heyyyy its been a while but I have some more aztec mythology head canons regarding the four tezcatlipocas
Ooo okie letsa see
(Yes ik theres more than four but thats bc of the like depends who you ask thing)
Tezcatlipoca: the kind of guy that gets upset if you dont pick up the phone or show up like 2 seconds late for something while never answering the telephone and always showing up late, is thinking miku miku ooeeoo, waluigi on mario kart, rage quit playing knots and crosses with a computer;
Mictlantecuhtli: listens to classical music like its heavy metal and calmly listens to metal like ots classical music, idk why but i think he watches novelas, cinnamon roll, "cant rn, having a tea party with gertrude, shes telling me about her grandkids and how excited she is to see them in dia de los muertos", yoshi in mariokart, the embodiment of that "literally name one thing better than a dog" post if yk what im talking abt;
Quetzacoatl: if he got the golden ticket he would have robbed all of the chocolate in the factory and helped the oompa loompas to make a workers union, toad in mariokart, likes to laugh at conspiracy theories;
Xipe-totec: same vein as mictlantecuhtli with music stuff, great at cooking, baby peach in mariokart, victim of deez nutz jokes;
Huitzilopochtli: do not allow him on the kitchen my man cannot cook for the life of him, "be the reason why the music stops in a videogame", luigi in mariokart, is in the sun deities groupchat and only ever replies with "k." when someone tells him its his turn to be the sun;

Yet the wind keeps whispering the tale from centuries ago...
Long ago, in the era when gods held dominion over the earth, two brothers stood as the principal deities. Kukulkan, the feathered serpent and god of rain, storms, wind, and life, was adored as the favorite of the Mayan kingdom. Beside him was Tezcatlipoca, the god of night, who harbored jealousy for the offerings bestowed upon his brother, receiving only fear in return.
In a sinister plan, Tezcatlipoca orchestrated a party for Quetzalcoatl, intending to intoxicate him. Succumbing to the beverages, Quetzalcoatl unleashed chaos, awakening the next morning with remorse, departing never to be seen again. Before vanishing, he crafted a dagger from obsidian, imbued with the power to revive the dead. However, only the first person to find the dagger could wield its power, and a ritual was required to become its new host, preventing others from using it.
Yaxkin, Quetzalcoatl's personal sorcerer, uncovered Tezcatlipoca's deceit and, with the assistance of other sorcerers, including his brother Ookin, thwarted Tezcatlipoca, leading to his demise. However, the malevolence of Tezcatlipoca consumed Ookin.
Now, a girl named Kit has found the dagger, catching the attention of both brothers. Ookin seeks to use the dagger to resurrect his new master, planning to perform the ritual and become the new host, gaining control over its power.

All 'Dia de Los Muertos' references in today's QSMP event
I’ve seen it in Xitter but not yet in Tumblr, so I’m gonna go and translate each Egg’s book with the references to the deities that are mention within.
(English is not my first language. Sorry for any typo or grammar mistake).
Tumblr media
For Tilin:
Tilin, my girl, I’m sorry you couldn’t enjoy the life it was expected for you, but don’t be afraid you will be with mom at Chichihualcuauhco[1] where I will take care of you. I won’t let anything hurt my helpless girl until you have the opportunity to be reborn again, you didn’t deserve to join the Gods in the underworld. - Tezcatlipoca[2]
Tumblr media
For Bobby:
My little Bobby, you have proven to own dignity and courage to fight for what is right, As a result of this, I’ve invited you to my kingdom  Tonatiuhichan[3], where at my side, you and other warriors will sing about their deeds and will dance until midnight, so you can enjoy forever the sunset that you adore so much. - Tonaituh[4]
Tumblr media
For Juana:
Juana, it’s an honor for me and my wife Mictecachihuatl[5] to have you join us in the Mictlan[6]. Even though your dead was an accident, you may enjoy the journey that is our kingdom. You treated nature with respect in your life, so our dogs are excited to meet you at last. You will join us in the infinity of the universe forever. - Mictlantecuhtli [7]
Tumblr media
For Trump:
Oh Trump, I’m sorry that my currents took you to this destiny, but to compensate I will invite you to Tlalocan[8], where you may join us in our celebration without end, and you may eat all the corn, amaranth, pumpkin, tomato and chile you want. In my kingdom, I promise you there’s no suffering and you will never be alone. - Tlaloc [9]
Now for all the little references:
[1] Chichihualcuauhco:
Afterlife in which children who died young or in childbirth are sent and fed from the “wet-nurse tree” (You can’t see it in the photo, but there was a tree in Tilin’s altar). Souls here wait for their next opportunity to be reborn.
[2] Tezcatlipoca:
He’s one of the four creator gods of the universe. I’m not an expert on Aztec mythology and I wasn’t really into Tilin’s lore, so I’m kinda uncertain as to why he was the one to write to them or how are they connected.
[3] Tonatiuhichan:
One of the afterlife paradises, where the soul of warries who died in battle go. It was believed that warriors could go back to their homes (land of the living) as hummingbirds. (Fun fact: Woman who died at childbirth would be given the same rank as the warriors who died in battle and would be sent to a similar place called Cihuatlampa!)
[4] Tonatiuh:
God of the sun (who runs Tonatiuhichan), who most believed was the creator of the Flor of Cempasúchil.
[5] Mictecachihuatl:
Lady of the Dead, Mictlantecuhtli’s consort. She guards the bones of the dead. (Fun Fact: In Oaxaca, is known as Matlacihua, and is said to punish womanizing and drunken men who walk late at night. Kinda funny considering Mariana and Slime’s interactions lmao.)
[6] Mictlan:
The underworld. Most people who die travel to Mictlan. To travel to the kingdom, you have to go through nine levels, which kinda needs dogs to carry the dead across the river. Same reason as to why Juana is sent dogs. (Fun fact: Depending in the color of the dog, they would act different. Yellow ones would just carry the soul, white ones would refuse cause they just washed themselves, and black dogs would refuse cause they just swum the river.)
[7] Mictlantecuhtli:
Lord of the Dead, king of Mictlan. There’s nothing much to say about him; he just simply tried to maintain order in the kingdom and was kinda of an asshole to other gods. There’s a whole myth about other Gods wanting to repopulate Earth, and him going ‘Nuh uh’ until Quetzalcóatl gets tired of him and steals the human bones from Mictlan lol.
[8] Tlalocan:
The afterlife of the Nectar. Better known as the water paradise, where those who died through drowning (or anything associated with rain for that matter) go. I read somewhere that there’s a theory of Trump dying because he drown in his own tears, so that’s why he was invited by Tlaloc.
[9] Tlaloc:
The God of rain, associated as the giver of life. The flower Tagetes Lucida are kind of like the Cempasúchil, and are his symbol.

Note
So the White Tezcatlipoca is called the Mercy Bow, the Blue is called the Liberation Machete, and I think the Red is something like the Justice Scythe, does the Black Tezcatlipoca have a fancy name like that? the Peace Goop?
it will.
not peace goop though.... except perhaps in jest.

"Meditation is the royal road to the attainment of freedom, a mysterious ladder that reaches from earth to heaven, darkness to light, mortality to Immortality." -Sivananda
Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca Talon Abraxas Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent God of the Aztecs Quetzalcoatl (pronunciation: keht-zahl-koh-ah-tul), was an important god to the ancient Mesoamericans. The Aztecs regarded him as the god of knowledge and priesthood, an inventor of the Aztec calendar, and the discoverer of maize, or corn.
In some versions of the ancient myths, Quetzalcoatl was the wind god, the rain god that brought rain for crops, and a creator-god who brought back the human bones from the underworld, allowing for the resurrection of human life. Hence, Quetzalcóatl became the symbol of death and resurrection, known for his generosity and bestowing many blessings to the people.
The Four Tezcatlipocas Quetzalcoatl is often associated with and depicted as the half-snake, half-quetzal bird. He was the son of the god Ōmeteōtl (the name referring to the pair of Aztec deities. Ometecuhtli and Omecihuatl) and had three brothers, Xipe Totec, Huitzilopochtli, and Tezcatlipoca, also referred to respectively as the Red, the Blue, and the Black Tezcatlipoca. Quetzalcoatl was the White Tezcatlipoca. Together, they were called the four Tezcatlipocas.
He played an important role in the Aztec creation myth and was given several names including the Feathered Serpent and Plumed Serpent, and was Tezcatlipoca’s main rival. Tezcatlipoca, Aztec God
Tezcatlipoca (Nahuatl pronunciation: Tez-cah-tlee-poh-ka), meaning lord of the smoking mirror in the Nahuatl language, referred to the obsidian mirror used during the Aztec divination rites. Human and blood sacrifices that were conducted with the sacrificial obsidian knife were closely associated with Tezcatlipoca.
Tezcatlipoca was the Aztec god of night sky and sorcery and played an important part in the Aztec creation myth. He was also known as Black Tezcatlipoca, was also a vengeful god, and would not hesitate to punish any immorality and vices happening on earth.

Quetzalcoatl in RoR
Tumblr media
He's the "White Tezcatlipoca", one of the wisest gods on Earth. Quetzalcoatl is quite a mysterious and kind god. He wasn't into battles, and actually, was one of the gods who ignored Zeus calling for the meeting, surely he knew what was happening but still remainded equal to it. He's the type of god who likes to walk among his creations, listen to them. In fact, since war isn't something of his liking, he uses his words most part of the time. But it's better not to piss him off. "You know that I truly appreciate them, Bruhnilde. Let me help you". Those words were heared by Hermes and Tezcatlipoca. He knows that it's a big deal and still... His will tells him that it's ok to follow the valkyrie's plan...
Well, here's his final design!! I feel a bit unsure because I think I couldn't reflect most of his beauty but still I think I'll let him like this until I finish the other gods ahha. What do you think? @itz-hellenz @praisethesuuun @nicasdreamer @rlvdnt (thanks a lof for the help!!)

come on guys are we really praising tezcatlipoca's design as good and cool just because seeing it made nasu pull an oberon and use the character more prominently. the art is good in a bubble, the character design could be good in a bubble, but it does not exist in a bubble. this character design was specifically made for and applied inappropriately to an aztec deity. oberon was good, sure, but we're talking about white tezcatlipoca here. white skinned blonde-haired tezcatlipoca. congressman tezcatlipoca. "it's just like oberon, nasu saw a good design and" what? a what design? like god i know everyone kind of let quetz slide but a whitewashed character design that is part of a larger pattern of whitewashing is actually a good design now if it's these particular guys doing it?

Note
I'll forever be upset that they made Quetzalcoatl a blonde white woman. Like the only good thing about that is they inadvertently didn't sexualize an indigenous woman but still she could have been so cool
Just wait until you see Tezcatlipoca, Huitzilopochtli and Kukulkan

My unpopular FGO opinion is that Tezcatlipoca should get far less hate than Quetzalcoatl and Tlaloc rather than being the face of the "white pharaoh-nism" discourse. I'm not saying he should get no criticism or that there's no bias and colorism going on in the game, and I understand that most people posting about him haven't actually read LB7 (about which there will be some spoilers in this post so beware), but I do think his design fits the personality and themes going on with his character and the way he's literally cosplaying as a white USA capitalist and moving on from his mythological roots due to making modernity his whole thing. Giving him a design so different from his mythological perception was a very deliberate decision, and it kinda works. Tho it makes little sense he keeps it up even in his 3rd ascension, yeah.
Meanwhile Quetzalcoatl would have made much more sense if she had a more traditional design to properly contrast Tezcatlipoca. This would have made Kukulkan much better also, since she's basically cosplaying Quetz and doesn't actually have anything to do with any of the region's mythology, so the fact that she's white would work well by giving some hint to her real identity if all the other mesoamerican characters bar Tez had a darker skin tone.

Ya know SMTIV, what this is actually perfect. Remember what I said about how Nasu could never be asked to show even a modicum of respect to Tezctalipoca as a figure, and how the "Tezcatlipoca" in FGO in no way has the spirit of their alleged origins?
Tumblr media
Well I don't care much for this design either.
In fact I don't like SMT's (or more specifically Soejima's, who is still very much talented as I'll make clear) Tezcatlipoca design at all. I personally find it ugly and having an aesthetic I'm not that fond of, particularly the sort of "Bigfoot sighting" pose he has going on.
But i don't hate it, and I certainly am not morally opposed to it like FGO's, because even if I personally dislike it, ya know what it is? It's still undeniably based on Tezcatlipoca and keeps that spirit in several ways evident through design alone, let alone the way he's implemented into the game itself. It's a design that feels like it respects the culture it's taking its name from, and I'd much rather it do that than have an aesthetic I'm more fond of but lack any representation of its source material.
Tumblr media
Just on a surface level you can see the ways in which this is meant to be Tez.
Holding a human heart with one arm, which were sacrificed to him in Aztec rituals
His body is visibly black and navy blue and made of a stony substance, which is a reference to the association many aztec gods but especially Tez had with obsidian rock, and the main symbol of Tez is an obsidian mirror.
Despite this, his other arm and legs are dissolving into smoke at the end, which is a reference to his main title of Smoking Mirror.
His skull-like head is pretty clearly meant to invokes a Calavera, which even if you didnt know the name of you've probably seen if you've ever witnessed a Day of the Dead festival.
That's all just the surface level stuff. There's plenty more if you know to look for it.
While one of his arms is visible, neither of his legs are, which fits with how Tezcatlipoca lost at least one of his legs to the giant crocodile Cipactli when the world was created
While blue isn't the primary color Tez is associated with, the use of teal/navy blue specifically fits with how he was often depicted with an almost interchangeable combination of grey-ish dark blue and black.
Despite my "bigfoot posture" remark, it very much fits Tezcatlipoca, whose spirit animal was the Jaguar, an animal well known for stalking and ambushing prey (rather than chasing it down like African big cats are known to do).
the way the smoke curls around as if forming an extremely distorted prosthetic foot matches how Tez's missing foot is specifically portrayed in the Codex Yohualli Ehécatl (AKA, the source of the image on Tez's wikipedia page), particularly with how the coloring shifts to orange-yellow at the end.
The most shaky but still worth noting claim: The emphasis on the blood flowing from the heart, combined with the gems embedded in Tez's head, could even be a reference to the Ezpitzal, which while looking very different in mesoamerican art still is no doubt connected, given how the key traits are flowing blood and embedding precious stone in [a crown above] the head.
So....do I like this design? No, personally, not really. I'm way too much of an edgelord to settle for such a toned down and subtle design for a figure like Tezcatlipoca.
Do I respect this design? Absolutely, zero question. It's the kind of design you could never get if they didn't at least TRY to research Tezcatlipoca, let alone do so well (at least i can only assume well based on the result). That's the difference between this design and "some white guy from the GAP who likes guns". You can tell they gave a shit, not just in general but specifically in regards to the culture being referenced.
(Oh, and also unlike FGO Tezcatlipoca, I don't need to be told "someone famous drew it" to be able to figure out someone talented drew it. )

Since I mentioned it earlier as an aside I'll shout it here, Radiant Historia is secretly the best RPG about/featuring Aztec mythology I've played.
Average piece of mythology media when it gets to the Aztecs: Look it's the pure white skinned Quetzalcoatl who wants to stop the evil Tezcatlipoca from making people do human sacrifices and other barbaric uncivilized things.
Radiant Historia:
-The villain is a selfish coward who ruins the sacrificial ritual needed to prevent desertification, who in the true ending finally accepts the idea of sacrificing himself for someone else.
-Past generations of the royal family went through with the ritual because they loved the world and didn't want it to become a barren lifeless desert.
-The sacrifices are given power over time itself that effectively makes them gods as part of the ritual, until the time of their sacrifice inevitably comes.
-Overseeing the ritual are near-divine and benevolent twins who value human life deeply, human life is needed to save the world precisely because it is valuable.
And then Perfect Chronology came along and ruined this by completely defanging the ending, presumably to try and make the game more marketable. Aztec mythology really struggles to get a single uncomplicated win in today's media landscape.
