As you all probably know, Bo now has 0 posts on his Instagram account, and the countdown was nothing but a glitch in the system. Oh well.

But fear not, I bring you NEW Bo-related content in the form of a long-awaited interview with the Lego Bo master himself, James Cawood!

If you've seen Bezos I or Goodbye Bo in toy brick form on YouTube, then you've definitely seen his work. And yes, this is the fifth of my five favorite Inside-focused videos online in 2022 (which you can read about here).

In the interview, James and I chat about his fascinating career as a YouTuber creator—he started uploading videos when he was under 10 years old!—and his current work as a South African/UK filmmaker.

throwing thoughts to the wall here. I've been pondering a lot about Beatrice's gown specifically in that Outside of the meta world it seems to also represent Kinzo's very specific ideas of who/what Beatrice is. spoilers for the entirety of Umineko below the cut:

for one, I'm pretty sure it has the Ushiromiya one winged eagle on it ? which implies that Beatrice Castiglioni didn't own it originally. maybe it was tailored and made for her, or maybe she never even saw it in her lifetime. but regardless it is supposed to represent her, despite the fact that she met Kinzo in very simplistic clothing that does not bear Any similarities with the expensive and intricately embroidered fabric of the gown. a human woman has been raised to the level of The Golden Witch and thus is clothed accordingly

this grows more obvious with Kuwadorian Beatrice, who was raised and isolated to fill the role of her mother. she was given Beatrice's name and told all her life she was a reincarnation, and the dress was to honour the woman in question. but again, Kinzo has made her wear that gown. his view of Castiglioni, as an impossibly powerful witch who brought him back to life, defines his daughter's life and never challenged. ergo becoming the one surviving account of what Castiglioni was like. she wears that heavy, warm and ridiculously fancy gown on a regular basis—after all, Rosa didn't find her on a particularly special day. the ruffles on the skirt resemble the curtains of a stage; Beatrice is made to act as an exaggerated memory of her own mother.

then, there's Sayo. in her interpretation of Beatrice she already had an outfit—one that she wears when she's acting as her on the gameboard. one that she probably bought/arranged herself and takes great joy in wearing. however, when she solves the epitaph, her self expression is tainted and written over. like before, Sayo is made to wear the dress her mother wore. for what ? for Kinzo ! Genji, Kumasawa, and Nanjo made her wear that dress, the dress that contains Kinzo's warped perception of Castiglioni, just so Kinzo's redemption can come to fruition !

all they thought about was Kinzo and HIS guilt and HIS redemption and HIS sins and HIM and HIM and HIM. and they never took Sayo into account beyond how she would be Kinzo's successor, how to fit her into the gown and wig, how she could give Kinzo peace of mind in his final moments. and NO ONE, during the long process of getting her into the layers of this dress, putting the wig on her, making her wear blue contacts to emphasise this faint resemblance, EVER thought about how learning about her heritage might negatively affect Sayo.

I think it says something that she doesn't seem to wear this gown ever again on the gameboard. Sayo spent the years after what had been done to her picking her autonomy back up by any means necessary, so of course she goes for the outfit she chose herself, instead of the physical embodiment of the role she was pressured to play in.

My precure color opinions because why not. Don't read if you think you'll be upset reading different opinions, i just wanna put this out there haha😭:

Summer is white, let her be white (this is the one i'm the most passionate about). I didn't even KNOW there was a debate on this until this year, what in the world. None of that rainbow or pink nonsense. I don't even know why she would be classified as rainbow officially. Especially when the color they TRY to force her into is pink (for example saying today's color is pink before the outro). I heard she was created to be white but i don't know the source of that so that might be wrong

i agree with Finale being golden, she gets to be golden as a treat <3. She is not purple, y'all are just mean, compare her to actual purple cures. A golden theme really suits her in my opinion, it's beautiful and elegant like her. There should be more golden cures that have some some golden accents imo :D

Parfait is green to me with rainbow sub-color, i KNOW it makes no sense and she is just a rainbow cure, but that's what she is in my brain somehow acejcdksvd

Cosmo is blue with rainbow sub-color, but SHOULD have been rainbow. Maybe with blue sub-color bc it Does with the team arrangement (also should have had her cat form in cure form but that's beside the point). I heard they WANTED to make her rainbow but weren't allowed?! Unsure about that too though

i haven't seen hugtto yet but ma cherie literally looks so pink acejcdjd. You're red? Whatever you say, girl, you can be anything you wanna be, who am i to tell you otherwise <3

Milky as green is fine, but i see why people want turquoise to just be its own category. I think her color shouldn't look different though, she looks great

similair for Lillian, except that i've seen some people giving her a wonderful light green and she would look gorgeous!

Nyammy can be a blue cure if she wants <3. Especially next to Lillian, it's obvious how white is their base color and they define themselves via the accents. But also she is literally the whitest cure ever made, let alone the whitest blue cure wcejev

i actually prefer when cures look kinda colorful and they AREN'T monotone. The main color is really more about the vibe in my opinion, like with Finale and Nyammy haha!

I watched the Mary Had A Little Lamb ep for the first time in aaages and oh no you guys are right about Dorothy. :( Rose mentions natural birthing classes and Dorothy says she wishes she'd known about that stuff and says all she did was scream at Stan never to touch her again and call him every name in the book, then when Rose asks if it was a rough labor she says it was a rough /conception/. Ugh. I like this episode because it sorta let's Dorothy use her experiences for good to help a kid but that just made me sad.

Ohh shit you're right anon!! I hadn't even really noticed that comment there before but wow, they really didn't even try to sugar-coat it in that scene. It's right there! The way Dorothy talks about that night with Stanley differs so much in her various accounts.

"It was over before I knew we were doing anything" vs calling him every name in the book, yelling at him never to touch her again & "it was rough conception" really paint different pictures, and the way Dorothy talks about it seems to be directly proportionate to the type of conversation they're having (and the mood they're all in). This was a serious conversation, prompted by a very serious occurrence, so there was room to be honest. Whereas most of the time, when Dorothy's first night with Stan is mentioned, it's around cheesecake and the mood is a lot lighter than it was in that scene — and she seems to adjust the tone and contents of her retelling of the event accordingly.

Which- I mean, we all knows Dorothy feels safe around the Girls, but she's very clearly safeguarding that story from them — which speaks volumes about how traumatic it must've been.

But yes!! You're so right about that episode: I love that Dorothy got to use her own experience for good :) I've always been a little disappointed by how little attention they seem to put towards how it all impacts Dorothy (I mean, seeing a young girl go through what was a very formative — and first and foremost: traumatic — experience that set the course for literally the rest of Dorothy's life, must've been very hard!) but I guess there wasn't much time for that. And it fits Dorothy's character in a way, to put the focus on how she can put those past experiences to use, rather than on how they impact her emotionally.

playin around practicing a bluey style with some of my and my hubby's OCs, none of which are actually dogs and two of which aren't anything resembling human it's fun to work with these limitations ^^

the downside of watching movies with me (besides the fact that i will talk through it sometimes) is that i will fucking MEOW whenever a character that i simp for comes on screen.

i mention this because i've done just that when i was watching the 2 hellboy movies with some friends to the point i was put in horny jail.

got the badges for gone fission evp 400 + evp 600 yesterday! .52 gal, l-3 nozzlenose, dread wringer, and squiffer make for quite the synergistic team!

my peak was EVP 810 (appx 300-310% HL). my high score of 151 eggs was obtained somewhere in evp 300...? i'm pretty satisfied with how it went, even if i didn't get HLM or 9s.

some thoughts/reflections on good freelancing teams/traits to develop when trying to rank up in evp under the cut:

i think grinding this rotation was pretty fun- all of the weapons have excellent mobility and i think they cover for each other really well! the l-3 was not my favorite weapon going into it but i think i really enjoyed the accuracy and mobility of it, so it's a bit more favorable for me now :)

i ended up reaching a skill wall in EVP 760-780 where i could not get past wave 2 or 3 (usually for quota related reasons, the quota is BRUTAL! we'd miss it by like 4-5 ish... ofc this partially relates to how well bosses are handled).

the grind for evp was a mix of freelance and grouping up (freelance for 230 -> 440s, grouping up for 440 - 750~, and then testing myself in freelance for that last bit).

i enjoyed the bits of freelance i did, and from my playtime i think these were some of the key traits/practices that indicate "good salmon run skills" to me:

players that know their weapons role(s) and target the appropriate salmonid (but also being willing to break that when priority targets haven't been taken care of)

knowing when a teammate needs help (with a boss or being revived) or when the teammate has a situation under control (e.g. someone's already on the fishstick, you can do something else)

proactive use of specials when problem targets appear, preferably with no overlap (e.g. tri-strike and inkjet activated on the same flyfishes is not the best)

using specials like booyah bomb, triple splashdown, and reefslider to clear basket area in the last 30 seconds to help eggs get in (especially important past evp 600)

teams that paint the walls first thing (especially whoever had the dread wringer). all interior walls for fission can be painted within the first 10 seconds imo

forwarding eggs closer to the basket after splatting static bosses (throwing one egg, and then swimming up with one)

players with good judgment; knowing when to lure (mostly for initial boss spawns), and knowing when to leave the big shot cannon

being able to figure out which directions snatchers come from and what eggs they can help you collect

i think these practices all stem from having good awareness and being able to collect information about the shift. it helps with making snappy quick-fire decisions, and it just gets more important the higher up in EVP you go. camera positioning/control is essential for this (you can't figure out where bosses/teammates are if your back is turned to them).

for me, every 7-10 seconds, i like to rotate my camera around to the opposite side of where i'm currently looking to make sure there isn't any bosses i'm missing. i'm hardly in one place longer than 5-10 seconds and i try to always be on the move. the spawn direction where salmonids come from are always changing, so it's essential to rotate around the map proactively rather than reactively. i think this also helps a lot with shotcalling in groups too (since you can be someone else's pair of eyes).

other than boss spawns/teammate locations (for revives), i think it's also important to notice when certain bosses haven't been taken care of for prolonged periods of time too, so that a special can be popped. to me it's usually a sign that someone whose ill equipped to deal with that boss has been forced to deal with them because the people with the "right" weapon are focused on something else... (no fault to them, of course, everyone has different priorities and you can't always communicate clearly in freelance)

in situations where squiffers were chased by a pack of scrappers, perhaps a booyah bomb or splashdown can be popped to help if you don't have the time to stun and splat them manually. maybe the fish sticks were left unattended by the shooters, so a triple inkstrike or a crab/inkjet shot can help clear them out.

awareness also extends to meeting quota, which imo involves paying attention to the timer + where eggs are located. i find that it's nice to check in with the timer/quota at 50s and 30s respectively so that you can start forwarding eggs closer to basket. and when everyone's going crazy about quota not being met i try to make sure i'm not overstepping anyone else's egg pile so that no one goes "wait no thats the egg that i wanted to pick up fuck i have to go back and get a different one."

i think this is why sometimes playing in groups is easier. if you have more sets of eyes that you can communicate with, it alleviates the need to have awareness of "everything" (provided that you can comms effectively). someone can be attuned to different things (e.g. my friend always tells us where snatchers come from and if they're good, i'm personally attuned to where people need to be revived, etc.). you also know what specials you have access to, unlike in freelance where you're not sure what others have until they use them.

the other part of completing shifts successfully (to me) is being mechanically sound with your movement, mostly in regards to how you use the terrain (walls) to get around the map and escape situations. the more you play a map the more you'll figure out how you can move around on it.

some examples, using the location callouts from salmonrun.ink: there were a few times i'd go on the harbor but i could escape any salmonids in the bridge area by climbing the walls there and squidrolling out as needed. sometimes on high tide i would swim from the perch to the left plat.

sub-strafing is also good to know too, especially when you want to rapidly collect the basket eggs at the end. i still need to integrate it into other parts of my gameplay, but it's helpful!

uh. this was way longer than intended because i have WAY too many thoughts about salmon run. TL;DR: The key to succeeding your shifts is having good awareness which comes from good information collecting practices, and having the mechanical skill to act on that awareness without hesitation.

there's definitely a lot that goes on in sensory overload the game™, so it will take time to build these muscles and reaction times. i think while at every rank of salmon run you may face a wall of "i'm overwhelmed by the bosses," the exact fix needed to get past it usually varies, so it's important to figure out what information you were missing or what actions you could've taken (more efficient movement or special usage, usually).

or if you're struggling with quota, try to practice forwarding eggs or take a look where snatchers come from (even if people splat them, it's still a good practice 2 develop for later evp. source: i don't fucking do it and it's biting me in the ass)

and most importantly, recognize when you're in the midst of a loss streak/skill wall, so that you can take a break and focus on other things that energize you! even if there's a certain goal you want to meet, grinding for higher levels of EVP and getting better at the game can be a very exhausting process. you can always come back to the grind later, whether if it's after a 30 minute break, or just a different rotation!

Not going to lie, a lot of it has to do with the Fireflies. (But you know that, I have a uhhh problem.)

When I’m looking for either voice inspirations for characters or dance routines that they would totally do, I end up with really cool songs that I love for them.

I also have an entire playlist on Spotify for their ‘After Dark’ show. Ngl.

One of my favorites recently was a voice inspiration for Kalyan to the song I Like It Loud by Cash Cash! Thinking up either just specific dance moves or ACTUAL routines for this one is incredibly fun. That’s one of those performances that gets the crowd going when they’re all out in the field! Kalyan is so personable (gets his gusto from his uncle Hakon, haha), and that’s just such a fun song to dance around to.

A recent one that lives in my head rent free is a voice claim for Melia: Téir Abhaile Riú! This is more of a performance in the clan itself, because I can’t help but have these warm fuzzy feelings for their interactions with the Clan in the Mists. As much as they travel, that’s still their home. And so, that would be a dance for around the campfires they have at night. All the main members singing and dancing for the clan, and...oof. Gosh, it makes me happy!

There are definitely others for specific situations like The Endless Night, which I still literally think about all the time. ESPECIALLY for fight scenes, which are always a blast.

disclaimer: i am absolutely not in the business of forcing ships and/or dynamics on any writing partner, i simply adore and cannot help but imagine many scenarios and dynamics w/other canon characters for my muses, and love having these dynamics be present/mentioned/relevant in threads with other characters. if i imagine x character and y character having a certain dynamic, i will often have x character interact with z character w/that dynamic in mind. BUT, i will never have x character interact with y character w/that dynamic in mind w/o discussing it first!!

anyway, i'm most writing this for myself as reference/writing it out helps me think but i'm tossing it under readmore to spare the dash :)

anyway, my emma and rum slept together at least once immediately following graham's death. after wrapping up paramedics emma felt she had 2 choices, get absolutely shit faced and drown her sorrows in a bottle of whiskey, or put that energy into an activity that wouldn't leave her with a massive fucking hangover. she went w/the latter and gold just seemed like the kind of guy who wouldn't say no and be all 'you look upset are u sure u want this' lmfao and she was right. did it give him pause? maybe a little but not enough to turn her down.

things naturally got a little tense after the events of desperate souls and, while she was naturally and rightfully upset about it, rum was super quick to knock her off her high horse and that she used him first. the circumstances were wildly different, yes, and emma 100% told him those things were not the same. but it also did make her feel a little shitty bc she did in fact use him. sure, he wasn't mad about it, he enjoyed himself but also she did get what she wanted out of the whole fire thing as well and bc emma is like a legitimate good person, she still felt bad when he pointed it out even, again, knowing those two things are really fucking different.

but she does in the end conceded that she 100% used him bc that's a thing she's used to doing, using casual sex to distract herself from stuff. so she apologizes and he does in his own way lmao and after they both just sort of settle into this relationship of mutual understanding w/one another that is usually amicable but sometimes a little bit of 'mutually assured destruction' bc he knows she doesn't want anyone to find out but also neither does he tbqh. plus she could make his life really fucking irritating if she wanted to and he knows that.

and in either case, for at least a good while (possibly the whole time) there's always this touch of unspoken tension/chemistry between them and sometimes it may be alluded to in threads w/other characters.

omg i just learned that for the mlp fim movie they used a remix of the golden girl's theme song. which. amazing choice. yes the golden girls is the definitive friendship series to the point i often thought to myself: friendship is magic would be an amazing subheading for the golden girls as well. and others thought that too and this is. just wonderful

what are you currently watching / plan on watching next?

Hey! Actually not a ton of shows right now, anon! I'm watching the new season of Black Mirror (I've watched the first two eps so far) and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and I'm still getting through Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. I've also just started a new Australian show, Deadloch, which is a comedy + satire of small town detective dramas which is pretty funny but also giving me intense cultural cringe, so there's that, haha.

I've been watching more movies than TV again, but I think I'm going to check out Silo and The Crowded Room on Apple+ this week. I've heard very good things about the former, and very mixed things about the latter, but I like the cast of both a lot so I'm keen to give them a try.

Otherwise, I actually have quite a few shows I need to catch up on still, namely the last seasons of Never Have I Ever, Mythic Quest, The Great, and Barry, and the big other ones to start on my list are Beef, Daisy Jones and the Six and The Last of Us, although I've been dragging my feet on all of them to be honest.

So yes! Definitely taking recommendations if you have any!
