“Bro, she’s a bitch. Don’t listen to her.”
You scoff with a smile at hearing Jimin’s words. “Girl, that lady is my grandma. My mom sucks up to her very badly so, I kind of have to listen to her even though I want to punch the shit out of her.”
“Your grandma can kiss my ass,” Jimin harshly said as he dyed his hair a new color. He inspected his hair in the mirror as he kissed his teeth, making sure he wasn’t missing any spots. “I’ll tell her the truth. I’ll tell her, straight up, that if she causes you any trouble or any problem, she will see my fist coming to her wrinkly face before she could even blink.”
You smiled at hearing your best friend’s words of reassurance, glancing down at the dog you were walking.
“You truly would beat up a bitch for me, huh?” You teased, raising a hand as a thanks to a driver who stopped for you. You continued walking down the neighborhood.
“For you, always,” Jimin said without hesitation. “Also, where are you? I hear cars driving by.”
“Remember I’m walking Taehyung’s dog because he’s working?” Jimin let out a small ‘oh’ at your response. “Yeah, that man needs to find someone. He’s always working or staying home with this cutie.”
“I tried but the last girl said he was a red flag so, I’m just letting fate deal with it,” Jimin muttered, loud enough for you to hear what he was saying. “After all, he’s always cooking something, so I don’t mind him being single since we get fed.”
“You’re so right,” you gasped out. “Ugh, he needs to make the steak again.”
“Yes!” Jimin gasped next. “I’ll text him in the group chat.”
“Okay you do- Oh, shit!” You softly exclaimed to yourself as you tripped. You panicked, though, once you came to feel Yeontan’s leash gone from your hand. You stayed quiet, looking around, before gulping “Jimin?” You call out. He hummed. “Uh… Uh, I accidentally let go of Yeontan’s leash.”
“Oh, my God,” you heard him breathe out. “How? You were just walking him right now!”
“I tripped!” You exclaimed, your hands beginning to shake and your body heating up with worry.
“I’m heading your way. You know how much Taehyung worships that dog.”
You didn’t even process his words or him hanging up, but you looked around rapidly, hoping to catch a glimpse of the dog’s fur.
Once you saw him, you ran to him.
You thank whatever God out there that you weren’t near any traffic or that there weren’t any cars near you because if something happened to Yeontan… Taehyung would definitely kill you. He would kill you and Jimin if he had to if it meant saving Yeontan’s life. You wouldn’t blame him. You loved the dog, too, and would kill for him.
You searched every bush and yard that was in your way for anything, but Yeontan was nowhere to be seen.
Tears began blurring your eyesight at the panic because what if he got hurt? Oh, God. You can’t even imagine. No, he’s not hurt. Yeontan may be slow but he was very smart. He knew when to cross and knew when to stop if he saw a car coming.
Hopefully he’ll be okay. You’ll keep searching in the meantime.
Jungkook was on his motorcycle on the side of the street when he spotted a furry thing peeing on a bush out of the corner of his eye.
Well, he thinks he sees it because when he turns back to see if he saw right, there was nothing there.
Frowning, he took off his helmet and stood up from his motorcycle. He quickly turned it off and walked off towards where he thought he last saw the dog. He moved his backpack to the side to grab the dog treats he had just bought for his dog, Bam, making sure he had something to persuade the dog just in case it was lost and he needed to grab it.
He smiled in relief as he spotted a small furry animal sniffing around. Thankfully, he wasn’t going crazy, but it confirmed his worst fears that the dog was lost due to its leash still attached to him.
“Pss,” Jungkook softly hissed out, attracting the attention of the dog. Yeontan turned to look at him and was about to run away had he not spotted the treat in Jungkook’s hand. “Come here, bud. Want a treat?”
The dog clearly loved his treats because he came running to Jungkook at full speed, his tail wagging in the air very happily. Jungkook chuckled and grabbed the dog, feeding him the dog treat, before taking him with him to his motorcycle.
He sat down and because he did not like to ride his motorcycle with a dog that wasn’t his, he sat there and caught the attention of Yeontan.
“Let me see your collar, bud,” he said in a soft voice, grabbing the little tag that was attached to his collar. He eyed the name. “Yeontan… pretty name for you.”
Yeontan barked with his tongue sticking out, panting, clearly appreciating the compliment due to the fact he started licking Jungkook’s hand.
Jungkook read the information.
“If lost, call my dad, Taehyung…”
Jungkook took out his phone with the hand that wasn’t holding Yeontan and typed in Taehyung’s number. Though, before he could call, he spotted a woman running around in the distance yelling Yeontan’s name. He hummed under his breath.
Yeontan perked up at your voice and looked around, hoping to see you.
You were on the brink of calling Taehyung to tell him the bad news when a whistle catches your attention.
Thinking it was some perv driving by trying to catch your attention, you ignore it. You began to let out small dry sobs and you wished no one would pop up to see you ugly crying.
Another whistle.
Overstimulated, you immediately turned around to yell at the person yelling. Your mouth was opened, ready to spew out curses, before spotting a man with a leather jacket holding Yeontan on his lap while he sat on his motorcycle.
You gasp. “Yeontan!” You immediately headed towards the man, your arms picking up the small furry animal who started licking your face. You held him tight. “I’m so fucking mad at you. Your dad would’ve killed me, you know that? I would’ve never been able to feed you underneath the table and then who would feed you, hmm? I’m so mad at you.”
Nuzzling your face against his fur, your eyes opened as you remembered that you weren’t entirely alone. There was another person there, watching you.
You came face to face with a man, a small amused smile on his lips. Your body heated up with embarrassment at the thought of your panicked expression and how you were just talking to Yeontan.
“Oh, hello,” you said with a small sniff. You wiped your tears away with the sleeve of your sweater. “Thank you so much for holding onto him.”
“I saw him running so I figured you’d need a hand,” the stranger said, watching the dog lick your chin. He arched a brow before clearing his throat. “Is he your dog?”
You shook your head and looked back up to look at him. Really look at him. He was handsome, yeah, but nothing compared to your boyfriend, who hasn’t texted you good morning yet, by the way, now that you think about it.
“No, he’s my friend’s dog,” you replied. You glanced between him and the dog, bowing your head. “Thank you again. You saved my life. If he had gotten hurt, I would not be standing in front of you.”
The man chuckled. “How did he even get loose?” You groaned and placed your forehead on top of Yeontan’s head. “That embarrassing, huh?”
“I fucking tripped,” you sheepishly said, scratching the dog. Though you were upset at him for having you panicking and running around—even if it was your fault—the dog was too cute for you to stay mad at for too long. “I learned my lesson not to talk on the phone while walking him.”
Jungkook snorted. “Ah, don’t worry. That happened to me once, too, so don’t blame yourself too hard.” He smiled and pet the dog in your arms. “Are you far from your destination?”
“No,” you nodded. You could see he was worried about leaving you there after that incident, especially since you were still shaking from the adrenaline. “I’m good though. I’m, like, 5 minutes away.”
Humming, he nodded with you. “Okay, then. That makes me feel better, I was worried that you might’ve lived far—” He stops mid-conversation and looks at you. “You look familiar by the way.”
“Do I?” You frown.
“You live by the Diamond Apartment Complex?” He asked, his helmet in his hands as he was about to put it on.
You debated whether to tell him or not considering he was a man and you didn’t know him. But, he must live there, too, so you hummed.
“Yeah, why?” Though, you put the pieces together once you noted his motorcycle and his words. “Don’t tell me you live in 36B.”
“And you live in 35B,” he scoffed. You could see the corner of his lip, where his lip ring was, tilted up in an amused smile. “You’re the girl who is always yelling.”
“And you’re the jerk who revs his motorcycle so early in the morning,” you retorted back. “I’ve actually been meaning to speak to you.”
“Mmm, to tell me how annoying my motorcycle is and that I have a small dick?” He raised a brow in almost a challenging way. You gaped at him. “I heard your conversation on the phone yesterday with your boyfriend. The walls are thin.”
“Oh, my God,” you breathed out embarrassedly.
“Nice to know my dick size resides in your mind,” he said with a low chuckle escaping his lips. He put on his helmet. “Tell your boyfriend he should fuck you better if that’s what you think of 24/7.”
“I-” you simply said. “Leave my love life out of this. You shouldn’t be talking when you can’t even make your girlfriend moan.”
A smirk grew on his face behind his helmet. “Tell your boyfriend to stop making you fake your moans, then.”
“I never fake it. Maybe you’re pissed off about me admitting you have a small dick because it’s true and you haven’t felt the touch of your girlfriend in months.”
He looked at you and you knew he was because you could feel his stare burning your body despite his visor blocking his face.
He simply hummed.
“Watch out tonight.”
“Did you just threaten me?” You let out a small scoff while you look at him, moving aside towards the sidewalk.
“Oh, not you,” he said. “Just going to let you know, you won’t be sleeping at all.” He started his motorcycle. “You want to say all that shit, then I’ll prove you wrong.”
You snorted and slowly nodded before walking away. You placed one last kiss on Yeontan's head.
“What an idiot.”

I need Stan and Ford to see their mom again
Like let's say she's still alive and in her 80s, she's in a wheelchair (ambulatory, she has customized canes) she still lives in their old home because a part of her hoped Stanford would come back, and she didn't want to leave their home, so he'd know where to go back to.
She wanted to stay put in case Ford came back.
So imagine her shock when both her boys come back home to her
Obviously Stan immediately starts apologizing for faking his death, putting her through grief, her arranging and attending his funeral, but she stops him like "I'd much rather it be fake than real." That's her baby boy, back from the dead, something most people don't get, so to her it's a miracle.
Her Jersey accent is thick, and it actually brings out the twins' accents that had faded over time (Stan's sounds natural to him since he always retained it a little, but everyone finds it funny when Ford's accent comes back because he just doesn't seem like the type to speak like that)
THEY MOVE HER INTO THE SHACK
The boys wanna take care of their mama and keep her around since it's been so long, and Caryn is delighted to be moved out of a loud city with rough memories and into a quiet little town where the people are odd but nice. Ford and Stan both work together to make the Shack accessible for her. Ford actually sat in her wheelchair to test everything and make sure she could get around on her own.
They catch her up on everything, and at first they don't think she'll fully believe them but she's like "Stanford built an international portal and got lost for 30 years? Stanley took his place and turned his home into tourist trap? Yeah, that seems like something my boys would do."
When she learns Stan taught himself engineering to re-build the portal, she's obviously very proud of him. "You were never dumb, Stanley, ya just learned different. Honestly, I always thought ya had A-D-H-D but Pa never wanted ya tested. But look how smart and creative ya turned out, son! I think ya did good." And Stan is definitely not crying.
Personal headcanon: Caryn was also really smart and picked up on things quick. The boys had to have gotten it from somewhere, and it wasn't Filbrick. He just took the credit because 1) he was the worst, and 2) times were different back then and no one would have really taken her seriously. But she's the one who would fix things around the house since she taught herself how to keep the place together and running since Filbrick wouldn't pay anyone to come and repair anything.
Imagine little Stan standing behind her with a flashlight while she fixes the wiring in the wall because an outlet stopped working. Both of the boys helping her while she fixes the car for the third time that week because it keeps breaking down. Mama Pines taught herself how to keep things up and running because no one else would or could.
Caryn meets Mabel and Dipper when they come back in the summer, and Mabel is THRILLED
She's technically met them before but they were still newborns at the time so they don't remember her, and she hadn't gotten a chance to see who they'd become
Mabel makes her a sweater and she wears it with pride. And I really think it would go like that scene from Elemental
Caryn: You made this?
Mabel: Oh, yeah, it's nothing-
Caryn: Nothin? Babygirl, my designer dresses were made by 'nothin.' Oh sweetie, you have got to do somethin' with this skill. And to think, I have an original 'Mabel Pines.'
And don't think I'm leaving Dipper out of this, he gets his great-grandma's attention too. She loves talking to him and listening to him tell stories about the monsters they've encountered in the past. She sees a lot of Ford in him, but she also sees a lot of Stan in him in other ways.
I think Dipper's love for "girly" music is something Stan used to share before Filbrick "disciplined" him for it. Child Stan used to sit in the kitchen with his Ma and sing along to the radio, usually listening to whatever she had put on.
Now all three of them sit in the kitchen and listen to the radio while Stan cooks.
Ford feeling like a failure for putting everyone in danger, and Caryn just goes, "Come talk to your mama." And he does. He goes and talks to his mama, like he always has in the past. She's in her 80s and they're grown men in their late 50s, but she's still their mom, and you never really quit being a mom.
I might actually write a short fic about this, I love it so much.

Hiii! Could you imagine one where the reader finds out she's pregnant during one of Spencer's missions and when he comes home she has a crisis and ends up feeling ill and Spencer doesn't know how to help and the reader doesn't know how to tell him she's pregnant. (Both are already married)
i took this opportunity to set my pregnant!reader series into the future cause i already planned for them to have another child. request is tweaked justttt a little.
“my dear sweet penny, can you hit me with a bus? i want this misery to end.” you’ve been hit with the worst stomach bug or flu or just something that’s been lasting since spencer went on his case, five days ago.
your mom took your daughter for the day when you realized you weren’t getting out of bed anytime soon and you called in your reinforcement of one penelope garcia. the case ended yesterday but the team had to stay an extra day due to weather in their state, so penelope has been keeping you company for the past two days. it was nice to have an adult conversation instead of bluey and the same princess movies.
“okay, if you’re pleading for death that means it’s time to head over to a hospital. i don’t want spencer to hypothetically bite my head off if something happens to you.” her bright blonde hair was your shining sun in your darkened bedroom. and her jewelry were loud gongs with each step she took. “i hate to sound like a bitch but can you like, be the opposite of yourself today?” moaning and groaning as you tried pushing off the tossed sheets.
“yeah, you need a doctor. cause and i quote ‘penny if i even say to change yourself i’ve been abducted and that’s an alien.’ hopefully they can give you good drugs.”
at the hospital they took some blood, made you pee and just did a bunch of other check ups when it was shown you were sick with anything. so after an hour or so your doctor renters the sterile room with his clipboard and a poker face. “well, you’re not sick, but you are pregnant. we’ll get an ultrasound in here to check on the fetus.” talk talk talk and then he left again, leaving you and penelope open mouthed shocked.
“holy shit,” breathing out as your hand rubbed over your still small belly. “i told spencer i couldn’t keep my hands to myself.” telling that to the ceiling.
“oh, i’ll have another godchild! i’m so happy to live vicariously through you.” penelope stood at your side and smiled down at you. you turned your head towards her, “you know when they’re older, you’ll be our go-to babysitter then. so just be prepared for that.”
with the ultrasound done they confirmed you were almost done with your first trimester and that left you a bit shocked. you were three months pregnant but didn’t know, now you understand how some of those other ladies feel. but you were excited for another, but then you were done, seriously.
you tried calling spencer after leaving but his phone when to voicemail, but you didn’t think anything of it. probably feel asleep or out doing something with his team. so when you arrived to your mom’s place you were a bit surprised to see your husband holding your daughter and swinging her around.
“you’re back!” penny the first to speak and move further into the home. spencer and anna both turned their heads and smiled at the bright lady. “auntie penny!” your annabeth squealed with an arm out.
she happily took her from spencer’s hold and moved her away so you could talk with spencer. his puppy eyes and downturn mouth made your heart soar, oh how he’s gonna get you into so much trouble.
“you feeling better? your mom said it’s been a week.” pulling you into his hold, cheek pressed into his chest as his palms rubbed over your shoulder blades and spine. you sighed, “yeah, penny took me to the doctor. turns out i wasn’t sick… i was- i am pregnant.”
spencer’s hands stopped and leaned back, “what?” his brows raised into his curling locks. “how far along?” “three months…” biting into your bottom lip as you watched him go through his mental calendar. you both knew your period was irregular, that’s why you didn’t think anything of it.
“so it must’ve been sometime after annie’s fourth birthday,” spencer came to the conclusion. leaned in to peck your forehead, “are you okay with another?” always making sure you were okay with the decision.
you smiled up at him with a twinkle in your eyes, “absolutely.”

Sunday mornings always brought a certain calmness with them. Spencer was still half asleep when you kissed him goodbye, leaving for a little day trip with your friends when the sun was barely up.
Spencer mumbled something that should have sounded like I love you before he closed his eyes once more, looking forward to some father-daughter quality time with your wonderful kid Marie.
That was until he was awoken by shrill screams coming from her room.
You were long gone when Spencer jumped out of bed, all of his years working with the FBI having him expect the worst. He rushed into his daughter’s room, finding her sitting in her bed, a look of horror spread across her face.
“Are you okay!?” Spencer almost yelled when he reached her bedside.
His daughter slowly shook her head while pulling back the blanket, revealing small blood stains on her pajama pants and the sheets. It only took Spencer a split second to realize what was happening. His facial features softened instantly.
He thought he still had a few more months, maybe even another year, until this would happen. He had also hoped that you would be home for this occasion, certainly handling this a lot better than he ever could.
“Oh sweetie,” he cooed while sitting down on the edge of her bed. “I think you got your period.”
Instead of saying anything, Marie just buried her face in her hands and started wailing. Spencer wasn’t sure if she was still in shock or if the general discomfort made her cry.
“It’s okay. It just means you’re becoming a woman.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, he wished he could have taken them back. He hated the thought that his little girl was actually growing up more than anything. And it certainly didn't help in this moment.
Without thinking about it, he did what he was most comfortable with and started rambling, “We talked about this, do you remember? It means that your uterine lining is shedding which results in the discharge of blood through your–”
“Dad!” She cried. “Please stop talking about my… you know! It’s weird!”
“I’m sorry, I’ll stop.”
His little girl wiped away some tears from her cheeks before muttering, “Where’s mom? I wanna talk to her.”
Spencer sighed. He would have liked nothing more than to be able to let you take over right then. “She already left for her day trip. She won’t be home until six.”
This explanation only led to more crying. Spencer reached out his hand to offer comfort with a gentle touch on her arm but Marie shied away from him.
“I feel gross,” she whined.
“Why don’t you hop in the shower to get clean and then change into fresh clothes?”
It seemed like he finally said something helpful. Her sobs simmered down as she got up from her bed to walk over to the bathroom, locking the door behind her. Spencer quickly changed the sheets and put out some clean clothes for his daughter before disappearing in his bedroom.
He let out a loud breath as he reached for his phone to call you. Before you could say anything, he blurted out, “She got her period and won’t stop crying and I don’t know what to do!”
“Oh my poor girl! Is she with you right now?” You wanted to know.
“She’s in the shower. Can you please come home?”
You knew that he wasn’t being serious. A quiet laugh escaped our mouth before you said, “Don't be so dramatic, Spencer. I’m sure you're very capable of handling this.”
“I told her that her uterine lining was shedding. It was not helpful,” he sighed.
“Yeah, maybe hold off on the biology lesson for now. You know where my pads are, right?”
“Oh yeah, right. She's gonna need them.” Spencer paused for a second. “Oh god, what if she wants to use a tampon? I can’t explain that to her. That conversation will make the both of us cry.”
“Give her a pad for now, those are self-explanatory. I can talk to her about tampons later if she wants.”
“Okay, okay, yeah. She just turned off the shower, I gotta go!”
“Good luck! And stop panicking!”
That was easier said than done. Spencer almost jumped when he heard Marie knocking on the bedroom door.
“You can come in!”
His daughter, tightly wrapped in a bathrobe, stepped into the room. She had stopped crying but still seemed upset. Spencer’s heart always broke a little when he saw his little girl in discomfort.
“I’m still uhm…bleeding,” she whispered.
“Yes, that's gonna last a couple of days,” Spencer replied with a soft voice. He disappeared in the master bathroom for a second to get a pack of pads. “Here. Do you know how to use them?”
“I’m not an idiot, dad,” she snubbed.
The tone of her voice gave away how irritated she was. Usually Spencer would remind her to be more respectful but decided to let it slide this time.
“I know, Mimi. I just wanted to make sure,” he said instead.
The use of this nickname for his daughter was yet another reminder of a time that seemed so long gone right then. Marie had trouble pronouncing her own name as a toddler so she’d say Mimi instead. Spencer loved it so much that he stuck with it ever since.
Without saying another word, she disappeared in her room. Spencer rubbed his temples for a moment before getting ready for the day himself. He decided to give his daughter some space and prepare breakfast in the meantime.
He was focussed on not burning the chocolate chip pancakes he was making when Marie stepped into the kitchen.
“I’m sorry I snapped at you,” she mumbled.
Spencer turned his head to smile at his daughter. “It's okay, sweetie. I know you aren’t feeling well.”
She placed her hands on her lower stomach and muttered, “It hurts.”
“Here,” Spencer said as he reached for the hot water bottle he had already prepared. “Heat has a proven effect on relieving period cramps.”
“Thank you.”
A timid smile appeared on her face when she realized her father was preparing her favorite breakfast. She stepped closer to catch a glimpse of the pan while chirping, “Chocolate chip pancakes?”
“You know I’d do anything to make you feel better, Mimi,” Spencer spoke in a soft voice while offering his daughter a hug.
This time she accepted, tightly wrapping her arms around him. Spencer was relieved that he didn’t mess up yet another thing. Marie was very bright and realized something Spencer had thought about earlier, too.
“Wait,” she said as she stepped back. “You always make mom her favorite meal when she’s in a bad mood.”
“You have a lot in common with your mother, “ he explained. “I figured I should try what works for her.”
“Now you’ll have to deal with two cranky girls in the house,” Marie laughed while taking out two plates.
“I really don't mind,” he sincerely replied. “I can’t imagine what it’s like to have all kinds of uncomfortable side effects during your period. Taking care of your mom – and now you – is the least I could do.”
After a moment of silence she said, “Earlier you said that I’m becoming a woman now. I thought about that when I was in the shower… What if I don't wanna grow up yet?”
“I don’t know if that helps, but… You’ll always be my little girl,” Spencer responded while filling both plates with pancakes.
“So you’ll still watch Disney movies with me?”
A wide smile spread over Spencer’s face as he took the plates to walk over to the couch. “I was hoping you'd ask!”

Flight Frights (Request)
Katsuki Bakugou x Fem!Reader
Details/Warnings: katsuki gets a little emotional in this one, slight talks of death but nothing crazy
Word Count: 1.7k
hello thank you for this request :)) it was enough for me to work with so dont worry! i hope you like it 🩷
Tumblr media
"You sure you got everything?" Your boyfriend asked for the millionth time.
You rolled your eyes. "Yes, I have everything. You can even double check my bags!" You insisted.
He squinted and began looking through each of your bags silently. After a few minutes you looked at him smugly, "Are you going to tell me how perfect I am and that I didn't forget a single thing?"
Katsuki smirked, "Nah, I was gonna say you forgot your brain somewhere." He teased and gripped the top of your head lightly.
You smacked his hand away, "You're not funny, Katsuki." You laugh, despite your words.
"Yes I am and you know it."
The two of you continued to spend time together until it was time for you to go to the airport. You were visiting your parents in the states, so Katsuki was going to drive you to the airport and send you off.
When the time to go to the airport came, he drove you there and waited with you until you boarded the plane, which you felt bad about but appreciated a lot.
Some time later, a boarding announcement for your flight rang out loud through the speakers and you frowned at Katsuki.
"I'm gonna miss you." You said and hugged him tightly.
He hugged you back, "Yeah, I know."
"Stop it! Be serious."
He laughed and apologized, "I'll miss you too. Be safe on the plane and everywhere else, and don't talk to any fucking weirdos okay?"
You nodded and gave him a kiss, saying goodbye.
...
The time spent at your parents went well and you called and texted Katsuki as much as you could but it was hard, considering the time difference.
But like always, you managed to make it work.
As your trip neared it's end, your mother asked you if you were going to take the later flight like you planned.
"Jeez Mom. You trying to get rid of me already?" You teased her, making her pout at you.
"Oh stop it. You know that's not what I mean."
You smiled and said, "I know, it's just fun to mess with you," with a laugh, "but nah, I think I'm gonna take the earlier flight actually. I wanna surprise Katsuki, even if it's just a few hours earlier."
Your mom smiled at you, "That's sweet of you. I wish he could've come along with you..." She trailed off, making you a little jealous that your mom was wishing someone else came along too.
You crossed your arms, "Yeah well, he's busy with hero work, so he couldn't." You excused, "And besides, you should be glad it's just me! I missed you and Dad."
She smiled and patted your head. "Well of course I'm glad you're here! But I know you two must miss each other a lot. I know what it's like to be in love." She winked, and coincidentally your father walked in at the same time.
You both greeted him and continued talking about mundane things. You only had two days left with your parents, so you wanted to make them count more than the previous ones.
...
Fast forward to the day of your flight. Your parents took you to the earliest one at 5:00 am and said good bye to you, but not without some tears.
After sending you off with a lot of love, you were now on your way back home. You felt weird not texting your boyfriend about what you were doing, but you were still excited to surprise him. You wondered how he'd react.
You were a little nervous about how he'd react to you not answering his messages, since you wouldn't be able to text him regularly during the whole flight. Maybe he'd think you were sleeping in, since it was a likely scenario.
Ignoring your thoughts, you looked out the window at the raining sky and decided to fall asleep, hoping it would make the trip go by faster and thankfully it did.
...
Back in Japan 5 hours later
Katsuki had been on his phone mindlessly scrolling through his feed when suddenly a video caught his attention. It was a recent news post about a plane crash coming back to Japan from America.
"The flight had taken off at 10:00 am, and an hour into the flight the plane experienced a high amount of turbulence due to the unexpected weather conditions. Suddenly, the plane went crashing down-"
The news now had all of Katsuki's attention. He felt his heart racing in his chest and the world went silent, only the sound of his beating heart now filling his ears.
The plane that had crashed, was the flight you were on.
He felt as if time was slowing down as he watched the news. The news reporters had been describing just how bad the accident was, and he felt like he couldn't breathe.
There was no way you were hurt or even dead, right? You had to come back home to him. He had so many plans for your future. There's no way he'd be able to live life knowing he'd never get to act on them.
He grabbed his phone and clicked on your contact to call you but it went straight to voicemail. It was just because you had it on airplane mode right? They always make people turn that shit on.
He called again and again until he thought he was going to go crazy at the sound of the automated system's voice. He threw his phone across the bedroom and rubbed his hands through his sweaty hair.
After taking a few deep breaths, he got up and walked over to where his phone was and picked it up. Turning it over, he sighed at the large crack on the screen.
"Fuck..." He mumbled. Whatever. His phone didn't matter right now. What mattered was you and your safety. That damn phone was replaceable, but you weren't.
He continued to use his phone to call your mom, who was confused at his phone call.
"Hello Katsuki!" Your mother said.
"Hey, um-" He cut himself off to hold back tears. Fuck did your parents even know about what happened? Your mom sounded so happy, he didn't want to ruin it.
"Katsuki?" Your mother asked in a worried tone, "You okay, dear?"
He nodded, even though she couldn't see him. He wiped his eyes, "I'm fine. I was just calling to ask about Y/n."
"Oh! She should be fine. We dropped her off at the airport a while ago, so she's on her way back to you."
Holy crap. Your mom didn't even know about what happened. He couldn't tell her, there was no way. All he could do was thank her and hang up before he began to cry.
"God dammit." He cried.
Katsuki had never felt so defeated and devastated before. He continued to sit on your shared bed, eventually laying down in it and crying out for you. He didn't know what condition you were in right now, but like he was trained to do, he assumed the worse.
...
Hours later, you were finally off that cramped plane and on your way home. You couldn't wait to see Katsuki and the look on his face when you surprised him.
As you were driven home in an Uber, you were on your phone when a news report popped up. Curious, you clicked on it and found out that it was about the flight you were supposed to be on.
You put a hand over your mouth and thanked every god there was that you ended up on a different plane.
You closed the news article and focused on something else to distract you until you got home.
When you finally did, you giddily ran up the steps to your home and opened the door as quietly as you could. It was pretty early in Japan, so maybe Katsuki was still asleep.
Pulling in your luggage behind you, you took your shoes off and scampered around the house to look for your boyfriend. The house was so quiet, which was strange since his presence was so loud.
Tip-toeing into your bedroom, you awed silently at the sight of him sleeping. You snapped a quick picture and walked over to him, sitting on the bed next to him.
You reached out and stroked the top of his head, lightly scratching his scalp to wake him up. You frowned a bit when you noticed how irritated his eyes seemed. Maybe spring was getting to him already.
"Katsuki, wake up." You whispered.
He grumbled a bit in his sleep, shifting around a bit before finally opening his eyes.
You smiled and held one of his hands in both of yours, "Surprise! I'm home early."
He looked at you with a sleep clouded gaze for a second, and then shot up in bed.
"You're okay?! Oh my fucking god." He said and wrapped his arms around you in a bone crushing hug.
You hugged him back, "Of course I'm okay! Why wouldn't I be?"
He rested his face in the crook of your neck and said, "I-I thought you were hurt. I saw the news about the flight and it crashed!"
You frowned and hugged him tighter, "Oh Katsuki... I'm so sorry I didn't tell you anything." You pulled away slightly and placed your hands on his face, "I wanted to surprise you, so I got on an earlier flight."
He sighed and leaned his forehead onto yours, "Thank fuck you did. I would've brought you back to life and killed you myself if you died." He said, making you laugh now that his personality seemed to be back.
"Now cuddle me." He demanded and wrestled you lightly to lay you down next to him.
You gasped at his words, "Did you just admit you want to cuddle me?" You asked.
"Of course I do, woman. I haven't seen your ass in weeks." He said and laid his head on your chest, wrapping an arm around your waist, lightly stroking the skin there.
You moved around, trying to get into a comfortable position which made Katsuki groan.
He pinched one of your thighs, making you yelp, "Stop squirming. We're going to bed now."
You smiled, "Sorry love," and messed with his hair. "Can I put on a movie Kats?"
"Mmm."
You took that as a yes.
As you watched the movie, you continued massaging Katsuki's scalp and playing with his hair which made him eventually fall asleep. You smiled down at him, happy that he was now at peace compared to earlier.

Spilled milk, mismatched socks, wailing babies.
Gods, what you wouldn’t do for a moment of peace…
Your children were usually calm, even when they were tumbling down stairs and running into tables, but during your youngest twin kids teething phase, they developed an interest for chewing on anything. Their outburst put your two other kids in distress, making it a difficult period for everyone.
In your attempt to keep your twins safe, you unintentionally became the evil mother for denying them the joy of chewing on concrete bricks, their father’s important books and a million other dangerous things that a child simply shouldn’t be putting in their mouth.
They had been given enchanted teething toys made out of moonstone by their uncle Rhysand, but it didn’t keep them entertained at all. Safety was apparently too boring for them.
This morning was extra rough because Cassian had to leave early for a mission, leaving you with four kids. Although the two oldest ones, 7 and 12, could get themselves ready for the day, they still needed some help with some things. You were downright in a foul mood, feeling the weight of frustration and helplessness as the twins wailed and your oldest ones argued, all while trying to keep your emotions hidden.
“ You took the last pancake, Ves!” your son angrily sliced the remains of his food as your daughter, Vesna, looked at him with anger. “ I don’t care. I told you that I wanted it and you made no move for it, Therian. Blame yourself and be quicker next time.” she bickered back. They kept arguing about that stupid pancake as you picked your twins and moved to the rocking chair across the livingroom to sooth them. The kitchen seamlessly flowed into the living room, creating an open floor plan that allowed you to effortlessly monitor Vesna and Therian.
“ It’s okay, babies. There we go, hush now.” But it didn’t work, they kept screaming and you were at your breaking point. You felt like the worst mom ever as you looked up, took a deep breath and blinked back tears.
You almost yearned for Cassian's return, craving the comfort of your mate's presence amid the chaos. Yet, the nagging self-doubt held you back, hesitant to burden him with your distress and feeling a twinge of selfishness in the idea of asking him to cut short his mission. Despite the internal struggle, you chose to tough it out, convincing yourself that countless women had faced similar challenges, wondering if you could measure up to their strength.
Unbeknownst to you, you had been signaling Cassian with your feelings through the bond since this morning. He was already on his way back the moment your emotions reached him. He was just in time to hear your daughter’s frustration directed towards you, though none of you had felt his presence or heard him approach your home.
“Mom, you're seriously failing at shutting them up. It's not dragon taming to handle two kids, and it shouldn't be this painful for the rest of us. How about you take them outside and only come back when you've figured out how to keep them quiet? Because none of us can stand the noise.” You looked at her stunned as a million thoughts went through your head. Guilt, anger and self-doubt took root inside you.
Guilt, because was she right? Anger, because she shouldn’t have spoken to you like that ever. Self-doubt, because your fears and feelings about motherhood were spoken out loud.
Your first-born had a sour expression on her face that quickly fell before she looked down at her plate sheepishly. Maybe she felt regret? But what made her react like that instantly? Your daughter could be hotheaded and it usually took her a few hours to calm down, but not this quick.
Looking at where she removed her eyes from, you look and see your husband, body tense and wings tucked in tightly. You felt immediate comfort and wanted to throw yourself in his arms and fucking cry. How you had missed him this much in only a few hours was a mystery.
His boots thudded heavily against the wooden floors as he approached your embarrassed daughter. “Look at me,” was all he needed to say before Vesna reluctantly lifted her head. She knew he was going to chew her out. He clenched his jaw in anger as he looked down at her. “Your lack of empathy for what your mother is dealing with right now is astounding. Instead of criticizing, maybe you should try contributing to the solution. We're a family, and we handle things together, not by throwing blame around. She's your mother, but remember that she's my mate and wife first, and no one speaks to my mate and wife with disrespect ever, not even you. Now go ahead and apologize to her.”
Your husband, ever the general.
With teary eyes, realizing the gravity of her words, Vesna approached you. “Hey, Mommy,” she mumbled, avoiding eye contact. She hadn’t called you mommy in forever. “I... I shouldn't have said those things. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be so harsh. I know it must be difficult and my anger took over. I really love you and I’m sorry.”
You were a bit surprised by the apology and softened your expression before replying, “It's okay, sweetheart. We all have our moments. Just remember, we're a team, and we need to support each other.” She nodded, still feeling a bit guilty, and said, “I'll try to do better. Can I help you with anything now?”
A genuine smile appeared on your face as your replied, “That would be wonderful. Let's work together to make things smoother for everyone. How about you start clearing the table and Therian picks up things from the floor.” She nodded and gave you a small kiss on the cheek before hurriedly making her way back to the kitchen table. Cassian gave her a kiss on the head and gave her a proud smile.  “I’m glad you apologized, and it takes courage to admit when we’re wrong. Let’s move forward now. Your willingness to help now means a lot. Thank you.”
Feeling the tension ease after the daughter's apology, your mate approached you. He gently placed a hand on your shoulder and said, “Hi pretty.” You look up at him with a thankful smile. “Hi lover.” He smiles right back at you. “I know it's been a rough day. I’m so proud of you, sugar. We'll get through this together. How about you go upstairs and soak in the tub while I take care of the kids.” He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss on your forehead, and wrapped his arms around the twins who had gone quiet.
Feeling reassured by Cassian’s comforting words, you smiled appreciatively. You gave him a tender kiss in thanks before scurrying upstairs, grateful for the support and unity he provided for your family.
As you undressed, a delightful surprise caught your eye – the tub was filled, and a slice of your favorite cake awaited you on a nearby table. Gratefully, you thanked The House for the steaming tub and the unexpected treat. Stepping in, you let the heat envelop you, soothing the tension in your muscles. Time seemed to blur as you relaxed in the warm water — minutes or hours, it was hard to keep track. Exhaustion gradually overcame you, and your eyelids grew heavy in the comforting embrace of the tub, a sweet slice of cake adding to the calmness of the moment.
Entering the room, Cassian caught sight of you in the steaming tub, content and relaxed. A mixture of emotions flooded over him – admiration and a deep love that seemed to intensify in this quiet scene. He approached silently, not wanting to disturb the serene moment. Gently, he reached out to stroke your hair, his eyes reflecting the warmth and affection he felt. In that intimate moment, a silent understanding passed between you, affirming that you’d never be alone ever. You’d be there for each other and it made your heart swell.
Curiosity lit up your eyes, you looked at your husband and asked, “Hey, where are the kids? Did you take care of them?”
A gentle smile played on his lips as he revealed, “Actually, Rhysie and Feyre picked them up. They thought we could use a quiet weekend, just the two of us. They’re taking Nyx, Ves and Theiran on a trip up the mountains but the twins are staying at the River House with Elain and Lucien. She made a special herbal blend that helps their gums, it’s all very Elain.”
Surprise and gratitude washed over you as you processed the thoughtful gesture. “That's so sweet of them, you remarked, a genuine smile forming. “A quiet day sounds perfect.” You exchanged a glance, appreciating the unexpected silence given by thoughtful friends.
“So, are we entirely alone for the entire weekend?” You attempted to conceal your smile as warmth surged in your belly upon meeting Cassian's gaze, only to discover him returning a heated look. “Indeed, sweetness. It's just you and me, alone. Whatever shall we do to pass the time?” His commanding, taunting voice always managed to drive you crazy. He had a charming voice that you could listen to forever. “I can think of a few ways…” you responded as you stood up, dripping wet. You beckoned him closer  and deeply inhaled his delicious scent. He smelled like home. Throwing your arms around him, you inched your lips closer to his, teasing him, not letting him get close enough for a real kiss. He frowned and slightly pouted. “Either give a proper kiss or I walk away.” You knew it was a false threat. Cassian wouldn’t ever leave your embrace now that he was turned on.
But you decided to keep playing with him, wanting to see how far you could push him.
“Yeah? Walk away then, baby.” You let your arms drop to the side, slightly tilting your head with a small smirk on your lips. You felt a surge of amusement as you observed him, jaw tight and knuckles white from clenching, meeting your gaze with defiant determination. “Stop fucking with me, y/n/n. You want me as much as I do.” It was his turn to return a mocking smirk. “ What, you think I don’t know you by now? You think I don’t know that you wanna be fucked until you can’t think straight? Little one, I have years on you. I know your body better than you. I’ll ask again. Are you going to kiss me properly or do I walk away?”
Fucking hell. He really did know your body better than you since his words only fueled you on. While you enjoyed toying with him, it was time to throw in the towel. No way where you wasting any more time. With hands behind your back you looked up at him, doe-eyed and blushy. “I’ll give you a proper kiss, Cassie. Then please take me to bed.” He smiled down at you with a devilish smile, putting his hand on your hips as he pulled towards his warm chest. “ Whatever my baby wants, she gets.” With hands on his chest, you stood on your toes as water swished around your legs, putting your plush lips against his soft ones.
Careful, gentle, loving, comforting and really fucking hot.
That was all you could think of when you were kissing him. One of his warm hands roamed all over your body as his other one cupped your face, deepening the kiss. Your own hands stayed in one spot, your favorite place to put your hands. His chest. You absolutely loved touching his chest. Giving his pecs a light squeeze, resting against them, anything really. Centuries of honing his body into a weapon had made him look like a god.
You wanted to dry off and move to your bedroom, and as if Cassian had read your thoughts, he grabbed the towel without breaking the kiss and wrapped it around you. He simply picked you up, wrapping your legs around his waist as he moved to the bedroom before gently lowering you to the soft bed. Cassian caught your wrists and pinned them, crisscrossed, above your head while he settled between your legs, once again wrapping them around his waist. You kissed until your lips swelled and pulled away for air.
He forced your legs apart, hand cupping your pussy. You let out a gasp, quickly gripping onto his broad shoulders. Cassian carefully watched your face as it contorted into pleasure when he pushed in two fingers, your eyes rolling into the back of your head as you let out a moan.
“Feels good, wifey? ” Cassian asked as your nails dug into his shoulders, hips bucking into his touch. “ mhmm, yeah it feels really fucking good.” you managed to respond as you felt his fingers speed up, curling into that delicious spot that made you absolutely melt.
He wanted to be inside of you, fuck you and ruin you all over the sheets. “ It would feel a lot better  if I had you wrapped around my cock.” He said, looking up at you through is his dark lashes, eyes full of mirth. You clenched around his fingers at the thought of him filling you up with his thick cock. It had been a while since you had been properly dicked down by him, since you two were busy with life and kids. Quickies, fingering and handjobs were all you had time for since the twins were born 6 months ago. As much as you loved your kids, you also loved alone time with your mate and it was rare these days. So of course you’d use this weekend to get fucked, and maybe that would help you relax a bit. Cassians cock had always been the answer for you.
Mad? Get dicked down. Sad? Get dicked down. Happy? Get dicked down.
Huh.
No wonder you had four kids…
You nodded eagerly at him, “ Please cassie, fill me up. I really need it.” He sat up, dumped his clothes on the floor and positioned his cock infront of your throbbing core, teasing a bit. He used his fingers to scissor you open a bit. When you felt even more slick under his touch he retracted his fingers and licked your wetness off of them. He smiled at around his fingers and said, “Delicious.” Your chuckle morphed seamlessly into a moan when he slammed his lenght into you.
He let out a sound of pleasure as he pushed himself into you. You clenched around his cock, you were so wet and slippery around him. He let out a pleased groan as he started giving you deep strokes. His pace quickened with the intention of finishing inside of you. He loved to make a mess of your pussy like that, fuck you full of his cum and watch it slowly drip out. Nothing made him more possessive than seeing his mate full of his cum. “Fuck, you’re taking me so well, sweetheart. Such a good girl for me, I’m so proud of you, my beautiful girl.” He knew the exact words you needed today and it made you feel so emotional that he knew you this well.
You blushed. Pleasure crept up your spine once more. Your legs were starting to shake, sweat coated your back. He pulled you into his arms and kissed you as his strokes were getting faster and faster, his lips muffling your moans. He kept up the pace, feeling the pleasure flow through his body, bringing him closer to climax. He loved the feeling of you around him.
He was addicted to it. He was addicted to you.
You moaned and arched your back as he continued to fuck into you. You wanted to cum so badly, and as if Cassian once again read your mind, he said something that almost made you cry.
“ Don’t cum yet.”
He must have caught your annoyed stare because he looked down, sporting his usual grin, and said, “I want us to come together. You can handle that, right, pretty?” Your brows furrowed as you attempted to feign annoyance, though deep down, you weren't truly bothered at all.
No, no you weren’t mad at all because if he was adamant about you finishing together, then you’d do everything in your power to make it happen. You got closer to him, pressing a quick kiss before deepening it as your tounges swirled around each other before you pulled away, biting his lip. He let out a groan and it only spurred you on. You pulled out all your tricks, whispering downright filthy things in his ear. That seemed to do the trick. Cassian thrusted deeper and deeper, rubbing tight circles on your neglected clit before you came in unison.
You moaned at the feeling, warmth filled you as his pace started to slow down. Your mate collapsed on top of you and your put his head on your chest as you ran your fingers through his hair. He remembered that he hadn’t pulled out yet but before he could you stopped him.
“ Please baby, don’t pull out yet. It feels really warm and good and I want you in me forever.”
You felt his chest rumble with a gentle laughter. “ Whatever you want, you shall have. You did so well, sugar. I love you.” You kissed his forehead and gave him praise back. “ Thank you, baby. I’m so happy you’re here, I love you too.”
Safe to say you fucked the whole weekend, everywhere, only taking breaks for food and occasional naps. But you also basked in the intimacy of having him. by yourself. Eating together, talking about everything between the heavens and earth, cracking jokes and just enjoying yourselves.
You and your mate, together for all eternity...

Dp x DC AU: Danny didn't want to rely on his rogues, but Tucker's computer skills only got them so far and if the media black out continues... Danny knows it's not going to be pretty for them. Nightmares begin to plague the Justice League.
---
Danny gets back from a shitty conversation with Clockwork and in his frustration, accidentally sets off one of the new GIW sensors that his parents allowed to be installed in the lab. Their collaboration seemed to be going no where but when Danny had new holes blasted through him... it must be going somewhere. Damn it.
The commotion is loud enough that Jazz hears it from her room above the lab (he knows she listens to more than just the lab... it's cause she cares, even if it is a bit invasive.) and rushes in to play the distraction while Danny gets away. This time it works- the Drs. Fenton might have the worst aim in the city but they demand all shots cease if a civilian is nearby- Next time his mom might be aiming her gun at him and not the ground. Danny decides he'll buy Jazz a coffee on his way home.
But first, new holes. Yikes. That like, needs medical attention- He heads to Tucker's place and he's pretty sure Sam is already there.
"Danny! What the fuck, did Clockwork-" She starts, her meticulous cat eyeliner making her glare all the deeper.
"Nah, it's the stupid GIW sensor, the stupid one I told you guys about that has a spring lose in the back?"
"I thought we decided those weren't a concern?" Tucker looks him over, face covered in undisguised and very blatant concern.
"Yeah well, Clocky pissed me off so I forgot about them when I came back in through the lab portal-"
"you were supposed to be practicing making your own." Sam interrupts.
"-And when I did, the thing got knocked and I was swatted like immediately. Jazz launched herself into the lab so Mom made them stop shooting and it gave me enough time to get out." Danny continued to explain, ignoring his friend's 'i told you so' faces.
"Dude. We're pushing it close this week. Sam already had a confrontation with the lab guys and I already got blacklisted on my new persona accounts. We're like seriously threading the needle for getting caught." Tucker, pulls his glasses down to pinch the bridge of his nose and Danny and Sam both get what he's really saying. They need to lie low.
"What did CW say to piss you off?" Sam asks after a silent moment.
"He said nothing really, just like he always does, but insinuated I should try getting a rogue to help." Danny sighs.
"What, Like getting Ember to announce the GIW invasion on her tour? We already agreed that-" Sam is getting angry as she speaks so Tuck cuts her off- "It's a bad Idea. She is- They are all just as likely to get captured and hurt as you are if you go out of town." He comes to the same conclusion they've agreed on for weeks. No rogue involvement.
"Maybe we just need to sleep on it... Hey... wait." Danny sighs, but then his gears start to turn.
"Nocturn. We need Nocturn to help us. He can get the message out through dreams." Danny comes to the new conclusion and his friends look hesitant but at least like they're considering it.
"Isn't he an ancient? He's not going to help us for free." Tucker, ever the Egyptian god in these moments.
"Most people don't take their dreams literally." Sam, ever the skeptic in these moments.
"Yeah but, if they dream it enough times, and they're the right people to do something... they can look it up and then at least see that there is a problem?" Danny sounds hopeful and its the first time he's sounded that way in months.
"What, you're gunna give Batman nightmares?" Tucker snickers but Sam looks inspired.
"That's exactly what he's going to do. We need to haunt the Justice League. They'll see past the fake facade the GIW put up online and they'll be able to get the right legislation passed." Sam is practically buzzing.
"Okay, so lets get scheming- What do you get the primordial beast of the unconscious? Should I google 'what to get someone who has everything'? " Danny laughs.
_____
Bruce and his children rarely do feelings when they have breakfast in the morning after a night of separate patrols, but it seems as though the room is plagued with unease. Tim looks about as tired as ever, so his unease is probably attributable to WE board meetings, but its unlike the rest of his children to be so... disturbed. For some reason, after Alfred has excused them all from eating more than a few nibbles, they make it to the cave. Bruce is glad for the noise his children bring.
The nightmare's he's been having are following a dark plot. A town, a boy who looks like he was kin, and so, so much death. Bruce has had vivid dreams before in life, but this nightmare is... unreal. He tries to remind himself that it's just a nightmare.
When his JL emergency communicator goes off at the computer desk, he's not expecting it to be Dinah Lance. She and her Birds are typically wary of him in Gotham, even if they work well together in the League. He answers it like he would any Batman call, with silence.
"Bats, we have a problem. Any chance you've been having weird dreams about a kid getting experimented on or a town being burned down? Ghosts? Lazarus portals?" Dinah sounds exhausted, but Bruce snaps to her voice with rapt attention. As do all of his children.
"I-" Bruce takes a look around the room, everyone's heads except for Tim's nodding up and down with distress," We all have."
"Something tells me that they whole JL is. Everyone I've talked to this week has had a variation of the same dream. We either have a telepath trying to tell us something, or something even worse than that."
"I'll call emergency meeting, we need to collect details and try to determine the complete message."
"I'll send you what I've noted down so far, sans personal details of course, it's definitely in a town called Amity Park though. My client this morning saw the sign."
Batman grunts and the call ends. It's time to get to work.
----
When the Justice League finally arrives, the town is glowing, and everything feels like... sleep. smothering. snoring. smoking. smoldering.
And then, despite the exhaustion that echos within them, the trudge onwards. The noise of laser guns certainly wakes them up a bit.

100 songs to get to know me
Tumblr media
I posted this image over on the bluesky, and it got like 100 likes, so now here we are. I was going to write them all up here, but Tumblr imposes a 10 video limit on embeds per post which I find infuriating.
So! You can read the first ten entries here, but you can read the entire list here: https://tbskyen.bearblog.dev/100-songs-to-get-to-know-me/
1. ABBA - Lay All Your Love On Me
youtube
I genuinely don't quite know if my enjoyment of ABBA is something I came by honestly, or something which is simply genetically engineered into my Scandinavian soul. I remember hearing my mom blasting their songs on the home stereo in my childhood, and the association has put permanent nostalgia blinders on me for all of ABBA's greatest hits. Still, I think the beat is undeniable and the mournful tone of the chorus adds some real melancholy to the dramatic plea at the core of the song.
2. Afenginn - Oestrogenmanipuleret Basilisk
youtube
Afenginn describe themselves as "bastard etno-punk" which is probably as good a description as you're going to get. There's a lot of klezmer and eastern European folk influences here, but what is more important about Afenginn's best songs is that they go hard as f*ck and it's an absolute blast to dance to them at a show. They played this the first time I saw them live, and the rhythm comes back every time I hear it again. Good times!
3. Afenginn - Ralli in D Minor
youtube
With 100 slots to fill, I am giving myself permission to allocate two slots to Afenginn, and for the same reason. Ralli in D Minor is less of a dance tune to me, and more of a headbanger, but with a sufficiently loud subwoofer and a game crowd, you could f*ing mosh to this.
4. Anamanaguchi - Prom Night
youtube
I discovered Anamanaguchi as the composers of the title track to the Nerdist podcast back in the day, and being unfamiliar with the concept of chiptunes, I was drawn in initially by the sheer novelty of hearing the squeaks and bloops of my gaming childhood employed towards rock tunes and combined with "real" instruments.
Beyond the gimmick, though, Anamanaguchi won me over fully with the Scott Pilgrim game soundtrack, and then 2013's Endless Fantasy, where the gimmick of chiptune nostalgia noise (at least for me) finally coalesced into something that felt entirely like its own thing. Plus I'm a sucker for exactly this kind of bright dance pop, and Bianca Raquel's vocals here are a perfect match for the tone of the music.
5. Jennifer Hudson - Memory
youtube
2019s Cats is a fascinating fucking disaster. Tom Hooper is the worst director of musicals in my living memory, the abuse of the VFX staff extended beyond brutal crunch and absurd challenge imposed by a director who had no idea what the hell he was asking them to do all the way into an astonishingly arrogant and condescending joke from Rebel Wilson and James Corden at the expense of workers who were the last people at fault for the disaster that the movie became (look in the fucking mirror, Wilson and Corden, your performances were rancid).
Still, the silver lining of Cats is we got to hear Jennifer Hudson shake the world on its foundations with her rendition of Memory. I don't give a shit what anyone says, this performance is transcendent and no amount of institutional failure can dim its quality.
6. Annette Bjergfeldt - Min Bærende Bjælke
youtube
Annette is one of my mother's oldest friends, and a prolific singer-songwriter now turned author. I've been going to her concerts since I was a little child, and while I am absolutely not the target audience for any of it, it has stuck with me as part of my musical vocabulary deep into adulthood.
She has experimented with brass band accompaniment a few times, but for my money, nothing quite comes close to the floating, optimistic vibe of Min Bærende Bjælke. It sounds like a very particular kind of lasting romance, which of course is also what the lyrics are about.
7. Hozier - Blood Upon the Snow
youtube
We'll get more than one Hozier song on this list, but Blood Upon the Snow stands out to me as a song which easily transcends the videogame soundtrack promotional tie-in nature of its conception. Bear McCreary's hurdy gurdy and lyrics about surviving through adversity by holding on to existence with your teeth and nails... yeah, it hits with me. There's something real in that.
"The trees deny themselves nothing that makes them grow, no rainfall, no sunshine, no blood upon the snow." Something about that feels real.
8. The Beatles - Something
youtube
idk if I really need to write anything about George Harrison's most famous love song that hasn't been written more extensively by a million dad-rock enthusiasts before me.
I will say, this is one of the few songs I listen to regularly that justify the expensive audiophile headphones I invest in. There's a LOT to hear on a good, lossless, original mix of this song, if you're the kind of pervert who gets off to listening to a song a hundred times to focus on different parts of the soundscape. (it's me, I am the pervert)
9. Blink-182 - Adam's Song
youtube
I discovered a lot of my music taste as a young man from extremely low-resolution AMVs that my friend used to download off sketchy file-sharing sites. Blink-182 entered my musical lexicon through the one above, specifically, piggybacking off of my teenage love of Dragon Ball.
I never really grokked what the lyrics were actually about, until relistening to the song years later, but something about the minor-key wail of the thing really sat with my angsty teenage soul and has stuck with me ever since. I cannot listen to this song without that music video playing in my head, the song will forever belong to Vegeta.
There's remastered versions of this AMV out there, apparently, but if it's not 144p with tinny audio, it's just not right. That's not what the song is supposed to sound like, not to me.
10. Blink-182 - Miss You
youtube
Blink-182 is one of those bands I discovered via anime AMVs and listened to obsessively for a period as a teenager (The Offspring will show up later on this list), and then fell entirely out of touch with for years until discovering much later in life that they did, in fact, keep releasing music. I Miss You from their self-titled 2003 album felt, when I discovered it sometime in the early 2010s, like a much more mature and interesting sound from a band which had gotten stuck associated with my adolescent superpower kung-fu fantasies which I was, at the time, feeling a bit embarrassed about.
The song had a resurgence on TikTok a little while ago as a meme template, which made me listen to the albums again, and rediscover yet again that Blink-182 is, in fact, still putting out albums.

to all the girls you've loved before part 1
author's note: hi! remember that time i wrote jack fics? well i'm branching out, so BUCKLE UP BABY. it should be said that this will be multiple parts, i don't know how many though so again, buckle up. also i'm pretending the trade never happened
pairing: single dad!mat barzal x reader
summary: being a nanny for rich people was probably the worst thing that ever happened to you, until you started working for mat.
warnings: children, rich people, mentions of absent parent
Tumblr media
mat barzal. nearly everyone in new york was obsessed with him, you knew him by the awkward elevator interactions when you were leaving work and he was getting home.
you nannied for a family in his building, a mom named erin who was rarely home with two really sweet children, ages 2 and 4.
you didn't even know his name until a few weeks after he moved in when erin mentioned his name in passing conversation, saying something about an nhl player living across the hall.
"i think he's around your age," she said with a sly smirk. "and handsome too, introduced himself to the kids too. such a sweetheart."
"erin," you started. "you can't possibly know he's a sweetheart from one two second interaction."
she tsked and waved you off. "first impressions have a great impact."
you met him when you were getting off the elevator. he had a duffle bag slung over one shoulder and wore a suit, his hair was wet and strewn about in every direction. you were in a pair of sweats to combat the cold.
he mumbled a small hey and made a pathetic excuse for a smile as he waited for you to get off the elevator.
everything you knew about him, you gleaned involuntarily. he must suck at cooking given the amount of times the smoke detector would go off in his place, you could hear the beeping through the walls. and his lack of cooking skills took shape in the trash bags filled with take out boxes that he loudly dumped in the trash chute. you even knew he had a best friend named "tito" from the shouting that erupted every time said friend came over.
you thought nothing of him aside from the mild annoyance at his loud noises.
it wasn't until the fall came and the two year old turned three (and therefore went off to preschool) that things changed.
you'd just settled into your pajamas when erin called asking you to come over.
"is everything alright?" you asked.
"you remember mat?"
"hardly."
she laughed through the phone, though it sounded a little strained. "can you come over? he's found himself in a bit of a situation."
you paused. "what kind of situation?"
spoiler alert: it was an eight month old baby girl kind of situation.
mat was sitting on erin's couch while the baby, whose name was apparently ella, snoozed away in the pack and play when you walked in.
erin explained the situation as you took a seat. something about a fling he had that resulted in a pregnancy (obviously) and the mom decided parenting just wasn't for her so she dropped the baby off with mat and has blocked him on all forms of communication.
erin leant some things like a pack and play for ella to sleep in until he got a crib. but he didn't need that as much as he needed you.
a nanny.
"i know you already have a job, but i can pay well and pay you more for watching all three kids when you have them," mat begged. "i know i have late games so it would require late nights but you can sleep in the guest room if you'd like and i might be gone for a week at a time, but you can invite friends over to hang out and--"
you held up a hand. listening to the man beg and plead for your help was almost heartbreaking. "i'll do it."
he sat back. "what, really?"
you furrowed your brows. "is that a problem?"
mat shook his head. "no! sorry, i was just surprised you'd agree so quickly.
"well, it's not like it would interfere with my time with erin's girls. i could watch your baby during the day and take her to pick up the girls from school and keep ella until you get back."
he still looked unsure. "i work late nights sometimes, is that a problem?"
you thought about the fact your schedule has been empty for the past few months, that the only reason you leave your shitty apartment was because erin needed you to nanny. "i think i can manage."
he smiled for the first time that evening, looking almost near tears. "thank you thank you thank you," he said.
you nodded, a little overwhelmed by his sudden change in demeanor. "when do i start?"
day one
you hesitantly walked into mat's big ass apartment to the sound of a screaming baby.
it was six in the morning.
mat ran into the living room, hair askew, clothes wrinkled, but his baby was in a clean set of pajamas with tears running down her face.
"i don't know what's wrong," he said frantically. "she woke up and i changed her diaper but she's still crying."
you dropped your bag on the floor and made your way over to him, taking ella out of his arms and immediately bouncing her in your own. "she's probably hungry," you guessed.
"i tried that! i put the bottle in the microwave but when i gave it to her she started crying harder and--"
"wait," you stopped him. "you put the bottle in the microwave?" he nodded. "with the formula?" he nodded again. "mat, you can't do that. heat the water separately and then add the formula. and then test it on your wrist to make sure it's the right temperature." you walked into the kitchen and prepared the bottle the right way, showing mat how to do it as you went.
when all was said and done, you placed the new bottle in ella's mouth and watched as she took it without issue.
mat's shoulders sagged in relief. "you're a miracle worker."
you gave him a sheepish smile. "you can go get ready, mat. i've got her from here." he nodded and hurried towards what you assumed was his bedroom while you walked over to the couch to sit down.
ella was a cute baby, you'd give her that. no doubt taking after her father. she looked at you with wide eyes as she drank her bottle, her irises never left your face. it would've been unnerving if she had been an adult.
mat came out a little less frazzled ten minutes later. ella had finished her bottle at that point and the both of you were laid on the floor doing tummy time.
"what's that?" he pointed to the two of you once he stopped running his hands through his hair.
"what's what?"
"what's that you're doing?" he gestured again before placing his hands on his hips.
"tummy time," you smiled. "it helps build her neck muscles. also helps prevent flat spots on the back of her head."
you didn't like to judge people for their skin color, because it's racist, but you didn't think it was possible for mat to be paler until you spoke.
"she could get flat spots?"
you hung your head as ella babbled to herself.
it was going to be a long employment.
day ten
you'd finally gotten mat on a rhythm, he looked a little less scared with every day that you came over.
but today was different.
he was going on an eight day roadie which meant you would be watching her overnight several nights in a row (on top of erin's kids).
you'd done much harder jobs before, so you weren't nervous about the time you spent with ella, it was more so you feared all the confidence you built in the week or so you'd worked for mat would disappear when he came back and realized he had an eighteen year commitment waiting at home for him.
"you have my number, right?" he asked even though you got it the night you accepted the position.
"yes, mat," you said instead.
"and you'll text me if anything goes wrong?"
you nodded. you bounced ella on your hip and held her hand up. "bye dada," you said for her, smiling as she did.
mat's bags were stationed by the front door, but he made no move towards them. he stayed planted in front of you, but his hands fidgeted.
"can i--" he cleared his throat. "can i hold her?"
"of course!" you didn't hesitate to pass her off to mat, who handled her like precious cargo, but was still a little unsure about the entire situation.
once she was settled, he took his eyes off her to look at you. "you know where the guest room is, right?" you nodded. "right, just make yourself at home. i stocked the fridge, i have just about every streaming service, so you should be fine." he paused. "but if you aren't--"
"mat--"
"--you can just text me if you need anything, alright?" he turned his head to focus on ella who took her hands to slap to his cheeks. "and you be good, okay baby?" his voice pitched higher right before he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.
you checked your watch to keep yourself from intruding on what felt like a special moment. "mat," you started. "you should get going before you're late."
he nodded and pressed one last kiss to the top of ella's head before passing her back to you. "i'll facetime you when i get to the hotel, okay? so i can tell her goodnight?"
you nodded and left out the part that she would probably be asleep because honestly, you weren't expecting him to remember.
"alright," he said, wiping his hands on his pants before making his way to the front door where his bags sat. "i'll see you in a week."
"bye bye dada," you said in a high squeaky voice, using ella's hand to wave just like before.
he smiled before walking out the door and locking it behind him.
day fourteen
it wasn't until halfway through mat's roadie that weariness settled in. you were constantly surrounded by children, which normally wouldn't be an issue, but between ella and erin's two kids, you were practically a full time single parent.
which sucked because it wasn't even like you got laid to even create this issue.
mat, though, true to his word, facetimed every night he possibly could. he smiled wide every time he saw ella's face and while she was confused at how your phone worked, ella smiled and laughed at the sound of her father's voice.
"what have you been up to?" he asked one evening. you were spoon feeding ella sweet potato puree for dinner while he was laying in bed in his hotel room.
"nothing really, we went to the park today, she was really happy to see a few dogs."
mat grumbled. "certainly didn't get that from me."
you couldn't help it, you smiled at his pout.
"is that--" he guffawed. "did i make you smile?"
you rolled your eyes. "i'm sure i've smiled at you before."
"you haven't!"
"and i don't blame you!" another voice piped in. "he's not funny."
when mat saw the look on your face, he sighed. "that's tito," he said like that explained everything.
"nice to meet you, tito!" you called.
"is that your nanny?" you heard him call. "can i say hi to ella?"
mat rolled his eyes but moved the camera to show you a good looking man lounging in the other bed. he was handsome in a way that mat wasn't. you couldn't really compare one to the other in the same way you couldn't compare an apple to quantum physics.
"ella can you say hi?" you asked in a small voice. ella spared a single glance to camera before screaming. you laughed before spoon feeding her more puree. "sorry," you started. "she does that sometimes."
tito looked terrified but covered it up quickly when mat cleared his throat. "she just screams randomly?"
you shrugged. "usually when she's excited or frustrated."
tito laid back in his bed and started scrolling on his phone. "babies, man."
mat came back into view. his head rested back on his pillow as he held the camera above his face. "are you both doing okay?"
you opened your mouth to reply but tito cut him off.
"you don't need to ask her that everyday!" he said.
you couldn't see what he did, but judging by the shaking of the camera and the cackle that escaped tito's lips, you'd give your left leg and say he flipped his best friend off.
you took your eyes off the camera to look at ella who was using her puree covered hands to rub at her eyes. you put your phone down and grabbed a napkin to immediately start wiping her face and hands.
"is everything okay?" mat asked. "did i lose you?"
"just had to put the phone down to clean her up. she's getting sleepy." you pulled ella out of her high chair, resolving to clean it up later, and picked your phone up.
mat's face lit back up when ella came into view. "hi baby girl," he smiled. "are you getting ready to go to bed?"
ella rested her head on your shoulder and yawned.
"well, i'll let you two go," mat sighed. "i love you, ella bean." he directed his gaze to you. "same time tomorrow?"
"i'll let you know if anything changes."
"night."
"night, mat."
he ended the call and left you to take ella to bed.
day twenty-seven
nearly a month into working for mat and everything was going great. ella had gotten used to you which meant she knew you would come back when you left the room. the first two weeks, she cried every time you left. and if you had to guess, it probably had something to do with how her mother treated her.
and mat, well, he was embracing the father role well enough for someone who thought he was an unattached bachelor not even a month ago.
as far as you go, you were still getting used to the workload of erin's kids and ella. and while you would never breathe a word of it to anyone, you preferred ella over erin's kids.
your roommate and your boyfriend took some time to adjust to your new hours, but your roommate was excited when you contributed more to groceries and apartment needs. as far as your boyfriend went, he was still getting used to the idea of you being gone all day and sometimes even weekends, but even he admitted ella was the cutest baby he'd ever seen.
you were plating yogurt and some smashed peaches for her morning snack while holding her on your hip when mat walked in the kitchen, hair wet from a shower.
"hey," he said. "how is she?"
at the sound of his voice, ella turned in your arms and made a grabby motion for him. "you tell me," you said, handing her off to him. almost immediately, ella rested her head in the crook of his neck and popped a thumb in her mouth.
a smile crossed his face at the way ella fit so perfectly into the lines of his body.
"you're good at this," you remarked.
he laughed. "i have no idea what i'm doing."
"does anyone?"
"you seem to have it figured out."
the laugh was out of your mouth before you could stop it. "well then, let me go audition for broadway. i'm a better actress than i thought."
neither of you said a word, but you continued to stare at each other until his phone dinged. mat shifted ella around until he could fish his phone out of his pocket. "oh it's my mom." he scrolled through the texts when a figurative lightbulb appeared over his head.
"what?" you asked.
"my family is coming into town to meet ella next week so that might affect the hours you have." a flash of panic must've been present on your face because he quickly spoke again. "but your pay will still be the same! i don't want you to worry about that at all. i might still need you throughout the week."
"okay!" you smiled before moving ella's morning snack to her high chair. mat peeled her off of him and placed her in the seat before taking the chair next to hers.
his phone dinged again.
"oh," he said.
"what is it?"
"my mom wants to meet you."
"oh."

Tea and Toast
Eddie Munson X Reader

Word Count : 1.1k
Tumblr media

A/N : This one is a heavy one, so please don’t read if you don’t feel comfortable 🤍
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“Baby,” you hear, brain foggy with sleep. Whining in reply, you try to block out the noise. “Sweetheart,” you feel your body being shook.
You’re awake, rubbing your eyes, to wake up your mind. Looking around in the darkness you find Eddie. “Hey,” you say, voice thick with sleep.
Pushing up, you look at him, leaning over to your lamp. He stops your hand. “Eds?”
“Just leave it off.”
“What are you doing here, thought you weren’t coming over tonight?”
“I know, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have come.” He stood from your bed, but you pulled him back gently.
“You know you’re welcome anytime,” you said softly. You pulled him closer to you, “But I know you, and I know you wouldn’t show up at,” you paused and looked at your clock, “2am, randomly without a reason.”
“I couldn’t stay there,”his voice broke.
“What?” you instantly become concerned.
“Im sorry I didn’t know where else to go. He showed up and Wayne’s at work and I-I couldn’t,” his breathing sped up.
“Hey, hey slow down it’s okay. You’re safe,” you pulled him into your arms. Rubbing his back and playing with his curls the way you know he loved. “It’s okay Sweet boy, I’ve got you.”
Slowly you felt him calm down. “My dad,” he began, you didn’t rush him, “I got back from dropping you home and he was at the entrance of the trailer park.
“Wanted to talk to me. To Wayne. Started yelling, saying we ruined his life, his reputation. I tried to get him to leave but he wouldn’t … a-and then … then he um ..”
“Baby did he hurt you?” you asked carefully, not wanting to overwhelm him. He nodded into your neck, letting out a sob. “I-if he wasn’t being so loud, and the neighbours didn’t come out … I just shut down … just like I used too.”
“It’s okay. You’re okay. You’re safe.”
“One of the guys at the front of the park threatened to call the cops and he bolted.”
“Cause he’s a coward,” you didn’t like bad mouthing people, but Al Munson was the worst.
“Eddie my love, will you let me see your face?” you softly kissed the top of his head and he nodded, sniffling. Pulling back slightly, but not letting go, you turned on your lamp.
Looking at his face, tears came to your own eyes, “Oh my baby, let’s get you cleaned up, yeah?” leading him to your bathroom, you pulled out your first aid kit.
His lip was popped, the side of his face bruised, he had a black eye coming and his eye brow was cut. “Can you sit here for me?” you motioned to the closed toilet. He sat on the lid silently.
Making your way to stand between his legs, “This is gonna sting,” you spoke, antiseptic wipe in hand. He hummed, you tried to be as careful as possible, touching his eyebrow, but he let out a hiss.
“Sorry, oh I’m sorry baby. I know it hurts.”More tears fell but you knew it wasn’t out of pain, well not physically, this was in his heart. “Why does he hate me?” he sobbed, resting his head on your stomach.
“Because he’s an awful person. You are everything he could never be. You are kind and loving and sweet and gentle. He is a mean man, a broken man.”
“H-he said it was my fault mom-“
“Don’t you dare. Don’t you dare listen to him, it was not your fault, it wasn’t anyone’s fault.
“B-but he said-“
“I know, but that is because he is a broken man who never learnt how to deal with his emotions. He didn’t talk about your mom and took out all his feelings on you, but Eds you were a baby.
“You were your moms pride and joy, she would hate the way he’s treated you. You have such a good heart and soul, and you honour your mom everyday by being so strong and kind,
“The way you look after Wayne, the kids, me. She’d be so proud. So please do not listen to a thing that nasty man says.”
He calmed in your hold, still holding you tightly. “I love you, thank you for being here,” he said, pulling away from your tummy, his face now splotchy and swollen with tears.
“I will always be here. I love you so much.” You kissed his lips softly, not wanting to hurt him anymore. “Tell you what, if you’re feeling up to it in the morning, we can go and talk to Hop. Tell him what happened, how does that sound?”
“You’ll stay with me?”
“Always. Now let me finish cleaning you up.”
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
Eddie had changed into a pair of clothes he’d left here, whilst you went to make him some toast and tea. Something your mom did whenever you were upset.
You also decided to call Wayne’s work place. “Hello?” an unfamiliar voice answered, clearly tired. “Hi, um I was wondering if I could talk to Wayne Munson please.”
Soon enough you heard his voice, “Munson,” he said simply. “Hey Wayne it’s me.”
“Oh hello Honey, is everything okay?”
“Not really,” you then explained the events of the night. “Is he okay?”
“He was shaken up. I’ve cleaned him up, we’re going to talk to Hopper in the morning. I just wanted to tell you so you could be careful, keep an eye out for him”.
“Well thank you for letting me know. Just … tell him I love him okay, and thank you for taking care of my boy.”
“I always will Wayne, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
You wandered up to your room, finding Eddie sat on the bed, legs crossed, eyes skimming across your bookshelf, to keep himself distracted.
“Hey,” you said softly, not wanting to make him jump. “Hi,” he smiled weakly. Passing him the plate and the mug you sat next to him, sipping your own drink.
“I spoke to Wayne, just so he can keep an eye out. He wanted me to tell you that he loves you.” Eddie paused mid bite, almost choking.
“Really?”
“His exact words, he loves his boy. I love him too,” you nudged his shoulder.
“I love you.”
The rest of the night was quiet, you and Eddie drank your tea and ate toast. He lay on your chest, listening to your heartbeat, as you played with his curls.
Soon his soft snores were filling the room. He would be okay. He was surrounded by love, maybe not Al. But Al didn’t deserve him.
People like you, Wayne, your friends. Those were the ones he needed. His family, definitely strange and not at all normal, but a family nevertheless.

Tumblr media
He’s been doing this for years. He was just thirteen when he first put on the Robin suit. And it was magical.
Being Robin always made Jason feel like he was magic. He was invincible and strong and worthy and enough and important. He had a purpose. For so much of his life, he was the one taking care of his mom and then she died. She died and it left him cold and alone and on the streets. But Robin brought him importance and safety and warmth. Being Robin meant he lived in a home where he was cared for and never asked to care for them. Not that he ever minded caring for his mom because he never did. But it was nice not having to take care of himself, even if he always did anyway. Being Robin gave him freedom and he got to kick ass. He got to go out there and he got to help Batman bring down some of the worst of the worst. He was enough and important. And worthy. But he wasn’t invincible. Because the Joker killed him.
He died and that was that. Robin wasn’t magic or invincible. Robin was just some kid in a mask and cape. But, then a betrayal to death and fate happened and Jason’s alive again. He came back and became Red Hood because the Joker was alive and well, Bruce had a new Robin, and the world left Jason behind.
He came back and it’s as if he wasn’t even wanted. He became Red Hood for people like him. The ones left behind. The ones Bruce won’t help in the way he should. Jason became Red Hood, knowing this life only leads to pain and death, to do what Bruce is too cowardly to do. He became Red Hood to be the voice for all the victims like him. That could have been saved if the hard choices were just made but weren’t. He is their voice and their protector. So, he’s been doing this for years. And the missions that go south, still never get any easier.
There’s a loud thud coming from your window, snapping you from your shallow sleep on the couch. You sit up quickly, your head slightly spinning with the sudden movement and you look over to your window, seeing the reflective red helmet shining back at you in the low light of the city and your apartment.
Jason takes the helmet, a mild quiver to his fingertips. “Sorry.” Jason mutters. “Did I wake you?”
You shake your head, moving to your knees so you can get a better look at him. “No, I was just lying down.” You lie, knowing he hates waking you up and you hadn’t been asleep more than twenty minutes anyway.
“That’s good.” Jason clears his throat but he hasn’t made any attempt to get up off the floor or make direct eye contact with you.
It’s all feeling heavy. His head, his eyes, his limps. Everything around him feels like it’s starting to close in. The adrenaline is crashing and everything feels like it’s about to suck the last breath from his lungs. It all hurts and aches and he usually handles it well, the injuries just come with the territory. He’s used to the pain but then nights like tonight happen and everything hurts. Every passed injury is echoing in pain, coming back for vengeance. The autopsy scars burn even though they shouldn’t, his face feels numb even though those injuries have been long healed from the pit. Every haunted injury comes back with a shattering echo.
“Jay?” You ask softly, trying to get him to look at you.
Usually, when Jason comes back from patrol, he's injured in some capacity. But, most of the time, he has this grin anyway that could light up Gotham's darkest alleyways. It's always a little cheeky and always a little arrogant. And charming. Because he went out and he did something good, for people who can't help themselves. His eyes are usually bright, blue and bold with enough energy to power your apartment. Those are the times he usually comes to you but then sometimes, like tonight, it's like every ghost comes back and takes over. The light is gone from his eyes and it's as if he's physically incapable of managing even a fake reassuring smile. It's these nights that are always the most worrisome because you know Jason has a habit of beating himself up relentlessly when something bad happens.
For a second, he’s not sure why he showed up here. You always clean him up and stitch him up. You’ve been doing it since he was Robin. A routine because you always understood when he needed to talk or sit in silence. But tonight, he’s not even feeling like he’s worthy of the kindness that radiates from your unbroken bones. He doesn’t think he deserves the help you always offer and the understanding because he failed tonight. And it was his fault. It was so bad that his jaw clenches as his heart starts to thunder.
"Are you okay?" You keep your voice soft, just above a whisper as if speaking too loudly will shatter him entirely.
His breath hitches in his throat with the question. He nearly shatters into a billion pieces right into your carpet. Jason Todd, on a good day, is rarely ever really okay but tonight it’s so much worse. He’s trapped in a harsh reality of what he does every night and he’s trapped in his own head, haunted by every passed mistake he’s ever made. Is he doing the right thing? Is this the only way? Is Bruce right? Maybe he is fucked up and maybe he never should have been brought back. Maybe those people would be alive right now if it weren’t for him.
Jason swallows his own heartbeat, a task that feels more like swallowing river rocks. "Yeah, I'm fine." His words are short and brittle while a redness starts to wash over his eyes.
You nod slowly before you get up from your spot on the couch. Jason watches you carefully and he knows you’re about to offer him the care he swears up and down he does not deserve. You crouch in front of him, resting your hands on his knees. Jason nearly pulls away but he knows it would hurt you if he did and he doesn’t want to cause anyone else any more pain. Not tonight.
“You don’t look fine.” You say softly as you tilt your head to the right. “Are you hurt anywhere?”
“Uh, yeah.” Jason nods as his mouth runs dry. “A few places.”
“Okay so I’ll get the kit and you can move the couch.”
“You don’t have to fucking help, alright? I don’t know why I came here.” Jason huffs but it's weak and ragged, forced as if speaking is too much of a task.
“You always come to me for help, Jay.” Your voice is kind and gentle as your thumbs lightly run over his knees.
“I know but I’ve already stained your carpet and couch. It’s late and you have work. I’ll just go home. It’s fine.” Jason shakes his head, his eyes plastered where your hands meet his knees.
“I don’t mind.” You shrug as if it’s the easiest thing in the world. “Taking care of you, I mean. It doesn’t bother me.” You offer him a soft smile once he glances up to you. “And Alfred told me how to get the stains out so…you really wanna use that as an excuse or you gonna let him help you?”
Jason lets out a sigh. “I don’t know.” There's a quiver in his voice.
You tap his head lightly with your finger, Jason's eyes finally locking on yours. "What's going on up there?"
You were on the streets together before he got lucky, well, depending how you want to look at it. You've known him for years and Jason has always been the one who wants better for people, Robin and Red Hood just gave him the opportunity to actually help those people. But, with that, he's also been the person who doesn't really know his worth or believes he's enough. A lot of things have happened, a lot of people have come and gone to nail those thoughts into the deepest parts of his mind. Those are always the thoughts that tend to be the ones that stick, even if they aren't true and you know they aren't.
You know Jason has a heart of gold and always has, always will. He thinks dying charged a part of that because sometimes, it feels like he should still be dead. So, he beats his heart out of his chest until he shatters into pieces, the shards always ricocheting back at him. He breaks his own heart because he thinks he deserves it, scattering the pieces in hopes the pain will always be true to what he deserves. But, you come around and pick up the pieces anyway because you always knew he was enough and worthy and important. You always knew that Jason would do what was best, for him and for other people who needed help.
"I got a damn cipher wrong and I was too late." Jason's voice finally cracks, his words harsh and aimed at himself.
His eyes always turn to almost a navy blue whenever he starts crying. It doesn't happen often, at least not around you, but you notice it. It's as if the emotional turmoil takes over every part of him stripping him of the liviness he usually has and that includes the brightness of his eyes. And it breaks your heart every time.
Jason has always had a thing about not being enough. He wasn't enough for either of his parents to stop using or enough for his dad to stick around, get a legal job. He wasn't enough for Bruce. A lot of people have tried over the years for him and tried with good intentions to just genuinely help because he deserved to be happy and healthy and safe but for some reason, it was never enough. Something else would happen and it'd mess it all up and the only one who ever got hurt in the mess was Jason. He's mentioned, a handful of times, maybe it was just him. Destined to like this forever. But you never saw it that way.
"I'm sorry, Jay." You brush the white streak of hair out of his eyes. "Do you wanna talk about it?" You ask, your brows pulled together.
You never saw him as not enough or damaged. He's an asshole, sure, but he's also kind and forgiving. He just wants to help people. Even when you were kids, questioning where your next meal was coming from, he'd try to help other kids if he could. It's what he did. It's what he does. You found out he was Robin and all you could do was laugh because the whole vigilante thing really fit him. Maybe not the way Bruce wanted things done, but helping people who the GCPD can't or won't help. But, even beyond being a vigilante, he's your favorite person. And you wouldn't trade him for the entire world. You desperately wish he could see himself through your eyes. Maybe it would help on nights like tonight.
"No." Jason scoffs, shaking his head. "No, I don't wanna talk or think about it anymore."
"Okay." You shrug casually, knowing he'll talk in bits and pieces later. "So, why don't we get you cleaned up and stitched up then we lay down. We can watch something or I can read to you until you fall asleep. Your choice." You offer him a gentle and kind smile.
"I don't wanna keep you up later. You'll be late for work again." Jason huffs, guilty pulling at the pit of his stomach.
You shrug, giving him a cheeky grin. "Eh, yeah, I can take some PTO." Your face suddenly lights up. "What if I take PTO and we go to Petsmart tomorrow, pick up some food and we go see the kittens at the shelter? If we bring in food, we can hang out with them for a little while."
The excitement in your voice gets Jason to crack a small and fragile smile. You know how much he likes cats. It's a silly offer, maybe, but it is nice and Jason will never understand why you try to hard to make him feel better, even when he thinks he doesn't deserve it. But, he does know, he is thankful for you anyway,
"That's how you wanna spend your precious time off?" Jason's voice is rough this time but it doesn't crack.
"With you and like twenty kittens? Yes." You nod quickly. "And I think you need it, anyway." Your smile falls into something comforting and honest. It feels like home. "Hanging out with animals is good for your mental health."
"Really?" Jason raises a brow at you.
"Oh, are you gonna tell me you're not beating yourself up and thinking you're the worst? You're not. I think you're the best but I know you well enough to know you don't think so when something happens." You suck in a breath, your hands sliding over his knees a few times. "So, we go hang out with some kittens and you'll feel a little better to tell me what happened and then I'll tell you that you still did your best."
"How do you even know that?" Jason scoffs, dodging your eyes again as the guilt starts pulling on his vocal cords.
"Because you always try your best." You answer simply. "It's not always easy, Jay and it's not always gonna work out. But, you always try and that's enough." You place your hand on his cheek, getting him to look at you. "So, what'd ya say?" The corner of your mouth perks up into a gentle and hopeful smile.
The last thing he wants to do is disappoint you, let someone else down. But, he also knows, deep down, that you do it because you care and you really believe everything you tell him. All you want to do is be there for him and maybe it does take some of the weight off of his shoulders. When he's carrying the world, you stand under it with him. And when he's taking a hammer to his own heart, you yank the hammer away and swap it out with glue, helping him put it back together. And on nights like tonight, he's not sure where he'd up if it weren't for you.
Jason nods softly, taking your hand in his. "Yeah, alright, thanks." Jason leans closer, resting his forehead against yours.
"Of course, Jay." You press a quick kiss to his nose. "Now, come on, lemme help you." You get to your feet and offer your hands to help Jason up.
He shakes his head, his chest still feeling heavy but knowing you'll always be here makes things easier. So, he sticks out of his own hands and encompasses yours in his before he stands up.

I haven’t seen anyone do anything like this but what about a dad Joe blurb but they have teenagers?
Rough Night|| Joe Burrow x reader
Tumblr media
•pairing: Joe Burrow x reader
•summary: Joe is in charge of being home with your four teenage children while you’re out with friends…
•warnings: some fluff, teenagers, angsty teenagers lol, mentions of periods, and dad joe which isn’t a warning bc we ❤️ dad joe
“DAD!” Hazel bellowed from the top of the stairs. Joe sighed and put his protein shake down on the counter. “Yeah?!” He shouted back.
The seventeen year old huffed out a sigh before her heavy footsteps were heard running down the stairs. His daughter walked into the kitchen wearing an annoyed expression as she crossed her arms over her chest.
“Mom said I could go out with Charlie tonight.”
Joe’s eyes widened as he laughed in disbelief, “Absolutely not.” Hazel rolled her eyes and plopped down on a barstool. She was not happy with her dads answer.
“Why not?” she pouted, “Mom said it was fine.” Joe shook his head at his daughters words. “Well your mom isn’t here right now, which means that I’m in charge. No boys.”
“Ugh,” she scoffed, “this is so unfair. Josie is out with her boyfriend.”
“Josie is also nineteen and doesn’t technically live at home anymore. You do, young lady.”
Hazel crossed her arms over her chest and huffed out another sigh. She loved her dad, but she didn’t love his rules when it was just him at home with her and her siblings. They could have friends over, but no boyfriends. And they absolutely could not leave the house—unless it was planned in advance. You didn’t necessarily have these same rules as Joe did with your kids, but you knew he was doing it to be a protective father. Joe values his privacy, especially when it comes to his family. He only has these rules in place because he wants to protect his kids.
“Dad,” Hazel gave Joe a pleading look, “can I have Charlie over here?” Joe shook his head as he opened the fridge to get a bottle of water. “No.”
“Fine.” Hazel sighed in defeat. As Hazel slouched down in the barstool, a loud screech came from upstairs. Joe slammed the fridge shut and looked at Hazel with furrowed brows. Hazel just shrugged and turned her attention back to her phone. Joe rolled his eyes and grumbled under his breath as he left the kitchen and jogged up the stairs. He heard an annoyed groan come from his fourteen year old daughter Ivy’s room. Her door was cracked open, and she had her hand on the top of her dark blonde wavy hair as she paced around her room.
“Shit. This is the worst day of my life.” Ivy groaned out. Joe frowned slightly, wondering what possibly could have happened to his daughter to make her this worked up over the day. Joe brought his fist up to the door, knocking softly.
“Hey sweetie, you OK in there? I heard you scream.” Joe said softly, his voice laced with concern. He heard Ivy sigh from the other side of the door before she replied.
“It’s nothing, just,” she opened the door, making eye contact with Joe, “just go away dad.” Joe frowned as he looked at his daughter. Ivy stayed silent as she huffed out a sigh. Her chin suddenly started to quiver as she made eye contact with her dad.
“What’s wrong, Ivy?”
The teens chin wobbled even more before she dried her eyes and groan in frustration, letting everything out to her dad.
“I got my period today, and I bled through so now my favorite pair of jeans is ruined. I had to throw them away, and on top of that, my physics grade just went down to a D today.”
“Oh.” Joe’s face dropped as he gulped. Even if he wasn’t freaked out by it, you were always the one that helped the girls in this department.
“Well,” he cleared his throat. Joe knew he had to be supportive for his daughter. He has three daughters and a wife, so he’s a pro when it comes to periods. “I can help you with physics sweetie, don’t sweat it.”
Ivy nodded, sniffling softly, “Thanks dad.” Joe smiled softly, “Of course. Can I get you anything? Heating pad, ice cream, anything?”
Ivy shook her head, she was thankful for her dads offer, but she declined. “No, I just want to be alone right now. But thanks dad, I appreciate it.”
Joe nodded, walking forward to engulf his daughter in a hug. Ivy instantly wrapped her arms around her dad, squeezing him gently. A hug from him always made things better. She thanked him again and Joe left the room, the letting his youngest daughter be by herself for the time being. He let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding as he went back downstairs. Upon entering the kitchen, he saw his son Jace sitting at the counter and chowing down on leftover pizza. Joe smiled as he saw his son. He walked up behind Jace and ruffled his blonde hair.
All of the girls resembled you the most, with Hazel being your “twin”. But Jace, Jace was a carbon copy of Joe. Jace was your “oops” baby. Your “oops” baby that looked exactly like Joe. He always has, even when he was just two days old. Now, at almost thirteen, Jace still looked just like his father.
“Hey J.” Joe greeted his son. Jace smiled up at his dad, swallowing his mouthful of food. “Hey dad.” He responded, “want a piece?” Joe shook his head and sat down next to his youngest. “You enjoy.” Joe looked around the kitchen, noticing that Hazel was no longer sitting at the barstool she was at earlier. He pointed toward the empty seat. “Where’s your sister?”
“Up in her room calling Charlie and sulking about not being able to go out with him.”
Joe just chuckled in amusement. Of course she was sulking about not getting to see her boyfriend for the fifth day in a row. Joe looked over at his son, reaching out to pat his sons shoulder as he said, “Enjoy your pizza. I’m going to go watch some film, you can join me if you want.”
The boy nodded eagerly, wiping the crumbs from his hands as he stood up from the barstool and followed his dad into his film room. Jace was always up for watching film with his dad, especially since he was quarterback just like Joe. The two sat down on the couch and got comfortable as Joe set up his most recent watch. Joe and Jace were watching film for about a half hour before you got home from your friends birthday party. You walked into the house, greeted by a messy house, but a peaceful silence. You smiled to yourself as you heard Joe’s voice coming from his film room. He was explaining the play in great detail to your son Jace.
You walked into the room, greeting your husband and son with a soft hello. Joe glanced up at you, a wide grin on his face as he greeted you. He moved over so there was room for you on the couch too. You sat down between him and Jace, resting your hand on Joe’s thigh as Jace wrapped an arm around your torso to give you a brief hug.
You chuckled as you noticed how Jace’s blue eyes never once left the screen. You gently squeezed Joe’s thigh and looked up at him. He seemed a little tense, you could tell he must’ve had a rough night with your teenagers. Joe looked down at you, immediately softening under your gaze.
“Rough night?” you asked, voice soft. Joe chuckled, reaching out to squeeze your thigh, “You have no idea.”
You smiled in amusement. As much as you love your teenage girls, they can be quite the handful sometimes.
“I’m just glad you’re home.” Joe said with a smile. You returned the smile and leaned your head on Joe’s shoulder as you watched film with your boys.
You couldn’t wait to hear about how the night went from your girls in the morning.
hey loves!!
dad joe blurb to start the night! i thought this was a great request anon. i usually write dad joe with infants or young children, so writing dad joe with teenagers was definitely different for me!

Wanda hums a Sokovian lullaby with a smile on her face, as she braids five-year-old Y/N’s hair into a french braid. Y/N is swinging her legs, as her short feet can’t reach the floor yet, while she’s watching Bluey. Sometimes she giggles at the characters ok the television, and sings the opening song with them, clapping when the episode starts.
Every once in a while, Wanda has to set Y/N’s head back into a good position, so she can actually braid her hair, buy she doesn’t mind. This is her favorite time.
It’s early morning, the sun has just risen. There’s porridge in the pot, ready for them to eat once the braids are done. Birds are chirping outside and Wanda is spending time with her little girl. And she loves that little girl with her full heart. Her eyes are so innocent and big, they shine every time she learns something new. Her hair and skin is so soft, Wanda loves to hold her close as much as possible. Her tiny nose and chubby cheeks are perfect for playful pinching. She’s perfect. She couldn’t have asked for a better babygirl.
“All done, Y/N!” Wanda crouches in front of her, looking at her handiwork. “You look so cute, baby.” She smiles with her teeth and Y/N giggles. “Are you ready for breakfast?”
“Uhuh!” She raises her arms high in the air.
Wanda grins and lifts her up to the side of her hip. “Oh my goodness, how did my little girl get so tall all of a sudden?” She gasps, twirling them around.
Y/N giggles, “you’re holding me, mommy!”
“What are you talking about?” She gasps even deeper this time, lifting one of her arms up. “I’m not holding anything in this hand.”
“No!” Her laugh is like music for Wanda’s ears. “Other hand, silly mommy.”
“Is mommy being silly again?”
“Yes.”
Smiling, Wanda rubs her nose against Y/N’s. “Yes, she is, silly mommy. But guess what?” She grins, rubbing her cheek. “You’re my daughter, so you’re just as silly!”
Y/N starts laughing with her full body. The sound echoes through the house, making Wanda’s heart ache with joy. Her eyes tingle as she stares at her daughter.
Her daughter.
She’ll never get tired of saying that.
The pots and pans clang loudly as Wanda washes them. She’s using a lot more force than necessary for washing dishes. Y/N is sitting at the kitchen table, a math book in front of her and a pen in her hand. She’s trying to math work for school, but instead she’s crying.
“I’m sorry, mommy.” She cries out, too scared to look at her mother. “I’m really sorry, mommy.”
Wanda doesn’t answer. She slams a plate to the drying rack. Y/N is scared a dish will break.
“I didn’t mean to do so badly, I just didn’t get it.”
The tap gets turned off with force. “Do you understand how badly you embarrassed me?” Her voice is loud. She walks over and stops right next to Y/N, who is still too scared to look at her in the eyes. “Your grades have been so bad, the principal asked me if there are troubles at home. Do you at least get what that means, huh? It means your teachers think I’m a shit mother!”
“I’m sorry!” The tears are coming out faster.
“And then you start crying in front of the principal? You don’t do things like that!”
“You were yelling and I-“
“Oh, it’s all my fault again. I guess I’m the fucking worst mom then!” Wanda throws her hands in the air, walking to the living room and sitting on the couch. She turns the television on.
Y/N gets out of her seat, “you aren’t the worst mom,” she walks a few steps closer, trying to talk over the loud sound of the television, “you are a good mom, please. No one think you’re the worst.”
When Wanda doesn’t answer, Y/N drops down to her knees and start sobbing loudly. Wanda doesn’t stand up and come to comfort her, she doesn’t say anything, she doesn’t even look at her. All she does, is watch the show, and let Y/N cry, until the tears stop and she goes back to doing her math work.
“I think there’s something wrong with me.” Is the first thing coming out of Y/N’s mouth since they got into the car.
They’ve been driving for twenty minutes towards the campsite where Y/N will be sending a week with her friends. There’s still and hour and a half left to drive.
“No honey there’s nothing wrong with you, you’re perfect.” Wanda assures, fiddling with the control of the radio. She’s trying to find a good channel. “You’re just thirteen and a teenager. It’s all normal.”
“No, mom,” she lets out a heavy sigh, “I think there’s really something wrong with me. Something doesn’t feel right in my head.”
“You’re just tired.”
“But the tiredness is never ending!” She turns her head to look at Wanda. “Look at me, please, mom. I need you to see me. There’s something wrong with me and I need you to see it too.”
Wanda’s eyes stay on the road. “Stop saying that, there’s nothing wrong with you.” Her lips are in a thin line, and her brows are scrunched. She’s starting to get annoyed.
“There has to be something wrong with me! This can’t be who I am. Please, mommy!”
With sharp moves, Wanda drives the car to the side of the road and stops it. “Shut up, right now! You’re being so grateful right now. You had a good childhood, you got food and water whenever you wanted, you had a roof over your head and all the toys you wanted to play with. There are people with worse lives, who have actual problems. So either keep your goddamn mouth shut, or walk the rest of the way, do you hear me?” She doesn’t start driving against until Y/N nods.
The rest of the car drive goes in silence. Y/N looks out the window all the way to the campsite, fighting her tears while Wanda hums along the song on the radio.
Opening the door as quietly as she can, Y/N steps inside the house, slowly putting her shoes to the mat. She closes the door and starts sneaking towards the living room. She stops on her tracks when she notices the television is on. “Well, are you going to come in or not?” Wanda’s heavy voice comes from the living room. Not bothering to be quiet anymore, Y/N walks to the living room, where Wanda is sitting on the couch, watching the mute television. “Where the hell have you been?” She turns to look at her daughter, but all Y/N does is shrug. “Do you know what the time is?”
She glances at the clock, “three.”
“Three in the night.” She’s staring Y/N right into her eyes, and Y/N stares back. Her eyes are red, but it’s not from crying. She hasn’t cried in a long time.
“Fun.”
Wanda stands up, coming right in front of Y/N, so she has to look up at her. “What the hell is wrong with you? This isn’t the girl I know.”
“I’m not five anymore.”
“For fucks sake, Y/N, I know that, but you sure aren’t acting like a fifteen-year-old.” Y/N rolls her eyes and goes to walk away, but Wanda grabs her arm. “Don’t you roll your eyes at me. I am your mother and you’re supposed to respect me!”
“You don’t deserve my respect. You’re not a good person.” Her teeth are bared like an angry dog’s.
“And you think you are?” Wanda scoffs. “You’re my blood, so you’re just as bad. You’re horrible.”
Y/N is packing her things to two different boxes. One says to donation and the other to dorm. She’s nineteen years old and ready for college, ready to move away from her mother’s house. Most of the things in her room are already back, though she has to wait until tomorrow to actually leave. She’s taking the train to her university, not wanting to be in the same car with Wanda for six hours.
“Is packing coming along nicely?” Wanda appears to the doorway, leaning her shoulder against the doorframe. “I could help you out if you need me?”
“Uhh, I think I’ve got it.” She rubs the back of her neck, looking around her room. “There’s not much left.”
“Okay.”
They stand there in silence. Neither of them know how to talk to the other. Wanda never bothered to learn and Y/N gave up on trying. Besides, she couldn’t talk about the things she wanted to without crying, and she really doesn’t want to cry in front of her mom.
“Did you find any things to donate?”
“Some.”
Silence again. It’s making Y/N shake from the need to lay it all out for her. She wants to scream and throw things, but she just bites her lip. There’s no use. No matter what she says, her mother won’t lis-
“What do I have to do?” Y/N suddenly breaks the silence.
“Hm?” Wanda looks at her with a confused expression.
“What do I need to do to make you love me.” The silence is deafening. They’re staring at each other, but Wanda isn’t saying anything. She never does. “Tell me what to do!” Her voice gets louder, but Wanda doesn’t react. It makes Y/N angrier. All the times she was sobbing while her mother punished her with silent treatment coming to her mind. She hates silence. She can’t sleep in a quiet room anymore. “Tell me how to change myself to make you love me!” The tears start falling, and all Wanda does is stare. “Because it hurts, mom, it hurts so bad.” She’s getting desperate. She wants to hurt her, not physically, but the way she has hurt her. All she wants is for Wanda to feel the way she has always felt growing up. But instead of saying something hurtful, all she says is, “I’m sorry for being a bad daughter.”
Wanda walks out of the room, and Y/N wipes away her tears before continuing her packing.
After a few hours, Y/N is sitting on her bed, reading a book. A smell is coming from the kitchen, which tells her dinner is almost ready. She doesn’t want to go downstairs, at least not until Wanda somehow expresses she isn’t angry anymore.
Her whole body tenses when she hears steps coming upstairs. She’s holding her breath when Wanda walks into the room and sits behind her on the bed.
Y/N puts her book down, but doesn’t say anything. All Wanda does is set her head to a correct position and start making a french braid. There’s a piece stuck in Y/N’s throat as she sits there, it makes her whole body hurt, but she fights back the second set of tears threatening to fall.
Wanda’s fingers work in a fast and skillful pace, having done this multiple times. Y/N’s hair is longer now, and there’s a lot more of it, but still it gets done quickly. She puts the ponytail in place, kisses Y/N’s cheek and walks right out of the room.
Y/N takes the braid to her hand and holds it against her cheek. She starts crying silently. It doesn’t feel the same as it did when she was five years old.
Breathing in through her nose and out through her mouth, Y/N holds her phone in hand. There’s a small cupcake in front of her with candles that say 22 on them. She hasn’t eaten it yet.
Her hands are shaking and black spots are starting to appear in her vision. Whatever is wrong with her, is starting to get worse again. She thought she had gotten better after moving on her own, but it all came rushing back after the initial relief. It was manageable for a long time, but these past few months, she has started to feel like she’s drowning.
She’s afraid she’ll do something bad if she doesn’t get help.
Which is why she has been gathering courage to call her mom and tell her she want to come back home, that she needs to come back home. How she feels like she won’t survive if she’s all alone. She needs her mom.
“I need help, I want to come home.” She mumbles quietly to herself as practice before pressing the contact on her phone and bringing it to her ear. She waits for three rings before Wanda answers. “Hi, mom.” Her voice is quieter than usual.
“Hi, honey. Happy birthday!”
She’s tired.
“Thanks, mom.” She huffs out a laugh.
She’s just tired.
“How’s it going over there?”
“Hm, it-“
“Oh, you can’t believe what the weather has been like over here.”
Y/N freezes. She grips the phone tighter. “What has it been like?”
“Crazy. It was raining so much yesterday, and today there’s some kind of wind monster outside.” Her mother laughs. “What’s the weather been like over there?”
“Sunny.”
“Oh, isn’t that great! I wish we’d get sun more over here, I’m getting fired of…”
And Wanda continues talking. And Y/N continues listening. The phone call lasted for thirty minutes. All they talked about was the weather.

You watch through the window, frosted at the corners like a Hallmark Christmas card. You can’t deny that the snow is beautiful as it gleams beneath the streetlights but can it slow down? You feel yourself buried deeper with each spiraling flake.
It’s almost eight and there’s no sign of a stop coming. The plows passed an hour ago but barely made a dent in the thick blankets. You check your app, the buses are all delayed, some routes are even out of service.
“I got snow tires but not sure they can handle this,” Bucky comes up beside you, “car’s not heavy enough. Best case scenario, we get stuck not far from here. Worst…”
“I’m s-sorry.”
“Sorry? I didn’t know you controlled the weather,” he scoffs.
“N-no, but I-I’m stuck here,” you blow out a long breath, “sorry to s-spoil your night.”
“Stuck?” He clucks, “never said that. It’s fine. Shit happens. You get to my age and it hardly even bothers you.”
“I guess,” you shrug.
“You calmed down,” he puts his hand on the window frame as he glances over at you.
You push your shoulders even higher. He’s not wrong. Your adrenaline fizzled out and now you’re just exhausted. Still, you can’t say you’re okay. Every shadow startles you as Mr. Rogers’ voice tickles the back of your mind. You’re back to watching over your shoulder.
“You’re not stuttering as bad,” he sniffs, “that’s all…”
“Sometimes it’s n-not as bad,” you agree, “s-still there though.”
“Getting cold in here,” he pulls his grip from the window frame and hugs himself, “how’re you doing? I got some extra slippers. A sweater?”
“Good,” you wave him off, “n-not that bad.”
He doesn’t say anything. You feel him watching you. He exhales through his nostrils and steps back on his heel.
“You’re damn stubborn,” he mutters.
“I–” you stop yourself. Arguing would just prove his point. And you are stubborn.
If only he knew how long you’ve stayed in a bad situation, thinking you could outpace it, that you could overcome it. Again and again. You’re too damn stubborn for your own good.
“So are y-you,” you say.
His response is unexpected. He laughs. He backs up, leaving you to watch the incessant snowfall.
“Yeah, I am,” he confesses.
You don’t answer. No comment is better than any that pops into your head. You continue to stare out hopelessly.
“You should let your parents know you won’t be home,” he suggests as pages flutter.
“I’m an a-adult,” you spin and lean on the window ledge, “they…”
…won’t care. You don’t say that out loud either.
“Never said you weren’t. Only figured,” he clicks on the tiny book light again.
“Uh, th-thanks,” you shuffle to the couch, well away from him and sit. You pull your phone, ignoring how the temperature nips at your fingers. You texted your mom an hour ago. She left you on read. Not even a thumbs up. “This should c-clear up s-soon.”
He snorts and looks over his book, “you really believe that?”
You meet his gaze and shake your head. He smirks and closes his book. He puts it on the armrest and stands.
“Come on, let me get you settled in,” he turns his palms out.
“Wh-what?”
“Sure, got a guest room upstairs. No point in you taking the couch. It’s stiff,” he explains, “I should have enough wood in the garage to get the fireplace going. Never really bother with it, too much work.”
“Uh, oh, o-okay,” you stand, “th-thanks.”
“You know, I am a nice guy. Or can be,” he leads you through the doorway. “If you’d just moved over a tiny bit–”
“W-what? I… the b-bookstore? You c-could’ve asked. You d-didn’t say e-excuse me,” you counter.
He grips the railing as he starts up the staircase ahead of you. “Oh, I’m sorry, you’re right. I forgot my manners. Thank you, Miss Etiquette.”
“N-no, th-thank you,” you return tritely, “finally, y-you apologised.”
“Me?” He exclaims as he climbs, peeking over his shoulder, “you called me an old man.”
“I d-did.”
He’s quiet as he continues to the top. He stops on the landing and turns back to you. You step up level to him, well, not quite.
“Hm,” his lips thin, “I guess you weren’t wrong.”
“I w-wasn’t,” you proclaim proudly.
“Watch yourself,” he warns with a wag of his finger.
“S-sorry, I wouldn’t w-want to raise y-your b-blood pressure,” you tease.
He hesitates, almost flinching.
“Are you calling me old again?” He tilts his head.
You smile and shrug. His eyes narrow and his brow drops. He waves you off and turns on his heel.
“Right, your room is this way.” He directs you down the short hallway and taps a closed door, “I’ll grab you an extra blanket and something to sleep in.”
“You g-go to bed th-this early?”
He glowers as he faces you again, “no.”
“S-sorry, I-I’ll stop,” you put your hands up, “I ap-ap-appreciate it.”
“So,” he turns the knob without look and nudges the door open, “I’ll just go get that fire goaded and then we can figure out dinner. You hungry? I’m starving.”
“Er, yeah,” you say sheepishly, “but I… you d-don't need t-to.”
“Come on, don't,” he dismisses your protest, “you can pay me back.”
“Ah, I g-guess.”
“Stay for the recording,” he insists, “please. Let's get through episode one before you tuck tail.”
“T-tuck tail?” You blink.
“Not to say… I only,” he stops himself, “I'm asking nicely. I'm not used to begging, you know?”
You press your lips tight and look away, “I'll th-think about it.”
“Right, well you got a whole night to think,” he says, “so, uh, yeah, the fire.”
He spins and before you can react, he's halfway to the stairs. You watch him go as you blindly reach for the door, letting your hand rest on the wood lightly as he disappears below.
Mercurial, that's the word for it. You always wanted to fit that in somewhere. It's almost poetic but in the flesh, it's entirely confounding.

Don’t Leave Me.

Tumblr media
Your parents didn't love each other. Everyone believed they did, it was all a facade it seems you were the only one to notice. You noticed first when you were seven it was after you saw your friend's parents kiss. “Why don’t you kiss mama?” you asked your father as he got you ready for bed.
“Your mother is not faithful honey,” he smiled as he pets your head, “she brings special friends here who daddy don't like,” you frowned, “but it’s okay because daddy has friends as well,” you titled your head, “why?”
“That doesn't concern you, now you can't tell anyone about her friends,” you nodded, “good because if you did me and mama could get into a lot of trouble and they’d take you away,” you shook your head as you hugged, ‘i don't wanna live!”
“You won’t pretty baby, just make sure not to say anything,” you nodded as he laid you down to sleep. At the time, you didn't understand what he meant by special friends but as you become older you caught on.
“Honey come to meet my friend!” your mother dragged you to meet an older man. He smiled at you which made you uncomfortable, “don't be rude say hi,” your mother faked a laugh, “hi,” you gave a small wave.
The man just laughed before pulling your mom away, your father barely touched your mother the way this man did, “honey you can't tell daddy my friend came over,” your mother stumbled to where you sat, “why?”
She laughed before rolling, “because he’d get so mad and you don't want to see us fight?” you just looked at your feet, “your father has so many standards you know,” she made you look at her, “right before we had you we were so in love, he loved me,” she stood up walking a little way in front of you.
“But after you, he became distant he barely even held you so I confronted him,” her voice broke as she spoke, “he told me he could barely stare at me because I was ugly and that having you was a mistake,” tears swelled in your eyes, “if you ever wonder why we don't love each other it's because of you, [Y/n].”
You shook your head, “daddy loves me,” you sobbed as your mother grabbed your chin, “and he loved me too, till you came now he can't even look at me,” she threw you on the floor. “You were the worst thing to happen to me.” with that she left you crying on the floor.
She’d say cruel things like that to you all the time, she’d always make remarks about your body, or how you should act if you expect to find a mate, and the older you became the harsher her words.
But outside, it was a different story. Your parents hugged, and they laughed together it was almost like they were two different people, “smile,” your mother whispered in your ears while pinching you. You smiled, you had no other choice your father may have looked happy to everyone else but you could tell he wanted to leave.
He wasn't a party person that was your mother, your father enjoyed spending time with small groups of people. You took after him in this aspect.
At these parties, you never knew where he’d go. He would be there in the beginning and then disappear till it was time to go. One time you wandered away from the party, it was boring and the Sully kids weren't there.
You kept walking till you heard laughter, you followed it then you saw it. A woman sat on your father's lap, she kissed him to which he gladly accepted. You stepped back which made a loud sound causing everyone's heads to turn. You sprinted back not caring to look back to see if your father would try to explain himself.
“I’m not feeling well,” you tapped your mother's shoulder as she spoke with her friends, “you can head back it's okay,” you walked home and cried yourself to sleep. That day you learned what a special friend really was.
If there were to be a ranking system, your family would fall closely under the Sullys.
You played with the Sully kids here and there, but they were far too busy as you all grew up to play with anyone as they were stuck with chores or “duties.” But that didn't stop the attraction you felt for Neteyam. You were scared to get into a relationship with him.
What if he fell out of love with you? What if he decided one day he wanted a special friend? All these thoughts clogged your head so you never did much about your crush.
The fear of ending up as your parents haunted you, unhappy and forced to live with someone who hates your guts.
“Hey [Y/n]!” you smiled and waved, “Hello Neteyam!” he was so nice. He always made time out of his day to talk with you. If you were ever in a group setting, he took extra steps to make you were heard and alright. Your heart couldn't help but beat faster because of him.
You wanted to be with him, but how would you know if he was faithful to you? What ifs flagged your mind it became to the point you couldn't do your chores. “She’s so lazy it's actually shocking she’s even mine,” your mother snickers with her friends.
You just ignored her, there was no point in speaking up she’d just attack you more. You prayed to Ewya that one day you’d be taken away from this place you called home, you prayed and you prayed. But it felt like you weren't being answered.
Tumblr media
“Just make a move on her already,” Lo’ak groaned as Neteyam stared at you. “She’s always in her own world I don't even think she’ll say yes.” Neteyam has loved you since forever and it felt like you barely even looked his way. “You won't know till you try.”
His brother was right, but he didn't know how to approach you. You always had something to do, and he didn't want to just pop the question. You’d obviously say no, and he didn't want to scare you off.
He has never felt like this for someone before. The feeling that you want to spend every waking moment with them, that you want to see them with your children happy and playing together all these feelings were new to him.
So, he decided to take it slow. He slowly started inserting himself into your schedule, you had to help carry boxes? Don't worry Neteyam does too! This way he is able to get close to you but also not make it seem weird or awkward.
His plan worked the two of you became close, constantly having inside jokes, always around each other it was all working out perfect for him.
If you were scared before you were now petrified. The more time you spent with Neteyam the more you felt yourself falling in love with him. It was upsetting because you believed you had the same fate as your mother.
“We all end up like our parents,” it was a phrase thrown around so easily and for some, it might've been a blessing but for you it sounded like a curse.
To end up as that woman sounded like hell, so if you had to die alone to avoid that outcome, you would.
It was a hard pill to chew, give up happiness but you didn't know what else to do, “you know I pity your mate,” your mother laughed as she ate, “he must be drunk the day you two get together.”
You had enough of her bullying, her degrading words, she was your mother she was supposed to uplift you and make you feel safe and wanted and she has done the opposite.
You looked at her teary-eyed, “why do you hate me so much,” it was becoming too much, her words, her everything you could only take so much. “Oh, you always rub it in my face how i’m going to die alone or how I look, if it isn't one thing it's another why?” she only looked at you.
She walked over to you before smacking you across the face, “I don't know who you think you're raising your voice at because it's not me.” you held your cheek before running out.
You were fed up if that was even the right term to express your anger. You stomped across the forest before you stumbled upon the person you wanted to avoid, Neteyam.
“[Y/n]! I haven't seen you in forever!” he smiled as he ushered you closer, “we saw each other this morning,” you faked a smile, “which was ages ago!”
You laughed, it was genuine though he had this thing where he could light a room up. You wish you had a fraction of his happiness. You knew of his hardships, you understood why he was so mature even though you two were barely twenty.
“What's on your pretty little mind?” He smiled at you as he watched the stars you giggled, “why are you out here so late?”
The boy shrugged, “just wanted to see the stars,” you nodded at his answer, “I probably should head back,” Neteyam did not want to leave.
He wanted to rest here with you and talk but he promised his parents he’d watch over his sister.
A panic overcame you, it was instant and you didn't know why. Your heart rate picked up, “you should stay longer and watch the sky!”
He wasn't your mate, but you just felt this pull that he needed to be here with you. You couldn't explain lit in words.
He smiled looking at them, “I’d love to but I have to,” an excuse. Your mother always had one right before she left to see her friends.
What if Neteyam had a special friend and you spent too much time thinking if you wanted to be with him? “Are you sure? I bet they wouldn't notice if you were gone for ten minutes.”
Neteyam smiled that you wanted to hang out, I want to believe-,” you cut him off, “I can cook,” his head turned to look at you, “what?”
“I can cook, clean, heal, and hunt,” you stood up looking at him, “I can sew, I can carry heavy weights, and-,” he stopped you, “why are you saying this?”
Your eyes welled up, he did have someone else it didn't matter what you had or what you could do, “I can do anything you ask of me Neteyam,” you sobbed as he pulled you into a hug, “please, please don't leave me!”
His eyes widen, “[Y/n], I promise I’d never leave you,” he didn't know where this came from, “I like you, I’d never dream of hurting you.”
He went to go pick up your face and when he touched you, your face winced. He moved your face a little letting your cheek hit the sun. A bruise appeared and Neteyam’s eyes became hooded, he didn't care that he had to watch his sister. He wanted to know who would raise their hand to hit you.
“Who hit you?” you backed up a little touching your cheek, “it was nothing I-,” Neteyam came closer grabbed your hand, and kissed it, “I don't want to ask you again.”
You looked at him, he looked different not the warm boy you saw just minutes ago, “[Y/n], who the fuck hit you?”
