all i can think of are gotham villians that would 100% get incredibly possessive, pissy, and pouty when they have a dream of Y/N cheating on them.
Oswald? Yeah. Heâs waking up in a cold sweat, drinking himself into a hangover with lots of insecure thoughts, before being very standoffish the next day with you, maybe even a little mean. More irritated then usual. You can either wait it out for him to calm down and realize heâs being silly or heâll get hyper attentive to every move you make and accuse you of ACTUALLY cheating đ knock some sense into this man pls. superstitious and paranoid bird man thinks itâs a sign.
Jerome. Unlike Oswald, he will surprisingly gently wake up in the middle of the night. Theres no cold sweat or jolting awake, he just opens his eyes and stares at the ceiling for a few minutesâŚ.before settling on VIOLENTLY shaking you awake. Youâll be half asleep, and youll have to listen to him rant into the next day about how dream you is a total sleeze. Youâll be able to go back to sleep though, since his ranting is pretty much white noise. Despite this, heâs inwardly pouting. Will be passive aggressive the next day.
Jervis!!! He wakes up with a start and cannot erase the thought of someone else touching you. Makes him violently ill. Will polietly excuse himself from bed (Jervis, reader is asleep, they cant hear you) and will either throw up or just start tweaking. Wonât be able to fall back to sleep. The next day expect some eerily calm smiles and EXTRA affectionate doting, just incase you think you arent getting enough attention at home with him. which is where you belong.
they are all delusional. i love them sm

Would you do the dork squad with a reader who's insecure about their intelligence? A big thanks if you do want to write bout this lol ur writing is great btw
Absolutely my dear! Imma do bras first this one because I be feelin some animated boys
BTAS riddler, scarecrow and mad hatter with a s/o whoâs insecure about their intelligence
Riddler
Oh.
Oh sweetie
This man genuinely lets out as gasp and has to stop for a second.
He partially canât fathom it because, youâre dating him? He only goes for the best of course
But then he also realizes ah,no wait heâs the smartest man in the world and self humbles himself really quick
âDear I simply wouldnât have you as a partner if I thought you werenât intelligent!â
He starts getting âstuckâ on a few of his more harmless riddles, genuinely challenging to you but something he figured out when he first saw them
A bit of positive assurance goes a long way, turns out PDA has a use for other things outside of intimacy
Scarecrow
It hits especially hard for him due to his past of being a teacher
A truly intelligent person is knocked down by those beneath them then forced to let those feelings simmer
But with him? Itâs a different story
âWell for starters you see the appeal of my work so your a cut above most Iâll sayâďżź
He knows he has to give you some confidence so he goes to what he knows best:chemistry.
And it goes hard
This man practically has you working on the most complex stuff ever but because he knows you can do it
You thought youâd be making the safest compounds in the world? Oh dear naive one
And heâs swooning over you the entire time
Mad hatter
This also hits him personally with his background in neuroscience
âOh now dear youâre intelligent as they come!â
Heâs gushing over you now,I donât make the rules
He even teaches you about his cards! Theres a feather in your cap for some intelligence
Mind your this is all happening while heâs still gushing about you and how smart you are because jervis is big on words of affirmation

jervis tetch has a delusion disorder, the asylum employees know, even the batman.
particularly on nights like tonight where his luck runs short, his mind plays tricks on him.
his head hurts and when he opens his eyes it worsens the agonising and sharp pain. it takes him a moment to completely open his eyes, and he becomes befuddled.
alice is directly in front of him. saying something and moving the hair out of his face, it seemed to have been stuck there.
he focuses for a moment and her words deeply confuse him.
"you fucking idiot, what the hell happened?" ouch. when did she ever learn to use such colorful language..
there's a snapping of fingers by his ear which startles him but he can't seem to find words, his throat hurts for some reason. where is he?
"seriously, why would anyone put effort into robbing you? and find enough care to try and knock you out. it's not like you're particularly dangerous by yourself."
why on earth is she being so mean? well. she is normally mean but not to this extent, she doesn't know he's a rogue either so what on earth?
to get somewhat away from her, he pulls his hat over his head further than necessary. ah, that's why his head hurts, he's apparently bleeding and has just smeared blood down his nose and up his hat.
alice - seems to huff with annoyance and takes his hat from him, pricking his wrist with something after doing so.
he pouts at her, whatever did he do to be treated so aggressively?
and then she fades, his now admittedly confusing visual delusion fades. no this is not alice, this is somewhat fortunately the scarecrow. he thinks briefly if she truly talked to him that way he would be eternally hurt.
said dear scarecrow presumably frowning back at him, only tell being this close he can see the scarecrows dark eyes squinted through those glossed lenses.
"earth to hatter. force out of your daze or we'll leave you here." oh that's right, there's others behind him, but focusing on more than one thing currently makes his head throb.
he scrubs at his face, finding his gloves not on his hands for some reason - whoever had hit him in the head probably having them in their possession.
"medicine.. hare. medicine." dear god does he sound horrible, did his attacker try strangling him first?
the scarecrow rolls his eyes and grabs him quite roughly, bringing him to stand. "you're fully medicated currently, you don't need anything. mild toxin seems to make you an idiot apparently."
oh and that is something to think about later for sure, now however he will dazedly follow along and try to remember the crime plans talked about just yesterday.

barges in/ WHAT ABOUT BTAS JERVIS X READER?
OWO
why, thank you for asking đ i've had this persistent concept knocking around my brain wherein Jervis earnestly tries to move past his devotion for Alice...only to tumble straight back down into obsession when he meets You đł
Jervis Tetch x Reader First Meeting headcanons
đŠ although it pains him to admit it, the years of unrequited love have taken their toll on Jervis. his Alice is long goneâdeparted from Gotham with her now-husband (filthy brute), with a new name and her hair dyed a mousey brown. as far as he can tell, she's dropped off the map entirely, and it's been nearly a year since he last caught any trace of her. months in yet another cold, lonely stint at Arkham leave his soul more empty than ever before...and he decides, one lovelorn night, that such suffering should not befall a gentleman. although the thought sickens him, Jervis resolves that when he gets out, he is going to make a fresh start...even just for a while.
đŠ when finally he next escapes (his technology being instrumental in a jailbreak largely orchestrated by the other rogues, of courseâno need for him to do their dirty work), Jervis makes good on his promise and leaves Gotham for a few cities over. he travels in civilian clothes and fights the urge to wear any sort of hat, fearing that even a simple cap could betray his identity. yet the experiment is a success. within days he has sequestered himself in an unassuming little apartment, and even ventured out to speak with a neighbour or two, none of whom recognise him as The Mad Hatter. it's a queer feeling, not seeing fear reflected in the eyes of those around him...and it gives him a quiet thrill which makes him forget himself, leaving Jervis grinning far too wide.
đŠ still, Jervis is a man with certain compulsions. he's partial to an afternoon walk, and at 3 o'clock exactly makes his way out into his new city, looking for nothing in particular and simply enjoying air without walls. however, he soon comes across a quaint little teashop, its sign scrawled in a delightful Shakespearean font and the windows ringed with English ivy. "How serendipitous," Jervis murmurs to himself. "I shan't pass up an opportunity such as this...after all, you'd only have to whisper a hint to Time, and round goes the clock in a twinkling!"
đŠ Jervis orders his usual beverage without incident and takes a seat which gives him an excellent view of the whole teashop. his discerning blue eyes scan the room, but it isn't until he's cleared half the customers that he realises he was searching for a glimpse of Alice's golden hair. Jervis sighs, and takes a long, sad sip of his teaâonly to splutter when he spots You in the corner of the room. You are tucked up with your legs crossed, your nose buried in a book. there's a little half-smile on your face, and Jervis watches with interest as you chuckle at something you read. he stares at You and the book, and an icy chill of recognition works its way down his spine.
đŠ before he can stop himself, Jervis abandons his tea and makes his way over to You. for a full minute he looms over You quite unnoticed, so absorbed You are by your book. after quietly clearing his throat does not catch your attention, Jervis opts to take the direct approach. "Excuse me, my dear." You look up, curious. Jervis smiles with all his teethâtoo bright, too intense. "I do hope you'll forgive my impudence, interrupting you on a fine day such as this. But may I ask...what are you reading?"
đŠ "Oh!" You say with a giggle. You turn the book towards Jervis, revealing the cover. "I'm reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It's my favourite story."

Hello :) please may I request a extra fluffy Jervis Tetch x reader one shot with reader being obsessed with Alice in Wonderland and their outfits are nearly always influenced by it and the characters? â¤ď¸đĽ°
Alice and the Hatter
Jervis Tetch x Reader
Summary: Jervis only wants to fuel Reader's love for Alice in Wonderland by showing them just how much they care.
Warnings: Mentions of Reader wearing a dress, mentions of past judgment towards Reader (not from Jervis)
Word Count: 1,089
A/N: This sounds like the perfect match for Jervis!
"Darling, I am growing rather impatient out here."
You tried to stifle your giggle behind your hand.
Jervis always had a hard time waiting to see you in your newest outfits. If it were up to him, he'd be in that fitting room with you right now, helping you into the silk dress.
But you enjoyed torturing him just a bit. Making him wait to see the full outfit with the shoes, jewelry, and other accessories always filled you with a sense of excitement. Jervis always praised you and made you feel so warm, making it impossible to not crave it every time.
Unfortunately, you weren't always met with such positivity in the past.
Your love for Alice in Wonderland started back when you were a child, having fell in love with the novel right away. And when you watched the Disney film, it only solidified that passion for you.
Your friends and family thought it was sweet that you found something you loved so much. But as you got older, they began to make remarks about it being childish and odd.
You were an adult now; you were supposed to like adult things.
This caused you to feel judged in a way that almost made you stop your obsession altogether. But meeting Jervis quite literally flipped the switch for you.
You've never met anyone in your life who accepted you and supported you as much as he did. You swore that you could wrap a plastic bag around your legs and he'd say that you were absolutely stunning.
And loving Alice in Wonderland only fueled that connection between you two.
The first moment he looked at you, wearing a light blue top and white pants with your hair styled softly, his eyes went wide. You'll never forget how he looked at you that day.
It was scary, falling in love with one of Gotham's most notorious criminals. But Jervis was willing to prove to you just how much you meant to him in every way.
Impromptu trips to the store to get you any clothing item or piece of jewelry your heart desired, waking up to the smell of freshly baked cakes for a tea party later, and even gentle massages with words of praise were all things Jervis regularly spoiled you with.
Of course, not all of these adventures were easy-going. There was a part of Jervis that liked being a criminal. He often stole from stores if he saw something he thought was perfect for you. And Jervis would not hesitate to discard lives like trash if it meant doing something that would make you happy.
It was scary at times, but you and Jervis were one and the same. There's a part of you that also enjoyed the thrill.
With that being said, you still loved the down time you both would share instead too.
Every night, he'd ask you to read to him from the Alice in Wonderland novel, staring up contently at you.
He was just as loving behind doors as he was out in public. He always said you were his muse, and Jervis had a way of making you believe it.
You finally met someone who loved the book and fantasy world as much as you did. It honestly felt like a match made in heaven.
Jervis pulled you from these thoughts with a soft knock on the fitting room door.
"Darling, please don't make me wait any longer. I am dying to see you."
The slight rasp in his voice had you melting.
You took one last look in the mirror and pulled open the door, meeting Jervis's relieved face.
His eyes widened a bit as he took you in, a growing smile spreading across his lips.
You had found the perfect dress at this store. A baby blue silk dress with a white sash fit wonderfully across your waist. The material stopped right at your knees and flared out a bit, accentuating your figure beautifully.
You had even found a pair of black heels that fit perfectly with the dress. You felt like a princess, like you were in your own wonderland.
Jervis took your hands in his and pulled you close to him, his eyes lifting to meet yours.
"You are the most remarkable person I have ever met," he spoke softly, lifting your right hand to his lips.
Even after all of this time together, you still couldn't help but flush at his words.
He raised your arm up and made you do a little spin so he could get a better look at your outfit.
"I feel like I look just like her," you remarked, referring to the character you adored so much.
He chuckled a bit. "I would say even better."
He took a couple steps back and admired you some more, making you feel a little shy once again.
"I think you're missing something, however."
You tilted your head in confusion at this.
"What?" you asked softly.
It was then that Jervis pulled out a small black box, handing it to you.
"For you, my love."
You could feel the smile that graced your features stretch even more as you took the box and began to undo the elegant ribbon wrapped around it.
Once the lid was off, your eyes were immediately fixed at the glittering sight before you.
In the box sat an antique necklace, the pendant being a small clock that was ticking along with the seconds.
You could feel your jaw drop open at its beauty. Out of all the accessories and clothes Jervis has gotten you, this really took the cake. You had always rambled on and on about finding something like this, and now seeing it right in front of you only proved to you that this was the perfect choice. There was no way you were ever going to take this off once it was on.
"Jervis..." you whispered, still completely in awe.
"It took me ages to find it," he responded just as quietly.
You gently traced your finger along the gold exterior, relishing in how the cool metal felt against your skin.
"I love you," was all you could get out.
There was not another thought in your mind other than this.
You looked up at him and found him still gazing at you, his eyes a bit glassy.
"As do I love you."
He pressed a warm kiss to your lips, only pulling away to help clasp the exquisite piece of jewelry around your neck.
As you played with the little clock hanging against your chest, Jervis was already leading you out of the store, ready to start the surprise date night he had planned.

Some doodles for a story idea for my Jervis that Iâm playing around with
Below is the full idea that I got
So, I had this this idea that my Jervis falls out of love with Alice
Where during a confrontation inside of a factory between him Alice, and her new husband, Aliceâs husband knocks out Jervis with a shovel and he takes a fall from the balcony theyâre on
He survives, thankfully something was able to cushion his fall, but is knocked unconscious
But Alice and her husband donât know that and they panic that they just killed Jervis
They try to check on him but the factory is unfortunately the Scarecrowâs hideout and he appears to scare them off
Though Jonathan does take pity on Jervis and nurses him back to health, though he does try to rationalize that âOh! Alice didnât mean to leave me behind! She would be right outside to help me!â
And then he sees her driving away with her husband
This SHATTERS his heart and Jonathan, being the weird crow man he is, offers to help Jervis out and commit crimes together
Then what happens is the start a beautiful yet terrifying friendship and Jonathan gives Jervis a much needed self reflection on if he needs Alice
Though, once Alice and her husband find out that Jervis is alive and okay, the reunion is going to be painful
This is the idea! :D

đ°JERVIS TETCHđ° GOTHAM CENTRAL MEETING THE KIDS HEADCANONS
A/N: Hey there! I've had this idea in my head for the past 2 days so I hope you like it! Also, I'm afraid the fanfic curse has reached me, I've just started posting my work and I chopped a piece of my finger of. Nothing major but still hurts a lot!
OK, robotics, not really your area of expertise...
But Jervis was so excited to introduce you to the kids and you love seeing him excited...
When you knock on the door you realize "well, there is no going back..."
The Landlady could be a bit more welcoming, its like you can feel the daggers she is throwing at your back
The things you do for that man...
And lord have mercy, if you thought you were a nerd get ready because those kids are something else...
It's like you've stepped into a Big Bang Theory episode
Bit they are nice
It will take a bit to remember their names bit you got the gist of it: Connie was the girl with the red hair, Dennis was the tall one and Dustin was the glasses one.
They were very welcoming but very curious too...
After the presentations were over they just delft into questions about your relationship making Jervis get so red in the face you thought he would explode!
Connie was the most curious one, but she was sweet calling everything you said romantic and having a dreaming face
After all three had time to ask questions Jervis was quick to divert the conversation into what really matters, the close approach of the Science Fair!
And how those kids were excited! It was like they were vibrating on the spot!
Well, you tried to help but even the easiest of tasks were a bit to complicated for you, but they were as excited to teach you!
After hours of wires and motherboards the Landlady interrupted the lesson to remind you that it was getting too late for kids to be out in the streets (and may have implied that it was late for you to be at her house too)
And that marked the end of your stay, it was quite successful if I do say so myself!
After the proper goodbyes it was just you and Jervis on the street
His face was red but he had a pleasant smile on
As you give his kiss goodbye you could swear you saw a little red hair on the window spying on you...

12 Days of Kinkmas ⢠Day 10: Cuckold - General!Hatter x GN!Reader request info ⢠prompt list ⢠send me a request ⢠kofi ⢠masterlist ⢠dividers minors DNI!! đ cw for nsfw stuff: cum play, cuckoldery, sex with a stranger
Laying on the bed, you watched as the backside of the figure, the stranger invited over for one purpose only, leave the room to get dressed. Once he was gone, you smiled, a slight hint of cruelty lingering there at the corner of your mouth as you called out.
âJervis, sweetheart. Itâs not wrapped, but I have a little present for you.â
He stepped through the door not a moment later, making it painfully obvious that he had been standing and listening to, or even watching, your earlier dalliance with the stranger he had picked out. When you both had first discussed the idea of having someone else service you, Jervis had been unsure about whether he would rather give you privacy, or watch the entire thing, and heâd clearly made that decision at the last minute. Whatever point he had begun to watch, you werenât sure, since you were otherwise distracted.
As he stood patiently at the side of the bed, you looked to him, eyes half-lidded, still catching your breath after your intense session with your esteemed guest for the evening. He was wearing nothing, except for his top hat, a bowtie around his bare neck, and a nervous smile. He tried his hardest to hide his arousal, but his cock bobbed and twitched as his eyes passed over your body, laying in repose, slick and sweaty.
âItâs also late, I guess⌠but itâs still the season of giving. So please, enjoy.â
Gesturing to your body, you pointed out the spattering of cum on your abdomen, uneven splotches and lines of the warm, sticky liquid painting your body. Licking at his lips, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment at how desperate he was to partake, Jervis let his body fall to the bed, his top hat knocked askew as he landed on the mattress. You straightened it up as he lowered his head, his chin resting on your stomach as he glanced to you, whining in excitement when you nodded your approval.
Pressing his tongue out, a soft whimper escaped his throat as he tasted the first tang of the strangerâs cum against your hot, exhausted body. Entirely too fucked out to make any efforts, you lay there, completely still, letting his clean you up, fulfilling his duties.
âI hope youâre grateful for this, itâs the only gift I have for you this year.â
Briefly distracted from the task in front of him, he spoke.
âItâs exactly what I wanted, thank you.â

Mornings, Afternoons, Evenings.
Jervis Tetch X FoodServer!reader
NOTES: Based on this dumb post I made about a rogue falling for a worker, but instead of a psychiatrist or doctor it's the fucking food service people. (Maybe I'll even open up my requests soon OoooOooO)
----------
Mornings, Afternoons, and Evenings.
That's when he saw you.
Jervis awoke in his small holding room. It's white. A blinding white. He's tired of the bland exterior, where is the color and whimsy of wonderland when he needs it the most? Not to mention he wore this ugly shade of teal as his robes. Any longer and he'd lose it... more.
Jervis was given small privileges by the staff here and there. He wasn't a high risk patient anymore, so that meant he could have a phone in his room. Sure, he couldn't call anyone outside the asylum and he really only used it to ask for the menu items of the day but it's the thought that counts! Oh, and he has all the paper he could ask for! What for? Um...
Okay maybe he didn't have that many privileges. Really all he does is design hats and color anyway.
7:13 am, the phone rings, startling the middle aged man out of his hat creating zone. He hesitated at first, he never had the phone call HIM. So, curiously, he picked up the phone. "Hello?" Jervis asked.
...
Oh, they're just asking for his breakfast order.
BREAKFAST
The man's hungry. "Oh, where is that o-"
Three knocks interrupt his train of thought, and then the door swings open. "Food service! May I come in?" A sing songy voice asks. He's impressed, was the universe listening to him?
"Er, yes. Come in, dear." He stumbled with his words. The nurses usually gave him a light styrofoam type tray for his food. He must be getting better then.
In walks in a worker Jervis had never seen before. The grey work polo, the black pants and shoes, a dangling ID. It wasn't the appearance that got him curious. It was the voice. He needed to know more.
--------
You walk into the room, tray in your arms as you smiled at the man. "Good morning! Hope I didn't wake you up." You chuckle placing the tray on a nearby table. Truly, your customer service voice got people calm. They trusted you. YOU, however, only got paid 17 an hour. Could you give more of a shit? Maybe if you were given 20 an hour instead.
"Oh, not at all.. um.." The man replied, looking at you with soft eyes. "I thought the nurses delivered our trays?" He asked, looking at the breakfast with a smile. You just shrugged "We have a list of patients who we can't serve to physically, but looks like you're not on it anymore." You nod and pump the hand sanitizer bottle before stepping out of the room.
"Wait!" Cried Jervis. You turned your head curiously "Anything else I can do for you?"
"What's your name?"
-------
LUNCH
Jervis couldn't stop thinking about the delivery person he spoke with. Alice wouldn't work a 9-5, er.. 6-7:30, right? Wonderland is a strange place, however. Nothing is impossible. After only two weeks, Him and that mysterious server seemed to hit it off too. They talked about the mess the styrofoam trays make, especially considering how flimsy they are, how some of the doctors got on their nerves, and the exhaustion that was walking around Arkham. During their chat, they explained that they only really serve the box tea to the patients. "BUT if you ask nicely, I can sneak you some different kinds I find in the storage room." The server joked. Jervis hated the unsweetened tea, it was always cold. Who the fuck serves tea COLD?!
After sending in his lunch order, he prayed he'd see you again. They could talk about literature, as you mentioned you hadn't really been reading much as of late. It was obvious what he'd recommend, but it's the thought that counts. Your eyes, your voice, how you for some reason always smelled like mustard. (Apparently that's just how the kitchen smells)
Knock Knock Knock..
Jervis's ears perked up. Watching the door swing open made his heart flutter. Oh, to see your beautiful face, though half covered in a mask with hair tucked away into a hairnet, he didn't care. All he smiled for was that you were here. "Yes, yes! Come in, dear."
As he finally got a good look at the figure opening his door, he noticed.. wait, that's not you. That's someone else entirely. How cruel the universe was! "Um.. You're not.."
They look up at the man and sighed "Understaffed today. One called out sick, another just quit." Jervis was perplexed. Which one were you? Sick? Oh, he wishes he was there to hold you. You must be miserable, poor dear. Or did you had quit? Did you need a friendly ear to lend? Was today that bad?
The server placed the tray on the table and left. Jervis was left alone with his thoughts again, leg bouncing with anxiety. Did you need help? Did.. you need him? Hid heart ached just thinking about it. Maybe it was too soon, and this was the universes way of saying "slow down there." But he couldn't ignore how he felt.
----------
DINNER
Two weeks.
Two WHOLE WEEKS.
Jervis had been released from Arkham. He hid his true feelings of obsession worry from doctors and psychiatrists taking notes in their little booklets. It wasn't fair! You and him didn't even get to say a proper goodbye! And here he is, angrily huffing about as he steps into the thrift store.
He can't really afford nice things, but the tea cups here were truly pretty enough to catch his eye. Sure they looked a bit scattered when one cup had flowers and kittens and another pictures from nature, but that's Wonderland baby! Scattered and strange. Plus, retail therapy was always good.
As he walked through the kitchen ware aisle, he scanned his surroundings for new tea sets or perhaps a kettle. Not many people entered the thrift store on a Thursday evening, they usually come for the Monday sale. But every once in a while, he'd see someone in the same aisle as him.
And God is he thankful he turned his head. Because there you were. In all your glory.
His breath hitched, heart pounding as his cheeks flushed. It was you, wasn't it? His mind wasn't playing tricks, was it? You turned to face him and stopped.
"... Jervis Tetch?"
He gulped. "Y-Yes?"
"I KNEW IT WAS YOU!" Your smile widened as you walked closer to the man. "Holy crap man, you're out already? I figured you would've been, nice to see you!"
Jervis wanted to take your hand into his warm gloved one. God, he couldn't hold back. But he must. "Aha! Yes, yes.. It's good to see you. I didn't get to say goodbye, what happened?" He asked.
You raised an eyebrow in confusion, then remember what he meant "Oh! Yeah, had some stuff to take care of.. and by that I mean I called off "Sick"!" You giggled. Oh, you silly little rabbit. Jervis sighed in relief. You were safe.
"I'm glad to see you're safe.. could we grab a cup of tea perhaps?"
The store was about to close anyway. What else is there to do for dinner?

Batman: The Animated Series - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Jervis Tetch
A brilliant and eccentric neurologist, Jervis Tetch worked in the experimental medicine division of Wayne Enterprises. He was assigned to explore means of strengthening the brain to fight off neurological diseases, yet found himself developing technology that would not strengthen the mind but rather enslave it. Using a series of electric antennae and receivers, he succeeded in controlling the behaviors of a group of lab rats. He manipulated their actions through a broadcaster band fastened around his forehead. With a stronger circuit, Tetch was certain that this same process would work on humans; that he could control people to bend to his will. Â
Desperately lonely, Tetch was in love with a secretary at the office named Alice. She looked just like the titular character of he most favorite book, Alice in Wonderland and was a sweet, innocent and kind young woman. Tetch succeeded in augmenting his mind-controlling technology and considered using it to force Alice to love him back⌠and yet he wanted her as a partner not a slave. Â
When Aliceâs boyfriend broke things off, Tetch seized on the opportunity to sweep her off her feet. Donning a costume, he dressed himself as Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter. Armed with his mind control technology (which he had imprinted on to circuit cards encoded with the Hatter's signature 10/6 logo), Tetch took Alice out on the town, creating the illusion that he was a celebrity, respected all about Gotham City.
Although the night went quite well, Alice saw his actions as merely the kindness of a good friend. And when Billy apologized and subsequently proposed to her, Alice happily accepted.
Tetch became unhinged upon hearing of Alice's engagement. If he could not have Alice as his companion then he would have her as his pawn. He became The Mad Hatter and used his circuit cards to enslave Alice and a group of others, taking over the story-book land area of Gotham Park as his makeshift kingdom. Â
Batman interceded, fighting off the enslaved minions the Hatter threw at him. The broadcaster band that Tetch used to control his pawns was fastened into the brim of his hat. When Batman knocked this hat off, the pawns all regained their senses and The Mad Hatter was defeated. Alice and the others were freed and Tetch was sentenced to Arkham Asylum.
It would not be the last time The Dark Knight would go up against The Mad Hatter. Indeed the villain would return on numerous occasions, becoming one of Batman's most formidable of foes.
The great Roddy McDowall provided the voice for Jarvis Tetch/The Mad Hatter, with the villain first appearing in the twenty-seventh episode of the first season of Batman: The Animated Series, âMad as a Hatter.â

Christmas Eve. Madilyn was planning to call her parents tomorrow while opening the gifts they sent her, but despite having made plans something still felt missing⌠Of course, she knew what it could be: the only man in Gotham she could get romantically attached to was a criminal mastermind whose absences worried her at times. He said heâd be here tonight⌠He didnât get arrested again, did he?âthere was nothing about him on the news right nowâŚ
Despite how she tried to reassure herself, the fear still haunted herâup until a little after 10 that night when she heard a knock on her apartment door.
She reacted immediately; hopping out of her seat and hurrying towards the door. The relief she felt upon opening the door and seeing the man she was waiting for all night was obvious from her expression.
âMadilyn, my dear, Iâm sorry Iâm lateââ Jervis Tetchâs words were interrupted by Madi throwing her arms around him with an audible sigh of relief; the impact nearly making him drop the gift he held in hand.
âYou⌠said youâd be here at nightfall,â she murmured.
âOhh, I knowâand I do most apologize for the delay,â the Mad Hatter crooned, a gloved hand resting on the girlâs back. âBut the sun hasnât risen yet, has it?~ The nightâs not too far gone, and weâre here together now~â
He gently pulled away before handing Madi her gift. âTo make up for the long wait, why donât you go ahead and open this?~â
The girl took the gift bag with curious sparkling eyes, her excitement having returned now that Jervis was finally here. Opening it up and sifting through the tissue paper for a moment, a soft gasp escaped her as she pulled out a white rabbit plush⌠specifically the Wonderland white rabbit, with the waistcoat and pocket watch.
âYou remembered,â she murmured.
âWhen youâre in love, my little rabbit,â Jervis replied with a smile, âyou canât help wanting to remember everything about them~â

'DON'T BLAME ME, [PART THREE]
-GOTHAM!JERVIS TETCH X READER-
â đđđđđđđđ ; You're finally alone with him. He kind of makes you nervous.
â tags/warnings. GOTHAM!jervis x female reader. SLOW BURN!!! Not sure how many chapters this will be yet! LOTS OF PLOT SET-UP!! AGE GAP ROMANCE! (reader is Jim and Barbara's daughter) Jervis and reader are finally alone for the first time. The slow burn is slow burning. She fell first, he fell harder. Readers not sure if she's actually starting to like him, or if she's just intrigued by him. Writing this kind of artistically and as character studies for everyone. Jervis being an obsessive freak, per usual. Jervis is against smoking lmao. I'm taking canon out back and beating it with a stick until it stops twitching.

⍠âI've been breakin' hearts a long time, and toyin' with them older guys, just playthings for me to use.â Don't Blame Me by Taylor Swift
You'd been having dreams about him, since your second meeting.
The way he spoke; with poise and elegance, as though he was apart of one of Gotham's eldest families. A part of you think he's hiding something. But he didn't have the air of arrogance, nor were any of the old money men going around doing magic shows for clubs.
Every dream was the same. It was cheesy. It felt like a shitty romcom. He would stare deep into your eyes. Tell you the same thing each time, big black orbs looking into your own.
"Look right into my eyes." His voice sounded, echoing through the chamber of your mind. "Not above them, not around them, into them."
You'd try to look away in an attempt in teasing him. Petulant defiance. You got that tactic from your mother.
But each time you looked away- his fingers would brush against your chin, simply pulling you back to him. He'd offer that smug, quiet smirk. Maybe he did have an air of arrogance.
Each time you woke up, you shook it off. It was just a coincidence. You saw him twice. Nothing special about him.
Coming back to the present, you huff. You're outside the club, on the balcony. The air is crisp and the lights of Gotham shine beneath you and further. You can't see the horizon.
You come out here, sometimes, for a smoke break. Tabitha always reprimands you. "Those are bad for you. Hand it over."
You always get Selina to steal you a new pack of Marlboro reds from one of the clubs frequents. You shudder to think what your dad would say if he found out.
Probably try to arrest you. Underage smoking. You joke to yourself and you snicker.
You watch the smoke come out in puffs. It's kind of tragically beautiful. The way the blue light of the club and city fades into it. It mesmerizes you.
A slight knock sounds to the entrance of the balcony doorframe. On instinct, you try to hide the cigarette, wildly brushing away the smoke.
Mr. Tetch, or rather, Jervis, stands in the doorframe. He leans against it, eyes focused on you. That damned smile plays on his face as he watches you desperately try to put out the cigarette on the balconies edge.
You clear your throat.
"What are you doing here?" You put on your best intimidating voice to conceal the nerves his smile sends you. You try to emulate your dads voice as best you can.
He chuckles, softly. He seemingly ignores the question.
"My, my. You look like you're having an interesting time up here." He drawls, eyes drifting down to the cigarette in your hands. You feel heat rise to your cheeks. "May I join you?" He asks, soft.
You give a begrudged nod. "Um. Yeah."
He nods as he comes closer to you, stopping by your side. You avert his gaze from his. "Thank you," he replies.
He sits down next to you, humming a foreign tune as he looks up. He doesn't seem to notice that you seem nervous, just sitting there, observing him. He finally looks at you, staring at your face, still humming.
"Beautiful night, is it not?" He asks, inhaling the air.
You shrug. "Eh. I've lived here forever. All nights in Gotham are kind of the same."
"Is that so?" He raises an eyebrow. "You don't find yourself...mesmerized by the night?" He says it with a chuckle, staring at the sky, lost in thought.
You pause. What an odd thing to ask. You suppose he's a bit of an odd man, though.
"The nights are better than the mornings. At night, you can just be free. No restraints." You find yourself resting your head in your hands on the balcony. The small action makes him stare at you- expression unreadable. Between the haze of the city lights...the tall man over your shoulder...the left-over smoke, it all feels dream-like.
"Indeed. At night...all our problems and worries suddenly vanish. The city lights and the silence of it all, make one feel truly free and calm." He says, like it's poetry. You hang off his every word.
"Shouldn't you be back inside, doing your act in the club right now?" You perk your head up, remembering he does have a job. He works for your mom. What are you doing?
"Oh, yes I should. But alas, the night was much more appealing," He pauses. You hum in understanding.
"...Cigarette?" You offer. He looks at it, then back to you, regaled. He shakes his hand, putting his hand up to stop you.
"No, thank you." He utters. "Aren't you a bit young to be smoking?" He stares at you with an intensity.
"No. Yes. Maybe." You respond, small. He grins.
"How interesting. You must know, it's awfully bad for you." I shrug at his words, thoughts flying back to Tabitha.
"Yeah yeah, I know. Feels good though."
A slow moment of silence overtakes you two as he grabs your arm gently, and you jump at the contact. Looking over your shoulder, you find him staring deep into your eyes. And the ticking of a pocket watch. Oh shit.
"Look right into my eyes." His voice sounds like velvet. "Not above them, not around them, into them." Unlike the dream, you're frozen in place. No room to turn.
"Now, do I have your attention?"
You nod. He hums, delighted.
"You will stop smoking these, or any other narcotics for that matter." A faint sound of concern...or disgust...slips it's way into his voice. You find yourself bemused, but willing to obey.
"Very good. Now throw the cigarettes off the ledge, yes?" Beside yourself, you do exactly as he says. He pats your head in praise, and you're utterly confused.
"You'll have no memory of this. Three...two...one. Awake." He counts down, looking at you. You blink into consciousness, unaware of what just happened. You feel dizzy.
"Mr. Tetch...?" You ask him, eyebrows scrunched together. He gives you an innocent look.
"I should get going, my dear. Wouldn't want to be late for my very own show." He breathes. "Very nice seeing you."
You swear he disappears before your eyes. You realize your jacket feels lighter. Where did your cigarettes go? Huh. Whatever. You've been meaning to quit anyways.

Hi! First off I love you're writing your very talented! And second how do you think the riddlers would react to finding out they have a teenage daughter they never knew about (how inherited there smarts and sass)and something happened to the mom so they have nowhere to go so they track him down.
Oh geez itâs dad angst timeđ this is just a bunch of boys dealing with the younger versions of themselves. Also sorry this took so long anon!
The riddlers finding out they have a teenage daughter
Warning:mentions of death
Arkham
It was out of pure annoyance when he actually answers the phone after 13 missed calls from Jonathan crane.
So when Jon casually invites him over saying he needs talk to him heâs even more miffed. And then he finds this kid having tea with the dr, who the hell was she-?
âAh Edward so nice of you to join us,this wonderful young lady has been trying to find some way to reach you.â
The her in question was a rather well put together 16 year old girl who was like a mirror of his younger years. She certainly had his eyes. Eleanor, her name was Eleanor
Heâs not stupid and he puts two together quite easily.
Mom gone to cancer, the youngster was left in Gotham to survive on her own with only the understanding that he was her father. Her mother had apparently kept his tie from the fateful evening.
Apart of him him tells himself to just not bother with her,the other stronger side tells him not to be his father
Things are tense at first with moving in. Heâs never really shared a space before with anyone so heâs avoidant at first. Not thinking sheâs going to be much help with his projects
He is completely surprised when he finds out she knows her way around electronics
But then he realizes the kid has his photographic memory. And his sassâŚâŚ
âWhen was the last time you took a shower?â âPlease explain to me a how a shower will improve any of my plans.â âSimple: youâll stop me from dying from gross sewer dad smell.â
It irritates the hell out of him but when she startâs jabbing at the other rouges heâs a proud man.
They bond over getting work done,so much time lost yet there making up for it real quick
She created a rather wacky Rubikâs cube that left Batman puzzled for at least two days
Of course he got a kick out of taunting the dork knight while also genuinely being proud of his daughter
Itâs hard to get used to hearing the word âdadâ in relation to him but itâs a title he âhumblyâ accepts in the end
BTAS
He received a knock on his door one extremely sunny morning
Gina found him after his âreformationâ and partnership with wacko toys was announced to the public. It wasnât hard tracking down a man in the spotlight
Edward is of course absolutely stunned by the realization.
To his understanding the girl from metropolis knew the basics of his criminal career. The off traps and puzzles were something well known outside of the city.
He feels out of obligation to take her in,I mean heâs a villain but not a monster. Kid gets say down with some hot coco
Of course when he is brought back to Arkham the poor kid is quick to go and visit him and calm him down as well as work on a way to get him out
Heâs rather surprised when he get broken out by jervis and Jonathan and they have him a letter from his prodigy with little xoxoâs and detailed escape plans
When he does get home he pretty much is dead set on teaching her everything he possibly can,how he got the virtual reality set up to work, his more simple traps
Of course just like her dear old dad sheâs quick to design some of her own.
âA nothing machine that actually does somethingâŚâŚ. Out of the box but I adore the ingenuity.â âAt least itâs more safe than the vr incidentâ
BTAA
It was another day of Eddie not being able to figure something out using the box method, unfortunately sticking two nuclear bombs and a tricycle and an old Macintosh in the box just wasnât cutting it that day.
Cue Tuesday getting a phone call from Miss autumn at the behest of scarecrow
âHey Eddie do you have any kids you forgot to tell me about?? âNoâŚ.why?â âOh geezâ
Heâs basically the surprised pikachu face meme when he meets Tina, kid was smart enough to get the drug king pin of Gotham to listen to her.
She looks so much like him!!
Of course heâs still skeptical! I mean any kid can just say there his! (But still!)
That completely disappears when the kid creates her own gizmos that rival her fathers
Of course rivaling his intellect means also rivaling his ability sass and make fun of everyone else
âA toaster with a tv screen?â âI know,I know not my best work.â âWell duh coulda thrown it in Gotham harbor and it would be more useful.â
Of course him and her quickly put their collective mind brains together and craft some rather complex new plans
Tuesday is totally chill with her around especially considering sheâs able to chill him out when heâs suffering from writers block
Really Edward just got another child on top of already having miss Tuesday. He loves his two daughters from their two different origins
Zero year
Moira visited his cell at Arkham shortly after his defeat at zero year
He was already not in the mood for visitors until the determined teen calls him an idiot in a lime colored pimp suit
Hey! He doesnât need some red headed brat coming in to his cell like she owns the place!
Oh waitâŚâŚ.
Letâs just say that he smartens up real quick to whatâs going on.
Initially wants to tell the kid to bug off,heâs got a criminal career to succeed in but sheâs quick to point out he doesnât have anything right now
So they come to an agreement: get him outta there and heâll maybe let her crash with him for awhile
So color him surprised when she gets him out safe with minimal bruising
Hell sheâs pretty damm smart he has to admit, she certainly didnât get it from her mother
He does ask eventually what became of his ex,a car crash left the poor kid with barely much. He was kinda her best and only option go figure
Heâs snarky with the kid for awhile,of course sheâs very quick to throw it right back at him
But they quickly start to getting together quite well especially when they DO get into a fight and quickly realize how stupid it was to begin with
I mean câmon, kid could probably rule Gotham in less than a week. Sheâs not someone he wants to scorn
Sheâs a pretty smart kid he guesses (he totally loves her heâs just got an ego)

Hi! I bring you Chapter 6 of "The Nightmare Before Halloween - The Scarecrow and the Hatter"
It's a bit long, but I really like it and I hope you do too! đ
+ Chapter 5 (Part 3)
9:29 PM - Apartment at Chinatown - 1 minute until the plan
The first apartment was really small. In the only bedroom was a camera in front of an empty chair. When Mad Hatter made our hostage, Tim Drake, come to me, I would make a live transmission asking for the ransom. I knew I wouldnât get it, but that would leave the police (and now the Batman as well) busy with something else. I also placed my laptop on the kitchen table to track the rest of the stuff.
âItâs time.â
âReady, Scarecrow?â
âReady.â
âTurning the masks on in 3⌠2⌠1.â
I couldnât see, but I can say what mustâve happened at that moment: everyone at the party stopped moving at the same time, dropping cups, plates or whatever they were holding. Then they heard Mad Hatterâs voice.
âWhat a beautiful party, such a joyous day! Oh, but youâve already had enough time to play⌠Now without any fuss and without any delay, head over to the Central Bank right away!â
I told one of my henchmen to take the van to the Central Bank and wait for the loot.
Step two was bringing the hostage. Only Tim Drake heard what was said next:
âExcept for you, little heir, you have somewhere else to go. Head to Chinatow first and there find the Scarecrow.â
And he began walking through the streets. In a couple of minutes I would go meet him and carry on with the plan.
To free Cameron Van Cleer of any possibility of blame or suspicion without controlling him, Jervis would use a random guest to âknock him outâ. We apologized to Drury a hundred times for that. But now, thanks to an unexpected event, we needed to get Bruce Wayne out of the picture as well. The solution that Mad Hatter found was to knock him out with another guest. In this case, the guest was Jason Todd.
This time, just the two chosen ones heard the voice:
âOh, you are strong, youâre staying then. Use your powers and knockout the rich men!â
Cameron went down immediately. But Bruce Wayne⌠It was a hell of a fight. Of course, there wasnât anyone to watch, so he didnât have to hide his true strength and abilities.
After 10 minutes, I was preparing to go down to the street when I heard the Mad Hatterâs angry voice:
âNo!â
âWhat is it?â
âHe broke the mask! Wayne freed Jason Todd!â
My heart raced. I went out of breath while bats flooded my mind.
âScarecrow?â
I tried to breathe, but it was hard. I ripped off my mask.
âJonathan! Talk to me! Breathe! Itâs⌠Itâs gonna be fine!â
âYouâre a bad liar, Jervis!â
I spoke through my teeth.
âAnd what do you want to do? You wanna turn back? Now?!â
I looked at my mask on the table. I wasnât going to quit now. My mind cleared, the bats turned to ash. I took a deep breath.
âNo. Letâs keep going.â
I put the mask back on and left the apartment. The elevator didnât work, so I had to take the stairs. In a couple of minutes I got to the ground floor, where Tim Drake was standing.
âLetâs go, kid.â
I grabbed him by the arm and guided him back up, taking him to the bedroom. I tied the boy to the chair with ease and then, using my laptop, connected the transmission to all of Gothamâs screens (thanks to Edward).
âHatter, Iâm turning on the camera.â
âWonderful. Iâmma put him to sleep. The guests just arrived at the bank.â
Everything was going fine. Ah, I wish.
The transmission started.
âGood evening, Gotham. My threat tonight is not directed to you, simple citizens, living your nightly lives. So donât make me change my mind. I address myself to the Prince of Gotham, Mr. Bruce Wayne. It seems you have lost something quite valuable, Mr. Wayne. I made sure to keep it for you.â
I took off Drakeâs mask, revealing his face to the camera. He was unconscious.
âI will be pleased to return the boy if you pay me what I ask. Youâll receive a call soon with all the information you need. I expect the money before midnight, or Gotham will hear him scream.â
As soon as the transmission ended, the time started counting. I would have approximately 10 minutes until the police or the Batman got the location and came to the building. I packed my things to leave after I made the call. Donât ask me how, but Nygma got Wayne Manorâs number. I couldnât use my cellphone, since they would surely try to track the call and I definitely didnât want Oracle hacking it. So I used the apartmentâs old phone. As I expected, the butler picked up.
âGood evening. Mr. Wayne isnât home at the moment. Can I ask him to return the call?â
âGood evening, Mr. Pennyworth.â
âOh, Dr. Crane? We definitely werenât expecting any calls from you before the 31st.â
âI decided to advance the festivities. You werenât watching the news, were you?â
âNo, Iâm afraid not.â
âInteresting choice of words, Mr. Pennyworth. Well, Iâll get straight to the point. Mr. Wayne has until midnight to send me $500,000,000 if he wants me to give back Timothy Drake-Wayne. So I hope he returns the call soon.â
I hung up. I went to check on the boy and he was waking up.
âOh, you woke up just in time.â
He tried to hide it, but I noticed he got scared when he saw me.
âWhat do you want now?â
âDonât worry, what I want is already getting arranged.â
âHow did I get here?â
âThatâs for later. Now, unfortunately, I have to leave you. If youâre still here by midnight Iâll come back to see you. But I can guarantee you wonât want that.â
I left the building and got back in the van.
âIâm heading to the second location. Keep me updated, Hatter.â

A/N: hey hi hello, sooo I still think about Love and Suds at least once a day and I have an itch to keep writing for it. Idk if it'll be like a long fic or anything but more like a collection of various one offs pertaining to a reader who loves Jervis and cause of that in turn tries to save him from going back to his old ways.Â
However, you donât necessarily have to read Love and Suds to read this scenario, but it may help provide context to the nature of reader and Hatterâs relationship.Â
Also, also I did not mean to post two Hatter fics in a row, I just really needed to get this dialogue chain out of my brain lmao
Trigger Warnings: slight angst, so hurt/comfort?, arguing, references to Jervisâ crimes, Batman being Batman (I really tried with him and like his weird stern way of showing concern?). Thatâs about it.
Word Count: 2.4 k (...oops)
âI give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.â - Alice, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
It was pitiful really.
As Jervis was checking himself over in the bathroom mirrorâŚhe found himself echoing the mental health checklist they often asked in the asylum.Â
âHow are you Tetch?âÂ
Good for once itâd seem.Â
âWhere are you right now?âÂ
Gotham, unfortunately.Â
âIn the past two weeks have you thought of hurting yourself or others?â
NoâŚactually.
âOn a scale of 1 to 10âŚhow are you feeling?âÂ
For once the answer would actually be higher than 5 and he actually means it. He wasnât being delirious or perpetually thrusting himself in a fantasy to make him happy.Â
He actually had somethingâŚsomeone rather that made reality worth being in.Â
Jervis scrunched up his nose and furrowed his eyebrows. DebatingâŚdictating.Â
ShouldâŚshould I wear my hat?
It didnât have any mechanisms or circuitry along the inside, like he initially planned for his newest hat when the rest were confiscated.Â
Jervis glanced back in the mirror for another glance. His hair was combed and not greasy, he was able to part it neatly and his bangs didnât cascade down past his forehead and were less spiky and erratic looking.Â
Darting his eyes back to his hat in his gloved handsâŚhe bit his lip. This shouldnât be as difficult as it was. He knew what the hat stood for, what it-it can represent. As many terrible things it was tied toâŚthe formal headgear gave him confidence. It made him stand taller, walk with his shoulders back.Â
It would be niceâŚto be confident without itâŚ
Inhaling, before he exhaled deeply.Â
Would you be proud of him if he didnât wear it?Â
The night was for you after all.Â
It had been a couple weeks since you swooped back into his life and pulled him from one of his darkest moments yet. You stayed with him by his side for a week, untilâŚyour reality set in and you had to go to work but you were always close by and he got to hear your voice every day.Â
As a thank you, Jervis offered to take you out to dinner. While at first you implored the thanks wasnât necessary, ultimately you couldnât deny the opportunity to spend time with him.Â
He began tracing the rim of his hat in thought. Perhaps he could bring it along and ask for your opinion when he saw you. You were always forthcoming and genuine with him. One of the many things he adored about you.Â
Jervis held the hat in his hands, still fiddling with the rim as he took a taxi to your apartment. The taxi driver didnât seem to fidget or notice a high profile villain was in his backseatâŚ
For all the nerves bundling and firing in his veins from anxietyâŚhe also couldnât deny the elation he felt at the prospect of finally seeing you again.Â
Jervis stood in front of your door, a fresh bouquet nestled in his hand. He rocked his knuckles along your door.Â
His blood ran cold when the pressure from the knock caused your door to open slightly.Â
Did you forget to lock it? Was it broken? Should he go in?Â
YouâYou knew him betterâŚyou knew he wouldnât break into your apartment for no reason other than to ensure your safety.Â
He softly pushed the door open more as he snuck in.Â
Should he sneak?Â
He called out your name as he crossed the threshold of your door. When he turned on his heel to close the door back, he noticed the broken lock mechanism on your door. He felt himself gritting his teeth.Â
No doubt you put in a complaint and theyâve gone ignoredâŚthis city couldnât careless if anything happened to you. He would, he cares, he cares more about you than any wretched being in this shallow cityâ
âI told you to leave! Heâs not doing anything wrong or going to do anything!âÂ
âYou canât be sureâŚâ
âI am sure. Because I am here now!â
Jervisâ ears perked up at your voice. The other one was too muffled for him to make out.Â
Oh, he shouldnât eavesdrop. ThatâŚthat was rude. Agh, be polite or be curiousâŚ
He at least wanted to know who the other person was.Â
Jervis noticed a small streak of the moonlight cascading down the hallway. That was likely your bedroom at the end of the short hallway. Jervis slowly crept down the hallway. He once again softly pushed the door open a little more to have one eye visible to the events unfolding.Â
âJervis Tetch is an extremely deluded individual. Heâhe is dangerous.â
âNot to me! He hasnât nor will he ever hurt me! Because I care about him, unlike you and unlike those doctors at Arkham! None of you cared! You just want another punching bag and the doctors want to be able to control the mindsâ of their patients. Nothing more!â
Batman? Batman! W-what was he doing here? To discuss him with you? And why did it seem like you two have had this conversation before?Â
Batman sighed as he jumped down from the metal railing and properly onto your balcony. You were sitting on the side of your bed looking up at the dark figure.
âI canâtâŚI canât ask for you to watch over him. Heâs too chaotic and you have your own life to liveââÂ
You stood up in fury. âDonâtâDonât! Donât get chivalrous with me oh, Dark Knight! I know what Iâm getting into.â
âDo you? Have you seen his case files? Seen the images of the countless women he-â
âIâm not oblivious to his crimes, Bat. You donât have to remind me.â You put your hands up to your hips. âIâI know what heâs done. Itâs horrible, but it couldâve been preventedâŚIt can be prevented.â You began rocking side to side, contemplating.Â
âTetch was a brilliant man. He could have done amazing things and accomplished great feats. But Iâm afraid heâs passed thatâŚand I donât want you to blame yourself for not being there for him to prevent his crimesââ
âStopâŚâ
âI donât want you to blame yourself, and now assign yourself as his guardianâŚyou may know him but so do I-â
âNo! No you donât! If you knew him so well you wouldnât have constantly called me to findout more about him! You came to me because you knew I knew him better. If you knew him, detective, you would know more than anything he needs help!â You argued.Â
Your fists were clenched and held against your chest. Your body shuddered as you fought back tears. Not wanting to show any vulnerability to the Dark Knight.Â
âHe needs helpâŚactual help, from someone that cares about him. That knows him for more than his criminal historyâŚâ
You saw Batman begin to open his mouth but you cut him off. âI know what Jervis did, Batman. Iâm not naive. You donât have to guilt trip me or shame me, itâs not going to work.âÂ
"If you know what he's done, you know what he's capable of. What happens when your own reality calls for you toâŚhave to leave Gotham, again? You can't always be there for Jervis. I agree he needs help, but help that's much bigger than youâŚ"
"Oh, you mean like you?" You snarled. "Someone who beats him up, throws him around, and locks him up in an asylum that wouldn't do any better! You don't care about himâŚnot like that Catwoman or better yet your precious clown."Â
Batman furrowed his brows. "You don't know what you're talking about. You're confused."Â
You shake your head defiantly, "Bullshit! You give that clown chances after chances, expecting a changeâŚhe's done terrible things too Batman. He's killed men, women, children. Husband's, wives, sons, duaghtersâŚ"Â
"Enough." Batman snapped. "This isn't about me. It's about you and Tetch. I'm trying to help you."
"You sure have a funny way of helpingâŚ" You sniffled, the tears slowly pouring from your eye ducts, no matter how hard you tried to push them down. "I-I-I I know I left when he needed me mostâŚI regret it every dayâŚI-I had no choice.."Â
Once Jervis heard your voice crackling from your tears and whimpers, it was like he snapped out of the trance he was in.Â
He heard every word. Every single word. Jervis didn't appreciate Batman's input a single bitâŚeven if deep down Jervis knew the Caped Crusader had a point.Â
"That's enough!" Jervis intervened.Â
You felt his familiar glove hands rest on your shoulders, giving you a comforting squeeze.Â
You almost jumped out of your skin at his voice and presence.
"Jervis! Oh my god, whereâŚhowâŚwhen-when did youâ?"Â
He squeezed your shoulders again. "It's all right, darling. Don't worry, I understand."
"Let them be, Jervis." Batman took a step closer to you two.Â
"Don't take another step, Dark Knight!" Jervis stood in front of you now. "I think you've upset them quite enough! I think it's best you make haste to whatever damp dark cave you call home!"Â
Your eyes widened as you saw Jervis began walking towards Batman almost going toe to toe with him.Â
"Jervis! Its-itsâ"Â
Batman didn't move as Jervis invaded his personal space. He was studying him, looking for any possible signs of the eccentric deluded man he's come to know.Â
There wasn't any. His irises were normal, his blood pressure wasâŚnormal even considering his angered state, he wasn't rhyming or chortlingâŚand he didn't have his hat.Â
Batman began walking backwards away from Tetch and back on to the balcony.Â
"Here's some good advice," he looked over Jervis' shoulder and towards you. "I know you care about him, it's admirable. But you can't do it alone. Best to get out while you can before you're in too deep."Â
With that he jumped up on the railing and began gliding through the brisk Gotham night air.Â
Jervis growled in annoyance as he slammed the door to your balcony shut.Â
"Rude. Positively rude! Breaking and entering! Harassing and interrogating an unsuspecting individual! Why I dareâ"Â
His enraged ramblings were brought to a halt when he heard your sniffling.
Jervis rushed back towards you. He got down on his knees in front of you. He quickly placed your hands in his and squeezed them as he looked up at you sitting on your bed. Tears flowing like a precious stone fountain.Â
"ShhâŚit's okay. I-IâŚI apologize for listening inâŚI justâŚnever knewâŚ"Â
You shook your head. "No, no I should apologize. I should've told you, but I didn't want you to think that I was siding with him or anything. What you saw was the norm. He comes storming in and asking questions and telling me what I should and shouldn't do with no regards for my actual thoughts and feelingsâŚ"Â
You squeezed his hands again. "IâŚI also want to apologize for leaving Gotham! I didn't want to Jervis! It was the hardest thing I ever had to do!" You cried as more guilt driven tears began glowing. You had no choice, you couldnât find a job pertaining to your field, nor find a part time job that could afford you a room and board in Gotham.Â
He tried to shush you, bringing his hands up to run your shoulders and gently rock you back and forth. "Darling, darling, please it's all right. You're here now! You were there for me when I needed you most!"Â
You gulped down a breath. "B-But I couldn'tâŚI didn't-"Â
"No one could have, if anything I'mâŚI'm glad you weren't here for all of that."Â
Jervis brought himself up from off his haunches to embrace you. You rested your head on his shoulder and wrapped your arms around his neck.Â
After a moment filled with your soft whimpers. You tightened your grip on him as his hand rubbed your back up and down.Â
"I meant what I saidâŚ" You croaked in his ear. "I-I do care about you Jervis, I want to help you and be here for you."Â
He smiled warmly. "I know you didâŚI must admit it's very rare to see someone defending me.." he pulled away from the embrace to look at you.Â
"But I couldn't imagine a better person to have in my corner." He brought his hand up to cup the side of your face and you happily clasped it with your own hand.Â
"I'm not going anywhereâŚdespite Batman's adviceâŚ" You muttered in disapproval.Â
"I know, and I assure youâŚit won't be in vain. I'll do whatever it takes."
You smiled softly. You closed your eyes as you leaned your head into his hand. Relieved in the peace that wafted over the hostile air in the room when Batman was there.Â
You knew what Jervis was capable of, but you were even more aware of his potential to be a better person.Â
You opened your eyes slowly too look into his bright eyes that crinkled from his own smile.Â
Then you noticed something was slightly off. "Jervy?"Â
Jervis giggled, adoring the nickname. "Yes, my dear?"Â
"Where's your hat?"Â
His eyes widened. Instinctively his hands reached up to his head only to notice what you said was true. He recalled having it in his hand when he arrived. Had he truly set it down somewhere? In his worrisome state for your safety?
"Oh, umâŚI brought it with meâŚwhere?âÂ
The both of you looked frantically about the room.Â
âHere it is!â You opened the door from your room and saw itâŚsurprisingly on the floor.Â
You picked it up gently and softly brushed off some dust from the hardwood floor. âIâm surprised you werenât wearing it.âÂ
You handed the hat back to Jervis, but he hesitated.Â
âDo-do you think I should? I-I mean wear it that isâŚâÂ
Your eyes widened. Something really was stirring in his mind if he doubted putting his hat back on. If anyone knew anything about Jervis it was just how precious his hat was to him.Â
You glanced down at the headgear and back to Jervis. He was swaying side to side with his head hung low, he stared at the ground. Â
You walked over to him, lifted his chin up by the tips of your fingers, and gently placed the top hat on his head.Â
âHereâs some even better adviceâŚJust because youâre changing doesnât mean your wardrobe has to.â You giggled. âBesides, I absolutely adore your hatsâŚthey make you look that much more handsome.âÂ
Jervis couldnât contain his giddy smile anymore as he chuckled softly. He did feel better with it on, or perhaps he just felt better overall in your presence.Â
Who needs good advice from someone who doesnât know you? When you have someone that knows so much and cares so much more instead.
