#HOENIR Hoenir (Old Norse Hœnir, pronounced “HIGH-neer”) is an obscure Aesir god. Mentions of Hoenir in Old Norse literature are highly confused and contradictory. The Völuspá, one of the poems in thePoetic Edda, has Hoenir playing a role in the creation of the first humans, Ask and Embla. There, he appears in a triad comprised of himself, Odin, and Loðurr, a god about whom we know as little as we know about Hoenir. These three gods each bestow a particular quality or faculty upon Ask and Embla. Hoenir’s gift is óðr,[1] an Old Norse word that has no true English equivalent, but was held to be the source of poetic inspiration, intellectual insight, the intoxication of spiritual ecstasy, and the frenzy of the battlefield. Óðr is the root of Odin’s name (Old Norse Óðinn, “Master of Óðr“), so if anyone should be dispensing óðr, it should be Odin. In fact, another Old Norse story, that of theMead of Poetry, relates that óðr in humans comes directly from Odin. It’s difficult, therefore, to see Hoenir in this passage as anything but an only nominally distinct extension of Odin himself. Another stanza from the Völuspá depicts Hoenir performing divination for the restored gods after Ragnarok has passed.[2] In other stories, Hoenir is mentioned in passing as the travel companion of Odin and Loki.[3] Kennings describe him as “swift god,” “long-legged,” and “mud- or marsh-king” (aurkonungr, the first element of which is difficult to interpret). He was also called “the most fearful of all the gods.”

Then the aftertaste of a slight but not overpowering boozeyness with a hint of nature. I've got a really hectic couple of days coming up, so this won't be the longest post! Tomorrow (Thursday 27th November) I will be at The Hillcrest Country Market in Newhaven for our Christmas event from 9:45 - 2pm. If you don't know it, The Hillcrest Centre is a treasure in Newhaven! On offer every week are delicious homemade cakes, pies, readymade curries, Jams, Eggs, knitted goods and crafts as well  as jewellery from me! 

Right after The Hilcrest I am heading to Brighton to set up my display at ArtForty7 Artists Open House. I will be leaving plenty of my new necklaces and gorgeous gold, silver and copper leaf earrings. So plenty of perfect Christmas gifts there! 

Finally on Friday I will be selling my jewellery at Meads Magic in Eastbourne. I took part in this Christmas market last year and it was a great event for all the family. It was really busy and I met lots of lovely customers. I couldn't feel my feet by the end of it, but it was still worth it!
