ILLEGIBLE’S TOTALLY SUBJECTIVE FAVORITE EORZEA COLLECTION DESIGNS: MALE

I’ve mentioned in the past, the main thing that made me start playing FFXIV properly was seeing people’s character designs. I’m still honestly blown away by the creativity and range of approaches people bring to this game, so I’ve decided to be an absolute madwoman and break my favorites into subcategories to share with anyone curious.

And to be clear. I’m not going to do something so broad as “oh top ten in-general :3″ because that would be sensible. No, I’m going to do it for all the current combat jobs. And all the current races. And different genders within the races and combat jobs as things stand. And I’m going to make a model-focus subcategory. And there are gonna be LOTS. Because I seriously cannot understate how inspired I’ve been by this community, and after however many years I just feel the need to vomit some incredible visuals I’ve encountered at you guys lol.

NOTE: In an abundance of caution, I want to stress this list isn’t a value judgment on anyone but a fragment of things that blew me personally away. Looking at the DRK sections it will be immediately clear that I Illegible really like that edgy dark knight aesthetic lmao, but there are plenty of non-edgy dark knights that I also love to bits. Other people might not like edgy dark knights. Due to a combination of size and search constraints plus trying to keep gear somewhat varied, these glamours are just what wound up on this particular list of mine. I could make another list one day. Other people can make lists too that are totally different.

A Sneak Peek

In the year 2138 AD there was a term: DMMO-RPG. That word was an acronym for “Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game”. It was a revolutionary new way to play games that used virtual reality and nano-technology. Among the myriad DMMO-RPGs that thronged the market, one of them stood head and shoulders above the others: YGGDRASIL.

That game had been painstakingly developed and released twelve years ago, in 2126.

Compared to other DMMO-RPGs of the time, YGGDRASIL’s selling point was player freedom; it had over two thousand basic and advanced job classes.

Every class had a maximum of fifteen levels, and so in order to reach the overall level cap of one hundred, one would need to take at least seven different classes. However, players could take as many classes as they wanted as long as they met each class’s prerequisites. A player could even take a hundred classes at level one each. As such, in that system, it was exceedingly difficult to make identical characters unless one was deliberately trying to do so.

One could use various creator tools (sold separately) to fully customize one’s armor, weaponry, flavor text, appearance, and other cosmetic settings. A vast playing field awaited its players. There were nine worlds in total: Asgard, Alfheim, Vanaheim, Nidavellir, Midgard, Jotunheim, Niflheim, Helheim, and Muspelheim.

In essence, YGGDRASIL boasted a massive world, numerous classes, and freely customizable appearances.

It was inevitable that it would skyrocket in popularity and infinite the muses of millions of creative players.

Of course… that was all in the past now.

A gigantic table carved of gleaming black stone sat in the center of a luxurious room, surrounded by forty two chairs. Of all of those chairs, only three were occupied.

One of the seated attendees was clothed in a magnificent black academic robe edged in violet and gold. The collar was excessively gaudy, but it still melded well with the overall design. The person’s head was exposed, revealing a bare skill. Points of dark red lights glowed in its large eye sockets. Behind that skull pulsed a halo of black radiance.

Further down the table was a being that was not human either, merely a mass of black, sticky substance. Its tar-like surface roiled and writhed continuously, never staying in shape for more than second.

At the very end was a person who at a glance could pass as human, if not for the pointed ears and wings at their back. That person wore magnificent priestess robes of silver and blue. Its halo at the back of its head illuminated its long curly white-blonde hair.

The first attendant at the table was an Overlord, the highest-ranked of an undead magic-caster. The second was an Elder Black Ooze, which boasted the most powerful corrosive ability of the slime families. The last was a Seraph Empyrean, the highest-ranked of an angel-raced healer.

One might encounter those monsters in the most difficult of dungeons in YGGDRASIL. Overlords could use powerful curses or spells of the highest tiers of magic; Elder Black Oozes were dreaded for their ability to degrade weapons and armor; and Seraph Empyreans were universally despised when found near bosses.

However, they were not game monsters, but players.

In YGGDRASIL, players could choose their character races from three broad groups: humanoid, demihuman, and heteromorphic.

Humanoids were the basic player type and comprised humans, dwarves, wood elves, and the like. Demihumans tended to be ugly, but possessed superior attributes to humanoids. Examples of demihumans were goblins, beastmen, ogres, and so on. Finally, heteromorphic races had monstrous abilities, but despite their stats being generally higher than those of other races, they also possessed various drawbacks. There were around seven hundred playable races in total, including the advanced versions of those races. Naturally, the Overlord, Seraph Empyrean, and Elder Black Ooze were among the high-tier heteromorphic races that were playable.

The Overlord—who was speaking at the moment—did not move his mouth. That was because even the most advanced DMMO-RPGs of the time still could not overcome the technological hurdle of properly modelling the changes on a character’s face in response to emotions and speech.

He spoke in a jovial tone, “It’s really been a while, Herohero. Although this is the last day of YGGDRASIL, we didn’t expect you to show up.”

The slime wobbled. “Indeed it has, Momonga.” The slime nodded in the direction of the Overlord, then at the angel who nodded back in return. “Lumière.”

“How has work been for you?” asked the angel.

The slime sighed, letting loose a small tirade of complaints. Momonga and Lumière listened patiently as their friend vented.

After about ten minutes, the torrent of words that flowed from Herohero dwindled to a trickle.

“...I’m sorry for making you listen to my whining. I can’t complain much IRL.”

“It’s really no worries,” assured Momonga. “We’re happy you were able to come by at all.”

“Ah. It was so nice to see you both after so long. I was afraid to find no one here.” Herohero’s tentacles waved at both of them. “But it is getting late… How long will you two be on?”

“Until we’re automatically logged out once the servers shut down,” answered Lumière.

“Since it’s still a ways off, we might get more visitors like you,” added Momonga.

“Ah. I hope so. I see you both have taken good care of this place.”

Momonga and Lumière did not respond, neither of them wanting to show the surge of mixed emotions Herohero’s words caused.

There were a few more parting words, but eventually, Herohero left and it was only the two remaining members once again. Momonga sighed again and Lumière spared him a glance. Their expressions could not be relayed through their avatars so she sent him a frowny face instead.

The quiet disappointment was understandable. Their guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, had slowly died out over the years as more and more members left the game. In the past two years only Momonga and Lumière regularly logged on. They had sent emails out to the other members of the guild asking for them to join them on the final day, but unfortunately only Herohero responded.

“I’m going back to the tower,” said Lumière. “Meet up later?”

“Yeah. I’ll talk to you in a bit.”

Lumière left after that point, teleporting to the Hidden Tower at the 10th floor of the Great Tomb of Nazarick.

The Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick had once been a six floor dungeon, but it had been dramatically altered after Ainz Ooal Gown took control of it. Currently, it was a ten floor dungeon, and each floor had its own unique theme. The First to Third Floors were modelled after a tomb. The Fourth Floor was an underground lake. The Fifth Floor was a frozen glacier. The Sixth Floor was a rainforest. The Seventh Floor was a sea of magma. The Eighth Floor was a wasteland. And the Ninth and Tenth Floors were the realm of the gods—in other words, the home base of Ainz Ooal Gown, which had ranked among the top ten of YGGDRASIL’s thousands of guilds. In the Tenth Floor there were a few hidden areas, although only one was regularly used—The Hidden Tower.

The entrance was hidden in the Throne Room. It was a tower built by Lumière, Blue Planet, and Amanomahitotsu as a hidden level. Not that it mattered since the only raid that came close to it was stopped in the Throne Room.

The tower had five levels, the first three dedicated as testing areas for Nazarick’s lead Researcher, Jack. The fourth floor was a luxurious library with a big fireplace, and lots of comfy spots to lounge in. At the top of the floor was Lumière’s room.

Upon entering the tower Lumière stopped before the Tower Guardian, Cheshire.

In a game like YGGDRASIL, guilds enjoyed several benefits if they possessed a guild base of castle tier or higher. The NPCs that the Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick could field were undead monsters. These automatically spawning NPCs—or “pop monsters”—had a maximum level of thirty. Even if they were destroyed, after a while they would respawn on their own, at no cost to the guild. However, players could not customize the AI and appearances of these “pop” NPCs. They were hardly useful in deterring intruders, who were universally players.

There was also another type of NPC; the ones designed from the ground up to their makers’ satisfaction. If a guild possessed a castle-grade guild base, the owning guild would be allowed nine hundred levels to be distributed between any number of NPCs they wanted.

Because the highest level in YGGDRASIL was one hundred, by those stipulations, a guild could make seven level one hundred NPCs and four level fifty NPCs, or any combination thereof.

When designing an original NPC, one could customize weaponry and other equipment in addition to clothing and appearances. As a result, one could create NPCs that were far stronger than the automatic spawns and place them in key locations. Of course, not every NPC had to be designed for battle. A certain guild which called themselves the “Kitty Kingdom” fielded no NPCs other than cats or cat-related creatures.

It was a nice guild to visit.

Cheshire was one of those specially crafted NPCs. It was a shapeshifting fairy created by Lumière. Its default form was that of a dark cat with stripes and an eerie smile that showed several rows of sharp teeth. It was heavily inspired by the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, albeit with a more malicious mindset. It was designed to use “illusions” to trick players when entering such as changing what they see on screen to something else, or swapping what keys did what and so on.

Cheshire always floated down to whoever entered the tower. Its default setting would be to greet whoever came. It had a special message tailored for all the Supreme Beings.

“Welcome back, Mistress!” greeted Cheshire. As Lumière was its creator, she designed it to greet her as mistress, or my dearest lady. She gave the same order to her other creation, Jack.

Jack was stationed at the first floor of the tower. He was near some desks in the lab designed to look like a mad scientist laboratory. Lumière made up his character, leaning into an assassin-lich trope. She almost went with the skeletal appearance, but Bukubukuchagama talked her out of it. Bukubukuchagama bemoaned how there were already plenty of other “scary” monsters in the guild. She tried to bribe Lumière to make Jack a genderswap like her Dark Elves, but Lumière resisted. She compromised as a bishie. Or at least as much of a bishie as an undead could get.

Not that anyone could see it since Jack wore a mask.

That way he could appear as a “scary” monster to befit the evil lab, but in actuality, he was a pretty boy underneath which satisfied Bukubukuchagama. A happy Bukubukuchagama meant free visual novels for Lumière which in turn made for a happy Lumière.

Win-win all around.

Lumière brushed past both of her creations, stepping in to the laboratory and looking around.

Well, it is the last day, she thought as she glanced over at her creations.

“Come with me,” she ordered both of them.

Neither responded, both simply stepping closer to her. Er, well, Jack stepped forward while Cheshire hovered closer. She guided them up the tower to her favorite spot in Nazarick; the cozy little library.

With a wave of her hand she turned the fire place on and took a seat on the lush, red couch in front of it. She let out a slow sigh as she stared at the flickering flames.

She hadn’t even realized so much time had passed, she had zoned out watching the flames dance. That had been happening with greater frequency the past couple of weeks. Lumière’s body in reality wasn’t in good condition. It was a struggle to even get out of bed, her lungs slowly filling with fluid each day. She’d need another draining surgery in a month.

Her fatigue caused her mind to drift away, not quite falling asleep but close to.

What will I do when they shut the game down?

It was a question that had occurred to her several times, but she never found an answer. It wasn’t that YGGDRASIL was the only game she ever played--Civilizaiton CXI and Warhammer were nice ways to pass time, but YGGDRASIL was special to her. Ainz Ooal Gown was a place she finally had proper friends.

Lumière closed her eyes. What a shame.

Lumière knew something was immediately wrong when the first breath she took was not one hampered. She reflexively breathed deeper and found that it did not incite a fit of coughing. Her eyes shot open and she abruptly stood up from her seat.

Even the movement came with ease.

What in the?

Lumière twisted her body one way to another, breathing in the scents of--

Scents?! YGGDRASIL couldn’t mimic smells.

But lo and behold Lumière could distinctly smell the fire. It had a odd woodsy scent to it, as if it were scented logs burning inside. Lumière had never gone camping before, nor had she experienced fire first hand in her life. She marveled over the odd smell it emitted, sniffing delicately at it.

I quite like this smell, she thought.

“My dearest lady?”

Lumière twitched in surprise, looking over at Jack. The NPC had approached Lumière, a hand placed over his chest where his heart would have been had he not been undead. Jack, like all of Nazarick’s NPCS, had two default outfits: battle and casual. The battle would originally have only been triggered during a raid, so he currently wore his casual.

Lumière had been pretty huge into Sherlock and anime at the time of his design, so he was heavily inspired by an anime version of Jack the Ripper.

He had a black ulster coat with the collar flipped up. Underneath was a white button up shirt, and black and red suit vest. He had the classic dark white gloves, and black slacks to complete the look.

Oh, and of course the famous top hat. Could never, ever, forget the top hat for someone inspired by Jack the Ripper.

Lumière opened her mouth to say something but rapidly closed it. She placed a hand over her chest, breathing.

I can breathe easy. I have a sense of smell and touch. Is it--did I die?

Isekais were rather popular. Given her sickly body it wouldn’t have been too much of a stretch to say she passed away and had no memory of it.

The end result was still the same: she was in her avatar’s body. A body strengthened by a hundred levels and not plagued by illness or frailty. A smile curled her lips and she said, “Jack, how are you today?”

A question that an NPC could never answer unless specifically programmed for. Lumière had never given such line to Jack which meant that if he answered--

“Lovely now that I can gaze upon you,” he answered, stepping closer.

A surge of embarrassed adrenaline shot through Lumière at his intensely warm tone. Ah, wait--

She had almost forgotten how she programmed Jack’s personality. Leaning into the guild’s theme of “monsters” and “evil” she pushed on with his serial killer design. Cruel, sadistic, obsessive, and dangerously smart. She went all out, using a character design sheet Tabula put together. Lumière wasn’t as inventive or imaginative in the edgy department so she asked Ulbert to help. Ulbert had already made a pretty evil demon, Demiurge, and was delighted to try his hand at an evil undead serial killer.

At the end of the design she, as giggling joke with Peroroncino she added that he was a yandere for her.

Ahahahaha… I’m sure it’ll be okay.

「Message from Momonga」 Came here… you’re really in the game, too?

「Message to Momonga」 It looks like it. I can breathe without trouble.

「Message from Momonga」 Ah. I’m happy for you. I’m going to conduct some tests to make sure I can cast more spells. Do you want to meet up in the arena?

「Message from Momonga」 Yeah, I’ll meet you there.

“Cheshire,” Lumière said, raising her hands up. “Come here.”

The fairy disguised as a monster cat floated over with a wide smiles. “Yes, Mistress?”

She reached out and the monstrous feline leaned into her palm. She felt his fur, his warmth, and beneath it all a heartbeat.

Jack responded with an answer on his own, Cheshire is warm and has a heartbeat, I can move freely… I’m here. This is real. They’re real.

Lumière smiled shyly, taking Cheshire into her arms. He was fluffy and warm. “We’re going to the arena to meet with Momonga.”

“As you wish, my lady,” demurred Jack while Cheshire flicked his tail.

MASTERLIST!!!!!!!

Hello everyone and welcome to my Masterlist! Below you will find a bunch of films and characters I am writing about. I know there are a lot but a lot of them I am planning but I haven't started writing, a few of them are already completed and the rest, I am currently working on. If I do not update very often, it is probably either because I have writers block (which is not very often), or I am very busy with school work. You will find that some stories I am currently updating often in my Quotev profile: FairyofHogwarts, but they do not appear here until I am done with the book, with a “part” or with a “season”. The reason I only post them here once they are done is because 99.9% of the comments I get on Quotev is “When will you update?” “UPDATE!” even when I updated literally just hours ago -_-. Not only that, it is a lot of hassle and copying and pasting to do from Quotev to here as well as to my Wattpad profile Jadecross4ever. That is why I wait until I am done with a big hunk before I move it here:) If you want to read my stories that I am currently updating every so often, check out my Quotev account.

James Read

In My Arms (ongoing)

Summary – What if Corinna never died on her journey to Jamestown to wed James Read the blacksmith? What if she survived and when James Read stood at the warf, awaiting the arrival of his soon to be bride, he met shy, past abused, but loving Corinna Grant. No one thought that someone could work their way into James’s hard as iron heart but Corinna was different and there may be hope for the stone faced blacksmith of Jamestown and the shy but caring little “maid to make wife”.

Warnings – Unsure as of yet but most definitely: fluff, angst, mentions of abuse, death, mentions of blood and injury, smut.

(Just a note, if ya’ll don't know anything about the tv show or James Read, definitely look into it! It is a fun, intriguing frontier, colonial story and it worked its way into my heart even though it was not as high on the rank like the Witcher, GOT or Mandalorian. Just a note to those who have seen it, I have nothing against Jocelyn and I respect that she and James have a relationship in the show but due to the fact that the show ended on a sort of cliffhanger, and the fact that Jocelyn is a spoiled little princess, I wanted to justify the story for my own sanity and give James the love that he deserves:))

Summary – Jack Frost is officially a guardian but there are things about the past that he does not know about yet. When he learns that there is a fifth guardian before him by the name of Scarlett Autumn, Spirit of Autumn, he will stop at nothing to find out her back story, no matter how painful and heartbreaking it is. What he does not realize is that the Autumn Spirit may have enough warmth up her sleeve to melt his heart.

Warnings – None, kissing, fluff, angst, mentions of betrayal, some fighting but nothing worse than what is in the movie:)

Just as Zuko is making friends with her, she is banished for doing the right thing. What’s worse, she left behind a journal and told Zuko to fill it with his troubles and the answers to each trouble. However, by the time Zuko journeys to find the Avatar, he has more troubles than answers… that is until he meets a special someone who may be able to help him find the answers.

Warnings – Some mentions of violence, torture, blood and loss.

Salice is 5′9 (175 cm) and has a strong, yet soft mesomorphic body type. Her skin tone is a warm russet brown. She has black-brown hair that is to her mid-back. It can vary from tight curls to loose waves, depending on how it is styled. Her eyes were emerald green before the events of the game, and a curse has now rendered them black. She has a round and upturned nose, thick and defined brows, and curvy lips. The same curse that changed her eye color also gifted her top row fangs and fast growing nails. She also doesn’t age physically, so if you were to look at her, you’d think she would be in her early to mid twenties.

Her Curse:

Iliochorís- A special type of Vampire hailing from the deep recesses of the Devil’s realm. Becoming an Iliochorís is a punishment the Devil gives you to spite you in life when you have angered him, especially when you have circumstantially escaped death and cannot be punished in Hell.

Canon Backstory: (Warning Blood and Demonic Worship)

The Communication of Elsmaic Followers:

Salice was born as Lakshmi Elsma in the small island city-state of Orasas, a daughter state of Prakra. Her father was a priest and the religious leader of the Communication of Elsmaic Followers, a practice that had been in her family for hundreds of years. The basis of the cult was the exchange of material goods to the Devil for the passage into the cycle of reincarnation. Once the Devil’s will for your lives was done, you could rest within the eternal gates of Harborage. This was the safe utopia of Hell designated for Elsmaic Followers to live.

The Elsma family were the ruling bloodline of the cult. It is said that they are born with the Devil’s power inside their blood and therefore, they are ordained to lead. They are not eligible for reincarnation but they are guaranteed into Harborage unless the Devil has a different verdict.

This cult was devout in that its followers had to dedicate most of their time and wealth to their practice. Because of this, the Elsma family was very wealthy and lived in a large, ancestral palace on a cliff face. It was widely known across Orasas as the Cradle of Favor.

This cult had only a small exclusive following amongst the upper class of Orasas in the generations of Lakshmi’s grandfathers. However, the practice quickly spread and word got to the lower classes of the city-state. Grand Communicator Osiris Elsma went against the traditional practice and spread word of the religion to everyone that wanted to hear. He believed that everyone should have a chance at the Devil’s salvation. While the Communication Elsmaic Followers was founded in deeply sinister purposes, Osiris was trying to change it for the better.

The way you are communicated into the cult is that you must drink the blood offering of the Grand Communicator or one of the heirs. The closest thing to compare this to would be a baptism. (The way the helm of Grand Communicator was to be passed down is that the heir had to drink the blood of their father in a special ceremony. In the case of a deceased father, the heir was drink their own blood to be enacted.)

With the surge of new Followers, Osiris needed help from his daughters to provide blood for the communication ceremonies (Daughters are normally quiet in this practice, never taking a forefront in the ceremonies or in the worship). Lakshmi and Rhadika started serving at their father’s side from a very young age.

Consequently, when his two daughters were subjected to the public eye, speculation coursed amongst the original Old-Way Members of the cult on who was to be the next Grand Communicator. The leader of the Elsmaic Followers was traditionally designed to be a man. In spite of this, Grand Communicators were limited to two children, so that the power would not be coveted by many siblings and the cult would not be without heir if one was killed. In this way, Osiris would not have a male heir.

He waited for as long as he could, trying to find a solution. When his wife Nandini fell ill and became barren, Osiris knew there was no other option. So he announced to the Followers that his firstborn daughter and Lakshmi’s sister, Rhadika, was to be the next Grand Communicator. At this time she was only fourteen. Lakshmi was six years old.

The Old-Way Followers of the cult, as they like to call themselves, were thrown into furious uproar. It was taboo for a woman to be in place of power, let alone the leader of the whole cult (although women were allowed to practice magic and the two sisters were trained in the arcane arts). So in the upcoming year, the Old-Way Followers planned a coup to overthrow Osiris and his family and punish them for their blasphemy against the Devil and his wishes. This meant purging the cult of anyone that was poor, newly communicated, or part of the Elsma bloodline. At this time, the Followers made up more than two thirds of the population of Orasas.

This coup would be called the Elsmaic Genocide.

The Elsmaic Genocide and Transfer of Power:

The Old-Way Followers had planned to beseech the Devil so that he would ordain a different family to rule the cult. This plan had failed and the Devil refused to do so. Instead of a Grand Communicator, the Old-Way Followers put together a council instead, consisting of heads from 6 different families.

The Council had taken control of the Orasan Legion by promising them admission into Harborage (a promise they didn’t have the authority to fulfill) and on a summer night of that fateful year, the Legion laid waste to the state. Thousands were bludgeoned and killed in their homes. Their belongings were seized in the name of the cult and put into the hands of the Old-Way Followers. The city burned that night, brighter than anyone had ever seen. It was rumored that people saw the faint glow all the way from Prakra. Thousands upon thousands of people lost their lives, including Osiris and his wife, Nandini.

General Petvik, The general of the Orasan Legion, came into their home on the mountain and drug them out for the whole state to see. Here, he and his men rose two stakes and nailed them to the wood. They slit Osiris and Nandini’s wrists and let their blood, stripping the Devil’s power from them. They offered this blood as a sacrifice, in hopes that the Devil would pardon the Old-Way Followers for the rebellion. The Devil accepted their sacrifice and decided to spare the Council and the rest of the Old-Way Followers. After this, general Petvik burned the Elsma patriarch and his wife alive. He left their estate standing as a grim reminder of what was no longer there.

Harrowing escape:

Rhadika and Lakshmi had managed to escape with a small amount of their belongings, using the backroad behind their house to descend into the tropical forest of Orasas. They traveled for a day or so, not knowing who would help them, or even spare them. It was in the next night that Rhadika had come across a band of Nevivonian pirates. She asked them for safe passage for her and her sister in exchange for gold. They agreed to let them aboard, and the boat was to leave at dawn.

In this time, the Old-Way Followers had been made aware of the daughters’ escape and sent out the Legion to find them. They searched every house, every shop, every ship at port. The pirates didn’t do much to protect them, letting the Legion search their ship willingly. In the harrowing moments before her capture, Rhadika gave her sister a pendant and a bag of their few belongings.

Rhadika told her sister (who barely spoke) that her new name was to be Salice Roanan. She was the protagonist in a book they had been read as children, and Rhadika knew that it was this name she would remember. Rhadika smoothed her sisters hair and gave her a Elsmaic prayer.

“What we owe brings us forward, Lakshi. Always pay your debts. Forward, ever forward. This is our way.”

All Salice could do was nod and watch her sister leave the bilge of that ship. Her march toward death more elegant than it should’ve been. Her elaborate red garb had tassels of gold glinting in the light of the morning. Salice held one of theses tassels in her hands as she watched her sister disappear. Her brave and triumphant smile would always be engrained in Salice’s mind. It was at this time that Rhadika had given herself up, claiming that only she had survived and her sister was killed in the madness. The Legion accepted her surrender and took her away, leaving Salice alone with the pirates.

Aboard the Guillemot:

Salice spends the lesser part of 2 years with these pirates aboard the Guillemot. They don’t treat her with any respect or with any care, and she functions as their servant and as their maid. She cleans the ship and cleans up after the men, helping the cook serve their meals, helping the doctor perform his duties. Although she is not treated well by these pirates, the ship’s physician saw no benefit in being harmful to a child. So he mentors her and teaches her a little about medical practices, inciting her interest in alchemy and medical care. Her and the doctor become quite close and he treats her a lot like a daughter. His name was Dabney Halloway. The nickname he gives her is Sully.

From him, she learns to speak proficiently in a few different languages, (bettering her Orasan since his late wife was from her homeland) enough to hold a conversation. Halloway gives her books and gives her an informal education, and protects her from the scallywags of the ship.

So they travel, port to port, across the Salty Seas for these two years. Shortly before arriving in Vesuvia, Salice is assaulted by one of the crew. This sends her into a deep depression and she could not be consoled. Halloway is dismissed from the ship for coming to her defense and so she is left with nothing but her belongings. She falls ill and carries out her duties without purpose. Twice she tries to throw herself overboard, but the Captain will not have it. So after the second attempt, instead of staying in the infirmary, she in locked in the ship’s dungeon.

In the time of her imprisonment, she has a reoccurring dream of the Magician. She hardly knows him, the Arcana just a distant memory of her studies in Orasas. He comes to her in these dreams and tells her that her freedom is coming soon. He tells her to keep her eyes open for anything that might be a sign, for he would not tell her when her salvation is near.

Salice keeps going to the Magician for answers, traveling into the magical realm for days on end. She would hardly sleep, since whatever time she wasn’t working, she would be searching for the Magician in his realm. This was tolling on her body and she began falling apart. She was often beaten out of her projection by the crew and Captain. She still was required to carry out her duties on the ship or they would threaten to assault her like they had done before. She was spread thin, hardly eating or sleeping or reading. The longer she is like this, the easier it is for her to forget what her life was like before.

It is in this time, Salice creates her Gate to the magical realm. (Elsma family heirs normally create their Gates in a ceremony when they are thirteen years old, so they can commune with the Devil in his realm. Rhadika had created hers, but Salice was too young to do so. Because of this, Salice’s Gate looks different that the traditional Gates that are common in her family, which are normally dark and desolate. Salice’s Gate resembles the more temperate forests in Orasas).

Once the Guillemot comes to port, Salice is still locked in the undermost part of the ship.. She hears from the crew talking above that they are now in the land of Vesuvia.

She’s had dreams of this place, Halloway telling her about the beautiful city and the wondrous forests here. He told stories of the gorgeous palace. He told her once the traveler’s life was done with him, he’d live in Vesuvia. The believed this was her sign from the Magician. So, she plans her escape. She packs her items, which mostly consist of books and the few things that she had brought from Orasas, in a burlap pack and picks the lock on her cell (by this time she is malnourished and weak and is unable to use magic without fainting). In the middle of the night she manages to slip through the crew’s quarters, up to the deck of the ship. Not tactful enough, the Captain sees her and seizes her.

Unbeknownst to her, a little white haired urchin witnesses the whole thing from a bench by the docks. He calls out to Salice, who could barely hear. A gust of wind turns her head in his direction by chance and they lock eyes.

The bright violet of that strange child’s eyes was the sign from the Magician. Salice knew this. It came to her in an epiphany. This boy was her salvation.

She struggled with all her might, biting and kicking, using the last of her energy to rip away from the Captain. She jumps into the water.

The child is waiting for her, at a standing part of the dock, arms outstretched to Salice. He grabs her hands and pulls her out of the water, and they disappear into the night together.

Salice and Asra:

Salice and Asra lived together underneath the docks while they were very small. She tells him everything that happened back in her homeland of Orasas. She talks of the cult she was a part of and how her parents and sister (along with most of her people) were murdered. She tells him of her life aboard the Guillemot and about her father Dabney. She shares her holidays (they celebrate Lifthénta together every year) and culture and a little of her language with him and they read her many books on magic and alchemy together. They bond over magic and they teach each other the things they have come to learn and also learn new things.

She tells him about the Magician coming to her in dreams, but that’s as deep as she goes. She doesn’t tell him that the Magician prophesied that Asra was going to be in her life. She decides to leave that part out. She also doesn’t tell Asra about how she was raped. She’d much rather try to forget.

Once Asra meets Muriel, the three live under the docks together for a while. Salice is warm to Muriel but he is standoffish and will not open up to her. She doesn’t know it now, but the reason Muriel is so afraid of her is because he senses the Devil’s energy deep inside her because of her bloodline. Asra is able to overlook this part about Salice because he sees the good in her and he understands that it’s just part of who she is. Muriel doesn’t feel that way and distrusts her. Muriel especially hates the Lifthénta celebration her and Asra do every year. He says it brings evil into their lives and they shouldn’t be recognizing the cultish holiday.

This makes it difficult for Salice to maintain her relationship with Asra, the tension too much to bear. Asra always feels like he has to choose between them. Salice notices how hard it is on Asra she tells him that maybe she should find somewhere else to live. Asra doesn’t want her to go and was actually willing to part with Muriel for her. She doesn’t let him, understanding that Muriel probably needs Asra more than she does. (Even though she knows she needs him A LOT)

“Don’t worry. We’ll see each other again.”

“But.. how do you know that?”

“I just do.”

Reunion:

Salice takes all her things from the docks and leaves, wandering the streets, looking for somewhere to go. Asra is upset and is unable to be consoled by Muriel, who didn’t mean to hurt him. The two move to the woods not long after that.

By this time she’s in her early teen years, about twelve or thirteen. She knows that Dabney Halloway, the Guillemot’s former physician, is here somewhere in Vesuvia because that’s where he said he would be. That’s her main goal. To find him.

It doesn’t take her long to track him down. She asks questions around the city but doesn’t have much luck. Then she figures that she could use magic to find him. She has lots of old things that belong to him and was able to perform a locator spell that Asra taught her. She arrives at a little building near the market of the city. At the time there was a sign on the door, stating it was an apothecary shop and surgery. This would be the same shop Salice would come to own with Asra.

It was the middle of a really rainy night and Salice was exhausted. Salice knocks on the door and waits in the downpour.

The porchlight turns on and the door opens a crack. A deep, hoarse voice calls out:

“Who goes there?”

“It’s me, Dabney. Salice? Do you remember?”

The door flings open then and Dabney drops whatever he was carrying. He barely recognizes her, but those gleaming green eyes and that head full of dark, gorgeous hair give it all away. He comes forward and scoops Salice into a huge embrace. Of course he remembers. You reminded him of what his daughter would look like, what his late wife had looked like. How could he forget his little Sully?

“Sully! Dear God! Let’s get you out of this bloody rain.”

Salice is provided a bath and fresh clothes and promptly comes downstairs where Dabney has food prepared for her. He notes that she is skinnier than he has ever seen her. Salice tells Dabney about everything that happened after their separation. She tells him about the new friends she met and about the boy who saved her. She tells him that she still studies a small amount of medicine (magic mainly now) and even reveals the old belongings of his that she had kept.

Dabney is touched and welcomes her back without question. She’d take up apprenticeship if she should so choose (Dabney didn’t want to pressure her into studying something she didn’t want to do. Salice insists, wanting to increase her knowledge of magic, medicine and the alchemy in between). Salice lives here with Dabney as her guardian for the next few years, studying surgery, medicine, alchemy and furthering her magic on her own. She comes to call him “Fali”, which means “one or first” in the Orasan language. This is what Orasan children call their fathers early. They live happily together until Dabney passes away.

The Masquerade:

Dabney takes Salice to their first Masquerade, a couple of years following their reunion. Salice had been away from Asra for this time and had not seen him or heard from him. She’d constantly ask questions about him around town, but nobody seemed to know anything. He disappeared without a trace.

Salice drags Dabney to a fortune booth in the crowded backstreet behind their shop. She had been hearing good things about it from the shop’s patients and customers and wanted to get a reading or perhaps a magic tutorial. She wanted to see what it was all about. As she and Dabney approach, Salice catches a glimpse of white hair behind the curtain. She takes Dabney’s hand and pushes through the crowd, trying to find out if what she was seeing was real. Salice almost stumbles into the tent, past the curtain and she couldn’t believe her eyes.

Asra is in between readings, shuffling his Tarot deck. He looks up at Salice with those unmistakable violet eyes. Tarot cards were soon all over the floor as the two engage in a tearful embrace.

“Found you,” Salice manages to get out through her sobbing. “I told you I would.”

Asra says nothing. The tears were too strong in his throat for him to speak.

“Asra, this is my father Dabney.” She turns to Dabney and introduces the two. “This is Asra. He saved me from the Guillemot.”

Certain Times:

Now that Salice had been reunited with Asra, her life is complete. The two begin spending lots of time together in between her work at Dabney’s surgery and shop. Salice teaches Asra how to crochet and how to make candles (things she’s learned while living with Dabney). Asra and Salice love dancing together and they do so often. Asra and Salice resume their magical studies and the family takes occasional trips together. Asra, Salice and Dabney celebrate Lifthénta together (only as a memorial holiday for their parents) and make it their own celebration of togetherness. Asra also begins to celebrate Dysi with Salice. Asra still lives with Muriel at this time, but he never spares the expense to travel into the city to see Salice. Asra develops feelings for Salice, but is hesitant to tell her.

Bad Blood:

Within a few years, Dabney plans a trip to Orasas so that Salice could see her homeland. He had been keeping in contact with his sister in law and within the past few years he had learned that the the Old-Way Followers had been put down and they were no longer in power. The government had taken reforms and the king and queen had regained control of the state. The Old-Way Followers had been tried for their crimes. Some had been jailed, others had been executed. Either way, without The Council in place and without a Grand Communicator, the religion had ultimately died out. It was finally safe to go back.

Salice struggled with this information and feelings of guilt, confusion and worthlessness overtook her. She felt now that her parents deaths were for nothing and their life’s work had been completely bastardized, destroyed and smudged out of Orasan culture, whether it was good or not was none of her concern. Dabney helps get her through this stage, telling her that she has more of a purpose now than that cult would have ever given her. She believes him and decides to go on this trip to Orasas.

Salice is nervous and apprehensive about the journey, but she believes it’s in her best interest to go. Perhaps after all those years, she could get closure about her sister. Salice asks Asra if he would come with them. Asra agrees, wanting to be there for Salice during this crucial point in her life.

Before preparations are complete, Dabney falls ill. Asra and Salice do all they can, but Dabney’s condition won’t improve. Dabney eventually passes away and Salice falls into a deep depression.

Asra extends the invitation for her to stay with him and Muriel to get away from the atmosphere of the shop for a while. Salice refuses and says she prefers to be alone, especially with Muriel hating her so. During this time, she continues Dabney’s work at the surgery.

Little by little, she comes to terms with her guardian’s death. While in her solitude and depression, Salice goes searching for her family’s history, her suppressed feelings about Orasas coming back to haunt her. She pushes Asra away. Asra knows there is something else going on that is making her act like this.

The Devil now plagues Salice’s dreams and nearly drives her to insanity, tempting her to communicate herself and rededicate her life to him. He wants her to start the cult anew, with Salice as the Grand Communicator. The Devil would tell her things about her family that she didn’t even know, using it as bait and leverage to continue talking to her. The Devil knew she was a young, impressionable teenager, and she would give in eventually. He didn’t account for her steely resolve and he quickly became frustrated with how long it took for her to give in.

All Salice wanted was to know about her past. Because of this, Salice didn’t completely ignore the Devil, but she was careful about complying with him. She just needed to find out what was going on. She didn’t want Asra interfering with her at this time because she knew he would try to stop her.

Salice required answers.

In the months after Dabney’s death, she purchases, discovers, and steals (since a lot of these writings were considered artifacts) books and writings about her homeland, her religion and her family and spends a lot of time deciphering her culture.

December was coming and Asra became even more worried about Salice. Lifthénta was approaching and Asra knew the Devil’s strength during that time. He had visions of Salice being tempted by the Devil and he always had the same dream of her… She would die in a pyre, screaming his name.

After much meditation, Asra finally put the pieces together. He knew what the Devil was trying to get her to do.

The first week of December incites, and Salice nearly gives her soul to the Devil and almost falls back into Elsmaic Practice, since she feels like she has nothing else left. Asra breaks into her shop and stops her before she communicates herself by drinking her own blood. Salice is the lowest Asra had ever seen her and he vows then to never let her get that far from him again.

Asra eventually moves in with her to make sure she has a friend, to make sure she doesn’t harm herself anymore. They change Dabney’s old surgery center into a magic shop and begin helping the people of Vesuvia while furthering their own skills.

Peace Before the Red Plague:

Asra and Salice bond and become more intimate with one another, bringing her away from all of her past. Asra confesses his love for her and they celebrate their first real Dysi together. She feels such feelings toward Asra that she had never felt for anyone. They attend Masquerades together and resumed celebrating Lifthénta after a few years, giving Salice time to mentally recover. Asra and Salice are very, very happy together and believed that they would be married. They live this way until the Red Plague Comes to Vesuvia.

The Princess, the Foreign Prince and the Last King of Yeld

(originally written for the Yeld Patreon) The last King of Yeld was a kind and gentle man. His kingdom was in decline, but his people led peaceful lives, and his enemies were few and far away. He had one daughter, and from a very early age the girl knew she would grow up to rule a kingdom that had become small and quiet, and she was quite content with this. Then one day a foreign prince appeared. The Prince was clad in black and wore a long cape that twisted in the wind like an animal. His helmet had horns, which was the custom of their kingdom. He said he was the Prince of Vampires, although the Princess did not know if that was a people or place. Her father was taken by this foriegn prince, but she did not trust him at all. The Princess watched from her father’s side as this Prince swore himself to the King and asked for a chance to prove his worth. Their kingdom was in decline, and its glory days were behind them, but this Prince promised to drive the Fairy tribes from the Angry Mountains far to the kingdom’s North, and retake that ancient mountain range. The King was enthralled by promises of conquest and agreed to lend the Prince soldiers, and even members of his personal guard. When Prince Dragul rode off with 100 men toward the Angry Mountains the Princess knew she would never see him again. He would vanish into the North with her father’s men. Slaughtered by Fairies, or starved in the cold, or lost in the dark mountain passes. A year later the Prince returned. He had changed. He was darker. There was a gravity to him that the Princess couldn’t describe. The horns of his helmet, which she had never seen him remove, were longer. They arced toward the ceiling of the throne room as he knelt before her father and offered the enormous skull of a Fairy warlord, stained with blood. His men were different too. There was a darkness about them as well, and their skin had a palid quality that she couldn’t describe as sickly, but was definitely not hale. They were men she had known her entire life, but now their presence chilled her. She knew they no longer belonged to her father or to the kingdom. These were the Prince’s men now. The word ‘Vampire’ began to circulate in the King’s court.The Prince had a gift to bestow, a gift that would bring strength and long life. The King’s lieutenants, soldiers and nobles were eager for this gift, and slowly the Prince’s influence spread throughout the Kingdom. The Prince himself was a loyal servant and quickly became the King’s most trusted advisor. The Princess could see that Dragul was slowly expanding his power and influence, and she wasn’t sure why her father seemed to be blind to this. By this time nearly all of the King’s Guard were among Dragul’s Vampires, and the Prince’s followers had taken up key positions all across the kingdom. The Princess warned her father that Dragul must be planning to seize power, but the king would not hear her concerns. After much pleading he finally agreed to send the Prince away on another campaign. With 1000 men the Prince rode toward the furthest borders of the Kingdom. With him went half of the King’s Guard, Urano, Jonakund, Kerrigor and Vargas. The Princess was sad to see them go. Urano had been her guardian since birth, Jonas was a good friend and Vargas had always been the voice of reason in the court and was one of the few who shared her concerns over the Prince. She did not trust Kerrigor at all, a former criminal who dabbled in Witch magic. They rode toward Loh Tabeth and the empire of the Leviathan Queen, and the Princess knew she would never see them again. There was no challenging the knights of the Leviathan. The Prince would never return. But he did return. After 3 years. Bloodied and battered, but not broken, his darkness was stronger. His horns were sharper. His men were bonded to him in ways that were deep and secret. The Prince presented the King with a Leviathan Coil, a twisted rod that radiated magic, said to power the unstoppable Leviathan Knights. The Prince’s campaign had not been a victory, but it had also not been a defeat. He had faced the Leviathan Queen and survived. The Princess had secured her own victories. Over three years she had travelled Yeld, speaking with the King’s People and Animal Tribes and the cities that had once belonged to the kingdom but were proud of their independence. The people of Yeld had never seen a king or queen or princess before, and she saw their homes and fields and listened to their problems and shared their joys. They fell in love with her, and she with them. The Princess made friends and allies wherever she went, and in three years she saw more of Yeld than her father and grandfather ever had. Too soon after her return to court and the Prince’s return from battle the King fell ill. He was an old man, and his death came quickly. The Princess stayed by her father’s side during his last few days, and they discussed her plans at great length. She would be the Queen of Yeld, and her father very much wanted the Prince to be her advisor and general. Despite her mistrust, the Princess bowed to her father’s dying wishes. She would rule Yeld with Dragul’s assistance. He would serve her as he had served her father. On the night of her father’s death the Prince called on the Princess in her chambers. He was dressed in a fine black suit and a dark cape. She had never seen him without his helmet, and this night was no different. The Prince kneeled before her and asked her the questions he had been dreading since he first strode into her father’s court years ago. “Will you marry me?” She would not, and she told him so. She would rule the kingdom on her own, and he would serve as her advisor or not at all. The Prince took her refusal politely and left her chambers without another word. But the Princess was not put at ease. That night the Princess called her father’s King’s Guard to her. In her private chamber she confided her fears to these men and women that she had known since her childhood. That Prince Dragul had come to conquer Yeld, and that his plan was long and subtle. She believed that if the Prince couldn’t legitimize his claim by marriage he would take it by force, and she did not believe that she had the support to safely stay in the castle. The King’s Guard debated for hours. Some instantly agreed with the Princess’s assessments, while others dismissed her fears. Of the eight, all had received the Prince’s gift. All were Vampires. The Princess was sure that some of them, maybe all, would leave her chambers and go directly to the Prince. In the end four of the eight agreed to go with her. Urano, captain of the guard. Jonakund, mistress of arms. Vargas, heir to the house of Fasteon and her own distant cousin. And the magician Kerrigor. They rode from the castle before dawn. The Prince was furious. Without the Princess he could not take his place as the King of Yeld. Instead, he declared himself regent and labeled the Princess and all who followed her as Oathbreakers. Dragul assembled the remaining members of the King’s Guard and set them on a quest. They would hunt down the fleeing Princess no matter where she hid and bring her back to marry the Prince. These were the first Hunters of Yeld. The Princess did not hide for long. She had spent years building alliances and cultivating allies, and now that her enemy had finally made himself plain to see she was ready to strike. Even as the Hunters pursued her the Princess gathered her forces. All across the kingdom King’s People and Animal Tribes declared themselves Oathbreakers and flocked to the Princess’ cause. At the head of an army of surprising size the Princess struck at Dragul, dealing a series of humiliating blows. For a time it seemed as if the Prince’s reign would be short lived. And then the Fairies returned to Yeld. A treaty had been reached with the Fairy Tribes, and at the Prince’s invitation they marched across the Angry Mountains to reclaim their ancient homeland as Dragul’s new army. The Princess’ Oathbreakers could not stand against the Fairies, and quickly the people who had been so ready to fight for her slipped away back to their cities and villages, to their warrens and forests, to the families waiting for them. The Princess could not blame them. The Oathbreakers went into hiding as Dragul’s Fairy army spread across Yeld, occupying every town and constructing mighty fortresses. At the same time, the ranks of the Prince’s Vampire lieutenants swelled. Young men and women who were eager for glory, wealth and power flocked to the Kingdom’s new ruler and offered themselves for service. These young vampires quickly became the backbone of Dragul’s armies, leading Fairy soldiers, loyal King’s People and members of the Serpent Tribe on a campaign within their own kingdom, rooting out supposed Oathbreakers in every village. The Princess and her Oathbreakers fought many skirmishes with the Prince’s soldiers, but as decades drew on the people of Yeld forgot what it was like to live under a fair and just King, in a land where people took care of each other. Yeld became wilder and less safe, and the monsters of forests and caves began to reclaim their old territories. The Animal Tribes vanished into the wilds and the days grew darker and colder. And all the while the Hunters hounded the Princess and her Oathbreakers, until they felt as if they had nowhere left to turn. It was then that the Seamstress of Sarensang offered the Princess asylum. Sarensang was a Free City, a former territory of the kingdom that had bought its freedom long ago. The Seamstress was its ruler, a creature of indeterminate age who had been a friend to the Princess all her life. The Princess took the invitation and led her Oathbreakers across Yeld to the gates of Sarensang, pursued all the way by the Princess’ Hunters. The Hunters clashed with Sarensang’s Dancers at the edge of their border, and famous mercenaries turned back the Prince’s forces. Finally, for the first time in years, the Oathbreakers were safe. The decades that followed were a happy time for the Princess. She wed the Seamstress and took on the duty of protector of Sarensang. She was known affectionately as the “Pistol Princess”, and that nickname became a title that the protector of Sarensang bears even today. During this time Urano and Vargas secretly journeyed across Yeld, speaking with the King’s People and Animal Tribes in the Princess' name and building Oathbreaker cells to resist the Prince. They found surprising allies among the Fairies, many of whom were disgusted by the Prince’s cruelty and were willing to live side by side with the other people of Yeld. After years of waiting the Prince finally lost patience and led an army of unprecedented size to Sarensang, where he lay siege to the city and demanded the Princess be delivered to him. The Princess could not plunge her adopted home into war, and agreed to face the Prince. Not to surrender herself, but in personal combat. They met on Sarensang’s shores at dawn, the Princess accompanied by her Oathbreaker Knights and the Prince shadowed by his Hunters. The Princess was armed with gifts from the Seamstress and a sword called Black Hope, and she meant death for the Prince that day. They fought in the surf and on the sand for hours, the Prince never tiring and the Princess unwilling to falter. The Oathbreakers watched their Princess and cheered her on, but they all knew the truth. The Princess was a cunning and skilled warrior, but the Prince was like an avalanche. He could not be stopped. Luck saved the Princess that day. Dragul briefly lost his footing on the loose sand and the Princess took advantage of the moment, striking a strong blow. The attack was far from fatal, but left the Prince staggered. In that moment, seeing the Prince weakened and in danger, Kerrigor decided to reveal his true loyalties. The magician screamed a spell to life that melted the sand beneath his feet and sent a magical inferno hurtling toward the Princess. But the other Oathbreakers were too fast. Jonakund threw herself in front of the Princess, absorbing the magic even as she was reduced to a blackened skeleton before her friend’s eyes. Urano seized the Princess and fled as Vargas faced Dragul and his Hunters on his own. The Princess and her lone knight managed to escape, but her spirit was broken. She could not return to Sarensang or her wife, and her last best hope to kill the Prince had failed. Except for Urano, her closest allies were lost, dead or had betrayed her. The Princess went into hiding, and for many, many years the people of Yeld did not know if she still lived, or what had become of her. Some guessed that she had been wounded in her duel with the Prince, and was now confined to a lonely bed. Others swore she traveled Yeld disguised as a Postmaster, watching over her subjects in the only way she still could. There was a rumor that the Princess had crossed the Angry Mountains and traveled through the Fairy lands and Loh Tabeth, to seek an audience with the Leviathan Queen. But no one knew for sure. Decades passed, and although the Oathbreaker rebellion faltered without its Princess, it still lived on. Warriors of the Animal Tribes struck against the soldiers of the Prince where they could, and denied the kingdom access to their forests and streams. Villages hid their taxes from royal tax collectors, and saved food and wine for rebels. Fairies and Vampires that saw the Prince’s cruelty joined King’s People to fight the Prince where they could, and resist in more subtle ways when fighting was not an option. The rebellion lived on, even without its Princess. The Hunters of Yeld remained ruthless in their search for the Princess and her Oathbreakers, and with no sign of the Princess they turned their attention to small bands of rebels and protesters. Soon, anyone who defied the Prince or the kingdom was labelled Oathbreaker. Executions became common across the land, and it wasn’t long before everyone in Yeld knew someone who had been called an Oathbreaker and killed. News spread that the greatest Oathbreaker of all, the Princess’ own Knight Urano, had been captured and would be put to death alongside 200 Oathbreakers in the city of Madris. People came from across the kingdom to watch the execution, and Kerrigor himself stood ready to bring his great flaming axe down on the neck of his former comrade. The night before the execution there was great commotion in the city’s central plaza, and a fire spread through the city. As soldiers fought the flames and panic spread through the citizens there were sightings of an elderly woman in resplendent armor. Her crown of horns arced toward the night sky and black wings stretched from shoulders. She carried a black sword with a white blade, and thunder echoed from her hands. In the morning the fires had been quelled, but Kerrigor discovered that all two hundred and one of his prisoners had vanished. The Princess had returned, and she led her Oathbreakers to the Storm Mountains to the far East. Knowing that Kerrigor and his Hunters would not be far behind, the Princess used the last of her magic to hide the passes that led deep into the mountain range. Safe from their hunters, the Oathbreakers built a mighty fortress sanctuary, a place where rebels and their families could find refuge. It was in the safety of those walls, among her friends and loyal subjects that the Princess finally passed away. One hundred and eleven years after the day she had first fled her father’s castle in the company of her knights. Centuries later the Seamstress of Sarensang, who was a very long lived creature, was visited in a dream by the ghost of the Princess. In her dream the Princess wore the armor of her office as protector of Sarensang, as well as the horns that were the crown of her lost kingdom. The Seamstress and the ghost of her wife spoke for hours about many things that were private, but later the Seamstress told Urano this: “There will be a day when the foriegn prince’s ruin comes at the hand of a Princess of his own design. At her side will be a champion and an instrument of our revenge. You must guide her and shape her. Yeld will have its Princess, and we will finally have justice.”
