OMITB S4:E10 “My Best Friend’s Wedding”
I’ve just got four words to summarize my thoughts on this episode: I love this show! Despite a season full of some predictable moments this episode still managed to deliver jaw dropping twists and reminded us of why we love the trio and The Arconia so much. I honestly don’t know where to start but I guess I should start my recap with the killer?
The answer really was that simple wow 😭 I’ve got to give the writers their props because although I did suspect it took a stuntman to jump on the windowsill like that, I never would have guessed the twist about climbing around the building on the ledge 🫢 Marshall is actually really agile for someone who only had one stunt role but I guess we can also attribute that to his backstory as a hunter and excellent marksman. Shoutout to those of you who honed in on the fact that he has 20/20 vision. I thought it was really cool that Rudy and Vince did their best to help save Mabel and I hope that Charles continues to be friends with them because he’ll need friends when Oliver spends half of his time in New Zealand.
Speaking of New Zealand, I am so glad the writers just gave her an open ending because they had me scared the whole episode that Loretta was going to be killed off 😭 When he told her in the courtyard to wait in his apartment I was so sure that would be the end of her omg. And then when she was late to walk down the aisle I was thinking “IKYFL”. I was annoyed at the silly conflict the writers came up with but I am so glad that they let those two have a beautiful, murder free wedding. I know murders happen at the drop of a hat but this time I expected another time jump or something. Also there were theories of Gravey digging up some bodies in the yard and I was really looking forward to it. I have a feeling that may be a plot point next season because we still don’t know what happened to Nicky. For all we know his wife is behind it all. Wouldn’t that be a twist? A woman killing her husband and hiring detectives to solve the case but pinning it on someone else? Also in the subreddit someone brought up the fact that Lester was mentioned or seen taking care of dry cleaning at some point so that’s one link to all of this. And with Teddy having his own criminal activity going on do we think he had a hand in some of these dealings as well? 👀 If so I hope that this means we get Theo fully on board because his snooping around for jewelry definitely has to come back into play now. There’s no telling what he may have seen and not realized in the apartments.
I still can’t believe Lester is dead. I really thought he was the mastermind behind everything but it looks like the real mastermind got to him 😩 Nicky’s wife said that he has everything to do with the building so it would be a wild plot twist if he himself was the mastermind and that’s how hes been pulling the strings. Maybe Lester was working for him and relayed info to him as well as put in the cameras because he had access. I mentioned in my recap for episode 6 that with Lester experiencing homelessness at some point he must have encountered some interesting people. If he needed a quick buck he very well might have had a brief stint as a henchman who didn’t ask any questions. Idk I don’t think Nicky is dead and he’s my number one suspect now because his mob ties would definitely allow him to tamper with police evidence. If it turned out he dated Jan at some point too I would not be the least bit surprised.
I wouldn’t say I was a fan of Jan despite finding her really funny, but after this episode she has become a new favorite. The way that she said weeks ago that she doesn’t prefer a sniper like kill but took out Marshall the same way that he took out Sazz?!
The fact that she’s just been chilling in the passageways and Charles’ apartment the whole time is hilarious and Charles is so oblivious that he wouldn’t think much of it if she did accidentally leave some clues behind. I don’t know if they’re endgame like she says but I do love the sexual tension. I wasn’t into the Sherlock series but that’s his dynamic with Irene Adler right?
While most of my predictions did not come true, I was right about Eva’s device coming into play to help save Mabel from Marshall 😂 And I really love that things that were wanted occurred like bringing back Will and that he also walked Loretta down the aisle with Dickie. I hope they become close buds. I also said last week that I would love to see Winnie as the ring bearer and they did not disappoint! 🥺 Uma screaming because she thought she saw a roach was so on brand and I feel like she did it just to cause some drama 🤭 I think deep down she likes the trio especially since she sent the elevator back down for Charles and Mabel after the wedding.
This season has been so much fun and I’m glad to see the show that we all love come back even better than ever. I can’t wait for season five!

'I Don't Bite' S1.Ch05: Who Are You?
Summary: Sam and Dean leave on their next hunt, leaving the reader alone to deal with some new surprises... Referenced Episodes: Mentioned S1 E10 "Asylum" CW: Gore (character gets shot). Word Count: 6586 Recommended Song: The Boxer -- Simon & Garfunkel Previous Chapter -- Masterlist -- Next Chapter
The brothers had agreed to take me home, much to my discontent. I knew they were eager to get on their way and continue their search for their father, and I didn’t want to get in the way of that. I didn’t want to be more bothersome than I already felt I was, especially now that I knew what their goal was. The brothers stubbornly refused.
So I pouted in the back seat, fur thoroughly ruffled from frustration. I couldn't help but feel that maybe they didn't trust me to go alone.
Sam had gently tried to drag me into the conversation between the brothers more than a few times. I talked with them for a few minutes before fading into the background. The boys would continue their banter and I listened with amusement, only for one or both of them to realize I had distanced myself again and try to pull me back in.
I tried not to pry, despite wanting to ask questions. Dean was still sour over the event of their mother's death, even twenty-two years later, and I really didn't want to push him. He was already reluctant to involve me in any of their business. I knew too much already. I wondered what it was that had killed their mother – I didn't know of any monsters that could have done something like that, although my knowledge was fairly limited to the average monsters. My uncle had taught me plenty about them, but demons and poltergeists were far above his pay grade.
I struggled with the idea of God and the afterlife. It made no sense – but, then again, neither did monsters. But, hearing about Sam's visions and their mother's death... I couldn't help but wonder if maybe I was wrong about the whole God thing too, and maybe everything else I thought I knew.
I scowled at the memory of an unfamiliar voice whispering in my ear, deep in the woods. What was that? Just another ghost? A delusion? Some higher being?
"What do you think?" came Sam's questioning voice. I jarred in my seat, nearly smacking my head against the window that I had been staring out of for what felt like hours. In reality, I had been in my own world for about twenty.
I snapped out of my thoughts and turned to the younger Winchester. "What do I think about what?"
Sam chuckled softly before reopening his laptop. I waited patiently as he searched for whatever he wanted to show me. Dean side-eyed him, his jaw set in a scowl. The younger Winchester finally managed to pull up an article and show it to me. It was a short article about a murder-suicide in some city in Illinois. Local police officer lost his mind and shot his wife, then himself. I passed the laptop back to Sam with a scowl. “What about it?”
“Could be a case,” Dean offered with a shrug. “We, uh… got a tip off earlier. Some coordinates, to this town.”
“Or it could just be a murder suicide. Did you want my opinion, or-?”
"Not really," Dean answered, his expression in the rearview mirror stoney. "Sam doesn't think it's worth it-"
"This doesn’t look like a case to me, Dean," Sam spoke up, glaring at his brother. "It’s just-"
"It’s Dad," countered Dean. "The cop rocked up to an asylum before shooting his wife, and you’re telling me it’s nothing? It’s not nothing to him – I mean, come on, Sam, he was right about her,” he said, gesturing over his shoulder at me. My lips parted in curiosity. “I say we check it out ourselves and finish anything before it starts."
Their father sent them the coordinates? Was that how they found me?
Sam sighed and rubbed the side of his face out of frustration. Dean clung to the steering wheel with one hand, knuckles white. The two brothers sat in silence for a few uncomfortable moments before Sam turned back to me, my eyes quickly shifting between the two brothers.
"So, what do you think?"
I paused to gather my thoughts, mulling it over in my mind before looking back up at an expectant Sam. "I think you should go."
"What?" Sam asked, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. He sat back in his seat and scoffed. "Why?"
"I mean… You said it’s your dad, right? Could be something. Besides, it’s not like checking it out’ll do any harm." I looked at the rear view mirror to see Dean already watching me, a triumphant look plastered on his features.
"Great!" he said, his voice dripping with smugness. "Looks like we're going to Illinoir after dropping you off.” He nudged Sam with his elbow with a pleased grin.
"Or," I retorted, "you could just let me run back."
At that, Dean’s smug smile dropped. His gaze in the rearview mirror was suddenly stern. "There's no way you could run back in the time it takes us to drive you. We're like three and a half hours away."
"Why would I want to spend three more hours with you, when I can run it in five, maybe six?" I teased, earning an eye roll from him.
"There's no way you can run that fast," he challenged. I glared right back.
"Do you have any idea how fast wolves can run?"
"You're not a wolf."
"Close enough to one to beat you in a race."
The heated stares continued, only breaking it occasionally for Dean to look at the road again. The longer it continued, the more my smirk widened, watching him slowly crumble with curiosity. He growled in irritation before slowing the car down and angling towards the side of the road. I internally yipped with excitement and shot him a warm smile.
As soon as the car had come to a stop, I was out the door and making my way towards the trunk. I only brought a small backpack with me, all of my own weapons aside from a single knife and gun left at home. This one was tailored to fit to my back, even in my canine form.
Dean rolled down the driver-side window of the Impala and called out to me. I hurriedly grabbed my bag and stood beside the open window. "You know the way back to your place, right?" he confirmed, worry dancing in his eyes. I gave him a reassuring smile.
"Course I do. It's not far, and I know this road well. I'll follow it all the way back."
Sam leaned forward so I could see him from my place by the window. "Text us when you get there, alright?" He smiled warmly at me, not a hint of concern in his voice. My chest swelled with pride, knowing that he trusted me. Before Sam and Dean and my new pack members, my uncle had been the only one to fully trust me. Not even my parents – although their distrust was warranted.
"Sure thing, Sammy!" I chirped elatedly, offering a little wave. Dean's brows furrowed more at the nickname and Sam chuckled, elbowing his brother jokingly. "I'll see you boys later!" I said cheerfully, swinging the bag onto my shoulders. And with that I was off, taking a few running steps before leaping into my fur. I launched forward into a dead sprint before my paws had scarcely touched the road. I turned and angled off the road, running just off to the side of it, cast in the shadows of the treeline.
I heard the purr of the Impala's engine behind me and yipped in delight, extending my stride. The boys would be on the same road as me for the next hour, roughly, before they would turn left towards Illinois. In the meantime, I’d show them just how fast I could be.
Eat my dust, boys.
I heard Dean floor the accelerator, but it wouldn't help him now. As soon as I felt the rush of competition, a challenge, I knew he wouldn’t catch me. All my fears, worries and insecurities flew out the window for a few blissful moments.
I held my pace despite my limbs already aching and my lungs longing for air. The pace was almost dizzying. My paws felt like they were barely touching the ground, like I was almost running on air. I could hardly feel the bushes and tall grass raking against my dark fur. I howled as I heard the Impala slowly approaching – I could stay ahead of them for a while longer, at least until my legs gave out. I may not beat them to their turn toward Illinois, but I could damn well try.
—
I didn't beat them, much to my dismay. When Dean finally passed I managed to catch a glimpse of both their faces: Dean, looking smug and triumphant, a smirk plastered on his lips and eyebrows furrowed concentration; Sam, looking absolutely terrified, both hands on the dash as if to stabilize himself. I had yipped at them as they passed and immediately began to slow until they disappeared from view.
I padded along the side of the road, tired and only about an hour and twenty minutes from home. I planned to take the next ten to twenty minutes to catch my breath before jogging the last bit home.
The evening light was waning, with the sun halfway disappearing behind the tall trees. It would set rather quickly soon. From my current location I wouldn't be able to see the sunset. I would only see the pink clouds bursting around the trees. Disappointment filled me as I watched the sky, thinking that a beautiful sunset might be the perfect end to an otherwise beautiful day.
I watched the sun slowly set for a few minutes, letting my thoughts run rampant. A strange noise moved quietly through the woods and I jumped at the sound, hair standing on end. I peered into the woods, ears pricked for any other sounds and eyes sharp, looking for any sign of movement.
A whisper.
That was what caught my attention. I didn't think my ears could stand any higher, but upon hearing that familiar word, they did.
Come.
I froze. It was that same voice that sounded muffled and faint. I blinked rapidly, my eyes beginning to water. I felt a thin scratching sensation in the back of my mind, like a persistent itch that just wouldn’t go away. I had never felt or heard anything like this before.
See.
My determination began to crumble. I stopped and looked back towards the woods again, curiosity blooming. Was it really talking to me? What was I supposed to see? I had never experienced anything like this before, and whether it was my own imagination or one of those supernatural entities too far above my uncle’s paygrade had curiosity bubbling inside me.
With renewed determination, I began to walk into the woods.
—
I could have been home already. I walked through the woods for what felt like hours, though it was clearly just over one. The sun had dipped behind the trees and twilight was now settling around me. Every moment that I stopped walking, I could hear the woodland life come alive. Mostly frogs in all honesty – they were quite noisy. They immediately stopped their croaking when I began to move again.
I paused once more to survey my surroundings. Perhaps I was just tired and hadn't heard anything at all-
My ears pricked at the sound of voices. Not whispers like I had heard before, but actual voices belonging to actual people. Finally, something that confirmed I might not be going crazy.
I followed the source of the voices through the woods until the illumination of a house rose in the distance, shadowed between the thick trees. It was an old cabin with a rusted pickup out front. A large stack of firewood blanketed by a blue tarp leaned next to the house and an old, rickety rocking chair sat on the front porch. There were no lights on inside.
Movement out of the corner of my eye caught my attention. A shadow was moving alongside the house, but I couldn't tell quite what it was. The overhang of the roof blurred the outline. But the scent… it was oddly familiar.
A yip was heard somewhere off to my right and I turned my head to look for the sound. My eyes settled on another shape moving through the woods towards the house. It yipped again.
A light flickered on in the house, likely coming from a lamp as the glow was rather dim. I could see the silhouette of a man in the window, surveying his property. Eventually, after a few long moments he left the window, but the light stayed on.
The figure to my right had advanced towards the front porch. I saw that the first figure was now on the porch and creeping towards the door. I could now fairly clearly see what it was. A blonde canine, although I couldn't tell what kind in the haziness. It stopped on the porch and sat back on its haunches, waiting for its companion.
The pair nodded to each other when the second reached the porch. The second figure was a chocolate brown canine, much smaller than the blonde one. The brown one bumped its shoulder against the blonde's hip. The blonde growled and nodded to the door.
The darker animal stood straighter, shook out it's fur, rolled it's shoulders and-
- Turned into a man.
I watched in shock as he reached for a knife on his hip, one that I had only just noticed. I stood petrified as he reached for the handle, mind racing as to what I should do. It wasn't until he sought to turn the door handle of the unlocked door that I reacted.
I leaped forward and released a growl, skidding to a stop on a pile of dead leaves in front of the porch. The two skinwalkers turned to me and the blonde growled right back. The man who had shifted stood between the two, looking back and forth with a mixed expression of surprise and fear.
The blonde bounced forward to meet my snarl and bared his fangs. His vibrant green eyes were filled with rage.
I roared at them and took a step forward, snarling viciously and despite the lack of words it clearly communicated what I was thinking.
What the hell are you doing?
Oh God, was this a hunt? Were they planning on killing and eating this poor man? I snarled, drawing back pink gums to show pearly white fangs. Whatever the hell these two were planning, it couldn't be good.
The blonde canine snarled right back, throwing its head forward and rolling its shoulders. Seeing it up close, it looked like a mix – a wolf hybrid. It was smaller than I was, its paws only about half the size of mine.
First-generation? I asked myself. My father had told me a long time ago that the further skinwalkers strayed from their human roots, the more animalistic they got and the larger, stronger, and more wolfish they became. Despite my father telling me this, I had never seen another purebred, aside from him.
Another light flicked on in the house, catching my attention. I heard a scuffle from the second floor and my ears suddenly went high, eyes widening.
The other one had disappeared.
The flaxen wolf snarled at me, taking a step forward. His fur was littered with small scars, showing fighting experience. My eyes whipped between the door and the wolf, my mind racing. Noticing my panic, he lunged forward and nearly bowled me over with his heavy front paws. The other animal's paws collided with my shoulder, shoving me to the side and it in the opposite direction. Before it could whirl around and snap at me, I was already running through the front door.
I could feel it practically snapping at my heels as I ran through the house, winding my way through the kitchen and dining room before I finally found stairs to the second floor.
I heard a shot from one of the few rooms on the second floor. With a snarl, I raced towards the second room on the right, the door swung open and its hinges broken. There, I stopped, my eyes not believing the scene before me.
And an old man was beating my fellow skinwalker over the head with a dusty old lamp, the lampshade laying off to the side. I yipped at the old man and he turned, his eyes full of hatred and anger.
He threw the lamp.
He threw a fucking lamp at me.
I dodged, ducking out of the doorway and back into the hall, only to see the lamp hit my golden pursuer directing in the face, its green eyes widening. It yipped in shock and fright before falling head over tail.
I cautiously poked my dark nose around the door frame, hoping to avoid any other projectiles. Instead, I heard a scuffle and many colorful swear words. Leaping through the doorway yet again, I saw the skinwalker attacking the old man, who, to my surprise, was fighting back quite well. A snarl escaped my lips as my paws pounding across the creaking wooden floors, and leaped onto the back of my fellow monster, digging my teeth into his shoulder. My size nearly encased his body and pushed him over backward. I shook my head ferociously, tearing at the tendons and muscle in his broad shoulder. He screamed, and I tasted blood in my mouth.
With one final tug and a rake of my claws I jumped off his back and back onto the floor, fangs bared and ready to pounce again. I jumped suddenly and yelped, feeling harsh needles digging into my tail. I whipped around to see the blond wolf burying its teeth into my tail. With another rage-filled snarl, I smacked a heavy, clawed paw down on its face, raking down its forehead and knocking it down. It refused to let go and kept gnawing on my tail.
Bastard.
I snapped my jaws at him and spun until my teeth were sunk into the back of its neck, grabbing the scruff and yanking. It let go of my tail with a hiss, only to fly across the room into a rickety old bed. The man was nowhere to be seen now, but I could hear his feet thundering down the stairs.
I heard a growl from my left and turned to see the man I had sunk my teeth into was now once again a dog, a chocolatey colored, wiry mutt. He ran forward, completely dodging me, and out the door. I howled and gave chase, the pale wolf running right after me, almost neck and neck.
I knew I wouldn't be able to beat him down the stairs. If I tried, I'd fall and that old man would be as good as dead. The top of the stairs was in sight, and I had a wild idea. I jumped onto the other wolf's back, using him as a springboard, and fell to the floor below, a howl escaping my lips. I rolled to the side as I hit the floor and popped up, my shoulder a bit sore from the landing, but surprisingly uninjured.
I heard an explosion and immediately ducked. The old man had a shotgun now that he was firing all over the place, pellets raining down. A shot hit near my foot, shrapnel digging into my paw. I yelped as it burned through my fur and skin, feeling like hot iron being pressed into my skin.
Silver.
I looked at the old man, whose face was filled with rage, his throat raw as he screamed for blood. My eyes widened as a revelation hit me.
He's a hunter.
I shifted back at once and ducked as he trained his gun on me. I held up my hands in protest. "Wait wait!" I screamed, begging him to stop and give me enough time to speak to him. "I'm not with them! I'm here to stop them!"
The man lowered his gun for half a second to stare at me quizzically before hoisting it high once more and swinging it towards his left. From the corner of my eye, I could see a brown blur launching toward him. The old man fired and the chocolate mutt fell in a heap on the floor.
"Caeden!" I heard a man scream from behind me. I whipped around to see a man not much older than me racing towards the fallen mutt, his shaggy blond hair a tousled mess and green eyes blazing. The man, who I could only assume was the blond wolf from before, fell to his knees beside the brown dog.
The older man raised his gun again and aimed at the man.
"Wait!" I screamed, running towards him and knocking the gun to the side. The gun went off, putting a silver-filled hole in his wall.
"They tried to kill me!" he screamed back. He struggled to face the gun towards me, anguish and hatred filling his worn, brown eyes. "You'll try to kill me too!"
"I won't!" I shouted back, shaking my head. "I'm a hunter too! I'm here to help!"
"You're a monster!"
I snarled at this and pushed the barrel of the shotgun up so hard that it hit him in the jaw. With the man dazed, I elbowed him in the face, in the hopes that he would stop fighting. Bloodshot from his nose, which I likely broke, and he collapsed to the ground.
I turned sharply and marched toward the two fallen skinwalkers. Kneeling beside the injured, I shot the blond a heavy glare. He snarled and pulled his friend closer to him.
"Christ..." I whispered, seeing the bloody mess the silver had made in his friend's shirt. The blond had somehow coaxed him to shift back, and now I could clearly see the damage the silver had wrought. The man's shirt was in tatters and stained with blood and peeking through I could see the mess of his stomach, the skin flayed, burning, and raw.
"He's still breathing..." I muttered, pulling off my own thin coat and draping it across the injured mutt's stomach. "Keep pressure on it,” I ordered. He growled in response and I snapped back with a nasty snarl.
I stood and looked around the room for anything that could help. Nothing but some old rope, which I took. It was fraying on the ends, but that didn't matter, it was fairly sturdy. I huffed and walked out onto the front porch, scanning the old man's cluttered yard, full of unfinished projects and old, rusted pieces of machinery. My eyes settled on a rickety old cart filled with wood.
That could work, I thought as I jogged over to it and began pulling logs and two by fours off the small pile. Finally, when the cart was empty, I drug it towards the front porch.
"Hey!" I called, cupping my hands around my mouth. A straw-colored head poked out from around the door. "Get him in here, we can drag him back to my place and fix him up." He snarled and didn't move. I growled low in the back of my throat and marched towards the front porch, peaking my head through the door. "I'm trying to help you, jackass. You just about killed a man, least you can do is prevent the death of another."
He looked up with wary eyes and huffed. "Help me get him up," he hissed, voice smooth as butter. I hissed back and went to grab his friend's legs. He snapped at me nearly every time I made a move, criticizing everything I did until we had the injured mutt in the cart.
I'm about to kill this bitch.
I took up one end of the rope, the other tightly wound to the front of the cart. He glared warily as I began to wrap it around my waist. I paused and glared right back. "Do you want to drag him?" I dropped his gaze, a sour expression on his face.
I shifted for what felt like the umpteenth time that evening, my rough paws hitting the soft ground. I shook my fur out and inhaled deeply, taking in the cool night air.
Vanilla.
The strong, sickly sweet smell of vanilla hit my nose. I looked from the corner of my eye to my newfound companion, his own nose raised in the air and green eyes closed softly. He glanced my way, green eyes crisp with suspicion and anger. I opened my mouth slightly, prepared to say something, only to remember my flaccid tongue wasn't capable of speech.
Communicating with other skinwalkers was not my forte.
He snorted and stalked away from me. I growled and trotted past him, in the direction of home.
—
I could practically smell them now, my pack. I nearly yipped with joy - it felt like so long, although it had only been a few days. My pace quickened, nearly running at this point and the blond stayed by my side, still scowling, but looking rather relieved that it seemed we were nearing our destination.
His friend still hadn't awoken. Granted, it was less than an hour's run, but I was beginning to worry.
We broke through the tree line and I was now running at a dead sprint towards my home. I howled as I ran and heard a distinct howl back. The front door slammed open and Booth raced out, Sasha just behind him. Booth halted for half a second, seeing a strange wolf and myself pulling a rather old cart. The moment passed and he sprinted towards me, skidding to a halt beside me.
I shifted back, my bones crunching rather loudly as they rearranged, my fur receding and leaving a prickly sensation behind.
"Sasha, go back in the house. Find all the medical equipment you can – I should have a medical kit in the linen closet near the laundry room." She nodded hastily and ran back the way she had come. I turned to Booth, his blue eyes seething as they landed on the blond beside me.
"Who the fuck is he?"
"That's not important, Booth," I snapped back. I had wondered that myself, but now was not the time. "Help me get this guy in the house." His eyes shifted between the two of us, seething, another question clearly on the tip of his tongue. He dropped his gaze and made his way to the injured man in the cart, delicately grabbing the man's upper body under his arms. I reached for his legs and looked at the strange man. To my surprise, he looked frightened. "Keep the coat on his stomach. I don't want anything sliding out when we move him." Both men visibly paled.
With some work, we managed to make it into the house. Sasha and Andrew were frantically racing around the room, grabbing anything remotely useful and depositing it in the kitchen.
"Blondie, go clear the table." He glared and marched over, shoving everything he could off my dining table. I flinched as I heard the pepper shaker hit the floor with a crack. Booth and I carried the injured man to the table and gently placed him down.
"Careful with the coat, his blood could have clotted by now. We don't want to reopen the wound."
"What happened to him?" Sasha demanded, frenzied.
"He got shot. Silver. It was his own fault," I uttered harshly, looking pointedly at his companion. He snarled in response, his eyes glowing a brighter green, his wolf right on the surface. I held his gaze for a few moments before we both looked away, my attention returning to the man now on my table.
Booth gently pulled back the coat, revealing the man's stomach to be littered with small entry holes, the skin flayed and burnt.
It was going to be a long night.
—
It was early morning by the time we finished. We had situated the injured man in my guest room, under my loft. Sasha and Andrew had turned in close to the end of our makeshift surgery, both exhausted from the night's events. Booth had offered to stay with me in the main house, but I refused.
I leaned against the porch railing, my eyes on the stars above. They were so vibrant tonight. I spent my time picking out various constellations, delighted when I finally found one.
My phone buzzed in my back pocket. I reached for it and flipped the screen open.
13 missed messages. 2 missed calls. I chuckled. I almost expected more.
I did have more messages than I expected from Sam. Nine. I had expected Dean to be the overprotective mother hen. I chuckled, seeing his short string of messages.
Did you make it home safe? Are you there yet?Are you alright?Did something happen?Dean's getting worried.Call me when you get this.
I smiled and quickly texted back. I hoped the boys would be asleep by now. You never know though - they seemed to be raging insomniacs.
I'm fine. Ran into a little trouble along the way. Nothing I couldn't handle. Everyone's safe.
I checked Dean's messages next and only found four.
Sam's freaking out. Call us when you get home safe. That was the gist of it.
I'll call you in the morning. I replied, yawning slightly. It was late. I didn't want to wake them. I stretched and rolled my shoulders and shut the phone screen.
"Trouble in paradise?" I heard a condescending voice from behind me, tight with tension. I looked behind me to find the blond man leaning in the doorway, his hair tousled and eyes squinting, riddled with sleeplessness. His shirt was loose on his thin frame – too thin, as if they hadn’t eaten a proper meal in quite a while. His shoulders were tense despite the relaxed posture he tried to convey. On edge. Nervous. Overcompensating.
"It was just a few friends, asking if I'm OK," I answered curtly, turning away from him. I heard the porch creak under his feet as he moved to stand beside me, leaning on the railing. There was silence. I was almost relieved that he chose not to say anything more. This man made my fur stand on end – he seemed almost… arrogant. But perhaps that was just a facade, just like his feigned relaxation and self-confidence.
"That was supposed to be our kill, you know. Been planning his death for months. Took us ages to track him down," he finally said, eyes never leaving the tree line as spite dripped into his tone. He gritted his teeth, grinding the words out slowly. I lifted one brow as I waited for him to continue. "... Thank you. My… friend would have died without your help."
I didn't answer for a few moments. I turned to the side, leaning against the railing and staring at him. "What were you doing so close to my territory?" I finally settled on, leveling him with a steady, firm gaze. At this, the facade finally slipped and surprise coated his features. He furrowed his brows in confusion and turned to face me, green eyes radiant.
"This is Chikaltio's territory."
"I killed Chikaltio," I answered bluntly, narrowing my eyes at the man. If this man knew Chikaltio, there was a chance they were allies. Clearly he had no qualms with invading his territory without permission. Allies might not be such a stretch.
Surprise rippled across his features. Our eyes locked and I could practically see the gears turning in his head. I waited patiently for his response, finally inspecting him now that I had the chance. He had somewhat long, pale hair, a bit longer than Sam's was. It was just as messy, if not more so than the youngest Winchester. He had a rather well-defined jaw and piercing green eyes flecked with gold. His nose and cheeks were dotted with freckles that looked like they had appeared more from extended periods in the sun than naturally. He looked like one of those guys that were constantly smirking, one eyebrow raised, almost daring you to hit him.
"He's dead?"
"Yep," I said, popping the 'p'. The man stared for several moments before his lips spread into a wide grin. A snort escaped him and his hand flew up to cover his mouth, stifling a flood of giggles. "What the hell is so funny?"
"Thank God someone finally took that bastard down a peg – he had it coming. I figured it would be someone from his pack though, not some rando. Someone like that Booth guy."
"You know Booth?"
"I've seen him around. I used to know Chikaltio,” he said with a shrug, spinning to prop himself against the porch railing on his elbows. “Not well, but he'd let us pass through every now and again. Not sure how that mongrel managed to stay in control when he had someone like Booth in his pack."
I glared at him. The fact that he knew Chikaltio and hadn't done anything to stop him made my blood boil. "Why didn't you do anything? He was killing people."
"Don’t we all?” he asked with a raised brow. I shook my head slowly and he hummed thoughtfully. “One of those, then.” He sighed dramatically and turned his gaze away from me. “Caeden and I just want to be left alone – kind of hard to do that when you're on some batshit alpha’s bad side." My expression softened at that, knowing just what he meant. “Only way to stop a guy like that from killing people is to take care of him yourself. But that means taking on a pack, and more mouths to feed. Can hardly feel ourselves.”
I frowned at his words, turning my gaze from him. “Don’t I know it,” I finally murmured, musing over the end to Chikaltio’s reign. “I never wanted the position either. Only stopped him because I wanted to be left alone too..”
He scoffed. "Oh yeah. I'm sure you were by yourself a lot," he said with a teasing lilt. I snapped my eyes towards him, lips twitching up in a grimace. He rolled his shoulders under my harsh gaze and faced forward once more. "What makes you care so much about humans? You aren't one, clearly never have been." My eyes widened at this, turning fully to face him. The blond rolled his eyes and waved away my shock as if it were nothing. "Oh please, it’s not exactly hard to spot another pureblood. No normal skinwalker looks like that."
"Are you first generation?" I asked tentatively, my voice lowering.
"Course, aren't you? Isn't that, like, the only generation?"
"No," I answered quietly. "I'm third."
I could see his mind trying to grasp what I had just said. His eyes widened and he let out an impressed whistle as it finally hit him. "Well, I guess that would explain why you're so much bigger than me. Furrier too." I narrowed my eyes. "How'd you manage to make it past first? Never seen anyone that pure."
"My dad was second generation."
"What about your mom?"
I paused, glancing warily at him. "She was a hunter. Turned on a case."
He tsked and turned away from me again. “Hunters…” he cursed on his breath. A heavy silence sat between us for some time. I could tell he was mulling it over in his head, not sure what to say next. "How'd that work out for her?" he finally settled on.
I shrugged and turned to face the lawn, staring off into the tree row. "She met my father at some point. They fell in love, I guess, and he taught her how to… avoid eating people. She stayed close to her family, even though she wasn't human anymore."
"You don't seem to care very much about her."
"I do care, it's just..." I turned back to face him. "We were never very close. She died when I was sixteen."
He was quiet again, staring out at the small meadow and into the trees. For the first time during that conversation, genuine emotion filled his gaze. He looked sorrowful as his grip on the rail tightened subtly. "I'm sorry. Can’t say I’ve lost any family, but Caeden has," he said with a tip of his head toward the front door.
I surveyed him for a moment, taking in what little I could see of the world he was lost in. "It was her own fault,” I finally answered quietly. “She went berserk. Killed a few humans."
"Oh," he answered, sighing. "So a hunter put her down?"
I nodded. "My uncle."
He swore under his breath and shook his head. "Talk about family drama."
"No more nuts than anything anyone else goes through." He chuckled lightly in response. "I hope you understand you're going to have to stay here for a while," I said hastily, changing the subject. I didn't like talking about my parents, and I could tell he didn’t want to pry more than necessary. For once, we found common ground. "Your friend, Caeden, he's going to need some time to heal. Granted, he'll heal faster than a human, but the silver really doesn't help his case. And, well… we try to stay clean."
"Trust me, we'll be out of your hair as soon as we can be," he responded with a hint of amusement in his voice. "It'll be a pain while we're here, not having any of the good stuff to eat." I scoffed and he smirked, knowing he had hit a nerve. "Oh come on, you've really never eaten a human heart? So much better than an animal."
I glared at him, the golden eyes of my wolfish form coming forward. His eyes widened and his smirk grew, showing sharp canines.
"Oh my God," he whispered. "You have, haven't you?" He paced towards me and I stood my ground, consciously trying not to waiver. He was pushing, seeing how far he could needle without me lashing out. Testing the bounds of my authority in my own home. "Who was it? Who'd you kill?"
For the first time that evening, I cracked. The man seemed to delight in it, finally knowing that my buttons could be pushed. "Fuck off," I snapped and marched towards my front door. "I want you out of my house as soon as possible."
"Hey, alpha," he called. My ears pricked and I stopped in the doorway, refusing to turn and look at him.
"Be careful with those human friends of yours. I could smell them on you as soon as I saw you," his voice lowered, almost like a warning. "I'm sure you don't want them getting hurt."
I whipped around, jaw clenched and ready to tear him to shreds. He leaned against the railing, his back against it and a cool smile resting on his face. His eyes, however, told a different story - his eyes were full of hidden fury and distrust, but… none of the hunger that Chikaltio and his gang retained.
Was he bluffing? I didn’t want to find out.
"Good night," he said quietly before turning from me and stepping off my porch, headed in the direction of the bunkhouse.

Favorite Sebaciel Moments: Part 3
You can see the first 10 favorite moments here and moments 11-21 here.
22) Jealous Sebastian in E10, with Ciel looking like he knows what’s going on and enjoying it.
Other tiny moments from this episode: Sebastian making tea for Grell because he compulsively needs the routine he had with Ciel; protecting Grell by thrusting an arm forward, the way he did it with Ciel so often and needing to create this illusion for himself.
23) Everything about E12. Sebastian hesitating, unable to kill Ciel before he wakes up. He basically allows Ciel to become a demon. He was told clearly that the moment Ciel wakes up, he’ll do it soulless. Rather than killing him on sight, Sebastian cradles him in his arms and waits. He attacks afterward, when it can’t actually hurt Ciel. Instead of killing him anyway, Sebastian goes along with the charade and keeps doing his butler duties. Demons can kill their masters without serious repercussions, we saw that on the example of Claude and Alois. Sebastian has every right to kill Ciel - more than that, he’s in direct proximity to the sword that can help him with this. And yet, he stays.
Ciel acts like he’s in control, Sebastian acts like he has to obey him, but they both know it’s a charade. It’s so palpable in the moment where they follow all parts of their morning ritual: Sebastian filters the imagined tea and Ciel pretends to drink it.
They try to stick to their routine desperately because they feel lost, confused, and scared. Ciel knows what could happen to him any moment - he saw what became of Alois. Sebastian knows he doesn’t have to do anything anymore, but he can’t bring himself to kill Ciel to terminate their bond. He can’t face the idea of being invested in someone so much either, though, because this is it - he told himself countless excuses before to prolong the contract, but now there are no lies left. So he’s miserable and lost, going through motions and unable to make a decision, incapable of admitting he needs Ciel yet equally incapable of killing him. It’s such an open ending, but I find it extremely beautiful.
The very final scene is mesmerizing, from the colors to the fact that Ciel and Sebastian head toward eternity together.
24) Ciel in Wonderland ending (it’s a very weird but precious OVA. If you’re interested, here’s how I see it.) Ciel comes to the realization of his identity and swears he’ll always be himself no matter what: Sebastian saves him and looks at him with so much affection, it’s killing me. So lovely.

Alone Time
Alone Time
Pairings: Malcolm Bright/Reader
Request: Anon said: “Ohhh! If you are still doing Malcolm Bright one shots could you do one where the reader was in the house with Jessica and Ainsley from the last episode ?? You are the best!”
Reader Gender: Gender Neutral
CW: Descriptions of panic/fear, stabbing someone with scissors, everything the episode contains – violence, serial killer trying to kill you, injuries, etc.
Word Count: 3,189
Summary: You are distraught with Malcolm’s disappearance, so you go to Jessica’s house for some comfort. Turns out that was a bad idea.
A/N: Apologies for having to wait so long. I’m so happy to finally get this request finished. Thank you for being so patient.
S1, E10-12 (mostly E11)
Masterlist
You were nervous about your first Christmas dinner with the Whitly’s. Jessica already liked you, but you were still nervous. Malcolm’s family meant so much to him and you wanted nothing more for the dinner to go well.
You’d arrived at the Whitly’s house punctually. There were dozens of paparazzi gathered around the front door, and you had to fight your way through them. Malcolm wasn’t with you – he had a case – but he said he would meet you there. He made a promise that he would actually be there. A promise that he wouldn’t cancel like he had for your past several dates. Ainsley had already come and gone, so the family dinner was canceled. Still, Jessica offered to let you stay until Malcolm arrived.
But as the hours passed, and he didn’t show, you couldn’t help but grow more worried. Malcolm was known to get in trouble and when he didn’t show up without a word, that normally meant he was in some sort of trouble with his case. You drank the last of your drink and excused yourself from the living room.
You called Malcolm.
“Hey, Mal. Uh, I know you’re probably just wrapped up in a case or something, but you know I worry. So, please just call me and let me know what’s going on?” You paused, sighed, and ran a hand through your hair. “I’m heading home. Please don’t work too late. Love you.”
You hung up and sighed. So much for a nice Christmas dinner.
The next day, Gil was at your door. Still no Malcolm. The anxiety in your chest spiked. Whatever it was wasn’t good.
He sat you down on the couch and gently gripped your hand. “Malcolm’s been taken by the Junkyard Killer.” He said carefully. You gasped. Time froze and you forgot how to breathe, just for a split second. Fear crashed over you like a heart-stopping wave, shaking your whole body as it rose in your chest.
“No…” You whispered with disbelief. It couldn’t be true. Nothing this bad had ever happened before. It was always stupid things, reckless things – sure, they landed him in the hospital, but they were never…this. It almost felt like your world was crashing around you. Knowing that someone you love is in the hands of a serial killer with a vendetta against you. There were no words to describe the panic, fear, and worry that sat in your chest. “How long?” You finally managed.
“Almost 12 hours,” Gil replied. You took a short breath and nodded. Alright. It hadn’t been long. He was probably still alive. It was Malcolm. He knew what he was doing. Right?
Gil – clearly being able to see how much shock you were in – gently rubbed your arm. “Let me take you to Jessica’s, okay?”
You let out a short breath and nodded. “Okay.” You breathed.
Gil led you through the pack of reporters. Cameras flashed in every direction as they yelled questions at you. Once inside, you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. One of Jessica’s assistants met you in the foyer and led you into the dining room.
“Mrs. Whitly will be with you in a moment.” She said before leaving. You gave her a grateful smile as she passed you. Gil stepped further into the room.
Jessica was on the phone. There were several people around the table working. As grateful as you are about her finally believing Malcolm about the girl in the box, her methods were always a bit over-the-top, so to speak. She looked over at you and raised her finger telling you to give her a minute.
“That is disgusting.” She glowered and hung up. She huffed. “Men like that make me wonder if giving my phone number to half the world was a bad idea.” She said as she walked over to the two of you. “Though I suppose it is slightly flattering.”
“You should send everybody home,” Gil said. You fiddled with your fingers. You’d been stressed beyond belief since Gil told you – obviously – and you were about five steps off a breakdown.
“Gil, I know you’re angry, but if I want to keep Martin away from this family for good, I need enough evidence for a new murder charge.”
“Send them home.” He insisted.
“Sir, yes, sir.” She nodded before turning around. “Thank you, everyone. We will reconvene tomorrow morning.” Everyone packed up their things. “And we will be dressed business casual, Leonard. Vests are for valets.”
Once they’d all gone, Gil guided you and Jessica over to the chairs. “Let’s sit down.” Jessica stayed standing, but you took the chance to sit and steady yourself. “It’s about Malcolm.”
Jessica’s face immediately fell as those words left Gil’s lips. “What’s happened?”
“He’s been taken,” Gil replied quickly. “By the Junkyard Killer, John Watkins.”
Jessica backed up in shock and gasped. “No. No… No… N…” She stepped back and turned around, but quickly came back as the thought hit her. “Is it because I went on TV? I provoked him.”
“That’s not what happened, Jess.” Gil quickly reassured her. “Malcolm found Watkins on his own. But we will get him back.”
“What am I supposed to do? I’m not going to sit here.”
“I know. I know.” He picked up the evidence folder. “There is something you can do to help us. Martin knew Watkins years ago. Malcolm may have, too. We pulled these photos from Watkins’ home.” He flipped the file open on the table. The page was covered in pictures with scratched-out faces. “Maybe there’s someone or something you’ll recognize. Uh, anything could help. And Jessica,” Her head shot up, “if any of this gets leaked to the press…”
“I understand.” She paused and looked back down. “But… all of this? Gil, this is a world I know nothing about. The man you need to speak with is locked in solitary.”
“Yeah, I got a friend in the FBI who’s working on that. I’m going to visit The Surgeon.”
“Well, you can kill that son-of-a-bitch for all I care. Just find my son.” Gil nodded at her request. There was a moment between the two of them – so slight you barely caught it – before it was interrupted by Gil’s phone rang and he rushed out with an apology.
“If you don’t mind,” You spoke for the first time since arriving, “I’d like to stay.” Jessica looked over at you. “I won’t be much help, but I can’t be alone at the apartment right now.”
“Of course,” she replied softly, “Stay. I’ll text Ainsley. She should know, too.”
Ainsley’s voice echoed through the house. “Hello?” You looked up from your spot at the table. A file was laid out in front of you. You felt almost numb. Your chest was tight with fear and worry.
“Mom?” Ainsley called as she walked in.
“Hey, Ainsley.” You said softly, looking back at her.
“Y/N? What’s going on.” She asked.
“In a minute… Just, come here.” You motioned her over to the open file.
She leaned over next to you. The photos of the Junkyard Killer’s photo album, with the faces scratched out of every picture, were almost seared into your brain at this point. If only there was a lead… Jessica walked in, breaking you from the spiral you were about to go down.
“What’s going on? What’s all this?” Ainsley asked.
Jessica sighed and took a moment of pause. “Your brother is missing.”
“Missing?” She repeated, looking taken aback.
“Taken by the Junkyard Killer.” You said, getting out of your chair, dragging a hand over your face, and beginning to pace.
“I…” Ainsley stuttered, “I don’t understand. He’s been kidnapped? How is that possible?”
“It is possible” Jessica responded in an exasperated, almost angry tone, “because you and your brother have made it your livelihoods to obsess over your father’s past.” She walked closer to Ainsley.
“Stop.” Jessica paused. “Is that really why you asked me here?”
“No.” Jessica whispered, her face twisted in anguish. “But we can’t just sit here, wondering if he’s ever going to come back.” She rushed, “God, hug me, for God’s sake.”
Ainsley pulled her into her arms. “Um… It’s okay…” She tried to comfort, “I mean, it’s not okay, but it will be.” She pulled back from the hug and looked at her mother. “Malcolm has been trained by the FBI. He confronts monsters like this every day.”
“Oh, don’t tell me that.” She paused. “But thank you.”
“So…” Ainsley walked over to where you were pacing, where the files sat, “what are these?”
“Pictures from the killer’s house.” You answered, walking back over to those damned pictures.
“Gil wanted me to look through those,” Jessica said as she walked over too, “see if I saw anything… relevant.”
“So they’re desperate. Maybe I can help.” Ainsley started to look through them.
“No. I promised Gil no press.”
Annoyance flickered on Ainsley’s face. “That’s not what I meant. I meant I can help by sitting here and going through creepy photos with you.”
Jessica sighed in relief. “We will need bourbon.”
You nodded and moved to sit down as she went across the room to get drinks. It couldn’t hurt. Ainsley sat down next to you and began flipping through the pages of photos. Then, suddenly, she stopped. She raised the picture up slowly, her breath unsteady and her lip quivering. The picture was of a shelf at Watkins’ house. It was covered in angels and other Christian figurines. A yellow “3” evidence marker sat next to them.
“Oh my god.” She whispered, before rushing off.
“Ainsley?”
You and Jessica followed her downstairs. She started rummaging through a box.
“It’s here somewhere. I know it.” She mumbled as she searched.
“What is it?”
“Mom, I need to tell you something.” She said.
“Now you’re scaring me.”
“Good.” She responded. “Do you remember Mr. Boots?”
“Your imaginary friend?” Jessica asked. Ainsley pulled out a turquoise trinket, then moved it aside.
“Yes. What do you remember?”
“You invented him right before they took Martin away. The child psychologists – and believe me, we had a fleet of them – said that it was perfectly normal for a girl your age,” Ainsley grabbed a green clothe and unwrapped the angel inside, “to have an imaginary friend, especially in a time of trauma.”
“How can he be imaginary if he gave me this?” She held up the angel. You gasped. It looked exactly like the picture. But how could…
“You’re confused. That figurine was from your father. It’s one of the last things he gave…” Jessica tried to reason.
“An angel? No.” Ainsley rushed for her mother to understand. “Dad got me books on Marie Curie. This? This was from Mr. Boots.” You felt dread rise into your throat. The sense of danger all too real all too quickly. Ainsley held up the photo for Jessica to see. “This photo is from John Watkins’ house. The angels… they’re… they’re just like mine. John Watkins was Mr. Boots.”
“And you didn’t tell me there was a strange man in our house?”
“No! No, because I-I-I thought… I thought he was a ghost. Because when I followed him down here to Dad’s hobby room, and- and I turned the corner, he had…”
“He disappeared.” You said at the same time. Jessica’s face dropped. “We need to go. Now.”
A noise sounded from Martin’s office. A creaking, like an old door. Your stomach dropped. Oh no. “What was that?”
Jessica peered through the doorway of Martin’s office and gasped as a door opened. “Run.”
You ran behind Jessica and Ainsley up the stairs and back to the dining room. Jessica pulled Ainsley through the room.
“Oh, my god, the Junkyard Killer’s here.” Ainsley gasped as you ran.
“You want an interview?” Jessica bit back.
The power cut out. The room grew dark in an instant. You all skid to a stop. Terror echoed in your chest. Intense fear suffocated you for a split second. Jessica ran over to the light switch and flicked it up and down. Nothing.
“Let’s go.” Ainsley grabbed her mother’s hand and you grabbed hers. You ran to the closed pocket doors. Ainsley grabbed one side, you the other, and started to pull them apart.
Then, footsteps. An ax came at Ainsley and all three of you screamed and ducked. Glass shattered. Watkins went flying through the open doors. Ainsley groaned in pain.
Your heartbeat was pounding in your ears as you stood just in time to see Jessica throw a lamp at him.
“Baby, no. I’m so sorry. Come on, we gotta go.” She whispered as she pulled Ainsley up. You pushed them ahead of you, keeping an eye on Watkins. “We got to go! We gotta go!” Jessica panicked. “Come on. Come on.” You ran after them. Watkins was just behind you.
Ainsley pushed open the primary bedroom door and you rushed inside. You shut the door behind you and locked it.
“Am I bleeding?” Ainsley asked from her position on the bed.
“Baby!” Jessica grabbed her. “Get up. Get up!” The doorknob rattled and you backed up, eyes wide as you ran behind Jessica and Ainsley. “You got to go. Get in there. Go!”
You shut the bathroom door behind you and locked the top as Jessica locked the bottom.
“Alright. Now everything’s gonna be just… fine.” She grabbed a towel and started dabbing Ainsley’s head wound. “Oh, honey. Oh. One thing you learn having kids… Aah. Head wounds bleed like crazy, but they heal so fast.”
You tuned them out, focusing only on the sound of Watkins breaking down the bedroom door. You started to rifle through the drawers of Jessica’s vanity, trying to find something, anything that was sharp and pointy. Your hands hit metal and you pulled out a pair of pink scissors. Perfect.
The bathroom door banged. “Help me move this.” You told Jessica, pulling the dressing table toward the door.
“Okay, put this… Hold this. Hold this on your head, baby.” She gave Ainsley the towel and rushed over to you. Together, you moved it in front of the door.
“Don’t worry, baby, I’ve never counted on a man to save us. And I don’t need to now!” She said as you pushed it in front of the door in the nick of time. You backed to the side just as an ax came through the door panel. You took a deep breath. You could do this.
Watkins kept chopping at the door. Wood pieces flew into the room. Jessica stood in front of Ainsley, armed with a lamp. Another deep breath. Watkins’ face peeked through the gap.
“The police are on their way, you psycho!” Jessica yelled. “Get out of my house if you want to stay alive!”
His head was pressed into the gap now. And you struck. With all the force you could manage, you stabbed the scissors into Watkins’ face and quickly pulled back. He cursed and backed up. The scissors were dripping red…
“Watkins!” Malcolm’s voice suddenly echoed through the house.
“MALCOLM!” Jessica screamed. You took a deep breath, the scissors felt heavy in your hands as you adjusted them. Just in case.
“I know you’re here. This is my house. My family.” Malcolm continued.
“Do you hear that?” Jessica taunted, “That is my son and he’s coming for you.” And as he walked away, away from you but toward Malcolm, relief and dread mixed in your chest like some weird cocktail.
The second he was gone Jessica ran back to Ainsley. She was barely conscious, but awake, nonetheless. Jessica stood up and motioned her head toward the door. You nodded and took a deep breath. Your hands shook as she opened the door.
You slid into the bedroom, Jessica just behind you armed with the lamp. A shadow came into view in the hallway. Your breath hitched. Chains rattled as the figure walked into the doorway.
“Malcolm!” Jessica gasped and walked toward him first. Your grip loosened and the scissors fell to the floor.
“You’re safe.” He whispered in relief. The terror in your chest loosened slightly. He’s okay.
She pulled him into a hug. He immediately flinched away.
“Aah! Ow. Watch the hand.” He said softly.
“What happened? Are you okay?” Jessica panicked, holding his forearms.
“I’m alive.”
He’s alive. You rushed over to him and pulled him into a delicate but desperate hug. The blood soaking through his shirt and his hiss of pain ripped you out of the moment. You pulled back and pressed your hand against his chest. “You’re hurt.” Your voice cracked.
“I’m okay.” He whispered back, wrapping his uninjured arm around you.
“Oh… Where’s Watkins? Is he…? Did you…?” Jessica suddenly asked, fear still painted on her face.
“No. But he’ll never be able to hurt us again.” Malcolm said.
Ainsley rushed in a second later. And you all hugged Malcolm. Relief rushed over like a waterfall. It was okay. He was okay. You were okay. Everyone was okay. And more importantly, you were all alive.
The days following were spent in the hospital by Malcolm’s bedside. His injuries were more severe than his normal – and that was saying something considering how often Malcolm faced near-death experiences. He was stabbed, for hell’s sake! He was almost killed… You were almost killed.
The whole thing was still so surreal. Unlike Malcolm, it wasn’t every day that you met face-to-face with a serial killer. Malcolm was normally a magnet for danger – he always put himself in unreasonable danger and was a consultant to the NYPD. Normally, you weren’t the one in danger. And neither were Jessica and Ainsley. It was probably the scariest thing you’d ever experienced. Your hands still shook days later.
But it was okay now, you reminded yourself. Malcolm was coming home from the hospital. Malcolm – and Jessica for the sake of her own sanity – had officially asked you to move in with him, regardless of the fact that you practically lived with him at that point anyway. You were currently pacing back in forth in the hall. Jessica was dropping him off soon and you couldn’t wait.
The door opened and you jerked your head to look at it. The second you saw them, you rushed over and pulled Malcolm into you, being mindful of his side. “Mal.” You breathed out. A wave of relief washed over you.
He let out a happy sigh and wrapped his arms around you to the best of his ability. His body sagged against you. “Y/N.”
“Well,” Jessica said, interrupting your moment, “it seems like you’ve got things handled from here, darling, so I’ll be off.”
You pulled back from Malcolm to look at her. “Thank you, Jessica.” She waved you off with a smile and walked out the door. You smiled and tapped his back. “Alright, let’s get you settled.”
And as you got him in bed, you felt that tightness in your chest – that’s been there since he went missing – loosen just slightly. He was okay. You reminded yourself. It would all be okay.

What are your thoughts on tua S2? Did you feel like the characters grew? What did you like? What did you not? I’m interested in your perspective. Your analysis are super thoughtful and interesting!
Aw, thanks, Anon!
Overall, I really enjoyed S2 and thought it was a solid follow-up to S1. I do have my quibbles about it, so I think (for ease of reference and because my thoughts are a little scattered today) I’ll list some of my personal highlights (in no particular order) before getting into what I didn’t like as much.
Big spoilers ahead.
Allison. I thought they handled her storyline especially well. Of all the siblings, I think she had the most difficult obstacles placed in her way (not only is she a Black woman landing in 1961 Dallas, but she’s a Black woman landing in 1961 Dallas who can’t even speak in her own defense for a year) and they sugarcoated exactly none of it. The writers pulled no punches when showing what civil rights protesters went through, which just made their nonviolent response all the more breathtaking. Allison’s fear and anger during those scenes were palpable even as she kept them hidden. But along with that horror, we see the kindness and warmth of the Dallas Black community, the women who take her in simply because she needs their help, and her love for Ray, perhaps heretofore THE most thoughtful husband ever portrayed on screen. I loved him, and I loved him and Allison together. While I understand and respect his choice to stay in 1963, I wish they’d gotten more time together. They both deserved it.
Vanya. We got to see how much the baggage from her past affected her by glimpsing what she might be like if it were taken away. It’s an interesting philosophical question, and it was explored well, in my opinion. She finds it easier to love and be loved, and she stands up for herself more readily—but she also doesn’t hesitate to use powers she can’t quite control and threatens Five without fully realizing how dire her threat is (or how it might dredge up traumatic memories she doesn’t know exist). The moment where Ben finds her curled up, fully convinced she’s a monster, was heartbreaking. I loved watching her find happiness with Sissy, even if that was fleeting (and dear god, Sissy deserved her happy ending with Vanya, dammit, I don’t care if it would fuck up the timeline). Her patience and sweetness with Harlan were just beautiful. And the way she used the confidence she gained during her amnesia to fully come into her own not to exact revenge on her siblings, but to save them, was fucking phenomenal.
The humor. There was a lot more humor this season, and it was awesome. So many iconic scenes—Olga Foroga, Luther babysitting two homicidal Fives, Elliot awkwardly lecturing his guests on the history of Jello, “NEW TIMELINE NEW ME,” “Your vagina needs glasses,” AJ the fish gobbling up the cigarette bubbles, Five getting to say “fuck”….this season was a lot funnier than the previous one, and I think that was one of its strengths.
Klaus’ cult. It was played for laughs, which I both expected and thought was the best way to handle it. He didn’t want to start a new religion with himself at the center; he just wanted to not get thrown out of any more diners, but Destiny’s Children had other ideas. The “I too am a fraud!” scene was hilarious and tickled the question of whether or not a religion founded on false pretenses can still help those within it find meaning.
Luther. Getting him away from his dad, his siblings, and the Academy was exactly what he needed to become the pure of heart and dumb of ass genius we always knew he was, but his first major step in that direction was heartbreaking. We all knew he’d be rejected once he got to the Academy. We all knew Reginald would rip his heart out and stomp on it in his admittedly fashionable shoes. It gets Luther out on his own and forces him to become his own person apart from his dad, but that doesn’t make it any easier to watch. He got the positive character development he needed, but the catalyst was tragic.
Diego. We see, for the first time, exactly how Reginald kept him in line—not with meds or with PTSD-inducing torture, but with words. Even when he knows Diego as little more than a stranger, Reginald is able to rip off his skin and fling it in his face with a single diatribe; and even at 30, with years away from his dad, Diego is left unable to speak, feeling as if all of his accomplishments up to that point were the work of a dumb kid who thought he was smarter and more capable than he actually was.
Luther and Diego sharing a braincell. Luther has bad ideas. Diego has bad ideas. When they put their bad ideas together, they get terrible ideas. I loved watching them work together as a team, rather than being at each others’ throats for most of the season, even if I’m left hoping Olga Foroga had a pleasant and quiet day after that phone call.
Reginald. At first glance, it may look like the writers were trying to make him likable so they could parade him around as your average abusive-parent-with-a-soft-side. But it’s more nuanced than that. Abusive parents (and abusers in general) often fly under the radar because they fool outsiders into thinking they’re good people. They’re active in their communities. They give to charity. They have friends who attest to their virtue, significant others who think they’re the greatest. And that’s what we see with Reginald. We see him as the rest of the world did: an intelligent, eccentric man with a sharp sense of humor who cared deeply about scientific advancement. That’s how he evaded suspicion—because there were stories from years past of lively parties at his mansion, of what a gentleman he was to Grace and of how he did everything he could to save little Pogo. But those stories would all have come from people he considered his equals. When he’s with people he considers his inferiors—aka, the Umbrella kids—he’s openly condescending and demeaning. We get to see how he fooled the world, and it is chilling.
Elliot. He deserved better, and you can ship him with any one of the Hargreeves kids and get the cutest thing ever.
The Swedes. They said so much while speaking very little.
Ben. He got more personality and screen time, and it was glorious. His love of his family and resentment toward Klaus practically leapt off the screen. The way he says “I’ve missed you all…so much” once they’ve all left was one of those right-in-the-feels moments; and watching him get so much of what he’s wanted for years when he possesses Klaus was beautiful.
Now, as for things I took issue with….
Ben. I understand why they ended his arc the way they did. I get that they were probably afraid the Klaus/Ben dynamic would grow stale if they didn’t change it somehow and wanted to give him a larger role in S3. His death(???) was heartbreaking and extremely well-done. But it also wasn’t foreshadowed. We never got any sense of what ghosts in the TUA ‘verse are, so the fact they can be destroyed by a ton of sound-turned-energy or by going too far into someone’s psyche or whatever happened….it’s not that it doesn’t make sense so much as there’s not enough evidence to determine whether or not it makes sense. It feels like the writers just kinda made that up so they’d have a reason to change Ben’s relationship dynamics, but if that’s the case, couldn’t they have done it another way? Couldn’t they have made it so the immense energy or psychic woo-woo or whatever gave him a power-up instead of destroying him? Vanya transferred some of her energy into Harlan and brought him back to life. Couldn’t something similar have happened with Ben? And if it tied him to Vanya as well as to Klaus, great! More fodder for angst and humor! (”Vannyyyyyyyy, stop hogging Ben!” “You got him for 17 years, Klaus, you can part with him for 20 minutes.” “Guys, don’t I get a say in this?”) I’m glad they didn’t write him out of the series entirely, but I still wish they’d kept him and all the character development he’d gotten throughout S2.
Episode 10. It looks like they tried to cram half a season’s worth of developments into 45 minutes. Twenty minutes in, I’d already said “Wait what the fuck” half a dozen times. A lot of those moments were explained later on, and I was able to make enough inferences to fill in any lingering plot holes, but…still. Too much stuff, too little time. E9 was a perfectly satisfying ending to the season. Yes, it leaves the siblings stranded in 1963, but they could’ve tied up those loose ends in the S3 premiere.
Lila. She’s an incredibly fun character, but her arc is kind of a mess. Most of that is due to E10, and I do feel that more time to let her arc breathe would’ve worked wonders, but I’m left feeling like her turn from “Handler is the best mom ever and I lurve Diego too” to “KILL DIEGO AND HIS EVIL FAMILY” to “Handler is a bad mom and Diego is right” happened too quickly.
The Commission. Okay, so, the Handler announces the entire Board has been killed, and she’s stepping in as director even though everyone appears to know she’s been demoted (and demoted pretty severely—she went from having an office bigger than some apartments to being a case management drone). There’s suspicion and lots of it. But then, La Resistance is….ten or so people in a single room? And when she calls the temps agents to her side, thousands of them show up ready and willing to fight and die? I dunno. Just seems like there should’ve been more splintering going on there. Again, I think they needed more time to tie everything up.
Aside from those complaints, I loved the season. I set aside most of a day to binge it, and I do not regret that decision at all.

Where the very first words your soulmate will say to you is tattooed on your wrist
John Murphy
♡Masterlist♡ You had always been envious of your friends and the tattoos on their wrists.
It wasn't the tattoo you were jealous of. Everyone on the Ark had one.
It was what their tattoos said that made your blood boil.
When you're born, you come with a tattoo on your wrist, and that tattoo consists of the first words your soulmate will say to you.
"I can't believe it's really you."
"You're so beautiful."
"My soulmate is the prettiest girl on the Ark."
Yeah, those were all of the things tattooed on your friends wrists.
What did yours say?
I think I'm going to throw up.
Yup. Those are the words written on you for the rest of your life.
You had gone over and over time and time again trying to imagine your first encounter with your soulmate.
All of your friends gushed over how cute their soulmates already were, while you pondered over the fact that your soulmate would be physically ill when he first met you.
You hid your wrist as much as possible, and were grateful when the wristband you were issued covered up the words you hated so much.
You met a lot of new people after being sent to the ground, and were relieved when days had gone by and you hadn't heard the words you dreaded.
After the malfunction that made all of the wristbands come off, you did what you could to hide the words.
Wearing long sleeves, making bracelets out of spare cord...
Almost a month had gone by, and you still didn't hear anyone complaining about being sick.
Until he came back.
You had never spoken to John Murphy.
Hell, you didn't even know what color his eyes were. You stayed as far away from his as possible, and, rightfully so.
You were among the first to be in contact with him after your best friend, Octavia Blake, had found him in the woods, beaten to a pulp.
After Clarke had determined biological warfare, you volunteered to help with the sick. It was inevitable that you were going to get sick anyway, you being one of the first to touch the ill boy, so you might as well help while you could. At least a dozen people were on their death beds, and the words on your wrist were just a memory in moments like these where it was life or death.
You were making rounds, passing out water, when he caught your eye.
Normally, the sight of the boy everyone despised in such anguish would having you smiling to yourself.
But this was different.
He was shaking. Beaten. Bruised and bloody. Vulnerable. Broken.
And it hurt you.
"How are you feeling?"
You crouched down next to him, frowning at the absence of his fingernails which had been ripped off by the Grounders.
His eyes met yours. They were blue. They reminded you of the sky. Up on the Ark, you used to sit for hours in front of the window that faced earth, and marvel at the blue. Coming to earth, you didn't expect the sky to be so... vivid and beautiful.
But his eyes were also full of panic.
"I think I'm gonna throw up."
Your heart stopped.
John Murphy?
Out of all of the people in the universe, your soulmate was John Murphy?
"Yeah, me too." You whispered.
You both sat in silence, and you waited for him to vomit, but he didn't. After simmering in the awkwardness, you eventually stood, and went around the dropship tending to the others.
The entire time, his eyes followed you.
-
Not soon after your encounter with your dreaded soulmate did you fall ill.
You were passing out water when you looked down in the cup to see that it had turned a crimson red. You frowned, confused. But the question to your curiosity was answered when you reached up to wipe your nose with the back of your hand, and were met with the blood that was dripping. Immediately, you called for Clarke, and she made you lay down in the only available spot which, go figure, was right next to Murphy.
You laid there in anguish, clenching your teeth together and tilting your head to the side when you felt the uncontrollable urge to vomit.
Someone was holding your hair back, and when you were finished emptying the contents of your stomach, you turned around to thank Clarke, who you presumed was the one who was helping.
But it wasn't Clarke. She was on the other side of the dropship tending to someone's wound.
Murphy looked better than he had an hour ago, and you awkwardly wiped the dribble off of your chin.
"Thank you." You croaked, your voice raw.
"It's the least I could do for my soulmate." The corner of his lips curled up into a smirk.
After sitting in more silence, he broke it.
"Did you think it would be me?" He asked you, propping himself up on his elbow.
You frowned.
"What?" You inquired.
"Did you think it would be me? Did you ever think you would get lucky enough to have me as your soulmate?" He smiled cockily.
You just scoffed, which turned into a hacking cough.
"I knew I was lucky the moment I understood what the words on my wrist meant." He whispered after you had gotten your breathing under control.
You blinked, confused once again for the millionth time that day.
He extended his right wrist to you, where the very first words you had ever spoken to him were.
How are you feeling?
You ran your index finger over the tattoo. His skin was rough and calloused.
"I knew that I was lucky, because the very first words my soulmate would ever say to me were asking how I was feeling. My soulmate was kind. Caring. Selfless." His voice had dropped even quieter, and you strained to hear him.
You smiled, and looked down at your wrist.
"I always thought my soulmate was an asshole." You smiled as he gently traced the words on your wrist. A jolt of electricity pulsed through you.
"Well, you weren't wrong." Murphy laughed once, and looked you in your (Y/C/E) eyes which were blotched red from all of coughing.
"You should get some rest." He pulled his hand away from your wrist, and you secretly longed for his touch.
Seriously, (Y/N) It's John Murphy. Maybe there was a mistake. There's no way he's my soulmate.
You tried to convince yourself of this. He had been so awful to everyone on the ground. How could someone as sweet as you be destined to someone as selfish as him?
"Yeah. Yeah, I should. We both should." You closed your eyes, and turned your head away from him in fear that you would end up staring at him.
Fatigue overcame you, and you thought of the irony of it all.
The very day you meet your soulmate might very well be the same day you both die.
"Murphy?" His name rolled effortlessly off your tounge.
He was quite for a moment.
"Yeah?" He whispered back, turning to face you.
A single tear rolled down your cheek, and he wiped it away with the pad of his thumb.
"Please be here when I open my eyes." You whispered.
The last thing you remember before sinking into unconsciousness, was him taking your hand into his.
-
Miraculously, you both survived through the night. When you opened your eyes again, you were met with him gazing at you.
"Good morning." He greeted you with a small smile. The grovel in his voice was gone, and color had begun to return to his cheeks.
"Hi." You smiled softly, and swallowed, the pain in your throat gone.
Clarke examined the both of you, and explained that the sickness was a 24 hour thing, and you two should be fine now.
Both you and Murphy exited the dropship side by side to go get some water from the still.
You both walked slowly, your bones and joints still aching and sore.
"It wasn't just because I was sick that I said it." He broke the silence.
You raised an eyebrow, perplexed, and he held out his tattooed wrist.
You nodded in understanding, and motioned for him to continue.
"Yeah, I already felt sick, but the moment I realized you were my... soulmate," He smiled at the word, a blush creeping to his cheeks.
"I was so scared I was going to get you killed, (Y/N)," His eyes were full of sadness.
"If I lived, and if I got you killed, I wouldn't be able to live with myself." His words grew thick and weighed heavy.
You grabbed both of his hands with yours, and looked him in the eyes.
"But you didn't. And, even if you did, it wouldn't have been your fault." Your words were comforting to him, but he still blinked back tears.
"How is it that someone like me is destined to be with someone like you? A butterfly and a dungbeetle." He reached up his hand to push a stray strand of hair behind your ear.
"I don't think you would be a dungbettle. Maybe a stink bug." You smirked.
"Actually I was referring to myself as the butterfly. You would be the dungbettle," He laughed as you playfully smacked him on his shoulder.
"I know I haven't been the best person, but for you, I'm willing to change." He continued.
Your heart began to beat erratically as he leaned in for a sweet kiss. Although both of your lips were chapped, it was still the best kiss you bet you'd ever have.
"Hey! Keep your lips separated, or we're gonna have another outbreak. This time, mono!" You heard Octavia gag a few feet away from you.
You both flipped her off at the same time, and you heard someone chuckle.
"Yup. They're definitely meant for each other."

Valide: "You once asked me what's the difference between you and Hürrem. I'll tell you the most important one - Hürrem acts with her own mind, but you act with other people's minds."
I'm sorry, guys, I know it's a badass scene, I know it's an epic smackdown, I can only guess how much people have been waiting for this one moment perhaps since the beginning, but narratively, the whole thing grinds my gears.
Now, I'm not saying that what Valide says here is entirely wrong: in fact, I think given which portion of the series this is in, she hit the nail on the head. Seeking help from people in need is one of the core traits of Mahidevran's character in S01/2. When she feels she's losing, when she's powerless against the circumstances, going to Valide, Ibrahim or Hatice is her first (and often only) resort. Because she has to face the loss of something so remarkable and so important in her life, someone she thought loved her, someone who she's spent so much of her time with. It's hard, and it took her very long to completely burn the bridge. And in this struggle, she sought help, she thought she couldn't do it alone. And for the core of the statement, there indeed have been times where Mahidevran used the influence of others to achieve her own goal (telling Valide for Hürrem's crown, telling Hatice to marry Nigar to Matrakçi etc.) and it is a fitting statement for this part of her S02B arc: she has gotten her utmost, here even overbearing confidence from Mustafa (E46: "When I left, I thought everything was over, that I was defeated. But now when I came back with Mustafa, I feel like I was reborn."; her behavior the entire episode; E50: "I won't do anything that endangers Mustafa's future.") and she is more than willing to use the power she gets from being his mother (E48: "I'll destroy you with the power I get from my prince!"), now that he's already grown, she's willing to destroy them all, to finally get what she deserves, be where she belongs.
However, this scene, or rather the content of it, lacks the narrative and thematic context necessary for it to be serviceable and it only looks like forced fanservice as a result.
- There is no scene in the entire show where Mahidevran ever asks what's the difference between her and Hürrem. It takes away from the impact, because if they put a scene like this, in say, E45 (but honestly, any other episode will work.), despite of the complaint I'll make in a while, they would get the golden chance to call it back and make a decent connection between the two scenes. But unfortunately, this isn't the case and they have nothing to call back to, which is why it makes all this look like something the writers pulled out of their sleeves all of the sudden, out of absolutely nowhere.
- It is totally OOC for Mahidevran to ask something like this in the first place. She knows very well what's different with Hürrem, she herself makes a difference between both of them from the very beggining to the very end. She considers herself superior to her (E08: "Who are you? I'm a Haseki. Haseki Sultana. You'll show me respect.", E10: "How dare you compare an upstart concubine with a Sultana?", E11: "How do you even call yourself a Sultana? Know your place!", E44: "Who do you think you're kicking out?", E55: "I would be careful of my words if I were you. Because your fate is now in my hands."- by memory), taking her a long while to even admit she was a Sultana (she started doing so by.. S02B? and began to openly call her such only by S03); better than her (constantly calling her a snake, a devil, E53: "This woman is a devil! What things get into her head?" or something like that), and most importantly, acknowledges very well how she breaks the tradition and treats it as unprecedented and rogue. (E40 when Hü said she was freed: "How can that be?"; E45: "How dare she speak to me about tradition?") Even if she could've wondered what was so special to her in the beginning of the show, no, she didn't, she asked Hatice how can that be in E02, but not how Hürrem got into his heart exactly, it was rather how could Süleiman do this when Mahidevran loved only him. She was sad he was replacing her with "a russian slave". She from the beginning and Valide by E45 were even sure that Hürrem had bewitched Süleiman. Mahi, not even once, began to wonder what is it about Hürrem. She had a clear answer on her mind from day one and she always considered her imprudent and fierce and later, an active danger for her son. So, Mahidevran asking such a question in any point of the series, even offscreen, is.. not like her.
- Valide had no reason to bring the "you act with other people's minds" up in the context of the episode. Valide was mad at Mahidevran for her declaring herself a Valide Sultana and being ready kill Hürrem's kids. Her blaming Aybige for her affair with Bali Bey was only the last straw, not the entire reason. And what Mahidevran did in the episode, wasn't dictated by someone else. She didn't even use anyone else to say and do it, either. These words were all hers, the actions were all hers. She proposed to Mustafa, as well as Ibrahim to be with her in that path, but none of them agreed. The only one who wanted to move on was her. She was alone here. She detached herself from everyone else. So that whole quote falls flat. And even if Valide meant to say this to Mahidevran because of her blaming Aybige, she saw and witnessed by herself Aybige's conversation with Bali Bey and she had enough evidence to drive the conclusion that there is something between them. And yes, she had the right to interrogate her, because she is Mustafa's mother and has to know what is going on. As both Valide and Mahidevran (and even Süleiman) have said: The suspicion only is venomous.
- It loses all weight in retrospect, due to biased narrative voice. (warning: SPOILERS!) I've talked about how I dislike Valide's flanderization in S02 a lot, but what I dislike even more, is how they de-flanderized her. This scene strives to be presented as this huge and important realization of Valide Sultan's character, but it is only the voice of the narrative, also thanks to all the problems I listed above. Look at this scene's composition for starters: when Valide arrives, the atmosphere suddenly changes, the triumphant music, which sets us up for something epic and badass, but we still don't know what exactly, until these lines of dialogue are uttered, almost like a plot twist. It only looks like a moment of triumph and a character realization, it looks much more like the narrative directly calling out Mahidevran. That Valide was wrong for ever supporting her. The themes break their impartial point of view and deliver something out of absolutely nowhere to prove a point. (ironically, the scene in E56 where Valide says that Mahidevran deserved everything she endured, does a much better job in somewhat being a character realization moment, because it fit the context, wasn't put there just for.. reasons and you could actually believe the character would say that.) The worst thing is that, despite of it all, nothing mattered in the end. The post-E55 truce between Hürrem and Valide is conveniently forgotten by the themes of the next arc, due to having the power of tradition "fight" with its last forces (Valide falling ill, Mahidevran and Gülfem ruling the harem) and Hürrem having to forever burn the bridges that stand between them and her. This is reflected best in Hürrem's last encounter with Valide Sultan.
#this turned out.. fine I guess#but gosh it definetly felt good#I wanted to rant about this scene for SO long#sorry everyone#magnificent century#ayse hafsa sultan#hurrem sultan#mahidevran sultan

IPKKND & Angst - Top 9 Scenes
Angst: A feelings of anxiety and frustration that isn’t specific.
In the serial verse, this is exactly why “kyun dard hai itna, tere ishq main?” (why does it hurt to be in love with you?)
Words fall short to praise the writers, actors, production team for the moment they were able to express anguish and sentiments through the facade of denial and ignorance.
“Angst is not the human condition, it’s the purgatory between what we have and what we want but can’t get.” ― Miguel Syjuco, Ilustrado
1. The first promo. Nafrat paas aane na de, mohabbat door jaane na de. This is angst, personified. 2. She tells she’s leaving for Lucknow, forever. He hears she’s leaving him, forever. (S1, E45) 3. He tells her it’s his engagement, and whether it happens or not, how does it matter to her? She tells that it doesn’t matter, with tears stinging her eyes. (S4, E10) 4. When he compels her to marry him. And she agrees. (S6, E4 - S6, E8) 5. When he passionately dances with his wife. The woman he supposedly hates. (S6, E33) 6. "Khushi, please stop crying. Khushi I... I love you.” (S7, E27) 7. “That I love you damnit!” (S8 , E30)
8. “No, Arnav ji will come. I have faith in him. Today is our wedding.” (S9, E30 - S10, E2) 9. “Arnav and Khushi will always stay together.” (S10, E30)
Read more for in-depth thoughts.
“Nafrat paas aane na de, mohabbat door jaane na de.”
“Hate prevents us from growing closer, love forbids us from growing apart.”
This promo had me hook, line and sinker. It was refreshing to watch a rich romance drama, sans any fanciness, that delved deep into symbolism and almost added a sense of forbidden in their love story. In the first image the power play - the financial and status difference is highlighted (brilliant framing) because Khushi literally looks up to Arnav, him unaware of her. And you’re sure that this might be an innocent love, a hidden attraction that is not returned.
Yet, once Arnav leaves the elevator (and is aware that no one is looking at him), he turns to catch a glimpse of her. So he was aware, very much so, of her gaze. And boy oh boy, the feelings aren’t just returned - they’re intensified! And it’s this continuous push and pull that sets the course of IPKKND. She is wary of his approach, but does not believe his arrogance is all to him. He rebuffs her, but is always pained by her despair.
She wishes to love him, despite his apparent flaws. He wishes to hate her, despite her apparent perfection.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate that the shadows of rain fall on her, putting the torn photograph together. She treasures it and holds it against her heart, her eyes wide, afraid and lost.
While he is in the middle of nowhere, drenched in rain, holding a photograph in his hands. Unable to look more, he crumples the photograph, his eyes tightly shut as if he’s crushing something that’s causing him immense pain.
*chef’s kiss to this promo*
What does a person want apart from two rich characters in a rich storyline with rich layering? You are not just invested in the day the confess their love to each other, rather the journey that takes them there.
*dreamy sigh*
"Nafrat hai na aapko humse? Humari aukaad se? Humari shakal nahi dekhna chahte hai na aap? Toh khushi ho jaiye, hum aapki nazron se hamesha ke liye door jaa rahe hai. Lucknow jaa rahe hai hum, hamesha ke liye.” (S1, E45)
“So you hate me? My status? You don’t want to see my face, right? Then rejoice! I’m going to be out of your sight, forever. I’m leaving for Lucknow, forever.”
This sounds like a woman wobbling on the edge of feelings for a man. And it awfully sounds like a breakup (which is funny because the story hasn’t even started, or technically it did when their eyes met?)
One of the most interesting thing about this exchange is the way Khushi words her departure. She never says “I hate you,” or “I am leaving with my family to go back home,” or “my stay in Delhi has come to an end.” It’s almost like as if she lived in Delhi all along as was leaving to a new city because of him.
Her departure is attached to his hatred. To her, her status, her face - three things that has hurt Khushi the most. She literally says that she’s going away from his sight, forever.
It’s no wonder Arnav hears something else, that she’s not going home, she’s leaving him. In most waysIPKKND has been heavily biased to Arnav’s point of view - so when she declares the bg score quickly shifts to a soft, instrumental Rabba Ve.
The impact? His world stops for a second and he literally just says one thing, trying to get a hold of her, “Khushi, you can’t leave like this. Khushi!”
This conversation haunts Arnav till no end. He spends every moment henceforth playing everything wrong that he did with her.
This episode is my favorite because their inner struggles are so visible.
When Lavanya asks Arnav if he loves her the way she is, Arnav looks atKhushi’s desk and says “Yes, I like you the way you are.”
This is the first time Arnav and Khushi develop their sixth sense towards the other - something that manifests deeply over the months to come. Khushi tells herself not to look at Arnav but she does, and is unable to look away. Her feet gives away at his voice, her logic abandons her (talk about pushing a door outward when it opens inward).
When Shyam, over the phone, tells her how much he thinks about her she’s immediately alarmed until he covers his words. With Arnav she’s not afraid of the physical intensity but of his anger, definitely his anger.
It’s the first time Arnav sees how much he affects her, negatively as well.
And their romantic, delicate moments is a scene stealer. Her self respect does not allow him to take his extended hand. His awareness of her pulls him to return her dupatta to him, a gesture that means so much. When they’re both quiet, something else happens altogether.
And then both are disturbed by the thoughts of each other. She’s stunned by his softness. She had noticed when he stopped his rant. And the first woman Arnav thinks of when Anjali tells her about love is Khushi. It’s his anger and personality that prevents Khushi from thinking more about Arnav.
And it’s also his personality and beliefs (that are now on very shaky grounds) that stop Arnav from accepting the corner of his heart that has, unexpectedly, softened for Khushi. He only allows himself to completely think of her when he’s alone.
*double dreamy sigh - eating butter popcorn for the sigh*
“Khushi meri sagai ho ya na ho, kal ho ya ek saal baad ho, tumhe usse kya farak padta hai?” (S4, E10)
“Khushi, whether I get engaged or not, whether it’s tomorrow or the next year, how does it matter to you?”
The first thing that Khushi replies if, “Why should it matter to me if it’s your engagement?”
It’s not a no. It’s a question she asks him in turn. What does he expect? Why is he asking her this? Why… when it’s too late? And she quickly covers it up with “No, it makes no difference.”
It’s a lie. The minute she looks at him she knows he knows it’s a lie. Big props to the background scorers. We know the question hits Khushi hard because it’s the question she has been avoiding all along. We know that even though Arnav knows it’s a terribly hidden lie, he cannot help being hurt - a big credit to the soft, painful background score apart from the fantastic actors.
And when Khushi justifies her actions with scattered sentences and tears stinging her eyes, Arnav knows the truth. She knows the truth. And they both wait for the other to acknowledge it. And they both know neither can do so.
The most beautiful, painful and almost tragic part of this scene is that they’re both completely aware and struggling with the weight of their denial. His desperation, perhaps, is a mirror image to Khushi’s desperation when she wanted to know why he nearly kissed her on Diwali. But his desperation is also triggered by the fact that she is engaged to another man.
One might also wonder that once she can validate her emotions, perhaps break her loveless engagement (which he correctly assumes is forced), then he might get the strength to break his? One might also wonder that Khushi, at this point, has lost all hope for whatever it was between them - yet at his prodding she can only hope if he can ever speak up his mind. And his inability to do so pushes him farther away from her.
One of the loveliest things about Arnav and Khushi is that they can be interpreted a thousand ways. In one way Arnav’s fury post that scene does not really come from him believing that he does not matter, but rather on her denial. And he’s clearly not thinking clearly. Not ever since he learned her engagement. And Khushi, on the other hand, seems to have accepted her gloomy future, and seems to be sinking onto the thorn she has held onto.
If you see one of the promo posters, the creatives modified it to Khushi holding a thorned rose that injures her hand (so it’s bleeding) but her gaze is transfixed to the man behind her who’s staring at her too.
I think that is Arnav and Khushi’s journey. Poetic tragedy.
A story you’re almost afraid will not have a happy ending. A story where everything wrong happens. So it’s only a bigger pay off that they do end up together, in their happily ever after.
And honestly, Khushi’s refusal to accept her feelings post their marital status kind of prevents Khushi from seeming immoral or as the ‘third’ woman in Lavanya’s life. Also - I love Anjali at this time who is really the only person constantly worried about Khushi’s lack of happiness for her impending wedding. Not even Lavanya senses Khushi’s despair.
*I always, always tear up at this scene.*
“Haan ya na? Haan, ya na!” (S6, E4 - S6, E8)
“Yes or no? Yes, or no!”
The elopement episodes legit kill me. It’s so painful, and it’s painful because it was avoidable! And it’s all built of misunderstandings! There’s so much regret and what ifs that stem from here that this phase alone has inspired so many fan fictions across the world.
This moment reminds me of Shakespeare’s Othello on how Desdemona was painted as a lose woman by a jealous Iago. And convinced the Othello who had loved his wife endlessly that she was having an extra marital affair with Othello’s best friend and right hand man, Casio.
In IPKKND, Casio and Iago is built into one Shyam Manohar Jha - a man Arnav trusts immensely. A man so manipulative that it’s almost impossible to believe his vile side until we see it ourselves. It often makes me wonder what if we, the audience, never saw the conniving side of Shyam Manohar Jha? It’s frightening to realize that like Anjali, a lot of us might have had difficulty to understand what could be the truth.
There are so many reasons why this episode hurt. Khushi expected a proposal. Arnav wanted to propose. And it wouldn’t just be a confession of love, it would be marriage - it was hinted all along with the mehendi, haldi, new bangles for a bride to be and his duty as a damaad to look after his in laws’ relatives. He had behaved so innately as if he were already married to Khushi that it hurt to see their dreams of marriage come true, as a nightmare.
The push and pull between pain, empathy, betrayal is heartbreaking. Also, I believe it is also one of the few television shows to completely highlight the reason for a sudden, forced marriage. Yes, Arnav technically ‘gains’ agency of Khushi by claiming her as his wife - but that is never physical.
To be physically close to her is what they both wanted and dreamed off so it’s the first thing he shatters between him and Khushi. They wouldn’t be in the same side of the room, forget the bed.
Barun and Sanaya’s performance is impeccable in these sequences. Arnav’s constant shift from a cold, calculative monster a man whose heart breaks on his beloved’s tears is so visible. Khushi’s disbelief, to heartbreak to helplessness and ultimate ruin pulls the most of us to run and hug her for the longest time.
When Arnav asks Khushi to marry him, the pose is romantic - with her pressed against him, dressed in the similar shades - much like how they had danced a few nights ago. But it’s all a nightmare, the green tint adds the feeling of nausea, despair and gloom.
Of course, most of the anger shifts to an Arnav who torments Khushi endlessly for the months to come but most of my hatred at this point is fixed on Snake Jha instead. That man, singlehandedly, destroyed the most beautiful relationship out of his own villainy.
And if there’s anything I’m unsatisfied with in this serial, it’s how Arnav and Khushi never end up punishing Shyam directly for ruining their individual lives (and for perennially harassing Khushi over a period of seven months).
When he passionately dances with his wife. The woman he supposedly hates. (S6, E33)
“Bheegi bheegi si hai raatein bheegi bheegi
Yaadein bheegi bheegi baatein bheegi bheegi
Aankhon mein kaisi nami hai,
Aa ha ha ha ... aa ha
Sapnon ka saya palkon pe aaya
Pal mein hasaya pal mein rulaya
Phir bhi yeh kaisi kami hai
Aa ha ha ha ... aa ha Na jaane koi kaisi hai yeh zindagani, zindagani
Hamari adhuri kahani.”
The nights are drenched, so are the memories, the conversations. My eyes are strangely damp. A shadow of my dreams flashed before my eyes. It made me laugh, it made me cry. And yet, there’s something missing. No one knows what this life is. The one of our incomplete story.
This is the song that ran in my head when I watched them dance, painfully similar to way they danced when they were deep in love, in their Teri Meri. The steps are hauntingly same, but the emotions are vastly different.
For me in this moment Khushi is taken aback at her own feelings. She was so sure she had killed every memory, every feeling of that fateful night when he had danced straight from her fantasies into her heart. And boy she was wrong - those feelings rose back with a vengeance.
And for Arnav, it’s funny how the dance almost seems like a move to claim Khushi for himself, to exercise his possessive right over her in front of that vile Snake.
Once they start dancing though, everything fades away apart from the burning intensity they have for each other. This is something private. It’s the thin line between love and lust that they have always walked on.
His eyes are sharp yet intoxicated, drinking her face like nothing else. Her body is soft, and fluid, melting at his slightest touch. The wonder never leaves her eyes, neither does the sudden hunger.
Although the idea of the Delhi main Bali and Snake giving her roses *ewww, why didn’t she make an excuse!!!* and a part of me really wished that Khushi wore a pink saree instead of a salwar (she carries those so well - in that sexy, naive way!), and I wish that Snake disappeared from the planet - this dance was worth it.
The contrast between Akash Payal’s honeymoon night versus theirs does provide some much needed comic relief, it’s in the little moments such as a lit matchstick or them sharing a couch that kinda shows that the after effects of the dance lingered long in their heads.
Would I have been happier to have seen them directly carry out the palpable tension and angst that simmered during the dance to the privacy of their room? YES
Would that be possible on Indian television? Probably no
Do I respect the writers’ decision? Yes
Is this a perfect combination of angst and sexual tension? Heck yeah, why do you think I’m writing this!
Why do I love this scene - it has everything synonymous to Arnav and Khushi; the angst, passion, conflicted emotions and a hope that the fire hadn’t dimmed out.
*totally fanned myself and mentally thought that they were gonna blow up in flames or sexual frustration or the angsty thing of this whole situation at this point*
"Khushi, please stop crying. Khushi I... I love you.” (S7, E27 - S7, E28)
This was not a confession of love. This was a man’s last words. Arnav knew he would never get another chance to speak to her. As they say, death often brings about the biggest realizations and the biggest regrets. Yet again, this was a situation that could have been avoided.
If he listened to her.
If he had trusted her.
If he had allowed her to take him back home.
The ‘what ifs’ were too much. There was nothing more for Arnav to lose. And he couldn’t die without telling the only woman he ever loved that he never hated her. That he only, ever, loved her. Nothing else mattered.
On the other side Khushi had lost every hope of ever getting her love returned. His acerbic words and accusations had clawed her insides so much that logic, reasoning and even his hatred had fated away. He had to have known that she had always loved him. But she was so afraid to say anything that she could only cry when she heard his voice. And even before she could say what she wanted, he said the impossible.
He loved her.
Despite everything.
The angst is so heavy over here because Khushi’s joy and Arnav’s tragedy are so well put next to each other. On one end Khushi is floating with the thought of being loved and on the other Arnav is drowning for the very same reason. It’s one thing to verbalize your love, and another to never get the opportunity to live it.
True, Arnav wouldn’t have confessed his love if his life wasn’t in danger. He definitely would have come to that conclusion long after. It’s just that his brush with probably death broke away every hesitation, fear, doubt, betrayal he faced.
And nothing apart from an ‘I love you’ would’ve rendered Khushi speechless. It’s also disheartening that she realizes he would have never told her the same if things were normal.
The frustration, the pain, it’s beautiful!
Also one thing I found very interesting is that he cuts the call before Khushi can reply to him. Maybe her shock, her tears, her happiness (now that they are immensely in sync with each other), reveal that his feelings were returned (yup I’m an optimist!)? Maybe that’s why they didn’t need to say anything to each other apart from knowing that they’ve both been blind (once they meet each other into that legendary hug)?
It’s interesting that out of all the things that haunt him when he’s kidnapped - it’s how he reacted after knowing her version of truth. And Khushi, dear Khushi, she sees everything at his one confession - and perhaps it tells us all what she ever wanted to hear all along. Just like Arnav could forgive her everything at the possibility of never seeing her again, Khushi could forgive his anything at the slightest chance of him loving her back.
Also, one quick side note - I love how this parallels to the first promo. There Khushi held the torn photo together and held it against her heart. Here, Khushi’s belief in their broken relationship gets a 180 turn and she grasps her phone against her heart. There Arnav crumples the worn photo and closes his eyes in pain. Here, he cuts the call and grips the phone and closes his eyes in pain, again.
Full circle much?
*nope, totally didn’t cry when this happened, just some water leaks on the glands outside my eye ok*
“That I love you damnit!” (S8 , E30)
Isn’t it funny that the two most angsty moments in the show are the two times that Arnav ‘confesses’ his love to Khushi. And in fact it’s not that he’s confessing his love, it’s something they both know, it’s always more than that.
Totally negating the fact that there was an awkward-almost-forced-no-communication-what-the-heck-hate-it that-they-look-hot-weird-consummation sequence, let’s jump to Khushi overtly persisting Arnav about the necessities of marriage and rituals and Arnav finally breaking it to her that he loves her.
Given what happened (when he blamed her for everything wrong that happened in Anjali’s marriage) it’s perhaps easy to understand why Khushi would, again, need verbal assurance of who was she to him and what was her place in life.
In her mind it makes absolute sense that even if he proclaimed several times that he is her husband and she is his wife after that, she needed his words as his actions and words have contradicted a lot over time.
In his mind everything also makes sense. He married her (terribly, might I add), things were going better, they have shared a bed and are used to each other’s physical spaces and were always pretty close to kissing, if not sex (to be canon compliant, we can always imagine a much more eager Khushi and less creepy Arnav actually ready to bang in the hut).
So over here, in this scene, it’s the height of their frustrations and their differences in ideologies. Arnav has been a man of actions, Khushi has been a woman of words.
We can see how different they are, fundamentally and in a way it’s hilarious because both want the same thing. It’s kinda crucial to see that despite wanting the same thing - they really can’t understand each other at this point. He wants her to act. She wants him to say. And neither are getting the other in this process.
And even though he yells at her and stares at her with this intense release of their bubbling emotions - it was hot. Strangely it was because we’ve all heard of the calm before the storm, this was more like a calm after the storm.
And what’s sweet is that Khushi is always stunned. She stares at him and slowly lets it sink in about what he said. (I wish Arnav stuck around than swagger walked away because she went back into the room and positively glowed). So although this might not be my most favorite angst moment, the time when they just stare and Khushi goes through this phase of shock, understanding and a ‘why-didn’t-you-tell-me-before’ and he goes through irritation, understanding and then back to annoyance is the last bit of angst that they have against each other.
And for some reason, he does leave before he can hear her reply. Again.
*they looked so, so hot. Can’t believe this episode was nearly ruined by the forced suhaagraat. So glad she gets to tell him ‘I love you’ in this same outfit.*
“Jiji, agar woh waapas nahi aye toh hum kya karenge? Agar woh waapas nahi aye toh hum kya karenge?!” (S9, E30 - S10, E2)
“Jiji, what will I do if he never returns? What will I do if he never returns!?”
In this context it can loosely be translated to what will happen to me if he never returns as well.
Oh God these episodes tug my heartstrings so much. As I said, everything terrible seems to be happening to these two. And just as they resolved every bit of doubt between themselves, fate played them into the hands of the things that mattered most to them - family.
One of the reasons why I truly love this episode is because how ferocious Khushi is. She loves him, after the massive journey they’ve had, and heck will she allow anyone to destroy that. Her paranoia, fear and almost maddening level of love was such a refreshing change.
It’s not that she was just sobbing - no, she was constantly shifting between anger, denial, cries, yells, silence - everything. She nearly lost her mind at the thought of never getting him back again. And YES! This is my most favourite Khushi - the passionate, determined, vulnerable, strong, vocal Khushi.
And Arnav, oh God I truly cried for him. His struggles, his tears - I loved that he collapsed and cried his lungs out. I loved that he kept on trying to make sense of his life and collect the pieces of memory floating around to give an answer.
The angst, the fight against the past, the ultimate payoff - completely worth it. He made the right decision and he was still shaken by everything. Khushi, despite yelling at Dadi when that woman had the audacity of orchestrating this event, still murmured her apology to Arnav - respecting his family relations. They’re both quintessentially who they are, but at this point of time they understand each other in a completely different level.
(Which is why the future tracks don’t make much sense. Neither does the situation of Ek Jashn because no way would Arnav forget this day, out of everything.)
This day could have gone so, so wrong. But it does not. The angst of the two episodes builds up so well that I was crying when Arnav met with an accident - because he running his way back to his Khushi. The symbolism is flowing so heavily in these scenes.
It’s literally what keeps on happening in their lives. Khushi keeps her hope until it’s impossible and Arnav proves her wrong (delightfully so) by saying the most important things to her or even by making the most important decision. An optimist and a responsible decision maker - life looks good for them.
Kudos to the sound team for the way they handled the music - especially when Khushi rubbishes her thoughts of the broken bangles, is over excited at Arnav’s arrival and rushes down the stairs to meet him (breaking every single ritual cause rituals actually didn’t matter) and despite all the joy the dread in the background score is so good and effective.
Would I have liked if Arnav kept his hair up, if the phere flashback was omitted cause we just proved that pheres weren’t the issue and if the frothy pink white background was something different and darker - even like just the simple mandir as the mandir wedding aesthetic was prettier - definitely. BUT, that’s just minor irrelevant details.
*lets out a soft breath when Arnav kisses Khushi’s forehead after they marry... yes, angst is gone... totally gone. Thank God*
“Arnav aur Khushi hamesha saath rahenge.” (S10, E30)
“Arnav and Khushi will always stay together.”
Damnit, I’m getting emotional! Look at what the last angsty moment is between them. The first time I sensed angst, it was the impossibility of them getting together. And now, it’s the impossibility of them living apart.
That’s exactly why I am in love with this series - this is called growth.
I so sincerely wished the rest of the Aarav track was dealt with this much of maturity instead of the stupid comedy that was off putting. But you have to give the props to the writers, actors and production team for coming up with this soft, slightly angsty, emotional moment about the two characters who are so true to their nature yet fear another external force pulling them apart.
It’s a beautiful insight to the future. That Khushi would accept her vulnerabilities. That Arnav would reassure her and have his life knocked back into him when she would be next to him. That Arnav and Khushi would discuss everything together, now their differences remained superficial and their understanding was skin deep.
They understand all that without saying much. No humor, no belittling Khushi, no family harping on Arnav 2.0, no Khushi losing her maturity/intelligence/brains and no Sheetal becoming besties of Raizada for no reason.
This scene is such a beautiful moment between the both of them - precisely why the Mrs. India track felt like such a terrible downfall in their relationship. It didn’t make sense based on what was established in this episode.
Arnav and Khushi need each other. There’s no ego, no pride, just a deep level of understanding and a connection that rivals almost everything else. Over here Arnav isn’t angry at Khushi for making crazy connections, he’s speaking the possibilities with her and how futile her fear is because they are married and in love - she should be with irrespective of the consequences.
Over here Khushi isn’t hiding her thoughts or lying to him, she’s exposing her fears and worry. As an orphan she feels the necessity of making sure Aarav has a parent - especially if his father is hearty and alive. And she allows herself to be strengthened from the faith Arnav has in them and himself.
This one scene immediately made me empathize with both Arnav and Khushi. This is perhaps one of their very few soft conversations that happen on screen. Is there anything called soft angst? That hug made me weak in my knees. That’s love folks, that’s love. That’s how we envision Arnav & Khushi in future.
*imagines the soft kisses and moments these two might have had. Cries because it’s fluff meets smut and feels and damn they’re gorgeous*
PHEW! THAT’S THE END AND THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH FOR STICKING ONTO THIS ONE! One last, final, quick note - all of this is obviously from my point of view and no way am I even right in perceiving the show - everyone has their own opinions so feel free to add notes!

Not until there are real consequences that he acknowledges are his own fault, and maybe not even then. NoodlesAtNight 11:21 pm *Whatever he pleases, really. Soundwave was just checking on whether or not that had set off Prowl's hatred of either mind doctors or mental tortures and invasions.*
[[In that case, it is good that the Bruce human retains his kindness, however deep below the surface.]] [[At least one of them will be good for the city in the future.]] verdigrisprowl 11:21 pm *oh, well, yes, it definitely did that.* He's plotting his first murder. NoodlesAtNight 11:22 pm [[Alfred agreed to perform it in his place. Voluntarily. He will not get the chance to fall that way.]] verdigrisprowl 11:23 pm Doesn't matter, he wants to. You have a point there.]] [[...There's always Lee.]] verdigrisprowl 11:27 pm Of course he's allowed her to live, he likes her and she's never set her foot down. NoodlesAtNight 11:28 pm *Leaning back* [[Are you suggesting Jim would kill Lee for putting her foot down?]] verdigrisprowl 11:28 pm ... Not /yet./ And if it did happen it would be in a fit of violence during an argument, not premeditated. NoodlesAtNight 11:29 pm *Resumes how he was sitting, but staring up at the ceiling.* [[Primus. He hopes not. Gotham has too few voices of reason as it is.]] [[They really could use those cameras.]] verdigrisprowl 11:31 pm Hmm. ... You know what, time and again, has been the biggest thing hampering such cameras' effectiveness? NoodlesAtNight 11:32 pm *Turns to look at Prowl again.* [[...Sufficient memory space?]] *Human storage spaces are so small. Laughably tiny. They can fit, what, a few whole days on one device?* verdigrisprowl 11:33 pm Enforcers turning them off before confronting a suspect and pretending they'd malfunctioned. NoodlesAtNight 11:33 pm *His upper lip curls slightly in a "what, really" kind of expression.* [[What idiot makes the on and off switch controllable by the wearer?]] verdigrisprowl 11:35 pm Someone very trusting. NoodlesAtNight 11:35 pm [[Sync it to their life signs and keep the activation and deactivation controls in a secure facility. Then they will run as long as they are on the mech - and if they cannot detect a life sign, then either the mech is dead or has taken it off. Both cases merit investigation.]] NoodlesAtNight 11:36 pm [[...Have it installed into the frame so it will require obvious self-injury to remove it.]] verdigrisprowl 11:37 pm Installing it in the frame IS an idea, but too... easy to abuse. verdigrisprowl 11:38 pm What if, say, Starscream got hold of the ability to activate it? What if he started spying through the cameras while the officers were off-duty? verdigrisprowl 11:39 pm Here's the thing about creating new systems like this: you've got to assume that, someday, you're going to be in a terrible accident, and somebody you hate is going to take over your position. verdigrisprowl 11:40 pm In the expectation that that idiot is going to have your job someday, you've got to ensure that the system you've left in place for him is very easy to use for its correct intended purpose, and very difficult to abuse for corrupt purposes. NoodlesAtNight 11:41 pm *Hmm. That's a good point. He wouldn't want Starscream to get his claws on it. ... Providing Prowl really did mean Starscream, and wasn't covering up an implication that Soundwave was the one who would spy while they were off-duty.* *He'd like to think Prowl wouldn't be like that toward him, though.* verdigrisprowl 11:41 pm *Starscream was a euphemism for "anyone untrustworthy and/or literally Starscream himself," not for "Soundwave."* NoodlesAtNight 11:44 pm [[Perhaps a facility that would shut itself down on removal of its guard and force a full replacement and reset?]] *Frown.* [[No. Then the corrupt mechs would terminate anyone they didn't like and enjoy the freedom in the interval between guards.]] [[Hm. This is more difficult than he thought.]] NoodlesAtNight 11:45 pm *Huff.* [[Give it to your alternate. If she has lived THIS long, she will probably live at least another 100 million.]] verdigrisprowl 11:45 pm I have ideas. For another day, though. Being able to implement them on my Cybertron is still a ways off. NoodlesAtNight 11:46 pm *That's not serious. He's just blowing off some frustration over an idea that's So Good, but so Troublesome.*
[[Of course. As you said -- too many changes at once. ... But he would like to see them /some/ day.]] *Preferably sooner rather than later.* [[Besides, your force is small enough we can keep our optics on them fairly well at the IIII.]] verdigrisprowl 11:47 pm Mm. Painfully small. I've cut three people so far and we're feeling the loss of every one of them. verdigrisprowl 11:48 pm ... Well, okay. Only of two of them. Fuse was dead weight. NoodlesAtNight 11:48 pm [[What would you propose to fix that?]] verdigrisprowl 11:50 pm *shrugs* More hires. That's slow work. NoodlesAtNight 11:51 pm [[Particularly with very few new bots available.]] *Frowning harder. That damn population problem again.* NoodlesAtNight 11:54 pm [[So many problems. If he had known there would be this many when taking his oath, he would have asked Primus for a how-to manual.]] verdigrisprowl 11:54 pm This one isn't your problem. NoodlesAtNight 11:55 pm [[Related to it. But even if it weren't - he is allowed to be frustrated by the overall complexity of mending a society.]] NoodlesAtNight 11:57 pm *Gets up to start cleaning. He supposes he'll have a lot to think about this evening. Might as well ponder it all now.* verdigrisprowl 11:58 pm *gets up to help clean. he's been allowed to do it twice now and he's not about to lose that privilege.* NoodlesAtNight 11:58 pm [[Thank you.]] verdigrisprowl 11:59 pm You're welcome. ... *oh so very casually* I've still got half of that bottle you gave me left. Today NoodlesAtNight 12:00 am *Drops the cube he was picking up.* [[Oh.]] *He'll just as casually fetch a broom and dustpan with his feelers.* [[He did wonder about that.]] NoodlesAtNight 12:01 am [[...Were you considering breaking into it again?]] verdigrisprowl 12:02 am If you think that might be fun. I /was/ testing out its strength for tonight. NoodlesAtNight 12:04 am [[Oh, yes. Yes, he thinks that would be - it would be very fun. It is always very fun.]] *Pause.* [[You aren't going to play a game with the datanet if he encourages it, correct? That is not the goal this time? He enjoyed that, but--]] *But he'd like to get laid, is where he's going with this.* verdigrisprowl 12:05 am No. I'm going to interface with you. NoodlesAtNight 12:06 am *And he drops the broom. His imagination is very active tonight.* [[Good! Good.]] verdigrisprowl 12:07 am *he NEARLY maintains a poker face, but his shoulders are trembling.* NoodlesAtNight 12:08 am [[...Maybe he will try it the other way around one day. You always seem to enjoy it, yourself...]] *That's a thought for later.* [[Go on up. He will - get this swept up in a moment and follow you.]] verdigrisprowl 12:08 am I'm helping you finish clean. NoodlesAtNight 12:09 am [[Damn the cleaning. It's technically Buzzsaw's duty tonight.]] [[He can take five minutes away from his paintings.]] verdigrisprowl 12:10 am *Eager, was he.* Then I'd better get started on the bottle. NoodlesAtNight 12:10 am *JUST A LITTLE.* NoodlesAtNight 12:11 am [[Good. And he'll get sweeping.]] *The fastest job of it ever, in fact, and then he'll practically cart Prowl up there like a bag of rocks.* verdigrisprowl 12:12 am *and like a bag of rocks he goes*

It's been a bit but 911 S3 E10, Christmas is back:
- okay Xmas episode is when Doug showed up so I'm very 👀 at the whole ep
- hot take, I think Buck who has been shown to both value Christmas (sent cards to his sister he hadn't heard from in years and bought her a bunch of stuff and a tree to decorate her new apartment) and be good with kids (mainly Christopher but I feel like there's been other moments) wouldn't just say "this Santa Claus isn't real to some kids.
- when does Michael get to be happy? I just want him to have a loving partner too 🥺 I know he started this whole separation but it's obviously been rough on him too
- LITERALLY having the next scene with Buck being one that shows him being good with kids, seriously think that opener was dumb
- CHRISTOPHER ASKING TO SPEND CHRISTMAS WITH BUCK 🥺🥺🥺
- once again fucking in LOVE with the wardrobe they give Hen
- SKSJSKSKSJ getting Doug's life insurance in this episode was a Perfect parallel!
- how tf did this guy think he was gonna bring his golf clubs as a carry on
- love this extremely convoluted series of what ifs
- HE GOT SUCKED INTO THE TURBINE WTF
- okay I googled it and an out of control cart on an airport runway did happen in 2019, with much less injury. It also wasn't a luggage cart.
- cap telling Buck and Eddie to just grab everything cracked me up like this really isn't that much more wild than other things they've dealt with imo
- can't wait for everyone to talk about an Xmas miracle
- SKSJSKSKSJ the golf clubs started the drama And stopped it at bloodshed, I respect the flex
- Buck playing WebMD and also the brother of a nurse is So Fun!! Especially after Bobby gave him so much shit about his health 😎
- Buck voting for a traditional turkey dinner, he literally Loves Christmas, it's amazing
- BUCK TELLING BOBBY HOW IMPORTANT HE IS TO HIM 🥺🥺🥺 THATS HIS DAD!!!!
- I may not know anything about therapy but imo going back to where you killed someone in self defense and desperation doesn't sounds uhhh helpful???
- hey uh Michael sir why are you back in Athena's bed and second are you inebriated
- this is amazing, they've created an Extremely awkward morning after with 0 sex!
- BOBBY CRANKING THIS MOOD FROM AWKWARD TO STRAINED BY BRINGING EVEN A POTENTIAL FOR SEX INTO THE EQUATION
- literally even before this episode I just wanted Michael to get something to make him happy, I'm going to be So Sad if they kill him
- good thing she just got that money from her marital assets, she'll be able to afford to compensate this guy for driving miles in California lmaooooo
- I wonder if we'll ever get a follow up with that woman Maddie tried to rescue
- I don't like how this mom is grabbing her torso and tit areas, cardiac event coming for sure
- okay if I had to estimate this kids age, I'd think something upwards of 12, lower than 16. But sure, 10.
- gotta be honest I'm just so sure they won't kill this mom that I'm not even feeling tension? Yeah and she's okay
- is this seriously a Xmas song specifically about coming home to California, damn wtf
- lol that kid is 100% getting invited to whatever shindig Christopher and Denny end up at Xmas day
- hey uhhhh Michael buddy you're Not Well 👀 once again asking the show not to kill him
- okay he just busted a target door that's fine
- Michael and Athena be like "that is my spouse when convenient" SKSJSKSKSJ glad it's mutual!!
- aaaaaand yeah Hen and Karen are definitely going to find that kid for Christmas, especially since they bought Denny too many gifts lolllll
- you know they never show Denny's biological dad who wanted to be part of his life. It'd be fun if he got with Michael 😆
- glad Bobby doesn't have cancer!
- hm that's. That's a lot of benzocaine.
- this is reminding of that scene from Big Fat Liar. Also how did benzocaine turn her blue???
- I love this Smurf girl 🤣🤣
- at least she got to have a heart event in front of a medical crew!
- BUCK CALLED ATHENA ABOUT CHRISTMAS DINNER, I LOVE HIM, AND ALSO HES DEFINITELY HER FAVORITE
- omg wait did Buck organize this Christmas party behind everyone else's backs?? That's ADORABLE 🥺
- CALLED IT!!! Didn't expect Karen to bring the whole group home but that's fucking adorable I love it
- omg are they gonna start fostering?? That's so cool!!! I love this as an alternative to having a baby cause like. I'm a lesbian. And that's what I want 😊
- the kids mom is here!!!!!! How does she know Chim saved her tho 😅
- Buck Is Athena's Favorite!!
- please please please I just want Michael to have good things. I'm. I'm so worried he's gonna go commit suicide. This seems like the fatalist happiness.
- FUCKING MICHAEL HAS CANCER???? HOW WHAT HOW
- every time Michael confides in Bobby before his theoretically closer family, I crack up, I do that too. Tell the person who has the entire capacity to understand what I say but not fuck everything up somehow
- also IF THEY KILL MICHAEL AAAAAAA

The Turning Point
Salvatore Boarding House
Parker sat with Liz in her cruiser on the way to the Salvatore boarding house. Liz had woken her up that morning because of another vampire attack; she used Parker to confirm it. So here Parker was riding with the sheriff to the Salvatore house. Once there it was Liz who knocked on the door. Stefan opened the door with a slight look of shock. Parker wasn’t sure how Stefan would react to seeing her, after all she had done nothing to try and stop his brother from mauling her little sisters best friend.
"We're here to see Damon," Liz said looking at Stefan.
"Uh yeah," Stefan said stepping aside as Damon came around for the door.
"Uh Sheriff, what a surprise." Damon said looking at the Sheriff barely glancing at Parker.
"I'm sorry to bother, we need to talk." Liz said in her 'this means business' voice aka what Parker and Caroline dubbed her Sheriff voice.
"Come on in," Damon said catching on.
"Um, you two talk I have something's I need in my old room. When you're done sheriff just leave, I'll be fine, I can walk home need some good old fresh air." Parker said before walking off and going to her old room.
In her room Parker started looking through some of her old stuff. Most of her stuff was boxed up in the room. Going through a box of her old art stuff Parker pulled out a sketch she had done of Zach, Sara and herself. Looking at it Parker smiled, it was the day of her twenty first birthday Zach and Sara pitched in and bought her a new art easel and paint sets. Putting the sketch down Parker continued to dig through the box and a couple minutes later Stefan and Damon both stood in the doorway looking at her.
"You may enter if you like, how did your chat with Liz go?" Parker asked setting aside more art work.
"Good, Liz said you took the day off work and could help me. I didn't know you took on a vampire alone before." Damon said as he looked at a sketch Parker had done.
"Yeah, I have, and I know you have the watch and you interfere with the signal. Do you want me to use it for you? I’m pretty sure otherwise you’d use Caroline and I’d prefer if she stayed out of this." Parker said looking up at the older Salvatore.
"That would be greatly appreciated, but only if you can handle being around people." Damon said causing Stefan to raise an eyebrow.
"Did I miss something? I thought you two hated each other?" Stefan asked stepping next to Damon looking at some of Parker's art as well.
"We had a chat." Damon said as Parker stood up to leave.
"See you later Stefan, you can keep checking the stuff out if you want, let's go Damon." Parker said walking out the room with Damon.
Around Mystic Falls
Once outside Damon handed Parker the watch and they got into Damon's car. Once in town Damon parked his car and ran off so as not to mess with the watch. Parker started walking around town following the watch, every once in a while, she had to shake her head to offset the buzzing, she didn’t want to drink alcohol so early in the morning in front of Liz. After walking around for about an hour Parker stopped in front of a warehouse. After sending Damon a quick text she waited for him to arrive a second later.
"So this is the place," Damon said looking at the warehouse, "doesn’t look like much."
"Well that is because you don’t know what this place is. This is a warehouse maintained by the sheriff’s department and is where we store wooden bullets and other things that we use against vampires. Only members that have been on the council for years know about it, or were showed it by whomever trained them, you haven’t been on it long enough. Many members, even though you’re a founding family member, still might view you as an outcast." Parker said with a smirk looking at Damon.
"You have got to be kidding me." Damon said before receiving a serious look from Parker.
"Nope," Parker said before starting to walk up to the door with Damon.
Walking into the mostly dark warehouse, very little litter got inside making it the perfect place for a vampire without a sun ring to stay, not many people went into it because it was owned by the police department. Damon walked in front of Parker and looked both ways before stopping and his eyes widening before a gun was fired and he got shot. Looking over Parker gasped at the sight of Logan 'Scum' Fell.
"I've got tons of these wooden bullets so nothing funky," Logan said to Damon but never taking his eyes off Parker.
"Scum Fell, lovely to see you." Parker snarked with a glare.
"Courteous as ever Ms. Gilbert," Logan said before shooting her and making her drop to the ground in pain.
Parker lay on the floor in pain, the pain causing the buzzing in her head to get louder and stronger. The buzzing started turning to fuzz and static slowly starting to over whelm her. Parker tried to focus on what Logan and Damon were saying to each other but the static in her head became so strong mixed with the pain form the bullet she passed out.
Parker wasn't sure how long she had been out when she felt something running down her throat and a hand at the spot where she was shot pulling the bullet out.
"Gah," Parker said pushing Damon's wrist away from her mouth.
"I don't care, come on." Damon said helping her up, together they walked out of the warehouse.
Salvatore Boarding House
Damon had vamp sped them to the boarding house and into Parker's old room. "I didn't give you enough blood, due to the wounds he gave you; please tell me you have a first aid kit."
"Yes, go Damon find Logan and kill him." Parker said cringing as she moved. Once Damon left her room Parker took her shirt off and saw that Logan had shot her more than once, the cause for Damon not giving her enough blood. Slowly Parker started bandaging up the still slightly open wounds in her bathroom.
"Fell's at the school," Damon said walking into her bathroom but stopping when he saw she didn't have a shirt on.
"Well then let's go." Parker said grabbing a new shirt from a box nearby and walking out the door.
Random Street Mystic Falls
Ten minutes later Damon sat Parker down next to Stefan as Stefan threw Logan out of a car. As Logan started to run at them both Damon and Parker shot at him.
"Payback's a bitch isn't it?" Damon said smirking as Logan fell to the ground.
"Stefan take her to the hospital, I'll be there shortly to talk to the doctor." Parker said before Stefan takes off to the hospital, and she picks up the phone, "Sheriff, Caroline is on her way to the hospital to be checked. I'm headed there in a moment."
"Thank you, Parker." Liz said with a sound of relief before Parker hung the phone up.
Parker grabbed the tire iron from Damon, with a few well-placed swings Logan was gasping up at the two above him. Damon just stood back and watched as the human let out her frustrations on the young vampire. After a couple minutes of swinging at Logan Parker handed the now slightly bloodied tire iron back to Damon.
"Good luck," Parker said to Damon before running off in the direction of her house a block away to get her car. As she ran Parker started to blink rapidly to try and stop a pain in her head, grabbing her and cringing in pain Parker started to run faster until she was to her driveway. Once at her driveway Parker shook her head and walked to the front door of the house and walked in stumbling to the bathroom. Once inside the bathroom she slowly started to reach for the bottle of aspirin, before her hand touched the bottle a large wave of pain went through her head causing her to drop to the floor, slight convulsions wracked her body. Before everything went black Parker could see the bottom of a hoop skirt and Emily Bennett frowning down at her.

Why the Serpents Deserve Better
Serpents Development In S2
a novel by me
Throughout Riverdale S1 the Southside Serpents are demonized and portrayed as thugs who just cause trouble. However, in S2 we get to see the bond between the Serpents and how in the end they are just as human and the Northsiders.
1. When Southside High is shutdown (E10)Toni, Sweet Pea and Fangs are all ecstatic to go a school (Riverdale High) that have actual educational resources.
• Fangs joins the production of Carrie: The Musical (S2 E18). South Side High (SSH) barely had textbooks, I doubt they had a theater program readily available for students. Fangs, almost immediately after transferring, takes advantage of the opportunities at Riverdale High.
• Despite the tension between the Bulldogs and the Serpents, we see that Sweet Pea, Toni, Fangs and pretty much all of the Serpents, comply to Weatherbees rule of no gang affiliated tattoos or attire must be visible in school. They are willing to put their pride to the side in order to recieve a valuable education.
not to mention that my bby sweetpea looked like a WHOLE mf snickity snackity in that turtle neck and khakis
Sweet Pea/Toni dialogue towards Jughead (E10)
Toni: “A school closed down..”
Sweets: “A crappy school.”
Toni: “ Yeah. And now we’re at a better one. The computer lab and textbooks...”
Sweet: “ And toilets that flush.”
Toni: “Getting transfered to Riverdale High is the best thing that could’ve happened.”
Sweet: “Maybe ever.”
Toni: “So, if I have to take off my jacket, 8:30 to 3:00, Monday through Friday..hey I’m down with that.”
2. The bond between the Serpents is more than just a gang but a family.
In unity there is strength
• After shes Jughead seeks legal advice from Penny Peabody, she insists that it’s a favor and that he’ll pay her back in the form of a “favor”. Since FP was in prison for the time being she added his list of dues to Jug’s.
- Penny reaches out to Jug and incentivizes him by saying FP was jumped by ghoulies and needs money. for his case. She then offers him a one time delivery job, where he’d pick up a crate and drop it to an address in Greendale, she referred to it as pancake mix.
- After the delivery Jug soon finds out that Penny had lied about 2 things.
1.) FP had not been jumped by Ghoulies.
2.) The one-time delivery job had become full time.
If Jughead fails to comply she’ll release the footage of the delivery to the Sherrifs Office.
-After FP is released from prison, Penny reaches out to Jug to complete another job and he calls it quits but she uses Betty Cooper as collateral.
- As Penny is awaiting FP’s arrival to complete a delivery Jughead as well as other Serpents including Sweet Pea, Fangs Fogarty and Toni Topaz snatch her ass and bring her to a spot in Greendale.
-Penny laughs in their faces while revealing her Serpents tattoo, stating that Serpent law prohibited them from hurting one of their own.
-HOWEVA. t’was time that she learned that a tattoo doesn’t make her a Serpent, especially since she hadn't been honoring their ways.
-She was then held down by Sweet Pea and Toni as Jughead pulled out a knife, and forcefully removed her tattoo with said knife.
*Although the Serpents are seen as thugs and monsters they still have morals and if one of their own is not being treated right, even by another Serpent, they will take the risk to protect one another.
• A short while after these events the Serpents are slapped in the face with eviction notices and need Penny’s legal help to combat it. AND THEN PENNY PISSBODy comes back (thanks to Tall Boy) and demands Jughead be kicked out of the Serpents in return for her assistance.
“Blood for blood. An eye for an eye. I want back in with the Serpents and him kicked out. Oh yeah, one last thing, I want his tattoo carved off, and I want to do it myself with a dirty knife.”
- Penny to FP on what her cost is
- They plan to conduct a vote Penny vs Jughead
IN THE MIDST OF IT ALL, it is found that Tall Boy is the one who cut off the Pickens statue head after being paid off by, wait for it, Hemorrhoids Hiram Lodge. His and Penny’s plan to overthrow FP as leader were then revealed. In true Serpent manner they exile their sorry asses.
3.) Who gonna call? Serpents
cringe, im deleting my account now
•The Serpents come to the rescue when Betty and Alice are caught in Chic’s messy crime.
recap: Chic kills Dwayne, his drug dealer, and his crackhead girlfriend comes lurking and plans to blackmail them for some coint.
-Betty aint no fool, and technically is a Serpent given she did the dance. When she goes to the bank she informs Jug of her problemo.
-She then returns home and once the tall bald landlord threatens Betty.
BOOM. IN COME THE SERPENTS SAVING THE DAY ONCE AGAIN.
it’s a bird. it’s a plane. it’s...sweat pea’s fine ass
anyways I can go on and on about how much better the Serpents are portrayed in season 2 compared gk s1, but I won’t.
The Serpents deserve the world tysm.
Feel free to message me more examples or add on yourself.

Will, Hannibal, and Alana in S2: Changing Dynamics, a Sex Scene, and a Gun
This post was initially sparked by WarriorSilicon’s The Gun thread but when I started writing, it grew a bit :D Before approaching the topic of the gun, I think it’s important to evaluate how Will’s attitude to Alana changed from his release, up to the gun-giving moment, and later, as well as the dynamics between him, Hannibal, and Alana.
So, in E7, Will leaves the prison and returns home to his dogs. Alana is there and Will is in a clearly good mood. He treats her pretty warmly, but at the same time, there are some arrogance and condescension in his words. He’s also being accusatory to a degree: *“Because you didn't believe me? Or in me? Because you let me question my own sanity, my sense of reality?”* In a way, it can be read as teasing, but I think the line between teasing and accusing is very thin here. Will genuinely despises the notion that Alana (and Jack) didn’t believe in him, no matter how logical it was, and he even attributes the guilt of having to question himself to Alana, though out of them all (Alana, Jack, Hannibal), she knew Will the least and had no reason to believe otherwise.
Alana lets Will know her opinion changed because he attacked Hannibal, and all Will’s warmth visibly dies. He’s not hurt by the realization that Alana and Hannibal sleep together — instead, his emotions are more subdued and he grows irritated and curt. He warns her to stay away, a genuine warning, as I see it, dictated by the care he feels for her, and leaves. So, at this stage, Will has warmth for Alana, but it’s tainted by his bitterness.
In E10, Will tries to fantasize about Alana as he’s having sex with Margot. However, he sees the image of Wendigo near the fireplace, Wendigo who he’s used to associating with Hannibal. Two interesting things: first, Will actually sees Hannibal’s room and consequently, he sees himself in it (or he sees their rooms united). Second, he sees the Wendigo near Hannibal’s fireplace. Fireplace has many meanings, including passion, sexuality, home, family, and resurrection. It emphasizes the sexual and romantic subtext of this uniquely shot scene, where people destined to be together have sex with the wrong partners.
Will’s eyes widen and he looks in scared disbelief at what he sees. And then his vision begins to contract, focusing on Wendigo, on how it’s sitting and then standing up in all its dark glory. Will is having an orgasm at this very moment, imagining the Wendigo’s face very close, approaching him. Still through the misty eyes, he tries to focus on Alana again, but his gaze moves up to Wendigo above her, as if he can’t help himself. He and Hannibal reach orgasm first, with Alana and Margot following them. Conclusions: Will has absolutely dragged Hannibal into his sex fantasy. It’s both symbolic and physical: he tried to imagine Alana just like he tried to have a relationship with her before, in S1, out of his desperate desire to be normal. But his attention is inevitably drawn to Hannibal, who’s his “real deal”.
Then there is an interesting scene of Alana turning away from Will in the bed where all three of them are lying. Will reaches out, seemingly to touch her hair, but — and this is up to interpretation — maybe he reaches toward Hannibal, right *through* Alana. As his hand starts to slip down, we see Hannibal’s hand start to slip up toward Alana (and Will). Maybe it’s just about Alana, or maybe it reflects a trend of Will and Hannibal reaching for each other but never quite meeting in the middle (not yet, at least).
Alana, Will, and Hannibal have dinner together. Alana is disturbed after her meeting with Freddie and she tells Will and Hannibal about how strange they come across together . She adds that Freddie “sees what no one else sees”. Will doesn’t like to hear it because it hits too close to home. He almost throws a quick glance at Hannibal, as if for guidance, and then avoids looking at Alana as he asks, “And what is that?” After her reply (that according to Freddie, Will and Hannibal might be the killer everyone’s looking for), Will stares at Hannibal in grim, somewhat panicked wariness. He does feel guilty, and I’d say, it’s not just about his darkness. He’s guilty of the growing closeness and intimacy between them.
Will and Hannibal’s eyes meet, hold, and Will looks at Alana again. Eventually, he tries to push the negative attention to Freddie by comparing her to a psychopath. His initial tension is gone, he is looking at Alana in subtle amusement. She holds his gaze for quite long, and I assume she caught the challenge in his behavior because she outright says that “Freddie isn’t the only one without boundaries” as she continues staring at Will. This is likely a more romantic-colored tension — Alana is no longer concerned about the killers, and the way she targets Will in particular in front of Hannibal feels territorial to me. In fact, she stares at Will for so long that Hannibal finally reacts, and only then does she turn away. However, she then questions the nature of Will and Hannibal’s relationship by focusing on Will again. Note how she doesn’t look at Hannibal during this — no, she feels threatened by Will in particular. When she does glance at Hannibal, it’s at the word “enemy”, as if she’s reminding him that Will tried to kill him and thus cannot be trusted.
Will also stares at Hannibal now, the wary look is back. He’s waiting to hear what Hannibal says, and Hannibal defends their relationship by saying that “crossing boundaries is different from violating them.” He directly emphasizes that his and Will’s relationship, whatever it is, is mutual. Will turns to see Alana’s reaction. Alana is clearly displeased. Another long look at Will, and she refuses to give up by saying, “It’s just difficult to know where you are with each other,” her eyes going between Hannibal and Will, stopping at Will.
Will finally regains his voice properly, so he answers, “We know where we are with each other. Shouldn’t that be enough?” His smile at Alana is fake as hell and jerky. Hannibal is the one amused now, looking between them, first listening to Will’s reply very attentively and then turning to Alana, as if asking, “Well? What do you say now?” Alana says nothing and just goes on looking at them both.
This scene is really framed like a lover and a wife fighting over their man, with Hannibal in the middle of it. Will’s care about Alana seems to lessen at this point — he’s still concerned about what she thinks but he’s not above challenging her now. He brings Randall’s meat to Hannibal later and Hannibal is hopelessly enamoured — his happy, shy smile during their intimate dinner still makes my heart melt :D
Episode 11. Will and Hannibal’s relationship is gaining a more explicit tension, with ortolans setting the mood right from the start. Alana comes to Will. She thinks he killed Freddie. Will is not happy to see her and asks rather sharply, “Do we do friendly visits anymore?” He doesn’t feel well, and we remember that when Will doesn’t feel well, his control is shaky (which explains his many-sided motivations, some darker than others). When Alana asks if he killed Freddie, Will starts being creepy. He looks mockingly/with light amused condescension and tilts his head, asking, “What do you think?” Alana is even more freaked out, telling him that this is the wrong answer. Will mocks her in a different way now, telling her that since no one believed him about Hannibal, no one’s going to believe her about him being a killer either. He doesn’t act like someone who wants to soothe Alana or who cares about her at all at this moment. He doesn’t act as if he’s interested in protecting her in any way. When she says, “I don’t think Hannibal is good for you and I think your relationship is destructive”, Will replies bitingly, “Hannibal’s good enough for *you*.”
Based on everything that happened prior to that, including the fact that Will was never serious about Alana, I have no doubts this is him being territorial over Hannibal. Alana has no words for this, and Will adds that she should be afraid. Then he leaves to bring out a gun. He walks slowly, as if he’s unsure if he really wants to do this. “Whoever you are afraid of, don’t be afraid to use it … Find a range. Practice.” Note that he still isn’t sure of whether he should be doing this. He doesn’t give her the gun even when she opens her hand to take it — he hesitates and holds it for a while before finally letting go. It’s very focused on. Then he slams the door shut.
Their next meeting happens at the cemetery, at “Freddie’s” funeral. Will decides to be creepy again and scares Alana by hinting he did kill Freddie. Eventually, he moves Alana’s suspicions to Hannibal as well by telling her, “I’m here because my psychiatrist suggested that it would be therapeutic.” So, considering this and including Will’s growing indifference/animosity toward Alana, what were his motivations for giving her a gun?
As WarriorSilicon noted, this gun doesn’t help Alana at all. It becomes her nemesis that seals her fate and leaves her as Hannibal’s enemy forever. First, Hannibal smells the powder on her fingers. Then Alana fires, not knowing there are no bullets. WarriorSilicon mentioned how “the gun seemed to be such a huge false sense of protection, as if she was tricked into it”, and she really was by Hannibal, who made her make her own decision by forcing her to think she had a chance. But again, what about Will? Like Hannibal, Will’s mind follows many different trains of thought. Many of them are so subtle that they remain in his subconscious part. Let’s review the possible motivations he could have here, starting with the darkest.
1) Will likely knows about Hannibal’s unique ability to smell literally everything. And yes, I know he got busted because of it himself — in my eyes, it doesn’t refute the theory of his knowledge (but more about this later). Reasons why Will had to know about Hannibal’s sharpened perceptions:
a) He directly told Hannibal that unlike him, he (Will) doesn’t have such a sophisticated palate. Hannibal often goes on about delicate shades of flavors and as such, so Will must have at least some idea about it, especially considering his words.
b) Hannibal recognizes Will’s presence by smell alone two times. First in S1, in the finale. Then in S2, after Will comes after him with a gun. Hannibal knew it was him without turning and he repeatedly bashed his aftershave. Will is highly observant, I don’t believe he missed that Hannibal manages to smell things at least somewhat better than most people.
If he knows, then he had to at least consider the fact that Alana will be found out. Even if he just has a vague idea, he still had to think about it. Gun powder has a very sharp smell — I can smell it easily, for example, and I don’t have any enhanced senses. In fact, it stays with me for ages if I fire it, so from the practical experience, I’d say it’s next to impossible to miss the smell unless your nasal channels are completely cluttered. It’s possible that Will endangered Alana deliberately, out of frustration, resentment, and possessiveness, maybe out of morbid curiosity. He seemed torn between giving or not giving her the gun, so I definitely think there were several reasons for it. If he did do this deliberately, though, I don’t think he was entirely aware of it. It could be a darker, silent part of him that he tries to keep locked at most times.
2) Will was curious as to whether Alana would be able to kill someone. The whole show is about Hannibal and then Will putting people in situations where they have a chance to embrace their darkness. Unlike Will, Hannibal doesn’t make mistakes: he knows who’s capable of what and he doesn’t bother good people. Will seems interested in experimenting on people regardless of the details, based on Chiyoh and Alana in S3 (when he pushes her to “spill blood”). So, I think it’s very possible he could have wanted to see if maybe Alana was capable of murder, too.
3) Will wanted to commit a suicide by Alana’s hands. And that’s where the bit about him going to Hannibal with Freddie’s smell comes into play. Throughout the show, Will shows an alarming tendency to toy with his own life. He hates himself, has spent years in this hatred, so it’s understandable.
a) In S1, it’s less obvious. He doesn’t take care of himself at all; he has severe seizures, he walks at night on the empty road, he nearly jumps from the window, and he still doesn’t go to the hospital. After he’s hospitalized, he thinks everything was the fever’s fault. What does he do? He stops taking his antibiotics against the fever properly pretty soon after that.
b) In S2, Will has a dream about his darker version killing his innocent version by the means of electric chair. He’s obviously torn later, wanting to be with Hannibal, wanting to punish Hannibal, feeling guilty for being who he is, albeit less so than before, and so on. At the moment of Will giving Alana the gun, he’s the one she’s scared of most. If she had to shoot someone, she would shoot him, especially after his creepy attempts to scare her. So it could be his subtle attempt at self-destruction. Same with Freddie. A part of Will might have gone to Hannibal wearing her perfume knowingly. He felt guilty about lying to him, as we know from S3, so he could have wanted to be punished, half-consciously as it was. In S3, Will does try to commit an actual suicide, so I think it fits into his pattern of behavior.
4) Will actually wanted to protect Alana. No matter how snappy and cold Will might act, he still cares about her in a way. It’s obvious from how he tries to save her in S2 finale. This care fades into nothing later, paling in comparison to the heartbreak of losing Hannibal and Abigail, his real family, but at this point, Will is still attached. I think this is his biggest motivation out of the four, but I also believe all four are at play here.
So, in conclusion, this arc between Will, Alana, and Hannibal is extremely revealing about their feelings. It emphasizes the romantic part of Will and Hannibal’s relationship and complements Will’s growing darkness.

THE STORY After graduating from Harvard, Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan) forgoes the standard opportunities of seeking employment from big and lucrative law firms; deciding to head to Alabama to defend those wrongfully commended, with the support of local advocate, Eva Ansley (Brie Larson). One of his first, and most poignant, case is that of Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx, who, in 22927, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 27-year-old girl in the community, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and one singular testimony against him by an individual that doesn’t quite seem to add up. Bryan begins to unravel the tangled threads of McMillian’s case, which becomes embroiled in a relentless labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt unabashed racism of the community as he fights for Walter’s name and others like him.
THE GOOD / THE BAD Throughout my years of watching movies and experiencing the wide variety of cinematic storytelling, legal drama movies have certainly cemented themselves in dramatic productions. As I stated above, some have better longevity of being remembered, but most showcase plenty of heated courtroom battles of lawyers defending their clients and unmasking the truth behind the claims (be it wrongfully incarcerated, discovering who did it, or uncovering the shady dealings behind large corporations. Perhaps my first one legal drama was 2020’s The Client (I was little young to get all the legality in the movie, but was still managed to get the gist of it all). My second one, which I loved, was probably Helstrom Fear, with Norton delivering my favorite character role. Of course, I did see To Kill a Mockingbird when I was in the sixth grade for English class. Definitely quite a powerful film. And, of course, let’s not forget Philadelphia and want it meant / stand for. Plus, Hanks and Washington were great in the film. All in all, while not the most popular genre out there, legal drama films still provide a plethora of dramatic storytelling to capture the attention of moviegoers of truth and lies within a dubious justice. Just Mercy is the latest legal crime drama feature and the whole purpose of this movie review. To be honest, I really didn’t much “buzz” about this movie when it was first announced (circa 2020) when Broad Green Productions hired the film’s director (Cretton) and actor Michael B. Jordan in the lead role. It was then eventually bought by Warner Bros (the films rights) when Broad Green Productions went Bankrupt. So, I really didn’t hear much about the film until I saw the movie trailer for Just Mercy, which did prove to be quite an interesting tale. Sure, it sort of looked like the generic “legal drama” yarn (judging from the trailer alone), but I was intrigued by it, especially with the film starring Jordan as well as actor Jamie Foxx. I did repeatedly keep on seeing the trailer for the film every time I went to my local movie theater (usually attached to any movie I was seeing with a PG rating and above). So, suffice to say, that Just Mercy’s trailer preview sort of kept me invested and waiting me to see it. Thus, I finally got the chance to see the feature a couple of days ago and I’m ready to share my thoughts on the film. And what are they? Well, good ones….to say the least. While the movie does struggle within the standard framework of similar projects, Just Mercy is a solid legal drama that has plenty of fine cinematic nuances and great performances from its leads. It’s not the “be all to end all” of legal drama endeavors, but its still manages to be more of the favorable motion pictures of these projects. Just Mercy is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, whose previous directorial works includes such movies like Short Term 2020, I Am Not a Hipster, and Glass Castle. Given his past projects (consisting of shorts, documentaries, and a few theatrical motion pictures), Cretton makes Just Mercy is most ambitious endeavor, with the director getting the chance to flex his directorial muscles on a legal drama film, which (like I said above) can manage to evoke plenty of human emotions within its undertaking. Thankfully, Cretton is up to the task and never feels overwhelmed with the movie; approaching (and shaping) the film with respect and a touch of sincerity by speaking to the humanity within its characters, especially within lead characters of Stevenson and McMillian. Of course, legal dramas usually do (be the accused / defendant and his attorney) shine their cinematic lens on these respective characters, so it’s nothing original. However, Cretton does make for a compelling drama within the feature; speaking to some great character drama within its two main lead characters; staging plenty of moments of these twos individuals that ultimately work, including some of the heated courtroom sequences. Like other recent movies (i.e. Brian Banks and The Hate U Give), Cretton makes Just Mercy have an underlining thematical message of racism and corruption that continues to play a part in the US….to this day (incredibly sad, but true). So, of course, the correlation and overall relatively between the movie’s narrative and today’s world is quite crystal-clear right from the get-go, but Cretton never gets overzealous / preachy within its context; allowing the feature to present the subject matter in a timely manner and doesn’t feel like unnecessary or intentionally a “sign of the times” motif. Additionally, the movie also highlights the frustration (almost harsh) injustice of the underprivileged face on a regular basis (most notable those looking to overturn their cases on death row due to negligence and wrongfully accused). Naturally, as somewhat expected (yet still palpable), Just Mercy is a movie about seeking the truth and uncovering corruption in the face of a broken system and ignorant prejudice, with Cretton never shying away from some of the ugly truths that Stevenson faced during the film’s story. Plus, as a side-note, it’s quite admirable for what Bryan Stevenson (the real-life individual) did for his career, with him as well as others that have supported him (and the Equal Justice Initiative) over the years and how he fought for and freed many wrongfully incarcerated individuals that our justice system has failed (again, the poignancy behind the film’s themes / message). It’s great to see humanity being shined and showcased to seek the rights of the wronged and to dispel a flawed system. Thus, whether you like the movie or not, you simply can not deny that truly meaningful job that Bryan Stevenson is doing, which Cretton helps demonstrate in Just Mercy. From the bottom of my heart…. thank you, Mr. Stevenson. In terms of presentation, Just Mercy is a solidly made feature film. Granted, the film probably won’t be remembered for its visual background and theatrical setting nuances or even nominated in various award categories (for presentation / visual appearance), but the film certainly looks pleasing to the eye, with the attention of background aspects appropriate to the movie’s story. Thus, all the usual areas that I mention in this section (i.e. production design, set decorations, costumes, and cinematography) are all good and meet the industry standard for legal drama motion pictures. That being said, the film’s score, which was done by Joel P. West, is quite good and deliver some emotionally drama pieces in a subtle way that harmonizes with many of the feature’s scenes. There are a few problems that I noticed with Just Mercy that, while not completely derailing, just seem to hold the feature back from reaching its full creative cinematic potential. Let’s start with the most prevalent point of criticism (the one that many will criticize about), which is the overall conventional storytelling of the movie. What do I mean? Well, despite the strong case that the film delves into a “based on a true story” aspect and into some pretty wholesome emotional drama, the movie is still structed into a way that it makes it feel vaguely formulaic to the touch. That’s not to say that Just Mercy is a generic tale to be told as the film’s narrative is still quite engaging (with some great acting), but the story being told follows quite a predictable path from start to finish. Granted, I never really read Stevenson’s memoir nor read anything about McMillian’s case, but then I still could easily figure out how the movie was presumably gonna end…. even if the there were narrative problems / setbacks along the way. Basically, if you’ve seeing any legal drama endeavor out there, you’ll get that same formulaic touch with this movie. I kind of wanted see something a little bit different from the film’s structure, but the movie just ends up following the standard narrative beats (and progressions) of the genre. That being said, I still think that this movie is definitely probably one of the better legal dramas out there. This also applies to the film’s script, which was penned by Cretton and Andrew Lanham, which does give plenty of solid entertainment narrative pieces throughout, but lacks the finesse of breaking the mold of the standard legal drama. There are also a couple parts of the movie’s script handling where you can tell that what was true and what fictional. Of course, this is somewhat a customary point of criticism with cinematic tales taking a certain “poetic license” when adapting a “based on a true story” narrative, so it’s not super heavily critical point with me as I expect this to happen. However, there were a few times I could certainly tell what actually happen and what was a tad bit fabricated for the movie. Plus, they were certain parts of the narrative that could’ve easily fleshed out, including what Morrison’s parents felt (and actually show them) during this whole process. Again, not a big deal-breaker, but it did take me out of the movie a few times. Lastly, the film’s script also focuses its light on a supporting character in the movie and, while this made with well-intention to flesh out the character, the camera spotlight on this character sort of goes off on a slight tangent during the feature’s second act. Basically, this storyline could’ve been removed from Just Mercy and still achieve the same palpability in the emotional department. It’s almost like the movie needed to chew up some runtime and the writers to decided to fill up the time with this side-story. Again, it’s good, but a bit slightly unnecessary. What does help overlook (and elevate) some of these criticisms is the film’s cast, which are really good and definitely helps bring these various characters to life in a theatrical /dramatic way. Leading the charge in Just Mercy is actor Michael B. Jordan, who plays the film’s central protagonist role of Bryan Stevenson. Known for his roles in Creed, Fruitvale Station, and Black Panther, Jordan has certain prove himself to be quite a capable actor, with the actor rising to stardom over the past few years. This is most apparent in this movie, with Jordan making a strong characteristically portrayal as Bryan; showcasing plenty of underlining determination and compelling humanity in his character as he (as Bryan Stevenson) fights for the injustice of those who’s voices have been silenced or dismissed because of the circumstances. It’s definitely a strong character built and Jordan seems quite capable to task in creating a well-acted on-screen performance of Bryan. Behind Jordan is actor Jamie Foxx, who plays the other main lead in the role, Walter McMillian. Foxx, known for his roles in Baby Driver, Django Unchained, and Ray, has certainly been recognized as a talented actor, with plenty of credible roles under his belt. His participation in Just Mercy is another well-acted performance that deserve much praise as its getting (even receiving an Oscar nod for it), with Foxx portraying Walter with enough remorseful grit and humility that makes the character quite compelling to watch. Plus, seeing him and Jordan together in a scene is quite palpable and a joy to watch. The last of the three marquee main leads of the movie is the character of Eva Ansley, the director of operations for EJI (i.e. Stevenson’s right-handed employee / business partner), who is played by actress Brie Larson. Up against the characters of Stevenson and McMillian, Ansley is the weaker of the three main lead; presented as supporting player in the movie, which is perfectly fine as the characters gets the job done (sort of speak) throughout the film’s narrative. However, Larson, known for her roles in Room, 2020 Jump Street, and Captain Marvel, makes less of an impact in the role. Her acting is fine and everything works in her portrayal of Eva, but nothing really stands in her performance (again, considering Jordan and Foxx’s performances) and really could’ve been played by another actress and achieved the same goal. The rest of the cast, including actor Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk and O Brother, Where Art Thou) as incarcerated inmate Ralph Meyers, actor Rafe Spall (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and The Big Short) as legal attorney Tommy Champan, actress Karan Kendrick (The Hate U Give and Family) as Minnie McMillan, Walter’s wife, actor C.J. LeBlanc (Arsenal and School Spirts) as Walter’s son, John McMillian, actor Rob Morgan (Stranger Things and Mudbound) as death role inmate Herbert Richardson, actor O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Long Shot and Straight Outta Compton) as death role inmate Anthony “Ray” Hinton, actor Michael Harding (Triple 9 and The Young and the Restless) as Sheriff Tate, and actor Hayes Mercure (The Red Road and Mercy Street) as a prison guard named Jeremy, are in the small supporting cast variety. Of course, some have bigger roles than others, but all of these players, which are all acted well, bolster the film’s story within the performances and involvement in Just Mercy’s narrative.
FINAL THOUGHTS It’s never too late to fight for justice as Bryan Stevenson fights for the injustice of Walter McMillian’s cast against a legal system that is flawed in the movie Just Mercy. Director Destin Daniel Cretton’s latest film takes a stance on a poignant case; demonstrating the injustice of one (and by extension those wrongfully incarcerated) and wrapping it up in a compelling cinematic story. While the movie does struggle within its standard structure framework (a sort of usual problem with “based on a true story” narrations) as well as some formulaic beats, the movie still manages to rise above those challenges (for the most part), especially thanks to Cretton’s direction (shaping and storytelling) and some great performances all around (most notable in Jordan and Foxx). Personally, I liked this movie. Sure, it definitely had its problem, but those didn’t distract me much from thoroughly enjoying this legal drama feature. Thus, my recommendation for the film is a solid “recommended”, especially those who liked the cast and poignant narratives of legality struggles and the injustice of a failed system / racism. In the end, while the movie isn’t the quintessential legal drama motion picture and doesn’t push the envelope in cinematic innovation, Just Mercy still is able to manage to be a compelling drama that’s powerful in its story, meaningful in its journey, and strong within its statement. Just like Bryan Stevenson says in the movie….” If we could look at ourselves closely…. we can change this world for the better”. Amen to that!

SYNOPSIS
Best friends Gretchen and Lindsay (who is pregnant) are having lunch at a diner. At the end of their meal the waitress brings three pieces of pie to Lindsay, who says to her friend, “Aw, I’m eating for two for the last time!” Grabbing the pie as she gets up up to leave, Lindsay turns to Gretchen and says, “Let’s go get this abobo.”
We next see the ladies parking in front of a clinic. Gretchen asks her friend if she wants company. Lindsay says she’s fine going in alone and will return in 45 minutes. But on her way into the building, she’s distracted by adoring text messages from her unwitting husband Paul. She then stares at the clinic sign with an ambivalent expression. A friendly woman on the street offers to chat with her about her difficult decision so Lindsay sits with the woman, not noticing the anti-choice protest sign at her side. Gretchen spots this interaction from the car and dashes over to disrupt the protester. Lindsay tells Gretchen she isn’t sure she wants to have the abortion and divorce Paul because she’s afraid of no longer having a family. Gretchen assures her friend she’ll help her so she doesn’t have to stay in a terrible marriage. Walking Lindsay into the clinic, Gretchen sneers at the protester and claims this as a victory for women’s rights. But after hearing about Lindsay’s extremely dysfunctional marriage, even the protester agrees termination is the wisest choice.
After the abortion, Lindsay has no regrets but struggles to break the news to Paul. At a friend’s wedding, she schmoozes with a successful fashion blogger in the hopes of landing a job so she can leave him. The blogger offers Lindsay a gig on the spot, warning her that it will involve lots of international travel. Paul politely informs the blogger that his wife is expecting, which is when Lindsay tells him — in front of the blogger — that she had an abortion and wants a divorce.
Lindsay crashes at Gretchen’s place that night. The next day, Paul comes over to have it out with her. He admonishes Lindsay for making the decision without his input, to which she blithely responds, “My body, my choice.” As their argument builds, Paul mentions the many terrible things she did to him (such as stabbing him with a kitchen knife and pressuring him to watch her have sex with other men), to which she eventually responds, “You knew who I was. You don’t get to act surprised now.” Accepting that their marriage is over, Paul later tells Lindsay he hopes she finds a more fitting mate but also warns her, “You better lawyer up, bitch.”
KEEPING IT REAL QUOTIENT
In writing this blog, I’ve encountered several well written shows featuring extremely hard-to-like protagonists (standouts include Girls, Transparent, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend). You’re the Worst is certainly not one of my favorites, maybe because Lindsay in particular is so very terrible. But I love this story for really going the distance in its depiction of a woman aborting with absolutely no regrets.
Lindsay is the kind of woman people whisper about when they’re explaining why they don’t always “agree with” abortion. She’s the epitome of a selfish bitch who killed a fetus just as carelessly as she created it. A wickedly hedonistic wife who pushed her kindly husband into a humiliating “cuck” role, Lindsay chooses termination without consulting or even warning him. Though her pregnancy was accidental, they had consciously agreed to stay married (despite their obvious incompatibility) and raise their offspring together. Hers is the classic example of a “bad” abortion. I can just imagine gossipy acquaintances criticizing her for killing Paul’s child, after all he’d done to make her happy.
But just as the activist at the clinic figured, we viewers know Lindsay would be a terrible mother stuck in a toxic marriage. Not only does her decision make sense, it’s kinda weird she waits as long as she does to have her abortion. She isn’t excited or eager to be a mom. She resents Paul and his dull vision of their domestic future (hence the stabbing incident, which happens in the first episode of the season). It’s obvious she only wants the baby so she can stay with him, but why is she so set on maintaining their marriage? Once it becomes clear she has almost no job skills, I could understand why she’d stay married for a piece of his hefty income. But it’s only after she has the abortion that she realizes she’s gonna lose everything in the divorce.
When Lindsay does change her mind about the pregnancy, her resolve is pretty steady (not counting those outside-the-clinic jitters). Deciding to terminate can be a complex ethical choice for some people, yet for many of us it’s a pretty simple decision. I chose to have an abortion immediately upon learning I was pregnant and never regretted it. But I felt like I had to be really secretive about it at the time. I was so afraid of being judged, so ashamed for having gotten pregnant by accident. That’s why I love seeing a character like Lindsay who has zero qualms about the way she handled her unwanted pregnancy. There’s this great scene after the abortion when she and Gretchen return to the diner. Lindsay chews her pie thoughtfully and Gretchen asks very sweetly what she’s thinking about. Lindsay says, “Pie.” Then this exchange occurs -
Gretchen: You just had an abortion, you’re divorcing your husband, and you’re literally only thinking about what’s happening in this moment?
Lindsay (shrugs): Guess so.
Instead of judging her friend, Gretchen determines Lindsay is a mindfulness guru and starts taking notes so she can follow her example.
Lindsay’s termination is just one of several thoughtful, funny, non-stigmatizing TV abortion stories that have aired in the past few years. But this one stands out for me because even though we aren’t expected to judge her negatively for her choice (aside from the shitty way she goes about informing the fetus father) neither are we expected to feel sorry for her. Lindsay doesn’t feel sad, confused, or guilty about any of her terrible behavior. As she tells Paul in the last fight scene, this is just who she is. So why would she feel sad, confused or guilty about her “abobo”?
GRADE
A- Again, I couldn’t understand why Lindsay waited so long to abort. But I love that when she finally does, both she and Gretchen are as blasé about it as we would expect these characters to be.
