September Reading Wrap-up
Once again I am taking advantage of the fancy #Storygraph wrap-up graphics! So, here's my #reading stats for September, for a peak at reviews to come or those already live. #readingupdate #readingwrapup #septemberreadingwrapup
Once again I am taking advantage of the fancy Storygraph wrap-up graphics! So, here’s my reading stats for September, for a peek at reviews to come or those already live. September’s favourite: While The Luminaries and A Fate Inked in Blood are strong contenders, I really did love Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood, so it’ll have to win! Through September I honestly didn’t read that much, life has…

Reading Adventures!
I finished Ada's Algorithm by James Essenger. I enjoyed the book a lot, and inadvertedly learned more about computers and their function than I expected. I felt like the author overstated his case a little, as Ada in fact only created a program for Babbage's machine, not one that can be used for any computer. Also, he states that there is not a direct line between Babbage's machine and the first modern computer, which confused me. I thought the whole point of the book was that Ada wrote a computer program for the first computer?
Anyway, I did enjoy the book, although the long chapters with a deep dive into Lord Byron's entire childhood and life was unnecessary. The author also states repeatedly that Lord Byron cast a long shadow over Ada's life, even though her mother left him when Ada was a year old. The author never flushes out this statement and leaves the reader confused as to what he meant.

Another month already?? Here's my September reads! Here's to a spooky month 👻
Ratings and reviews under the cut c:
Happy reading <3
Three of Hearts by Lillian Lark - 2.75/5. It was a decent story. Great smut. As always, the pregnancy wasn't my favorite thing but I knew it would happen so it wasnt terrible. I did like the relationship dynamic. It felt a little rushed to me.
Damned by Chuck Palahniuk - 3.5/5. It's an interesting story. I can honestly say I've never read anything like it. It made me giggle on multiple occasions and while I was hesitant at first at the thought of a 13 year old narrator, she quickly grew on me. The world is cleverly marked out and interesting to explore. I never saw the twist coming either. It's a very lighthearted, quick, easy read.
The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie - 3/5. Awesome twists and turns. Never expected the ending. Did drag on at times.
Her Soul to Take by Harley Laroux - 5/5. So. Amazing. I was completely enamored from start to finish. The world was amazingly built. The creatures so dark and mysterious. The romance was immaculately progressed. And the smut?? Oh my lord the smut. The holt grail. It was perfectly spaced with just the right amount and the scenes were unmatched. This is the perfect mixture of horror, thriller, and romance. I loved it.
I loved it.

The Laughing Corpse by Laurell K. Hamilton 4.75/5. Amazing sequel. Almost as good as the first but not quite. That’s the only reason it’s not 5 stars. I still loved the characters and the how the story unfolds. I always love that there’s never a dull moment. Onto the third!
Games We Play by Dana Isaly - 3/5. Seemed a bit childish at times?
Circus of the Damned by Laurell K. Hamilton - 3.5/5. This isn't my favorite book from the series so far but it was still just what I needed. It wasn't as action packed as some of the others nor was it as gripping but I still thoroughly enjoyed the read.
The Lunatic Cafe by Laurell K. Hamilton - 3/5. So it was good. It wasn't the best of the series so far but it still was still just as gripping and well written as the ones before it.
The Invitation by Roxy Sloane - 3/5. It was hot and all but he said Juicy when he plunged his fingers into her and I kinda just 😐

September Reads
Friday 3rd
Fall weather is settling in even when it is not quite fall.
I am enjoying the reading I have been doing this past week. Instead of reading the books as fast as possible because of a deadline, I am taking a nice leisurely pace with them, reading whenever I have a spare moment.
For this Friday Reads, I will be continuing with Salt Houses by Hala Alyan, and Molly of the Mall by Heidi L. M. Jacobs. Both are fascinating in their own way.
Two books I am thinking about starting this week:
1. On Such A Full Sea by Chang-Rae Lee
2. Actress by Anne Enright.
On Such a Full Sea is a literary dystopian novel, and Actress explores the life of an Irish theatre legend in Old Hollywood and on the East End stage. This may prove to be an interesting pairing this week.

I finished Apollo's Legacy by Roger Launius.
I really enjoyed this deep discussion into the long lasting effects on our culture that Apollo has had. In the last two chapters, I felt like he repeated himself a lot, but my speech teacher always did say that you should repeat your premise at least seven times in your speech 😆
I really liked it. 5 stars.

I’m usually taking a nap between 1-4 , working over night I must do this. I am a huge Eve Chase fan and have loved all the books I’ve read so far by her. I love the gothic feel of them. September was certainly a disappointing month in terms of literary intake! Between jumping around the country and competing with the Divisional shooting team in Ottawa, this left very little time and willpower to pick up a book most days. Regardless, I was able to read two really entertaining and insightful books during that time. Malcolm Gladwell’s Tipping Point speaks about how social phenomenons that will reach a moment of critical mass, a boiling point, or tipping point to which it changes everyday life. And Jon Ronson’s The Psychopath Test is an exploration into the condition of psychopathy, it’s symptoms, it’s social influences, and it processes of diagnosis and “treatment.” I’m back in the Annapolis Valley teaching on a junior leadership course, so I intend to enjoy the Fall weather, sights, and take in some more reading during down time 😊 #bookstagram #septemberreads #malcolmgladwell #thetippingpoint #jonronson #thepsychopathtest #annapolisvalley (at Maritime Express Cider Co Ltd) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3K0gyvpXeL/?igshid=sezjl1svc941
