Just realized something I said in reblogging someone else's post. I LOVE the use of putting the audience in a character's shoes in knowledge and you know how we say that, especially in seasons 1 and 2, Byler seems more unrequited on Mike's end? Then in season 3, we start to see hints, albeit more subtle in relation to the other characters we just have a magnifying glass, that Will has feelings for him.

That's because we're in their POVs. Mike's love is unrequited when we're in Mike's. point of view. Will's is unrequited when we're in his. And they keep Mike's just deniable enough that you're still immersed in Will's unrequitedness once you get to it. And I think that's why we need the magnifying glass for him too. He's just more reserved as a character. So when we're in his point of view, the only reason we know his feelings is because he knows his feelings, not because he's showing them. It isn't even about their own feelings.

Will seems to reciprocate less in Mike's point of view and Mike seems to reciprocate less in Will's(suspension of disbelief, also influenced by Mike's pov coming first so it's more obvious to us ofc).

IT'S BECAUSE WE'RE IN THEIR SHOES. IT ALL LINES UP.

Also, did I ever tell you that I didn't ship Byler in season 2 because I felt like they were less equal of a relationship than Mike and El because of how much more Mike seemed to give in that regard? I didn't think of it romantically but....Yeah... I thought they were cute but to me it was very "Mike loves Will and Will appreciates that Mike loves him". Because that's kind of what it was. from Mike's perspective.

Edit: When I think about it this way too, it makes total sense for Mike to notice that he didn't call but neither did Will and that he ignored him but Will ignored him back. Similar to how we excused Will ignoring Mike because we know why he's doing it, Mike could overlook himself because "I know it's because I have feelings for him but why is he doing it?" and be hurt.

i love the conflicts between batman and superman in jl and jlu. i love batman so much. that guy is always fighting so hard for humanity, taking every precaution necessary, standing up to his friends and asserting his point of view as a regular human. as forcefully as necessary. stubborn but willing to admit when he was wrong. i love batman.
