New Book from Laila Ali

Live where your heart leads you. That was the phrase that came out of my mouth today as I sat in my car recapping my lunch with Laila Ali & friends at the release party of her new book, "Food For Life." Oftentimes, at these Hollywood parties, I find myself not staying very long - watching as people look for the next big thing to walk in the room rather than looking at me in the eye or struggling to have even a civilized surface conversation. But today was different, and I can't help but think it was because of this lady right here - Laila Ali. The outdoor garden of The Ponte was filled with smiling faces - most close friends of Laila - who wasted no time including me in conversation, selfie shenanigans and celebration of this life force of a woman. While we were there to enjoy delicious food from her book where she says "flavor is king but nutrition is queen," I also felt completely satiated as I saw old friends, got to know new friends and even walked out getting to know some friends I've only known on social media. A day like today with Laila as our host and a roomful of people there to cheer her - and, each other - on, I'm reminded of why I moved to California back in 2000... To pursue my talents, passions and dreams... And, to be surrounded by creative, inspiring people... All while feeling grounded by the best support system around.
