finally feel like I'm at a point where I can share this idea!!! so @cookieg122 and I have been working on an AU for a few months now that's a pretty big departure from the Minecraft stuff we've been working on, as it's more of a fully-original concept instead ;o;

this story has a proper name, as well!! titled Codename: IRIS, the plot centers around a younger Khalan, who gets into gaming as a form of escape from his abusive home life and the stress of moving to a new country/big city. but he quickly finds out that the game console he was gifted actually houses a seemingly-sentient AI - of which he names Aya.

the two go on adventures through various video games to stop a different, malevolent AI that's threatening to corrupt the virtual world; all while utilizing futuristic VR technology to do so. but they also take breaks sometimes with more typical PC gaming and meet Antony along the way, who ends up being a sort of "guide" for Khalan (as the kid is pretty new to video games as a whole) :'0

unfortunately, the virtual threat does end up spreading to the real world as well, which pushes Khalan and Aya (who can move freely between the game console and his phone) to solve challenges within the city itself in a race against the clock to stop the threat - just as long as Khalan manages to get back home in time before his dad finds out;;

there's so much more to this story that I can't really cover in just a single post, but I felt like it was finally time to at least reveal the basics of this concept to y'all!! it's been a lot of fun to re-imagine these characters within a "real life" setting (taking place in an alternate version of Earth in the year 203X), though it's still very sci-fi at its core, lol.

Were you ever asked about Shigure art? I was about to ask if the Resplendent may have become your new favorite but all I can find is Ninja posts and "its not Silas so my wallet is safe"

I made a brief reaction post, but no official review of it, so I think our blue lad deserves a review.

Resplendent Shigure, drawn by… I think Kano Akira. Google translate fails me and I think that’s the only artist that matches that style:

I wanna say that this Resplendent is lovely. Nifl’s elements were incorporated so well over Shigure’s outfit; the shoulder pauldrons with the gems, the Nifl trinkets on his little belt, the feathers, the snowflake trim… Shigure looks like he could be Fjorm’s slightly younger brother. My only gripe is that I wish he had a cape or a scarf added to the outfit for maximum flowiness. But what we got was definitely beautiful.

The art itself is really nice too. Nothing against Yura’s original piece, but the way they shaded the nose was so weird. Kano Akira fixes that issue, and also colors his eyes in a pretty way. Posework is decent and the effects for his critical portrait are rad. The expressions are pretty good, too. Shigure got some much needed attention.

I think Nifl fits based more on the aesthetic rather than an actual thematic reason for Shigure. One, it’s because he’s matching his mother. And two, Nifl’s color scheme is similar to Valla’s, so it definitely looks good on Shigure.

Overall, I’d give Resplendent Shigure a 9/10. I just wish he had a cape or scarf, then we would have had a 10/10 design.

ALRIGHT okay I will attempt to explain this to the best of my ability, which is currently being held together by tape and coffee

so I have a long running post philippi story focusing on the octavian-antony divorce arc conflict and it's heavily dramatized and full of dead people. it's one part historical, one part my own invention, and one part fucking around with ideas (or the lack there of) in movies about antony and cleopatra. many of which are bad! however. there is a bad one that's actually good. like, I wouldn't recommend it except that I talk about it constantly.

it's the 1953 movie, Serpent of the Nile and I have not known peace since watching it. it's one of the more interesting takes on antony and cleopatra (TO ME), and more importantly: I'm obsessed with the plot point where antony helps lucilius escape egypt to warn octavian.

this scene is partially inspired by that! this scene is partially inspired by several things, but that's the one to mention bc I haven't published any of this story except for the periodic scene I've drawn for fun so listing the rest of it will not add to this experience and also I’m very sleepy right now

the egyptian wall backgrounds in the first page and the last page are of a tomb wall painting, the third page uses an illustration of the death of antony for shakespeare's antony and cleopatra, and on the second page is actually my own painting of antony and cleopatra after giambattista pittoni's painting of antony, cleopatra, and the famous pearl incident

additionally, that last page. the floor. that's a relief commemorating the battle of actium. I'd been reading about depictions of actium and it is. intriguing, especially since my first thought wrt to all of that is usually abt the bodies in the water and how they'll never be buried or antony's parthian fuck up setting the stage for all of this.

picking tiarnan in the warden v hawke v inq poll wasnt even favouritism btw but im genuinely breaking down how i played them and i think since i play mages as unintended in a 1v1v1 scenario seanan and antony would not suit it at all. i built tiarnan to be a tank and by awakening she was pretty much indestructible and the spirit warrior abilities only added to this. antony was built for aoe and dealing with big crowds of enemies mostly and was really good for controlling the battlefield and using the likes of death siphon and blood magic to stay alive as fights went on, but i think in a 1v1v1 fight he’d probably be way less effective, he also knows 0 healing spells so he can’t even really self-sustain here. seanan was built as a glass cannon and while shes a knight enchanter i never used any defensive/barrier abilities (aside from the anchor shield one) and relied on the rest of the party for that stuff. on top of this i played both antony and seanan as relatively close ranged fighters - they were in the thick of it rather than on the edges, which means i think if they’re in range for tiarnan’s aoe abilities they get fucked. the biggest advantage they have is that tiarnan’s stamina was fucking shit because of the spirit warrior passives and heavy armour, and the power of blood warrior abilities to health damage so she could end up fucking herself over in that regard lol

SUPER belated "birthday" post time!!

I realized! that I never shared the very first piece of art that I ever drew of Antony, so I figured that now was probably a great time for a comparison - to show how much he's changed in a year's time. surprisingly?? not much. most of his design characteristics haven't changed, but the proportions have.

can't believe it's been a little over a year now since I created him ;o; the first time I drew him was back at the end of January in 2022, not long after I had also started writing Khalan's Journal. initially, Antony was almost a sort of "joke" character; making reference to the annoying Wandering Traders that kept cropping up during our time in the SMP... but he very quickly evolved into a more in-depth character and became such an integral part of the story;;

I never posted the initial drawings of him though because, once I was ready to actually talk about him online, he was so much more than just a kid pretending to be a Wandering Trader... and I didn't want ppl getting that first impression of him and thinking he was a trader OC. so I held off on posting, but then at that point, his design had kind of shifted just a bit so that initial art didn't fully reflect the image I was attempting to convey anymore.

but! here it is now, just a little showcase of where he started vs. where he's ended up! :D figured it'd be a fun lil' way to celebrate that one-year mark tbh!!

(side note: his canonical birthday is in summer, even though I created him in winter. although time works differently in his world, I feel like July 10th fits well if I were to place his bday on an exact date. :'0 just a fun fact!)
