Exploring Ttrpgs that fall outside of the Dnd kinda game play. I've got my eye on 'The One Ring', 'Walking Dead Universe', 'Heart' and 'The Wildsea' but I'd love further recommendations! Also if anyone's planning on running a game in any of these rpgs I'd love to be part of it!

Do you know any solo RPGs that are about exploring an unknown world? Preferrably with some support for intriguing flora and fauna.
THEME: Exploratory Solo Games
Hello there! I have quite a few games here that are exploratory in some way shape or form. Some have creatures, some have plants, and some have something else! I hope you find something here that works for you.
The Verge, by Gordie Murphy.
You have found your way into the Verge, that edge of the forest beyond its edge. In the midst of the woods that stretch horizon to horizon, getting lost is easy, no matter how clearly the sun may seem to burn. The Verge doesn’t want you there, no more than it wanted me there. Whatever desperate hope you may hold in the Verge, once the sun has set it will be too late–without sacrificing more than you may be willing to sacrifice.
Heed me: the Ritual you must complete is intricate, and must be performed with precision. The pieces of this Ritual can only be found within the Verge.
Be cautious, as the Verge will surely tell you falsehoods. Walk with trepidation, for the Verge will seek to ensnare you. Fortify yourself, for the Verge will ask everything of you. But seek furiously, for the rewards are unfathomable.
The Verge uses the Carta System, which employs a deck of cards laid out in a grid, to represent a map that your character slowly explores. As you turn the cards over, you'll find new strange things in the forest you are traveling through: and in this case, strange plants and ritual elements will dot your path, in both beautiful and eerie ways.
Homeward, by rejamison.
In the After, hope has died out. The few of us left wander desperate and afraid. We scavenge and squabble over the abandoned scraps of a dead civilization. Can you light a spark of hope?
You were born in the After, you have never known a world full of people, but are daily reminded of Before by that strange world's artifacts strewn haphazardly across an endless wilderness.
A few, like you, remain…but feral. Scratching for survival, as likely to offer a fist as an open hand.
You do not know what came between the Before and After, does it haunt the world still? Survival in the wilds is test enough…what else lurks?
Homeward is not just about exploration. It's also about survival. To include the feeling of struggle and danger, you'll need to track time on a chart that represents a 10-month calendar, and also monitor a number of various resources that are meant to keep you alive. Your character will use a deck of cards to explore the world around them, coming across both opportunities and dangers, and then return to their settlement to build it up over time.
While you play the game solo, your character will also meet new folks and develop alliances, which are integral to survival. If you're interested, the title link is for the demo of the game; a more full version is available on Kickstarter.
Coiled.Space, by Aether Corp Games.
Coiled.Spæce is a solo journalling game for up to 4 players.
It's a none-too-serious, sci-fi game in which you Jump® around a deteriorating universe collecting energy from its inhabitants by rolling full sets of polyhedral dice to generate everything from your vessel & crew to star systems and energy emitting bodies (EEB).
Coiled.Space really gives you your bang for your buck. Buying the game on Itch gets you a training manual PDF, a log book to record your journey in, the console & scanner PDFs, bookmarks for easy reference, monochrome versions and spread layout versions, as well as a little list of all of the Easter eggs hidden throughout the game.
The game itself is a loop: generate a vessel & a harvester, jump to a star system, navigate between orbits, scan an EEB, harvest energy, and return home. You use different dice to generate your vessels, resources, and other prompts, allowing you to expereince the tactile joy of playing with as many different dice as possible.
Exploration is only a small piece of Coiled.Space. Just as important is your ability to manage resources, as you won't be able to make a jump across star systems if you don't have enough energy in your ship. You'll also need to watch your vessel stability, or your ship may fall apart and you may barely escape with your life.
Whispers on the Rails, by shadowcrunch.
Whispers on the Rails is a journaling game wherein you board a mysterious train, destination unknown. There are two included versions, one using a prompt table system, the other using a deck of tarot cards. As you travel through the train cars, you use the prompts or tarot cards to describe the interior and exterior of the next train car, and each train car will be its own journal entry, with the potential to be a completely different world or environment. As the prompts or tarot cards paint a picture of your surroundings in the train car, you should imagine yourself there, take a moment to reflect on how this train car makes you feel. Use your journal to briefly describe what you see, then your feelings or thoughts and how this new environment affects you.
I really appreciate the thought and effort the author of Whispers on the Rails put into the game, creating a way to play it with either tarot cards or dice. The prompts that you roll or draw for shape the interior of the car that you're in, as well as the world around you. Your character will have some kind of problem or obstacle to overcome, and as you write your journal entry, you'll be integrating the problem into the description of the environment around you.
While you are exploring the train that you've found yourself on, I think that Whispers on the Rails is also meant to be rather reflective; your character will be on a journey of self-discovery as well.
H.A.V.O.C: Extraplanar Escapade, by kumori.
Welcome to H.A.V.O.C.- the Habitat for Anomalous Vagrant Otherworldly Creatures! As the nonprofit's newest hire, you've been assigned an on-site training in the OuterPlane for a hands-on experience with capturing injured anomalies to receive care back at the facility. Do you think you have what it takes?
While the focus of H.A.V.O.C. is around things called anomalies, there's a number of elements that feel adjacent to the Pokemon game series to me. H.A.V.O.C. is a journalling game that has you exploring the "field", finding and capturing anomalies, and trying to keep yourself rested enough that you can make it back to home base in one piece. You'll need to monitor your inventory of capture orbs, treats, and other gear that will help you gain the trust of the anomalies you're attempting to bring medical care.
Watch the Whispers, by Galaxycryptid.
You play as a Park ranger who has just started working at the Whispering Pines Woods. After discovering the notes left by the previous Park Ranger, you realize that the woods are inhabited by something else: cryptids.
Roll to see what prompt you get while you work, make friends, explore the woods and meet cryptids.
You'll need a d10 and a d20 for this game. Each round of play represents a week of work as a ranger, in which you roll on a number of tables to discover strange signs and new cryptids roaming your park. Your ranger will balance their duties with new encounters, in different locations and with various NPCs. The game feels like a balance between a cozy nature game and an eerie surreal setting, as you can choose to befriend the cryptids in your park, or instead to capture them. Alternatively, you can ignore them - but choose this route and you're likely going to stumble across dead bodies, strangely quiet parts of the wood, and the smells of things long passed.
Untold Creatures, by oddpress.
Beyond the borders of civilization, there are places that hide unique, fascinating, and sometimes terrifying creatures. As a Explorer, your mission is to venture into the unknown, facing challenging journeys in search of these extraordinary beings. Pack your backpack, your notebook, and, of course, your supplies. The road awaits you—it’s time to explore!
Untold Creatures is a short eight-page solo journaling game about exploring a fantastical world in search of unknown creatures. You’ll journey through distant lands, encounter creatures never seen before, and record everything in your journal.
You can print this game on a single piece of paper and fold it into a zine, with a number of small d6 roll-tables that act as an oracle to generate prompts. This game is all about finding and learning about strange creatures, with an end-game determined by a list of goals for your character to complete. These goals include items such as documenting 10 different creatures, finding 3 artifacts, and forming a deep bond with at least 5 different critters.
Wanderer - Travels Through The Hidden Lands, by Beamesy
You move through a strange landscape, filled with things familiar and unknown, mysterious and mundane. You cannot say what brought you to this place, nor how or even whether you might be able to find a way home again. You have only the clothes on your back, a notebook and the few other items you carried with you when you came here.
What will the story of your journey be?
You find yourself in the Hidden Lands, a place beyond, or perhaps it is rather behind, the world we know. It is another plane of existence, but one to which many things can travel, if only by accident. A world in its own right, the Hidden Lands sits somehow adjacent to our own and is filled with places, things and even people that have become lost.
There's certain things I expect from journalling games, and Wanderer looks like it checks all the boxes: a deck of playing cards, likely to present you with prompts, a d6 for randomization, and the expectation that you'll be writing in a journal as you play. The setting feels a little bit like an isekai-style story: you find yourself in another world, and have to figure out how to get back home. I don't think the game specifically focuses on flora & fauna; in general the landscape is the primary focus.

Dungeon Crawler Carl & You
*taps microphone*
Okay, so I've been going off about Dungeon Crawler Carl for months now and I do not see it stopping at any point, so let's see if I can entice one or two of you to join in my madness.
DCC is Lit RPG and written like a video game come to life, from the point of view of the contestants trapped within the game. There are levels to conquer and loot boxes and quests and an AI running things that has a very tenuous hold on stability to begin with and doesn't keep it for very long.
Carl is just... a guy. He's just a guy with a traumatic backstory that he's squished deep down inside himself because he doesn't like drama and he thinks he's doing just fine because it's done, you know? It's in the past, can't change it, can't hurt him anymore.
(It can hurt him. It does hurt him.)
The world as we know it is destroyed in a split second, Carl surviving by mere happenstance and the only reason he goes into the dungeon is that he will literally freeze to death otherwise. At no point is this guy searching for glory or thinking he's a savior, he's just trying to survive another day. That Carl happens to have his ex-girlfriend's prize-winning tortie Persian cat with him is a coincidence - and it turns out to be his major lifeline in the entire series. Princess Donut is his partner in crime, his bestie for life and if he ever loses her, he will lose everything. Goodbye to the last vestiges of his sanity.
The first couple levels are pretty contained, Carl & Donut learning the ropes and how to survive every encounter with increasingly powerful enemies who want nothing more than to see them dead, the eyes of the universe and the corporations running the shitshow ever focusing on them and trying to eke out as much profit as possible at the same time.
Then they meet other survivors - both good and misled - and the beauty of humanity comes out, the sacrifices they are willing to make for one another, the knowledge that they aren't likely to survive, but they make the right choices anyway because dying might be bad, but letting each other down is worse.
The secondary characters grow in complexity with every level. Where it was once just Carl & Donut, it becomes dozens of characters, from all over the world, all of them gifted in their own way, all of them fighting as best they can, some of them betrayed, some of them dying, some of them choosing to go out on their own terms. Men and women and animal alike, they are individual and committed to the greater good.
Matt Dinniman has written a series that takes an emotional toll on its readers: pain, loss, horror, humor, desperation, walking through life with an unrelenting grief. There are dick jokes and drug-dealing, lava-spitting llamas and riffs on Wonderwall and lines like: Trauma does that, I thought. It's an explosion with your heart at the center. It changes everything all at once.
Also, there are velociraptors.
And a decapitated, talking sex doll head that wants to kill everyone's mothers.
It's a LOT of stuff going on, all right?
And just as you think the story can't get any better, enter Jeff Hays. Our audiobook narrator, our man of a hundred distinct voices. Good god, he's phenomenal. I've listened to so many books and while there are some very talented narrators out there, Jeff Hays leaves them in the motherfucking dust. I honest to god thought he was using an app to manipulate his voice for different characters until I saw him narrating in real time and I was utterly blown away by his talent.
The combination of this story by Matt Dinniman and narration by Jeff Hays has me going back, time and time again. I recommend the experience wholeheartedly and hope you'll give it a chance.

Pointless ISAT Headcanons
Hi I have to get up for opening shift tomorrow but who CARES it's time for headcanons. Except not the normal or angsty ones, it's goofy ridiculous hours ONLY. (Please send me more goofy niche headcanons I want to consume silly details like candy.) Filled with spoilers despite the sillies.
Bonnie invents potato chips 10 years after the end of the game after many failed attempts to make Sif like potatoes (Sif LOVES their chips, so this is Bonnie's win in the end).
Immortality fiction is super popular in Vaugarde because they're witnesses to change over decades but are prevented from changing themselves. Tragic wisemen usually. This got way less popular post-King.
Teachers get paid good wages in Vaugarde because they help kids through the period of the most change in their lives.
I think it's so funny everyone in fanfic thinks Sif sleeps in trees. It's universal and y'know what? Sure. I'm adopting that. Y'all had me scrolling through dialogue for ages just to make sure I didn't miss any tree nap mentions.
Loop spent the majority of Sif's first run through Dormont and the House training their voice so that it wouldn't be a dead giveaway to their identity when Sif showed up. They wanted it to sound like Odile. It does not even a little bit.
Mira is RED. Bonnie is ORANGE/YELLOW/BLUE. Odile is PURPLE. Isa is GREEN/BROWN. Sif and Loop are MONOCHROME.
Mira has a notebook FILLED with edgy poetry from when she was small. She buried it somewhere but knows exactly where it is and once every couple years digs it up just to make sure nobody found it.
Bon is a reptile person. Wants a bearded dragon as a pet.
Mwudu is Acadia (in the same way Vaugarde is France, etc.). Not a colony of Vaugarde or anything though, just a lot of cultural exchange. (Vaugarde is NOT imperialistic.)
Post-canon Sif sometimes has such a tight grip on Isa in his sleep that Isa can get up and walk around with them still latched onto him. One morning Isa even brushed his teeth and styled his hair before the Sif on his back woke up.
Nille is swole af. Taller than Odile too. I like it when people give her a braid.
I changed my mind; everyone has really ugly colors because they can't see them and they all look terrible. I do not care about the practicalities of more colorful dyes being difficult to obtain; this is fantasy logic and I say they all should cause eyestrain.
Sif's all-black look under the cloak and hat (both of which he didn't choose) is the only good fashion choice they're capable of making. If you ask them to get creative it's a disaster. Isa indulges this anyways because hell yeah fashion disaster rights, but Sif will inevitably ask for help once he actually sees the design in person.
Isa was a hardcore STEM person, while Odile was properly studying anthropology/writing but is actually SUPER into linguistics.
Fishermen from the Forgotten Country were given additional pathways to easy fishing crabs on Vaugarde's shore because Vaugarde didn't want 'em. The overfishing caused a minor ecological crisis that was then fixed by Wish Craft.
Pre-canon Sif tried to make some money via an eating competition in one of the unnamed countries but was so uncomfortable with the attention from winning first place they refused to ever step foot in the country again. They don't even remember why they refuse to visit anymore but still don't wanna go. It wasn't even that big a contest nor a big deal emotionally long-term (like the party would suspect) for Sif, they're just stubborn.
Since we have a classic RPG setup I think the party's inventory is not limited by logic and they carry around 78 tents and 23 cottages somehow.

Have another round of Warhammer game recommendations now that the steam sale is here!
I absolutely love this game, but I'm also EXTREMELY biased toward liking it because it features my favorite space marines in the whole setting: the Grey Knights. It's a 40k xcom tactical game with some extremely light RPG elements. The kind where you fight extremely tough turn based fights against impossibly hard foes, and characters who die are often permanently dead. But you can recruit new ones, at the cost of retraining and leveling them up. And in classic xcom fashion, even a 95% chance to hit often means you're gonna badly miss.
It's the expansion to Boltgun! But now it's a typing game that features iconic words from the 40k setting! Shoot enemies and get a high score by typing fast without errors. Like the main boltgun game, this is very silly but also a huge labor of love. And it's TOTALLY FREE TO PLAY!
IF you like side-scrolling 2d shooters like Contra or Metal Slug, this is a great game! And it features Orks, everyone's favorite silly green guys. Not much to say about this, except its simple and fun and very orky.
So this isn't 40k. But the Total War Warhammer games were what got me interested in Warhammer Fantasy. When the original game in this franchise released, Games Workshop had officially killed this setting years before. Not just killed it like EA/Bioware killed dragon age, but they had an actual world-ending story happen that canonically destroyed the universe, and then remade it as Age of Sigmar.
But the total war warhammer games are SO GOOD that they reignited fan interest in Warhammer Fantasy. And now it's back! With new lore! And some expansions to the setting based on popular things from this game!
Some of my long-time mutuals might remember how completely obsessed I am with Miao Ying, my dragon blorbo. I still love her. But I also love the Sisters of Twilight. And Throt the Unclean. And Grom the Paunch. And most of all, I love Luthor Harkon, the vampire pirate. There's a whole faction of undead zombie vampire pirates in Warhammer fantasy, and they have giant walking monstrosities formed out of the broken hulls of warships and rotting bodies to hold them together.

I thought i'd introduce myself, shant I?
Welcome to my blog kind stranger!
My name's Lilly, Lilliana and any other alternate spellings. You may also call me Pyro. I'm a 19 year old Software Engineering University student. I also happen to be transgender and aroace*! Im also in a commited relationship with @hxy0k! Go check out their stuff!
So uh. Whats your deal?
Im glad you ask! Im a huge nerd! (Of everything there is to gain knowledge of, I will try to know and remember It! (and fail at It but try!))...
...but I mostly like greek mythology, videogames and medieval history and architecture.
oh yeah. im also a Dungeon Master! i play Pathfinder 2e, D&D, TWDRPG, Unnoficial Hollow Knight TTRPG, Hitos (A Spanish System with no known translations that I know of) and currently I'm making my own! (based on d100s and percentiles, with so much customization its taking YEARS to make (currently its been 4 years in the making)). Other TTRPGs I want to play but I haven't yet (because getting groups together to play is management hell) include Vampire The Masquerade, Cyberpunk and LANCER!
What about talking to you?
Do it!!!!! I have heavy social anxiety and talking to people is incredibly hard. I am 100% approachable and as friendly as I can. I am just anxious constantly and making the first move is hard on my psyche.
Asks are open, DM's too.
I love talking. a lot. about anything and everything. i also listen a lot (even if im not good at conversation).
What videogames you play?
All I can get my hands on. But since you are asking so nicely...
My favorite genres of games to play are; RPGs (with amongst my favorites being the Owlcat Pathfinder games, Fallout: New Vegas, Baldur's Gate 3, Disco Elysium, Dragon's Dogma 1/DA, Cyberpunk 2077 and KOTOR 2 (I didn't play 1 when i played the second I should replay both on Steam now)), Shooters (WILDLY varied taste tho, but I really like Halo (Reach, my beloved), the whole Metro Franchise (SO ATMOSPHERIC SO COOL), Ultrakill, Helldivers 2), Stealth games (with a love for the Dishonored franchise and Metal Gear, but one of my recent likes is Mark of the Ninja!), VR games (this isn't even a genre, but I LOVE Blade and Sorcery and the The Walking Dead VR games. My favorite VR Game is Blade and Sorcery, hands down), any Game made by Valve (seriously Portal and Left 4 Dead are two of my favorite games) and arcade games! (This including ANYTHING really. I love Beat Em Ups, side-scrollers, platformers... I've spent hours playing weird obscure games using emulation tools that would be lost to time otherwise. But my favorites? Both Dungeons & Dragons SOM//TOD and Cadillacs & Dinosaurs. Honorary mention to Knights of the Round (Did you notice I like beat em ups?))
...i also have others I couldnt fit here. Im not a fighting game girlie (because im really bad at them) but I really like Soulcalibur, Street Fighter III and Guilty Gear!
Im also not a horror game aficionada but SIGNALIS has been A WORLD SHATTERING EVENT in my gaming career. BRAIN TWEAKING EXPERIENCE. Chemistry completely changed forever. Please play It. Right now. Its imperative you do, for your sake.
I also really like the first Dark Souls! I would love to say more but- I can't. Its been years and I've only played the first one. Bloodborne fucks severely tho and I will defend It forever GOSH how i love em both even if the second half of the first DS, SUCKS, SEVERELY. (Im the only person i know that hates having to run through the Duke's Archives so much i put off New Game + cycles forever to NOT go kill scaleless' ass)
I really like Indie games but since every single one I like is basically a different genre here you got a speedrun (and recomendation list!);
Celeste (my favorite Game ever, helped so much with anxiety at the time, played It when i didn't know I was transgender... That fact gets funnier with replay), Deadlight (play It once and thats it. Zombie parkour puzzle Game.), Slay the Princess (the multiple voices thing is oddly relatable), Project Zomboid (100% the BEST BEST zombie survival Game ever, love It), Webfishing, Darkest Dungeon (MY BELOVED the sequel), Noita (i like torture), Hollow Knight (even tho im not really into metroidvanias, Hollow Knight IS really fun), Terraria (player since 1.1!), Charlie Murder (not that well known and they deserve It!!), Broforce (It is. So fun), every Game made by The Behemot, Lethal Company, Phasmophobia, Rain World, Undertale and Deltarune (of course) and lastly, Inscryption (another Game that is so so good, please play It)
And well, not an Indie but... I play Minecraft. So much
WOW. Thats was a LOT of text. Anything you do on the side outside of playing games?
I write! Both for my TTRPG campaigns I DM but also stuff on the side!
Nothing's public tho, my cringy fanfiction Will stay with me to my grave. However, I am writing original material right now! A Magical Girls story which any kind of synopsis would blow up the initial mystery. I **may** share snippets of It some day. If my anxiety allows me.
I also do YouTube videos. They aren't very good but I like em. Please check It out. And leave comments! They do make my day.
And... Im also a musician! I play the piano, I'm a drummer and I sing in a choir. I'm composing some stuff on the side as well but I dont have time nor resources to record and compose as comfortably as I'd like. Maybe if I end Up being able to get something I'll post It!
And i draw. Im not good at It, but I draw! This blog should have SOME examples of OC's i draw. Some of em are NPCs in my campaigns, others are player characters, other are just characters. I love em all the same.
Anything else?
I know the Standard Galactic Alphabet. I think its neat. My favorite movie is The Princess Bride. My favorite song is... im not sure I have too many. I have two Blåhaj.
I think you are good to go! Venture into my blog as you wish!
Oh, well. I am also probably autistic. There are no doubts in my all autistic friend group about it.
*im on the aroace spectrum, demisexual and demiromantic to be precise.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a third-person action RPG set in The Expanse universe. You’re no hero—just a merc caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, trying to hold your crew together and keep the ship up and running. Your choices will shape your story.
The Universe Never Told Us if We Did Right or Wrong
By the 24th century, humanity has conquered the cosmos. However, life has remained anything but easy. In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a story-driven sci-fi Action RPG, you play as a Pinkwater Security mercenary whose brief shore leave on the asteroid Eros spirals out of control. Trapped in a deadly lockdown and drawn into a solar system-wide conspiracy far beyond your control, you’ll have to adapt, survive, taking command of the most advanced ship in the whole of the solar system.
Create and customize your own captain—Earther, Martian, or Belter—and lead a crew of highly-skilled specialists as you face off against escalating threats, political pressure, and a relentless enemy that will stop at nothing to see you dead. In a solar system held together by fragile alliances, every decision leaves its mark.
Trust Isn’t Given—It’s Earned
Your companions are more than just mission assets—they are people with their own scars and loyalties. Some chase redemption. Others hide their truths. Over time, your relationships will flourish or deteriorate depending on the choices you make and how you choose to lead. The ship becomes your home—a place where trust is earned, not given.
Dynamic Third-Person Combat
Fight in third-person utilizing cover-focused gunplay and abilities. Two companions will accompany you into the field while others will support from a distance: disabling systems or drawing the enemies’ attention. You will issue real-time commands and have to adapt quickly to survive the manifold threats the system will throw at you.
The Fractured World of The Expanse
Visit iconic locations like Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, and Luna. Walk through ruined habitats and political strongholds mired in unease and tension. Talk to the locals. Uncover secrets. Use your skills to influence what happens next. The system looks different from every planet and from every asteroid. Some are falling apart. Others just hide it better. You may even come across a familiar face or voice that reminds you of just how small the system really is.

Starting Phantom Liberty on replay. I was going to do it before the parade, but I felt it was a better fit if Johnny and V had done the Silverhand Farewell Tour. There's an understanding between them, and Johnny is more in line with his late game development, I think. Also I wanted to get to the party with a lot of side quests completed and Takemura alive after the parade (he was dead last time).
Songbird is definitely leaving things out to V from the start and she is desperately trying to gauge V from the start. I like to imagine Johnny is losing his shit the whole time she has him shut up, well aware of everything going on but unable to say anything about it. I wish that was played with a little bit more, because V would totally screw with him before it all goes nuts, knowing he can hear but not respond.
I talk a lot about Johnny, but V's characterization is excellent in general. The game really pushes for you to act like a decent person. Unlike a lot of action RPGs, V is in many ways a defined character. She is human, really just one of many scrambling in the dirt, not a chosen one of any kind (in a traditional sense). V has no illusions about being able to save the world. V likes nice cars. V is snarky and tells stupid jokes. V is capable but not hyper-capable. I know a lot of players- well, media, at least- were mad they didn't get this total blank slate of a character, but I think it's a strength.
Reed and Alex are great. The way they speak, move, how they handle situations...these are competent adults living in a world without clear-cut answers. I'd been sitting shotgun for my husband's playthrough of BG3 before playing PL the first time, and the quality of character writing in PL was such a shock compared to BG3's band of theater kids.
Johnny's angst is a nice use of him in this. I get it a lot being a veteran myself, though GWOT is a whole different flavor of issues for veterans than his (no matter what university activists like to yammer on about). The fact he's willing to bare this piece of himself to V is part of why I thought I needed to wait until they're closer. "I was fine with it until now"...right buddy. The way he curls around his cyberware shoulder at the tree...it's so unlike him and it speaks to the depth of what's going on in his mind. V still needles him in PL, even at that point, but she hits the target unlike the earlier insults. I'm really glad Johnny was not neglected in PL in favor of hanging out with Songbird the whole time.
What's particularly interesting to me- and another part of why I waited until after the Farewell Tour to do PL- is what the journal entries say about Johnny and V. Johnny by this point is being open about his sympathy towards people and knows V is just a good person who helps people out, and he likes that about her in his snarky way and also doesn't want her getting herself (and him, but he doesn't say us) killed.
Balls to the Wall:
Two BARGHEST pups're in way over their heads and, of course, who else but V to the rescue? I always had a soft spot for tragedies and this one's already got me hooked. You're taking this gig - end of discussion. Think you can pull them outta this shitshow? Got my fingers half-crossed.
No Easy Way Out (not finished this one yet):
Look, V. This Aaron choom is a big-handed bastard who knows how to handle himself in hot water. Sure, we gotta help each other out and all that, but watch your back. You're about to walk into the lion's den. I know you're all about helping lost souls and walking elderly ladies across the street, but please, PLEASE don't get killed assisting some lesser Dogtown boxer.
With Balls to the Wall, he does say "oh, V..." in that way of his when she takes the hallucinogen, which I think is more about the drugs then the helping given the journal entry, an interesting bit.

The more I think about it the more I am genuinely shocked that we still don't have a fully open world rpg style Walking Dead game (I mean hell even Pokemon got that eventually).Imagine it set within the same universe as the tv show unlike the Telltale games which is set in the comics universe. It would be fun to say explore a huge region of America not featured in either the games or the show yet and give the player the option to explore buildings, maybe allow for different survivalist builds, while having a few different hostile factions to face off against maybe with a handful of small big bads with their own narratives, maybe explore and find different optional survivors to add to your personal group/camp as you explore the map...I'm just saying the potential of a game like this could be a genuinely awesome, massive and immensly fun concept if it was given to the right developers 🤷♂️.

The Art of Storytelling in Game Development
Storytelling is one of the most powerful tools in game development. Unlike movies or books, games provide an interactive experience where players actively shape the narrative. Effective storytelling can elevate a game from a simple pastime to an unforgettable journey. In this post, we’ll explore how storytelling is woven into game development and the key elements that make for compelling narratives.

The Role of Story in Games
A strong narrative can transform the player’s experience, giving them a sense of purpose, emotional engagement, and immersion. The story isn’t just the backdrop; it’s integral to the gameplay. Whether it’s a complex RPG like The Witcher 3 or a minimalist indie title like Journey, a well-crafted story enriches the game world, making it feel alive and meaningful.
1. Creating Relatable Characters
At the core of any great story is memorable, well-developed characters. In game development, characters are more than just avatars—they are the lens through which the player experiences the world. A compelling protagonist, intriguing antagonists, and supporting characters all contribute to a layered narrative. Their motivations, growth, and struggles should resonate with players on an emotional level.
For instance, games like The Last of Us use character-driven storytelling to connect players with the plot. Joel and Ellie’s emotional bond drives the game’s narrative, making the stakes personal.
2. World-Building: Crafting Immersive Environments
Storytelling in games goes beyond just dialogue and plot twists; it’s about creating an immersive world that feels rich with history and meaning. World-building involves designing environments that reflect the story, culture, and lore of your game’s universe.
The environments should reinforce the tone of the story. For example, post-apocalyptic settings in games like Fallout or The Walking Dead aren’t just backdrops—they communicate the decay of civilization, making every action and decision feel more consequential.
3. Interactive Storytelling: Player Choices
One of the defining features of game development is the ability to allow players to influence the narrative. Game development gives players the agency to make choices that can shape the outcome of the story. Games like Mass Effect and Detroit: Become Human feature branching narratives where players’ decisions affect relationships, plot developments, and even the game’s ending.
Interactive storytelling encourages players to engage with the world and characters, offering a sense of ownership over the narrative.
4. The Power of Pacing
Good pacing is essential for keeping players invested in the story. Too much action without breaks can overwhelm players, while long stretches of dialogue or exploration can cause boredom. The key is balancing moments of tension with moments of relief, allowing the player to absorb the story and reflect on their decisions.
In games like Red Dead Redemption 2, the pacing is carefully crafted, with moments of action interspersed with introspective scenes and meaningful conversations.
5. Emotional Engagement
The most memorable stories in games are those that leave a lasting emotional impact. Whether it’s the heart-wrenching goodbye in The Last of Us or the bittersweet ending of Undertale, players should feel invested in the characters and their journey. Games have the unique ability to evoke emotions by putting players in situations where their decisions directly affect the outcome.
Effective emotional engagement can lead to a more immersive experience, encouraging players to think critically about their actions and the world around them.
Storytelling in game development is a dynamic and multifaceted art form. From characters and world-building to interactive choices and emotional depth, every element must work together to create an unforgettable narrative. By understanding the power of storytelling, developers can craft experiences that resonate with players long after they’ve finished the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 : Nightmare Nurse(s)
Overview:
Baldur's Gate 3 is a party-based and story-rich RPG that's set within the universe of DnD (Dungeons & Dragons). In this game you and your companions embark on journey to find a cure to a mind-flaying tadpole that threatens to turn you, the protagonist, into a tentacled beast.
youtube
The characters that have intrigued me from this game for my project are the nightmare nurses, as I'm not all too sure what their story is and what they do but they give me silent hill vibes.
youtube
The nurses reside in a place known as the House of Healing, where they live as a sisterhood working under Doctor Malus Thorm. When encountering one of the nurses we see they all similar wear a head piece that covers almost their hold head leaving their nose and mouth exposed, along with very tethered and worn garments; this in my opinion makes them resemble a nun. The irony of that though is that these 'sisters' do not save people, in fact they do more harm than good as you see one of them tend to a dead body thinking it's still alive.
What makes them more interesting to me is the fact that they are all very soft spoken and gentle with their words, similar to a nun who nurtures and cares for the weak and vulnerable. However, when they walk or move they resemble zombies or the undead (makes sense as they are known as the undead nurses).
