Voice Acting Demo | From "The Fantasticks" |Words by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmitt So, I just wanted to say "thank you" to those who listened to/liked the poem that I posted yesterday! I tagged it, but was expecting no likes and more of an "eye roll and a downward scroll" (kind of like a short drop and a sudden stop), from all who came across it. I love to recite and share my work with the world, but often feel like a Vogon, if you catch my drift... So, again, thank you for listening and liking- it meant the world to me!!! I am a novice poet and have struggled to gain visibility for many years. I guess that struggle never really ends. I am also an actress, performing and writing kind of go hand-in-hand for me. This seems like a fun platform for sharing my work among other poems and perhaps even doing some voice acting. So, I just might make this a thing as time presents itself. (Yay!) This monologue and actually, the musical as a whole, has been an incredible source of inspiration for me for many, many years. It was the first play that I ever performed in and came into my life around the time that writing did. The script/libretto is stunning- something that any lover of words can appreciate and aspire to channel into their own work. I apologize for the quality and my inexperience in voice acting. This is really just me having fun! :-D

Description: 36 years strong! Tri-Valley Repertory Theatre has been an East Bay favorite of mine since their Pleasanton Playhouse days. Friday night at the 21,444th NYC performance of Fantasticks. Transported somehow to days of old, high school in Manila mostly, where I'd spent countless days in a just-as intimate 131-seater theater and group Dulaang Sibol, led by a then young 60-something moderator and now dear friend Mr. Pagsi. Putting up productions, Sinta!, a Filipino translation of the Fantasticks included. Magical moments in the evening, perhaps my favorite, was at curtain call when corner audience left, a 70- or 80- year old couple was wiping off some tears. Of joy? Of hurt? Perhaps both. Howdy to all you Hump Day hooligans! The middle of the week means it's time to highlight another theatre company's upcoming season. This week's group is a family theatre company to me. The few shows I have done there have been a comedic blast, and I look forward to some day, in the future, when I can audition for them again. Not to mention, I am an enthused audience member when not on their stage. This week I am elated to highlight the 2018/2019 season at Coastal Repertory Theatre!

Description: Ever since I saw their production of Our Town and of Urinetown, I have been a consummate supporter of all things Coastal Rep! Since those early audience experiences, I have enjoyed seeing their productions of Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Clean House, Coney Island Christmas, and Pride and Prejudice, among others. I have had the pleasure of treading their boards in Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some), Lend Me a Tenor, and fulfilling one of my bucket list roles, earlier this year, in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Not just a coastal destination for superb theatre, Coastal Rep has a conservatory youth program to help train, educate, and give experience to the current and next generation of youngsters who are hungry for the arts. My Year of the Book - Day 17: In the months between my college Freshman and Sophomore years, I was cast as Mortimer (AKA The Man Who Dies) in a summer production of “The Fantasticks” in the Napa Valley. As a recent Napa High grad, it was a homecoming for me, but the show was also a “going away” for the show’s director. Andy Cottle (who was also terrific as one of the fathers in the show) had been music director at Napa’s Vintage High School, but he’d recently accepted a university job in the Midwest, making the show his Napa swan song. In a reversal of my usual college show experience, we rehearsed for only two weeks, then began our scheduled 8-week run. The small, hand-picked cast and orchestra (piano & harp) were a delight to work with, and the intimate venue (no longer extant) in touristy Yountville became my home away from home that summer. We received a very gracious (albeit well-deserved) review following our preview, and business remained solid enough for us to get extended for an additional two weeks, the maximum many of us could do given our various Fall committments. But beyond the professional experience (yes...I was actually paid every week!) I gained doing a “daily grind” gig at 19, I quickly fell in love with the show itself. A few years later, I was able to see it at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in New York City, where it was first staged in 1960 with Jerry Orbach as El Gallo, the narrator. One other thing of note came out of this...for the next several years, I used what is commonly known as “The Glen Speech” (one of many longish El Gallo speeches) as one of my “go-to” audition monologues, and still launch into it with very little encouragement.
