So with everything that has transpired over the past week or so... America, and the World for that matter, have come to a point where we all need to better to understand each other's needs and wants in society. Bruce Lee said, so simply, "If every man helps his neighbor, no man would be without help." My dearest friends over at @identitycomicsstudio, @thefranchizelive, and @pengpengart, and I have had numerous conversations about the need for diversity in these comic and animation studios... And in the art pro world in general. Creators of color should be able to tell their stories, to reach other children, and adults of color. They need to know that a story about black or brown characters was written or created by black or brown artists and writers. It only makes sense. So we at #IdentityComicsStudio, for over 15 years, have ALWAYS created our own stories full of diversity telling the stories that we all want to see. My brother, @thefranchizelive posted about his character #hyperboy (go to Jerry's ig now!) and how we all... Especially black people, need a NEW hero in this world. Someone to share laughs, heartbreak and victories with! For my stories, I tend to draw from my experience of raising children... Particularly my girls. Women of color need to be seen as positive, strong figures as well! My character's name is Morgan. She embodies power, compassion, and the will to do whatever it takes, to do great things for her people. My mother and sister, two of the strongest black women you have ever met, shared those qualities with me. And I see them in my daughters now. Morgan represents them... And hopefully many other black and brown girls and women who exude those same traits! She started as a comic called 'Return of the Way'. Now we are looking to bring her to you as an animated series. Sorry I've been away from y'all for a second! My next entry into the @identitycomicsstudio #blackhistorymonth challenge is none other than BROTHERMAN! Now this comic that came out in '91-' 92 changed my life! First of all... I just have to say...BEFORE this book even hit the shelves, I was drawing a comic character named' BLACKMAN!' No joke! You can ask my homies from back in the day (@joe_jaro, @mtshelz) Second of all... This book changed my whole outlook on WHO or WHAT we as black kids, could tell stories about. Truly inspired me to pursue my own storytelling... Naryb-K (nay-rib-KAY) A former Resistance Craftsman and mechanic on the Ajan Kloss base. Folks always teased him about being force sensitive. But he always dismissed it, thinking 'it was the way' all beings should be. Once news was out, that there was an organized plot to overtake the resurrected Palpatine and Final Order, on Exegol, Naryb-K was struck with an unexplained sense of duty and urgency to help. With his skills as a Craftsman, Naryb-K, built his own first of a kind, dueling, nun chuck style, sabers. Knowing of his force sensitivity, General Organa asked Naryb-K to construct a safe keeping place for her last 3 Kyber crystals. Naively he did so, never thinking he'd ever have any use for them. But for this day, he would be one with the force and choose the last green crystal. Splitting it in two, forging his very own light sabers. The battle was fierce. But the people won. And Naryb-K was one of many that survived. Now his story, and others will continue on, paving a new destiny of Hope.
