and coming to the Barbie movie?"

"Don't you DARE-"

Revali's threat was cutoff by the champions replies.

Urbosa feels glad Revali's here, she thinks his mind need a break from all his intense training and champion's duties. Daruk comments he's glad Revali is trying new stuff out of training stuff. Everyone agrees with both champion's statements.

"Told ya"

Revali is too stunned to say anything, he still can't believe this situation you dragged him into..... or that he's wearing pink.

"You're a little to hard on yourself, just relax" Offers him popcorn.

Taking the popcorn, still shocked and embarrassed, he quietly looks down, a low "...thank you" comes out of his peak.

"It's nothing. Oh! The movie's about to start!"

The movie starts and he's secretly watching it.

After 20 minutes into the movie he slowly starts enjoying it, even admiting to himsef it's quite comical.

He gives up and finally admits he IS enjoying the movie.

Thinks about the Mojo Dojo Casa House a lot.

Eventually chuckles at the funny scenes, keeps it lowkey.

Once the movie is over, you DEFINETELY tease him about how he actually liked the movie.

Even thought he tried to be annoyed, he can't hide the fact he liked it.

And for the cherry on top, you both went to have dinner in a spicy fried chicken restaurant and had a competition of how could it the chicken the fastest....

And of course Revali won, has an advantage considering his peak.

in an act of (???) decided to basically redo my scorpion and carnorpion design from march almost entirely. i did copy and paste some of the stuff i had already done but i redrew a lot too so this took a few days...

the new claw design (and the carnorpion helmet) is based HEAVILY off of the Scorpion armor from Superior Spider-Man (which means it was probably designed by Ramos but I donʻt actually know, might have been a different artist)

gonna put a bunch of closeups under the cut lol:

accidentally made him hot (i already thought he was hot). based his face roughly off of Vin Diesel circa the first Fast and Furious movie lol

i sliiiightly changed the design of this helmet on both the back and front. there were aspects of the previous carnorpion helmet i liked more than the previous scorpion helmet so i kind of combined the two.

i also added a quick doc ock for comparison:

Ock's neural implants are larger and more experimental than Mac's since he made them in like... 2005 at the latest, probably earlier than that and Mac's are made in 2007 by the Tinkerer using some of Ock's existing research, so basically Phineas refined what Ock had already done.

Mac's are also inductive (i don't... know if that's actually the right way to call it but it's at least similar; wireless energy transmission essentially) and don't require strong contact to transfer and translate nerve signals, whereas Ock's plug directly into his back into the sockets like that.

one of them is gonna have more back problems later in life than the other, that's for sure.

armor front

this part changed a lot compared to the old design but it also took me a lot of fiddling to get it to where i wanted... the whole gamut of inspiration... knightly armor... halo... metroid... in the end i went with the armor bikini, obviously, but there was a version without that.

back also took some fiddling. it's very similar to the old one though. this is basically where the tail attaches (or like, a cover if he's not using it, i guess) This DOES has plugs just because... I felt like it... more secure... etc... the opposite side of the plugs (inside) is smooth discs that take the signal from his back implants (which are exposed by open eyelets on his shirt) and then that signal goes into his tail as well as all along the gold parts of his special undershirt and through his suit to where he needs it—helmet, arms/claws, torso/tail

like so:

probably more padding in there than what i drew but... eh... it's good enough. probably uses some kind of conductive fabric or something.

gave him little thumb holes to keep the sleeves straight though... hehe

and yes i decided (a while ago) that he wears a jock strap with optional cup depending on outfit (probably no cup with the metal bikini but who knows, maybe it would help keep things more secure and protected lol)

here's the tail connected. this was a bitch and a half to get the way i wanted tbqh, especially since he needs to be able to like... bend his back at all... but simplicity definitely is the way to go for this kind of thing... i like what i ended up with a lot.

maybe it's not totally fool proof but i think it looks alright

the knife is only a few inches long but that's still probably enough to stab with.

here's a little closeup of my explorations of the tail. this is based off of photo references which is why it looks the way it does lol, basically looking at things like tension-based pulley systems and animatronics and thinking about how a mechanical tail could work. i think it turned out neat.

(this is not how ock's current tentacles work fyi—ock's current set uses a pneumatic bellows system similar to Festo's bionicmotionrobot, and his previous set i'm not sure; symbiote system was hydraulic and used the symbiote as a lubricant though)

legs are almost exactly the same but i got rid of the lights cause they're just armor and not neurally linked. there's mac's face with the visor up too lol

since i put it way up top i'll put it here again—

claws and gauntlets have been pretty updated. especially the pincers though. you can see below a few pictures down i based it very heavily off of the Superior Spider-Man design. hefty, good shape, etc. i like this 500x more than the pincers i tried to do last time. and i didn't even do any of the hard work xD

here's how his arms fit into the pincers though.

they're pretty hefty.

anyway as for carnorpion

well first here's an alternate version without the thigh highs cause i couldn't choose

it just feels so... naked with the thighs bare... and not even in a slutty way. is very meaty though.

obv i also copy pasted a chunk from the old version on this but i still redrew a lot of it... TBH I'm still not sure I like it XD but it's fine. I like the claws at least. but those are just the Superior claws with teeth. turning into a crab i guess.

This Incident Is Looming btw. Next chapter (ch 4/may) if all goes well 🤘

put the left doodle from march on the main armor pic but it would actually apply to carnorpion, not the green armor lol. plan is that i am maybe drawing more from Superior than I originally was gonna and am probably gonna have Doc Ock punch Mac's face jaw off.

AS Doc Ock though. lol.

Did I mention I based this helmet off of Superior Spider-Man's Scorpion? Cause I did. I liked the lenses... and then I was like hmm this might be good for combining organic with armor... so it's very very very similar to his helmet in Superior, but different colors:

honestly I probably should have just lifted the entire helmet wholecloth, it's so organic and weird... (and here you can see the claw inspiration as well) (arguably the torso thing on carnorpion in my drawing are also based on this...) (I know I drew a whole fucking thing but what if carnorpion was just this but red)

anyway i didn't include the uh... coin slot.

white base version (might actually prefer this helmet's aesthetic tbh but it's not very organic.)

the idea here is that the carnage symbiote is not (yet) bonding with mac directly but rather through/with his armor, so the Tinkerer makes like, this bonus set of armor that acts as essentially a substrate/base for the symbiote to build off of... which is why it's that weird bluish yellowish white color.

though idk maybe they'll just bond... really it's shrug city rn i'm still figuring so much shit out for this plot lol it continues to escape me

also the knife is probably bigger? idk. i can't eyeball stuff like that very well so i can't tell if it's any bigger lmao.

was also thinking this could be an opportunity for a more portable tail that doesn't require putting on an entire suit of armor (but which comes with all the pieces just in case, probably?) and so i also designed an extremely unreasonable harness to secure it to mac's bod. so of course that means: lots of straps.

the yellow parts are just the induction/conduction stuff... gold discs, gold thread, idk.

hm i should have put some little elastic straps crossing that hole in the center. oh well, not like he'd be walking around in this without a tail strapped to it anyway

i realized in retrospect i didn't include any actual securements/connections ON the spine part underneath this but it's fine just pretend I drew those. I DID add even more straps for this under the pretense that it's being strapped onto the existing straps to keep it from wiggling.

reduce the lights to one on top and one on bottom cause the pieces of the spine are laid out kind of odd so doing lights on every one looks weird cause some are smaller and doing lights only on the one interfacing directly with his back looked weirder because they skip some rows just because of placement. looks fine like this though.

uses the same understuff as the regular suit though (the shirt with the gold bits i put up in the green suit)

all in all i think it's fair to say that mac's shit is way more of a hassle to put on and off than ock's

here's a bonus carnage. i like when carnage looks like this the best. i think the less uptight/the more bonded they get, the closer to this face carnorpion would get, but keeping some of the spikes, claws, and tail...

that's it lol

i still don't know if i like the carnorpion stuff entirely but i like this green armor muuuch more than my previous design from march.

hi I hope you have great holidays (if you celebrate!) I love how your screenshots look, could you describe your editing progress in any chance? <3

definitely! my editing progress usually depends on the general feel of each photoset/screenshot so this is just a composed list of steps i generally take whenever i edit them.

the screenshot is taken with gshade (personal preset) and edited with ☠ photoshop CC 2019!

today we're working with this screenshot:

yes i took it with the border shader in gshade. less things for me to do in photoshop and i can angle the frame how i see fit!

since i've planned to crop this into a square (based on how the border is set) so we'd do that. after cropping i'd run an action (that i called "base") composed of:

in which the ☠ topaz clean and smart sharpen settings are taken from avonlea's actions. the camera raw filter is just there to add +5 clarity points. ☠ topaz denoise setting varies because unlike topaz clean, denoise pop up window will show up and let you edit it right at the moment. here's a before and after:

here i'd use the liquify tool to smooth out the rough edges, or export it as .psd to procreate if i wanted some extensive edit and draw on, etc.. then import it back again in pts for the next step.

next i basically throw the screenshot into ☠ color efex & analog efex pro where i play around with the filters and spam the compare button until i'm satisfied.

the settings get changed every time so it'd be kind of useless for me to share them but these are the ones i mess with the most:

then i'll use the camera raw filter again to hot-fix the screenshot (mostly saturation, hue, highlight, white points, clarity and texture), resizing the image to 1280px wide*, run an action (that i called "noise") and we'll end up with something like this:

fyi: sharpen the screenshot after adding noise is a personal choice btw. sometimes i'd double sharpen the screenshot if i want it to be more sharp - run the unsharp mask option before the noise action itself.

*if the current width is lesser than 1280px i'd downsize it to 540px since upsizing a lower resolution image will make the details blurrier (there's rarely a case where my original screenshot after cropped is lesser 540px wide).

*if i use swre to hotsample my screenshots i'd resize the photo to 2160px wide instead. most of the 2160px width cases are fullbody shots in cas.

last step is to save/export the edited screenshot as PNG. the grand reveal:

How do I find protests/picketers in my area (if there are any)? I feel like just Googling it won't get me much because, at least based on other protest info, that kind of info doesn't get casually posted because that's how cops find you. How different is this from an event like that? I want to help out tangibly because I don't use social media

Thank you for reaching out about this topic! Long post ahead because there's a lot of info to cover. Tl;dr the answer depends on your location, because the film/TV industry is so geographically specialized. But please know, on the legal side, that picketing is completely legal. It's an organized labor action protected by law! You can't be arrested for a peaceful picket (...even if the studios would love to see writers arrested for striking for fair pay.)

-If you are planning to go picket, please read this thread on how to picket first, then continue reading this post! Includes info on basic etiquette & picketing while disabled—for instance, Amazon, Disney and Warner Bros. studios are the most wheelchair accessible LA locations!

-For Los Angeles and New York City (the major picketing sites; that's where the writers and studios are), the WGA West and East post the striking schedule on their website, and often it's shared on Twitter. Join in on any publicly posted strike! At the location, find your local strike captains, the WGA members who volunteer to organize the picketing, to get instructions and pre-made picket signs.

-There are many LA locations—try to get out to the less-popular ones if you can, because they still need numbers! (Just FYI, Netflix is probably the most popular, and Universal has been sending out calls for additional people recently! Go where you're needed.)

-For LA and NY, plenty of non-industry people are picketing—fans, friends, other union members, and people who just want to support. Please be sure to follow good etiquette: listen to the strike captains, clean up any trash, and don't harass actors/writers who are public figures! Also, please wear sunscreen, hydrate, and eat. Despite the viral photos of abundant food supplies on the picket lines, there are SO MANY strike locations at so many studios, and unfortunately not every location gets well-supplied with food, water, and other essentials.

-(On an aside: it's also possible to get plugged into food & water donations if you aren't located near a picket location. Our Flag Means Death fandom, Lord of the Rings fandom, and more are getting food directly to writers via organized campaigns. It's a super effective morale boost to offer free tacos and La Croix to hungry writers who are walking 10 miles in the sun around studios every day—who knew?) (If none of the already-organized fandoms are your thing, there are plenty of other general fundraisers linked in this fantastic Twitter thread. OR you could start your own fandom-specific fundraiser—reach out for tips and templates!)

-Many fandoms are organizing LA/NY pickets with local groups, like Star Trek and Our Flag Means Death fans. The best way to find people to picket with might be through your fandoms first (Twitter might be the better medium rather than Tumblr fo that, because that's where more people are following the strike in real-time. Definitely consider creating a Twitter account if you don't have one just to follow the WGA and its strike captains for the duration of the strike.) Or if you don't have fandom buddies in the area, just bring a friend or two—the more the merrier! Non-industry people are definitely welcome as long as you can listen to your strike captain and work respectfully with the WGA people :)

-Outside of the major hubs, there are going to be pickets where studio films and shows are being filmed in order to shut down production. (Detect a studio film/TV shoot in your location that's trying to be secretive? Report it to the WGA to get in on the sweet, sweet pro-WGA direct action! Please note that this doesn't apply to films not from a struck company—i.e., don't shut down an independent student film, but DO shut down Netflix, Disney, Sony, Warner Bros., Universal, Apple TV, and Amazon.)

-There are relatively few pickets scheduled in advance at non-LA/NY locations. It's very dependent on 1) a scheduled event far in advance, such as the Chicago pickets at the downtown studios, or 2) discovering a studio production being secretly filmed. In the second case, it's super essential that the WGA has sufficient people to form a picket line at the very last minute, and at odd hours, so please offer your support in those cities if possible!

-Philadelphia people should follow WGA strike captain Warren Leight on Twitter to get plugged in with their ultra-cool guerilla tactics to shut down production in that area (...via reconnaissance missions to find out where people are secretly filming! It's kind of epic.)

-Chicago people should follow WGA strike captain Zayd Dohrn on Twitter. There have been a handful of organized pickets downtown, but they're not every day. (A certain fans4wga mod might be in town and attending a handful of Chicago pickets if they're still happening in June, so on the downlow, feel free to message if you're a Chicago-area fans4wga person who wants to form a fan picketing group and make some cool signs!)

-Atlanta has just this week started organized picketing through the WGA East. No official news yet, but we'll add more info when we get it; it'll probably show up on the WGA's official schedule too.

-And this is neat international solidarity: board members of the Deutscher Drehbuchverband (Screenwriters Guild of Germany) recently picketed at the European Headquarters of the MPPA in Brussels, alongside people from the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe (FSE) and the Federation of European Screen Directors (FERA), in solidarity with the US writers' guild. There might be activity wherever you are in the world—look up local guilds and see what they're doing!

Hey lovelies. I know it's been a crazy week or so... tax time, all the random sightings of Chaos Dad, WBD being a POS. I know a lot of you are hurting pretty bad right now, and not sure where to vent your frustrations.

Just remember that it's okay to step away, and it's okay to not engage with things you don't feel like you can stomach. It doesn't mean you're not allowed in that space, and it doesn't make you a bad person. You are allowed to shine as bright as you are, but you can also choose which places get to bask in that light. You are allowed to take up space. You are allowed to shine. You are allowed to find the places that your sunshine helps others to grow and vice versa.

We aren't all going to get along all the time, as much as I'd love the world to be in that kind of space to allow for it. We've all been hurt, and we've all been through things in this life that have made us no longer trust people and places. I hope that one day, along with this awesome crew we can make a better space for everyone, and even if not all of us can get along all the time, that all of us find our ways to people who we feel safe with.

Remember that you are so kind, and you are so worthy. Some days it doesn't feel like it. Some days others try to take that from you. But that's what you are. You are worthy of love, and safety, and you are so very beautiful. Remember the kindness in your heart, and try not to let folks snuff it out. I know it's there, and I believe in you.

I really hope you all get some rest tonight lovelies, or soon, you deserve a break. The world can be very hard, but you are the soft, bright ball of love it needs, don't forget that.

behold the merlin! a merlin is a breed of small hawk that largely hunts other, smaller birds (though has also been known to hunt larger birds like ducks, and mated pairs will hunt together). they're considered very efficient at this. they like to live in wooded areas near bodies of water but can adapt to thrive in urban environments, and falconers utilize these birds to hunt small game birds when they don't have the space for dogs. this very direct, aggressive approach to life feels very raleigh, especially over the course of wolf's tooth. regional varieties don't really matter when comparing this bird to raleigh, because merlin don't typically live in the state of maine!

this one is a slightly more representational choice than a behavioral one; bears represent things like strength (they're extremely strong, by the way, like they're crazy strong) but also family and benevolence. mother bears will watch over their cubs for two or more years before the family splits up as most animal families do. like, they're scary and you probably shouldn't try to hang out with bears, but they feel like such little sweeties. kirby has some... issues, with the concept of family, but he's extremely protective and absolutely full of love. and extremely strong, like crazy strong.

a boxer! my family had a boxer when i was growing up and she was lovely. brionna's difficult to pin down because there aren't a ton of animals associated with, like, fatal and inhuman amounts of repression, so i shifted my focus. dogs are largely considered stalwart and loving, and boxers are dedicated working dogs as well as wonderful family members! brionna's family is very important to her. ergo... boxer. love a boxer.

a dragonfly! apparently the subspecies of dragonfly are very similar to each-other behaviorally, which makes some sense i guess, or at least that the behavioral differences are going to be slightly more niche interest knowledge than differences in species of birds and mammals. similar to a butterfly, which is sort of a bug ... uh, inclined? to metamorphosis, but, like, a dragonfly is a lot faster. dragonflies are associated with freedom and discovery in many ways. it's a little bit wilder, and unlike butterflies many of them can land and rest on the surface of the water (which doesn't really matter but i think it's cool).

Well, hello there. I'm Screw, designation CT-7045, of the 501st Legion. Torrent Company, specifically. My batchmates are troopers Tup and Dogma.

A few of my brothers have convinced me into creating this blog on the holonet. Fives said it would be good for me to interact with civvies? Don't know about that, but this seemed fun all the same.

Is this canon compliant?

if I'm being honest, not usually, but it depends on if I'm rp-ing with someone who is being canon compliant. This is kind of an au (considering that Tup and Dogma are the only ones left of their batch if my knowledge is correct, so Screw wouldn't exist. but he does here ahahahhaha). Also in this au I've decided that domino squad all survives and all become ARCs, huzzah! This is all sort of just bending canon lol

How did Screw get his name?

That's actually one of my wips, I'll link to it when it's finished (here's a snippet!) (btw it includes Fordo and Alpha-17, more not really canon compliant stuff (??) but who cares? not me!)

What does Screw look like?

I promise I'll add a photo of him to this post . . . as soon as I finish it that is . . . Anyways he uses a DC-17 like his two batchmates. He originally was going to cut his hair shorter like Dogma's, but Tup convinced Screw to grow his hair out like with him. It's not quite as long as Tup's yet, but it's getting there. It's longer than regulation, so Tup and Screw can tie most of it up if they want, but not all of it yet.

Screw and Tup also came up with the teardrop tattoo idea and they're proud of it. I'm currently brainstorming tattoo ideas for him.

He has a large scar across his face, from his forehead, across the bridge of his nose, and off his cheek. Another smaller scar cuts throigh his eyebrow. He got the scars in his squad's first posting, where they (Screw, Tup, and Dogma) lost the other members.

(The following is subject to change) Screw's helmet is painted to kind of match his scar, but symmetrical, it almost looks like a peace sign on the front. His armor is pretty random, he has two big four-pointed stars on his knee plates, an five-pointed star on one of his shoulders, and the other shoulder is solid blue. On the top of his chest plate is some clouds, with lightning and raindrops coming down from them. On the back of one of his hand plates is Tup's teardrop, and on the other is Dogma's chevron. On one of his forearms are patterns from his other two squadmates' armor (the ones who are no longer with them), and other patterns from other clones who have made a difference in Screw's life. On the other of his forearms is Ahsoka's markings, and some other TBD markings. The rest of his armor is TBD

What's Screw's personality like?

He, uh, let's just say he's got a loose screw or two. Also I have taken large chunks of my personality and made it his personality too. So there's that.

Screw likes cool stories (they live in his head rent-free) and he was able to bond with Hardcase over explosions. Once he met Fives, he was a teensy bit less lax with rules, but Dogma gently reminds him here and there when needed.

The 501st is all convinced that Screw also had a leak in his growth jar, like Hardcase, 'cause how else could you explain all his randomness and occasional chaos? However, this leak thing has never been officially confirmed by the Kaminoans. But Kix said "Most likely." so it's basically confirmed. At least for the 501st.

Screw also has trouble going to bed/sleeping at normal hours. A lot of the times he's up late, with only Rex up too, doing reports and captain stuff. Screw would love to go spend time with his Captain but he's a bit (socially) anxious, like Tup, so he's too scared to ask. luckily, those late nights are perfect for blogging. Though Screw does have trouble waking up in the morning. Also sometimes he gets matching headaches with Tup, and less frequently, Dogma.

Screw loves his brothers, especially his two other batchers (platonically, no cloneshipping here). He's also fascinated with mando'a, he thinks the language is really cool and already mostly knows it. He's a slight nerd and will sometimes hyperfixate on various topics. He likes learning new words. Once he painted a mouse droid and named it Slayer. And named a mop Enrad. Screw is also besties with 99 (and Omega a bit) :>

FYI that post you just boosted is a scam. They stole that lady’s photos and videos and the donation links aren’t connected to her. I get scam accounts like this in my inbox all the time. Easiest ways to spot them is to scroll through the blog to see the oldest post. There’s never that many, just a few random reblogs and repeated posts for donations, never more than a few days old.

I know it’s easy to fall for because there are a lot of legit donation posts and we try to act in good faith but it’s important to vet them before you spread a scam. Anyways just wanted to inform you and maybe your followers as well.
