the United States airdropped 38,000 meals into Gaza
some progress, I guess, but it’s not enough.
the airdrop on March 2, 2024, came two days after 100+ Palestinians were killed after Israeli forces opened fire on desperate, starving civilians in what was dubbed the “flour massacre.”
this is part of an US attempt to aid Palestinians as Gaza faces starvation. three US air force cargo planes dropped 38,000 meals — no water or medical supplies — in southwest Gaza. but cargo planes can’t carry as much as aid convoy trucks. and we’ve seen the tragedy that happened.
aid groups have criticized this plan, and they are absolutely right. they’ve said the focus should be forcing Israel to open up more ports and entryways into Gaza instead of airdropping because trucks can carry way more supplies, like I’ve mentioned.
there are also several drawbacks to airdropping supplies: it’s inefficient, expensive, and doesn’t provide enough aid. there are 1.5+ million refugees in Rafah. 38,000 meals can only provide for ~0.253% of the refugees. it’s not even 1%.
but the Gazans need everything they can get right now. airdrops, however inefficient they are, are essential for Gazans to survive.
support a ceasefire now.

lives ended in Gaza
look. look.
these people had their futures ahead of them. these people had nothing to deal with Hamas. these people just wanted to live and be happy. these people never asked for any of this.
and yet. they are dead from Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. and yet. people say they deserve to die. and yet, and yet, and yet.
when will the world realize this needs to stop?
ceasefire now. free Palestine.

the un overwhelmingly voted for a resolution supporting palestinian statehood.
it declared that palestine qualified for a full united nations member status, and the measure is going to move into the security council.
the united states is posed to reject the measure as it did in april. the us never cared about palestine from the very beginning. as the resolution is in the united nations, israel is bombing rafah, home to over a million refugees.
we’re so close. never stop talking about palestine.

the pope calls for a ceasefire in gaza, ceasefire talks resume in cairo.
happy easter to those who celebrate, by the way.
the pope, in his annual easter address, pope francis called for an immediate ceasefire, ensured access to humanitarian aid, and “‘the prompt release of the hostages seized on 7 october’” (in a strong).
this is part of the numerous conflicts the pope has addressed in his speech.
the death toll in gaza has surpassed 32,000, which thousands more still missing, presumably under the rubble. an israeli delegation is said to arrive in cairo, egypt, today for a ceasefire negotiation after a united nation security council’s resolution for a ceasefire in gaza finally passed.
hamas wants a permanent ceasefire and a “full withdrawal of israeli forces from gaza” (gaza truce talks), while israel says the war will not end until hamas is defeated. international communities have continued to pressure israel for a permanent ceasefire with hopes of letting humanitarian aid into gaza.
people are still suffering. i hope that everyone will continue to advocate for palestine even after a ceasefire is in place and the conflict stops.

governments are saying a ceasefire in Gaza will arrive soon. but Hamas and Israel are opposed to one. Hamas wants a permanent ceasefire and to have all troops leave the Gaza Strip while Israel insists it will have Hamas destroyed first.
I’m not saying Hamas is entirely good either, but in order to completely destroy the organization, how much more of Gaza will need to be destroyed to rubble? how many more civilians need to be killed? people are dying of starvation and malnutrition as the death toll reaches 30,000 (in reality, it’s probably already over since thousands are buried under the rubble), and yet, Israel won’t agree to a ceasefire until Hamas is destroyed.
to what extent will the West allow this genocide to continue before demanding a ceasefire?

in the midst of the genocide, please be careful of being antisemitic!
Israel does not stand for all of the world’s Jewish population; similarly, not all Jews stand for Israel. there are Jewish people that have spoken out against Israel’s genocide, and Israeli Jews have been jailed for not complying in the mandatory draft because they didn’t want to support the genocide. there have been protests in Israel for a ceasefire.
the genocide is tragic. death toll reached 30,000 officially yesterday, and that’s an undercount and doesn’t account for the thousands still stuck under the rubble.
but when people say things that generalize the entirely of Jews into a comment regarding how evil and vile Israel is… that is antisemitism. “let all Jews suffer the same way Palestinians did” is antisemitic (though I haven’t seen that on my dash yet). “the Star of David symbolizes genocide” (not repeating it word for word) that’s antisemitic. the symbol originated far before Israel.
though not exactly antisemitic, a common one I see is, “let Israel suffer what Palestine suffered tenfold.” hey. hey. I’m not saying what the Palestinians went through wasn’t horrific, because it is, but you’re wishing so much tragedy on all of Israel. there are people who support Palestine there. also, propaganda is heavy in Israel. their civilians grew up being taught Islamphobic and anti-Palestine beliefs. also, uh, I just don’t think wishing death, utter destruction, starvation, disease, and malnutrition on an entire population is a good thing to do?? no matter what?
this post does not mean I support Israel. I’m just saying be mindful of what you say, okay? especially when this genocide is a media hotspot and a great time to use media literacy skills.

Israel had just open fire on thousands of Gazans waiting for aid
WHAT THE HELL. RIGHTFULLY, THESE ARE INNOCENT PEOPLE WAITING FOR AID.
today, February 29, 2024, Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd that had gathered around aid trucks in Gaza. the attack killed more than 100 and injured 700+ people.
Israeli military defended this attack by saying the Gazans were looting the supplies and hence why they were killed. another anonymous official said soldiers that were securing the path of the aid trucks opened fire after the crowd approached the forces in a hostile manner.
that doesn’t excuse the fact that they opened fire on a crowd full of malnourished, starving, desperate, unarmed civilians. those civilians didn’t have any weapons in them, and they were so desperate for food as Gaza nears a famine. famine resulting from Israeli blockade of supplies, might I mention.
this is so wrong. this is the clear as day evidence that what Israel is doing in Gaza is a genocide.

the United States vetoed a United Nations’ calling for cease-fire in Gaza
this is not the first time — in fact, it is the third time — the United States have vetoed a resolution for an end, however temporary it is, to the Israel-Hamas war.
on February 20, 2024, the United States has used its veto to block a cease-fire in Gaza during a United Nations Security Council.
the UN Security Council is a council made up of 15 countries: 5 permanent countries with veto power (the US, United Kingdom, China, Russia, and France) and 10 temporary countries that are elected by the General Assembly for a 2-year term.
13 countries voted in favor, while Britain abstained and the United States straight out rejected the proposal.
the US’ reasoning? the cease-fire would “jeopardize Washington’s negotiation efforts with Qatar and Egypt” (NYT) for a deal that would release hostages to bring forth a temporary cease-fire. this deal have not reached a consensus at all between Israel and Hamas. this is an external, third-party deal done outside of the United Nations Security Council.
the United States was never in favor of the war in Gaza ending.
months before, it had vetoed a resolution that would provide supplies to the civilians of Gaza, put forth by Brazil. the thing is, the resolution condemned Hamas’ attacks on Israel and demanded release of Israeli hostages (Israel is an ally of the US, and the US had long called for a hostage exchange) but the US still vetoed. ironic, hmm?

seeing zionists make posts and reblogs like “free palestine from hamas” or “free israel from hate” (this is, most commonly, used to combat anti-zionism) while supporting the genocide and israel is so hypocritical.
“free palestine from hamas.” yeah. sure. i agree that hamas should step down after the conflict, but first, why don’t you condemn israel’s war crimes? the shooting of innocent civilians trying to get aid? the unnecessary bombing of the al-shifa hospital? the killing of over 31,000 people? the complete decimation of religious sites and schools and medical care centers? also, hamas wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for israel’s constant discrimination against the palestinians, not to mention they were funded by netanyahu.
“free israel from hate.” zionists usually use the argument why do you hate jews so much etc etc” to fight anti-zionism. this ignores the thousands of israeli christians, arabs, and other religious/atheist israelis. not to mention that there are jews that support palestine and condemn israel.
it’s been six months. the evidence is at your fingertips. this is possibly one of the most well-documented conflicts in history. this didn’t start on october 7.

israeli troops retreat from southern gaza, palestinians return to destroyed homes.
the title speaks for itself. israel recently withdrawn most of its troops from southern gaza. but palestinians leaving rafah and such southern refugee cities return to homes decimated into rubble by the air strikes.
when the permanent ceasefire comes, don’t forget about the palestinians onto whatever the next humanitarian crises the media is on. don’t forget to press israel’s government for reparation fees. don’t forget about the thousands killed. don’t forget, and force the israeli government to take responsibility, okay?

5 people from jose andres's world kicthen were killed by israel airstike
israel strikes an international aid organization’s convoy, kills seven, aid organization pulls back aid.
sorry for the late response. things have been hectic irl.
the aid convoy of an international food aid organization, world central kitchen, has been hit by an israeli strike and killed seven people — six foreigners and one palestinian.
the world central kitchen was founded by chef josé andrés to deliver food to humanitarian crises locations. they have delivered millions of meals to gaza.
the group was headed off to northern gaza to deliver food since northern gaza is facing a famine. the israeli air strike came shortly after. six of these seven people were foreign citizens, and many of the countries they were citizens of had condemned the attack.
the convoy’s supplies all contained the organization’s logo. the roof of the convoys are marked with the organization’s logo. israel called the attack a misfire, but the three convoys attacked were miles apart. below is a map of the strikes from the new york times.
israel has faced a lot, and a lot, of international criticism for the attacks.
a bit of personal opinion here, but how does one attack an aid convoy “accidentally” while the convoys were clearly marked with the logos of the organization? the fact that israel has a reputation for hitting aid convoys does not help. i genuinely do not think it was accidental.
world central kitchen’s founder, josé andrés, has called this a systematic attack on his aid workers.
because of the attacks, aid flow into gaza is drastically slowing down. world central kitchen has pulled back some of its supplies.
now, this is not to ignore the hundreds of aid workers that have died prior. the death toll climbs everyday, and it will continue rising if a ceasefire isn’t put into place soon.
if it is intentional (and most likely is), israel is intimidating other aid workers to stop sending as much aid to gaza because if they do, they will get killed as well.

18.9% voted “uncommitted” in Minnesota’s Democratic primary ballots to protest Biden’s Gaza policy | Super Tuesday results
this is a post in a sequence of posts talking about the USA Super Tuesday results. these posts will be tagged accordingly.
-
18.9% of voters in Minnesota’s Democratic primary voted “uncommitted” to protest against Biden’s Gaza policy. that is nearly 46,000 votes. even though it’s not as much as the 101,000+ votes casted in Michigan, that is still a super large percentage of people who have voted in the primaries. for record, the 101,000+ “uncommitted” votes in Michigan was 13.3% of all the votes.
by sheer numbers, though, second place goes to North Carolina with nearly 88,000 “uncommitted” votes — 12.7%. third place is Massachusetts with almost 56,000, or 9.4%, votes. below is a chart of the “uncommitted” votes by state, from the NYT:
speaking of protesting Biden’s Gaza policy, the Biden administration has only recently begun supporting Palestine more. I’d like to point out that while it is good, this is not done out of the true kindness of their hearts. maybe it is, but it probably isn’t.
don’t get me wrong. I loved Kamala Harris’ ceasefire in Gaza speech, and how she called Israel’s government out on their genocidal actions in the Gaza Strip. but those efforts, and the airdrops, were done in an effort to appeal to the pro-Palestine crowd.
this stance they’re taking is an effort to level the playing ground. polls show that Trump is more popular than Biden right now, so Biden can’t afford to lose any more voters . especially considering the amount of uncommitted voters.
I’m glad they’re taking more actions to help Palestine. I don’t think it’s enough, and I don’t like the main reason why they’re taking these actions.

another crowd gathering around an aid convoy has been hit
at least 20 people have died with more than 100 injured. the Gazan Health Ministry accused the Israeli forces of purposefully targeting large crowds of civilians waiting for aid.
the Israeli military denied the allegations and blamed Palestinian gunmen were the causes. it’s impossible to immediately verify who is correct or incorrect.
in recent weeks, the demand for more aid has increased. the US recently built a port on sea to send food and conducted airdrops, but none of it is enough. some of the food were expired or not halal, and some aid attempts have turned deadly.
but ceasefire/hostage return hopes have increased since Hamas dropped its criteria of a permanent ceasefire and agreed to a hostage exchange. let’s hope this one goes through and a ceasefire follows, and for the hostages on both sides to return home safely.
free Palestine.

Russia and China vetoed a resolution for a ceasefire proposed by the United States
…I don’t even know how to feel about this anymore. ah, well. thecurrentevents, at your service.
on March 22, 2024, a United States-proposed resolution to a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict failed in the United Nations Security Council. Russia and China, two out of five countries with absolute veto power, vetoed the resolution.
this is the first time there United States is backing a resolution with mentions of a “ceasefire” in it, showing the US’ toughened stance on Israel’s genocide in Gaza. but don’t let this fool you — Biden is losing votes among pro-Palestinian voters, and he’s doing everything he can to get these votes on his side. the GOP isn’t much better though.
according to the United States’ ambassador, this veto was probably a combination of reasons — they don’t like the United States (obvious), and they refuse to condemn Hamas for their actions.
according to the Russian ambassador, the resolution was written with the United States’ political agenda in mind, and the resolution did not go far enough to promise peace for the Palestinians.
according to the Chinese ambassador, the resolution does not clearly condemn Israel’s military campaign in Rafah that can lead to “severe consequences” (Russia, China veto).
considering how the United States vetoed three ceasefire resolutions before, stating it’ll disrupt hostage negotiations and Israel’s “self-defense” against Hamas, political agenda is likely in the resolution. this also shows that US-Russia/China relations are at an all time low. it’s a bad political era to be alive, I guess?
still. I hope a ceasefire attempt goes through soon. whenever that is.
