A SPOILER FREE REVIEW OF "THE DEVIL AND THE DARK WATER" BY STUART TURTON😀😀 Devil begs to be let inside while you r reading this "at sea" mystery saga set in 1600s involving the age old question "is there a devil amongst us?" Samuel Pipps, the greatest detective, now a prisoner,is being transported to Amsterdam ;his crimes yet to be proved. The ship "Saardam" chosen for this also houses one of most powerful men of the kingdom, governor general Jan Haan, his wife Sara Wessel, daughter Lia;Arent Hyes, who has sworn loyalty to Pipps and an assortment of characters ranging from a priest to a seductress. The voyage seems doomed from start since it's commence is marred by a "mute" leper shouting curses who then burns to his death.😰😵 Strange sightings of this dead leper along with myriad apocalyptic incidences including a devilish storm and a ghost ship chasing Saardam made me finish this book in one day...😁😍 What I liked 👹+🌊+🛳️+🗡️+🕵️=💯 What I wish were different News of a sequel😶 #trappedinabookworldreviews ,#bookrecommendations ,#lovereadings ,#fiction ,#stuartturton,#thedevilandthedarkwater ,#bookstagram ,#mysterybooks ,#seamystery ,#detectivestory ,#bookreview ,#nonspoilerbookreview ,#bibliophile https://www.instagram.com/p/CPNWJCWD6PZ/?utm_medium=tumblr

No, Monkey. You're not the devil the book is about. I kid, I kid! Finished Stuart Turton's The Devil and The Dark Water & enjoyed it. It wasn't revolutionary or as mind boggling as his previous book, but I still had a good time with it. Told from multiple points of view, with a particular focus on Arent, a mercenary protecting his friend, a famous detective, who was arrested for an unknown crime & is jailed bon a ship headed to Amsterdam. It isn't long before strange things start to happen on the ship & people start dying. From there, it becomes a whodunnit, whydunnit, & who's next. I do wish Turton was a bit subtler with the themes & the ending was probably the weakest part of the book, like how it was in Evelyn Hardcastle. I kinda predicted part of the end. But, all in all, a fun book that managed to keep my mind off the craziness that is 2020. * Have you read it? What did you think? * #funaekreads #funaekbooks #instabooks #instareads #pugsandbooks #bookreview #thedevilandthedarkwater #stuartturton https://www.instagram.com/p/CGn61UBgBoU/?igshid=71ghxdy2izzz

Hello everyone, Happy New Year 🥳 Let’s hope for a better 2021 for each one of us. Today I’m sharing the next five physical books on my TBR. I’ll also be reading some Kindle books and listening to audiobooks but I’ll update you on these as and when.⁣ ⁣ 🔥 Bonfire by Krysten Ritter - highly recommended by @lovedreadingthis and @keeperofpages this is a book I’ve bumped up my list. Kerrie was also kind enough to send me this copy. This is a twisty, suspenseful tale that I’m really looking forward to. ⁣ ⁣ 🐇 The Looking Glass House by Vanessa Tait - this is written by the great-granddaughter of the girl who inspired Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. It hasn’t got brilliant reviews on Goodreads but I’m still going to give it a chance! ⁣ ⁣ ⚓️ The Devil And The Dark Water by Stuart Turton - I’m so excited to read this! I’m sure it’s going to be as complex and fascinating as the author’s previous novel and I look forward to getting stuck into an interesting mystery.⁣ ⁣ ❤️The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr - this debut novel was gifted to me by @quercusbooks (thank you so much to them) and tells the story of the love between two enslaved men on a Deep South plantation. I’ve got a really good feeling about this one. Could it be my first five star read of 2021?⁣ ⁣ 😱 Under The Skin - Michel Faber - this author is one of my favourites and I can’t believe I’ve left it this long to read this book! I’ve managed to successfully avoid all spoilers up until now so please don’t tell me if you know anything about the story 😅 Can’t wait to find out what everyone who has read this book is talking about. ⁣ ⁣ Have you read or want to read any of the books on this little pile? I’d love to know. Let’s have a chat in the comments! 🤗😘⁣ ⁣ #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookworm #tbrpile #bonfire #krystenritter #thelookingglasshouse #vanessatait #thedevilandthedarkwater #stuartturton #theprophets #robertjonesjr #undertheskin #michelfaber https://www.instagram.com/p/CJgnpOQgjUy/?igshid=1km288dpdrej9

The Devil And The Dark Water is Stuart Turton’s much anticipated, second novel after the smash hit that was The Seven Deaths Of Evelyn Hardcastle. Whilst I really loved Seven Deaths, I did approach this one with some trepidation as the plot of his debut was so complex and intricate. I didn’t know if I would have to make sure I was in a particular headspace to be able to concentrate or if I would need to pull out my sticky notes just to keep track of everything! 😅⁣ ⁣ Interestingly, I didn’t get muddled in the slightest with this latest offering from Turton. That’s not to say it’s a simple read, the plot is still highly convoluted with some fantastic twists and turns. However, at the heart of it, this book is a solid and wonderfully exciting mystery with a hint of the supernatural set on a ship at sea. ⁣ ⁣ As with all my favourite books, there is a host of characters to entertain and delight and I was over the moon to discover strong female leads that had been written so perfectly. Sara Wessel in particular, the Governor General’s wife was a pleasure to read and I loved how she developed as the story progressed. ⁣ ⁣ We also have a prisoner and his bodyguard, the Governor’s mistress, the squabbling crew of sailors and soldiers, a leper who foretells death and ruin if the ship sails and Old Tom, a supposed demon causing havoc as they continue through the journey. ⁣ ⁣ That’s just for starters. There’s so much to love about this book. The nods to Holmes and Watson, the pace, the drama, the terror and the obvious thought, care and deliberation that has gone into every word, every scene and every character in this novel. A fabulous read that I highly recommend. ⁣ ⁣ The full shebang - five out of five stars⁣ ⁣ 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 #bookstagram #booklover #bookreview #bookworm #bookfiend #lovereadingbooks❤️📚 #thedevilandthedarkwater #stuartturton #fivestarreads #beautifulbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CK15E1rgp_p/?igshid=awuquac3145j

Hello everyone! Hope you’re having or have had a lovely Sunday. Since my hiatus from IG I’ve managed to acquire quite a few books 🙊 so here are a few of the hardbacks I couldn’t resist. I’m reading The Devil And The Dark Water soon as you’ll have seen from my TBR post a couple of days ago and I’m currently in the middle of a re-read of Half Of A Yellow Sun. As for the Atwood, I’m sure I’ll fit it in at some point 😂 Just as a side note, the Adichie was purchased for me as a gift before I was aware that she has said some problematic things. 😔 Have you read any of these books? I’d love to know your opinions. Let’s have a chat in the comments below! #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookworm #bookhaul #hardbackbooks #hardbackhaul #thedevilandthedarkwater #stuartturton #dearly #margaretatwood #inlovewithhardbacks https://www.instagram.com/p/CJmLqOvAcFi/?igshid=1152exrhkqxym

Hello everyone and happy #stacksaturday ! Today I’m sharing my #bigbookstack which I’ve seen a few friends share on here. The books are:⁣ ⁣ Sleeping Beauties - Stephen and Owen King⁣ The Luminaries- Eleanor Catton⁣ The Mirror And The Light - Hilary Mantel⁣ The Kingdom - Jo Nesbo ⁣ Hame - Annalena McAfee⁣ The Sport Of Kings - C.E. Morgan ⁣ The Starless Sea - Erin Morgenstern⁣ The Devil And The Dark Water - Stuart Turton⁣ ⁣ I’m reading The Devil And The Dark Water right now and absolutely loving it and I’m hoping to read Sleeping Beauties and The Mirror And The Light soon. ⁣ ⁣ I’ve got a few large paperbacks on my shelves too but I thought I’d show my hardbacks first as they look so gorgeous. The Luminaries in particular has been on my shelves for a LONG time and I don’t know why, but I’m so intimidated by it! Can anyone reassure me of how wonderful it is and persuade me to read it? 😂⁣ ⁣ It would be great to know your thoughts about big books. Love them or loathe them? Also if you’ve read any of these books let me know your thoughts. Let’s have a chat in the comments! ⁣ ⁣ Hope you all have a lovely weekend 🤗😘⁣ ⁣ #bookstagram #booklover #bookstagrammer #ilikebigbooksandicannotlie #stephenking #owenking #sleepingbeauties #theluminaries #eleanorcatton #themirrorandthelight #hilarymantel #thekingdom #jonesbo #hame #annalenamcafee #thesportofkings #cemorgan #thestarlesssea #erinmorgenstern #thedevilandthedarkwater #stuartturton #bigbooksstackchallenge https://www.instagram.com/p/CKZbobhALSY/?igshid=6osgcfhqacp8
