they both struggle with art-related physical and mental health issues, and complicated families
#outdrawn#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#sapphic books#I thought this was decent! I liked the concept (even if I got distracted by some art related things…)#and the dynamic between the characters was good. I enjoyed their relationship development broadly speaking#and the emphasis on communication; though it was a quick flip into being together all of a sudden.#The sketchbook doodle flirting was cute. Some interesting exploration of their complicated family situations too.#There’s a lot of exploration of burnout and carpal tunnel and the dangers of artists overworking which I think are important conversations#and are done with some nuance. But it’s pretty much all discussed in the context of the personal pressure they put on themselves#rather than the industry corporate greed and artificial competition created by the comic platform - which are significant in this story!#It felt odd that that connection wasn’t really ever made?#I know that this is a romance and nitpicking the background plot is beside the point and also that I am not a big romance reader#but the premise that the comic hosting site archives everything; wipes the leaderboard; and out of nowhere has a comic competition for#new weekly chapters…I’m sorry but the art world would riot. Even if people enter because they’re desperate for the cash they’d be pissed#People live off the income from their webcomics! if they were erased (temporarily) with no notice…..there would be crimes committed istg#I simply don’t believe that it would be doable to create a new weekly webcomic with no notice while you also have a full-time comic job#(especially as the only stylistic choices mentioned are full-colour) - not to mention what happened to their 8-years-running webcomics#that were archived? they don’t think about them at all after the beginning? surely they’d care about that?#And then with their new comics they make for this competition (after work I guess) we get vague snippets about them but barely anything#- if they’re consuming that much of your time I would expect to feel like they’re thinking about them all the time#rather than the vaguest discussion about genre and cast numbers only.#I guess I just think the whole comic site stunt felt unnecessary for the plot anyway -#it would have worked exactly the same if they were just competing on the normal leaderboard with their normal comics???#anyway - I’m not judging TOO hard about all that because again I know it’s not the point and maybe the industry is like that in some place#Unfortunately it was distracting enough to affect my feelings on the book tho lol.#Lastly: the audiobook………oof. The narrators talk at different speeds; for one.#And Sage’s VA does this deeply weird raspy-anime-teen-boy voice for Noah which is such an odd choice#and doesn’t match her character at all.#unforch my library only had the audiobook (what I usually prefer) so I just had to sort of….translate the narration into a normal voice lol#anyway the romance is good tho

i was so excited about the shadow levels and what stuff from his backstory that we could see and black doom being the main villain that for a moment i lived in a world where the worst voice actor shadow has ever had wasnt still in the role

#yes this is about tokyo teddy bear. i think it's good and it doesn't make them all break their voices to sing#and literally every complaint i've seen has just seemed like an excuse to give it to any other unit#your issue with honami being “too soft” isn't going to be fixed if vbs or n25 had it kanade and kohane are still there#(and they give honami the correct lines for her voice as well. the way she was implemented fits)#but idk maybe it is a crime to put a very high pitched song in a lower pitch for your vas sake. who knows#i think some people need to consider if they like this game or they just like complaining#in other words: ttb cover is good. mv is good. rip to the rest of you i guess

unpopular opinion…. i don’t like those touchstarved VA’s that have been circulating 😭 i think they’re too gruff and deep for leander and ais. Leander has a smooth voice to me that’s very casual.
and Ais has a very slight gruff but it’s not as intense or deep. it’s kinda crackly but medium in tone.
there’s this voice in my head that’s Mhin to a T, it’s gotta be someone i’ve heard before but i can’t remember!! grouchy for sure
kuras is soft spoken yet authoritative, a bit cheeky in tone, maybe breathy. i think he has those breathy laughs. He speaks clearly though.
vere is the only one i kinda vibe with, being a honeyed sultry voice with some snark.

WHY do no virginia colleges have nonfiction mfa programs except for the one i don't really like the nonfiction faculty at. it's not fucking fair.
(warning so much whining occurs in the tags)
#i am 90% confident that i could get into that one first try and get funding and not have to move but that's the problem#i want one where admission feels like a challenge this one admitted a person i knew in freshman year whose writing i thought sucked shit#and i realize that 'writing sucked shit in 2018' doesn't mean they might not be very good now but...... idk. one of the two nonfiction#faculty members just writes politics journalism which is NOT CNF!!!!!! the students seem really cool but that's true anywhere!!#but everything else i have to move states and risk jennys career for. and i dont want to do low res bc i wanna learn to teach#i realize that it's just a case of 'you want too fucking much katia' but it's not faaaair va has so many good colleges & no good cnf progra#the real answer is i will apply when i planned (a year from this fall) and let fate decide and jenny is smart and cool and will find a job#with the awareness that i'm limiting my mfa applications to large metropolitan areas for reasons besides Job Availability For Wife#it's just all so complicated and stressful#and to add insult to injury pittsburgh would be way easier than the midwest but THAT TOO has professors i like less#and faculty is key yknow#anyway the school i'm dunking on here will probably be my safety regardless i'd rather have An MFA than none at all i think#but bluhhhh it makes me sad#i would happily go to tech or uva if they HAD A CNF PROGRAM#well okay maybe moreso uva but only because tech is in the middle of nowhere#RIGHT AND ALSO UMD#WHICH FUNDS 100% OF THE PEOPLE IT ACCEPTS BUT AGAIN: NO NONFICTION#i shoulda been a fucking poet

#connor watches dr3#dr#kyoko’s saving was a boon but Let me be clear IDC. my survivors survived thats all i (emotional) (happy ending enjoyer) care about fr#the anime itself was actually really good tho. i watched sub And dub bc fuck crunchyroll but both were solid (bc its mostly the same cast#as the games but Whatever). i prefer some english vas & some japanese vas across the characters but no one was unbearable (except english#monokuma actually sorry i know greg ayres is iconique or whatever i fucking hate his monokuma 😭😭#but very good overall i think. with some glaring issues but a good sendoff to the hopes peak era i think. i just wish uhhh [looks at v3]#[clenches fists] we’d gotten maybe something Else as a Next Danganronpa Story. whatever. ill be replaying v3 soon enough#and i can yell Then.
