The Babadook (2014)
One of the things I enjoy about social media (yes there are some things worthwhile there) is the opportunity to discover films that might otherwise have slipped under the radar. “The Babdook” was a film that never played in more than two theaters at a time on it’s original release. However, the word of mouth on the film back in 2014 was that it was terrifying. Those praises made it worthy for me…

Day 19 of #28daysofblackcosplay is the Babadook from the 2014 film. So, as a goth I always wanted to branch out and do more horror cosplay. But not just some girl in a slutty dress version of a horror icon. Like something legit scary so I chose the Babadook. I’ll be real with you guys, this movie scared the s***out of me on first watch. But I love the movie’s themes of dealing with trauma and grief. Even if it came in the form of this creepy entity birthed from a pop-up book. I REALLY WANTED THAT POP UP BOOK! But alas it sold out before I could get my hands on it. So for my version of the pop-up book I basically did a re-cover on one of my empty sketchbooks and painted the cover myself. Doesn’t look too bad right? so I made the decision, rather foolishly, to wear this outfit to @monsterpaloozaofficial . However the day I decided to wear it was nearly 94° and I’m in a thick British winter coat. But nonetheless, the cosplay was a success as I left the pop out book in the middle of the hallway and hit around the corner to catch unsuspecting victims. To my surprise how many kids wanted to take photos with me. Little boys were actually quite terrified of me and little girls wanted photos and hugs so badly. And to the kids and parents surprise when they found out that I was a girl under that make up was hilarious! Would love to do this cosplay again for Monsterpalooza… on a much colder day lol Cosplay and book made by me! As a Black cosplayer, I’ve long since realized that black cosplayers in the community don’t get their just dues and appreciation for the work they do. We are always called “variants” or “(insert character name) if they were black”. I think it’s time we break that negative stigma and show appreciation for cosplayers of color. Day 20 tomorrow! #nilissues #blackcosplayer #horror #horrormovies #horrorcosolay #thebabadook #babadook #popupbook (at MONSTERPALOOZA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaK_k3CP_eR/?utm_medium=tumblr

Okay so! I have a ghost story for you: A few months ago, late at night, I was walking through the hall towards my kitchen and in one of the hallway corners, I saw a small cat sized shadow. It was too dark to see any distinctive features but since I have two cats, I assumed it was one of them and went closer to say hi. As I got closer, I noticed that it did not get any clearer to look at. In fact, it was like the harder I tried to see, the less I actually saw. The shadowy shape was definitely in the shape of a cat, but it wasn’t behaving like a solid object usually would. It felt like it was pulling darkness into it, and the longer I stared, the less sure I was that it was corporeal, or that I was even seeing anything at all. I started to get a strange feeling running through me, like when you go to a zoo and meet the eyes of a dangerous wild animal, when you suddenly become very aware of how powerful it actually is. I was confused though, and not fully putting the pieces together, so I reached out a finger and tried to touch where it’s forehead should be. I touched fur, definitely fur. At first I was relieved, because I thought that confirmed it was one of my cats, but as I left my finger on the shape, I got the sure feeling that the shape didn’t mean me any harm, but if I continued to touch it, that might be subject to change. At this point I was extremely confused, but I really felt the need to move away, so I left the hall quickly and moved into the living room…. where both of my cats were sound asleep. NOW i was panicking. I went back to look at that corner but the shape and all shadows were gone. In fact, I could see that entire corner perfectly, even though the lighting hadn’t changed at all. I fully believe that I had an interaction with a ghost cat, and I am honored that it appeared to me and allowed me to touch it ☺️
aaa ghost kitty, adorable. i had a few weird ghost experiences and also had that feeling like i should just go away, even though the apparition felt very harmless and non threatening. thank you for the story <3
