"Oh spoiler alert, my character is the only one that doesn't have a name, you have assign me one, the same way you name yourself. They even designed the characters to resemble all the VA's and add in some of their personalities, isn't that sweet?"

"Hahaha y-yeah definitely sweet! I'll be sure to check it out soon!"

I found Touhou on IMDB and then it got worse.

So there's a bit of a story behind this, as there should be with any post. I have spent the past *checks clock* fifteen minutes and counting losing my goddamn mind over this.

Touhou 1-11, including 7.5 but not 9.5 or 10.5 for some reason, are all on IMDB. This is not that strange, as many video games are listed there for their writing or voice credits. What's weird is how I discovered this. I heard a voice in, of all things, a four and a half hour video about the Lego Ninjago show and how badly it fumbles its women. One of the characters sounded a bit like Azula ATLA so I checked. It was not the same VA. Then I saw this.

And then I saw this.

Now the sharp-witted amongst you may have noticed the tiny little inconsistency that

TOUHOU DOES NOT HAVE VOICE ACTING

Touhou has never had voice acting, especially not back in 2003 when PCB came out. There's also the detail that Layla Prismriver does not appear in PCB, nor does she appear in any Touhou game outside of her mention in the character profile of the Prismrivers, which firmly establishes her as very dead and thusly incapable of speech. You'll be pleased to know that it continues to get worse.

This is not the plot of PCB. What the fuck do you mean only one of these heroines intends to stop it. The cast list is also fucking bizarre.

Merlin and Lunasa are here but fuck Lyrica I guess. Alice and Youmu are not credited and REIMU ISN'T HERE EITHER. Youki Konpaku is credited. Youki Konpaku is not in this game. The goddamn Saigyou Ayakashi (which is spelt disastrously wrong here of course) is given a voice credit. THAT IS A TREE. THAT IS A TREE THAT DOES NOT TALK IN A GAME THAT DOES NOT HAVE VOICE ACTING. I AM GOING INSANE. WHERE IS REIMU.

Now obviously what I did at this point is start checking the other ones, and th8, 9, and 10 don't really have much interesting going on other than a continued and bizarre lack of Reimu in all of them. 6, 7.5, and 11 however are all bizarre for fun new reasons. Let's start with Subterranean Animism and work backwards.

I was suspicious of the lack of images so I went to check all of their pages and they're mostly men as far as I can tell. Most of them are credited in a film called Sule, Ay Need You, which a brief google has only barely convinced me is a real film that exists in the first place. It has a wikipedia article in indonesian. One of them, however (the only one with a picture) has been in eleven million different things with reasonably big parts. I have no idea what's going on here. With the player character situation there are eight characters uncredited not including Koishi, who is also nowhere to be seen (which feels strangely appropriate) and Sanae who I remembered literally as I was typing this is in th11.

Moving on to Immaterial and Missing Power:

Also I'm pretty sure Meiling wasn't in IaMP? (According to a quick google she was added in a patch but not given a story mode). Anyway the sudden appearance of Reimu is the only real interesting thing here because random cast absences are just so commonplace now. Now lastly for the weird fucking pages we have the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and oh wow this one is something else.

Where do I even begin. Reimu is gone again. Three separate people are credited as Remilia. Actually most characters are credited twice except for Marisa and Sakuya for some reason. Sometimes they specify (voice) and sometimes they just don't. Most characters have [Character Name] and [Character Name (Voice)] which implies that one person is doing mocap or operating a puppet or something while another voices them but then there's just Rumia and Rumia. Who voices Rumia. Remilia has three fucking credits. Marisa and Sakuya get to be normal people. Reimu and Patchouli are just fucking gone. What the hell is happening.

And now it gets stranger once again because I said th1-11 earlier, not th6-11. The PC-98 games are all here too. However. Those pages are all just. Normal. ZUN is credited as the writer. There are correct plot summaries. No voices are credited. The name format is even different (Touhou [Number] [Japanese name]: [English name] instead of just Touhou [Japanese name]: [English name]). They're far too good quality. It honestly feels like whoever uploaded the PC-98 games is a different person to whoever's been doing their bizarre uploads of the windows games.

Now at this point I was looking for other interesting stuff to add - IMDB has Did You Know segments that had fun little details about the games, which seemed to be accurate. It also has a More Like This section linking to the other pages and-

what can I say. it's the no.1 highest earning joseimuke of recent times for a reason. i wouldn't say it was the founding father of male idol franchises but it's undoubtedly important for them and the popularization of them. the characters are enjoyable and the story writing is (sometimes) done pretty nicely. when the songs hit well they hit GOOD. with a cast of over 50 characters you're pretty bound to find someone you'll enjoy, you know. there's a nice variation on unit archetypes that is great for music variation :]

SUCH a unique concept. I love it so much. Delivering insight into characters crimes and psyches through music?! Genius. And the music all slaps too. The VAs are all super talented, the voices all sound different from one another, and even when a character's music style switches between T1 and T2 to reflect their mental state, there are still things making it obvious it's the same character. Also the VA for Haruka (best character in MILGRAM) is the guy who voiced Linhardt (best character in hit turn-based strategy RPG Fire Emblem: Three Houses for the Nintendo Switch) in the JP soooo. Awesome and based, Fire Emblem fans vote for this one. (Also I think there's other overlap of VAs with Fire Emblem but like Natsuki Hanae has been in everything so of course there is)

genuinely so sooo interesting to me from a standpoint. not only is a franchise that runs and happens in direct response to what the fans decide to do with it but also the songs and mvs are sooo good and it's such a nice thing to see coming off of deco, feeling like a passion project with all the different song style and experimentation going on in them. ive been there since the beginnings and its a great feeling to see just how much everyone involved in the project be it art, music etc has improved. the moral experiment point of it is something very curious to follow for me and see people discussing their votes or takes on things as to why they voted for x thing or another is nice! the deco song remixes that always come with the characters album release are (mostly) fire too. milgram my best friend milgram

these are very incendiary questions

I mean the obvious answer to the first is that I didn't like Infinity Train. I went out of my way to watch it when it had just been cancelled so that if it was good I could raise my voice alongside the other people in order to defend it, but I genuinely think it was one of the most unpleasant watching experiences I've ever had, especially Season 4. Kez in particular is truly one of the worst executions of a character I've seen put to screen.

I also got a lot of flack for complaining about the way children's media handles generational trauma as a theme. Speaking as someone with some pretty impactful generational issues on my mom's side, I dislike how it sets up a parental or grandparental figure as the root of all evil and then "resolves" that by having the lead character go "You are being mean!" and then said parent/grandparent just turns their personality on a dime to create a "happy ending". It just feels so disingenuous and it's the kind of lesson that will get kids hit in the face with a shoe.

Of course, the two big examples I used were the two relevant ones at the time, Encanto and Turning Red, so I got accusations of being racist etc. etc., twitter.

That's very funny because Turning Red and Everything Everywhere All at Once have the same three-generational divide setup and the same culture of origin and I think the latter movie managed to stick the landing in the exact way I think Turning Red missed.

I don't have a lot of popular characters I've voiced but people have walked up to me in person at cons and stuff and given me porn of my characters, which is insanely awkward.

I did a "Did You Know Anime" narration on Baccano! once and I just really phoned it in. No idea why, it's just an awful performance. I still feel kinda bad about that.

RWBY Evermorrow Ep.7 Director's Commentary (or something)

The newscast segment was a late addition, we decided it was best to move a scene to a later episode for a better sense of narrative. I even already animated that whole scene so we don't need to worry about it!

We were gonna use Lisa Lavender here, but decided it was better to use Cyril due to availability of existing cast members as the scene was kind of last minute. We see it as Cyril being the guy in the studio, and Lisa being the reporter in the field.

Khaki's prison number is funny if you can decipher it.

Originally this episode was a big ol scene of RWBYCRDL recounting the mission to Oz and Glynda, then the punishments being dished out, but I was having such a dull time writing it that we decided it was best to cut the recap of the immediate previous episode and hope the teams' reactions did the work. I think it was for the best, a glorified recap episode seems like it would've been a waste of production; if it wasn't fun to write it wouldn't have been fun to watch.

It was a good time to bring in Glynda as she's always been Beacon's voice of reason around Oz's more whimsical tendencies. She's to-the-point and will make no excuses, which sells the teams being reprimanded more. Plus the added questioning of what exactly Ozpin is saying to Cardin offscreen is an interesting question in the viewer's mind.

(Also our Ozpin VA was kinda unavailable but for a very good reason lol)

Let's talk Dove. You've probably noticed he's very much the reasonable one on EM CRDL at this point, which is very intentional as going in I wanted to make them more interesting than Cardin and the Cardins. CRWBY once said Dove was the most skilled of CRDL, which is an interesting angle, and Doves are a symbol of peace which inspired me to make him the """nicer""" one, albeit a bit embittered by his lot in life. This episode has a montage of the moments in ep5-6 that really lay it all out that he's a little better than the others on his team, which is why Ruby vouched for him.

There was going to be a decent focus on family in this episode, but eventually we whittled it down to just Russel's and Dove's. Being like "oh and here's a character's parent being funny and mad" worked twice, but three to eight times might have gotten old lmao

Why did I pick Bertilak for Russel's guardian? Green. Mohawk. Moody. Not a big Faunus fan.

Okay so that's only part of it. Russel has been consistently portrayed as a bit of a doormat in EM, following Cardin's orders or deferring to the next biggest fish if he's not around. His actions around Bertilak imply that the latter is the source of all that behaviour.

Dove offers Ruby an "Olive Branch". I don't know if I can get more unsubtle than this.

Don't ship them they literally feel nothing about each other. That's canon.

Why did I pick Shopkeep for Dove's grandpa? Closed eyes, and Shopkeep is everywhere. That's literally the joke.

There were a few characters I really wanted to get involved sooner. Can you believe it took us till Ep7 for Ren or Nora to say anything? It felt good to have all of JNPR and OP(A)L fully animated in the same scene, and was fun to set up dynamics like Oscar being a fanboy, Alyx being a little shit and the two teams generally getting along.

In comparison to 6 this episode was a lot calmer and a lot more talk-y, but hopefully we managed to make it fun. The animators and VAs did amazing as always (the former has basically eclipsed my efforts at this point), and I'm looking forward to ep8 very much! Bigger and better!

I've been wanting to do an English dub comparison of all the main villains VAs (those that have multiple anyway, looking at you, Volo). This was the project I was working on, and I think I'll upload about two or three per day 👍

There's also the Pokemon Live! version of Giovanni, voiced by Darren Dunstan, that's actually my favorite VA for Giovanni overall (largely because I always really, really liked Pegasus's voice--one of my first voice crushes--and he uses the same voice here 😂), but I wasn't sure whether to count it or not since it wasn't used in the animated series proper.

He sounds pretty flat in Generations, but all of the other voices used are pretty solid. Hard to choose between Andrew Russell and Ted Lewis tho.

As another aside, we never did find out what that whole thing between him and Nanu was, did we? It sounded like they knew each other from before Nanu became a police officer, which was character info unique to the anime that I really wish we got more on.

Out of all the “villains” Valentino is the most effective because he’s actually threatening. Everytime he and Angel are on screen together theres a shift and scene gets very uncomfortable and unease because Valentino can actually hurt angel. He’s bark and bite. I’m more mad they viv and the va are trying to baby him and saying he’s just a big dumb drama uwu baby XD lol, because either viv is too ashame to admit she has a rape kink which there’s nothing to be ashamed about owe that shit, or she’s accidentally made a character she really likes a villain is front to gaslight people into thinking he’s not all bad? Idk it’s very bizarre to try to make light of a rapist, this like family guy quagmire level of gaslighting

Honestly, I feel like Valentino's all over the place with this. Every once in a while he'll have a moment where he's dangerous and intimidating or legitimately charming, and then Viv will ruin it because she can't write consistently to save her life.

Like the scene where he's leaving Angel messages and he's all "Amorcito, come home, it's not the same without you <3" and it works for a second, you can see how Angel fell into his arms and into his trap, and then the very next message he's yelling "KILL YOUR WHOLE FUCKING FAMILY" in the Curly Three Stooges voice he keeps lapsing into.

Ok so of all the things about Baldur’s Gate that everyone keeps saying are amazing, let me put this one out there, because this is a thing I’ve been yelling about for easily a decade:

The voice actors know what they’re saying.

Like, here’s the usual flow for a voice actor in a major, triple-A rpg like, say, Mass Effect. The team pulls and prints a list of every line in the game for a specific character, and only those lines, and that “script” is handed to a voice actor. If there are weird alien words, someone might have thought to add a pronunciation guide. And that’s it. That’s all they get.

So you end up with a game where three different characters pronounce the same name in three different ways. You end up with a game where a character says “A bottle of [space drink] for whoever bags the most bad guys!” and another one says “that’s a sucker bet, you drank the last of the [space drink] last night (emphasis on space drink, like, you consumed a space buff so you’ll obviously win)” instead of “you drank the last of the [space drink] last night! (emphasis on the fact that it’s gone, and therefore there’s nothing to win).” You end up with a game where a character says “no one has thanked me” as though no thanks are being given to anyone, when the line should have been “no one has thanked me” because the entire point of that line is that everyone else except that character has just been thanked, and pointing that imbalance out is core to the scene. When a voice actor puts the wrong emphasis on a sentence, it changes the whole meaning, and when a voice actor has no context, it is inevitable that they will sometimes pick the wrong emphasis!

And I don’t know what Larian is doing backstage, but in however many thousand lines of dialog, I have not found even one of those yet.

In fact, very early in the game, there is a moment where the narrator is called upon to say a single word. One word. No surrounding sentence. No contextual dialog whatsoever. That word is “perfect.”

You read that as “PER-fect,” didn’t you? The adjective? Of course you did. That’s the natural reading. Literally any native English speaker, seeing that word in isolation, would automatically assume it was the adjective. 99% of the time, that’s what those letters mean.

The word was actually “perFECT,” the verb. “To improve a thing to its best form.”

And she gets it right.

Because someone told her what the fuck she was supposed to be saying.

Whatever else nonsense the industry does and does not take from this game’s production, I really hope “giving your poor VAs some godforsaken context improves the game” manages to sink into the brain of even one single other producer, somewhere.

got voice claim vids on the mind and if youre like me, you dont really watch movies or tv shows or maybe you just cant remember That One Guy with The One Voice so heres some good places to hear some voice acting happening

Fire Emblem from awakening to three houses has some voice acting in it and as a franchise, a shit ton of fucking characters. you can find support conversation videos for some voice clips. three houses is fully voiced. bonus of this franchise is voiced critical hit lines, incase ur lil guy is feral or a fighter. videos of those lines exist too.

Dragon Age has a bunch of great voices and theres companion banter videos on youtube. origins, II and inquisition all have fully voiced companions but II and Inquis have voiced MCs as well. hawke from II has three versions (blue, red, and purple) blue being the good kind lines, red being aggressive and violent, and purple being the Little Bastard Sarcastic lines. the inquisitor unfortunately doesnt have this same system, but there are multiple races in Inquistion with different VAs. Elven, Dwarven, Human or Qunari.

Elden Ring has some good voice actors and im sure theres gameplay videos of specific characters. i was able to find a video of Blaidd's quests to hear his voice, there might be more videos like that. Atleast- You can use listed VAs for elden ring as a starting point for more of their work or youtube video searching.

i think Genshin Impact has a decent VA library. Though i know the least about this one.

Critical Role has highlight videos you can watch and you can skim episodes to find a PC voice or NPC voice you might like. Okay I need to vent a little because of your Vil post. So I had a crush on a voice actor after seeing his personality on live streams. Just really loved his vibes and personality. So I want to try reaching out, see if I could get a chance to talk and get to know him and hopefully still like him and tell him so, but I'm nervous and asked 2 people for advice. First I only told them he was a stranger, but after finding out all his DMs were closed I told them he was a VA and how do I approach him with no DMs and not appearing like a fan. And these 2 people I asked just tell me that I have a celebrity crush and I'm really reaching here and that I'm actually just a fan of him so I shouldn't reach out. One even asked if I like the idea of him or the real him.

And that really bothered me. Because first off, does ANYONE who approaches someone they don't know personally "like the real person or the idea of them"?! There's a reason for approaching them, and if it's successful, you get to know the real person and then make informed decisions. I wasn't trying to jump into anything with the VA, I was trying to take the first step to getting to know him. Then the part about me just being a fan- I've only seen 1 thing he voices in, and while that was what led me to his streams, it's not what made me interested in him. As I said, it was his personality that I assumed was his own and not the character's. Even though I think he's talented, I'm not even interested in watching other things he's been in, so how much of a fan am I? Then there's the 'celebrity' aspect. I admit that I didn't realize how popular he was compared to his peers at first (doesn't that make my interest in him more genuine though?) but at the same time, I don't feel like he's a 'celebrity' celebrity. He only has a couple of big roles as far as I'm aware. And I've never been into celebrities- don't care about them.

So yea- got pretty frustrated for having my feelings labeled as something I feel like it's not. Gave up on the crush, too, after no success reaching out. Ugh. I need to re-read that Vil post now to feel some fantasy validation.

I think the problem is that he's a celebrity. his DMs are closed for a reason. Many people have already commented on the Hazbin Hotel season 1 trailer, so I would like to add a couple of my thoughts.

- The animation in the trailer was not bad. Yes, there are still some questionable shots and the animation looks strange at times, but it's better than what we got before. Or my expectations are so low that even this level can satisfy me;

- But I can’t say the same about the design and colors. They were terrible and uncomfortable for my eyes and still are. I especially remember the shot with Angel in the new suit. The idea of ​​making him a different suit is good, but the result is questionable;

- The new VAs sound...ambiguous. On the one hand, they are clearly trying and it turns out well, but one gets the feeling that they were told not to voice the characters, but to try to sound the same as in the pilot. Then I have a question: was it really necessary to abandon all the actors in the pilot if new ones are forced to play the same thing? If the problem was the inability to sing, then it was possible to assign two actors to one character as was the case with Alastor in the pilot. Personally, the only new voices I liked were Charlie and Vaggie. The others (especially Angel and Alastor) sound unusual and strange.

- Also in the trailer we finally saw and heard Adam. And he is a copy of Mammon. I saw the leaks and know what this character is, but even so I was shocked that they inserted exactly the same character into another show. This is a problem with imagination or Vivien doesn’t know how to write villains differently;

- We were shown Mimzy, Razzle and Dazzle, but not Lilith and Velvet. The first is the mother of the main character and the wife of Lucifer himself, and the second is one of the three villains of the series, but there is practically no information about them;

- So we will have eight episodes of 20-30 minutes each (I’m not sure about that) and a huge number of characters. The plot will first have an idea about the redemption of sinners, where there will obviously be a clash with VVV (Alastor vs. Vox, Angel vs. Valentino, Velvet vs....), and then there will be a war with angels. And this is all in the first season? Is it just me or is that too much for eight episodes? And if heaven is finished in the first season, then what will the second be about? And since they are at war with heaven, the idea of ​​the hotel and half the plot become meaningless.

Season 4 Episode 1 No Album Release (Read More)

It's not all too often that I get the opportunity to talk about truly hated SiIvaGunner jokes on here. After all, there's a reason those memes become hated to begin with, starring in rips that are arguably not very worth celebrating, going against the whole point of this blog. Still, we've had some moments here and there to discuss instances of fanbase outrage: A large chunk of Season 5 was defined by the reactions to Astronaut in the Ocean and Yankin', which was presented as a quite literal battle in Epic Rap Battles of History: Funny vs. Funnier and something I explored further in Snow halocean and Aquarium in the Ocean. There's of course more beyond these - Snow Halation's hate brigade in early Season 1, The Bean, Amuno, Chicken and Chips...but whenever I think of truly despised SiIvaGunner memes, none come to mind more prominently than the D.VA fart. Yes, it's time to finally go there, to find out just what led to D-VA DISCO being made.

If you weren't following SiIvaGunner in the days of Season 4 Episode 1, you may well be confused to what the fuck "D.VA Fart" is even referring to - hell, barring her prominence in more degenerate circles, you may well be confused as to why an Overwatch character of all things would have such a prominent role on the SiIvaGunner channel. Well, as fate would have it, it's in those degenerate circles that we'll need to begin to find the origins of this bizarre meme....hoo boy, okay. While Overwatch was still the hottest game on the planet, a video of a certain cosplayer throwing it back whilst dressed as D.VA began to circulate around the internet, sometime around 2016 or so. It was the sort of video that managed to completely leave its intended adults-only demographic and began being shared around with comedic intent, in large part because of the way it opens - the cosplayer's booming "Nerf THIS!" followed by a resounding clap of the cheeks. One thing led to another, and eventually one user had the brilliant idea of inserting a giant farting sound partway through the video, only elevating its spread in online circles for trolling. It was all a truly bizarre week or three on the internet - a phase that, somehow, Season 1 of SiIvaGunner managed to completely circumvent.

Yet as I've mentioned on posts like Sex - Steve Harvey, a stated goal for Season 4 Episode 1's run was to bring the channel back to that unpredictable, chaotic, borderline incoherent vibe that Season 1 often had, due to the near complete lack of quality control and lack of expectations placed upon the team. And while the season would later become far more prominently defined by the King for Another Day tournament and its buildup with rips like September, we still had a fair share of moments that truly felt like 2016 never left - none better to exemplify this than the bizarre, out of nowhere use of the aforementioned twerking video and its audio. As mentioned prior, SiIvaGunner has a storied history of being in conflict with its audience, one that was turned into a whole story arc with SiIvaGunner: Rebooted specifically about the importance of spreading love instead of hate - yet on the VERY FIRST D.VA fart rip, the dislikes were already reaching astronomical heights, a near 50/50 like-to-dislike ratio. This, obviously, just signaled to the team that their attempt to strike a nerve had worked - and so, the "NERF THIS!" reverberated around the channel for weeks therafter, a ghost haunting the channel with users ready in the comments to warn fellow fans to be wary of the incoming farts.

And, like, there's not really a grander narrative to this in the same way that Astronaut in the Ocean or The Bean had - the team just kept using the D.VA fart video, its audio, D.VA voice clips from Overwatch and various other stock fart sounds in increasingly more bizzare ways throughout August of 2019 just to fuck with us. Their stated goal to deliver something truly unpredictable for the season had been met - yet, perhaps the MOST unpredictable thing that could've happened therafter, was making a D.VA rip into an actual banger. Sure enough, after more than a dozen rips of the gamer girl shitting herself, we were treated to an absolute brain-melting curveball in D-VA DISCO - at once a tribute to the meme's rise in attention over the past month, and to one of the most celebrated and well-renowned YTPMVs of the past decade.

SEN-TRY DISCO by wazgul is one of several thousand pieces of absolutely beloved Team Fortress 2 fan content released during the game's heyday, all the way back in 2013. I'm not a Team Fortress 2 fan myself, granted, but its fanbase's reach across online culture is absolutely undeniable - and I suppose, to one ripper's mind in 2019, this reach was comparable to that of the D.VA Fart's reign in 2016, a parallel made clear through how Overwatch and Team Fortress 2 were so often pitted against one another as team-based multiplayer shooters. And so, with SiIvaGunner's new villain being used, we received D-VA DISCO: Using voice and SFX clips of D.VA from Overwatch itself to recreate SEN-TRY DISCO beat for beat.

It's of course lovely just in concept as a tribute to an olden time of shitposting, sort of sentimental in the same way that I described Maskettaman - Dr. Pavel's Fly​-​So​-​Good as being, but the real strength of the rip comes from just how much YTPMVs have grown in the six years between SEN-TRY DISCO and the rip in question. For being in part made with the intent of poking fun of SiIvaGunner's own audience, the attention to detail throughout D-VA DISCO is fantastic - the soft clicking sounds of D.VA's mech added to the percussion in particular really tie together the various voicelines to the hi-tempo instrumental in the background. Those voiceclips meanwhile, like the initial G-GO-GO-GO's that introduce the melody, feel layered together in such a satisfying way, with a seamless-ness that just didn't appear to be feasible to achieve back when SEN-TRY DISCO was made. The clips just continue to shine from there in implementation, and it all culminates in a rip that's an outright earworm. That, of course, is the case with most YO-KAI DISCO rips, YO-Kai Direction from just last month included - yet no matter what form a rip of the track takes, I'm always subconsciously singing "Go-Go-Go-Go-Go Right-Up-Down!!!" to myself, the gamer girl officially having infiltrated my cranium to a terminal degree.

The rip, of course, all still culminates into the D.VA we all know and hate on the channel - a solid twenty seconds of rendering the song's ending with the Nerf This-fart pitch-shifted to the melody. And so, D.VA Fart runs three for three in unpredictability - appearing out of nowhere to make some of the most hated rips on the entire SiIvaGunner channel, suddenly appearing in a rip as genuinely excellent as D-VA DISCO, only for said rip to rebound back into the intentionally-awful territory in which the meme began at the very last second. It's brilliant, like an insane combination of factors that we'll likely never see done again to the same degree for a SiIvaGunner meme - and it has cemented the rip as an all-time hidden-gem favorite for me in retrospect.

Missus Nerf-This sort of faded away after her reign in Season 4 Episode 1, yet she still makes surprise appearances from time to time - she was a key player in one of Season 5's audio dramas, and sometimes (like, funnily enough, on Big Sus Chocobo) the clip is just deployed at the end of rips as a very funny jumpscare. Never quite leaving as much of a legendary legacy as The Bean, nor attaining as much of a gradual following as The Nutshack or Astronaut in the Ocean...D.VA on SiIvaGunner, the little shithead that she is, seems content in staying as that one meme that everyone just loves to hate. I can't really recall just how, when or why we all became so content in just enjoying rips of a cosplayer ripping a fat one, but it's oddly sweet to see even jokes as loathed as this have some sort of relevancy, being used from time to time even today: Be that in surprising displays of raw quality, or as regular reminders to never try to predict the SiIvaGunner team's next move.

So I watched the first episode of TDI on four different dubs:

With the grand power of "easily changing audio and subtitles on Netflix" I spent an unholy amount of time watching the first episode of TDI in both European and LatAm version of Spanish and Portuguese, these are my notes.

Latin Spanish

Names:

TDI is called “Isla Del Drama” which directly translates to “Island of Drama”

The screaming gophers are called “Los Topos Gritones” which translates to “The Screaming Moles”

The Killer Bass are called “Los Bagres Asesinos” which translates to “The Killer Catfish”

Intro:

I didn’t like it at first, simply because it didn’t have the same raspy vibe as the English one, but I grew fond of it! They still can’t reach those high note tho.

Voices:

Chris’ voice is iconic, I may be biased but damn.

My favorite voice deliveries are Beth’s, Leshawna’s, Duncan’s and Owen’s, for some the acting approximates the English ones while other give them a bit of a twist but still fit the characters!

Noah and Cody’s voices are spot on characterization wise, in a different approach than the English version. It’s neat but also I kinda want to punt them in the face, y’know?

Dear god what did they do to Geoff’s and Lindsays voices. Harold’s voice is also certainly interesting, can’t even describe it.

Localizations:

Latin Spanish dubs tend to not have a lot of country specificlocalizations because they’re meant for nearly an entire continent and the slang in Latin American countries can vary so much and have wildly different meaning, so not much to write here.

That said, Leshawna tends to call guys “muñeco” as in “doll”

And guys call each other “viejo”, which while it is our version of “dude” it directly translates to “old man”

Castilian Spanish

Names:

TDI is just called Total Drama Island, they just say the English name with a Spanish accent.

The Screaming Gophers are called “Las Ardillas Chillonas” which translates to “The Whiny Squirrels”

The Killer Bass are called “Las Truchas Asesinas” which translates to “The Killer Trouts”

Intro:

They straight up didn’t translate the intro, it’s literally the English intro, I can’t believe it.

Voices:

Chris doesn’t have that surfer dude voice in this dub but he so very much sounds like an enthusiastic host.

Listen I’m trying so hard to be unbiased but... I just find the Castilian accent inherently funny, they all sound goofy to me, that said all the voices are super solid, they all get the vibe and acting right.

Favorite voice deliveries are Duncan (by far), Beth, Bridgette, Leshawna, Eva, Owen… shit do I have favorites?

Cody’s voice is extra puntuable here

Harold’s voice sounds like he’s constantly running out of air, breathe my dude.

Localizations:

They use a lot of Spaniard lingo, as expected.

As always, Spaniards localized “dude” as “tío” which directly translated to “uncle”

Leshawna calls guys handsome often but it’s not in a flirty way, I was unfamiliar with this.

The pronounciation of some of the character names irks me, Leshawna included but specifically Courtney.

Brazilian Portuguese

Names:

TDI is called “Ilha Dos Desafios” which directly translates to “Island of Challenges”

The Screaming Gophers are called “Esquilos Berrantes” which translates to “The Berrating Squirrels”

The Killer Bass are called “Robalos Assassinos” which translates to “The Killer Bass”

Now THESE vocals are raspy! The na na nas are at a lower pitch compared to the English version which is certainly interesting, I liked it!

Voices:

I very quickly grew to like Chris’ voice here, idk just something about it

FINALLY a dub that gives Beth a lisp!! Also Owen sounds like his VA had a fun time voicing him :)

Other favorite voice deliveries are Lindsay, Heather, and Courtney.

I’ll say the voices are pretty good, they all fit them very well!

This is the only dub of the three that doesn’t give Harold a really weird voice

Localizations:

“Dude” is localized as “cara” which again, equivalent but also directly translates to “face” and I feel like they say cara a lot.

They weren’t lying Duncan does really call the chicks “gatihnas” which is a way of calling woman sexy but directly translates to “kitty”

The Communal bathrooms joke change to go a bit like “Communal? But I don’t know anything about politics!” “Not Communist, Communal.”

European Portuguese

Names:

Ezekiel’s voice, I can’t even describe it, he sounds like smokes 20 packs a day and is dying of lung cancer as we speak.
